- 0:05Speaker 1: And go Mike, Mike over here. Obviously.
- 0:09Speaker 2: You know, I feel like for the last several years,
- 0:12Speaker 2: you know, we've been building up this that one fight
- 0:14Speaker 2: that you didn't get with Connor, and then the Charles
- 0:16Speaker 2: fight was the rematch. So it's been a while since
- 0:18Speaker 2: we've talked to you before you've been ready to face
- 0:21Speaker 2: the new guy on fight week. So I guess when
- 0:23Speaker 2: they came to you with Patty. Patty said he knew
- 0:25Speaker 2: that this fight was happening back in December, and it
- 0:28Speaker 2: maybe was on you. Maybe you didn't want to get back.
- 0:30Speaker 1: In right away.
- 0:31Speaker 2: So I guess what went through your mind when they
- 0:33Speaker 2: gave you Patty, And then I guess how long quickly
- 0:36Speaker 2: did it take you to sign that contract.
- 0:38Speaker 3: I'm a guy who is not afraid to take risks
- 0:41Speaker 3: and brave the unknown and do ill advised things to
- 0:45Speaker 3: the masses at times.
- 0:47Speaker 1: But I also am a man of my word.
- 0:49Speaker 3: So when the UFC approached me about it, the answer
- 0:52Speaker 3: was yes, I just don't know timeline wise. I had
- 0:56Speaker 3: some injuries I needed to take care of clean up
- 0:58Speaker 3: after the Charles fight. That was a tough battle for
- 1:02Speaker 3: a couple of months, but I wanted to make sure
- 1:05Speaker 3: that I was going to be able to make the
- 1:07Speaker 3: timeline for the UFC. You know, we talked about June,
- 1:10Speaker 3: we talked about April, and then ultimately, you know, it
- 1:14Speaker 3: came down to, hey, I'm ready to just jump back
- 1:16Speaker 3: in there. I'm healthy, I'm ready, and I had bad
- 1:21Speaker 3: taste in my mouth from that last fight with Charles.
- 1:23Speaker 3: I felt like I was about to have the best
- 1:26Speaker 3: performance of my life, and you know, had a little
- 1:29Speaker 3: thing happened to me in the inside the octagon which
- 1:31Speaker 3: changed the entire thing. So now we're back, We're ready.
- 1:34Speaker 3: We've had a phenomenal training camp and it was ready
- 1:37Speaker 3: to roll. And I'm glad I made that decision. I
- 1:38Speaker 3: just had a daughter born a couple of days ago,
- 1:40Speaker 3: so I got some extra motivation. Gotta go out there
- 1:43Speaker 3: and get my hand raised, finish Patty Pimblet in spectacular fashion,
- 1:46Speaker 3: and go home and be the dad to three children.
- 1:48Speaker 3: So first daughter, first daughter, man, first daughter, little Drew,
- 1:52Speaker 3: little Drew d r U, three letters, one syllable, just
- 1:56Speaker 3: like happen Ace. I guess that's what the Chandlers do.
- 1:58Speaker 3: So I'm excited. I mean, uh yeah, it's it's gonna
- 2:01Speaker 3: be good.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Congratulations, Thank you. It's also it's been a while since
- 2:04Speaker 2: you've seen you, you know, fighting down in the rankings,
- 2:07Speaker 2: and I know you want to fight up, but do
- 2:09Speaker 2: you kind of view Patty as maybe the biggest name
- 2:11Speaker 2: in terms of attention it will bring outside of Connor
- 2:14Speaker 2: and obviously fighting Islam for the Bell. It seems like
- 2:16Speaker 2: Patty's the one everyone talks about in the division.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, obviously, this is a sport.
- 2:20Speaker 3: It's the x's and the o's, it's about wins and losses,
- 2:22Speaker 3: it's about rankings, but it's also about being in fights
- 2:26Speaker 3: that people care about.
- 2:26Speaker 1: This is a fight that people care about.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Anytime I step inside the octagon, anytime Patty steps inside
- 2:31Speaker 3: the octagon, people care. People people are going to watch
- 2:35Speaker 3: to hopefully watch us lose or hopefully watch us win
- 2:38Speaker 3: if they're.
- 2:38Speaker 1: A fan of us.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Right, So we've both got that, and uh, this this
- 2:42Speaker 3: fight has all the makings of the people's main event.
- 2:45Speaker 3: And uh, I've only had my backup against the wall
- 2:48Speaker 3: twice in the UFC thus far. Obviously, the first time
- 2:50Speaker 3: was the coming into the UFC UFC debut. I had
- 2:54Speaker 3: everything to gain, but I had a lot to lose.
- 2:56Speaker 3: And obviously we saw how I finished Dan Hooker and
- 3:00Speaker 3: and a half minutes, and then a couple fights later,
- 3:02Speaker 3: back up against the wall against Tony Ferguson who was
- 3:04Speaker 3: ranked number seven or number eight and I was number five,
- 3:09Speaker 3: and it was a kind of a risky situation, and
- 3:11Speaker 3: then we all saw the KO of the Year Sports
- 3:12Speaker 3: Center number.
- 3:13Speaker 1: One, top ten.
- 3:14Speaker 3: So I thrive in these moments, and I believe Saturday
- 3:18Speaker 3: night will be very similar to the last two.
- 3:21Speaker 2: I watched that documentary on YouTube about you. I think
- 3:24Speaker 2: it was called like six hundred and eighty eight Days,
- 3:25Speaker 2: and it used phrases like you've been quote unquote trying mixed.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Martial arts for the last fifteen years.
- 3:30Speaker 2: And then you were reflecting on that string of setbacks
- 3:33Speaker 2: in Bellotar against Will Brooks and everyone, and you used
- 3:36Speaker 2: the phrase like you were forgetting how good you were
- 3:38Speaker 2: before you got back into the wing column. So I guess,
- 3:41Speaker 2: how does this string of setbacks kind of compare to
- 3:44Speaker 2: how you felt back then? Is it that much different
- 3:46Speaker 2: considering now that you know, have all these kids and
- 3:48Speaker 2: you're in the UFC and everything.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, more than anything, I needed to go
- 3:52Speaker 3: through that first little streak to really find.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Out who I am.
- 3:57Speaker 3: You need to go through struggle, you need to go
- 3:59Speaker 3: through through setbacks, You need to go through these trials
- 4:02Speaker 3: in order to find out who you are. Six hundred
- 4:05Speaker 3: and eight days without a win, when at that point
- 4:08Speaker 3: in my career was like a death sentence to my career. Right,
- 4:10Speaker 3: I'm twelve and zero, finished ten fights, nine in the
- 4:13Speaker 3: first or second round. All I did was win, and
- 4:15Speaker 3: all of a sudden, I didn't get my hand raised
- 4:17Speaker 3: against Eddie in the rematch, and I had the next fight,
- 4:22Speaker 3: had an injury, but still kind of forced myself into
- 4:25Speaker 3: it to try to get back in the win column
- 4:27Speaker 3: and lost to a guy I shouldn't have lost too,
- 4:28Speaker 3: and then lost again. It was. It was a tough,
- 4:30Speaker 3: tough time, but now I look back on it as
- 4:32Speaker 3: the greatest blessing thing, well, second greatest blessing. I'll talk
- 4:35Speaker 3: about something else later in my book that's coming out.
- 4:38Speaker 3: And also I don't know if we talked about in
- 4:39Speaker 3: that documentary, but bad things have to happen in order
- 4:43Speaker 3: for you to find out exactly who you are.
- 4:45Speaker 1: And now I don't even.
- 4:47Speaker 3: Know what kind of streak I'm on, or how many
- 4:49Speaker 3: fights I've lost or won, or how many days it's
- 4:51Speaker 3: been it doesn't matter because it's about the journey. It's
- 4:53Speaker 3: so much less about focusing and hyper focusing, being maniacal,
- 4:58Speaker 3: about the wins and the losses and being perfect. I'm
- 5:00Speaker 3: just trying to be successful. I'm not trying to be perfect.
- 5:03Speaker 3: I'm trying to be successful.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Patty's also used the phrase like in his mind when
- 5:07Speaker 2: he's preparing, he's like, oh, Mike, Mike's the guy that's
- 5:09Speaker 2: trying to take food out of my kid's mouths because
- 5:11Speaker 2: he just had twins too. So do you get that
- 5:13Speaker 2: mindset like maybe that's he has to build you up
- 5:16Speaker 2: as this guy that's the bad guy, but he might
- 5:18Speaker 2: not actually hate you outside of the octagon.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Oh, he don't hate me.
- 5:21Speaker 3: And it's and that's what's beautiful about this sport man.
- 5:24Speaker 3: You know we I got a ton of respect for Patty.
- 5:27Speaker 3: I hope I separate him from consciousness without too much
- 5:30Speaker 3: bodily harm uh and lasting, lasting impressions. But with that
- 5:35Speaker 3: being said, I hope he gets up and we hug
- 5:37Speaker 3: it out and he goes back to his family like
- 5:39Speaker 3: that's that's what we do, and he wants the same
- 5:41Speaker 3: exact thing for me. We all have a ton of
- 5:44Speaker 3: respect for each other because we only we know the
- 5:47Speaker 3: sacrifices that we have to make, and some of us
- 5:49Speaker 3: make more than others, and some of us, you know,
- 5:51Speaker 3: are a little bit lukewarm, and some of us are
- 5:53Speaker 3: all in. I believe I'm all in, so I believe
- 5:54Speaker 3: I deserve to win. But yeah, I am, you know,
- 5:58Speaker 3: trying to take the food off of his table, and
- 6:00Speaker 3: he's trying to take the food off of mine. So
- 6:02Speaker 3: we're just gonna go out there and we're gonna compete,
- 6:04Speaker 3: and luckily we get to do it under the brightest
- 6:06Speaker 3: lights and the biggest stage in the world, which is
- 6:07Speaker 3: the Ultimate Fighting Championships.
- 6:09Speaker 2: That just last one for me. You said you had
- 6:10Speaker 2: a book coming out, correct, And.
- 6:12Speaker 3: I'm not sure when it comes out, but we just
- 6:14Speaker 3: finished the first Fight final manuscript, so we're excited.
- 6:16Speaker 2: And you just had a song that's coming out too.
- 6:19Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Well, actually have a song coming out Thursday at midnight
- 6:21Speaker 3: with a Cure of the Down as well. And then
- 6:22Speaker 3: I wrote a song with Bred Ferron, and uh yeah, yeah,
- 6:25Speaker 3: a lot of stuff happening.
- 6:27Speaker 1: So do you ever feel burnout at all?
- 6:29Speaker 2: Because like juggling all that with getting in fist fights
- 6:32Speaker 2: probably seems like a lot.
- 6:33Speaker 3: No, not really, I think I do, and I don't
- 6:36Speaker 3: know if this is right. I gotta really unpack it
- 6:38Speaker 3: if I'm gonna speak to young MMA fighters. But I
- 6:41Speaker 3: do a really good job of compartmentalizing and decompressing. I
- 6:45Speaker 3: do not live in the mixed martial arts gym. If
- 6:49Speaker 3: I think, I believe if I lived in the mixed
- 6:50Speaker 3: martial arts gym, my career would have ended a couple
- 6:53Speaker 3: of years ago because it's just too much toll on
- 6:55Speaker 3: your body. So when I am outside of training camps,
- 6:57Speaker 3: I'm doing a lot of strength and conditioning. I'm keeping
- 6:59Speaker 3: my cardio up, I'm supplementing that supplementing perfectly NonStop, and
- 7:03Speaker 3: I'm eating what I should be eating to just look
- 7:07Speaker 3: like a professional athlete so I can prolong my career
- 7:10Speaker 3: and taking little side projects. I'm an entrepreneur, I'm a businessman,
- 7:13Speaker 3: I'm an investor, So I'm just doing all kinds of
- 7:17Speaker 3: other things that make me feel alive and trying to
- 7:19Speaker 3: serve as many people as I possibly can. And mixed
- 7:21Speaker 3: martial arts fighting in the UFC is just my shiny
- 7:24Speaker 3: objects that gets people to look my direction.
- 7:29Speaker 5: Mike right, here to you're right down here.
- 7:31Speaker 6: Sorry.
- 7:32Speaker 5: You know there's another name that's going to appear on
- 7:34Speaker 5: this card that you have some history with, obviously, and
- 7:36Speaker 5: that's Patricial Pitbull. Just curious, how do you think he
- 7:38Speaker 5: does in the UFC? And how do you think he
- 7:40Speaker 5: does against a.
- 7:41Speaker 3: Yea year, no idea, You never you never know. I mean,
- 7:44Speaker 3: that's why we love this sport. Whether you're a thousand
- 7:46Speaker 3: and one underdog or a thousand and one a favorite,
- 7:48Speaker 3: anybody can win, anybody can lose. Now you take that
- 7:51Speaker 3: that out. You asked me, is Patricio a competitor? Is
- 7:54Speaker 3: he a championship level competitor?
- 7:56Speaker 1: Absolutely? Is he violent? Is he dangerous? Is does he
- 8:00Speaker 1: of it? Absolutely?
- 8:02Speaker 3: Jay Rodriguez is a perennial top guy though. So it's
- 8:05Speaker 3: a tough test, but it's it's what we want. I
- 8:08Speaker 3: I'm not gonna speak for Patricio, but I'm sure there
- 8:13Speaker 3: were many many moments where he watched a UFC on
- 8:16Speaker 3: a Saturday night, or came to a media day with
- 8:19Speaker 3: one of his guys he was cornering and wished he
- 8:21Speaker 3: was here. And now he gets the opportunity just like
- 8:24Speaker 3: I did a couple of years ago. And it was
- 8:27Speaker 3: the right decision for me, and I think it's the
- 8:29Speaker 3: right decision for Patricio.
- 8:30Speaker 1: I wish him the best.
- 8:31Speaker 3: We just saw each other in the lobby, shook hands
- 8:33Speaker 3: a little bit, try to squash the beef a little bit.
- 8:35Speaker 1: You know, he and I have some history. But man,
- 8:38Speaker 1: we'll never fight again.
- 8:40Speaker 3: I wish him the best and uh, we'll come on,
- 8:43Speaker 3: we'll watch on fight night and see how it comes out.
- 8:45Speaker 5: You just said you'll never fight again. He has talked
- 8:47Speaker 5: about maybe fighting a different weight classes while he's here
- 8:49Speaker 5: in the UFC. So do you just think that's done
- 8:51Speaker 5: in your paths diverge for good?
- 8:53Speaker 1: I don't think so. Yeah, I'm not interested in that.
- 8:56Speaker 1: I'm also the kind of guy where I think.
- 8:58Speaker 3: The masses masses say there's a misconception, or maybe maybe not.
- 9:02Speaker 3: Some people will probably like this. I'm not the type
- 9:04Speaker 3: of guy who needs to get revenge. I really don't.
- 9:07Speaker 3: I sleep just fine at night knowing I've had my
- 9:11Speaker 3: losses and i've and I've taken my l's and I
- 9:13Speaker 3: don't need to right the wrong because ultimately fighting is
- 9:17Speaker 3: not the most important thing in my life. So I
- 9:19Speaker 3: don't neither right righting your wrongs.
- 9:21Speaker 5: And then the other name that you're constantly, you know,
- 9:23Speaker 5: kind of linked to, is obviously Connor. Just a quick
- 9:25Speaker 5: one on that. What do you think of his presidential
- 9:27Speaker 5: bid for Ireland?
- 9:28Speaker 3: I think you should vote. I think you should vote
- 9:31Speaker 3: for Connor McGregor for president of Ireland.
- 9:32Speaker 1: If you're a resident of Ireland. No, I mean, I
- 9:35Speaker 1: don't know.
- 9:36Speaker 3: You don't know what's up with you know what Connor's all.
- 9:38Speaker 3: What Connor's thinking. He's got you know, you talk about
- 9:41Speaker 3: me burnout and busy and whatnot. I mean, that guy's
- 9:44Speaker 3: got his hands in a thousand different things, for better
- 9:46Speaker 3: or worse.
- 9:48Speaker 1: So I think, uh, you know, we'll see what happens.
- 9:51Speaker 1: It could just be.
- 9:51Speaker 3: A political stunt, could just be for attention. Not a
- 9:57Speaker 3: bad move if it is, and we'll see one.
- 10:00Speaker 5: What do you make of Patty during this fight week?
- 10:02Speaker 5: He's a guy who sometimes has beefed with opponents, sometimes
- 10:06Speaker 5: beef with fighters that he's not fighting. But you guys
- 10:08Speaker 5: have been very very cordial. Is is this what you expected?
- 10:13Speaker 3: Not necessarily? I didn't quite know, Thank you. Sorry, it's
- 10:16Speaker 3: measured out perfectly. I can't drink this one. I wasn't
- 10:22Speaker 3: sure honestly, what to expect, To be honest with you.
- 10:25Speaker 3: I know he's got some funny trash talk. He likes
- 10:27Speaker 3: to get in the mix. He's not afraid. He's got
- 10:29Speaker 3: that Scouser accent. And but ultimately, you know, Patty and
- 10:34Speaker 3: I have have crossed passed many times. You know, after
- 10:37Speaker 3: I was at his fight against Ferguson, I came up
- 10:39Speaker 3: to him congratulated him, because why not even if he's
- 10:42Speaker 3: in my weight class, even if I knew he was
- 10:43Speaker 3: a young hungry star on the rise, could be coming
- 10:46Speaker 3: to be sitting right here someday to fight me. The
- 10:51Speaker 3: sports about respect, and I respect the heck out of him.
- 10:54Speaker 3: And you know, he even was like I wasn't able
- 10:57Speaker 3: to do what you did to him, but I got
- 10:58Speaker 3: the wind and I was like, hey man, you did great.
- 10:59Speaker 3: You know, we're very cordial. We don't need to hate
- 11:02Speaker 3: each other to go out there and try to steal
- 11:04Speaker 3: the show. Chandler versus Pimblet is the people's main event,
- 11:07Speaker 3: and we will steal the show on Saturday night, and
- 11:10Speaker 3: uh we'll shake hands and maybe share a point after.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Thank you, Mike. I say, at point point.
- 11:20Speaker 7: Mike, you said you recently you recently said, you love
- 11:23Speaker 7: your losses. You were a two time runner up at
- 11:25Speaker 7: the Big Twelve Championships. How did you deal with your
- 11:28Speaker 7: losses then versus how do you deal with them now?
- 11:32Speaker 3: Back then, I mean college, college was tough, self inflicted.
- 11:38Speaker 3: I made the sport of wrestling way too big. My
- 11:41Speaker 3: identity was wrapped up in being a guy who had
- 11:45Speaker 3: one goal and if it, if you, or it or
- 11:49Speaker 3: there or whatever did not align with that goal, I
- 11:53Speaker 3: was not interested in spending any of my time on you.
- 11:56Speaker 3: I lost relationships. I didn't go to birthday parties, they
- 12:00Speaker 3: didn't go to funerals. I missed all kinds of things
- 12:02Speaker 3: because I was all in on the sport of wrestling.
- 12:04Speaker 3: And I think that's the way that we need to
- 12:06Speaker 3: be to a certain extent. But we can't have entire
- 12:09Speaker 3: our entire identity wrapped up in it. And after, you know,
- 12:12Speaker 3: the last time I took those shoulder straps off for
- 12:15Speaker 3: the last time and Saint Louis, Missouri, after I got
- 12:18Speaker 3: done wrestling, I realized how much pressure I took put
- 12:22Speaker 3: on myself and how much how much harder I made
- 12:26Speaker 3: the sport than it needed to be. And I took
- 12:29Speaker 3: that into mixed martial arts, and yeah, I've had my
- 12:30Speaker 3: ups and my downs, and I've fallen back into that
- 12:33Speaker 3: trap a couple of times. But now I realize it's
- 12:35Speaker 3: all about the journey. It's not about the wins and
- 12:37Speaker 3: the losses. It's all about the journey. As long as
- 12:39Speaker 3: you are sowing seeds every single day, that's how you
- 12:42Speaker 3: should be judging.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Every single day.
- 12:44Speaker 3: Focus on success, not perfections, focus on the little winds.
- 12:47Speaker 3: And that's why I'm living the dream. Whatever happens on
- 12:52Speaker 3: Saturday night happens. I know I've prepared. I know I've
- 12:54Speaker 3: done everything that I possibly can to get into the
- 12:56Speaker 3: wind column and get my hand raised.
- 12:58Speaker 1: So we'll see what happens.
- 13:01Speaker 8: Hey, Mike, right here, I'm from Brazil. You fought Charlie's twice, right,
- 13:07Speaker 8: and there's.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Take your time yep twice Phil.
- 13:14Speaker 8: Uh, how do you see all this movement going on?
- 13:18Speaker 8: Like there's rumors that Islam might move up? Uh, Charles
- 13:22Speaker 8: might fight to Puria Topuria. Obviously it's on your division. Now,
- 13:26Speaker 8: how do you see all of that playing and how
- 13:28Speaker 8: do you think, especially for us from Brazil, how do
- 13:31Speaker 8: you see Charles doing against a guy like to Puria
- 13:34Speaker 8: or Islam again.
- 13:36Speaker 1: It's tough, man.
- 13:37Speaker 3: If I'm thinking with my heart, I want I want
- 13:39Speaker 3: Gaichie to get a shot, you know, Gaichie being the
- 13:41Speaker 3: number one guy and then putting the putting that number
- 13:43Speaker 3: one ranking on the on the line against Max Holloway
- 13:45Speaker 3: for the BMF belt and then losing that, So then
- 13:47Speaker 3: he drops down a notch. Charles and I were number
- 13:51Speaker 3: one contender fight. But now now you got Taporia coming up,
- 13:54Speaker 3: you got Poorier retiring, you got Islam talking about going
- 13:57Speaker 3: up to one seventy. You know, there's a bunch of
- 13:59Speaker 3: rumblings about that in the media and things that he
- 14:01Speaker 3: has said. So the coolest thing is just being a
- 14:03Speaker 3: part of the most interesting division in the world. It's
- 14:08Speaker 3: interesting from all the things that you you just mentioned,
- 14:11Speaker 3: I just mentioned, but it's also interesting because every single
- 14:14Speaker 3: one of those guys shows up to fight. Charles is
- 14:16Speaker 3: a consummate professional. Even though I've lost to him, I
- 14:23Speaker 3: don't hate him. He just did his job and I
- 14:26Speaker 3: respect the heck out of him. And uh, you know,
- 14:30Speaker 3: obviously he's up in that in that conversation. Top two
- 14:33Speaker 3: maybe next next for the title shot, BMF belt, whatever
- 14:35Speaker 3: it may be.
- 14:37Speaker 2: So we'll see my quick just one more quick one.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Is your book gonna be called see You at the
- 14:42Speaker 1: Top or walk On?
- 14:43Speaker 3: It's not gonna be see you at the Top because
- 14:45Speaker 3: zig Ziggler wrote a book called see You at the Top,
- 14:47Speaker 3: so everybody knows zig Ziggler coined the phrase see you
- 14:50Speaker 3: at the Top. It's not me, I'm just the one
- 14:52Speaker 3: who made it famous and their mixed Martial arts REALM.
- 14:55Speaker 3: So it won't be called to You at the Top
- 14:57Speaker 3: were We're not sure what the title will be yet,
- 15:00Speaker 3: but yeah, it's obviously a lot a lot about walking
- 15:02Speaker 3: on and see you at the Top in six hundred
- 15:05Speaker 3: and eighty eight days and all the things I've gone through.
- 15:07Speaker 3: But it's a working title right now. I will be
- 15:09Speaker 3: the first put first book published under Gordon Publishing by
- 15:12Speaker 3: World War Nine author John Gordon, who just started his
- 15:14Speaker 3: publishing company. So it's pretty a pretty awesome opportunity. I'm
- 15:17Speaker 3: excited to share it with the world.
- 15:19Speaker 9: You could cool to see you at the very top?
- 15:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I could see I see you at the very
- 15:22Speaker 3: top or over the top. Zig used to say, if
- 15:25Speaker 3: you do this, and you do this, and you do
- 15:27Speaker 3: this and you do this.
- 15:28Speaker 1: I won't just see you at the top. I'll see
- 15:29Speaker 1: you over the top.
- 15:32Speaker 10: So yeah, keeping in mind, you fought Poorer, Gaigee, olivera
- 15:38Speaker 10: like all the top names at one point fifty five,
- 15:39Speaker 10: do you feel like you're taking a step down against Patty?
- 15:42Speaker 1: No, it's not. I mean, it's not a step down.
- 15:44Speaker 3: I mean because yeah, you guys would say it's a
- 15:47Speaker 3: step down, and everybody who would look at the rankings
- 15:49Speaker 3: and that kind of stuff would say step down. But ultimately,
- 15:52Speaker 3: I never fought Poorier and Gaigee and Oliver and all
- 15:55Speaker 3: these guys. I fought two arms and two legs, a
- 15:58Speaker 3: torso and ahead. You know, it's a body, and I
- 16:02Speaker 3: see targets and I have a job to do. So
- 16:05Speaker 3: that's the way I see it. That's how I've always
- 16:07Speaker 3: approached the sport of mixed martial arts. Try not to
- 16:09Speaker 3: get wrapped up in the outside theatrics or the names,
- 16:12Speaker 3: or the auras or the storylines.
- 16:15Speaker 1: And yeah, it's gonna be a fun one.
- 16:18Speaker 10: And just real quick, obviously all those names are very decorated.
- 16:21Speaker 10: Patty has yet to achieve the same things that those
- 16:24Speaker 10: guys have, So just wondering do you feel like losing
- 16:26Speaker 10: to him like some people might see it as almost
- 16:28Speaker 10: signaling the end of your title contention days or the
- 16:31Speaker 10: end of your prime.
- 16:32Speaker 11: Do you do you think about that?
- 16:33Speaker 1: Do you think I've thought about losing? I'm asking you, No,
- 16:36Speaker 1: I haven't thought about losing.
- 16:38Speaker 3: So in this sport, I think it's I think it's
- 16:41Speaker 3: you think about winning and then you see what the
- 16:44Speaker 3: result is, and then if you lose, you recalibrate. If
- 16:48Speaker 3: you win, you still recalibrate. So you know, it's one
- 16:51Speaker 3: of those deals where I haven't really thought about that.
- 16:54Speaker 3: I've been a competitor since I was fourteen years old,
- 16:57Speaker 3: and I've always just focused on doing the best that
- 16:59Speaker 3: I've possibly can to be as prepared as I can,
- 17:02Speaker 3: and so be it.
- 17:04Speaker 1: I'll fight it. Thank you.
- 17:05Speaker 6: You know.
- 17:05Speaker 9: I think, oh, You've had a lot of attention on
- 17:07Speaker 9: you said you comes to the UFC, but this one
- 17:09Speaker 9: feels like the biggest one right so far in your career.
- 17:11Speaker 9: Do you feel like this is the biggest fight you've
- 17:13Speaker 9: had to take a part of.
- 17:14Speaker 11: Yeah, definitely.
- 17:16Speaker 6: Heavery fight that I have now is going to be
- 17:17Speaker 6: the biggest fight in mere obviously Evan's and must win
- 17:21Speaker 6: and call me an event slot on the best pay
- 17:24Speaker 6: per view of the Year, best Fighter of the Year.
- 17:27Speaker 11: It's a swear I need to shine.
- 17:29Speaker 9: Every fighter in their career has that one fight that
- 17:32Speaker 9: sort of in the eyes of the audience proves them
- 17:35Speaker 9: to be like a legit fighter.
- 17:36Speaker 3: Right.
- 17:36Speaker 9: I think back to when Connor first fought Dustin as
- 17:38Speaker 9: he was coming through the rank, suddenly everyone realized like, oh,
- 17:40Speaker 9: this guy is really good. Do you see This fight
- 17:43Speaker 9: with Chanda is the one that for you shows the
- 17:45Speaker 9: world like, I'm not just a fun fighter, I'm a
- 17:47Speaker 9: legit elite fighter.
- 17:49Speaker 11: I hope so.
- 17:50Speaker 6: But the goldpost always get moved with me. Lad, Everyone's
- 17:55Speaker 6: saying now before the Fighter channel is going to knock
- 17:58Speaker 6: him out to part he is not good, and then
- 18:00Speaker 6: once I beat him, it'll be oh he's two and
- 18:02Speaker 6: forward in the UFC.
- 18:03Speaker 11: He's taty eighties washed, you know what I mean.
- 18:06Speaker 6: That's just I'm used to it. I get on with
- 18:08Speaker 6: it now. I just go out there and prove how
- 18:11Speaker 6: good Ian by winning.
- 18:13Speaker 9: I saw on your YouTube channel, which is a great channel.
- 18:15Speaker 9: People should check it out that you've started really like
- 18:18Speaker 9: dialing in and taking your career seriously more than you
- 18:20Speaker 9: ever had before. Do you feel the effects of that
- 18:22Speaker 9: in the gym and when you.
- 18:23Speaker 6: Train, Yeah, I feel it when a spa if you
- 18:25Speaker 6: look when to train, even like doing me fight run
- 18:28Speaker 6: through the last couple of days when we've been saying
- 18:31Speaker 6: and I've never had this much energy fight we I've
- 18:34Speaker 6: never been able to smash pads for rounds and rounds
- 18:37Speaker 6: and then do a fight to him after that and
- 18:40Speaker 6: everything is just coming together.
- 18:42Speaker 1: You know.
- 18:42Speaker 6: Everyone always says it's very cliche, but I am in
- 18:45Speaker 6: the shape of my life. I've never felt this good
- 18:48Speaker 6: and it'll show on the weekend.
- 18:50Speaker 9: Did we establish who has the bigger mice messed up hand,
- 18:53Speaker 9: you or Michael?
- 18:54Speaker 6: Yeah, everything started saying I've got a moose knuffle, which
- 18:57Speaker 6: was quite funny, but yeah, I think I've got bigger
- 18:59Speaker 6: hands on lot.
- 19:00Speaker 11: He's only little and.
- 19:01Speaker 2: He you've used that phrase, you know, people are always
- 19:06Speaker 2: moving the goalposts for you, And I remember you were
- 19:08Speaker 2: saying something similarly when you fought Tony and something similarly
- 19:11Speaker 2: when you fought Bobby Green and or.
- 19:13Speaker 1: King Green, and then you said you kind of get
- 19:14Speaker 1: on with it now. Did that ever bother you at all?
- 19:17Speaker 2: And was there a moment when you were just like,
- 19:18Speaker 2: all right, I got to move on from this.
- 19:20Speaker 6: Nah, It's been out there since I was anama ches,
- 19:22Speaker 6: since I was sixteen. You know, people saying Audie beat yet,
- 19:26Speaker 6: and I'm when I beat them, it's like, oh, he's
- 19:28Speaker 6: not even not good. I'm used to it. It's being
- 19:30Speaker 6: out it for years and years. It's certain. That's what's
- 19:33Speaker 6: not new to me.
- 19:35Speaker 2: We've been we've heard your name even when you were
- 19:37Speaker 2: you know, in the Cage Warriors days, we had been
- 19:39Speaker 2: hearing of Patty and then obviously famously you decided not
- 19:43Speaker 2: to sign that first YEARFC contract to bet on yourself.
- 19:45Speaker 2: But since around even before then, it's felt like you've
- 19:48Speaker 2: been this quote unquote kind of superstar and the rising
- 19:51Speaker 2: that we're gonna have.
- 19:52Speaker 1: These big media days with.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Can you remember a time that you felt like that,
- 19:56Speaker 2: Like maybe you don't feel like a superstar, but people
- 19:59Speaker 2: around you started to really really recognize you, like around
- 20:02Speaker 2: the world.
- 20:03Speaker 6: No, yeah, when I was on even when I was
- 20:05Speaker 6: fighting on Cage what he is and I won the
- 20:08Speaker 6: belt there and now that blew up a bit. And
- 20:10Speaker 6: even when I'd go on holidays and i'd go to
- 20:12Speaker 6: Thailand and Spain and stuff like that, I'd still get
- 20:15Speaker 6: asked for pictures before I was even in the UFC.
- 20:18Speaker 6: But then obviously, when you get to the UFC, it's
- 20:21Speaker 6: the premier league of MMA.
- 20:24Speaker 11: One fight and.
- 20:25Speaker 6: Everywhere to go. I just pitch a pitcher NonStop. But
- 20:29Speaker 6: I don't mind it, you know what I mean. As
- 20:31Speaker 6: long as people use the manners people say please, I
- 20:34Speaker 6: always say to you, what the magic word? So yeah,
- 20:38Speaker 6: I don't mind getting pictures with people. It's all good
- 20:39Speaker 6: as long as I'm not with the babies.
- 20:41Speaker 2: When Connor and Sean O'Malley were on the rise, they
- 20:45Speaker 2: used like this phrase like they always knew this would happen.
- 20:47Speaker 2: They couldn't really describe the feeling, but they always knew
- 20:50Speaker 2: they would be this superstar even before they were pros.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Did you have that feeling at all or did you
- 20:55Speaker 2: just kind of ride the wave?
- 20:56Speaker 6: No, I always said that. I always said we had
- 20:58Speaker 6: meant that. I always knew that this was coming, and
- 21:00Speaker 6: I always knew that this was in the future. That's
- 21:03Speaker 6: why it doesn't phased me. It's all I was just
- 21:05Speaker 6: talking because I said, from day one thought this is
- 21:09Speaker 6: what's gonna happen. I'm gonna be one of the biggest
- 21:11Speaker 6: superstars in this sports and I want to be a
- 21:13Speaker 6: world champion Monday.
- 21:15Speaker 2: And then this year, dating from the January pay per view,
- 21:17Speaker 2: even through your fight, we're seeing a lot of these
- 21:20Speaker 2: young lightweight prospects, you know, like like Rufi, Ignacio Baha, Monday's,
- 21:24Speaker 2: like Tom Nolan and everyone, and they've all said the
- 21:27Speaker 2: same thing, like the top ten to fifteen of lightweight
- 21:30Speaker 2: are probably closer to retirement than their primes outside of
- 21:32Speaker 2: armand and a few of them said like, well, Patty's
- 21:35Speaker 2: kind of leading this charge of young lightweight's coming up
- 21:38Speaker 2: the division. Do you feel that and do you kind
- 21:40Speaker 2: of look like they might not be ranked, but do
- 21:41Speaker 2: you see these guys as like I'll probably have to
- 21:43Speaker 2: fight this guy in like three four years probab maybe
- 21:46Speaker 2: for a title.
- 21:46Speaker 11: Yeah, you never know.
- 21:48Speaker 6: I've said the same myself, the old gods changing. The
- 21:51Speaker 6: old God's gonna fall out so that all gonna retire
- 21:54Speaker 6: it or the gonna end upon it, the jocuity, like
- 21:56Speaker 6: Tony Ferguson, because they're all getting all. I think most
- 22:01Speaker 6: of the top ten is over thirty eight, well thirty
- 22:05Speaker 6: five sorry, like Benil Mikano, Chandler Potier, Gagey Charles.
- 22:13Speaker 11: I don't know how all gam rots is.
- 22:15Speaker 6: I think danil Hood might be over thirty five as
- 22:18Speaker 6: well now, so the top ten at likewait, in the
- 22:21Speaker 6: next three years is gonna be completely different apart from
- 22:25Speaker 6: me and Armor.
- 22:26Speaker 2: And then just last one for me, I think it
- 22:28Speaker 2: was either you your coach used the phrase you know,
- 22:30Speaker 2: Charles showed the formula against Michael Chandler, So I guess
- 22:32Speaker 2: what in that fight without giving away your game plan,
- 22:35Speaker 2: I obviously did you see from Charles and you're like,
- 22:37Speaker 2: all right, this is the path to victory.
- 22:39Speaker 6: But a lot of stuff, you know what I mean?
- 22:40Speaker 6: I couldn't even name one. We kept him on the
- 22:42Speaker 6: end of his shots. He showed that easy Michael Chandler
- 22:46Speaker 6: is to take down a lot of people thought Chandler
- 22:48Speaker 6: was a high level wrestler, but he might be a
- 22:51Speaker 6: high level like Division one wrestler where it's just straight wrestling,
- 22:55Speaker 6: but MMA wrestling I'm better at. I'm a better grappler
- 22:59Speaker 6: and a better story. He's just got probably got more
- 23:02Speaker 6: power in his hands. But we'll prove with Donald Saturday night,
- 23:05Speaker 6: won't we We'll see who's got more power, because I
- 23:08Speaker 6: think there's more chance of me knocking him out than
- 23:10Speaker 6: him knocking me out?
- 23:12Speaker 8: How do you right here?
- 23:13Speaker 4: You know you mentioned all those names that are kind
- 23:15Speaker 4: of on their way out of the division a little bit.
- 23:17Speaker 4: Is that why you're trying to get these fights in
- 23:20Speaker 4: as like as many as possible now, because once they're gone,
- 23:23Speaker 4: Like you look at the great fighters in the sport,
- 23:25Speaker 4: they have these names of the former champions and stuff
- 23:27Speaker 4: on the resume. Is it's important to try to get
- 23:29Speaker 4: as many of those as possible before they move on
- 23:31Speaker 4: for your legacy.
- 23:32Speaker 6: Yeah, of course it'd be nice to get all the
- 23:34Speaker 6: future Hall of Famous because like Gage Portier, definitely Charles,
- 23:39Speaker 6: Like if I could pick one of them to fight,
- 23:42Speaker 6: it will be Charles Olivada. He's got the most submissions
- 23:44Speaker 6: in UFC history, former champion, defend of the belt twice,
- 23:48Speaker 6: well Miss Waite one, but I'll still call out of
- 23:50Speaker 6: defense and I think me and him stylistically would be
- 23:54Speaker 6: a brilliant fight. But as I say, I think Dustin's
- 23:57Speaker 6: only having one more than retiring. But Gage, He's another
- 24:00Speaker 6: fight that I'd love to have. These are all names
- 24:03Speaker 6: actually in the history of the lightweight division. They're all
- 24:05Speaker 6: names that everyone knows and everyone recognizes. So beating people
- 24:09Speaker 6: like da just be bosh.
- 24:12Speaker 4: Yeah, I saw dustin Poree is gonna be a desk
- 24:15Speaker 4: analyst for this event. Does that excite you that you're
- 24:17Speaker 4: maybe gonna have to make him say some really nice
- 24:18Speaker 4: things about you.
- 24:19Speaker 6: With your Hey, Yeah, I don't think he likes me
- 24:21Speaker 6: very much, to be honest, but I know he dislikes
- 24:24Speaker 6: Michael Charmer a lot more than me, So yeah, it'll
- 24:27Speaker 6: be quite fun to have a little chat with him
- 24:29Speaker 6: after I've won.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Patty Benny right.
- 24:34Speaker 5: Here, Sorry, Molly retired recently. Obviously, the two of you
- 24:37Speaker 5: are very close. You've had some big nights together the
- 24:39Speaker 5: Patty and Molly Show, that twenty two event when the
- 24:42Speaker 5: UFC came back a little bit for the first time
- 24:44Speaker 5: since COVID.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Was it hard seeing her hang them up?
- 24:47Speaker 5: And was there part of you that was kind of wishing, Hey,
- 24:49Speaker 5: maybe we could do this one more time together?
- 24:51Speaker 6: Yeah, And of course, you know what I mean, I
- 24:52Speaker 6: didn't want us to desire. I had a little england
- 24:55Speaker 6: that she might do bo. I didn't think she'd just
- 24:58Speaker 6: do it like da change of opponents really fucked her,
- 25:03Speaker 6: you know what I mean? She was saying in the
- 25:05Speaker 6: fight Striker and ended up getting a very high level
- 25:09Speaker 6: grappler on a week's notice, So it really messed every enough. Bo,
- 25:15Speaker 6: As I say, I had a little inncland sheet did.
- 25:17Speaker 6: But I think she had it in the back of
- 25:18Speaker 6: the man that if she lost, she was going to retire.
- 25:21Speaker 6: And you know, she's she's got other things going on
- 25:23Speaker 6: in her life. Thinks she's always said she wants to
- 25:24Speaker 6: have a child. She's got her own businesses, so she's
- 25:29Speaker 6: got other things going on outside of the fighting. Obviously,
- 25:32Speaker 6: I'd love to have that one last row with you, Bo,
- 25:35Speaker 6: It's one of them. Have we also have a life
- 25:37Speaker 6: outside of the fighting?
- 25:39Speaker 5: Fair enough? And you know, now you and Chandler, you
- 25:41Speaker 5: both actually came into the UFC in twenty twenty one.
- 25:44Speaker 5: Obviously very different halfs to get here. But when you
- 25:47Speaker 5: look back to your Cage Warrior days and turning down
- 25:49Speaker 5: that first contract and even taking a pay cut to
- 25:51Speaker 5: be here on your first contract, is this what you
- 25:54Speaker 5: envisioned back then? Has it exceeded your expectations?
- 25:57Speaker 11: No?
- 25:58Speaker 6: Yet, this is exactly how I envisioned it. It's been
- 26:00Speaker 6: a little bit slower because I got that injury and
- 26:04Speaker 6: was out for the whole year, and then obviously my
- 26:05Speaker 6: wife had twins, so he had a couple of months
- 26:08Speaker 6: off after the last fight. So it's been a little
- 26:10Speaker 6: bit slower than a Jeffuary bo it's eviding's gone smoothly.
- 26:14Speaker 6: Everything's gone to plan meets Jefftory, the road map I'm taking.
- 26:20Speaker 6: It's going perfect. Beat Michael Chandler the weekend and fight
- 26:25Speaker 6: someone like as we've just been saying, Charles, Justin or
- 26:27Speaker 6: Dustin and Abu dab Be in October and then I'm
- 26:31Speaker 6: coming for that belt in twenty twenty six.
- 26:34Speaker 11: Thank you, Patty.
- 26:37Speaker 2: On a Full Scent podcast, you had some words for
- 26:39Speaker 2: our mansarukin.
- 26:41Speaker 1: What prompted you to say that?
- 26:42Speaker 11: And did you hear his response? Yeah?
- 26:45Speaker 6: The scene is responsor tickled me, Amy laugh. It's just
- 26:50Speaker 6: being honest, you know what I mean. I'm just brutally honest.
- 26:52Speaker 6: I can't lie. Someone got asked about someone, I'm gonna
- 26:55Speaker 6: be honest. I've seen him saying an interviewed other week today,
- 26:59Speaker 6: I don't watch anybody they're not in the top five.
- 27:01Speaker 6: I won't watch Chanlan and Primley. Well, what are you
- 27:04Speaker 6: tweeting me for?
- 27:05Speaker 11: Then? You know what I mean?
- 27:06Speaker 6: If you weren't concerned about people who are in the
- 27:09Speaker 6: top five. He wouldn't be tweeting me when I've said
- 27:11Speaker 6: something about you. Like people who say stuff about me
- 27:15Speaker 6: what beneath me, I don't mention it. I just leave
- 27:17Speaker 6: them to it. But you know I must be in
- 27:20Speaker 6: his head. It's not my faulty shites.
- 27:22Speaker 11: His pants.
- 27:25Speaker 1: And with the win here, do you plan to call
- 27:26Speaker 1: him out?
- 27:27Speaker 11: Anyone in the top five? I don't care.
- 27:29Speaker 6: Like it doesn't have to be a certain person like.
- 27:32Speaker 6: It can be armoring, it can be Charles, it can
- 27:34Speaker 6: be Justin, it can be dusting. I just want to
- 27:36Speaker 6: fight whoever's going to get me to that title. It's like,
- 27:40Speaker 6: I haven't got no personal vendettas against anyone a part familiar,
- 27:44Speaker 6: so it's it's one of them. I'll fight anyone they
- 27:47Speaker 6: put in front of me. I'll never turn down a fight.
- 27:54Speaker 8: Make better right here. I'm from Brazil and I was
- 27:58Speaker 8: talking to Patricia Peter Boo a couple of days ago
- 28:01Speaker 8: and he told me, like your message here and he
- 28:03Speaker 8: gave you some advice on channel without saying what it was.
- 28:08Speaker 8: That's something you plan on using on a.
- 28:10Speaker 6: Fight, Yeah, definitely, I messaged him when when we was
- 28:15Speaker 6: at the press conference, a couple of weeks ago. I
- 28:18Speaker 6: was going to try and get some signing them with him,
- 28:19Speaker 6: to be honest, because he's a little bit of a
- 28:21Speaker 6: similar style to Channeler, only his shorts stock. He throws
- 28:24Speaker 6: big shots, and I could have played the year for him.
- 28:27Speaker 6: I mean, I'm taller, rangey, throw a lot of kicks.
- 28:31Speaker 6: But we never We just didn't find the time to
- 28:33Speaker 6: get him with each other and do it. Bo At
- 28:36Speaker 6: the media day, the press conference, we were in the
- 28:39Speaker 6: back and we were talking to him and his coach
- 28:41Speaker 6: and his brother, and he did give me a little
- 28:43Speaker 6: few pointers, showed me a little few things.
- 28:47Speaker 11: I think we might have a little bit of our
- 28:48Speaker 11: own video.
- 28:49Speaker 6: So after the fight, if that comes off, Purple will
- 28:53Speaker 6: be getting a big shout out and we'll share the
- 28:56Speaker 6: video of what he was showing me.
- 28:58Speaker 1: That's pretty cool.
- 28:58Speaker 7: Thinking three years ago you started the Baddy Foundation, which
- 29:03Speaker 7: is geared towards helping men's health, men's mental health awareness,
- 29:07Speaker 7: and helps feed kids and needs. I wanted to ask,
- 29:09Speaker 7: how's the foundation going and do you have any cool
- 29:11Speaker 7: projects coming up?
- 29:12Speaker 6: It's going, grace, you know of me, and I'm still
- 29:14Speaker 6: raising funds constantly. One of the best things that we've
- 29:18Speaker 6: done so far is a charity. What does counseling in
- 29:22Speaker 6: the UK called James's Place. It's a place that I
- 29:25Speaker 6: actually went to myself when I was depressed and struggling
- 29:29Speaker 6: with me mental health. I got the actually had sessions
- 29:32Speaker 6: there and we donated enough money for them to employ
- 29:37Speaker 6: another counsel and another member of staff. I don't know
- 29:39Speaker 6: if it was a year or two years. Like we
- 29:42Speaker 6: use the funds out of the Body Foundation to do
- 29:44Speaker 6: that so more men can actually go and speak to
- 29:47Speaker 6: someone and get mental health advice and you know, hopefully
- 29:52Speaker 6: not do not undrast it and not take their own
- 29:54Speaker 6: life all tying armed themselves.
- 29:58Speaker 11: Patty real quick.
- 30:00Speaker 10: People have accused Michael Chandler fans and past the oppointents
- 30:03Speaker 10: of maybe being a dirty fighter, of cheating fish looking
- 30:06Speaker 10: shots to the back of the head, wondering do you
- 30:08Speaker 10: agree with that? Do you see him as a dirty fighter?
- 30:10Speaker 10: And if so, I guess what, how do you prepare
- 30:12Speaker 10: for that? And do you have to have a conversation
- 30:15Speaker 10: with the referee in the back to be like, hey,
- 30:16Speaker 10: just be extra careful.
- 30:18Speaker 6: Yeah, he's the nicest man in the world outside the cage,
- 30:20Speaker 6: and when he gets in it he's its a edsy bastard.
- 30:22Speaker 6: He oh, but I always say, if you're not cheating,
- 30:26Speaker 6: you're not trying. So I understand what he's trying to do.
- 30:29Speaker 6: He wants to win, and that's that's the main thing
- 30:32Speaker 6: when it comes to this game.
- 30:33Speaker 11: Bo.
- 30:34Speaker 6: Yeah, I probably will mention to the ref in the back,
- 30:37Speaker 6: like if he's gonna grab me gloves. I want to say,
- 30:40Speaker 6: if he tries to poking in the eye and stuff
- 30:42Speaker 6: like that, because that one against Charles lad when he
- 30:45Speaker 6: punched them in the back of the head about nine
- 30:47Speaker 6: times or stain and the ref. I hope that's not
- 30:50Speaker 6: my referee put it that way. I hope I've got
- 30:53Speaker 6: a good ref like God or Hazorg. I don't want
- 30:56Speaker 6: to have a ref that's just gonna let me get
- 30:58Speaker 6: rabbit punched in the back of the head. Can consistently
- 31:01Speaker 6: the one what he does again, he was bad as
- 31:02Speaker 6: well when he poked them in the eye and then
- 31:05Speaker 6: the references are stopping and he just punched them in
- 31:07Speaker 6: the face as hard as he could. And as I say, Chandlers,
- 31:11Speaker 6: a real nice fellow outside the octagonal bumped into him
- 31:14Speaker 6: yesterday and had a chat with him.
- 31:15Speaker 11: But in there he's a very very daisty man. Thank you,
- 31:20Speaker 11: good luck,
