- 0:16Welcome to PCR Sports. Good evening, I'm Dip Ham and
- 0:19welcome to the start of your sporting weekend on PCR Sports
- 0:22with myself and Nilesh this evening.
- 0:25Thank you for joining us and if it's your first time, a very
- 0:27warm welcome to you. Got a cracking show lined up for
- 0:30you this evening? We've got Marco Cementer in from
- 0:32Team Cementer, who organises local football matches and
- 0:35raises tons of money for charity.
- 0:37It's a fascinating story and an incredible achievement over the
- 0:40last decade or so also. So we'll be hearing from Marco
- 0:43in a short while. But as always, let's start the
- 0:45show with this week's headlines. And over to Nilesh.
- 0:48Thanks. Good evening.
- 0:49Thank you, Dipam. Yeah, good to be back again this
- 0:52week. And the sun is shining.
- 0:54And I'm going to start with some ice hockey news, actually.
- 0:56Great Britain ice hockey legend Ashley Tate will lead
- 0:59Peterborough Phantoms in a new era at Planet Ice.
- 1:02Tate, 49, will replace Slava Kulikov, who had been head coach
- 1:07at The Phantoms for 11 seasons before leaving to join National
- 1:11League rivals Sheffield Steel Dogs for the 2526 season.
- 1:16Tate's most recent coaching post, an associate coach, was as
- 1:20an associate coach with the Berkshire Bees last term.
- 1:24Moving on to cricket and Peterborough, Town were knocked
- 1:27off the top of Northants Premier Division table through no fault
- 1:30of their own last Saturday. Town were denied A predictable
- 1:34win by the weather and stubborn strugglers Kislingburg
- 1:37Temperance at Bretton Gate, while reigning champions Finden
- 1:41were rushing to a huge win over Geddington.
- 1:43Finden have now assumed top spot after a perfect day for them as
- 1:48third placed Oundle were also thwarted by heavy rain in their
- 1:52fixture against Old Northamptonians at Milton Rd.
- 1:56Finden gained 16 points on Town and 12 points on Oundle, whose
- 2:00games were eventually were both eventually abandoned.
- 2:04The Town suffered because they failed to bowl next to bottom
- 2:07Kislingbury out after inserting them on a blame free batting
- 2:11surface. The visitors occupied the full
- 2:1350 overs, totalling 180 for eight, and although Town made a
- 2:19rollicking reply of 111 for two in just 15 overs, the expected
- 2:24heavy rain came and forced an early finish.
- 2:28It's a big weekend for Peterborough Town though, and
- 2:30that starts tomorrow. With their big game at Oundle
- 2:33Town, who are eight points clear of their hosts Oundle were
- 2:37probably not far from securing a 25 point return and edging ahead
- 2:42of their neighbors yesterday. Oh sorry, last Saturday when the
- 2:45weather gods intervened and it's certainly been busy in the
- 2:49transfer market at Peterborough United.
- 2:52This week they made a transfer deadline day signing from
- 2:56Switzerland. Declan Frith, a 23 year old
- 2:59winger, has signed a three-year contract after Posh agreed a
- 3:02substantial fee with Swiss side FC Tune.
- 3:06Frith, a former Chelsea and Villa youngster, helped Tune to
- 3:11promotion to the Swiss top flight last season.
- 3:14He has pig shoes to fill as he will take the number 11 shirt
- 3:17worn with distinction by Kwame Poku at the Western Homes
- 3:21Stadium. Poku will leave London Road this
- 3:23summer after the expiry of his contract.
- 3:26Frith is the second capture of the summer after fellow forward
- 3:30Kiral Lisby, who moved to London Road from Braintree at the end
- 3:35of May and then off the field. From a coaching perspective,
- 3:40Posh coach Dale Tongue has left London Road to join League One
- 3:43rivals Rotherham United. The former Rotherham player has
- 3:47joined his old club as assistant manager after compensation fee
- 3:51has was agreed. Posh have wasted no time though
- 3:54in signing his replacement and it's a familiar name for Posh
- 3:58fans. Kevin Russell will return to the
- 4:00club this summer and link up ahead of pre season training
- 4:03which starts later this month, and Posh Women.
- 4:08They've also been busy in the transfer window as well.
- 4:12Seven players though from the Peterborough United women's
- 4:14squad have left the club. Winger Katie Middleton, Ecuador
- 4:18international Martin Aguerre, Hannah Dorburn, Alex O'Neill,
- 4:22Macey Bannerman, Lloyd, Ella Bale and Jessica Abrantis have
- 4:27all departed a team that finished third in National
- 4:30Midlands Division One last season.
- 4:33Aguerre has returned to South America, while Bale and Abrantis
- 4:37have taken U Football scholarships in the United
- 4:39States O. Following those departures, OSHA
- 4:43made their first signing of the summer and that's defender Anna
- 4:46Pitt, 23 years old, who trained with Posh towards the end of
- 4:50last season after arriving from the US to continue her education
- 4:55and footballing journey. Posh are expected to make more
- 4:58signings as well as confirm the players who are staying to have
- 5:01another crack at the National Midlands Division One in the
- 5:042520 sixth season and Peterborough Sports.
- 5:09They've also been busy in the transfer market.
- 5:12Sports have signed a former Peterborough United left back
- 5:15Aaron Powell. The Academy graduate didn't make
- 5:18a senior appearance for Posh, but he impressed during a loan
- 5:21spell at Welling, King's Lynn and last season at Kettering
- 5:25Town. It's the second signing of the
- 5:27summer for Sports, who have also picked up midfielder Sam
- 5:31Mcclintock, another player who spent last season at Kettering.
- 5:36In a little bit of more news, don't forget it's the
- 5:39Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival next Saturday.
- 5:42Racing starts at 10:00 all the way through to around late
- 5:45afternoon between 4:00 and 5:00 and it's a free event to attend.
- 5:49Go down, it's at the Peterborough Rowing Lake and
- 5:51you'll be able to take advantage of watching some dragon boat
- 5:54action next Saturday. And finally, for for the younger
- 5:59children amongst us, activate at the Central Park takes place
- 6:03tomorrow starting at 11 AM through till 3:00 PM at Central
- 6:07Park in Peterborough. You can pick up a map, find out
- 6:10and have a go at different sports and healthy activities
- 6:13and then collect stickers and receive a reward at the end.
- 6:17And it's a family friendly free event most importantly.
- 6:21So with the weather looking good this weekend, do pop down to
- 6:23Central Park in Peterborough and that's all starting at 11 AM.
- 6:28And those are your headlines this week, Depam.
- 6:30Thank you, Lewis. Lots going on in the city.
- 6:32The thing I love about some of the good weather is that there's
- 6:34a lot of outdoor activities. You've got a lot of fun
- 6:36activities happening. People can try out new sports,
- 6:39new activities. It's it's a great time of year
- 6:41to to sort of have a go at things, isn't?
- 6:43It yeah, compared to last weekend where the rain was
- 6:45certainly the winner with many outdoor sports.
- 6:47But yeah, there is this opportunity down at Central Park
- 6:49tomorrow for children aged 7 to 14 to come down, try out new
- 6:54activities, be active and see if a particular sport takes your
- 6:58interest and you never know where it might lead you.
- 7:00And it's always key, isn't it in, you know, we're close to to
- 7:03many clubs who are at the sort of grassroots level in the city
- 7:07and having that pathway for kids and introducing kids to sport to
- 7:11kind of keep the future of certain sports and clubs alive
- 7:13is important. It certainly is, yeah.
- 7:14Many will think that sport may be inaccessible due to costs,
- 7:18certain clubs thinking it's not for them.
- 7:20But activities like this down at Central Park tomorrow will make
- 7:23a huge difference and hopefully be well attended and certainly
- 7:27the weather will be playing ball and it's now your opportunity to
- 7:30go down and try some and take your children, nieces, nephews,
- 7:33grandchildren, whoever it may be, get down there and take part
- 7:37in the activity. Pull them away from your games
- 7:38console and get them there potentially.
- 7:40So brilliant. Thank you, Nilesh, as always.
- 7:43Right, Let's just take a short break.
- 7:45And after the break, we'll be speaking to Marco Cementer, who
- 7:47represents Team Cementer, who's done some wonderful work for
- 7:51many, many charities by raising thousands and thousands of
- 7:53pounds through arranging local football matching.

- 9:44You're listening to PCR sports. Welcome back to the PCR Sports
- 9:57Show with myself, Dipam and Nilesh this week and we're in
- 10:00the company of Marco Cementer, who's joined us for his 2nd
- 10:03appearance. He was here a couple of years
- 10:05ago to tell his his story about how he set up a team cementer to
- 10:10raise money for good causes and charities through organizing
- 10:14football matches. And he's back to give us an
- 10:16update on how that's progressing.
- 10:17And he's hit a very significant milestone, which we'll hear
- 10:21about in a short while. Good evening, Marco.
- 10:24How are you? Yeah, good.
- 10:25Thank you. Thank you for having me on
- 10:26again. No pleasure.
- 10:26It's always great to to have you on and thank you.
- 10:29You know, the work that you're doing is absolutely inspiring
- 10:31and and and fascinating and and, and it is wonderful what you've
- 10:34what you've achieved. So, but just got to recap for
- 10:37those that perhaps hearing your story for the first time or
- 10:40listening to you for the first time, tell us your story and how
- 10:42this all started. Yeah, so it started when my mum
- 10:46sadly passed away and my mum and dad always used to come to the
- 10:50games and watch. So you know, she's come to, you
- 10:52know, football such. So yeah, when she passed away I
- 10:56want to do something in her memory.
- 10:57So the plan was 5 charity games and a £500 target and that's
- 11:02that's what the aim was. But we hit that quite quickly
- 11:05and then it sort of snowballed and here we are 10 years later,
- 11:09still still going still. Doing it fantastic and we might
- 11:12as well just break the news early.
- 11:14But you were at £65,000 when you joined us last time, let's say a
- 11:17couple of years ago. Where are you now?
- 11:19Because you've you've smashed the barrier, haven't you?
- 11:21Yeah, so a big milestone. So we've just hit 100,000 lbs,
- 11:24which is incredible. Yeah, support from everyone's
- 11:27been been amazing. It's been a really good team
- 11:30effort. Which is amazing to to to go
- 11:32from a goal of £500 and five games, yeah, to 100,000 lbs and,
- 11:37and how many games is? It so yeah, we're on 306 at the
- 11:40moment so yeah, we hit the 300 game mark as well, which is
- 11:44which is really good. So yeah, hundred 100 grand, 10
- 11:46years and 300 games so which is absolutely incredible.
- 11:52It's been really incredible, yeah.
- 11:53Yeah, absolutely brilliant. And just going into the detail
- 11:56of that and all this and how does it all work?
- 11:58How does it all hang together? And obviously, I imagine in the
- 12:01early days you you just perhaps found a park pitch and thought,
- 12:04let's get a bunch of mates together and play a few games.
- 12:06But I imagine it's taken a lot more organization and
- 12:08administration since then. Yeah, so initially it was we had
- 12:11to borrow kits, borrow footballs.
- 12:14Yeah, it's just a mixed match of my old team mates and friends,
- 12:18etcetera. And then like I said, it's sort
- 12:21of snowballed where more and more old team mates got
- 12:23involved, teachers from old school friends, friends from
- 12:27work. And it's just all these people
- 12:29are people that have sort of met through my life, really.
- 12:31And they've they've wanted to be involved.
- 12:33And yeah, it's just crazy really, how the people that
- 12:37started it, their their children are now playing which which to
- 12:41me, I sometimes figure how old I am because when they first asked
- 12:44me, can my son play your game? And I'm like, well, we've got to
- 12:47be careful. We don't want anyone getting
- 12:48hurt. And then they tell me he's 23.
- 12:50I think he'll be all right. Like so.
- 12:52But yeah, we've had quite a few father and sons now and three
- 12:55generations, brothers, partners that have played in the same
- 12:58team. So yeah, it's, it's, I do think
- 13:01one day I should write all these different stories and, and
- 13:04stuff, you know, because there's been lots of really, really
- 13:07special memories. We've done memorial games for
- 13:09people that suddenly passed away.
- 13:10And again, you know, the support for those games has always been
- 13:13incredible. So yeah, it's a really good
- 13:15team, team effort. Amazing and and how many players
- 13:18have you got in the team Cementer squad now then?
- 13:20Well, we get we're getting close to 900 now.
- 13:23It'd be lovely to get 1000. Maybe that's another milestone.
- 13:26And Ganesh, you need to get your Vicks on the pump's already,
- 13:29already played All very well, though.
- 13:31Now you did brilliant. Yeah.
- 13:33So. But that variety goes from, you
- 13:36know, 17 all the way to, I think our oldest players 72.
- 13:39So it's a it's a real spectrum of players.
- 13:42But it's, like I said, described as a bit like a posh kick
- 13:46around. It's just people getting
- 13:47together. Sometimes they've never met.
- 13:49But through football, they've made new friends and, you know,
- 13:52a bit of exercise, raised a bit of money and play, play the game
- 13:55you love. So absolutely yes, it seems to.
- 13:57Work. And then there's probably people
- 13:58like me who are kind of at an age where football doesn't
- 14:01really feature anymore, but trying to relive classical class
- 14:04glories and just, you know, just that kind of feeling of walking
- 14:07back onto a pitch and. And I'm going to kick about it.
- 14:09Yeah, that in itself is, is is a breakthrough, isn't it?
- 14:11Yeah, and it's been lovely the comments, you know, people like
- 14:13saying that because, you know, you get like the veterans leave
- 14:16at the I, you know, I'm 45 now and I'm most of them are 35,
- 14:21just who are still playing regular football.
- 14:24So anyone really over the age of 40, unless you're in really good
- 14:27shape, it's it's very difficult. There's no over really over 50s
- 14:31leagues. The next step is walking
- 14:32football, which again, you've got to be over 50.
- 14:33So this sort of bridges that gap where people in between can play
- 14:36as well. And yeah, yeah, people have come
- 14:39out for retirement and just seeing old rivals play on the
- 14:43same team together and, you know, it's, it's yeah.
- 14:46For me, it's been, it's been really special to play with old
- 14:49team mates. Some of them I've known 20
- 14:52years, some I've known recently, some I've met along the way.
- 14:55So yeah, no, it's just a it's been really, really cool.
- 14:58It's good to continue that that that legacy as you say, because
- 15:02you know, this city, as we know, has got a fantastic grassroots
- 15:04Football League in a setup, haven't they?
- 15:07And hasn't it? And like you say, people who are
- 15:09rivals, perhaps in in their kind of playing days, are now best of
- 15:14friends and playing on the same side.
- 15:16Yeah, yeah. So there's been loads of really,
- 15:19you know, really cool memories from that.
- 15:21You know, people are like, I can't believe he's playing and
- 15:23then they played. He's all right, actually, you
- 15:25know, like it's still got it. That's still got it.
- 15:27Yeah. So.
- 15:28But yeah, like I said, when I've got enough worked out, now I've
- 15:31got enough for a father and son game, which I'm definitely going
- 15:33to do because I think, yeah, we've had a couple, especially
- 15:36when I did my game at Posh and people said the first time I
- 15:38played my son was at Posh. Like for them it's a really
- 15:41special memory. So that's what it's all about,
- 15:43people enjoying it and and sort of making the memories.
- 15:46That's, you know, that's part of part of all this as well,
- 15:48really. Absolutely.
- 15:49Let's, I mean, you mentioned Posh there.
- 15:51So you've have actually had played, you've played games at
- 15:53London Road, at PT United. Yeah.
- 15:54Tell me more. Tell us all.
- 15:55Tell us more about those. Yes, it start off with one game
- 15:59and obviously the the pitch fees are quite high.
- 16:02So I thought am I going to get the interest because I want to
- 16:05put a bit on top so we make a bit of money for charity
- 16:06obviously. Well anyway I had maybe 30
- 16:10people in reserve. So I thought well I can
- 16:11obviously do more than one game. And then I did three games and
- 16:14again another 30 people in reserve.
- 16:16Last year I did 5, still more in reserve.
- 16:19So this year I thought, can I do 7, which is over 150 people?
- 16:24And yeah, I still have people sparing.
- 16:27It was just a really epic day of football with people from past
- 16:31and present, you know, all coming together.
- 16:33I had even had one game that's dedicated to all The Walking
- 16:36footballs to play, 11 aside. So yeah, we played it APG who
- 16:41had a brought a team like a local company brought a couple
- 16:43of teams and sons charity team came down and you know, sort of
- 16:47supported. So yeah, it was a really, really
- 16:49epic day. I'm still not going to recovered
- 16:51yet, but yeah, you played in multiple games.
- 16:54Longer to recover now, doesn't it?
- 16:56It does. It had 100%.
- 16:57Yeah, yeah, it's like a month recovery.
- 17:00But how many of the seven games did you play?
- 17:02Well, I kind of, I played, I played six like on I haven't had
- 17:07a little made sure I, I, you know, sort of played as much as
- 17:09I could in those. And then I wasn't due to play in
- 17:12the seventh one, but someone got injured so I had to, I had to go
- 17:15on there as well. But I wasn't very mobile.
- 17:17And yeah, if you see any footage, it looks like it's been
- 17:20slowed down 'cause I wasn't moving very quickly.
- 17:22Well, you showed us your goal before the show started.
- 17:25Yeah, probably pretty special. A lob.
- 17:26Lob the keeper from the edge of the area.
- 17:28Yeah, yeah, like I said, I wasn't supposed to be playing
- 17:31that game, so to come on and score it was, it was a bonus.
- 17:33But yeah, I don't score many of those any goals these days for
- 17:37many, but so it's always special, especially at Posh.
- 17:40So yeah, it was yeah, really, really, really good day and
- 17:43everyone seemed to enjoy it. So that's the main thing.
- 17:45And do you think the game at Posh will become an annual
- 17:47feature now or are you hoping? Yeah, I think like I said, three
- 17:50years we've been doing and now and I've already got people
- 17:53requesting can I play next year? And there's people who didn't
- 17:56play this year that want to play.
- 17:56So I think if we've still got the interest and we can still
- 18:00make money for charity, then why not?
- 18:02My legs still work, So yeah. Fantastic.
- 18:06So and obviously they say Posh are the other kind of speciality
- 18:09games, but away from when you have your what you call your
- 18:12regular games, where are they played?
- 18:13How do you realize those? They're all like Yaxley, Yaxley
- 18:16FC, there's. No shabby place on it.
- 18:18No, that's a, that's a lovely pitch.
- 18:20Yeah. And it's all weather as well,
- 18:21which is nice. It's obviously got the bar and
- 18:24the facilities there. And yeah, it's just, you know,
- 18:27people can't blame about bobbling, bobbling footballs
- 18:29when they shoot and things. But no, it's a really lovely
- 18:32venue. They've been really kind and,
- 18:34you know, supportive and always give discounted rates so we can
- 18:38make as much as we can. And yeah, it's a nice location.
- 18:41It's local to where? Which all the players are local.
- 18:44Yeah. So it just, it just works
- 18:45really. And this and just to remind the
- 18:48listener as well, what you do with Team Cementer isn't your
- 18:52job. This is just a hobby or
- 18:54something you do aside from your full time job around family and
- 18:57all the other commitments that we all have.
- 18:59Yeah, like I said, most of the planning and stuff I do it work
- 19:04lunch or and all the games are generally when my girls are
- 19:07asleep so that it doesn't affect family time in that sense.
- 19:10So it's rare we have weekend games as well.
- 19:14It's only on the big milestone games.
- 19:15So yeah, I'll try and make sure it's balanced.
- 19:18Yeah, absolutely brilliant. And what nights do you normally
- 19:21play your games? It's normally on Friday nights,
- 19:25so yeah, I've got a couple more coming up.
- 19:27I've got one this evening and then a couple more through July.
- 19:30So yeah, we're still ticking along.
- 19:33Exactly. And so how do you kind of
- 19:35schedule the matches then? And bear in mind you have got a
- 19:39big squad like say 900 odd people to call upon, but how do
- 19:42you schedule them in terms of, you know, recovery time or
- 19:46availability of pitches, for example?
- 19:48Yes, it must be quite a a juggle really.
- 19:50Yeah, it's basically works around with availability.
- 19:53You know, I say to you actually when you've got a free date, let
- 19:55me know. And then it's kind of first,
- 19:57first come, first served to sort of post it out.
- 19:59And we've got people who are regulars and then there'll be
- 20:02people who play every when they can or they're not working and
- 20:05things like that. So yeah.
- 20:06And then when I get the list of players, I try and balance it
- 20:09best I can. Sometimes we need to swap around
- 20:10at half time but. Yeah, it's, it's normally, yeah.
- 20:14And he actually is quite an in demand facility as well, isn't?
- 20:16It, it is. And that's that's why the game
- 20:17just kind of slowed down a little bit just because it used
- 20:19to be weekly. But yeah, you've got to
- 20:21understand that they're business and you know, they've got at the
- 20:24end of the day. So I just appreciate them giving
- 20:26me the pitch when they can and. It takes you longer to recover
- 20:28anyway. It has, yeah.
- 20:30Yeah, really. I could do weekly but I need a a
- 20:33month between each. Me six months when I'd like.
- 20:35To play. So he's telling me, yeah.
- 20:37So it's, yeah, I can certainly relate to that Marco.
- 20:41So in terms obviously you've got a group of players who are
- 20:44playing, you know what, there's obviously great commitment from
- 20:48from from the group of players and something like this, you
- 20:52know, whilst you're kind of leading it, there's a whole team
- 20:55effort behind it all isn't? It 100% and I always say this, I
- 20:58say that I could organise the game, I could book the refs, I
- 21:01could book the pitches. So if no one turns out it
- 21:04doesn't happen. So you know, there's been
- 21:06amazing support people from there've been some loads of
- 21:08people drawn along the way, but there's been lots of started
- 21:10from the game, one where we borrowed the kit, random kit and
- 21:13they've been here and they're still still, you know, still
- 21:16playing. So the support support has been
- 21:18incredible from everyone really. You know, I've got shouts, my
- 21:22wife Amy and my girls, there's Belle and Sienna there.
- 21:25They're my biggest supporters. They've they've been brilliant.
- 21:29It was really special for me to play in the same team as my dad
- 21:31and brothers. We've never played in a game
- 21:32that's happened, but local companies have been brilliant.
- 21:36You guys support, you know, local businesses.
- 21:39So many people have supported, whether have sponsored, whether
- 21:42have donated, whether they've played.
- 21:44It's there's so many people. I just want to thank everyone
- 21:47for the support so far because it is, it is a team effort and
- 21:51people have done other stuff. People have done, you know, 24
- 21:54hour walks, people have done London marathons.
- 21:56You know, it's, it's, it's branching out, people doing
- 21:59other things now to sort of help team cement to raise funds.
- 22:01So it is a massive team effort. Fantastic, good stuff, right?
- 22:04We'll take a short break there, but we will talk about the
- 22:06fundraising when we come back and, and, and the good causes
- 22:09that you have raised money for and, and the, and the ways that
- 22:12you've raised money as well, which has been absolutely
- 22:14amazing. So stay tuned.

- 25:13So in theory you can listen to us anywhere in the world and
- 25:16then people do. We've had feedback that people
- 25:18have listened to us while they're on holiday, which is
- 25:20absolutely amazing. So back to this evening's guest,
- 25:23Marco Cementer, who's joined us for your second time on on our
- 25:27show. He's leading Team Cementer and
- 25:29running charity matches in the city, the charity football
- 25:32matches and raising enormous amounts of money.
- 25:34He's currently smashed through the £100,000 barrier and played
- 25:38just over 300 matches, 306 to be precise, and has got a match
- 25:42this evening as well. So Marco, that's a phenomenal
- 25:46amount of money to raise £100,000.
- 25:49It's absolutely incredible. You started off with an ambition
- 25:52of five matches and 500 lbs and here we are now.
- 25:56It's almost become second nature to you and we're talking
- 25:58telephone number amounts now, so it's incredible.
- 26:02So I mean, first of all, fantastic, well done.
- 26:05If we haven't said it already, thank you.
- 26:08Touching on the charity side, you've supported numerous
- 26:11charities. How do you sort of select the
- 26:14charities? How do you allocate the funds?
- 26:16How does that all work? Because obviously that that will
- 26:18take a little bit of working out as well.
- 26:19Yeah. So started off with charities
- 26:22that in my family etcetera supported and then we'd I got to
- 26:27the point where people who sponsored the game, I let them
- 26:30pick the charity because obviously they're sponsored from
- 26:32the game. So it's a charity that they may
- 26:33support. And then we've had some memorial
- 26:35games where people just suddenly passed away for, you know,
- 26:38different, different reasons. So we've supported those
- 26:41charities. So yeah, so we're about, I think
- 26:43we're about 66 different charities, but it'd be, it'd be
- 26:45lovely to get to 1 day to 100 different charities.
- 26:48There's another milestone and there's so many good causes.
- 26:51That's that's the difficult of but you know, we try and support
- 26:54as many people as we can really. Which is incredible.
- 26:56So 6 even with my maths are correct. 66 charities, 100,000
- 26:59lbs. That's what an average of at
- 27:00least 15 and £100 per charity. Yeah, if it does vary on the
- 27:04different charities, like I say, some, some we've done a lot for,
- 27:06we've did runs and numerous games.
- 27:09And so the charities that maybe we've done one or two games.
- 27:11So it does vary the amount. But yeah, it's it's, it's nice
- 27:15to try and help as many as we can.
- 27:16Absolutely brilliant. And you talked about sponsoring
- 27:18a match then. So obviously you organise the
- 27:20match, get the players together, find the pitch, find a referee
- 27:24and then people can actually, and I know how it works because
- 27:28I played for the purpose of listeners.
- 27:30So players obviously pay to play that's fine.
- 27:33But then you also invite sponsors who actually sponsor
- 27:36the the match itself, get their brand advertised and then
- 27:38contribute towards charity as well if.
- 27:40That's it. Yeah.
- 27:41So we we don't, we don't get all of them obviously it's lots of,
- 27:44lots of, lots of lots of games that be hard to sponsor them
- 27:47all. But yeah, when we can, there's
- 27:49local companies that get involved, which is brilliant.
- 27:51And we, you know, share their information across all the, the
- 27:54football pages, etcetera as well to get their name out there.
- 27:57And most of the time I invite them to play.
- 27:59So they play and, you know, we get photos and stuff as well.
- 28:01And yeah, it's, it's, it's been a bit, a really good network
- 28:05now. And there's so many local
- 28:07companies involved now. It's, it's crazy really.
- 28:10So yeah, I want to thank all them for whether it's one game
- 28:13they sponsored, 2 games, or you know, any really, they've all
- 28:17been anyone who's helps. It's been amazing and I really
- 28:20appreciate their. Support and it just to think,
- 28:22you know, yes, you're doing it on a local scale, which is fine,
- 28:24but the effort you put in to do it, you know, we get the annual
- 28:28soccer aid game which is coming up soon actually, you know,
- 28:29Robbie Williams and his and his friends or what have you, but
- 28:32you know, you're you're actually doing a soccer aid at a local
- 28:35level once twice a month, aren't you?
- 28:36Which is absolutely amazing. Yeah, yeah.
- 28:39And it's, it's really important to, you know, it started off
- 28:42with all the the local guys and it's, it's like I said earlier,
- 28:46it's the next generation now. Their sons are now playing.
- 28:48And yeah, it's just more and more people seem to be hearing
- 28:52about it and want to get involved.
- 28:53And it's just really key to get the right people.
- 28:56They're there for the right reasons, if that makes sense.
- 28:58So it's not about, you know, we don't, we don't put the scores,
- 29:01we don't put the scorers. It's not about who's the best
- 29:03player. It's just people coming
- 29:05together, having fun. And that's, that's the key
- 29:07thing. And like I said, it's all people
- 29:08I know or friends of friends to keep that family feel because
- 29:11that's, that's really important. It's not about being the best
- 29:13team or anything like that. That's not what the games are
- 29:16about. It's just about all
- 29:17inclusiveness. Anyone can play and yeah,
- 29:20hopefully they all enjoyed. It and you talked about the ages
- 29:22early, so 17 to 72 and in terms of genders, is it mixed gender
- 29:27as well? Yeah, so, yeah, we've had yeah,
- 29:29mixed genders have played and we've had partners play, like I
- 29:33said with before brothers. We've had yeah, anyone's
- 29:36anyone's welcome to play. One gave me a three generations.
- 29:39So the granddad, the dad and the son all played.
- 29:41So it's just really nice to see that, you know, it's making
- 29:45memories for them. You know, it's, it's, you know,
- 29:47for a lot of people who played football for their child to play
- 29:51on the same team as, you know, a bit of a pipe dream for a lot
- 29:55in, in realistic terms when it comes to competitive or where it
- 29:57happens, Don't get me wrong. But these games give though
- 30:00that, that, that a chance for that to happen.
- 30:03And there's been so many, like I said, so many stories of where
- 30:05people have done that. And it's they've, you know,
- 30:07they've, they've never thought it would happen.
- 30:09And they they got the chance to play on the same team.
- 30:11Or sometimes they're like playing against their their
- 30:12children. But yeah.
- 30:15And you mentioned obviously you've got 900 odd players in,
- 30:17in the squad now or in the pool. And, and you know, that's all
- 30:20come from just people, you know, who then refer people who refer
- 30:23people and, and it's just grown in a trusted way, isn't it?
- 30:25So the nature of the matches is, is, is friendly.
- 30:28It's, it's, it's not competitive.
- 30:30It's not, there's no stupidity. It's, it's done in all in, in a
- 30:32good, good nature, isn't it? Yeah, and that's that's exactly
- 30:35what we want it to keep it to be.
- 30:37And that's why I've kept, I say the circle small.
- 30:40It's getting big now, but the idea is to keep it to people I
- 30:43know just because I'd hate for someone to come down and there'd
- 30:47be a silly tackle or someone something kicks off and it could
- 30:51just affect the whole field of the game, you know, you've
- 30:53played in the games. The idea is it's family
- 30:55friendly. Anyone can come and play.
- 30:57People can come and watch. Family can come and watch.
- 30:59And yeah, it's just that's that's the way I want to keep
- 31:01it. So that's why, you know, I keep
- 31:04it to people I know or friends of friends that get the right
- 31:06people involved. And luckily for me, ability is
- 31:09not taking into account. Either, which is great.
- 31:12So you, you, you show you, you know, it's open to people of all
- 31:16levels and abilities as well, isn't it?
- 31:17To to come. Around come along, there's some
- 31:19people who who literally never played football for a team and
- 31:22they've played and they've enjoyed it and that, you know,
- 31:25getting there, getting the level of football and they've come
- 31:27back. So they obviously must have
- 31:28enjoyed it. And you know, it's varied.
- 31:30We've had people like Marcus Hebden, who's ex Posh player,
- 31:32you know, we've had literally the whole spectrum of levels and
- 31:37abilities and ages and yeah, it's it's yeah, it's good.
- 31:41It's. Interesting He had Marcus
- 31:42Septon. That would have been quite a, I
- 31:44don't know, I suppose an eye opener to play against somebody
- 31:46was a former professional footballer.
- 31:47Yeah, I guess he obviously he wasn't firing on all cylinders,
- 31:51but I'm sure he's got good quality's there.
- 31:54He's he's still got it. He's still got an appear, you
- 31:56know, mentally. Exactly.
- 31:58It's just that the legs can't keep up sometimes I guess.
- 32:00Yeah, yeah. I mean, I've been like that for
- 32:02a long time, but yeah, I know. And the The funny thing about
- 32:05that game actually as well, that a big one of our big boss at
- 32:08work, he was a massive fan of Marcus Septon.
- 32:10And then when he sat down, he didn't know he was playing.
- 32:12So he just, he was just staring him like I had his poster on my
- 32:16wall. So he actually asked me to get
- 32:19Marcus to sign his Posh out for a £50 donation, which Marcus was
- 32:23like, of course I'll do that. And so yeah, this for him.
- 32:27He said, can I plan the same team?
- 32:28So, you know, on my wall are people like Paolo Maldinho or
- 32:31Badger. I was never going to play on
- 32:32their team, but. You're yet to invite.
- 32:33Them maybe next year, but for this guy who's a big Posh fan
- 32:38and he's got to play with the guy at the poster as well.
- 32:41Like he was absolutely, you know, absolutely chaff which to
- 32:46plan to play alongside in the centre mid with Marcus Hepton.
- 32:48I mean, he was buzzing. So yeah, that was another
- 32:50special, special moment, especially for him, so.
- 32:53Like I say, I was gonna say, you know, having played 306 matches,
- 32:56you must have some specific memories and and stand out
- 32:59moments and then that, you know, obviously you're scoring A posh.
- 33:02Yeah, for you personally, but generally for the whole team,
- 33:05there must be like you just gave an example there.
- 33:06There must be countless other examples where there's just been
- 33:10special moments. Yeah, you know, we have one of
- 33:12my friends suddenly passed away and we did a game in his memory
- 33:16and, you know, his chart, we put his lad down and we set him up
- 33:19for a hat trick. You know, we made him man of the
- 33:21match, made him captain for the day and just, you know, and he
- 33:25seemed to really reap and the family seemed to really, really
- 33:27appreciate. And then, like I said earlier, I
- 33:29got to plan same to him with my dad and brothers, which has
- 33:31never happened. That was really special.
- 33:33And yeah, there's been, there's been so many games that, you
- 33:38know, we've had some of these people involved that yeah, it's
- 33:42just hard to think of more. But it's been, yeah, there's
- 33:44been so many really special games and memories, so.
- 33:46Absolutely incredible. And touching on the sponsoring
- 33:50you mentioned about sponsoring matches, how does anyone
- 33:53listening want, if they want to sponsor a match either
- 33:55personally or as a from a sort of corporate branding
- 33:58perspective, how do they? Yeah, So on social media, if
- 34:02they look for Team Cementer and just send over an e-mail if
- 34:05they're interested, then I'll get in touch.
- 34:06And yeah, we can. And like I say, we're at the
- 34:08point now. I'm happy to support the people
- 34:11who sponsor their charity because a lot of time they've
- 34:12got a charity close to their hearts.
- 34:14So yeah, it's important to sort of, if they're sponsoring the
- 34:17game, we'll do it for, you know, their charity.
- 34:19It's good they can use Team Cimento as a vehicle to to raise
- 34:22money for their chosen charity. Definitely, which is incredible.
- 34:24And you're on Facebook, you're on Instagram, you're on X.
- 34:28So there's multiple ways. For ways to get in contact, you
- 34:30can. Contact you and I know you're
- 34:31very responsive on social media so yes, you will get back to my.
- 34:34Notes. I will.
- 34:34Yeah, definitely. Fantastic.
- 34:36Good stuff. So next match tonight, how's the
- 34:39preparations come along for that?
- 34:40Yeah, no, it's going, it's going good.
- 34:42We've got I think 14 aside, so plenty of players this for this
- 34:46one. And yeah, again, it's a mixed
- 34:49bag, mixed bag of people got we've got actually I think 3 or
- 34:514 new players again. So again, a bit we're building
- 34:53up that getting close to that thousand players milestone.
- 34:58But yeah, look forward to it. Nice weather, nice weather.
- 35:00It should be a bit cooler a bit later.
- 35:02So yeah, we should be another good one.
- 35:04Absolutely brilliant. Good stuff and along the way,
- 35:08apart from obviously amazing amounts of money for charity,
- 35:12the milestones you've you've hit the the match is a posh you've
- 35:15had other accolades as well. I think Pride of Britain
- 35:18finalists a. Couple of times, yeah, that that
- 35:21was really good. Once and then Pride of
- 35:22Peterborough another time. That's it, yeah.
- 35:24And then BBC Cambridgeshire fundraiser you and it's never
- 35:28been for anything like that, but that sort of raised the profile
- 35:30of games. And from that more people have
- 35:33come in and supported and, and, and stuff like that.
- 35:35So like I said, yeah, that's, it's sort of helped to raise
- 35:38the, the profile of the games, which is, which has been really,
- 35:41really good as well. And Amy, my wife as well, she,
- 35:45she did a skydive. Well, so she, she's raised over
- 35:48£1000 in a skydive and the other weekend as well.
- 35:51So yeah, over there the two weekends of the game and the
- 35:54skydive raised over £4000 which was really, really good amount.
- 35:58So I think I'd rather stick to play football.
- 36:00I'm. Sort of skydive.
- 36:02Me too, yeah. Quite fun.
- 36:03Yeah, maybe that's the next challenge.
- 36:05My wife just do want I'm like, I'll take the pictures from the
- 36:07ground, don't worry. Hang on.

- 39:01Show with myself, Tipam and Nilesh.
- 39:02If you missed any of the show, you can listen back on our
- 39:04website pcrfm.co.uk after 7:00 Mr. Cracking show so far.
- 39:10Marco Cementer's with us today from Team Cementer, who's been
- 39:13telling us about his story of raising enormous amounts of
- 39:17money for various charities by organising football matches in
- 39:20the local area with a group of local people.
- 39:23It's a fascinating story. Marco.
- 39:25We were just talking before the break about how you know the
- 39:29method of which you've you've oh sorry, the number of charities
- 39:31that you've raised money for the amount which is 100,000 lbs,
- 39:35which is incredible. 6060 plus charities, 66 charities, which
- 39:39is huge. What's the kind of plans for the
- 39:43future? You know, how do you do you, do
- 39:47you, have you kind of stuck to the formula from 10 years ago to
- 39:49now or have you evolved things in any way?
- 39:52How does this this sort of fantastic vehicle continue?
- 39:55It's, it's really been the same pretty much from the start.
- 39:58You know, we we book a pitch, we get a ref, we get some players
- 40:04and. They'll they'll pay you know, 5
- 40:07or to have a game it's. Working.
- 40:08Well, Don't. It's working.
- 40:09It's not broken. Don't.
- 40:09Fix it Yeah, that's it yeah. So it just it just it just seems
- 40:12to work and you know, I could you could charge more and all
- 40:17the rest of it to make more money, but at the end of the
- 40:18day, I want it to keep so it's affordable.
- 40:21Everyone, you know 5 LB you pay that anyway for a game.
- 40:26So this way it's sort of, you know, keeps the priceline, keeps
- 40:29people involved because you don't want to, you know, price
- 40:31people out or things like that. It's not what it's about
- 40:33everyone being able to play and get involved.
- 40:35So I. Mean 5 lbs, you know, it's,
- 40:38it's, it's a coffee, it's not even a pint a pint these days in
- 40:41some places. But in terms of paying £5 to
- 40:44play football, it's the sort of thing we probably we used to do
- 40:46at grassroots level when we played anyway.
- 40:48Percent generally to contribute towards the pitch higher and the
- 40:51refs and the subsidy we used to pay, you know, to, to, to, to
- 40:54play. So it's the same principle,
- 40:56isn't it? Definitely and after thank
- 40:58especially all the refs and everyone has been involved, like
- 41:00I said, all the players. I've got to give a shout at
- 41:03Scott Henry, who actually refed all seven games, him and his two
- 41:08colleagues at Posh. Yeah, he heard about the story
- 41:11Team Cementer last year when we did a game, and then he said if
- 41:14you ever do anymore, I'll do all of them.
- 41:15And he did keep to his words, so fair play to him for doing all
- 41:197. Fantastic, absolutely.
- 41:21And he's a qualified referee. Yeah, yeah.
- 41:23Who's come along and and supported the the cause.
- 41:26Which has been really good. But yeah, again, I just want to
- 41:28thank everyone that's had any involvement with it.
- 41:31Like I said, this is a good chance to to, to get tell
- 41:34everyone again how much I appreciate their support.
- 41:36And you know, Team Serrano, we wouldn't have gone past the five
- 41:41past one game if people hadn't got involved.
- 41:44So where do you see it going? I had a deep sigh.
- 41:49Well, not a sigh, actually, a deep breath.
- 41:51Just. You've got to see where you've
- 41:54come from. Take it all in.
- 41:55Yeah. Absorb that.
- 41:56And. Yeah, I mean.
- 41:58You know, where would you like to see it go?
- 42:01I mean, it's just. Even if you've thought about it,
- 42:02you may not have. Done.
- 42:03I've not really, I mean, we'd love to get to 100 charities as
- 42:06another milestone. That's that's another one that
- 42:08would be lovely to hear. And I mean, I said until my legs
- 42:11stopped working, but then my dad said, well, you could always be
- 42:13a manager and carry on anyway. So I don't know who knows.
- 42:16I think as long as I've, I've still got a support, which
- 42:19luckily I've still got so many people that want to be involved
- 42:22and it doesn't affect, you know, family life and stuff too much.
- 42:25I'm just going to just, you know, just stick with it.
- 42:27And people always said you're a long time retired.
- 42:29Once the boots are, you know, for a lot of people that that's
- 42:32it then. So I want to, I want to sort of
- 42:34try and keep it going as as long as I can.
- 42:36And as we talked about earlier, there's players far older than
- 42:38you that are playing. So there's inspiration there,
- 42:41isn't there? Yeah.
- 42:42I mean, some of the guys like, you know, mid 60 run up and
- 42:45bombing up and down. I mean, you know, not being fun.
- 42:48I'd be happy to be here at that age, let alone being able to run
- 42:50up and down and all the rest. I mean, some of the people that,
- 42:53you know, that obviously keeping in shape and all the rest of it
- 42:55is fair play to it. It's incredible, you know, yeah,
- 42:59to to have all these people involved.
- 43:01And yeah, like I said, I want to just shout out to.
- 43:04Yeah, give a you go give a shout out to as many people as you.
- 43:07Like Amy, Isabella and Sienna, my girls, thank you for, you
- 43:10know, all the support over the years and being the biggest fans
- 43:13and my dad and brother being involved.
- 43:15And literally everyone who's put in a pair of boots, made a
- 43:18donation, bought a raffle ticket, then a skydive.
- 43:22Then, you know, another shout out really.
- 43:24David Scales, he's done 24 hour walk.
- 43:26He run the run the London Marathon for Team Cementer.
- 43:30He's in cycling. And there's so many people I
- 43:32could thank individually, but we haven't got time.
- 43:35So I just want to thank everyone that's had any involvement.
- 43:38Thank you for playing. Thank you for, you know, being
- 43:40involved and having me on here. So yeah, thank, thanks everyone
- 43:43who's had any. Parts always a pleasure and I
- 43:46saw on your socials and just clarified for me because I hope
- 43:50I read it right, but there was some link to Guinness Book of
- 43:52Records and marathon running. Yeah.
- 43:54Tell us more about that. So that David Scales that I
- 43:57mentioned he ran in the London Marathon and apparently it was
- 44:01the most runners that's ever been for the.
- 44:03Yeah, This year the marathon just gone.
- 44:05Yeah. Yeah.
- 44:05So everybody who took part in that are effectively world
- 44:08record holders because it's the biggest marathon that's ever
- 44:11been. That's it.
- 44:12And he's sort of as a, as a little gift got me one for team
- 44:15Cementer, a little certificate as well.
- 44:16So that's what that's for. So oh.
- 44:18OK. So because he represented Team
- 44:19Cementer, he got a certificate from the Guinness Book of
- 44:21Records with Team Cementer. Because he ran for it.
- 44:24So yeah, that was really nice. Amazing gesture.
- 44:26And just the side of that marathon related, they've
- 44:29actually got a world record now for the number of applications
- 44:31for the 2026 event as well. So over a million people have
- 44:35applied for a London Marathon play.
- 44:37So yeah, anybody who does get a place, good luck and fingers
- 44:42crossed for you. But yeah, hats off to anybody
- 44:44completes a marathon as well, because that's an achievement in
- 44:46itself. Yeah, no, it's incredibly
- 44:48incredible achievement. Yeah, it's about the runnings, a
- 44:52unique kind of ability, I think because you know, on a football
- 44:55pitch like the, the, the day you played six stroke, seven
- 44:58matches, you potentially ran the equivalent of a marathon.
- 45:01Probably you had a, if you had a pace, maybe 1/2 marathon, But
- 45:05you mean, but to run it in a concentrated way.
- 45:08I mean, it is, it's a completely different level, isn't it?
- 45:11Yeah, and, and but he was, he is the running man.
- 45:13He, he does run like just I remember him a few years back,
- 45:16just I reckon I could do a marathon and he didn't train.
- 45:19He just did 26 miles on a weekend just because he felt
- 45:23like it. So he's got that gene of running
- 45:25and natural ability. Yeah.
- 45:27And when we played the five games a few years back, he
- 45:29played all 5. And I can guarantee he did a lot
- 45:31more steps than I did. I was, you know, pottering
- 45:34around. He was running around.
- 45:35So. So yeah, no.
- 45:37And again, that just helps all these other things.
- 45:39The skydive, the marathon, the 24 hour walks that people have
- 45:42done like cycling, it just it just helps to raise more and.
- 45:47So people are now contributing by non footballing.
- 45:50Yeah, as well, though, that's it.
- 45:51Yeah. So people that have maybe
- 45:52football's not their main thing, they like running and stuff.
- 45:55And can we run for, you know, support charity you're you're
- 45:58willing to support. So yeah, it's like I said, it's
- 46:00getting, it's a, it's a massive team effort.
- 46:02And for the football matches then obviously the the held at
- 46:04Yaks DFC most of the time and obviously at Posh, as you
- 46:06mentioned, can people come and spectate and if they even if
- 46:09they don't want to play, yeah, come and watch friends or family
- 46:11that are playing. It's well, it's welcome to
- 46:13anyone. There's no charge or anything.
- 46:14Even the games that posh, some people charged.
- 46:16I mean, who's going to come pay people like me play football so
- 46:20it's free. Anyone can anyone can come.
- 46:21Friends and family are always welcome.
- 46:24I will if OK, just a shout to Carl Rumble as well, because he
- 46:28was he's the photographer for all the games.
- 46:30He's been there from day one. So I've got to give him a shout
- 46:33out because he's been incredible and what he's done as well is
- 46:35captured all these memories of these people playing, you know,
- 46:38so. There's a book coming here,
- 46:40isn't there? There's got to be a picture book
- 46:44of every game moment. There.
- 46:46Could be something along those lines and you were talking
- 46:48about, you know, perhaps a, a biography, a biography, but a
- 46:52book from your perspective as well.
- 46:53Just some words to go up against that.
- 46:55With all those stories, yeah, yeah, I think, I think that's
- 46:58good. I have thought about that.
- 46:59It's just Clayton all and and. Time to do it.
- 47:01Yeah, and I, I quite like writing poems and stuff.
- 47:04And I was, I thought about a team Cementer like a children's
- 47:07book where Team Cementer plays, I don't know, Vikings and
- 47:10dinosaurs. Like in my head, I've got an
- 47:12idea of like a little book where it's all rhyming and Team
- 47:16Cementer sort of plays all these different teams, aliens and all
- 47:19sorts. I don't know, it's just an idea.
- 47:21I. Know it's good.
- 47:22Keep thinking of these things. So fantastic Marco, absolute
- 47:25pleasure as always. Thank you for coming back today
- 47:28and giving us a fantastic update and and wishing you continued
- 47:32success because you know what you do is like I say, it's just
- 47:34absolutely amazing and to blows my mind what you've, what you've
- 47:37achieved in 10 years. So you know, any support you
- 47:40need from us in any way or we're always here and happy to support
- 47:43your 'cause I really appreciate you by playing on the other
- 47:45occasion as well. Thank you for having me on.
- 47:47I really appreciate that. No.
- 47:48Fantastic. Thank you.
- 47:50And again, just a reminder for anyone who's interested in
- 47:52sponsoring a match, whether they're corporate or personal,
- 47:54how do they get in touch with you?
- 47:56Yeah, just on social media, if you're just looking for Team
- 47:58Cementer, like we say on X Facebook and Instagram, send me
- 48:02a message and yeah, we'll we'll get in touch.
- 48:04And like I say, we're happy to support the charity that that
- 48:07might be close to their hearts as well.
- 48:08So. Fantastic.
- 48:10Good stuff. Brilliant.
- 48:11Thank you, Marco, and hopefully see you again in future when you
- 48:14hit quarter of a million. Thank you.
- 48:15I'll see you 2 both on the pitch there.
- 48:18Once he jumps out of a plane. Brilliant.
- 48:21Thank you Nilesh, as always. Brilliant.
- 48:22Thank you very much. Just a shout out again for the
- 48:25Activate at Central event tomorrow, which takes place at
- 48:28Central Park such as the 14th of June, 11 till 3:00.

- 48:35event and it's an opportunity for you to try out lots of
- 48:39different sports. It's all free, and there's even
- 48:41a little reward at the end for you as well.
