- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to KFI AM 640, the Bill Handel Show
- 0:04Speaker 1: on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
- 0:15Speaker 2: And now, Handel on the News. Ladies and gentlemen, here's
- 0:19Speaker 2: Bill Handel.
- 0:22Speaker 1: KFI AM 640, Handel here and the morning crew. Three
- 0:27Speaker 1: weeks exactly to the day before the midterm comes along.
- 0:31Speaker 1: We hear a lot about politics over the next three weeks.
- 0:35Speaker 1: We're going to see what's going to happen. Is the
- 0:36Speaker 1: House going to flip? Almost certainly. Is the Senate going
- 0:38Speaker 1: to flip? Yeah, yeah, there's a decent chance. So we'll
- 0:43Speaker 1: talk about that and what's going on and the money
- 0:45Speaker 1: that's being spent and the response the president and the
- 0:47Speaker 1: Republicans have and what the Democrats are doing, all of that.
- 0:50Speaker 1: over the next couple of weeks. That really does affect
- 0:53Speaker 1: us big time. So before that, let me say a
- 0:56Speaker 1: quick hello to one and all. Neil, good morning. Good morning, buddy.
- 1:00Speaker 1: There is, oh, Willow, how you doing this morning? Good morning, Bill.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Is that a black sweatshirt of some kind?
- 1:08Speaker 2: It is.
- 1:09Speaker 1: It's a black kind of hoodie thing.
- 1:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I know.
- 1:12Speaker 1: You know, black tin makes you tend to look a
- 1:14Speaker 1: little thinner, although it's... I get it. Yeah, it doesn't
- 1:16Speaker 1: help here.
- 1:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:17Speaker 1: You know, it's just... No. No, it doesn't work. Yeah. Amy,
- 1:23Speaker 1: Dodger Blue. Yep. Keep in the face. There you are.
- 1:27Speaker 1: There you go. And there's Anne in Padre's sort of
- 1:31Speaker 1: purplish brown. No, not even close. Oh, okay. Well, it's
- 1:36Speaker 1: the camera. It's the camera that does it. Also, introduce Mario,
- 1:40Speaker 1: our new guy. Hello, hello. Good morning, everybody. Mario has
- 1:43Speaker 1: replaced Kono. Mario has now come onto the show as
- 1:48Speaker 1: our board operator. Temporarily, he's on Tuesday through Friday here.
- 1:55Speaker 1: because he also does handle on the law, but they're
- 1:57Speaker 1: looking for someone. I think they're looking at some people
- 2:00Speaker 1: that do handle on the law, which means Mario come
- 2:02Speaker 1: here Monday through Friday. A couple of things about Mario.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Mario decided he would forego the, the better paying and
- 2:13Speaker 1: the more advantageous job at a Taco Bell or Del Taco,
- 2:18Speaker 1: which Kono took. And so I just want to give Mario,
- 2:22Speaker 1: number one, a heads up. Number two, you have a
- 2:25Speaker 1: hell of a future here because you're going to go
- 2:26Speaker 1: from board op to board op and maybe be promoted
- 2:31Speaker 1: to board op a little bit later on at exactly
- 2:35Speaker 1: the same salary. And so.
- 2:37Speaker 3: We finally got enough money to afford a whole Mexican.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Yeah. yeah but hold on he also has to do
- 2:45Speaker 1: the lawns too that's included in the job description he
- 2:48Speaker 1: has to mow the lawns only on saturdays in front
- 2:51Speaker 1: of the building yeah.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Being a half breed i'll do the edging but.
- 2:55Speaker 1: There you go my goddaughter uh she was dating a
- 2:59Speaker 1: hispanic guy uh and she introduced me to him it
- 3:02Speaker 1: was at my house and so she introduces me to
- 3:06Speaker 1: him uh and It was Bill. I think his name
- 3:09Speaker 1: was Izzy, short for Isidore or whatever. So Bill, this
- 3:13Speaker 1: is Izzy. Izzy, this is Bill. I threw him my
- 3:16Speaker 1: car keys and said, here, take care of my car.
- 3:18Speaker 1: It's out in front. And he threw you his taxes. Yeah, well,
- 3:24Speaker 1: it turned out the guy made about $ 150, 000 a year
- 3:27Speaker 1: in the world of computers. So he thought it was
- 3:30Speaker 1: very funny. And we got along great after that. Although
- 3:35Speaker 1: I have to tell you, every time he saw a
- 3:38Speaker 1: truck with a lawnmower on the bed of the pickup truck,
- 3:43Speaker 1: he got an erection. I noticed that. Okay.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Yeah, you can usually notice them.
- 3:49Speaker 1: He's the only one that laughed. You can usually notice
- 3:52Speaker 1: them on other men. This is why Will is on
- 3:54Speaker 1: this show. Because he's the only one that laughs. Okay, man,
- 4:02Speaker 1: a lot going on today. As usual, we do not
- 4:05Speaker 1: have small news days anymore. New White House press secretary
- 4:10Speaker 1: this morning in a very unusual move, and we weren't
- 4:13Speaker 1: expecting this, a blonde who is in her 30s. replacing
- 4:18Speaker 1: a blonde who is in her 30s. And there's also
- 4:22Speaker 1: a fair amount of baggage with this one, too, which
- 4:24Speaker 1: we'll describe later on. Some conspiracy stuff, or at least
- 4:28Speaker 1: the allegation is there, is what I'm hearing. All right, guys,
- 4:31Speaker 1: are you ready to do it? Whee!
- 4:33Speaker 3: Sure. Whee! Let's go.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Yeah, whee. Thank you very much for that. Amy, before
- 4:39Speaker 1: we do it, quick, weather-wise. Yesterday it was drizzling, and
- 4:44Speaker 1: I was out for my walk, and today, what's happening?
- 4:47Speaker 4: It's going to be a perfect fall day, like sunny
- 4:49Speaker 4: skies and cool temperatures, highs in the low 70s.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Yeah, in the meantime, for those people that live along
- 4:56Speaker 1: the Orange... Orange County coastline, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, et cetera.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Long Beach as well.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Long Beach is no longer long. Plenty of beach, but
- 5:07Speaker 1: it's halfway into your house. The waterline, that's a tough one.
- 5:11Speaker 1: You know, I've been looking at these pictures. Oh, did
- 5:13Speaker 1: you see the video of that neighborhood in New Jersey
- 5:18Speaker 1: where the shark is swimming down the middle of the street?
- 5:23Speaker 3: No.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Oh, God. You have to look at that. Literally. Now,
- 5:26Speaker 1: is that normal in Jersey? Well, it's literally the street
- 5:31Speaker 1: is flooded. You have houses on both sides and there's
- 5:33Speaker 1: a shark going down the middle. Now, I don't know
- 5:35Speaker 1: if that's a hoax. I don't know if that's real
- 5:36Speaker 1: or not. But it was pretty impressive.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Was it a baby shark?
- 5:42Speaker 1: No, no, no. It was at least a teenage shark, shark, shark, shark.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Daddy shark. Grandpa shark. Yeah. We use that on the
- 5:53Speaker 1: Handel show, on the Saturday show. Whenever I can't get
- 5:55Speaker 1: phone calls, I will say, okay, you guys get to
- 5:58Speaker 1: listen to this for a while. And in the fall,
- 6:01Speaker 1: then the calls explode.
- 6:02Speaker 4: It was a small, smooth dogfish shark.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Hmm. Oh, and there it is. Small, smooth dogfish. Yeah,
- 6:10Speaker 1: it's a dogfish shark. I have never heard it regarded
- 6:15Speaker 1: as that. A dogfish? And I'm not talking about sharks either. What?
- 6:19Speaker 3: Yeah, you can tell because it stops at the fire
- 6:21Speaker 3: hydrant and lifts its fin.
- 6:23Speaker 1: That's actually very funny.
- 6:25Speaker 3: No, it's not.
- 6:25Speaker 1: That's actually not bad. I have to tell you. I
- 6:27Speaker 1: have to give you credit for that. Of course it's horrible,
- 6:30Speaker 1: but I thought it was very funny.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Ann is my barometer. And she shook her head.
- 6:36Speaker 1: It's not funny. All right, guys, ready to do it?
- 6:38Speaker 1: It is time for Handle on the News on this
- 6:43Speaker 1: Tuesday morning, October 13th. Amy, Neil, and me. Lead story. Yeah,
- 6:51Speaker 1: Houthis are going crazy. They just attacked Saudi Arabia, the capital, Riyadh,
- 6:56Speaker 1: and the airport for a third day in a row.
- 6:59Speaker 1: And man, that puts Saudi Arabia in a very unfortunate position.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Because Saudi Arabia has portrayed itself as the very safe,
- 7:10Speaker 1: very pro-business, very pro-Western government, which it is. And all
- 7:15Speaker 1: of a sudden, this is up in the air. Flights
- 7:17Speaker 1: are stopped. The airports are closed. And now you have
- 7:20Speaker 1: President Trump. What the hell does he do? Because Saudi
- 7:24Speaker 1: Arabia is a staunch ally of the United States. Does
- 7:27Speaker 1: he come in to aid Saudi? Because it's in a
- 7:30Speaker 1: lot of trouble relative to the Houthis. Houthis are gaining
- 7:33Speaker 1: tremendous strength. And what does the president do? You talk
- 7:38Speaker 1: about being between a rock and a hard place. Man,
- 7:40Speaker 1: does he help? Does he not? Does he engage in
- 7:43Speaker 1: yet another front of the war? So we'll no doubt
- 7:46Speaker 1: be talking about that. And then the issue over the
- 7:49Speaker 1: Russia diesel deal, which we'll talk about at 7 o'clock.
- 7:55Speaker 4: Goliath may be the next to go. Six Flags closed
- 7:59Speaker 4: its X2 roller coaster last month at Magic Mountain. because
- 8:04Speaker 4: of the traumatic brain injuries allegedly suffered by several riders
- 8:08Speaker 4: and even a death. Well, now a person has been
- 8:11Speaker 4: killed on a roller coaster at Six Flags over Georgia. Apparently,
- 8:17Speaker 4: he was ejected from the roller coaster. And then everybody
- 8:22Speaker 4: who was on the roller coaster, they had to do
- 8:24Speaker 4: an emergency evacuation, so they stopped it mid-ride. And now
- 8:28Speaker 4: the Goliath is closed in Georgia, but it's also been
- 8:31Speaker 4: closed at other parks across the country. including at Magic Mountain.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Yeah, and we're not getting a lot of information on
- 8:37Speaker 1: this either, exactly what happened. I mean, it looks like
- 8:41Speaker 1: the kid who died was thrown from the car. And
- 8:46Speaker 1: how do you get thrown from a car? Because once
- 8:48Speaker 1: you're locked down, I don't even think you can open
- 8:49Speaker 1: them up, can you, while the ride is— You'd assume not.
- 8:53Speaker 4: Well, that would be the interesting part. Did something in
- 8:55Speaker 4: the mechanism that secured him fail? Or did he not
- 8:59Speaker 4: secure it properly? Was he not checked properly?
- 9:02Speaker 1: Also— There's so many things that could have gone wrong.
- 9:03Speaker 1: I mean, you'd think there was a whiplash if it
- 9:06Speaker 1: stopped very suddenly with these other riders also suffering injuries
- 9:10Speaker 1: who weren't tossed. So those roller coaster rides— I mean,
- 9:15Speaker 1: I love roller coaster rides, but at the same time,
- 9:19Speaker 1: you know, the one that scares me the most is
- 9:21Speaker 1: the one at Disneyland. Which one? Space Mountain? Yeah, the
- 9:27Speaker 1: one in the dark. Because, man, you never know where
- 9:30Speaker 1: you're going, and I'm convinced that I'm going to fly off,
- 9:32Speaker 1: and my head is going to hit one of those
- 9:34Speaker 1: steel girders. That's all I think about, that an earthquake
- 9:37Speaker 1: is going to come, and my head goes right into
- 9:41Speaker 1: a steel girder and comes popping off. That's how I
- 9:44Speaker 1: enjoy that ride, because that's all I think about when
- 9:48Speaker 1: I'm riding it.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Couldn't we just fill your head back up with helium?
- 9:51Speaker 1: We could. Great. okay one dad what.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Federal agents monday uh went into the minnesota congressman congresswoman's
- 10:02Speaker 3: home by the way searched the home of democratic u.s
- 10:05Speaker 3: representative uh omar and started escalation of a criminal investigation
- 10:12Speaker 3: and uh right before uh re-election.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Yeah, and usually they don't within 60 days of an election, but,
- 10:19Speaker 1: you know, the new— They have. They did with Trump.
- 10:21Speaker 1: They did with— Yeah, the policies— I said usually they don't. Hillary, too, right? Yeah,
- 10:26Speaker 1: usually they don't is the point. Hillary was a big one.
- 10:30Speaker 1: That includes Democrats as well as Republicans. But this has
- 10:34Speaker 1: to do with something wrong with her immigration status because
- 10:38Speaker 1: she came over. She was born in Somalia, became a U.S.
- 10:41Speaker 1: citizen in 2005— And now they are saying there's something
- 10:46Speaker 1: wrong with their immigration status. Well, I find it kind
- 10:49Speaker 1: of a coincidence. Don't you? Three weeks before the election,
- 10:53Speaker 1: you have a search FBI search of her home. We
- 10:58Speaker 1: don't have any idea what it is other than the
- 11:02Speaker 1: State Department. I think Homeland Security says it has to
- 11:05Speaker 1: do with an immigration violation. We don't know what that's about.
- 11:09Speaker 1: So we'll see. If there's any kind of a pattern here,
- 11:13Speaker 1: that's going to disappear very quickly. All of a sudden,
- 11:15Speaker 1: there'll be nothing there. Like with Comey, like with Letitia James,
- 11:18Speaker 1: like with the guy who put his hands into the
- 11:22Speaker 1: reflecting pool and damaged the pool. And he put his hands,
- 11:25Speaker 1: according to Janine Perino, he put his hands forcibly into
- 11:32Speaker 1: that reflecting pool violently. What happens if there is a
- 11:36Speaker 1: there there? Then you wonder, why do they wait?
- 11:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:39Speaker 1: You know, why do they wait? Because all of a sudden,
- 11:42Speaker 1: from going back to 2005, that had just come up now.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Oh, it seems a little desperate.
- 11:47Speaker 1: So that's that's the issue. It's not whether or not
- 11:51Speaker 1: there's legitimacy and there might be. But it's come on.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Let's look at the timing, guys.
- 11:56Speaker 2: You're listening to Bill Handel on demand from KFI AM 640.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Handel on the news with Amy, Neil and me. And
- 12:07Speaker 1: I have a joke for you. What's so funny about
- 12:12Speaker 1: cannabis and tobacco retailers that makes all of us laugh?
- 12:16Speaker 3: Oh, boy.
- 12:17Speaker 4: Well, I was just going to say this is no
- 12:19Speaker 4: laughing matter.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Well, there you go.
- 12:21Speaker 4: City Council in L.A. has unanimously approved a measure to
- 12:24Speaker 4: prohibit the sale and distribution of nitrous oxide by cannabis
- 12:30Speaker 4: and tobacco retailers. Mayor Bass plans to sign it into law.
- 12:35Speaker 4: She says this is a public health and public safety issue.
- 12:39Speaker 4: Nitrous oxide is dangerous, especially in the hands of kids
- 12:43Speaker 4: and far too accessible.
- 12:45Speaker 1: I didn't even know you could buy it. Yeah, you
- 12:47Speaker 1: can buy nitrous. Yeah, it looks like it's sold at
- 12:51Speaker 1: gas stations.
- 12:53Speaker 3: I saw some kids huffing the other day and I'd
- 12:55Speaker 3: not seen that on my street out of balloons. Up
- 12:58Speaker 3: to the top of like six kids.
- 13:01Speaker 4: Were they huffing or are they just doing helium?
- 13:03Speaker 1: They were huffing and puffing.
- 13:04Speaker 3: No, I'm pretty sure they're not gathering around and hiding
- 13:07Speaker 3: to do helium.
- 13:08Speaker 1: And they're trying to blow Neil's house down.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Huff and puff?
- 13:12Speaker 1: Yeah, huff and puff.
- 13:13Speaker 3: You know, we got so wrapped up with the Skydance merger,
- 13:16Speaker 3: we had forgotten there had been other ones as well.
- 13:19Speaker 3: You had supermarket chain Albertsons talking about merging with Kroger. Now,
- 13:26Speaker 3: since that fell through, it wants $ 8 billion after their
- 13:32Speaker 3: mega deal imploded about two years ago. So Albertsons is
- 13:35Speaker 3: accusing Kroger leaders of making lowball offers to federal regulators
- 13:42Speaker 3: to largely keep the most profitable stores in the combined
- 13:47Speaker 3: company and kind of shove off the weaker performance ones.
- 13:52Speaker 3: So this was filed yesterday.
- 13:54Speaker 1: My question is, according to their agreement, Albertsons and Kroger,
- 13:58Speaker 1: Kroger to buy Albertsons, the breakup fee was $ 600 million,
- 14:03Speaker 1: which happens all the time. We're entering negotiations. You want
- 14:07Speaker 1: to buy my company. If it doesn't go through, you
- 14:10Speaker 1: owe me X dollars. That would have happened with Skydance
- 14:13Speaker 1: and Warner Brothers. How does that not get abused, though? Well,
- 14:17Speaker 1: you know what? I don't understand how somehow $ 600 million
- 14:20Speaker 1: becomes $ 9. 3 billion. And that's obviously it's really, really complicated stuff.
- 14:28Speaker 1: But it looks like Albertsons is reaching for the moon
- 14:31Speaker 1: on this one and and accusing Kroger of all kinds
- 14:36Speaker 1: of misdeeds.
- 14:38Speaker 4: Speaking of millions, this company is going to hand over
- 14:42Speaker 4: more than 100 million to make it right. So remember
- 14:45Speaker 4: back in May when that aerospace company. And Garden Grove
- 14:52Speaker 4: had the chemical tank that was going to possibly explode.
- 14:57Speaker 4: It's GKN Aerospace. And because of that, more than 50,000
- 15:02Speaker 4: residents had to get out of the neighborhoods. And the
- 15:06Speaker 4: inconvenience caused is going to cost GKN Aerospace a pretty penny.
- 15:11Speaker 4: A $ 125 million settlement has been agreed to with Orange
- 15:15Speaker 4: County prosecutors.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Yeah. Now, we don't know how much of that insurance is.
- 15:20Speaker 1: is covering that $ 125 million because companies like this, every
- 15:24Speaker 1: company like this has an insurance policy and then a
- 15:27Speaker 1: reinsurance policy behind that. So I don't know what their
- 15:32Speaker 1: deductible is. There are cities that have and counties that
- 15:35Speaker 1: have insurance. They pay for insurance. So we don't know
- 15:39Speaker 1: how much actual out-of-pocket, but either way, $ 125 million. And
- 15:44Speaker 1: it's probably an agreement between both the insurers and the
- 15:48Speaker 1: company itself to pay up the $ 125 million. It's a chunk.
- 15:52Speaker 1: And we're talking about people who were gone for evacuated
- 15:57Speaker 1: for just days.
- 15:58Speaker 4: And it was, remember it was over Memorial day weekend.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. It seems pretty stiff, but no, I mean,
- 16:05Speaker 1: you can be really inconvenienced a big time. Okay. I
- 16:10Speaker 1: think we have time for at least one more before
- 16:12Speaker 1: our break.
- 16:13Speaker 3: The Blair Bitch Project. Selma Blair charged with assault. Oh,
- 16:16Speaker 3: that's very strong. Well, let me look at Anne.
- 16:20Speaker 1: I like that.
- 16:21Speaker 3: No. No response.
- 16:23Speaker 1: She doesn't like that. Okay, moving on.
- 16:25Speaker 3: Charged with assault. And apparently it's not the first time
- 16:28Speaker 3: she's bitten anyone. So actress Selma Blair has been charged
- 16:32Speaker 3: with two counts of second degree assault after an alleged
- 16:36Speaker 3: incident during which a flight attendant and others were injured
- 16:41Speaker 3: aboard a commercial flight from Los Angeles to New York
- 16:43Speaker 3: City on Sunday night. Blair, who did not enter a plea,
- 16:48Speaker 3: appeared in court Monday evening wearing blue jeans, light gray hoodie,
- 16:51Speaker 3: who cares, pulled up to her elbows, sweatshirt, and blah, blah, blah.
- 16:56Speaker 3: But apparently they say she tried to open the door
- 17:02Speaker 3: to the airplane and then bit and maybe even hit.
- 17:07Speaker 1: A steward eye.
- 17:10Speaker 3: And it also she has mentioned that she's bit some celebrities,
- 17:15Speaker 3: bitten some celebrities in her book. It's something strange. You
- 17:20Speaker 3: can't really blame it on MS.
- 17:22Speaker 1: I don't think it's MS. I think it's cerebral palsy.
- 17:25Speaker 4: No, it's MS.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Oh, it is MS. And so she takes a lot
- 17:28Speaker 1: of medication.
- 17:29Speaker 4: And her lawyer says she's missed it.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Yeah, so we'll see. But she has a little bit
- 17:35Speaker 1: of history. She's very public with her MS, too.
- 17:38Speaker 3: I don't remember Christina Applegate biting anybody or trying to
- 17:42Speaker 3: open doors or anybody else for that matter.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, she's got some issues.
- 17:47Speaker 3: Yeah, she does. It sounds like your next wife.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. I just thought that one through. You know what?
- 18:02Speaker 1: All right. Let's go ahead and take a break and
- 18:08Speaker 1: we'll come back and go on with Handel on the news.
- 18:12Speaker 2: You're listening to Bill Handel on demand from KFI AM 640.
- 18:18Speaker 1: We continue with Handel on the news. Amy, Neil and me.
- 18:23Speaker 4: Cut it out or else. The top U.S. and NATO
- 18:26Speaker 4: military commander in Europe. has promised wide-scale measures to thwart
- 18:31Speaker 4: any Russian attack on Europe, but also delivered a different
- 18:36Speaker 4: kind of message behind the scenes, warning Ukraine to stop
- 18:39Speaker 4: attacking Russian refineries or risk getting cut off from critical U.S.
- 18:43Speaker 4: weapons and intelligence.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Yeah, so you're getting two messages here. One, Russia, you
- 18:50Speaker 1: better stop it. And the other one, Kiev, you better
- 18:54Speaker 1: stop it. And did you notice that it's only the facilities,
- 19:00Speaker 1: the oil, the gas, diesel facilities that are being held
- 19:07Speaker 1: up to, they got to stop it. They have to
- 19:10Speaker 1: stop the attacks because of the world energy crisis. Well,
- 19:14Speaker 1: the world energy fiasco that's going on right now. And
- 19:17Speaker 1: this goes to what the president is doing and is
- 19:20Speaker 1: not doing. And it's just it's a god awful mess.
- 19:22Speaker 1: I tell you, this war was not such a good idea,
- 19:25Speaker 1: even though initially I backed it up. I've got to
- 19:28Speaker 1: tell you, in retrospect, I'm going, ah, this was not
- 19:32Speaker 1: such a good idea. It really wasn't.
- 19:34Speaker 3: Well, you can you can agree with the premise and
- 19:39Speaker 3: disagree with the execution.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Yeah. Without thinking it through.
- 19:42Speaker 3: Seems to be. Trump's not great with execution.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Right.
- 19:47Speaker 1: And his premise, making sure that Iran does not have
- 19:51Speaker 1: a nuclear weapon, that's solid. But how you get there
- 19:55Speaker 1: and getting allies and even telling Congress, all of a
- 20:01Speaker 1: sudden you wake up one day and we're at war.
- 20:04Speaker 1: But that is we'll talk a lot about that and
- 20:06Speaker 1: the presidential power and what's going on in the United
- 20:09Speaker 1: States with the Republican senators. All right. Moving on. OK.
- 20:14Speaker 3: George Washington chopped down a cherry tree. Trump's going to
- 20:18Speaker 3: outdo that and chop down 500 trees at the East
- 20:22Speaker 3: Potomac golf links. He started back on Friday afternoon and
- 20:27Speaker 3: apparently a judge has now stepped in and said that
- 20:31Speaker 3: she was furious that. with the Justice Department lawyers for
- 20:34Speaker 3: their conduct in this lawsuit seeking to halt the Trump
- 20:38Speaker 3: administration takeover of this historic golf course there in Washington,
- 20:42Speaker 3: and that it was inexcusable that hundreds of trees were
- 20:45Speaker 3: removed from the course over the weekend.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Yeah, now this belies a very interesting and I think
- 20:52Speaker 1: a big problem. And that is when the Trump administration
- 20:55Speaker 1: wants to do something, it doesn't matter what the court says.
- 20:58Speaker 1: They just move ahead with it. The court says you
- 21:00Speaker 1: can't do it. Trump says, fine, you can't do it
- 21:02Speaker 1: and does it. What's the purpose of all that? I mean,
- 21:06Speaker 1: 500 trees. Because he wants to redo everything in his
- 21:08Speaker 1: image because he has an idea of which way it
- 21:11Speaker 1: should go. And notwithstanding any law or policy or procedural issue,
- 21:17Speaker 1: he just goes ahead and does it. And here's the problem.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Who can stop him? Nobody, because the court has no
- 21:23Speaker 1: enforcing powers whatsoever. Do you know who enforces federal judgments
- 21:28Speaker 1: and federal orders? Department of Justice. That's who does it.
- 21:32Speaker 1: And when the president says, I want those trees knocked
- 21:35Speaker 1: down and the argument is, but what is that? You
- 21:37Speaker 1: don't have the right to do that. You go to
- 21:38Speaker 1: court and the court says, you don't have a right
- 21:40Speaker 1: to do that. You can't do it. And he just
- 21:42Speaker 1: smiles and goes, OK, and goes ahead and does it.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Now what? And that is the problem. This is a
- 21:49Speaker 1: president who believes that all decision making powers lie with him.
- 21:56Speaker 1: There is no such thing as congressional power. There's only
- 22:00Speaker 1: congressional rubber stamping. And don't even bother with the rubber stamping.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Why?
- 22:05Speaker 1: Just go ahead and do it. So that is the
- 22:08Speaker 1: problem we're going to have big time by the time
- 22:10Speaker 1: the election moves forward. What is going to happen? And
- 22:16Speaker 1: I'm hoping that the president up to this point, for
- 22:18Speaker 1: the most part, has paid attention to the courts. In
- 22:22Speaker 1: small measures, relatively small measures, for example, building that east
- 22:26Speaker 1: wing with the big, beautiful ballroom, didn't matter what the
- 22:29Speaker 1: court said. Even when the court said you can't do
- 22:32Speaker 1: it because you didn't go through the proper procedures, he goes,
- 22:35Speaker 1: I don't care, and goes ahead and does it. That's
- 22:37Speaker 1: what happened here. Okay, let's go ahead and move on.
- 22:43Speaker 4: Shohei could be sitting the next one out.
- 22:46Speaker 1: The L.A.
- 22:47Speaker 4: Dodgers are heading back to Los Angeles for Game 3
- 22:51Speaker 4: against the Brewers in the National League Championship Series, and
- 22:54Speaker 4: they're down 2-0. The Brewers are leading the best of
- 22:58Speaker 4: seven series. And Shohei Otani, God love him, has not
- 23:01Speaker 4: really been performing. He went 0-4 in the cleanup spot
- 23:05Speaker 4: in Game 2, bringing his postseason total to just three hits,
- 23:08Speaker 4: all singles, in 20 at-bats. You can see he's struggling.
- 23:12Speaker 1: We've been talking about it.
- 23:14Speaker 4: Why not just sit him out?
- 23:15Speaker 1: Well, as the analysts are trying to figure out what's
- 23:17Speaker 1: going on, it looks like the story is going to
- 23:21Speaker 1: turn out to be just bad sushi.
- 23:24Speaker 3: You are so talented at taking a non-racist story and
- 23:29Speaker 3: making it racist. Good for you, buddy.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Thank you. I appreciate that. I thought you were going to.
- 23:34Speaker 3: Go towards how expensive that seat is. I will.
- 23:38Speaker 1: I take all of that as a compliment, by the way.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Thank you so much. I appreciate it. Why don't we
- 23:43Speaker 1: do this? Why don't we take a break? And then
- 23:45Speaker 1: when we come back, we'll finish up the news.
- 23:49Speaker 2: You're listening to Bill Handel on demand from KFI AM 640.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Our new guy, Mario at the board.com. Kono has left
- 24:03Speaker 1: us for greener pastures. Mario, on the other hand. Mario,
- 24:07Speaker 1: what's your last name? Arvizu. Arvizu. Hispanic, I guess, of
- 24:11Speaker 1: some kind? Some kind of Hispanic, yes. Something like that. Yeah,
- 24:15Speaker 1: I was wondering because he came in with a blue
- 24:17Speaker 1: shirt and his name right over the pocket. Go ahead.
- 24:24Speaker 3: Okay. The red rag in his back.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Yeah, all of it. Go ahead. I'm watching the new
- 24:30Speaker 1: press secretary, White House press secretary, Katie Zachariah. And I
- 24:36Speaker 1: got to tell you, she's no Carolyn Leavitt. No matter
- 24:39Speaker 1: what you say about Carolyn Leavitt, as crazy as I
- 24:42Speaker 1: thought she was, she was a great communicator, very strong
- 24:46Speaker 1: on her feet. This one, I got to tell you,
- 24:48Speaker 1: there's some big issues going on. She's reading off of
- 24:50Speaker 1: a script and doing a horrible job. And it's just, yeah,
- 24:56Speaker 1: it's night and day, the difference with Carolyn Leavitt and her.
- 25:00Speaker 1: I'm offended by her eyebrows, too. Yeah, yeah.
- 25:03Speaker 3: I know.
- 25:04Speaker 1: And that natural blonde hair. Let me ask you something,
- 25:08Speaker 1: you ladies there. How difficult is it to dye your
- 25:12Speaker 1: roots and getting it somehow covering up your natural blonde
- 25:16Speaker 1: hair with the Roots Dark? Doesn't that take some real doing? Okay,
- 25:21Speaker 1: never mind.
- 25:22Speaker 3: First of all, I'm offended you only asked the women.
- 25:24Speaker 3: You think this is my natural color?
- 25:27Speaker 1: No, I know it isn't. I know we're talking about
- 25:29Speaker 1: his goatee or go-to.
- 25:31Speaker 3: I don't wake up this way.
- 25:32Speaker 1: I'm blonde. It's work. Yeah, you're blonde. I am. That's right.
- 25:37Speaker 1: He is blonde. Yeah, he is blonde. Your hair, your hairline,
- 25:41Speaker 1: your head is that pasty white. Okay, let's move on
- 25:45Speaker 1: and actually finish up. Handle on the news on this
- 25:49Speaker 1: Tuesday morning, October 13th. Amy, Neil, and me. Neil and me.
- 25:54Speaker 3: Jason, our very own Jason Nathanson was out yesterday. Record-breaking
- 25:59Speaker 3: hurricane activity there in the Pacific Ocean battering the California
- 26:03Speaker 3: coast and just absolutely horrendous. I know we saw less
- 26:08Speaker 3: rain in some areas than we thought we were going to,
- 26:10Speaker 3: but our coastline took a beating um the season of
- 26:14Speaker 3: tropical storms is hurricanes record-breaking energy in the pacific ocean
- 26:20Speaker 3: ocean now here in southern california on our coastline and
- 26:24Speaker 3: regardless of the amount of rain you got in your
- 26:27Speaker 3: specific area or not you can't help but see the
- 26:31Speaker 3: damage uh that has changed long beach orange county and
- 26:37Speaker 3: um as handle was saying yesterday lindsey his wife grow
- 26:41Speaker 3: up on these beaches and can see firsthand the changes
- 26:44Speaker 3: going on there.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:45Speaker 1: She knows every single building that is no longer there
- 26:50Speaker 1: or no longer able to be there, even if it is.
- 26:54Speaker 1: I mean, red tag, gone, destroyed almost.
- 26:57Speaker 4: Sitting this one out. At least they hope so. Archbishop
- 26:59Speaker 4: Timothy Broglio oversees the Catholic Church's pastoral services to Catholics
- 27:05Speaker 4: in the U.S. military. And he has said that any
- 27:08Speaker 4: Catholic soldier assigned to the U.S. Army firing squad should
- 27:12Speaker 4: be asked to be excused from that duty. He says
- 27:16Speaker 4: it's contrary to the teachings of the church. Of course,
- 27:19Speaker 4: Nadel Hassan, who killed 13 people at Fort Hood, Texas
- 27:25Speaker 4: in 2009, is scheduled to be executed by firing squad
- 27:28Speaker 4: on December 3rd. And Bruglio says the crime committed by
- 27:33Speaker 4: Hassan was heinous. but does exposing the public to his
- 27:36Speaker 4: execution serve any purpose?
- 27:38Speaker 1: Yeah, more of a political religious statement, uh, because I'm, I,
- 27:42Speaker 1: and I, I'm just guessing though, uh, it's going to
- 27:44Speaker 1: be volunteers who do that. Now the problem is, uh,
- 27:48Speaker 1: is that how the vetting of 300,000 volunteers, how do
- 27:52Speaker 1: they go through that? You know what?
- 27:55Speaker 3: It is a little strange, God bless them, but it
- 27:58Speaker 3: is a little strange, uh, coming from someone who, uh,
- 28:02Speaker 3: is surrounded by the effigy of someone being executed. The
- 28:07Speaker 3: Corpus Christi is Christ being executed on a cross.
- 28:11Speaker 1: Yeah, but at the same time, the Roman soldiers who
- 28:17Speaker 1: did execute him, they weren't following many christian uh many christian.
- 28:23Speaker 3: Christ says it was okay told him not to stop
- 28:25Speaker 3: it i don't know i'm just saying just saying all
- 28:28Speaker 3: right um all right california scientist uh almost poisoned to
- 28:33Speaker 3: death man this did you see this video spy cam
- 28:36Speaker 3: set up northern california woman who says she nearly died
- 28:40Speaker 3: after being repeatedly poisoned by a co-worker and she's not
- 28:45Speaker 3: even in radio she's publicly releasing disturbing well come on
- 28:50Speaker 3: There's a couple of times, man, you know, and wasn't
- 28:52Speaker 3: thrilled with me that I smelled my drink before I
- 28:55Speaker 3: took a sip.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Look at her just grinning. Yeah.
- 28:58Speaker 4: Oh, no.
- 28:59Speaker 3: She's a devious one coming in with. Oh, everything's fine.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Drink up.
- 29:05Speaker 3: So apparently this is, you know, it was severe, obviously,
- 29:11Speaker 3: the allegations and everything. But this guy avoided prison. through
- 29:15Speaker 3: a plea agreement. You know, back in the day, wasn't
- 29:18Speaker 3: it mostly women who did the poisoning?
- 29:20Speaker 1: Yeah, it's true. Arsenic and old lace, that sort of thing.
- 29:25Speaker 1: All right, guys, we are done. Just the last story,
- 29:29Speaker 1: just a quick note that various hotel owners are not
- 29:38Speaker 1: happy with what happened with the World Cup. The hype
- 29:41Speaker 1: wasn't very good. It's very religious. My cup did not
- 29:44Speaker 1: runneth over. It just wasn't Didn't pan out, did not
- 29:49Speaker 1: pan out, and they did not gain a lot of business,
- 29:51Speaker 1: in some cases lost. Okay, we are done. Coming up,
- 29:55Speaker 1: the president picks a political fight, but it's with Republican senators,
- 30:00Speaker 1: his own party. And that says a lot. And we'll
- 30:03Speaker 1: talk about what? Because there's a lot of backlash going
- 30:06Speaker 1: on this way. And we'll be back. This is KFI
- 30:09Speaker 1: AM 640. You've been listening to The Bill Handel Show.
- 30:13Speaker 1: Catch my show Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
- 30:16Speaker 1: and anytime on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
