- Mid Thought Chris: is up everybody welcome to the myth of crisis. My name is Chris. That's Eric ⁓ in the middle or wherever he sits himself ⁓ You're on the left right now is chief will ⁓ One of our good friends cheers to you chief. How are you? ⁓ Mid Thought Eric: I'm Eric. Will: I'm on the left right now. Mid Thought Eric: Yeah Chief Will. Will: Cheers. I'm excellent. I really appreciate the invite to the show. I feel very honored to be a special invited guest. Yeah, I'm sure it was. That consisted of a text from Eric like, hey, we want you to be on the show. I'm like, okay, I'm happy to do it. Mid Thought Chris: It is, it is very selective. Mid Thought Eric: It was a very selective process. You're like, yes! I've been waiting my whole life for this! Mid Thought Chris: I'm happy to do it. We are thrilled to have you, buddy. It's been too long. How are you, chief? Will: I am excellent, how are you? Life in sunny Florida. Mid Thought Chris: doing great. Florida is it's pretty great. I don't have my watch on but it's probably like 80 degrees and I see you have a jacket on. Is it cold today? What do you got going? Will: It's surprisingly quite chilly up here today, even though the sun was shining and by all accounts it was a nice day. It was probably in the 50s and pretty windy. Mid Thought Chris: I mean, I'll take sun. Sun's good. Will: ⁓ yes, sunshine over doom and gloom all day every day for sure. Mid Thought Chris: Yeah, so our friend our friend chief will ⁓ as you might be able to tell by the name and his picture depending on what's coming up there ⁓ on the screen is a retired chief in the Navy CB is one of my favorite ⁓ one of my favorite rates in the Navy. These guys are awesome and chief will is no exception. ⁓ Eric on to you. How are you bud? Will: hahahaha Mid Thought Eric: But I'm good. I'm a little bit disappointed right now. ⁓ I was really looking forward to Will's fedora. And he switched things up on us. He is the Raymond Reddington fedora. Mid Thought Chris: ⁓ boy, why are you disappointed? ⁓ Dude, you are known for your fedora. ⁓ Will: ⁓ it's true. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Yes. Yes, I have lately. It's- the fedora started to make its appearance back because I feel like it's not appropriate to wear in the wintertime since I have a tan straw fedora. And it just doesn't work when it's doomy and gloomy. But- Mid Thought Eric: Ooh, tan straw. Mid Thought Chris: No. Will: But now that it's springtime, it has been making a comeback and so the Cotopaxi hat will start to go away and the fedora will be more prominent in the wardrobe selection. Mid Thought Chris: Okay. Mid Thought Eric: Good. That's good. Mid Thought Chris: rewatt say that word one more co what what did you say Will: Kodopaxi is the brand name of the hat up here. Mid Thought Chris: That one. ⁓ tell me more about that. I need to hear more about that Mid Thought Eric: ⁓ I thought it said I thought it said Columbia. Will: No, Cotopaxi. So it's a South American brand and it's like a, I don't know, probably on par equivalent to like Patagonia, just with their mission to ⁓ get outdoors and kind of reuse, recycle, ⁓ not waste, environment friendly, stuff like that. Not that I'm all into that, but I do appreciate a good clothing brand. Yeah, yes. Go Ross Perot. Mid Thought Chris: Hmm. Okay, all right. Mid Thought Eric: Mmm. So Will is a tree hugger. Mid Thought Chris: Hey, we are all about that. ⁓ Got it! That section of the Navy. Got it! Mid Thought Eric: you Will: Indeed. Mid Thought Chris: Indeed. Awesome, man. ⁓ Mid Thought Eric: Yeah, so mid.chris, ⁓ Will and I have been spending a lot of time together this few days. Will: That's right, we just had a stage performance on Friday night and it was quite fun. Mid Thought Eric: We did. Yes, he. Mid Thought Chris: I'm jealous all around it. have all... Wait a minute. Time out. Time out. If you were to take that statement alone, just... Producer Mike, put a pin in this. Yes, that's it. Right there. Stage performance. Full stop. Mid Thought Eric: I was I was trying to get him That's all we need make us short Will: ⁓ Stage performance Full stop not the full Monty full stop. Yes. He did try and get me to do Yeah, fat guy little coat There may or may not been a bow tie and some suspenders Mid Thought Eric: We had a stage performance together. and I was trying to get him to do his interpretive dancing. Mid Thought Chris: Chippendales, got it, got it. ⁓ Mid Thought Eric: Yeah. Mid Thought Chris: And that's it. Mid Thought Eric: Yeah. Will: Yeah, that's it, obviously. Mid Thought Eric: Yes. Mid Thought Chris: ⁓ Tell me more about this stage performance at the risk at the risk Will: Go for it, Eric. It well, it was Eric's- it was Eric's idea to bring me into the fold and then was- it- and it was a good one. Mid Thought Eric: Yeah. It was. at the church that we all frequented here, ⁓ I have somehow become the default of hosting all of the ⁓ egg hunts and also the trucker treats in October. And ⁓ this year, for whatever reason, ⁓ there was nobody to accompany me on stage. And I always need a partner on stage. I do. ⁓ Mid Thought Chris: Mmm, mmm, all frequented. Okay. You need a you need a plus one. Yeah Mid Thought Eric: So the leader asked and my first thought and my only thought was, did you check with Will yet? And she said, no, but that's brilliant. And not too long after the match was made, the two had become one on stage. Mid Thought Chris: Mm-hmm. ⁓ That's brilliant. Will: Match made in heaven. We were symbiotic on stage. Mid Thought Chris: Match made in heaven. On a scale of one to fuming, how jealous should I be right now? Beyond fuming, ⁓ I rate. Steaming angry. It's my co-host. Will: Beyond fuming. I rate. I rate. Mid Thought Eric: Yes. Steaming. Steaming. I will say that the feedback was good. I think it was a hit, ⁓ I got such feedback as you two are two beans in a pod. ⁓ That you two peas in a pod or beans. They're bean pods too. No beans, not beads. Will: You Mid Thought Chris: Beans in a pod or peas in a pod? Okay, okay. Do beans come in a pod? Will: Beans? More beans. Yeah. Beans. Magical Mexican jumping beans. Mid Thought Chris: Do beans... Come... Beans coming to pot! There we go! Will: Wait, there's no fact you never told me there'd be fact-checking on this Mid Thought Eric: They can. Continuous. It's all... Yep, that's what I said. Will: Okay. Mid Thought Eric: Yep. So no, no, was a hit. And you know, it made me think of and for some reason our conversations on this show always go back to Forrest Gump sometimes. But do you remember In Forrest Gump when he was really good at ping pong and he said, it made me look like a duck in water, whatever that means. Remember that? Will remembers. Yes, it's a it's a hit. Forrest Gump is in. Mid Thought Chris: It sticks. Alright, continue. Mmm. I don't remember that, no. I don't think we've ever talked about Forrest Gump on this show. I think we have not talked about Forrest Gump once. Chief Will, I know you've listened to every single episode. Have you ever heard us talk about Forrest Gump? Okay, let's... Will: Yes. Mid Thought Eric: They are a non-sponsoring movie. Will: A non-sponsoring movie. Mid Thought Eric: Yeah. Maybe once. Maybe once. Maybe once. Will: Yes. I can neither confirm nor deny. But I was gonna ask if this is like Seinfeld where every episode has a secret subliminal Superman reference ⁓ tied into it. So maybe Forrest Ferris Gump is your subliminal tie-in every episode. Mid Thought Chris: ⁓ Mid Thought Eric: No but we're Yeah, we're pretty heavy on gladiator, too. Mid Thought Chris: I- we have a- Will: ⁓ okay. Mid Thought Chris: Pretty heavy on gladiator. ⁓ Mid Thought Eric: Yeah. Shadows of dust, Maximus. Mid Thought Chris: Pretty heavy on Tropic Thunder. That's a pretty reoccurring. Yeah, that's a pretty... I have too. I've seen a solid 10 minutes of it. Will: Hahaha! Mid Thought Eric: The one that got away. Chris still hasn't even seen it, loser. Loser! That's mandatory viewing. Will: ⁓ okay. Mid Thought Chris: Manager. Mid Thought Eric: Will, what do you think of Tropic Thunder? Will: I think it's hysterical. little bit on the... I can get a little bit dark, but I mean that's to be expected in a movie like that. Mid Thought Eric: Thank you. Mid Thought Chris: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. to be expected. Mid Thought Eric: Yes, it hits the mark for what it's aiming for. Will: Yeah, I mean we're not dealing with like apoca-apocalypse now like level type stuff, but yeah Yeah, yeah Yeah Mid Thought Chris: Oof. Oof. That's a classic. Rest in peace. To... Yeah. Chief Will, top five movies, go. Off the gate! Mid Thought Eric: No. It's a comedy, yeah. Yeah. ⁓ Put him on the spot! Will: ⁓ okay. ⁓ the rock was Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage. Mid Thought Eric: Okay. Mid Thought Chris: I don't know if I would expected that, but I mean... Mid Thought Eric: So is this in order or just any top five? Will: No, you're hitting me, so I'm trying to think what comes first. ⁓ Mid Thought Eric: Okay. Mid Thought Chris: I mean that was the first, that was the first get. Mid Thought Eric: It's okay if you just want to do no particular order to take the stress off. All right. Yeah. Yeah, we don't want to stress you out. Yes, syndicated. Will: Yeah, definitely no particular order, so... ⁓ so... ⁓ yes, syndic-y. Hundreds. Tens of dozens of people, wow. ⁓ This is good, this is giving me more time to think. ⁓ s- Yes. Mid Thought Chris: No genre, no pressure here, Will. I mean, you're on a syndicated podcast in front of millions, thousands, hundreds, tens of dozens of people. Mid Thought Eric: Tens of dozens. Two billion three hundred twenty million thousand. Come on. Mid Thought Chris: Yes, that was my goal. Mid Thought Eric: We tend to go off in directions before we finish the first one. How long did it take me? How long did take? ⁓ Goonies. Hey you guys! Will: That's fine. So the Rock, ⁓ the Goonies, the Goonies is another good one. Hey you guys, the Truffle Shuffle. ⁓ The Indiana Jones series, the original three. Temple of Doom, Raiders of the Lost Ark, ⁓ Last Crusade. ⁓ Let's see, that's three, Raiders of the Lost Ark. ⁓ Any of the classic James Bond series, grew up watching those. ⁓ Mid Thought Chris: Yes, no train of thought. Okay, okay, classic, classic. Mid Thought Eric: Okay. Mid Thought Chris: ⁓ alright, yeah, yeah. Know what you're saying. Mid Thought Eric: Sean Connery? Will: Sean Conrad, Roger Moore, ⁓ Pierce, well even into Pierce Brosnan days you had ⁓ Mid Thought Chris: How do you feel? Mid Thought Eric: ⁓ Mid Thought Chris: How do you feel about Daniel Craig? Will: It was an acquired taste, but I'm on board. Yeah, like it was a very stark transition going from a pierced rosin into a classically dark haired bond into the transition into a blonde haired bond. That was a lot to take in. It did. It really did. It's true. Have you seen him get out of the water in his bathing suit? Come on. Mid Thought Eric: ⁓ okay. All right. Mid Thought Chris: I like Daniel Craig, I thought he was a good bond. Yes. Yes. Yeah, the blonde hair, the blonde hair gotcha. Daniel Craig is a lot to take in. I mean that is quite the man. Mid Thought Eric: Yes, he transitioned. Mid Thought Chris: Good lord, that's those short shorts that I like to speak. This is a very Navy-centered show, isn't it? You're outnumbered. No, you've got... You've got Producer Mike with you, so he's just off there in the ether. Mid Thought Eric: Wait, he had a bathing suit on? I'm outnumbered. The army soldier is in the middle. Will: On both sides. ⁓ okay. Mid Thought Eric: ⁓ true. Two to two. Toot-a-loo. Will: And then I'll close it out with Science Mystery Theater 3000. Yeah, Mystery Science Theater 3000. Mid Thought Chris: Brutaloo! Mystery Science Theater 3000 That's a great show Eric have you never seen that show? ⁓ I mean, that's the inspiration I I Think there it was a pioneer show like that was an incredible show ⁓ like so there would know ⁓ Not your classic TV show so Mid Thought Eric: What in the heck Never even heard of it. Will: Okay. Mid Thought Eric: What? It was an actual like TV show? Will: Yeah. There it is. Mid Thought Eric: We're talking top five movies, movies. Will: It wasn't movie. Mid Thought Chris: Did they make a movie out of it? I believe you Eric you've never seen mystery science 3. Oh my gosh. It is so you have like Well played producer Mike Mystery science theater 3000 is it you have like Mid Thought Eric: Hmm. So was South Park. South Park was a movie. I've never heard of it. Tell me more. Will: I... yeah... ⁓ Mid Thought Eric: ⁓ well don't come on our show and do that Go to the bathroom before the podcast wait power man 5000 Will: Power Man 5000 Mid Thought Chris: No, not Power Man 5000. There was a picture. Look, there's there is these classic movies that would be shown and you'd have these three figures on the bottom right hand side of the of the movie. And these dudes would just commentate for the entire movie. Like it was like. Mid Thought Eric: Look! There's this picture! Will: Have you ever seen a pirated ⁓ movie where somebody's filming in the back and you see all the heads sticking up in the front of you as it's filming the screen? That's the premise of Science Mystery Theater 3000, is you see the three shadows of the people in the theater as they're watching whatever classic movie's playing on the screen. Mid Thought Eric: ⁓ yeah. Yes. so was Mid Thought Chris: just running commentary on like old, old like 1940s movies. It is incredible humor. 100%. And they're just making fun of this movie like I can't even do it justice. Like you need to go find them and watch them. They're incredible. Mid Thought Eric: Okay. Will: Yeah. Yeah. Mid Thought Eric: So was the whole premise supposed to be satire? Will: Yep. Mid Thought Eric: Okay, awesome. Alright. Like what year, circa what year was this? Will: ⁓ nine nineties nineties Mid Thought Chris: Producer Mike, you got that for us? we're, ⁓ I think it was in 90s. Yeah. And I think, did they do a reboot maybe? ⁓ I don't recall. Will: I'm not sure, maybe. Mid Thought Eric: because I didn't I didn't watch anything out of like four TV shows until like 2000. Mid Thought Chris: Huh. Wait, say that one more time? Mid Thought Eric: I didn't watch anything outside of about four TV shows until 2000. Mid Thought Chris: Huh, interesting. Tell me more about those four TV shows and the dates are 1988 to 1999. Mid Thought Eric: ⁓ we've- Will: Okay, yeah classic classic Mid Thought Chris: Incredible show I Will look past the TV show Versus movie for mystery science theater 3000. I will look past that all day long Despite what mid thought Eric might say Mid Thought Eric: Alright. Okay. Alright, I'll have check it out. Will: okay. Thank you. Thank you. Mid Thought Eric: Look past it. We will forgive you. Will: Hahaha! Mid Thought Chris: Eric what were you gonna say you watched like two shows for the entirety of your high school career. Is that what you said? Mid Thought Eric: No, before high school. Not, not, not, not high school. Will: Four shows, four shows. Mid Thought Chris: Okay. For when did you watch four shows? Mid Thought Eric: ⁓ no, I think we've gone over this before on the show, but for the listeners who haven't caught up to the earlier episodes, ⁓ growing up, I, ⁓ I never had cable. ⁓ I was, I was oppressed. Mid Thought Chris: all the listeners. Same. Chief Will, did you have cable? He had cable. Will: Yeah. I did have cable. However, I did grow up with the TV where you had the dial knob. So you had to we didn't have a remote. So in order to change the channel, you had to get up, walk up to the TV and then turn the knob. Mid Thought Eric: He was fancy. Mid Thought Chris: Yeah! Mid Thought Eric: That's tough. Yeah, that's that's Mid Thought Chris: Pops would be like, hey, Chief Will, go grab that knob. Mid Thought Eric: That's a press of cable. Mid Thought Chris: TV now. Mid Thought Eric: Now we only got NBC with our rabbit ears. got NBC for whatever reason. It was perfect. then, yeah. So, ⁓ family matters all day, every day. ⁓ and then, ⁓ full house. And then we got for a real treat on, I think Thursday nights, we got ER, we got ER. yeah. And then every now and then, ⁓ was it tool time, Tim? What was that one? Yes. Will: Okay. Mid Thought Chris: Mm-hmm you get the foil on top of it. Do you the foil? Will: ⁓ that's a classic, yes. Full house? Okay. Mid Thought Chris: Mmm, classic. course. Will: A real treat. ⁓ wow, that's intense. Mid Thought Chris: Now, trash. Will: ⁓ yeah, home improvement. Mid Thought Eric: Yep, that was my four. Mid Thought Chris: Thank you, Will. I'm embarrassed at Eric's... Dual time, Tim. There it is. Thank you. Again, very classic. Very classic. Will, are Chief Will, what do you got there? What are you drinking? Will: Yeah, home improvement. Mid Thought Eric: Well, it was. Yeah. Will: Tim the tool man Taylor yes yes And- and- before I say that, ⁓ Richard Karn, who was Al Borland on the show in real life, was actually a CB before he got into television. Yes, that is a true statement. Mid Thought Eric: Ooh. Look at that! Mid Thought Chris: I think I heard that. Mid Thought Eric: So Will is a guest who is also a host of knowledge, a source of knowledge. That's all we do on this show, so what's it matter? Will: ⁓ Useless- useless knowledge, mostly. Actually, exclusively useless. But to answer your question, I'm drinking Glen Mirange 18, extremely rare. I love scotch, scotch, scotch. Scotch, scotch, scotch, scotch, scotch. That's what it says on the bottle, I'm not just making that up. Mid Thought Chris: A source of knowledge. Useless. You fit right in there, bud. Ooh, extremely rare. ⁓ Mid Thought Eric: I love scotch. Scotch, scotch, scotch. Scotch, scotch. Mid Thought Chris: ⁓ I believe you. Is that one of the things, I think, is that one of the ones that you poured for us when we came over that one day? Quite possibly. Nice. Mid Thought Eric: It's extremely rare. Will: Quite possibly. I do have some of the other good stuff that's still up in the cupboard from from retirement Mid Thought Eric: The good stuff. So a little little factoid here. ⁓ I'm not I'm not a huge scotch guy Mid Thought Chris: Awesome. Will: But you do like your bourbon. You do like your bourbon. Mid Thought Chris: Factoid. A factoid. Mid Thought Eric: I love bourbon. Yes. What about you, Chris? Mid-Thought Chris? Are you a Scotch guy? Mid Thought Chris: I I if chief will poured me a scotch right now. I don't think I'd throw it out I think I would drink it and enjoy it I Wouldn't kick it up no Mid Thought Eric: Well, no, I mean, I'm not saying that. Will: I should hope not. That's alcohol abuse. Mid Thought Eric: I would... I would throw anything out. Will: You ⁓ Mid Thought Eric: ⁓ no, I mean, that's just a different, I mean, it's different. Mid Thought Chris: It's it, yeah, but I- Will: It is, it's very different from your ⁓ typical bourbon or even like an Irish whiskey. Mid Thought Eric: Mm-hmm. Mid Thought Chris: I don't mind it. It's not a go-to, but I think I'm not opposed to shaking things up a little bit. Will: I can't do the stuff that's incredibly peaty and smoky flavor profile. That's not for me. But anything from ⁓ peaty. Mid Thought Eric: I know what you're saying. Mid Thought Chris: Hmm. Mid Thought Eric: What was the first thing you said? Petey? What is that? Mid Thought Chris: I think Eric needs a translation. Mid Thought Eric: To the common folk. ⁓ Mid Thought Chris: Hmm. Mid Thought Eric: Mm-hmm. Mid Thought Chris: Hmm. Mid Thought Eric: I see. Mid Thought Chris: No, that's his name. That's his name. Mid Thought Eric: Heh. Heh heh. Will: I forget his name in real life, but he's a spokesman for Lavalulin, which is ⁓ from the Isle of ⁓ Islay, which is known, its only flavor profile is very smoky and peaty. It's very much an acquired taste, that's scotch from that region. Mid Thought Eric: That's just, he will always be Ryan Swanson. Mid Thought Chris: Huh. Huh, interesting. Mid Thought Eric: well. I don't think it will ever require that taste. Interesting. Mid Thought Chris: So that's not you, is that what you're saying Will? Okay. Knowing is half the battle. Awesome, awesome. So Chief Will, how's retirement going? how long ago did you retire again? Will: That's not me, I can't do that. I'm not that much of a man. Mid Thought Eric: No. We all have our weaknesses. That's good. Yeah. Will: Yes. ⁓ so I retired in, May of 24. So coming up on two full years retired. ⁓ Mid Thought Chris: May of 24. Yeah. And you... Mid Thought Eric: certain select people got to see that retirement. Will: ⁓ sure it was there at the retirement ceremony Mid Thought Chris: I was super upset. Do a little bit jealous, a little bit jealous. No, that's awesome. And you did, you did, that was after 20, how many years did you? Mid Thought Eric: jealous I think the word you mean is jealous no that was cool man that was cool Will: 20 years in one month exactly. Yes. Mid Thought Chris: 20 years in one month, that is awesome. Refresh my memory, did you go right into the CVs or did you jump into a different rate to start off with or how'd that work? Will: ⁓ no. Had I done anything else other than the CBs when I enlisted, I would have not have joined the Navy. So, my dad was actually in the CBs a long, time ago, and so... Not necessarily growing up, I was very familiar with what it was, ⁓ and so when the decision was made, it'd be like, well, I'm clearly not doing anything good with my life at college by skipping class and skiing. Maybe I should do something ⁓ worthwhile. ⁓ Mid Thought Chris: Okay, I got you. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Mid Thought Eric: Heh Mid Thought Chris: Hehehehehe Will: So the writing was a little bit on the wall, so I'm like, well, if I'm going to join any branch, I thought about joining the Marine Corps. ⁓ Didn't give any consideration whatsoever to the Army, no offense, ⁓ Eric and the Department of the Army Civilian. ⁓ Mid Thought Chris: Yeah. Yep. Mid Thought Eric: Mid-thought. Yeah. Way to go, Producer Mike. Mid Thought Chris: I'm surprised there's no farting noise after that one, but I was actually like pausing and waiting for it. He's not even there. He dropped off. There it is! ⁓ crap! Mid Thought Eric: He fell asleep. Will: Okay. ⁓ There it is. There it is. ⁓ So joining the Navy with the contingent of joining one of the seven ⁓ ratings or job within the Navy that make up what is the CBs, which is a smaller community or subset of the Navy, ⁓ was ⁓ what I looked to do and ended up ⁓ joining to do. Mid Thought Chris: Mm. That's awesome. That is awesome. ⁓ you're good. Mid Thought Eric: Yeah, CBs are great. When I first got my job as a civilian, I worked at the Navy Yard in DC. And the building that I was in, the two floors that I worked on were CB floors. And now my supervisor for my current job was in the CBs. But he's like 65, so it's a little bit different. yeah, lots of CBs. You guys rock. Will: Sorry. Mm-hmm. Okay. Yeah, it was a different time back then for sure. Mid Thought Chris: Hmm guys is one of my favorite ratings my my RDCs at ⁓ bootcamp or CBs like there's There's you're just great people ⁓ You're the type of folks that I mean, what's your what's your banner say? What's that phrase underneath the CBs? It says Yeah, exactly ⁓ Just just some touch top-notch folks that you folks that you can drop into the middle of nowhere and you're just gonna Will: Can do. Mid Thought Chris: you know, figure out how to get things done. Y'all are awesome. Make it happen. Mid Thought Eric: They'll make it happen. Will: Yes, our official model is we build, we fight. The impossible, we do it once. Excuse me, the difficult, we do it once. The impossible takes a little bit longer. Mid Thought Chris: Love it, love it. That's awesome. And how's retirement treating you? You loving it? Mid Thought Eric: That's a long motto. Will: It is. Retirement is fantastic. ⁓ I was very fortunate to be able to retire and then step into the same role post-retirement ⁓ as a civilian. So I'm still very much ⁓ into the fray of everything and ⁓ get to have some cool experiences and do some cool stuff. So grateful for the opportunity. Mid Thought Chris: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Love it. That's man. That's awesome. Killer. That is awesome. Sweet. Eric. ⁓ Mid Thought Eric: So weak. Will: Yes. Mid Thought Eric: Tell me a little bit more ⁓ Will about your ⁓ skipping college courses for skiing. Where did this happen? Where was the skiing? Will: ⁓ yes. So, I blame my... I blame my older sister for this. ⁓ So, growing up going to school living in upstate New York, ⁓ skiing is just kind of a part of life. So my dad introduced me to skiing when I was just a wee lad and fell in love with it. he would... Yeah. Mid Thought Chris: Eric you do have that together, yeah Mid Thought Eric: I love skiing. Mid Thought Chris: Mmm. Mid Thought Eric: We lad. When I was a young warthog! Mid Thought Chris: Baby Chief. Hahaha! Will: So my dad would take me skiing and then in high school one of the things where we're from is you had ski club. So after school on Fridays you would sign up you just hop on the big yellow bus and head to the local ski resort and go skiing for the for the evening. So I. OK did you. So OK nice. So yeah Greek Peak was the name of the ski resort where it was closest to us and it's probably about an hour drive from where school was. ⁓ Mid Thought Chris: Mm-hmm. Mid Thought Eric: Yes. We had that here in Waynesboro. Yep, for Ski Liberty. Mid Thought Chris: Huh, interesting. Mid Thought Eric: Is that one still there? Did Vale resorts buy it out? Will: That's a good question, I don't know. I believe it still is there, like what ownership it's under. It very well could be Vale, because I know that they're one of the big ones that kind of swooped in and picked up all the little guys. But graduating high school, going into college, my sister got me a season pass. And so I had a Pontiac, 1992 Pontiac Grand Dam. And any... Mid Thought Eric: Mm-hmm. ⁓ grand damn. Not to Grand Prix. Mid Thought Chris: Classic. ⁓ my gosh. I love those things. Will: With a, Yes. It was a ton of fun. The hood was completely faded on the paint. The clear coat was gone, but the rest of the paint was on point. A red one. A maroon Pontiac Grand Am. Mid Thought Eric: Hey, producer Mike, go ahead. Let's get a 92 Grand Am up here. Let's see it. Yeah. And then we're going to attach Will's head onto it. Mid Thought Chris: That's a requirement. That's a requirement. Will: Ha ha ha! Mid Thought Chris: I used to, was that the 3800 engine? What was that? Will: So 3800 3600 maybe I'm not sure So it would snow overnight they would cancel class or they wouldn't cancel class I didn't care because I had a season pass and I would get on interstate 81 and it would be me and the tractor trailers driving in fresh powder on the interstate so I could get to this in my Pontiac completely not safe Mid Thought Chris: Mmm. Mid Thought Eric: Yes. In your Pontiac. Mid Thought Chris: Mmm. You and the tractor trailers. Probably rear wheel drive. Will: It may or may not have been it might have been front-wheel drive that might have been my only saving grace to why I'm not dead in a ditch and and I sit on this show right now, so Yeah ⁓ Mid Thought Chris: You know what would have saved him, Eric, is the Cessnas that were warning him that there was snow up. Mid Thought Eric: Decomposed! Yes. Yes. And like when he went into the ditch, the guy with the wine, he just need a lot of wine to stay alive. So that's two what to show references. Thank you. Mid Thought Chris: Yes! Will: That's right. Okay. ⁓ Mid Thought Chris: And Eric, our chief, well, I know you know exactly what we're talking about, so we'll just keep moving right along. Mid Thought Eric: Yes. But well, well, let's just let's just do a quick detour here. ⁓ If you're on the highway. Right. And there's like a 50 car pile up up ahead, but you don't know because you're going to know when you get there and you have to you have to slam on your brakes and you're going to crash into them and it's going to be a 51 car pile up at that point. Don't you think it would have been helpful for you for preventive action? Will: Absolutely, yeah clearly, I'm fully up to speed. Yes, yes, I'm good for a detour. Mid Thought Chris: ⁓ boy. It's one of my favorites. Will: Okay. Mid Thought Chris: You're like a mile behind. Will: Got it. Okay. Mid Thought Eric: to see a Cessna flying over, warning you, hey, slow down now. There's an accident up ahead. Wouldn't that have been great? Mid Thought Chris: You Will: I would argue that the Cessna can't fly in those types of conditions, even IFR. Let's just say, okay, hypothetically speaking, of course. Yeah, then, then yes. Yes, then absolutely I would have needed a Cessna to warn me. You're welcome. Mid Thought Eric: Well, let's just say if they could, yes, it would be a great idea. Mid Thought Chris: And you can see it and you can see it through the massive amounts of snow that's coming down at the same time Mid Thought Eric: That's what you would have needed. Thank you. It just needed a little bit of stretch of the imagination, but otherwise we're good. Thank you. Please proceed. Will: Yes. Alright, we can connect the dots there, yes. ⁓ So yes, more times than not, it was a choice of waking up in the morning after fresh snow and do I do the responsible thing and go to English class or do I go skiing on fresh powder and I think we all know the obvious choice. Yeah, 100%. Mid Thought Chris: Little stretch. Mid Thought Eric: Hmm, no. Yes. One is responsible and that's definitely fresh powder. Mid Thought Chris: Mmm. Mmm. Mmm. Will: ⁓ So it was just as well that I was essentially just killing time waiting for my ship date to go to boot camp and then to tech school. So I just did mediocre in the year of college that my parents paid for before I joined the Navy. So. Mid Thought Chris: Mm-hmm. Oof. That's a hit. And were you, ⁓ Mid Thought Eric: So how many times approximately like in a winter season or whatever, how many times would you get a fresh powder snow? Because right now it seems like maybe three times in Waynesboro. Will: ⁓ goodness. Back then, probably I feel like it snowed at least once a week. And I was skiing probably like, yeah, no, I wouldn't even do Pennsylvania versus upstate New York. I'd do early 2000s versus 2026. It's just totally different. Like weather, climate issues, all sorts of things. ⁓ no, definitely. Yeah. All the, it's all the cow farts. Mid Thought Eric: Goodness. Okay. Mid Thought Chris: Pennsylvania versus upstate New York though. you That's fair. Yeah. Mid Thought Eric: the global warming. It's all the carbon, carbon emissions. Yes. Yeah. No, it's same. I remember like back in that, just like that. Back in 2000, yeah, I mean, it seemed to snow, I mean, even down here. Yeah, we'd get a good snow at least every two weeks. Mid Thought Chris: It's all the cow farts. That is precisely it. a lot. Will: Okay, yeah. Mid Thought Eric: from Christmas to President's Day, at least. So anyways. Mid Thought Chris: So you were in ⁓ upstate New York. We're in upstate New York. Where are you again? Will: I grew up in a town called Sydney, but where I went to college for the one year and lived in apartment with my buddies was in Binghamton, New York, which is just straight up 81 from where we're at here in Pennsylvania. Mid Thought Chris: Binghamton, gotcha. Yeah, gotcha. Mid Thought Eric: How close is that to like Syracuse or something? Will: ⁓ two and a half hours. Mid Thought Eric: All right. Will: So, yep. Mid Thought Chris: Good stuff. Then you go away to boot camp and you went to Chicago, I'm guessing, right? Will: I did. Yep, Chicago at that time is the, and to this day is the only Navy boot camp location. Back in the day, it used to be Orlando, Florida and San Diego, California in addition to, but now it's just Chicago. Mid Thought Chris: Mm-hmm. Yep. Yep. Yep. And then... Mid Thought Eric: Did you have any friends write you letters with a typewriter? Will: Uh, no, I was not in the typewriter phase. We were past that. So that was 2003 that I joined and 2004 that I shipped off. we were a little, uh, typewriters were a little bit antiquated even at that juncture. Mid Thought Chris: Hmm. Mid Thought Eric: I don't know, Chris, when was your typewriter experience? Mid Thought Chris: Hmm. That would have been, what was that, 2020? Mid Thought Eric: ⁓ so there you go, Will. Will: Wow, had type you had time as I was Chris had a typewriter typewriter letters to him Mid Thought Eric: you Mid Thought Chris: I did. Mid Thought Eric: From Jenny Will: Jen. I did get letters from my Jenny when I was in boot camp. Mid Thought Chris: Mine were from a dude named Eric. How sweet. Mid Thought Eric: Yes, there you go. Mmm. Will: how sweet. I'm sure the RDC's had a blast when they were handing out mail call and they said, ⁓ Stevenson, come get your letter from Eric. Mid Thought Chris: You Mid Thought Eric: You're pumpkin Eric. Mid Thought Chris: I there was anything too weird on it or anything like that. It was just typewritten and so it was kind of... I know, right? Mid Thought Eric: Nah, I was very professional. It took a lot. It took a lot, but I was professional. Yes. Yes. Will: That's unfortunate. That's just show a lot of restraint for you, Eric. Mid Thought Chris: It did. Like he could have put like any number of things on there, but he chose to keep it professional. Mid Thought Eric: ⁓ Do you want to tell Will what I did to your car? Will: Hahaha ⁓ I don't think I know this. Mid Thought Chris: Uh, uh, I might put that in the chat, uh, but there was a certain, uh, he put a magnet on the, it was at the side of the back. I can't remember where you put it. Mid Thought Eric: I was trying to find the location where you would notice it the least. So I think it was like the back, the back rear side. Mid Thought Chris: Yep. ⁓ Not on the gas tank side obviously. ⁓ Mid Thought Eric: But, which for the Navy, mean that's not the least. ⁓ But no, didn't you say your co-workers found it at lunchtime or something? It didn't even make the whole day. Will: well played, Producer Mike, well played. Mid Thought Chris: Maybe, I don't recall. It didn't even... Nope, it said this. Will: ⁓ was it a phallic shape? Okay. I got a public chat. I'm okay. Got it. Got it. So speaking of car magnets, ⁓ in my hooligan days, ⁓ hooligan days. ⁓ okay. Fair enough. But it. Yeah. Back in my original hooligan days, this led to me getting banned from the local Wendy's. ⁓ Yes. Yeah. Yes. Yes. Yes. Mid Thought Eric: This is premium content. They have to pay for this. Mid Thought Chris: That's what it said on it. Mid Thought Eric: ⁓ Now you're still in your hooligan days. It's just more restrained. Mid Thought Chris: Hooligan days. You're back into your hooligan days. Mmm. Mid Thought Eric: You got banned from Wendy's? Lean into this. Don't miss it. Mid Thought Chris: I need to hear more about that. I'm leaning in on this one. Will: So this is a like, this is a, this is a two part, a two part story. So the precipitous to getting banned to the local Wendy's was, me and my buddies, Genesis, excuse me, Genesis. I think precipitous would work, but we'll go with Genesis. This is your show after all, and I'm the guest. Mid Thought Eric: No, it's Genesis! Yes. Mid Thought Chris: Precipitous? Golly. I'm not using that one. Mid Thought Eric: There you go Chris, there's an alternate for you. Will: ⁓ So we would get in like we would get in my buddy's car and we would drive around the the local mall and ⁓ We had this Mission to steal the mall security Magnet placard on the on the car as it would drive around and The mall security guy was very very good Mid Thought Chris: They're gonna see right through me. Mid Thought Eric: Yeah. Mid Thought Chris: Mmm. ⁓ my gosh. ⁓ Mid Thought Eric: Heh. Will: at any time that he would park the car about taking it off when he would go inside. So there was very few opportunities that presented themselves to be able to take said magnet. ⁓ kind of, yes. This took his job way too seriously for what it was. Mid Thought Chris: Hmm. Mid Thought Eric: Was it like Paul Bart, mall cop? Yes. Yes. Mid Thought Chris: They have magnets on their car. What did it have on it? What did it say? Aha! Will: They did back then ⁓ It just said like mall security So one night we're at the mall driving around in the parking lot I think it had just snowed and so we were taking shopping carts one of them would lean out the window and then drive and then slam the shopping cart into the snowbank ⁓ of course, but then we followed the mall security car around to the back and This was it dude. This was this was our chance Mid Thought Chris: Of course. Mid Thought Eric: Sounds fun. Will: He went inside, forgot to take the mall security sticker off off of the car. Prime opportunity. So I won't say who to prevent any incrimination or prosecution. But somebody got out of the vehicle. Snatch snatched snatched the magnet off. And then we proceeded to drive around the town proudly displaying our mall security that we had a sign that we had lifted. Mid Thought Chris: He didn't. Mid Thought Eric: prime opportunity. Mid Thought Chris: That's great. I appreciate that. Somebody. Mid Thought Eric: haha Whoa. Will: So we decided it would be a good idea to go to the local Wendy's and go through the drive-thru. And I don't know what prompted my ⁓ one buddy who tended to be like the most vocal out of the group of us. ⁓ But he decided that he was going to give the poor lady ⁓ entirely too much grief ⁓ through the intercom at the drive-thru of Wendy's. And then when we pulled up, I know, but then when we pulled up to add insult to injury, Mid Thought Eric: Hmm. Mid Thought Chris: course. Hmm. Cheers. Mid Thought Eric: You can't do that. Will: He ended up calling this lady the B-word. Well, yes, she did not take that kindly. We did not think that we would be so on display and that you could actually call in somebody's license plate. But as we're driving home, we get a phone call saying that they had called the state police. Mid Thought Chris: No! No! Mid Thought Eric: Gotcha! Mid Thought Chris: ⁓ jeez. Will: And the state police wanted us to all show up on like Monday morning. This is like Friday, mind you, like Friday evening show up Monday morning. So I'm like, guys, there's no way as we're driving home, like freaking out now. I'm like, there's. I don't even remember. ⁓ I don't know how we got notified, but we got notified, I think, by one of our parents, one of the cooler parents, who wasn't going to flip out and tell the rest of our parents what had just happened. ⁓ Mid Thought Chris: Golly! Mid Thought Eric: Who was the phone call from? Mid Thought Chris: Hmm. Will: So like you guys need to go to the state police barracks and have a discussion and like guys, let's just go there now tonight and get this done with. So we show up there. The police have no idea what we're talking about. So we kind of like self incriminate and tell them everything that we just did. Yeah. So we tell them the story and they take us in one by one. Mid Thought Chris: Mm. Mid Thought Eric: You Mid Thought Chris: Right. Outed yourself. Hey, we called this lady. Mid Thought Eric: We got this magnet at Wendy's. We harassed them. Will: Both of my buddies squealed like you wouldn't believe said everything ⁓ I Stuck to my guns. I would not say anything There the state police did not like that at all so they started like yelling and screaming at me ⁓ There was nothing that they could really do so at the end of the day They said you know what you guys are banned from that Wendy's if I find out that you ever going back there I'm going to arrest you guys or do whatever Mid Thought Eric: traders. well. Mid Thought Chris: Mm. Will: So that was like the running joke to this day that we're still banned from the the local Wendy's back home Mid Thought Eric: You're always welcome at the one in Waynesboro. Mid Thought Chris: So have you tried to go back since? How funny would it be if you went back and this dude comes out of retirement like, ugh! Will: Yeah, thank you. ⁓ Well, Wendy's... Mid Thought Eric: I said you couldn't come here! Stay away! Will: Not that Wendy's can't be a career for somebody. I don't think they have a particularly high attrition rate. So... Alright, yeah, yeah. I think I'd be s- Yeah, a high retention rate, thank you. ⁓ I'm pretty sure that the people that were invol- Yeah. The people that were involved in said incident are no longer there, and so yeah, I think it's safe to go back. Mid Thought Chris: Hmm. Mid Thought Eric: Now they do have a high attrition rate. Mid Thought Chris: So what you're saying is you think you'd be safe. Mid Thought Eric: They don't have a high retention rate. Words matter, You should try it. Mid Thought Chris: Hmm and then take a picture We're back Will: I should. Mid Thought Eric: Be like, hey, what are you guys going to do? Will: Well, what I need to do is I need to go back there and send a picture to my buddies who were with me at the time, because I'm still friends with two out of the three of us that were in the car at the time. Yeah. Mid Thought Eric: Mm-hmm. Mid Thought Chris: Exactly. Mid Thought Eric: Exactly. Why are you not friends with the third one? Will: I just kind of felt it just kind of fell out of touch No, he was one of the ones that sang like a canary but Mid Thought Chris: was just gonna... That crazy ginger! He might be doing everything! Mid Thought Eric: Cause it squirreled on you? It was the redhead! Will: Yeah. Yeah Yeah Mid Thought Eric: Wow, that's quite a traumatizing story. I've never had interrogation from the police. Mid Thought Chris: That is I have one question following that. Did you have to disclose that information at MEPs, like before you enlisted? Of course not. Hey, producer Mike, can you edit that out? Are you banned from any Wendy's? Shoot, they got me. That's true. Will: ⁓ no, absolutely not. Mid Thought Eric: Wendy's is not a question. you banned from any local establishment? Will: Hahaha Yeah, that's not on the SF86 anywhere, so. Mid Thought Eric: Mm-mm. That's funny they didn't even know though. Will: No. They try and scare you in boot camp with what they call like this moment of truth where they try and they get like all serious and they get trying to get you like all in your feels to be like, we're going to find out we know what you did. If you don't come to us right now and tell us, just tell us now and it'll be all right. And then and then you would literally see people go up and tell them. Mid Thought Eric: Test. Mid Thought Chris: Yep. Mid Thought Eric: Mmm. We got you. Just tell us now! Mid Thought Chris: It's so good. Will: And then they'd get escorted out of there and you'd never see him again. Like, dude, just shut your mouth! Nobody's gonna know! Yeah! Yeah! Mid Thought Eric: Yeah, at least take the chance. Well, there was this one sheep. Like, at least take the chance. don't know. No, true. It was just like the weirdest thing I could think of. Yeah. ⁓ Mid Thought Chris: Yeah What are you doing? This one's cheap! Tell me more, Eric! Will: This isn't the Middle East, alright? Mid Thought Chris: That's where I was going. I got you. There it is. What's his hey is producer. What's producer Mike's quota on sound effects. Does he have a quota. Mid Thought Eric: No, that is weird though, like, yeah. Will: ⁓ for the riverside thing. Mid Thought Eric: He's way below it. Mid Thought Chris: No, no, just I was just being Eric and I were joking about that like what's his quota does he have a quota? Will: Okay Mid Thought Eric: Yeah. ⁓ man. That's good. ⁓ Will: Wait a minute. Mid Thought Chris: Buddy ⁓ Chief will we have this segment of the show which I'm sure you are very familiar about ⁓ familiar with ⁓ Called a little bit of news and a lot of nonsense where we kind of like rip something, you know from the headlines just kind of You know kind of chop on it for a little bit ⁓ then we take it from there ⁓ it takes Eric Will: Okay. ⁓ absolutely. The best segment. Okay. I hope it's not... Okay. Mid Thought Eric: It's the best segment. And then we take it from there. Will: Okay. Alright. Mid Thought Chris: ⁓ Roughly 20 minutes to get through like a story and it's it's one of my favorite parts It's what it's one of my favorite parts of the week Let's see who's first. I'm not her I'm not sure who's first a little bit of news a lot of nonsense producer Mike Mid Thought Eric: to share my screen. ⁓ Will: Okay. Mid Thought Eric: surprise us Mike producer Mike surprise us who's do you want first Will: ⁓ he gets to pick the story. Err, ⁓ got it, okay. Got it. Okay. Mid Thought Chris: We sent some stuff a long time ago earlier in the week when we had our production meeting about what we're going to talk about. ⁓ this is Eric. Mid Thought Eric: Just OK, so this is so. ⁓ Mid Thought Chris: Eric for the audio listeners tell us what's going on right now this looks like a baseball game Mid Thought Eric: So just a little insight, here's some, this is a game of the baseball. Here's some inside knowledge. Back before Chris. Mid Thought Chris: Baseball, okay. Will: Oh, there's an Arizona Diamondbacks. My buddy's a huge fan. Mid Thought Eric: ⁓ all right. Well, back before Chris left me, ⁓ we used to play, we used to act like teenagers when we used to play this show together. The show is baseball on PlayStation. Or if you're weird, you get an Xbox, but whatever. ⁓ But one of Chris's one of Chris's favorite players was Pete Alonso from the Mets. And. Whenever you would, whenever we would play the show, ⁓ Mid Thought Chris: Huge fan. Hey! We did. Will: ⁓ okay. Mid Thought Chris: It's the only thing they had. I was a mild fan. Mid Thought Eric: If Pete Alonzo ⁓ as a first baseman when he got the ball on this is on the game, not in real life. ⁓ I don't know about real life, but on the game, he would very gingerly tag the person out and he'd be very just he'd be very respectful about it. Right. He'd be like. Mid Thought Chris: Not in real life. He was the consummate professional. He was the ultimate gentleman. Mid Thought Eric: Yeah. I mean, we would always joke, ⁓ like with the game graphics and stuff. Pete Alonso was like, I'm really sorry, but I must tag you out. These are the rules. ⁓ He would like be very, very like exaggerated ginger about it and just like the calmest tag you can think of. ⁓ So that was like an insider joke between Chris Midthought, Chris and I. ⁓ But this, this came out. So baseball MLB just started a few days ago. Mid Thought Chris: Yes. Mmm. Yes. Mid Thought Eric: And ⁓ this is actual footage from an MLB game where the second baseman gets the ball and the runner is clearly out and he just gives him a hug to tag him. So that was an out, ⁓ which, you know, that made the headlines of ESPN. Mid Thought Chris: It just stops. It tags him out. Will: End of good game right there, did you see that? Mid Thought Chris: What do you say, Will? Will: I said, did you see that good game that he gave him there too? The other guy? Shortstop? Yeah. It wasn't a grip one. Okay. Mid Thought Chris: He did nice it was an open hand it wasn't a it wasn't like a it wasn't a grab Mid Thought Eric: Of course the Navy sailor mentions that. ⁓ But ⁓ yeah, was like, it was like, you're out. Will: Well, yeah. See, there it is. See, there's a good game. Mid Thought Chris: Was that hey go back rewind a little bit Let's let's see the good game. Let's see the good game. But tab Did he get he got lowered cheek on that one? He got rid on the curve Mid Thought Eric: You're out and you must be tagged. And butt tap. Butt tap. Will: ⁓ there it is. Hahaha Mid Thought Eric: Yeah, that was a little bit of a squeeze too. Mid Thought Chris: He did. That was some cupping. Wouldn't you say that's some cupping? Will: I don't know that was that was kind of open-handed, but that's whatever Mid Thought Eric: Yeah, so. Mid Thought Chris: It was open hand, but he got like lower cheek. He got like lower cheek. Mid Thought Eric: No cup edge happening. But but that thing made the headlines like everybody was talking about it. It was like he hugged him out. And so that was like the new phrase that the new phrase that went viral is a hug out. Right. So, yeah. So so that was that like literally two days ago. Yeah. Yeah, it just happened. So for those. Will: Yeah, yeah. Mid Thought Chris: Eric and I have been doing that for years. A hug out. Was that recent? How long ago was that? ⁓ really? ⁓ Will: Hug out, got it. Mid Thought Chris: Very well. Mid Thought Eric: Everybody out there listening if you're not watching the show There's all seven thousand of you Let let that be an incentive to watch the show because you will that's a good clip. You should you should check that out Mid Thought Chris: Everybody out there listening. So many! Will: Wow, so many. So you have to watch an entire like three hour baseball game just to maybe see a bro hug and a good game? ⁓ got it. Okay. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Mid Thought Chris: Check that out. Mid Thought Eric: No, no, just this. Watch this. Yeah. You get you get chief will and you get a hug out. Yeah. What more could you ask for? Yeah, I must tag. I must tag you out. Yeah. Yeah. But no, was it was on like it was on the main headlines. It went by. It went viral, as they say. Yes. Mid Thought Chris: No, the podcast. Yeah. Watch the podcast. Yeah. Will: And a hug out Mid Thought Chris: And a hug out. Yeah. What more? That's a great tag. I like it. I like it, myth on Eric. How much tag, you know? You are out. Cup. They're viral, viral. It's the CBs. The CBs are doing it. They're all watching you, Chief Will. Yes. Will: viral just like this episode is going to do it's gonna just gonna take off Mid Thought Eric: It's gonna be viral. We're gonna get a least Yeah They're all watching you It's like at the super bowl when they pan to the the people deployed overseas And they got like the jet behind them like the fighter jet behind them and they're all watching the super bowl and clapping that's gonna be us for this episode because of because of chief will Will: Hahaha Okay. Mid Thought Chris: Only Chief Will is in his basement. Exactly. Exactly. What we got next, Producer Mike? Will: Yeah, I've got inch and a half of styrofoam insulation behind me. Nothing exciting, yeah. Mid Thought Eric: Hey, inch and a half. surprise us. Surprise the audience. They're clamoring. They're clamoring at the doors. Ooh. Modelo. Mid Thought Chris: surprise us. CLIMBERING! Will: ⁓ modello, I like that. Mid Thought Chris: Modelo's a nice little free advertisement. I like this one. This is a solid article So the headline in this article if you could scroll up a little bit there produce Mike Florida Hospital sues to evict a patient who won't leave room five months after discharge What we should have done here Will: Wait, so Chris, what we should have done here is we should have blacked out Florida and then we all should have guessed which state and then we all would have unanimously guessed that this was Florida because everything weird and crazy and ridiculous happens in the state of Florida. ⁓ Mid Thought Eric: Whoa. Yeah Mid Thought Chris: I don't think that's true, but okay. Mid Thought Eric: Yeah, what was that Chris that you shared like some guy had a frozen raccoon or something that he's beating people with? Mid Thought Chris: Florida man was arrested for using a frozen raccoon as a weapon in a Waffle House fight. Great headline. read this. Yeah. Florida man gets arrested. Will: Florida, Florida, right? Yeah, see? Florida, Florida man, there you go. I rest- I rest my case. Yes, I rest my case. Florida wins it again. Mid Thought Eric: I got this frozen raccoon for ya! Say it one more time! Will: You Mid Thought Chris: for using a frozen raccoon as a weapon in a Waffle House fight. ooh. That right there is one of the funniest things I've ever heard. But this one is also pretty solid. ⁓ You have a Florida hospital who sues to evict a patient who won't leave the room five months after discharge. ⁓ So I don't go. Will: Shit. Was she homeless? Mid Thought Eric: So my first thought is like, if the hospital is suing, who are they suing? Because if there's somebody living there for however long, who are they going to sue? Mid Thought Chris: Yeah. Yeah, ⁓ they sued the patient sued the patient after this patient is refused to depart the hospital room since being discharged last October It's march now. ⁓ the hospital is also asked a state judge in tallahassee and it for an injunction blah blah blah It's so comfy people wait on me handing foot hand and foot they bring me food non-stop ⁓ Exactly exactly. So I mean if you're Will: Or is this after the fact? Mid Thought Eric: I really like it here, it's just so comfy. The food is the best. Will: Yeah. Three hunts and a cop, baby. Mid Thought Chris: If you have a certain lifestyle, I mean that could be a significant improvement from what you're dealing with ⁓ All the attention in the world so ⁓ Yeah, I suspect the individual is going through some stuff and it's like I don't feel like leaving but ⁓ Yeah, cuz you imagine like you're just like nah, I'm gonna stay it's been like five months Five months you're staying three hearts in a cut Yeah, a hundred percent Mid Thought Eric: They get all the attention. Will: Yeah. Mid Thought Eric: Yeah, it's climate controlled. They have air conditioning. Mid Thought Chris: They do. But yeah, five months. What do you guys think? Five months. Will: ⁓ ridiculous Mid Thought Eric: that's pretty crazy. mean, I've heard of hyperchondriacs and stuff, but Will: I would like to know a little bit more context of the lady. think that she might have been homeless or pretty bad off on the outside and that the hospital represented a much better quality of life. Mid Thought Chris: 100 percent. Mid Thought Eric: ⁓ yeah. Mid Thought Chris: 100 percent. ⁓ Mid Thought Eric: Well, they say, I mean, they say for one reason or another is crazy. It sounds that a lot of people choose jail because it's better than what they have. You know, they're going to get, they're going to get three meals a day. It's climate control, all that stuff. ⁓ so if you think of a hospital, yeah, that's like luxury compared to that. Mid Thought Chris: Yeah. Yep. Will: Mm-hmm. Mid Thought Chris: 100%. It really is. You're like checking my vitals 24-7. Yeah, I'd be sh- Mid Thought Eric: Give me a sponge bath. I need a sponge bath. Mid Thought Chris: I think it probably was a certain probably a situation like that. But yeah You imagine like what it is like five months to be I Couldn't imagine like them putting up with it for like like not putting up with but like for like keeping her there that long They'd be they'd be pretty wild Will: Hahaha Well, if it's anything like the McDonald's hot coffee lawsuit, that'll probably rule in the other patient's favor. Mid Thought Eric: What is the insurance like? ⁓ yeah. Mid Thought Chris: But yeah, you're not wrong. You're not wrong. Will: You Mid Thought Eric: So, so will we have a we have a lot of ⁓ listeners to this podcast ⁓ and they range in lots of ages and generations, but I think there are people that are young enough to not know what you're referencing with the McDonald's lawsuit. Will: Yes, of course. Okay. I think it's like the quintessential ⁓ lawsuit of probably our time to where the judge or the court ruled in the favor of just sheer stupidity. ⁓ Of where the person spilled hot coffee that they had ordered from McDonald's through the drive-through, as I recall the story going. Mid Thought Eric: Mm-hmm. Will: And the lady then decided to sue McDonald's because the coffee gave her second or third degree burns and regardless Yeah, and regardless of how hot the coffee might have been like even like overly hot if McDonald's did something wrong Just the sheer. Yeah, exactly the sheer idea the fact that the coffee burned her and gave her whatever It's just ridiculous. There it is Thank you producer Mike is on it Mid Thought Eric: Yes, and she won. She won that right? You burned that too long. Mid Thought Chris: He is just absolute top-notch the for the audio listeners Stella Lee Beck won 2.8 million dollars after requesting only $20,000 to cover her medical bills from McDonald's Will: I mean, and she might have had good intentions, but that's like where the lawyer comes in and gets their, ⁓ gets their thing and be like, 20 K is not good enough. Let's, ⁓ let's go for a goal for all the, ⁓ all the marbles here. So let's get a payday for you and for me. Mid Thought Chris: Yup. Yeah. Go back up producer Mike to those McDonald's countered with just $800. Holy crap At trial it was revealed that the coffee was served at 180 degrees Fahrenheit to 190 hot enough to cause tissue death in seconds Will: Hahaha Mid Thought Eric: I'll give you 800 bucks. Will: Yeah, but, and a good coffee machine, the thermometer for the boiler is set to between 190 and 195. So 180 is like a cold coffee, if you will. I do know my coffee, that's for sure. Mid Thought Chris: Yes. Yep. Mid Thought Eric: ⁓ Will knows his coffee, that's for sure. Yeah. So you can't work at McDonald's in case you ever wanted to. Because you'd be like, that stuff's too cold. And they're going to be like, ⁓ they'll sue us. We can't do it. Mid Thought Chris: Yes. Yes. Will: It's too cold, it's too cold. Yeah. Mid Thought Chris: That's too cold get this out of my sight No now they have caution contents are hot written on their coffee pot, right? Yeah 2.8 million dollars in what is that? 1992 is that what that said producer Mike? What is that in modern-day? What is that in current money? Will: Yeah, exactly. That's a lot of smackers, yeah, with inflation. That's probably like 6 or 7 mil, maybe more. Mid Thought Eric: Yeah, that's crazy. Mid Thought Chris: That's pretty wild. Yep. $2.8 million. Mid Thought Eric: So she went through the drive through and she got coffee handed to her and it spilled or whatever and it went in her lap and she's like, she's like, I got burned really bad. And they said, here's $800 to make you feel better. Mid Thought Chris: Spilled it on herself. I think it was later. It wasn't even like at the drive-thru Will: Yeah. I would have taken it. Mid Thought Chris: And yes, 800. Exactly. Exactly. Mid Thought Eric: Take it and run! ⁓ man, that's crazy. Yeah. What a world we live in. Will: Take it and run, baby. Mid Thought Chris: Sweet, Eric. What else you got, buddy? You got another story? Will: Mm. Mid Thought Eric: ⁓ yeah, I had I had another one or two or three. I always have lots of stories Yeah. ⁓ here we go Mid Thought Chris: Another one? Another one? Will: ⁓ man, so well prepared. ⁓ here we go. New York Post, you know this is legit. Mid Thought Chris: Well prepared. Ooh, New York. Yes. ⁓ Mid Thought Eric: Now this is in multiple sites. Will: Okay. Cocaine-fueled sharks. Mid Thought Chris: You Mid Thought Eric: Yes, so ⁓ apparently in the in the Caribbean or Caribbean however you want to pronounce that it's it's one of the world's greatest mysteries will never know ⁓ but in the in the Caribbean there's so many people partying in the salt waters it's dense and stuff ⁓ the sharks are inhaling or whatever they do breathe swallow whatever ⁓ cocaine all sorts of drugs Mid Thought Chris: Talk us through, Will: Caribbean yeah yeah ⁓ Mid Thought Chris: You Mid Thought Eric: all sorts of stuff and researchers have been tracking them for 10 years or so and saying that these sharks are high as a kite. Will: So why does this photo have New York posted at the top and then Fox News at the bottom? Mid Thought Eric: I don't know, Mike, producer Mike, let's go to the... ⁓ Is that just a picture or was there actual... Mid Thought Chris: Yeah, I'm confused by that as well. Will: I think we need to consider the source here. ⁓ that was, that was fancy. Mid Thought Chris: ⁓ what is this? He's got like fancy clothes out. That was sick. ⁓ and we're back. Mid Thought Eric: And it disappeared all right, so you be the judge is this real or not Let's play a game well real or not real We're sharks high Will: Yeah, fake news or not. ⁓ yeah real or not real did they peep it Eric did they peep it? Mid Thought Chris: The amount of cocaine that would have to be in that water, amount of, sorry to jump in front of you here, but the amount of cocaine that would have to be in that water to like cause that type of reaction is astronomical. Like that is a lot of ocean, right? Will: haha No, you're fine. How do you know they weren't swimming around the boats that we just blew up in Venezuela that were full of Columbia Bam Bam? I mean, that's a high concentration. Mid Thought Chris: I mean, that's a fair point. don't know. That was, hey, those were just fishing boats, Chief Will. I don't appreciate you. Mid Thought Eric: Uhhhh, I don't know. Will: Yeah, okay. Very well, very well. Mid Thought Eric: Alright, I'm gonna share my screen. Mid Thought Chris: Okay, they test positive. Alright, so I retract my skepticism. Mid Thought Eric: Yeah. There are multiple, multiple sources here. Oops, I think I screwed something up. Will: So if this is like proven in fact, why didn't they make a movie about cocaine shark instead that there's a bear? Cocaine bears are fake, but cocaine sharks are real. Mid Thought Eric: Yeah, well, here's see. This is CNN. I mean, they're pretty, they're pretty, they're not biased. ⁓ but yeah, they, there were at least two sharks that got, that were tripping. Okay. At least two. Well, they got those were the ones that were tested. Mid Thought Chris: Huh. That's gotta be real. Will: ⁓ yeah, yeah, it's gotta be real. She looks like she's high on cocaine. Mid Thought Chris: What do you mean? Will: Two of them? A whole two out of the whole ocean? Mid Thought Chris: A hole too out of the whole ocean? Will: Okay Mid Thought Eric: But yeah, think about it. Come on, think about it. They're these sharks. They're high from cocaine. Mm-hmm. Mid Thought Chris: Look! Look! Will: Cocaine charts, I love it. Just two of them. Mid Thought Chris: Just two of them were tested positive. What is that? What are you highlighting there, producer Mike? Mid Thought Eric: I don't know. Can't see. Mid Thought Chris: I can't see that. 28 of the 85. Oh, the turntables. Mid Thought Eric: AHHHH Will: ⁓ how the tide tables have turned. Mid Thought Eric: ⁓ All right, Michael Scott. acetaminophen. So they're high on Tylenol. Will: They're higher in Tyler now Mid Thought Chris: They're not feeling pain. That's good. That's good. Mid Thought Eric: Yeah, so they just go nuts and eat everybody. Will: ⁓ man. Mid Thought Chris: Sharks are peaceful creatures. I don't appreciate you saying that Eric Mid Thought Eric: Yes, sewer hornets. Mid Thought Chris: You don't have a nest yet. Will: Oof. Mid Thought Eric: You don't have a nest. We're safe in the nest. We're in the nest. Will: Did you have a nest at your house, Eric? Mid Thought Chris: He was supposed to get one, but he keeps delaying. Will: ⁓ well he's got like a- he's got a proverbial nest next door to his house, his name is John Garrett. Mid Thought Eric: What was that? That was, ⁓ John is a great neighbor. Mid Thought Chris: ⁓ jeez! Will: He is a great neighbor. Yeah, sorry. I didn't mean to use last names just and his neighbor John Na-mate neighbor John. Yeah Mid Thought Chris: You got to mute that name out there, producer Mike. That is great. Mid Thought Eric: My neighbor. ⁓ Do you remember an old school where he's like, we're in the nest. You can share whatever you want. And then the Will Ferrell talks about the waitress from Olive Garden and her thong. And they're all like, what is wrong with you? And he's like, what? thought we were in the nest. Are we not in the nest anymore, the tree of trust? Yes, we're in the tree. It's OK. Mid Thought Chris: Hahaha! That's great. Will: Hahaha You Mid Thought Eric: Anyways, I think I had one more quick short story to share. Here we go. All right. Oh, also the New York Post, but it was corroborated by CNN. So we're good. So Dr. Jill. Dr. Jill Biden from from Brobribe, Brobribe. Will: Okay. Mid Thought Chris: Hmm. ⁓ I saw this. ⁓ Awesome. Corroborate it, okay. Who's Dr. Jill? ⁓ okay. Will: Joe Biden. Mid Thought Eric: Of course she has secret service escorts and the one agent shot himself in the leg Mid Thought Chris: Yes, of course. How? Mid Thought Eric: Well, that's what they take that's what the text gets into and the article spuzz that out there was a report Look, there's this report I did ⁓ Basically he was basically he was walking around and they were all walking around. ⁓ that was fancy No You shut Derek Jeter Mid Thought Chris: Okay, did you read it or look look tell us about the report I am intrigued Will: I'm- I'm intrig- I'm intrigued now. Mid Thought Chris: Fancy. Will: So it was a desk pop? Mid Thought Chris: Since everyone does a test valve... Everyone does it, Will! Will: You Mid Thought Eric: How do you shoot Derek Jeter? ⁓ Anyways, I don't remember. They were walking around the airport, whatever, and I think, I don't know if he went to like, I don't know what he went to do, but yeah, he shot himself in the foot. ⁓ here we go. It was in the Philadelphia airport. Mid Thought Chris: Of course. Where did he where do you have it again? In the airport? Will: He was waiting a line with the T's backed up in the TSA lines and couldn't take it anymore. Mid Thought Eric: And he's like, SCREW THIS! Mid Thought Eric: We don't make any accusations here on the show. Will: Okay. Mid Thought Chris: Yeah, I don't mind cigs, but yeah, that's ⁓ possibly theoretically maybe something that's been happening. Will: I don't think that's the S-Service's service weapon as a SIG though.
