Transcript
- 0:02Good evening, Grace Harbor.
- 0:03It's Dan. I hope you had a great Thursday.
- 0:06I had a slow day.
- 0:10That rush I was feeling after the big party last night...
- 0:13That wore off shortly after I finished this morning's
- 0:16podcast, and I crashed.
- 0:19Have you ever done that?
- 0:21You feel excited and full of energy, and then suddenly it all seems to go away.
- 0:27You go from running around and talking a mile a minute
- 0:30and then all you want to do is take a nap or just sit on the couch and veg.
- 0:36Because the Christmas tree lighting is such a big deal
- 0:38and so many people are involved,
- 0:40I'm not the only one who feels this way.
- 0:43The day after is usually pretty slow around town.
- 0:47I even asked my daughter what she did at recess today, and she said
- 0:50she just kept taking turns on the swings instead of running around like normal.
- 0:55And this has all gotten me to thinking:
- 0:58Have you ever been grateful for slow days?
- 1:01I'm grateful that I had nothing on my calendar.
- 1:04I could spend a little extra time reading my Bible,
- 1:08praying, and drinking my morning cup of coffee.
- 1:11I could take my time cleaning up the crumbs of 500 cookies
- 1:14in both the church kitchen and my car.
- 1:17I didn't feel rushed by anything because I had no deadlines to meet
- 1:22and nothing I could be late for.
- 1:24Maybe you've had days like that.
- 1:26A slow Saturday morning, after a long week of school,
- 1:30or the stretch of days after Christmas and
- 1:32before school starts back when there's not much going on.
- 1:36I know some of you might be the kind of kids
- 1:39who never run out of energy, and that sounds crazy to you,
- 1:43but I promise the adults know what I'm talking about.
- 1:46Sometimes we need slow days to rest and recharge.
- 1:51So since I am ready to get to bed
- 1:54myself, let's wind down together.
- 1:58We're going to try something a little bit different tonight.
- 2:01I'm going to ask you some questions that will help you think about today.
- 2:06I'm going to
- 2:07go kind of slow so you have time to think.
- 2:10And especially if it's bedtime,
- 2:12go ahead and lay down.
- 2:14You can close your eyes. If you end up falling asleep,
- 2:17no worries.
- 2:21Okay, here we go.
- 2:23I want you to first think about the food
- 2:26you ate today.
- 2:29What did you have for breakfast
- 2:32or lunch
- 2:35or dinner?
- 2:39Did you have any snacks
- 2:41or treats?
- 2:44What was your favorite thing you ate today?
- 2:51Thank you, God,
- 2:52for the food that fuels our bodies.
- 2:56Now let's think about the people we saw today.
- 3:00What members of your family
- 3:02did you see or talk to today?
- 3:08What friends
- 3:09did you see at school or at work
- 3:13or in your neighborhood?
- 3:17Was there anyone today
- 3:18that brought a smile to your face or made you laugh?
- 3:26Thank you God,
- 3:27for the family, friends, and neighbors
- 3:30who fill our lives with connection and joy.
- 3:37Did anything happen today
- 3:38that didn't go so well?
- 3:43Did you feel lonely or sad at any point?
- 3:49Did you get into an argument
- 3:50with anyone or feel mad?
- 3:54Did you try something and it didn't work
- 3:57or go the way you'd hoped?
- 4:01Thank you God, for this day.
- 4:04Whether it was a good one or a bad one,
- 4:08a jam packed day or a slow day,
- 4:12thank you that you love us and are with us, no matter what.
- 4:16We ask that you would give us a good night's sleep tonight
- 4:19so that we can wake up tomorrow rested and refreshed
- 4:24and ready to be more like the people you made us to be.
- 4:28Amen.
- 4:29All right.
- 4:30Good night, Grace Harbor.
- 4:32I'll talk to you in the morning.
