- 0:22SPEAKER_00: The Renaissance artist Lee Arno da Vinci said the greatest geniuses sometimes accomplish more when they work less.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: But what exactly did he mean by that?
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Well, Da Vinci meant that the most successful people are not necessarily the smartest or the most creative.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: What really makes the difference is that they find ways to be more effective.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: There have been a lot of books, workshops, podcasts, and even entire academic programs created to help writers be more effective.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: But here is one simple way to achieve more while you're working less, and that is repurposing your writing.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: Here's how it works.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Take the primary way that you produce content and then use that same material in several different places.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: For example, if you write blog posts, you can repurpose those into book chapters, email newsletters, social media posts, podcast episodes, videos, speeches, courses, and so forth.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Any type of content can be translated into a lot of other forms.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: Now it does take some effort because the medium does impact the message, as Marshall McLuhan once said.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: However, it's usually a lot less work to repurpose content than it is to create more content totally from scratch.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: Don't worry about people seeing your material in more than one place.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: People who like your content will appreciate hearing it more than once.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: I mean, honestly, if it's good enough to read, to listen to or to watch once, it's good enough to read, watch, or listen to a second or a third time as well.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: And also remember that not everybody will see your content in every format.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: For example, people who watch your videos are generally not the same group that will listen to your podcast or read your blog post or read your books and so forth.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: I mean there is some overlap, but it's not the exact same group.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: So don't worry too much about people seeing your stuff in more than one place.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: Honestly, repurposing your material is one of the best ways to work less and achieve more, just like Leonardo da Vinci said.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: And if that was good enough for him, then it's good enough for you and I as well.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: Here's today's challenge.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Try repurposing some of your material this week and watch how it connects with different groups.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: You will work less, but you'll end up getting a lot more mileage out of your material.
