Transcript
- 0:11Speaker 1: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a homemark review podcast. I'm
- 0:13Speaker 1: Megan and I'm a longtime Hallmark fan. I'm Wendy, I'm
- 0:16Speaker 1: a former homemark hater. Today we're kicking off our review
- 0:19Speaker 1: series of the brand new Hallmark Plus exclusive series Paris
- 0:24Speaker 1: is always a good idea. The first two episodes are
- 0:26Speaker 1: now streaming on Hallmark Plus, with the new episodes dropping weekly.
- 0:31Speaker 1: We invite you to keep up with us over on Instagram,
- 0:33Speaker 1: where we are Girls Gone Hallmark. We're also on Facebook
- 0:36Speaker 1: under the same name if that's your preferred platform it
- 0:40Speaker 1: has been lately for some people. Indeed, Hey, we would
- 0:43Speaker 1: love to do a special mailbag episode for Paris is
- 0:46Speaker 1: always a good idea, So if you have thoughts on
- 0:49Speaker 1: this series weekly or whatever, email us hello at Girls
- 0:53Speaker 1: Gone Hallmark dot com. We had a great book club.
- 0:58Speaker 1: I was just thinking it would be so fun to
- 1:00Speaker 1: hear people because episode one diverts from the book, yes,
- 1:06Speaker 1: and so I'd be really curious to hear people's thoughts
- 1:08Speaker 1: on that. Yes, so please email us. Maybe you know
- 1:12Speaker 1: I remember somebody in the book club asking like, hey,
- 1:14Speaker 1: can we circle back and discuss the show when it
- 1:18Speaker 1: comes out? So I don't I don't know how to
- 1:21Speaker 1: do that exactly. It can be group driven. We don't
- 1:26Speaker 1: need to be guiding those discussions. They can just use
- 1:28Speaker 1: that as a place to discuss the show. Love it,
- 1:30Speaker 1: Love it. Why don't we kick off our discussion of
- 1:34Speaker 1: episode one of Paris is always a good idea with
- 1:37Speaker 1: a synopsis. Nonprofit executive Chelsea is in Paris to secure
- 1:43Speaker 1: a major donor, but begins an unexpected journey across Europe
- 1:47Speaker 1: to reconnect with her past loves. We're going to run
- 1:51Speaker 1: down some of the major players in this. We'll dig
- 1:53Speaker 1: into them a little bit later in this series, but
- 1:56Speaker 1: first up, we have Lazy Sherbert as Chelsea. Michael Foster
- 2:00Speaker 1: plays Jason, Rebecca Hansen plays sister Annabel. Henry's Zernie plays
- 2:06Speaker 1: Dad Glenn. Barbara Nivin appears as Sherry. Anna Wilson Jones
- 2:11Speaker 1: appears as Chelsea's mom, Christine. The teleplay is by Lauren
- 2:15Speaker 1: Muir and Heidi Cole McAdams and it is based on
- 2:18Speaker 1: the book by Jen McKinley. And this episode was directed
- 2:22Speaker 1: by Emmer Conroy. Hey, Wendy, what is your first impression
- 2:27Speaker 1: of Episode one, Paris Revisited? I don't know what shocked
- 2:31Speaker 1: me more how good this pilot was, or hearing the
- 2:35Speaker 1: word lovers on Hallmark every five minutes. Well, my first
- 2:40Speaker 1: impression is kind of in the same vein. It's whoa
- 2:43Speaker 1: was that Jason Knightley or Christian Gray in the nightclub? Dude, dude,
- 2:48Speaker 1: thank you so much for saying that. I was like,
- 2:51Speaker 1: whoa Hallmark Plus after dark? It was giving yes, fifty shades?
- 2:57Speaker 1: Was it not? Yes? I thought I was alone in
- 3:01Speaker 1: this moment, and I'm so glad you said it. Yeah,
- 3:07Speaker 1: and that's not Oh gosh, you know, full disclosure. We're
- 3:11Speaker 1: recording this review before the show has. Actually I can't
- 3:16Speaker 1: wait to see the reaction on Hallmark Plus and so like,
- 3:19Speaker 1: it's not even like internet chatter. No, you know there's
- 3:23Speaker 1: a similarity here. Yes, ma'am what hello? No, it's yes, ma'am. Yeah,
- 3:29Speaker 1: it was dirty. I was like, what is happening? Book talk? Here?
- 3:37Speaker 1: We come totally Okay, let's can I just say I
- 3:43Speaker 1: really thought this was very good. I would watch this
- 3:48Speaker 1: one hundred percent without like, I would continue watching this
- 3:52Speaker 1: if we were not reviewing it, Like I would turn
- 3:54Speaker 1: it on and look forward to watching it every week.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Me too, This is so in the of what I've
- 4:00Speaker 1: been watching lately, like I loved lle I know you
- 4:03Speaker 1: hated it, but it was like light and frothy, five
- 4:05Speaker 1: Star Weekend, just these like female driven fun series. Yes,
- 4:11Speaker 1: I love it. Yeah, I really liked it. I hope
- 4:15Speaker 1: it lands well with Hallmark audiences. I don't know if
- 4:19Speaker 1: it's going to I hope so too. And because the
- 4:21Speaker 1: thing that for me that I like is it's really
- 4:24Speaker 1: walking that line. There's nothing inappropriate about it when you
- 4:28Speaker 1: watch it, Like, there's no nudity, there's no sec right,
- 4:32Speaker 1: there's no bad language. But there are going to be
- 4:35Speaker 1: some people who feel like it's walking a line, and
- 4:37Speaker 1: for me, I love that line. I'm like, push the
- 4:39Speaker 1: envelope a little bit. It makes it not so like hallmarkified. Yes,
- 4:45Speaker 1: but it could go either way. And I wonder if
- 4:48Speaker 1: they're like, well, it's on the streamer, so we can
- 4:51Speaker 1: we can push the envelope a little bit. Well, hey,
- 4:53Speaker 1: I'm here for it. If you're familiar with our reviews
- 4:56Speaker 1: of the Way Home. If you're not, you should go
- 4:57Speaker 1: listen to them. But if you're familiar with those, these
- 5:00Speaker 1: episodes are going to follow a similar format where we
- 5:02Speaker 1: run through kind of the major plot point beats and
- 5:06Speaker 1: riff on those. One thing that's not in my notes
- 5:10Speaker 1: because I'm not really sure where we want to put
- 5:12Speaker 1: it is our opening and closing bookends of the bridal Suite. Okay, yes,
- 5:18Speaker 1: let's just do it here. Okay, So we open with
- 5:21Speaker 1: our main character Chelsea. In my notes, I was like,
- 5:23Speaker 1: what appears to be a bridal suite At the end
- 5:25Speaker 1: of the episode, it very clearly is there's a wedding
- 5:27Speaker 1: dress hanging and she's recording a voice note for someone
- 5:32Speaker 1: right about how their love story came to be her
- 5:36Speaker 1: and whoever she's with. Correct, and then we flash back
- 5:41Speaker 1: to the beginning of her story. Two things. Yes, we
- 5:46Speaker 1: get this opening bridal suite scene, and then we get
- 5:51Speaker 1: into we get like the opening like the what is
- 5:55Speaker 1: it called, you know, like the credits and stuff. Oh yes,
- 5:58Speaker 1: super cute love and then they play that really cute
- 6:02Speaker 1: don't get me wrong, but it's like a different version
- 6:05Speaker 1: of it. Yeah, like if it's giving a lot of personality,
- 6:10Speaker 1: which I didn't expect up top. You know, we've talked
- 6:13Speaker 1: about a you hook us when you have a good opening. Indeed,
- 6:19Speaker 1: so it felt very contemporary. I loved that, But then
- 6:22Speaker 1: back to this bridal scene thing. I I was a
- 6:25Speaker 1: little discombobulated because I was like, I was expecting what
- 6:31Speaker 1: happened in the book. Mm hmm. You know we get
- 6:35Speaker 1: a bridle store in the book. Yeah, right, yeah, like
- 6:41Speaker 1: you know, and none of that is happening, So I'm like,
- 6:43Speaker 1: what what you know? I think this is a nice
- 6:48Speaker 1: framing device. We immediately know that Chelsea's going to end
- 6:51Speaker 1: up at a wedding, and she's telling the story of
- 6:53Speaker 1: how they get there. We just don't know who, right,
- 6:58Speaker 1: And I'm assuming when it we get the end scene
- 7:02Speaker 1: it's her wedding because we see the wedding dress in
- 7:05Speaker 1: the background. But maybe we could be wrong. Maybe I
- 7:09Speaker 1: don't know. You're right, we don't know. There is discussion
- 7:12Speaker 1: of another proposal in this episode, so we don't know
- 7:15Speaker 1: for sure. I want to talk really quickly about the
- 7:18Speaker 1: book versus the show and not going into comparison detail,
- 7:23Speaker 1: but yeah, I have only watched the first episode. To me,
- 7:27Speaker 1: it feels like the setup is very similar. They're telling
- 7:30Speaker 1: the same story, but they're framing it differently. They're setting
- 7:34Speaker 1: it up differently, and I am not bothered by it.
- 7:37Speaker 1: I loved this episode. I thought they did a really
- 7:39Speaker 1: nice job with all of this setup. Annabelle plays a
- 7:42Speaker 1: much bigger role in the series, which makes sense because
- 7:48Speaker 1: in a you can't have internal dialogue on the page.
- 7:52Speaker 1: In the show, she needs that person to bounce things
- 7:56Speaker 1: off of. So I like this setup a lot because
- 8:00Speaker 1: it tells us what we need to know in a
- 8:02Speaker 1: way a book, the character can do a lot of
- 8:05Speaker 1: thinking and we can remember these things. Yeah, I like
- 8:08Speaker 1: this setup. And I know there's going to be book
- 8:10Speaker 1: traditionalists who are not going to love that setup, and
- 8:13Speaker 1: I would love to hear from you how you feel
- 8:15Speaker 1: about that. But I'm not bothered by it at all.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Me neither. I loved it. I actually do think it's
- 8:22Speaker 1: better because the book starts off really contentious. It starts
- 8:25Speaker 1: off in a really negative place, and they have to
- 8:28Speaker 1: work backwards from that, and there is some of that
- 8:33Speaker 1: in this, but it doesn't set the tone for the
- 8:37Speaker 1: entire thing. I can't even imagine if we had started
- 8:39Speaker 1: off in the same place the book did, I know? Agree? Agree?
- 8:43Speaker 1: So why don't we get into the meat of the episode. Okay,
- 8:47Speaker 1: we kick it off with Chelsea at work, walking into
- 8:50Speaker 1: her bright, beautiful office. I mean I don't know if
- 8:54Speaker 1: you've ever worked for a nonprofit, but this is a
- 8:56Speaker 1: nice office space. I gotta say, worked for a nonprofit
- 9:01Speaker 1: or too, and our office spaces did not look like this.
- 9:04Speaker 1: That's hilarious. Yeah, it was nice. I really enjoyed her.
- 9:08Speaker 1: She kind of had a uniform a little bit. I
- 9:11Speaker 1: don't know if you noticed it later on pencil skirt.
- 9:15Speaker 1: I mean, that's a lazy go to, but really cute
- 9:19Speaker 1: tank top. But she was kind of wearing the same
- 9:21Speaker 1: sort of tank top later on in the episode too,
- 9:23Speaker 1: and I was like, Okay, girlfriend, you look good in
- 9:26Speaker 1: the tank top. Were are the tank top? You know,
- 9:27Speaker 1: Jennifer Andison has a uniform too. I'm into it with
- 9:31Speaker 1: Jennifer Anderson's uniform white T shirt and jeans pretty much,
- 9:35Speaker 1: or black T shirt and jeans and pretty I mean, hey,
- 9:39Speaker 1: where what works? Right? I gotta tell you this is
- 9:42Speaker 1: where the show instantly wins me over because we have
- 9:45Speaker 1: now introduced Scott, Michael Foster and Lacey. Right. We talk
- 9:49Speaker 1: a lot about like, oh, people having chemistry. These two
- 9:54Speaker 1: wow the gates chemistry. They can banter banter her He
- 10:00Speaker 1: is so good the pace of it too. You know,
- 10:03Speaker 1: you and I have talked a lot about like we
- 10:05Speaker 1: are from the school of Gilmour. Yes, we want that
- 10:08Speaker 1: rapid pace dialogue and this deliver Oh they're so good.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Like she comes in, he's walking on the walking pad
- 10:16Speaker 1: and they're instantly into it. I loved it. And you know,
- 10:21Speaker 1: I hate the trope of enemies to lovers, right, I
- 10:26Speaker 1: cannot stand it. But here I'm buying into these enemies.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Well see, I hate enemies to lovers too because I
- 10:35Speaker 1: think it's so hard to execute well. And I think somehow,
- 10:41Speaker 1: in spite of the fact that they are not being
- 10:43Speaker 1: nice to each other, there is something about their chemistry
- 10:46Speaker 1: that's drawing me to the two of them. It's because
- 10:49Speaker 1: there's this like low key sexual tension between right, yes,
- 10:53Speaker 1: and so it is done in a way where you're like, oh, well,
- 10:57Speaker 1: I'm rooting for these two already, and it's not a secret,
- 11:01Speaker 1: like they're the two leads. You know, they're supposed to
- 11:03Speaker 1: end up together. Let me make it comparison here, okay,
- 11:06Speaker 1: real quick. When we watched Mystery one oh one, uh huh,
- 11:11Speaker 1: those two were not enemies, right. They didn't come out
- 11:15Speaker 1: for anner, They weren't didn't start as enemy. The lovers,
- 11:17Speaker 1: but there was this low level sexual chemistry between them
- 11:21Speaker 1: that drew us in. Yes, so I kind of feel
- 11:25Speaker 1: like it's the same, similar in some sort of way,
- 11:29Speaker 1: and you can't write for that. I mean, you can
- 11:31Speaker 1: only write for that so far. Right, Yes, the writing
- 11:34Speaker 1: has to be there, the storytelling has to be there,
- 11:37Speaker 1: but you've got to get give the credit to Lazy
- 11:39Speaker 1: and Scott Michael Foster in this moment. And I think
- 11:42Speaker 1: Scott Michael Foster is excellent. I think they're both excellent casting.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Like Lazy plays like the buttoned up type a so well,
- 11:50Speaker 1: but Scott Michael Foster it is a plus casting and
- 11:56Speaker 1: someone who loved the series Greek, the progression from him
- 12:00Speaker 1: as Cappy on Greek to this is a thing of beauty.
- 12:04Speaker 1: I'm all in. Yeah, me too, I'm all into. But
- 12:07Speaker 1: you know, it's funny you say, like, oh, Lacey's this
- 12:09Speaker 1: type a buttoned up, and she is, but she's different
- 12:13Speaker 1: from we've seen her type a buttoned up in other
- 12:17Speaker 1: Hallmark things. Here she's a little bit more like lived
- 12:20Speaker 1: some life and has dealt with some shit. Sorry, you
- 12:24Speaker 1: know that feels like she's the character is so different
- 12:29Speaker 1: than who she's played in the Past on Hallmark to Me,
- 12:31Speaker 1: to Me, Yeah, she plays a romantic a lot of
- 12:34Speaker 1: times on All Yeah, uh huh, sweet, Like I just
- 12:38Speaker 1: loved it. I loved it so much. I love that
- 12:39Speaker 1: they like really challenge each other, they interrupt each other.
- 12:43Speaker 1: He's ambitious and smug, but also like emotionally intelligent underneath
- 12:50Speaker 1: it all. I agree, And in the early voiceover from
- 12:53Speaker 1: the Bridal Sweet, the big takeaway is, yes, she's telling
- 12:56Speaker 1: the story of her love story, but she's also telling
- 12:59Speaker 1: a how it came from a broken hearted place. Like
- 13:02Speaker 1: she's talked about how she left Europe broken hearted, and
- 13:05Speaker 1: she left broken and that has put her in the
- 13:07Speaker 1: place she is today where she's very closed off to
- 13:10Speaker 1: the idea of love. So she is not bantering from
- 13:15Speaker 1: like a flirty perspective, yes, uh huh at all, Nightly,
- 13:19Speaker 1: I would argue, is a little bit for sure. Yeah,
- 13:22Speaker 1: I think she's kind of more like tightly wound and
- 13:27Speaker 1: emotionally you know, closed off, close off, Yeah, exactly. And
- 13:31Speaker 1: he's trying to use his charms to get what he
- 13:34Speaker 1: wants and she's not having it. She's not having it.
- 13:37Speaker 1: I love it. Also, a question for you, is this
- 13:39Speaker 1: a duncan sponsorship in this moment, of course. I mean
- 13:42Speaker 1: it's like bright orange, enormous black coffee, black and boring.
- 13:48Speaker 1: I laughed out loud. I loved it. I was like, oh, hey, Duncan,
- 13:53Speaker 1: I'm you know, it is giving Kings Hawaiian a little bit.
- 13:57Speaker 1: But it's going to be hard to turn me off
- 13:59Speaker 1: of this show. I think me too. But I was like, Okay,
- 14:01Speaker 1: we're in Boston. I got it, Duncan, got it. Check check. Yeah,
- 14:05Speaker 1: it makes sense. It's perfect product placement, totally, totally, totally.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Basically like the net net of this office scene is
- 14:13Speaker 1: Chelsea does her presentation. Sophie Arno is this like executive
- 14:18Speaker 1: who's also kind of like can't be bothered. It was
- 14:21Speaker 1: very weird. She's like got her dog, she's distracted, but
- 14:24Speaker 1: everyone's like afraid of her. She pulls all the strings
- 14:27Speaker 1: and she's like, all right, you got to come to
- 14:28Speaker 1: Paris to pitch me. Here Chelsea spins out a little bit.
- 14:32Speaker 1: She's like, I can't go back to Paris. I loved
- 14:34Speaker 1: how her boss was like, all right, I'll just said
- 14:37Speaker 1: nightly and she's like, nope, I can do it. I
- 14:39Speaker 1: can do it. I loved her boss. I love I
- 14:41Speaker 1: love aiden a great casting again, and the way that
- 14:46Speaker 1: the dialogue is written and the interactions between the two.
- 14:49Speaker 1: They have a phone call later on too, that I
- 14:51Speaker 1: loved very much. Are you gonna make me use my
- 14:54Speaker 1: boss voice? I loved it, loved it all right. So
- 14:57Speaker 1: let's move into the family dinner scene where she has
- 15:01Speaker 1: to tell her dad and sister that she has to
- 15:04Speaker 1: go to Paris. Huh. What I liked about here is
- 15:09Speaker 1: that what I didn't understand at first is like I
- 15:12Speaker 1: was like, Oh, Chelsea's not afraid of Paris, Like she's
- 15:15Speaker 1: afraid of saying goodbye to her mother and revisiting all
- 15:18Speaker 1: of that emotional baggage again. I thought, Okay, here's the
- 15:24Speaker 1: meat of the show, Like the emotional aspect of the show.
- 15:27Speaker 1: It's not just going to be you know, Chelsea like
- 15:31Speaker 1: revisiting these lovers or having this new connection with Jason
- 15:36Speaker 1: Knightley or whatever it's about, like dealing with the loss
- 15:41Speaker 1: of her mom. Yes, and I really liked it. Yeah,
- 15:46Speaker 1: that framing is so much more obvious in the series
- 15:49Speaker 1: than in the book. Yes, I like it too. I
- 15:52Speaker 1: think it it deepens our connection to the characters and
- 15:55Speaker 1: it tells a more emotionally rich story. Right, let me
- 16:00Speaker 1: talk about Sherry in this scene. Yes, for sure. I
- 16:02Speaker 1: think they do a really nice job of setting up
- 16:05Speaker 1: Sherry as this perfectly lovely woman who as the audience,
- 16:11Speaker 1: it makes us hard to dislike her, even when we
- 16:14Speaker 1: see what happens a little later when there's some pushback
- 16:18Speaker 1: from Chelsea, because immediately Sherrie's lovely. To Chelsea, she's like,
- 16:23Speaker 1: we ordered your favorite. And then as soon as she
- 16:25Speaker 1: can sense tension at the dinner table, she's like, oh,
- 16:28Speaker 1: this is not a moment for me, and she bows
- 16:30Speaker 1: out gracefully. Yeah, And I think, Okay, now we've set
- 16:33Speaker 1: her up as this woman who is a good partner
- 16:36Speaker 1: for your dad and understands like, hey, he needs this
- 16:40Speaker 1: moment with his daughters, and I'm gonna bounce and it's
- 16:42Speaker 1: not heavy handed, and so to me, I'm like, I'm
- 16:46Speaker 1: team Sherry. I'm team Sherry too, and I know Chelsea
- 16:48Speaker 1: will get there even in this moment, like she says
- 16:51Speaker 1: something like sny Ter her sister, like didn't they just
- 16:54Speaker 1: meet two weeks ago at the auction or whatever? Yeah,
- 17:00Speaker 1: but I'm rooting for Sherry here, of course, And Barbara
- 17:04Speaker 1: and Nevin can you stop being so impossibly gorgeous, like,
- 17:08Speaker 1: stop it right now. Question for you, sister. Annabelle seems
- 17:14Speaker 1: incredibly young to me. I don't know if it's like
- 17:18Speaker 1: casting or wardrobe that they put her in that. I
- 17:22Speaker 1: know she's younger, but she seems very young. Now. I
- 17:27Speaker 1: googled the age of the actress that plays her. Uh huh.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Her name is Rebecca Hanson. She's thirty two in real
- 17:34Speaker 1: life according to The Lazy forty forty ish. Yeah, something
- 17:39Speaker 1: like that. I mean, it works, But she just looks.
- 17:42Speaker 1: She looks like a teenager, this girl, she looks. I agree,
- 17:45Speaker 1: she looks younger than Lazy. I think it is both that.
- 17:49Speaker 1: A she is younger than Lazy, and like you said,
- 17:52Speaker 1: she's very sporty and so she's not wearing a ton
- 17:56Speaker 1: of makeup. Her outfits are very casualable. So I think
- 18:01Speaker 1: it's a combination of all of those factors. Now, with
- 18:05Speaker 1: that said, I love Annabelle me too. I love Annabelle,
- 18:10Speaker 1: and I love the Chelsea and annabel scenes together. I'm
- 18:13Speaker 1: so glad this character was elevated in the series because
- 18:17Speaker 1: I'm having not seen the rest. I'm like, oh, she's
- 18:19Speaker 1: gonna be Chelsea's partner throughout all of this, and you know,
- 18:22Speaker 1: I hope she's in every episode because they're so good together.
- 18:26Speaker 1: They have such nice sisterly vibes, and in spite of
- 18:30Speaker 1: annabel being the younger sister, she's the more emotionally mature
- 18:34Speaker 1: one because Chelsea has been so closed off. And they
- 18:39Speaker 1: do make like a therapy reference, like Annabelle's in school
- 18:42Speaker 1: to become a therapist. But at one point when she's
- 18:45Speaker 1: talking to her dad, she's like, that's my own therapy.
- 18:48Speaker 1: They didn't just make me rehab my knee. So like
- 18:50Speaker 1: she's dealt with her stuff in a way that Chelsea hasn't. Yeah,
- 18:55Speaker 1: so good. Are you ready to talk about the Paris
- 19:07Speaker 1: revisited envelope? Let's do it. When they get to the
- 19:11Speaker 1: hotel in Annabelle's unpacking our step and Chelsea sees the envelope. Now,
- 19:17Speaker 1: we had gotten a little bit of flashback scene at
- 19:20Speaker 1: the dinner, so that was giving a little bit of
- 19:22Speaker 1: context of they were supposed to be in Paris at
- 19:25Speaker 1: some point to say goodbye to their mother who passed.
- 19:31Speaker 1: I didn't know if it was like leaving her ashes
- 19:33Speaker 1: somewhere or what it was exactly then we get to
- 19:38Speaker 1: Chelsea sees the envelope on the bed and she's pissed.
- 19:45Speaker 1: She feels a little bamboozled in this moment. She asks Annabel, like,
- 19:48Speaker 1: are you just trying to spring this on me? You're
- 19:50Speaker 1: on my work trip. You know, we didn't talk about it.
- 19:53Speaker 1: But Annabel gets his great idea like, oas let us
- 19:55Speaker 1: go to Paris with you. We're there as your support team. Yah. Right,
- 20:00Speaker 1: So Dad and Annabel go on this trip with her,
- 20:02Speaker 1: which is maybe a little bit unbelievable, but also I
- 20:07Speaker 1: kind of love it. Yeah, of course. So I'm curious, Megan,
- 20:13Speaker 1: would you feel bamboozled if you saw that your sister
- 20:17Speaker 1: had brought this? Well. I was watching it and I
- 20:20Speaker 1: was like lazy, immediately lazy. Chelsea immediately jumps to conclusions,
- 20:24Speaker 1: and in the moment I was like, wait, just let
- 20:26Speaker 1: her talk, like hear her out, ask like find out
- 20:28Speaker 1: why it's there. But I can kind of understand her
- 20:31Speaker 1: point of view, like what are you doing? Like I
- 20:33Speaker 1: couldn't do it then, what do you mean you think
- 20:35Speaker 1: I can do it now? But then I think the
- 20:37Speaker 1: reveal is so much worse because Annabel and Glenn told
- 20:42Speaker 1: Chelsea like no, don't worry. We did it after you left. Yeah,
- 20:45Speaker 1: And now Chelsea's finding out like, oh, we didn't do
- 20:48Speaker 1: it without you, and I feel like that's an extra
- 20:50Speaker 1: layer of guilt. She's like, oh, man, not only was
- 20:52Speaker 1: I not able to do it, but I stopped my
- 20:54Speaker 1: family from right right. And then in this scene, she
- 21:00Speaker 1: just happens to look out the window of the hotel
- 21:02Speaker 1: and what does she see. It's just like a double
- 21:05Speaker 1: whammy of you know, bs that she has to deal with. Yeah,
- 21:10Speaker 1: and she feels like nightly arriving, there is a sign
- 21:13Speaker 1: that her boss doesn't trust her to close the deal. Right,
- 21:18Speaker 1: he is there to close the deal. Yeah, And I
- 21:22Speaker 1: got to tell you when he's like I'm your closer,
- 21:24Speaker 1: I was like, it's kind of hot. Total there is
- 21:27Speaker 1: something about it. But like you said, I do love
- 21:29Speaker 1: the conversation she has with her boss. And I love
- 21:31Speaker 1: it for two reasons. One, Chelsea advocates for herself. She's
- 21:35Speaker 1: not a shrinking violet. She's like, I got us here
- 21:39Speaker 1: like I always gets here. I did the work. But
- 21:44Speaker 1: then her boss is like, do I need to pull
- 21:46Speaker 1: the boss card? Like I'm gonna put on my deep
- 21:49Speaker 1: voice and be like you're gonna do it, And I
- 21:52Speaker 1: like his perspective. He's like, look, it's just extra help.
- 21:55Speaker 1: It's not gonna hurt to have an extra person on hand.
- 21:58Speaker 1: I trust you, but it's too big for me to
- 22:01Speaker 1: not put everybody on the team that could possibly benefit, right,
- 22:05Speaker 1: I don't know. I liked it. I liked it too.
- 22:08Speaker 1: So then we see like Chelsea and Jason they have
- 22:11Speaker 1: She's basically like showing this was really funny. I didn't
- 22:15Speaker 1: realize that was her at the beginning that she was
- 22:18Speaker 1: listening to herself, like, oh, grab the bull by the
- 22:21Speaker 1: balls kind of she's listening like to her own presentation
- 22:26Speaker 1: presentation exactly. The grab the bull by the Balls is
- 22:29Speaker 1: a reference to a movie called Never Been Kissed where
- 22:33Speaker 1: she is listening to her own self help of her
- 22:35Speaker 1: own voice. Do you know what I'm talking about? I do,
- 22:37Speaker 1: remember I do? Anyway, So she's got Jason listening to
- 22:41Speaker 1: like her presentation, right, and he's like, you do this
- 22:45Speaker 1: every time. I just thought it was so funny. And
- 22:47Speaker 1: here they have this great banter again and she tells, man,
- 22:54Speaker 1: the way I got choked up in this scene when
- 22:57Speaker 1: she tells because he's given her hard time, like what's
- 22:59Speaker 1: your family doing here? Like this doesn't make any sense, right,
- 23:03Speaker 1: and she's she explains, my mom died and she's like,
- 23:06Speaker 1: don't give me your pity party. It was ten years ago, again,
- 23:09Speaker 1: totally showing how she's like closed off right. But when
- 23:12Speaker 1: she says, like they were supposed to do this ten
- 23:15Speaker 1: years ago, go to the city she loves and leave
- 23:18Speaker 1: her there, ye, I crumbled just into a ball of
- 23:25Speaker 1: weeping mess. Who am I former hallmarketer? I just thought
- 23:29Speaker 1: this was so good, so so good. Then he says
- 23:35Speaker 1: they need closure and you're not allowing them to do that.
- 23:39Speaker 1: I know. Tough love from Jason Knightley totally. And then
- 23:42Speaker 1: when she like she pauses and like taps her I'm like,
- 23:45Speaker 1: I watched this scene so closely. She taps herself on
- 23:48Speaker 1: her like chest yes, and she's like I actually do
- 23:51Speaker 1: hate you and walks away. I just was like, this
- 23:54Speaker 1: is so freaking good. I loved it. I love that.
- 23:59Speaker 1: He was like, hello, they got on a plane, no notice,
- 24:03Speaker 1: Like who is able to do that? And you're just
- 24:06Speaker 1: out here? Oh, like, get it together, Chelsea. I loved it.
- 24:10Speaker 1: Or get it together Martin as he would say, I
- 24:12Speaker 1: love it. Yeah. When a dude calls someone by their
- 24:15Speaker 1: last name, Oh do you? Yeah, it does something for me. Funny.
- 24:20Speaker 1: That was really funny. So of course we see from
- 24:25Speaker 1: here Chelsea hears his advice basically, and then they set
- 24:30Speaker 1: out to open the Paris Revisited envelope with her family,
- 24:34Speaker 1: and like they go and do the things right. This
- 24:39Speaker 1: is hard to watch for a couple things. For me.
- 24:43Speaker 1: We're listening to like recorded voice memos basically, right. I
- 24:50Speaker 1: know we're not doing wishes, but here's my wish. I
- 24:52Speaker 1: wish here they would have the listening to these long
- 24:58Speaker 1: audio recordings isn't cinematic, and I do wish we would
- 25:03Speaker 1: have had a little bit of a flashback of the
- 25:05Speaker 1: mom recording them or something to just make it visually richer.
- 25:09Speaker 1: We're sitting on like this you know, subway or tube
- 25:13Speaker 1: or whatever train, listening to everybody's like surrounded listening to
- 25:18Speaker 1: this tape. It's not it. I'm as a viewer having
- 25:23Speaker 1: a hard time following it. Yeah, I mean I didn't
- 25:27Speaker 1: find it hard to follow, but I do agree with
- 25:28Speaker 1: your point that it would be nice if we had
- 25:32Speaker 1: the mom or like even just a visual of her
- 25:34Speaker 1: recording this. Yeah, you know, I felt terrible for Annabel,
- 25:39Speaker 1: and then I felt terrible for Chelsea in these scenes here,
- 25:42Speaker 1: you know, Annabel the mom wants Annabel to go to
- 25:45Speaker 1: this bakery and have this whatever. It's a cheese shop,
- 25:50Speaker 1: but yeah, okay, and it's closed permanently. And if they
- 25:54Speaker 1: would have done it ten years before when they were
- 25:57Speaker 1: supposed to, she would have had this experience. And then
- 26:01Speaker 1: the message goes on about her being this great soccer
- 26:04Speaker 1: superstar and now we've known that, like she's had a
- 26:08Speaker 1: career ending injury, and you know, all this stuff could
- 26:12Speaker 1: have been said ten years ago, and Annabel is wrecked
- 26:15Speaker 1: about it and kind of pissed about it. Chelsea, to me,
- 26:22Speaker 1: feels guilt about it. Yes. Uh, it's a hard watch,
- 26:26Speaker 1: but it's done so well. So Annamel doesn't listen to
- 26:29Speaker 1: her whole She's like, I can't listen to this anymore.
- 26:32Speaker 1: And I'm curious, do you think there's a point at
- 26:35Speaker 1: which the rest of that voice message comes into play? Oh? Maybe,
- 26:41Speaker 1: because the thing that upsets her is she's like, I'm
- 26:44Speaker 1: not even this person anymore, Like, yeah, you know, this
- 26:47Speaker 1: person that she was so excited about and so proud
- 26:49Speaker 1: of doesn't even exist. And Chelsea makes the point like
- 26:52Speaker 1: it wasn't she was just proud of who you were
- 26:54Speaker 1: and who you were in this moment played soccer. But
- 26:58Speaker 1: just because that's not part of your life doesn't mean
- 26:59Speaker 1: she was like I take it all back. But of
- 27:02Speaker 1: course for Annabel, hearing her mom say those things after
- 27:06Speaker 1: the fact isn't helpful. So I wonder if there's an
- 27:10Speaker 1: end to that message that will help Annabel reconcile what
- 27:15Speaker 1: she's feeling. I hope, so now to that because you
- 27:19Speaker 1: know what happens. No, I don't, okay, I do not. Okay.
- 27:23Speaker 1: This goes along with Chelsea's voice memo which is listened
- 27:27Speaker 1: to at the Eiffel Tower about Chelsea being a romantic
- 27:31Speaker 1: and she always follows her heart and Annimel's like, get
- 27:33Speaker 1: out of here. Who's that? Like, I don't even know
- 27:36Speaker 1: who that person is. And so they're all, I think,
- 27:40Speaker 1: in some ways not living up to the promise and
- 27:44Speaker 1: dreams that her their mother had for them, and that's
- 27:48Speaker 1: a tough pill to swallow totally. And then of course
- 27:54Speaker 1: we get the dad's memo read in the park. Do
- 27:58Speaker 1: they even play it? They do? Right? Can they do? Yeah?
- 28:02Speaker 1: She's like I had a full life because of you,
- 28:05Speaker 1: because of my daughters. She basically tells them like, I
- 28:10Speaker 1: keep living, keep living. Yeah, And this is when he
- 28:14Speaker 1: tells them, like, you know, he's like I found love again.
- 28:19Speaker 1: And they're like, what do you mean love? It's only
- 28:21Speaker 1: been three months. And he's like, I'm gonna propose, and
- 28:23Speaker 1: Annabell knew, and Chelsea feels betrayed. And Chelsea walks off
- 28:28Speaker 1: because she's like, first of all, feeling left out because
- 28:30Speaker 1: she's like, it's the Dad and annabel show all over again,
- 28:33Speaker 1: because obviously Chelsea was more like her mom. Annabelle's more
- 28:36Speaker 1: like her dad. She's like the sports girl. But I
- 28:39Speaker 1: like that Annabel and Chelsea squashed their beef about this
- 28:43Speaker 1: very quickly. Yeah, Like Annabel finds Chelsea on the roof
- 28:47Speaker 1: an a robe, drinking wine straight out of the bottle.
- 28:49Speaker 1: This is one of the greatest scenes ever and so
- 28:53Speaker 1: not Hallmark, no drenking out of that wine bottle like that.
- 28:57Speaker 1: I loved it. She's like, I couldn't find a glass
- 28:59Speaker 1: and I love that they used to snap right into
- 29:03Speaker 1: sister mode because Annabel's like, I would have told you,
- 29:06Speaker 1: but he told me I couldn't. And then she wants
- 29:08Speaker 1: a Pink Park shaped diamond and Chelsea's like, it's nothing
- 29:12Speaker 1: like Mom. I don't understand. And I think, if you're
- 29:16Speaker 1: in this situation, do you really want your parent to
- 29:19Speaker 1: remarry someone just like the parent that has passed away,
- 29:25Speaker 1: Like you don't want to replacement, you would want Chelsea's
- 29:28Speaker 1: having a hard time. I get having a hard time
- 29:29Speaker 1: with it, but I just think it's like, oh, it's
- 29:31Speaker 1: nothing like Mom. I don't understand. Yeah, it's an interesting sentiment.
- 29:35Speaker 1: It is, it is. But this is what I loved
- 29:37Speaker 1: is like they apologize to each other, then they just
- 29:41Speaker 1: get right into sister mode like they're teasing, they're honest,
- 29:44Speaker 1: like it's all very lived in. Annabelle says this line
- 29:49Speaker 1: she's talking about grief or pain, and she's like, you
- 29:51Speaker 1: have to feel it if you want to heal. Like
- 29:54Speaker 1: so that's their like catalyst to for Chelsea to move forward.
- 29:58Speaker 1: I think I just love this scene so much. And
- 30:03Speaker 1: I don't you know, you probably know this, but Lacy
- 30:06Speaker 1: Shipara lost her sister. Her sister died a couple of
- 30:10Speaker 1: years ago, and I wonder how how this was for
- 30:14Speaker 1: her to film this scene here, or these sister scenes,
- 30:18Speaker 1: because the sister scenes are really good. Yeah, and I'm
- 30:21Speaker 1: just wondering, like is this is she how much is
- 30:25Speaker 1: she bringing like of real life into this, you know,
- 30:27Speaker 1: like how she agree with She's just really good, really good.
- 30:32Speaker 1: They're both really good in this all right, Now, let's
- 30:34Speaker 1: talk about the Jason Knightley slowburne of it all. It
- 30:38Speaker 1: piggybacks off the scene before when they're on their rooftop.
- 30:41Speaker 1: Annabel's like you owe me basically, so Chelsea takes her
- 30:45Speaker 1: out to dinner. They go out to dinner and they're
- 30:47Speaker 1: having like this like great you know, great conversation over
- 30:50Speaker 1: dinner or whatever, and then they decide to go dancing.
- 30:54Speaker 1: This is the scene where I think maybe you might
- 30:57Speaker 1: be It's very sexy without being it's sensual. Yeah, exactly.
- 31:03Speaker 1: So like we have like Annabelle and Lacey are dancing
- 31:07Speaker 1: and we don't really see annabel but like Lacey's like
- 31:09Speaker 1: lost in Lacey. Chelsea's lost in memory of the dude
- 31:14Speaker 1: that she once knew in Paris, right, and you know,
- 31:19Speaker 1: she like lets her hair down and she's like really
- 31:23Speaker 1: into it, and then like she sees Jason watching her,
- 31:30Speaker 1: which is almost like I would have died a little
- 31:34Speaker 1: bit inside. Of course, if you're having like this moment, right.
- 31:37Speaker 1: But Chelsea's like thinking about like the guy that she
- 31:41Speaker 1: knew from Paris, Like those scenes are feel very sensual
- 31:45Speaker 1: to you, and it's lighting. It's not even anything. It's
- 31:50Speaker 1: like a close up of her face, like their two
- 31:53Speaker 1: body emotion and have like they're glowy, like not sweaty,
- 31:57Speaker 1: but like the suggestion of sweat. Yeah, I mean it
- 32:02Speaker 1: was we talk about it. You know, you mentioned it
- 32:04Speaker 1: before in Providence Falls, where like the zipper scene or
- 32:09Speaker 1: the chair chair pulling scene, these are so nuanced, but
- 32:14Speaker 1: they really do something in the scene, and I thought
- 32:18Speaker 1: the way this was shot was was like that as well.
- 32:20Speaker 1: I agree. Then we see Jason comes over and he's like,
- 32:24Speaker 1: I didn't even like notice it was you, you know,
- 32:27Speaker 1: I ever have your hair down, blah blah blah whatever.
- 32:29Speaker 1: And it gets a little like testy between these two
- 32:33Speaker 1: a little, well a lot. She's like, first of all,
- 32:37Speaker 1: she snaps right into me and mommy mode and she
- 32:42Speaker 1: is like yeah, She's like you're infuriating and irresponsible, and
- 32:47Speaker 1: then she puts her hand on his chest and says,
- 32:50Speaker 1: you don't get to be lazy. And this is when
- 32:53Speaker 1: like the whole scene, just like and he says his yes, ma'am,
- 32:58Speaker 1: and oh, my god, is that Yeah? It's I I
- 33:04Speaker 1: rewound it because I'm like, am I did I just
- 33:06Speaker 1: see what I saw? Like? Am I taking it it
- 33:11Speaker 1: the way that it's supposed to be? Or am I
- 33:13Speaker 1: reading to my watched the episode twice and I think
- 33:15Speaker 1: you're taking it the way it's intended. Yeah, I mean
- 33:18Speaker 1: I loved it. And then the sister comes over and
- 33:20Speaker 1: she's like, we hate him, right, I Actually this kind
- 33:24Speaker 1: of hurt me a little bit because she's like, we
- 33:27Speaker 1: hate him, and Chelsea agrees, and he's like the feeling's mutual.
- 33:29Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, man, like accept Chelsea's giving
- 33:34Speaker 1: him sex eyes as he walks away, you know, and
- 33:37Speaker 1: Annabel's like, do we really hate him? But I kind
- 33:41Speaker 1: of was like, I understand that he's infuriating to her,
- 33:45Speaker 1: especially based on past action, because she sets him up
- 33:48Speaker 1: as this guy who, like you know, uses her for
- 33:50Speaker 1: her research and then takes credit and all of this.
- 33:53Speaker 1: But he hasn't really been acting in an infuriating way
- 33:57Speaker 1: to the outside observer. There's no reason to you assume
- 34:01Speaker 1: that he's not going to get the work done. She
- 34:03Speaker 1: just thinks he doesn't work as hard as she does
- 34:05Speaker 1: because he doesn't work the same way she does. So
- 34:09Speaker 1: I hate you of it. All that kind of hurts me. Well, all,
- 34:15Speaker 1: hopefully they'll rebound from that. I mean, I assume they will.
- 34:20Speaker 1: It's the next morning and Else's like scrolling through all
- 34:23Speaker 1: her old photos and has all these memories of all
- 34:25Speaker 1: the men of her trip. And then we learn that
- 34:27Speaker 1: Sophie has pushed their meeting and Chelsea's like so typical,
- 34:30Speaker 1: and she's like, well, time for a vacation, and she
- 34:34Speaker 1: asked Cenabel to come. They make nice with the dad,
- 34:37Speaker 1: Like dad shows up with coffee and he apologizes for
- 34:41Speaker 1: springing it on them. I kind of feel like the
- 34:43Speaker 1: girls owe him an apology, or at least Chelsea for
- 34:48Speaker 1: her reaction. But you know, he's like, I will always
- 34:52Speaker 1: love your mom, but I love Sherry too, and I
- 34:54Speaker 1: you know, he does deserve to continue living his life.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Chelsea doesn't even Rea act that though, she like, he
- 35:01Speaker 1: says like, all, I love Sherry too, and Chelsea doesn't
- 35:05Speaker 1: say anything, Yeah, she just says like we're gonna do
- 35:08Speaker 1: the mom thing, like yeah, she wanted me to go
- 35:11Speaker 1: back and revisit these guys, and we're going to go
- 35:13Speaker 1: do that. And so the closing scene is, you know,
- 35:17Speaker 1: she's voiceovering this is still her bridal sweet voice memo.
- 35:23Speaker 1: She like, I closed the door to my heart when
- 35:24Speaker 1: I came home from my last Europe trip, but I
- 35:27Speaker 1: came home with questions about my life and my loves.
- 35:30Speaker 1: And she and annabel are off to Ireland. Yeah, we
- 35:34Speaker 1: get like the tiniest bit of Ireland. I just like
- 35:38Speaker 1: setting it up of like who Colin is and but
- 35:42Speaker 1: it's just like a little bit of a cliffhanger for
- 35:46Speaker 1: the next episode, right. I love that she takes Annabelle
- 35:50Speaker 1: on this. Yes, with her, I'm again like I know
- 35:54Speaker 1: I've talked about the between them. Their scenes are so great. Yeah,
- 36:00Speaker 1: I cannot wait for episode two. How many episodes are there?
- 36:04Speaker 1: Six eight? It's only six, but I mean, let's not
- 36:08Speaker 1: drag it out. But it's so good it is. And
- 36:13Speaker 1: I just we cut back to the bridal suite at
- 36:14Speaker 1: the very end. Yes, and this is when it's very
- 36:17Speaker 1: clear that it's a bridal suite. There's a wedding dress
- 36:19Speaker 1: in the background. So the thing I notice is it's
- 36:22Speaker 1: very pink and we know that Sheerry wanted a pink diamond.
- 36:26Speaker 1: Oh yeah, But she's telling the story of her love
- 36:30Speaker 1: story and she's alone in this bridal suite, So I
- 36:34Speaker 1: don't know which direction we're going here, got it? Got it?
- 36:38Speaker 1: Here's my biggest surprise from the series. As much as
- 36:43Speaker 1: like I as I'm saying, like, I love the pace
- 36:46Speaker 1: of the dialogue, and I love the scenes with the
- 36:48Speaker 1: sister and the sexiness of it with Jason. It's much
- 36:53Speaker 1: heavier than I expected in terms of grief. Yeah, and
- 36:57Speaker 1: I applaud Hallmark for like diving into that. You know,
- 37:03Speaker 1: Ripple was supposed to be a Hallmark Plus show, right,
- 37:07Speaker 1: which was very centered on grief. I think this is
- 37:10Speaker 1: like a whiff of Ripple, you know what I mean,
- 37:14Speaker 1: But we get romance plus grief. I'm just it's much
- 37:20Speaker 1: more interesting than I thought it was going to be,
- 37:22Speaker 1: you know, I agree with you. And in the book
- 37:25Speaker 1: there's an additional storyline that we don't see developing yet,
- 37:28Speaker 1: and I'm not sure that we will. I think they've
- 37:30Speaker 1: swapped that for focusing more on the mom and the sister,
- 37:35Speaker 1: and it involves Aiden. I'm very excited to continue. We're
- 37:40Speaker 1: doing doubleheader episodes today, so both episode one and two
- 37:43Speaker 1: are available in the feed right now since they both
- 37:47Speaker 1: dropped on the same day, so you can give those
