- 0:00Speaker 1: Big sales events of the year. It's a big time
- 0:02Speaker 1: for Toyota dealers around the country, but for us, it's
- 0:06Speaker 1: our anniversary month and that means that we're giving away
- 0:10Speaker 1: some extra money to the local nonprofits. Everyone who purchases
- 0:14Speaker 1: a vehicle gets to select a nonprofit to support, and
- 0:17Speaker 1: we make a donation in their name of fifty dollars.
- 0:21Speaker 1: And when the organization organization that gets chosen the most
- 0:26Speaker 1: receives a minimum of twenty five hundred dollars. If they
- 0:29Speaker 1: get more than twenty five votes, so to speak, they
- 0:32Speaker 1: will give you every vote for fifty times fifty dollars
- 0:36Speaker 1: and then if you qualify, I get that match by Toyota.
- 0:40Speaker 1: And last year, Journey Home was selected the most and
- 0:45Speaker 1: we were really proud of that. That was a great
- 0:49Speaker 1: honor for us to be able to support the incredible
- 0:52Speaker 1: work you guys do. And it's so neat to have
- 0:55Speaker 1: our customers look at what's frankly a really long list
- 1:01Speaker 1: of nonprofits that we support historically and want to draw
- 1:08Speaker 1: to people's attention. But it's great to have a winner.
- 1:12Speaker 1: And you know, the Journey Home is one of those
- 1:14Speaker 1: things that people don't know what it does. It impacts
- 1:19Speaker 1: so many people in our communities end of life and anyway,
- 1:25Speaker 1: thank you for what you do, Brennan, and we're glad
- 1:28Speaker 1: to have you here and tell us more about what's
- 1:31Speaker 1: going on at Journey Home.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Thank you so much for having me. Yes, we were
- 1:35Speaker 2: the recipients last year and it was matched by Toyota,
- 1:39Speaker 2: so thank you. That is a huge impact. I pulled
- 1:44Speaker 2: some stats before I came today. It's you know, if
- 1:48Speaker 2: you don't know what the Journey Home is. We care
- 1:50Speaker 2: for people in their last thirty days of life. They
- 1:53Speaker 2: have to have a hospice that we contract with, they
- 1:57Speaker 2: have to have a do not resuscitate order and be
- 1:59Speaker 2: within their life thirty days of life and we do
- 2:03Speaker 2: this and if there's a need and we have a bed,
- 2:07Speaker 2: we're gonna we're going to accept them. To date, as
- 2:11Speaker 2: of counting the people in the house right now, we
- 2:14Speaker 2: have cared for two hundred and forty two people just
- 2:17Speaker 2: this year, so that five thousand dollars went a long
- 2:21Speaker 2: way in caring for those two hundred and forty two people.
- 2:24Speaker 2: The people that are here right now, the people that
- 2:26Speaker 2: we have through Thanksgiving, the people we had this summer.
- 2:30Speaker 2: We also just last month took care of the youngest
- 2:34Speaker 2: person we've ever cared for at the age of twenty two. Wow,
- 2:39Speaker 2: that is something that was a challenge, was a huge
- 2:43Speaker 2: challenge for every one of us. My heart broke for
- 2:46Speaker 2: my caregivers that have bonded with this individual and the families,
- 2:50Speaker 2: and we keep seeing that more and more as the
- 2:53Speaker 2: days go on. You know, used to to have somebody
- 2:56Speaker 2: in their fifties was a huge heartbreak, and now it's sad,
- 3:02Speaker 2: but you don't blink at it any longer because it's
- 3:06Speaker 2: you know, the sixties or the new fifties, and the
- 3:09Speaker 2: diagnosises are just hitting hard and fast and it just
- 3:15Speaker 2: truly is heartbreaking. But doing all this, we don't charge
- 3:19Speaker 2: for what we do, so we do take stats. We
- 3:23Speaker 2: don't depend anything off of anyone's income. However, we do
- 3:29Speaker 2: apply for France and things like that, and that's something
- 3:31Speaker 2: that they look at. So we do a bracket of
- 3:35Speaker 2: twelve thousand or less annual income, and then twelve to
- 3:38Speaker 2: twenty five thousand is an annual income, and below twenty
- 3:42Speaker 2: five thousand below over over fifty percent of our guest
- 3:48Speaker 2: or who we're caring for at that annual income, and
- 3:53Speaker 2: that's right at poverty level, and that could be even
- 3:56Speaker 2: two people living off that income. Know, when you get
- 4:00Speaker 2: to this final stage in life, that's the last thing
- 4:03Speaker 2: you need to worry about is how am I going
- 4:05Speaker 2: to afford to pay caregivers in the home, and you
- 4:08Speaker 2: know what about a nursing home. All those things that
- 4:10Speaker 2: you're truly just trying to navigate.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Where what do I do now?
- 4:15Speaker 2: And so because of the generosity of Bartlesville in the
- 4:20Speaker 2: community area, we are absolutely blessed to be able to
- 4:23Speaker 2: have our doors open. We can accept six people at
- 4:27Speaker 2: a time. We are actually expanding. If you have not heard,
- 4:32Speaker 2: we have. We have a family that's graciously letting us
- 4:35Speaker 2: hues their guesthouse in Spurry, Oklahoma. It was supposed to
- 4:39Speaker 2: open last month and we had a little hiccup. They're
- 4:43Speaker 2: requiring us to put in a sprinkler system in case
- 4:46Speaker 2: of fire.
- 4:47Speaker 3: So we've we've.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Got a couple of hiccups that we're working through right now.
- 4:52Speaker 2: But fingers pressed and prayer said that we can get
- 4:55Speaker 2: open really soon with that and that will really kind
- 4:59Speaker 2: of give it us an extension to more of.
- 5:01Speaker 3: The Owasso.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Skaya took Collinsville kind of guessed when we looked at
- 5:08Speaker 2: this at the beginning of the year to do this expansion,
- 5:12Speaker 2: we pulled up Porta Chile and Claire House. They're both
- 5:16Speaker 2: the same type of homes like us in Tulsa, and
- 5:19Speaker 2: so in twenty twenty four they had four hundred people
- 5:23Speaker 2: pass while waiting on a bed. So this will be
- 5:27Speaker 2: a three bed facility. It won't you know, it won't
- 5:29Speaker 2: put a huge in that four hundred.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Starts the process exactly exactly.
- 5:34Speaker 2: So the in prayer for this, for this new home
- 5:38Speaker 2: to be able to open, and it's.
- 5:41Speaker 1: We're all in that and home and to the best
- 5:44Speaker 1: of that. I mean, what's so cool about what you
- 5:46Speaker 1: guys do. I mean it's heartbreaking, of course, but at
- 5:49Speaker 1: the same time, you get up and do it again
- 5:52Speaker 1: every day and you're so you're focused on really supporting
- 5:56Speaker 1: the family and the person and need there. And you've
- 6:00Speaker 1: taken the sleep in Sperry without you know, really knowing
- 6:05Speaker 1: what you're getting into. I kind of have a feeling,
- 6:08Speaker 1: and you know, you're always going on faith and that
- 6:13Speaker 1: the confidence that through the community, through what the people
- 6:16Speaker 1: you serve and the people that hear about it, and
- 6:20Speaker 1: that's worked so well in Bartlesville. I know you have
- 6:23Speaker 1: so many well supporters and you know, whether they've been
- 6:26Speaker 1: through the Home when they're someone in their family or
- 6:30Speaker 1: or just friends, neighbors. It's touched so many people. I mean,
- 6:36Speaker 1: I think I was last year when we were talking you.
- 6:41Speaker 1: I looked up the stats and there was something like
- 6:44Speaker 1: over fifty percent of the people that passed in our
- 6:46Speaker 1: community went through Journey Home and that is is amazing
- 6:53Speaker 1: and just I commend you all so much and all
- 6:57Speaker 1: the donors for Journey.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Yes, we wouldn't be here if it wasn't because that's
- 7:03Speaker 2: I mean, most of our money. We do get grants,
- 7:06Speaker 2: but the percentage of our donations are individuals like you
- 7:09Speaker 2: and I that are see it's a mission, it's a
- 7:13Speaker 2: passion and we are doing the right thing by caring
- 7:18Speaker 2: for people in their last thirty days. So thank you,
- 7:22Speaker 2: Thank you Bartlesville the area everything that you do for us,
- 7:26Speaker 2: because we are we are beyond blessed and we couldn't
- 7:29Speaker 2: be here without you.
- 7:30Speaker 3: So thank you so much.
- 7:33Speaker 1: And you know I want to focus on selling too much,
- 7:36Speaker 1: but if you want to support them and you're in
- 7:38Speaker 1: the market for a car, this is an opportunity to
- 7:41Speaker 1: do both at the same time.
- 7:42Speaker 3: By Toyota's this car you can buy so that there's that.
- 7:48Speaker 1: You or one of our pre owned too and make
- 7:52Speaker 1: a selection and hopefully, you know, we will have a winner.
- 7:55Speaker 1: And it's it is a great time of year. You know.
- 8:00Speaker 1: One of the things that is so important that duneus
- 8:04Speaker 1: is this connection community to the community, and you know,
- 8:09Speaker 1: it goes back generations to my grandmother and grandfather when
- 8:13Speaker 1: they came to Barlsville in nineteen forty one and they
- 8:17Speaker 1: had it was a dream of theirs to move to
- 8:20Speaker 1: a community like this and my grandfather had had the
- 8:22Speaker 1: dealership in the Tonkawa and they were expanding and Barlsville
- 8:28Speaker 1: was a big community, you know, and then you know,
- 8:30Speaker 1: it was a strange time when World War Two starting
- 8:33Speaker 1: later that year after they moved, and you know, lots
- 8:37Speaker 1: of things happened, but they started with that, you know,
- 8:41Speaker 1: sponsoring the baseball team, doing My grandmother was involved in
- 8:46Speaker 1: creating concern and to be you know in those you know,
- 8:49Speaker 1: so many organizations. The Mutual Girls Club was one of
- 8:53Speaker 1: her great organizations. She loved to support and was involved
- 8:58Speaker 1: in for decades. And the list just goes on and on,
- 9:02Speaker 1: and that's right. The Barlsville is This is one of
- 9:05Speaker 1: the themes of the show, and I love to talk
- 9:08Speaker 1: about it, just how Bartlesville has these examples over and
- 9:12Speaker 1: over again.
- 9:13Speaker 3: There's over five hundred nonprofits in Bartlesville.
- 9:17Speaker 1: That's amazing.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Yes that does count churches and things like that, but
- 9:21Speaker 2: that is I mean, we have we are so blessed
- 9:24Speaker 2: to be here. I mean, we've got past independence, we
- 9:27Speaker 2: have elder care. I mean, I'm waiting for a call
- 9:31Speaker 2: right now from Lighthouse because they're going to deliver some
- 9:33Speaker 2: wood to.
- 9:33Speaker 3: My house for my fireplace. I'm so excited.
- 9:36Speaker 1: We were excited to go to one of their going
- 9:39Speaker 1: see days this last summer. We sponsored one of those
- 9:42Speaker 1: and went down to Lighthouse and I got to have
- 9:45Speaker 1: lunch with it some of the folks that lived there,
- 9:48Speaker 1: and you know, it was just a revelation to me.
- 9:52Speaker 3: It really is.
- 9:53Speaker 2: I always say it's I didn't know is what they
- 9:56Speaker 2: call that, and that is absolutely if you haven't been
- 9:59Speaker 2: to it, lunch they do, I think once every two months,
- 10:02Speaker 2: but they give you a tour of the facility. But
- 10:04Speaker 2: there's so many things. We save all of our bottled water,
- 10:07Speaker 2: all of our bottles and cans, and that goes to
- 10:10Speaker 2: their mission fund. So anyway that our nonprofits can support
- 10:15Speaker 2: one another. The Bartleswell Community Foundation started a coffee connect
- 10:19Speaker 2: I think we've gone for two years now, and it's
- 10:22Speaker 2: all the nonprofits get together once a quarter and it's
- 10:25Speaker 2: things like that where you can talk about, hey, Lighthouse
- 10:28Speaker 2: will deliver a ricka wood for you for sixty bucks.
- 10:30Speaker 2: That's you know, I mean things like that saving your
- 10:33Speaker 2: pop can.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Right, And that is a thing about all of these
- 10:36Speaker 1: organizations they do seem to kind of line up and
- 10:39Speaker 1: not over overlapping each other too much and right, so
- 10:43Speaker 1: that there is this community network that.
- 10:45Speaker 2: You can with your pubbleeple coming together to create Bartlesville.
- 10:49Speaker 3: And what we mean to this community.
- 10:51Speaker 2: I mean, we truly are beyond blessed to have this
- 10:55Speaker 2: community and support and just friendships. And it's not, you know,
- 11:01Speaker 2: none of us are here for a competition of money.
- 11:04Speaker 2: It's absolutely how can I help your nonprofit succeed? You know,
- 11:09Speaker 2: if I have an abundance of something, I'm going to go,
- 11:12Speaker 2: you know, share that with somebody, and and that's that's
- 11:15Speaker 2: what's the best thing about Well.
- 11:17Speaker 1: And you know, and to be honest, a lot of
- 11:20Speaker 1: a lot of people that that don't have that much share,
- 11:23Speaker 1: you know, I mean, to be honest, that's a really
- 11:25Speaker 1: humbling to me when the people that have the least
- 11:28Speaker 1: are among the most generous of what they have exactly.
- 11:31Speaker 1: And you know that's Bartlesville has a lot of folks
- 11:35Speaker 1: like that too, that that are just generous at heart
- 11:38Speaker 1: and believe that it's the right thing to do. And
- 11:41Speaker 1: you know, there's an amazing community and a great example
- 11:45Speaker 1: at the Journey Home, and you know, there are so
- 11:48Speaker 1: many I mean, tomorrow we'll have go to the Youth
- 11:50Speaker 1: of the Year organization at the Boys and Girls Club,
- 11:52Speaker 1: which is one of my favorite favorite times, and we
- 11:57Speaker 1: get to go there and see what they do and
- 12:00Speaker 1: not just you know, see the wonderful facility they have,
- 12:03Speaker 1: but see the culmination of of some of some of
- 12:08Speaker 1: their members careers there as they've grad you know, moved
- 12:12Speaker 1: on through the years, and any of them competing in
- 12:15Speaker 1: the Youth of the Year speech contests or you know,
- 12:18Speaker 1: I've been going there for for you know, ten or
- 12:21Speaker 1: twelve years, and and uh, it's a it's just a
- 12:26Speaker 1: really heartwarming thing to see them talk about their experience
- 12:30Speaker 1: and and then you know a lot of them go on.
- 12:33Speaker 1: We've had some people go on to great uh careers
- 12:38Speaker 1: and all kinds of UH pathways for life and you know,
- 12:42Speaker 1: come back to Bartlesville and enrich our community even more.
- 12:45Speaker 1: And you know, it's it's one of those circles of
- 12:48Speaker 1: life that is so important that Bartlesville is you should
- 12:52Speaker 1: be really proud of of your community. Everyone out there
- 12:56Speaker 1: listening and we you know, we just hope to be
- 12:59Speaker 1: able to raise awareness of that and and kind of
- 13:03Speaker 1: be a be a supporter of that. That's that's one
- 13:05Speaker 1: of our missions at Dungeons and appreciate that. And what
- 13:11Speaker 1: else is going on? You guys usually have a Christmas party,
- 13:14Speaker 1: I think, and stuff like that.
- 13:16Speaker 2: We're pushing our employee Christmas party, employee volunteer Christmas party
- 13:20Speaker 2: to New Year's Eve because Okay, it's just kind of
- 13:22Speaker 2: crazy right now.
- 13:23Speaker 1: We've got a lot going to busy timing.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Is it is, so we we had it planned for
- 13:28Speaker 2: next week, but I'm like, it's just not going to work.
- 13:31Speaker 1: So yeah, Chang and Zug, I mean, you do have
- 13:35Speaker 1: a lot going.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Yes, So we signed up we're not going to be
- 13:39Speaker 2: in the Christmas parade this year boo, But we decided
- 13:43Speaker 2: to the Chamber is doing an event called Slay the
- 13:46Speaker 2: Ville and so if you sign up to work the
- 13:49Speaker 2: weekend then you can the Chamber will write your nonprofit
- 13:55Speaker 2: a five hundred dollars check.
- 13:56Speaker 3: So this is our weekend.
- 13:57Speaker 2: So we decided what better way to make money for
- 14:00Speaker 2: the Journey Home instead of you know, doing a float.
- 14:03Speaker 1: A little promotional exactly.
- 14:06Speaker 3: So we have this weekend. Yes, so come out to
- 14:09Speaker 3: the Chamber. We'll be there.
- 14:10Speaker 2: We're doing Friday, all day Saturday, and all day Sunday
- 14:14Speaker 2: this weekend and we'll be raising five hundred dollars from
- 14:16Speaker 2: the Chamber for the Journey Home. And so that'll be
- 14:19Speaker 2: this weekend, and we'll be there during.
- 14:22Speaker 3: The Christmas preade. So we're excited for the pre and
- 14:25Speaker 3: the post Christmas preade.
- 14:26Speaker 1: And the Chamber has great stuff going on down there.
- 14:30Speaker 3: That's another thing.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Yes, the Chamber of Chamber is fantastic. The parade we're
- 14:35Speaker 1: going to have our some of our team are working
- 14:38Speaker 1: on the float right now, I think for Dungeons.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Yeah, so that's Saturday, this Saturday, and then Dewey's Prede
- 14:44Speaker 2: is the next Saturday. And there's yeah, it's just there's
- 14:48Speaker 2: so much.
- 14:48Speaker 1: It's just hearing enough for our company Christmas party too,
- 14:51Speaker 1: which is always a fun time for us. Having it
- 14:55Speaker 1: at the dealership this year, which is fun for the team.
- 14:58Speaker 1: I think they it's always little bit better when we
- 15:01Speaker 1: do have it there. It's a little bit more work, yes,
- 15:04Speaker 1: but we seem to get more participation and the same
- 15:09Speaker 1: with us. Just more comfortable I think for people to
- 15:12Speaker 1: go to where they're.
- 15:13Speaker 3: Using with us.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Yeah, we have our Christmas party in the chapel and
- 15:16Speaker 2: it just kind of brings you together, that gives you
- 15:19Speaker 2: just kind of a warm and fuzzy, fuzzy feelings.
- 15:21Speaker 3: So that's where we do our So.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Yeah, it's easier when it's it's harder on us, but
- 15:26Speaker 2: it's easier to do it there because it's just everybody
- 15:29Speaker 2: feels good being there.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Well, that's awesome, and so other stuff going on. It
- 15:36Speaker 1: is toyotath On. As I said, we've just rounded the
- 15:39Speaker 1: first bend in toyotath On with the beginning of December.
- 15:42Speaker 1: There's a all the incentives that were started back in
- 15:46Speaker 1: mid November when toyodath On started continued or got better.
- 15:50Speaker 1: We've got more interest rates, specials, we've got great inventory
- 15:54Speaker 1: right now. Really our best inventory of the year. We're
- 15:59Speaker 1: still having to trade and wheel and deal for you know,
- 16:02Speaker 1: to get that perfect car for people. But now that
- 16:04Speaker 1: we have a few more in stock, that's more possible.
- 16:08Speaker 1: So give us a shout. Let us know what you're
- 16:11Speaker 1: interested in. We certainly are there to serve the community
- 16:14Speaker 1: and help you get a car with a and have
- 16:17Speaker 1: a great experience doing it. We had a customer come
- 16:20Speaker 1: in last week and uh she uh when she said
- 16:26Speaker 1: that she she came back to buy her Grand Highlander
- 16:30Speaker 1: because she didn't get the salesman ick. Oh wow. And
- 16:37Speaker 1: then her husband came back and got a Tacoma. So
- 16:40Speaker 1: that's what we like, is you know, and and we
- 16:43Speaker 1: promise no salesman ick. And you know, I think we
- 16:47Speaker 1: are our non commissioned sales team. Both the sales person
- 16:53Speaker 1: you talk to and the sales managers none of them
- 16:55Speaker 1: are paid commission so they're not motivated by you know,
- 16:59Speaker 1: the gross we make selling a car. That of course
- 17:02Speaker 1: we have to make a profit, and you know, and
- 17:04Speaker 1: the and the you know, we need our customers. We
- 17:09Speaker 1: can't do it without people being loyal to us. And
- 17:14Speaker 1: but at the same time, we just feel like we
- 17:16Speaker 1: want our team to be lined up with your needs
- 17:18Speaker 1: to be focused on what you you're serving, you being
- 17:22Speaker 1: part of, you know, helping you buy a car, rather
- 17:25Speaker 1: than trying to manipulate the situation to maximize our pay.
- 17:30Speaker 1: And you know, that's something that I believed in, you know.
- 17:34Speaker 1: I when I kind of made that decision to get
- 17:38Speaker 1: in the car business, I was kind of in the
- 17:41Speaker 1: midlife I'd been I was an English major in college.
- 17:45Speaker 1: I was a newspaper reporter and a fundraiser for a
- 17:49Speaker 1: few years, and then I wrote had a business where
- 17:52Speaker 1: I did corporate communication, wrote newsletters for nonprofits and businesses
- 17:58Speaker 1: and things, and and my father and his general manager
- 18:03Speaker 1: started recruiting me into the business. And I wasn't really sure,
- 18:07Speaker 1: you know, because of the kind of some of the
- 18:08Speaker 1: stereotype and and the legacy thing was kind of a
- 18:13Speaker 1: you know, it's it has a dual edged sword there.
- 18:16Speaker 1: You know, it has its great part of continuing this
- 18:20Speaker 1: great legacy we have and the community stuff we do,
- 18:24Speaker 1: but you know, it's it's also you know, it was
- 18:26Speaker 1: kind of a predestiny thing, and I didn't I didn't
- 18:30Speaker 1: want to do that, but but I did decide that
- 18:32Speaker 1: I would do it under you know, my own terms.
- 18:34Speaker 1: And we've been you know, that's I've been very steadfast
- 18:39Speaker 1: that through the years. And and my son is with us,
- 18:43Speaker 1: and and you know, it is a family business, and
- 18:46Speaker 1: we really you know, we we look at all our
- 18:50Speaker 1: employees and customers as an extension of our family and
- 18:53Speaker 1: the community as a whole. And we don't have a
- 18:57Speaker 1: large business. We're a very small local company, you know,
- 19:01Speaker 1: smaller even without the Ford Dealership than we used to be,
- 19:05Speaker 1: but in a way makes us more nimble, I think,
- 19:08Speaker 1: and able to do these things that make us really unique.
- 19:12Speaker 1: And hopefully the community recognizes that our business has been
- 19:17Speaker 1: through like the nonprofit world, you know, in the last
- 19:20Speaker 1: few years, things just continue to change. I'm sure it's
- 19:23Speaker 1: harder to now than it was ten or fifteen, twenty
- 19:27Speaker 1: years ago, just because in the way life is.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Harder, right, Yeah, Your gery bills are.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Inflation, yeah, everyone, you know, we see that in our customers,
- 19:40Speaker 1: you know, as you know, trying to match up the
- 19:42Speaker 1: car with their needs and with higher interest rates and
- 19:45Speaker 1: the rising cost of vehicles. I can't control that stuff,
- 19:48Speaker 1: you know. All I can do is help you with
- 19:51Speaker 1: guide you through that process to get the best deal possible.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Don't bring about your service department, twitness service department is phenomenal.
- 20:00Speaker 3: I mean they truly I yeah.
- 20:02Speaker 1: That's that's the secret sauce. I see in a cliche
- 20:07Speaker 1: for that because that, you know, the sale is kind
- 20:10Speaker 1: of a big thing and it is a big purchase
- 20:12Speaker 1: for people. But at the same time, what keeps people
- 20:15Speaker 1: coming back is they're the service and our our service
- 20:18Speaker 1: team they're great. You know, they were really proud to
- 20:21Speaker 1: have a lot of people that have been there a
- 20:23Speaker 1: long time that kind of drive that culture. You know,
- 20:27Speaker 1: our you know, our shop Forman Jake but has been
- 20:31Speaker 1: there pretty much his whole adult life. I mean he's
- 20:33Speaker 1: not really an old man, but he started as a
- 20:37Speaker 1: as an apprentice and went through a Toyota training and
- 20:41Speaker 1: he's master certified and and he brings all the other
- 20:45Speaker 1: young guys with him and brings them, you know, trying
- 20:47Speaker 1: to help them find their place, and that that great
- 20:50Speaker 1: career to be because it's not just a mechanic anymore.
- 20:55Speaker 1: They have to be really technical, computer savvy. And then
- 21:00Speaker 1: our our service advisors, you know, they they deal with
- 21:05Speaker 1: a very complex situation a lot of times, you know,
- 21:09Speaker 1: it's a there's a lot of volume they deal with
- 21:11Speaker 1: lots of people every day and often the problems involved
- 21:16Speaker 1: and sometimes it's it's hard to explain to people what
- 21:21Speaker 1: is going to happen. And you know, so being able
- 21:23Speaker 1: to you know, create those proper expectations, be honest and
- 21:29Speaker 1: and uh you know true, you know, true to the
- 21:32Speaker 1: customer's needs like we are in sales and service too,
- 21:35Speaker 1: is really really important to us. And and that happens
- 21:38Speaker 1: to you, right, not just in service, but our parts department,
- 21:41Speaker 1: our office, the body shop, our detailed department. They all
- 21:45Speaker 1: i know share those values. That's uh, that's one of
- 21:49Speaker 1: the neat things about being small is we kind of
- 21:51Speaker 1: can be uh you can be sure of that. And
- 21:54Speaker 1: they're a little bit more intentional about being you know,
- 21:58Speaker 1: this small, smaller organization in a world where you know,
- 22:02Speaker 1: at so many of our of the big our competition
- 22:05Speaker 1: or big dealers that have multiple car dealerships and you
- 22:08Speaker 1: know a lot of consolidation on our industry and it
- 22:13Speaker 1: is there's a lot of change, but we're ready for
- 22:16Speaker 1: it and excited for next year. And but but we've
- 22:19Speaker 1: got to get through this year. And Toyota than incentives
- 22:23Speaker 1: and you know this kind of this time of year,
- 22:24Speaker 1: it's really everyone is busy and we have everyone's out,
- 22:29Speaker 1: got stuff to do. There's so many things going on
- 22:31Speaker 1: just this weekend. I can't begin to list them all.
- 22:35Speaker 1: But at the same time, you know this, we'll get
- 22:38Speaker 1: through this. And if you do our shopping for a
- 22:41Speaker 1: car and reach out to us, we'll make it. You know,
- 22:44Speaker 1: we try to be just as fast and friendly as possible.
- 22:47Speaker 1: And people, uh, you know, really people, local people helping
- 22:51Speaker 1: local people through that process and really proud of that.
- 22:54Speaker 1: And and then this month too, you get to help
- 22:58Speaker 1: organizations uh like yours, and and you know that'll be
- 23:03Speaker 1: so so rewarding at us to you know, have another winner,
- 23:08Speaker 1: and I'm sure journey Home will be a part of
- 23:11Speaker 1: that consideration.
- 23:13Speaker 3: Well, we appreciate that. We greatly appreciate that.
- 23:16Speaker 1: So so talk a little bit more about you know
- 23:20Speaker 1: those people are and maybe they don't know how to
- 23:23Speaker 1: how they people get to you, how does that work?
- 23:27Speaker 1: And because you know you said they have there's some
- 23:29Speaker 1: requirements before you can't just call and say, hey, I
- 23:32Speaker 1: need a bed, yeah, and there are certain things that
- 23:34Speaker 1: have to be in place before that.
- 23:36Speaker 2: And then so we got a lot of referrals from
- 23:39Speaker 2: the hospital, like like I said, when I was looking
- 23:41Speaker 2: at my stats coming through, We've got about fifty percent
- 23:43Speaker 2: come from a hospital.
- 23:45Speaker 3: It's not it's not mainly Jane Phillips.
- 23:47Speaker 2: We get a lot of Tulsa hospitals too that you
- 23:49Speaker 2: know something, they've sent them out to Tulsa for extended
- 23:53Speaker 2: care and a lot of times they'll come back home
- 23:55Speaker 2: to the Journey Home. So we get lots of referrals
- 23:58Speaker 2: from the hospital. We have local hospices that we work with,
- 24:03Speaker 2: but sometimes, you know, people take their loved ones home
- 24:06Speaker 2: and they think that they can do it, and and they.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Just it's so exhausting.
- 24:10Speaker 2: You're up every two hours when you are sleeping, your
- 24:12Speaker 2: eyes open, worried what's going on.
- 24:16Speaker 1: It's hard to predict how long that's going to take
- 24:19Speaker 1: and what that's going.
- 24:19Speaker 3: To be exactly.
- 24:20Speaker 2: This community has got some fantastic hospice nurses and so
- 24:24Speaker 2: that's another thing is that you know, speak to your
- 24:27Speaker 2: hospice nurse, let them know that when the time comes,
- 24:29Speaker 2: I would like to go to the Journey Home. So
- 24:31Speaker 2: your hospice nurse is going to be a huge coordinator
- 24:34Speaker 2: in that. The hospital is going to be a huge
- 24:36Speaker 2: coordinator in that. So those are kind of the main ways.
- 24:40Speaker 2: You know, we do get calls from family occasionally at
- 24:43Speaker 2: that point we just turn around and call the hospice
- 24:44Speaker 2: and say where are they at? Are they you know,
- 24:47Speaker 2: in our terms, or are they journey home appropriate? Are
- 24:49Speaker 2: they you know? Are they a little bit further out?
- 24:52Speaker 2: But hey, just know that when they're when they're ready,
- 24:56Speaker 2: this is what they want to do.
- 24:57Speaker 3: This is their game plan.
- 24:59Speaker 2: And we try to you know, have beds ready and
- 25:01Speaker 2: things like that. But there are times that there is
- 25:03Speaker 2: a waiting list. There are times it's kind of quiet
- 25:06Speaker 2: in the house. So it's just it's the way that
- 25:09Speaker 2: the hospice world works. Like I said, we went into
- 25:12Speaker 2: Thanksgiving Day with five people in the house and that's
- 25:15Speaker 2: you know, that's a hard time. And we we really
- 25:19Speaker 2: work on trying to have a nice meal on Thanksgiving Day,
- 25:21Speaker 2: on Christmas Day, trying to have a nice meal.
- 25:24Speaker 3: I was very new as a director, and we did
- 25:27Speaker 3: a meal. We just kind of threw it together ourselves.
- 25:29Speaker 2: And a gentleman came through and I said, you know,
- 25:32Speaker 2: we will have lunch at noon today and his mother
- 25:36Speaker 2: was being admitted that morning. He said, wow, he said,
- 25:39Speaker 2: I didn't think we were going to have Thanksgiving this year.
- 25:42Speaker 2: So that has rang true to me ever since. It
- 25:45Speaker 2: may I'll be the director for ten years. That has
- 25:48Speaker 2: been rang true to me ever since. Is you know,
- 25:51Speaker 2: their life has shattered, but we at least can put
- 25:55Speaker 2: them around a table together to enjoy a meal and
- 25:58Speaker 2: have something from them. You're in this unfamiliar territory that
- 26:02Speaker 2: they're trudging through and trying to have those last those
- 26:06Speaker 2: last conversations and love on their loved ones.
- 26:09Speaker 3: So we make it a point to.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Focus on that rather than all other stuff that has
- 26:14Speaker 1: to happen. You guys, take that vote yes a lot
- 26:18Speaker 1: of I mean, I'm sure people don't think about all
- 26:20Speaker 1: the stuff that toes into that and that your staff
- 26:23Speaker 1: has to do to make sure they're well cared for.
- 26:26Speaker 2: And my staff, I am telling you, I mean just
- 26:29Speaker 2: like your your service department and everything else.
- 26:31Speaker 3: I'm you know, I don't make a name for myselves.
- 26:33Speaker 3: They do.
- 26:35Speaker 2: They are absolutely the reason why we have succeeded and
- 26:38Speaker 2: gone to where we are because they are.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Dollience required to be strong in that. I'm sure it's
- 26:43Speaker 1: so rewarding in many ways, but it's also got to
- 26:47Speaker 1: have to take a toll.
- 26:49Speaker 3: It does, it does We have a counselor that comes
- 26:50Speaker 3: in weekly.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Just you know, she was really there whenever we had
- 26:54Speaker 2: our young guest, and she's always there for my for
- 26:59Speaker 2: every everyone of us.
- 27:00Speaker 3: Because it does it just you know, this is what
- 27:03Speaker 3: we deal with.
- 27:03Speaker 2: And if it becomes if it becomes second nature, then
- 27:06Speaker 2: you need to find another job because that's.
- 27:09Speaker 3: Not you know, what we're dealing with every day. It's
- 27:12Speaker 3: not normal.
- 27:13Speaker 1: That's right now, you can't be normalized. Right, that's a
- 27:16Speaker 1: good point. Right. Well, thank you so much for coming
- 27:19Speaker 1: in and joining me and help making for a great show.
- 27:22Speaker 1: And hopefully everyone enjoyed learning more about Journey Home. And
- 27:27Speaker 1: I just encourage you all to support there. I'm sure
- 27:30Speaker 1: they could use some donations to help get that sprinkler
- 27:32Speaker 1: system into the Sperry Home and get that open. And
- 27:36Speaker 1: if we if you are interested in a new vehicle
- 27:40Speaker 1: you we're used or good service, come on out to donge.
- 27:43Speaker 3: Just buy the Highlander.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Bring it by so I can go smell it and
- 27:46Speaker 2: feel it. That's my dream cars. I want a new one.
- 27:50Speaker 1: But if somebody wants a Christmas present.
- 27:53Speaker 3: Oh do you hear that? Do you hear that? Honey?
- 27:58Speaker 3: Thank you, thank you so much.
- 28:01Speaker 1: And folks, you've been watching and listening to car Talk
- 28:04Speaker 1: right here on K one, the one you trust.
- 28:07Speaker 4: Nype bombs in Washington the day before the attack on
- 28:10Speaker 4: the US Capitol in twenty twenty one CBS. The Scott MacFarlane.
- 28:14Speaker 5: Police have been clear those devices were discovered just as
- 28:18Speaker 5: the rioters were approaching the Capitol January sixth, and detoured
- 28:22Speaker 5: and distracted police at a sensitive and dangerous moment, allowing
- 28:26Speaker 5: the riotous mob to get further access to the Capitol
- 28:29Speaker 5: grounds and eventually the Capitol itself.
- 28:31Speaker 4: Nobody was hurt before the bombs were rendered safe near
- 28:35Speaker 4: the offices of the Democratic and Republican National Committees. A
- 28:39Speaker 4: damaging report to out today that's expected to say Defense
- 28:42Speaker 4: Secretary Pete Hegseeth could have been
