- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So I have a confession to make that I do have a love hate
- 0:34relationship with working the farm.
- 0:38OK, now that's not to be saying that it's not a passion of mine
- 0:42that I am not obsessed with it because I am, but it is clearly
- 0:48a love hate relationship in many ways.
- 0:50For instance, we need rain. Like in order to be having a
- 0:54really thriving farm, you do need a lot of rain or you need
- 0:57to be running your your irrigation a lot.
- 1:01Irrigation is a lot more controllable, but a lot more
- 1:03expensive. Rain is free and a lot more
- 1:07unpredictable and we are getting a lot of rain.
- 1:10We were in a drought for a long time, but it happened to work
- 1:14out because it was going through the spring.
- 1:16We had a beginning of the spring was really wet.
- 1:19When everything got outside, it was, you know, it started to dry
- 1:23out a little bit, but things weren't as thirsty because they
- 1:26were smaller. Everything gets bigger.
- 1:28It wants more water. We get go into the drought.
- 1:31You got to water a lot. I have a hate relationship with
- 1:34standing out with the hoses all the time, but I don't have
- 1:37irrigation everywhere because I, I just can't like planters,
- 1:41things like that. I'd have to run drip irrigation.
- 1:44It's very complicated and it's easier to just pull the hose
- 1:46along theoretically. But then every day when you have
- 1:49to be out there and watering for hours, I, I, I watch a lot of
- 1:53British gardening shows. And one of the head gardeners at
- 1:58one of these beautiful old Victorian mansions was like, I
- 2:02feel like I, my arm is an extension of a hose.
- 2:05And I started laughing and I said, oh, no, I understand that.
- 2:08I totally get it because you're constantly watering things and
- 2:12that's the part of the hate relationship.
- 2:14Then you know, you get all the rain, like we've had a ton of
- 2:17rain. OK, guess what that I hate
- 2:21because everything just starts to take off in ways that I can't
- 2:24control it. Not my garden part, but the
- 2:27weeds. The weeds go crazy.
- 2:29So then I'm just inundated with weeds and that brings humidity.
- 2:32So that's a part that I hate. But the humidity also really
- 2:36gets a lot of the plants going. Like if you have Peppers, this
- 2:40is the time of the year and Peppers love so much.
- 2:43So it's a constant love hate relationship out here.
- 2:47I absolutely love my chickens. They are they are just my divine
- 2:53like peace place. I just absolutely love it.
- 2:56Watching them a little while ago I gave them a different kind of
- 2:58melon to try that I was growing in the farm and a couple of them
- 3:01tasted it and they were like, I don't think I like this.
- 3:03And they walked away. A couple others come up and they
- 3:05taste it. They didn't like it.
- 3:07Then finally some one of them likes it.
- 3:09Then the rest of them come back. It's they have a love hate
- 3:12relationship with things, but with them.
- 3:15I love them so much, but there are days when I don't want to
- 3:19walk out here in the morning and have to get up early and take
- 3:23care of them. That's just the truth.
- 3:25And my personal perception of all of this is that every human
- 3:31being walking this planet has love hate relationships with
- 3:34things. You know, we, we know, we, we
- 3:37all engage in this. We, but we have these weird
- 3:41thoughts behind the scenes that say, well, we have to love
- 3:44something all the way. And that even goes for our
- 3:48partnerships. I mean, who out there could
- 3:50actually say that they are completely enamored with the
- 3:53person they're with all the time?
- 3:56I mean, that would be stupid and it would also be a lie because
- 3:59there are times when we are not enamored with them.
- 4:01There is a love hate relationship in that.
- 4:03I know he can't stand me sometimes because I have all
- 4:06these wacky ideas and crazy ideas and I'm always talking
- 4:09about them and I want to expand and grow and do all this stuff
- 4:13all the time. And I know he can't stand that.
- 4:16I know he has those moments when he's like, when is enough
- 4:19enough? And I, I mean, enough is enough
- 4:23when you're in the ground as far as I'm concerned, that's just
- 4:25how my brain works. So we, he has that for me.
- 4:29I have things with him. We all do this.
- 4:33There is no question in my mind that these love hate situations
- 4:37are present and accounted for. That's not the question.
- 4:41The question is what are we going to do with them?
- 4:43How are we going to handle them? Do we allow them to drive us
- 4:46insane because they can? Or do we observe them, take note
- 4:51of them, see if it's a consistent pattern of things
- 4:54that show up and ask the question constantly, Well, is
- 4:57this something I want to change? Is this something that I need to
- 5:00fix? Is this something that I need to
- 5:02do to fix this? And it it, you know, once you
- 5:06start doing that kind of questioning, it's a much easier
- 5:09road to figuring out. Is it something I really just
- 5:12detest now? Is it really something I just
- 5:15detest now? Like, I can tell you, I tried
- 5:18planting certain bulbs. Peonies cannot, cannot grow them
- 5:22here. I tried and tried and tried.
- 5:24I love them. They're one of my favorite
- 5:26flowers. But I have a love hate
- 5:28relationship with them because they are so hard to grow.
- 5:31They are so hard to grow. So guess what?
- 5:34But not growing them here. It's just observation.
- 5:38And after, you know, trying so many times, you say I'm not
- 5:41willing to try anymore. So that's that's the essence of
- 5:45it. Look at it, observe it, take the
- 5:48information. All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:50you have a blessed day and I'll see you tomorrow.
- 5:52Bye.
