2:43
start out, though, but getting into one of my favorite topics, and
2:46
that's music. And the only thing better than me talking music is me getting
2:49
talk getting to talk to some local music. And when I say local,
2:53
I mean I mean a guy who is from here but is now going national
2:58
and worldwide and has been for some time. Stephen Thomas is his name,
3:00
and he's joined us this morning to the par Mar Store studio. Stephen,
3:04
good morning, Welcome to the show man. Hey, what's up? Good
3:06
morning, Dave. How you doing. You got to see how things really
3:08
work behind the scenes here because we had a moment of panic just before you
3:12
went on with some technical issues and computer issues and printer issues or whatever.
3:15
And I literally came downstairs and shook your head and said, nice to meet
3:21
you. I gotta I got some stuff. So it's uh, it's but
3:24
once once the on air light comes on, just like you know, I
3:27
know you've been doing some TV stuff. It's all magic, right, It's
3:30
all magic, all magic, man. Listen, it's been it's been crazy.
3:34
But you know what, It's okay though, because it all worked right.
3:37
It all works out. As my dad used to say, it'll either
3:38
work out or it won't right, So that father logic, right, father
3:44
logic. Man, We gonna make it work though. You just you just
3:46
got to find a way. You just got to find a way, man.
3:47
So for those who don't know, give us the buyo on on.
3:51
Stephen Thomas. Let's see, I am a number two iTunes charting artist,
3:57
been considered for a total of five Grammys from the state of West Virginia.
4:00
Represent the West, represent the state very well as much as I can.
4:03
Now. Now we're as home for you. Where are you from? Charleston?
4:08
Can't get more local than that, right, can't get more local,
4:10
man, Charleston is where I'm from for sure. Let's see, man,
4:13
I've dj' on ninety eight point seven, so we're one oh seven point three.
4:16
So shout out the DJ what he was, Shout out the nephew,
4:19
running, running and producing back here at one. The next generation, the
4:23
next generation, you know what I mean. Got to shout him out,
4:26
and uh man, you know so. I've filmed a couple of music videos
4:30
in West Virginia as well. Best Days Like It or Not. Best Days
4:32
was the song that hit number two on the charts, and just recently,
4:38
I just released a new single called back Home, a new song called back
4:41
Home, and it has been gaining a lot of media attraction, which I'm
4:45
sure that's while we're here today, So that's a that's a great thing.
4:48
And we have been on Now I am now a new and recent active rock
4:55
mainstream radio consecutive can a six week well now going on seven week consecutive charting
5:03
artists for radio. I mean, and I listened to your hop at your
5:06
interview on Hoppy Yes a couple of weeks ago that you did, and if
5:11
anybody stopped you in an elevator or at a restaurant said what kind of music
5:15
do you do? You would probably say sit down? How much time have
5:17
you got? Right right? Right right? I definitely would. I definitely
5:20
would, because I am that artist that is universal. I'm a universal artist
5:25
all the way through and through. And uh, I've man, I'm probably
5:28
gonna be at about seven different genres by the time I'm done. And uh
5:31
and one of those obviously you said active rock. Yeah, so it be,
5:34
so it'd be. I started on a Christian music crossed over into R
5:38
and B. I have pop, I now have rock and of course alternative,
5:44
and then I'm getting ready to go and then I guess, and then
5:48
R and B of course, and then like I said, and then you
5:50
have a country getting ready to go country? So actually want to last opera?
5:56
I mean, man, you know what, that's a hard one.
5:58
I just met somebody just mess upbody in New York. I just we just
6:00
came from New York. As I was telling As I was telling my man'
6:03
z Dog, I call you z Dog, Steve Animal. Yeah, yeah,
6:06
man, he's so funny. But I was just telling him. I
6:09
was like, man, we just came from New York and we were just
6:12
filming actually the music video for back Home. So and I was telling I
6:15
met somebody that sings opera and I'm like, I don't know how you do
6:17
it. I just don't get I don't know how y'all do all of that.
6:20
Like I really I think that is just something special that you really like.
6:26
You just have to really learn that thing. I don't know how they
6:28
do it. I just don't get it. So I'm going to presume,
6:31
like when I talk to any musician, they always say that there was never
6:33
a time in their life that music wasn't a part of it. I'm gonna
6:36
go ahead and guess that was probably the way that you came up as well.
6:41
Yes, uh, you know what's really funny. I mean, whether
6:43
it's music in the home or the church or whatever, Well, what's really
6:46
funny is that music was just all in my DNA before I was even born
6:49
exactly, I kid you not. So I'm my mother's miracle baby, which
6:54
is pretty cool, right, but not only in my her miracle baby.
6:57
But the only time that they could get me to move inside the womb is
7:00
either she drunk mountain dew. I kid, you not tell you the most
7:03
West Virginia thank the most West Virginia thing, right, So she had to
7:06
drink mountain dew, or or they play music. And they said most of
7:12
the time they have to do both, and a lot of times they had
7:14
to play music. So then after I'm born, I'm just this cool little
7:17
baby that was crying, right. So then the only way they can get
7:20
me to be quiet was they played music videos. So I'm like one or
7:23
two years old watching music videos on TV. She says, the best thing
7:27
for me to do. I was the best baby. I was, like,
7:29
for real, she said, was it? So it's been in me?
7:31
No, were some of those early influences for you as a baby when
7:34
you're watching the music videos? Oh you know what, I probably don't remember,
7:39
but I'll tell you this though. My dad man, and you know
7:43
my mom she's you know, all about the church background, but my dad
7:46
was all about the James Brown and the Stylistics and you know, the boys
7:48
to men guys and then then he comes out of nowhere, left field and
7:53
ends up liking Randy Travis. I was like with them the world it is
7:57
so the next thing I know, now it's just getting in me like that
8:00
diversification is really getting in me. Of listening to a Randy Travis, a
8:05
Chris Stapleton, adjusted Timberlake, a Blink one eighty two. Now I'm listening
8:09
to you know, the Ray Charles, the Stevie one is the Chris Browns,
8:13
the Usher. So I mean I just named so many different artists,
8:16
so many different places. Michael Jackson, Prince, you know, it's Lenny
8:20
Kravitz. Like, it's just ridiculously crazy that all of this is in me.
8:26
Caine Brown, Jimmy Allen, I have my country record is gonna be
8:28
a Jimmy Allen, a Caine Brown and a Justin bieber On one. That's
8:33
that's gonna be something that I can't There's gonna be somebody here. Here's the
8:37
thing about though, Steven and I have said this, and it's a lot
8:39
easier now for people to experience different types of music because it's at your fingertips,
8:45
it's on your phone, it really is. I'm an old guy,
8:46
Okay, I'm a gen X guy. What so so growing up growing up
8:50
in the seventies and eighties, ok I mean, we had we had to
8:52
really reach and a lot of us discovered various genres of music because of albums
8:58
that we had that My father was all he was in a gospel group,
9:03
but he was all over the place as far as his music goes. He
9:05
you know, little Richard. I grew up listening to Little Richard, who
9:07
was the king of rock and roll. By the way, with all due
9:09
respect that Little Richard advantage, so but a little bit. But then on
9:13
the other side of the family, you know, we had so many different
9:16
genres. My grandfather loved classic country music. Yes, And so my point
9:22
is in saying that is to say, nothing irritates me more than people to
9:26
say I like rap, I like pop, I like give everything a chance
9:31
and they find something that you like because you never I mean, you never
9:35
know. And honestly, that is what happened with my song back Home.
9:37
That is literally what's been happening so exclusive news while we were performing behind the
9:43
scenes on you know, while I was recording the music video of in New
9:48
York A couple of days ago. We're in Brooklyn. I'm I'm around the
9:50
Brooklyn Bridge Dumbo area, and I kid you not, like we have his
9:54
speaker. I'm just performing live. Everybody's listening. But then people just stop.
10:00
They just start watching me just perform live, and of course I'm doing
10:03
the song, but they don't understand, like we're really shooting the video.
10:07
So as we're shooting the video, our kid you not. I have different
10:11
ethnicities, so many different people from different countries coming to us between takes,
10:18
asking my my director, asking my my my manager, asking the stylist,
10:22
like asking coming to me and saying, hey, can we get a picture?
10:26
Can we find out? Like who is this guy? This song is
10:30
called? What is it called? What is you know? Where is this
10:31
from? And all of these people are from different countries. They're from I
10:37
mean Russia. I met a lady from from like China, Asia, I
10:41
mean, you know, America. I mean just all of these different places
10:46
and they're coming and asking about this song. Yeah, that's good stuff,
10:50
and I'm like, that's that's we went super international now, baby, So
10:54
how do you go from me and the kid I mean you said, you
10:56
know, you did radio here, you were on the beat and and how
10:58
but how do you know from the skid from Charleston, suddenly you're filming a
11:01
music video in Brooklyn? How does that happen? Oh Man? Number one?
11:07
God, for sure, it's just been a blessing. And the next
11:11
thing would be, I've been at this since I was seventeen, released my
11:16
first album at seventeen, and I just kept going from there, and I
11:20
just kept building, kept building, kept building. And you know, a
11:22
lot of people, you know, we talk about how I guess they would
11:26
say because of the population in different places, different states, they have more
11:31
of a population than we do. So I'm like, yeah, and it
11:33
makes it tough sometime because you got to work a little extra harder, you
11:37
know what I mean, to really get that recognition or to get in touch
11:41
with those resources that you know that you may need that some other places don't
11:45
have. So I would say, you know, going from that to now,
11:48
it's just been a building stage. Like it's just been building block after
11:54
building block after building block. And that's and that's what I would say.
11:56
I've just stayed persistent. I mean, starting you know here in Charleston,
12:01
you know, getting myself around what he was, getting myself around people that
12:05
are in my area and my lifestyle of where I was looking to go,
12:11
and now here it is that I'm in it. Wow, that's amazing,
12:13
you know what I'm saying. So where do we go from here? Man?
12:16
Up? Right? Right? Besides up, all I can say is
12:20
that from the way it's looking, man, we're being told that I'm next.
12:26
That's just that's just what the multiple of people that have heard this song,
12:33
they're like, man, when it's getting ready to happen, and so
12:37
we know it's coming. We just know it's coming. And I mean not
12:41
only that, but I mean I just feel My first Amazon Music commercial for
12:45
back Home, Back Home hit over nine hundred thousand views by itself. The
12:50
Amazon Music commercial has almost hit a million views by itself, and it's my
12:56
first first Amazon Music commercial ever. And so we have that going on.
13:01
Then you also have a shoot, we're getting ready to release another another record
13:07
called stay Strong. So now I'm getting ready to get prepared for that release
13:11
that's coming. Shout out to the military, Shout out to people that are
13:13
dealing with diseases and life and things like that. It's gonna be dedicated to
13:18
them, and that was called stay Strong. And then I just got out
13:20
of the studio right before I went to New York and recorded another record.
13:24
I just don't know who we want to name it yet. I just don't
13:28
know what I want to name that one yet. But I mean, we're
13:31
we're building the catalog, and it seems like active rock for right now is
13:35
the It seems like rocking the rocking alternative is the thing for me. But
13:39
the crazy part is is that the pop genres and and other genres are picking
13:43
this song up unexpectedly. We didn't even market this song in the Christian rock
13:48
market pop, we didn't market this song there, and back Home is getting
13:52
picked up unexpectedly in different genres. That's that's what it's all about, too.
13:58
And it's about bringing And again I'm not trying to sound like I'll go
14:01
all we all we are the world here right right, But but this is
14:03
what music is supposed to do. It's universe supposed to bring people together together.
14:09
And for people to say, well you shouldn't like that because you look
14:11
like this, or because you're this color or whatever, you should what difference
14:15
does it make music since you said it right. Yeah, that is the
14:18
funny part. Yeah, so it's been. It's been one of those matter
14:22
of fact, even the guitar guy. So you know, I just told
14:26
you. I had another interview yesterday, like we had to go in it.
14:28
We had to be in another state. And here it is. We
14:31
did this. We did this interview yesterday and the guy that played the guitar
14:35
for me, his name is John and shout out to John Man. He
14:37
really looked out. But I kid you not. One of the things that
14:39
he said was he said, some buddies of his send him in the article
14:43
from Toms West Virginia and Fairmont. They did a story on me and last
14:48
week he said, man, I've seen this and he said, so,
14:50
I got the article, I saw your picture and then they played the song.
14:56
He said said, wait, these two didn't add up. It's just
14:58
like I said, yeah, I said, totally understandable of me. And
15:01
that is like the best thing because I am the element of surprise to you.
15:07
And when you hear this and then you see me, you're like,
15:11
where did this come from? And I'm like, that is the most beautiful
15:13
thing, because a masterpiece comes from the most awkwardest places in life. That's
15:18
a good way to end it. But I do want to find out where
15:22
can people learn more about you? Where can they get your music? We're
15:24
going to listen to your music. And where are you headed next? Well?
15:28
Follow me at Stephen T Music on instagram s, t E p h
15:31
e N T Music, Stephen T Music on Instagram, all social media,
15:35
stephntmusic dot com, on my website, and where we're headed to next?
15:39
Man? Who knows? All I know is we're just we're busy. So
15:43
I do know. I got some interviews coming up. We got LA coming
15:46
up. So I got some we got some we got some stuff coming up,
15:50
man, And I think the all I can say is I won't even
15:54
say. I think I'll say I know. But the music video is going
15:56
to be crazy. I can't wait till everyone gets to really see it.
16:00
And man, Dave, I hope you check it out. I will and
16:03
share it, man, Just tell everyone to share back home, Please share
16:07
back home, tag it, tag me, tag Dave, share this interview,
16:12
share it with the people, share with everybody you know. And mainly
16:15

16:36

16:37
way. They could just go to your website or contact information, go to

16:56
all over and you know, we're getting asked about regatta and multifests and things
17:02
like that. I'm seeing comments of people asking when is he performing here?
17:04
And I'm like, look, I can't say anything. I don't have no
17:07
control over nothing. But all I know is I'm ready to come back home
17:11
and do the dog one thing, all right, man, well, I
17:14
think you're gonna do the dog gun thing. I really do, Steven Thomas.
17:17
I appreciate you being here man. Thanks all to hang out with me.

19:47
welcome to the show. Crescent Gallagher from Americans for Prosperity. Good morning,
19:49
sir, how are you? Good morning, Dave? Thanks for having me.
19:52
You got a tough act to follow. Following Stephen Thomas Man, I
19:56
mean but you you're like me. No sense, no rap right no no
20:00
no no no no playing guitars no, nothing, no, no, no,
20:03
just sports. That's all I care. But we were talking about he's
20:06
a Guardians fan. Yep, so you are, so you you got a
20:08
lot to be happy. You and my brother in law Ron are pretty happy
20:11
right now. Yeah. I think we're first in the AL and you know,
20:15
ahead of the Yankees. So the power of friendship is winning over big
20:18
dollars right now. Right we talked sports all day. Uh but uh,
20:22
do you want to be like everyone else and weigh in on the mental capacity
20:26
of President Biden? I mean, because here's the thing, and that's what
20:30
I come in here every day and I say I'm not going to talk about
20:32
it, and I get ten texts people wanted to talk about it. I
20:37
didn't want to go down that road. But you got anything you want to
20:40
add to that? Before we get to things in West Virginia. You know,
20:41
if I was a West Virginia Democrat candidate, I'd be really concerned about
20:45
one Biden's cognitive behavior and how that affects your cancy here in West Virginia,
20:51
but also his failed policies. I don't know how Biden's go get above thirty
20:55
percent of the state. I know we're heavy Trump but that's going to have
20:59
some down ballot applications that you know, if I'm rtning state wide as a
21:03
Democrat, I'm afraid for my life. Right now, I want to talk
21:07
to you, Chris about something that just hit earlier this week. I guess
21:11
you called it the twenty twenty five Pathway to Prosperity Agenda. What I'd like
21:15
to do, if you don't mind, is I would just like to I
21:19
guess I say this kind of a wish list or goals. Is that?
21:23
Is that pretty much? A? Yeah? Yeah. We typically released this
21:27
right before legslay session with some specific ass of the legislature. This time around,
21:32
we're starting in July because we see an unprecedented opportunity once we elect Patrick
21:37
Morrissey as our next governor. One, he's a big policy champion and he's
21:41
going to take on those tough challenges. But two, Dave, we've never
21:45
had a day one Republican governor with super majorities in the House and Senate that's
21:49
willing to take on this and get some big policy wins. So we released
21:53
our Pathway to Prosperity legslave Agenda this past week. It has some broad issues
21:59
we want to talk about and get salency with the people of West Virginia.
22:03
And we're going to be connecting people at the door, which is what we
22:07
do. It's the thing we do every election cycle. But now we're switching
22:11
to more policy focus. We talk to people, thousands of people every week
22:15
about these broad policy issues. But also we're doing some radio buys, we're
22:19
doing some digital buys to really get radio buys. Yep, yep, it's
22:23
coming day, don't we Right now, you have my attention, Go ahead,
22:26
But we're gonna be talking about these issues at a very broad level because
22:30
we want to set the foundation for what we believe will be some big policy
22:34
wins coming down the pipeline in twenty twenty five. And beyond, what I
22:37
want to do is I want to take the bullet points that you put out
22:41
on this I just want to have you to expand upon everyone, to expand
22:45
education freedom. Yeah. So, Dave, we have some of the best
22:48
education laws in the country. We have a great open enrollment law. We
22:52
passed the Hope Scholarship, which you saw is going to expand in twenty twenty
22:56
six to all students outside of the public schools system. Really, what our
23:00
focus needs to be on is public schools. How do we fix public schools?
23:04
So do we need to remove barriers that prevent teachers from teaching? How
23:08
do we allow teachers to individualize students and they're learning just like you can get
23:14
outside of the public school realm? And frankly, we keep spending more and
23:18
more money on public schools, but a lot of that's going to administrative bloat,
23:22
and frankly, more of it needs to be going to teachers and helping
23:26
teachers and supporting them at the school level to help their students really succeed.
23:30
To fix health care, you and everyone else wanted to fix healthcare, But
23:34
what specifically would you want does your want to get done? Yeah, healthcare
23:38
is too expensive, it's too complicated. My fiance is a nurse practitioner.
23:42
She complains about it every single day and she works in a a health clinic.
23:47
But our number one priority is we have to get rid of certificate knee
23:52
laws in this state. For your listeners that don't know what certificate need is,
23:56
it's a government board that okays. When a okay is when a business
24:00
wants to come in and expand medical services in your area, bring new medical
24:03
services to your area. It's a lengthy process, it's expensive, and worse
24:07
of all, when a possible competitor doesn't like what you're doing, they can
24:11
come in and try to torpedo the whole thing. So a lot of states
24:15
have gone rid of certificate need laws, South Carolina being the most recent,
24:18
weren't outlier at this point. In South Carolina, they're seeing already millions and
24:22
millions of dollars investment in new medical services. So our number one priority is
24:26
getting rid of certificate in need in West Virginia, lower taxes and spending.
24:32
You know, Dave, this is a timely issue. In twenty twenty three,
24:34
we passed the largest tax cut in state history, a twenty one and
24:38
a half percent tax cut to your income tax. Best of all, in
24:41
that law, we put in triggers that will eventually eliminate the state income tax
24:47
in the state of West Virginia. Now, Governor Justice has announced we're going
24:49
to see a three to four percent trigger, the first one that ever happened.
24:53
So obviously that law is working and lawmakers are keeping the budget flat.
24:57
What he's asking for is in additional five percent, and our caveat with that
25:02
is, yes, let's continue to decrease taxes, but we have to do
25:06
the hard thing and couple that with decreased spending. You know, as someone
25:10
that used to work at the legislature, the easiest thing for lawmakers do is
25:12
spend your money. The hardest thing for them to do is actually shrink the
25:15
size of government and cut some spending. I want to as a follow up
25:19
to that, and you kind of touch down a little bit again. We're
25:22
talking with Chress and Gallagher from Americans for Prosperity. Does I don't want to
25:26
put you on a spot here, but does your group support the governor's plan
25:29
the lower taxes? You know, we want to eliminate the income tax.
25:33
So however we get there, let's do that. Like I said, the
25:34
one caveat is we have to couple that with decreasing spending. Let's actually shrink
25:40
the size of government. Now, that might be hard to get done in
25:41
a special session. Maybe we have to wait for a governor, the next
25:45
governor come in and look at the books and really work with the legislature on
25:48
cutting spending. But we've talked to lawmakers. They feel like we can get
25:52
these one time obligations done and cut spending. We've talked to the Revenue WHO
25:56
Secretary Larry Pack. He also believes that it sounds like he's going to present
26:00
a plan that shows we can do both of these things. So as long
26:03
as that makes sense and we look at actual cutting spending, yeah, we
26:07
would support it. And when you refer to the next governor, obviously your
26:10
group has been one of those that was really out front in supporting Patrick Morrisey
26:14
early on that in that crowded Republican field, your group was one out there.
26:18
I'm going to go ahead and presume that you're presuming it's going to be
26:19
Yeah, Patrick Morrison. I mean, I think you saw the fundraising numbers
26:22
that just came out. I mean, Patrick Morrissey is one of the hardest
26:26
workers in the state. He has a true vision for West Virginia. I
26:29
know he's going to get the job done. He will win in November,
26:32
it's almost certain. And frankly, with what's going on, like I said,
26:34
with Biden and Biden nomics at the federal level, it's gonna be really
26:37
hard for any Democrat to win. So we're looking forward to continue to work
26:41
with Patrick Morrissey on some big policy wins once he wins In November twenty seven
26:45

27:02
agenda as well. I'm glad you saved this one for last because this is
27:03
my favorite. Take you on the person I know that would say I get
27:07
excited about regulatory reform. Well, it's the administrative state. As a former
27:11
bureaucrat myself, I know what the administrative state looks like in West Virginia.
27:15
But we have to get the government out a way of people realizing their version
27:19
of the American dream. That includes licensure reform. Out of Arizona, they
27:23
they did some licensure reform. They saw five thousand skilled laborers move to their
27:27
state. We also have to look at boards and commissions and regulations that don't
27:30
need to exist. Out of Wisconsin, they have something called the Rains Act,
27:34
which stopped a lot of erroneous regulations from even being considered by unelected bureaucrats.
27:41
Honestly, it's like the It's probably the biggest thing the next governor could
27:44
do is take on the administrative state and actually streamline and shrink government. And
27:48
I think it's going to take a real governor to take on that task.
27:52
And I will say, as someone who I'll also say former bureaucrat, you're
27:56
I know what you're talking about. There are a lot of hard working people
28:00
in state government, do not get me wrong. And I worked with a
28:03
lot of them. I'm sure you did in your time there, But especially
28:06
when you get to the folks making a lot of the bigger salaries. We're
28:08
not talking about you know, the average person in the offices. We're talking
28:12
there's a lot of bloat there. I'm not gonna lie well, and David,
28:15
it's hard to even hire people. There's just so many regulations, and
28:19
I mean you probably know this. It takes six months to buy something and
28:22
it takes six months to hire a position. A lot of these positions remain
28:26
vacant. That's not helping the people West Virginia. We have to get in
28:30
there. And like the worst thing I ever heard when I was at the
28:33
Department bag was well, we've always done it this way. Well, technology
28:37
changes, times change, maybe we need to look at the processes and that's
28:41
really where we need to go on take on the administrative state and understand if
28:45
does these regulations need to exist, Is this the way we have to do
28:48
things? How do we eat streamline government to better serve the people in West
28:52
Virginia. And I think it's very important that you point out when you say
28:56
there are a lot of these positions in state government that are unfilled. Oddly,
29:00
they tend to not be the higher salary. Once the directors administrative you
29:06
know, they say to be okay, it's the average person, you know,
29:08
manning the phones or manning the computers and all. That's where the openings
29:12
are. It's not at director level positions, crassling, you know that,
29:17
it's at the it's at the average salary. That's where the problems. That's
29:21
where the vacancies are. Man well, and we both worked for at Will
29:22
agencies and it was a little different. But if you're one of these other
29:26
agencies that's under the governor's umbrella, you're you're tied to division and personnel regulations
29:32
and it's sometimes impossible to move things and have some flexibility to get these jobs
29:37
hired. I've talked to plenty of people that work in these agencies, and
29:40
it's a nightmare to even get these positions filled. And then what services are
29:42
being done because it's just a vacant job. You care to take some texts?
29:48
We have a couple of texts here, sure, always one of them
29:49
is about baseball, so we'll end with that one. Okay, tex says,
29:55
are you going to protect this is aimed at me? Are you going
29:56
to protect this Republican from the tough questions? Have your republic looking guests explain
30:00
why sex abuse is okay in a presidential candidate, which immigrants are poisoning,
30:03
why pardoning January sixth criminals and excusing political violence is a Republican party platform?
30:10
Well, Dave, I wish your Texter would do some some basic research.
30:14
We Americans prosperity are not behind Donald Trump. We actively supported Nikki Haley during
30:19
the primary, so you know our concern is now that we've lost that race,
30:25
we're more focused on US Center races, congressional races, and state races
30:29
and making sure that we fight back against some of Biden's policies that are really
30:33
wrecking this country and forcing inflation through the roof. So you're not you're not
30:37
backing Donald Trump? No, No, not at all. So I know,
30:40
I know you either have to be on one side or the other,
30:41
like sometimes there's other and there's other places you can be. But you know,
30:47
we're more against Biden and his policies. All right, Texas, Dave,
30:49
The people's number one concern is getting the PSC under control, runaway utility
30:55
bills we need to vote on board members. Is that something you've ever gotten
30:57
into. No, And that's you know, the government next governors go have
31:00
a lot of control over the board members. What we're interested is is energy
31:04
policy that uses all resources, so everything under the sun. I know,
31:08
nuclear is a is a personal passion of mine. It's something we should be
31:12
looking at. And then the state of West Virginia has passed some laws that
31:17
allow us to even pursue those options. So if nuclear can ever get to
31:19
that level, we could actually have some giant headlining. Yeah in the paper
31:23
this morning, Biden Science Capitol Nuclear bill, yep. And that's that's a
31:26
great thing we should be looking at. We need to be using all energy
31:30
resources. Fossool, fugls renewables and nuclear to really lower energy costs in the
31:33
United States, Tech says, and we'll let you go on this one.
31:37
One solution to public education is the termination of teachers unions and replace it with
31:41
a student union. Can you imagine if the energy, money and resources went
31:45
into improving the student instead of a goal of only getting perks for teachers.
31:49
Well, you know, frankly, we don't have strong teacher unions in the
31:52
state of West Virginia. But you know, unions in general have been a
31:56
hindrance at just you know, it's all about the leaders up. We need
32:00
to provide more resources to the actual teachers and let them have less regulations on
32:05
how they can better serve their students. So let's funnel more money to teachers
32:08
and less the unions. Where can people learn more about Americans for Prosperity.
32:13
Well, the website we have now is West Virginia Pathway dot com. That's
32:17
where we can you can learn about more of our Pathway to Prosperity and how
32:22
we really want to affect the state of West Virginia for a better, better
32:24
future. All Right, the final text here, Who are the Guardians?
32:29
That's the artist formerly known as the Indians, right, yeah, and frankly
32:32
I understand why they changed the name. I was hoping they go back to
32:37
the Spiders, which is one of the was their original name back in the
32:39
eighteen hundreds, and there was some talk about that in Cleveland. Yeah,
32:44
and I saw some jersey designs that they were very cool. I think it
32:46
would have been really great to go back to the original name. So,
32:51
you know, Guardians is fine, I get Have you ever seen the bridge?
32:53
Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, it's it's fine. I'm more concerned
32:57
about them winning, not the name. There you go, There'll always be

37:34
and that has to do with cell phones in schools. The Ohio County Ohio
37:38
County in West Virginia Board of Education is considering a proposal to ban or at
37:44
the very least restrict cell phone usage in schools. Carrie hoo de Sect has
37:50
been following the story closely and she's going to join Hoppy to discuss that.
37:52
Yesterday, Hoppy had a poll on X the artist formerly known as Twitter,
37:58
asking just the folks following Hoppy, would you favor a ban on cell phones
38:05
in school? And I didn't check the numbers this morning, but as of
38:07
yesterday, overwhelmingly the people that responded said yes, yes they would. So

we're going to get into that a little bit right actually, Carry and Hopy

39:15

39:19
a terrible person, says a texture. You are preaching to the proverbial choir,
39:23
it says tex Texter. They've said, they've says a texture. Trump
39:31
and Republicans need to stop hiring illegal labor, and if they do, need
39:36
to take away business licenses. I've said that. I can't speak specifically about
39:40
Trump, but I've said that a lot. There is a reason if you
39:45
want to if you want to slow I mean, people are coming here because
39:49
they want a better life. For the most part for them. There are
39:51
exceptions, but they're coming here because they want a better life and they want
39:53
to work. And so until business and industry in this country stops hiring illegal
40:00
aliens, they're going to continue to come here. Now that having been said,
40:05
let me flip the coin. The reason they're hiring illegal aliens is because
40:08
Americans don't want to work for the most part, That's why they're hiring them.
40:13
So you can see it's kind of a circle here. You know,
40:15
they're coming here because of the jobs. The corporations are hiring them. They're
40:20
hiring them because Americans won't fill the jobs. Bottom line. Did you happen
40:25
to catch Center Financial chair Eric Tarr on the show yesterday? If not,
40:31
it's a good time for me to remind you that you can go back and
40:34
listen to any part of the show at your convenience at wchsnetwork dot com or
40:39
on the social media pages at WCCHS or my personal pages Dave Allen Radio on
40:45
Facebook, or at Dave a seventy on x, or from your favorite podcast
40:49
provider. It was an interesting interview with Senator Tara yesterday. To say the
40:53
least of notes a lot of people that I talked about talk to rather the
41:00
show yesterday was the response that Senator Tar gave to the question I posed to
41:07
him. And I didn't really plan it, and it just sometimes they just
41:09
kind of come out. I said, are you Senator Tar supporting Governor Jim
41:15
Justice in his bid for Senate and he point blank said no. He did
41:22
note he will not be voting for the Democratic alternative Glen Elliott, current mayor
41:27
of Wheeling, which you know he wasn't going to do that, But Senator
41:30
Tarr said yesterday he will not be voting for Jim Justice, and the Senator
41:37
talked about his fears that Governor Justice could could Eric Tarsworts could change parties once
41:49
he gets to Washington. Now, personally, I don't see that happening,
41:53
but you never know. Go back and listen to the interview if you have
41:59
time from yesterday and again it's available to a variety of different places. Speaking
42:04
of Senator Tar again, after his appearance on the show yesterday, I had
42:09
several texts about things he had said about the Governor's proposed tax cuts, the
42:15
budget surplus, etc. Etc. Now, as is the case with nearly
42:20
all the text of the show, I read them on the air, unless
42:22
I just simply run out of time or there are some I get that are
42:25
just ridiculous. I do try to read them all. I do my best.
42:30
Sometimes I'll read them the next day, but I'll try to get him
42:32
in there. I read some of the anti Tar texts yesterday and the Senator
42:40
was listening Inkye Senator as he was driving and leaving the studio, and he
42:46
asked if he could come back next week to address the comments and concerns of
42:53
many of you of my listeners about the budget surplus, the Governor's proposed tax
42:58
cuts, etc. So let me just say this, Senator Tar will be
43:01
back on the show next Tuesday, and I'm putting him at the top of
43:07
the show. So circle that on your calendar Tuesday, July sixteenth, nine
43:13
oh seven, and the Senator is going to be taking your phone calls and
43:19
texts. And the text are fine, but I'm gonna be honest with you.
43:23
He and I talked and we would much rather have phone calls. I
43:28
love my texters, but I'd much rather have phone calls. And he specifically
43:31
said that himself, and one of the things I have always said about Senator
43:37
Tar and he and I our few full disclosure. We're great friends, have
43:43
been for some time, but he and I don't always agree on everything.
43:45
There are several things we strongly disagree on. But Senator Tar will gladly answer
43:52
any questions and he's always willing to address concerns when he's on this show.
43:58
I've had him on one show in the past four as long as an hour,
44:01
and he said, bring them on. Not every political figure that I
44:07
have on this show, Republican and Democrats do that. There are a few,
44:12
but Senator Tar when he comes in here, says, I want to
44:15
talk to the people. So if you're one of the people yesterday that had
44:17
some negative things to say about some of the things, that's perfectly fine.
44:21
Don't get me wrong. If you were one of the people that had some
44:24
questions some concerns about some of the things that Senator Tara talked about, I
44:29
urge you to listen in next too. I'll arde you listening every day,
44:35
but next Tuesday at nine oh seven, because Senator Tar is going to take
44:38
the air and we want phone calls. He wants to talk to you,
44:44
so you can text. We'll read the text, but we'd much rather call
44:46
and ask him questions one on one. Senator Tar back on the show next
44:52
Tuesday for the first segment. I'll hold him over for a couple of segments
44:54
and we have to so you have you have been notified. But Dave Allen

48:15
I had a text of that said about that Dave heard the other texture talking
48:20
about inflation. Out of curiosity, I recently reloaded my online Walmart Kart from
48:24
November of twenty twenty one. I had to make some adjustments because some items
48:30
are not available now. But basically, what was one hundred and seventy eight
48:34
dollars or so in twenty twenty one is now two hundred and thirty four dollars
48:38
and fifty three cents this year. That is almost a thirty two percent increase
48:45
in less than three years, says a texture. You know I'm not a
48:47
math guy, so I will take that texture's math to heart. I will
48:52
say this when, and I've said this before, the average person when they
48:58
go to the grocery store, no matter who is in the White House,
49:02
and you can say inflation has gone down and okay, it has, but
49:07
people are still paying more for the products, and that's what they are concerned
49:12
about. And if it's the guy or the lady or whomever in the White
49:15
House, be it Republican, be it Democrat, whatever, that person's going
49:20
to get blamed for it. They're going to get blamed for it. That's
49:22
just kind of kind of the way it happens. And this time it happened
49:24
to be Biden. And there's a big headline on the television here I'm watching
49:29
it says Biden campaign losing celebrity support. George Clooney is one of those I
49:35
think that noted as Steven Allen Adams said that note of political pundit George Clooney.
49:39
I do want to mention the passing of former Charleston City council member Robert
49:44
Sheets. He served three terms total between twenty seven twenty twenty two. The
49:49
mayor issued statement yesterday talking about his contributions to the city into his service.
49:52
So our thoughts and prayers go to his family and friends. For sure.
49:58
I mentioned this yes yesterday, but I want to make sure everyone knows about
50:01
it. This afternoon, starting at five, there's going to be a public
50:05
hearing concerning the KRT system in the Charleston area. Now, as you know,
50:09
there has been a talk of doing some streamlining, possibly ending some routes
50:16
with that, and there's a lot of concern So this is your chance to
50:20
weigh in. The meeting starts at five o'clock this afternoon and is scheduled to
50:25
go till around seven thirty or so, and that'll be at the main branch
50:29
of the Canawa County Public Library, one twenty three Capitol Street on the third
50:32
floor. Of this evening, but Dave Allen Show and five eighty LIVEE presented
50:36
by General Hardware of Windfield and Milton General number of Windfield for all projects,
50:38
big and small shop locally. This is General Hardware WV dot com tex says
50:45
Dave. The text critical of your guests concerning inflation. Please advise that the
50:49
rate of inflation is a year over year analysis, meaning twenty twenty three at
50:53
eight percent and year today twenty twenty four at three percent is an eleven percent
50:58
inflation increase, says a Texter. The Republican National Convention gets underway next week.
51:05
Brad mcwheney as the story post about on the website with quotes from Senator
51:09
Silly Moore Capito, who says she is excited about next week and was as
51:14
was mentioned on the show yesterday, it is being reported by some out that
51:16
it's a governor Justice is expected to speak in Milwaukee next week, Yes,
51:22
with baby dog. Former President Trump is expected to announce his running mate at
51:25
some point and some point either before the convention or sometime during the convention,
51:31
and most are saying the frontrunners to this point are author and Senator j D
51:36
Vance of Ohio, Marco Rubio of Florida, and Governor Doug Bergham of North
51:39
Dakota. And you know, politics are politics are one thing, and things
51:45
get said in campaigns that are quickly forgotten. Look at the gubernatorial nomination for
51:51
governor just a couple of months ago. But I care, for the life
51:53
of me, understand how Marco Rubio or Nikki Haley could even consider being a
51:58
vice president the former President Trump after the things he said about them. But
52:01
that's that's just me. So in the meantime, in the West Virginia Democratic
52:07
Party has issued a statement asking Justice and Morrissey to come out and denounce Project
52:14
twenty twenty five. And that's something we're going to get into a little bit
52:16
later on, maybe possibly next week, all right, gotta go. Thank
52:20
you to Steven Thomas for being here and also Chressen Gallagher, my producer was
