- 0:02Speaker 1: Balanced Life Chiropractic. We're here with doctor Harley.
- 0:04Speaker 2: How you doing, doctor Harley, Hey John, I'm doing fantastic.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Can't complain the sunshine. And we had blue.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Skies, beautiful, beautiful, and it's yeah, it just this. This
- 0:13Speaker 1: feels like the best time of year to me.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Right, you know it's spring. I love spring.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Oh yeah, this is a lot of people. This is
- 0:18Speaker 1: kind of their favorite time of year. Everything's coming alive
- 0:20Speaker 1: and getting beautiful again. And that means a lot of
- 0:22Speaker 1: people go out and they do all this thing called gardening,
- 0:25Speaker 1: and then they are hunched over all day and then
- 0:27Speaker 1: they come in to see you and they're like, Doc,
- 0:28Speaker 1: my back hurts, Like I don't.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Know what happened. My back hurts, my knees hurt. Well,
- 0:33Speaker 2: what were you doing over the weekend? Oh, I just
- 0:35Speaker 2: spent some time in the garden.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Or that there you go, right there, I think we
- 0:38Speaker 1: found it.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know, this weekend's Mother's Day weekend, So
- 0:41Speaker 2: happy Mother's Day weekend all the moms out there.
- 0:44Speaker 1: So if somebody does spend a little too much time
- 0:46Speaker 1: in the garden, or if they're planning to spend time
- 0:48Speaker 1: in the garden. Are there things they should do ahead
- 0:50Speaker 1: of time to maybe avoid pulling a little of this
- 0:52Speaker 1: or hurting a little of that.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Like we talked about in the wintertime with shoveling snow.
- 0:56Speaker 2: You know, this is kind of the equivalent. We need
- 0:58Speaker 2: to make sure that we're warming up stretching, because you're
- 1:01Speaker 2: gonna be doing some activity. It's sure you're not running
- 1:03Speaker 2: a mile or a marathon or anything like that, but
- 1:05Speaker 2: you're still gonna be you know, raking or digging or
- 1:08Speaker 2: you know, bending down to plant stuff or pull stuff out.
- 1:12Speaker 2: You're still gonna be using some muscles that maybe haven't
- 1:14Speaker 2: been used as much in the recent memory, and they're
- 1:18Speaker 2: not going to feel the greatest the next day if
- 1:20Speaker 2: you don't take some precaution before you get started.
- 1:22Speaker 1: So a little stretching ahead of time, a little bit
- 1:25Speaker 1: of just warming up and making sure you don't die
- 1:27Speaker 1: right now.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Right, you know, get get up moving, do some jumping jacks,
- 1:31Speaker 2: touch your toes, you know, grab the doorway, stretch your
- 1:35Speaker 2: arms out a little bit. Yeah, just and taking breaks
- 1:38Speaker 2: is another big one. You're like, oh, I want to
- 1:39Speaker 2: get this all done. You know, at the end of
- 1:41Speaker 2: day it's going to be there tomorrow too. It's okay.
- 1:44Speaker 2: It's it's good to make sure you take your time
- 1:47Speaker 2: and slowly do it and try not to overdo it
- 1:49Speaker 2: all in one sitting, because then you could really.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Hurt yourself absolutely, and you want to be careful out there.
- 1:54Speaker 1: So again, so we kind of talked about some things
- 1:57Speaker 1: to do before you do the gardening. Now what happens.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Let's say I've done it, I've overdone it, I'm a
- 2:03Speaker 1: little bit stiff, I'm a little bit sore. Would I
- 2:05Speaker 1: put heat on that? Would I put ice on that?
- 2:07Speaker 1: What's the best thing to do with afterwards?
- 2:09Speaker 2: I would say ice, you know, especially if it's like
- 2:11Speaker 2: your knees or your like low back or your hips,
- 2:13Speaker 2: you feel like kind of joints are hurting. Ice is good.
- 2:17Speaker 2: If it feels like the muscles are tight and achy
- 2:19Speaker 2: a hot shower using like a heating pad would be
- 2:21Speaker 2: a good idea there, or you know, go see your chiropractor,
- 2:24Speaker 2: or if you don't have a chiropractor, come see us. Yeah,
- 2:27Speaker 2: you know, we will be open tomorrow and Thursday before
- 2:30Speaker 2: Mother's Day weekend, so you can always get adjusted before
- 2:33Speaker 2: you start doing all the gardening and that's going to
- 2:35Speaker 2: help you have a better time, more enjoyable time out
- 2:38Speaker 2: in the garden. Or you don't call for scheduling an
- 2:40Speaker 2: appointment on Monday knowing that you're gonna be out in
- 2:43Speaker 2: the garden this weekend. You're like, I know I'm gonna
- 2:45Speaker 2: be hurt, and it's good to get chiropractic adjustments going
- 2:49Speaker 2: afterwards so we can keep you happy, healthy and enjoy
- 2:52Speaker 2: your gardening.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Absolutely. If somebody listening would like to reach out and
- 2:55Speaker 1: maybe schedule an appointment, how do they get a hold
- 2:57Speaker 1: of you?
- 2:57Speaker 2: Yeah, give us a call at six or five to
