- 0:18Welcome to the Pixie Garden Air Podcast.
- 0:20I'm Jess and I'm here with licensed
- 0:22cosmologist and owner of the Pixie Garden
- 0:24Salon in our main store, Delina Markland.
- 0:27Delina, rice water for hair growth is all
- 0:29over social media right now.
- 0:31Does it actually work?
- 0:32Here's the honest answer.
- 0:34Rice water does not make your hair grow faster.
- 0:36Your hair grows about half an inch a month,
- 0:38regardless of what you put on it.
- 0:39Cleveland Clinic reviewed this and said the same thing.
- 0:42What rice water does is reduce breakage.
- 0:45The active compound is called inocetal
- 0:47and it bonds to damaged hair and creates a protective layer.
- 0:50So your end stops snapping off, you retain more length
- 0:53and it looks like faster growth.
- 0:54That part is real.
- 0:55Okay, so the benefit is real, but it is about breakage,
- 0:58not growth.
- 0:59So why not just make it at home?
- 1:01Everyone online says soak some rice in water
- 1:03and you are good to go.
- 1:05You can and a lot of people do.
- 1:07But here is what I have seen with clients
- 1:09who try the DIY route.
- 1:11The concentration is different every single time.
- 1:14One batch is too weak to do anything.
- 1:16The next batch is too strong and you get protein overload.
- 1:20Your hair feels stiff, straw like,
- 1:22starts breaking more instead of less.
- 1:25You have no way to control the pH,
- 1:27no way to measure the inocetal level
- 1:29and you are storing raw starch water in your fridge,
- 1:32hoping it does not go bad.
- 1:34It works for some people, but consistent results?
- 1:37That is hard to get from a mason jar.
- 1:39So what is the professional alternative?
- 1:41That is exactly why I carry the rice water shampoo
- 1:44and conditioner bar in my shop.
- 1:46It uses rice team protein, which is a standardized
- 1:48rice protein extract, same beneficial compound,
- 1:51but in a controlled concentration that is the same
- 1:54every time you use it.
- 1:56There is actually a clinical study from TRIK
- 1:59on this ingredient showing a 20% volume increase
- 2:02after five washes.
- 2:03That is a documented, repeatable result.
- 2:06You are not guessing.
- 2:07You are not fermenting anything on your counter.
- 2:10You just wash your hair.
- 2:11That is way easier.
- 2:12Who is this best for?
- 2:14Anyone dealing with breakage, thinning ends,
- 2:16or hair that feels fragile?
- 2:18Fine hair, especially benefits
- 2:19because the protein reinforcement makes each strand stronger
- 2:22without weighing it down.
- 2:24Color treated hair too because the chemical processing
- 2:26damages that cuticle layer
- 2:28and the rice protein helps fill the gaps.
- 2:30I tell clients to use it two to three times a week
- 2:32and track the difference over four to six weeks.
- 2:35The ends tell the story.
- 2:37Wayne Sialis?
- 2:38When they stop splitting and snapping,
- 2:44you will see the length retention.
- 2:46What about people who are worried
- 2:47about protein overload from a product like this?
- 2:50That is the advantage of a formulated product over DIY.
- 2:54The protein level is balanced.
- 2:55It is not dumping raw starch onto your hair
- 2:57in unpredictable amounts.
- 2:59If someone has very protein-sensitive hair,
- 3:01I say start with once a week and see how it feels.
- 3:04But honestly, I have not had a single client
- 3:06get protein overload from the bar.
- 3:08That is the difference between a salon-tested product
- 3:11and a kitchen experiment.
- 3:14Makes total sense.
