- 1:48Speaker 1: But her fame goes much deeper than who she's with.
- 1:51Speaker 1: She was the winner of the Miss America pageant in 1995,
- 1:54Speaker 1: runner-up to the Miss USA, and has been Playboy Playmate
- 1:57Speaker 1: of the Month. To talk about all this and where
- 1:59Speaker 1: she came from and where she's going, say hi to
- 2:02Speaker 1: Shayna Mochler.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Hi, Rachel. Thank you so much for having me.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Thank you for coming. I'm so happy to see you.
- 2:10Speaker 1: You look so beautiful.
- 2:11Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 2:12Speaker 2: You too.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Thank you. So I want to hear like how you
- 2:17Speaker 1: got started. Where are you from and what did you
- 2:19Speaker 1: want to be when you grew up? Sure.
- 2:23Speaker 2: I'm originally from Rhode Island, the smallest state in the union,
- 2:26Speaker 2: born and raised. I had a love for entertainment since
- 2:31Speaker 2: I was a very little girl. I would watch Barbie
- 2:33Speaker 2: commercials and I would see, you know, most girls wanted
- 2:36Speaker 2: the Barbies. I wanted to be the little girl on
- 2:38Speaker 2: the Barbie commercial. You know, I had a big love
- 2:41Speaker 2: for musicals like Singing in the Rain and And that's,
- 2:45Speaker 2: I just always had a passion for that and wanted
- 2:48Speaker 2: to get in the entertainment industry. I was a really
- 2:51Speaker 2: late bloomer and my parents were like, I don't think,
- 2:55Speaker 2: you know, this is, I wanted to be a model.
- 2:57Speaker 2: And back then that was the era of the supermodel, the,
- 3:00Speaker 2: you know, five, 10, Cindy Crawford's, Naomi Campbell's. And I
- 3:06Speaker 2: was 4'11 and 75 pounds and not growing. Yeah. My
- 3:10Speaker 2: parents were like, I don't think this is going to
- 3:13Speaker 2: work out for you. But I started doing kid modeling
- 3:16Speaker 2: in Providence and I got national campaigns as a junior model.
- 3:19Speaker 2: And then I eventually did grow and I started doing pageantry.
- 3:23Speaker 2: I was Miss Rhode Island Teen USA, Miss Teen All American.
- 3:28Speaker 2: I did Miss New York USA. That's when I finally
- 3:30Speaker 2: became Miss USA. And that's what got me to Los Angeles.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Got it. So tell me what that was like being
- 3:38Speaker 1: in the pageant. So how do you get involved in that?
- 3:40Speaker 1: How do you find the best swimsuit? How do you
- 3:44Speaker 1: find what you want to talk about? Tell me all
- 3:45Speaker 1: about it.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Um, well, you know, because I was so hungry to
- 3:49Speaker 2: be in the entertainment industry and there just wasn't one
- 3:52Speaker 2: in Providence, Rhode Island, I did everything I could. So
- 3:55Speaker 2: I did mannequin modeling in malls. I handed out perfume
- 3:58Speaker 2: samples and we had a John Casablanca's modeling school. I
- 4:02Speaker 2: don't know if you remember those.
- 4:03Speaker 1: I remember that.
- 4:05Speaker 2: And I went to one and the producers and the
- 4:08Speaker 2: recruiters for the pageant would go to the modeling school
- 4:11Speaker 2: and they saw me and they were like, you should
- 4:13Speaker 2: really do modeling. our pageant. And I was like, oh, okay.
- 4:18Speaker 2: You know, the first year I did really good. I
- 4:19Speaker 2: was first runner up, but I had no clue what
- 4:22Speaker 2: I was doing. But my mom and dad knew how
- 4:25Speaker 2: much I loved it. And, you know, pageantry is really
- 4:27Speaker 2: cool because it's not just about winning the crown. Sometimes
- 4:30Speaker 2: you really learn about yourself and you meet friends and
- 4:33Speaker 2: there's lots of fun activities and And I just enjoyed it.
- 4:36Speaker 2: So I went back the next year and I ended
- 4:39Speaker 2: up winning. But I got coaches. I worked with coaches.
- 4:42Speaker 2: I worked with etiquette coaches. I did media training, makeup classes, walking,
- 4:47Speaker 2: like you name it. And that's what I actually do today.
- 4:49Speaker 3: I give back to the girls that I work with today.
- 4:51Speaker 3: I kind of help them on their journeys.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Wow.
- 4:55Speaker 1: And so what was like, tell me like one of
- 4:57Speaker 1: your experiences, what was the best time you had doing it?
- 5:01Speaker 2: Um, gosh, I guess winning Miss New York USA was really,
- 5:05Speaker 2: really exciting. There were over 200 girls. I was only 19,
- 5:09Speaker 2: 18 and a half years old. And I was going
- 5:12Speaker 2: up women who were, you know, up against women who
- 5:14Speaker 2: were 28 years old, you know, who graduated college. Some
- 5:17Speaker 2: of them, you know, were attorneys. And so that crown
- 5:21Speaker 2: for me was very, very exciting. I learned a lot
- 5:24Speaker 2: about myself and I obviously got to go to Miss
- 5:26Speaker 2: USA and compete on on CBS with Dick Clark and
- 5:30Speaker 2: all these incredible people with 50 other women across the country.
- 5:34Speaker 2: And it was a really incredible time. I got to
- 5:36Speaker 2: work with hundreds of different charities too, which was like
- 5:40Speaker 2: epic for me.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Oh, that's amazing. So then you said you, that's what
- 5:44Speaker 1: took you out to LA.
- 5:45Speaker 4: What did you want to do next? I, you know,
- 5:48Speaker 4: I started off modeling right out of high school.
- 5:51Speaker 2: I moved to Miami, New York, Boston, Providence. I modeled
- 5:54Speaker 2: all over the East coast and I was actually really successful,
- 5:58Speaker 2: but I always wanted to be an actress. I always
- 6:01Speaker 2: wanted to be on television or in movies. So getting
- 6:03Speaker 2: to move to LA and be Miss USA, I got
- 6:06Speaker 2: to travel the country, work with charities, but I got
- 6:09Speaker 2: to sign with William Morris and that was massive. I,
- 6:14Speaker 2: you know, I got to, I got on my first
- 6:17Speaker 2: television show, Pacific Blue as a series regular, which was
- 6:20Speaker 2: really cool. But I always, always wanted to be an
- 6:23Speaker 2: actress and, you know, we're always stereotyped as women, right?
- 6:27Speaker 2: Like it's like, oh, you want to be a model? Oh,
- 6:29Speaker 2: you can't do that. Oh, well, models can't act. You know,
- 6:32Speaker 2: pageant girls can't, you know, model. Models can't act. And
- 6:36Speaker 2: so it was really kind of cool getting to break
- 6:38Speaker 2: those stereotypes and just keep doing and pursuing what I loved.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Right. And so how long did you act when you
- 6:45Speaker 1: went to LA? What else did you do?
- 6:47Speaker 2: Gosh, I really, I came right out of the gates running.
- 6:52Speaker 2: I was on Pacific Blue, CSI, NCIS, Entourage. I think
- 6:57Speaker 2: I'm really well known for being in The Wedding Singer.
- 7:00Speaker 2: I was the stewardess who said, you know, there's this
- 7:05Speaker 2: creeping coach who thinks he's Don Johnson. He said I
- 7:07Speaker 2: was grade A top choice meat. So that's like a
- 7:10Speaker 2: very famous line that everyone loves from the wedding singer.
- 7:13Speaker 2: I was in movies like Love Stinks, all kinds of great,
- 7:18Speaker 2: great projects. I did hosting. And then eventually I got
- 7:22Speaker 2: on my reality show on MTV with my ex-husband.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Right. So before we get into that, now, how did
- 7:28Speaker 1: you meet Billy Idol? Didn't you meet him on that
- 7:30Speaker 1: movie that you just mentioned?
- 7:32Speaker 2: I met Billy Idol on the set of The Wedding Singer.
- 7:35Speaker 2: He was in the scene that I was in. And
- 7:37Speaker 2: It's so crazy because I had such a crush on
- 7:39Speaker 2: him in the eighties when I was like nine, I
- 7:43Speaker 2: was like nine years old. And I had this big
- 7:45Speaker 2: Billy Idol pin that I would like wear my jean jacket.
- 7:48Speaker 2: And I thought he was so cool. So when I
- 7:51Speaker 2: met him, when I was like 19, you know, he
- 7:53Speaker 2: was a lot older then, but I was still like,
- 7:55Speaker 2: Oh my God, it's Billy Idol. I was so like starstruck.
- 7:58Speaker 2: It was so stupid. But he was really nice. We
- 8:01Speaker 2: ended up dating for like three or four months. It's
- 8:03Speaker 2: kind of funny.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Amazing. So Do you have any good memories of him
- 8:07Speaker 1: or things you want to share about him that we
- 8:09Speaker 1: wouldn't know?
- 8:10Speaker 2: I mean, it was, you know, it was just really funny.
- 8:13Speaker 2: I just remember being on set of The Wedding Singer
- 8:17Speaker 2: and I was so nervous because of him. I had
- 8:20Speaker 2: one line. I had that one line, the line of,
- 8:23Speaker 2: you know, this creeping coach thinks he's Don Johnson. And
- 8:27Speaker 2: it was the last shot of the night. It was
- 8:28Speaker 2: like 11 o'clock at night. Everyone had been working all day.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Everyone wanted to go home. And, you know, Billy was
- 8:34Speaker 2: just sitting there just waiting for me to spit this
- 8:37Speaker 2: line out. And I couldn't get the line out. Like,
- 8:40Speaker 2: I couldn't say it right. Like, I was like, this
- 8:43Speaker 2: guy thinks I'm top choice grade.
- 8:47Speaker 5: They think you're done for the day, but they don't
- 8:50Speaker 5: know about the drawer. The drawer. Just the one square
- 8:55Speaker 5: before bed. Or two, you know. Nobody's watching. You deserve
- 9:02Speaker 5: a treat.
- 9:06Speaker 6: With eight flavors to choose from, you can choose the
- 9:09Speaker 6: flavor you favor with Cadbury Dairy Milk.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Gee, um, oh, and they, it took me like 15,
- 9:19Speaker 2: 20 takes to do it. And I had one line.
- 9:24Speaker 2: And to this day, I, I went home and I cried.
- 9:27Speaker 2: And I remember the next day I had to go
- 9:28Speaker 2: back to set and Adam made like this song and
- 9:31Speaker 2: he would call me 16 take Shana, you know, you know,
- 9:34Speaker 2: he makes those goofy little songs up and, you know,
- 9:37Speaker 2: he made light of it and stuff. But for me,
- 9:39Speaker 2: it was the most, like, I was so embarrassed. And so,
- 9:42Speaker 2: but They all made me feel really good the next day.
- 9:44Speaker 2: And Billy was really cool about it. Right.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Obviously.
- 9:49Speaker 2: I still get to go on a date with him.
- 9:51Speaker 1: That's right. Obviously, you got his attention, I guess.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:55Speaker 1: So after that is when you met Oscar De La Hoya, correct?
- 9:58Speaker 2: Yes, correct. Yes.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Tell us about that. First of all, how'd you meet him?
- 10:02Speaker 2: Gosh, I met Oscar, you know, we used to run
- 10:06Speaker 2: around Hollywood and go to the nightclubs. And after we
- 10:09Speaker 2: would all go to this place called Cantor's, this like
- 10:12Speaker 2: Jewish deli that we would all, you know, but I
- 10:15Speaker 2: would always, one of my best friends worked security. And
- 10:18Speaker 2: so we would all like run around to the different clubs.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Then we would go meet our friend who was doing
- 10:23Speaker 2: security at this club. And one time the club was
- 10:26Speaker 2: still going, we were early. And I remember this guy
- 10:30Speaker 2: walked by and, And he had like this big crowd
- 10:34Speaker 2: around him and my friend and this other security guard
- 10:37Speaker 2: came up and they were like, dude, do you know
- 10:38Speaker 2: who that is? Dude, do you know who that is?
- 10:41Speaker 2: And they were like, that's Oscar de la Hoya. And
- 10:43Speaker 2: I was like, oh, cool. Is that like the fighter guy? Like,
- 10:47Speaker 2: I really know. I just thought he was like cute.
- 10:49Speaker 2: I was like, oh yeah, he's like, I've heard about him.
- 10:52Speaker 2: He's like the one all the women like love. He's
- 10:55Speaker 2: like really cute. And they're like, do you want to
- 10:57Speaker 2: meet him? And I was like, sure, I'll go meet him.
- 11:00Speaker 2: And they brought me over to him and we just
- 11:02Speaker 2: like locked eyes and had a drink and that was it.
- 11:07Speaker 2: We were like inseparable. Yeah.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:11Speaker 2: We danced like all night. And then he invited me
- 11:13Speaker 2: up to Big Bear where he was training for his fight.
- 11:17Speaker 2: We went to a, we flew private to this like
- 11:21Speaker 2: well to a heavyweight champion fight in Vegas. And it
- 11:24Speaker 2: was just really, really fun.
- 11:26Speaker 1: What was that like going to his?
- 11:27Speaker 2: Gosh, watch, you know, I'll, I'll be honest. I don't
- 11:30Speaker 2: like watching the men I love fight at all. It
- 11:35Speaker 2: was the most nerve wracking thing to watch him fight.
- 11:37Speaker 2: I knew he was prepared. I knew he was very talented.
- 11:40Speaker 2: I knew he was, you know, going to be just fine,
- 11:43Speaker 2: but you know, it's a lot of hard work and sacrifice.
- 11:46Speaker 3: You know, you can't have sex with them for like
- 11:49Speaker 3: the whole time they're training.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Yeah. Oh, really? Yeah, they don't let you have sex
- 11:53Speaker 2: with them while they're training. At least his camp didn't.
- 11:57Speaker 2: I remember his father being like, it's important that, you know,
- 12:00Speaker 2: he's focused and you cannot have sex with him. And
- 12:02Speaker 2: I'd be like, okay. Yeah, it was so crazy.
- 12:06Speaker 1: So you couldn't be a distraction, probably.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Definitely could not be a distraction. But, you know, I mean,
- 12:12Speaker 2: they were up in Big Bear. They were there for
- 12:14Speaker 2: months at a time. He was up from five in
- 12:16Speaker 2: the morning training, you know, diet, nutrition, you know, sparring. So,
- 12:22Speaker 2: you know, it was, it was tough, but you know,
- 12:24Speaker 2: when he would win, it was such a fantastic celebration,
- 12:28Speaker 2: but you know, it was so much accumulating to that
- 12:30Speaker 2: actual fight. So it was very nerve wracking. And just
- 12:33Speaker 2: watching someone you love get punched in the face is never,
- 12:36Speaker 2: you know, a good feeling.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Right. I would have felt like Adrian and Rocky. It
- 12:41Speaker 1: would have been so exciting. So how long did you
- 12:45Speaker 1: guys end up dating?
- 12:46Speaker 2: We were together for three years. We got engaged, um,
- 12:50Speaker 2: about six months into our relationship. Um, I also became
- 12:54Speaker 2: pregnant with our, our gorgeous daughter who's now who just
- 12:57Speaker 2: turned 24. I can't even take it. Yeah. She just
- 13:01Speaker 2: turned 24. Uh, she's a spitting image of him. She's
- 13:05Speaker 2: so absolutely beautiful. And, um, yeah, yeah, we were, we
- 13:09Speaker 2: were together for about three years. Yeah.
- 13:11Speaker 1: So I read how you guys broke up, which seems
- 13:15Speaker 1: a little bit crazy. Is that true? Tell us what
- 13:18Speaker 1: actually happened.
- 13:19Speaker 2: It was true. Yeah. It's pretty crazy. I actually just did.
- 13:23Speaker 2: He's actually doing an HBO documentary right now. That's going
- 13:25Speaker 2: to be coming out in September and I get really
- 13:29Speaker 2: in depth. I was actually surprised that they really wanted
- 13:31Speaker 2: me to talk about it to the extent that they did,
- 13:33Speaker 2: but they, they said, nope, this isn't a fluff piece.
- 13:36Speaker 3: This is, you know, we're really going to share with
- 13:38Speaker 3: the public.
- 13:39Speaker 2: You know, the, the nitty and the gritty. So I
- 13:41Speaker 2: was like, okay, well, here you go. But yeah, you know,
- 13:45Speaker 2: we were together and, you know, we were, I didn't
- 13:48Speaker 2: think we were having too many problems, but we were
- 13:53Speaker 2: having normal, I think, you know, we just had a baby,
- 13:55Speaker 2: you know, new, new parent kind of problems, things like that.
- 13:59Speaker 2: And he was traveling a lot and he was, you know,
- 14:01Speaker 2: in training a lot as well. So, um, I didn't
- 14:04Speaker 2: think things were too bad, but, uh, we were, you know,
- 14:07Speaker 2: he said, I'm going to go to New York. I'm
- 14:08Speaker 2: going to go do David Letterman. When I come back,
- 14:10Speaker 2: let's just start fresh. And, you know, we'll, we'll just,
- 14:14Speaker 2: you know, he's like, go buy some art, you know,
- 14:16Speaker 2: go get some things for the house and we'll just
- 14:18Speaker 2: start fresh. I love you. And I was like, okay, okay.
- 14:21Speaker 2: So that's what I did that weekend. I went like shopping.
- 14:23Speaker 2: I got some things for the house, you know, I
- 14:25Speaker 2: was taking care of the baby. She was about one
- 14:27Speaker 2: and a half. And, um, And when he came back,
- 14:31Speaker 2: I didn't hear from him. And I remember that night,
- 14:34Speaker 2: it was like a Monday or Tuesday night and the
- 14:36Speaker 2: Latin Grammys were on. And I was at home with
- 14:40Speaker 2: my girlfriend and my mom and we were watching the
- 14:42Speaker 2: Latin Grammys. And all of a sudden they said, next
- 14:46Speaker 2: up on the red carpet is Oscar de la Hoya.
- 14:48Speaker 2: And I was like, what do you mean? And it
- 14:51Speaker 2: was in LA. And I was like, he's supposed to
- 14:53Speaker 2: be in New York doing Letterman, like. Why is he
- 14:56Speaker 2: in LA at the Latin Grammys? Why am I not
- 14:58Speaker 2: with him at the Latin Grammys? I'm so confused right now.
- 15:01Speaker 2: You know, it was very strange. So we were all
- 15:04Speaker 2: kind of like waiting for this commercial to come back.
- 15:07Speaker 2: And it was like the longest, you know, 60 seconds
- 15:09Speaker 2: of my life. And then there he was with his ex-wife, Millie.
- 15:14Speaker 2: But at the time he was just on the red
- 15:16Speaker 2: carpet with another woman holding hands. And I just remember,
- 15:22Speaker 2: you know, like in Kill Bill when that like, eee,
- 15:24Speaker 2: that like sound. I just remember like not hearing anything
- 15:28Speaker 2: and just like my heart just breaking and, and I
- 15:32Speaker 2: was humiliated and I just was like, what the hell
- 15:35Speaker 2: is happening? And he was holding her hand and like
- 15:39Speaker 2: walking like they were a couple. And, and I just
- 15:42Speaker 2: was at home and our baby was in her nursery
- 15:46Speaker 2: in the other room. And I just, you know, I
- 15:48Speaker 2: just lost sense of, reality for a good couple of
- 15:53Speaker 2: minutes there. And I remember just crying and my mom
- 15:55Speaker 2: and my girlfriend consoling me and being like, you know,
- 15:58Speaker 2: obviously I tried to call him. No one was answering.
- 16:01Speaker 2: And the next day they just had an attorney come
- 16:02Speaker 2: to the house and ask if the baby and I
- 16:04Speaker 2: would go to a hotel. And I said, absolutely not.
- 16:07Speaker 2: You know, this is our home. Like things have to
- 16:10Speaker 2: be like taught. Like I need to talk to someone
- 16:12Speaker 2: like I need help here, you know? So it was, um,
- 16:16Speaker 2: and I was only like 25 years old. I mean,
- 16:19Speaker 2: I look back now and I thought I was this grownup,
- 16:22Speaker 2: you know, now that I'm 48 and I look back,
- 16:24Speaker 2: I'm like, ah, it was just a baby. You know,
- 16:26Speaker 2: it was just a baby. You had a baby. And,
- 16:30Speaker 2: you know, it was actually like a pretty scary time,
- 16:32Speaker 2: but I got through it.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Yeah, you did get through it. And that was a
- 16:35Speaker 1: woman he ended up marrying later. Is that what you said?
- 16:38Speaker 2: He did.
- 16:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:39Speaker 2: He ended up marrying her and he was with her
- 16:40Speaker 2: for about, I think like 10 years. Yeah. They have
- 16:43Speaker 2: three children together.
- 16:44Speaker 5: Okay.
- 16:45Speaker 1: So it didn't end up being a one night stand
- 16:47Speaker 1: per se.
- 16:47Speaker 2: So that should make you feel a little better. Yeah.
- 16:50Speaker 2: I mean, it's like, you know, hey, I get you
- 16:52Speaker 2: fall out of love with people. I get things change.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Like at least give me the I still feel to
- 16:58Speaker 2: this day. And I even said this in the documentary.
- 17:00Speaker 2: I mean, you know, you can you can let someone
- 17:03Speaker 2: go with dignity.
- 17:05Speaker 5: They think you're done for the day, but they don't
- 17:08Speaker 5: know about the drawer. The drawer. Just the one square
- 17:13Speaker 5: before bed or two, you know. Nobody's watching. You deserve
- 17:20Speaker 5: a treat.
- 17:24Speaker 6: With eight flavors to choose from, you can choose the
- 17:27Speaker 6: flavor you favor with Cadbury dairy milk.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Honesty, you know, that was just like really, really humiliating.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I'm sure. So how did your life end
- 17:42Speaker 1: up being with him and co-parenting? Do you guys get
- 17:44Speaker 1: along now? Do you talk now?
- 17:47Speaker 2: Um we did not co-parent at all he just left
- 17:50Speaker 2: um he told me that if i went and um
- 17:54Speaker 2: uh if i went and um sued for palimony um
- 17:57Speaker 2: obviously i was going to get child support but if
- 17:59Speaker 2: i sued for palimony um he wouldn't see my daughter
- 18:02Speaker 2: and i till she was 16 years old which i
- 18:05Speaker 2: thought was just an idle threat i didn't i was
- 18:07Speaker 2: like how would you not see her like who would
- 18:09Speaker 2: do that but he did he didn't um he didn't
- 18:12Speaker 2: see his daughter and I until she was about 16
- 18:16Speaker 2: years old. He was financially very supportive, which I'm very
- 18:21Speaker 2: grateful for. I'm very thankful that I had that support
- 18:24Speaker 2: so that I could raise her the best to my
- 18:26Speaker 2: ability as a single mom, basically. And then when he
- 18:32Speaker 2: did kind of come back, he was really good there
- 18:34Speaker 2: for a little while. And we actually were co-parenting and
- 18:38Speaker 2: We did have some talks. He did apologize to me about,
- 18:42Speaker 2: you know, how things were handled, but it was a
- 18:44Speaker 2: very long time to wait for an apology. And it
- 18:48Speaker 2: was a very, you know, I look back, I can't
- 18:52Speaker 2: change anything about it. I feel like I did the
- 18:54Speaker 2: best that I could as a mom to give my
- 18:57Speaker 2: daughter everything that she, you know, that I could possibly
- 19:00Speaker 2: do on my own without his presence. I tried to
- 19:03Speaker 2: surround her with positive male role models. I would even
- 19:06Speaker 2: ask the schools, you know, like, put her in a
- 19:08Speaker 2: class with a male teacher. You know, I want her
- 19:10Speaker 2: to have strong male role models. I did everything I could. Um,
- 19:14Speaker 2: we were getting along pretty good, but I guess he
- 19:17Speaker 2: has a new girlfriend now and, um, we don't speak
- 19:20Speaker 2: anymore and I'm okay with it.
- 19:23Speaker 1: And what about his relationship with his daughter, your daughter?
- 19:28Speaker 1: Are they now in touch?
- 19:31Speaker 2: They were working. They were doing really good. They were
- 19:33Speaker 2: having a pretty great relationship, but I really don't know
- 19:36Speaker 2: where it stands right now. I think since he's entered
- 19:39Speaker 2: a new relationship, I think, you know, he's just one
- 19:42Speaker 2: of those guys that like, you know, shifts when he's
- 19:44Speaker 2: with a certain kind of woman. You know, some guys
- 19:46Speaker 2: are like that. Some guys, they just really... they just,
- 19:50Speaker 2: they just, um, they, I mean, women do it too,
- 19:53Speaker 2: I guess, you know, I mean, sometimes when people get
- 19:55Speaker 2: into new relationships, they just, you know, they go MIA.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Everybody else doesn't matter. And their whole life. Yeah.
- 20:04Speaker 2: People just do that sometimes.
- 20:05Speaker 3: And so, um, you know, just time, time changes things.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Okay.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Um, so in between, so it sounds like you got
- 20:13Speaker 1: a lot of financial support. You didn't necessarily have to
- 20:15Speaker 1: run and go get a job.
- 20:16Speaker 2: I definitely did not have to struggle. And I'm, and I'm,
- 20:19Speaker 2: and I got to really give my daughter a great education.
- 20:22Speaker 2: I got to give, you know, my daughter a very
- 20:25Speaker 2: comfortable life where, and I, and for that, I'm truly,
- 20:28Speaker 2: truly thankful for that.
- 20:30Speaker 1: So did you, that's great. So did you end up
- 20:32Speaker 1: being able to take a little bit of break from
- 20:34Speaker 1: work and just be a mom for a And what'd
- 20:40Speaker 1: you do during that?
- 20:40Speaker 4: Just literally be like a single mom? I, yeah, I mean,
- 20:44Speaker 4: I was really just kind of a single mom and,
- 20:47Speaker 4: you know, I, I shortly after about two or three
- 20:49Speaker 4: years later, I met Travis when she was about, um,
- 20:53Speaker 4: about three, three or.
- 20:54Speaker 2: Four years old. Um, but, um, I also started directing
- 20:58Speaker 2: my pageants, you know, I'm the executive director for Miss Nevada,
- 21:01Speaker 2: USA and Miss Utah, USA. Um, Um, that's a full-time
- 21:06Speaker 2: year long job. So I always worked on my pageants
- 21:09Speaker 2: and kind of gave back to my girls. Um, but
- 21:11Speaker 2: back then I was the director for Miss California USA, which,
- 21:15Speaker 2: which was pretty massive. So, um, yeah, I kind of
- 21:17Speaker 2: did my pageants. I did my acting gigs. I still
- 21:20Speaker 2: worked and, um, and I took care of my daughter.
- 21:23Speaker 1: And somewhere in there, was that when you were offered Playboy?
- 21:27Speaker 2: Yes, correct. Yes. I was offered Playboy in like 2001.
- 21:32Speaker 2: I was Miss December 2001. They had offered it to
- 21:36Speaker 2: me when I was on Pacific Blue, but Oscar didn't
- 21:38Speaker 2: want me to do it. And so I turned it down.
- 21:40Speaker 2: They actually offered me a celebrity pictorial and I turned
- 21:43Speaker 2: it down. And then when they came back again, they said, well,
- 21:46Speaker 2: we want you to be a playmate this time, not
- 21:48Speaker 2: a celebrity. And I was just like, you know, I
- 21:51Speaker 2: really don't care. I think Playboy is so awesome. I
- 21:53Speaker 2: think it would be really fun. And it was one
- 21:55Speaker 2: of the best things I ever did. I just love
- 21:57Speaker 2: my Playboy family. And it was such an honor to
- 22:02Speaker 2: be a part of it.
- 22:03Speaker 1: So what was that like? Did you get to meet Hugh?
- 22:07Speaker 2: Oh, God. Yeah. I met Hef when I was Miss
- 22:09Speaker 2: USA when I was 19. I did a charity event
- 22:12Speaker 2: at the Playboy Mansion with all the chefs in L.A.
- 22:14Speaker 2: And I remember he came up to me and he said,
- 22:17Speaker 2: you know, you truly are a beautiful young woman. And
- 22:19Speaker 2: I thought, that's the coolest compliment ever coming from the
- 22:23Speaker 2: coolest man. You know, just because he, you know, I mean,
- 22:28Speaker 2: he's seen all the most beautiful women in the world
- 22:30Speaker 2: and has dated. He didn't want to date me. He
- 22:31Speaker 2: was married to Kimberly at the time. He was just
- 22:35Speaker 2: being kind. And I met Hef so many times. I
- 22:39Speaker 2: played backgammon with Hef. I would go to the Sunday
- 22:41Speaker 2: movie nights. He opened up his home to us. We
- 22:45Speaker 2: would have gaming and volleyball.
- 22:47Speaker 3: And go in the grotto and we could tan and
- 22:49Speaker 3: use his gym.
- 22:50Speaker 2: And he had wonderful buffet dinners for us. And of course,
- 22:54Speaker 2: we watched the newest movies out. And it was really
- 22:56Speaker 2: just like wonderful friends. And no one objectified us or
- 23:01Speaker 2: made us feel sexually harassed. It was just class. And
- 23:06Speaker 2: it was always so much fun.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Did you end up seeing the documentary made about him? Playboy?
- 23:13Speaker 2: I refuse to watch it. I won't watch the documentary.
- 23:17Speaker 2: I have personally been up there so many times and
- 23:20Speaker 2: for so many years, I've watched so many of those women,
- 23:24Speaker 2: a lot of those girls who claim to be girlfriends
- 23:27Speaker 2: and playmates. And I just, I think it's disgusting what
- 23:32Speaker 2: they're saying about him. And I think it's absolutely horrid.
- 23:34Speaker 2: He was a wonderful man to a lot of, a
- 23:37Speaker 2: lot of women. He helped a lot of women. He
- 23:39Speaker 2: put a lot of women up. who were dealing with
- 23:42Speaker 2: drug habits, poverty. He helped women with their children when
- 23:45Speaker 2: their husbands left them. He did a lot of incredible
- 23:48Speaker 2: things for a lot of people. And I think talking
- 23:52Speaker 2: about him after his passing is just vile.
- 23:55Speaker 1: I won't say- Without giving him an opportunity to fire
- 23:59Speaker 1: back or have his say, right?
- 24:00Speaker 2: Of course, yeah. I think taking shots at someone who's
- 24:04Speaker 2: passed away, who- can't defend himself. I just think this
- 24:08Speaker 2: is in tarnishing the name of someone who is really
- 24:12Speaker 2: good to people. I just think it's vile.
- 24:15Speaker 1: So why do you think some of those women said
- 24:17Speaker 1: what they said? Do you think that might've been their
- 24:19Speaker 1: experience or they're just looking for fame or what do
- 24:21Speaker 1: you think?
- 24:22Speaker 2: I think they're looking for money and fame. 100%.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, I'm glad to hear that wasn't your experience.
- 24:29Speaker 1: I had also, I also had met him and he
- 24:31Speaker 1: had been very, you know, respectful and kind, and I
- 24:34Speaker 1: did not have that experience as well. So when you
- 24:37Speaker 1: were doing that, you were dating for a brief amount
- 24:39Speaker 1: of time, Dennis Quaid, right?
- 24:41Speaker 2: I did date Dennis. Yeah. For, for on and off
- 24:45Speaker 2: for almost a year.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh, so not too short of a time. And
- 24:49Speaker 1: did he have something to do with your decision to
- 24:52Speaker 1: do Playboy at this point?
- 24:54Speaker 2: I talked to Dennis about Playboy. You know, it was
- 24:57Speaker 2: something that I really, you know, thought about because I
- 25:00Speaker 2: really always wanted to be an actress. I love being
- 25:04Speaker 2: on scripted television shows. And, you know, at the time
- 25:08Speaker 2: it was still a little taboo. And I wanted, you know,
- 25:11Speaker 2: I really thought long and hard if it would hurt
- 25:13Speaker 2: my career, if it would hurt my image, if people
- 25:16Speaker 2: want to take me seriously. But really at the end
- 25:18Speaker 2: of the day, the roles that I was being casted
- 25:21Speaker 2: for were always the blondes.
- 25:23Speaker 5: They think you're done for the day, but they don't
- 25:26Speaker 5: know about the drawer. The drawer. Just the one square
- 25:31Speaker 5: before bed. Or two, you know. Nobody's watching. You deserve
- 25:38Speaker 5: a treat.
- 25:42Speaker 6: With eight flavours to choose from, you can choose the
- 25:45Speaker 6: flavour you favour with Cadbury Dairy Milk.
- 25:53Speaker 2: On bimbo or the pretty girl or the, I wasn't,
- 25:57Speaker 2: you know, no one was giving me the opportunity to
- 26:00Speaker 2: showcase my, my talents. I was going to have to,
- 26:02Speaker 2: you know, dye my hair black and cut it and,
- 26:05Speaker 2: you know, to try, I wasn't going to do that. So, um,
- 26:09Speaker 2: you know, I just, I talked to Dennis, you know,
- 26:11Speaker 2: and he was like, I really don't think it's going
- 26:13Speaker 2: to bother, you know, hurt your career either way. Just,
- 26:15Speaker 2: you know, go have fun, use the press. you know,
- 26:18Speaker 2: get some opportunity from it and enjoy it. And he
- 26:21Speaker 2: was right. It didn't hurt my career at all. And
- 26:23Speaker 2: it was actually a really awesome, awesome experience. And I
- 26:28Speaker 2: still worked. I still did lots of great TV and
- 26:31Speaker 2: movie projects.
- 26:32Speaker 1: So after that, did you find you got more notoriety?
- 26:35Speaker 1: Did you become more famous from doing that?
- 26:38Speaker 2: Oh God. Yeah. It was so great. You know, back
- 26:40Speaker 2: then Playboy had like a modeling agency and they would
- 26:43Speaker 2: send us out on all kinds of stuff. I did
- 26:45Speaker 2: lots of hosting for the E channel. I don't think,
- 26:47Speaker 2: I don't know if you remember that show. It was
- 26:49Speaker 2: like party central or something like that. Brooke Burke, you know,
- 26:53Speaker 2: she hosted that one show and yeah, I got to
- 26:56Speaker 2: host tons of shows on E and yeah, it really
- 27:01Speaker 2: kind of spiraled into all these, these great opportunities. It was,
- 27:04Speaker 2: it was awesome.
- 27:06Speaker 1: So from there, you went on to meet Travis. How
- 27:08Speaker 1: did you meet him?
- 27:10Speaker 2: I met Travis out of the nightclub on sunset. I
- 27:14Speaker 2: forgot what it was called. It was over at the
- 27:15Speaker 2: sunset marquee, not sky bar, but it was this other
- 27:18Speaker 2: little bar. And my girlfriend liked one of his bandmates
- 27:21Speaker 2: and I didn't know who Blink-182 was in any capacity.
- 27:26Speaker 2: So I just remember going in and, you know, back
- 27:30Speaker 2: then he had a Mohawk and I know lots of
- 27:32Speaker 2: people wear Mohawks now, but back then they did not.
- 27:36Speaker 2: And he had lots of tattoos and, you know, Oscar
- 27:38Speaker 2: was pretty clean cut. And so was Dennis, you know,
- 27:41Speaker 2: they were pretty clean cut guys, no tattoos, things like that.
- 27:44Speaker 2: And I just remember my girlfriend, you know, was talking
- 27:47Speaker 2: to his bandmate and I was like, and they were like, oh,
- 27:50Speaker 2: he's in the middle of getting a divorce. And I
- 27:52Speaker 2: was like, oof, I don't want any, I don't want
- 27:55Speaker 2: to be involved with a guy who's in the middle
- 27:56Speaker 2: of a divorce. You know, I was like, I'm single.
- 28:00Speaker 2: I'm feeling finally in a really good place after Dennis
- 28:03Speaker 2: and Oscar. And, but I was like, I'll be your wingman.
- 28:06Speaker 2: I'll hang out with, you know, I'll be your wing girl.
- 28:09Speaker 2: And I just remember being like, kind of like, holy shit.
- 28:13Speaker 2: He has like this Mohawk and tattoos and neck tattoos.
- 28:16Speaker 2: And I was like, whoa. But we just like, I
- 28:20Speaker 2: remember we just talked and we just like, it was
- 28:23Speaker 2: like the same thing. Like with Oscar, it was like kismet.
- 28:26Speaker 2: And I just, I knew, I knew I was going
- 28:28Speaker 2: to marry him. I knew I was going to have
- 28:29Speaker 2: like his children and I knew it was going to
- 28:32Speaker 2: be a very epic sort of relationship.
- 28:35Speaker 4: Wow.
- 28:36Speaker 1: So- What is he like as a person? Is he affectionate?
- 28:39Speaker 1: Is he like just as affectionate as we see these
- 28:42Speaker 1: days with you?
- 28:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, sorry, I'm getting comfortable. Yeah, he's he's
- 28:49Speaker 2: very affectionate. He's a very, very romantic man. I mean, obviously,
- 28:53Speaker 2: you can see that even in his newfound relationship. He's
- 28:56Speaker 2: very romantic. He's he's a big gift giver. He's very loving.
- 28:59Speaker 2: And he's very funny. You know, I don't think a
- 29:01Speaker 2: lot of people see that kind of side of him.
- 29:03Speaker 2: He's actually very, very funny guy. Cause he's, he comes
- 29:05Speaker 2: across normally very quiet when he's out and around people,
- 29:08Speaker 2: but when you're, when you're close to him, he's a
- 29:10Speaker 2: very funny guy.
- 29:11Speaker 1: So you guys ended up having two children together, correct?
- 29:15Speaker 2: Yes. Yes. We have 19 and Alabama who's 17.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Amazing names. And so how, how was he as a dad?
- 29:25Speaker 2: He's a great dad. Yeah, he's a he's a great dad.
- 29:28Speaker 2: You know, we've had our ups and down co parenting
- 29:30Speaker 2: through the years as well. I think co parenting in
- 29:32Speaker 2: general is just a very difficult thing to do. Yeah. Yeah.
- 29:36Speaker 1: So and how did you guys finally break up? How
- 29:39Speaker 1: long were you together?
- 29:39Speaker 2: Uh we were married for four years but we still
- 29:44Speaker 2: stayed together for like another four years kind of off
- 29:48Speaker 2: and on living together trying to co-parent you know together
- 29:51Speaker 2: but uh it was just a difficult time.
- 29:55Speaker 1: Right So talk to me about his plane crash for
- 29:58Speaker 1: a second. Where were you when you heard about it?
- 30:02Speaker 2: Oh God, we were actually working on things and I
- 30:05Speaker 2: was in our home and Alabama was actually in the
- 30:09Speaker 2: bed with me and the other kids were sleeping and
- 30:13Speaker 2: he called me and he was about to get on
- 30:15Speaker 2: the private jet and he was just really nervous. And
- 30:18Speaker 2: he was saying, you know, this jet isn't like the
- 30:21Speaker 2: other jet. You know, this was actually the last gig
- 30:24Speaker 2: he was doing after a very long tour. And I
- 30:26Speaker 2: just said, you know, honey, just get on the jet,
- 30:29Speaker 2: like get home. And then we can just enjoy our
- 30:31Speaker 2: time together, you know, and we can just focus on
- 30:34Speaker 2: the family and just be together. And he was like, yeah,
- 30:37Speaker 2: I don't know about this one though. It's really small.
- 30:39Speaker 2: I have a bad feeling. And I was like, you know,
- 30:42Speaker 2: we didn't like flying in general. So we always kind
- 30:45Speaker 2: of had a bad feeling, you know, and I was,
- 30:47Speaker 2: and he was, um, you know, they had taken a
- 30:49Speaker 2: vote about DJ AM had a gig in LA and
- 30:52Speaker 2: some of his other, uh, friends wanted to get home
- 30:55Speaker 2: as well. So they took a vote, um, to, to
- 30:59Speaker 2: get on the jet, they kind of needed all of
- 31:01Speaker 2: them to pull in to get the jet. And I
- 31:04Speaker 2: just remember being in bed. And it was like 15
- 31:08Speaker 2: minutes later, but it felt like an hour, I don't
- 31:11Speaker 2: know how to explain it. And the phone rang. And
- 31:14Speaker 2: I'm actually before the phone ring, my daughter sat up Alabama.
- 31:18Speaker 2: And I remember her going, Mommy, where's little Chris? And
- 31:21Speaker 2: little Chris was his assistant who was on the plane.
- 31:23Speaker 2: And I remember her going, Mommy, where's little Chris? And
- 31:26Speaker 2: I was like, little Chris is with daddy, honey, like
- 31:29Speaker 2: go back to sleep. Like, it's okay. Go back to sleep.
- 31:33Speaker 2: And then about 15 minutes later, the phone rang and
- 31:35Speaker 2: it was a deputy. And he was like, is Shana
- 31:38Speaker 2: Mochler there? And I said, yes. And he goes, ma'am,
- 31:40Speaker 2: there's been a terrible accident. There's been a plane crash.
- 31:42Speaker 2: And I thought they were joking. And I was like,
- 31:45Speaker 2: ha ha ha ha guys. Like, I don't, I thought
- 31:47Speaker 2: it was Travis and the guy's joking. And I was like,
- 31:49Speaker 2: this isn't funny. I don't think that's funny. Like, you know,
- 31:53Speaker 2: and the guy was like, no ma'am, I'm, I'm being serious.
- 31:55Speaker 2: There's been a terrible, a terrible accident. And I just
- 31:58Speaker 2: was like, this isn't a joke. Like you don't joke
- 32:01Speaker 2: about stuff like that. And the man was like, ma'am,
- 32:03Speaker 2: this is deputy so-and-so from the North Carolina police department there.
- 32:07Speaker 2: And right when he said that, I heard Travis screaming
- 32:11Speaker 2: in the background, like, like blood curdling, screaming cries. And, um,
- 32:17Speaker 2: like I'm on fire, I'm on fire. And, um, And
- 32:21Speaker 2: he goes, we need to airlift him. And, you know,
- 32:23Speaker 2: we need you to, you know, we're going to airlift.
- 32:25Speaker 2: We're taking him to, I believe it was Georgia. They
- 32:27Speaker 2: were taking him from North Carolina to Georgia. He didn't
- 32:29Speaker 2: end up getting airlifted. He didn't want to get in
- 32:31Speaker 2: another aircraft. They ended up driving him to Georgia. And
- 32:36Speaker 2: I just hung up the phone and I called his father.
- 32:40Speaker 2: And I don't even think I was hysterically crying. And
- 32:45Speaker 2: I remember him telling me I could hear on the
- 32:46Speaker 2: phone him saying, little Chris didn't make it. Little Chris
- 32:49Speaker 2: didn't make it. And that night they brought little Chris's
- 32:53Speaker 2: wife over to the house and I had to tell
- 32:56Speaker 2: her that little Chris didn't make it. And then his
- 33:00Speaker 2: manager and I get on a plane like at five
- 33:03Speaker 2: in the morning, like the first plane out to Georgia
- 33:06Speaker 2: to go see him. It was a pretty horrific, horrific experience.
- 33:12Speaker 1: And I think four people ended up dying in that
- 33:15Speaker 1: plane crash.
- 33:16Speaker 2: Yes. Little Chris, his assistant Che, his security Che and
- 33:21Speaker 2: the two pilots, a man and a woman. It was
- 33:23Speaker 2: actually the older, older pilots last.
- 33:25Speaker 1: Wow. And they ended up saying what it was a
- 33:28Speaker 1: tire that, that popped. Did they ever.
- 33:30Speaker 2: A tire popped.
- 33:31Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 33:31Speaker 2: And I think between the pilots, one was trying to
- 33:35Speaker 2: take off and one was trying to land. So there
- 33:37Speaker 2: was this sort of up down kind of like thing.
- 33:40Speaker 5: And then they, They think you're done for the day,
- 33:44Speaker 5: but they don't know about the drawer. The drawer. Just
- 33:49Speaker 5: the one square before bed. Or two, you know. Nobody's watching.
- 33:57Speaker 5: You deserve a treat.
- 34:01Speaker 6: With eight flavours to choose from, you can choose the
- 34:04Speaker 6: flavour you favour with Cadbury Dairy Milk.
- 34:12Speaker 2: Went across like a highway and into an embankment. Wow. Wow.
- 34:17Speaker 1: So obviously that affected Travis deeply. I mean, he didn't
- 34:20Speaker 1: want to get on a plane for many years after.
- 34:24Speaker 1: How did you, how did you help him out of,
- 34:26Speaker 1: you know, how did you get him home from the hospital?
- 34:30Speaker 2: Gosh, well, we were in the hospital in Georgia for
- 34:32Speaker 2: about a month. And then we took a tour bus home.
- 34:36Speaker 2: We had two guys drive night and day to get
- 34:38Speaker 2: him home with a nurse on the bus. And then
- 34:41Speaker 2: we got him to the Grossman burn center here in
- 34:43Speaker 2: Los Angeles, uh, where he was there for another two months.
- 34:46Speaker 2: And he had probably over like 17 surgeries, uh, through,
- 34:51Speaker 2: through that, that time. Um, we ended up getting back
- 34:54Speaker 2: to together, but, um, uh, eventually ended up decided to
- 34:58Speaker 2: break up, uh, down the road from there. Right.
- 35:01Speaker 1: And, and DJ also was, was injured, but not as badly. Right.
- 35:07Speaker 2: Yeah, DJ AM was, you know, probably in the hospital
- 35:10Speaker 2: for like a day or two. He just kind of
- 35:12Speaker 2: walked away with like some cuts and bruises. It was pretty,
- 35:16Speaker 2: pretty crazy, you know. You know, the difference is when
- 35:21Speaker 2: the plane was on fire, Travis opened the plane door
- 35:25Speaker 2: with his hand, so burnt his hand. And then what
- 35:28Speaker 2: they thought was a wing was actually the jet engine.
- 35:31Speaker 2: So AM sort of had his shoes on and jumped
- 35:34Speaker 2: on and jumped down. where Travis jumped on and slid
- 35:39Speaker 2: down and so burnt and got the jet fuel on him. Yeah. Wow.
- 35:44Speaker 1: So did that make the relationship closer or did they
- 35:46Speaker 1: not want to talk about it at all? And they
- 35:48Speaker 1: went their separate ways. Do you know what happened there?
- 35:52Speaker 2: Um, I don't really know, you know, I mean, that's
- 35:54Speaker 2: something that I guess, you know, they would really have to, to,
- 35:57Speaker 2: to speak on. I mean, I guess my personal opinion
- 36:00Speaker 2: or take as an outsider is I think AM, I
- 36:04Speaker 2: think carried a lot of guilt and, because he was
- 36:06Speaker 2: the one that wanted to get home for this gig.
- 36:11Speaker 2: And I think, obviously not having such severe injuries and
- 36:16Speaker 2: seeing Travis kind of go through the severity of his
- 36:19Speaker 2: injuries in the hospital was probably very, I think I would,
- 36:22Speaker 2: I don't see how any human being couldn't carry some
- 36:26Speaker 2: serious amounts of remorse or guilt. I think that was very,
- 36:32Speaker 2: very difficult for him to see. But I don't think
- 36:36Speaker 2: Travis blamed him. You know, I think Travis still love
- 36:40Speaker 2: clearly 1000% loved him and never wanted him to feel
- 36:44Speaker 2: that way. But I just think as a human being,
- 36:46Speaker 2: we would naturally feel that way. But, you know, he
- 36:49Speaker 2: definitely wanted to still be there and support him for,
- 36:52Speaker 2: you know, and have that friendship for sure. I mean,
- 36:55Speaker 2: it's a thing.
- 36:56Speaker 3: They were the only two survivors, you know, so I mean,
- 36:59Speaker 3: that has to bring you close.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Right.
- 37:01Speaker 1: And then were you around when DJ AM lost his life?
- 37:05Speaker 1: Were you, did you, and what was that like for
- 37:08Speaker 1: Travis and you?
- 37:10Speaker 2: Uh, we were actually, um, visiting my parents in Rhode Island. My,
- 37:14Speaker 2: my children were visiting their grandparents and Travis was on
- 37:17Speaker 2: tour and, um, we, he got the call and we
- 37:20Speaker 2: just sat and cried, you know, we just sat and cried.
- 37:23Speaker 2: It was just a devastating, uh, blow. And, um, you know,
- 37:27Speaker 2: that was the one person that he had, you know,
- 37:30Speaker 2: who lived through that horrific experience, who could understand the
- 37:35Speaker 2: totality of it. And I think to lose that person
- 37:39Speaker 2: and possibly think, you know, we lost them in a
- 37:42Speaker 2: way because he felt, you know, bad about it or
- 37:45Speaker 2: something was, you know, it was just devastating for everybody.
- 37:48Speaker 2: And DJ AM was such a loved person. soul and
- 37:56Speaker 2: he's so loved and he's so respected. And, you know,
- 38:00Speaker 2: there's just such a community of people who just love
- 38:03Speaker 2: him so much. So it was just a loss for,
- 38:06Speaker 2: for a large, large group of people in, in LA.
- 38:11Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. It was horrible to hear about his drug overdose. So, um,
- 38:16Speaker 1: eventually you and Travis finally cut it off and end
- 38:20Speaker 1: the relationship. And then were you okay co-parenting after that
- 38:24Speaker 1: for a while?
- 38:25Speaker 2: We did. I mean, we did. We tried our best.
- 38:29Speaker 2: You know, that's one thing we did do. But, you know,
- 38:32Speaker 2: I don't have lots of fond memories anymore. You know,
- 38:36Speaker 2: I used to try to glorify it and say, you know, but,
- 38:40Speaker 2: you know, looking back, I feel like, you know, it
- 38:43Speaker 2: was a lot of in and out of court. It
- 38:45Speaker 2: was a lot of, you know, headbutting. And I really
- 38:50Speaker 2: just don't have too many great things to say about it. Yeah. Yeah.
- 38:58Speaker 1: So, and I know you don't want to dwell too
- 39:00Speaker 1: much on your ex, but if anyone's ex was in
- 39:03Speaker 1: the news for dating somebody as famous as a Kardashian,
- 39:06Speaker 1: it's in your face all the time. People are obviously
- 39:09Speaker 1: putting it in your face. Was that hard to hear
- 39:11Speaker 1: about them or you already knew this in the background
- 39:14Speaker 1: that they were dating? Travis and Courtney.
- 39:16Speaker 2: So bullied in the media. And since this relationship ensued,
- 39:22Speaker 2: I mean, really treated unfairly and unjustly and so bullied
- 39:26Speaker 2: in the media that to me, it just has put
- 39:28Speaker 2: a really bad taste in my mouth.
- 39:30Speaker 1: But why? Because you've been vocal about not being a
- 39:33Speaker 1: fan of theirs or just because you're the ex?
- 39:36Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure. Yeah. Not being a fan. You know,
- 39:40Speaker 2: just if I made any statement whatsoever, I was just
- 39:43Speaker 2: called bitter and jealous. I don't even know Travis Barker anymore.
- 39:47Speaker 2: We haven't been together for you know, since almost 2010, 12.
- 39:52Speaker 2: And I don't even know him. I don't, I don't
- 39:54Speaker 2: know what his favorite movie is. I don't know what
- 39:56Speaker 2: his favorite food or color is. We're not together. I
- 39:59Speaker 2: have been in my own relationships. So there there's, besides
- 40:03Speaker 2: the fact that we, we just have, and we only
- 40:06Speaker 2: have our 17 year olds, we'll be 18 this year,
- 40:09Speaker 2: you know, and then our work is done here and I,
- 40:12Speaker 2: we never have to see each other or talk to
- 40:14Speaker 2: each other ever again. And I look forward to that day.
- 40:17Speaker 1: So talk to me about being on Celebrity Big Brother.
- 40:19Speaker 1: You're like a super fan, right? You always had been
- 40:22Speaker 1: watching that and knew the game really well.
- 40:25Speaker 2: Yes, I have. One second. Sorry. Can you give me
- 40:29Speaker 2: one second? I apologize. Hold on. Sorry. Okay. Um, celebrity
- 40:38Speaker 2: big brother. Oh my God. It was just like the
- 40:41Speaker 2: coolest dream come true. I have watched the show for years.
- 40:46Speaker 2: I've watched the celebrity one. I've watched the regular seasons.
- 40:49Speaker 2: And every time I watch it, I was just always like, Oh,
- 40:52Speaker 2: if I could just like get on this show, if
- 40:55Speaker 2: I could just do this show, um, it would just
- 40:58Speaker 2: be so cool. And when I got the call, I
- 41:00Speaker 2: just couldn't believe it. I was like, really me. Okay. Um,
- 41:05Speaker 2: And it was awesome. It was a really epic experience.
- 41:09Speaker 1: Do you think anything has to do with who's on
- 41:11Speaker 1: the show and how well they know the show and
- 41:13Speaker 1: the game, or it'll just play out no matter what?
- 41:17Speaker 2: I think it could go both ways, but... You know,
- 41:20Speaker 2: I think with the regular season, they're all super fans.
- 41:24Speaker 2: They've all watched the show. They all know how the
- 41:26Speaker 2: game goes. They all are going in. I think with
- 41:28Speaker 2: the celebrity edition, there were definitely celebrities who had never
- 41:32Speaker 2: seen the show, didn't do their research and didn't know
- 41:34Speaker 2: what they were doing. And I think that's where I
- 41:38Speaker 2: aligned with people that had never seen the show and
- 41:41Speaker 2: didn't understand what I was doing or why I was
- 41:44Speaker 2: doing the things I was doing. And it really bit
- 41:48Speaker 2: me in the butt later because of it.
- 41:51Speaker 1: And did you make some lasting friendships? Do you talk
- 41:53Speaker 1: to anybody still?
- 41:55Speaker 2: I talked to Chris Kirkpatrick. I just think he is
- 41:58Speaker 2: the coolest guy. He is so sweet. He's such a
- 42:01Speaker 2: great dad. He's amazing husband. And he's just a great
- 42:05Speaker 2: friend overall. He'll check you up in on me every
- 42:08Speaker 2: now and then. And I think he's awesome. I also
- 42:10Speaker 2: love Teddy Mellencamp. I think what she's doing for women
- 42:14Speaker 2: and is awesome. Her all in empowerment, you know, fitness, health,
- 42:20Speaker 2: healthy fitness lifestyle is awesome. But the, the rest of the, the,
- 42:26Speaker 2: the people I kind of just let fall to the wayside.
- 42:29Speaker 1: So you, I have to ask, you don't speak to
- 42:32Speaker 1: Lamar Odom anymore?
- 42:34Speaker 6: No, no.
- 42:35Speaker 2: And Lamar was just a nice guy. He was just
- 42:37Speaker 2: like a nice friend. Super cool. He's just a sweet guy.
- 42:40Speaker 1: But it ended up causing you some problems, right? So
- 42:43Speaker 1: when you came out, weren't the, when you left the house,
- 42:45Speaker 1: weren't there some issues in your personal life that.
- 42:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the things sometimes, the way they're edited
- 42:54Speaker 2: on TV may make it seem like there was nothing
- 42:58Speaker 2: ever ever romantic or flirtatious with us, but I could
- 43:02Speaker 2: see how it could be perceived that way. But, you know,
- 43:06Speaker 2: there was, there was nothing there. And if you watch
- 43:07Speaker 2: the 24 seven live feeds, you could tell that there
- 43:10Speaker 2: was just nothing. But more than anything, you know, I,
- 43:14Speaker 2: a lot of the cast mates called and they, you know, apologized.
- 43:18Speaker 2: And that meant a lot to me from some of them,
- 43:20Speaker 2: because there were some things that were said on the
- 43:23Speaker 2: live feeds that I just was like, my mind was
- 43:25Speaker 2: just blown. You know, I was like, wow. Right. just mean. Right.
- 43:31Speaker 1: So now talk to me about OnlyFans. You are on OnlyFans, correct?
- 43:34Speaker 2: I am. Yeah.
- 43:35Speaker 1: And what's that like? I mean, are you doing like,
- 43:38Speaker 1: you know, cooking in your kitchen naked? Are you like, what, what,
- 43:41Speaker 1: tell me all about it.
- 43:44Speaker 2: My OnlyFans is pretty tame. I don't do anything pornographic.
- 43:48Speaker 2: I don't do any sexual, you know, stimulation or playing
- 43:52Speaker 2: with toys or anything like that. It's basically a very
- 43:55Speaker 2: playboy ask. Um, I do try to interact with my fans. Um, and, um,
- 44:00Speaker 2: I'm gonna, I'm actually a big gamer, so I'm going
- 44:03Speaker 2: to be gaming. Um, and I play call of duty,
- 44:06Speaker 2: so I'll be gaming with a lot of my fans
- 44:07Speaker 2: out there as well. Um, but yeah, I keep it
- 44:10Speaker 2: pretty tame, but we have a lot of fun on
- 44:11Speaker 2: there and, um, I chatted up and do lives and
- 44:15Speaker 2: things like that. Um, but I love it. I love
- 44:18Speaker 2: only fans, you know, I look at Playboy now, you know,
- 44:21Speaker 2: and since Hef has passed, you know, Playboy just sold,
- 44:23Speaker 2: I think their entire catalog to like a porn company
- 44:26Speaker 2: in Canada or something. Like all our photos, you know,
- 44:30Speaker 2: we own none of them. We own none of those photos.
- 44:33Speaker 2: We can't do anything with them. And so I just
- 44:36Speaker 2: like the fact that I have control of, you know,
- 44:39Speaker 2: my photos and what I do. I don't have a
- 44:41Speaker 2: problem posing nude. It's just not something that's taboo to me.
- 44:46Speaker 2: It's not something that is, bothers me. It never has been.
- 44:49Speaker 2: I've been modeling nudes since I was 19 in Cosmopolitan magazine.
- 44:53Speaker 2: So it's just not something that is very crazy and
- 44:57Speaker 2: wild to me.
- 44:58Speaker 1: Right. An issue for you. So those people that want
- 45:01Speaker 1: to get involved in OnlyFans, is it true that you
- 45:04Speaker 1: can actually make a living on this and you can
- 45:06Speaker 1: quit your nine to five job and and do this
- 45:10Speaker 1: and be making tens of thousands of dollars a month?
- 45:13Speaker 1: Do you feel like that is a true?
- 45:15Speaker 2: OnlyFans is a very, very lucrative platform, but it is
- 45:19Speaker 2: its own platform. I mean, there really is sort of
- 45:22Speaker 2: a science to how you... I had to have an
- 45:25Speaker 2: agency sort of kind of help me and teach me
- 45:28Speaker 2: how to really utilize the platform. But if you are dedicated,
- 45:31Speaker 2: I mean, it's not going to be... It's like everything.
- 45:34Speaker 2: you know, people think they're going to have a podcast. You,
- 45:36Speaker 2: as you know, podcasts take a lot of work and
- 45:40Speaker 2: it is not an easy thing to do. People think
- 45:42Speaker 2: they're going to have a YouTube channel and it's just
- 45:44Speaker 2: going to, Oh, I'm going to make videos and edit it.
- 45:45Speaker 2: And I'm going to be a billionaire.
- 45:46Speaker 3: They take a lot of work, you know, and OnlyFans
- 45:49Speaker 3: is exactly the same.
- 45:50Speaker 2: It's not something that you can just go on, post
- 45:52Speaker 2: some nudes and you're going to, you know, it takes
- 45:54Speaker 2: a lot of work and you know, everything takes work
- 45:58Speaker 2: if you want to be successful. So you know, there's
- 46:01Speaker 2: a definite, a specific way of how to use that platform.
- 46:04Speaker 2: Just like, just like YouTube and podcasts. Right.
- 46:07Speaker 1: And, and it takes time too. I mean, you really
- 46:10Speaker 1: have to be, uh, build the viewership or the listenership
- 46:13Speaker 1: or whatever it is, um, to get, yeah, to get
- 46:16Speaker 1: people to come. It's not like you start an only
- 46:18Speaker 1: fans page and everybody will come just because you announce
- 46:21Speaker 1: you're on it. Right. You really have to establish a
- 46:25Speaker 1: fan base or whatever. So if you come with a
- 46:27Speaker 1: fan base like you, I'm assuming you could have started
- 46:30Speaker 1: a little bit quicker than the average person doing it
- 46:32Speaker 1: from their bedroom, but it does take a while is
- 46:35Speaker 1: what I found.
- 46:36Speaker 2: Absolutely. But even with me, you know, I mean, to
- 46:38Speaker 2: keep fans interested, even on Instagram, I mean, just to keep,
- 46:42Speaker 2: you know, building your fan base, building your growth, you know,
- 46:47Speaker 2: everything does take time. It takes work and dedication. And
- 46:50Speaker 2: sometimes it takes a team of people.
- 46:51Speaker 3: So You know, it's you know, nothing, nothing in life
- 46:55Speaker 3: is easy.
- 46:55Speaker 2: I think people need to remember that.
- 46:57Speaker 1: So, so what are you doing now? What, where can
- 46:59Speaker 1: we see you? What, what should we look forward with you?
- 47:02Speaker 2: Yeah. Right now I'm actually producing my pageants. I have
- 47:07Speaker 2: my Miss Nevada USA and June 24th and 25th. I
- 47:11Speaker 2: have my Miss Utah USA, July 7th and 8th. So
- 47:13Speaker 2: if there's any women out there listening, if you are
- 47:16Speaker 2: a resident of those States, you're 14 to 28th. please apply.
- 47:20Speaker 2: I would absolutely love for you to apply. You can
- 47:22Speaker 2: go to MissNevadaUSA.com or MissUtahUSA.com. Super. And we actually are
- 47:28Speaker 2: allowing married, divorced and moms to compete now. So that's
- 47:32Speaker 2: a new rule and it's pretty exciting. You can also
- 47:35Speaker 2: catch me on my IG. You can see all the
- 47:37Speaker 2: different things I have going on. Our HBO documentary on
- 47:41Speaker 2: Oscar de la Hoya and my experience. being engaged and
- 47:45Speaker 2: having a daughter with him. I speak very candidly about
- 47:48Speaker 2: that'll be coming out in September on HBO. And yes,
- 47:51Speaker 2: you can go to my OnlyFans, which is OnlyFans Shayna
- 47:55Speaker 2: Moakler free. It's a free page. And please come subscribe.
- 48:00Speaker 2: I have a lot of fun there and I share
- 48:02Speaker 2: a lot of things that I can't share on Instagram.
- 48:04Speaker 2: So come join me. It's fun. Perfect.
- 48:08Speaker 1: And my last question would be, do you have any
- 48:12Speaker 1: reality TV shows that you still want to be on
- 48:15Speaker 1: or you look forward to getting that call that you're
- 48:17Speaker 1: a fan of?
- 48:18Speaker 2: Gosh, I get, you know, I love reality TV. I
- 48:24Speaker 2: really do. I would love to go back to a
- 48:27Speaker 2: Big Brother All-Stars maybe. I think that would be really,
- 48:30Speaker 2: really fun. My fan base wants to see me on
- 48:34Speaker 2: the Housewives franchise in some capacity so bad. I would
- 48:38Speaker 2: be open to doing that. I think I would be
- 48:42Speaker 2: a no brainer for that show. But that would be really,
- 48:46Speaker 2: I think, a fun show to do. But I'm open
- 48:49Speaker 2: to reality. My heart is really in scripted projects. I
- 48:51Speaker 2: would love to be like on a Grey's Anatomy or
- 48:53Speaker 2: an American Horror Story where you get to play different
- 48:56Speaker 2: characters each season. That's kind of like my dream, my
- 48:59Speaker 2: dream jobs.
- 49:01Speaker 3: Great.
- 49:01Speaker 1: And are you dating anybody exciting in your life right now?
- 49:05Speaker 2: I am currently dating someone, but I'm keeping it on
- 49:09Speaker 2: the low low because my- We.
- 49:11Speaker 1: All know what happens.
- 49:12Speaker 2: We all know what happens when we talk about it.
- 49:16Speaker 1: Got it.
- 49:16Speaker 2: All right.
- 49:17Speaker 1: Well, we wish you the best of luck with that.
- 49:18Speaker 1: Thank you so much for joining. me. And I hope
- 49:21Speaker 1: to see you soon.
