- 0:02Speaker 1: The third year Dodger, two time World Series champion Justin
- 0:06Speaker 1: Rableski joining Dodgers territory. Justin, thanks so much, man.
- 0:10Speaker 2: We appreciate you being here.
- 0:12Speaker 1: I know you guys are you know, pulled in so
- 0:13Speaker 1: many different directions, but to have you on here is
- 0:17Speaker 1: a privilege. I appreciate you first and foremost. This has
- 0:21Speaker 1: been a pleasure to watch you pitch this season. How
- 0:24Speaker 1: would you assess your first big league season as a starter.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's you know, it's it's going. Uh,
- 0:31Speaker 3: it's going well.
- 0:31Speaker 4: I'm learning on the fly, you know, just kind of
- 0:33Speaker 4: as I've been doing the past couple of years. Is
- 0:36Speaker 4: just trying to trying to learn and trying to you know,
- 0:38Speaker 4: improve as I can. And uh, yeah, it's it's been
- 0:41Speaker 4: a lot of fun and I'm having a good time.
- 0:43Speaker 3: So I guess that that checks that box too.
- 0:46Speaker 5: So, uh, I'm not gonna say hater. They're they're entering
- 0:51Speaker 5: the season you get in that starting rotation. There are
- 0:55Speaker 5: some haters, there are some doubters about Justin Robleski's ability
- 0:59Speaker 5: as a starter. For me, I'm not saying I was
- 1:01Speaker 5: a hater or doubter. I just saw you dominate dudes
- 1:03Speaker 5: out of the bullpen, and I was like, I want
- 1:06Speaker 5: that guy there.
- 1:07Speaker 3: He's so damn.
- 1:07Speaker 5: Good at this. Like, how how good does it feel
- 1:12Speaker 5: to to know, like you you are succeeding in this
- 1:14Speaker 5: role you always hope you can do. Uh, that was
- 1:17Speaker 5: always the goal for you, to be a starter. I
- 1:20Speaker 5: don't know how much you know you tune out the
- 1:22Speaker 5: outside noise. I'm certain that's the only way to do
- 1:25Speaker 5: this job well. But at some point too, you also
- 1:28Speaker 5: need to be like, given one of these the people
- 1:30Speaker 5: who said, no, this guy needs to be in the bullpen,
- 1:32Speaker 5: how does it feel just to you know, know that
- 1:34Speaker 5: you can do this job so well?
- 1:36Speaker 3: No, it feels good.
- 1:37Speaker 4: I mean, I mean, you know, I never you know,
- 1:40Speaker 4: I never doubted kind of my ability to succeed in
- 1:44Speaker 4: this role. I always felt like, you know, I have
- 1:46Speaker 4: I have the ability to have the I don't know,
- 1:49Speaker 4: like the work effort, like the workout, think and everything else.
- 1:52Speaker 4: Like I know that, you know, I was going to
- 1:55Speaker 4: find a way to succeed. And I think that was
- 1:57Speaker 4: regardless of role. I think, you know, I've had that
- 1:59Speaker 4: confidence in myself to to be able to go out
- 2:01Speaker 4: there and get out whenever I need to whether that's
- 2:04Speaker 4: in a bullpen capacity, whether it's as a starter, and
- 2:07Speaker 4: as you guys know, it's on this team. It's it's
- 2:09Speaker 4: not always you know, it's not easy to find your spot,
- 2:12Speaker 4: especially as a young guys. It's it's tough to kind
- 2:15Speaker 4: of figure out where you fit in. But at the
- 2:16Speaker 4: end of the day, you know, I felt like, you know,
- 2:20Speaker 4: if I was given the opportunity, if I was finally
- 2:22Speaker 4: given you know, a run of more than you know,
- 2:24Speaker 4: two or three starts in a row, that I could
- 2:27Speaker 4: I could figure this thing out and be a starter,
- 2:29Speaker 4: And you know, yeah, it feels good to kind of
- 2:31Speaker 4: be able to prove that, you know, when everyone's telling
- 2:34Speaker 4: you you can't do that and oh you don't have
- 2:36Speaker 4: the stuff, Oh you don't have this, you know, have that,
- 2:38Speaker 4: and uh yeah, it's it's it's kind of nice to
- 2:41Speaker 4: to to kind of show people like, hey, I can
- 2:43Speaker 4: do this and I am capable of it. But at
- 2:44Speaker 4: the same time, you know, it's always people are gonna
- 2:49Speaker 4: people are gonna say what they want regardless, and you
- 2:51Speaker 4: kind of got to tune it out and just kind
- 2:52Speaker 4: of stay in your own world and stay locked into
- 2:54Speaker 4: to what you know, you know gets gets you the
- 2:57Speaker 4: results that you want, whether that those are results are
- 3:00Speaker 4: coming right away or whether you know they're going to
- 3:02Speaker 4: come in the future. I think that's kind of the
- 3:04Speaker 4: big thing.
- 3:06Speaker 6: Bob, Well, you talked about it a little bit, but
- 3:08Speaker 6: coming into spring, we were kind of looking at the
- 3:10Speaker 6: starting rotation and thought, you know, maybe the Dodgers would
- 3:12Speaker 6: use a sixth starter, kind of a piggyback role, and
- 3:14Speaker 6: you seem to be the logical fit.
- 3:16Speaker 2: And then you said, I'm gonna take that opportunity and
- 3:18Speaker 2: run with it.
- 3:19Speaker 6: And now we can't picture the Dodgers rotation without you
- 3:22Speaker 6: as you were making that adjustment. Obviously, you've had this stuff,
- 3:24Speaker 6: You've had the experience, But what's different about pitching out
- 3:27Speaker 6: a relief and then pitching in rotation and how do
- 3:30Speaker 6: you use those skills that ultimately helped to become this
- 3:33Speaker 6: effective of a starter.
- 3:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I think I think a lot of it has
- 3:37Speaker 4: to do with the way you manage the game. You know,
- 3:41Speaker 4: last year you'd see me go into my card a
- 3:43Speaker 4: lot more, especially back half and in the playoffs, because
- 3:47Speaker 4: just the way you game plans a little different. Obviously,
- 3:50Speaker 4: as a as a bullpen guy, you're kind of going
- 3:51Speaker 4: out there and you know, you're just you're trying to
- 3:54Speaker 4: create as much miss as you can.
- 3:55Speaker 3: You're you're not worried about, you know.
- 3:58Speaker 4: How long can I go or how long can I
- 4:00Speaker 4: last in this game to save the guys behind me.
- 4:02Speaker 3: It's just like I need to you know, I'm coming.
- 4:05Speaker 4: And that was something I had to learn, is like
- 4:06Speaker 4: I'm coming in this game because I fit this lane
- 4:09Speaker 4: that is coming up in the order, and I need
- 4:13Speaker 4: to throw my best stuff and I need to, you know,
- 4:15Speaker 4: make these guys swing a miss and I needed to
- 4:17Speaker 4: get out of this inning. You know, however, whatever it takes.
- 4:21Speaker 4: And as a starter, it's definitely more of a there's
- 4:24Speaker 4: more of a chess match. You can tell, there's more
- 4:26Speaker 4: of a plan versus you just because obviously, like you know,
- 4:31Speaker 4: I've I've been on enough teams in Propol now and
- 4:34Speaker 4: being on our team and just kind of watching how
- 4:36Speaker 4: guys prepare, there's a lot more preparation for a starter
- 4:39Speaker 4: than there's for a reliever, just because obviously you're going
- 4:42Speaker 4: to have more bats off the starter, and I think
- 4:45Speaker 4: that's something you got to adjust to and realize. As
- 4:48Speaker 4: being a starter is the game plans a little different
- 4:50Speaker 4: and Also, the game plan is going to change sometimes,
- 4:53Speaker 4: Like certain guys are gonna hunt you in certain spots
- 4:55Speaker 4: and certain teams are going to look for certain things.
- 4:58Speaker 3: And that's just kind of the fun of being a.
- 4:59Speaker 4: Starter is trying to figure that out as fast as
- 5:01Speaker 4: you can and then exploit those those game plans that
- 5:04Speaker 4: they have against you. So there's a lot of different things,
- 5:08Speaker 4: you know, being a starter or reliever, But I think
- 5:10Speaker 4: the most the biggest difference is the game planning and
- 5:13Speaker 4: just kind of that chess match is being played, whereas
- 5:15Speaker 4: as a reliever, you're not playing that chess match as much.
- 5:18Speaker 4: You still are, but it's you know, you're not facing
- 5:20Speaker 4: the guy multiple times for the most part.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Justin when you talk about the game plan, I wonder
- 5:24Speaker 1: what your game plan is going to what is expected
- 5:27Speaker 1: to be a start for you tomorrow in Sacramento. I mean,
- 5:30Speaker 1: it is a bandbox, right of course. It's a very
- 5:32Speaker 1: unique park. This is a weird situation for the athletics.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Do you play the park, do you go with your strengths?
- 5:39Speaker 1: How will you approach that to keep the ball in
- 5:41Speaker 1: the yard because that is very difficult to do in Sacktown.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, you know, what.
- 5:47Speaker 4: It's funny because in the major leagues, like, yeah, this
- 5:50Speaker 4: is you know, this is a park that you're that
- 5:53Speaker 4: is more hit or friendly, right, But at the same time,
- 5:57Speaker 4: you know, when I played here in the PCL, I
- 5:58Speaker 4: was like, thank god, we're going to sack, Like this
- 6:00Speaker 4: is one of the best places to pitch in the league.
- 6:02Speaker 4: So it's funny that kind of you know, the just
- 6:07Speaker 4: the way it's different. But yeah, I'm not you know,
- 6:11Speaker 4: I'm not going to try to change based on what
- 6:13Speaker 4: the ballpark is. You know, maybe I'll give up some
- 6:15Speaker 4: cheap homers, maybe I won't. Maybe you know, I'll go
- 6:19Speaker 4: seven scoreless, maybe I'll go seven two rounds. Whatever, whatever
- 6:22Speaker 4: happens happens. At the same time, I think it's just
- 6:25Speaker 4: again worrying about what I can control and the things
- 6:27Speaker 4: that you know, matter within my process and making sure,
- 6:31Speaker 4: you know, I understand the hitters and kind of how
- 6:33Speaker 4: they are reacting, and yeah, just kind of going going
- 6:37Speaker 4: status quo for me, just trying to go out there
- 6:39Speaker 4: and get as deep in the game as I can,
- 6:41Speaker 4: and you know, wherever that may take may take me,
- 6:44Speaker 4: It'll take me.
- 6:45Speaker 7: A s Geek is MLB's official ticket marketplace. And in

- 7:06Speaker 8: go red dot though, because you might not get any balls.

- 7:43Speaker 7: Thank you to see.
- 7:44Speaker 5: Geek and yeah, you mentioned pitching deep in the game
- 7:47Speaker 5: seven innings, eight innings. Some people would call you old
- 7:50Speaker 5: school throwback. I don't know if you saw this. It's
- 7:52Speaker 5: the Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez had some high praise
- 7:56Speaker 5: for the kid there. It's a kid that's very unusual,
- 7:58Speaker 5: good character on the mound. It hits location like an
- 8:01Speaker 5: old timer, changes speed with each pitch. See the smile
- 8:06Speaker 5: on your face a little bit there, you know, Like
- 8:08Speaker 5: what does it mean to hear from Pedro Martinez, Like
- 8:11Speaker 5: the fact that he's watching you. He's impressed with what
- 8:13Speaker 5: you're doing. The same with the other guys in the rotation.
- 8:17Speaker 5: I mean last year pitching with Clayton Kershoff, future Hall
- 8:19Speaker 5: of Famer, learning from him, but getting in this day
- 8:23Speaker 5: and age of you know, obviously we'll probably talk about
- 8:25Speaker 5: it a little bit.
- 8:25Speaker 3: You know.
- 8:25Speaker 5: The strikeout numbers for you probably aren't where you want
- 8:28Speaker 5: to be. But it doesn't matter. What you're doing, what
- 8:30Speaker 5: you need to do for the team, getting deep into games,
- 8:33Speaker 5: pitching every six days, getting out So that's that's your
- 8:36Speaker 5: fucking job, you know, and you're killing it. What does
- 8:39Speaker 5: it mean to see, you know, what what Pedro had
- 8:41Speaker 5: to say for you or about you.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's super cool.
- 8:44Speaker 4: You know, it's super cool to see you know, anyone,
- 8:48Speaker 4: you know that that played at a high level saying
- 8:50Speaker 4: stuff like that. Let alone, you know a guy that
- 8:53Speaker 4: that's arguably one of the best pictures of all time,
- 8:55Speaker 4: are the best pictures of all time to certain people.
- 8:59Speaker 4: So I think, yeah, it's it's super cool to see that.
- 9:02Speaker 4: It was it was kind of funny to see that,
- 9:04Speaker 4: and yeah he said the whole shark thing, which is
- 9:06Speaker 4: which is funny. In the clubhouse right now, Meggie's Maggie's
- 9:09Speaker 4: eating up on that.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Which is pretty good. But yeah, it's it's pretty pretty
- 9:14Speaker 3: funny stuff.
- 9:15Speaker 4: But yeah, I love it. It's really cool. You know,
- 9:18Speaker 4: Pedro's obviously what a great picture. And yeah, I've always
- 9:22Speaker 4: I've always thought his his kind of you know, post
- 9:25Speaker 4: pitching and and his you know, analysis and stuff is good.
- 9:28Speaker 4: And yeah, I like watching him over there on TVs.
- 9:31Speaker 4: So super cool, someone I really respect, and yeah, what
- 9:35Speaker 4: what a beast when he played man it was. I
- 9:38Speaker 4: still go and watch on his starts whenever I get
- 9:40Speaker 4: the chance, and whenever they pop up on my Instagram,
- 9:42Speaker 4: I'll see like a clip of a start and I'll
- 9:44Speaker 4: be like, all, let's go back and watch what he
- 9:45Speaker 4: was doing.
- 9:46Speaker 3: So yeah, it's pretty cool.
- 9:48Speaker 5: Yeah, he was an absolute animal. Quick follow, quick follow
- 9:50Speaker 5: on this. So, I mean, we've we've grown up with
- 9:53Speaker 5: you being robo. Where are you robo versus shark? You're
- 9:56Speaker 5: saying that's kind of taking over the clubhouse there, and
- 10:00Speaker 5: of the second part, I want to know what you prefer? Uh.
- 10:03Speaker 5: And then also have you've seen this monstrosity that's that
- 10:08Speaker 5: that is justin Rableski the shark, So shout out Nike.
- 10:14Speaker 4: Yeah there, so that's like the that's like the brain
- 10:18Speaker 4: rod like shark. Right, that's the Trilileo trella law. Right,
- 10:23Speaker 4: that's that that one is with be on it. Which
- 10:25Speaker 4: that's interesting, good stuff. Shout out shout out Nick Frosso
- 10:30Speaker 4: And uh and okay, see he's my boy.
- 10:33Speaker 3: He's he's big on he's big on that stuff. That's funny.
- 10:35Speaker 3: But yeah, as far as.
- 10:37Speaker 4: Robo shark whatever, I mean, I think I think robos
- 10:41Speaker 4: probably more of the nickname that people are gonna know
- 10:44Speaker 4: me by if I had to take a guess, But yeah, whatever,
- 10:47Speaker 4: whatever people want to call me, I can't you know,
- 10:49Speaker 4: I can't control that. So but it's it has been funny,
- 10:53Speaker 4: just kind of see that whole thing, and yeah it's
- 10:56Speaker 4: good stuff.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Yeah it's funny.
- 10:58Speaker 6: I'm looking at what page Mark said about you, and
- 11:00Speaker 6: I think if anyone was called unusual, like if someone
- 11:03Speaker 6: called me unusual, I'd be like, well, that's not very nice.
- 11:05Speaker 2: I don't love that.
- 11:06Speaker 6: But for sure, to be called unusual, that's a pretty
- 11:09Speaker 6: you know, testament to how valued you are. Then for
- 11:11Speaker 6: Pager Martinez to say it, that's like the highest tier
- 11:14Speaker 6: of compliments. So I just love the picture language where
- 11:17Speaker 6: the more uncommon, the the insult is the actual like
- 11:20Speaker 6: better it is and a testament to you.
- 11:22Speaker 3: Uh. But that's what we're trying to do, is be unusual.
- 11:25Speaker 3: That's that's the whole goal. If you're unusual, that's usually
- 11:27Speaker 3: a pretty.
- 11:27Speaker 4: Good thing as a picture, unless you're unusual in terms
- 11:30Speaker 4: of you know, walking too many guys are giving up
- 11:32Speaker 4: too many homers.
- 11:33Speaker 3: That's r so you don't want to be. But other
- 11:35Speaker 3: than that, it's a good thing.
- 11:37Speaker 2: The weirder the better, especially for lefties.
- 11:39Speaker 6: But you mentioned with watching Pedro, is are there any
- 11:42Speaker 6: other pictures I know you've had so many already in
- 11:44Speaker 6: your early career that you could do watch in real time? Kershaw,
- 11:47Speaker 6: you have to show, Hey, once a week, I'm a
- 11:48Speaker 6: moto just a staff full of aces. But when you
- 11:51Speaker 6: were growing up or even now, were there specific pictures
- 11:54Speaker 6: that you were locked in and watching starts on?
- 11:58Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I think for me, I I grew
- 12:00Speaker 4: up a Cubs fan, so kind of anyone that was
- 12:02Speaker 4: good in that Cubs rotation, especially you know, watching an
- 12:05Speaker 4: area to do what he did for that period of time,
- 12:08Speaker 4: and he was a guy I like to watch. But really,
- 12:10Speaker 4: anyone like Hendrix Leicster, that whole rotation. Those are the
- 12:13Speaker 4: guys that I watched a bunch and but I still like,
- 12:16Speaker 4: wasn't like Super I don't know, I wasn't like, oh
- 12:20Speaker 4: I got to watch every day. That wasn't really how
- 12:22Speaker 4: I consume baseball. I just like to play it more
- 12:24Speaker 4: than you know. Yeah, I'd watch the Cubs, and as
- 12:26Speaker 4: I got older, like into high school, end of high school,
- 12:28Speaker 4: I started watching every game.
- 12:30Speaker 3: And but I think, you know, once I got.
- 12:32Speaker 4: Into college, that's kind of when I really started being like, Okay,
- 12:35Speaker 4: let's watch who's great right now, Let's watch who's really good.
- 12:39Speaker 3: And so I would watch Garrett Cole.
- 12:40Speaker 4: I would watch, you know, I think a guy that
- 12:42Speaker 4: I had circled, and I would watch every start was
- 12:44Speaker 4: de Grom, just like anyone during that era when he
- 12:47Speaker 4: was just like this guy's throwing one hundred every pitch,
- 12:50Speaker 4: like this is crazy, How's how's this? How's he doing this?
- 12:53Speaker 4: I'm sure the kids in college right now are watching
- 12:55Speaker 4: Miserowski kind of the same way. I mean, like what
- 12:57Speaker 4: is happening? But at the same time, yeah, that like,
- 13:01Speaker 4: those are my guys. Obviously, i'd watch Curse when I could.
- 13:03Speaker 4: It's just tough being on the East coast, you know,
- 13:06Speaker 4: to stay up till ten o'clock to watch watch a
- 13:08Speaker 4: Curse starts a little different, but whenever I could, I'd
- 13:11Speaker 4: watch Cursive starts and just kind of anyone who is
- 13:14Speaker 4: really good, sure's Heer just just all the guys Erlander,
- 13:18Speaker 4: like all those guys, just whoever was great, That's kind
- 13:20Speaker 4: of who I would watch. Whoever's really good and perform
- 13:22Speaker 4: at a high level.
- 13:23Speaker 3: That's what i'd watch. And I'd say I kind of
- 13:25Speaker 3: still do that to this day.
- 13:26Speaker 4: It's just kind of whenever I can tune into the
- 13:28Speaker 4: guys that are that are really good and see what
- 13:30Speaker 4: they're doing and see if I can adjust anything I'm
- 13:32Speaker 4: doing to kind of match match them and stay ahead
- 13:35Speaker 4: of the curve that way.
- 13:35Speaker 3: So yeah, it's it's I just like I like watching
- 13:39Speaker 3: people who are really good and seeing what I can
- 13:41Speaker 3: take from them.
- 13:43Speaker 1: You said that you don't care what people call you, uh,
- 13:46Speaker 1: in terms of nicknames you to me, I'm seeing a
- 13:49Speaker 1: little bit of Timothy Chalomay. If Justin Robleski, If Justin
- 13:54Speaker 1: Rableski wasn't dominating on the mound every fifth day or
- 13:58Speaker 1: sixth day, depending upon the count under for the Los
- 14:01Speaker 1: Angeles Dodgers, what would you be doing? What takes your
- 14:04Speaker 1: mind off of baseball?
- 14:07Speaker 3: Oh? Well, that's two different questions.
- 14:09Speaker 4: I think as far as like what I would what
- 14:12Speaker 4: I would like to be doing, as far as and
- 14:15Speaker 4: then what's possible are two different things. I think if
- 14:18Speaker 4: I wasn't playing baseball, I probably would have tried to
- 14:20Speaker 4: pursue golf in some capacity, just because you know, golf
- 14:24Speaker 4: is something that my dad and I, you know, I
- 14:26Speaker 4: grew up playing. I played golf for I played baseball,
- 14:28Speaker 4: So you know, I think that'd be something I probably
- 14:31Speaker 4: would have I don't know, that's just kind of my personality.
- 14:34Speaker 4: Golf's kind of right up my alley and the fact that, like,
- 14:36Speaker 4: you can just practice it and grind and there's always
- 14:39Speaker 4: ways to try and get better and whatever. So that'd
- 14:41Speaker 4: probably be one thing if if I didn't have athletic ability,
- 14:46Speaker 4: I think it would be probably something within an engineering
- 14:49Speaker 4: field of some sort.
- 14:50Speaker 3: I don't know which one.
- 14:51Speaker 4: That's what I was doing my first year of college,
- 14:54Speaker 4: so I think that probably was where it would have
- 14:57Speaker 4: took me. But then obviously ended up going to junior college,
- 14:59Speaker 4: so that that went out the window after after that
- 15:02Speaker 4: freshman year. But yeah, i'd say probably probably something along
- 15:06Speaker 4: those lines.
- 15:07Speaker 1: It's funny too that you say that, because your path
- 15:09Speaker 1: in terms of your collegiate activity and playing baseball was
- 15:12Speaker 1: not linear by any stretch if I'm looking at this correctly,
- 15:15Speaker 1: justin Clemson, then Oklahoma State, State College of Florida in Bradenton.
- 15:21Speaker 1: So tell me how your path kind of evolved to
- 15:23Speaker 1: the point in which you were able to get to,
- 15:26Speaker 1: you know, the draft type of situation and get to
- 15:29Speaker 1: the professional ball. It's not it's certainly not an easy path.
- 15:33Speaker 3: No, not an easy path.
- 15:34Speaker 4: I had a lot of things, you know, quote unquote
- 15:37Speaker 4: go wrong during my college career, and yeah, I struggled
- 15:41Speaker 4: my freshman year pretty heavily. Pretty much got got cut
- 15:44Speaker 4: after that year and that they kind of said, you know,
- 15:46Speaker 4: you're not a fit here anymore. So like dang, And
- 15:49Speaker 4: this was before the transfer portal and all that stuff.
- 15:51Speaker 4: So I couldn't just you know, go to some other
- 15:53Speaker 4: d one. I had to sit out a here if
- 15:55Speaker 4: I did that. So I went to Junior college and
- 15:58Speaker 4: you know, again shout out to College of Florida and
- 16:01Speaker 4: Coach Hill and Coach Batson and you know Donnie the
- 16:05Speaker 4: pitching coach there.
- 16:05Speaker 3: They they really are great people.
- 16:07Speaker 4: They gave me a shot, just kind of went somewhere
- 16:09Speaker 4: where I was able to pitch, and you know, I
- 16:11Speaker 4: was still hitting at the time, so kind of doing
- 16:13Speaker 4: all that.
- 16:13Speaker 3: And then yeah, I ended up. You know, I got
- 16:16Speaker 3: I broke my jaw while I was there.
- 16:18Speaker 4: Like my first our first practice back in the spring,
- 16:21Speaker 4: so that that happened, and then you know, I come back.
- 16:24Speaker 4: I actually got got the wires out of my face,
- 16:27Speaker 4: you know, a five five weeks mouth wire shot. And
- 16:30Speaker 4: then on on the the last day of that I
- 16:32Speaker 4: got the wires out. I remember, went and got some.
- 16:35Speaker 3: Chick fil A.
- 16:36Speaker 4: Couldn't eat it because I was on like liquid diet.
- 16:39Speaker 4: I was on linquid diet for five weeks. I was like, oh,
- 16:41Speaker 4: this is a great idea, let's just eat Chick fil A.
- 16:43Speaker 4: And then I just like couldn't eat it.
- 16:45Speaker 3: Got to the yard. I started that game that day
- 16:47Speaker 3: on the mound pitch that day.
- 16:50Speaker 4: But I went from you know, like a ninety five
- 16:51Speaker 4: guy to like an eighty eight ninety one guy, and
- 16:54Speaker 4: then Covid hits and then ended up, you know, losing
- 16:58Speaker 4: the rest of that season kind of doing whatever, and
- 17:00Speaker 4: then going to Oklahoma State finally feeling like I'm getting
- 17:03Speaker 4: back back on the saddle and feeling good and like,
- 17:06Speaker 4: all right, I can be a top five round draft
- 17:07Speaker 4: pick here if I just stay healthy. And then sure enough,
- 17:10Speaker 4: you know, tear my elbow you know, midway through that
- 17:13Speaker 4: year and it gets surgery and all that stuff, and
- 17:16Speaker 4: then the Dodgers. Dodgers drafted me in the eleven the
- 17:19Speaker 4: eleventh round, which at the time I was upset about.
- 17:22Speaker 4: I was like, dang, like, you know, I wanted to
- 17:24Speaker 4: be a higher round pick and and and everything. But
- 17:28Speaker 4: you know, hindsight is is it's all worked out kind
- 17:30Speaker 4: of the way the way I way God wanted to
- 17:32Speaker 4: and it's all.
- 17:34Speaker 3: You know, everything happened for a reason. I think it
- 17:36Speaker 3: all made me stronger.
- 17:37Speaker 4: And yeah, the Dodgers drafted me was so obviously one
- 17:40Speaker 4: of the greatest things that could have happened, just because
- 17:42Speaker 4: you know, they do such a good job with with
- 17:43Speaker 4: guys with that are coming off surgery and such a
- 17:46Speaker 4: good job with the rehab and everything else. And yeah,
- 17:49Speaker 4: thankfully came back and and I was able to have
- 17:52Speaker 4: a pretty smooth ride right up up to the top,
- 17:54Speaker 4: so hoping to hoping to keep it going.
- 17:57Speaker 3: And yeah, that's that's my story.
- 18:00Speaker 1: That's a good one.
- 18:00Speaker 3: It's a good one.
- 18:01Speaker 5: It's a great story. Appreciate you being open, honest, taking
- 18:04Speaker 5: some time with us. We want to get some more
- 18:06Speaker 5: out of you. We obviously you know you got to
- 18:08Speaker 5: get to the ballpark at some point soon. But I
- 18:10Speaker 5: have a couple here to try to rapid fire.
- 18:14Speaker 4: One.
- 18:14Speaker 5: I'll say, I hope Jerry Harrison Junior doesn't hear the
- 18:17Speaker 5: golf thing, because he's probably gonna start blowing you up
- 18:19Speaker 5: with that.
- 18:20Speaker 8: Two.
- 18:20Speaker 5: Who has the better swing? Is it William Dill Smith
- 18:23Speaker 5: or is it justin insert middle name, Michael Rubleski? Who
- 18:27Speaker 5: has the better golf?
- 18:28Speaker 4: Swing.
- 18:29Speaker 3: I think probably right now, will does. I got down
- 18:33Speaker 3: to like almost a scratch, and.
- 18:35Speaker 4: Then I've been kind of making some changes trying to
- 18:38Speaker 4: improve a little bit, and we're kind of in that
- 18:40Speaker 4: like I'm gonna get worse for I get better phase.
- 18:43Speaker 4: So I'm swinging it a right now, but not not
- 18:46Speaker 4: where I want to be, But yeah, I probably will
- 18:48Speaker 4: right now if I guess I've actually I actually haven't
- 18:50Speaker 4: gotten to play with him yet because he's kind of
- 18:52Speaker 4: had the injury stuff, so we haven't had the chance
- 18:53Speaker 4: to get out there. But last year I didn't really
- 18:56Speaker 4: bring my clubs much either, so this year it made.
- 18:59Speaker 3: It a point.
- 19:00Speaker 5: Well, it's also a different animal when you know you're
- 19:01Speaker 5: in the bullpen. You don't really have that freedom of
- 19:04Speaker 5: every five or six days to know, all right, we're
- 19:06Speaker 5: to this course. We're going to go to this course.
- 19:08Speaker 5: So now you'll be locked in right the the other
- 19:12Speaker 5: part you're you're talking about the you know, obviously getting drafted,
- 19:15Speaker 5: the evolution coming up through the Dodger system. I'm always
- 19:17Speaker 5: kind of curious, like, who would you say you learned
- 19:20Speaker 5: the most from of the many people that make everybody
- 19:25Speaker 5: great in the Dodgers system, Who would you say, like
- 19:28Speaker 5: a coach maybe a teammate that made you the best
- 19:32Speaker 5: version of yourself as you were coming up through the ORC.
- 19:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean that's that's pretty that's a pretty hard
- 19:38Speaker 4: one because it's like there's there's so many people and
- 19:40Speaker 4: so many you know, great coaches and everything in this organization,
- 19:43Speaker 4: but kind of two people that come to mine or
- 19:45Speaker 4: Rob Hill and David Anderson, those two, you know, really
- 19:49Speaker 4: have have you know, David was my pigeon coach in
- 19:52Speaker 4: Hi A and then you know, last year he ended
- 19:55Speaker 4: up he was in Triple A as well, so I
- 19:57Speaker 4: kind of got to to split some time with him
- 19:59Speaker 4: and spend a lot of time with him. But he
- 20:01Speaker 4: he knows my throw really really well. You know, still
- 20:05Speaker 4: kind of ask him questions every now and again. Him
- 20:07Speaker 4: and Rob just kind of trying to figure out, you know,
- 20:10Speaker 4: certain things like hey, when I was doing this, what
- 20:12Speaker 4: was the blah blah blah. So yeah, probably those two
- 20:15Speaker 4: and then obviously in the big leagues, you know, Mark
- 20:18Speaker 4: and Connor and Bartow they all have have had a
- 20:21Speaker 4: super huge impact on me. So yeah, I'd say, if
- 20:24Speaker 4: I had to narrow it down, it's probably those all
- 20:26Speaker 4: those people right there, but that you can't really put
- 20:30Speaker 4: it to one.
- 20:31Speaker 3: I think, you know, you could ask me about.
- 20:32Speaker 4: Any coach I've had in our system and they've had
- 20:35Speaker 4: some sort of impact on me and kind of helped
- 20:37Speaker 4: me in some way. So that's kind of the great
- 20:39Speaker 4: part about our organization is is those kind of you know,
- 20:42Speaker 4: relationships and those people just because they've done a.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Great job and they will continue to do a great job.
- 20:47Speaker 2: I'm sure, all right, Robo A couple of starts to
- 20:52Speaker 2: go at home.
- 20:53Speaker 6: David basse Saft launched your twenty twenty six All Star campaigns,
- 20:56Speaker 6: so we are here to promote that further. You have
- 20:58Speaker 6: pitched fantastically in the first half. It's really been one
- 21:02Speaker 6: of the true I mean, there's several success stories, maybe
- 21:04Speaker 6: the Los Angeles Dodgers, the whole organization is that way.
- 21:07Speaker 6: But to just see you come out and really take
- 21:08Speaker 6: this big step forward in your career, it'd be quite
- 21:11Speaker 6: an honor. If you were part of Dave Robert's staff
- 21:13Speaker 6: in Philadelphia in a couple of weeks.
- 21:15Speaker 2: What would be an All Star mean to you?
- 21:18Speaker 4: It'd mean a ton, you know. I it's something you
- 21:21Speaker 4: know you dream of as a kid. You know, something
- 21:24Speaker 4: when you're playing baseball. You want to be an All Star.
- 21:27Speaker 4: You want to be you know, someone that's considered one
- 21:30Speaker 4: of the best in the game. And I think, you know,
- 21:32Speaker 4: being an All Star would be huge to me. I'd
- 21:34Speaker 4: really uh be something that would mean a lot. So hoping,
- 21:38Speaker 4: hoping to do enough to get it done. But like
- 21:41Speaker 4: I said before, like there's not I can't really you know,
- 21:44Speaker 4: control whether I'm selected or not and and all that stuff.
- 21:47Speaker 4: So it'd be really cool. But again, it's not something
- 21:51Speaker 4: that's like oh if I do. If I do, I'll
- 21:54Speaker 4: freak out, and if I don't, I'll be really really sad.
- 21:56Speaker 4: It's just kind of one of those things where I
- 21:58Speaker 4: trust that, you know, if I can continue to kind
- 22:01Speaker 4: of stay on my path and do what I need
- 22:03Speaker 4: to do and.
- 22:04Speaker 3: Stuff like that will come.
- 22:05Speaker 4: And yeah, it's just but super exciting to kind of
- 22:08Speaker 4: even be in the in that conversation.
- 22:10Speaker 3: So yeah, I'm hoping I can get it done.
- 22:13Speaker 1: I love the fact that you're like an officer and
- 22:15Speaker 1: a gentleman. I realize you're way too young to know
- 22:17Speaker 1: the movie, but you're so poised you wanted to be
- 22:19Speaker 1: an engineer if you didn't have any athletic talent, But
- 22:22Speaker 1: here you are you do have athletic talent. Timothy shallomey
- 22:25Speaker 1: Oscar Award winning dude. But I also know that you
- 22:28Speaker 1: have the dog in you because when the Dodgers were
- 22:31Speaker 1: in Toronto, there was a different justin Rubleski that had
- 22:35Speaker 1: them wall and on the mound, And I love that
- 22:37Speaker 1: about you. So how many personalities do you have? And
- 22:40Speaker 1: tell us about that world series and just kind of
- 22:42Speaker 1: what goes through your mind, what happens to your DNA
- 22:46Speaker 1: when you're in a moment like that.
- 22:48Speaker 4: Yeah, I think you know, that's kind of something you
- 22:50Speaker 4: have to That's also part of your development, figuring out,
- 22:54Speaker 4: you know, where you need to be on that kind
- 22:55Speaker 4: of you know, mental mental scale in order to pitch well.
- 22:59Speaker 4: And as you guys obviously can tell, I need to
- 23:02Speaker 4: be a little bit more revved up than uh, than
- 23:04Speaker 4: than calm. I think, you know, Yosh is a guy
- 23:07Speaker 4: that needs to be a little calmer to kind of
- 23:09Speaker 4: pitch well, and I'm kind of the opposite of that.
- 23:11Speaker 4: So you kind of figure out who you are, and
- 23:15Speaker 4: it takes time. It takes you know, trial and error,
- 23:17Speaker 4: it takes you know, sometimes you can be a little
- 23:19Speaker 4: too much. Sometimes you too, like not enough, so that's
- 23:23Speaker 4: part of it. But yeah, I think you know in
- 23:25Speaker 4: those spots, and that's I'm just not a guy that's
- 23:28Speaker 4: ever gonna back down. I'm not, you know. When I'm
- 23:30Speaker 4: out there, it's it's not I don't know there, it's
- 23:34Speaker 4: a different guy. That's that's what I'll say. I think,
- 23:37Speaker 4: you know, when I'm pitching, it's it's a different guy
- 23:39Speaker 4: than than every day.
- 23:41Speaker 3: And I think, you know, you kind of have to
- 23:42Speaker 3: be that way to to.
- 23:43Speaker 4: Perform at a high level because obviously, if if I
- 23:46Speaker 4: was that way in my normal life, I don't think
- 23:47Speaker 4: a lot of people would like me. So you got
- 23:50Speaker 4: to learn to turn it on and off. But that's
- 23:52Speaker 4: that's kind of who I have to be when I'm
- 23:53Speaker 4: out there.
- 23:54Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm nothing if not a hard hitting journalist here,
- 23:57Speaker 5: I'm not. But the question I would have to follow
- 24:00Speaker 5: that if if one hundred is replacement level, what was
- 24:04Speaker 5: your ex dog during that world series? And what's your
- 24:06Speaker 5: ex dog now?
- 24:09Speaker 3: Replacement level? I don't know, I don't see. Here's the thing.
- 24:15Speaker 3: Here's the thing. I don't live in an expected world.
- 24:17Speaker 3: I live in a real world. So I'd like to
- 24:19Speaker 3: just use dog.
- 24:21Speaker 4: So you know, if I lived in an expected world,
- 24:24Speaker 4: everyone says that I wouldn't be very good sou But no,
- 24:28Speaker 4: in the real world, I'd say, you know, maybe.
- 24:32Speaker 3: I'd say, what's what's what's the standard deviation?
- 24:35Speaker 4: Like, what is it ten on the deviation? Maybe maybe two?
- 24:40Speaker 4: Maybe two dogs? Two dogs above replacement. That's that's I'm
- 24:44Speaker 4: trying to be at. That's that's where I liked to
- 24:46Speaker 4: be at.
- 24:47Speaker 5: You know, I saw I saw m VP levels of
- 24:49Speaker 5: dog in that World series.
- 24:51Speaker 3: It's bare minimum.
- 24:52Speaker 5: Man, We're talking like like a one eighty maybe weighted
- 24:55Speaker 5: runs weighted dog created. Plus I don't know, I'm making
- 24:58Speaker 5: this as we go.
- 25:01Speaker 4: There's there's so many stats now that, like you know,
- 25:03Speaker 4: you can you can say anything.
- 25:05Speaker 3: And someone will believe it's a stat so it's really true.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Woo send us off.
- 25:10Speaker 6: All right, Well, Robo, I know you got to get going.
- 25:13Speaker 6: We have a first of three out in Sack. But
- 25:15Speaker 6: hopefully you get to golf after a solid start tomorrow.
- 25:17Speaker 6: There actually are some good golf courses around the Sacramento
- 25:20Speaker 6: But no, thank you so much for the time.
- 25:22Speaker 2: It has been wonderful getting to know you a little
- 25:24Speaker 2: bit more. And with this interview.
- 25:26Speaker 6: Not only are you number one on the Dodgers Beat rankings,
- 25:29Speaker 6: you're number one on Dodgers podcasters too, So keep up
- 25:31Speaker 6: the good work.
- 25:33Speaker 2: We'll see you later. Things against the Time.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, thank you guys,
