- 0:44Speaker 1: the faith real, and the word alive. I'm your brother,
- 0:48Speaker 1: I'm your boy, mister his Hop and today we're diving
- 0:52Speaker 1: into the Book of Acts, chapter twenty eight and we're
- 0:57Speaker 1: gonna cover verse one through ten and then these passages.
- 1:01Speaker 1: It's going to be powerful because Paul is just derived
- 1:05Speaker 1: from the storm from a shipwreck that we just looked
- 1:09Speaker 1: at in chapter twenty seven. But the attack is still
- 1:12Speaker 1: not over. He survives at sea but gets bit by
- 1:16Speaker 1: a snake and yet God still preserves him. And this
- 1:21Speaker 1: episode is called Shaking off the Snake Purpose after the Storm.
- 1:27Speaker 1: So we're gonna dive into that, but we want you
- 1:30Speaker 1: to get the most out of each in every episode,
- 1:33Speaker 1: so we invite you to come join us in our

- 2:17Speaker 1: Monday through Saturday at eleven a m. Pacific Standard time.
- 2:22Speaker 1: And in this life chat is your small group community.
- 2:26Speaker 1: We pray for each other. We hold each other accountable,
- 2:30Speaker 1: right because accountability when it's healthy, when it has the
- 2:34Speaker 1: right balance, it helps us stay on that narrow path.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Sometimes our hearts can deceive us, sometimes our thoughts can
- 2:43Speaker 1: deceive us. The Bible tells us, do not lean to
- 2:47Speaker 1: your own understanding. We cannot be led by our emotions, right.
- 2:51Speaker 1: We gotta be led by the word of God. And
- 2:54Speaker 1: so that's one of the purposes of this dicipleship is
- 3:01Speaker 1: to be able to hold each other accountable, to be
- 3:03Speaker 1: able to go to someone and to be vulnerable, to
- 3:06Speaker 1: have integrity, and just to be honest with yourself and
- 3:10Speaker 1: someone who can share the Word of God with you
- 3:14Speaker 1: right where you are. So that's the benefit of joining
- 3:18Speaker 1: us in a life chat. Also, we pray for each other,
- 3:21Speaker 1: encourage each other. It is fellowship right here on the podcast,
- 3:28Speaker 1: and so we hope to see you there. And also
- 3:30Speaker 1: you can log into our website, his hobnation dot com
- 3:34Speaker 1: and get all updates of activities and the things that
- 3:37Speaker 1: we are doing and involved in as an organization. With that,
- 3:44Speaker 1: let's go be for our Father and prayer. Heavenly Father,
- 3:47Speaker 1: thank you for waking us up today. Thank you that
- 3:49Speaker 1: your mercies are new every morning. Oh Lord, we ask
- 3:53Speaker 1: for your mercy to fall upon us. Today. We ask
- 3:56Speaker 1: for the love of God to fill our hearts. Today
- 3:59Speaker 1: we ask for grace upon grace. Lord. We ask that
- 4:02Speaker 1: you give us grace to live for you today. Give
- 4:04Speaker 1: us power to resist temptation. Give us power to walk
- 4:08Speaker 1: in obedience, Give us power to make wives choices. Today,
- 4:12Speaker 1: give us power to bring you glory in our walk,
- 4:16Speaker 1: in our lifestyle, in our talk. And we ask that
- 4:19Speaker 1: you will fight all of our battles, Oh Lord, shield
- 4:22Speaker 1: us from all the fiery darts of the enemy. We
- 4:25Speaker 1: proclaim defeat on our adversary, on every battle front. Every
- 4:30Speaker 1: proclaim this in Jesus' name, ammen. All right? All right,
- 4:40Speaker 1: as I said, we are going to dive into chapter
- 4:48Speaker 1: twenty eight of the Book of Acts, starting from verse
- 4:52Speaker 1: one to verse ten. We're gonna read it and then
- 4:55Speaker 1: we're gonna jump back and break it down. Now chapter
- 4:58Speaker 1: twenty seven, it is all about a shipwreck. If you
- 5:04Speaker 1: missed that episode, I invite you to check out the
- 5:06Speaker 1: replay on the app and also on the website. And
- 5:11Speaker 1: actually this podcast is available on any platform where you
- 5:16Speaker 1: can find and consume your favorite podcast or YouTube, I
- 5:20Speaker 1: Heart Radio, all that good stuff, and you can catch
- 5:25Speaker 1: past episodes lean up to that. But it was a
- 5:28Speaker 1: pretty bad shipwreck. Paul was giving them guidance the direction,
- 5:32Speaker 1: but they decided to go with the experts in the
- 5:36Speaker 1: worldly advice. But they found out that spiritual insight is
- 5:42Speaker 1: more valuable, and so they find themselves washed up on
- 5:48Speaker 1: this island after this horrendous fourteen day episode of this
- 5:55Speaker 1: ship in turmoil. So that's where we're gonna pick it
- 5:59Speaker 1: up first one. Now, when they had escaped, then they
- 6:06Speaker 1: found out that the island was called Melita, and the
- 6:10Speaker 1: natives showed us unusual kindness for the kind for they
- 6:14Speaker 1: kindled a fire and made us all welcome. Because of
- 6:18Speaker 1: the rain that was falling and because of the cold.
- 6:22Speaker 1: But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and
- 6:25Speaker 1: laid them on the fire, a viper came out because
- 6:28Speaker 1: of the heat and fastened on his hand. So when
- 6:33Speaker 1: the natives saw the creature hanging on his hand, they
- 6:36Speaker 1: said to one another, no doubt, this man is a murderer,
- 6:41Speaker 1: whom though they had escaped the sea, yet justice does
- 6:44Speaker 1: not allow to live. But he shook it off. But
- 6:49Speaker 1: he shook off the creature to the fire and suffered
- 6:52Speaker 1: no harm. However, they were expecting that he would swell
- 6:57Speaker 1: up or suddenly fall down dead. But after they had
- 7:01Speaker 1: looked for a long time and saw no harm came
- 7:04Speaker 1: to him, they changed their minds and said this that
- 7:09Speaker 1: he was a god lord. Case g if you noticed
- 7:15Speaker 1: verse seven. In that region there was an estate of
- 7:20Speaker 1: the leading citizens of the island, whose name was Populius,
- 7:28Speaker 1: who received us and entertained us courteously for three days.
- 7:37Speaker 1: And it happened that the father of Papilius lay sick
- 7:41Speaker 1: of a fever and dysentery. Paul went in to him
- 7:48Speaker 1: and prayed, and he laid his hand on him and
- 7:52Speaker 1: healed him. So when this was done, the rest of
- 7:56Speaker 1: those who on the island who had diseases also came
- 8:02Speaker 1: and were healed. They also honored us in many ways.
- 8:07Speaker 1: And when we departed, they provided such things as were necessary. Man,
- 8:16Speaker 1: this is good, this is good. Let's break this down.
- 8:19Speaker 1: This is powerful too, all right. So now verse one.
- 8:26Speaker 1: And when they had escaped and they found out the
- 8:30Speaker 1: island was called Malita, and the natives showed us unusual
- 8:34Speaker 1: kindness where they kindled a fire and made us all
- 8:40Speaker 1: welcome because of the rain that was falling and because
- 8:44Speaker 1: of the cold. Now though they were called natives or
- 8:51Speaker 1: even back then, the Romans had a name for the
- 8:55Speaker 1: native territories that they have conquered. Because remember, the language
- 9:02Speaker 1: barrier was real back then. This was after the Tower
- 9:05Speaker 1: of Babbel, where God confused their language to where they
- 9:10Speaker 1: couldn't understand each other. The Romans had a name. They
- 9:15Speaker 1: would call them Barbarians. If you look it up, the
- 9:19Speaker 1: Romans would call them barbarians, and that would mean that
- 9:23Speaker 1: they were ignorant or unintelligent, as a Roman citizen looks
- 9:28Speaker 1: like you lost another one. But even though they showed
- 9:33Speaker 1: them compassion and they showed them hospitality, despite how the
- 9:43Speaker 1: Romans would treat them or classify them, and I actually,
- 9:49Speaker 1: you know, growing up in the era. I grew up
- 9:51Speaker 1: in the eighties and in the nineties, there was a
- 9:57Speaker 1: cartoon that was popular. It was called Coonan the Barbarian.
- 10:03Speaker 1: So I can't help but to think about that cartoon
- 10:06Speaker 1: when I research and I read things like this in
- 10:11Speaker 1: the Bible. No, no, I just found that interesting to me.
- 10:16Speaker 1: So this is where they got that word barbarian from
- 10:21Speaker 1: the Romans. All right, that's just a little bit of background.
- 10:26Speaker 1: But this is beautiful though. After all the chaos, God
- 10:31Speaker 1: provides kindness. Sometimes after a storm, God shows comfort, and
- 10:37Speaker 1: he does that through people. God can bless you and
- 10:41Speaker 1: give you a gift. Through people, God will comfort us
- 10:44Speaker 1: through the storm. So do not isolate yourself, do not
- 10:49Speaker 1: miss out on the blessing of encountering God's people who
- 10:54Speaker 1: would love on you and who would comfort you. Now
- 10:56Speaker 1: notice this the people of looked down on where the
- 11:02Speaker 1: very people who showed mercy. Never underestimate who God can use.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Even though they were considered barbarians. God was using them,
- 11:13Speaker 1: and God used them to comfort even the Romans. Remember
- 11:17Speaker 1: the Roman soldiers were present. The Roman captain was present
- 11:22Speaker 1: to see all of this. Verse three. But when Paul
- 11:29Speaker 1: had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on
- 11:33Speaker 1: the fire. A viper came out because of the heat
- 11:37Speaker 1: and fastened on his hand. Now, even after surviving the storm,
- 11:46Speaker 1: Paul still faces attacks. Trials do not always end immediately
- 11:53Speaker 1: after you gained the victory. Sometimes the attacks can come
- 11:57Speaker 1: one after another, like a man she gun, just boom,
- 12:02Speaker 1: boom boom. How many of you have been there. I'm
- 12:04Speaker 1: seeing hands raised all over the place in my heart
- 12:07Speaker 1: and I'm raising my hands as well. I know what
- 12:10Speaker 1: it feels like to receive attacks back to back. And
- 12:18Speaker 1: it shows you the Bible doesn't sugarcoat in anything. This
- 12:21Speaker 1: shows you real life, real life situations, real life circumstances.
- 12:27Speaker 1: But we have Paul the Apostle as an example, right,
- 12:32Speaker 1: Paul survived the storm and immediately gets bitten. Sometimes one
- 12:39Speaker 1: battle ends and another one begins. And look where the
- 12:45Speaker 1: snake came from. That snake came from out of the
- 12:50Speaker 1: fire itself. That means pressure reveals hidden attacks. Sometimes pressure
- 12:59Speaker 1: will pre folk certain attacks. There's certain things to move,
- 13:07Speaker 1: and we've all been there, right and blove it. Where
- 13:14Speaker 1: I work I work out, there's a lot of mountains,
- 13:17Speaker 1: you know, we work We live in Las Vegas, so
- 13:19Speaker 1: there's a lot of desert. So sometimes the areas where
- 13:24Speaker 1: I work at are like in the middle of the desert,
- 13:28Speaker 1: out of the middle of nowhere. And my coworker just
- 13:32Speaker 1: last week told me that he was coming out of
- 13:35Speaker 1: one of the buildings and he almost stepped on a rattlesnake.
- 13:39Speaker 1: There's a lot of rattlesnakes out here in the desert.
- 13:43Speaker 1: So pray for y'all, because I don't mess with snakes.
- 13:46Speaker 1: I don't do snakes. Like he almost stepped on it twice,
- 13:50Speaker 1: but by the grace of God, the snake didn't strike.
- 13:54Speaker 1: And so sometimes, yes, snakes can be a part of
- 13:59Speaker 1: the terror territory and the pressure can reveal the attacks.
- 14:06Speaker 1: But let's look at scripture and see what happened after
- 14:12Speaker 1: this attack Amen and verse four. So when the natives
- 14:16Speaker 1: saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to
- 14:22Speaker 1: one another, no doubt this man is a murderer. They came.
- 14:27Speaker 1: They jumped to the first conclusion.
- 14:30Speaker 4: Right.
- 14:32Speaker 1: The people immediately judged Paul based on circumstances, assuming the
- 14:38Speaker 1: snake was divine punishment. Now, how many of you know
- 14:44Speaker 1: that this is not wise, that this is actually a
- 14:50Speaker 1: weakness in some people. People judged Paul instantly. People will
- 15:00Speaker 1: often misread your circumstance, your situation right. Just because something
- 15:06Speaker 1: bad happen doesn't mean God abandon you at all. So
- 15:11Speaker 1: we got to stop letting public opinion define spiritual reality.
- 15:19Speaker 1: I always tell my wife and I tell my children
- 15:21Speaker 1: to get the understanding, do not judge prematurely. And sometimes
- 15:27Speaker 1: you know, they have the habit of doing that. Sometimes
- 15:30Speaker 1: they'll see something and they'll think that's what it is.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Jesus is, do not judge from outward appearance, but wait
- 15:39Speaker 1: for revelation, wait for God. Actually, the Bible tells us
- 15:42Speaker 1: do not judge at all, right, but we are to
- 15:47Speaker 1: inspect fruit. And even at that, God is still the
- 15:51Speaker 1: judge because we can't judge by outward circumstances or situations,
- 15:59Speaker 1: or just because of person is dealing with something, they're
- 16:01Speaker 1: going through something. Amen, be careful before we put our
- 16:07Speaker 1: mouth on a situation, on a person, or on anything,
- 16:15Speaker 1: because God has the last word, He has a final say.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Let me repeat it again, stop letting public opinion defined
- 16:25Speaker 1: spiritual realities. Amen, Verse five through six. But he shook
- 16:32Speaker 1: off the creature into the fire and suffered no harm. Now,
- 16:39Speaker 1: God's supernatural protection over Paul. The Lord preserved him because
- 16:47Speaker 1: his assignment was not finished. And even in the Bible
- 16:53Speaker 1: it tells us, I believe it's in the Gospel of Matthew.
- 16:56Speaker 1: I can't think of the address. If you know what
- 16:58Speaker 1: posts it in a life chat it says where the
- 17:02Speaker 1: believers will drink deadly poison, that we would go through
- 17:07Speaker 1: a lot of situations but not be harmed, that we
- 17:12Speaker 1: would be attacked, like there's a supernatural protection and grace
- 17:15Speaker 1: upon us where these things will not harm us. It's says,
- 17:21Speaker 1: these signs will follow us, we will cast out devils,
- 17:23Speaker 1: we will heal the sick, raise the dead, and and look,
- 17:28Speaker 1: we're gonna look at that in this chapter. I'm excited
- 17:31Speaker 1: to see it. Now, let's go to the heart of
- 17:39Speaker 1: the message. Right here, Paul shook it off. We need
- 17:48Speaker 1: to be like Paul. We need to ask for the
- 17:51Speaker 1: grace of God to be able to shake off all
- 17:55Speaker 1: the attacks. And that would be more of a witness
- 18:00Speaker 1: if we're able to do so, not having an easy life,
- 18:05Speaker 1: not having the perfect situation or circumstance, when we go
- 18:09Speaker 1: through the fire and we're able to shake it off,
- 18:12Speaker 1: when people are expecting the worst. That is a better
- 18:19Speaker 1: witness than anything else. Paul did not panic. Paul did
- 18:24Speaker 1: not show any fear. He just shook it off and
- 18:28Speaker 1: the people waited for him to die, basically, but he
- 18:34Speaker 1: didn't hear this Spiritually, everything that attacks you isn't authorized
- 18:42Speaker 1: to destroy you. Shake it off and keep it pushing.
- 18:47Speaker 1: Hey man, let me say that again. Everything that attacks
- 18:51Speaker 1: you is not authorized to destroy you. I've been through attacks.
- 18:58Speaker 1: The enemy knows my weakness is. My weakness has always
- 19:02Speaker 1: been women. I was a womanizer. Well, I was like
- 19:07Speaker 1: a lover boy, right. It wasn't that I wanted to
- 19:10Speaker 1: be a dog or a player or a pimp. I
- 19:14Speaker 1: was quick to fall in love. But I would react
- 19:17Speaker 1: out of hurt because the girl would end up cheating
- 19:21Speaker 1: on me. You know what I mean. She'll end up
- 19:23Speaker 1: stepping out on me, and so I'm like to recover.
- 19:26Speaker 1: That's when I go out and do my dirt. And
- 19:30Speaker 1: I'm talking about before christ I'm not that anymore, but
- 19:37Speaker 1: he sent females in the past to try to destroy
- 19:41Speaker 1: my life. Sad to say, as a Christian, I got
- 19:45Speaker 1: saved at the age of fifteen, Right, that's a long
- 19:50Speaker 1: time to especially if you're young, you're just into the
- 19:55Speaker 1: faith and you really don't have a church that support
- 19:58Speaker 1: like we do in a life chat acountability support. I
- 20:01Speaker 1: really didn't have the church around me, so I fell
- 20:05Speaker 1: into sexual morality. People looking back at it, those were
- 20:10Speaker 1: attacks and assignments to distract me or to throw me
- 20:15Speaker 1: off spiritually, like all of a sudden when I was
- 20:20Speaker 1: twelve years old. Leading up to that, I couldn't get
- 20:23Speaker 1: a girlfriend. I couldn't buy a girlfriend if I had
- 20:26Speaker 1: all the money in the world. But as soon as
- 20:28Speaker 1: I get saved, the women came out of the woodworks.
- 20:33Speaker 4: Right.
- 20:34Speaker 1: That was spiritual attack. Now, you know, looking back years
- 20:43Speaker 1: later and having discern it, but praise God that these
- 20:47Speaker 1: attacks were not authorized to destroy me. I almost got destroyed,
- 20:51Speaker 1: I'll be honest, But God was gracious enough to allow me,
- 20:57Speaker 1: and I finally learned turned in my heart never to
- 21:01Speaker 1: go back a man Verse seven through age. In that region,
- 21:10Speaker 1: there was an estate of the leading citizens of the island,
- 21:15Speaker 1: whose name was Papilious. Now God used Paul mightily in Malita.
- 21:23Speaker 1: After the storm and the snake bite, there was a
- 21:29Speaker 1: ministry opportunity that opened up for Paul. The apostle. Now
- 21:35Speaker 1: look at God, the prisoner, the shipwreck survivor the snake
- 21:41Speaker 1: bitten man. Right, and you break all that down. It's
- 21:46Speaker 1: like a T shirt right there.
- 21:48Speaker 4: Right.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Paul was the prisoner, but he took leadership in this situation.
- 21:54Speaker 1: He became the pastor God supernaturally deserve them through the
- 22:01Speaker 1: shipwreck in chapter twenty seven, or whatever situation and circumstance
- 22:07Speaker 1: you're in, seek the face of God. Love it. The
- 22:12Speaker 1: things that I've been through, there is no way that
- 22:14Speaker 1: I should still be on this earth. God has supernaturally
- 22:19Speaker 1: you preserved me. There's no way that I should be
- 22:22Speaker 1: out of my mind somewhere. But I praise God and
- 22:26Speaker 1: I thank them for preserving me in my situation in circumstance.
- 22:33Speaker 1: And Paul was snake bitten, but yet he survived because
- 22:39Speaker 1: the vessel God used to heal others. Your pain doesn't
- 22:47Speaker 1: cancel purpose. Sometimes ministry happens after survival. Sometimes your situation
- 22:56Speaker 1: and your pain is not for you, it's for somebody else.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Is so that you can minister to others who are
- 23:04Speaker 1: going through the same thing, others who are sinking under
- 23:08Speaker 1: the water. And you came through the waters, and so
- 23:13Speaker 1: you reach out your hand to bring them up so
- 23:16Speaker 1: they can catch a breath. And man, God is good. Normally,
- 23:22Speaker 1: when you go through a situation and gain the victory,
- 23:26Speaker 1: you have authority over it and you're able to minister
- 23:29Speaker 1: to others. It's amazing how our Father works hallelujah, verse eight.
- 23:38Speaker 1: And it happened that the father of Papilius lay sick
- 23:43Speaker 1: of the fever of dysentery. Paul went in to him
- 23:48Speaker 1: and prayed. Now this is the simplicity and power of prayer.
- 23:57Speaker 1: In laying on of hands, right noticed Paul's response. He
- 24:03Speaker 1: prayed first. It was not performance, it was not hype.
- 24:09Speaker 1: It was prayer that led to the healing. Healing followed
- 24:17Speaker 1: after that. Power comes from relationship with God, not from
- 24:23Speaker 1: religious experience. Paul was a man of prayer, a mighty
- 24:28Speaker 1: man of prayer. And there's no way he would have
- 24:31Speaker 1: been able to survive this and to do the things
- 24:35Speaker 1: that he did if he was not a praying man. Hallelujah,
- 24:44Speaker 1: now nine through ten. So when this was done, the
- 24:50Speaker 1: rest of those on the island who had diseases also
- 24:55Speaker 1: came and were healed. Now the ministry unblita because of shipwreck,
- 25:03Speaker 1: God turned a shipwreck into revival. God is able to
- 25:13Speaker 1: take what the enemy meant for evil and turn it
- 25:16Speaker 1: around for good. Now, think of the situation in your
- 25:22Speaker 1: life that you thought was shipwreck, or maybe not even
- 25:26Speaker 1: thought it was a shipwrack. Think of the times in
- 25:31Speaker 1: your life or maybe you're experiencing it right now where
- 25:36Speaker 1: the things in your life were breaking up and destroyed.
- 25:41Speaker 1: The good news is that God is leading. This is
- 25:45Speaker 1: going to lead into revival. Think of all the people
- 25:49Speaker 1: right now. You only got one or two responses to
- 25:53Speaker 1: what we're dealing with today. The way our economy is headed. Yes,
- 26:00Speaker 1: it is scary and it can be scary. People are
- 26:04Speaker 1: getting laid off left and right. People don't know where
- 26:09Speaker 1: their next job is gonna come from. They don't know
- 26:11Speaker 1: where their next meal is gonna come from. People are
- 26:19Speaker 1: losing their house, they're going into foreclosure. People are losing
- 26:24Speaker 1: their cars and their vehicles. Gas prices are completely high.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Belove it all. These are conditions ripe for revival. We
- 26:39Speaker 1: need to get out there and preach more than we've
