- 0:04Speaker 1: This is the Patriots Catch twenty two podcasts with Evan
- 0:08Speaker 1: Lazar and Alex Bars.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Lazarre and Lazarn Hello, everybody nailed it. Joined has always Barrick.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Here is Evan Lazar and Alex Bars. You know, not
- 0:22Speaker 2: to do with math thing, but that's just the math.
- 0:24Speaker 2: The math just tells you that AJ Brown is gonna
- 0:27Speaker 2: average sixteen yards of catch if you single cover him
- 0:29Speaker 2: on the outside. Trevion's gonna average like four and a
- 0:32Speaker 2: half five yards of carries. What would you rather do?
- 0:35Speaker 2: Give up sixteen yards per pass or five yards heads.
- 0:37Speaker 1: On the situation. And there's all these other factors in it,
- 0:40Speaker 1: but but just on the surf, sure it becomes about
- 0:44Speaker 1: Henderson and Stevenson too, making the most of those opportunities.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Yeah. No, the run game as a whole is a
- 0:49Speaker 2: big fact is.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Yeah, And I think the big thing for Henderson there
- 0:52Speaker 1: is he struggled in traffic last year And if a J.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Brown is bowling a defender out of the box and
- 0:55Speaker 1: it's one less guy, he has to navigate the better.
- 0:57Speaker 1: But yeah, it's still going to be a J. Brown.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Like Touch Touch Touch, Touch, Touch to cut tou Touch
- 1:04Speaker 3: twenty two, Touch Touch, Touch, Touch Touch, Touch Touch.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Twenty Welcome in everybody to the Patriots Cash twenty two podcast.
- 1:12Speaker 2: I'm Evan Lazar, joined as always by Alex barth Ace
- 1:15Speaker 2: behind the glass Mini Camp barth Mini Caamp. We got
- 1:19Speaker 2: some real football to talk about. I'm excited to do
- 1:22Speaker 2: that with you guys for the next couple of hours,
- 1:24Speaker 2: and we'll take calls and emails at some point in
- 1:26Speaker 2: the show. But I got a list of things that
- 1:28Speaker 2: I want to talk about that Alex and I have
- 1:30Speaker 2: seen over the last two days of Patriots Mini Camp.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Today was a lighter day, full disclosure, not a fast
- 1:39Speaker 2: paced practice, more of a jog through, walk through type
- 1:43Speaker 2: of practice. I wouldn't necessarily say there's a ton of
- 1:45Speaker 2: glean from this practice individually, Alex, but we've seen four
- 1:49Speaker 2: of these now this spring. I feel like we're starting
- 1:52Speaker 2: to get to a point where there's some real takeaways
- 1:55Speaker 2: and real things to dig our teeth into. So we'll
- 1:58Speaker 2: we'll definitely do that over the course of this show,
- 2:01Speaker 2: and it's exciting. It's exciting to be back out there.
- 2:05Speaker 2: I'm trying my best to get some color, get some
- 2:07Speaker 2: tan because I was on the coast from the winter.
- 2:10Speaker 2: We got you through the FIFA perimeter, which was not easy.
- 2:14Speaker 2: That was a whole ordeal. But you're here and that's
- 2:18Speaker 2: the most important thing. So for everybody that doesn't know,
- 2:24Speaker 2: if you're not coming to the game, then this is
- 2:26Speaker 2: not an easy place to be right now. So the
- 2:29Speaker 2: FIFA perimeter, we got barth in. Everything is fine. We'll
- 2:32Speaker 2: see about the next couple of weeks. But speaking of
- 2:35Speaker 2: the next couple of weeks, before we get into mini camp,
- 2:39Speaker 2: because of the World Cup, we've had to move the
- 2:41Speaker 2: radio schedule around just a little bit, so I want
- 2:44Speaker 2: to mention this a couple of times. So for the
- 2:46Speaker 2: next two weeks, Catch twenty two will be two to
- 2:49Speaker 2: four o'clock Eastern time on Wednesdays, so normally we're twelve
- 2:53Speaker 2: to two, but we're gonna have PEU from twelve to
- 2:56Speaker 2: two on Wednesday, and then Catch twenty two will be
- 2:59Speaker 2: on right after that from two to four, So you
- 3:01Speaker 2: have four straight hours on Wednesday of Patriots dot Com radio,
- 3:05Speaker 2: which is pretty cool. So that's going to be the
- 3:07Speaker 2: schedule the next couple of weeks. I think there's maybe
- 3:10Speaker 2: one other inside the FIFA dates of podcasting, but we
- 3:15Speaker 2: should be back at the normal time on that final Wednesday,
- 3:18Speaker 2: and then once training camp rolls around, all this will
- 3:21Speaker 2: be over. So that's the schedule for the next couple
- 3:25Speaker 2: of weeks there, and I'll mention it again at the
- 3:27Speaker 2: end of the show. Let's get into it though, Let's
- 3:29Speaker 2: get into training camp or mini camp thinking training camp
- 3:32Speaker 2: on my mind, mini camp here. Over the last couple
- 3:36Speaker 2: of days, I have a bunch of you know, topics
- 3:40Speaker 2: to discuss, and you know, we'll get even more and
- 3:43Speaker 2: more to the bottom of the roster as we do
- 3:45Speaker 2: on this show. But the first just topic off the
- 3:48Speaker 2: top that I wanted to talk about. I think it's
- 3:52Speaker 2: probably one of the bigger storylines around the team right
- 3:54Speaker 2: now that maybe is getting a little bit overshadowed by
- 3:58Speaker 2: Christian Gonzales's participation, gave Acus' lack of participation, which we'll
- 4:03Speaker 2: get to. But over the course of the spring, and
- 4:06Speaker 2: I would say, especially yesterday, we have just seen a
- 4:09Speaker 2: really sharp Drake may in my opinion, really someone that
- 4:13Speaker 2: just looks at ease in this offense, which you would
- 4:15Speaker 2: expect coming off of last season. But yesterday I felt
- 4:19Speaker 2: like he kind of lit up that red zone periods,
- 4:22Speaker 2: those live periods. I think he had two or three incompletions,
- 4:26Speaker 2: the ball wasn't really hitting the ground. Some of them
- 4:27Speaker 2: were checked downs and shorter throws, but some down the
- 4:30Speaker 2: field throws to aj Brown Hunter, Henry ormondre Stevenson on
- 4:34Speaker 2: a vertical route out of the backfield. I mean, it
- 4:36Speaker 2: just looked like he is in complete command of the
- 4:39Speaker 2: system in year two. And as we know in this
- 4:42Speaker 2: sport Alex, a lot of the time you're driving, you're
- 4:44Speaker 2: driven by your quarterback, right, you know, the quarterback drives
- 4:47Speaker 2: the bus and you're going to go as far as
- 4:49Speaker 2: Drake May is going to take you. And this year
- 4:51Speaker 2: two thing with Josh McDaniels that has gotten a lot
- 4:54Speaker 2: of attention, a lot of a lot of people have
- 4:56Speaker 2: talked about it, written about it, that it's the first
- 4:59Speaker 2: time that Drake May had real system and coordinator play
- 5:03Speaker 2: caller continuity going all the way back to probably high school,
- 5:06Speaker 2: because he didn't have it at North Carolina and he
- 5:08Speaker 2: didn't have it his first couple of years here with
- 5:10Speaker 2: the Patriots. I just think that the return early on
- 5:14Speaker 2: is that it looks like it you can tell that
- 5:16Speaker 2: Drake May is in a system that he's at ease
- 5:19Speaker 2: with what have been your impressions for him really just
- 5:22Speaker 2: across the entire spring, but yesterday in particular.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Again I go back to my take from last year
- 5:27Speaker 1: that it's gonna be nice when we're not every time
- 5:32Speaker 1: there's a practice or whatever, it's not suddenly what is
- 5:35Speaker 1: the state of the organization a quarterback. They have a
- 5:37Speaker 1: good quarterback. We know they have a good quarterback, and
- 5:39Speaker 1: he's playing like a good quarterback. Obviously looks good. I
- 5:42Speaker 1: don't mean this to take anything away from him, but
- 5:44Speaker 1: like you said, it's kind of being buried. I think
- 5:46Speaker 1: it's being buried because we know this is who he is. Yeah,
- 5:50Speaker 1: breaking Drake May good quarterback? Is that new? I know,
- 5:55Speaker 1: don't get me wrong. I know people like to hear it,
- 5:57Speaker 1: but it's not news, which is kind of nice. And
- 6:00Speaker 1: they talked a little bit more about it today. Drake
- 6:02Speaker 1: May did like we're able to Josh McDaniels, they all did,
- 6:04Speaker 1: about how the change it. The big focus for him
- 6:08Speaker 1: this offseason is the pre snap stuff and getting them
- 6:11Speaker 1: in the right play the line of scrimmage and making
- 6:12Speaker 1: adjustments and things like that. That's not something you're gonna
- 6:16Speaker 1: see or judge as much, at least externally in this
- 6:18Speaker 1: setting for us that something will see more when we
- 6:21Speaker 1: get to the game, So that that's something I'm very
- 6:23Speaker 1: interested in. But again, I just think it's great that, like, yeah,
- 6:26Speaker 1: he's had this great spring. I don't know how newsworthy
- 6:30Speaker 1: it is because I kind of expected him to come
- 6:32Speaker 1: in here and have a good spring.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's a fair question of what does
- 6:38Speaker 2: another level look like for Drake May because I think
- 6:40Speaker 2: he was so good last year. Yeah, that expecting him
- 6:44Speaker 2: to make even another leap where he's improving even more
- 6:47Speaker 2: upon last year. You know, he's the runner up for MVP,
- 6:51Speaker 2: so I guess he could be the MVP of the
- 6:52Speaker 2: league right instead of so I just think But I
- 6:55Speaker 2: think the biggest thing though, to get to your point
- 6:57Speaker 2: about the pre snap, Yeah, I think that's thet is
- 7:01Speaker 2: that comes out against better defenses, Like he's going to
- 7:04Speaker 2: be able to go out there against bottom ten defenses
- 7:07Speaker 2: and light it up, Like I have no doubt about that,
- 7:09Speaker 2: And I have no doubt that he would do that,
- 7:12Speaker 2: especially with the supporting cast that they've put around him
- 7:15Speaker 2: this season, with AJ Brown and Romeo Dobbs and all
- 7:17Speaker 2: these guys were going to talk about here over the
- 7:19Speaker 2: next couple hours. But when it got into the playoffs,
- 7:23Speaker 2: and maybe some of this was roster construction and youth
- 7:26Speaker 2: and all that stuff, and it wasn't just him by
- 7:27Speaker 2: any means. But when you face that gauntlet of the
- 7:31Speaker 2: Chargers and the Texans and the Broncos and the Seahawks,
- 7:34Speaker 2: you started to see that the next step to me
- 7:36Speaker 2: for him is not necessarily ahwa, he's got to make
- 7:39Speaker 2: this adjustment better, this mechanic tweet or this rediscoverage better.
- 7:45Speaker 2: It's more so that when it's better competition, when he's
- 7:50Speaker 2: facing other playoff caliber teams and defenses that are at
- 7:53Speaker 2: the top of the league instead at the bottom of
- 7:56Speaker 2: the league. Now they're going to beat up on teams
- 7:58Speaker 2: at the bottom of the league and hopefully are going
- 8:00Speaker 2: to stockpile wins against those teams at the bottom of
- 8:02Speaker 2: the league next season. But the good teams right when
- 8:06Speaker 2: they play Seattle in the opener, when they play Detroit
- 8:09Speaker 2: in Munich, when they play Kansas City, when they play
- 8:12Speaker 2: these really good teams around the NFL that are on
- 8:15Speaker 2: their schedule. To me, that's the next step for Drake Man.
- 8:18Speaker 2: I don't know if it's necessarily something that's super tangible
- 8:22Speaker 2: right now, like I'm seeing a quicker release or I'm
- 8:24Speaker 2: seeing a guy that's seeing it faster through his progressions
- 8:27Speaker 2: or anything like that. It's more, you know, big picture
- 8:30Speaker 2: than that of can he take that next step against
- 8:33Speaker 2: the best of the best when the money's on the
- 8:35Speaker 2: line in the playoffs. But has there been any little
- 8:38Speaker 2: things that you have seen or do you think that
- 8:40Speaker 2: it's worked? Still far away from being able to come
- 8:43Speaker 2: to those conclusions.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I just it's a tough setting to judge that
- 8:46Speaker 1: kind of thing. Doesn't mean it's not there. I just
- 8:48Speaker 1: think it's it's tough in this, like a lot of
- 8:51Speaker 1: things in the spring, like you're especially today, it's going
- 8:54Speaker 1: so slow and they're trying to get you're not changing
- 8:56Speaker 1: the plays a ton when you're installing because you've got
- 8:58Speaker 1: to run the plays trying to install. So it's it's
- 9:01Speaker 1: a little early for that.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Okay, let's get into some of the other news and
- 9:05Speaker 2: notes here, attendance stuff, things of that nature. I think
- 9:11Speaker 2: I want to start Christian Gonzalez, but I'm actually tempted
- 9:14Speaker 2: to start game backs.
- 9:15Speaker 1: I think Akis is a bigger story. I think it's
- 9:17Speaker 1: a bigger story too, just because Gonzalez is if Gonzalez
- 9:20Speaker 1: wasn't here, Gonzalez would be a bigger story. Yeah, I
- 9:23Speaker 1: obviously he's not signed. I guess we are starting Gonzalez
- 9:25Speaker 1: and saying this. I think the way you start with
- 9:27Speaker 1: Acus has explained why you're not starting with Gonzales and
- 9:31Speaker 1: it's obviously no ideal. He's not signed. Yep, he didn't
- 9:33Speaker 1: fully participate yesterday. He did individual drills and he did
- 9:37Speaker 1: the walk through stuff. He did the walk through stuff today.
- 9:41Speaker 1: I don't like, do you see any major cause for alarm? No,
- 9:45Speaker 1: just that he's not signed. It feels like they're in
- 9:47Speaker 1: as good a spot as they realistically could be. And
- 9:51Speaker 1: just for a little background, Evan, I went back and
- 9:54Speaker 1: looked at last year's draft class and when those guys
- 9:56Speaker 1: signed their extensions, just to get an idea of the
- 9:58Speaker 1: Patriots ahead of schedule. They behind schedule, right. Derek Stingley
- 10:01Speaker 1: signed his on March seventeenth. He was first. That's obviously early.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Tyler Smith and Charles Cross, two offensive linemens, signed the
- 10:07Speaker 1: last week in April, so that's three players from that
- 10:10Speaker 1: whole first round. The next guy to sign was Garrett Wilson.
- 10:13Speaker 1: That was on July fourteenth, Sauce Gardner signed the next day,
- 10:16Speaker 1: and Kyle Hamilton signed on August twenty seventh, and they
- 10:18Speaker 1: all kind of did what Gonzalz is doing right now. Yeah,
- 10:21Speaker 1: they participated in mini camp, but not fully so I
- 10:26Speaker 1: don't know. I'm not that worried about it as things
- 10:28Speaker 1: stand right now. I'm not that worried. This is, I think,
- 10:30Speaker 1: more or less where most teams and players are at
- 10:32Speaker 1: this point in the negotiation.
- 10:34Speaker 2: I'm not I actually would come away from his being
- 10:38Speaker 2: here in a little bit of parerstation that he participation
- 10:41Speaker 2: that he has done, and I would also say, maybe
- 10:45Speaker 2: this is a little bit inside baseball, but having a
- 10:47Speaker 2: press conference yesterday, yeah, after yesterday's practice, I would take
- 10:51Speaker 2: all those as pretty positive science. Because if they were
- 10:56Speaker 2: having a like hostile contract to goiations where it wasn't
- 11:01Speaker 2: going well and the two sides were worlds apart, and
- 11:04Speaker 2: this was a true players don't hold out a ton anymore.
- 11:09Speaker 2: So even if it was a hold in, if it
- 11:11Speaker 2: was a true hold in, I'd be like a little
- 11:13Speaker 2: bit more concerned about it. But I actually think the
- 11:16Speaker 2: limited of work, amount of work that he has done,
- 11:19Speaker 2: tells me that this is like a good faith gesture
- 11:22Speaker 2: on the Gonzales camp of like, we're hearing some things
- 11:26Speaker 2: that we like and maybe we're getting closer to a deal,
- 11:29Speaker 2: so I'm going to show up and I'm gonna be here.
- 11:31Speaker 2: And yesterday he said that, you know, he has obligations,
- 11:34Speaker 2: like he has an obligation to the team to be here.
- 11:36Speaker 2: He's under contract as of right now. It's not a
- 11:39Speaker 2: situation like Gay Bacchus where he's unsigned and he's going
- 11:42Speaker 2: through even though he's not doing live team, which makes
- 11:45Speaker 2: sense because he's not going to go out there and
- 11:46Speaker 2: risk injury in a live team setting. He's going through
- 11:49Speaker 2: the walkthroughs as the starting you know, right cornerback and
- 11:53Speaker 2: the spot that he's always in, And that tells me
- 11:56Speaker 2: that he obviously doesn't feel like this is gonna lasts
- 12:00Speaker 2: much longer to the point where he's gonna start sitting
- 12:02Speaker 2: things out. So we have seen hold ins Matthew Judon,
- 12:08Speaker 2: Stefan Gilmore. I think those two are probably the most
- 12:11Speaker 2: permanent or pertinent ones that I can think of off
- 12:14Speaker 2: the top of my head. Where Judon in the JIWD Mayo,
- 12:18Speaker 2: you remember Judon was like sitting on mats in a
- 12:21Speaker 2: shorts and a T shirt on the side of the field.
- 12:23Speaker 2: And this was during training camp, not during mini camp.
- 12:26Speaker 2: It was during training camp and Drod Mayo sent him
- 12:29Speaker 2: to the locker room. He said, if you're gonna just
- 12:31Speaker 2: sit out here and lounge around, then just you don't
- 12:35Speaker 2: need to be out here. That this is so far
- 12:38Speaker 2: away from that. Even though he's not doing the live stuff,
- 12:40Speaker 2: so he's holding out of a little bit of what's
- 12:42Speaker 2: going on. I think the participation in the walkthroughs, I'm
- 12:45Speaker 2: sure he's participating in all the meetings that we don't see.
- 12:49Speaker 2: I actually took this as a really positive sign that
- 12:51Speaker 2: Gonzalez has been present in participating as much as he has.
- 12:56Speaker 2: If this was a bad contract negotiation, he either wouldn't
- 12:59Speaker 2: be here, wouldn't be doing anything, and he's at least
- 13:02Speaker 2: doing a little bit of something. You mentioned, Gay Baccus,
- 13:05Speaker 2: you feel that that's the biggest story around the team
- 13:07Speaker 2: right now. I concur I think it absolutely is. It's
- 13:10Speaker 2: a two pronged thing. He's not signed and there seems
- 13:13Speaker 2: to be an injury that Mike Rabel mentioned he's having
- 13:16Speaker 2: a procedure on. There's a lot of different ways to
- 13:19Speaker 2: kind of tackle this subject. Both you know, gay Bacus individually,
- 13:24Speaker 2: what do the Patriots do if gay Bacus and I
- 13:27Speaker 2: would say to extent Harold Landry are not as available
- 13:31Speaker 2: as they were hoping that they were going to be
- 13:32Speaker 2: going into the season. You know, is this a spot
- 13:35Speaker 2: where they're looking to trade for Kevon Thibadeau. Is this
- 13:37Speaker 2: a spot where they're looking to sign a free agent?
- 13:40Speaker 2: What's our comfort level with Elijah Ponder being the guy
- 13:43Speaker 2: right opposite Draymond Jones. But just starting off with Akus,
- 13:47Speaker 2: what's your take on why he's not here and what
- 13:50Speaker 2: we've heard so far about that.
- 13:52Speaker 1: I mean, I would guess it's injury related. Vrabel said
- 13:55Speaker 1: he had a procedure. He was dealing with a hamstring
- 13:58Speaker 1: thing during the pre draft process. You know, he's the
- 14:02Speaker 1: only second round pick, I think the other two second
- 14:04Speaker 1: round picks that were unsigned. He is the only second
- 14:07Speaker 1: round pick that are not signed. He's not the highest unsigned.
- 14:10Speaker 1: I think Mendoza's unsigned.
- 14:11Speaker 2: He is so uh the there were two as of
- 14:14Speaker 2: yesterday when I are higher than him, uh No, that
- 14:17Speaker 2: were second round picks that were unsigned. There were him
- 14:21Speaker 2: and Cashus Howell with the Bengals. Yeah, Cashus Howell signed yesterday.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Afternoon with Cincinnati and signed his rookie contract. So now
- 14:28Speaker 2: gay Backs is not only the lone Patriot rookie that's
- 14:31Speaker 2: not signed draft pick wise, he's also the only second
- 14:33Speaker 2: round pick in the NFL is not signed.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Although oddly enough, the first six third round picks aren't signed.
- 14:38Speaker 1: But yeah, and the only players above him who aren't
- 14:41Speaker 1: signed are Mendoza, Simpson and Omar Cooper Junior.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Yeah, the Brown's got Casey Concepcion done today. Yeah, late
- 14:50Speaker 2: last night.
- 14:52Speaker 1: Yeah. Look, it's it's concerning, though, it's definitely concerning. He
- 14:57Speaker 1: is a player that that they could use, that they
- 15:00Speaker 1: need this year, especially Harold Landry still isn't out of here.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Sounds like he's still rehabbing. And just the wave Rabel
- 15:08Speaker 1: spoke yesterday, I think in the body language and all that,
- 15:12Speaker 1: did it seem like something that was going to resolve quickly.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I would say no. And I think the
- 15:19Speaker 2: biggest you know, somebody asked me on Twitter, I think
- 15:22Speaker 2: was Dave asked me on Twitter. You know, I like
- 15:24Speaker 2: to see I'm small seat concerned about things. He said, what, uh,
- 15:28Speaker 2: how big of a sea concern is this with gay backus?
- 15:32Speaker 2: I have three I'll give you three categories of concern,
- 15:35Speaker 2: all right. You have the small sea, which is like minor, right,
- 15:37Speaker 2: not concern. Then we have like the normal size sea,
- 15:40Speaker 2: which is like a little bit concern like but not
- 15:42Speaker 2: like freaking out that we have the real concern. I'm
- 15:45Speaker 2: right in the middle right now. I'm not like freaking
- 15:46Speaker 2: out yet about this. But it's bigger than small sea
- 15:49Speaker 2: concern at this point. And I think it kind of
- 15:51Speaker 2: relates back to not necessarily that I think gay Bacus
- 15:55Speaker 2: is in jeopardy of like not having a career or
- 15:57Speaker 2: anything like that, but it's more so that he's behind.
- 16:01Speaker 2: And you know, Mike Smith, the outside linebackers coach, it
- 16:04Speaker 2: admitted it yesterday that yes, he's going to be behind.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Now we can have an argument about how behind can
- 16:12Speaker 2: he really be as an edge rusher, Like, it's not
- 16:14Speaker 2: a position like wide receiver or tight end or something
- 16:18Speaker 2: like that where you need to have chemistry with the
- 16:20Speaker 2: quarterback and understand the whole play concept. Gay back as
- 16:23Speaker 2: plays the right defensive ends, body gets after the quarterback,
- 16:26Speaker 2: he stops the run. Like it's pretty cut and dry
- 16:29Speaker 2: what his job is. So it's not quite you know,
- 16:32Speaker 2: we've seen guys like Nikhil Harry Taekwan Thornton, players like
- 16:35Speaker 2: that that have mostly gotten hurt in training camp and
- 16:39Speaker 2: then fall behind. And when they fall behind, you know,
- 16:42Speaker 2: it's really hard to get back on the train. Like
- 16:45Speaker 2: when the train's moving, it's really hard to jump back on.
- 16:48Speaker 2: And I think that's the question with Akis, is that
- 16:51Speaker 2: even if he's ready to go by training camp, there's
- 16:54Speaker 2: no and he's not even here, Like it's not even
- 16:57Speaker 2: like he's you know, going through mental reps. Like it
- 17:00Speaker 2: sounds like Harold Landry and Morgan Moses are right, he's
- 17:03Speaker 2: according to Rabel, he's not even at the facility.
- 17:05Speaker 1: For a rookie, this is such an important time because
- 17:06Speaker 1: when you're honing your technique, you're learning to playbook things
- 17:09Speaker 1: like that's one thing, like like I said, speak, can
- 17:11Speaker 1: Christians all support to miss this time? Yeah? Of course, yeah.
- 17:14Speaker 1: He he his technique solid, he knows the playbook. He's
- 17:16Speaker 1: got that all down for him. It's really like training camp,
- 17:19Speaker 1: but just getting into football shape. Yeah, and working on
- 17:22Speaker 1: some communication stuff with the other players in the secondary
- 17:24Speaker 1: for gay back, because it's another story. I mean, you
- 17:26Speaker 1: get drafted, I don't care who you are you're essentially
- 17:28Speaker 1: starting from the ground up, so this is this is
- 17:31Speaker 1: important time for him to be missing.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Yep. Absolutely, So that's actus individually. Uh, In terms of
- 17:37Speaker 2: their depth at edge Rusher, it's been a lot of
- 17:38Speaker 2: Elijah Ponder opposite of Draymond Jones. Uh Rabel talked up
- 17:43Speaker 2: Braden Swinson a little bit today and said that he's
- 17:45Speaker 2: had a good offseason and it's been doing all the
- 17:47Speaker 2: right things. So basically, right now, you know, you have
- 17:50Speaker 2: h Draymond Jones, you have Elijah Ponder, Brayden Swinson, and
- 17:55Speaker 2: then you know some of like the UFA guys and
- 17:57Speaker 2: you know back into the roster guys that they've brought in.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Where are you at right now in terms of their
- 18:03Speaker 2: edge depth? But I would actually say it's more like
- 18:05Speaker 2: start hit.
- 18:06Speaker 1: It's all of it. It's just where they add on
- 18:07Speaker 1: the edge. I mean, it's it's their most worrying position
- 18:10Speaker 1: right now. I think I'm as worried about their edge
- 18:12Speaker 1: group as you can be about a positional group in June.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it to me, it's there's no doubt that it's.
- 18:19Speaker 1: If Landry's not one hundred percent, if Akus isn't one
- 18:24Speaker 1: hundred percent, and I mean, when you're talking about those
- 18:27Speaker 1: guys not being one hundred percent, you know, I'm talking
- 18:29Speaker 1: about are they gonna be available this year?
- 18:31Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 18:32Speaker 1: Or if I guess if if if Landry is like
- 18:34Speaker 1: is he the guy he was the second half of
- 18:36Speaker 1: last year? They remember they had to shut him down
- 18:38Speaker 1: in the playoffs, right, he couldn't play in the playoffs?
- 18:40Speaker 1: Is he going to be that coming back? Because that
- 18:41Speaker 1: doesn't help. Who knows where gay Bachus is at. So
- 18:44Speaker 1: that leads to Draymont Jones, who's a fine, complimentary player,
- 18:48Speaker 1: but I'm here to replace Chase on her So it's
- 18:50Speaker 1: a one for one. It's not like the ad was
- 18:53Speaker 1: akis right right, you know, like they brought Landry back.
- 18:56Speaker 1: We'll just forget forget comparing the last year. You have
- 18:58Speaker 1: Draymont Jones, who I think is a complimentary rusher, but
- 19:01Speaker 1: not a guy you want to pin your your pass
- 19:03Speaker 1: rush on.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Yep.
- 19:04Speaker 1: You have Elijah Ponder who played two hundred and fifty
- 19:06Speaker 1: snaps last year's UDFA looked okay, but again you're talking
- 19:09Speaker 1: about a significant jump from a two hundred and fifty
- 19:11Speaker 1: snap passing down role to being a full time player,
- 19:14Speaker 1: which is what he would be if those two guys
- 19:16Speaker 1: are gone and then after them Swinston very little to
- 19:22Speaker 1: no NFL the drive. Jesse Luketta has been a special
- 19:25Speaker 1: teamers whole NFL career and then he was a seventh
- 19:27Speaker 1: round picking Q Hutchins and Udfa and Xavier Holmes. That's
- 19:30Speaker 1: not enough.
- 19:31Speaker 2: Yeah, that's not enough. It's not And you know I
- 19:35Speaker 2: should say, you know, as we're talking about this, and
- 19:37Speaker 2: it feels good to be back in this world where
- 19:39Speaker 2: this is like, you know, this is not enough to
- 19:41Speaker 2: win the super Bowl, right right, Like that's what we're
- 19:43Speaker 2: talking about. It's not that it's not enough. They're gonna
- 19:45Speaker 2: win six games, but it's a good spot to be
- 19:47Speaker 2: back in. But you know, that just kind of compared
- 19:49Speaker 2: it to last year. I just look at it as
- 19:52Speaker 2: to me, Draymond Jones is a watch like calebon Chase
- 19:55Speaker 2: on it Out, Draymond Jones in Harold and Andrey comes back,
- 19:59Speaker 2: Elijah Ponder comes back. Not that I thought they were
- 20:01Speaker 2: moving on from those players, but they're They're back on
- 20:04Speaker 2: the roster. The ad was Akis, Like Akis was supposed
- 20:07Speaker 2: to be the guy that was going to elevate the
- 20:09Speaker 2: talent in this room because Draymond Jones was kind of
- 20:12Speaker 2: just a wash with Chase On to me, So it's
- 20:13Speaker 2: a one for one swap. It's not you're not expecting
- 20:16Speaker 2: him to be uh a game changer that's that much
- 20:19Speaker 2: better than Chase On. So without Acus, without that, you know,
- 20:22Speaker 2: sort of uh sprinkle uh sweetener on top, Like it's
- 20:26Speaker 2: it's hard to see this room, as you know, improving
- 20:30Speaker 2: on last year. I think we're at the point now
- 20:34Speaker 2: and they know more than us about Akis. Where if
- 20:37Speaker 2: I had felt like Akis was going to be I
- 20:40Speaker 2: guess I had questions about Akis as a as a
- 20:42Speaker 2: three down player out of the shoot anyways, I didn't
- 20:45Speaker 2: know if he was going to have the past rush
- 20:47Speaker 2: ability right away to be their most effective guy opposite
- 20:50Speaker 2: of Jones on third down. I thought maybe that would
- 20:53Speaker 2: be more in a rotation with Landry or Elijah Ponder.
- 20:57Speaker 2: I was hoping that Akus was gonna at least be
- 21:01Speaker 2: like your early down edge setter, and then Ponder would
- 21:03Speaker 2: come in on third down and rush the passer. But
- 21:06Speaker 2: they don't even have that ability to do that right
- 21:08Speaker 2: now because he's not here. If you're the Patriots and
- 21:12Speaker 2: you sit here on June tenth, two days into mandatory
- 21:16Speaker 2: mini camp and two of your guys that you're really
- 21:20Speaker 2: counting on to that position, and Landry and Akis are
- 21:24Speaker 2: not here, not participating in these practices. And you pick
- 21:28Speaker 2: up the phone and you call the giants and you
- 21:33Speaker 2: call it John Harbaugh, and you say, we will offer
- 21:37Speaker 2: you what for Caveon Thibodeaux? What's the What's what kind
- 21:42Speaker 2: of picker you willing to part with?
- 21:44Speaker 1: Kaisham Boudi in a fifth?
- 21:46Speaker 2: Do you think that gets it done?
- 21:48Speaker 1: I mean, I think that's the least competitive. I don't
- 21:50Speaker 1: know what else is out there. Although you did have
- 21:52Speaker 1: abdua car to get hurt the other day, so that
- 21:53Speaker 1: could complicate things. But based on what the reports ESPN had,
- 21:59Speaker 1: if it's shown booty in a fifth or just an
- 22:01Speaker 1: outright third, which do you think they take?
- 22:05Speaker 2: I guess it depends on how truly worried the giants
- 22:08Speaker 2: are about Malik neighbors Like, I can't answer that question.
- 22:12Speaker 1: ESPN basically had the expected ranges between a third and
- 22:15Speaker 1: a sixth. So if it's booty in a fourth versus
- 22:20Speaker 1: a third, what do you think the giants take?
- 22:22Speaker 2: Probably booty, right, I do, booty in a fourth, So
- 22:26Speaker 2: I think that that's I personally am right around a
- 22:29Speaker 2: third or fourth, with third obviously would be without Booty
- 22:31Speaker 2: and maybe an early Day three pick. But I think
- 22:34Speaker 2: it's a call you have to make at this point,
- 22:36Speaker 2: even if you think that Acus is going to be
- 22:39Speaker 2: fine and Landry is going to be fine, counting on
- 22:41Speaker 2: those guys, especially Landry for this season, I think is
- 22:46Speaker 2: is a stretch. And you know, like we said, this
- 22:48Speaker 2: is this could be the difference of them making a
- 22:50Speaker 2: deep playoff run and not deep making a deep playoff run.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Is how much pass rush they can get off the edge,
- 22:55Speaker 2: And I would just hate to see all the great
- 22:58Speaker 2: things that they've done personnel wise this offseason, you know,
- 23:01Speaker 2: trading for aj Brown, you know, bring in guys like
- 23:05Speaker 2: Draymond Jones and Kevin Byerd and Romeo Dobbs, and a
- 23:09Speaker 2: draft class that I think has some promise and some potential,
- 23:12Speaker 2: and then you see this sort of glaring need on
- 23:15Speaker 2: the roster when you get out of the spring and
- 23:16Speaker 2: you just kind of let it go by the wayside.
- 23:18Speaker 2: I would hate for this to be the reason why
- 23:19Speaker 2: they don't win a super Bowl. You know, maybe if
- 23:21Speaker 2: they don't win a super Bowl, it's because of all
- 23:23Speaker 2: these other factors that go into the luck thing you
- 23:25Speaker 2: need to win a Super Bowl. But when all of
- 23:27Speaker 2: us can see months out that they don't have enough
- 23:30Speaker 2: pass rush off the edge, I would just hate that
- 23:32Speaker 2: to be the reason. And I look at a guy
- 23:33Speaker 2: like Thibodeaux and I think he plays a lot like
- 23:36Speaker 2: they want him to play. He's built a lot the
- 23:37Speaker 2: same way. He's kind of has those you know six three, six, four,
- 23:41Speaker 2: two fifty five, like that's their measurables, those are their
- 23:44Speaker 2: buckets of thresholds. I think he plays with a good motor.
- 23:48Speaker 2: I think he can use him in multiple spots in
- 23:50Speaker 2: the line, you can stunt them. I think he plays
- 23:52Speaker 2: with a good aggressiveness like I think he has that
- 23:54Speaker 2: Mike Rabel edge rusher type of archetype to him that
- 23:58Speaker 2: I think it would be a good fit here. The
- 24:00Speaker 2: only thing that holds me back with Thibodeau is that
- 24:02Speaker 2: he's in a contract year. He's playing on his fifth
- 24:04Speaker 2: year option, and if you trade a top one hundred
- 24:08Speaker 2: pick for him in the future, then you probably are
- 24:10Speaker 2: going to have to think about extending him if it
- 24:12Speaker 2: works out, because you don't want to give up that
- 24:14Speaker 2: kind of draft capital just for one year. I don't
- 24:17Speaker 2: think you'd want to do that, but I think you
- 24:19Speaker 2: got to make that call if you're Elliott Wolf at
- 24:22Speaker 2: this point.
- 24:22Speaker 1: All right, just along those lines, another option they might have.
- 24:26Speaker 1: How do you feel about your dating Clowney, I.
- 24:30Speaker 2: Mean, I don't feel great about it, Like it's another
- 24:32Speaker 2: veteran body. And maybe that's like for Harold Landry, you know,
- 24:36Speaker 2: like if Harold Landry is it can't give them what
- 24:39Speaker 2: they need, then it's somebody that can play a similar
- 24:41Speaker 2: role to Harold Landry. But I don't love it as
- 24:44Speaker 2: much as I would like to.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Trade it, obviously, but just for what it's worth. Eight
- 24:47Speaker 1: and a half sacks and thirteen games last year in Dallas,
- 24:50Speaker 1: and it's played for Rabel for multiple seasons. Yeap was
- 24:54Speaker 1: when Rabel was an assistant in Houston and then also
- 24:57Speaker 1: played for him in Tennessee for year.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Forgot that Tennessee. I knew he was in Houston with him.
- 25:01Speaker 1: But yeah, it was with him in Tennessee. Like I
- 25:04Speaker 1: don't know, not the worst night and a half sacks
- 25:06Speaker 1: last year. I think it would have led the Patriots.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Right, I think I think Chase On had eight, So.
- 25:13Speaker 1: I'm not just if they can't make a trade. They
- 25:15Speaker 1: need somebody. If they can't make a trade, I'd called
- 25:17Speaker 1: you Davian Clowney, all right.
- 25:20Speaker 2: I could live with Damien Clowney on a one year
- 25:22Speaker 2: deal just to add some depth there, but I definitely
- 25:26Speaker 2: would make that call on Thibodaux at this point, Let's
- 25:29Speaker 2: go to the wide receivers. Kaishan Boody obviously a big
- 25:33Speaker 2: story as well, maybe not as big as the first
- 25:35Speaker 2: two names of Gonzales and Acis, but we saw yesterday
- 25:40Speaker 2: Alex in Tuesday's practice, Kaishan Boody makes a big play
- 25:44Speaker 2: down in the field. Is actually working with Tommy DeVito.
- 25:48Speaker 2: I believe Kobe Minor was the corner and coverage, but
- 25:51Speaker 2: just a classic, you know, go ball, get behind the defender,
- 25:55Speaker 2: toe tap, you know, in the back of the end zone.
- 25:58Speaker 2: It was a pretty classic kaishon Boo moment, and I
- 26:00Speaker 2: think it was It was good and bad at the
- 26:02Speaker 2: same time, because I think it was a little bit
- 26:04Speaker 2: of a reminder of what this guy can bring to
- 26:06Speaker 2: the table. But also maybe we all kind of started
- 26:09Speaker 2: swooning all over again about Kaiseh on Booty and it's
- 26:12Speaker 2: all him being back in the mix here. But to
- 26:16Speaker 2: his credit. You know, it was basically one of the
- 26:18Speaker 2: first reps he took in eleven on Eleven's on Tuesday
- 26:20Speaker 2: after not being here for OTAs, and he made a
- 26:23Speaker 2: play right out of the shoot. We did see some
- 26:26Speaker 2: Booty Brown, Dobbs three receivers, you know, as their top
- 26:31Speaker 2: three guys, you know, rotating in together. But I still
- 26:34Speaker 2: come back to just it being a really crowded room,
- 26:38Speaker 2: and I guess maybe that's a good, you know, first
- 26:40Speaker 2: world problem to have. But on the outside, you know
- 26:45Speaker 2: Brown's gonna play. You're trying to get Kyle Williams, Mac
- 26:49Speaker 2: Collins and kaishaw On Boody all reps behind AJ Brown.
- 26:54Speaker 2: So that's four guys that are basically playing. You know,
- 26:57Speaker 2: Mac Collins is maybe the one guy that plays a
- 26:59Speaker 2: little bit more Z than those other three that I mentioned,
- 27:02Speaker 2: those other two that I mentioned. Yeah, but for the
- 27:05Speaker 2: most part, you have guys that are competing for a
- 27:07Speaker 2: lot of the same work because you know, AJ Brown
- 27:09Speaker 2: and Dobbs are going to be on the field. Bob
- 27:12Speaker 2: Douglas kind of brings his own little thing out of
- 27:15Speaker 2: the slot as the jitterbug slot, speed slot that's different
- 27:18Speaker 2: than the other guys that I mentioned, it just still
- 27:21Speaker 2: felt like watching practice to the point where Kaishawan Boody
- 27:25Speaker 2: is repping a lot with Tommy DeVito because he just
- 27:28Speaker 2: got to get in at some point. And I'll you
- 27:30Speaker 2: can't give all those reps to him with Drake May
- 27:33Speaker 2: because Drake May is working with Dobbs and aj Brown.
- 27:35Speaker 2: You could feel it already in my opinion that there's
- 27:39Speaker 2: just a lot of guys that need to get reps
- 27:41Speaker 2: and a lot of guys that need to be out
- 27:42Speaker 2: there at the same time. Like I said at the
- 27:45Speaker 2: top of this, Kaishan Boody makes it made a great
- 27:48Speaker 2: play yesterday and it shows you that he's a pretty
- 27:50Speaker 2: talented and pretty good receiver. Where are you at right
- 27:54Speaker 2: now with Booty, who I thought was a little bit
- 27:57Speaker 2: more wishy washy maybe than Christian Zale, Like, you know,
- 28:01Speaker 2: I hope it's here, but if it's not here, then
- 28:02Speaker 2: it's not here. You know that sort of answer. But
- 28:05Speaker 2: where are you at right now with Kishan Boo?
- 28:06Speaker 1: Let me look, I think he'd like to stay here?
- 28:10Speaker 1: Who wants to move right moving hand of us? Does
- 28:15Speaker 1: he want to stay here in a reduced role? Does
- 28:17Speaker 1: he want to stay here without a guarantee of a contract,
- 28:20Speaker 1: all those things right, and then that changes the element
- 28:23Speaker 1: of it. It's a crowded room. It's just a crowded room,
- 28:26Speaker 1: and it's tough to see how he fits in now.
- 28:27Speaker 1: I don't think they have to rush to get him
- 28:29Speaker 1: out the door, and maybe you wait and see if
- 28:30Speaker 1: a team gets desperate in camp, but somebody there there
- 28:34Speaker 1: they to your point, you just kind of highlighted it.
- 28:37Speaker 1: How do you justify carrying all these players Ajan Brown, maccollins,
- 28:42Speaker 1: Romeo Dobs, Kishan, Booty, Kyle Williams, J Mario Douglas, f
- 28:46Speaker 1: and Chisholm. That's seven. Yeah, so even if you dry,
- 28:50Speaker 1: I guess if you drop Chisholm and pop, that's five.
- 28:54Speaker 1: Are they going to do that?
- 28:55Speaker 4: Now?
- 28:55Speaker 1: You're really you don't you lose a lot of speed
- 28:57Speaker 1: in Douglas. You don't have a ton of inside guys,
- 29:00Speaker 1: So what does that look like? It's just hard to
- 29:02Speaker 1: see how all the pieces fit. It just feels like
- 29:04Speaker 1: they've an excess and I think Booty's the most logical
- 29:06Speaker 1: guy to part ways with.
- 29:07Speaker 2: I just yeah, it just feels like they have too
- 29:10Speaker 2: much redundancy in the room. Now, I was talking to.
- 29:12Speaker 2: We talked to the assistant coaches before practice and I
- 29:14Speaker 2: asked Todd Downing about that, and he'd said, I know
- 29:17Speaker 2: that this is kind of a talking point right now
- 29:19Speaker 2: that we have, you know, so many guys in the room.
- 29:21Speaker 2: And he said, you know, to him like he just
- 29:24Speaker 2: wants to get the best five or six football players
- 29:27Speaker 2: and then whether they have the same skill sets or redundancies.
- 29:30Speaker 2: He put that onus on himself and Josh McDaniels to
- 29:33Speaker 2: figure that out once they get to that point of
- 29:36Speaker 2: how to use all these guys. I'm coming around a
- 29:38Speaker 2: little bit to the Booty Brown Dobbs trio because it
- 29:42Speaker 2: allows aj Brown to maybe play a little bit more
- 29:45Speaker 2: as a chess piece and move around the formation a
- 29:47Speaker 2: little bit more, which I think at this stage of
- 29:49Speaker 2: his career might be good for him to play more
- 29:51Speaker 2: on the inside and a shorter like, kind of higher
- 29:54Speaker 2: volume role in that sense. But I still feel like
- 29:59Speaker 2: your body types are really similar. I still feel like
- 30:02Speaker 2: you don't have a ton of speed on the field
- 30:04Speaker 2: when you put that group on there, which I think
- 30:06Speaker 2: might be the biggest concern that I have with it
- 30:09Speaker 2: is that you know, Bob Douglas, Kyle Williams. Even if
- 30:13Speaker 2: those guys aren't as good as Kisehan, Booty is necessarily
- 30:17Speaker 2: just in like a raw Madden's score type of way, right.
- 30:21Speaker 2: They bring a speed and like an explosiveness and a
- 30:23Speaker 2: dynamic play speed element to the table that he doesn't.
- 30:27Speaker 2: With that compliments Brown and Dobbs a little bit more.
- 30:29Speaker 2: But seeing it yesterday, I didn't. I didn't hate it,
- 30:32Speaker 2: especially what it allowed them to do with aj Brown.
- 30:34Speaker 2: So I think is probably best at this point of
- 30:37Speaker 2: his career being a little bit more of a of
- 30:41Speaker 2: a movable chess piece than he is a guy that
- 30:44Speaker 2: strictly just glued to the boundary and maybe doing some
- 30:46Speaker 2: of that big slot stuff where you just let him go,
- 30:49Speaker 2: you know, take onlinebackers, safeties, nickel corners and use his
- 30:53Speaker 2: size and uses his ability. If they broke camp and
- 30:56Speaker 2: that was their top three guys, you know, how do
- 30:59Speaker 2: you feel that? Do you think it works?
- 31:01Speaker 1: Who's the third guy?
- 31:02Speaker 2: Booty Brown, Dobbs, Yeah.
- 31:05Speaker 1: But you know you want to get Mac Collins more involved,
- 31:08Speaker 1: and you're lacking some speed there. I guess it could work.
- 31:11Speaker 1: So you're with me.
- 31:12Speaker 2: You don't love it, doesn't doesn't sound like I.
- 31:14Speaker 1: Like the question is how much if you're gonna keep Booty,
- 31:18Speaker 1: how much is he willing to take on a reduced role.
- 31:21Speaker 1: That can certainly be a grouping, But I think you
- 31:24Speaker 1: also have to get Mac Hollins involved. May likes throwing
- 31:26Speaker 1: to him, he's big hee albs in the run game.
- 31:27Speaker 1: I think you have to get at least one of
- 31:29Speaker 1: Pop Douglas, Kayia Williams involved because you need some sort
- 31:31Speaker 1: of true speed element.
- 31:33Speaker 5: Yep.
- 31:34Speaker 1: So if it's and then who I'm missing somebody else
- 31:37Speaker 1: in there too. I think Brown Dobbs, Brown Dobbs on
- 31:41Speaker 1: me too. So yeah, Hollins, Hollan Boody and then either
- 31:44Speaker 1: Williams or Douglas like or both on you know.
- 31:46Speaker 2: So those guys are probably gonna make the scene.
- 31:48Speaker 1: So that's how much. That's how much you're an eleven?
- 31:50Speaker 1: What percentage of the time do we think they're gonna
- 31:52Speaker 1: be an eleven?
- 31:53Speaker 2: Sixty five?
- 31:54Speaker 1: Okay? So what's a third of sixty percent?
- 31:59Speaker 2: Thirty three thirty right? No, yeah, sixty six percent would
- 32:03Speaker 2: be two a third of sixty percent, okay, so a
- 32:06Speaker 2: little bit less than.
- 32:07Speaker 1: That, okay, So is whatever is KISHUANBOODI gonna be okay
- 32:10Speaker 1: with that many snaps.
- 32:12Speaker 2: Yeah, and that many snaps while also playing in a
- 32:16Speaker 2: contract year, Like if he was getting that many snaps.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Yeah, if he was already paid, that's the different.
- 32:21Speaker 2: And by the way, his second year in the NFL.
- 32:23Speaker 1: Or Reference, he played sixty seven percent of the snaps
- 32:26Speaker 1: and games he was in last year seventy nine percent
- 32:28Speaker 1: the year before that. So you were talking about a significant,
- 32:32Speaker 1: significant decrease in role.
- 32:33Speaker 2: I believe it was Maccollins, Booty Digs were the top
- 32:37Speaker 2: three wide receiver in terms of snaps. It might have
- 32:39Speaker 2: been fourth Diggs was only around fifty fifty five percent. Yeah,
- 32:44Speaker 2: I can find that, hang on, So I think it
- 32:45Speaker 2: was those three guys.
- 32:48Speaker 6: It was.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Well, so Booty's number comes down for the overall because
- 32:51Speaker 1: remember he missed a couple of games. Yeah, he was
- 32:54Speaker 1: still hang on, I gotta sort this by uh, his
- 33:00Speaker 1: number comes down because he missed games, So this is
- 33:02Speaker 1: a little different. It was Matt Collins versus sixty percent
- 33:05Speaker 1: than Booty of fifty five, Digs at fifty four, than
- 33:08Speaker 1: Kyle Williams at thirty.
- 33:09Speaker 2: That's why I thought it was Okay, So I think
- 33:11Speaker 2: that this all comes back to with Kaishan Boody because
- 33:13Speaker 2: I know I get on for saying that you can't swear.
- 33:18Speaker 2: Don't swear, get crapped on, and I can't say that word. Okay,
- 33:23Speaker 2: I get crapped on. We can edit that one out
- 33:27Speaker 2: to bleep it out, all right.
- 33:28Speaker 1: For the record, I don't like it, sure, I don't.
- 33:32Speaker 1: I think censorship's kind of done. But you keep getting
- 33:34Speaker 1: in trouble for swearing, so I have to make sure
- 33:36Speaker 1: you don't know.
- 33:36Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true. I keep getting crapped on for crapping
- 33:42Speaker 2: on Booty for saying, you know, because people think I
- 33:44Speaker 2: don't like him as a player. I don't like the
- 33:47Speaker 2: situation for him because he's a fourth year player that's
- 33:51Speaker 2: in the final year of his rookie contract, that needs
- 33:54Speaker 2: to make headway to get a second contract in the NFL.
- 33:58Speaker 2: And you are telling a player that has made all
- 34:01Speaker 2: the positive strides and done all the right things over
- 34:03Speaker 2: the course of his first three seasons to carve out
- 34:07Speaker 2: a role and you know, make himself a valuable piece
- 34:10Speaker 2: in the offense and show what he can do on
- 34:12Speaker 2: the NFL level. And now you're going to take that
- 34:15Speaker 2: player's role. You're going to cut it in half. When
- 34:18Speaker 2: he's trying to get paid. It just doesn't feel honestly,
- 34:21Speaker 2: it doesn't feel fair to Kaishon Boody, Like.
- 34:23Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not a great situation for him.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Right, So if I was kaish On Booty, I could
- 34:26Speaker 2: totally understand if his his camp and his side of
- 34:30Speaker 2: things was like, well, I need to go someplace else
- 34:32Speaker 2: with more opportunity because they just keep on bringing in
- 34:34Speaker 2: guys that are pushing me down. I would totally understand that.
- 34:37Speaker 2: I also understand what he kind of said yesterday about hey,
- 34:41Speaker 2: like I'm just going to compete, like I give they
- 34:43Speaker 2: give me the chance, I'm going to beat these guys out.
- 34:45Speaker 2: And good for him for being competitive like that. But
- 34:47Speaker 2: it's not that I think that Kijon Booty is a scrub.
- 34:50Speaker 2: I just think that Kishon Boody is going to want
- 34:52Speaker 2: to get more opportunities and the Patriots can present him.
- 34:55Speaker 2: And if he's the backup X to AJ Brown and
- 34:58Speaker 2: he's playing thirty percent, what do you say Kyle Williams
- 35:01Speaker 2: played thirty percent of the snaps last year? Yeah, that
- 35:04Speaker 2: was the backup X, right, and he was playing thirty
- 35:07Speaker 2: point seven percent of the snaps. If that's the role,
- 35:10Speaker 2: that Kaishan Boody has and how why is that good
- 35:13Speaker 2: for Kaishan Boody? Like that does nothing for him? So
- 35:16Speaker 2: I would just worry about the dynamic more so than
- 35:18Speaker 2: I'm worried about you know, is he a bad player
- 35:20Speaker 2: or not. So we'll see what happens, uh, you know
- 35:23Speaker 2: with Kisehan Booty. But he was here, he's participating fully. Uh,
- 35:27Speaker 2: there's no extracurriculars going on with that one. Next item
- 35:31Speaker 2: on my list, let's go, since we're on the receivers,
- 35:35Speaker 2: let's let's jump to, uh, just our initial oppressions so
- 35:39Speaker 2: far we've seen let's call it two and a half
- 35:42Speaker 2: because today's practice was was not really a full practice.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Two and a half practices now of AJ Brown, what
- 35:49Speaker 2: have been your initial impressions. I think that my initial
- 35:52Speaker 2: impressions of AJ Brown are just as advertised. Like, he
- 35:55Speaker 2: looks like a Alpha number one wider receiver.
- 36:00Speaker 1: He looks.
- 36:01Speaker 2: I don't think that I'm not you know, thinking this
- 36:05Speaker 2: is oh seven reducks yet. But I'm also not you know,
- 36:09Speaker 2: thinking that he's lost a step either. You know, the
- 36:11Speaker 2: catch that he made yesterday was was impressive, you know,
- 36:14Speaker 2: a fifty to fifty ball in the back shoulder against
- 36:16Speaker 2: Vildor that he just won at the catch point and
- 36:19Speaker 2: kind of just you know, flex Tom did one of
- 36:21Speaker 2: those dominant AJ Brown reps. I really just like I
- 36:25Speaker 2: think the biggest thing though, is like when he's rolling
- 36:28Speaker 2: at you, if you're playing off coverage against him as
- 36:30Speaker 2: a corner and he's rolling at you off the line
- 36:33Speaker 2: of scrimmage, he has really great body control to just
- 36:36Speaker 2: like break down and cut in on the slant that
- 36:40Speaker 2: it's like almost unstoppable to cover that route if you
- 36:43Speaker 2: give him like seven or eight yards a cushion and
- 36:45Speaker 2: he gets you into the pedal because you have to
- 36:47Speaker 2: respect the vertical route and he snaps off a slant
- 36:50Speaker 2: or diggering out I hitch even I don't know how
- 36:54Speaker 2: you cover that because he's so sudden and he's so
- 36:57Speaker 2: you know, balanced, that he's able to just come in
- 36:59Speaker 2: and out of the break so quickly and without giving
- 37:02Speaker 2: any sort of tells to the defender of what he's
- 37:05Speaker 2: going to do. That pops off. Even routes on air,
- 37:09Speaker 2: you can sort of see that body control and the
- 37:11Speaker 2: suddenness that he has at the top of the route.
- 37:13Speaker 2: Really excited about what I've seen with him, so far,
- 37:16Speaker 2: it's been a lot outside receiver, which you can expect
- 37:19Speaker 2: this early on, a lot of back shoulders, hitches, slants
- 37:23Speaker 2: like working that outside vertical tree. But I really expect
- 37:26Speaker 2: that by the time let's call it well was to
- 37:29Speaker 2: say Eagles joint practice, because I'm sure he'll be geared
- 37:32Speaker 2: up for that one by the time the Eagles are
- 37:34Speaker 2: in town for those joint practices. I kind of expect
- 37:36Speaker 2: another layer of the playbook to be open to aj
- 37:40Speaker 2: Brown to move around the formation a little bit more
- 37:42Speaker 2: and do some of that big slot stuff I was
- 37:44Speaker 2: talking about. But my initial impression has just been looks
- 37:47Speaker 2: like AJ Brown looks like a stud wide receiver, and
- 37:51Speaker 2: it's been cool to see Drake May throw him the ball.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Oh yeah. And I think that's a big thing for
- 37:56Speaker 1: me and Mike ra able to ask about this today
- 37:58Speaker 1: and talked about today. Is just the chemistry between him
- 38:00Speaker 1: and May and a lot of those routes you're talking
- 38:03Speaker 1: about our timing routes, they're chemistry routes. They got to
- 38:05Speaker 1: be on the same page. And looks like they're making
- 38:07Speaker 1: progress in that regard, which is good. He's clearly picked
- 38:10Speaker 1: up a ton of the playbook went from and I
- 38:12Speaker 1: doesn't expect him to be super involved. When we saw
- 38:14Speaker 1: him last week in that first practice, he had just
- 38:17Speaker 1: guided me he'd been a patriot.
- 38:18Speaker 2: Probably twenty four hours.
- 38:20Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, there would come out here this week, and
- 38:22Speaker 1: he looks like the number one wide receiver in terms
- 38:24Speaker 1: of his usage. So I'm just the chemistry and some
- 38:27Speaker 1: of the timing stuff between him and Drake May I
- 38:28Speaker 1: think is going to be a big story to watch
- 38:31Speaker 1: all summer.
- 38:32Speaker 2: Yep. So I have a few more things still on
- 38:34Speaker 2: the list, but since we're on the topic of wide receivers,
- 38:37Speaker 2: I just want to throw it in there. Mike Rabel
- 38:40Speaker 2: was asked about potentially Stefan Digg's coming back.
- 38:44Speaker 1: Yep.
- 38:44Speaker 2: He said that he didn't shut it down, but he
- 38:47Speaker 2: also said that it's not something that they're really looking
- 38:51Speaker 2: into right now. So he said, at the moment, you know,
- 38:54Speaker 2: not not really thinking that's a direction they're going in.
- 38:57Speaker 6: Here.
- 38:57Speaker 2: Here's their direct quote. I don't think that's what that's
- 39:00Speaker 2: something that we're exploring. But I would never say no,
- 39:04Speaker 2: so I would say they're leaving the door cracked. But
- 39:06Speaker 2: my guess is is that door is cracked in case
- 39:09Speaker 2: unfortunately somebody gets hurt tomorrow and they they have to
- 39:13Speaker 2: completely change plans and change course. But I would say
- 39:16Speaker 2: for the most part, as long as they get through
- 39:17Speaker 2: camp and everything healthy in the preseason. It doesn't sound
- 39:21Speaker 2: at least based off of those comments, that a reunion
- 39:24Speaker 2: with Stefan Diggs is imminent or in the works at all,
- 39:28Speaker 2: but maybe something that they're keeping on the back burner
- 39:31Speaker 2: just in case at this point.
- 39:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, don't close the door unless you have to, basically.
- 39:35Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, So speaking of additions to the roster, moving
- 39:39Speaker 2: down here on the offense side, and we'll do defense.
- 39:44Speaker 2: He did hint Mike Rabel at a tight end edition,
- 39:47Speaker 2: I mean pretty much said that they will be adding
- 39:50Speaker 2: a tight end now. That could mean anything from adding
- 39:53Speaker 2: a body to adding comet like he did say variety.
- 39:57Speaker 1: In that answer. He mentioned the numbers for training camp,
- 40:00Speaker 1: which leads me to believe this is probably gonna be
- 40:02Speaker 1: some UDFA, some camp body. I will say, though, I
- 40:07Speaker 1: do have a name for you, and this guy might
- 40:09Speaker 1: not sign to later, so they might have to add
- 40:10Speaker 1: a camp body and then add this guy. And I
- 40:13Speaker 1: said this first, and I was kidding, And then the
- 40:15Speaker 1: more I thought about it, I was like, Eh, maybe
- 40:18Speaker 1: I'm not kidding. How would you feel, Evan, Yes, it's
- 40:22Speaker 1: Patriots sig Mercedes Lewis, he's not officially retired.
- 40:27Speaker 2: I mean, I'm okay with it. Like I'm not gonna
- 40:31Speaker 2: sit here and say that's the worst idea ever.
- 40:33Speaker 1: But Turn fourteen may if you're just trying to one
- 40:40Speaker 1: for one fill the role that we thought Julian Hill
- 40:42Speaker 1: would fill, which is like ninety percent blocking, Yeah, and
- 40:46Speaker 1: maybe even create something where it's more of a rotation
- 40:49Speaker 1: with Eli Reriden rather than Eli Ridin being a true
- 40:53Speaker 1: third tight end. Mercedes Lewis.
- 40:56Speaker 2: Well, I would just say that I if the idea
- 40:59Speaker 2: would Julie Hill was what I think it was gonna be.
- 41:01Speaker 2: Like Julian Hill is a much more athletic player, like
- 41:04Speaker 2: Marcedes Lewis is a sixth offensive lineman, right, Like that's
- 41:08Speaker 2: the mold that you're going after, Like late career Dwayne Allen,
- 41:11Speaker 2: Like he's a true extra big body kind of like
- 41:16Speaker 2: what I'm hoping that Tanner Arkin might develop into eventually.
- 41:20Speaker 2: Julian Hill. I thought it was a much more athletic,
- 41:22Speaker 2: much more versatile blocker, somebody that could get up in space,
- 41:26Speaker 2: get out to the second level, you know, do different
- 41:29Speaker 2: things like that that were a little bit more flexible,
- 41:31Speaker 2: you know, come across the formation and crack guys like
- 41:36Speaker 2: stuff like that. Marcedes Lewis is he's he's standing in
- 41:40Speaker 2: there in line and he's digging out the defensive end,
- 41:42Speaker 2: right like that. That's gonna be his thing now. If
- 41:45Speaker 2: they feel like they need that, then you know he's
- 41:46Speaker 2: a guy that can do it. We've talked a little
- 41:48Speaker 2: bit about some of these guys, right like Ferksker and.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Yeahs sign Okay. I think this is one where I
- 41:54Speaker 1: go back to what Vraebel said today. I think today
- 41:59Speaker 1: before people get all excited, I saw his people tweeting
- 42:02Speaker 1: on Kyle Pitts. No, that's not I think what I
- 42:05Speaker 1: inferred from what he said today was camp body. They
- 42:08Speaker 1: need to get somebody else in here to run the drills,
- 42:10Speaker 1: take snaps in the preseason. What I would like to
- 42:12Speaker 1: see them do. Look, Tanner Arkin is intriguing. CJ. Dupree
- 42:16Speaker 1: is intriguing. I think what you do is you let
- 42:20Speaker 1: those two guys prove that they can win the spot
- 42:23Speaker 1: to start, and if you get to like the first
- 42:25Speaker 1: preseason game and you're not seeing the growth you want
- 42:28Speaker 1: from either of them, then you go out and Okay,
- 42:30Speaker 1: maybe Mercedes Lewis has been extreme, but a guy like
- 42:32Speaker 1: a John Fitzpatrick, Will Disley's out there.
- 42:36Speaker 2: John Smith the callan Castles. I'd probably rather go Disley
- 42:42Speaker 2: rout if he's healthy. I know, fell with some injuries.
- 42:45Speaker 1: But anyway, like I think this is probably that third
- 42:48Speaker 1: I think they bring in a body for camp, they
- 42:49Speaker 1: bring in some UDFA and then you get Dupre and
- 42:53Speaker 1: arc In battling for that third spot. If neither one
- 42:55Speaker 1: of them pops, then they go look on the veteran market.
- 42:58Speaker 1: Because some of these guys too. Again, a guy like
- 43:00Speaker 1: Marcedes Lewis, maybe even a guy like John Us Smith
- 43:03Speaker 1: who's a little bit older, they might not be in
- 43:06Speaker 1: a rush to sign. Yeah, right, do they want to come,
- 43:08Speaker 1: especially Lewis because Louis gonna come do the first few
- 43:10Speaker 1: days of training camp.
- 43:11Speaker 2: I don't need to do that. I don't mean I
- 43:12Speaker 2: don't need him to do it either, right, you call.
- 43:15Speaker 1: Him mid August? Yeah, So so that that's where I'm
- 43:18Speaker 1: at with it.
- 43:18Speaker 2: Okay, so let me ask you this though about it,
- 43:20Speaker 2: because you you immediately jumped and I'm not saying you're wrong,
- 43:24Speaker 2: but you immediately jumped to the Arkins and the Depres
- 43:26Speaker 2: of the world. Are we not at all small seat
- 43:29Speaker 2: concerned that Rawdan's not ready to be the backup tight end? Well,
- 43:33Speaker 2: because I am a little bit just because of the
- 43:35Speaker 2: nature of the position. Maybe it's a it's a lot
- 43:37Speaker 2: to ask for a rookie, especially a guy that's a
- 43:40Speaker 2: third round pick. We're not talking about somebody they drafted
- 43:42Speaker 2: in the top twenty, like a Tyler Warren, Colson Lovelin.
- 43:45Speaker 2: We're talking about a player that had some development to do. Anyway,
- 43:49Speaker 2: It's like that was sort of the conversation around him
- 43:52Speaker 2: with Raredan coming out of the draft is that this
- 43:55Speaker 2: is more of a developmental player. This is more of
- 43:57Speaker 2: a project player at that position. It's not just if
- 44:01Speaker 2: Hunter Henry gets hurt. It's also where they or not
- 44:04Speaker 2: you if two tight ends and twelve personnel is available
- 44:07Speaker 2: to you too, like and maybe with Gilliam, that sort
- 44:10Speaker 2: of lessens that blow a little bit. But if you
- 44:14Speaker 2: want to run two tight end packages and you want
- 44:16Speaker 2: to run some twelve personnel, then Rareden's gonna have a
- 44:19Speaker 2: role like Austin Hooper had last year. Anyways, even not
- 44:23Speaker 2: even counting the injury insurance that he is to Hunter Henry.
- 44:27Speaker 2: So are you ready to put the rookie in the
- 44:29Speaker 2: spot where he could play a significant role out of
- 44:32Speaker 2: the shoot and is he ready for that?
- 44:33Speaker 1: I need to see more for him. I don't doubt
- 44:35Speaker 1: he can handle like a secondary pass catching role. That's
- 44:38Speaker 1: the thing for me, is more about the blocking right
- 44:40Speaker 1: you're losing is to what you said earlier, the idea
- 44:42Speaker 1: that Julian Hill can maybe do both. Yeah, and so
- 44:45Speaker 1: if between Arkin or whether it's Arkin or dupri right
- 44:52Speaker 1: between that guy and Raredan, you have like the full
- 44:57Speaker 1: complete tight end, right, So it's just complete. It's it's
- 45:01Speaker 1: that blocking part that I'm I have more faith. I
- 45:05Speaker 1: think in reared in to be the receiver.
- 45:07Speaker 2: Right, like, I have no doubt that.
- 45:09Speaker 1: But if you want, if you want him to play
- 45:10Speaker 1: like sixty percent of snaps, though, you need somebody else.
- 45:12Speaker 1: I don't know if he can be the blocker for that.
- 45:14Speaker 2: So last year just to and I haven't thought I'm
- 45:16Speaker 2: rerid him. But last year Austin Hooper as the second
- 45:19Speaker 2: tight end without an injury to Henry, played forty nine
- 45:23Speaker 2: almost forty nine point nine, so basically fifty percent of
- 45:25Speaker 2: the snaps last year as the second tight end. Now
- 45:28Speaker 2: they might not have used the full back as much
- 45:30Speaker 2: as they're going to use it this year because of
- 45:33Speaker 2: you know, west Over, you know, the upgrade from Westover
- 45:36Speaker 2: to Gilliam. But that second tight end role in the
- 45:40Speaker 2: NFL nowadays is still a at least want to call
- 45:42Speaker 2: it a rotational or a part time player. And I
- 45:45Speaker 2: just wonder where they're at with Rearden and his ability
- 45:49Speaker 2: to do that, and if that's putting a little bit
- 45:51Speaker 2: too much pressure in just too much you know, eggs
- 45:54Speaker 2: in that basket to extract the third round pick to
- 45:56Speaker 2: be able to do that right out of the shoot,
- 45:58Speaker 2: especially with the way that you know, you I think
- 46:00Speaker 2: laid it out well about his blocking ability, Like, I
- 46:03Speaker 2: think that's what's going to be the thing, the bigger
- 46:04Speaker 2: question that it is a little bit slower. They want
- 46:07Speaker 2: to put Raredan on the field on third and eight
- 46:09Speaker 2: because he's the like a dynamic receiver. I bet he
- 46:12Speaker 2: probably will be you know, I think he'll probably be
- 46:14Speaker 2: good enough at that right out of the shoot. But
- 46:17Speaker 2: when it's first and ten and you feel like that week,
- 46:20Speaker 2: the best thing for you to do is to go
- 46:21Speaker 2: twelve personnel and put both tight ends on the field,
- 46:24Speaker 2: and it's first and ten from the twenty five in
- 46:25Speaker 2: your based offense, Like, can you put Eli reard In
- 46:28Speaker 2: and Hunter Henry together? Hunter Henry's a fine blocker, is
- 46:32Speaker 2: a passable blocker. He's not a very good blocker himself,
- 46:35Speaker 2: Like he's not a Rob Gronkowski either blocker. No, I
- 46:39Speaker 2: would actually say sometimes he's a minus blocker, but he's
- 46:42Speaker 2: at least passable at that position rared, and I don't
- 46:46Speaker 2: know if he's even gonna be passable. So you you
- 46:48Speaker 2: really don't have two guys that can really be inline
- 46:51Speaker 2: blockers at a high level with either of those guys,
- 46:54Speaker 2: which is why Julian Hill was signed. So I just
- 46:57Speaker 2: wonder if, even though I agree that Rabel's answer was
- 47:00Speaker 2: more geared today towards depth at that position versus adding
- 47:04Speaker 2: another guy into the mix, I wonder if they are
- 47:07Speaker 2: at the point eventually where they have to think about
- 47:10Speaker 2: we really designed this for Reridan to be the third
- 47:14Speaker 2: tight end and have a passing game role and kind
- 47:17Speaker 2: of get his feet wet in the NFL as a
- 47:19Speaker 2: rookie as he continues to develop his body and develop
- 47:21Speaker 2: as a blocker and This is going to just be
- 47:23Speaker 2: asking too much of them if we have to put
- 47:26Speaker 2: him in there at that much. We have also seen
- 47:28Speaker 2: a lot of Jack Westover at tight end, and I
- 47:31Speaker 2: think that that might be a seniority he knows what
- 47:33Speaker 2: he's doing kind of thing more than it is a
- 47:35Speaker 2: talent kind of thing. But what do you make of
- 47:38Speaker 2: that with Westover? Because I put it in the in
- 47:40Speaker 2: the bucket of sometimes this time of year, the guy
- 47:42Speaker 2: that's been on the team, that's been around longer is
- 47:45Speaker 2: going to get the reps over a DePree, over an
- 47:48Speaker 2: ARC game, over a player like that. But or do
- 47:50Speaker 2: you think that Westover is in the mix?
- 47:54Speaker 1: Maybe Again, if you're looking for the blocker, I don't
- 47:56Speaker 1: know that he's as much of a blocker, So it
- 47:58Speaker 1: makes it a little tougher. I think styling argating to
- 48:00Speaker 1: pre or probably more what you're looking for.
- 48:02Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, So that was tight end. Last thing
- 48:05Speaker 2: on the offensive side, just wanted to talk a little
- 48:08Speaker 2: bit about Kleb Blomo and his usage. Obviously being the
- 48:11Speaker 2: first round pick, we've seen the offensive line that we've
- 48:14Speaker 2: most commonly seen with Drake May from left to right,
- 48:17Speaker 2: Campbell Vera, Tucker Wilson, on WHENU and then not right
- 48:22Speaker 2: tackle because Morgan Moses hasn't been here these last couple
- 48:26Speaker 2: of days. It's been Caleb Blowho. Now we know he's
- 48:28Speaker 2: keeping the seat warm for Morgan Moses for the time being.
- 48:32Speaker 2: But I actually think, you know two things. One, I
- 48:35Speaker 2: think it's a good thing that Caleb Bloman was getting
- 48:37Speaker 2: this work because Morgan Moses at thirty five years old,
- 48:40Speaker 2: certainly doesn't need the reps in the spring. So give
- 48:43Speaker 2: him to Kleb Blomo to develop, but to mostly right tackle,
- 48:48Speaker 2: but maybe a couple of pitches on the left side too,
- 48:52Speaker 2: not in place of Campbell necessarily, Yeah, rotating in on
- 48:56Speaker 2: both sides, which cross training you would expect if he's
- 48:59Speaker 2: going to be the top swing tackle. Not a whole
- 49:02Speaker 2: lot to glean in terms of what's actually happened from
- 49:05Speaker 2: this time of year in the trenches, you know who's
- 49:08Speaker 2: playing well, I don't know, you know is they're not
- 49:11Speaker 2: hitting anybody. But what do you make of just the
- 49:14Speaker 2: way that they started to use Lomu so far.
- 49:16Speaker 1: Cross training them. That's what they told us. They're cross training,
- 49:19Speaker 1: they're getting him ready, but it seems like they're primarily
- 49:21Speaker 1: getting him ready for the right side, and look, well,
- 49:23Speaker 1: Morgan Moses out, it's gonna be a chance for him
- 49:25Speaker 1: to get a ton of reps on that right side
- 49:27Speaker 1: and really get ready. And I don't know, I don't
- 49:29Speaker 1: remember where you stand on this. I'm sure we talked
- 49:30Speaker 1: about after the draft. If you believe he can catch
- 49:35Speaker 1: Moses by the start of the season and win that
- 49:38Speaker 1: job for week one, I think they'd probably like to
- 49:41Speaker 1: wait if they can. But I'm gonna have some time
- 49:45Speaker 1: here to really work on his craft and set himself
- 49:48Speaker 1: up well for camp I.
- 49:50Speaker 2: Don't think that there's much of a chance of that
- 49:52Speaker 2: for two reasons. I think Morgan Moses is leadership in
- 49:56Speaker 2: that room is really, really highly regarded. Now, you don't
- 49:59Speaker 2: give the guy the job as a lesser talented player
- 50:02Speaker 2: because he's captain material. That's not usually how it works.
- 50:06Speaker 2: But it's a younger room. You know, Jared Wilson and
- 50:09Speaker 2: Will Campbell are in their second year, Lomu's a rookie.
- 50:13Speaker 2: It's a little bit of a younger room. And Morgan Moses,
- 50:17Speaker 2: he's unk like he is, you know, he's really the
- 50:19Speaker 2: leader in that room. And I was talking to Doug
- 50:22Speaker 2: Moron and he was telling me just how much like
- 50:26Speaker 2: Morgan Moses is such a wealth of knowledge, and like
- 50:30Speaker 2: they just praising him up and down about how willing
- 50:33Speaker 2: he is to share with younger players on the team.
- 50:36Speaker 2: Not a lot of veteran guys, not all veteran guys,
- 50:39Speaker 2: that should say, are willing to give their secrets out
- 50:41Speaker 2: to the younger players because they know those guys are
- 50:43Speaker 2: coming for their job. Like if you're Morgan Moses and
- 50:46Speaker 2: you see Caleb Blomo, there's a lot of veteran players
- 50:49Speaker 2: that would like out a spite, not want to give
- 50:52Speaker 2: Caleb Blomo any tips because he's gonna take his job.
- 50:56Speaker 2: But Morgan Moses is not that kind of guy. I
- 50:58Speaker 2: think he's played last year is probably the most consistent
- 51:01Speaker 2: baby besides on Winu on that offensive line. He was
- 51:04Speaker 2: pretty much the only guy in the Super Bowl that
- 51:06Speaker 2: didn't get pansed by the Seahawks in that game. I
- 51:09Speaker 2: thought that he was. He was really solid all throughout
- 51:12Speaker 2: the year last year, and with his veteran leadership, captain
- 51:15Speaker 2: material kind of guy, I don't expect Lomu to catch him.
- 51:18Speaker 2: I also think that Lomo needs to develop his body
- 51:21Speaker 2: a little bit, you know, that was one thing even
- 51:23Speaker 2: standing next to Campbell. That you see with him is that,
- 51:26Speaker 2: you know, we got to hit the protein shakes and
- 51:28Speaker 2: hit the weight room a little bit more that a
- 51:31Speaker 2: year behind Moses, or at least half a season behind
- 51:34Speaker 2: Moses while he continues to eat that skinless chicken, as
- 51:37Speaker 2: Paul Pirillo would like to say, is probably for the
- 51:40Speaker 2: best with him. But is there a world where Lomu
- 51:44Speaker 2: is involved. Absolutely, Maybe it's a sixth offensive lineman where
- 51:48Speaker 2: they get his feet wet. Maybe you know, obviously he's
- 51:50Speaker 2: going to be a top backup and all that kind
- 51:52Speaker 2: of stuff. But it was interesting to see, and again
- 51:57Speaker 2: I'm not ready to evaluate what they looked like, but
- 52:00Speaker 2: we did see a lot this week of Campbell Vera.
- 52:04Speaker 2: Tucker Wilson on when Wu Lomu, yep, I don't know
- 52:08Speaker 2: about on like he might not be here long term.
- 52:10Speaker 2: He readjusted his contract to stay here this year.
- 52:13Speaker 1: But in theory, that's four or five. It's four or five, right, Yeah,
- 52:16Speaker 1: you can find guard. I'm not so worried about them
- 52:19Speaker 1: finding the starting right guard.
- 52:20Speaker 2: So we saw the future a little bit of what's
- 52:22Speaker 2: going to be in front of Drake may at least
- 52:24Speaker 2: for the long term future. You know, and I think
- 52:28Speaker 2: they're well set up there, that that line has come
- 52:31Speaker 2: a really really long way from what we saw here,
- 52:35Speaker 2: you know, twenty three, twenty four of those seasons. All right,
- 52:38Speaker 2: let's let's talk a little bit of defense, and then
- 52:40Speaker 2: I do have a special teams question for you, which
- 52:43Speaker 2: I know you appreciate it. RB three, Like we're not ready.
- 52:47Speaker 2: I don't know, like running backs this time of year.
- 52:50Speaker 1: Len Larris is getting a lot of looks.
- 52:52Speaker 2: So we're still on land Laris and island with me. Okay,
- 52:55Speaker 2: I wish he was a little bit more explosive, like
- 52:57Speaker 2: when you see they throw screens to him and stuff
- 53:00Speaker 2: out of the backfield. I wish there was a little
- 53:01Speaker 2: bit more giddy up to pull.
- 53:02Speaker 1: Maybe once the speed goes up, he'll he'll show that one.
- 53:05Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, I like that that confidence there. I think
- 53:10Speaker 2: it was Sean McVay who said recently that you can't
- 53:12Speaker 2: really evaluate running backs this time of year. You know,
- 53:15Speaker 2: it's really hard to even evaluate running backs in training camp,
- 53:19Speaker 2: like that's a preseason type of thing, in a regular
- 53:21Speaker 2: season type of thing because of the tackling to the ground.
- 53:24Speaker 2: So moving over to the defense, the two spots on
- 53:27Speaker 2: the defense that I feel myself gravitating towards other than edge.
- 53:32Speaker 2: Looking at the depth inside linebacker behind Splain and Christian
- 53:36Speaker 2: Ellis in corner, I think safety. Even though I know
- 53:40Speaker 2: that Mike Brown is not a household name yet and
- 53:41Speaker 2: I'm not saying he's gonna be ed Read or anything
- 53:44Speaker 2: like that. But between Mike Brown and Del Pettis, like,
- 53:46Speaker 2: I'm starting to okay, it's fine depth. It's better depth
- 53:50Speaker 2: than I think they have it inside.
- 53:53Speaker 1: I would agree with that. Can Mike Brown be Jalen Hawkins.
- 53:55Speaker 2: Right, like, if he's Jalen Hawkins and maybe he's not
- 53:57Speaker 2: a starter like last year Jalen Hawkins played a ton
- 53:59Speaker 2: of snare Like, I don't know if he's gonna be that,
- 54:01Speaker 2: But is he the third safety? Him and Dell Pettis
- 54:04Speaker 2: the third and fourth safeties. It's not they don't have
- 54:08Speaker 2: great depth there, but I'm not as concerned about it
- 54:11Speaker 2: as some of the other places on the roster. Inside
- 54:14Speaker 2: linebacker is a kJ britt Is, a Chad Muma? Does
- 54:18Speaker 2: obeis or make a push at some point? Does Cleil
- 54:21Speaker 2: Jacob's Udfa make a push at some point?
- 54:24Speaker 1: You know?
- 54:24Speaker 2: Those are the guys that are kind of vying for
- 54:26Speaker 2: those spots. But I do come back to it. Maybe
- 54:30Speaker 2: we didn't feel this way about Jack Gibbons until we
- 54:33Speaker 2: got into the season and saw that he could be
- 54:34Speaker 2: serviceable either. But Spoayne as he was last year. Honestly,
- 54:40Speaker 2: Spoayne is just such a key part of this defense.
- 54:43Speaker 2: If they lose Blaine, I don't know what linebacker looks
- 54:47Speaker 2: like behind a guy like Splain, Like, I don't know
- 54:50Speaker 2: if they have another guy that can even, you know,
- 54:53Speaker 2: give you eighty percent of what Robert Splaine brings to
- 54:55Speaker 2: the table. It's a spot where the depth there is
- 54:58Speaker 2: a little bit thin. Maybe it's maybe he's the Jack
- 55:01Speaker 2: Gibbons of this roster, But what have you seen just
- 55:03Speaker 2: in terms of mixing and matching there?
- 55:06Speaker 1: I mean, kJ Britt definitely showed us I think a
- 55:08Speaker 1: little bit no tas after him. Yeah, I'm with you,
- 55:12Speaker 1: not not a ton of stood out. It's tough in
- 55:15Speaker 1: this setting. It's another position where it's tough in this setting.
- 55:19Speaker 1: But yeah, it's it's still like they're they're there. It
- 55:24Speaker 1: feels like a drop off from last year, it does.
- 55:26Speaker 2: It feels like a drop off a little bit in
- 55:28Speaker 2: that corner. And look I I fully admit that when
- 55:31Speaker 2: you get mossed by a J. Brown, that's not anything
- 55:34Speaker 2: hold you know, be uh dropping your head at in
- 55:39Speaker 2: terms of Kendallvilldor Uh. But Kendallvilldor, Kobe Minor, uh that
- 55:44Speaker 2: group Kasehn Prunty Uh, they got picked on a little
- 55:47Speaker 2: bit yesterday. Yesterday I felt like those three guys, you know,
- 55:50Speaker 2: with Al Gonzalez, Carlon Davis is Carlon Davis, him and
- 55:54Speaker 2: Marcus Jones were playing at the normal level that they
- 55:56Speaker 2: always play at. But it seemed like whenever and as
- 55:59Speaker 2: you probably could imagine, whoever Carlon Davis and Marcus Jones
- 56:03Speaker 2: wasn't that was where Dragon was throwing the ball. Whoever
- 56:07Speaker 2: was that rotating corner spot where Gonzales usually is. And
- 56:10Speaker 2: obviously it's not a problem if all three of those
- 56:12Speaker 2: guys are healthy, but corner depth behind Gonzales, Davis, Marcus Jones,
- 56:19Speaker 2: how do we feel about that right now?
- 56:22Speaker 1: That's still lacking a little bit. They seem to really
- 56:24Speaker 1: like Kendallvilldor. I think he's gonna get a.
- 56:26Speaker 2: Shot kind of like the Mike Brown of the corner right.
- 56:29Speaker 1: I still I am still a little intrigued by kron
- 56:31Speaker 1: Prunty and he was getting some run today and I
- 56:33Speaker 1: want to see what he can do.
- 56:34Speaker 2: He's got some good length, Like he's got to get
- 56:36Speaker 2: size to him. You know, there's some things in technique
- 56:39Speaker 2: wise and coverage that he.
- 56:40Speaker 1: He has the uncoachables. Now a guy that's you know,
- 56:42Speaker 1: twenty three, and he doesn't have the same ceiling as
- 56:46Speaker 1: a player that's maybe twenty or twenty one. Right, he's
- 56:47Speaker 1: a couple years older, but good, like you said, good athlete,
- 56:51Speaker 1: good size. They've I noticed different coaching staff. They have
- 56:53Speaker 1: long history here of coaching up corners that have the
- 56:56Speaker 1: natural tools. Yeah, or even some that don't. Frankly, Yeah,
- 56:59Speaker 1: so I'm still a little intrigued by him.
- 57:01Speaker 2: Yeah. You definitely noticed his length, his arm length, and
- 57:05Speaker 2: just sort of his size. He's got a good frame.
- 57:07Speaker 2: If they can develop his technique, his instincts, that type
- 57:10Speaker 2: of stuff, there might be something there. The defensive line
- 57:13Speaker 2: has been pretty consistently the top group, you know in
- 57:17Speaker 2: base bar More Dirden, that the nose and Milton Williams.
- 57:22Speaker 2: I kind of am buying a little bit of Corey
- 57:23Speaker 2: Durden stock. Like I think the Corey Durton thing might
- 57:26Speaker 2: now not based off of practice. We're not really watching
- 57:29Speaker 2: it for that purpose right now, but I kind of
- 57:32Speaker 2: feel like that might be legit.
- 57:33Speaker 7: You know.
- 57:33Speaker 2: I think Corey Durden has been a good player, under
- 57:37Speaker 2: the radar player last year and with the rams, I
- 57:40Speaker 2: feel like he's got a little bit of something something.
- 57:43Speaker 2: I'll buy some Corey Durden stock. The last question I
- 57:47Speaker 2: had for you that I wanted to ask it, and
- 57:50Speaker 2: then we'll open up the show to all the calls
- 57:52Speaker 2: and emails, because we're getting tons of emails and calls.
- 57:54Speaker 2: I see all of them. There is a tryout punter here,
- 57:58Speaker 2: Alex Barth. Yep, we're intrigued by what you saw yesterday
- 58:02Speaker 2: a little bit.
- 58:02Speaker 1: He was kicking the crap out of the ball. You
- 58:04Speaker 1: were you were telling me at good power into it.
- 58:06Speaker 1: I was surprised when I looked at his college numbers
- 58:08Speaker 1: last year. They didn't like reflect what I mean. I
- 58:11Speaker 1: saw him punt like fifteen times. But good foot on
- 58:15Speaker 1: the ball is back here today.
- 58:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 58:16Speaker 1: So they're still looking, and they remember they brought Mitch
- 58:18Speaker 1: McCarthy in a rookie mini camp. They didn' ultimately sign them,
- 58:21Speaker 1: but it does feel like they're looking for some competition.
- 58:23Speaker 1: For Bryce Bearinger, whether McCarthy ends up back here, whether
- 58:27Speaker 1: it's it's Devin Baale, who's the kid that's here now?
- 58:29Speaker 1: Where they go find somebody else? Like, it does seem
- 58:31Speaker 1: like the goal is to have somebody here for training
- 58:34Speaker 1: camp competing with Bryce bearing or does bail show them enough?
- 58:36Speaker 1: I don't know. I think a lot of that in
- 58:38Speaker 1: two team puntrels today. I think some of that's going
- 58:40Speaker 1: to be in the meeting room and things like that,
- 58:42Speaker 1: And we can't even really see where the specialists are
- 58:45Speaker 1: working out now that they're on the low field. Yeah,
- 58:47Speaker 1: it's it's tougher to tell, but it does seem like
- 58:50Speaker 1: they want another punter here for sure. They just have to.
- 58:52Speaker 1: It's just who is it?
- 58:53Speaker 2: Good competition? I thought, you know, I you were tracking
- 58:57Speaker 2: haying times, you were in your element?
- 58:59Speaker 8: You were I was.
- 59:00Speaker 1: He had some boomers. He let me go back, had
- 59:02Speaker 1: a couple over five seconds, right, Yeah, I had him
- 59:04Speaker 1: with a five point one point five and a five
- 59:08Speaker 1: point oh five. I did also have Baringer to five
- 59:10Speaker 1: point one oho, so you can hear the ball off.
- 59:13Speaker 2: His foot you cut?
- 59:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I know that that's true.
- 59:15Speaker 2: I'm not a punter guy. I don't pretend to know
- 59:18Speaker 2: a ton about punting, but there's a certain sound when
- 59:22Speaker 2: you hear a good punter punt the football that pop
- 59:25Speaker 2: off the foot, and I definitely could hear that with
- 59:27Speaker 2: this kid. So maybe there there's a little bit at
- 59:29Speaker 2: least competition. I don't know if there's he's the guy,
- 59:31Speaker 2: but at least there's some competition there. All right, we're
- 59:34Speaker 2: gonna take a quick break hopefully that I think that
- 59:37Speaker 2: that about does it. That was emptying my notebook. That
- 59:39Speaker 2: was yeah, No, I think that pretty much covered right,
- 59:41Speaker 2: And then we'll get to the calls and emails after
- 59:43Speaker 2: the break, and you guys can ask us of your questions. Uh,
- 59:45Speaker 2: we'll be right back.

- 1:03:14Speaker 2: I wanted to own that. I wanted to own that,
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: even though you know that one was like a soft
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: version of the former one. But all of them are bad,
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: and I'm gonna stop doing it, all right, That's my
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: that's my goal. All right, let's get to the phones here.
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: Patty is an aguan. What's up Patty?
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: Guys?
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: How are we doing?
- 1:03:35Speaker 11: No apology is necessary, and it's kind of catch twenty
- 1:03:38Speaker 11: two after hours anyway, because you guys are normally on
- 1:03:41Speaker 11: at twelve, but four.
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: People, that's a good point. It's after nine pm, so
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: you have to expect to hear some things.
- 1:03:50Speaker 11: So I had a weird question. It's more of a
- 1:03:52Speaker 11: NFL question that as opposed to the Patriots question. But
- 1:03:58Speaker 11: I think we kind of been a big bull a
- 1:04:00Speaker 11: couple of years ago. But do you guys think that
- 1:04:03Speaker 11: Brandon Ayuka is kind of committing career suicide with all
- 1:04:06Speaker 11: this crap he's posting about the forty nine ers. I mean,
- 1:04:09Speaker 11: if you're a g if you guys were gms, would
- 1:04:12Speaker 11: you sign this guy to any sort of big deal?
- 1:04:16Speaker 11: Just considering like he got almost close to fifty million
- 1:04:20Speaker 11: dollars from the Niners and then he's he's completely debasing them.
- 1:04:23Speaker 12: And I don't know.
- 1:04:24Speaker 11: If I was running a team, I wouldn't sign the guy.
- 1:04:27Speaker 11: But even if I was a team like Washington, I
- 1:04:30Speaker 11: wouldn't bring this guy on for more than like one
- 1:04:32Speaker 11: year at the league minimum. Just wanted to get your
- 1:04:34Speaker 11: guys opinion on that, and I'll pick it off there.
- 1:04:36Speaker 11: Thank you, guys.
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: Yeah, thanks Patty. There's there's a lot of what's that
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: called revolving door moments.
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, you know, Brandon au By effect, Calvin Ridley.
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: You know, like some of these guys that the Patriots
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: did make Chris Godwin, but that they didn't make real
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: runs at right, that didn't come to fruition. And at
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: the time we were all probably pretty bummed that they
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: didn't land those players. And as a turns out, I
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: mean maybe not so much with Ridley. I think Ridley
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: would have been a nice ad even at the time.
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: But without you, the only thing I would say about
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: you is I just hope he gets help. Like it
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: seems like the guy needs help. Like seriously, on a
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: serious note, Yes, I think that he needs uh. Before
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: we start talking about would I sign him in football
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: and all that kind of stuff and would team sign him? Uh,
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: his behavior looks to me like somebody that is that
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: is in need of of some real help. So I
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: hope he gets it, and I hope he gets uh.
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: Then he gets you know, once he gets his mental
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: health in order, then he can play football game because
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: he's a hell of a football player, and so I
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: always hate to see that happen to any guy. Uh,
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: you know, whether it's him or Antonio Brown or whatever.
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: That you know that that's the way that the career goes.
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: So would a team sign him right now? Probably not.
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: I think he's still technically under contract with they at
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: least have to They at least have his rights, like
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: they're they're at least in control of the player him. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: I would say no, But I would say that, you know,
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: most importantly that I hope that Brandon and gets his
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: his life.
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: Gets whatever help he needs, whether it's on the football
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: field or not.
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, Nate's in Connecticut. What's up, Nate? Nate,
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: you're still there. We left him on hole for a while. Ny,
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: you can call back and we'll get you right on.
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: Eldred's here. What's up, Eldred? I like that you're back
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: in the truck these days. Aldred. That's good. Got that bag, very.
- 1:06:33Speaker 12: Good for me.
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: Yes, I got two questions for you. One is, don't
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: you think somebody didn't do the homework on Acus? I
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: mean fully, because even with the injury, if he had
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: Injuria or procedure, you can't come to the facility. You
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: know that that to me there is a big red
- 1:06:53Speaker 4: flag from Jump Street. And the second question is I
- 1:06:58Speaker 4: hate to see Booty go if I keep putting in
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: Hollands and all that stuff, why not the older person
- 1:07:05Speaker 4: and then use your one of your UFDA uh with
- 1:07:11Speaker 4: speed and then well you got speed in the receiver.
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: You know he's trained behind like he's the third, fifth
- 1:07:16Speaker 4: or sixth receiver. Then he give gets risked behind Brown
- 1:07:20Speaker 4: and Dobbs. That's all I got to act and take
- 1:07:24Speaker 4: it off the air.
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: Sure, thanks for the college it as always So to
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: the second question. First, I think the thing with Matt Collins,
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: along with the fact that he's a versatile player and
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: we actually have an email that I want to get
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: to about him as well, along with the fact that
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: I like his skill set, especially with Drake May, mac
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: Collins is okay with being the fourth or fifth receiver
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: and the wide receiver, right, Matt.
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: Collins isn't worried about his next contract and so like.
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: Mac Collins has been that guy his whole career, as
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: is this kind of this guy that's a rotational player
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: and a great locker room guy. And a great, you know,
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: kind of personality to have on the team and veteran leader,
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: and he knows his role, he knows why he's here.
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: Kaishan Boody is looking for that next contract. He's looking
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: he's there in very very different chapters in their NFL career.
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: So I agree with Eldrid on the surface that Kaishon
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: Booty is a better player probably right now at this
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: point than Mac Collins. But is he a better fit
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: in the room than Mac.
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: Connins or what you have ahead of them. I think
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: Mac Collins is a better fit. I've seen that question too.
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: It's just it. It's a tough sell to keep Booty here,
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: just is.
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: Yeah, tis first point about Acus. I don't know if
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: they miss anything or not, but you mentioned it earlier
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: when we were talking about gay macis just being a
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: body language doctor. The body language from Mike Rabel yesterday
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: on the topic when he was getting questions from it
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: from the media about it was not great. So I
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: don't know what happened. I don't know if they missed something,
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: didn't miss something, whatever, But right.
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: Now to disagreement on treatment here, Yeah, there's.
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: Just something's up. Something's up. We know that all right?
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: Jay is in Atlanta? What's up?
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: Jay?
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: Jay there? It's up going on? Sorry, give us a
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: call back. Herm is in DC? What's up?
- 1:09:11Speaker 7: Herm?
- 1:09:13Speaker 5: Her?
- 1:09:13Speaker 6: It was bonem boys.
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: Hey.
- 1:09:16Speaker 6: Two quick questions for you guys. So the first question is,
- 1:09:21Speaker 6: so cover six seems to be coverage that. I mean,
- 1:09:25Speaker 6: if if any coverage at all, this seems to give
- 1:09:28Speaker 6: Drake May the most problems. So my first question was,
- 1:09:34Speaker 6: what do you guys thoughts on how obviously Agrian Brown
- 1:09:38Speaker 6: will help them right against that coverage. I don't know
- 1:09:41Speaker 6: if it's all of the personal thing most like a
- 1:09:44Speaker 6: scheme thing, that's something obviously you can elaborate, you guys
- 1:09:47Speaker 6: can elaborate on. And my second question is this right,
- 1:09:50Speaker 6: And obviously I don't want to really get the past.
- 1:09:52Speaker 6: I should let the past rest, but if you guys
- 1:09:55Speaker 6: can help me understand. And again, obviously that's no Nick
- 1:10:00Speaker 6: Hill Harry right, obviously whatever whatever. But I guess what
- 1:10:07Speaker 6: was Bill Bechick's mindset when he picked Nick Hi Harry over.
- 1:10:15Speaker 6: I guess A J. Brown specifically. It seems they are really,
- 1:10:19Speaker 6: you know, the same body type. And I looked up
- 1:10:21Speaker 6: the stats this morning. I mean they had coverable stats
- 1:10:26Speaker 6: coming out of their respective schools. So if you could
- 1:10:29Speaker 6: help me understand what I guess that Bill Betch's specifically
- 1:10:33Speaker 6: thought process was when he picked him over A. J. Brown,
- 1:10:37Speaker 6: specifically because they shumed to be the same body type. Yeah,
- 1:10:42Speaker 6: so I take up there, listen, Thank.
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: You, thanks too, good questions. So I want to cover
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: six questions A great question. Yeah, and I've thought about
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: this a lot, probably too much more than I should, honestly,
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: of why that specific coverage it was. I believe the
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: lowest e pa per temp or per dropback that Drake
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: may had of any coverage and basically any coverage you
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: can run in football, was Cover six, which is quarter
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: quarter half, so it's quarters are cover four to one side,
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: so it's two high safeties to one side or two
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: high players to one side, and then cover two to
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: the backside, so you have a cloud corner, you have
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: a corner underneath and a court of safety over the
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: top on one side of the field, and then you're
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: playing quarters usually to the passing straight side of the field,
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: so you have basically three guys over the top. But
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: it's not like cover three because it's like tilted right
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: to one side. Of the field a little bit. Some
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: of the things that I've theorized about this, I don't
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: know for a fact, And hopefully at some point I'll
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: get to ask, you know, Drake may or Josh McDaniels
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: or Ashton Grant or somebody about it. But in Josh
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: mcdaniels's system and a lot of systems, typically routes convert
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: based off of the shell of the coverage, and the
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: quarterback is going to start on the progression. Sometimes not all,
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: but sometimes the quarterback starts on the side of the
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: progression based off the coverage shell as well. So the
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: shell meaning where the safeties are aligned or they align
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: and a split safety coverage, or are they aligned in
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: a single high safety coverage like Cover three or Cover one.
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: So when he sees Cover six, my gut is telling
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: me that maybe that messes up with their process of
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: how are these routes converting. Are we treating this as
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: split safety or we treating this uh, you know, how
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: are we Where are we starting in the progression? You
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: know that sort of thing. And so you see him
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: hold the ball. You know, now some of the reason
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: why I think he struggles against Cover six just to
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: be honest is that a lot of the best defenses
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: in the league happen to run cover six strug So
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: like if you you know, Seattle ran it a lot
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: in the Super Bowl. There are great defense they're great
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: at executing it. So some of it is just about
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: the personnel that the other team has, and the other
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: team deserves credit too, But I do wonder if some
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: of the differences. You know, McDaniel's system is a coverage
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: read system, so the progressions are based off the coverage.
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: If they're in too high, we're going here with our eyes.
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: If they're in single high, we're going here with our eyes.
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: If it's zone, we're going there. If it's man, we're
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: going here. In other systems, they're just pure progression reads.
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: It's just one, two, three, four, five, because who's open, right,
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: we're throwing to whoever's open. This is much more you know,
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: sophisticated than that. And sometimes these combination coverages match coverages
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: where they're carrying guys, they're passing off guys like a zone.
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: If they're going underneath, they're carrying verticals, they're changing pictures
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: post snap. You know, there's another defense as I'm going
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: on this rant that had this issue. Brady had a
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: lot of issues with Buffalo's defense at times under Sean McDermott,
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: because they ran a lot of match cover two, so
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: they would carry verticals, they would pass off zone, you know,
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: underneath routes. You know, usually at like six or eight
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: yards they make that declaration, and a lot of what
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: would happen, They disguise it all up and post they
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: would just change everything up and the picture would change
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: on the quarterback and the receivers, and so it really
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: had a It sometimes was a struggle for Brady and
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: for McDaniels against that kind of defense. So I wonder
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: if it's a little bit of the coverage read versus
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: progression read sort of thing, and that whole conversation where
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: Drake may is, you know, expecting when he opens up,
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: he's expecting to see a certain coverage and maybe he's
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: seeing something a little bit different, or the routes convert
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: a little bit different against different looks and all those
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: different types of things. So I actually think that that's
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: something when Josh McDaniels and Mike Rabel talk about having
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: fresh ideas and new ideas, I would say beating Cover
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: six has got to be near the top of the
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: list because the two things that Drake may struggled a
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: little bit against, especially when the opponents got better, were
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: all out pressure like Cover zero blitzes and Cover six.
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: And so what is every team on their schedule that
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: has the horses to execute it while gonna do all
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: of next year? They're gonna run Cover six and they're
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: gonna run pressure, and so at that point, like that,
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: that becomes a blueprint, and you have to be able
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: to beat the blueprint. So, really good question. I think
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: that that's something that I think about a time because
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: I'm a nerd. But I hope that you know they're
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: thinking about a ton too, and I'm sure they are
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: down the street as well. To his second question revisiting
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: the kill, Harry versus A. J. Brown, we both covered
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: the team at the time. Yeah, it was.
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: It was the first draft we worked together.
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: It was pretty surprising, if I remember correctly, that they
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: drafted a receiver at all, because Belichick never had right.
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: It is the first time they had ever drafted a
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: receiver in the first round. Now it was the thirty second.
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: We thought they were gonna who did we think they
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: were gonna take?
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: I don't remember.
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: I think we were looking well, Drew lock was one
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: of them.
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: We thought you were going to take a quarterback.
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: Yeah we did.
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: It was like late stage Brady get the next guy
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: in the room.
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: Okay, maybe yeah, I don't remember that. I don't remember.
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: There were a bunch of tackles. I think we were
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: talking about so taken as win the year before. I
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: don't remember. Irv Smith was a big one.
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: Yep, the tight end from Alabama, right, Yep, didn't have
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: a great NFL.
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: Career, jj R saying a white side. I remember a
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: lot of people talking about Andy as a belle. I
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: don't think he's probably weren't projected first.
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: Round now, but so I would say the biggest I
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: can't justify it, honestly. The reporting at the time and
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: and the aftermath was, if you want to believe, like
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: the sort of vindictive side of Bill Belichick, was that
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: aj Brown posted a snapchat or something like that of
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: him in the parking lot here and kind of broke
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: the news that he was on the visit on his
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: own personal social media, and I didn't like that too much.
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: If you want to believe that, you know, Nikhil Harry
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: knocked his visit out of the park and was like
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: kind of just great in the building, great on the
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: white board, you know, had a really good thirty visit.
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: AJ Brown. Maybe they didn't feel had quite as good
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: of a visit. Sometimes that swayed it if you want
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: to look football wise, because it's so hard to look
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: football wise when you're comparing to kill Harry to AJ Brown.
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: But if you want to look football like, maybe a
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: little bit more size, just in terms of height, you know,
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: like literally just height. Yeah, they I think Nikhil Harry
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: was like, what six three six y four?
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: AJ Brown's like six' one on a good. DAY i
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: can't really come up with a great football reason for.
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: It but they were in the same sort of, mold
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: like they were similar. PLAYERS i don't say that's part.
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: Of what the surprise was was he was so not their.
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: PROTOTYPE i think you had said at the, time AND
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: i still feel this. Way the real second guess if
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: you put yourself in that, moment and it's really easy
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: to second great GUESS Aj brown Or deebo WAS dk metcalf,
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: right like these guys that we just saw become. Stars,
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: yeah but they didn't fit the. Profile now you could, Argue,
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: okay they should have drifted from the profile receiver they
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: were drafting because it wasn't. Working, fine but they d
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: a type they kept drafting that. TYPE Aj brown wasn't that.
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: Type neither Was. Nikkeel the second guess Was terry. McLaurin,
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: yeah Because terry McLaurin was, There Like terry mcclaurin would
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: not have been out of place for them as a
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: wide receiver. Pick nikkeel was A J brown would have
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: BEEN Dk metcalf would have Been terry McLaurin was the
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: kind of wide receiver they'd been drafting the whole. Time
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: but then look at what he. Became, obviously you want
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: the consensus mock for The patriots that, year twenty. Nineteen,
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: Yeah so at the, draft the most popular mocked player
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: to The, Patriots this one actually makes a lot of
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: sense WAS Irv, smith but there wasn't a strong. Consensus
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: he was only at seventeen. Percent the next most common
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: mock picks for them Were Noah, Fant, Yeah Jeffrey, Simmons Jerry,
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: Tillery Drew, locke And Will.
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: Greer SO i was a Big tillery. Guy now that
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: a kick or jogging my. MEMORY i remember being pretty
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: high On tillery and he was like a Classic belichick two,
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: gapping three four defensive end type of. PLAYER i remember
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: THAT i the biggest thing to me With Nikhil, harry
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: AND i think that maybe this is somewhat relevant to
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: The patriots. Today Although drake may is a different kind
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: of quarterback obviously Than Tom. Brady my whole thing didn't
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: understand what the way they approached drafting receivers. Is what
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: they should have really been looking for was a more
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: Athletic Jacobe, myers like a player that had that cerebral
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: ability that had to you, Know Jacoby myers had a quarterback.
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: Background maybe it's a guy or the quarterback, background but
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: Basically Jacoby, myers but like hopefully with the higher ceiling
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: and a better athletic. Profile and instead they drafted a
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: guy Like Nikhil harry who was slower and couldn't run
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: routes and didn't really know how to run a, great you,
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: know diverse route, tree and it just wasn't a system.
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: Fit they Draft Taekwon, thorion AND i know it's a
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: little bit of a different, system but same general. System
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: they Draft Taekwon, thoron who's a one trick you, know,
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: Speedster like they. Didn't to, me that was. It and
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: maybe they tried to do that With Jalen polk and
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: that also didn't. Work but that was A vp and
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: that was not the same. Offense you, know we'll. See but,
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: like to, me that was always the biggest second guest
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: With belichick is, like, okay so you could Identify Jacobe,
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: myers you can Identify Julian edelman at the back end
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: of the just draft that guy but drafted with the
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: four to four instead of a four. Six, Yeah, LIKE
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: i don't know why that had to be so.
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: Difficult, so, uh mock draft database has a couple other
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: mocks here from twenty. Nineteen some Networks i've never heard
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: had them Going Jerry tillery And Deebo samuel with their first.
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: Two, Yeah tillary was, Popped.
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: Dexter lawrence And Deebo, Samuel Dexter lawrence and new Here
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: Atalleie Phil perry a good. One kayleb McGary And Dawson.
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: Knox he had them traking trading. Back take McGary The Dawson,
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: Knox kayleb McGarry And terry McLaurin From Andrew. Callahan that
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: was his. Mock, okay well, Done pat's pulpit whoever was
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: doing it for, them and Clelland farrell and jj Are Sega.
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: Whiteside and then we have ended up going top.
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: Ten, yeah we have the final gosh mock draft From
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: Sealings media And Evan. Lazar in twenty, nineteen first, Round Jerry, Tillery.
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: YEAH i KNEW i was high on till you had
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: two second.
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: Round Picks Dalton rise During Will. Greer, okay you had
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: them Taking Jace sternberger And Mikole hardman both in the third.
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: ROUND i really like you to he Liked. Sternberger remember
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: that fourth Round jalen hurt yea sixth Round Sequon. Hampton
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: you got to get A rutgers safety in. There and
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: then seventh Round Dontavious, russell a defensive linement From, Aumburn
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: yoshua and Nij man a tackle From. Virginia Tech Otaro alaka.
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: From A yasha went on to have a really GOOD nfl,
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: career did? He? Yeah Where, yeah he's kind of like a,
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: journeyman but, okay, good good. Solid, Finally Nick, easley wide
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: receiver From. Iowa, okay SO i was IN i KNEW
- 1:21:28Speaker 2: i was in On. Tillary once you mentioned that, NAME
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: i just had.
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: FORGOT i, Mean tillery rised your career and then you
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: would Equal ardman in the third like been.
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: Fine Ja sternberger would have been a big swing in
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: the Miss.
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: But we buy. It we both really LIKED i think
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: THE Nfl Josh nyman playing in the league up until last. Year,
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: yeah no solid, player like, yeah just just. Retired yeah,
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: alright he ended up going. Undrafted it was a good
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: career from undrafted.
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: PLAYER i like that exercise because it holds us, accountable you,
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: know shows up some of our, misses WHICH i feel
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: like people ask him out all the, time like who
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: are the guys that we really?
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: WITH i THINK i published one in twenty. Nineteen i'll
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: see what more YOURS i can, find And i'll see
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: IF i can find some of mine.
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: If we have if we have time in one of
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: these dead offseason, shows maybe we can go through some
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: of these.
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: And, yeah after, that the only ones for you twenty twenty,
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: three that's too.
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: Recent that's too THAT i got too. RECENT i was
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: working here by this by that, Right So mike is
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: in the, car what's, Up? Mike, hey what's, up, Guys,
- 1:22:26Speaker 2: hey how are we? Doing first?
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: Time long?
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: Time thanks for taking the, Call thanks for calling.
- 1:22:31Speaker 13: ME i just wanted to ask About, yeah, THANKS i
- 1:22:34Speaker 13: just wanted to ask About Trevion. Henderson when he was,
- 1:22:37Speaker 13: DRAFTED i feel like there was a lot of talk
- 1:22:39Speaker 13: about him, being you, know kind of a swift leg
- 1:22:41Speaker 13: back where he could catch just as well as he
- 1:22:44Speaker 13: could run and be a really versatile element of the past.
- 1:22:46Speaker 13: GAME i feel like last, Year i'm NOT i don't
- 1:22:49Speaker 13: have the stats on, this But remandre took more more
- 1:22:52Speaker 13: passes than he, did and you, KNOW i Know OTA's
- 1:22:55Speaker 13: and stuff is basically like a passing. Camp So i'm
- 1:22:57Speaker 13: just curious what have you guys seen from him in
- 1:23:00Speaker 13: terms of, like has he been catching, passes has he
- 1:23:02Speaker 13: been used a certain?
- 1:23:03Speaker 6: Way and then what.
- 1:23:04Speaker 13: Way would you like to see him be? Used maybe
- 1:23:07Speaker 13: in the, Future but thanks for the, call, Guest.
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: Thanks for the, Call mike and.
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: Listening last, Year henderson called thirty five passes in seventeen.
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: Games romandre caught thirty two and fourteen.
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: Games SO i think that to the number one biggest
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: thing THAT i would like to See Trayvon henderson do
- 1:23:21Speaker 2: more is run vertical routes out of the. BACKFIELD i,
- 1:23:23Speaker 2: mean with that kind of, speed if you can get
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: him on a wheel, route you can get, him you,
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: know get him into the, seams anything really vertically up the.
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: FIELD i think he could be a nightmare for. Linebackers
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: all of these things about diversifying his role and having
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: him be more of a complete, player they'll come back
- 1:23:39Speaker 2: to pass. Blocking, like if he can't pass, block he's
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: not going to be on the field on third. Down
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: if he's not on the field on third, down he's
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: not going to do all the things that we want
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: to see him. DO i think he could be a
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: really effective player on vertical. ROUTES i think he can
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: be effective player on. SCREENS i thought at times on
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: screens last year his pacing was a little bit. Off
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: he was moving a little too. Fast he's got a
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: lot of his block you, know develop a little bit.
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: More but in, THEORY i don't think That Trayvon henderson's
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: issues or lack of production in the passing game was
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: because of his receiving. ABILITY i think it was because
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: of his blocking. Ability and if he can't block, better
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: then they're not going to put him on the field
- 1:24:13Speaker 2: And remandre is one of the best pass blockers in
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: the league at that. Position so it's not just that
- 1:24:18Speaker 2: you have to be better in terms Of Trevon, henderson
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: but you have to at least be in the ballpark
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: Of Ramandra stevenson to make your play speed worth it
- 1:24:26Speaker 2: to put it on the. Field so that would be
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: my big thing With henderson and he talked about that
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: was it last week when we talked to. Him, yeah
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: that those were the areas this time of, year in
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: these passing camps that he was really working. On AND
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: i think that's that spot on like him being a
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: better pass, blocker better in foots pick up will allow
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: them to unlock. THINGS i go back. TO i, know
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: you know this wasn't, here so a lot of people weren't.
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: There but when we were In minnesota last year for
- 1:24:53Speaker 2: the joint, practices he caught a wheel route out of
- 1:24:56Speaker 2: the backfield in one of the team. Periods had to
- 1:25:00Speaker 2: have been like a sixty five yard.
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: Touchdown, yeah and he just was.
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: Gone AND i remember The vikings media had talked With
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: Brian flores and it came up With Brian flores And
- 1:25:13Speaker 2: Brian flores was just blown away By Travon. HENDERSON i
- 1:25:16Speaker 2: Think devin mccordy hadn't mentioned it on the broadcast of
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: that preseason. GAME i would love to be able to
- 1:25:22Speaker 2: see more of that and see more of his field
- 1:25:25Speaker 2: stretching ability out of the. Backfield but he's got to
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: be able to, block, so you, know that's the biggest
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: thing to. Me that's his in my. OPINION i know
- 1:25:32Speaker 2: a lot of people talk about him running the ball
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: and the reds inside and. THINGS i don't ever really
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: fully expect him to be a great interior, runner BUT
- 1:25:41Speaker 2: i would really like to see his game develop in
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: terms of the.
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: Passage, yeah and he's such a good screen. Player, yeah
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: but you got to be able to block to be
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: out there in the passing game for.
- 1:25:49Speaker 2: Sure, Yep sean is In. Vancouver what's, Up? Sean?
- 1:25:54Speaker 12: Yeah you know on Ste heye had an amazing. SEASON
- 1:25:59Speaker 12: i COULDN'T i could him to do any better over
- 1:26:02Speaker 12: a thousand. Yards great, leadership, amazing like everything thrown to.
- 1:26:07Speaker 12: Him but The patriots managed him to be successful and
- 1:26:13Speaker 12: maintain his playing time throughly off the year by just
- 1:26:17Speaker 12: having him do less than fifty five percent of. Snaps
- 1:26:21Speaker 12: he's not a run, blocker so he's not going to
- 1:26:24Speaker 12: be on the field when they're running the. Ball, WELL A.
- 1:26:26Speaker 12: J BROWN i see. DIFFERENTLY i, mean he had but
- 1:26:29Speaker 12: eighty five percent snap play with The eagles last. Season he's,
- 1:26:33Speaker 12: bigger he can run. BLOCK i can see him being
- 1:26:36Speaker 12: on the field even like in twenty two, personnel if
- 1:26:38Speaker 12: he's the lone, receiver he might be the. One SO
- 1:26:41Speaker 12: i think it'll be. DIFFERENT i, MEAN i don't expect
- 1:26:43Speaker 12: him to have the crazy efficiency That dix, had BUT
- 1:26:47Speaker 12: i think The patriots will Play brown quite a bit
- 1:26:50Speaker 12: differently than they Did.
- 1:26:51Speaker 6: Dicks And i'll leave you with, that Thanks.
- 1:26:53Speaker 2: Sean, YEAH i, mean he's a different kind of, player
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: AND i think the part that excites me not that
- 1:26:58Speaker 2: there's anything wrong with How digs got to a thousand
- 1:27:01Speaker 2: yards last, year but what excites me ABOUT Aj brown
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: is that you know him being a TRUE x and
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: that ability to stretch the field but also take coverage
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: away from the middle of the. Field you still have
- 1:27:13Speaker 2: guys Like Romeo, Dobbs, Hunter henry Pop. Douglas you know
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: he's on the field that can really win in those
- 1:27:20Speaker 2: intermediate areas between the numbers AND Aj brown taking number
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: one corner, attention maybe taking safety attention with him is
- 1:27:28Speaker 2: really just going to open it, up whereas with The
- 1:27:31Speaker 2: patriots last year it was kind of like clamped down
- 1:27:33Speaker 2: on the middle of the, field kind of like the
- 1:27:35Speaker 2: Old brady playbook at, times Where diggs was sort of the.
- 1:27:39Speaker 2: ENGINE i think in some ways it's easier to double
- 1:27:44Speaker 2: guys that are inside versus double guys that are, outside
- 1:27:46Speaker 2: because you can bracket them when they're, inside, Right whereas
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: with when you double a guy on the. Outside AND
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: i don't know IF Aj brown at this point of
- 1:27:53Speaker 2: his career is like truly a bracket, Player LIKE i
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: don't know if he's THAT Aj brown sixteen hundred YARD
- 1:27:58Speaker 2: Aj brown, Anymore but when you double a guy on
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: the on the, outside it's basically like you're. Pulling now
- 1:28:06Speaker 2: you have to cover everybody else with only nine, guys,
- 1:28:08Speaker 2: Right like it's you're taking a lot more, uh you're
- 1:28:12Speaker 2: creating a lot more space between the numbers by doing.
- 1:28:15Speaker 2: That whereas If diggs is, inside you can kind of
- 1:28:19Speaker 2: just put a corner on, him give him the linebacker
- 1:28:21Speaker 2: in the middle of the field as sort of a help,
- 1:28:23Speaker 2: defender give him the safety over the, top and he's
- 1:28:26Speaker 2: really kind of bracketed in there on the. Inside good
- 1:28:29Speaker 2: defenses can do that and kind of take away those
- 1:28:32Speaker 2: types of. Guys it's a lot harder to take away
- 1:28:34Speaker 2: the outside, guy by my, opinion just.
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: Spacing, yeah SO.
- 1:28:39Speaker 2: I think that's what excites me the most About. Brown
- 1:28:42Speaker 2: but one of the other things That sean mentioned was
- 1:28:44Speaker 2: him playing a lot of snaps In, philly especially if they,
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: maintain you, know their, depth they will see About Kayshawn.
- 1:28:50Speaker 2: BOOTY i actually expect them to manage him a lot
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: more MANAGE i.
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: Don't how many what percentage do you play last? Year you?
- 1:28:57Speaker 2: KNOW i Think sean said like eighty eight, percent which
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: sounds about, right almost ninety. PERCENT i DON'T i.
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: Think his number should be higher than fifty five. Percent
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: oh either we should still be in like the seventies he,
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: played not in ninety one, Percent, yeah between the fifteen.
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: Games so, yeah he should be on the Field Morton diggs.
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: Was, yeah he definitely will be on the field more
- 1:29:18Speaker 2: Than diggs. Was BUT i do think that they will
- 1:29:20Speaker 2: try to manage him better Than philly.
- 1:29:22Speaker 6: Did.
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: Yep uh Now.
- 1:29:23Speaker 2: Philly at, times he's kind of just running wind sprints
- 1:29:26Speaker 2: and taking attention out. There it's not like he's really
- 1:29:29Speaker 2: AND i, think you, know he got flack for the
- 1:29:32Speaker 2: fact that he took some routes, off but it's, like,
- 1:29:33Speaker 2: well he's a, Decoy like it's what he's doing so
- 1:29:37Speaker 2: that that. Happens matt is In. Tennessee what's, Up?
- 1:29:40Speaker 14: Matt, hey, guys how y'all doing? Good HETE. I, so
- 1:29:47Speaker 14: So I'm i'm super excited about this Aj brown. Thing
- 1:29:50Speaker 14: BUT i have to ask. Sy'all so This Christian gonzales
- 1:29:53Speaker 14: situation is really really bothering. Me SO i want my
- 1:29:57Speaker 14: question for you guys is when do you guys this being,
- 1:30:00Speaker 14: resolved and if it's not, resolved how far how far
- 1:30:05Speaker 14: into the season do you think this may go or
- 1:30:07Speaker 14: how do you think it would Affect Christian gonzalez play
- 1:30:09Speaker 14: for the. Year i'll let you.
- 1:30:10Speaker 6: All let y'all answer.
- 1:30:11Speaker 12: That thank.
- 1:30:11Speaker 2: You Thanks. MATT i have no inside, information but, YEAH
- 1:30:16Speaker 2: i would think that the idea would be for both
- 1:30:18Speaker 2: sides to get this done by the start of training. Camp,
- 1:30:21Speaker 2: now maybe it will be the you, know they they
- 1:30:25Speaker 2: report on the twenty. Fourth maybe he's signing the contract
- 1:30:28Speaker 2: on the twenty fourth and they agree to it on
- 1:30:30Speaker 2: the twenty. Third BUT i think the idea would be
- 1:30:32Speaker 2: to get it done by the started training. Camp most
- 1:30:35Speaker 2: of the, time And i'm not saying that this is
- 1:30:37Speaker 2: a great way to do, business but most of the
- 1:30:39Speaker 2: time a player In Christian, gonzalez the situation is going
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: to play. LIKE i don't think he's going to hold
- 1:30:45Speaker 2: out into the regular season and lose game checks and
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: things like. That that's not that that's very very.
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: Rare so, again the timeline from last year with the
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: twenty twenty two. Class the year Before, Gonzales Derek stingly
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: signed On march twenty. Seventh he was. First Tyler smith
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: And Charles cross signed the last week Of. April Garrett
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: wilson signed On july. Fourteenth Sauce gardner signed On july.
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: Fifteenth Kyle, hamilton who participated in mini camp and training,
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: camp didn't sign To august twenty. Seventh, yeah he didn't
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: sign till after, camp and then you had guys signed
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: into the. Season Aiden, hutchinson now he's coming off an.
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: Injury he signed On october twenty. Ninth, yeah to take
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: it a step. Further the one other notable corner from
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: that first, Round tred, McDuffie never. Signed trent McDuffie played
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: the whole year extension, eligible then got, traded and then
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: obviously got the extension after he got. Traded so, YEAH
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: i look at some point In july probably closer to
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: camp than. NOT i think is a more Realistic. Tom
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: And i've said this the POINT i actually start to
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: worry a little bits if he's not out there for padded. Practices,
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: yeah that's WHERE i would start to. Worry, yeah that's
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: HOW i feel about.
- 1:31:49Speaker 2: It Is, again like we said earlier on in the,
- 1:31:52Speaker 2: show if they were worlds apart in this negotiation and
- 1:31:56Speaker 2: it was starting to turn, SOUR i just don't think
- 1:31:59Speaker 2: he would would be participating at any level in mini, camp,
- 1:32:02Speaker 2: Right AND i know that he hasn't done any live you,
- 1:32:05Speaker 2: know team drills or eleven on, eleven's but even going
- 1:32:09Speaker 2: through with the walkthroughs and going through the walk crews
- 1:32:11Speaker 2: in his normal, spot you, know on the other side
- 1:32:14Speaker 2: Of Carlton davis with the starting defense and then going
- 1:32:17Speaker 2: and doing a press conference after the practice with The
- 1:32:20Speaker 2: patriots gear and The patriots. Backdrop, LIKE i don't think
- 1:32:24Speaker 2: that this is a situation at this point where he's
- 1:32:27Speaker 2: considering holding out of camp or even were worlds away
- 1:32:31Speaker 2: from him holding out of, games, Right SO i don't.
- 1:32:34Speaker 2: KNOW i think right now they're tracking for it to get.
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: Done.
- 1:32:38Speaker 2: YEAH i don't know if we'll get, there if they'll
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: get it across the finish, line BUT i feel like
- 1:32:43Speaker 2: that's where it's tracking to. Go let's answer some of
- 1:32:47Speaker 2: these emails.
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: Real, quick because they did it to you on some
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: Old mont.
- 1:32:50Speaker 2: Drafts, yeah give, me give me a. Couple, okay this
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: is me in twenty. Twenty oh, Good so this.
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: Is The copdugger. Draft this was THE covid, year so,
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: yeah the tough. One, YEAH i THINK i did this
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: just before go fur lowed first, Round xavier, McKinney, yeah second,
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: Round Cole, comet third, Round Michael, pittman fourth, Round Shane
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: lemieue sixth, Round Mohammed Barry Tyler bass seventh, Round Alex,
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: Taylor Stanford, samuels And Brian lourkey who did end up
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: A patriot as at U dfa not, bad, uh, McKinney,
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: Comet pittman off the rip pretty.
- 1:33:21Speaker 2: Good, Yeah pittman was a good.
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: One and THEN i found a couple of my twenty
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: twenty one ones as. Well so twenty this is the
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: Mac jones here, YEAP i had them sticking and picking a,
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: Linebacker Patrick, queen good byer then trading up For Cole oh,
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: wait maybe this was twenty, twenty BECAUSE i have Cole comet,
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: again this might be data Was Patrick queen twenty?
- 1:33:42Speaker 2: TWENTY i don't. REMEMBER i thought he was twenty?
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: One he, said, okay this is dated, wrong this is
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: this was twenty. Twenty it says was posted in twenty.
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: One but So Patrick, queen Cole, Comet Shane, lemue this
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: is actually very. Similar Van. JEFFERSON i think we're both really.
- 1:33:56Speaker 2: In A Van. Jefferson you really liked Cole.
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: COMETT i Did Tanner, Muse tyler bass Uh owl And Wholway.
- 1:34:04Speaker 2: BATIKO i remember Weird Tanner muse was a name that
- 1:34:07Speaker 2: came out but a lot on our shows at that.
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: Point, okay here is a. One, okay so this was
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: The Mac jones. CLASS i did not have to take
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: in a. Quarterback, NO i Was Christian. Barmore, RIGHT i
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: had one With Mac. Jones BUT i think this was
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: like they recommitted to cam AND i was, like all,
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: RIGHT i Guess i'm not gonna take. Quarterback, Yeah Christian
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: derek Saw Eric, Stokes Dimitric, Felton Jonathan, Allen Kiris.
- 1:34:33Speaker 2: Tonga Dimitric. Felton we we everybody loved the dimitricon.
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: Now Kiris, Tonga Felipe franks and Uh Felipe.
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: Franks was you Loved Felipe? Franks, yeah you were so
- 1:34:46Speaker 2: into that position. Switch and then who was?
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: This so this is. Weird this one's only the pictures
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: because it got posted. Weird Grant, STEWART i, think is
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: what this guy's name. Was so he was, like uh,
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: Yeah Grant. Stewart he's still in the. League he was
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: a undersize lined acker From. Houston he was like a
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: special teams guy's on the.
- 1:35:02Speaker 2: Rams, NOW i there was another name you mentioned there
- 1:35:04Speaker 2: THAT i read it to me, Again Jonathan. Adams oh,
- 1:35:07Speaker 2: No Darris. Out darrisau was one of those. Guys yeah
- 1:35:10Speaker 2: that like when you want to if you want to
- 1:35:13Speaker 2: like set your eyes to try to do some of
- 1:35:15Speaker 2: your own like at home. Scouting, yeah if you want
- 1:35:18Speaker 2: to watch what a first round tackle is supposed to look,
- 1:35:21Speaker 2: like go Watch Christian Darris out in. College like his
- 1:35:24Speaker 2: college tape was, dominant like absolutely. Dominant he's been a
- 1:35:28Speaker 2: GREAT nfl. PLAYER i know he was hurt last, year,
- 1:35:30Speaker 2: right he got banged. Up, yeah but he he's been a,
- 1:35:33Speaker 2: dominant dominant college. Tape like when you turned On Christian
- 1:35:37Speaker 2: darrisow where was It Virginia? Tech, yes, yeah he was
- 1:35:41Speaker 2: just mullin, dudes AND i was, Like, wow this guy's
- 1:35:44Speaker 2: this is what it was supposed to look. Like he
- 1:35:46Speaker 2: went a couple of picks ahead of, them, right thirteen
- 1:35:49Speaker 2: twelve thirteen thinks.
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: So yeah him in another, tackle him And, Slater.
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: Yeah stud stud. Played oh, no Did deris go before?
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: Them slater went. THIRTEEN i thought he went before. Them
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: darriss went because that was also The pina sool here
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: And Vera Tucker.
- 1:36:04Speaker 2: Farah tucker, Went, wow what a.
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: Draft, No darrisaw went twenty. Third oh, wow so it
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: WAS i must have gotten. Him sewell went. Seventh, Yeah
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: slater went. THIRTEENTH i was getting the mixed up that whole.
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: Year Alex leatherwood win, seventeenth Jeez, Raiders Darris saw went twenty,
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: third and then that was it for tackles in the first.
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: Round Tevin jenkins went thirty, Ninth Lea mikenberg in the
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: second round to Actually Walker little kept going to the second. Round,
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: YEAH i Think sam caused me had a decent career
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: more at. Guard but, Yeah dylan Ray duns another guy
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: who had a good career at. Guard this was a
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: really good tackle. Draft, yeah but, yeah Darrisawng.
- 1:36:39Speaker 2: Went what was the concern with?
- 1:36:40Speaker 5: Him was he?
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: HURT i think he was. HURT i don't.
- 1:36:42Speaker 2: Know he was a hell of a college. Player and
- 1:36:45Speaker 2: his tape was just like, That LIKE i said, that
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: that's what it's supposed to look like to be a
- 1:36:50Speaker 2: first round.
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: Talent because it wasn't arm, length because it was arm
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: length FOR i think injury sounds. Right it was arm
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: length for what's his? Name the other, One, Slater.
- 1:36:59Speaker 2: Yeah who was a good right on the thirty three
- 1:37:01Speaker 2: and really kind of he measured at thirty three kind
- 1:37:04Speaker 2: of reset the threshold. Permanently.
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: Right the weaknesses the lance zerline weaknesses For derisol can
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: be too nonchalant at, times inexplicably lets opponents off the
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: hook early rather than, finishing too reliant upon athletics and over,
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: technique low, hands open outside, hip so all. Techniques, yeah
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: lazy with hand, placement rushes. Through so they just thought
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: he it kind of that Same gonzales. Thing it's not
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: they didn't know if he.
- 1:37:27Speaker 2: Was sometimes on that he's bocking guys ten to fifteen
- 1:37:31Speaker 2: yards down the.
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: Field you hear. It the low burn field demeanor leads
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: to inconsistencies in, play but the athletic traits and talent
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: as a true left tackle should create first round demand
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: as a higher, ceiling lower floor prospect stud. Player it's
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: fun to revisit this stuff sometimes because we lock in
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: on this stuff and then it's so much and it's, Like, okay,
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: well let's see what they said About christian because that's
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: something THAT i would read AND i would look at
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: AND i would say that worries, me and the same With.
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: Gonzales it worried. People and now look where we.
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: ARE i have a really bad AND i wish That
- 1:38:01Speaker 2: i'm trying to get better at it because it's good
- 1:38:03Speaker 2: to know the players in the. League, obviously of, like
- 1:38:06Speaker 2: as soon as they don't draft the guy THAT i
- 1:38:08Speaker 2: did a lot of research, on all their research just
- 1:38:10Speaker 2: goes puff out of my.
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: Head now that we've done this long, enough it'll hit
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: me four years. Later i'll be, LIKE i remember this
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: guy from the. DRAFT i remember this guy from the.
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: Draft BUT i Think i'm more of a. Habit it
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: doesn't go out of my. Head but it's more LIKE
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: i remember HOW i felt about them at the, draft
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: and that's HOW i feel about.
- 1:38:24Speaker 2: Them oh, WELL i think executives in the league.
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: With, that but, LIKE i, KNOW i need to better
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: about all of. Them, Right it's, like, hey this guy's
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: played four years. Now if a guy comes like the
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: year after the, draft that may be more inclined to,
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: That But i've definitely been guilty of that at.
- 1:38:39Speaker 2: All, well it's good not only because they might be
- 1:38:41Speaker 2: playing those, players AND i have a tendency of that,
- 1:38:43Speaker 2: too where you, KNOW I i go back, to, oh
- 1:38:47Speaker 2: here are some of the weaknesses of this, player and
- 1:38:48Speaker 2: it's really just the WEAKNESSES i thought of him coming
- 1:38:50Speaker 2: out of the. Draft. Right but even, still like four
- 1:38:54Speaker 2: or five years from, now those guys are all going
- 1:38:55Speaker 2: to be free, agents and you know there might be
- 1:38:57Speaker 2: a chance for them to sign maxi on a chor
- 1:38:59Speaker 2: or Fat cowl or you, know one of these guys
- 1:39:02Speaker 2: THAT i talked about for six.
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: Months, again the first draft we really did was twenty,
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: nineteen and so nineteen twenty, THREE i remember that offseason
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: feeling LIKE i suddenly had this massive jump in knowing
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: the players around the, league like, well and not just
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: names and all, that and like. That that's part of
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: the reason we dive so deep into the, draft like
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: you're learning what the league is gonna. Be, YEAH i
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: remember you were a BIG avt guy, Right, yes that.
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: Year so let me let me ask you this to
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: kind of bring this exercise to the Current. Patriots remembering
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: what you said About avt at the time to, now
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: was there a big? Change i'll see IF i can
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: find anything you wrote About elive very. Time, WELL i.
- 1:39:44Speaker 2: Wish he had stayed, healthier LIKE i.
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: Think, yeah he's a tough.
- 1:39:46Speaker 2: One that was something that we can couldn't. PREDICT i
- 1:39:49Speaker 2: thought that his tape was really solid at, tackle but
- 1:39:53Speaker 2: probably better at. Guard BUT i really liked him coming,
- 1:39:57Speaker 2: out super, athletic great.
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: Feet you at the time saw him as more of a, Tackle.
- 1:40:02Speaker 2: YEAH i. Believe so IF i remember, CORRECTLY i probably
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: could pull my spreadsheet up from that YEAR i. WAS
- 1:40:07Speaker 2: i really liked. Him, NOW i have a bias TOWARDS usc,
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: Players i'll just admit that off the, Top BUT i
- 1:40:13Speaker 2: really liked, him AND i think they really liked him.
- 1:40:15Speaker 2: Too if the reporting was, CORRECT i think that there
- 1:40:17Speaker 2: were people in the, room maybe Even Bill, belichick that
- 1:40:20Speaker 2: preferred him over Mac, jones AND i don't think he
- 1:40:23Speaker 2: didn't make it to The. Patriots they ended. Up he
- 1:40:26Speaker 2: ended up with The jets at like thirteen or, fourteen,
- 1:40:28Speaker 2: Right so.
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: It was the pick before, that yes traded.
- 1:40:31Speaker 2: UP i think there's some reporting at the time of
- 1:40:34Speaker 2: the draft that The patriots might have actually gone Like
- 1:40:37Speaker 2: Vera Tucker Davis mills instead of Mac jones at that,
- 1:40:40Speaker 2: pick If Vera tucker had felt to him he was
- 1:40:43Speaker 2: a really good college, player really good. PROSPECT i have.
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: Your thing up, here BUT i can't find. Him do
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: you remember where you had to me this is your
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: top fifty or did you not have him on your top?
- 1:40:52Speaker 2: FIFTY i don't. KNOW i don't. KNOW i got to
- 1:40:55Speaker 2: let me look up my. Spreadsheet i'll do that AFTER
- 1:40:57Speaker 2: i read this email and you can't answer the, email
- 1:40:59Speaker 2: and THEN i. Will so we got a couple of
- 1:41:01Speaker 2: these emails about mc. Collins this one's From, chris but
- 1:41:05Speaker 2: we had.
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: Three oh, wait hang, ON i got, him, Okay so
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: that you had him as number seventeen projected first round.
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: Pick you have a tweet in. Here most of him
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: is a guard prospect at the next, level but his
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: left tackle tape in twenty twenty was, solid very smooth
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: and fluid pass sets quick feet and easily gets his set.
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: Points what you actually wrote some Project Vera tucker as
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: a guard after he started games of both left tackle
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: and left garden. College THE usc product is one smooth
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: operator with excellent movement. Skills as a pass protector and run.
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: Blocker he'll excel in either zone schemes or systems that
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: ask him to make lateral moving blocks or climbs to
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: the second level of the. Defense Vera tucker fires out
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: of his stands to create movement at the line of.
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: Scrimmage the stains blocks and finishes and wins with very
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: good body. Positioning as a run. Blocker as a starting
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: left tackle for The, trojans he was. Excellent so if
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: you're inclined to leave. Him he was a starting left,
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: tackle he was. Excellent so if you're inclined to leave
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: him at, tackle, Period so typo. Typo Vera tucker is
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: a pats archetype in terms of measurables and, versatility even
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: if he's not a pure people. Mover at the point of,
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: attack he's quietly one of the best prospects in this
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: draft that doesn't get talked about.
- 1:42:11Speaker 2: Enough nailed.
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: It would you say that that is a fair representation
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: of who he is now injuries.
- 1:42:15Speaker 2: Aside, yeah if he's say it, HEALTHY i feel like
- 1:42:17Speaker 2: we will be talking about him as, like, no just
- 1:42:19Speaker 2: a really good.
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: PLAYER i went back and watch the tape him in
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: twenty four right when he, signed when he was, healthy
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: when he signed, here, yep is that the player you?
- 1:42:25Speaker 2: SAW i feel like it was for the most. Part,
- 1:42:27Speaker 2: YEAH i think MAYBE i overrated his nasty a little
- 1:42:30Speaker 2: bit too, Much like maybe not the, finisher but certainly
- 1:42:34Speaker 2: the athlete and the. SMOOTHNESS i, MEAN i just think
- 1:42:37Speaker 2: he's a really high level pass blocker and a guy
- 1:42:39Speaker 2: that can really, move you, know out of his stance
- 1:42:42Speaker 2: and block and on the move up to the second
- 1:42:45Speaker 2: level latterly across the line of scrimmage on zone. Schemes
- 1:42:48Speaker 2: really kind of hit on a lot of those, things
- 1:42:52Speaker 2: besides maybe him kicking inside permanently and the injuries, Obviously
- 1:42:56Speaker 2: BUT i, YEAH i was definitely really high on him
- 1:42:59Speaker 2: as that right up the typo that hopefully we improved
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: on the typos.
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: You had so you had him at. Seventeen you Had
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: Caleb fairley at, sixteen whom My rabel. Took Maybe i'm
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: just having fun with.
- 1:43:09Speaker 2: That i'm not going to ask about.
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: That you want Your Mac.
- 1:43:12Speaker 2: Jones right, up give it to.
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: Me Although jones is a solid, Prospect i'm still not
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: convinced he's worth it for the forty nine ers at.
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: Three remember all that nailed that The alabama product. Has
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: The alabama product has machine like consistency from the pocket
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: and excellent accuracy, timing and does all the little things
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: well that it takes to thrive as a pocket, passer,
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: parentheses pocket, management, movement pre Snapper reed's. Protections the story
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: also goes that jones grasp Of alabama's playbook is so
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: advanced he's teaching the offense new Oc bill O'Brien the so.
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: Offseason if The niners don't Take, jones there's a million
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: reasons why his style as a thrower would make him
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: a perfect long term option For New. England, however as
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: good as his twenty twenty season, was it's hard to
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: imagine That jones will get exponentially better at the pro.
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: Level with his lacking physical, tools we'd be assuming he
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: could master his skill set at THE nfl level in
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: the same vein That Brady manning And breeze, did which
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: is a lofty. Expectation, nevertheless it's hard to ignore the
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: fit for The patriots and The Belichick saban. Connection If
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: jones doesn't go to The San, francisco The pats could
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: position themselves to take him in the first. ROUND i.
- 1:44:14Speaker 8: Not.
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: BAD i would say you nailed. That it's pretty, good not.
- 1:44:17Speaker 2: Bad AND i saw my Guy Mac jones at The
- 1:44:21Speaker 2: Super bowl On Radio. Row, yeah as good to see.
- 1:44:25Speaker 2: Him you did kind of cheat here.
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: THOUGH i went back and. Looked it's a top, fifty
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: but you had fifty one. Players you Split Davis mills
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: And Jamie newman at. Fifty.
- 1:44:31Speaker 2: YEAH i like to do. THAT i like to you,
- 1:44:34Speaker 2: know it's My Jamie.
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: Newman had a week where everybody thought he was the. Guy,
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: Oh cameron mcgron on your big, BOARD i. LIKED i
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: love The patriots at Any, oh, okay one? MORE i
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: know you want to get to the. Females one, more
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: number forty four On Evan lazar's twenty twenty one big. Board,
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: yeah Current. Patriots do you Remember?
- 1:44:50Speaker 2: Barmore?
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: Nope? CLOSE i THOUGHT i had on, There i'll control Left.
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: NO i was scrolling Through. No who very Close Williams
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: milton william projected second third. Round williams is one of
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: the strongest defensive linemen in this class that has an
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: excellent understanding of how to play with leverage and use
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: his hands to defeat. Blocks he'll also absorb contact and
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: anchor against double, teams and has some suddenness to his
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: movements to win with quickness on the. Inside in The patriots,
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: System williams projects a base three to four defensive end
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: that can kick inside to rush the passer on passing.
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: Downs the only knock to his game is thirty one
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: and a half inch arms with a lack of ideal
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: length for work as a two, gapper but he's so
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: strong in his upper body and.
- 1:45:31Speaker 2: Smart with his hands that it can be.
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: Overlooked in a weak defensive line, Class williams is one
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: of the few that consistently stood out on.
- 1:45:39Speaker 2: Tape, okay SO i overrated a probably his like he's
- 1:45:43Speaker 2: not like a space eater LIKE i feel LIKE i
- 1:45:45Speaker 2: kind of described him a little bit as like a
- 1:45:47Speaker 2: block eating defensive, lineman good anchor things like. That probably
- 1:45:51Speaker 2: you were trying to make him fit FOR i probably
- 1:45:54Speaker 2: underrated his pass rush, ability all, Right like he's definitely
- 1:45:57Speaker 2: a much, better more dynamic pass rusher THAN.
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: I you At barmore at twenty nine you your first
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: sentence is the same thing for me With. Barmore significantly
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: lower than most On barbore's fit for The, Patriots but
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: there are things to like about his. Game that's exactly
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: WHERE i was. Was he's not a two, gaffer but
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: he's not an end unless they're willing to throw it way,
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: back like they don't play these kind of defensive, tackles
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden they. Did my hesitation
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: with The alabama defensive tackle is he's a Boomer bus
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: prospect whose preferences to fire off the Ball van you didn't, say,
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: then whose preferences to fire off the, ball to shoot
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: gaps and rush the. Passer barmore is not a two
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: gapper against the, run and his best fit is as
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: a penetrating three. Tech Even Nick saban felt that way About,
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: barmore which is why he didn't play every down For.
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: Alabama barmoer's get off and upper body power our flashy.
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: Qualities if he can commit to playing with better pad
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: level against the, run as we saw in The College Football,
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: playoff he can be a game wrecker In New england.
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: System barmore is likely a situational pass rusher In Adam
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: butler's old. Role is that worth a first round pick
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: For New? England, no and it's certainly not worth. IT
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: a number FIFTEEN i felt the exact. SAME i, REMEMBER
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: i was, like they ended up getting them my later
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: square peg round hole and then he fell and it was,
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: like well the guy's so. Good, yeah you had am
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: and raw a twenty five Loved Tom, monroe you know
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: you had him behind A Mari Rodgers. Trojan, yeah we all,
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: RIGHT i could do this all. Day, well remember this
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: is a good segment for the, summer but you nailed
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: most of.
- 1:47:20Speaker 2: Those we're in the, summer, Man that's. True we already
- 1:47:23Speaker 2: did what we saw a mini. Camp we already took
- 1:47:25Speaker 2: all the.
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: Six weeks of nothing. Right so we we'll have your
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: big boards from twenty twenty. One we can't do last, Year,
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: well we'll do Like Evan lazar's big board per week or.
- 1:47:34Speaker 2: Something last YEAR i was very upset with. Myself did
- 1:47:38Speaker 2: not have a good.
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: Performance do you mean this past one, Yes OH i
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: bad not break in the first. ROUND i Had, ACIS
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: i Had, FRONTY i Had, Morton i'd Crown.
- 1:47:48Speaker 2: OVER i Had achis and Crown, over AND i probably
- 1:47:51Speaker 2: should have Had. RAREDON i should have had Both lomu And.
- 1:47:54Speaker 2: Ardan AND i fed it. Up SEE i didn't. CURSE
- 1:47:57Speaker 2: i jumped a job. Up pissed at myself about that
- 1:48:02Speaker 2: still all these months. Later all, Right so this is
- 1:48:05Speaker 2: an email From. CHRIS i got this email like in
- 1:48:08Speaker 2: different ways three or four, times So i'll just address it,
- 1:48:10Speaker 2: here asking about Mac collins moving to tight, end AND
- 1:48:16Speaker 2: i just kind of feel LIKE. Matc collins already kind
- 1:48:18Speaker 2: of is a tight. End SO i don't really know
- 1:48:20Speaker 2: IF i just think when people miss the position that's
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: next to his, NAME i don't know if it really
- 1:48:26Speaker 2: changes a whole lot about his. Role he's gonna whether
- 1:48:29Speaker 2: he's a joker like a move tight, end or he's
- 1:48:32Speaker 2: a wide receiver that plays a little tight to the.
- 1:48:34Speaker 2: Formation it's, uh you, know it's. Apple it's half to
- 1:48:39Speaker 2: one and doesn't to the. Other oh that's saying IS
- 1:48:42Speaker 2: i think.
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: The thing people miss the hero good of a. Blocker
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: Mac collins is and he, is but he's a really
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: good blocker wide receiver like that scales differently when you
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: move them to tight end and inline hand in the
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: dirts and other.
- 1:48:51Speaker 2: Story so, right like he's not putting his hand in the,
- 1:48:53Speaker 2: dirt but he's still playing from alignment center close to the.
- 1:48:56Speaker 2: Formation he's still Blocking, nickels he's still cracking, in and
- 1:49:00Speaker 2: he's balking up to the linebackers in some of their run.
- 1:49:03Speaker 2: Fits like he's still doing a lot of the things
- 1:49:05Speaker 2: that like a move or a detached tight end would.
- 1:49:07Speaker 2: Do he's just doing it with a wr next to
- 1:49:10Speaker 2: his name is a TE i think that that's one
- 1:49:12Speaker 2: of those THAT i just wouldn't get too caught up
- 1:49:15Speaker 2: in positions like it's where they're playing on the field
- 1:49:17Speaker 2: and the roles they're being asked to execute more so
- 1:49:20Speaker 2: than the.
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: POSITION a little real quick low breaking news here from In.
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: Rapport So Darius smith was released off The eagles reserve
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: retireless and indication he could be open to coming. Back,
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: Okay Pat Edgellarius.
- 1:49:30Speaker 2: SMITH i think he's a fit for what they like to.
- 1:49:33Speaker 2: DO a big, guy you, know can play that four
- 1:49:36Speaker 2: three n, spot rush the pass a little. Bit maybe
- 1:49:38Speaker 2: if he hasn't anything left in the. TANK i don't.
- 1:49:41Speaker 2: Know maybe you have him in for like a private
- 1:49:42Speaker 2: workout first and see what he's got. Left all. RIGHT
- 1:49:46Speaker 2: a couple more emails, HERE a lot of emails too
- 1:49:48Speaker 2: About Kavon thibodeau trade. Ideas so this is From jeff In.
- 1:49:55Speaker 2: Virginia he, says can't you trade a fourth For Kavon
- 1:49:58Speaker 2: thibodeau and then if he signs out WHERE i get
- 1:50:00Speaker 2: to pick back in the draft pick comp. Formula so in,
- 1:50:04Speaker 2: theory as long as he has a good, season, yeah
- 1:50:06Speaker 2: in theory you, could but, one as long as he
- 1:50:10Speaker 2: has a good. Season, two as long as you don't
- 1:50:11Speaker 2: add a ton of external Free.
- 1:50:13Speaker 4: Well.
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: They're big free agency classes are probably they're not going
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: to have more of.
- 1:50:18Speaker 2: THESE i would assume that's. True but if you if
- 1:50:20Speaker 2: you spend on a top free agent and he's a
- 1:50:23Speaker 2: top free, agent then they're going to wash each other
- 1:50:24Speaker 2: out in the compic. Formula so technically you could And
- 1:50:28Speaker 2: Bill belichick did that one hundred million. Times, yeah but
- 1:50:32Speaker 2: the that would be the dad. Slide even if their
- 1:50:35Speaker 2: big big spending is. Done if you went up one, guy,
- 1:50:41Speaker 2: yeah could could ruin. That this Was nate In connecticut
- 1:50:45Speaker 2: who called in and he had to. Go also asked
- 1:50:48Speaker 2: About hollands versus Kaish On. BOOTY uh two wide receiver
- 1:50:52Speaker 2: sets With holland's Kish On. Booty this one is From Sam.
- 1:50:57Speaker 2: Uh what happened To trevion? Blocking was he not heralded
- 1:51:01Speaker 2: as an all time pass blocking prospect coming? Out how
- 1:51:04Speaker 2: does a player go from that to being, subpar especially
- 1:51:06Speaker 2: coming from a big time. PROGRAM i think that's a fair.
- 1:51:09Speaker 2: Question With Trayvon henderson is definitely one of the, best
- 1:51:13Speaker 2: if not the, best pass blocking backs in that. DRAFT i,
- 1:51:17Speaker 2: Mean sean McVay said he was one of the best
- 1:51:18Speaker 2: he's ever. Seen right evaluating prospects At Ohio. STATE i
- 1:51:23Speaker 2: would say it's a combination of two. Things Trayvon henderson
- 1:51:27Speaker 2: adjusting to this, system and we've talked a lot about
- 1:51:30Speaker 2: this offense and how much it puts on running backs
- 1:51:34Speaker 2: where a lot of their, reads not all of, them
- 1:51:36Speaker 2: but a lot of them are dual reads where they're
- 1:51:38Speaker 2: reading off of two different. Players so usually like the
- 1:51:41Speaker 2: inside guy's. Priority so if that player comes and they're
- 1:51:44Speaker 2: going to block that player and leave the outside player.
- 1:51:46Speaker 2: Unblocked but if the inside player drops into coverage and
- 1:51:50Speaker 2: the outside player, comes then now you have to come
- 1:51:53Speaker 2: all the way out outside to that. Player so a
- 1:51:55Speaker 2: lot of it is just post snap reaction and reads
- 1:51:58Speaker 2: and getting that sort of thing figure out as a young,
- 1:52:00Speaker 2: player which we've seen like this is Why James white.
- 1:52:03Speaker 2: Redshirted like we've seen this a million times across The
- 1:52:07Speaker 2: patriots dynasty and over the years with those running. BACKS
- 1:52:10Speaker 2: i would also, say he's not a big, dude, Right
- 1:52:14Speaker 2: he's not Like Remondre stevenson's. Size and one of the
- 1:52:17Speaker 2: things that he talked about last year was at this,
- 1:52:21Speaker 2: level guys have. Moves like at the college, level guys
- 1:52:24Speaker 2: are just running downhill through the gap that they're blitzing,
- 1:52:28Speaker 2: through uh full. Bore at THE, nfl guys have pass rush.
- 1:52:32Speaker 2: Moves so when they he goes to block, somebody you,
- 1:52:35Speaker 2: know guys have. Moves they can, swim they can, spin
- 1:52:38Speaker 2: they can, jab they can you, know, rip they can
- 1:52:40Speaker 2: do all these different things that edge rushers. Do, basically
- 1:52:44Speaker 2: these off ball linebackers are trained there and they're good at.
- 1:52:46Speaker 2: It they're they're good at these different finesse rush moves
- 1:52:50Speaker 2: that can be hard to. Block SO i think a
- 1:52:52Speaker 2: lot of this is just adjusting to things in THE nfl,
- 1:52:55Speaker 2: game where in college these guys are all just kind
- 1:52:57Speaker 2: of bull rushing when they. Blitze in THE, nfl all
- 1:53:00Speaker 2: these guys have bought toolboxes and moves that they can go,
- 1:53:03Speaker 2: to and also the system and the reads within the.
- 1:53:06Speaker 2: System so hopefully he can you, know improve in all
- 1:53:09Speaker 2: those areas and and be a better player for, it you,
- 1:53:12Speaker 2: know this year in terms of the blocking real.
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: Quick Taylor kyle's pointing out On Twitter's Darius smith played
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: For Mike smith In Green bay And.
- 1:53:19Speaker 2: Minnesota good, pull so maybe a guy that they could
- 1:53:22Speaker 2: kick the tires. On this is From. Jake jake is From, Bendigo.
- 1:53:27Speaker 2: AUSTRALIA i LIKE i said that, Right so thanks for
- 1:53:31Speaker 2: listening To, Bendigo bendigo all the way From. Australia SORRY
- 1:53:35Speaker 2: i butchered in the name of the. TOWN i need to.
- 1:53:38Speaker 2: Know this is directed at, You. Alex it Says barth
- 1:53:43Speaker 2: with an explanation point in the subject, LINE i need
- 1:53:46Speaker 2: to know, punters how are they? Looking as we, know
- 1:53:49Speaker 2: the REAL mvp of The Super bowl was The seahawks,
- 1:53:51Speaker 2: punter who Is. AUSTRALIAN i believe so that that's probably
- 1:53:55Speaker 2: why we talked a little bit about the punters, earlier
- 1:53:57Speaker 2: but do you have any reset THE i.
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: Do think that we're gonna get a punter battle in.
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: CAMP i don't know if it's gonna be this kid
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: that's here now somebody, else but it does feel like
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: we're gonna get.
- 1:54:07Speaker 2: ONE i would like that for you because you, know
- 1:54:11Speaker 2: it gives us another talking thing to talk. About WHERE
- 1:54:14Speaker 2: i throw it to you AND i, say all, Right,
- 1:54:16Speaker 2: alex this is the punter.
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: Hour we get a little break during the.
- 1:54:19Speaker 2: Show, yeah one little thing about special teams with a little.
- 1:54:21Speaker 2: Nugget is it interesting to you at all That Romeo
- 1:54:24Speaker 2: dobbs has been returning punts like he's.
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: Not going to BUT i mean more you can, do, Right,
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: YEAH i was little interested by, That LIKE i wonder
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: if you did that In Green. BAY i wonder if that's.
- 1:54:33Speaker 2: Practice, Obviously Marcus jones gonna return punts if he's, Hurt
- 1:54:36Speaker 2: Pop douglas probably the next guy, up Or Eften. CHISHOLM
- 1:54:39Speaker 2: i think you have to go through a lot of
- 1:54:41Speaker 2: layers of debt before you're Throwing Romeo dobs back. There
- 1:54:44Speaker 2: but it's just interesting in.
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: PRACTICE i, mean we have zero indication of who the
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: kick returner is gonna. Be that one's. Good that's gonna
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: be a fun, battle the kick return of.
- 1:54:52Speaker 2: Battle that's a role that all of you special teams.
- 1:54:55Speaker 2: Focus now you tell me that they need to really
- 1:54:59Speaker 2: improve that role last, year do you? Not we had
- 1:55:01Speaker 2: this whole argument about it a couple of months, ago
- 1:55:03Speaker 2: about just starting field positions and the. Math like we've
- 1:55:07Speaker 2: played at the top of the. Show all, right last
- 1:55:09Speaker 2: email here off, Topic BUT i have. TO i have
- 1:55:12Speaker 2: to do it because you, know you're just you love
- 1:55:16Speaker 2: soccer and you love our football AS i say in
- 1:55:19Speaker 2: other parts of the, world and you love what's going on.
- 1:55:22Speaker 2: Here don't say anything bad ABOUT. Fifa we're Getting we
- 1:55:27Speaker 2: love our overlords OF fifa on my credential to get
- 1:55:31Speaker 2: into this. Place and now it says, TENANT i, like
- 1:55:34Speaker 2: we work here and we're Ten, sorry, OKAY i SAID
- 1:55:37Speaker 2: i wasn't gonna say anything bad ABOUT. Fifa we love
- 1:55:40Speaker 2: OUR fifa. Overlords But barton pull and emailed in at
- 1:55:43Speaker 2: the end of. Yesterday was it? Yesterday, yeah, UNFILTERED i
- 1:55:47Speaker 2: like quickly gave a two second take On TEAM usa
- 1:55:50Speaker 2: in The World. CUP i told you THAT i was
- 1:55:52Speaker 2: going to expect to take out of you about. THIS
- 1:55:55Speaker 2: i told you to do some. Homework did you do
- 1:55:57Speaker 2: that homework at?
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: All?
- 1:55:58Speaker 2: Yeah are you doing it right?
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: Now pulling up my?
- 1:56:01Speaker 2: Notes you're pulling up your? Notes are you have? NOTES
- 1:56:04Speaker 2: i have?
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: Notes, Okay so they're obviously a little banged, up which
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: is an ideal going into the. TOURNAMENT i think they
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: should probably win the group they're, in and we'll.
- 1:56:14Speaker 2: See that was better THAN i was expecting you to give. Me,
- 1:56:18Speaker 2: honestly that was that was MORE i really feel. Strongly
- 1:56:24Speaker 2: and this is not because the tournament is. Here oh
- 1:56:26Speaker 2: AND i would start.
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: Geez mind playing on his name now at goal and,
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: Goal Matt, turner because you KNOW i called one of
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: his games once you know his, name when he played
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: a fairfield they came up PLAYED u mass. WHOLE i
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: called the.
- 1:56:37Speaker 2: GAME i would just say That i'd be really disappointed
- 1:56:42Speaker 2: if they don't get out of the. Group i'd be
- 1:56:45Speaker 2: big disappointed if they don't get out of the. Group
- 1:56:47Speaker 2: i'd be. Disappointed you, KNOW i did the small sea
- 1:56:50Speaker 2: concern thing, earlier like high level pissed if they don't
- 1:56:55Speaker 2: make it out of the, group mid level pissed if
- 1:56:57Speaker 2: they don't win a knockout stage. GAME i think that
- 1:56:59Speaker 2: that this group has Been i've been told for a
- 1:57:03Speaker 2: couple of cycles now that this was going to be
- 1:57:06Speaker 2: the group OF usa, soccer led By Christian, polisic that
- 1:57:08Speaker 2: was going to be able to take that next step
- 1:57:12Speaker 2: in international. Soccer if they get grouped or they don't
- 1:57:16Speaker 2: make it out of the, GROUP i will be, apoplectic
- 1:57:20Speaker 2: like you walk, home.
- 1:57:21Speaker 8: Right.
- 1:57:22Speaker 2: Yeah if they get out of the group but lose
- 1:57:24Speaker 2: in the first round of the, Knockout i'll be, disappointed
- 1:57:26Speaker 2: BUT i won't be devastated if they make. It if
- 1:57:29Speaker 2: they win one knockout, Round i'd be really.
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: Excited so they Have paraguay, First, yeah Then, australia Then.
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: Turkeys australia the toughest match.
- 1:57:37Speaker 2: There Paraguay turkey probably the way that it's let's.
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: Say turkey's world ranking is twenty, Second australia's is twenty,
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: seventh so that's, close and Then paraguay paragrase.
- 1:57:51Speaker 2: Forty, YEAH i thought it Was. TURKEY i saw some
- 1:57:54Speaker 2: of the odds and they're pretty flat for this. Group
- 1:57:57Speaker 2: like THE us has the best chance to win the
- 1:57:59Speaker 2: group rank, Sixteenth THE us has the best chance to
- 1:58:03Speaker 2: win the group but it's not by a. Lot it's you,
- 1:58:06Speaker 2: know like they're at like forty and Then turkey's at thirty.
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: Two, advance so they don't even need to, win and
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: Then wild the best.
- 1:58:14Speaker 2: Third place teams advanced because they stupidly expanded the tournament
- 1:58:17Speaker 2: to forty. Eighteen is that new this? Year, yes that's
- 1:58:19Speaker 2: A i've messed. Up but my most important, player obviously
- 1:58:23Speaker 2: the best player on TM usa Is, policious but the
- 1:58:26Speaker 2: most important player for TAM usa Is Tyler. Adams Tyler
- 1:58:29Speaker 2: adams in the, MIDFIELD i would also, say Like wes
- 1:58:32Speaker 2: and McKinney also really important to them as, well But
- 1:58:35Speaker 2: Tyler adams like has to kind of control the middle
- 1:58:38Speaker 2: of the field for. Them THEY i think that's the
- 1:58:40Speaker 2: biggest issue THAT i always see with THE usa soccer
- 1:58:42Speaker 2: is they're athletic and they can play on the wings
- 1:58:44Speaker 2: with a lot of, teams but like the technical stuff
- 1:58:47Speaker 2: that happens in the middle of the, field the passing
- 1:58:49Speaker 2: and the triangles and all that good stuff that really
- 1:58:51Speaker 2: leads to the good scoring chances that all like the
- 1:58:54Speaker 2: good teams can do Like france And, spain THE us
- 1:58:57Speaker 2: have trouble with, that so they they can win it
- 1:58:59Speaker 2: down the. Outside they can cross the ball, in but
- 1:59:03Speaker 2: that's low percentage like kind of, throwing like a fifty
- 1:59:05Speaker 2: to fifty, ball, Right it's a low percentage way to
- 1:59:07Speaker 2: score goals of looking for headers and tips and deflections
- 1:59:10Speaker 2: and stuff like. That they got to play better through
- 1:59:12Speaker 2: the middle of the field and Hopefully Tyler adams can do.
- 1:59:15Speaker 2: That all, right thank you for humoring me for two.
