- Sheridan: Welcome to the Sheridan Show. We're gonna forget the theme song. Lucy first time joining. My name is Sheridan. I'm the host of the Sheridan show. I'm joined by Anna and we are live in New York. Thank you for watching. We are all about learning, sharing information, just being curious. We talk about a variety of things. We talk about what everybody's talking about. So nothing is off limits unless we say it's off limits, but we really just approach everything with a sense of curiosity. So yeah. We're going to jump into our first segment, which is What's the Tea? Wow. OK, so y'all, you know, I'll keep up with you. It's only been three. So What's the Tea? We're going talk about a few things going on in the world, give our opinions, our hot takes, and then we're going to move on because there's so much more to talk about. OK. And keep in mind, if you are watching live, you love comments and the chats. If you've been watching me for the last couple weeks, you'll see I have graphics today. So I figured out the camera. Okay, you work really hard to figure out the camera situation and I'm like I'm gonna see great tonight good last week I don't even have a nightmare. What? I have no reflection in me. So it's been this thing, Sidebar, we use this platform called Riverside at the Stream Live. They got some technical things going on for And the camera was blurry so I had to like pivot each episode and film through my iPad on YouTube but I figured out the camera situation. But yeah, last week I was like up all night just like thinking about it. I'm okay in perfectionist y'all if y'all don't know like I could be type B but it's like me cosplaying it's like, it's it's not fair. But it's okay it was worth it because you just figured it out and it looks amazing. Because only week three, yes. Okay, let's get into it. Let's talk about a different world. I watched an episode? Okay. What are your thoughts? Okay, what are your thoughts? why don't we do an episode? Because they're like 20 minutes. Exactly. When I saw the 22 minute mark, I was like, okay, I can do this. There's a couple of things. I will say it kind of like gave me a first person view of going to HBC, which I never have. I wish that I did. So that seems pretty cool. And then they brought back some of the characters from the original. they had the mom, they had the dad, I guess. the hot guy that was in the previous version. Which we'll get into that a little bit, okay. I don't know, I just feel like it was a little Tyler Perry-ish. I was like, the acting was like, okay, like I did it. I don't know. Maybe I just needed to give it time and like. get into it more like i know it takes time for like shows to take off and then my god i don't want to say nothing creepy but like i mean it's not a fit these are opinions okay the wig whose wig with the purple hair i liked her hair dead the one with tashina tashina arnold's art in real life yes the purple hair cute yeah she plays her mom on the show that's her sorry i didn't see that I feel like I'm okay with her current hair, but when you get further in the season, changes her hair and it looks even worse. No! Because I'm worried if you had said that and you okay also if you watch a different world, please comment your thoughts. We would love to know. yeah, it gets worse. Okay. Yeah, I feel like it's good. But no, was saying like, who's pulling up in the Lamborghini? Eric here, Jr. was a Lamborghini. Is that normal? I don't know. I don't know. This course on threads where it was like, the weeks, same. Like, there's, that's what we got, anybody. Okay, so I have to like, okay, let's both talk something. Okay. So on Threads, I obviously I didn't go to HTTU either. I was reading people's comments on Threads who did go to HTTU and they were just like, someone who was realistic, where you have these parents who are the donors and who are the millionaires and they call this money. So I think it wasn't unrealistic. To an extent, I don't know. We didn't go to an Asian TV. I did finish this, I binge watched it. So I also feel like I have a different perspective, but I do feel like it was still background TV. what did you hear about that? I mean, I think it was good, but it was like background TV. I was doing other stuff. Like I was like working on stuff for the podcast. Like I was like doing work. I don't know if I could have sat there and watched it without having something else like going on. Why though? it wasn't interesting enough and that's why I say like things are not good because the same thing was happening to me. Okay. I can't see who. She said the first episode was definitely a low burn. Okay. Yes, the pixie. I would elected to pixie. It was the pixie. So later, like last, you know how somebody feels like a change of the show. change the hair. She was wearing a pixie. It was awful. But I liked it. I don't know why. I got elected because I just support life. Was it like Black World? Well, that makes sense. Was it like a Black Love story? Like kind of like forever? I do think there were a lot of realistic storyline. Okay. I thought there were a lot of realistic storyline of like a lot of sneaky relationship. easily. It's always juicy. It is juicy. Okay, okay. What gets me as somebody watching the show is like the main characters don't know what's going on. So you can see person A hooking up with person B, but they're really dating person C, but it's by a person B doesn't know this. And so they're doing all these things that you're like, you don't know that this person just Okay, okay, wait. I know what's going on here. What do you think about Aaron Peter Jr. and- I like the dark skin. I'm not gonna lie to you. I can ear pierce your nose. I'm not sure if I can do it with my eyes. Okay. It is what it is. Sorry. Can't believe you won. You're not my type anyway. So it's fine. But... Ellington? think we've seen that before. Which one is Ellington? The bronze skin one. The one that has to your junior or something. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. I'm living this new era of my life. I love chocolate brown skin man that seems kind of like semi-nerdy-ish. But he still has his swag to you? Yeah, Elton John is my favorite. What did you think about your peer? He's cute. He's cute. a good peer junior. I don't know, he just seems like a, he's young. He looks young to me. But he's cute. He's cute. mean, I don't think I would ever have dated him in real life. Right, it gives like, You know? Yeah. Not me. Even like if we were in undergrad and I saw him, would love to. need to track him, but like I... This is a home of the topic. But like, I can't date somebody that I feel like is trying to compete with me. To be pretty. To be pretty. Yeah. Yeah. To be a pretty boy. And I like a pretty boy to some extent, but you have to have some type of like... Like, Ellenton gives... He can be a pretty boy, but he also has like some intellectualism or like that nation needs to back you up. You know? But this is not about me. Someone said, someone did gave HBC back for the dance. Somebody's rep an A &T in Chad. is not for anyone who's not A &T. But I know, who do you think, what HBC do you think has the most pride about themselves? my God. Like I thought you had it before I moved to North Carolina and I was like, there's a lot of guys. is a cult. Aggies are a cult, okay? What would you say are the top five or top three HDCUs? Because I came from Atlanta, you know? So you have Spellman, you have Moore, have Clark. I do feel like on the East Coast it's a bigger type of pride. I think Fist is HDCU. I feel like Fist is very low key. I feel like you hear about A &D, Howard, they're going to eat me up in the comments. So, FAMU, FAMU is a bit, FAMU is kind of, I'll say slept on, they're probably like why FAMU slept on, but I thought FAMU slept on. But then in Texas, like being from Texas, like PSU and PB, that's like, you know? Okay, let me move on. What else? Okay, squishing gears a little bit. Climate change. I know it's a big shit, but it's like, y'all, Emma and I need to learn an alphabet. I was in LA for like, well California for like eight weeks, almost two months. A little under eight weeks. And then I went back to Houston for two weeks, I went to Charlotte, then I to DC down here. There's a lot of climate going on. It's a lot of different climates and they all were not everything has been unseasonably different than like what the climate was supposed to be like LA had heat wave for like it was hotter in LA one day than it was in Crazy. And then I went to Charlotte and it was 95 degrees in Charlotte and I get to DC it's 50 degrees outside. I get to New York it's 50 degrees outside and some of this is like abnormal and then I get here and you and I were talking about the climate change clock. Like it's gonna be It's be 80 degrees here I think on Friday. But right now it's like 50 degrees. Right. It's just, I don't know like... But I didn't necessarily, I felt like sometimes climate changed me. Don't cancel me. I felt like they were fear mongering. Because I used to watch a lot of Doomsday movies and like, so I'm like, okay, how real is this? But I don't know, y'all. 95 degrees in LA in July, or the fact that they almost, like they were threatened with a like hurricane potentially because of El Nino. I don't know. You know why you just let me think of something. So you know New York had heat wave too, was like hunting the hundreds and like monsanto mats and stuff. He had to set up cooling centers. I was taking an Uber one day and this guy told me he moved to New York in the 90s and he told me they didn't even have AC in the car, like it wasn't even hot enough to have AC in your In the 90s. He told me that, even the 80s are the 90s. So that's how you can tell climate change. It's crazy. Yeah, like, or even we think about, was it Indonesia that had, or Nepal that had those colors? I thought we were living, I tried living in unprecedented times. it just keeps happening. We were being from Houston, they were like, it's crazy that we have not had a hurricane by this time. Like not just Houston, like there has not been a formed hurricane in the Atlantic this hurricane season. And then we're not co-workers. yeah. Like there was one year that we went through the entire alphabet and they started with, they had to restart the alphabet of Maine. Cause it was that many. To go from that to like... Okay, so I would want to know in the chat and I want to your thoughts. Would you try to survive like some type of apocalyptic event with climate change? Because they're saying we can't reverse it. If y'all saw my story today, there's that climate change clock in unions. That says we have like two and half years left before. If y'all watch Paradise, you know what I'm talking about. So I want to survive. No. Absolutely not. I think the AI is going to come kill us anyway. That's all I think about. I don't we put it overnight from like, everybody's smart AI to like, maybe I need like... Now's not the time, we need to slow down. When do y'all find out though? But it's contributing to the climate change. It's not really these data centers, it's using all of this water. It's crazy. It's crazy. Even though, I was going to tell you something else today. even though I'm not a good beer-sy beers, I had not watched The Matrix until like early this year. I'm crazy. And I feel like the first Matrix kind of talked about how like... AI and the robots kind of like, I'm paraphrasing, but like took over to where, it was weird. I don't know, just interesting watching it in 2020, you're like, I was there on some of this stuff in movies, but I can't talk here so easily. Okay, last but not least, have you watched any of Drake's FOMO? Did you watch it live? One. No, I mean, when I was there. So. Can you not put me on? Yes, okay. Also somebody says you can find me underground in bunker. Let me know where the bunker is please. I will pay eight minutes. I'm staying at the room. Yes. Okay. When did it go live? It's been like two weeks. So went live September 15th on YouTube and he kept promoting. And then was just like a conglomerate of music videos. It was interesting. I'm a Drake stan, so I'm gonna support him. You are, cause you're Houston. Any woman from Houston is a Drake stan. I'm like the grassy Drake stan. Music! Mixed-sync Drake What is the fudge mixing? Yeah, I might come back even. Yeah, straight thing. So far gone, chopped the screws. This is interesting. I mean, think as a fellow creative, I support the whimsy. I was very whimsy. It was getting very much like, I have $2 million I need to spend before the end of my tax year. I have $2 million I need to spend before the end of my tax year. Let's. Make some PC videos, I'm not mad at it. As a creative, now as a critic, I can see people having criticism, but they're always criticizing Drake. I have my criticisms for sure. I will say I was growing on TikTok, and there's like a song that's going viral about a fandom or something, and I was like, okay, this sounds kinda alright, I need to find it on Apple Music. And that's why I saw that I had a playlist of the FOMO videos and I watched some of them and I'm just like, is Drake gonna be 40 or is Drake 22? Like that's my criticism. age? Like your music should be maturing with you. Like, who has an example of it? to the silence. I was gonna say Prince Rick, but like you can't use that. He's mature. He's an old folk. But I guess it depends on like what you listen to music for. I've had this debate with some people who are like heavy J. Cole fans. J. Cole, the lyrics, blah blah blah. I don't listen to my music for lyricism. Like, I listen to be... It's either have fun or be entertained or go out. But like, I don't listen to music for the lyrics. That makes sense. What does it make Because I do. So that's my criticism. Okay, okay. My thing is like, when you like this hard, like music has to get you through it. So what do you say in music to uplift me? That's why I love my Olivia Dean, love my Cleo Sol, I love affirmative music. that makes me sad. That music makes me like uplifting. How do you really? Yes. Girl. Like I need to probably give Olivia Dean another try. Girl, she's so mellow for She's all about love and stuff. I'm so ready to try. Girl. Wait, you just said something. Also, because you know like to sing. Wait, Anna is a singer. I tried to see if she was going to sing like that. I don't know about that, but like... I mean, you could just drop a little A-count. Next time, next time. Okay, listen, if we get five people commenting that you should sing... No! Don't comment, y'all. Okay, so, the thing is when you write music... You think of music in that way, like when you're writing lyrics. Like can I talk about that I've been through? And if like you're writing lyrics. F'n girls all the time. Which is fun sometimes when you go out but sometimes it's hard. Like sometimes I might have my heart and I'm gonna cry. Have seen Drake? Lately? Yes! He's always crying about somebody. Drake is never talking about f'n girls at the club. Drake? He's talking about how somebody broke his heart and he met Like recently? Just collectively. He's a I feel like the old Drake. I feel like this new Drake. Drake is a sad boy. Okay, okay, okay. And the fellow cancer moon. kid He's kid who's so serious about life. He's kinda a boy. Okay. I mean, maybe I need to hear the new song player talking about that because Amish on Abishamay does not feel like you're quiet. Okay, some of those things are just insincreta. Okay. God is saying that he was Beyonce, got on all these songs, it was... Yellen. What did she do? That's what we made up a That's what I'm talking But she gave you a set of beliefs you might stop cheating on me. play with me. Cause I'm not the type Beyonce. Okay Okay, we are going to move on. Okay, speaking of people being whimsical and doing all the things. Y'all, sorry, no. I'm in New York, so I could just wear whatever I want. They're so cute. Like, that's the thing here. And that's whimsy, too. But like, just mix things that are, like, unique. I think New York is the only place you can walk out the house and wear whatever you want. Isn't that fabulous? It looks good. Why else would you want to live? Like, why not? That's so cool that you do that. mean, this is a place. It's cool getting to say. Okay, okay. Sidequests, Wednesday, all the things. So, you know, y'all know I love the sidequests. I mean, I feel like I'm currently on a side. My life is a sidequest. I'm gonna update my bio and say that. My life is a sidequest. But, you know, I'm all here for the sidequests, all the things. What's being related to sidequests? You can share this year, this month, this week, something that just sticks out to you. my God. I mean, moving here is definitely a huge, no, that's the main point. Yeah, I'll say it's your story. Last Friday I went to Acton's Zip, which is really if you ever come to New York City or you live in New York City you have to go to Acton's Zip. So it's like pain in Zip. You have your drinks, you can bring your own bottle and you go there and the acting coach you tell her about your life and she assigns you a role based on what you told her about yourself. and then she cares you with a partner that you don't know, you go over the scene in the lines and you act in front of everyone. And then they give you feedback and then you do it again. If you do it again. Okay, I have question. So you and I go, you tell her, I just want to tell you a word, that's how I story it on the senior. Does she give you like a script, I guess that relates back to that or she just gives you a script that she thinks is like. No. for your story. Exactly. So like the story that I got was like Jim and Pam from The Office. I don't know if anyone knows The I love it. It's so funny. But like it took a while to click for me that Pam works the 9 to 5 when her true dream is to be an artist and to create work. I told her that about myself. I was like that's why she assignments. But Marcy was like a love thing. So like it wasn't interesting. Exactly. But that was a side quest. I did that because, you know, my issue was like being seen. my. god thank you. I just love when stuff falls on my lap. No, okay, but it's cool. You know I'm offering you, you know I did improvs. think it just like, it just gets you out of your comfort zone. Okay, so were there a lot of people there? Yes, maybe we had like 20. That's a lot of people. Yeah, because there was a lot of scenes. they had insecure, had sex with the thing. There were a lot of people. I could be Carrie. Someone was Carrie. Someone was Miranda. I don't know. wasn't even Miranda either. My choices would be Charlotte or Samantha. Why? Out of the four of them? Samantha, I guess. Charlotte. I Charlotte. I relate is a strong word. But I feel like I relate to certain things about Charlotte. I just feel like, I don't know, there's something in me that can like, marry and I can have a little family and like have this kid in my life. But there's a part of me that's probably, if I have to give a percentage of myself, the sex of the city characters, I would say like, I know I used to be this one. Okay, I would say like, shh. 30 % Charlie? Okay. 30 % Samantha, so is that 60 %? And then like, the least what, 40 %? 30 % Miranda, because y'all know about my business. And 10 % Carrie, because we all have a little Carrie, doesn't it? Don't lie, I'm not kidding. Well, just like attribute it to like a fashion. Yes, the fashion side of it. Not the... All the other shit Carrie you have in your mind. Like, literally, anything else, I don't relate to. Okay, what would you give... my god, okay. Just, yeah, it an interview. Damn, I might be like, 60 % Miranda. I you are! Come out my face, men get out my face. you're like, Steve, what does Steve want to talk about? I don't know, like, you don't have a job, get away from me. Wait, hold on. Okay, so, 60 % Miranda. Maybe 20 % Charlotte because I didn't want to be in with somebody. She would not play about that. She knew about Yeah, Charlotte was like, and somebody said if you look back at older episodes, Charlotte was caught up with Samantha. She just had goals in mind. Exactly. She was just like, She knew about her standards. wait, I think I'm going to take my numbers wrong. Okay, hold on. 50 %... What's her name? Miranda? Yes. 50 % Miranda. 20 Samantha because I'm also okay with like big and single for her living my life how I want to. I Samantha was dog walking them. Exactly. So 20 her, 20 Charlotte and 10 Carrie. Carrie just like let big dog walk her. can't. like I can't take that. Carrie let big dog And she was my best friend. mean that goes into the whole side. I don't know, we don't like it into Because it makes you think about girlfriends and the whole like people talk about how Tony and John weren't really good friends either. then that makes you think about insecure and then makes you think about Lisa and Molly. That's a whole side conversation. Okay, I just love, mean kind of going into your like who's Anna and all the things. Anna just moved to New York. three, four months ago, at the peak of summer New York, when the Knicks were, you know, they were doing their thing, whatever. Yeah, you were having a ball. I would just love to know, I mean, I shared a little bit about you. You are on my email list, on social media, and obviously works in tech, and you have like the super tentacle side of you. However, you are a phenomenal singer. Hopefully you're gonna get a cameo someday. Maybe she'll do my intro, I don't know. I would love to know what that journey for you getting to New York was like. I don't know if I should get into the details but it was crazy. know, we were voicing it. Yeah, and she was about to pack her stuff up and I was like, I was about to leave you guys. when I first got here, I was supposed stay in the Airbnb for 30 days to find my apartment. Yeah. Got here, I think I was talking to you that same night. It was at end of the I said no. You really think that you got here? Yes, talked to the girls. Aunt's y'all. Everywhere. no, I had to cancel. I was going from hotel to hotel. And then I found another Airbnb. And it was, I don't know why she didn't put a detail. I mean, we have, you know, have girls. We have about 30 minutes, so. It was a little crazy, the, the, the girl, the wife was a dumb, but that's a- think she was a stripper. She was a stripper! She was a She was a bow. That's a New York Exactly! And then you know the old Zephyr can make bitch. Wait, was that the other person? No, that was the same Airbnb. No, I'm saying that was the other person's thing. The other room. And the same Airbnb, but was also litigant. was crazy. And I didn't know. They didn't put that on the Airbnb list. I didn't know you didn't know. No, girl. New York is a crazy New York is at a real place. There was a girl thing in the Airbnb, she was on a stomach, so she was just in her hair in the showers, and I'm taking a shower in there every day, and I said, God, I have to find my apartment, like, what am I doing? I was trying to go back to that thing. Which I know, I did not know there was a side effect of a little bit, like, hair on it. was something. Yeah, she was rich. finally found my apartment, thank God. I've been going on 20 or 30 of building tours. Yeah, you were exhausted. It was crazy. She was ready to go and I was like, gotta lock it, girl. I think when the next one, I was like, okay, God. I think it's saved a lot of people's energy. Like 53 years? That was crazy. I was in a flyer. my God, my phone was disgusting. Yeah. Like if I was a millionaire, I would be here. I mean, look how much I've been traveling all year. What made you even want to move? We talked about this in another episode, maybe episode 1 of just like how I feel like our generation compared to previous generations we are a lot more inclined to relocate and move our home. say like for you to do that in your mid 30s I think it's like impressive like you know you got a small feet to like make up your mind there's so many people like I want to live here I want to live there they don't ever do it yeah what like inspired you to really want to do that? I think for me that's what point where I was like tired and I wasn't happy. And so like I was willing to take the risk even though it was scary to do. To New York. Yeah something that scared me but I will say like you know I have a strong relationship with God. Yeah. So like I was talking to God about it and I feel like if God opens doors for you you have to take them. So like you tell God this is something that you want and he opens like you me and you talked about it. had a manager who was like helping me get here, he fought for me to get like a salary. He fought for me find a girl. then like, he ended up leaving the company like a little bit after I left. I mean, I came to New His job's done. So imagine if I didn't take that opportunity. So that's another thing. Like if there's something that you're willing to do and God is like opening the door, you need to take it. don't be afraid. I know you're gonna afraid to do it. Yeah, it reminded me of, you know, the quote, it's like, I'm here for you. Was it, I'm gonna butcher this. It was Michael Jackson, right? Either Michael Jackson or Prince. I think it was Michael Jackson with like, whenever he got a song idea, he would go to the studio and record it because he didn't want Prince to thank you. Or his vice versa. I'm not gonna say his I thought it was Michael It was Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson, yeah. I kind of believe that when it comes to your dreams, there certain expiration dates, there are certain like windows of time where things divinely kind of like orchestrate themselves and you can kind of like, I'm getting a little woozy on them, you can like literally jump into this new life where you can like not, but I do think there is a window of time for opportunity. It's a catch-me-true because there's this whole thing of like what's for you is for you and it's like yes, that's true and also like you have the... take those opportunities when they present themselves. used to be like just try it. If it doesn't work, it's okay. It's not the, like in my mind I was making things so finite. Everything is not so finite. It's okay to say it but if it And if it works, works if it doesn't, it doesn't. It's not the end of the world. So I think that's another thing to put in perspective. I think so too. It's just kind of like, I don't know, you know me. It's like, what's the worst that can happen? Exactly. Like, I mean, my perspective, I just have a very just whatever perspective, but I just feel like. At this big age, would rather do something and it didn't work. I failed. I hated it. Then to like not do it. It's been the rest of my life. Wondering like what if that would drive me crazy. I would I would feel crazier or go crazier. Wondering what if versus like doing it. Exactly. Don't let your fear paralyze you. How do you feel like that translates into your creativity? Because you work in tech, you are a software engineer. My girl's in tech! Serious! we're seven. Yes, we're seven. Yes. So you have this career that you moved here for and also you are a talented singer. Thank you. Of course. when we see if we have anybody in the chat. Yeah, somebody said I was so rude on Black Guys. Exactly! Exactly! Like, how do you- left brain feel that you're in, and your finger, what does that look like for you of like, me? I will say I'm still working through it. Yeah. Because it's very difficult. The left brain is very analytical. You have to do things right. You have to have things prepared. You can make mistakes, but it's almost like, it's like when you write code and you create a bug, it's like, damn, I gotta fix it. I'm pissed up. I feel like when you're creating art, there's no perfect way to do it. You have to be free and sometimes you can make mistakes, sometimes it's not gonna be perfect, but you have to continue to work through it to get better. That's the only way. So it's like, there are totally two different worlds and I feel like sometimes the left brain does not help the right brain. Because I can be logical, can be analytical, I can plan everything to the T. When it comes to creativity, you can't do that. What do you feel like? Like what does that look like for you next? That's what we talked before when you're like, I love singing. This is I want to do. Like how are you plotting and planning to like let your right brain. How are you as the show is titled? Aren't you crazy? That's a good question. Girl, mean. I'm trying, like of course I have my sessions where I sit down and I create music and I tell myself, okay, it doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to be true. It has to be, I am creating music that is talking about what I'm going through and what I'm feeling, right? It may not sound the best, the words may not always come out right, but like. the more you continue to do it every day you get better at it. So that's one thing. And I will say one thing that the lady told me when I went to the- I'm a lady. The acting coach, when I went to the acting yes. When I told her about my life, she was like, I really like this thing she said New York has like such a great like open mic like situation you can go anywhere and sing. And I was like, what if I'm like that? And she's like, well everyone should all come and sing. That's the best. So she was like- it. Maybe you try it. And continue like- to iterate like. Yeah, that would be my encouragement too. I just feel like all of us have creativity in us and some of us have these very left brain jobs because you know, feels America. You know, however, for a lot of us like we are creative. Like I know for myself personally, yes, I my nine to five and also I love creativity and just doing things. I think what I've had to like. Reconcile with it's like things are not gonna be perfect. Like it's a crazy which is why I respect Drake. That's I do respect Drake as an artist because even with that whole Kendrick beat it's like Drake never came out and said he was the best lyricist. Okay, I've never heard him. Now he may say he's the best rapper or he may say, you know, he says he's the best at laughing. But I think he's ever blatantly said he's the best lyricist. But I did really enjoy FOMO because it really felt Okay, here's this like, he's not 40 yet, is he? He's 40 now, come on. He's not 40 yet. Okay, okay. He got 40. He's not 40 yet. And I think I just appreciate people just having whimsy about it. Like sometimes you just do, literally just because like you're passionate about it and you want to do it. Like, you would be watching the show like, yes, like down hot, I would love to have like, you know, a nighttime show and blah blah blah. But also I love talking. It's been for three hours. from my mouth, you know what saying? And I'm like, there has to be a balance of like, part of honoring your creativity is not worrying about the, and I don't have to put words in your mouth, don't know how you feel, but like, I like sometimes we have become so capitalistic that like we think we can't just do something for the fly. Like everything has to like be perfect and open mic night, or like the graphics have to be perfect on this show. And it's like, that's just not reality. Like what is perfectionism? It's not so sabotage. You know, this is so true. Yeah. You know what else I've learned through this move? What? It's like, think another piece of perfectionism is trying to control the outcome. Yeah. Instead of having the experience and letting it teach you what it needs to teach you. I think that's a great point. What does that look like for you? Like how have you come to this awareness? It looks like doing the work that I can do and then leaving the rest to God because like He knows that I can be like, I'm like. You're like, wait, you're right. But you still have to do work. A of is the journey. think a lot of it really is. Like one thing I have come to terms with, even again, going back to the show, it's like a new thing for me. like, some of it is just the journey of like... I don't want to laugh, it's like, have you seen that season 2 movie? journey. No, I haven't. Okay, okay, okay. I would have to Yeah, I think some of it just the journey of like, every day's going be perfect, every day's be without not having to... And some of this is like say for example the Sheridan show a year from now to years now like I'm manifesting million dollar, know sponsorships, whatever Yes, I'm gonna be so excited in that moment. And also it's like the journey that like got me to that point. You know? It's like what is it the friends you make along the way? Literally, it's one of the friends you make along the way kind of pivoting a little bit. I think it's interesting that you are so creative, but you also are in tech like How do you feel like, I think one of questions that some people may have is like, how did you get into tech? my God, it's crazy. That's the hot topic conversation. How did you get into tech? You know what's so crazy though? I was in tech before, it became like a big boom. Yeah. it got so popular. So girl, am I really putting all of my... later in life I didn't know that was because you were pursuing your same career. Mariah, yes we I the story by the way. I was in time. I was in every series about school so I was in school in my early 20s and I was just excited for the kids. And then like time started ticking. I said, girl, you got bills. It's a lifestyle. You don't have to do something. So I was going to school, but I was going to school for business. Because I worked as an administrative assistant. man. And that is so funny. In tech or in the industry? Like a different industry. I know. Yeah, like, and I used to go to school at some point. was like, God, what am I going to school? I don't know what to do. What do I do? What do I do? Like, what am I going to school for? I was going for business because. Like I said, I was working at the admin, like that's the easy, right? And at my school, I took this, I like to call it intro to programming. And I had It's not a fairy tale. But it just teaches you how program. This was like, this was like 2016. Okay, you were like, I didn't know that. Yes. But you know what's crazy? I loved computers since I was a little girl. So like, girl, why do I get to click on. Yeah, but like, you know, it's the journey. It's the journey. There you go! It's the journey. So every time I'm close to class, you have to do the exercise the professor gives you and then raise your hands so you can check your work. I always would be like, one of the first people to raise my hand. So he'd be like, and my answer was right, he'd be like, what's your major? I was like, business, he's like, need to change your major. And I'll be like, and it's taking me forever to graduate. So I don't know if people know this, if you have a STEM versus a non-STEM major, you take different classes. Yeah, so if you're a STEM, you gotta take chemistry, you gotta take all these math, calculus, and I was like, I'm not doing this. I'm already behind the curve. And he used to get on with every time went to that class. He used to be like, did you change your major yet? And one day I like, forget it, I'm gonna forget you, you're not my nurse. Professor you saved my life. Whoever you are you saved my Look at your girl. You saved my New York living, working in Because thank God I changed my major when graduated. And I've been working in tech. That was popular but like back to my party. It's so interesting like again, going back to when we talked about when the show started. It's just like you just never know when something you have to say is like a blessing to somebody else. Because even with him saying that to you like, I mean of course he was trying to help you but it's like, he didn't know that it was gonna lead to you 5, 10 years from now working in tech and like working for a major Fortune 500 company. Changed my life! Like what? Just say the thing y'all. Exactly, say it. Just say the thing. So how would you like, I feel like that's a hot topic. Let me in comments. Okay, talking about the journey, yes. How would you, if there people who are wanting to get in tech, or just like, I think something that a lot of people in our generation kind of struggle with is like, just managing, one, trying to get into tech, but also being a creative, like, how do you just manage all of that? Girl, I will say, I mean, you talk about this, and I'm still working on it. But I don't know what you're going to say. Remember we talked about the mentorship thing? yeah. That's very important. So like when I was working as an administrative assistant, I mean I was already in school for tech, but there was this lady who worked on my job. working on Honeywell. And I was doing like some, that was the second job I had. Like some type of like interviewing, like scheduling for like C-suite people. And she was like, girl, you gotta get an internship. She was like, you have to do an internship. But she mentored young black women. So having a mentor to lead you, feel like it's very helpful. I need to find one for my life. I think that helps. I think building your network for people who work in tech, too, is very important. does that look like? That's the like, and you and I have this conversation a lot, and I've had other people ask me, where it's like, how do you put a network? get in contact with people and have conversations. I don't feel like some people even know where to start with like building a network, either because they feel like it's inauthentic to them or they just don't know where to start. I think depending on like where you live in your city, there are events. Like you can look up TikTok, Posh, Eventbrite. Posh came out of nowhere. It did make it And people were like, yeah, I know it's so crap, but I'm so bad for Eventbrite too. I used to love Eventbrite down there. But I would say do your research, find events through Posh, and then write with on social media. I'm not a really big LinkedIn person, but like maybe it does work for some people. Conferences. Conferences. Yes, con. Race. Hopper for women who are trying to get into tech. heard it's really good one. And I would venture to even say like just nurturing those connections. think people go to events or meet people at a coffee shop or whatever. staying in contact on LinkedIn or just sending a quick note or like, hey, how are you doing? I'm in town, let's have coffee. I think it's, and it kind of goes back to when it's a whole other thing to do. But like in our, in our now, like online discourse, there's a lot of conversation about like how to build community and what does that look like? And a lot of it is like nurturing existing connections. Like you have to reach out to people, y'all. Like you have to like, you cannot have community or a network without. One, reaching out to people, staying in contact. Like, not necessarily saying you have to prove your value, but just like, staying in contact with people. And building relationships. I that's a thing. I like that's a good thing. Okay, well, shifting gears to our last segment, which is, under? Okay, so today's topic for Did you see, I actually remember the name, I literally looked it up right before this. But she did that ad for some sports betting company. She did that ad and she's basically naked. mean, since she's naked. And she's just covering her boobs up. Well, she's covered up, everything. But it's like, obviously you're naked. I just. I have so many questions because it's like you also did that good jeans ad for American Eagle early this year, sometime last year, which is also controversial. I don't know, just like looking at the ad, it's like on the one hand, sex sells, get your money girl, and on the other hand, it's like I don't know what you being naked has to do with like, let's work fitting ads. I don't know, I thought just popped into my mind. Well, the first thing is that loved Euphoria to the last season of Brooklyn Heart. The third season was not that great. But the third season, it matches with what she's doing in that. Okay, we've got spoilers. Should we have been watching Euphoria? probably not watching it. She plays this character named Cassie in Euphoria. In the third season, she's an OnlyFans model. okay. she's naked and like... I've never heard this part of story. Yes. I only knew Euphoria as just very like... I knew it was high school or it was drugs, but I never watched That's how the third season doesn't make any sense. It's how you go from high school student to only- I'll remember this for the same way. But it makes sense, she just- Stop blanching. Yeah, the commercial definitely matches that. So I could see why they thought to do that. I don't know why this box is painted, but my head is like... Sports gambling is like an addiction, right? I know you're wrong with Well, they call it corn now. They call it what? Corn, know, be mistake. I'm thinking like maybe that's the connection. Like I don't do I don't we were talking earlier I had a thought yeah, I was like what I mean, I don't ever think there's a coincidence in just like as a marketing major by the work to mark in advertising I don't ever feel like anything is by accident. I mean we go to other commercials like Converse and they're very, my god. So it's like, that's a, I don't want to talk about it every week, because I feel like every week there's something to talk about racial that's going on because y'all playing it. Anyways, we'll talk about CineSleep. I do feel like they are playing on the addiction of corn and the addiction of sports betting and it's just like, because it's like your brain, I and there was this whole thing of like it takes seven touches to like really impact people to add like seven touches of marketing. I could be like, add, email, phone call, whatever. Like it takes seven times to make a sale is what they say. And I just feel like there has to be to your point some psychological connection or thread they're trying to make between her being naked and like sports buddy. But I still just didn't. It's like, as a person, the things that she does, I just don't get. But also she probably made a shit ton of y'all. So it's like, do you not care? Because it's like, know that sex sells, do you just buy into that? probably a lot of men's fantasies in her tiny just like everybody has price that's a high topic for another day but I feel like everybody everybody has a price until they don't everybody so they don't have a price until you see a number in front of you you're like you look at celebrities what was it I don't know all the Lord behind this Calendary for long time didn't do a movie scene. everybody has a price. Maybe not. Maybe some people might differ is that they don't but I just feel like everybody has a price. Now your price may be $10 million. You're running the price. And so I just feel like okay on the one hand is it just her She just likes to say sales, whatever. But you know what I'm wondering? Because if they did come to her with a good price and she's already done this thing before, she's probably like, what's the difference? And they're giving me a big Yeah, but how long she would have seen me before? Girl, like she's emulating sex. Like they have sex toys, she's naked. Like you gotta see. there's bare tits in here. Like it's okay. They're tricking the more sensuous. That's her norm. Or she thought that the year before she'd already done this. Right, so she's like, are you gonna give me money? already done this? Like, whatever. Okay, what do y'all think in the comments? Any thoughts? Let's see if anybody has any thoughts about that. yeah, I do think there's a, I mean, that goes into a whole other tangential, just like sports betting and how I feel like, not to be all woke, but to go, think that they are trying to keep, I think they are trying to keep our attention by any means necessary. And it's like, okay, we think about even with alcohol sales, like alcohol sales. So now all sudden there's all these rules and stipulations around belief, because I don't want them to be in my book. There's all these stipulations around Mary Jane, because people stop consuming liquor so high. And so... Plentiful. And so now it's like, okay, I thought they're always trying to get our attention. And so then all of sudden, when we think about the last year or two sports betting has become like this huge thing. And it was never a thing. And now they have all these ads for even sports. Like it just becomes so easy. And now to your point, right there connecting the dots between that and corn. It's just a lot. It's just a lot. I feel like, you know, on the one hand, like as a woman and as somebody who advocates for people showing up in their sensuality and their sexuality, it gets to a point. It gets to a point. And I heard, I don't even know where this aired, but I remember watching a YouTube video, and it wasn't like they were censoring where the ad was shown. Some people were like, I'm watching something with my kids, and this pops up. Crazy, who has some comments left, D? I find there could have been better ways to get people's attention. Nothing wrong with city, but this wasn't a great move. And then someone said, Kevin, hello, Kevin. It's definitely intentional about how they're trying to market sports betting. Yeah, I just think, yeah, I'm laying it on know, okay, what do think? Yeah. my tech brain, I would love to see the metrics on the people who sports bet. Because also- Like what kind of metrics? How much money they make. Like are these people who think that? I just feel like the- I'm laughing because I know people that sports bed and I wish that I could have them get theirs. Yeah, I would love to know because I feel like people think they can put in $20 and make $1,000. I mean, can. That's what I'm saying. Yeah. So I feel like to take it a step further where you're going, I bet you there are similar dopamine triggers in people's brains between people who sports bed and people who- are addicted to COVID. I would love to. We're gonna find a set. Yeah. We are smart living. It's always deeper than people think. I think it's just everything is always deeper. People with the good genes and not to get mad. issue with Sinky Sweeney, but it's like, she just seems, okay, that would be my final question. Where do you draw the line between being an untamed woman and being like, hey, I'm gonna push the boundaries, I'm gonna show some skin, I'm gonna show some tits, I'm gonna whatever, do this raunchy, provocative ad versus like you. I I don't even know if that's her moral. I guess it would matter. It's gonna be swinging all morally correct person. I've never heard that. I guess that's awesome. We don't know her moral compass. And not to say that anything was immoral. Yeah. Because it's like, again, she's just the model in the commercial. A lot of other people had to run this ad. No seriously because if there's a possibility that this can be taken the wrong way, why don't you think about that? And I think that's where the line is caused. Okay, let's say... Versus like I'm doing something that's probably not right. Like if you're doing it, this is always my thought with people who make decisions on life and the things that they want to do. If what you're doing like truly freeing for you and you're not hurting or insulting people in the process, if you are then... And my question or my final thought I guess in regards to all this is like It's just like How far are you gonna take it it's like you're so early in your career and you're already kind of like me good jeans and with this I think it's snowback. You're already kind of making waves. I would just be curious. But this could be her agency because I don't know if you watched, was her name again? Housemaid. She kind of played a little like, doe-eyed, seductress-ish. That's not like, you gotta check, you don't have to because it's not that good. Season 3 of Your Forehead just kind of like. Emphasize the sentiment. No, it magnifies how normal this OnlyFans and influencer and IG baddie thing is. Like this is kind of normal in our world today. You think about I mean it is. But I think there are people, I mean, I think there were people who weren't necessarily like, upset about her age. But I did hear, and I didn't go, I didn't do all my research, guys, but I did hear that like a lot of female athletes were giving her backlash because they felt like it female professional athletes, which I would take it that for a person. I didn't take it as that. Also, I mean, I'm not a professional female athlete. I don't feel like, I didn't look at the commercial as like being derogatory or setting us back as women. It was just more so like, even it makes you think about like also kind of a TV, like history nerd, like a film nerd. I, to think about like where TV has come so far, like I remember I used to watch Pretty Little Liars and it was a big deal for them to start seeing like the B-word on TV and like just these same sex couples. So to go from like TV being so like certain shows weren't people weren't cussing. You weren't seeing certain types of relationships like to see us make even strive in that way. So now it's like you're happening on commercial. You know what I'm like, know, a commercial is crazy. You know what it might be? You are naked on a commercial! this wasn't even a super old commercial. outrage marketing. That's what they said. It is outrage marketing. If you do something that's so bizarre or so racist or so angry and nobody even talks about it and now everyone talks about this in a commercial, then she's butt ass naked on of that with all the people. Which is why they didn't conference that much attention back in the one conference in a while. Like I'm also the mindset of like... Everything is not deserve our attention. Stop giving things away. Let's if nothing you take nothing else away from them. So just give attention to the things that like deserve your attention. You know what I'm But we were at time. I told you I was like that. I enjoyed it so much. Thank you all for being so active in the comments as always. So fun. there any homework that you would take away? You leave people with to do or think about if you really want to do something y'all in your heart Don't be afraid like even through the hardships like don't let that stop you you're going to get past it I promise you And you're gonna be so much happier on the other side. That's take away Yeah, and my take away would be don't let them round you up with all this outrage marketing Yeah Well thank you all for tuning in.
