- Cory: Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, good wee hours of the night, and welcome to the Daily Word Podcast from Lakeshore Christian Fellowship. My name is Corey Barnes. It's my privilege to serve as our Catawakampus pastor, and I'm excited to be sitting down with you for another Daily Word episode where we're going to be doing a devotion out of the New Testament portion of our life journal Bible reading plan. Today is October the 11th. And that means that on our plan, we are finishing out the book of Luke, Luke chapter 24. And I have to tell you this morning, or whatever time you're listening, that what stood out to me was very simple, just a very simple reminder that we can pull from verse 6. This is as the women have come to the tomb and they are asking the angel that they meet there, what happened? Where is Jesus? And The angels replied to these women, He is not here, he has risen. Remember how he told you while he was still with you in Galilee, the Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of the sinners and be crucified and on the third day be raised again? Then they remembered his words. I have to tell you this ties in a lot to this morning's sermon on the covenant steps. That served as a remembrance of the covenant that God made with us, the blood covenant that was sealed through the death of Jesus. But this is just honestly a truth beyond just that one context and one thing that the the Lord instituted that we be reminded of. And this is just the basic thought that we all need to be reminded of. things like speaking as a man whose wife is constantly reminding me of everything. I said I said the other day that I am I I if it weren't for Megan, I don't know where I'd be. I it certainly wouldn't be wherever I'm supposed to be at any given moment. I I I'm I'm horrible at remembering. Anything keeping up with my calendar, all that Megan has to remind me constantly, and I get irritated with how much she has to remind me, but I get irritated because I know that it's valid that she has to remind me so much of everything. I just it goes in one ear, not the other. Sometimes I just do not recall. she could have told me three or four times sometimes, and I still won't remember. So this morning or afternoon or evening or we hour of the night, whenever you are listening to this, I just want to remind you that there are things that God has spoken to you that you need to be reminded of. When was the last time that you went and you just Went through some old journals perhaps, or some old notes on your phone, or just went casting around in your memory. For times that the Lord has spoken things to you, have you taken steps to bring those things back in front of your eyes and see them again? Let the hope of those things the Lord has spoken to you well up inside you, that faith-filled expectation that what he has spoken, he will bring to completion in your life. Because the truth is we all forget things that the Lord speaks to you. I'm telling you, I have been victim to that, victim to myself, more times than I care to say. I can be spending time in prayer. And the Lord will tell me something so beautiful, a promise for the future, something that just really a revelation from the Word of God, where just dots click, and I see something come alive in scripture to me in a way that I've never seen before. And it can feel so real and so powerful. The revelation can feel so strong in that moment. And I can walk away from that moment knowing I had me a good time with Jesus. But then because I didn't write it down or I didn't put it somewhere for me to remember, I can completely lose sight. I can completely forget things that I know the Lord spoke to me. It was the word of the Lord and I just I just lost it. Because I'm human and there are times where the Lord has to come in and remind me of things That he's already spoken to me. And much unfortunately, much like when my wife comes and reminds me of things, when the Lord comes and reminds me, I've forgotten it so clearly that I feel like it's the first time the Lord's brought it to my attention. Gosh, Lord help me and Lord help Megan. But sometimes we need to be reminded of what it is the Lord has spoken to us. So today's application. Why don't you spend a couple minutes? If you have journals at hand and you want to thumb through them, go for it. Pull out 2024, 2025's journals. Go and look through notes on your phone. Or just ask the Lord to bring something to mind to remind you of something He's spoken to you in of the past that you need to recollect. Because when the Lord speaks something to us, there is a responsibility we have to not let him waste his words, to not let him waste his time. He is patient and he is gracious and he doesn't beat us up when he has to remind us of things. But it's important for us as well that once he reveals something to us, we have some responsibility for it. So in this moment. Let's spend a little bit of time seeking things that he has spoken to us in the past, personally to our lives, directive words, encouragements, strengthening things, and bring those back before our eyes and remember them. Let's pray. Father God, I thank you. I thank you that you don't come to us with a spirit of condemnation. You don't beat us over the head. You don't get angry with us. When we fail to keep up with things that you have spoken to us, you are gracious to send reminders to us, like this reminder right now that you're sending to your people. Lord, I believe that in these moments, as people walk out this application to this devotion, you are going to be good. You are going to be gracious. You're going to be kind and loving, and you are going to bring those things to people's memories. You are going to remind them of what you have spoken because you have spoken good things that affirm who they are and who you are and who you made them to be. Lord Jesus, I just praise you and I thank you for your fantastic goodness that is beyond compare. We love you, Jesus. Amen.
