- 0:02Speaker 1: Hug Watch is on for one of the most dominant
- 0:06Speaker 1: players in our sport. This is video from yesterday's after
- 0:11Speaker 1: noon outing for Derek Spougel. Dominant successful gets removed teams
- 0:17Speaker 1: up seven zip. They lost. They were up seven zip
- 0:22Speaker 1: in the sevenths. By the way, it was a tie
- 0:24Speaker 1: game by the eighth, but the ovation was awesome here aj.
- 0:28Speaker 1: It was also a day when he had his one
- 0:30Speaker 1: one thousand strikeout. That was when we were on and
- 0:32Speaker 1: then after we departed from our show at our usual time,
- 0:36Speaker 1: Tigers were the game. We've basically found out since like,
- 0:38Speaker 1: he's a lot to be traded, So there's a lot
- 0:40Speaker 1: going on in Detroit right now. That's why I'm wearing
- 0:43Speaker 1: Tiger territory shirt.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Yeah, but I mean he also he also gave up three.
- 0:47Speaker 2: I mean the bullpen gave up three, so he you know,
- 0:50Speaker 2: it was a little bit on tarike. He pitched good,
- 0:53Speaker 2: but not great, but he you know, the bullpen came
- 0:55Speaker 2: in and put gas on the flame. But he did
- 0:57Speaker 2: pitch really well the first six innings. But you're you're up,
- 1:00Speaker 2: you know, like that in a big league game, you
- 1:02Speaker 2: should win that game, and they did not, And that
- 1:03Speaker 2: just sums up why they're going to trade them.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Exactly. That was a big emotional swing Crats and actually
- 1:11Speaker 1: for the Orioles, they're like desperately trying to show their
- 1:14Speaker 1: front office that they still belong. So it was a
- 1:16Speaker 1: huge comeback win for them.
- 1:18Speaker 3: I think they've been playing a little bit better recently.
- 1:21Speaker 3: They're scoring a lot of runs. You know, probably a
- 1:23Speaker 3: little too late, too little too late, but yeah, I mean,
- 1:27Speaker 3: as much as you want Terry Scooble to get traded
- 1:30Speaker 3: or you don't want them to get traded, this game
- 1:31Speaker 3: swung it in whichever direction it was going to go.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, it was.
- 1:38Speaker 4: It was an awesome one and it was awesome though.
- 1:40Speaker 4: The ovation was really good. He got a thousand strikeout.
- 1:44Speaker 2: They had the big sign in center field showing how
- 1:48Speaker 2: many strikeouts he had. But the fans are pretty awesome.
- 1:51Speaker 2: The fans probably aren't going to be very happy today
- 1:53Speaker 2: when they wake up and.
- 1:53Speaker 4: They realize it more than likely Terror Scoobel is going
- 1:56Speaker 4: to be a Milwaukee brewery.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Let let them in. He came out and had a
- 2:01Speaker 3: meeting with him and he's like, right, you can get
- 2:03Speaker 3: one more hitter, And guy got a base hit up
- 2:05Speaker 3: the middle and then they took him out.
- 2:08Speaker 1: The one thing I don't like is like, oh well,
- 2:10Speaker 1: we're still gonna try. We'll get to it. I could
- 2:13Speaker 1: just mention it real quick right now. They're gonna call
- 2:15Speaker 1: it Max Clark this weekend. Great. I mean, I'm all
- 2:17Speaker 1: for calling up a guy if you feel like he's ready.
- 2:18Speaker 1: The timing is definitely interesting. They claim that's not what
- 2:21Speaker 1: it is. Okay, Uh, either way, that's fine. Here's my question.
- 2:25Speaker 1: If you're trading school, you should trade Casey Mice too. Right,
- 2:28Speaker 1: he's got a really nice year, Like, don't act like,
- 2:31Speaker 1: oh well, this is just because we have to get
- 2:33Speaker 1: something for Schooble, but we still think we can win
- 2:35Speaker 1: a World Series this year, Like trade your assets at
- 2:38Speaker 1: the deadline your short term has I.
- 2:41Speaker 3: Think he's sneaky underrated because he's always overshadowed by schoobl.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Uh.
- 2:47Speaker 4: You just the problem with Casey.
- 2:49Speaker 2: He's been hurt a lot, and he's basically he's been
- 2:53Speaker 2: basically a five inning guy a lot of his career.
- 2:55Speaker 2: I think that's the one thing you worry about with
- 2:56Speaker 2: Casey Miies if you're another team. Now, do I think
- 2:59Speaker 2: he can help a team one a million percent? He
- 3:01Speaker 2: could help a team. And the Max Clark thing getting
- 3:03Speaker 2: called up. I mean I looked at his numbers. Yeah
- 3:06Speaker 2: he's doing all right, he's doing okay, but I think
- 3:09Speaker 2: he's hot right now.
- 3:10Speaker 4: So they want to take advantage of that. And that's
- 3:11Speaker 4: just the way to make people say, oh, look the
- 3:15Speaker 4: Tigers are going to trade Google. But look what they
- 3:17Speaker 4: have coming in the future. Guys. They have Max Clark.
- 3:21Speaker 3: And Casey mice I mean, do you want Clay Holmes
- 3:24Speaker 3: just coming off an injury or Casey mice littered with injuries?
- 3:32Speaker 2: Yeah, agreed, agreed. I'm not I'm not saying that you know,
- 3:35Speaker 2: either one is the right choice. It just depends on
- 3:37Speaker 2: what you want. But I mean, Casey mice Is had
- 3:39Speaker 2: a nice run here, but not you know, he's not
- 3:42Speaker 2: I don't think Casey mies Is. I don't mean this
- 3:44Speaker 2: anything against Casey Mace, but I don't think, uh, you know,
- 3:47Speaker 2: he's a he's an franchise altering guy.
- 3:50Speaker 4: Maybe he's not the right way to put it, but none.
- 3:54Speaker 3: But I think he fits. But I think he fits
- 3:56Speaker 3: into the realm of you know, you look at the
- 3:58Speaker 3: Phillies and you go, okay, they the fifth starter. Does
- 4:02Speaker 3: he become that fifth starter guy with maybe more of
- 4:06Speaker 3: an upside than say Michael Lorenz and if he was available,
- 4:10Speaker 3: you know what I mean, Like there.
- 4:12Speaker 2: He fits in that, he fits up perfectly. He could
- 4:15Speaker 2: be a three for a lot of teams out there.
- 4:18Speaker 2: He could be a three and start a playoffs, no
- 4:20Speaker 2: doubt for the Phillies. Not the Phillies because they have
- 4:22Speaker 2: the three big ones at the top, but I mean
- 4:25Speaker 2: for the for most teams, he's probably starting a playoff game.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Casey would start a playoff game for many teams.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Yeah, although last year for Detroit they were like, one
- 4:36Speaker 2: time to the lineup, we got to get him out
- 4:37Speaker 2: if you remember so, yeah, it was like, oh, we
- 4:40Speaker 2: can't wait to get Casey's out of game.
- 4:42Speaker 1: That's part of their style too though, right, Like they're
- 4:44Speaker 1: very tempted to go to their controlled chaos the Tigers,
- 4:48Speaker 1: which works. Does it works for a round or so?
- 4:54Speaker 4: Yeah? I mean.
- 4:57Speaker 3: I mean that the argument would be, well, the Tigers,
- 5:00Speaker 3: they had, Detroit, they had they had Scooble, but the
- 5:03Speaker 3: one series they won Scoobal did he lose two or
- 5:07Speaker 3: do you lose the first one? And then they ended
- 5:09Speaker 3: up still coming back.
- 5:09Speaker 1: And yeah, they lost some starts.
- 5:11Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, it wasn't. Yeah.
- 5:13Speaker 2: But also let's not forget they had Schoobale in Game
- 5:15Speaker 2: five against the Mariners and didn't win that game, not
- 5:17Speaker 2: because of anything Schooble did. They lost the game because
- 5:20Speaker 2: they couldn't hit right, and they went fifteen innings and
- 5:23Speaker 2: couldn't score a run, and he struck out like thirty
- 5:24Speaker 2: times in that game. I forget, I don't have my
- 5:26Speaker 2: score sheet in front of me. But they lost because
- 5:29Speaker 2: they couldn't hit. It wasn't because schoobl did any wrong.
- 5:31Speaker 2: You think he gained six innings with like one run
- 5:33Speaker 2: and left for the lead.
- 5:35Speaker 3: But hey, their hitters are supposed to get better. It's
- 5:37Speaker 3: a year. They're a year older.
- 5:39Speaker 1: They are a year older. Every time year older, you
- 5:41Speaker 1: should be better. Just general thought in life. Also, AJ's
- 5:44Speaker 1: still broadcasting that game. But yes, it was not Schooble's fault.
- 5:48Speaker 1: It was on game.
- 5:50Speaker 4: It was a game so many twisting turns in that game.
- 5:53Speaker 1: It's still one of my favorite broadcasts to you guys
- 5:55Speaker 1: were great. All right, let's charge.
- 5:57Speaker 3: Let's charge that.
- 6:00Speaker 1: We do have one little eddy bitty trade. The Angels
- 6:04Speaker 1: send Logan o'hapy and Chase still Seth over to the
- 6:07Speaker 1: Texas Rangers. Ohapi immediately gets optioned. He's had a tough year,
- 6:11Speaker 1: Sylph Seth has been pretty good in the bullpen. It's
- 6:14Speaker 1: got multiple years of control. Let me bring one interesting
- 6:17Speaker 1: part into the equation, because I think we all respect
- 6:19Speaker 1: him greatly for his overall baseball knowledge and for his
- 6:22Speaker 1: prospect knowledge. So JJ Cooper has been tweeting about this
- 6:27Speaker 1: trade confused. That's not a good sign when one of
- 6:30Speaker 1: the most renowned prospect experts in the sport is going
- 6:34Speaker 1: out on a limb to be like the one player
- 6:37Speaker 1: they got in return on hell Aridondo. And this is
- 6:40Speaker 1: no slide on him. I don't know him. Did not
- 6:42Speaker 1: rank in the Rangers top thirty according to Baseball America
- 6:45Speaker 1: at the time of the trade. Sometimes, when the trade happens,
- 6:47Speaker 1: this is JJ's quote, you check with sources to make
- 6:50Speaker 1: sure you don't miss something on a guy who should
- 6:52Speaker 1: have been ranked. We've checked. This does not appear to
- 6:55Speaker 1: be one of those times. A J Does that mean
- 6:58Speaker 1: Aridando might not be a big league contributor. No, but
- 7:03Speaker 1: generally the industry looks at prospects in at least a
- 7:06Speaker 1: close enough realm to be like, oh, I could see
- 7:08Speaker 1: somebody liking this guy when JJ goes out and on
- 7:11Speaker 1: limb like that. It's a little bit questionable given the
- 7:14Speaker 1: history of the Angels with Trades.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I just I mean, I don't know what this was.
- 7:19Speaker 2: This doesn't make sense from in the division. I mean, okay,
- 7:22Speaker 2: you want to get rid of Ohapi, fine, but the
- 7:25Speaker 2: Silsith one, he's having a pretty good year and he's young,
- 7:27Speaker 2: So I don't know. I don't understand unless John mozelok
- 7:30Speaker 2: is just saying, hey, we're gonna get rid of everybody
- 7:33Speaker 2: because we have stunk for so long and maybe finally
- 7:35Speaker 2: Artie Marino has allowed it. But I don't understand it
- 7:38Speaker 2: from that side of if you're going to give away
- 7:41Speaker 2: one of your guys that's been pretty decent for you,
- 7:43Speaker 2: I'm gonna look, I have to re look at Silsa's numbers,
- 7:45Speaker 2: but they're pretty good. It's not like this is a
- 7:47Speaker 2: walk piece, but uh, a few too many walks as
- 7:52Speaker 2: far as a guy.
- 7:53Speaker 3: But his other numbers are really good. Other numbers are
- 7:56Speaker 3: really good.
- 7:57Speaker 2: I mean he's got a two seven to two with
- 7:58Speaker 2: a you know, forty eight strikeouts, some thirty nine innings.
- 8:02Speaker 4: I mean that's pretty good. I mean the twenty two
- 8:03Speaker 4: walks you can live with. But I mean he's he's
- 8:06Speaker 4: pretty good to give away and he's got years of control.
- 8:09Speaker 4: That's the thing that gets.
- 8:10Speaker 3: Me, don't.
- 8:13Speaker 1: I don't.
- 8:13Speaker 3: I don't totally get it. And I'm not a big
- 8:16Speaker 3: like top thirty for the organization, like let's pump the
- 8:19Speaker 3: brakes like we're if we're doing top thirty for an organization,
- 8:22Speaker 3: we're ranking the nine hundred players in the minor leagues
- 8:27Speaker 3: like each team. You just it's okay if it's not.
- 8:32Speaker 3: But he's not even in the top thirty, the guy
- 8:34Speaker 3: they're getting back. It's weird because you look at bullpen
- 8:37Speaker 3: pieces and I would say still says probably that like
- 8:42Speaker 3: third tier down available, but still you would think you'd
- 8:45Speaker 3: get a little bit more. And it's been a tough,
- 8:48Speaker 3: tough road to hoe for Logan o hoppy and for
- 8:51Speaker 3: a guy that works really hard, you want to see him,
- 8:54Speaker 3: you want to see him bounce back. And it gives
- 8:56Speaker 3: the Ranges a little bit of depth because he got
- 9:00Speaker 3: Fioka's out and now they're going with Elias Diaz and.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Jensen and him. Jansen has been out too. They don't
- 9:08Speaker 2: know if he's come out correct.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Yeah, So the Rangers are going to do some things
- 9:14Speaker 1: as they should. They've had a nice little stretch lately.
- 9:16Speaker 1: They're involved. They're recognizing an opportunity here too. AJ So
- 9:22Speaker 1: they won the World Series in twenty twenty three, right,
- 9:24Speaker 1: twenty four and twenty five they couldn't hit. They still
- 9:26Speaker 1: did try at each trade deadline. They tried to push
- 9:29Speaker 1: a little bit this offseason with a acquisition like Mackenzie Gore. Right,
- 9:34Speaker 1: and still the team looks kind of similar to the
- 9:36Speaker 1: past couple of years, like they look okay, not great,
- 9:39Speaker 1: but they're still going to add and wait. The difference
- 9:41Speaker 1: this year is the division kind of sucks.
- 9:45Speaker 4: Kind of sucks. It doesn't suck, It doesn't kind of suck.
- 9:48Speaker 4: It just sucks.
- 9:49Speaker 2: We don't need to sugarcoat that the division sucks. And
- 9:53Speaker 2: what's amazing is the Astros. As much as we've talked
- 9:55Speaker 2: and said, oh the Astros stink this year, I think
- 9:57Speaker 2: they're a game out of first place or something crazy, right,
- 10:00Speaker 2: because the Mariners a team we all thought every I
- 10:03Speaker 2: mean pretty much everybody was a consensus across baseball. Ah,
- 10:06Speaker 2: the Mariners are going to be the best team in
- 10:08Speaker 2: that division, they're gonna win it going away. Well, they
- 10:10Speaker 2: have completely failed to capitalize on this division. And there's
- 10:14Speaker 2: where you look at. I mean, the Astros a five
- 10:16Speaker 2: hundred or one game out and the Mariners just that's
- 10:19Speaker 2: future for the team that we thought they would have.
- 10:21Speaker 4: Right So I think that's it.
- 10:23Speaker 2: The Rangers are saying, Hey, if we can get in
- 10:25Speaker 2: and we have a Valdi to Grom, we can figure
- 10:27Speaker 2: out Mackenzie Gore, get a couple of bullpen pieces, we
- 10:30Speaker 2: get Seeger Langford and young Back swinging it, we have
- 10:34Speaker 2: a chance to.
- 10:35Speaker 4: Maybe do some damage in the American League. Again, that sucks.
- 10:38Speaker 4: The American League is not very good.
- 10:41Speaker 3: They're starting to swing in a little bit better. They're
- 10:44Speaker 3: starting to swing in a little bit better at home.
- 10:46Speaker 3: They've had they've had a few games where they scored
- 10:49Speaker 3: a few more runs at home. And you know what,
- 10:53Speaker 3: See Why tries to make moves where he can. He
- 10:56Speaker 3: doesn't like he doesn't like that they're not running away
- 10:59Speaker 3: with the division, But he does not like missing out
- 11:02Speaker 3: in the playoffs by one game either, because he knows
- 11:06Speaker 3: anything can happen in the playoffs, which I think is
- 11:08Speaker 3: an advantage. I think some teams are like in the
- 11:10Speaker 3: playoffs are a crap shoot, and I think players go
- 11:15Speaker 3: anything can happen.
- 11:18Speaker 2: But by the way, you know, you said they're swinging
- 11:20Speaker 2: the bat better at home. Do something for me and
- 11:23Speaker 2: look at the numbers at Home Ballpark of the Rangers.
- 11:28Speaker 2: It started out as extreme hitting ballpark. Now it's actually
- 11:31Speaker 2: turned into I mean, sorry, extreme pitching ballpark. Now it's
- 11:34Speaker 2: actually turned into almost a hitters ballpark. It's weird over
- 11:37Speaker 2: the last couple of months. I don't know if they've
- 11:39Speaker 2: just started hitting better or what, but it is crazy
- 11:41Speaker 2: if you look at the numbers.
- 11:43Speaker 3: Hmmm, that's weird. You mean like a ball could travel
- 11:45Speaker 3: differently at the same exact ballpark that is controlled climate,
- 11:50Speaker 3: except you can control how balls travel.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Wait, are we talking white baseball or brown baseball? Which baseball?
- 11:59Speaker 3: Yellow? Yellow? Sorry, yellow has nothing to do with it.
- 12:05Speaker 3: Don't don't look. Don't look now. Humid door sometimes gets
- 12:08Speaker 3: turned off in Atlanta, and they have the two longest
- 12:11Speaker 3: home runs on the on the season in Atlanta. But
- 12:14Speaker 3: don't don't, don't worry about that. Doesn't happen, doesn't it
- 12:18Speaker 3: doesn't matter.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Just watch the game, don't watch anything else. No conspiracy
- 12:22Speaker 1: theories pease. Okay, let's show Alden Gonzalez tweets to finish
- 12:27Speaker 1: up what we think the Angels will do the rest
- 12:29Speaker 1: of the way here, Alden said. In recent weeks, rival
- 12:32Speaker 1: execus have said dealing with the Angels front office has
- 12:34Speaker 1: been completely different for one reason. They listen, they're open,
- 12:38Speaker 1: they talk about controllable players. I'm adding this part like
- 12:42Speaker 1: Jase Silsuth. Here's the next tweet from Alden. We'll know
- 12:45Speaker 1: far more about their direction based on what they do
- 12:47Speaker 1: with the likes of Redebt Meers, Jose Soriano, and Zach Netto.
- 12:51Speaker 1: But it seems Ardi moreno is letting John mozaylac Duty
- 12:54Speaker 1: thinks his best and that in itself would be a shift. Okay,
- 13:00Speaker 1: that's good. It's a good sign. This team never trades
- 13:03Speaker 1: to the guys at the right time. Aja, It's not
- 13:05Speaker 1: just making bad trades, which this one was questioned for
- 13:07Speaker 1: the prospect return. How about just making the trades at all,
- 13:10Speaker 1: versus holding your guys and never giving your chance self
- 13:13Speaker 1: a chance to actually reload. Like look at the Mets, right,
- 13:17Speaker 1: the Mets spend a ton of money. They freaking stink
- 13:19Speaker 1: this year they're going to trade like ten guys. Why
- 13:21Speaker 1: because they're not in it and you got to reload
- 13:23Speaker 1: and get prospects when you're not going to win this
- 13:25Speaker 1: year and it's very clear cut zero percent chance of
- 13:26Speaker 1: making the playoffs. Angels have not done that in the
- 13:29Speaker 1: past consistently. Maybe they do.
- 13:32Speaker 4: They always hold on to guys.
- 13:33Speaker 2: I mean we can start with Chowhy, right, but if
- 13:36Speaker 2: we say forever they should have traded Show, Hey, they
- 13:37Speaker 2: should have traded Trout, but obviously Trout can't be traded.
- 13:41Speaker 4: But they This has been the thing.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Arty Moreno has always said, oh, no, we're not going
- 13:44Speaker 2: to trade anybody because we're so close to being good,
- 13:47Speaker 2: except they haven't been good for ever.
- 13:51Speaker 3: Yeah, but this is like Hardy Moreno has been the
- 13:54Speaker 3: one that's been like, hey, no, no, no, no, we're not
- 13:56Speaker 3: going to but at least they're listening. Like the listening part.
- 14:00Speaker 3: If you've never listened before on players, how would you
- 14:04Speaker 3: ever know like where you're at, how would you ever
- 14:07Speaker 3: know if you're getting the right or if you're evaluating
- 14:11Speaker 3: your guys the correct way? To me, I think it's
- 14:14Speaker 3: something that that's a huge that's a huge shift. Maybe
- 14:18Speaker 3: now that it's all been tweeted that out maybe argument
- 14:20Speaker 3: Raindom was like, wait a minute, what's Moe doing? What's
- 14:23Speaker 3: John Mozeylog doing? Like does he know that we're still
- 14:26Speaker 3: trying to put butts in seats? And I don't look
- 14:29Speaker 3: ahead very well in the future.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Mo's got dirting his spikes. He can talk back in
- 14:36Speaker 1: a way that I'm sure perim Nation couldn't. That's a fact, right,
- 14:40Speaker 1: Perry's take first time on a job like that, Mos Like,
- 14:44Speaker 1: I've done this for a long time, I've won. He
- 14:46Speaker 1: can probably bite a little bit harder on a phone
- 14:48Speaker 1: call or is it mom Jolly? Either way, whatever it is,
- 14:53Speaker 1: I mean, that's huge. Now can talk back a little
- 14:56Speaker 1: bit differently, right, And they also have to. I mean,
- 14:58Speaker 1: if they want Mezaylak to be part of this long
- 15:00Speaker 1: term and think he's going to be helpful, then you're
- 15:03Speaker 1: on the clock on this side too. If you just
- 15:05Speaker 1: say they want to, I don't know what they do. Well,
- 15:08Speaker 1: they wanted him to be here, so I'm saying, aj,
- 15:10Speaker 1: if they do that, they're they're going to be nice
- 15:12Speaker 1: to him and say, all right, we're open to hearing
- 15:13Speaker 1: what you have to say.
- 15:15Speaker 4: Oh, I agree, but I just don't know that they want.
- 15:16Speaker 2: I mean I haven't heard that they you know, I mean,
- 15:18Speaker 2: Mozaillack might not want that either. So if you really
- 15:21Speaker 2: want him to be you have to be nice to
- 15:22Speaker 2: them in order for him not only if they want them,
- 15:25Speaker 2: but they have to he has to want to stay,
- 15:28Speaker 2: because when I talked to Mosaellic last time, he was like,
- 15:30Speaker 2: I don't even know if I want It's like I
- 15:31Speaker 2: want to take some time off, and then I look
- 15:33Speaker 2: up and whammy, he's with the Angels again.
- 15:36Speaker 1: His version of time off is not the same as
- 15:38Speaker 1: our version of time off.
- 15:40Speaker 3: That's time off, that's time off. Mike grizz I was like, yeah,
- 15:44Speaker 3: you know, I'm kind of ready to get back in
- 15:46Speaker 3: a little bit. Maybe it's too much time off for
- 15:48Speaker 3: different guys, but like Artie's gonna want guys that are
- 15:52Speaker 3: up in the up in the big leagues because he's
- 15:54Speaker 3: not gonna want to put the money into the minor
- 15:57Speaker 3: league system. Now, Mo allowed the Cardinals Minor LA system
- 16:00Speaker 3: to kind of get behind in the times, so maybe
- 16:03Speaker 3: Moe's pitch too. Artie was, I don't need to put
- 16:07Speaker 3: money into the minor league system because I know, like
- 16:10Speaker 3: I said, plenty of times on here, I know somebody
- 16:13Speaker 3: that already wanted to hire, and his reasoning was the
- 16:17Speaker 3: guy that he wanted to hire said, okay, I'll do it,
- 16:19Speaker 3: but we have to do this in the minor leagues
- 16:21Speaker 3: to truly make a winner, truly make an organization. And
- 16:26Speaker 3: Alarty said, no, thanks, you're not my guy.
- 16:31Speaker 1: We'll see what they do. A few days to go
- 16:33Speaker 1: until the trade deadline, Halo territory is all over what
- 16:37Speaker 1: the Angels will be doing and if there are significant
- 16:40Speaker 1: assets that they're going to actually trade away and your
- 16:43Speaker 1: team ends up with them, it's worth a listen to
- 16:46Speaker 1: get their thoughts on what someone like Read Detmers or
- 16:48Speaker 1: Jose Soriano or Zach Netto can bring to the table.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Subscribe to it wherever you get your pods on the
- 16:54Speaker 1: listening side and right here on YouTube, and we are
- 17:00Speaker 1: talking about see geek and games to keep an eye on.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Over the next few days, I'll kind of mix in
- 17:06Speaker 1: what's going on in the news in terms of guys
- 17:08Speaker 1: coming back, guys getting hurt Edwin Diaz was activated yesterday
- 17:13Speaker 1: and picked up a save, gave up a run, but
- 17:16Speaker 1: did the job. Snell's supposed to be back next week
- 17:18Speaker 1: if you want to target a start like that. If
- 17:20Speaker 1: you're a Dodger fan. Keith Hernandez was just activated, So
- 17:23Speaker 1: Dodgers have some activity going here right now. Aj if
- 17:26Speaker 1: you miss Kik dancing, or if you want to see
- 17:29Speaker 1: the trumpets in the ninth, now's the time to go
- 17:30Speaker 1: to Sea Gek and go get yourself a ticket for
- 17:33Speaker 1: a Dodger game.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Yeah, Dodgers are always a hot ticket, you know. It
- 17:38Speaker 2: just depends on what you're looking for. You look at
- 17:41Speaker 2: the list tonight, there's there's a lot of good day games.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Not a ton of good night games tonight, though, Scotti.
- 17:46Speaker 2: So you're gonna have to really look in. But you
- 17:50Speaker 2: mentioned the Dodgers, and for me, Brian Woo first rookie Sazaki,
- 17:53Speaker 2: Brian Woo need to step it up on the road.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Look at his road splits. They are awful. He has
- 17:59Speaker 2: the biggest split between home and road in the history
- 18:01Speaker 2: of Major League Baseball. It's like a four and a
- 18:04Speaker 2: half run er difference in home and road. Now they
- 18:07Speaker 2: can't figure it out. No one can figure it out.
- 18:09Speaker 2: This guy is too good to not be good on
- 18:10Speaker 2: the road.
- 18:11Speaker 4: So if you're a Dodger fan, you want to see
- 18:12Speaker 4: possibly some run score and you get to see Roki
- 18:15Speaker 4: Pitch go to La tonight.
- 18:17Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a good one. Robbie Ray probably making his
- 18:20Speaker 1: last start for the Giants tonight, he'll be in San Diego.
- 18:23Speaker 1: And then I don't usually vote for this, but actually
- 18:26Speaker 1: I would grab a ticket off Seakeeek in Sacramento to
- 18:29Speaker 1: watch Sonny Gray against his former team DA's. And I
- 18:31Speaker 1: just want to see what the Red Sox app cooking
- 18:33Speaker 1: right now, Kratz, because they've they've got the sauce suddenly.
- 18:37Speaker 3: You definitely, you definitely want to see the game. You
- 18:39Speaker 3: just don't want to see it in Sacramento, but you
- 18:41Speaker 3: can get it at Sea Geek. I'm waiting till tomorrow.
- 18:44Speaker 3: I'm gonna look ahead. The Yankees are in Chicago at
- 18:47Speaker 3: a day game. Like I know how much AJ loves
- 18:50Speaker 3: day games in Chicago. You get to see the Yankees
- 18:53Speaker 3: in Wrigley Field. That's the marquee. Maybe we don't have
- 18:57Speaker 3: anything today, but tomorrow that's where I'm going.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Yep. And for many people listening, yeah, that's one to
- 19:02Speaker 1: look at as at home.
- 19:05Speaker 2: And then I don't need to buy a ticket to
- 19:06Speaker 2: that one. I'll be there Saturday for free day.
- 19:09Speaker 4: It's close to the Yeah, it's a six o'clock game,
- 19:12Speaker 4: which is great. Get there tomorrow, have a nice dinner, get.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Up on Saturday, get a little walk in around the lake,
- 19:18Speaker 2: a little workout, and then go over and watch Yankees Cubs,
- 19:21Speaker 2: watch Adam I mean DJ after the game, and really
- 19:24Speaker 2: if you drag Ken there and then fly home Sunday,
- 19:27Speaker 2: pretty good weekend.
- 19:27Speaker 3: Love the north Side, I.
- 19:30Speaker 4: Do nothing says I love you like the Me and
- 19:32Speaker 4: the north Side.
- 19:33Speaker 1: That's a hot ticket lady. You know what to do
- 19:36Speaker 1: if you want ten percent off MLB tickets. If you're
- 19:38Speaker 1: hopping into Sea Geek for the first time, territory ten
- 19:41Speaker 1: get you that ten percent off code, or I should
- 19:45Speaker 1: say link in the description of the episode. We'll give
- 19:47Speaker 1: you that code automatically into your account so you can
- 19:50Speaker 1: use it later. By the way, real quick, Byron Buxton
- 19:53Speaker 1: back to the il too, just mixing in some news
- 19:56Speaker 1: as we got it that in the past whatever twelve
- 19:58Speaker 1: hours popped up there. It is right hip and pingement.
- 20:01Speaker 1: You know, he's he's kind of shut down right now.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Not great.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's always it always seems like with Byron,
- 20:10Speaker 2: as good as he is, It's like, when is he
- 20:12Speaker 2: going to get hurt again? And unfortunately it was a
- 20:15Speaker 2: couple of days ago. I think he was trying to
- 20:17Speaker 2: steal a base and hurt his hip and is.
- 20:20Speaker 4: Out now in the IL.
- 20:21Speaker 2: That really hurts the Twins because they're I mean, I
- 20:24Speaker 2: know we kind of make fun of them, but.
- 20:25Speaker 4: They're actually alive in this race just because the rest
- 20:27Speaker 4: of the America League is so bad.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Yeah, does this signal them selling a little bit? Not
- 20:34Speaker 3: like they're in it?
- 20:35Speaker 4: They're in it.
- 20:36Speaker 3: They're in it. I get it, I get it. That's
- 20:39Speaker 3: their Aaron Judge does it? Does it signal doesn't say Okay,
- 20:45Speaker 3: we're fine getting rid of Ryan Jeffers Or is it
- 20:47Speaker 3: saying no, now we can't get rid of anybody.
- 20:50Speaker 1: I think they were always getting rid of Brian Jeffers,
- 20:52Speaker 1: but that they're holding onto you know, anything else, even
- 20:57Speaker 1: anything else, I would say probably short term like it
- 21:00Speaker 1: just they think they can win without Jeffers. I mean,
- 21:04Speaker 1: he did miss a chunk of this season and they
- 21:05Speaker 1: were still hitting without him. But this is more of
- 21:10Speaker 1: a narrative with the city, like they just they can't
- 21:13Speaker 1: start trading the long term assets away right now or
- 21:16Speaker 1: even a shorter term asset like a Joe Ryan is interesting,
- 21:20Speaker 1: Like I know he's not pitching as well lately, but
- 21:23Speaker 1: it doesn't sound like he's going to get moved. All right,
- 21:34Speaker 1: let's do this ranking each team's trade deadline activity in
- 21:39Speaker 1: what it says about their ambitions in twenty twenty six
- 21:42Speaker 1: and beyond the athletic put out tiers. Let's run through
- 21:47Speaker 1: the tiers. Shall we? Tier one World Series or Bust.
- 21:51Speaker 1: It's the team that won back to back World Series titles.
- 21:55Speaker 1: I love when I start talking and Crats shakes his head.
- 21:57Speaker 1: I'm not even being sarcastic. Krats look disappointed. It's the Dodgers.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Why are you shaking your head?
- 22:04Speaker 3: Because I'm disappointed that there's really truly only one team
- 22:08Speaker 3: that's in this mode.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Do you feel like that though? Do you feel like
- 22:12Speaker 1: they're the only team that should be there? So let's
- 22:14Speaker 1: go to tier two here.
- 22:16Speaker 3: Where we have no no that I agree with it. Now,
- 22:19Speaker 3: I'm not saying I disagree with it. I'm saying, oh,
- 22:21Speaker 3: I disagree. Teams should be more in World Series or
- 22:26Speaker 3: Bust mode. There should be more like this is your chance.
- 22:30Speaker 3: This is why some teams don't ever win because they're
- 22:33Speaker 3: not truly in the World Series or bust mode. The
- 22:37Speaker 3: Dodgers have been built for the last ten years to
- 22:39Speaker 3: be in World Series or bust. The Yankees used to
- 22:42Speaker 3: be a team that were World Series or busts, or
- 22:44Speaker 3: they're just not pleased with anything that's the World Series.
- 22:48Speaker 3: I think more teams should be But we can continue.
- 22:51Speaker 1: In the article, they said they would have put the
- 22:53Speaker 1: Yankees in Tier one if they had more clarity on
- 22:56Speaker 1: Aaron Judge's status, but they instead put them in Tier two.
- 23:01Speaker 1: The Brewers are in Tier two, The Rays are in
- 23:04Speaker 1: Tier two. The Braves are in Tier two. By the way,
- 23:08Speaker 1: for the Braves, it's been coming out. It looks like
- 23:10Speaker 1: Strider might not pitch the rest of the year. Smith
- 23:12Speaker 1: Shober just came back. But man, that's a tough one
- 23:16Speaker 1: for Atlanta. They're gonna have to do some work. I
- 23:18Speaker 1: know they've got guys coming back here, but try and
- 23:20Speaker 1: get a big boy, get a horse. I digress, aj,
- 23:25Speaker 1: I mean this is still a good list containing sustainable.
- 23:28Speaker 4: Yeah, but contending sustainably. I don't care. The Brewers and
- 23:32Speaker 4: the Rays. Have they ever won a World Series?
- 23:35Speaker 1: God?
- 23:37Speaker 4: No, no, you know what it should be World Series
- 23:39Speaker 4: or bust.
- 23:40Speaker 2: This is your chance. You have mis you hopefully get
- 23:42Speaker 2: Harrison back. You have your team that can play a
- 23:45Speaker 2: little bit different style of baseball. You got your asses
- 23:48Speaker 2: beat by the Dodgers last year in the playoffs, you
- 23:50Speaker 2: got swept. You're all happy we finally won a playoff series,
- 23:53Speaker 2: first time since twenty eighteen. Nobody cares. You gotta win
- 23:56Speaker 2: a World Series. And for the Rays, yes they've been
- 23:59Speaker 2: to the World Series. Yes you've had chances, they.
- 24:01Speaker 4: Haven't won one.
- 24:02Speaker 2: New ownership, hopefully a new stadium. You know what, it'll
- 24:05Speaker 2: get a new stadium approved Tampa Bay, a World Series championship.
- 24:09Speaker 2: So go out and do whatever you have to do
- 24:10Speaker 2: to make it happen. I'm sorry, I hate this. Oh
- 24:13Speaker 2: we want to be sustainable. How about you win a
- 24:15Speaker 2: World Series first, and then you become sustainable. And oh yeah,
- 24:18Speaker 2: by the way, the Yankees having one since twenty nineteen
- 24:23Speaker 2: or sorry, excuse me, two thousand and nine, that's a
- 24:25Speaker 2: long time in Yankee Land. That's almost getting to the
- 24:28Speaker 2: point of unacceptable. So sustainable, Go win a World Series,
- 24:31Speaker 2: get Aaron Judges World Series, right, So get to that
- 24:35Speaker 2: point and then you can be sustainable. It Braves just
- 24:37Speaker 2: one not that long ago. So there you got a
- 24:39Speaker 2: little bit more leash. These other teams haven't won some
- 24:41Speaker 2: of them ever.
- 24:43Speaker 3: Show a team that pushed all Show me a team
- 24:46Speaker 3: that pushed all in, and show me the next five years.
- 24:49Speaker 3: We're so we're so ingrained to be like, you know what,
- 24:53Speaker 3: there's a five year rebuild and then it's like, oh,
- 24:57Speaker 3: we're so afraid of the reverse. You push all in,
- 25:01Speaker 3: and then it's going to be another five year rebuild.
- 25:03Speaker 3: No it's not. You choose to make it a five
- 25:06Speaker 3: year rebuild. Show me what's going to happen. Show me
- 25:09Speaker 3: what happened after two thousand and nine because of the
- 25:11Speaker 3: CC Sabbathia trade. Michael Brantley was going to keep the
- 25:15Speaker 3: Brewers afloat in two thousand and nine, ten eleven, twelve,
- 25:19Speaker 3: so they chose to get rid of guys.
- 25:22Speaker 1: He was throwing.
- 25:25Speaker 3: Is what he was.
- 25:27Speaker 1: The throw in too. He wasn't even the main peak like.
- 25:29Speaker 4: He was one that was Lamora. I played against him,
- 25:34Speaker 4: I played against him.
- 25:36Speaker 3: Jason Donald. No, Jason Donald wasn't on that he was.
- 25:39Speaker 1: They were worried about trading Laporta, and they did it,
- 25:41Speaker 1: and how did it go Laporta.
- 25:44Speaker 4: Was the one.
- 25:45Speaker 3: So that's what I mean when people bring this up.
- 25:48Speaker 3: Because I just spent a weekend Thursday, Friday, Saturday in Milwaukee.
- 25:52Speaker 3: Everybody from the people working for the Brewers to people
- 25:58Speaker 3: working at the air to fans in the stadium. What
- 26:04Speaker 3: do I kept asking, what do you think the Brewers need?
- 26:07Speaker 3: And they're like, I don't know. I just want a
- 26:10Speaker 3: World Series. I want them to want the World Series
- 26:13Speaker 3: as badly as we do. And I think it is
- 26:15Speaker 3: it's time. They've experienced the playoffs, Nido gang. That community's
- 26:21Speaker 3: gonna come out and support this baseball team no matter
- 26:24Speaker 3: what happens. They've built this sustainability. It's time to push
- 26:30Speaker 3: and to be remembered forever that eighty two team that
- 26:33Speaker 3: went to the World Series, like they're remembered forever. Shoot,
- 26:38Speaker 3: I've played for four months for a team twenty five
- 26:43Speaker 3: year reunion. They invited me back like, and we got
- 26:46Speaker 3: close to making it to the World Series. If you
- 26:48Speaker 3: win a World Series, it will change. It will change
- 26:52Speaker 3: the landscape of Brewers fandom, and I think the franchise.
- 26:56Speaker 1: I think this part for clarity is important. You know,
- 27:00Speaker 1: some fans have been trained to look at their teams
- 27:03Speaker 1: like a portfolio, and the Brewers are a perfect case
- 27:07Speaker 1: of a team that's done a brilliant job of building
- 27:11Speaker 1: a great baseball team in the regular season, but also
- 27:13Speaker 1: one of the best farm systems in the sport. If
- 27:16Speaker 1: you pluck a few away from their top fifteen, they're
- 27:18Speaker 1: going to be okay. Also, save your comment about Jesus Made.
- 27:24Speaker 1: It does not require a Jesus Made to get even
- 27:28Speaker 1: a Terek schoobl That is a fact. You can get
- 27:30Speaker 1: past Hazeus Made. They're not trading him. That's their best prospect.
- 27:33Speaker 1: He's in some world's the number one prospect in the
- 27:37Speaker 1: sport right now. You don't need to do that, So
- 27:38Speaker 1: save that comment saying we're not trading moday. I'm good.
- 27:41Speaker 1: I'm with you. But there's plenty left in the cupboard
- 27:44Speaker 1: for them to trade to pull this off. And if anything,
- 27:46Speaker 1: there's a little bit of a logjam there, which is
- 27:48Speaker 1: a great problem. It's the perfect time to make this trade.
- 27:51Speaker 1: AJ smashed the Orioles for a few years for holding, holding, holding,
- 27:55Speaker 1: and then they kind of missed the window. And I
- 27:58Speaker 1: know you have two crats, so don't do that. I
- 28:00Speaker 1: think they will do more. I think they learned from
- 28:02Speaker 1: last year, like, oh wow, we ended up with the
- 28:04Speaker 1: best record in baseball. We knew we were going to
- 28:06Speaker 1: end up well, we didn't realize we were going to
- 28:08Speaker 1: end up that well. And if you look back, they
- 28:10Speaker 1: did essentially nothing at the deadline. All right, So let's
- 28:12Speaker 1: get to the tier three. Can we make noise in October?
- 28:16Speaker 1: That includes the Phillies, the Cubs, the Red Sox, the Guardians,
- 28:20Speaker 1: and the Mariners. They specifically point out a team like
- 28:22Speaker 1: the Phillies for the age crats of some of their
- 28:26Speaker 1: players and how there's more sense of urgency and we've
- 28:29Speaker 1: talked about that for years and there should be more
- 28:32Speaker 1: of a sense of urgency for a team like that.
- 28:33Speaker 1: They actually pointed out the Cubs for their age too
- 28:36Speaker 1: with some of their players. I'm not as worried about
- 28:40Speaker 1: the Cubs, you know, looking at players getting past their
- 28:43Speaker 1: prime yet. But then they said for Cleveland it's always
- 28:47Speaker 1: the same story. They need offense, and they said, yes,
- 28:49Speaker 1: the Mariners in Red Sox. If you look at those
- 28:52Speaker 1: two teams before the season started and you fell asleep
- 28:54Speaker 1: and then you wake up right now, you'd be like,
- 28:56Speaker 1: oh man, that's not great. But they still think that
- 29:00Speaker 1: those two teams can rise through the noise, and in
- 29:02Speaker 1: order to do that they need to supplement their roster.
- 29:06Speaker 4: Yeah, Phillies, yes, Phillies. It should be World Series or Bus.
- 29:09Speaker 2: Sorry, sorry crats, it should be it should be I
- 29:13Speaker 2: mean yes. The Red Sox every year used to be
- 29:16Speaker 2: World Series or Bus until they won all those World Series.
- 29:18Speaker 2: Now it's like, oh, well, we need to spend money
- 29:20Speaker 2: in Liverpool and the soccer team, and.
- 29:22Speaker 4: We need to have the lebron James make money over
- 29:26Speaker 4: and wherever he's.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Playing in Philadelphia. Right, The Guardians are not going to
- 29:29Speaker 2: do it. We all know that the Mariners are the
- 29:31Speaker 2: interesting one. The ownership will probably won't let Jerry Depoto
- 29:33Speaker 2: do it. The Cubs have all the resources in the world.
- 29:35Speaker 2: It should be World Series or Bus for them every year.
- 29:38Speaker 2: I don't know, can we make noise in October?
- 29:40Speaker 4: That's what's funny.
- 29:41Speaker 2: The Cubs, because they won in twenty sixteen, ten years ago,
- 29:44Speaker 2: are like, oh, we won ten years ago. We have
- 29:45Speaker 2: ninety eight years until we have to worry about winning
- 29:47Speaker 2: or whatever it is, right, because we just won ten
- 29:49Speaker 2: years ago. But they should be World Series or Bus
- 29:52Speaker 2: because they have the resources. They are the Chicago Cubs.
- 29:55Speaker 2: They have Wrigley they have wrigley Ville, they have all
- 29:58Speaker 2: the stuff that comes with it.
- 29:59Speaker 4: They have the hotel the other teams stay in, so
- 30:01Speaker 4: other teams pay.
- 30:02Speaker 2: Them to stay in a hotel that they own, right,
- 30:05Speaker 2: So I mean where we hung up here, Cubs, Like
- 30:08Speaker 2: that's the thing. Like there are some teams on this
- 30:09Speaker 2: list that And by the way, I said that about
- 30:12Speaker 2: the Rays and the Brewers. You know what those teams
- 30:13Speaker 2: have over the Mariners. They've been to a World Series.
- 30:17Speaker 2: The Mirrors have never even been to a World Series.
- 30:20Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 30:21Speaker 3: But it's not bust. It's not it's it's not World
- 30:24Speaker 3: Series or bust. Don't worry about it. Nope, We're gonna
- 30:27Speaker 3: definitely create because we have Kate Anderson comany and we're
- 30:29Speaker 3: going to create five more starting pitchers and not add
- 30:34Speaker 3: to this team. I think the Mariners of people on
- 30:36Speaker 3: this list, I think the Mariners have done. They did,
- 30:39Speaker 3: they did their heavy lifting in the offseason. Now it's
- 30:42Speaker 3: time for the players to go. I think the Red
- 30:43Speaker 3: Sox we're like, you know what, we think pitching is
- 30:46Speaker 3: gonna get the job done. I think the Cubs have
- 30:48Speaker 3: built their team on defense. I think the Phillies are
- 30:51Speaker 3: the one on this list. I think it's a clear
- 30:53Speaker 3: delineation that it is now. The Red Sox will be around,
- 30:58Speaker 3: the Guardians will always can you to surprise people and
- 31:01Speaker 3: make a run because they have Jose Ramirez, and I
- 31:05Speaker 3: think the Mariners do create pitching. But the Phillies, it's now.
- 31:08Speaker 3: The Phillies is now now. Could they win it again
- 31:11Speaker 3: next year? Absolutely? Are they gonna need to make an adjustment? Absolutely,
- 31:16Speaker 3: I don't. You don't create the worst ops plus from
- 31:23Speaker 3: an outfield corps and expect, hey, you know what we're
- 31:26Speaker 3: gonna We're gonna just we're gonna be fine. You don't
- 31:28Speaker 3: have two guys with over an eight hundred ops going
- 31:33Speaker 3: into the month of August and say, eh, we're fine.
- 31:37Speaker 3: There has to be a big change, and I have.
- 31:39Speaker 3: I'm really surprised that the hitting coach is still around
- 31:44Speaker 3: because it's the same things over and over again. And
- 31:47Speaker 3: I don't know that the answer in the lineup is
- 31:51Speaker 3: out there at the trade deadline because they don't have
- 31:53Speaker 3: enough pieces to add to it. So they're very intriguing
- 31:57Speaker 3: team in that sense.
- 31:59Speaker 1: Yeah, they're going to do things, but it's not easy
- 32:01Speaker 1: right now to find the offense that you're looking for.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Some years it is some years are like, oh that
- 32:05Speaker 1: player went for that. It's it seems a little bit
- 32:07Speaker 1: more difficult, especially righty hitting. Some teams that are looking
- 32:10Speaker 1: for a right handed bat are going to have to
- 32:12Speaker 1: just say, you know what, it's got to be a
- 32:14Speaker 1: left handed bat. We'll have a little less balance in
- 32:16Speaker 1: the lineup. But there's just not enough out there. There
- 32:18Speaker 1: just is not enough there right now in terms of
- 32:20Speaker 1: right handed pop.
- 32:22Speaker 3: That's a hoping and you're hoping your hope. You're gonna
- 32:25Speaker 3: they're gonna bring somebody in for the Phillies because they
- 32:28Speaker 3: don't have enough in the minor league system. You're going
- 32:32Speaker 3: to hope that person does well. You bring in a
- 32:34Speaker 3: Dalton Varshow, I hope he does well like he had.
- 32:38Speaker 3: He had some really good spurts last year. He hasn't
- 32:40Speaker 3: done well this year. Maybe water levels out, you know.
- 32:43Speaker 3: I think that's the positive spin they'll put on it.
- 32:46Speaker 3: But again, it's another lefty. He punches out a little bit,
- 32:49Speaker 3: he runs the bases better than some of the guys.
- 32:51Speaker 3: So there's there's positives, but it's not this Byron Buxton,
- 32:55Speaker 3: Mike Trout type of move.
- 32:58Speaker 1: Yeah. One thing I want to be clear about this
- 33:00Speaker 1: isn't like a call, oh, this team should spend money.
- 33:02Speaker 1: It's just you should do things at the trade deadline
- 33:05Speaker 1: that are painful in order to improve your team. That's
- 33:08Speaker 1: what it is. You sure you're going to take on
- 33:10Speaker 1: the money of a player coming through, but it's the
- 33:12Speaker 1: last two months of their salary. It's more about actually
- 33:15Speaker 1: trading away prospects and not prospect hugging. And also it's
- 33:18Speaker 1: there's a delineation with who you value as your top
- 33:21Speaker 1: guys and then not being concerned about every single prospect, right, Like, hey,
- 33:26Speaker 1: these are the two or three we have circled, but
- 33:28Speaker 1: the team can choose from these other seven or eight
- 33:30Speaker 1: in our top ten that you can't.
- 33:34Speaker 2: I looked at it more from the fans point of view.
- 33:36Speaker 2: What are the fans? How are the fans reacting to this?
- 33:39Speaker 2: Like this is this is you know the athletics, what
- 33:43Speaker 2: there says about their ambitions.
- 33:44Speaker 4: But let's talk I'm talking about the fans. What the
- 33:46Speaker 4: fans think? Right?
- 33:47Speaker 2: These are the teams that we talked about that said
- 33:49Speaker 2: should be all in. Are teams that have fans that
- 33:52Speaker 2: want to win their rabbit.
- 33:53Speaker 4: I mean Listen. You say what you want about.
- 33:55Speaker 2: The Rays in their fan base, but they have a
- 33:58Speaker 2: good fan base. It's like Oakland's old base. They have
- 34:01Speaker 2: ten to fifteen thousand that are pretty solid. Okay, But
- 34:04Speaker 2: then you get to Cleveland, who we know comes out
- 34:06Speaker 2: in the postseason. Right, you get to Seattle they pack
- 34:08Speaker 2: it every year, right, I mean these are teams the
- 34:11Speaker 2: Brewers they pack every game. So these are fan bases
- 34:14Speaker 2: that want and need to win. And then we can
- 34:16Speaker 2: obviously bring up the Yankees. Yankees fans are so used
- 34:19Speaker 2: to winning. It's almost been twenty years since they won
- 34:21Speaker 2: that we're talking, you know, the eighties the for the Yankees,
- 34:25Speaker 2: right when they didn't win for all those years.
- 34:27Speaker 4: We're back in the middle of it again.
- 34:30Speaker 1: What about Tier four? The title is is this really
- 34:34Speaker 1: worth it? And two of the teams they pointed out
- 34:37Speaker 1: in the article were the Twins and the Pirates, And
- 34:41Speaker 1: my answer to the Pirates, a Jay is a resounding yes,
- 34:45Speaker 1: this is worth it. If you make it to the postseason,
- 34:47Speaker 1: it's a win. Agrees.
- 34:51Speaker 2: Yes, I mean the Rangers just won, so, I mean
- 34:54Speaker 2: they're a little bit different. But Padres again never won
- 34:57Speaker 2: a World Series, right, Astros they've won. Fine, they can
- 35:00Speaker 2: do without. The Tigers have it won since eighty four?
- 35:03Speaker 4: Right? The Blue Jays, they're not.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Doing anything this year. The Dvacs, I don't know if
- 35:07Speaker 2: they have enough to win the World Series. But a
- 35:09Speaker 2: team like the Pirates, are you kidding me?
- 35:12Speaker 1: Yes?
- 35:12Speaker 2: They haven't been to the postseason in so long, and
- 35:14Speaker 2: all we heard about is how miserable it is there. Well,
- 35:17Speaker 2: they have a chance to get in.
- 35:18Speaker 4: You go for it. I'm sorry, you go for it.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:22Speaker 3: I think on this list, I think they're the one
- 35:24Speaker 3: team that has the least but most glaring hole to fill.
- 35:29Speaker 3: I think if you face you talk about getting to
- 35:31Speaker 3: the postseason, awesome story. Great, if the Pirates make it,
- 35:35Speaker 3: they'll show up in all black. But you start Game
- 35:39Speaker 3: one with Paul Skeins, Braxton, Ashgraft, Mitch Keller, Okay, you're set.
- 35:43Speaker 3: They improve this offense. Whether people believed it was gonna
- 35:47Speaker 3: happen or not, this offense is the real deal. Brian
- 35:50Speaker 3: Reynolds doesn't have to carry the load as Merlin Valdez
- 35:55Speaker 3: is hitting dangers. He is like a thousand ops right now.
- 36:00Speaker 3: They have Brandon Lao, Ryan o'hearne. They have pieces in
- 36:03Speaker 3: that lineup. To me, this is when they push push,
- 36:07Speaker 3: push push with somebody to be able to anchor two
- 36:13Speaker 3: somebody's maybe even a third somebody to anchor that bullpen.
- 36:17Speaker 1: Yeah, we've said this since our show existed. Sometimes the
- 36:21Speaker 1: teams like, ah, we're good, but we're one year away,
- 36:25Speaker 1: and then that next year two of your starters go
- 36:28Speaker 1: down and then you're.
- 36:28Speaker 3: Like Orioles the first year, the Aadlie Rutchman and the
- 36:35Speaker 3: and the Pirates. This could happen for the Pirates. The
- 36:37Speaker 3: reason it could happen for the Pirates is because what
- 36:40Speaker 3: is the cheapest out of all those three categories, the
- 36:44Speaker 3: cheapest player to acquire. I mean even if a guys
- 36:48Speaker 3: making four million dollars, you're paying for a third of
- 36:52Speaker 3: the four million dollars. You know what. We can handle this.
- 36:55Speaker 3: So this is where they need to strike. They need
- 36:58Speaker 3: to strike and they need to get two or three
- 37:01Speaker 3: pieces to put in that bullpen.
- 37:03Speaker 1: Uh, the last tier we should show. The other ones
- 37:06Speaker 1: are not in it. So the last tier we should
- 37:08Speaker 1: show is tier five where this one might hurt Jay
- 37:14Speaker 1: a little bit, but it's really fun. It's talking about
- 37:17Speaker 1: how you're in it. But maybe wouldn't mind dropping some
- 37:22Speaker 1: games to make it an easier decision, right, Like Cardinals
- 37:25Speaker 1: have dropped off a little bit. Nuts are still pretty
- 37:28Speaker 1: in the mix. I mean, these teams are all in
- 37:30Speaker 1: the mix like they are.
- 37:31Speaker 4: That's aren't going for it. We can eliminate them.
- 37:34Speaker 2: We know the Marlins aren't going to do anything, like
- 37:35Speaker 2: why are they even on this list? They're in the
- 37:38Speaker 2: We don't want to pay anybody.
- 37:39Speaker 4: A dollar range. Right, So the Heat we know dain
- 37:42Speaker 4: in the one. The one is twenty. The White Sox.
- 37:45Speaker 2: All I've heard is the White Sox are going to
- 37:47Speaker 2: do this and do that. Jim Boden said it yesterday.
- 37:50Speaker 2: Bob Nightingale doesn't believe it, but I believe they're going
- 37:52Speaker 2: to do something. It might be smaller moves, but they
- 37:55Speaker 2: can win this division. It's a winnable division. And for
- 37:58Speaker 2: a team that lost one hundred games in a row,
- 38:00Speaker 2: I'm not saying World Series or bust, but they should
- 38:02Speaker 2: be in the Is it worth it or not? One
- 38:04Speaker 2: million percent? It's worth it because your fan base has
- 38:06Speaker 2: been showing out. Check out the numbers of the fans
- 38:09Speaker 2: that have been at the Yankees game, and since they've
- 38:11Speaker 2: been in first place, the people of Chicago are getting
- 38:14Speaker 2: behind this team. They like this team, they think this
- 38:16Speaker 2: team is fun to watch. Add to it and make
- 38:19Speaker 2: it better and take your shot.
- 38:21Speaker 1: And it's the we know where your early category. By
- 38:24Speaker 1: the way, for Tier five And the case which they
- 38:27Speaker 1: defended in this article is that the White Sox should
- 38:30Speaker 1: be in Tier four, and I agree. They said they
- 38:33Speaker 1: won't put them in until they show that they actually
- 38:35Speaker 1: will act like a contender at a trade deadline to me.
- 38:40Speaker 1: But to me, aren't the White Sox in the same
- 38:43Speaker 1: range as the Pirates where they're both around the same
- 38:46Speaker 1: chance of making the playoffs and should be adding so
- 38:49Speaker 1: that they can at least get themselves back into the
- 38:52Speaker 1: mix there? Or you think the Pirates are kind of
- 38:54Speaker 1: like does a team like that belong one tier up?
- 38:56Speaker 1: Or don't they belong in a similar tier? I know
- 38:58Speaker 1: it's been much longer since the Pirates make the playoffs, but.
- 39:01Speaker 2: You to me, yes, I understand what you're saying, But
- 39:04Speaker 2: to me, the differences The Pirates are in a tougher
- 39:08Speaker 2: national league, okay, and you got to face the Dodgers,
- 39:11Speaker 2: the Phillies, the Braves, the Brewers, the Cubs.
- 39:14Speaker 4: Okay, fine, Now can you win the World Series.
- 39:16Speaker 2: If you run skiens in Ashcraft and Keller and Bubba
- 39:20Speaker 2: Chandler figures out and you get some bullpen help. I
- 39:22Speaker 2: don't know, but you have a pretty good chance. The
- 39:23Speaker 2: thing about the White Sox is the American League is down.
- 39:26Speaker 2: We keep saying it over and over again. You get
- 39:28Speaker 2: in and listen. Sean Burke has been really good. Davis
- 39:30Speaker 2: Martin will figure it out.
- 39:31Speaker 4: Right.
- 39:32Speaker 2: They have some offense in Marcami and Antonaci and both
- 39:36Speaker 2: Montgomery boys.
- 39:37Speaker 4: They need to find a catcher.
- 39:38Speaker 2: That's the thing for me. If Kyle Tie, we don't
- 39:40Speaker 2: know when he's coming back. Edgar Kiro not the answer.
- 39:43Speaker 2: Tony Romo, I know his name's not Tony Romo. Drew
- 39:45Speaker 2: Romo not the answer right as a long term everyday guy.
- 39:49Speaker 4: What's a hut?
- 39:51Speaker 1: Tony Roma was in some trouble.
- 39:53Speaker 4: Yeah, he's fine, that'll be fine. I'll figure.
- 39:55Speaker 2: I mean, I love when he said in my in
- 39:56Speaker 2: trouble and they get the officer said turn around and
- 39:59Speaker 2: he's like, oops, I guess, which was pretty funny.
- 40:01Speaker 4: Here he goes, did I pass? But we don't need
- 40:03Speaker 4: to get into that. Yeah, but I mean I'm sorry, Like,
- 40:07Speaker 4: and you need a starting you need a starting pitcher.
- 40:10Speaker 2: I think they've kind of figured out the back end
- 40:11Speaker 2: the White Sox with Taylor and some of the other guys.
- 40:14Speaker 2: They run out and god, Sir, Anthony Domingo's out of
- 40:16Speaker 2: the ninth inning rule. But you need another starter in
- 40:19Speaker 2: a catcher. Those are the two biggest needs for me
- 40:21Speaker 2: for the White Sox. Now, what that move is Foster Griffin,
- 40:24Speaker 2: That would be a good move for the White Sox,
- 40:25Speaker 2: someone like that. And as far as catcher goes, I
- 40:30Speaker 2: don't know because I just don't know what catcher will
- 40:32Speaker 2: be traded. I mean, Hunter Goodman would be nice, but
- 40:34Speaker 2: then you hurt Kyle Teele's value, right, So it's got
- 40:38Speaker 2: to be a right handed hitting I don't want to
- 40:42Speaker 2: say a backup, but a backup that could play every day.
- 40:45Speaker 3: Tyler Stevenson. Tyler Stevenson would be good, but a j
- 40:49Speaker 3: What you just said, the American League is bad. I
- 40:54Speaker 3: think we all can agree with that. So does that
- 40:58Speaker 3: bode to the point of why they're in the tea
- 41:00Speaker 3: or that they're.
- 41:00Speaker 2: In Yes, well, I think because I think people look
- 41:06Speaker 2: at the division and the league that they're in and say,
- 41:08Speaker 2: oh wow, you can actually maybe make some noise this
- 41:10Speaker 2: year or White Sox, and they have made noise, so
- 41:13Speaker 2: they deserve credit for that. But I always listen. It's
- 41:16Speaker 2: what it's like what we talked about Jim Duke. As
- 41:18Speaker 2: a former player, you always want the team in the
- 41:21Speaker 2: team that you root for or the team that you're
- 41:23Speaker 2: on to do something to help your team take that
- 41:26Speaker 2: next step. And I think that's what White Sox fans
- 41:28Speaker 2: are looking for because they want to see the White
- 41:31Speaker 2: Sox take the next step because they've dealt with the
- 41:33Speaker 2: crap for the last three years of losing one hundred
- 41:36Speaker 2: games and the promise of we have this guy coming,
- 41:38Speaker 2: this guy coming, Well, guess what if it's a year early,
- 41:41Speaker 2: so what it's still there for the taking if you
- 41:43Speaker 2: want it.
- 41:46Speaker 1: Yeah, you got to embrace the year early thing. Sometimes
- 41:49Speaker 1: the window. This is the consistency with the window. It
- 41:53Speaker 1: almost always you're winning. Window starts earlier than you expected
- 41:57Speaker 1: and ends earlier than you expect it.
- 42:00Speaker 4: But you have to be ready to pounce. You have
- 42:02Speaker 4: to be ready to pounce when that.
- 42:04Speaker 2: I look at the Cubs when they won, right, and
- 42:06Speaker 2: as much as we all know that I love the Cubs,
- 42:08Speaker 2: but I'll give them credit. I'll give THEO in that
- 42:10Speaker 2: front office credit. When it came time, they were ready.
- 42:13Speaker 2: They already had a deal, they already had lesser there, right,
- 42:16Speaker 2: they already had Lackey there. Twenty fifteen boom, and then
- 42:18Speaker 2: twenty sixteen came and it was like, oh, we caught
- 42:20Speaker 2: lightning in a bottle.
- 42:21Speaker 4: We can win this whole thing. And then they were
- 42:23Speaker 4: like expected to.
- 42:24Speaker 2: Have this long, long window of winning and they never
- 42:26Speaker 2: came close again.
- 42:27Speaker 4: So if you have that chance, you got to take it.
- 42:30Speaker 1: There is a rhetoric in front offices about sustainable winning
- 42:34Speaker 1: product that actually is publicly stated frequently these days in
- 42:37Speaker 1: the off season. And I don't know, if I'm a fan,
- 42:40Speaker 1: I'm like, can you just say I want to win
- 42:42Speaker 1: a World Series title? Like you don't have to say
- 42:44Speaker 1: I want to win a World Series but then we
- 42:46Speaker 1: might suck for five years, but every fan base would
- 42:49Speaker 1: take that. So the sustainable winning product, now, I'm good
- 42:54Speaker 1: if it's your year. And yes, I know we've picked
- 42:56Speaker 1: on it, pick the Brewers, and yes you can do both.
- 43:00Speaker 1: And actually, you know, you know who's done this pretty
- 43:02Speaker 1: well in terms of the trades. Aj Preler wheels and deals,
- 43:06Speaker 1: and sometimes he's traded away some big guys, and then
- 43:09Speaker 1: he does a nice job of replenishing, and I know
- 43:11Speaker 1: it's getting a little barren, but he bets on himself
- 43:14Speaker 1: to replenish again, and that's how he's able to make
- 43:17Speaker 1: these big trades. Right, Mason Miller is not the most
- 43:19Speaker 1: expensive guy. He was the most expensive guy prospect wise
- 43:23Speaker 1: last year, giving up someone like Leo DeVries if he
- 43:25Speaker 1: turns into a star. Okay, but you got the best
- 43:27Speaker 1: closer in baseball like.
- 43:29Speaker 3: Byes come from. He came from the minor league system,
- 43:33Speaker 3: which which just returns and regard international prospects.
- 43:39Speaker 1: Yes, exactly, So I love it. I'm with you. So
- 43:43Speaker 1: it's fun playing the Tears. And of course you know
- 43:45Speaker 1: we're going to be pushy, but I think fans need
- 43:48Speaker 1: to make sure that they feel pushy about a team
- 43:50Speaker 1: that is in contention. A few little notes on our
- 44:04Speaker 1: way out. I know, AJ you've been watching that Yankees
- 44:07Speaker 1: White Sox series. Defensively, the Yankees had a little problem yesterday.
- 44:12Speaker 4: Okay.
- 44:12Speaker 2: As a former catcher, I'm just gonna say this, and
- 44:14Speaker 2: I know things happened fast than the big Lenkus cratch
- 44:17Speaker 2: with two outs. And I tell my son this all
- 44:19Speaker 2: the time. With two outs, if you're going to backpick
- 44:22Speaker 2: a guy unless you're absolutely here's the thing, unless your
- 44:25Speaker 2: kitcher's in an awful jam. Right, crats like an awful jam.
- 44:29Speaker 2: It's an inning, they're thirty pitches in and the bases
- 44:31Speaker 2: are loaded. You can steal them out and get him
- 44:33Speaker 2: out of the inning quickly make that throw. Other than that,
- 44:37Speaker 2: there is no situation where I'm throwing the ball to
- 44:39Speaker 2: try to pick a guy off, especially at third base
- 44:42Speaker 2: when he's the tying run. They have to get a
- 44:44Speaker 2: hit or and earn that run. You cannot just I
- 44:49Speaker 2: watched this live and I literally was like, I do
- 44:52Speaker 2: not know what just happened. I don't know why he
- 44:54Speaker 2: threw the ball.
- 44:55Speaker 4: I know McMahon broke.
- 44:55Speaker 2: I don't know why McMahon broke if he was speaking,
- 44:58Speaker 2: But that throw was just completely That whole play was
- 45:01Speaker 2: a disaster.
- 45:02Speaker 4: It cost him a game.
- 45:02Speaker 2: I was happy because I'm a Wait Tuck fan, But wow,
- 45:05Speaker 2: I cannot believe that they made that throat. If you
- 45:07Speaker 2: haven't seen it, you're just gonna have to google it.
- 45:09Speaker 2: The catcher tries to throw it look like you wasn't
- 45:11Speaker 2: ready to throw, and again two outscratched you cannot throw
- 45:14Speaker 2: the ball.
- 45:16Speaker 3: I'll even go on top of that. What I tell
- 45:18Speaker 3: catchers and I tell my team there's two outs in
- 45:21Speaker 3: the game, the runner on third. Especially young kids, especially
- 45:25Speaker 3: high school kids, they're.
- 45:26Speaker 4: Like, oh, runner on third, Oh my gosh.
- 45:30Speaker 3: Block the ball. Honestly, I don't even care if we're up.
- 45:33Speaker 3: I think it was two oh count right there. I
- 45:35Speaker 3: don't care if you can't find the strike zone. I
- 45:38Speaker 3: have an opportunity to walk two guys and still get
- 45:41Speaker 3: three to zero. One another batter, and we're still not
- 45:44Speaker 3: losing the game. Like, I am not picking off? Who
- 45:47Speaker 3: was it? Didn Max Muntz He say like, hey, we'll
- 45:49Speaker 3: think about maybe picking ikf off here in the World
- 45:54Speaker 3: Series Game seven. No, Giants, No, you aren't doing it.
- 45:58Speaker 3: It's not happening. And I love throwing. AJ was really
- 46:01Speaker 3: good at hitting. I really liked throwing. I would throw
- 46:05Speaker 3: the basis. I loved picking guys off a second, trying
