- 0:30Music. Expected to be the board.
- 1:01Another third in law. More pressure down, goes
- 1:07Schrader. Schrader sacked Antoine Powell
- 1:20Ryland. Virgos and they're rotating.
- 1:23The guys in you got pain. They're all making plays.
- 1:25Everybody's making plays. 3rd and 12 Schrader sacked Kendricks
- 1:32again. Schrader out of the end zone.
- 1:40Here comes the pressure. Schrader safety that is Antoine
- 1:49Powell Ryland and Cole Nelson was straying the frame.
- 1:53Beamer 25. Big punt last week to get the
- 1:5625. We saw Coach Beamer at halftime
- 1:59up here, watching his Hokies. Fired up, proud to see the 25
- 2:04jersey and they have no answer for APR.
- 2:07Antoine Powell. Ryland Schrader Sacks.
- 2:14Pollard. Again, 7th sack of the night.
- 2:20Non conference games. But conference games are what's
- 2:22important. And they have, they're peaking
- 2:24at the right time. They peaked.
- 2:26Tonight, defensively, that is sack #8.
- 2:32I think they're going to be in first place alone after this
- 2:34week. And welcome back to the Boundary
- 2:37Corner Podcast, along with who I think are my Co host, Brian
- 2:42Siegler and Jonathan Talley. I am Curtis Wilson and this
- 2:46episode is brought to you by Doctor Jeremy Counts at the Main
- 2:50Street Pharmacy, your friendly neighborhood pharmacy located at
- 2:53Three O 1 S Main St. in Blacksburg.
- 2:55That video courtesy of ACC Digital Network.
- 2:58Not one, not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5, not 6, not 7, but eight
- 3:02sacks. Boys are y'all in the spirit for
- 3:03tomorrow night or what? Let's get it, man.
- 3:07Oh, yeah. We ready.
- 3:09We ready to get it, man. Ready to go.
- 3:11I actually got a basketball game to go to so I won't be doing no
- 3:14trick or treating. My son's got a game at 7:00, so
- 3:18we'll be at the. We'll be at the school.
- 3:19You know what I got? I got the, I got the wood ready.
- 3:23I'm going to have a fire going. We got the we got some friends
- 3:26coming over. It's going to be a nice little
- 3:28night. Kids are going to go out and
- 3:31roll about 8 or 9 deep through the neighborhood.
- 3:35There you go. There you go.
- 3:37Similar thing over here. We're getting up, doing a big
- 3:40dinner, maybe in the cul-de-sac Brown, probably in my garage
- 3:45because it's going to be cold here tomorrow night, you know.
- 3:50Good evening, Lavar. How you doing tonight?
- 3:53He likes to mask boys, but same. And then going around the
- 3:58neighborhood getting my kids a bunch of candy that they don't
- 4:01have any business eating. So I'm going to steal it all.
- 4:05But y'all is having fun tonight. It is.
- 4:09This is going to be a fun show tonight because not only is it
- 4:14the day before Halloween, we are a day early, but between
- 4:17basketball, kids, trick or treating a bunch of other stuff,
- 4:20we had to come out. Because we couldn't get up
- 4:22together Wednesday, Shelton not with us on the night.
- 4:24He is on the injured reserve this week a little under the
- 4:28weather. Hope we get hope you get better
- 4:29out there, Shelton. But boys, we got to talk about
- 4:34tell the truth Tuesday about the Syracuse game.
- 4:36We got to know the enemy in Louisville and we got a couple
- 4:39news as things we got to share. One that broke.
- 4:42Not broke today, but it was announced today.
- 4:45LeBron, raise your mask, Sir. Because it ain't no way, Ain't
- 4:54no way. It's a good question.
- 4:57Is it going to be a trick or treat?
- 4:58We don't know. You will.
- 4:59Find out what you think. Brian, ain't no way you could go
- 5:03more than 15 minutes with that mask on without sweating like 6
- 5:07pounds. You know what?
- 5:08I I would have given him a run. We gave him a run.
- 5:11We'll have to see what happens, man.
- 5:12There we go, A lot of people joining us tonight.
- 5:14We appreciate all the love. But before we get in to tell the
- 5:18truth Tuesday on a Monday, let's talk about a couple music notes.
- 5:21Let's talk about basketball first, because a big thing broke
- 5:24since we last came with Y'all last Sunday, and that was Rodney
- 5:28Rice stepping away from the basketball program.
- 5:30Rodney Rice, one of the highest rated recruits ever in his games
- 5:34last year to look solid at times, was expected to take a
- 5:37big step. I know we're in the middle of
- 5:40football season. Basketball's not too far away,
- 5:42but say what you say. Regardless, it's a big loss for
- 5:46the team. Yeah, definitely, definitely a
- 5:48big loss, man. I mean I guess on the, I don't
- 5:52want to say on the positive side of it, he never we we never got
- 5:57to see what all he could do. So it's not like we had an
- 6:01opportunity to build a team around him.
- 6:05So sometimes you can't really miss what you never had.
- 6:09But on the other hand, it's like kid has so much potential.
- 6:13And we feel like he was going to be such a big part of the team.
- 6:17It's like, yeah, it's a it's a it's horrible and it's right
- 6:21before the season starts. So yeah, and it it's a guy that
- 6:25we saw in parts of the season last year, all right.
- 6:29So he can shoot the three but he can also get to the get to the
- 6:32rack too and we haven't really seen that or had that in a
- 6:35little bit. So really since Boots was here.
- 6:40So having a player like that, that that has that piece to
- 6:43their game I think would have been important even if from a
- 6:47consistency standpoint it sounds like MJ has kind of stepped up
- 6:50and and and and taking on a little bit more of a a
- 6:54leadership role. And that's why there was some
- 6:56looks like some questions there about who the starter was going
- 6:58to be at that spot. Well, it it it's also
- 7:01interesting the guy that recruited him is at Maryland
- 7:04now. As far as him stepping away, I'm
- 7:07he screwed himself this year. There is no portal.
- 7:10The portal for basketball is not until May, so he he can go and
- 7:14roll somewhere else. He cannot be on Team A-Team or
- 7:18anything like that. So he's effectively taking a
- 7:22year off of basketball. And for a guy who was banged
- 7:24last year and didn't get to play a lot, it's going to be
- 7:27interesting to see where he lands.
- 7:29Brian, what you said is what I believe is the biggest part.
- 7:32We know he could take it off the dribble.
- 7:34And how many times last y'all last year y'all we were sitting
- 7:37there? And we were always just kind of
- 7:39screaming. We just need somebody to just we
- 7:42we need to break this three minute spell of not scoring and
- 7:46somebody just take one to the hoop, get a layup, get a foul
- 7:50something. And he was going to be that guy.
- 7:53And you know, unfortunately it is what it is.
- 7:56We move forward. It's going to be interesting to
- 7:58see how that season goes. All right, next one.
- 8:03And this was something that was announced a couple weeks ago,
- 8:06revealed tonight on ACC Network Six to seven.
- 8:09I was trying to watch it, but we were eating dinner.
- 8:12Shout out David Cunningham. That man is a lifesaver for all
- 8:16the tweets he puts out. But the ACC schedule, because of
- 8:20the additions of Stanford Cal and SMU effectively had changed.
- 8:26And I think we as Hokie fans, when we started looking at it,
- 8:29boys, it did not change for the better.
- 8:33I mean what we wanted. I feel like we got as fans.
- 8:38I mean whenever we changed up, we took some, took a rivalry
- 8:43rivalry away that I think everybody was looking forward
- 8:47to. You know, you can say what you
- 8:48want, but anytime Virginia taking Miami plays, I think it's
- 8:51a we might not win all of them, but it's always a good time and
- 8:56that's been a long standing rivalry and when they took it
- 8:58away. I think a lot of people were,
- 9:00you know, a little upset about that.
- 9:02So when you look on the schedule and you see them back on there
- 9:05and they say, hey, this is going to be one of your permanent
- 9:08opponents, like it just makes for good football.
- 9:10So hell, we if you want to be the best, you got to go beat the
- 9:16good team. So don't matter who's on that
- 9:18schedule, good team, bad team, whatever kind of season they're
- 9:21having, we just got to go win because if we keep building on
- 9:24what we got, we'll be a good team.
- 9:25Exactly. And I mean, you love getting
- 9:28Miami back, You love not seeing BC on the schedule every year.
- 9:34Thank God that's a that's a 1-2 punch that you that you're happy
- 9:37to see. You only have to travel to the
- 9:39Carrier Dome once every five years, yeah?
- 9:43And the truth about that So it doesn't get much better than
- 9:48that. It doesn't and it's important if
- 9:50you take a look because something I was looking at is
- 9:53not everybody got the same amount of rivalry games.
- 9:57Some got 3, some got 2, some got one, some got none.
- 10:00But I think if you start looking at it is the focus is the games
- 10:03that can draw, right? Yeah.
- 10:06Miami, Virginia Tech, Wherever it is, it normally draws,
- 10:09whether it's Thursday night and a 3:30 late night game, it
- 10:13draws. FSU is playing Miami, FSU is
- 10:16playing Clemson. That's going draw.
- 10:19If you kind of look at that, that's the way they've kind of
- 10:21set it up. But they've also made sure that
- 10:23certain corridors are together. The far NE is together.
- 10:27The Western teams are together, that makes sense, but they kept
- 10:30it to 8 out. I think Brian, you were probably
- 10:33more disappointed than me than us.
- 10:35I wanted to go to 9. You were banging the table for
- 10:389, which would make more sense, but you know we're staying at
- 10:42eight games, so is what it is there.
- 10:46Yeah, shout out Sheldon saying we have to have even number of
- 10:49teams in the conference to move to 9.
- 10:52So we're we're still one one edition short here of of being
- 10:56able to put 9 games on the table for the ACC slate.
- 11:00All righty Well let's take a look we So as we got the
- 11:03schedule up here again, this is coming.
- 11:05I think we I pulled this from David Cunningham's account.
- 11:08Shout out David guy's been on with us numerous times.
- 11:12Look at some of the intriguing home games.
- 11:14First of all, I told you all today, I'm like they taking
- 11:16Clemson from us. They going to put Clemson and
- 11:19give us like SMU at home? Right.
- 11:21We did not lose Clemson next year and I think that's really
- 11:25big for the fan base because that's one of those, regardless
- 11:30whether what Clemson is their form for this year, if they're
- 11:33undefeated when they come to Lane next year, that is going to
- 11:36be a prime game. Yeah.
- 11:39What else intrigues Y'all as Y'all, take a look at this of
- 11:41the schedule for roughly the next seven years.
- 11:45Well, I don't know, a little bit of what I don't want to say.
- 11:48Well, y'all fucking made me mad. Kind of what me and you talked
- 11:52about Curtis, like Florida State, us having to play them
- 11:55again and go to their house before they come to our house
- 11:58and then we don't, they don't come to Lane until 2028.
- 12:01Like that's a little bit of a headache to me.
- 12:04Like I don't like that part of it.
- 12:06But you know, I don't know, man, that's intriguing to me that the
- 12:09Stanford game next year in a way, you know, it's intriguing
- 12:13to me. Even the whole schedule for next
- 12:14year seems very, very. Pokey Ish, Like, I don't know.
- 12:21I'm just looking at what we have and I know we don't know who's
- 12:24coming back and things like that.
- 12:26But you don't look at that and just go Oh well, there's nobody
- 12:29on there that we're going to want to go see play.
- 12:32You know, that's some that's some decent home games and then
- 12:35we got some, you know, away games that that we've brought
- 12:39back that make you happy playing Miami away.
- 12:42You know, playing Duke, Duke's playing good ball.
- 12:44Then you got Stanford on there, even though they're not playing
- 12:47good ball this year. But.
- 12:49They're going to be new to the ACC, Then you know we got queues
- 12:51on them, which he'll fuck the carrier down, but yes.
- 12:55All of that stuff, yes. All of that stuff makes you
- 12:57happy, though you know to just to just to have A at least looks
- 13:01like a competent schedule. So.
- 13:04Brian, what intrigues you on the schedule, the entire 2028
- 13:10conference slate looks? That's.
- 13:13That's a pretty, I mean, I mean, seriously.
- 13:16I mean Florida State at home, Louisville at home, Go to EU up
- 13:20at Pitt over to Stanford. Let's go to Napa for a weekend.
- 13:23Let's let's get introduced properly to to SMU coming to
- 13:26Lane. So get them at a nice little ACC
- 13:30introduction in the Lane Stadium introduction.
- 13:32So I think that's going to be an interesting year for us.
- 13:35I think if you look at 2027, you get, you get Miami at home, you
- 13:41get Clemson. We'll see if Clemson will still
- 13:44be Clemson in 2027, the way things are going for them, but
- 13:48that's neither here or there at this point.
- 13:50Then you flipped on the other side, you got Louisville UNCSMUI
- 13:54think that 2728, that's an interesting slate back-to-back
- 13:58years there. I I like this a lot better than
- 14:02what we've seen, what we thought we were going to see for the
- 14:06next three to five years. So the fact that Miami's back on
- 14:09there, we get finally get UVA at home again next year, Clemson
- 14:14staying on the schedule for 2024.
- 14:17We get a team like Georgia Tech that you know could be more of a
- 14:22high mid tier ACC team this time next year if things keep
- 14:27trending the way they're training for them right now.
- 14:29You better not be ranked when you play Georgia Tech.
- 14:31No, don't. No, you're going to lose they.
- 14:33Beating the shit out of people when they ranked.
- 14:36I don't know what it is. And then you get and you got
- 14:38Duke on there. We'll see if Duke still has Elko
- 14:41in house, but yeah, that that could be a pretty intriguing
- 14:46well away game next year. That's what I might make my way
- 14:49down to. Well, you know the ones like,
- 14:51and that's what I say like, I like, like the schedule.
- 14:55Next year's a a solid schedule, some good away games, some good
- 14:58home games. I look at 2027, y'all mentioned
- 15:02it already. 2027 is like a great year.
- 15:07Miami and Clemson at home, Stanford at home, and then we
- 15:11were talking about right before we came on.
- 15:13Road travel for 2027 is unbelievable in 2025 too.
- 15:18So for us here in Virginia, it's going to be Virginia and
- 15:23Carolina. That's day trips.
- 15:24You can get up 6:00 in the morning and drive Chapel Hill.
- 15:27You can drive UVA. Louisville is a destination.
- 15:30I think Tally was trying to go there this year.
- 15:31He's not going to be able to make it next week and then go to
- 15:35Fort Worth. Look at 2025.
- 15:38Florida State, Georgia Tech tally.
- 15:40You could legitimately go to two away games.
- 15:43Oh yeah, yeah. Georgia Tech's easy for me to
- 15:45get to, easy for, you know, Bobby Dodd Stadium is easy to
- 15:48get to. 3 hours for me. In Florida State, what we looked
- 15:51at six hours I think. It's about 6 hours, yeah.
- 15:53Not a bad drive. That's the same as me coming to
- 15:56Blacksburg, really. There you go.
- 15:57So go to the dope that year and then you take a look again 2
- 16:00local games where it's driving distance for the fan base to go
- 16:03to. So.
- 16:05I mean, overall, I think this is better than what we saw when it
- 16:10was changed a couple years ago or last year.
- 16:14It was a lot better. Again, the the interest in
- 16:18strips will be out West. Also, the interest trip and a
- 16:21little thing I'm a little scared of is them screwing us on travel
- 16:25with trips to Miami and trips way out.
- 16:27W Brown looked it up. 2024 We have the third farthest travel
- 16:34schedule. In the ACC because we're going
- 16:37cross country and we're going to the bottom of the country.
- 16:40Right. So, so we got all that out.
- 16:43I look forward to seeing it. I look forward to home in these
- 16:45home games. I mean, I I keep looking at that
- 16:47Clemson game and I feel like like that might be the one to go
- 16:51to, that might be the one to to drop the coin on and go to next
- 16:55year if it's the right time. Right.
- 16:58If it's the right. Time got to make it the right
- 17:00time. Got to make it the right time.
- 17:02And I meant like if they put that thing up way too late in
- 17:05the season or way too. Early as I.
- 17:07Am I want Clemson 20. We all know what to do with
- 17:13ourselves. Last time we went in Chestnut
- 17:14Hill will be this year and it's going to be like five years.
- 17:17It's the best thing. That's our buddy Robbie joining
- 17:19us tonight. Season's over, Robbie.
- 17:22Texted us. We will see a lot more Robbie.
- 17:24He got Starlink Internet now, and the season's over.
- 17:27Down in North Carolina. My God, I hate that your
- 17:30season's over. I'm glad you got better,
- 17:31Internet. Good job when you trade the Just
- 17:36like. All right, well, season's over,
- 17:37but at least I got some shit to watch now.
- 17:39Well, the whole thing is Jim, I'll say about is this the over
- 17:42under to 2030 unless somebody finds a way out, it will be now
- 17:462030 could be the year where things start breaking because
- 17:49it's been close enough to where it's saying, OK, we're leaving
- 17:51in a couple years. We can absorb the 100, we can
- 17:54absorb the hundred 200 million dollars.
- 17:56The the amount that they have to the swallow gets a little bit
- 17:58smaller the clothes. Might be smaller.
- 18:00Much, much smaller. All righty Well, we have done
- 18:04with that also but now it's time to tell the truth Monday or tell
- 18:09the truth Tuesday on a Monday edition.
- 18:10So y'all know what we do here. If you join us every week and if
- 18:13you don't if your first time. We talk about what went well, we
- 18:17talk about what went bad. Anything we happen that we're
- 18:22not prepared for and. Effectively, what can we do
- 18:27better going forward? And boys, y'all take your
- 18:30poison. We got a bunch of stuff here.
- 18:32What went well? You talk about it, it probably
- 18:35went well on Thursday because we beat them 3810.
- 18:38It could have been 50. Yeah, easy, easy.
- 18:41Could have been 50. What?
- 18:43What? What?
- 18:44What? Caught your eye, Bron?
- 18:48Zero. That's the number of fucking
- 18:52yards that Syracuse rushed for in that game, man.
- 18:56We should have pulled that one. We should have pulled that one
- 18:58from the locker. Room.
- 19:00Yeah, that that was when I seen that's that that's kind of
- 19:04that's kind of crazy the rush for 0 yards, you know you we
- 19:09have been looking at a 39 yard rush or you know 50 yards, zero.
- 19:16I mean that's a big deal man. Hold A-Team to 0 yards rush.
- 19:22Especially, you know, a team whose quarterback essentially
- 19:27can kill people on the ground. Did they run first quarterback?
- 19:31Yeah, I think he had like 175 yards, 147 yards against maybe
- 19:36Purdue or something this year, but he did.
- 19:38That's crazy. Yeah, 0 rushing yards.
- 19:41They had the longest run. We gave up all night was 14 and
- 19:44but I I saw that running in today, that run was very well
- 19:48fitted. Allen just made some good moves
- 19:50and they had some good blocks. We didn't spring any leaks.
- 19:53Y'all. And you know, once we got the
- 19:56lead, what else went well? How about the pass rush and
- 20:00living in the backfield? The reason we played that from
- 20:04the ACC Network, literally. It was the first play of the
- 20:08game set. The tone.
- 20:11Right in the face 8 sacks, four more tackles for loss, 12 total
- 20:17tackles for loss. APR has to.
- 20:20You know the best part? And I think this made me feel
- 20:22good. Y'all know who accounted for for
- 20:25the for all the sacks, the defensive line.
- 20:28D line, D line's playing good and everybody was doing their
- 20:32job. You know if you look at the, if
- 20:36you look at the D line, yeah you got some they're having a key on
- 20:41APR now you know. But you got other people winning
- 20:45their one-on-one battles and that, like when you have a
- 20:49running quarterback, you can't just rush it, you know, there's
- 20:52got to be lanes, you got to collapse that pocket.
- 20:55And a lot of times it was just essentially whose hand got to
- 20:59him first. That pocket just kept
- 21:01collapsing, getting smaller and smaller till it's on top of you.
- 21:04So everybody on that D line look like they, you know, at least in
- 21:09that game we got a still got a long season ahead.
- 21:11But at least in that game everybody took, took on the
- 21:14challenge and said hey, we're not going to let them beat us
- 21:16this way. And you know, once that
- 21:19happened, it was just you. You seen what happened.
- 21:23In in the end, 0 rushing yards. The ends were flying up the
- 21:26field, but also the the D tackles were pushing the pocket,
- 21:31keeping those lanes tight. So you couldn't.
- 21:33Schrader couldn't step up, he couldn't escape outside.
- 21:36Everybody was where they needed to be and everybody was coming
- 21:39full force at that quarterback. And I mean that like like Curtis
- 21:44said, we had eight sacks in that game.
- 21:46Another 4 tackles for loss. I mean when you when you can
- 21:48penetrate into the backfield like that and create problems
- 21:52for the quarterback consistently, everything else
- 21:54can fall apart. Especially when you're doing a
- 21:56good job in the running game and not not letting them run for you
- 22:01know, big gains where they could keep keep the sticks moving and
- 22:03stay ahead of the sticks where where they can get some better,
- 22:06you know quicker opportunities in the passing game.
- 22:08So he had to stand in the pocket and throw down field and we were
- 22:11able to get home. Absolutely.
- 22:13And shout out we mentioned APR, I'm going to shout out everybody
- 22:16that got a sack or a credited first sack.
- 22:19Mario Kendricks, Keyshawn Burgos, Norell Pollard Cole
- 22:22Nelson, Josh Fuga, James Jeanette, CJ McCray, Elijah
- 22:26Clock and Keyshawn Burgos. That's a lot.
- 22:30That's and that's the other piece, right?
- 22:32And I know I want to get off this, but that's the other piece
- 22:35Telly, you mentioned other guys are feeding.
- 22:37And it wasn't just one guy, it was almost the whole.
- 22:41You're next. Go eat him.
- 22:43You're next. Go get him.
- 22:44And I mean, you could have given Kianta Jenkins credit for the
- 22:46Pollard sack because, I mean he he came off the edge hard, made
- 22:50traders step right up to where they were, the deep tackles were
- 22:52collapsed in the pocket and Pollard was right there to bring
- 22:56him down. Yeah, that's the way it goes.
- 22:58Well, a couple things that our buddy Robbie said.
- 23:01He said, Where'd you get that concept from?
- 23:03Y'all put that up Robbie, I know you just getting in here every
- 23:07week man. They've been giving you credit.
- 23:09We definitely appreciate your. We definitely appreciate your
- 23:14your anything that you give us here at BCP and the the
- 23:17knowledge that you have. Always a pleasure to talk to you
- 23:20and then put that next one up too.
- 23:22Curtis the next? Step.
- 23:23You lead it off, buddy. You lead it off.
- 23:25Run game. Hey, we talking about them not
- 23:28rushing. Let's talk about us rushing.
- 23:30That 1-2 punch looked good. You had, you know, drones did
- 23:36what he what he needed to do. Just him being in the game helps
- 23:39the run game. But he was able to break some
- 23:41runs and we got to give a shout out to Toot man.
- 23:44It's like this kid just keeps getting stronger and stronger as
- 23:47the season goes on. It's like he was hitting seven
- 23:52yard runs and it looked like everybody was me watching on TV
- 23:57like I'm standing up. It's hard to get excited about a
- 24:007 yard run, but he's breaking tackles.
- 24:03He's, you know one one step and he's gone.
- 24:07Like it was great to see just him, what he's.
- 24:10I know when he came here he was good, but just to keep watching
- 24:14him getting better and better against ACC talent.
- 24:17Looks like the line is is growing with him.
- 24:21So they're at least giving him a little bit of space.
- 24:24And then also what I like to see is Thomas coming in behind him.
- 24:28Looks like he's learning from him because I don't know if he
- 24:31was injured or I don't know what the deal was, but he looks
- 24:34different running the ball in these last couple of games than
- 24:38he has at the beginning of the season.
- 24:41He's not going down with one hit.
- 24:43He's finding holes. He's getting more patient.
- 24:46It was a one play, I can't remember exactly you know what
- 24:49kind of player was, but it was kind of a maybe a stretch play
- 24:52or something. And he waited for his like he
- 24:56waited on this lineman to flush all the all the defense out and
- 25:00he just put his foot in the ground and stepped up field.
- 25:02So to watch him excel or or learn from from Tooting and get
- 25:07better every week has been good too, because we need both of
- 25:09those guys to win these next games.
- 25:15Yeah, the the run game was very impressive to me.
- 25:20I wasn't expecting to see that we.
- 25:26Had kind of seen seen what this team could do, but I just, I
- 25:32wasn't anticipating them taking this many steps and having that
- 25:35big of a game this quick just because we had seen them kind of
- 25:38all right. Start to creep towards 200,
- 25:41creep maybe a little little past 200 in the rushing game.
- 25:44Yeah, I didn't expect us to bust open for 318.
- 25:47And like you were talking about Tooting, like there was a
- 25:49stretch there where for like every.
- 25:55Like every play he was getting like 8 to 10 yards for about
- 25:57like a six or seven play stretch, yeah.
- 26:01And I mean they just like they couldn't stop him all.
- 26:04Right, Brian, real quick, just so we can hit it on this.
- 26:08I think we saw a lot more Brody Meadows on Thursday night than
- 26:12we had to me. And I told you me and you talked
- 26:16about it when you were playing poker.
- 26:18We're sitting over here watching the game.
- 26:20Harper, Clemens. That didn't look like the Parker
- 26:22Clements from the first seven games of the year something It
- 26:29wasn't perfect but it won't the where he was.
- 26:35You know it may come down to it may be competition.
- 26:39You know, it may be a because. I mean, I've seen, just from my
- 26:43perspective, I've seen some shuffling on the line.
- 26:48At one point I'm texting Curtis. Like, Chaplin's not in the game.
- 26:52Is he hurt? And then Parker's not in the
- 26:54game, you know, is Ron Crook trying to get some of these
- 26:58young guys, some Byrne to say you didn't do your job, you got
- 27:01to come over here and stand with me?
- 27:03Or were they were they injured? Are they trying to get, like, we
- 27:06don't know. But I do know that when you rush
- 27:09for 318 yards, people who are going in the game, somebody's
- 27:13creating some holes and then even when the young guys got in
- 27:17at the end of the game, like they came off the bench height,
- 27:19they were firing. Off the ball at the end, you see
- 27:22people firing off the ball at the end, wanting to get in,
- 27:24wanting to show what they can do.
- 27:26So, I mean, that's what you got to do as a that's what you got
- 27:30to do as a as a football team. You got to build off each other.
- 27:33You have to continue to iron, sharpen iron and you got to have
- 27:39those competition plays in practice.
- 27:41So I'm, I'm thinking from what I'm seeing that may be it.
- 27:46You know, it's a little bit more competition going on, but
- 27:48people's not just comfortable where you are, You're the best
- 27:50we got. You going to have to go out
- 27:52there. It's like, God, we'll put a
- 27:53freshman in if we need to. We just need somebody to go in
- 27:56and get this job done. So I agree with you, Curtis.
- 28:00I did look a little bit different.
- 28:02Parker did look just a little different this game.
- 28:05Then we've seen him again. It wasn't perfect but we got to
- 28:08give him a little bit more credit for this game that we
- 28:11have seen in other games. Yeah, better overall.
- 28:15I mean when you look at what we want to see, I think progression
- 28:19is what we kind of been looking for in this offensive line and
- 28:21we're starting to see a little bit of that and some of that's
- 28:24mentalities. I think some of that is this
- 28:27team is starting to take on the, at least on the offensive side,
- 28:30it's starting to take on the mentality of their quarterback.
- 28:33Yeah, true. And when you see the way.
- 28:38That Drones has approached these matchups and how he comes out,
- 28:41he's he's, he's fiery, he's he's somebody isn't afraid to go up
- 28:45and deliver a blow when he finishes a run.
- 28:48And I think the offensive identity is starting to kind of
- 28:51feed off of that, yeah. 100% Well, let's talk about drones on
- 28:56the other on the other part of his game and how efficient he
- 28:59was on Thursday night, 63% aid, an attempt on 615 to 24.
- 29:07And Brian, talk about what you saw from Felton and Lane because
- 29:11I mean, they carried the load. Yeah, it was.
- 29:16It was really a good game from both of them.
- 29:18We saw the the big play, big, big deep ball to Felton.
- 29:26That kind of really got things going and really kind of put the
- 29:29the game a little bit out of reach, right?
- 29:31That was kind of the play that kind of felt like broke their
- 29:33back because we had scored. Couple field goals, got a
- 29:38touchdown, but that felt like the the dagger play, that was
- 29:42the that was the play that kind of broke their will for the for
- 29:45good and all for the rest of the game, yeah.
- 29:48For sure. And they both had deep 2 deep
- 29:51balls. The deep ball Brown Mitchell for
- 29:52the touchdown, but lames that little deep whatever he did.
- 29:56The corner they said Dan Mullen, not a bad analyst by the way.
- 29:59I didn't mind listening to Dan because he said he talked about
- 30:03why Lane got his guy. He said he was running it.
- 30:05Showed corner, got bit, he hit post and then drones dropped it
- 30:10right in the bread basket day, which was great.
- 30:13Here's the other thing I like. You'll pull up the box score
- 30:15guys and start counting the number of names that got to
- 30:18catch 99 guys got catches and and yes, Felton and and and and
- 30:27Lane got none of those but for those other seven.
- 30:30He hit Gosnell, he hit laugh, and he hit two and he hit
- 30:33Malachi. He hit right, he hit Gosnell, He
- 30:35hit Holloway to me. That's where I we keep talking
- 30:40about. You know what that means,
- 30:41Curtis? Progression he's going through.
- 30:44He's going through progressions, he's progressing and he's going
- 30:48through his progressions. He's checking down.
- 30:50He's doing what a quarterback is supposed to do, which is great
- 30:54to see. Drones is my guy.
- 30:57He's all of our guys like we've been team drones from the
- 31:00beginning. But I will say I'm going to toss
- 31:03this back to you, Curtis, because I don't want to call it
- 31:07what went bad. I think we can talk about it
- 31:09here. Seeing drones not because he
- 31:12didn't have his A game like if I if I rated his game with us
- 31:17winning like we did, I'll say at least AB minus is probably where
- 31:21I put him. You know he missed a couple of
- 31:24guys he, you know missed a couple of deep balls.
- 31:26Different things like that. Even on the sacks, I feel like
- 31:30you know some of those sacks he he he can get out of that the
- 31:34more he learns because they had a spy on him and I think he's
- 31:38just better than that linebacker linebacker make a great play but
- 31:41him maybe holding on the ball too long but waiting too long to
- 31:44take off. So I'll say talking about it
- 31:47while we're talking about this Curtis, how do you feel you know
- 31:51about drones? Not having his A game, but still
- 31:56having that mentality to rally the team for us to beat somebody
- 31:5938 to 10. Y'all y'all say a lot about it
- 32:02and y'all both play at a collegiate level.
- 32:05It's mentality. We blew out a team that was four
- 32:08and three. Yes, they had their struggles
- 32:10coming in, but they had some. They beat Purdue, they had a
- 32:12couple OK wins. We didn't see this blowout
- 32:15coming and if you told me. Oh, you going to blow them out.
- 32:18I was glad to sit here and be like drones went for 285 in the
- 32:21air. He went for 110 on the ground.
- 32:24He he accounted for four touchdowns total.
- 32:27He didn't. He didn't.
- 32:28But what he also did like you said he rallied the troops but
- 32:32he stayed calm. He didn't get rattled any when
- 32:36you know he had he had one big run he was kind of getting box
- 32:39they spied him. But Brian, what do you say this
- 32:43that when the quarterback? Has that B minus and something
- 32:48like this happens, What does it do for everybody around you?
- 32:50What does it do for the line? What does it do for the White
- 32:52House? What does it do for the running
- 32:53backs? Well, like like Tally said, I
- 32:57think the big thing is that you know when you see a quarterback
- 33:00that can still impact the game with his leadership and
- 33:04mentality, even when he's not playing what you would call it A
- 33:08game or an A minus game or that B plus game, you know, we we
- 33:12probably got AB game from him overall.
- 33:14But he was still impacting the the play in other ways.
- 33:18He was still making the timely throws even when he wasn't
- 33:21making all the throws. The throws he made counted the
- 33:24throws he made removing the sticks, the throws he made were
- 33:27going for big touchdowns. So you still were getting some
- 33:30of that as we were going along. And like I said, I think the
- 33:33mentality that he brings to the table, we feed off that because
- 33:37the running game was working, our running game was working and
- 33:41the only time we it was slowing down.
- 33:44And it's and it's been, we've seen it week kind of week after
- 33:47week. At this point, if if this team
- 33:48has one flaw and we're going to talk about it here in a second,
- 33:51if this team has one flaw, it's probably red zone scoring, yeah?
- 33:56And and and that's where two things are happening.
- 34:00Two things are happening there. One, you you show you know your
- 34:03inexperienced quarterback. Some of that inexperience shows
- 34:05up in those tighter windows, those you know, more quick
- 34:10decision making. That has to take place in the
- 34:11red area #2. Your offensive line flaws are a
- 34:16lot more apparent because you have a lot less room to work.
- 34:20You got more from the box, you got more Brian, we're going to
- 34:23let you, we're going to let you cook with that.
- 34:24When we go to, we going to go to the next segment.
- 34:26We want to stay on the what we're good right there, but
- 34:29don't forget what you're saying. Yeah, Don't.
- 34:30Forget it. Don't get it.
- 34:32That's all good stuff. But I just wanted to go.
- 34:34But yeah, I wanted to go back right quick, Curtis.
- 34:37Just to say one thing about drones and and even when he
- 34:42doesn't have a A+ game, like Brian said, the running game is
- 34:48working. And this is no disrespect to any
- 34:51quarterback or any quarterback that's played for Virginia Tech
- 34:55or that started the season as the Virginia Tech QB.
- 34:58One our offense is set up to have a running back be a threat.
- 35:03Drones is a threat. So even if he doesn't run for
- 35:05any yards, he has done it in the past and that defense is keying
- 35:10on him running. If you watch the linebackers and
- 35:14you watch the ends, their eyes on that quarterback to make sure
- 35:17he doesn't gash them. So that little bit of time when
- 35:20you give Tooting just that little extra step and he can get
- 35:25that little extra off to get in that, get up that up that gap,
- 35:29up that same. That's why we're able to hit
- 35:31people for six yards, 7 yards, you know, even 3 yards instead
- 35:37of being tackled in the backfield like we were at the
- 35:39beginning of the season. But Curtis, I know you have
- 35:41something else. Go ahead brother.
- 35:42Well, I got two because you were talking about the rush, and I
- 35:44want to hit this real quick since I want y'all to both guess
- 35:50at this number since Kyron drones took over at quarterback.
- 35:54Do y'all know what we're averaging per game?
- 35:57Rushing the ball? I'll give y'all this yet.
- 36:01It's in the top 20. I don't.
- 36:03I don't. I don't.
- 36:04I was going to say I know it's, I know it's, it's good.
- 36:08It's better than we were at. But I don't.
- 36:09Know what it was. I don't want it 190.
- 36:13Six. That's pretty good.
- 36:17I don't. Even one play if Price is right,
- 36:18man, I didn't even go over. Nailed it, 196.
- 36:22That would rank 19th in the country in Russia.
- 36:24But you got to understand that's crazy compared to what we and
- 36:28then like you think about again, we talk about Purdue.
- 36:34This Syracuse team that we just played gashed them.
- 36:38They gashed them running the ball, US playing ODU like we we
- 36:44met what we have 50 yards rushing, 30 yards rushing.
- 36:48Like we had a crazy number of yards rushing compared to 319
- 36:53like. What we're doing now is crazy.
- 36:55But you know what? Hold that, because me and me and
- 36:57Brian, remember we got to state of the program address in
- 37:00December. Got all those feelings in the
- 37:02back of you? Oh yeah.
- 37:04We go pack them away. We go let them flow in the when
- 37:07the liquor's flowing, Yeah, we have to see.
- 37:09Nobody got to go to work the next day.
- 37:11Yeah, we got to see what these next four games going to do.
- 37:13Jeremy, we're doing that for you too.
- 37:14We know you're out there. Two other pieces to hit
- 37:16offensively. I love the two gadget plays.
- 37:20The Malachi. Malachi Thomas can throw a ball.
- 37:23Oh, it looks good. They look great.
- 37:27And then the XTV reversed That kids got some wheels.
- 37:30Cause, yeah, they do. Watching that play, are we going
- 37:32to lose? Y'all are we going to lose?
- 37:33Oh wait a second. That was the longest.
- 37:36That was the the farthest I ever seen somebody run 9 yards in my
- 37:40life. It looked like he was running
- 37:42for 40 yards. It's a nine yard game, but like
- 37:45you said, it could have been a loss.
- 37:47But he squeaked something out of it.
- 37:49So. Heads had some jets had a little
- 37:51bit of wiggle to get some extra yards there so I mean that's
- 37:54what you like to see from that type of play and it and it makes
- 37:57them have to think about it going forward.
- 37:59They can't just send those linebackers flowing.
- 38:02Anytime we have one of those tosses or anything like that
- 38:05they got to start thinking about in the back of the head I, I I
- 38:07can't quite pursue like that. I got to got to make sure that
- 38:10we're we're we're not flowing too quick here especially guys
- 38:14on the backside too that they have that container
- 38:16responsibility. When we run, When we run a short
- 38:20side toss. Uh, oh, oh Lord.
- 38:25Robbie. Robbie.
- 38:27You know, you always got my vote to talk football, man.
- 38:30I don't know if these two dudes up here like you, man, but you
- 38:33know I love them. You know I love you.
- 38:35So you always you always got my you always got my vote to drink
- 38:39some moonshine and and talk football.
- 38:42That man was in my way and he definitely got my vote.
- 38:45Yeah, definitely. Two more things.
- 38:47Give special teams a shout out. John Love Drilling the goals all
- 38:50night. John Love.
- 38:52And Tucker Holloway that Tell me is he topping the ACC right now?
- 38:58You give me a minute. I'll talk about what y'all saw
- 39:01cause 'cause Stu Holt. Somebody posted?
- 39:04Yeah, somebody posted something about Tucker Holloway, you know,
- 39:08Oh. Oh, he's topping the ACC, right?
- 39:14And he ain't even got a touchdown yet this year.
- 39:16No, he doesn't. That's crazy.
- 39:18But this is what I was going to say, which was cool to I heard
- 39:21him on some of these podcasts. Was it TSLI heard?
- 39:25I've seen him on a podcast. I got to go and find out exactly
- 39:27which one because I've listened to so much stuff.
- 39:29But you know, he's just talking. He, he seems like a really
- 39:32humble kid and he talks about just being a team player and
- 39:36somebody posted that he was I think topping the ACC or that
- 39:41stat that you just said and he he posted a picture of still
- 39:46shot of everybody blocking and he said This is why.
- 39:50So he's posting everybody that's got that man locked up in the
- 39:54lane that he has you know and he makes one man missing.
- 39:58He's off to the races. So to have that mind, to even be
- 40:02humble like that, and to bring his teammates into that
- 40:06celebration with him is awesome. So.
- 40:09I mean, we got a lot of this stuff going, man.
- 40:11I mean, I just want us to keep building on this momentum and,
- 40:15you know, finish out the season. Absolutely.
- 40:18All right, Brian, you ready? We moved to what went bad?
- 40:23The floor is yours because because.
- 40:25I got overzealous there. That's my bad.
- 40:26No, no, you. You all good?
- 40:29But I know what, but Brian, go ahead and.
- 40:30Say it. But I got a one time.
- 40:31Get that Lantern. I was like, oh shit.
- 40:32I'm now I'm talking about something bad.
- 40:33Holy shit, I'm a little ahead of myself.
- 40:35Here, LeBron, be be reality. Why?
- 40:38Why? What you were talking about, why
- 40:39you wanted to change not only for games, but what could have
- 40:42happened. Like what could have happened
- 40:44Thursday night could have been. Big time.
- 40:47Yeah, it could have been easily A50 Burger if you're more
- 40:51successful in the red zone. And like I was saying earlier,
- 40:54that starts with, you know, there are a lot of reasons that
- 40:58a young team like this, an offense that's still developing
- 41:01like this, is having some of those problems.
- 41:04When you get in the red area, you got a quarterback that's
- 41:07still learning, the offense still overall inexperienced in
- 41:10terms of the number of starts and things like that, that that
- 41:13gets harder. When you're in the red zone,
- 41:15those windows get tighter. You see a lot more, lot less
- 41:20time in the pocket because you got more guys near and around
- 41:23the line of scrimmage. You know, you add that with the
- 41:27on the offensive line side, you got more people near the box.
- 41:30They're bringing more pressure. There's it's harder to get to
- 41:35the second level because there's more people in the box close to
- 41:37the box. So there's there's a lot of
- 41:40different factors that come into play when you talk about success
- 41:43in the red area versus success between the 20s, so.
- 41:47I I get why we're struggling. But at the same time it's
- 41:50something that we need to start seeing some progress on as we as
- 41:55we play a team like Louisville this week and as we close out
- 41:57these last four games of the season.
- 41:59Yeah, especially like you said when you're playing somebody
- 42:02like Louisville where you going into their house, you going in
- 42:06as an underdog. If you get it at Red Zone,
- 42:08you're not going to be a team like that with field goals.
- 42:12Not all the time. You know, you a field goal could
- 42:15win it, but you got to put some, you got to get in the end zone,
- 42:18you got to touch, pay dirt. So like you said, all of those
- 42:22things that you talked about are things that our young offense,
- 42:26our young play caller is going to learn and it's going to do
- 42:30better. You know, it's the the offense
- 42:32as a whole. We're going to see that stuff
- 42:36and we're going to start producing there.
- 42:37So I'm excited to see what we, what we're going to be able to
- 42:43accomplish. I guess the next thing, Curtis,
- 42:46I'll throw back to you because it wasn't very much that we can
- 42:48say went bad, but I think you may have had something else that
- 42:52you want to talk about. Well, just no forced turnovers.
- 42:56We, we had the opportunity a couple times.
- 42:58I mean, we got the ball on the ground, there were a couple
- 43:00times we got our hands on it in the air and we just didn't do
- 43:03it. And and again, that's the thing
- 43:05goes back to what Brian said, if we force a couple turnovers in
- 43:08this game. I mean, let's go back 99 and go
- 43:1262. Nothing.
- 43:13I mean, this game could have been big time bad into bronze
- 43:16point last week. Syracuse to me is a better team
- 43:20than the bottom. Yeah, there's there's like,
- 43:23right there, right there about to fall under that tear.
- 43:26If they lose again, they're going to fall into that tear.
- 43:27And we might have sent the death nail into the Dino Babies
- 43:30coffin, but that's the piece which, like this team's a little
- 43:34bit better. They've got a they've got a good
- 43:36running quarterback, which always seems to be an issue.
- 43:39But we we overcame it and go let's go into this and I'm I'm
- 43:42going to go ahead and leave mine.
- 43:43Y'all already said it once anything happened we were not
- 43:46prepared for. I was not prepared of how we
- 43:48clogged those QB lanes. I there were no, she did not
- 43:52escape any All night I was shocked to see that.
- 43:55That's a credit to not only the entire defensive coaching staff
- 44:00but Chris Marr understanding and getting the guys in the
- 44:03mentality like listen we and I said it.
- 44:06We have to stay disciplined. We were aggressive off the
- 44:09edges, but to Brian, your point, we were pushing the gap.
- 44:13We weren't moving. We weren't trying to like stunt
- 44:17and shift and slant and all this.
- 44:18Just like, listen, just get up in there, make sure if he comes
- 44:22up, he's not coming up to anything.
- 44:24A couple times we got lucky and he took too many steps back and
- 44:29we were able to get up in the interior defensive line and get
- 44:32to sacks. What about you, Brian?
- 44:34What in the world were you not prepared for?
- 44:38I have not been prepared for how much of a difference having
- 44:41Nasir peoples out there has made for this defense.
- 44:44Yeah, that's been It definitely was a big deal.
- 44:49I mean, we knew that that unit was going to be young.
- 44:53I think having his leadership back has been big, but having
- 44:56his playback has been even bigger and.
- 45:01Something that I thought was a huge problem the first four or
- 45:05five weeks of the season has been very much less so since
- 45:09he's been back and healthy. We will get tested again this
- 45:13week on that front. So I'm hoping to continue this
- 45:16trend of this being something that has surprised me, but I I
- 45:20like putting that out there and a just a specific shout out to
- 45:24Peoples for his play the last few weeks.
- 45:27Shout out and see your peoples. What about you, Tally?
- 45:29What in the world were you not prepared for sitting down?
- 45:327:30, I'm sure you took a big, deep breath.
- 45:34Oh, man. Two things I wasn't prepared for
- 45:37was the time of possession. They only held the ball for 18
- 45:42minutes. We had the ball for 41 minutes,
- 45:45almost 42 minutes compared to their 18.
- 45:49And this is the big thing. They were O for 9 on 3rd down, O
- 45:55for 9:00. Oh yeah, I got it.
- 45:59He called it. He.
- 46:00Called it out. He set you up.
- 46:01He. Set you up O for 9 on 3rd down.
- 46:06You know, you been every everybody's been in the lane,
- 46:09you know. And on 3rd down you're up and
- 46:11you're yelling, you got your keys and then they get a first
- 46:14down and you sit down and you look at Curtis and go fuck, you
- 46:18know what I'm saying? Like that's what you that's what
- 46:20I do when I'm in there. But I'm at the house and I'm
- 46:24standing up and I'm shaking my keys and we get off the field
- 46:29again and again and again and again the whole night.
- 46:33Like I was not prepared to shut them down and they go over 9 on
- 46:383rd down. Like I've never seen nothing
- 46:42like it, man. It was.
- 46:42It was. It was scary.
- 46:45You know what it felt like? And Brian?
- 46:47I talked to Mitch at work. I messaged him.
- 46:50Mitch, Mitch. Mitch is season ticket holder.
- 46:53It felt like the lane of old. She felt nasty, she felt mean.
- 46:57She felt loud and they got the bitter end of it.
- 47:01Like she. Lane.
- 47:02Biddle Lane, you listen. I wish we could play that clip
- 47:06again. Go find that and find the 8
- 47:08sacks every single time. It is so loud.
- 47:12You can just hear the crowd right there, so loud at them.
- 47:16I love that. All right.
- 47:19What can we do better moving forward?
- 47:21And I think, I think this is going to be an echo, be that
- 47:25team every week, every week. Every week, Consistently.
- 47:29Stop the run. Sack the quarterback.
- 47:31Run the ball, pass efficiently. Big plays and it's like we know
- 47:37you. We wish you could but we know we
- 47:39might not get 8 sacks every week.
- 47:41We understand that as as fans that watch football, but we can
- 47:45be a team that shows up and does their job, that fields lanes and
- 47:52doesn't give up a fucking 70 yard touchdown on 3rd and two,
- 47:58you know, things like that. You know, the big plays, the big
- 48:02running plays have killed us early in the season.
- 48:06So it's good to see that we've somewhat corrected those.
- 48:10You know, you don't want to speak too fast because we still
- 48:12got four games to go. But from what we've seen in the
- 48:15pit game, for what we seen in the weight game, from what we
- 48:18seen in this Syracuse game, you know, Florida State is a little
- 48:22bit different than Florida State's outside.
- 48:25Outside of three plays, we saw it somewhat consistently against
- 48:28them after that first quarter. So, right.
- 48:30So you know, just be that team like you said every week, man.
- 48:34And and you know this, this, this season shapes up and
- 48:39finishes up Good for us. Right.
- 48:43Yeah, I mean, I'm right there with you.
- 48:45Just let's let's be this team every week and.
- 48:48Like Tally said, I don't expect 8 sacks, but I want to see the
- 48:52same type of effort of getting there.
- 48:53Like you're not always going to get home eight times like there.
- 48:56There's going to be quarterbacks that get rid of the ball better
- 48:58than Schrader did. There's been quarterbacks that
- 49:01find a way to step up in the pocket differently and able to
- 49:04get the ball out of their hands better than Schrader did, but
- 49:09you're still impacting the play. You're making him move faster.
- 49:12You're making him to get rid of the ball quicker.
- 49:15If you're consistently doing those things, you're going to be
- 49:18in a good position on defense to get off the field.
- 49:23And I'll say it, and I'll say this too, Curtis, when you say
- 49:26be the same team every week, that means at home and away.
- 49:31We've seen a different team at home than we've seen away.
- 49:35So this week we're going away. We're going to play a ranked
- 49:40Louisville team, which we're going to talk about after Curtis
- 49:44gives us some words. Well the the last piece I'll say
- 49:47is and y'all talking about it with you can't get a sacks every
- 49:50week, you likely can't. But what you can do and y'all
- 49:54know this from both playing tight end and line and tally
- 49:57playing defensive end and everything, you make them think
- 50:01so much. There's going to be times this
- 50:02week where Louisville's going to go and Max protect on certain
- 50:05place because they're going to be like we screw up on this five
- 50:09step drop. He going to be in Plumbers Grill
- 50:12and he going to hit it. We don't want that.
- 50:14So what we're going to do, we're going to play Max protect.
- 50:16I want you shade left, you going to shade right.
- 50:18We're going to send 3 routes out, keep everybody else in.
- 50:21And when you start doing that, you start taking away the
- 50:23options. When you start stopping running
- 50:26the ball and you fill in the lanes, OK, instead of the
- 50:30running back going to where the lane's supposed to be, I'm going
- 50:32to Kick It Out because they fill in their laps.
- 50:34I'm going to try to get to the edge and then the next thing you
- 50:36know is 7 yards for loss. That's what that's what we're
- 50:40talking about. All right.
- 50:41And you are right, Tally. Before we get to know the enemy
- 50:45for the Louisville Cardinals, we are going to take a quick fall
- 50:48for my digital partners and Main Street Pharmacy.
- 50:52I can probably save you a lot of money and I can take a lot
- 50:54better care of you. That's pretty much it.
- 50:57My name is Jeremy Counts and I'm a pharmacist.
- 50:59I own and operate Main Street Pharmacy here in downtown
- 51:02Blacksburg. My brother's a pharmacist.
- 51:04I'm a pharmacist. My uncle's a pharmacist.
- 51:05My dad's a pharmacist. I remember he would give me M
- 51:07and Ms. to count in little pill counters.
- 51:10This is something I've always done, and I'm just lucky that
- 51:13what I know so well is something that I can do and feel good
- 51:16about it and give back to people.
- 51:18Pharmacies are your frontline defense.
- 51:20Pharmacy's job is to make sure you're getting optimal care for
- 51:23the lowest price possible. Also, we take the pressure off
- 51:27of emergency rooms. I'll tell people immediately
- 51:29when they need to go to the doctor, or I'll tell them if
- 51:31they just need a cream over the counter.
- 51:33If there's something that isn't commercially available, if it's
- 51:35something that's not available in a certain strength or a
- 51:38certain form or anything like that, we'll make it tailor made
- 51:41medications. Some of those options save
- 51:42people a lot of money. What motivates me?
- 51:44I get to take care of people and limit Blacksburg.
- 51:47That's all neat. As we take a quick break, we'd
- 51:51like to tell you about getting your free website report from
- 51:54our digital partner, Grassroots Digital Marketing Studio.
- 51:57They'll tell you how your website ranks on Google, on
- 51:59site, SEO and social media. No commitment to buy anything.
- 52:03You can get your free report by visiting grassroots
- 52:05digitalstudio.com/free Dash website Dash Report.
- 52:10Now back to the episode. All righty, So now let's do know
- 52:14the enemy. Let's take a look at the
- 52:16Louisville Cardinals and let's start on the offensive side of
- 52:18the ball. Yeah, they got their masks back
- 52:21out. Joker's here.
- 52:22All right, Brian, let's start with the offense.
- 52:25Let's talk about the offensive scheme for this team.
- 52:29Yeah man, we're we got the Jeff and Brian Braun, the Brown
- 52:34brothers running the offense here.
- 52:36This is a multiple up tempo spread.
- 52:39They run a lot of Prostyle looks as well, very predicated on the
- 52:43success of the run game and staying on schedule.
- 52:47And they attack the whole field. But that short catch and run,
- 52:52that's really their bread and butter and that's that's where
- 52:54they make their most successful plays is off.
- 52:57They catch and run in the short passing game and also being able
- 53:01to run the football effectively to set all those things up when
- 53:05they take a a shot deep. And they're also not afraid of
- 53:08trick plays or you're probably going to see a trick play here
- 53:10or there throughout the game. So look for that as well.
- 53:13A making us stay on our toes. We did it twice last week.
- 53:17We know that I want to make 1.4. Brian starts getting into the
- 53:21players here and we start looking at them.
- 53:24Something that's very interesting about them.
- 53:27They are not a good third down conversion team. 37, 1/2%,
- 53:32that's that's not a good number. You don't want to be down into
- 53:34that under 40%. But here's the craziest part
- 53:40they get, you know. They've only gotten 21st downs
- 53:45on 3rd down. Everything else, almost 75% is
- 53:48on 1st and 2nd. I know Shelton loves to say it.
- 53:51It's more what you do on 1st and 2nd.
- 53:53To me, I think about this game right now.
- 53:56We've got to get them there. We've got to get them to 3rd
- 53:59down. I think that's going to be one
- 54:00of our big keys. Brian, let's talk about Jack
- 54:03Plummer. He's a six foot five £215
- 54:06quarterback, Gilbert AZ and Gilbert High School.
- 54:11He was a transfer from Cal, well last season of Cali had a pretty
- 54:14good year where he threw for over 3000 yards, 21 touchdown, 9
- 54:19picks. He had been committed or had
- 54:21played previously under Braun at Purdue where he was in 88 as a
- 54:27class of 2018. So he's older, I know you've got
- 54:31some info on that. And so far this year, 2018 yards
- 54:3713 and a. 13 touchdowns, but eight picks through just eight
- 54:42games. So a little loose with the ball.
- 54:45Brian, what do you think? Yeah, I mean, as you said, he's
- 54:49a COVID year super senior and was really a late bloomer in
- 54:53terms of his time out There was kind of in a battle back in 2021
- 55:01when he was still at Purdue and lost.
- 55:03That battle ended up transferring.
- 55:06Had a pretty good season, that Cal.
- 55:09And then decided to use that super senior final year to take
- 55:14a chance on himself, go back with Braun and can get in this
- 55:17offense. So what I what I like about him
- 55:21watching his game he he makes really quick decisions and gets
- 55:24rid of the football pretty quickly from a rushing
- 55:28standpoint. You'll see some occasional
- 55:31quarterback keepers, just mostly to keep the defense honest.
- 55:35He's not a rushing threat. He will sometimes break the
- 55:37pocket. But usually when he does that,
- 55:39he's looking to throw. He's only scrambling if it's a
- 55:42wide open lane there. He's accurate in the short and
- 55:45intermediate passing game. Does take a shot here there, but
- 55:49that's not really his strength. But what he does, he does get
- 55:52into trouble when that first read isn't open or or when he
- 55:56trusts his arm too much. He does have a really good arm,
- 56:00but sometimes he trusts that arm too much and put the ball into
- 56:02harm's way. So as Curtis said, he will throw
- 56:05some interceptions in there. So that's what you're going to
- 56:08get with plumber. You're going to get a guy that
- 56:09can kind of carve you up in the short intermediate game.
- 56:12But if you can get some pressure on him, make him go a little bit
- 56:15quicker than he's ready to make him throw the ball further down
- 56:18field, you might get some some pick opportunities there.
- 56:21Very nice, Tally. Who we looking at next?
- 56:24Yeah, the person who he's throwing the ball to most of the
- 56:26time is Jabari Thrash. He's about 6-1, about one 85190.
- 56:33He's from LaGrange, GA 2019 kid. He transferred to Louisville
- 56:38from Georgia State. So this is his first year with
- 56:44Louisville. He was a 83 composite ranking
- 56:50out of high school. Didn't have many big offers.
- 56:55Georgia State. Arkansas State.
- 56:59He had some looks from Georgia Tech but didn't have an offer.
- 57:03So Georgia Southern. A couple of others that he had
- 57:06offers from him. So no, no big schools really
- 57:09there. And he's been you know he's been
- 57:13their guy on offense. He has about 712 yards receiving
- 57:19so far this year. Pulling it up right now.
- 57:27Yeah, yeah, he say. What now?
- 57:30You're efforting, Yeah. He's got 7 hundred, 712 yards, 6
- 57:35touchdowns. His long being 85 yards.
- 57:40Brian, what you got on him? Yeah man, he's he's a big time
- 57:45threat man. They really use him every, every
- 57:47level of the defense, most of the route tree is available to
- 57:50him. Bread and butter is kind of
- 57:52that, that that short stuff, intermediate stuff that he can.
- 57:56Kind of get a catch and run opportunity when he's got some
- 57:58space there to operate and taking those long distances, but
- 58:02they will throw the deep ball to him as well, usually off that
- 58:05play action. So.
- 58:07So look for him to really kind of hurt you at every level of
- 58:10the defense. He's a guy you got to keep keep
- 58:12an eye on the whole time, man. Yeah.
- 58:15Absolutely. And one last piece about him.
- 58:18Teammates with Derek Canteen for the last several years at
- 58:22Georgia State. So maybe we get a little Intel.
- 58:25He went to, he went to State canteen with the Southern.
- 58:28Oh shoot, not that doesn't went to State.
- 58:30No Canteen went to Georgia Southern, but he went to Georgia
- 58:34State. And I've got a buddy here that I
- 58:36sold cars with. His son transferred from Georgia
- 58:39State to USC this year. So Southern Cal.
- 58:43His name is Jamil Muhammad. So I've watched Jamil play and
- 58:47I've seen this kid play before this year and he is really
- 58:51talented, so. He's definitely got to keep our
- 58:54own Jamari thrash and something real quick.
- 58:57We were, we were, we were shooting the breeze about this
- 58:59right before you take a look after Jamari thrash, nobody's
- 59:03over 300 yards. Nobody's over 300 yards.
- 59:08The highest next perception. He's got 46 perceptions. 17
- 59:13That's a big stinking gap between wide outs, and one
- 59:18reason it can be a big stinking gap between wide outs is because
- 59:21of their running back Jahar and. Jordan, 5 foot 10185 pounds,
- 59:27hometown of Long Island, New York.
- 59:29Originally a commit to Syracuse way back in 2018.
- 59:36He was a three star composite. Played an 88 with 247.
- 59:41Played a couple years, therefore he transferred down to
- 59:43Louisville. Had a solid season last year
- 59:46with over 815 yards and he is not only surpassed that already
- 59:51this year, he's blown by his touchdown numbers as well and
- 59:54his average yards per carry 824. This year, 7 1/2 per carry, 10
- 59:59touchdowns and Bryan is he used out of the backfield.
- 1:00:05Thumb Not not a ton. He'll he'll get a couple catches
- 1:00:08a game, but he's not he's not any sort of primary weapon that
- 1:00:12they're using in the in the passing attack.
- 1:00:15What he is really good at is he. He has great vision at the point
- 1:00:18of point of attack. He can be a home run hitter.
- 1:00:21He's got that type of elite speed.
- 1:00:24Like I said, good. He shows good hands out of the
- 1:00:25backfield, but they don't really target him that heavily in that
- 1:00:29in that mode they'll occasionally throw kind of a
- 1:00:34screen here or there. They'll throw screens to their
- 1:00:36wide outs, you know, screens the tight end.
- 1:00:40So they'll they'll they'll throw some screens that's in their
- 1:00:42repertoire, but it's not something that they target him a
- 1:00:46ton on. But he is the absolutely the
- 1:00:48engine that makes that offense go.
- 1:00:50If he has a rough game, they're going to have a a tough time
- 1:00:52scoring the football. So if we can stop him, we can
- 1:00:56make them one-dimensional. That's a good sign for us.
- 1:00:59Yeah, Brian was mentioning to us.
- 1:01:01All right, before we jumped on, when he went down in that pit
- 1:01:04game, that offense sort of fell apart.
- 1:01:07And it did. And we and we know what pit is.
- 1:01:09We know what Pit is and and NC State contained them and they
- 1:01:13they put up 13 points. They put up, they NC State
- 1:01:16should have won that game. We were mentioning it.
- 1:01:17Brendan Armstrong had been the quarterback.
- 1:01:19NC State would have won that game.
- 1:01:21So Brian, I'm going to let you. I don't want to say it because I
- 1:01:25was sad when I had to say it earlier.
- 1:01:26Let's talk about their offensive line and who's it led by?
- 1:01:30Well, it's led by a guy named Brian Hudson.
- 1:01:32So when when you when you think about that and you think about a
- 1:01:36few years back and what could have been that, that definitely
- 1:01:39makes you sad because we could really use a Brian Hudson on
- 1:01:42this offensive line right now. And a Doug master And a Doug
- 1:01:46master. Yeah, yeah, you have those two.
- 1:01:49You're looking pretty good. Yeah, you're looking pretty damn
- 1:01:52good. But yeah, so that.
- 1:01:55But that's another, that's another former Hokie that's
- 1:01:58that's shining elsewhere, graded very highly in PFF last year, is
- 1:02:04putting out another good campaign so far this year,
- 1:02:07locking down that center spot. And he's he's really the guy
- 1:02:11that that helps that team be able to run like they do.
- 1:02:14I mean he's very, very good in the run game.
- 1:02:18So that's something to keep an eye on.
- 1:02:21Obviously the rest of their offensive line, solid run
- 1:02:23blocking, especially gap schemes.
- 1:02:25When they pull those, those guards and and and tackles, they
- 1:02:30do a pretty good job of clearing things out there.
- 1:02:34They do a good job blocking in the screen game guys get up to
- 1:02:37the next level, get a get a hat on a hat, give them some
- 1:02:40opportunities to kind of operate in open space there.
- 1:02:44But pasper's a mixed bag. Their their tackles are only OK.
- 1:02:49They the garden tackle combinations sometimes with if
- 1:02:53you can run some stunts or some some blitzes at them, sometimes
- 1:02:56they can get confused and they stay, struggle with blitz, pick
- 1:02:59up off that edge pretty well. So if we're attacking off the
- 1:03:02edge with Kianta or or Kalai Lawson on the other side, I
- 1:03:07think we're going to be all right.
- 1:03:10All righty. So get home all.
- 1:03:12Right. So there is the offense again.
- 1:03:15You know, this is a pretty dangerous offensive team and you
- 1:03:18see the weapons and you see how much they're scoring.
- 1:03:23So it's good to have knowing some news notes on the way they
- 1:03:26like to do things. We appreciate that, Brian.
- 1:03:28All right. Brian's work's never done.
- 1:03:31Next he has to go look at the defense.
- 1:03:33And Brian, let's talk about this defense and because it is a
- 1:03:37change, right, because they were a four, three last year under
- 1:03:40Brian Brown with Scott 3/4. 340 excuse me?
- 1:03:433/4 what? They have changed completely
- 1:03:46this year? Yeah, you're looking at a 425
- 1:03:49scheme they employ that stand up defensive end that we've seen a
- 1:03:54couple times this season. We'll shift into kind of a 245
- 1:03:59nickel package when they're trying to get after the passer
- 1:04:02on those those third long situations.
- 1:04:05Not super blitz heavy as much as you would think for a 4/2, but
- 1:04:10they would do like to bring pressure and they will shift the
- 1:04:12fronts to create confusion. So, you know, not, not something
- 1:04:16we're unfamiliar with here, but probably a little less
- 1:04:20aggressive, leaning a little bit more on their defensive line to
- 1:04:23get some some pressure on the quarterback.
- 1:04:26Yeah. And that group is led by Mark
- 1:04:28Hagan and Ron English. They are a Code DC unit.
- 1:04:31Watching that game on Saturday afternoon, English is the play
- 1:04:35caller. They mentioned that several
- 1:04:37times. But something that I found very
- 1:04:39interesting and and and this really piqued my interest was
- 1:04:44they are 19th in the country in sacks.
- 1:04:46That's that's pretty good, right?
- 1:04:48You top 25 in sacks, you're getting to the quarterback.
- 1:04:51Usually you see that it correlates to tackles for loss.
- 1:04:56They're not big on that, 70th in the country in tackle for loss.
- 1:05:00And Brian, they do have a really good.
- 1:05:05The defensive end that is making some hay.
- 1:05:08He is pretty high up in the country as far as it comes to
- 1:05:12total sacks. He's got like 8 1/2.
- 1:05:15Let's talk about Ashton Gillett who is a six foot three £270
- 1:05:24defensive end out of Boca Raton FL class of 2021 and 85.
- 1:05:29All he was was an 85 when he came out.
- 1:05:32Biggest offers. This is where you always look at
- 1:05:34those stories. Maryland, Duke, Kansas.
- 1:05:36Wake Forest for some of his big offers.
- 1:05:39And he, I said 8 1/2 sacks. Excuse me.
- 1:05:43Yeah, 8 1/2 sacks so far this year, 27 tackles.
- 1:05:47He's forced a couple fumbles. He's he's balling.
- 1:05:51And what can we do to stop him and what's he show?
- 1:05:55Yeah, I mean you know, typically he's the hand in the dirt
- 1:05:57defensive end that they will kind of have him standing up
- 1:06:00depending on the alignment. But usually he's the guy with
- 1:06:02the end of the dirt. He's coming hard off the edge,
- 1:06:06really good against the run. Will also be very good in the in
- 1:06:10the pass rush game here, steady when they run at him, but plays
- 1:06:16flat and fast and in pursuit. So he does good there as well.
- 1:06:19But he does get after the quarterback, especially if you
- 1:06:21give him one-on-one opportunities.
- 1:06:23He can be neutralized a little bit when you run another guy at
- 1:06:25him, but obviously that's going to take away from, you know,
- 1:06:29protection elsewhere if you're doing that consistently.
- 1:06:31So when he gets one-on-one opportunities he can get after
- 1:06:34the quarterback pretty good. Yep.
- 1:06:36And I was mentioning where he was.
- 1:06:37He's 5th in the country in sacks, 5th AP, RS4.
- 1:06:41There's only three guys in front of them.
- 1:06:44And there is only one Power Five guy in front of those two, and
- 1:06:47that's Jonah Ellis out at Utah. So those boys are doing work
- 1:06:51regardless. All right, I want to flip.
- 1:06:53Let's go back one unit. Let's talk about the defense.
- 1:06:56Excuse me, the linebacker room. And I looked and he caught my
- 1:07:00eye, was TJ Quinn. TJ Quinn out of Valdosta, GA
- 1:07:07Loudon's a 2021 recruit. 85 Not a big recruit if you go to his
- 1:07:13247 page everybody. On hokey jersey.
- 1:07:17Hokey jersey, He was a He officially visited the Hokies
- 1:07:21back in 2020. He was on our radar, and now
- 1:07:26he's down at Louisville so far this year.
- 1:07:31Get the stat line up here. He was one of them.
- 1:07:33Silence, wasn't he? Yeah.
- 1:07:36Of course. Silent, Silent 62 total tackles.
- 1:07:41One formal recovery, couple pass deflections and you know the
- 1:07:46last couple weeks he's had really good weeks. 19 total
- 1:07:50tackles between Pitt and Duke and pass deflection and a 1 1/2
- 1:07:56tackles for loss. Brian Where is he playing
- 1:08:00exactly and what do we need to be wary of him for?
- 1:08:04Yeah, he's playing that safety spot, really balance safety.
- 1:08:07They kind of use him both as a ball hawk and in run support.
- 1:08:13Great zone coverage defender. He's decent a man, but he can't
- 1:08:17get caught in space with some double moves.
- 1:08:20So if we're running at him, throw a little double move on
- 1:08:23there. Getting a little shifty might
- 1:08:24might get turned around a little bit, but he does a good job of
- 1:08:28filling in the running game. He gets there.
- 1:08:31He's not the best tackler. He's not the most sure tackler,
- 1:08:34but he is a willing hitter when he got comes in the box and you
- 1:08:39know as you said he's a guy that we've seen kind of a lot of the
- 1:08:42years. We saw him a lot with the that
- 1:08:44that UNC match up in the Coastal.
- 1:08:47So we're very familiar with the with with with his game and it's
- 1:08:53interesting how we almost had this as the match up that we
- 1:08:58would have been talking about in in three weeks and four, four
- 1:09:01weeks at this point instead of talking today because he was, he
- 1:09:05did play the spring game at UVA. So it's been a weird journey for
- 1:09:11Cameron Kelly, from a hokey silent commit to a UVA spring
- 1:09:16practice participant to now a Louisville starting safety.
- 1:09:19So. Definitely.
- 1:09:21Definitely. When you talk about Cameron
- 1:09:23Kelly, he was committed to Virginia Tech and then he went
- 1:09:31to Auburn. Then he transferred from Auburn
- 1:09:33and he went to North Carolina. Then he transferred from North
- 1:09:36Carolina and went to UVA. Then he never played at UVA and
- 1:09:40went to Louisville. So he's been kind of all over
- 1:09:45the place. But he's having a good year this
- 1:09:48year. He's going to be, you know, he's
- 1:09:52going to be tough to tough wild wide receivers to get loose on.
- 1:09:55So I'm just excited to see what they can do.
- 1:09:59Absolutely, Absolutely, boys. So now we got that.
- 1:10:02We got the key players on each side of the ball we feel could
- 1:10:05have impacts or potentially guys.
- 1:10:07If we can take out of the game, especially the offense, we take
- 1:10:11any one of those two offensive weapons out of the game, it will
- 1:10:14drastically hurt that team. We've got to talk about our
- 1:10:17keys, Brian, you've been talking a lot, so I'm going to let Tally
- 1:10:20leave this one so you can get a little sip of water and catch
- 1:10:22your breath. Tally, what's your key to this
- 1:10:25game? Get on that quarterback's ass.
- 1:10:29He showed you he can throw picks.
- 1:10:31He showed you he will throw picks.
- 1:10:33He can throw touchdowns too. He's got 13 touchdowns and eight
- 1:10:37picks. Hey, I like our chances.
- 1:10:40If we get it, if we pressure him, if we, he's not going to
- 1:10:43kill you running the ball. Like Brian said, he may move
- 1:10:47around the pocket a little bit, but he's not going to escape and
- 1:10:50you know, hit you 450 yard touchdown.
- 1:10:53You got to get pressure on him and if anybody can get pressure
- 1:10:56on him, I'm going to say the Hokies can get pressure on him.
- 1:10:58We got one of the best SAC leaders, one of the best SAC
- 1:11:02Titians in the country on our team.
- 1:11:05Hey, go get after them this week.
- 1:11:08It's time to put up a shut up. This is a big week.
- 1:11:11We've said this every week, Curtis.
- 1:11:13I know this weight game is huge. This, this, this pit game is
- 1:11:19huge. This Syracuse game is huge.
- 1:11:22But really, this game here, you're going on the road.
- 1:11:26And you're playing a ranked team, you know, and whoever wins
- 1:11:30this game is in second place in the ACC.
- 1:11:34There are no more divisions. So this is a huge game.
- 1:11:40This is a this is a game where Virginia Tech can put themselves
- 1:11:47on the map more than they are. Brett Pratt can solidify his
- 1:11:50coaching career here. And this team this season, man,
- 1:11:55they've they've turned it around.
- 1:11:58They've turned it around already.
- 1:11:59But you know, we still got big goals.
- 1:12:02You know, like I said from the beginning, I said, hey, just
- 1:12:04give you to a bowl game. These guys may be looking for
- 1:12:07ACC championship, man. And I got, I got to say this
- 1:12:10before I let y'all say what you said because Grayson wanted me
- 1:12:14to tell Shelton. But you know, Shelton's not only
- 1:12:16here tonight, Grayson said. Sheldon, you got to quit telling
- 1:12:20people that. They can't dream about the ACC
- 1:12:23championship. Let us dream.
- 1:12:26That's what Grayson said. He, and I think his worst was
- 1:12:29tell Shelton to kick rocks. I'm just saying, I'm just saying
- 1:12:35you Shelton, I don't think you're feeling good tonight,
- 1:12:38man, but when you watch this, Grayson said.
- 1:12:40Let let Hokey Nation have this. They want to.
- 1:12:44They want to get this. They want to get to this ACC
- 1:12:47championship. Mr. Drones What's going on, my
- 1:12:50friend? Mr. Jones, how are you doing
- 1:12:53tonight? Good to have you along with us.
- 1:12:56And Brian, I am going to pitch back to you now because we
- 1:12:59usually do 4. Shelton's not here, so I'm going
- 1:13:02to take the two at the end and I know you got one on the
- 1:13:04offensive side of the ball. Yeah, it really.
- 1:13:07I mean, it's holds true on both sides of the ball.
- 1:13:11You got to be effective on 1st downs, stay on schedule as an
- 1:13:14offense, and on the other side we need to stop them for being
- 1:13:19effective on 1st downs. That way we can get pressure on
- 1:13:22that quarterback, make him make some mistakes, get those sacks,
- 1:13:25get those interceptions. So that's the key for me.
- 1:13:29Go out there and be effective on both sides of the ball on 1st
- 1:13:32down. Get us into a situation that's
- 1:13:34favorable. Keep them in unfavorable
- 1:13:36situations. All right, so I got two.
- 1:13:41The first I've kind of already alluded to.
- 1:13:44We've got to get them to 3rd down, get them to 3rd down.
- 1:13:48Where they seem to struggle for whatever reason, I'm going to
- 1:13:52assume, Brian, you tell me if I'm right or am I going down the
- 1:13:56right Rd. The reason being that sort of
- 1:13:58tempo offense, If you're getting them in the third, they haven't
- 1:14:01probably hit a good play right? If if you're getting them to
- 1:14:06third, number one, you can't run tempo out of unless you pick up
- 1:14:10that first down #2. If you're trying to run the
- 1:14:12tempo, that means you've had two plays that have not been what
- 1:14:16you would call successful plays. They might have been good enough
- 1:14:21to get you in a third and short situation, but they are not what
- 1:14:25you really want to see from a tempo, situation, tempo.
- 1:14:27You want to be successful on 1st and 2nd.
- 1:14:29You want to keep the defense on the heat their heels.
- 1:14:32You want any third down you get to to be a third and one or two
- 1:14:36yards. There we go.
- 1:14:37And if they're if they get it, they're not hitting tempo, it
- 1:14:40probably means they did not hit at least A5 plus play.
- 1:14:44The second piece, and I said it earlier, we need takeaways.
- 1:14:47If you go look back at the pit game and you look at the NC
- 1:14:50State game, they turn the ball over multiple times.
- 1:14:54I think we need three. I think we need 3 turnovers in
- 1:14:57this game and now we got to go make our predictions boys.
- 1:15:02Prediction and Our big screeners, which we're going to
- 1:15:04talk about, is presented by prize picks.
- 1:15:07Our big Screener segment always presented by Prize picks.
- 1:15:09Prize Pick, a daily fantasy app where you make entries based on
- 1:15:13player projected outcomes. This week I'm going to tell you
- 1:15:15what I'm going with. The Jets are playing the
- 1:15:18Chargers. Justin Herbert's at 267 1/2.
- 1:15:22Go under because The Jets are a really good defense.
- 1:15:26Zach Wilson's at 198 1/2. Zach Wilson's not a good
- 1:15:29quarterback? Go under.
- 1:15:31Make the two unders in that and that should help you make a
- 1:15:34little bit of money for the prize picks.
- 1:15:38So again prize picks they will match up to any deposit up to
- 1:15:43$100 when you sign up using the code BC PIX QR CODE there on the
- 1:15:47screen or boundary corner dot BC PIX.
- 1:15:50I do not have our records from last week.
- 1:15:52I didn't forgot to pull it up. I don't think it was great,
- 1:15:55honestly. Mine's never great.
- 1:15:58Fatally, Fatally. As always all.
- 1:16:01Right. So I'm going to lead this
- 1:16:05because as much as my heart wants to do it, my head cannot
- 1:16:10do it because I say we need 3 turnovers.
- 1:16:12I think we get 2, but I think we lose a war against Louisville at
- 1:16:16Louisville 3330. That that stupid line that came
- 1:16:21out of 12 1/2, that's already went down to 10.
- 1:16:24If I'm betting against the spread, give me the Hokies all
- 1:16:26day because I do think we're going to be able to keep up with
- 1:16:29them. They have shown they are a good
- 1:16:31defense, but they have shown flaws at times.
- 1:16:34I do think kind of drones is the most dynamic quarterback they
- 1:16:40will have seen all year. Honestly, I don't think they'll
- 1:16:43see anybody else like him all year.
- 1:16:45So Louisville win, Hokies cover. And I'm sad about that tally.
- 1:16:54You know what, before we started talking and before Brian gave me
- 1:16:58all of the knowledge that he gave me, I I was with you and
- 1:17:01and would have said, you know, the Hokies are cover, but
- 1:17:06Louisville to win. But I I'm going to, I'm going to
- 1:17:08say the Hokies are going to pull one out.
- 1:17:10I'm going to say, you know, I'm, I'm going to go with Hokies.
- 1:17:15I don't know. I want to go 20/28/21 is what
- 1:17:19I'm going to do. I just feel like.
- 1:17:22With our defensive line playing, how they're playing and how
- 1:17:27they've been able to get to the quarterback, I don't know if
- 1:17:30their quarterback can handle the pressure that's going to come to
- 1:17:32him. And I think he's going to turn
- 1:17:33the ball over. And I think we may get those 3
- 1:17:35picks. I mean, I think we may get those
- 1:17:373 turnovers that you say we need.
- 1:17:39And I just think that how our guys have responded, they know
- 1:17:45what's at stake and I think we're going to go in and I think
- 1:17:49we're going to bring our own guts.
- 1:17:52I'm hoping this is the this is what I'm hoping because we've
- 1:17:55been a much different team on the road than we've been at
- 1:17:58home. So I got AI got a ride with our
- 1:18:01guys just because I'm not sold on on Louisville.
- 1:18:04Louisville's a good team but Louisville show they got, you
- 1:18:07know they've got a great receiver and they've got a good
- 1:18:09running game. So if we can at least keep that
- 1:18:14in check we got a chance there. So I'm going to go Hokies 2821
- 1:18:18all. Right, Brian, what about you,
- 1:18:20man? Yeah, I'm going Hokies here too,
- 1:18:25to cover. I've got this one coming down to
- 1:18:27the wire, man. I think the Hokies are playing
- 1:18:31with as much confidence as we've seen in a good while, and I
- 1:18:36think that's going to feed it. I think it might just be a
- 1:18:38little, little too much there at the end with the home field
- 1:18:41advantage. I've got the Hokies losing a
- 1:18:43tight 13127 Louisville. I think it's something that you
- 1:18:50can still have some solid takeaways from, even in The
- 1:18:53Lost, but I'm hoping it goes the way Tally's talking, I tell.
- 1:18:56You we we hoping Tally is right on that one and you go and put
- 1:19:02it up. We did not get an official.
- 1:19:04All we got from Shelton was Virginia Tech.
- 1:19:08We did not. We're taking that as a as a
- 1:19:09cover, not a win, until we hear otherwise.
- 1:19:12Until you. Otherwise, we'll put it out
- 1:19:14there and let you know. Once he gives us again, Sheldon
- 1:19:17under the weather tonight, not going to be here with us.
- 1:19:19All right, as always, we are college football fans, second
- 1:19:23after being Hokies fans. And there are actually some good
- 1:19:26games on the slate this week. A couple over lappings.
- 1:19:29But let's start with the first one.
- 1:19:30Brian. I got this one up here.
- 1:19:32Kansas State of Texas. Huge game for the Big 12.
- 1:19:36Huge game with Oklahoma losing last week.
- 1:19:38They're on the verge of losing potentially their playoff spot.
- 1:19:43And we got. Kansas State rolling down into
- 1:19:45Texas. Kansas State blew the crap out
- 1:19:48of Houston 41. Nothing.
- 1:19:51I think Texas is obviously Texas is coming off a win and I think
- 1:19:55for this one I think Texas is good enough defensively to win
- 1:20:03this one by touchdown. I think it's going to be ugly,
- 1:20:06low scoring affair, something like 2013 Texas.
- 1:20:13Yeah, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm going to take Texas as well.
- 1:20:17In this game. I didn't really have a score
- 1:20:19prediction, but similar to what Curtis is saying, I don't think
- 1:20:23it's going to be, you know, super high scoring or or or a
- 1:20:26big blowout, but I think Texas will win by a touchdown.
- 1:20:29I just don't know the exact number.
- 1:20:34Michelle thought the same thing there.
- 1:20:36So he has Texas covering here the the five line and so do I.
- 1:20:41We're going across the board back-to-back here.
- 1:20:45I think it it will be a low scoring affair, but I think it's
- 1:20:47going to be something like 2413 Texas.
- 1:20:52All right, low scoring affairs there in Austin on Saturday.
- 1:20:56Got a big night game down in Tally's neck of the woods Tally.
- 1:21:00What's your game of the week, Sir?
- 1:21:02Bama and LSU? Man, I remember when this Bama,
- 1:21:05LSU game used to be like three to six, six to nine, you know?
- 1:21:12What I'm saying we we we saw that game and then they gave it
- 1:21:14to us again later in the year, man.
- 1:21:16Yeah, it would be dude. It would be some ugly knock down
- 1:21:20drag outs between these two teams.
- 1:21:22And I don't know if people know a lot about Texas.
- 1:21:24I mean about Alabama, LSU they they really hate each other that
- 1:21:29is that is two schools that are are a a big rivalry for each
- 1:21:36other. So man I got to go I'm going to
- 1:21:39go Bama on this man. I mean I just I think Bama is is
- 1:21:44hitting their stride. I think they found out similar
- 1:21:48to to how we did as far as their quarterback situation.
- 1:21:53Who's the quarterback and they've endorsed him.
- 1:22:01Froze up. I'm just, I'm going to go
- 1:22:05Alabama. I don't know.
- 1:22:06I don't have a score prediction, but I'm, I'm going to say
- 1:22:07Alabama and they're going to cover.
- 1:22:09Cover the four. All righty.
- 1:22:11What Shelton got there, Brian? Shelton's going Bama here.
- 1:22:15All right, I'm against y'all on this one.
- 1:22:17I think I don't know who wins the game, but I think based on
- 1:22:21there's been shaky play from Alabama times, There's been
- 1:22:23shaky play from LSU at times. Still, to this day, Nick Saban
- 1:22:28cannot figure out. Guys who are athletic and
- 1:22:32quarterback, he's always struggled.
- 1:22:35When you go back a decade ago, he struggled, Tyrod, when they
- 1:22:38were out telling us. Same with Logan.
- 1:22:41I think LSU is going to cover. Give me the four.
- 1:22:44I think you know what, this is probably going to be an
- 1:22:46entertaining night game to watch because it is going to be an
- 1:22:488:00 kick. So give me LSU.
- 1:22:51Yep. And we're We're both in the same
- 1:22:53path there. I took LSU as well.
- 1:22:57I just think, as you said, man, they struggle sometimes with
- 1:23:00these athletic quarterbacks. LS us got probably one of the
- 1:23:04best ones in the country. So give me LSU here.
- 1:23:09I think LSU is going to win this one outright.
- 1:23:11So Bama will be eliminated from playoff contention here.
- 1:23:16Oh, there's going to be a lot of crying if that happened down
- 1:23:19here. Man, you'll have to you have to
- 1:23:22bring on one of their fans next week so we can just hear it.
- 1:23:25All righty. I want whoever calls into some
- 1:23:28of those SEC shows. Man, Oh my gosh.
- 1:23:32Tell me the truth, All right? Brian, who you got?
- 1:23:35I've got Mizzou and Georgia. This line is kind of crazy to
- 1:23:41me. I was like, all right.
- 1:23:43So if it floated out there at 16, I was like, let's grab that
- 1:23:46one because I feel like. Mizzou's kind of shown to be a a
- 1:23:50tough out this year, so you know, I'm I'm rolling with
- 1:23:54Mizzou here. I think it's going to be a lot
- 1:23:56closer than folks are thinking. I do think Georgia has figured
- 1:23:59whatever they hadn't figured out at the start of season out, they
- 1:24:02look like a legit national championship contender now.
- 1:24:06They look like a team that was probably going to make the
- 1:24:09playoff but didn't look like they could take GO all the way.
- 1:24:12This year. They're starting to look like
- 1:24:14that team. They've gelled a little bit.
- 1:24:17I think that 16 line is still a little fuzzy though.
- 1:24:19I think it's probably about A2 touchdown game, but it doesn't
- 1:24:21quite get to that 16. No, it's not.
- 1:24:24Y'all Georgia tricked us last week, didn't they?
- 1:24:28Oh, 14 1/2 to Florida. Yeah, Florida will hang in and
- 1:24:31they beat them by like 26. Yeah, Georgia.
- 1:24:36Georgia by 234017, Man, I don't know.
- 1:24:41If I had to, if I was putting some money on it, I might not do
- 1:24:43it. But I'm going Mizzou on this as
- 1:24:45well, Brian, I kind of feel the same way, you know, maybe about
- 1:24:4814 points, but you know, two touchdowns at the field goal.
- 1:24:54I don't know, man. I don't think Georgia is going
- 1:24:56to beat them by that much. Think Georgia wins, but not by,
- 1:24:59not by more than 16 all. Right.
- 1:25:01What's Sheldon got on this one? Sheldon is riding with us.
- 1:25:04Man. You're the odd man out here.
- 1:25:05The. Odd man out on this one.
- 1:25:07Y'all going to be sitting here after the Hokies pulled the
- 1:25:09upset against Louisville. Y'all going to turn over to CBS.
- 1:25:124930 Man, we should have listened to Curtis all grief.
- 1:25:17All righty. By the way.
- 1:25:18Next game we pull up. This is Sheldon's choice.
- 1:25:21Go ahead, pull it up, Brian. Oklahoma.
- 1:25:24Oklahoma State. Bethlehem.
- 1:25:26Always a crazy game. For the foreseeable future, this
- 1:25:30game will not be played with the move.
- 1:25:34I'm going to put this strictly on Oklahoma because they the Big
- 1:25:37Blue blood. You know Oklahoma State wants to
- 1:25:40play them every year. You know they do.
- 1:25:42So I'm putting this on Oklahoma. If you're an Oklahoma fan out
- 1:25:45there, why why don't you play them every year?
- 1:25:48Yeah. Figure it out.
- 1:25:49Figure it out. Losing things like this, like we
- 1:25:51lost Texas Texas A&M, which we'll get back in a few years
- 1:25:54here is sad. But for this game, Oklahoma,
- 1:26:00Oklahoma State, Brian, I am not sure what Shelton picked.
- 1:26:04He's riding with Oklahoma, man. He's riding with Boomer Sooner,
- 1:26:08who are coming off their loss up at Kansas, which.
- 1:26:12I I was, did y'all see the end of that game?
- 1:26:14I know, Brian, you were doing a bunch of stuff that you see the
- 1:26:16end. That was insane.
- 1:26:18Yeah, it really was. I picked Kansas to to cover in
- 1:26:21that game, though, so I kind of feel good about that, what
- 1:26:25happened? But I'm going to go Oklahoma in
- 1:26:27this as well. I think Oklahoma's going to be a
- 1:26:30little pissed off and they don't come in and take care of
- 1:26:34business. But you, Brian.
- 1:26:38I got Oklahoma. I think you're going to get a
- 1:26:39pissed off Oklahoma. This is a team that they they
- 1:26:44might have lost what they're playing for, but they've still
- 1:26:47got to go through the schedule went out.
- 1:26:49I think they're going to refocus, get back to what they
- 1:26:53do best, and I think that's going to be enough against this,
- 1:26:58the Pokes over there. Yeah.
- 1:27:01And I'm with y'all Oklahoma. I think if they blend with
- 1:27:04Kansas, I think this line would be like 8/8 and 1/2 and then you
- 1:27:08know, go the other way. But that loss to Kansas is going
- 1:27:11to piss them off. Give me Oklahoma.
- 1:27:13And we got one last one. USC UW Washington is the
- 1:27:22favorite at -5 Bron. Got to switch up the graphic.
- 1:27:26That's all right. Not not a problem here.
- 1:27:30USC basically had to play for their lives at Cal.
- 1:27:37Cal is a team that's struggling. Y'all right now, 450 to 49.
- 1:27:44Cal did the right thing. By the way, Cal went for two at
- 1:27:47the end. Yeah, they went for two at the
- 1:27:49end. You the underdog, you ain't got
- 1:27:51nothing to lose. You ain't got nothing to play
- 1:27:52for. Go for the win and go for the
- 1:27:54win. So here we go for this game.
- 1:27:59Brian, USC UW. Who you got?
- 1:28:06Dub all the way, man this. This Trojan team has not
- 1:28:10impressed me in really any game so far this season.
- 1:28:15There hasn't really been one game where they went out there
- 1:28:17and dominated the way I thought they would, especially out of
- 1:28:20after what they look like most of last season.
- 1:28:24They've really underperformed in my eyes all year.
- 1:28:27So I'm going with the the Huskies here.
- 1:28:30All righty, I'm next. I'm with the Huskies as well on
- 1:28:32this one. The Huskies have a They're not
- 1:28:37an elite defense. I think they've got enough
- 1:28:39defense like we've seen between a couple of the losses issued to
- 1:28:43slow Oregon down. Ain't no way USC slowing down
- 1:28:46Michael Pennix in that offense, no.
- 1:28:49It ain't no way Pennix might win.
- 1:28:52Pennix might win the Heisman. He might win.
- 1:28:54He might win the Heisman. I'm going, I'm going with the
- 1:28:59Huskies as well. I mean, why not?
- 1:29:01From what we've seen and what we've seen from USC, lack of
- 1:29:06defense, you know, like, why would we think they're going to
- 1:29:10stop to hide somebody that's in the Heisman race?
- 1:29:12So if Sheldon has anything different than what we see
- 1:29:16between us three, we're going to have to have a talk with him.
- 1:29:19What do you got? And I'm going to do something
- 1:29:23real quick if somebody I caught it. 3IN Rex Parker, one of our
- 1:29:27listeners out here, you win for every pick.
- 1:29:29So we going to put yours up here.
- 1:29:30Rex is with all of us with Texas.
- 1:29:33Rex is riding with me and Brian with LSUI ain't the only one.
- 1:29:38Rex is riding with Georgia. Rex is going against us.
- 1:29:42He thinks this folks are going to take it personal here and
- 1:29:46then let's go here. He's with us on UW and he does
- 1:29:49say Vt covers Rex. We appreciate your input.
- 1:29:52If I'd have caught it early, I'd have put them up every time.
- 1:29:54Oh, by the way, thank you, TIB, for putting this up.
- 1:29:57Kansas has more wins all time over Oklahoma than Oakley State
- 1:30:01does. That's a tough one to believe.
- 1:30:03That's that's a fun fact right there.
- 1:30:05That is a fun fact. That's.
- 1:30:06A fun fact. Y'all out there giving us some
- 1:30:08tidbits, boys. Y'all got the Twittersphere up.
- 1:30:11Anything happening? What's happening in the games?
- 1:30:14I couldn't. I couldn't have all the
- 1:30:15bandwidth inside the room here tonight because 26. 2614 lines
- 1:30:21up, but the Raiders have the ball and they're driving about
- 1:30:26basketball game. I ain't got that up.
- 1:30:29I ain't watching nothing right now, but I know the Lakers
- 1:30:31started playing at 9:30 and I'm like, I'm expecting us to lose
- 1:30:37for some reason. We can't.
- 1:30:38We don't like playing at the beginning of the year, so.
- 1:30:42Yeah, we we tend to not figure it out till sometime just before
- 1:30:44Christmas. And then we're like, all right,
- 1:30:46we'll start playing man all. Right.
- 1:30:47By the way, Rangers won 3-1 tonight to take a 21 lead.
- 1:30:51I guess that just wrapped up. I'm Hey, the pitch clock works.
- 1:30:56The game started at eight O 6. It's under 3 hours.
- 1:31:01Put some more up here that we're seeing folks throwing their
- 1:31:03picks out. Yeah, my my question is why is
- 1:31:10LeBron James playing like 26 minutes at the beginning?
- 1:31:13Shouldn't it be like play heavy the first month, then light for
- 1:31:17a while, then heavy again? I don't know what we doing, man,
- 1:31:20but he is our game. Yeah, we won one.
- 1:31:24We beat. We beat the Suns without two of
- 1:31:26their stars. It's still almost lost.
- 1:31:29I mean, they had to rant, but they didn't have really anybody
- 1:31:31else, right? Wanting to OK.
- 1:31:37I mean, we've been in every game.
- 1:31:38I guess that's one thing you can say.
- 1:31:39I mean, yeah, it wasn't, it wasn't like we got smoked in any
- 1:31:43game so far. I.
- 1:31:44Mean. Hey, Tally, you sure you want to
- 1:31:46turn it on? Y'all up right now.
- 1:31:48No, I'm not going to turn it on. I'm just going to find out.
- 1:31:50I'm going to go to sleep and wake up and see if we want it.
- 1:31:54Everybody. Next week when we come back and
- 1:31:57talk about the game, he's going to tell us he did not go to
- 1:32:00sleep that night and he stayed up till 12:00 watching the
- 1:32:03Lakers game probably. Garoppolo just missed a wide
- 1:32:06fucking open Devante Adams. He'd still be running right now.
- 1:32:09Oh. Man.
- 1:32:11Well, I don't think I'm playing either.
