Transcript
- 0:06Speaker 1: Good morning, Mafia! It's Sunday, October 11th, and this is
- 0:11Speaker 1: The Morning Charge, your daily 10-minute or less Buffalo Bills
- 0:15Speaker 1: news hit. I'm Aaron Quinn, here with Colin Ritchie, bringing
- 0:18Speaker 1: you everything you need to know before you start your day.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Let's get right into it.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Injury Update Two players have officially been ruled out for
- 0:27Speaker 2: the Bills on Monday night, defensive tackle Ed Oliver and
- 0:31Speaker 2: wide receiver Joshua Palmer. Oliver was a DNP all week
- 0:35Speaker 2: in practice, while Palmer was limited on Friday but downgraded
- 0:40Speaker 2: to a DNP on Saturday with his shoulder injury that
- 0:43Speaker 2: popped up in practice this week. Three bills are questionable,
- 0:48Speaker 2: wide receiver D.J. Moore, cornerback D. Alford, and defensive lineman
- 0:52Speaker 2: Landon Jackson. Moore did not participate in Thursday or Friday's practice,
- 0:57Speaker 2: but was limited on Saturday. Alford followed the same track,
- 1:01Speaker 2: logging a limited practice on Saturday after sitting out on
- 1:05Speaker 2: Thursday and Friday. Jackson was limited on Thursday, but a
- 1:08Speaker 2: full participant on both Friday and Saturday, putting him on
- 1:12Speaker 2: a good track to play on Monday. On the Rams' side,
- 1:16Speaker 2: they only have one player with an injury designation. Starting
- 1:19Speaker 2: safety Quentin Lake is questionable after practicing in a limited
- 1:23Speaker 2: fashion on Saturday, his first practice of the week. Head
- 1:28Speaker 2: coach Sean McVay said Lake is trending in the right
- 1:31Speaker 2: direction to play on Monday night. Joe Brady spoke to
- 1:35Speaker 2: the media yesterday, and the biggest headline was about a
- 1:38Speaker 2: rookie wide receiver. Skyler Bellhive, your time has come. Brady
- 1:43Speaker 2: confirmed the rookie wide receiver out of UConn will see
- 1:46Speaker 2: his first NFL action on Monday night, saying, quote, Skyler's
- 1:50Speaker 2: going to be up. It was good because early in
- 1:52Speaker 2: the week, he's taking DJ's plays in practice just as
- 1:55Speaker 2: we kind of go through it. So like I've been
- 1:58Speaker 2: saying all along, it's not like he hasn't been getting
- 2:00Speaker 2: work with Josh. It's an opportunity for him. He's made
- 2:03Speaker 2: the most of these opportunities. And now just knowing that
- 2:05Speaker 2: he's going to be up and just going through, hey,
- 2:08Speaker 2: these are going to be your plays now with Josh
- 2:10Speaker 2: Palmer down, that type of thing. So I've got all
- 2:13Speaker 2: the confidence in Skyler and I'm excited for his opportunity.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Brady shed some light on Joshua Palmer appearing on the
- 2:20Speaker 2: injury report midweek with a shoulder injury. Quote, he's got
- 2:24Speaker 2: kind of twisted up yesterday in practice, Brady said. So
- 2:27Speaker 2: we're still kind of going through some of the testing
- 2:29Speaker 2: and whatnot. I'll probably have a better answer as we
- 2:32Speaker 2: go through and get some of these images back and
- 2:34Speaker 2: go from there. DJ Moore is questionable after logging a
- 2:38Speaker 2: limited practice on Saturday and Brady explained that Moore has
- 2:41Speaker 2: already shown that he can go out there and play
- 2:44Speaker 2: in a game and have success without the reps in practice.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Regarding both Moore and Alford, Brady said he feels confident
- 2:51Speaker 2: that the veterans will be able to adequately communicate how
- 2:54Speaker 2: they feel over the next two days to help determine
- 2:56Speaker 2: if they'll be active against the Rams. While practice squad
- 3:00Speaker 2: players don't get injury designations, Brady was asked about DB
- 3:04Speaker 2: Takori Couch, who injured his hamstring against New England and
- 3:08Speaker 2: was ruled doubtful to return last Sunday. Brady said that
- 3:11Speaker 2: Couch is still a possibility to play against the Rams.
- 3:16Speaker 2: The rookie wide receiver, Bell, spoke to the media after
- 3:19Speaker 2: the announcement that he'll be making his debut on Monday
- 3:21Speaker 2: Night Football. Bell disclosed that he found out a few
- 3:24Speaker 2: days ago that he'd be playing. He said he's really
- 3:28Speaker 2: excited and just ready to go. And there's several reasons
- 3:31Speaker 2: he feels really confident. First, his preparation for this moment,
- 3:35Speaker 2: but also the guys in the locker room helping him
- 3:37Speaker 2: whenever he needs it, his receiver coach doing a great
- 3:40Speaker 2: job of preparing him, and Coach Brady putting him in
- 3:43Speaker 2: a position to be successful. He was asked what type
- 3:46Speaker 2: of receiver he is and what sort of skill set
- 3:48Speaker 2: he'd bring to this Buffalo offense. And he described himself
- 3:50Speaker 2: as explosive, dynamic, and someone with speed that tries to
- 3:54Speaker 2: make every play that comes his way. Stat of the day.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Since the start of last season, the Bills and Rams
- 4:01Speaker 2: rank as the NFL's top two scoring offenses. The Bills
- 4:05Speaker 2: have averaged 29 points per game, while the Rams are
- 4:09Speaker 2: right behind them, averaging 28.7 points per game.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Bills fans will get to enjoy stress-free football on Sunday
- 4:17Speaker 1: afternoon while kicking back to watch a full slate of games.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Here are some to keep an eye on. Wake up
- 4:22Speaker 1: with the Philadelphia Eagles versus the Jacksonville Jaguars at 9.30 Eastern.
- 4:27Speaker 1: The 3-1 Jaguars take on the 2-2 Eagles in London,
- 4:30Speaker 1: where the Jags look to solidify themselves as one of
- 4:32Speaker 1: the top contenders in the AFC and make some space
- 4:35Speaker 1: in the AFC South lead. Then, some good games in
- 4:39Speaker 1: the 1 o'clock window. The Las Vegas Raiders at New
- 4:42Speaker 1: England Patriots on CBS. This will be broadcast in the
- 4:45Speaker 1: Buffalo Market. The Patriots come off a week 4 win
- 4:48Speaker 1: over the Bills, sitting at 2-2. They host the 3-1 Raiders,
- 4:52Speaker 1: who have been an early surprise team in this young season.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Patriots' loss would help the Bills get back some of
- 4:57Speaker 1: the cushion they gave up when they lost last week.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Indianapolis Colts at Pittsburgh Steelers on CBS. Both teams sit
- 5:05Speaker 1: at 2-2, bunched up in the middle ground of the AFC.
- 5:08Speaker 1: With conference records and head-to-head tiebreakers coming into play late
- 5:11Speaker 1: in the season, keep an eye on this one with
- 5:13Speaker 1: two potential wildcard teams as they try to build some momentum.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Cleveland Browns vs. New York Jets on CBS. The Jets
- 5:21Speaker 1: sit at 1-3, while the Browns come in as another
- 5:23Speaker 1: surprise team coming into New Jersey boasting a 3-1 record.
- 5:28Speaker 1: A loss would keep the Jets buried in the AFC East,
- 5:30Speaker 1: but a win would put the Browns in the company
- 5:32Speaker 1: with other AFC frontrunners. Cincinnati Bengals at Miami Dolphins on
- 5:37Speaker 1: Fox Miami is trudging along the bottom of the AFC,
- 5:41Speaker 1: likely to remain there all year. Meanwhile, the Bengals are
- 5:44Speaker 1: middling at 2-2 and trying to bounce back, trying to
- 5:47Speaker 1: stay in the thick of the logjam in the middle
- 5:49Speaker 1: of the AFC. Then, in the 4 o'clock window, Denver
- 5:53Speaker 1: Broncos at Los Angeles Chargers on CBS. This game will
- 5:56Speaker 1: not be broadcast in the Buffalo area, as CBS doesn't
- 5:59Speaker 1: have a second national game that day. A divisional battle
- 6:02Speaker 1: in the West, the Chargers have struggled out of the
- 6:04Speaker 1: gate this season at 0-4, while Denver sits at 2-2.
- 6:07Speaker 1: A Broncos win keeps them in the thick of the
- 6:09Speaker 1: wildcard logjam in the AFC, and a Chargers loss pushes
- 6:13Speaker 1: them up the draft board this spring. The night caps
- 6:16Speaker 1: off with the Baltimore Ravens at the Atlanta Falcons at
- 6:19Speaker 1: 820 on NBC and streaming on Peacock. Baltimore comes in
- 6:23Speaker 1: at 3-1 and looks to beat top contenders in the
- 6:25Speaker 1: AFC North and the AFC.
- 6:27Speaker 2: As a whole.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Let's close out today's show with a quick trip down
- 6:31Speaker 1: memory lane with another On This Day in Bills history
- 6:34Speaker 1: for October 11th, featuring two famous games in the stadium
- 6:38Speaker 1: that couldn't possibly be more different. First, we go back
- 6:42Speaker 1: to 1993. In a highly anticipated Monday Night Football rematch
- 6:46Speaker 1: just nine months after the comeback wildcard game, the Bills
- 6:50Speaker 1: dismantled Warren Moon and the Houston Oilers 35-7 in front
- 6:53Speaker 1: of almost 80,000 fans in Orchard Park. Jim Kelly threw
- 6:57Speaker 1: three touchdowns, including an 85-yard bomb to Andre Reid. Thurman
- 7:01Speaker 1: Thomas gashed the Oilers' defense for 127 rushing yards and
- 7:04Speaker 1: a touchdown. To top it off, the Bills' defense absolutely dominated,
- 7:08Speaker 1: forcing seven turnovers, including three interceptions on Warren Moon and
- 7:11Speaker 1: two Bruce Smith sacks. Then, on the complete opposite end
- 7:17Speaker 1: of the spectrum, we go to 2009. The Bills lost
- 7:20Speaker 1: 6-3 to the Cleveland Browns in what was widely remembered
- 7:23Speaker 1: as one of the ugliest, most unwatchable games in modern
- 7:26Speaker 1: NFL history. Browns quarterback Derek Anderson completed just two passes
- 7:31Speaker 1: all afternoon for 23 yards, while both punters combined for
- 7:34Speaker 1: a staggering 16 punts on the day. That's going to
- 7:38Speaker 1: do it for us today on the Morning Charge. Do
- 7:40Speaker 1: us a quick favor, hit that subscribe button, leave a
