Latest / Inside the Birds: A Philadelphia Eagles Podcast / The DiCecco Daily: Can The Eagles Realistically Be Positioned To Draft TE Kenyon Sadiq?
Transcript
- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey, what's happened? Everybody?
- 0:11Speaker 2: Welcome into another episode of the check O Deli Andrew
- 0:14Speaker 2: de Checko, Eagles Beat Reporter friends Sidethbirds dot Com here
- 0:18Speaker 2: and I want to get to some draft topics in
- 0:20Speaker 2: today's show. The first question being Kenyon Sadik, the Oregon
- 0:24Speaker 2: tight end, the top rad to tight end in this
- 0:26Speaker 2: draft class. The Eagles have a need there and Kenyon
- 0:30Speaker 2: Sadiq could present a very unique asset to an offense
- 0:34Speaker 2: and create some explosive plays and unique mismatches. So all
- 0:38Speaker 2: that being said, he's a projected mid round or shortly
- 0:43Speaker 2: in front of where the Eagles are picking at twenty
- 0:45Speaker 2: three draft pick. That's his range, that's where he's projected
- 0:49Speaker 2: to go. And when you look at some of the
- 0:51Speaker 2: teams that are sitting there at fifteen, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers,
- 0:55Speaker 2: yes they did resign Kate Otten, but when you have
- 0:59Speaker 2: a chance to add to Kenyon Sadik, who can transform
- 1:03Speaker 2: that position, you don't think twice about doing that. You
- 1:06Speaker 2: go ahead and get the best player you can. And
- 1:09Speaker 2: Kate Otten is a fine number two, and something like
- 1:13Speaker 2: that shouldn't preclude a team from taking a really good player.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Looking at it, I think you have. Sixteen is the
- 1:19Speaker 2: Detroit Lions. They have Sam Laporter.
- 1:21Speaker 1: They're good there.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Seventeen, I forget which team is there. At eighteen you
- 1:28Speaker 2: have the Vikings. The Vikings have an aging TJ. Hockinson
- 1:31Speaker 2: who gets hurt a lot and plays the game in
- 1:34Speaker 2: a really physical manner. But you have to wonder how
- 1:36Speaker 2: much longer he's going to be playing. And then nineteen,
- 1:40Speaker 2: that's the one that I would circle because the Carolina
- 1:43Speaker 2: Panthers have an obvious need at tight end. They were
- 1:47Speaker 2: a team that made a nice run last year, but
- 1:50Speaker 2: it was evident in the postseason game that while Bryce
- 1:53Speaker 2: Young performed at a high level, they lacked for that
- 1:58Speaker 2: star power a go to option. Jalen Kocher, the wide
- 2:01Speaker 2: receiver from Holy Cross, was their primary receiving threat. And
- 2:06Speaker 2: so they have Tommy Treble, they have Jatavian Sanders, he's
- 2:12Speaker 2: their backup tight end. They could stand to really bolster
- 2:15Speaker 2: that group, And so I look at a team like
- 2:17Speaker 2: that that could really use an offensive component that's gonna
- 2:23Speaker 2: generate some big time plays and be a difference maker.
- 2:25Speaker 2: That would be someone that would make some sense. So
- 2:28Speaker 2: if you're the Eagles, let's say you have to get
- 2:31Speaker 2: up to nineteen. I'm just throwing that out there. Would
- 2:34Speaker 2: that be something that would that would be logical to
- 2:38Speaker 2: do to get a tight end? It's traditionally out of
- 2:40Speaker 2: position of value and what might that cost you? Look,
- 2:44Speaker 2: I don't if the team believes in the player enough
- 2:49Speaker 2: and they have a vision for how they want to
- 2:51Speaker 2: utilize them, they really believe that he can be the
- 2:54Speaker 2: missing piece and help Jalen Hurts early on in the
- 2:58Speaker 2: season and be a plug and play type of guy,
- 3:01Speaker 2: and you feel really good if you're Sean Manning about
- 3:05Speaker 2: the way that you can utilize him as maybe a
- 3:07Speaker 2: Swiss Army knife, then yeah, I think it would be
- 3:10Speaker 2: worth doing that.
- 3:11Speaker 1: It's all about the value is in the eye of
- 3:15Speaker 1: the beholder, and.
- 3:17Speaker 2: We have no way of knowing how the Eagles value
- 3:21Speaker 2: Kenyon Sadik, But I have to imagine that if you
- 3:24Speaker 2: see an aggressive movement to if he falls within a
- 3:27Speaker 2: reasonable range and the Eagles or to go up there
- 3:31Speaker 2: and try to get them, you would that tells you
- 3:33Speaker 2: all you need to know that they view him as
- 3:36Speaker 2: a premier talent that they didn't want to miss out on.
- 3:40Speaker 2: So that would that would be a player that depending
- 3:42Speaker 2: on the situation, I think I would be aggressive to get.
- 3:46Speaker 1: But there's a lot of other tight ends in this class.
- 3:48Speaker 2: I've went through many of them, Eli Stowers, Max Claire,
- 3:51Speaker 2: Oscar Delp, Sam Roush, Johnny Justin Jolie from NC State, and.
- 4:00Speaker 1: It all depends on where how.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Evenly you have these players sort of on your board
- 4:07Speaker 2: and what tiers you have them in. The Eagles have
- 4:09Speaker 2: a horizontal draft board, and yeah, that's an interesting one,
- 4:14Speaker 2: but they certainly do need to pick up a tight
- 4:16Speaker 2: end in this draft, and that's a player that would
- 4:20Speaker 2: be an early impact kind of addition to an offense,
- 4:26Speaker 2: and that's what you're looking for in the first round.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Logical first round picks.
- 4:30Speaker 2: For the Eagles, and this is a podcast that I
- 4:34Speaker 2: wanted to focus in on because it won it's relevant.
- 4:37Speaker 2: But when you gather more information and the picture becomes
- 4:40Speaker 2: a little clear, you're able to kind of whittle some
- 4:44Speaker 2: names down from a personal perspective that I believe would
- 4:47Speaker 2: make sense and be within striking range for the Eagles.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Where they're picking at twenty three could be a few
- 4:54Speaker 2: picks off either way up or down, but it's all
- 4:57Speaker 2: going to be relatively in the same ballpark. And for me,
- 5:00Speaker 2: the number one prospect on my list that I would
- 5:03Speaker 2: run to the podium to get if I'm the Eagles
- 5:05Speaker 2: and I'm not factoring in players falling. I'm talking about
- 5:08Speaker 2: all things being equal, players that would ordinarily be available
- 5:11Speaker 2: or should and that would be maxianach Or, the offensive
- 5:15Speaker 2: tackle from Arizona State. I mentioned before that he's not
- 5:20Speaker 2: quite a multiple ball clay.
- 5:21Speaker 1: He started thirty.
- 5:22Speaker 2: One games over three years for Arizona State, relatively new
- 5:26Speaker 2: to football, so he could stand to maybe use some
- 5:29Speaker 2: seasoning there. But I think when you're the Eagles and
- 5:33Speaker 2: you approach things through the lens of what is this
- 5:38Speaker 2: player going to be in year two or year three?
- 5:40Speaker 2: And you look at the high ceiling that a Maxionachure has,
- 5:45Speaker 2: would you want to lean towards a safer pick like
- 5:48Speaker 2: a Blake Miller from Clemson who has fifty four stars
- 5:51Speaker 2: under his belt, really polished and you kind of have
- 5:55Speaker 2: an idea of what he's going to be he's going
- 5:57Speaker 2: to be a solid pro, or do you want to
- 5:59Speaker 2: swing for the fact And the Eagles have always looked
- 6:03Speaker 2: to hit the home run, and that would be a
- 6:06Speaker 2: player where you look at athleticism, tools, body type, length
- 6:10Speaker 2: and the potential versatility to kick inside.
- 6:13Speaker 1: It would be awfully appealing.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Caden Procter, the offensive tackle from Alabama, is another prospect
- 6:20Speaker 2: that has been.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Mocked to the Eagles.
- 6:24Speaker 2: I mocked Caden Procter to the Eagles in my initial
- 6:27Speaker 2: mock draft, and that's kind of where I anticipate him
- 6:31Speaker 2: coming off the board, somewhere between twenty and where the
- 6:34Speaker 2: Eagles pick at twenty three. Massive offensive tackle, a more
- 6:38Speaker 2: refined and polished product, I would say than Maxionachre, and
- 6:45Speaker 2: I think he might be able to kick inside and
- 6:47Speaker 2: play guard. It depends, but this is someone who's six
- 6:50Speaker 2: foot seven.
- 6:52Speaker 1: I think his weights in the three sixty six.
- 6:55Speaker 2: I believe, and moves well for his size, and he's
- 6:59Speaker 2: powerful can anchor in the run game. He's a pretty
- 7:03Speaker 2: fluid mover relative to his frame and playing at a
- 7:08Speaker 2: high level in which he did for a number of seasons,
- 7:11Speaker 2: that would be someone that you would.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Feel really comfortable with drafting there.
- 7:16Speaker 2: And unlike maybe a Blake Miller, Cayden Proctor also has
- 7:20Speaker 2: a pretty high ceiling in my estimation, and I would
- 7:23Speaker 2: argue that much like maxianatchor, Cayden Proctor's still scratching the surface.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Let's look at the skill position. How about wide receiver
- 7:34Speaker 2: Omar Cooper Junior. And I get a lot of questions
- 7:37Speaker 2: about him. He's a popular name, and I get why
- 7:40Speaker 2: he plays the wide receiver position. He's explosive and dynamic
- 7:45Speaker 2: in space, really lethal after the catch. A lot of
- 7:49Speaker 2: his yards last season came after the catch. Who will
- 7:53Speaker 2: fight for the football when it's in the air. He
- 7:54Speaker 2: can play inside, he can play outside, and his skill
- 7:58Speaker 2: set projects pretty fait favorably in what I'm expecting Sean
- 8:02Speaker 2: Mannion's offense to look like or some of the principles
- 8:05Speaker 2: that I anticipate being in place. Omar Cooper Junior would
- 8:09Speaker 2: seemingly be a really good fit there. The same could
- 8:12Speaker 2: also be said for Arizona state wide receiver Jordan Tyson,
- 8:15Speaker 2: why I like quite a bit. I have him graded
- 8:18Speaker 2: higher than Omar Cooper Junior, and I think Cooper Junior
- 8:21Speaker 2: has a better chance of being there at twenty three.
- 8:24Speaker 2: But if Jordan Tyson's there, another player that you'd have
- 8:28Speaker 2: to think long and hard before turning in the car,
- 8:31Speaker 2: because this could be a game changer in your offense
- 8:35Speaker 2: and presents a different skill set that you don't already have,
- 8:39Speaker 2: and I think he has developmental qualities that to me
- 8:43Speaker 2: suggest that he can handle a fairly sizable workload as
- 8:50Speaker 2: a rookie and step right in. And I don't anticipate
- 8:52Speaker 2: there being a drastic acclamation period. He watched his tape,
- 8:58Speaker 2: I thought he was really refined, and his movements and
- 9:01Speaker 2: what he was asked to do just look like an
- 9:03Speaker 2: nflready prospect, and I like his boss skills. So Jordan
- 9:07Speaker 2: Tyson would be somebody that you might want to look
- 9:10Speaker 2: at edge rusher. Look, it's a position of need. I've
- 9:14Speaker 2: talked about it a lot. I don't know if given
- 9:18Speaker 2: the value, it would make sense to take an edge
- 9:21Speaker 2: rusher at twenty three because unless you're extremely bullish on
- 9:26Speaker 2: the prospects of Keldrick falk Out of Auburn to become
- 9:29Speaker 2: a premier talent, and he's six foot six, two seventy
- 9:33Speaker 2: five long arms, twenty one years old, he has the tools,
- 9:37Speaker 2: but he was a fairly underwhelming pass rusher at Auburn,
- 9:42Speaker 2: and Keiroon Crawford, his fellow pass rusher at Auburn, I
- 9:46Speaker 2: thought was the more impressive player. But I would say
- 9:49Speaker 2: that in theory, Keldrick falk has more upside and he's
- 9:56Speaker 2: his range has fluctuated throughout the board. Maybe he goes
- 10:01Speaker 2: top twenty. And if there's a team, if there's skepticism
- 10:05Speaker 2: about fit and overall production and how that's going to
- 10:10Speaker 2: how that lack of production is going to translate at
- 10:12Speaker 2: the next level, that could be somebody that maybe goes
- 10:17Speaker 2: a little bit lower than what you're seeing on mock drafts,
- 10:19Speaker 2: depending on where you look. But anyway, I don't view
- 10:22Speaker 2: that as a top positional value player at twenty three.
- 10:28Speaker 2: The same can also be said for TJ. Parker out
- 10:31Speaker 2: a Clemson. I view him more as a late first
- 10:33Speaker 2: round guy, and the Eagles need that headliner, and I
- 10:38Speaker 2: understand that not disputing it, don't force it, and there
- 10:43Speaker 2: are other avenues to explore if you want to get
- 10:46Speaker 2: a headline, front of the room edge rusher that can
- 10:51Speaker 2: command a sizable amount of snaps and command attention from
- 10:57Speaker 2: offensive linemen and a lot of what you saw Jalen
- 10:59Speaker 2: Phillips do last season there. I would also say that
- 11:03Speaker 2: I don't think there's a big enough discrepancy between the
- 11:06Speaker 2: edge rushers where the Eagles will be picking in Round
- 11:09Speaker 2: one to what could be available in round two gave
- 11:14Speaker 2: Gave Jackets from Illinois. You have as I had Jay
- 11:19Speaker 2: Sean Barham from Michigan and going to the Eagles at
- 11:22Speaker 2: ninety eight, and there are other players there that I
- 11:26Speaker 2: don't think there's a steep of a drop off as
- 11:28Speaker 2: you might expect from round one to round two. So
- 11:32Speaker 2: edge Rusher, I don't know that I would that I
- 11:34Speaker 2: would lean towards just because it's a need.
- 11:36Speaker 1: You can address it other ways, including the following rounds.
- 11:40Speaker 2: But corner is an interesting one because riek one his
- 11:45Speaker 2: contract expires at the end of the year. If he
- 11:47Speaker 2: has a really good season, which would be great for
- 11:50Speaker 2: the Eagles, obviously, he may have priced himself out of
- 11:54Speaker 2: their budget, given that he's a young player with immense
- 11:57Speaker 2: physical attributes and can run, and he's six foot three
- 12:03Speaker 2: and all those things that you look for in a corner.
- 12:05Speaker 2: If he can put it together this season, he's gonna
- 12:09Speaker 2: get paid on the open market if he doesn't perform well.
- 12:13Speaker 2: What happened to a Dori Jackson where he was just
- 12:16Speaker 2: left up where the team chose not to resign him
- 12:19Speaker 2: could be the same case with Riekee one. And you
- 12:22Speaker 2: have Quanya on Mitchell, you have Cooper Dejen, you don't
- 12:26Speaker 2: have a long term option opposite Quenyon Mitchell. And in
- 12:30Speaker 2: terms of corners where the Eagles will be picking, there's
- 12:34Speaker 2: a name that I'm not quite sure he goes this early,
- 12:40Speaker 2: but I really like the player. It wouldn't surprise me
- 12:43Speaker 2: if he slips into the first round, and that's San
- 12:45Speaker 2: Diego State cornerback Chris Johnson, who I interviewed on Inside
- 12:48Speaker 2: the Birds the check o'daly Special if you can, if
- 12:53Speaker 2: you get a chance to check it out, I think
- 12:55Speaker 2: you'll enjoy it. Good conversation there. But that's a player
- 12:58Speaker 2: that I think his skill set and his football understanding
- 13:03Speaker 2: and versatility and ball skills would translate to a Vic
- 13:08Speaker 2: Fangio defense. For what it's worth, whether or not he's
- 13:11Speaker 2: the twenty third best player or the twenty third player
- 13:15Speaker 2: to come off with board or not, I think that
- 13:16Speaker 2: might be a little aggressive, but I view Chris Johnson
- 13:20Speaker 2: as a top forty five player. His name is generating
- 13:24Speaker 2: has consistently throughout the pre draft process, generated buzz, and
- 13:28Speaker 2: I always say that's coming from the outside. Internally, the
- 13:32Speaker 2: NFL is very well aware of these players, what they're about,
- 13:36Speaker 2: their upside, Chris Johnson not only has impressive performances on
- 13:42Speaker 2: the field and a bright future, but he's also a
- 13:45Speaker 2: very high character person and that was able to be
- 13:49Speaker 2: perceived through or that was really reflected in our conversation there.
- 13:53Speaker 2: You can see that he just gets it and whoever
- 13:57Speaker 2: ends up with him is going to get a good corner.
- 13:59Speaker 2: But that would be the only corner that I would
- 14:00Speaker 2: consider there, and that might be a little bit of
- 14:02Speaker 2: a stretch.
- 14:03Speaker 3: Hey, Philly fans game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,
- 14:07Speaker 3: long lines, We've all been there. But when it comes
- 14:10Speaker 3: to your cannabis, Camden Apothecary makes it easy. This is
- 14:14Speaker 3: the dispensary for sports fans, just minutes outside of Philly,
- 14:18Speaker 3: with plenty of free parking. You'll be in and out fast,
- 14:21Speaker 3: no hassle, no waiting, and they don't just care about convenience.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Camedn Apothecary is all about the guest experience. Their staff
- 14:30Speaker 3: makes sure you feel taken care of every time you
- 14:33Speaker 3: walk in. Plus they carry only the best quality cannabis
- 14:37Speaker 3: at the fairest prices. So whether you're stocking up for
- 14:40Speaker 3: the tailgate, the watch party, or celebrating a big win,
- 14:44Speaker 3: you know you're getting the good stuff without overpaying. They
- 14:48Speaker 3: even show love to the community with specials for fans, students,
- 14:52Speaker 3: service members, and healthcare pros camedn Apothecary, top quality cannabis,
- 14:57Speaker 3: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
- 15:01Speaker 3: one and up.
- 15:03Speaker 1: And then we get to safety. Emmanuel McNeil.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Warren would be the player who would fit in the
- 15:09Speaker 2: twenty three, twenty four to twenty five range, at least
- 15:12Speaker 2: in my estimation.
- 15:13Speaker 1: And I don't know that.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Eagles would take a safety in the first round. History
- 15:17Speaker 2: would suggest that that would be something that is highly unlikely.
- 15:23Speaker 2: It's not a position that they traditionally value. They drafted
- 15:26Speaker 2: Drew mccouba in the second round. They've drafted other safeties
- 15:30Speaker 2: over the years, and whether it was Nate Allen or
- 15:34Speaker 2: ja Quin Jay, I mean, I'm going back some years,
- 15:36Speaker 2: but normally it's been something that they I mean in
- 15:40Speaker 2: twenty twenty three and I'm not equating it to that,
- 15:42Speaker 2: but they had justin Evans, they had Terrell Edmonds, they
- 15:45Speaker 2: traded for Kevin Byrd. There are ways that they can
- 15:48Speaker 2: add another safety, and based off of what Howie Roseman
- 15:50Speaker 2: said in his pre draft presser. It certainly sounded like
- 15:54Speaker 2: they are not finished at that position, nor was that
- 15:57Speaker 2: my expectation. You'd taken one players into training camp and
- 16:04Speaker 2: the safety room is still really light. So it doesn't
- 16:06Speaker 2: take a mathematician to figure out that you need more
- 16:09Speaker 2: numbers in that room for it to work. Just even
- 16:13Speaker 2: for the sheer thought of practice reps, you need to
- 16:17Speaker 2: have enough players to get through practice. And yeah, so
- 16:21Speaker 2: I'm expecting them to add one, whether it's the draft,
- 16:23Speaker 2: whether it's a June first cut, whether it's a draft pick.
- 16:28Speaker 2: That's something that I'm sure but has to the value
- 16:31Speaker 2: has to be right. They're not just going to take
- 16:33Speaker 2: a player because it's a position of need. But Emmanuel
- 16:36Speaker 2: McNeil Warren, as far as first round safeties go, that
- 16:39Speaker 2: would be realistic, would be there at twenty three in
- 16:42Speaker 2: all likelihood, six foot three or four went to Toledo,
- 16:46Speaker 2: good ball skills, rangey, lengthy safety with a unique frame
- 16:53Speaker 2: that I think would pair really really effectively opposite Drew
- 16:58Speaker 2: mccoba if that ever, if that scenario were to play out.
- 17:02Speaker 2: So those are just some of the names to familiarize
- 17:04Speaker 2: yourself with. Or's the kleb Blomeu offensive tackle out of Utah.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Really young and raw, but I think he goes maybe
- 17:10Speaker 2: a little higher than where the Eagles might be just
- 17:13Speaker 2: out of reach there.
- 17:15Speaker 1: But that's another name to to.
- 17:19Speaker 2: Know, certainly, but maybe a highlight when you're looking at
- 17:21Speaker 2: some of those late first round tackles. So for now,
- 17:24Speaker 2: that's going to do it for this episode of the
- 17:26Speaker 2: Czech O Daily. It's Andrew Dechecko signing off and I'll
- 17:29Speaker 2: catch you all on the next one.
