- 0:08Speaker 2: The World's a Pigeon podcast.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:19Speaker 3: Alex Atis, maybe can chime in a little bit on
- 0:21Speaker 3: the Super Bowl some of the commercials that apparently out.
- 0:23Speaker 3: It's already brought one up that I totally missed.
- 0:25Speaker 4: Now, cousin Michelle, letn't stop talking.
- 0:27Speaker 3: So is that kind of hard?
- 0:28Speaker 5: Michelle?
- 0:29Speaker 6: I have to ask the present of the drink fan club, like,
- 0:33Speaker 6: how are you doing?
- 0:34Speaker 7: He didn't play like any of his good ones. It's
- 0:36Speaker 7: twenty verse one in the industry.
- 0:38Speaker 3: I didn't know.
- 0:38Speaker 8: I didn't know people like teas exist.
- 0:40Speaker 7: It's done, and it just brings me so much joy
- 0:42Speaker 7: that there's a little kid in Kansas City who thought
- 0:45Speaker 7: he was about to get a three peak. It's gonna
- 0:47Speaker 7: haunt him for ten years and that just brings so
- 0:49Speaker 7: much joy to me.
- 0:50Speaker 8: Sucking like a true drink fan.
- 0:51Speaker 6: So disagree with him on Adam and Erry, Like, what
- 0:53Speaker 6: more does a kicker could possibly do? Favoritism to certain
- 0:57Speaker 6: franchises with the Hall of Fame that these vote just
- 1:00Speaker 6: typically gravitate towards until the Patriots dynasty is on par
- 1:06Speaker 6: with the other dynasties. I'm going to continue to be
- 1:08Speaker 6: pissed off about it, like Sterling Sharp getting in, Like
- 1:11Speaker 6: good player, but like, is he really you know a
- 1:14Speaker 6: guy that, oh thank god he got in. If those
- 1:16Speaker 6: were nineteen seventies Pittsburgh Steelers, they would have walked into
- 1:19Speaker 6: the Hall of Fame. And now that the Patriots, it's like, no,
- 1:22Speaker 6: we can't let those guys in.
- 1:23Speaker 8: So this goes right ouf my butt.
- 1:25Speaker 9: This is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website. For deals,
- 1:30Speaker 9: buy a Toyota dot com.
- 1:36Speaker 4: It is Tuesday here at j Let's Stadium, and I
- 1:39Speaker 4: haven't been here for a while. Uh so I'll just
- 1:42Speaker 4: start to show off. It's Evan, It's Paul, It's Deuce,
- 1:45Speaker 4: It's Matt and the booth. Is there any questions that
- 1:47Speaker 4: you needed me to ask last week? But because I
- 1:50Speaker 4: wasn't here, I couldn't answer having to do with the
- 1:52Speaker 4: Super Bowl or halftime or the commercials or anything.
- 1:58Speaker 3: What do you think of the Super Bowl? Right it?
- 2:00Speaker 4: I had a great time. I know I picked Kansas
- 2:03Speaker 4: City to win, but the right team for Patriots Nation one,
- 2:07Speaker 4: So it was awesome. I you know, for now, the
- 2:10Speaker 4: dynasty holes defend the wall, defend the wall. The Patriots
- 2:15Speaker 4: remain at the top of the heap. Tom Brady remains
- 2:19Speaker 4: at the top of the quarterback heap. All is good,
- 2:22Speaker 4: All is good.
- 2:23Speaker 3: And how about your food? Your Super Bowl food?
- 2:27Speaker 4: Yeah? No, I I watched by myself, so I'm good. Yeah, yeah, sad,
- 2:34Speaker 4: not really not really here. I was all good with it.
- 2:37Speaker 3: You get the whole pregame.
- 2:39Speaker 4: You watched the whole thing, the whole thing, yeah, Fox
- 2:44Speaker 4: on Bourbon Street.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Did you feel like the Chiefs were going to turn
- 2:48Speaker 3: it around?
- 2:49Speaker 4: I did? I? Well, I I thought that, okay, they're
- 2:52Speaker 4: gonna at some point get going, because that's the NFL, right,
- 2:55Speaker 4: it's you know, third quarter, late third quarter, both teams
- 2:58Speaker 4: start to you know, go up and down the field,
- 3:01Speaker 4: especially in Super Bowls lately. But they had nothing. They
- 3:04Speaker 4: were so dominated in the trenches that they couldn't operate
- 3:07Speaker 4: their offense, you know, And that's what it came down to.
- 3:11Speaker 8: So favorite commercial.
- 3:14Speaker 4: I liked the Dura cell one everybody. I thought it
- 3:16Speaker 4: was short and sweet and simple, a little bit of
- 3:19Speaker 4: a surprise there, you know, So I that was the
- 3:22Speaker 4: one I liked the best. The Seal one was good,
- 3:24Speaker 4: like it was so weird that it was good. But yeah,
- 3:28Speaker 4: that's the one I like. Dura cel was.
- 3:29Speaker 3: That the Tom Brady one where he yeah, he.
- 3:31Speaker 4: Runs out of gas and the guy comes in from yeah.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, Well there you have it.
- 3:39Speaker 5: Sad watched it by himself.
- 3:41Speaker 4: Yeah, and then I saw him the intro you're talking about,
- 3:46Speaker 4: uh Hall of Fame, I kind of agree with you.
- 3:50Speaker 4: My only shirt thing and who was Antonio Gates? Everyone
- 3:53Speaker 4: else shouldn't have been in and Vinitary should have been in.
- 3:57Speaker 4: But I get the kicker. As long as he gets
- 3:59Speaker 4: in next year, I'll be okay. But if they start
- 4:01Speaker 4: delaying him like he was the best kicker in his
- 4:05Speaker 4: era in his position, isn't that kind of like one
- 4:07Speaker 4: of the qualifications that you dominate your position in your era.
- 4:13Speaker 4: Like if he doesn't get in as a kicker, who does?
- 4:17Speaker 2: So?
- 4:17Speaker 4: I think that was a snub. But I can wait
- 4:20Speaker 4: a year for him. But all the other guys, eh,
- 4:23Speaker 4: Antonio Gates is my only sure thing, like when I
- 4:26Speaker 4: see his name, yeah, he's a Hall of Famer. Although
- 4:28Speaker 4: I do like the way Jared Allen came in on
- 4:30Speaker 4: the Field on the horse that he got a couple
- 4:33Speaker 4: extra votes in my book for that entrance. His entrance Gideo.
- 4:39Speaker 8: I'll never like the Hall of Fame. No, I'll always
- 4:41Speaker 8: argue with them.
- 4:43Speaker 6: It's just one of those things that bothers me, Like.
- 4:46Speaker 4: You don't have to have guys go in every year.
- 4:49Speaker 5: Like, well they didn't, this is your perfect year. They
- 4:52Speaker 5: had like half the size of what it has been.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Yep.
- 4:56Speaker 4: And this should be because nobody was that guy, that good.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Small hall Paul right, politics, a lot of it is.
- 5:04Speaker 5: Yeah, I just would have had different guys like Sterling Shop.
- 5:07Speaker 5: Why did he have to go in? I mean, I
- 5:09Speaker 5: get it, it's tragic to I mean I get it.
- 5:12Speaker 5: You know, he suffered a career ending injury. I get him.
- 5:14Speaker 5: But that doesn't mean you.
- 5:15Speaker 4: Go to the Hall of Fame, Jackson to the Hall
- 5:17Speaker 4: of Fame.
- 5:18Speaker 5: It just I don't shouldn't. I don't feel like, you know,
- 5:22Speaker 5: you should just get in based on what you would
- 5:24Speaker 5: have done. Was he tracking as a Hall of Absolutely yeah,
- 5:27Speaker 5: but he got hurt, right and he couldn't play anymore,
- 5:29Speaker 5: and that's that sucks for him. But Tarl Davis is in, right, Yeah,
- 5:33Speaker 5: it shouldn't be in either.
- 5:34Speaker 8: No, I'm gonna pay Robert Edwards all right.
- 5:38Speaker 4: Anyway, So let's get to current events. Uh, we got
- 5:42Speaker 4: the combine coming up next week. I know our staff
- 5:45Speaker 4: is getting ready for that. Uh, Deuce and Evan, you'll
- 5:47Speaker 4: be going down there.
- 5:49Speaker 3: Excited, very excited of the year combine number five for me,
- 5:54Speaker 3: very excited. I've been jumping in on all the all
- 5:57Speaker 3: the guys, you know, the all the prospects, and you know,
- 6:00Speaker 3: just putting together general thoughts of the class. And you know,
- 6:03Speaker 3: it's just when you need a lot, everything looks appealing.
- 6:06Speaker 3: I feel like that's like, you know, no matter what
- 6:08Speaker 3: position you kind of look at other than quarterback right now.
- 6:12Speaker 4: It's like going to supermarket when you're hungry.
- 6:13Speaker 3: I know, exactly thing looks good, Like whoa, I mean,
- 6:16Speaker 3: that's I think. I think Evan and I are con
- 6:18Speaker 3: on the same page about Mason Graham. But still he's good.
- 6:22Speaker 3: He's a good player. You know, it's easy to see
- 6:24Speaker 3: how they could use him, but you see other bigger
- 6:28Speaker 3: needs and I just I hope as a defense guy,
- 6:32Speaker 3: something that I beat last year into the drama of Like,
- 6:34Speaker 3: you know, I feel like the defense is kind of
- 6:36Speaker 3: falling apart personnel wise, and then it fell apart on
- 6:38Speaker 3: the field to last year, to you know, to a
- 6:40Speaker 3: really low level. I just hope that they can get
- 6:43Speaker 3: some really young players to build around on the defensive
- 6:45Speaker 3: side of the ball, in the front somewhere. And I
- 6:48Speaker 3: think it's a good class to be able to do that.
- 6:50Speaker 3: It's you know, those defensive ends and edges and even
- 6:53Speaker 3: a couple of the outside linebacker guys who can run
- 6:55Speaker 3: a little bit. Very intriguing and easy to Apparently Paul.
- 6:59Speaker 4: I had been talking to Dante's garneck here because Dante
- 7:02Speaker 4: says in number four, you pick guys who can get
- 7:04Speaker 4: to the quarterback and score touchdowns. I know that's who
- 7:07Speaker 4: you that's what you believe, right.
- 7:08Speaker 5: Well, where do you think I got it from?
- 7:10Speaker 2: From? Bill?
- 7:10Speaker 5: Bill said that for years? Yeah, those are the hardest
- 7:13Speaker 5: things to find.
- 7:14Speaker 4: Right, guys who can score touchdowns?
- 7:17Speaker 5: One guys score touchdowns and you pack the quarterbacks.
- 7:19Speaker 4: So fat does Mason Graham fit at least to get
- 7:22Speaker 4: to the quarterback. But I'm not saying he finishes, but
- 7:26Speaker 4: he can cause that to happen.
- 7:28Speaker 6: Yeah, if you if you're it's kind of splitting hairs.
- 7:32Speaker 6: You know, he's a pressure guy. I wouldn't say he's
- 7:34Speaker 6: a sack guy, but he definitely causes pressure up the
- 7:38Speaker 6: interior on the quarterback. So if that fits the bill,
- 7:43Speaker 6: you know, from that respect, then yeah, I would say
- 7:45Speaker 6: he can do that sort of thing.
- 7:47Speaker 4: So that's defense on offense. Ted McMillan had some comments
- 7:51Speaker 4: recently that I kind of liked, you know, like he's
- 7:55Speaker 4: showing a little bit of swagger.
- 7:57Speaker 6: Yeah, he definitely has a swagger. I think with Tep McMillan,
- 8:00Speaker 6: you just you worry about some issues with play speed
- 8:05Speaker 6: and long speed, you know, top end speed to win
- 8:07Speaker 6: over the top, and he just doesn't really have that
- 8:10Speaker 6: like dynamic gear in the open field that you would
- 8:14Speaker 6: think of of like a top five pick in the draft,
- 8:17Speaker 6: you know, like this is not when you pick a
- 8:19Speaker 6: receiver that high, you're expecting it to be Calvin Johnson,
- 8:23Speaker 6: Julio Jones, you know, like somebody like that. And that's
- 8:26Speaker 6: just not the level of prospect that he is. But
- 8:28Speaker 6: that doesn't make him a bad player. It's just you know,
- 8:31Speaker 6: I would say that about a lot of this draft,
- 8:32Speaker 6: right you.
- 8:33Speaker 4: Know, most of those guys, but somebody has to get
- 8:35Speaker 4: picked forth, you know.
- 8:36Speaker 6: Yeah, Mason Graham. You know, I was listening to Dame
- 8:38Speaker 6: Brugler on one of Paul's shows. He's like, well, he's
- 8:41Speaker 6: not Quentin Williams, but he's like a good prospect, right, Like,
- 8:44Speaker 6: that's what all this draft is like. Tep McMillan is
- 8:46Speaker 6: not Julio Jones.
- 8:47Speaker 8: But he's a good prospect.
- 8:49Speaker 4: You know.
- 8:49Speaker 8: It's a it's a tough spot. It's a tough spot
- 8:52Speaker 8: to be in.
- 8:53Speaker 4: Cam Wart's certainly lobbying for himself to go high. I mean,
- 8:58Speaker 4: does things like that, like when he says, you know, somebody,
- 9:03Speaker 4: you know, somebody's not gonna take me, but they're gonna
- 9:06Speaker 4: have to play me for the rest of my career
- 9:08Speaker 4: and they're gonna regret it. Does that help in his
- 9:11Speaker 4: you know, stock? Does that help his his stock at all?
- 9:15Speaker 4: Showing that confidence?
- 9:16Speaker 3: I mean, did you believe it when he said? Did
- 9:17Speaker 3: you hear him? I don't know, Like that's what I mean.
- 9:19Speaker 3: I just think a lot of this stuff is what
- 9:21Speaker 3: you have to say right now, especially as a quarterback,
- 9:23Speaker 3: trying to improve your stock and get him up into
- 9:25Speaker 3: the top five. And there's so much speculation whether or
- 9:28Speaker 3: not he's able to you know, whether he might be
- 9:30Speaker 3: able to do that, So I hope he can. I
- 9:33Speaker 3: think it'd be great for the Patriots if he's able to.
- 9:35Speaker 3: I just think there's two drafts right now, you're sitting
- 9:37Speaker 3: at four, or there's that wide world of a trade down.
- 9:40Speaker 3: I never thought a trade down was possible last year.
- 9:42Speaker 3: I thought you're gonna stick at three, kind of want
- 9:44Speaker 3: Drake may hope he's there. But now it seems like
- 9:49Speaker 3: they if they do get a trade opportunity. There's a
- 9:52Speaker 3: lot to like about trading down and some of the
- 9:54Speaker 3: opportunities that open. I say all that though, with they
- 9:56Speaker 3: need talent, and if there's a blue chip guy there.
- 9:59Speaker 4: Well there's not. There's no blue chain. There's there's two
- 10:05Speaker 4: and a half Genti's running back.
- 10:09Speaker 6: So I just don't even like, yeah, I'm not considering
- 10:11Speaker 6: that for the Patriots, but I think Carter and Hunter
- 10:13Speaker 6: are both blue chip prospects, right But you know, besides
- 10:17Speaker 6: those two, and in this draft, it feels like the
- 10:20Speaker 6: strength is in the top. You know, half of the
- 10:22Speaker 6: first round is in the depth of it, where like
- 10:25Speaker 6: four through twelve is kind of all the same level
- 10:28Speaker 6: of player. But the issue is with the trade down scenarios,
- 10:31Speaker 6: is that somebody needs to want to trade up, So
- 10:33Speaker 6: it's like, how are you convincing these teams behind you
- 10:36Speaker 6: to trade up for a player? Is more complicated in
- 10:39Speaker 6: my mind. And yeah, it would be great to trade down,
- 10:42Speaker 6: like this is a trade down year for multiple reasons.
- 10:45Speaker 4: You'd have to have a team that just loves a
- 10:47Speaker 4: certain player for a certain reason.
- 10:49Speaker 8: Yeah, probably a quarterback.
- 10:51Speaker 6: But even then it you know, it complicates things of
- 10:54Speaker 6: how much are you actually getting in the trade down
- 10:56Speaker 6: because this is a little bit of a water down
- 10:58Speaker 6: year for quarterbacks too, So is someone really gonna give
- 11:01Speaker 6: you a package that's worthwhile to come up and get
- 11:03Speaker 6: cam Ward Sanders? Like I don't know, So that when
- 11:06Speaker 6: it comes to the trade down, Like, that's the part
- 11:08Speaker 6: I can't wrap my head around. It's obvious why the
- 11:10Speaker 6: Patriots would want to trade down, sure, but why, you know,
- 11:13Speaker 6: why is somebody coming up to get their pick is
- 11:16Speaker 6: a different conversation because there's a million prospects, you know,
- 11:19Speaker 6: like as Deuce was saying, from four to twelve that
- 11:22Speaker 6: have appeal. You know, Will Campbell, Mason Graham, Teed McMillan,
- 11:25Speaker 6: Tyler Warren, Jalen Walker, like all those guys you could say,
- 11:29Speaker 6: if Patriots could use that guy. So trading down makes
- 11:31Speaker 6: a lot of sense, but you gotta get somebody to
- 11:34Speaker 6: bite on it.
- 11:35Speaker 4: I said, somebody has to be in love with a
- 11:37Speaker 4: certain player.
- 11:37Speaker 3: But the one, the one you kind of see popping
- 11:39Speaker 3: up right now is the Raiders trading up to four
- 11:41Speaker 3: to get sur That's some of the mock drafts that
- 11:43Speaker 3: people throw out there. I think they're seven or eight.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Maybe yeah, no, I mean, I don't know if you
- 11:47Speaker 3: buy it, but that you know, it's the move that
- 11:50Speaker 3: maybe would makes sense.
- 11:51Speaker 4: Like maybe I've just missed it. But are you surprised
- 11:53Speaker 4: that of the lack of noise we're hearing from Dion
- 11:56Speaker 4: Sanders and Doors should Door Sanders like this, like, you know,
- 12:01Speaker 4: a little bit like they've been quiet.
- 12:03Speaker 6: I think there's a lot of lobbying behind the scenes
- 12:06Speaker 6: going on the back channeling with those guys. I don't
- 12:09Speaker 6: think he wants to go to Cleveland. That's just my hunch.
- 12:12Speaker 6: I think that that's like a hard pass for him.
- 12:15Speaker 6: But I think if it was the Giants or the Titans,
- 12:18Speaker 6: he would be okay with it. But for some reason,
- 12:20Speaker 6: it sounds like Cleveland is for both guys, both Colorado guys.
- 12:25Speaker 4: Actually, so combine coming up. Obviously draft is innovable, but
- 12:28Speaker 4: before that, free agency is going to open up. And
- 12:31Speaker 4: we heard I guess it's still report. I don't know
- 12:34Speaker 4: if Cincinnati has confirmed it, but the report is that
- 12:37Speaker 4: they will be franchising T.
- 12:39Speaker 5: Higgins if they can't reach a long term extension. Yeah,
- 12:42Speaker 5: So I wouldn't expect that to happen until, like I mean,
- 12:45Speaker 5: it could happen today, it's the open of the window,
- 12:48Speaker 5: but they have till March fourth. Yeah, so if they
- 12:52Speaker 5: legitimately want to sign him, then continue to negotiate.
- 12:56Speaker 4: Yeah, and I think they will. I think they will.
- 12:58Speaker 4: Even if they can't reach an extension up until March fourth,
- 13:01Speaker 4: they'll they'll do it so they can keep control of
- 13:04Speaker 4: him because the thing they have to worry about is
- 13:07Speaker 4: Joe Burrow. They don't want to piss him off.
- 13:10Speaker 5: So you were you were, you know, been away a
- 13:12Speaker 5: long time. They don't shine shoes no more. Did you
- 13:14Speaker 5: hear Joe Burrow's comments last week called the salary cap
- 13:19Speaker 5: is my new favorite quarterback of all time? He's supplanted
- 13:21Speaker 5: l way what did he say? It's crap? Like you
- 13:25Speaker 5: can all these all the different things that teams can
- 13:27Speaker 5: do to get around it, and he's he's he's absolutely
- 13:32Speaker 5: absolutely going to be upset if they cop out and
- 13:35Speaker 5: cheap out and don't give him the money. And that's
- 13:41Speaker 5: what he's he like, people will do it, and they
- 13:44Speaker 5: I've already seen it. I think Javon Holland is one
- 13:47Speaker 5: of the guys that people cap casualty. That's not what
- 13:50Speaker 5: it is. It's not cap casualties. Is I don't want
- 13:53Speaker 5: to pay that guy that much to do that. That's
- 13:56Speaker 5: not a cap casualty. That's just I don't want that
- 13:59Speaker 5: player anymore were at that price.
- 14:00Speaker 2: You're right.
- 14:01Speaker 4: See again, I don't want to turn this into Fred
- 14:04Speaker 4: and Paul are saying the same thing, but they're arguing anyway.
- 14:07Speaker 4: But in the case of like to the show when
- 14:11Speaker 4: I left. But in the case of like the Saints,
- 14:14Speaker 4: they're going to have to make decisions, and the guys
- 14:16Speaker 4: that they decide to cut or do whatever with their contract,
- 14:20Speaker 4: those are a result of being over the cap.
- 14:23Speaker 5: So for guys they don't want, they'll get rid of.
- 14:25Speaker 4: It, right. But whether or not you want to call
- 14:28Speaker 4: them cap casualties or not, they are. They were cut
- 14:31Speaker 4: because of the cap.
- 14:34Speaker 5: It says you. I will respect your wishes to not
- 14:38Speaker 5: get involved, but.
- 14:39Speaker 4: You know what I mean, like, like I can agree
- 14:42Speaker 4: with you. Both things can be true. You can do
- 14:45Speaker 4: whatever you want with the cap, that is true, but
- 14:47Speaker 4: the cap causes you to have to do things.
- 14:51Speaker 5: Yeah, and that's that's all I'm saying. Yeah, well, I
- 14:54Speaker 5: think that there is a cap it right, It's just
- 14:56Speaker 5: you can do literally dozens of things, but sometimes avoid it.
- 15:01Speaker 4: But sometimes there's a sacrifice in order to be made
- 15:03Speaker 4: to do what you want to do for somebody.
- 15:05Speaker 6: I think the Ants are an extreme example because they're
- 15:09Speaker 6: the only team in the league that runs the cap
- 15:11Speaker 6: the way that they run it, So.
- 15:12Speaker 5: They post to children from from my end of the bargain.
- 15:14Speaker 6: Yeah, well, because they just look at it as like
- 15:17Speaker 6: credit and the bill never gets due.
- 15:18Speaker 5: And they're gonna be in the same next year.
- 15:20Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, we're as opposed to a team like Cincinnati,
- 15:23Speaker 3: where it feels more like they don't really want to
- 15:25Speaker 3: play the cash right, like they don't want to pay
- 15:27Speaker 3: the cash out. So it's two different things. But I'm
- 15:30Speaker 3: interested to see what other guys might get franchised to,
- 15:32Speaker 3: like you know what happens with Ronnie Stanley. I think
- 15:34Speaker 3: that's a move that if you're Baltimore, you probably want
- 15:37Speaker 3: to get him secured if you're gonna keep them. Uh.
- 15:40Speaker 3: We talked about Aler Jackson and in the with the Rams,
- 15:44Speaker 3: another young tackle that I've seen some speculation that maybe
- 15:46Speaker 3: he could get the tag. I think those are positions
- 15:48Speaker 3: that impact the Patriots where you know, if you don't
- 15:51Speaker 3: get Will Campbell, I just i'd loved Like I've said
- 15:52Speaker 3: up before, I'd love to get one of those top
- 15:54Speaker 3: ranked tackles in free agency if they're able to, and
- 15:56Speaker 3: those guys even hit free agency.
- 15:57Speaker 5: T Higgins thing I think impacts the pay. It's in
- 16:00Speaker 5: a negative way. And it's not just because well all
- 16:02Speaker 5: that they can't get T Higgins, that's the guy I
- 16:05Speaker 5: would I would target. But it's a trickle down, So
- 16:08Speaker 5: everybody was going to be interested in T Higgins. So
- 16:11Speaker 5: now everybody that was really interested in a wide receiver
- 16:14Speaker 5: is going to go to the next guy, right, you know,
- 16:17Speaker 5: And you know, like a team like the Chargers as
- 16:19Speaker 5: an example, who probably needs another weapon with Lad McConkey
- 16:23Speaker 5: to knock Quinton Johnston down. You know, in importance, maybe
- 16:28Speaker 5: they want Chris Godwin or maybe they want one of
- 16:30Speaker 5: the other wide receivers that's.
- 16:31Speaker 6: Available, digs maybe, Yeah, yeah, I think with Higgins gets
- 16:36Speaker 6: lost a lot of the time because it's the second
- 16:38Speaker 6: year in a row. It's only twenty six million dollars
- 16:41Speaker 6: to tag him for next season, which is nowadays that's
- 16:45Speaker 6: the going rate.
- 16:46Speaker 5: He's going to make it. He's only going to make
- 16:48Speaker 5: about thirty right, right.
- 16:49Speaker 6: So like we're not talking about it being an overpay
- 16:52Speaker 6: by any means for Cincinnati to just keep kicking it
- 16:57Speaker 6: down the road and have him play on the tag now,
- 16:59Speaker 6: Higgins could sit out, you know, I guess in theory.
- 17:01Speaker 5: But plus they have Hendrickson too, who they're going to
- 17:04Speaker 5: the same they're in the same spot, and obviously they
- 17:06Speaker 5: got to do something with Chase. But Chase is not
- 17:08Speaker 5: going to get he's not in a position to get franchise.
- 17:11Speaker 5: He's under contract. But yeah, yeah, Hendrickson is looking for
- 17:14Speaker 5: an extension. Chase is looking for an extension in Higgins.
- 17:17Speaker 5: So we'll see.
- 17:18Speaker 6: I just think when you talk hear people talk about it,
- 17:20Speaker 6: they're like, oh, it's a second year in a row,
- 17:21Speaker 6: it's this big jump. It's not that big of a jump,
- 17:24Speaker 6: like now instead of twenty it's twenty six and that's
- 17:27Speaker 6: the going rate for a really good wide receiver, twenty
- 17:31Speaker 6: six to thirty million dollars a year, So they're really
- 17:33Speaker 6: kind of underpaying him for next year in a way,
- 17:36Speaker 6: Like he's going to lose money a big time, I
- 17:38Speaker 6: would say, on the open market, because you know, if
- 17:40Speaker 6: he got himself into a bidding war with multiple teams,
- 17:44Speaker 6: you know, he was probably going to get closer to
- 17:46Speaker 6: the top of the market than the bottom of the market.
- 17:48Speaker 8: So if I waste Higgins that, you know, I'd be
- 17:49Speaker 8: pretty pissed that.
- 17:50Speaker 4: He might be. I don't have we heard from him
- 17:52Speaker 4: since they made that enough Well again they haven't announced it,
- 17:55Speaker 4: but the report.
- 17:56Speaker 8: Yeah, I don't think so.
- 17:57Speaker 3: Evan Kaish questions, I mean, I just all this talk
- 17:59Speaker 3: about the weapons of it all, and like and I
- 18:02Speaker 3: know you even said this, like it's hard not to
- 18:04Speaker 3: think about those tight ends in the draft this year
- 18:06Speaker 3: at four, you know, as much as Will Campbell is
- 18:09Speaker 3: a need And you know, Paul brought up the thing
- 18:12Speaker 3: that Dante said, like Gronk was the number one, you know,
- 18:15Speaker 3: like one of these tight ends is there is there
- 18:17Speaker 3: an argument to be made that you give Drake may
- 18:21Speaker 3: a dynamic, young tight end who's gonna be with him
- 18:23Speaker 3: for the long haul and can catch and can run
- 18:26Speaker 3: and has the size to do some of the dirty work.
- 18:28Speaker 3: And it's not the number one receiver that everybody's been
- 18:31Speaker 3: clamoring for, but it might actually be the number one
- 18:33Speaker 3: that Drake may needs.
- 18:35Speaker 4: It might be a more of a sure thing.
- 18:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I you know, I just I think
- 18:38Speaker 3: when you stack the talent up, like Evan said, like,
- 18:40Speaker 3: is there much of a difference between you know, these
- 18:43Speaker 3: guys with Tyler and you know, with Mason Graham at
- 18:47Speaker 3: that spot or we'll we'll Campbell at that spot.
- 18:50Speaker 8: Yeah, I don't know. I just tight ends are really intriguing.
- 18:53Speaker 6: Colston Lovelin's the other one from Michigan who's like more
- 18:56Speaker 6: in that Travis Kelce brock Bauers type of mold, like
- 18:59Speaker 6: a big reveran.
- 19:00Speaker 3: How many catches to brus have this year? You know what? Yeah,
- 19:03Speaker 3: it's an instant, high volume impact.
- 19:05Speaker 6: Now, he doesn't have a ton of targets throughout his
- 19:09Speaker 6: course of his college career like Tyler. Warren has you know,
- 19:13Speaker 6: been in college for like ten years, so he's has
- 19:15Speaker 6: a bunch of more production, more volume years but like that,
- 19:19Speaker 6: you know, it's it's fun. It's like two different categories
- 19:22Speaker 6: of tight ends like we talk about with Gronk and Kelsey.
- 19:25Speaker 6: You know, Tyler Warren is the Gronk prototype, Like he's
- 19:28Speaker 6: a six foot six, two hundred and fifty two hundred
- 19:30Speaker 6: and sixty pound tight end that can block, that can
- 19:33Speaker 6: put his hand in the dirt, that can catch the
- 19:35Speaker 6: football and do all those different things. And then Colston
- 19:38Speaker 6: Loveland is like an explosive receiver that's kind of just
- 19:41Speaker 6: like a giant slot receiver. And it's just a matter
- 19:44Speaker 6: of which guy, you know, which flavor would you rather have.
- 19:47Speaker 6: And I think there's a conversation for both those guys
- 19:51Speaker 6: in the spot for the Patriots. But in order to
- 19:53Speaker 6: get there, I feel like you have to address the
- 19:55Speaker 6: trenches in in free agency, Like you have to go
- 19:58Speaker 6: into the draft, yeah with a leftd to go into
- 20:01Speaker 6: the draft with some pass rush and go into the
- 20:02Speaker 6: draft with all those holes filled, because otherwise it's hard
- 20:06Speaker 6: to just pick.
- 20:07Speaker 4: What would you rather the Patriots get one or two
- 20:11Speaker 4: of the best at their position free agents or seven
- 20:16Speaker 4: or eight good players and free agents. One you'd rather
- 20:21Speaker 4: do one.
- 20:21Speaker 3: I'd rather get a Ronnie Stanley and a Chris Godwin
- 20:24Speaker 3: and and the Dre Greenlaw and those three guys, and
- 20:27Speaker 3: that's it, and go like, you know, three big spots.
- 20:29Speaker 5: Seven or eight good players. Yeah, I don't know, but
- 20:34Speaker 5: I'll take seven or eight good.
- 20:35Speaker 4: Players, I know. And even then, like even when no
- 20:37Speaker 4: matter who you get in free agency, like we've talked
- 20:40Speaker 4: about it before, half of them, if you get quantity half.
- 20:44Speaker 5: Of them award in general terms, my mindset would be
- 20:47Speaker 5: more like Mike. I'll you know, on my show, they say,
- 20:50Speaker 5: you know, give me the horse, not the ponies. Right,
- 20:53Speaker 5: But if you're talking about seven or eight as opposed
- 20:55Speaker 5: to three, you know, like brock Bauers, how'd they do?
- 21:01Speaker 5: But you know, you can't be any better than brock
- 21:03Speaker 5: Bauers was as a rookie tight end. Right, you said
- 21:06Speaker 5: all kinds of records, right, they stink. It's not his fault, right,
- 21:09Speaker 5: he's great. Yeah, but you know adding one or two, Yeah,
- 21:13Speaker 5: it doesn't do what it doesn't doesn't do what he
- 21:15Speaker 5: could do.
- 21:17Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm with Paul.
- 21:18Speaker 6: I would probably rather go that route and then look
- 21:20Speaker 6: for the ceiling in the draft. Then when you get
- 21:22Speaker 6: to the draft, you can really take those big swings
- 21:25Speaker 6: on those needle mover type players, whether it's a pass
- 21:27Speaker 6: rusher or pass catcher whatever. I think if they could
- 21:30Speaker 6: build the lines in free agency, then they can do
- 21:33Speaker 6: that in the draft. But it's a lot easier said
- 21:35Speaker 6: than done with the free agent market, especially on the
- 21:37Speaker 6: offensive line. Like are you going to be able to
- 21:39Speaker 6: build an offensive line through free agency? I don't know,
- 21:42Speaker 6: especially once Ronnie Stanley gets tagged and Tray Smith gets tagged,
- 21:46Speaker 6: and you know, now you're getting to free agency, and
- 21:49Speaker 6: you know Cam Robinson is the best tackle.
- 21:51Speaker 4: It's like, okay, you know, I just love I just
- 21:54Speaker 4: love it. Though you know, the super Bowl happens and
- 21:58Speaker 4: the Eagles win in the trend, but they won everywhere
- 22:01Speaker 4: else too, by the way, But thank you Kurt. You know,
- 22:04Speaker 4: but all of a sudden, that's the way to do it.
- 22:07Speaker 4: You have to build, have to set out. It's unbelievable,
- 22:11Speaker 4: you know.
- 22:11Speaker 5: Just like last year. You have to have a unicorn, right,
- 22:16Speaker 5: you have to have a running just.
- 22:18Speaker 3: I mean, it's it's fodder for super Bowl one.
- 22:20Speaker 5: You need the power suite.
- 22:22Speaker 3: Right, It's all we talked about a little bit last week.
- 22:25Speaker 3: It's fodder for our discussion and that's what we say.
- 22:27Speaker 3: But does it have a real impact on the draft itself?
- 22:31Speaker 3: And would you say that now whereas last year maybe
- 22:34Speaker 3: teams were like, we got to treat up and get
- 22:36Speaker 3: your standers. We need to find the unicorn. I mean,
- 22:39Speaker 3: just now, is the reaction well, I don't know, they
- 22:41Speaker 3: developed Jalen Hurts. They just went for the you know,
- 22:43Speaker 3: best defensive lineman. Let's just take Mason Grim. You know,
- 22:45Speaker 3: like this does it? Is it tangible results from this
- 22:49Speaker 3: or is it just kind of congeesutor.
- 22:50Speaker 10: I think that.
- 22:51Speaker 4: These personnel departments and these teams would be smarter than
- 22:53Speaker 4: I know. I know, right, like the recency body did
- 22:56Speaker 4: not affect them, but it's it may not be true.
- 22:59Speaker 6: Right, I think it's a copycat league in a lot
- 23:01Speaker 6: of ways. Like you we're talking about Bowers, Like those
- 23:03Speaker 6: two tight ends are going to fly off the board
- 23:05Speaker 6: because everybody's going to look at the rookie season.
- 23:07Speaker 4: That why not. No disrespect to Elliott Wolf, but Howie
- 23:12Speaker 4: Roseman seems to be a pretty good GM. I think
- 23:14Speaker 4: that's part of it too.
- 23:15Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, yeah he's on a heater it let's
- 23:19Speaker 5: fay everything he's searching right now, right, But I.
- 23:21Speaker 6: Also just like I think that Howie Roseman is a
- 23:24Speaker 6: testament to to consensus sometimes is the smartest way to go.
- 23:28Speaker 6: Like they have drafted name brand, big time program type
- 23:32Speaker 6: players like Jalen Carter, DeVante smith Landon Dickerson. Uh, you
- 23:36Speaker 6: know they're not going. They're not going to you teach Attauga.
- 23:40Speaker 6: You know, like they're not.
- 23:41Speaker 5: But not going. When I say that he's on a heater,
- 23:45Speaker 5: like the Jalen Carter pick is really enormous, and it's
- 23:49Speaker 5: not all that different to first iteration dynasty when Belichick
- 23:54Speaker 5: would take you know, like when you're on a heater
- 23:56Speaker 5: and you take Gronk when he didn't play it down
- 23:58Speaker 5: of football was last year at our owner and he
- 24:00Speaker 5: turns out to be the best tight end in history.
- 24:04Speaker 5: That's a pick that when you're on a heater and
- 24:06Speaker 5: you're going good works out. When Jalen Cotter, who should
- 24:10Speaker 5: have been probably the first overall pick, does some stupid
- 24:14Speaker 5: stuff in between his Georgia career and the draft and
- 24:17Speaker 5: falls to what ten ten I believe it, do you
- 24:22Speaker 5: take him? He just as easily could have continued to
- 24:25Speaker 5: do most stupid stuff and been in the police blotder
- 24:28Speaker 5: and you get nothing out of him. Instead, he was
- 24:31Speaker 5: the single most impactful player I watched in the playoffs,
- 24:35Speaker 5: you know, and I watched all the playoff games. He
- 24:38Speaker 5: was the most dominant player in the playoffs that I watched.
- 24:40Speaker 8: It's a testament to them.
- 24:42Speaker 5: That's that's when you live and right when you make
- 24:44Speaker 5: that pick, he falls in your app a, which is
- 24:46Speaker 5: first of all, that's a great break, and then he
- 24:49Speaker 5: doesn't do the stupid stuff yet anyway, and you win
- 24:52Speaker 5: a super Bowl, right, that's when you're living.
- 24:54Speaker 6: Right, testament to the program, you know, like the like
- 24:57Speaker 6: they brought him into a really good team and a
- 24:59Speaker 6: really good culture, and like they were able to so
- 25:02Speaker 6: far at least like put all that stuff on.
- 25:04Speaker 4: Speaking of that, it reminds me that episode one of
- 25:09Speaker 4: two thousand and four Super Bowl Odyssey what's the official name.
- 25:13Speaker 3: Yeah, design Episode two just dropped about a half hour.
- 25:17Speaker 4: They had the same scenario with Corey Dillon.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Yep.
- 25:20Speaker 4: They brought a guy who was a malcontent people thought,
- 25:23Speaker 4: you know, and they brought him into a program that
- 25:26Speaker 4: was established with veterans in a way about it.
- 25:29Speaker 5: That made that comp Yeah, and absolutely the same thing.
- 25:32Speaker 4: And Corey Dillon would worked out and there's some really
- 25:35Speaker 4: great stuff with Corey Dylon in it, So you can
- 25:39Speaker 4: find that anywhere you can get your podcasts. It's episode
- 25:42Speaker 4: one's out, episode one.
- 25:43Speaker 3: Of three, yeah, four out, one of four. Yeah, two's
- 25:46Speaker 3: out now and I have two more coming down the
- 25:47Speaker 3: pipeline rest of the week. But not shout out to
- 25:49Speaker 3: Paul and Matt who they actually did the dirty work
- 25:51Speaker 3: of interviewing Corey Dyllan. I know that might have been
- 25:53Speaker 3: a little scary for you, Paul, based on.
- 25:54Speaker 5: The Oh it was great.
- 25:55Speaker 4: Was he was terrific.
- 25:56Speaker 5: I told him, yeah, I told him you you were
- 25:58Speaker 5: literally one of three guys in that locker room. Really
- 26:01Speaker 5: that that frightened me, and he just started laughing, he
- 26:04Speaker 5: seems so. I told him the whole story ago.
- 26:06Speaker 4: So I remember, but you had you had Corey Dillon,
- 26:09Speaker 4: Oh yeah, Matt, Patricia, you had Scott Pioli, yeah.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Bruski cor yeah, yeah.
- 26:13Speaker 2: You know.
- 26:13Speaker 3: I felt like like Dion branch And and Bruski were two
- 26:16Speaker 3: that that had to have for that season. But no,
- 26:18Speaker 3: it was we were planning on doing three and then
- 26:20Speaker 3: Mac got into three and then we're like this is
- 26:22Speaker 3: two long, so we're doing three and four for uh
- 26:24Speaker 3: just the first two playoff games and then the last
- 26:26Speaker 3: the super Bowl and some reflections. It's good stuff.
- 26:29Speaker 4: It's all audio, yep, So put it on when you're
- 26:31Speaker 4: in the gym or driving or whatever. It's it's a
- 26:34Speaker 4: really good listen.
- 26:34Speaker 3: I'd say too, like I want to make one sales
- 26:37Speaker 3: point on it too, because it's something I realized listening
- 26:39Speaker 3: to a draft Matt sent me last night in my
- 26:41Speaker 3: car is like, it's so fun to listen to gilan
- 26:43Speaker 3: Gino's radio calls in your car again and to hear
- 26:47Speaker 3: that audio and to hear the fan reaction and there's
- 26:50Speaker 3: just there's nothing else like that, Like, and you know,
- 26:52Speaker 3: I heard, God, somebody around the office was just talking
- 26:54Speaker 3: to it might have been you Paul talking about those
- 26:57Speaker 3: guys yesterday and just how iconic those calls were, and
- 27:00Speaker 3: it just takes you right back to that age. And
- 27:02Speaker 3: I don't know, it's just there's something to me about audio,
- 27:05Speaker 3: like listening to it on the radio that just I
- 27:07Speaker 3: don't know, it triggers something in your memory really really cool.
- 27:10Speaker 3: So I just I enjoy that part. So if you
- 27:11Speaker 3: get a chance to listen to it, listen to your car,
- 27:13Speaker 3: listen loud You'll be like, you're sitting back in Jollette
- 27:15Speaker 3: Stadium when they were kicking butt back, it.
- 27:17Speaker 4: Just reminds you of how buttoned up they really were.
- 27:20Speaker 4: I mean that team was buttoned up, you know, And however,
- 27:23Speaker 4: had all the angles Patriots team.
- 27:25Speaker 3: Every Yeah, yeah, I mean that's.
- 27:28Speaker 4: I mean if O seven had completed the deal. But
- 27:31Speaker 4: when you look at just every aspect of it, you know,
- 27:34Speaker 4: it was the Eagles plus Tom Brady, you know, they
- 27:37Speaker 4: like wherever you looked at the team, they had really
- 27:39Speaker 4: good players.
- 27:40Speaker 5: Yeah. I think you can make an argument that the
- 27:42Speaker 5: old four team was more talented than the seven team. Now,
- 27:44Speaker 5: you're right, had they finished it, no one would ever
- 27:47Speaker 5: make I would because I'm a contrarian, I'm sure, and
- 27:50Speaker 5: I'm an argumentative by nature. But I just think that
- 27:53Speaker 5: there was no weakness on the four team, whereas I
- 27:56Speaker 5: thought that your seven defense was greatly prop up by
- 28:00Speaker 5: the offense. Yes, I don't think the defense was great.
- 28:03Speaker 5: It had great numbers.
- 28:04Speaker 3: Yeah, they were getting along in the submission.
- 28:06Speaker 4: Yeah, they made you a one dimensional team every game.
- 28:09Speaker 3: I think to the performance in the playoffs that stood
- 28:12Speaker 3: out to me going back because we kind of make
- 28:14Speaker 3: fun of them in the later years that their playoff teams.
- 28:16Speaker 3: In the first round, it was all right, this is
- 28:17Speaker 3: a gimme. You know, the first round. You're playing Peyton
- 28:20Speaker 3: Manning coming off of putting forty nine points on the Broncos.
- 28:23Speaker 3: He threw I think he threw forty nine touchdowns and
- 28:25Speaker 3: set the league record that year. I mean, that was
- 28:28Speaker 3: an elite offense that was coming into Gillette. And then
- 28:30Speaker 3: Pittsburgh had lost one game all year, you know, I
- 28:32Speaker 3: mean it's it's you know, and and the Patriots handled
- 28:34Speaker 3: them both pretty easily. I mean, the hardest of the
- 28:37Speaker 3: game the three was the Eagles, you know, but it
- 28:40Speaker 3: was the special team, special team. And you know, to
- 28:44Speaker 3: Evans kind of point with the Eagles, when you get
- 28:46Speaker 3: to this point where you're kind of from a position
- 28:50Speaker 3: of strength, you like your roster, there are a lot
- 28:51Speaker 3: of things you it gives you a little bit more freedom.
- 28:53Speaker 3: You're a little bit loose. Like now, is a Patriots fan,
- 28:57Speaker 3: color analyst, whatever covering this team. It's like kind of
- 29:00Speaker 3: tense because you need so much and you're wondering how
- 29:02Speaker 3: it's gonna fall. And you know, team like the Eagles,
- 29:05Speaker 3: maybe they probably didn't go and think but we're gonna
- 29:06Speaker 3: get Jaalen Carter. But they're like, sure, yeah, we don't
- 29:09Speaker 3: have any other you know, we don't have a huge
- 29:10Speaker 3: hole at left tackle right now, or we don't have
- 29:13Speaker 3: a huge hole at another position, pass rusher, whatever it is.
- 29:16Speaker 3: We can kind of do what we want. I think
- 29:18Speaker 3: it's just that's where that Patriots team was too. They
- 29:20Speaker 3: were able to kind of take chances, and you know,
- 29:22Speaker 3: you draft a guy like Ben Watson who didn't really
- 29:25Speaker 3: even do a whole heck of a lot, but still
- 29:26Speaker 3: became a pretty good player, and you know down the
- 29:29Speaker 3: road and you know, you just you're not so we
- 29:31Speaker 3: need it. We need it now. We need this guy
- 29:33Speaker 3: to come like this fourth overall pick, he's got to
- 29:34Speaker 3: come in. He's got to save our offensive line.
- 29:36Speaker 5: So you're the defending Super Bowl champs and you go
- 29:38Speaker 5: into the the draft with two number one.
- 29:41Speaker 4: This is so crazy.
- 29:43Speaker 3: All right, Well it's the same thing as Carter, right,
- 29:44Speaker 3: I mean that's what happened. Will Fork Will Fork Fell.
- 29:47Speaker 6: You know, the Bill is way ahead of the curve
- 29:51Speaker 6: in terms of draft pick value and all that kind
- 29:54Speaker 6: of stuff, and like they would just collect first round
- 29:56Speaker 6: picks in some years and you'd just be like, wait,
- 29:58Speaker 6: they have two foot Jones and Dante Tire, like, how
- 30:01Speaker 6: did this happen? And then like everybody else, I feel
- 30:04Speaker 6: like now has sort of caught up to the value
- 30:06Speaker 6: of the picks, but he was way ahead on that.
- 30:08Speaker 5: He used to credit Jimmy Johnson for it. You know,
- 30:11Speaker 5: Jimmy Johnson used to say, you know, they criticized him
- 30:14Speaker 5: saying it's it's draft Day, not trade day, and Jimmy
- 30:17Speaker 5: Johnson would laugh about it, and you know, him and
- 30:19Speaker 5: Belichick would have a lot of conversations and they you know,
- 30:22Speaker 5: obviously Dallas has that famous trade that they rebuilt their
- 30:26Speaker 5: entire team with the Herschel Walker move that was all
- 30:29Speaker 5: draft picks, really yep. And you know Bill did a
- 30:32Speaker 5: lot of the same stuff. But just like the Super
- 30:35Speaker 5: Bowl champs, and you come into the draft, you know,
- 30:38Speaker 5: three months later, two months later, with two first round picks,
- 30:41Speaker 5: one of which ends up tearing his ACL and doesn't
- 30:43Speaker 5: do anything for you, and it doesn't matter because you
- 30:45Speaker 5: got Will Fork who was a really good player and
- 30:48Speaker 5: contributed right away, and you had such a good team.
- 30:50Speaker 5: You end up acquiring again on draft Day, Corey Dillon,
- 30:55Speaker 5: which is you know, it's almost like a draft pick
- 30:58Speaker 5: because of the way it all came down.
- 31:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:00Speaker 5: I would say too, when you're living right and you're
- 31:02Speaker 5: making these moves and they're all working out.
- 31:05Speaker 3: Yeah, something you pointed out too in the podcast that
- 31:07Speaker 3: I was going through it where that you also had,
- 31:10Speaker 3: you know, the rising tide raises all ships. You had
- 31:12Speaker 3: younger players who were a Sante Samuel, You're not a
- 31:15Speaker 3: highly drafted guy, but surrounded by greatness and he kind
- 31:18Speaker 3: of gets swept up in it and now he starts
- 31:20Speaker 3: to play really well, make some key plays during that season.
- 31:23Speaker 3: It's a you know, you just you feel the difference
- 31:25Speaker 3: between when a team has that kind of energy, which
- 31:28Speaker 3: clearly Eagles and you know other teams have right now,
- 31:30Speaker 3: that the Patriots had back then that you know, sometimes
- 31:33Speaker 3: those moves like just because the culture, it would lift
- 31:36Speaker 3: guys up and guys would perform, you know, suddenly would
- 31:38Speaker 3: improve and contribute. And there just hasn't been enough of
- 31:41Speaker 3: that around here. I think that's something that's that's missing
- 31:44Speaker 3: that they're trying to get back to to establish that
- 31:45Speaker 3: to you know, try to get more of those draft
- 31:47Speaker 3: picks to develop.
- 31:48Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, but it was, you know what it
- 31:51Speaker 4: was a long time coming. It just didn't happen overnight.
- 31:54Speaker 4: It started in the in the nineties. You know, some
- 31:58Speaker 4: of the foundation of that defense in particular, happened in
- 32:02Speaker 4: the nineties.
- 32:03Speaker 3: Yeah, Vin Terry Bruce Ki Lawyer mcguinnis McGuinness. Yeah, you know,
- 32:07Speaker 3: it's Teddy Johnson another one. And you know, it's just
- 32:11Speaker 3: it's funny. Teams get on heaters, like Paul said, you
- 32:13Speaker 3: get you know, the Roman Fifers of the world and
- 32:15Speaker 3: the Mike Frables, and you sign these guys who are
- 32:18Speaker 3: more that second option, as you said Fred earlier, to
- 32:21Speaker 3: sign a bunch of guys who are good and they
- 32:23Speaker 3: all kind of work out, and not only do they
- 32:25Speaker 3: work out, some of them become, you know, Patriots Hall
- 32:27Speaker 3: of famers.
- 32:28Speaker 5: Let's mean you you went fifteen years with a first
- 32:32Speaker 5: round pick that was really good every you know, every time,
- 32:35Speaker 5: like it was like ninety plus percent. You know, it's
- 32:38Speaker 5: a hit rate. Now you don't do that, and it
- 32:40Speaker 5: was a long time. It wasn't yet.
- 32:42Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 32:42Speaker 5: I used to argue with Andy, Yeah, when I used
- 32:44Speaker 5: to call him a very good drafter, and Ady would
- 32:46Speaker 5: take exception to the very part, right, you know, imagine
- 32:49Speaker 5: that I was on fellow chick, very very very.
- 32:53Speaker 8: First round pick.
- 32:54Speaker 6: You always hit it down the fairway for years, like
- 32:56Speaker 6: you might for a long time.
- 32:57Speaker 8: It might not have been a game changer, but it was.
- 33:00Speaker 5: Like Ben Watson was just you know, he was a
- 33:02Speaker 5: good player. You know, I wouldn't call it home. But
- 33:04Speaker 5: you're also picking you know between twenty five and thirty.
- 33:07Speaker 4: Two, right right right, essentially a second you know, good blocker.
- 33:12Speaker 3: Yeah, Lawrence Maroney, the.
- 33:14Speaker 5: Lawrence Maloney was the first one that kind of missed
- 33:17Speaker 5: Brandon Maryweather Yeah, you know Merriweather.
- 33:20Speaker 3: Yeah, but even still kind of had the sony Michelle
- 33:23Speaker 3: saying where next year seven came through in some big
- 33:25Speaker 3: games and you know, helped you win some playoff games,
- 33:27Speaker 3: didn't get you over the hump.
- 33:28Speaker 5: Maroni was huge in the seven playoffs, in the two
- 33:30Speaker 5: games to get there, which were closer than people remember
- 33:34Speaker 5: the Jacksonville in Chargers games yep. And then you know,
- 33:39Speaker 5: obviously nothing worked in the offense on offense in the
- 33:41Speaker 5: Super Bowl.
- 33:42Speaker 3: It's so funny that Jacksonville and then Chargers with like
- 33:44Speaker 3: Philip Rivers playing on No. A cl right, and who
- 33:48Speaker 3: knows what was wrong with La Dania Tomins.
- 33:50Speaker 5: Gates, No Tomlinson on a quarterback on a towny a Celatriots.
- 33:55Speaker 3: Those were the days.
- 33:56Speaker 4: Those are the days, all right? A five five five
- 34:00Speaker 4: hundred is the tpx hutline. It's eight five to five
- 34:03Speaker 4: pass five hundred. Podcasts at Patriots dot com is the
- 34:07Speaker 4: email address? What else? Anything else that we need to
- 34:11Speaker 4: touch on?
- 34:12Speaker 5: But you had thoughts on the Basketball All Star Game.
- 34:15Speaker 3: Geez, he's freaking in.
- 34:16Speaker 11: Hot, no.
- 34:18Speaker 5: Magneuse.
- 34:20Speaker 4: When you know, when things are new, I like to
- 34:23Speaker 4: give them a shot just so I can have an
- 34:25Speaker 4: informed opinion on it. And so I wanted to see
- 34:28Speaker 4: how this new format was going to work out. And
- 34:30Speaker 4: it wasn't good. It was it was they still didn't try.
- 34:34Speaker 2: You know.
- 34:34Speaker 4: I made the example, like how many turnovers does Steph
- 34:38Speaker 4: Curry have in a normal game? Like hardly any? Right,
- 34:41Speaker 4: he had like ten, He's just throwing the ball, he's
- 34:43Speaker 4: taking half court shots. Guys aren't playing defense. It's they
- 34:47Speaker 4: they're still not trying. They're still not trying. So it
- 34:51Speaker 4: just wasn't good. And you know, the format now is
- 34:54Speaker 4: the first team to forty points, but they're taking breaks
- 34:57Speaker 4: in between and the players are getting aggravated on the
- 35:00Speaker 4: side like, can we just finish this game? It's just
- 35:05Speaker 4: I don't know what the answer is, but they haven't
- 35:08Speaker 4: found it yet.
- 35:09Speaker 3: It seems like they're trying, like they're.
- 35:14Speaker 4: That's why I invested the time.
- 35:15Speaker 12: I watched the whole night.
- 35:16Speaker 5: I would just do what the hockey does and go
- 35:19Speaker 5: with the US for the world. I mean, it won't
- 35:22Speaker 5: be like the hockey because hockey is just different, and
- 35:25Speaker 5: they'll they'll treat it. Hockey is going to treat it
- 35:27Speaker 5: more seriously than any of the other sports when they
- 35:29Speaker 5: do that. But there's enough good players, international players now
- 35:34Speaker 5: that you can have a good team, and I don't
- 35:36Speaker 5: I don't think that the players would go into it
- 35:38Speaker 5: and just say I don't care if we win or not.
- 35:40Speaker 5: I think there would be it might not be like
- 35:43Speaker 5: playoff intensity better be better than the typical.
- 35:47Speaker 4: The only difference is, like what hockey is doing, it's
- 35:49Speaker 4: you are still playing for your country. US versus the
- 35:53Speaker 4: world is us versus everybody you know lumped together in
- 35:58Speaker 4: one team. And so I don't know if the pride
- 36:00Speaker 4: would be there for the world team because who am
- 36:03Speaker 4: I playing for the world? You know, I'm not playing
- 36:04Speaker 4: for my country. They all hate us so they would guess,
- 36:09Speaker 4: you know, but it would be better if somehow you
- 36:12Speaker 4: could have, you know, a team from Serbia, a team from.
- 36:15Speaker 5: Yeah, there's not enough of that. I know, there is
- 36:17Speaker 5: the individual countries. I don't think there's enough from any
- 36:20Speaker 5: one country right to do it. And maybe if you
- 36:23Speaker 5: did it, like I don't know, Like like the gold
- 36:27Speaker 5: medal game with France was pretty intense.
- 36:29Speaker 8: It was intense, so it wasn't I mean, you never
- 36:32Speaker 8: felt like the US was going to lose.
- 36:33Speaker 5: You didn't know. I watched a different game because I
- 36:37Speaker 5: saw Steph Curry go absolutely out of his mind in
- 36:39Speaker 5: the last three minutes of the game when that was
- 36:40Speaker 5: the different The game was hanging in the balance. It
- 36:42Speaker 5: was a two point game, but.
- 36:43Speaker 8: That was always going to happen.
- 36:47Speaker 5: I mean, I I never read when I'm no longer
- 36:49Speaker 5: working here and I'm allowed to bet, I'm going to
- 36:51Speaker 5: talk to Evan and as.
- 36:55Speaker 6: I had way more attention in the semi final game
- 36:57Speaker 6: they actually almost lost.
- 36:59Speaker 5: They should have lost a semi five. Yeah, but I'm
- 37:01Speaker 5: just talking about the intensity level of the lat that
- 37:04Speaker 5: that France game, and France is not as talented, but
- 37:08Speaker 5: they were both going at each other. Yeah, but sell
- 37:10Speaker 5: he played out of his mind that death.
- 37:12Speaker 8: Yea in that game, played a whole tournament.
- 37:14Speaker 6: But yeah, I think the World Team is the best
- 37:16Speaker 6: way to do it. World versus United States. I don't
- 37:19Speaker 6: know if there will be an intense level to it,
- 37:21Speaker 6: but there is like a somewhat little rivalry brewing between
- 37:25Speaker 6: the fact that everybody thinks that the word the international
- 37:28Speaker 6: players are now better than the United States.
- 37:31Speaker 8: You know, players from well, there's just.
- 37:32Speaker 4: Not enough of them. They are some of the best
- 37:35Speaker 4: players in the NBA are international players.
- 37:37Speaker 6: Not all of the bench players on the in the
- 37:40Speaker 6: on the World team would be true all stars. But
- 37:43Speaker 6: they could make a team that you reconize.
- 37:45Speaker 4: Yeah, but you could get eight twelve guys.
- 37:47Speaker 6: Yeah, you'd have you know, guys like Jamal Murray would
- 37:50Speaker 6: be coming off the bench. You know, Bogdan bang Yanovitch
- 37:53Speaker 6: would be coming off the bench. Yeah, like they they
- 37:56Speaker 6: could make an NBA team out of it. But they're
- 38:00Speaker 6: starting five would be they're starting five, I think would
- 38:02Speaker 6: be better.
- 38:03Speaker 3: He's telling me about this guy who's going to be
- 38:04Speaker 3: the MVP. It's like or something.
- 38:09Speaker 8: I think they're starting five would be better?
- 38:11Speaker 4: What about No, I was gonna say like the top
- 38:16Speaker 4: college players.
- 38:19Speaker 6: Well they do that with the select team and it's
- 38:21Speaker 6: always like Cooper Flag will go off and everybody else
- 38:24Speaker 6: doesn't belong on the court. But you know, Cooper Flag
- 38:29Speaker 6: was like he could have potentially done like what Anthony
- 38:32Speaker 6: Davis did and been on USA this past time, you know,
- 38:34Speaker 6: as like the twelfth guy.
- 38:36Speaker 8: On the team.
- 38:36Speaker 6: But I think the World team could potentially put together
- 38:40Speaker 6: a good team. I just don't I don't know if
- 38:42Speaker 6: they would care. I don't know if they would care.
- 38:44Speaker 6: And that's all that matters, is if they care or.
- 38:46Speaker 3: Not about like two on two basketball, like at the beach,
- 38:49Speaker 3: Like that's the that's the.
- 38:50Speaker 6: I would say the best thing that I would want
- 38:52Speaker 6: to see at the All Star Game, which would probably
- 38:54Speaker 6: happen on Saturday night, is one on one. I think
- 38:56Speaker 6: that that would be fantastic.
- 38:58Speaker 5: So the women did a one on one thing and
- 39:00Speaker 5: it got a little attention, and then you know, I
- 39:03Speaker 5: think Giannis had said that he'd be interested in doing that.
- 39:06Speaker 5: So that's the key is if you can get the
- 39:08Speaker 5: stars to want to do it because they won't want
- 39:11Speaker 5: to lose one on one, You're gonna try because you
- 39:16Speaker 5: don't want to be in baddle. That's true, But how
- 39:18Speaker 5: about thinking out of the box double that said, I
- 39:21Speaker 5: hate one on one double the side of the court
- 39:23Speaker 5: and have ten on ten, So now you really have strategy.
- 39:28Speaker 3: Could there be like a five point.
- 39:31Speaker 5: With the I just think one on one?
- 39:33Speaker 2: Uh.
- 39:34Speaker 6: First of all, we all grew up playing one on
- 39:36Speaker 6: one against our friends, and so there's like that element
- 39:38Speaker 6: of it, which is cool, but like.
- 39:40Speaker 4: It's boring to watch.
- 39:42Speaker 5: I think it's boring.
- 39:43Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 39:44Speaker 6: One on one King of the Court like style is
- 39:46Speaker 6: a lot of fun, and like they like they do
- 39:49Speaker 6: that in these like Team USA practices and stuff, and
- 39:52Speaker 6: like there's that old video of KG just like going
- 39:55Speaker 6: up and down the court and he's just beating everybody
- 39:57Speaker 6: in his way, and he goes like through like the
- 39:59Speaker 6: entire Team USA roster and beats every single one of
- 40:02Speaker 6: them in one on one. Like if you know someone
- 40:04Speaker 6: did that in an All Star setting, I think it
- 40:06Speaker 6: would be cool. It does sound like the Dunk Contest
- 40:09Speaker 6: like that some of the guys, you know, obviously they're
- 40:12Speaker 6: trying to get like John Ant and those guys to
- 40:15Speaker 6: actually participate, and they were on Twitter after the Dunk Contest.
- 40:18Speaker 8: Being like, we need to beat this this G league.
- 40:21Speaker 4: Kid, but he's unbelievable.
- 40:22Speaker 5: He's jumping over cars, but that was way better than
- 40:25Speaker 5: Wake Griffin's jumping over.
- 40:26Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, he just did a kid. I think
- 40:29Speaker 4: this guy had the biggest sit in.
- 40:30Speaker 8: Well he dumped over the whole car in size.
- 40:35Speaker 3: Cadillac.
- 40:36Speaker 6: Yeah, but yeah, So I do think next year's dunk
- 40:39Speaker 6: contests could have some some bigger names. It sounds like
- 40:42Speaker 6: these the like stars are starting to be like, we're
- 40:44Speaker 6: really letting or we're letting this this G League kid
- 40:47Speaker 6: steal the show, like.
- 40:48Speaker 4: You know, maybe not gonna beat them.
- 40:49Speaker 5: Well, they're gonna have to. They're gonna have to do something.
- 40:51Speaker 5: Because I mentioned this yesterday on my show because it
- 40:54Speaker 5: was actually my show.
- 40:55Speaker 4: Yeah you you co hosted.
- 40:57Speaker 5: When have you ever remember NHL going against the NBA
- 41:01Speaker 5: and anything in the NHL winning killing And the NHL
- 41:04Speaker 5: killed them with that US Canada game Saturday night. And
- 41:08Speaker 5: I don't know what the numbers are because I don't
- 41:10Speaker 5: believe the numbers, as you know, but I'm just talking
- 41:12Speaker 5: about interests. No one was talking about your thing right
- 41:16Speaker 5: first to forty, which I actually kind of liked the
- 41:18Speaker 5: idea of that that rather than a time game. But
- 41:21Speaker 5: everybody was talking about I mean Twitter, Oh yeah, my
- 41:24Speaker 5: Twitter was blowing up. I don't know if you well
- 41:26Speaker 5: to be the three fights and nine seconds, My Twitter.
- 41:29Speaker 8: Was blown not exactly apples.
- 41:31Speaker 5: No, but it's I mean, it's an exhibition supposed to
- 41:34Speaker 5: be competition.
- 41:36Speaker 6: This is the first time that they've had international hockey
- 41:39Speaker 6: in like a decade, and like they and they weren't
- 41:41Speaker 6: in the last Olympics. The NHL players so like this
- 41:45Speaker 6: this one, Like you know, Matthew Chuck's talking about how
- 41:47Speaker 6: he's waited nine years to like play in a USA tournament. Yeah, so, like,
- 41:52Speaker 6: I think that's a little bit it's a little bit different.
- 41:55Speaker 5: I'm just saying the NHL got more attention absolutely than
- 41:58Speaker 5: the NBA, and that never I cannot recall that happening
- 42:01Speaker 5: a single time in my life.
- 42:02Speaker 8: Nope, No, that's fair.
- 42:04Speaker 2: All right.
- 42:04Speaker 4: So podcast at Patriots dot com is the email address.
- 42:08Speaker 4: We've got a combine on the table, we got free
- 42:10Speaker 4: agency on the table, NBA All Star, four Nations, whatever
- 42:14Speaker 4: you want to talk about, it's all on the table.
- 42:17Speaker 2: Uh.
- 42:17Speaker 4: So let's see James Pettigrew the most interesting Patriots fan
- 42:21Speaker 4: in the world, rights in.
- 42:23Speaker 5: About the game, Mike, I think we got it right.
- 42:26Speaker 5: The most interesting Patriots fan in the world.
- 42:28Speaker 4: Okayeh, make it a three verse three round robin contest.
- 42:32Speaker 4: Players can choose their own teams. Give the winning team
- 42:34Speaker 4: fifteen million bucks.
- 42:35Speaker 3: That's what it would take.
- 42:37Speaker 8: They've tried cash purse, They've tripped. These guys make so much.
- 42:42Speaker 3: Money they don't care.
- 42:44Speaker 6: Like they're making sixty million dollars a year, they just
- 42:46Speaker 6: don't care.
- 42:48Speaker 4: Yeah, it really is. It's a bum What if it's
- 42:51Speaker 4: a lot of money to your favorite charity, So if
- 42:53Speaker 4: you lose, you're letting down care the kids.
- 42:57Speaker 5: You know, Kobe had the thing. I know this made
- 42:59Speaker 5: the again yesterday. But when Kobe, you know, was really
- 43:04Speaker 5: bummed out about the lack of competitiveness in the All
- 43:07Speaker 5: Star Game, this is years ago, and he just said,
- 43:11Speaker 5: you know, like these guys treat pickup games at UCLA
- 43:17Speaker 5: like it's life or death. Why can't they do that
- 43:20Speaker 5: for one one day? Yeah, there's got to be some
- 43:23Speaker 5: way to incentivize them to try. Yeah, and I don't
- 43:26Speaker 5: know what it is. I don't know what the perfect
- 43:28Speaker 5: scenario is, but I haven't heard anything that's better than
- 43:31Speaker 5: setting up some facacta tournament US versus the world.
- 43:35Speaker 6: Yeah yeah, I was saying to Fred earlier though, like
- 43:37Speaker 6: I watching the All Star Game was like a religion
- 43:40Speaker 6: in my house, Like I watched it every single year.
- 43:42Speaker 6: They never tried until like the very end of the game,
- 43:45Speaker 6: like they.
- 43:45Speaker 5: Would, oh, this is not a new phenomenon.
- 43:48Speaker 6: They would always have like the Harlem globe Trotter's style
- 43:51Speaker 6: game for like three and a half quarters, and then
- 43:53Speaker 6: if the game was closed with like four or five.
- 43:55Speaker 5: Minutes ago, they would say, we might as well win it.
- 43:57Speaker 6: Yeah, they put their best five on. Each team will
- 43:59Speaker 6: go on the floor, and they play a real game
- 44:01Speaker 6: for like.
- 44:02Speaker 5: Someone might actually commit a foul.
- 44:03Speaker 4: Yeah yeah yeah. David Wisconsin writes saying if both Carter
- 44:07Speaker 4: and Hunter are available at number four and the Patriots
- 44:11Speaker 4: pass on both, how angry or disappointed will you be?
- 44:15Speaker 8: Not a scenario I'm considered.
- 44:16Speaker 5: I'd be angry if they passed on both of those.
- 44:19Speaker 4: God, yeah, yeah, I'd be really I can't imagine that happened.
- 44:22Speaker 5: I don't think I would resign like I did with
- 44:24Speaker 5: Richard Seymour, but I would be pretty angry.
- 44:28Speaker 4: We talked about this earlier, but Brandon and Maine wants
- 44:31Speaker 4: to know who we feel are the blue chip prospects.
- 44:35Speaker 4: Like we said this too, it's Travis Hunter, and it's
- 44:39Speaker 4: that seems to be the Carter right and.
- 44:41Speaker 3: Yeah, when they start to get into projections, you know,
- 44:43Speaker 3: it's guys that have Dwartz or you know, certain things
- 44:46Speaker 3: you got to get around, or guys are young and raw.
- 44:49Speaker 3: I think that's a common theme with.
- 44:50Speaker 5: Some of you guys. You know, we talked about tight
- 44:52Speaker 5: ends a little bit. You guys have any concerns about
- 44:55Speaker 5: Tyler Warren or the slow? Am I the only one
- 44:59Speaker 5: that doesn't like him as much as everybody else?
- 45:01Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 45:01Speaker 3: I haven't really allowed myself.
- 45:02Speaker 5: Fine, I've been the lone wolf a lot.
- 45:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I haven't. I look at him as the one
- 45:06Speaker 3: of the donut guys, one of the guys that's going
- 45:08Speaker 3: to go between four and twenty five, and I feel
- 45:12Speaker 3: like that's the spot where they're probably not.
- 45:15Speaker 4: I really haven't.
- 45:16Speaker 5: I really like him. I think he's a really good player.
- 45:18Speaker 5: I think he's got some versatility. I'm not sure he's
- 45:21Speaker 5: at that level that people say, but I'm by no
- 45:25Speaker 5: means my expert ten years in college.
- 45:28Speaker 6: I think it's a different know we're talking about about
- 45:31Speaker 6: him in Loveland earlier. It's it's a flavor thing, like
- 45:35Speaker 6: he's not he's not overly explosive, Like he's not a
- 45:40Speaker 6: field stretcher from that position. He's not a top end
- 45:43Speaker 6: speed guy. He's got some berth through the top of
- 45:46Speaker 6: routes and with the ball in his hands, but he's
- 45:48Speaker 6: just not a I wouldn't say his play speed like
- 45:50Speaker 6: pops off the tape at you. But he's so well rounded,
- 45:53Speaker 6: like he's he's so he's versatile, he can block from everywhere,
- 45:57Speaker 6: like he's.
- 45:57Speaker 8: Just he's zeroed prototypical.
- 46:00Speaker 6: Why tight ends like that? If they were to like
- 46:03Speaker 6: put a definition next to it, it would be a
- 46:05Speaker 6: prospect night Like Tyler wat it's.
- 46:06Speaker 4: So funny, And I think Tyler Warren falls into this
- 46:09Speaker 4: category for me. So many of these tight ends once
- 46:12Speaker 4: they get the ball in the hands that are already
- 46:14Speaker 4: like falling forward and when like like Gronk would be
- 46:19Speaker 4: an exception, like when he get the ball is his
- 46:22Speaker 4: he's trying to like make a guy miss. And a
- 46:24Speaker 4: lot of these tight ends, even like kind of the
- 46:27Speaker 4: really good ones, like they're already falling forward as the
- 46:32Speaker 4: guy comes to them. It's like almost like they want
- 46:34Speaker 4: to protect their legs. It's it's so weird. Have you
- 46:38Speaker 4: noticed that, Like Fourier was the trip a lot, Well, no,
- 46:43Speaker 4: but he but he was like the you know, the
- 46:46Speaker 4: leader of the pack with this, he looked like a
- 46:48Speaker 4: deer just born something.
- 46:49Speaker 5: When he had made a mistake of teasing him about
- 46:51Speaker 5: that once, he got really mad.
- 46:53Speaker 4: But even Kelsey now like in the when he was younger,
- 46:56Speaker 4: he didn't do this, but now like when when contacts coming,
- 46:59Speaker 4: like K'll go cover up and like start to lean
- 47:02Speaker 4: forward before a guy even hits him, you know. And
- 47:05Speaker 4: it just seems a weird thing about tight ends. There's
- 47:07Speaker 4: very few of them that actually try to like expose
- 47:10Speaker 4: himself and try to make a guy miss. Kind of
- 47:12Speaker 4: see it like two buckets and I would put Tyler
- 47:14Speaker 4: Warren in a category. He doesn't try to make guys miss.
- 47:17Speaker 6: He's like I'm gonna drag three people. He's not an
- 47:21Speaker 6: elusive open field runner, but when he gets up to
- 47:25Speaker 6: a top speed, he can he can move for his
- 47:27Speaker 6: size and then it's gonna take a village to put
- 47:29Speaker 6: him down because he's so big.
- 47:30Speaker 8: But yeah, he's not an elusive runner.
- 47:33Speaker 4: I'd agree, Ford and Savannah. Welcome back, Fred, Thank you, Evan.
- 47:37Speaker 4: I'm with you one hundred percent on the disrespect of
- 47:39Speaker 4: the Patriots and the Hall of Fame. Adams should become
- 47:42Speaker 4: truly famous by refusing the Hall of Fame jacket when
- 47:45Speaker 4: he finally gets it, or Brady could do the same
- 47:48Speaker 4: until he's deserving. Teammates get theirs, and they go in
- 47:51Speaker 4: as a team, just as they left the tunnel in
- 47:53Speaker 4: the first super Bowl of The Dynasty. One and lastly, Mike,
- 47:59Speaker 4: did you get your hair cut sport clips? Because I did?
- 48:02Speaker 4: You know, it looks very similar. The hairdresser asked me
- 48:04Speaker 4: if I wanted a number two. I said, I don't
- 48:06Speaker 4: know what that is, but sure now I look similar
- 48:09Speaker 4: to you. It's definitely too short in my head, looks
- 48:11Speaker 4: good in you though.
- 48:13Speaker 3: I went to Evans Place. Actually you went to right here.
- 48:19Speaker 8: Tomorrow.
- 48:20Speaker 4: I went there, right down the street.
- 48:22Speaker 5: I just thought the guy was gonna say I went
- 48:24Speaker 5: in and asked for the deuce.
- 48:26Speaker 3: Well I did, I actually deuce. I knew what the
- 48:28Speaker 3: two was, but I just wanted to get rid of it.
- 48:31Speaker 5: Shortened up.
- 48:31Speaker 3: It'll come back. I don't worry. It's a really bad
- 48:34Speaker 3: still got a really bad haircut last time they needed.
- 48:38Speaker 4: Options Alex and Raleigh fred I don't know what happened
- 48:43Speaker 4: on vacation, but you not wanting to get into an
- 48:46Speaker 4: argument with Paul is just Unamerican to fight the man.
- 48:49Speaker 4: Give him what he wants. But we've had the discussion before,
- 48:53Speaker 4: so it wasn't I didn't want to quite disconcerting.
- 48:55Speaker 5: It took me. It took me aback.
- 48:57Speaker 4: Onto the team. Uh, this team needs to protect Drake
- 49:00Speaker 4: and give them weapons. While our defense was abysmo beyond
- 49:03Speaker 4: what I pictured happening. I do think they broke under
- 49:06Speaker 4: the pressure of having to play perfect while the offense
- 49:09Speaker 4: did very little to help. I understand getting the best
- 49:11Speaker 4: player available on any side of the ball. I just
- 49:14Speaker 4: feel like I haven't seen a good offense in so
- 49:16Speaker 4: long on the Patriots since Brady left. And yes, Paul
- 49:20Speaker 4: Brady is the main factor in all of it. I agree.
- 49:26Speaker 5: Yeah, I think good defense was as bad as the offense.
- 49:31Speaker 5: I wouldn't blame the offense for the defense.
- 49:34Speaker 8: This past year.
- 49:35Speaker 6: I'd agree with that, but I do think there's a
- 49:37Speaker 6: path to a lot of the individual players having bounced
- 49:42Speaker 6: back years Like I don't think Kyle dugger will be.
- 49:44Speaker 8: As bad as he was at times last year.
- 49:47Speaker 6: You would like to hope that you have some guys
- 49:50Speaker 6: like ben Lee Pepper's bar more like maybe those guys
- 49:52Speaker 6: are available, sure, but yeah, that's possible. The team that
- 49:56Speaker 6: they put on the field last year was just as
- 49:59Speaker 6: bad as the off.
- 50:00Speaker 3: Absolutely when would can I ask you guys the timing question,
- 50:02Speaker 3: like if they were going to start jettisoning some of
- 50:04Speaker 3: these guys or you know, moving on from contracts, like
- 50:07Speaker 3: when would that start to happen? Would that be now
- 50:09Speaker 3: or would that would they wait till free agency? Like
- 50:12Speaker 3: I don't know what. When do you think they would
- 50:14Speaker 3: start cleaning house if they were starting to get rid
- 50:17Speaker 3: of some of these guys trim the fat?
- 50:21Speaker 5: Probably next month.
- 50:22Speaker 3: Like you get maybe at the combine, you put some
- 50:24Speaker 3: feelers out of the.
- 50:26Speaker 5: Who's available, so you see what is in your you know,
- 50:29Speaker 5: in your future when your plans. Yeah, and then you know,
- 50:32Speaker 5: the league year starts usually around what the twelfth thirteen.
- 50:35Speaker 8: Tenth was the legal tampering period.
- 50:38Speaker 5: Yeah, but when you have to actually be compliant.
- 50:40Speaker 8: Is I think it's I think it's the tenth and
- 50:42Speaker 8: the twelfth.
- 50:42Speaker 5: Okay, So if you have any moves like that that
- 50:45Speaker 5: you need to move. You can have your cap casualties
- 50:48Speaker 5: and move on.
- 50:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 50:50Speaker 5: But yeah, I mean clobally surprised that we haven't seen much.
- 50:55Speaker 3: No, I know, I mean I'm not surprised, but I'm
- 50:58Speaker 3: I'm curious. I'm just curious what they're going to do.
- 51:01Speaker 3: And it's it's you know, there there really haven't done much.
- 51:03Speaker 3: I mean, just you know, the Jeremiah Farms of it all.
- 51:06Speaker 4: I go by the Bill Belichick philosophy of don't make
- 51:09Speaker 4: a decision until you have to, like, you know, like
- 51:12Speaker 4: see what happens. But what if you want to then
- 51:16Speaker 4: then the right time you do.
- 51:18Speaker 5: Know, I'm just saying, like, if you decided that Mike
- 51:20Speaker 5: do show is not in our plans regardless under any situation.
- 51:24Speaker 4: So well, sometimes you do that, you know, like for
- 51:27Speaker 4: a veteran, just to give them an early start on things.
- 51:29Speaker 4: It's a courtesy. But if you don't have to make
- 51:31Speaker 4: a decision on a player right away, why do it.
- 51:35Speaker 5: I wouldn't suggest them making a decision on someone that
- 51:37Speaker 5: they're not sure about and saying.
- 51:38Speaker 4: If they sure, but if they well, but what about.
- 51:41Speaker 5: I haven't seen a lot of activity around the league.
- 51:43Speaker 5: I don't think that's common.
- 51:45Speaker 4: But what about like, you know, Okay, so we know
- 51:47Speaker 4: we're going to get rid of player A, but you know,
- 51:50Speaker 4: maybe another team would be interested in them and having
- 51:53Speaker 4: them on our roster.
- 51:55Speaker 5: Around the league. Yeah, you know, Debo, Miles Garrett, right,
- 52:00Speaker 5: Cooper Cup Yep, you know, maybe to a lesser extend
- 52:03Speaker 5: my dream of Micah Parsons.
- 52:06Speaker 3: You know what was one other piece of news we
- 52:07Speaker 3: didn't talk about. It was Nick Keyley being hired by Houston,
- 52:11Speaker 3: which I think is an interesting It'll be interesting comp
- 52:14Speaker 3: with Josh and Drake and Nick Keyley as a new OC.
- 52:18Speaker 3: You know, with Stroud down there be interesting to see
- 52:21Speaker 3: how that goes.
- 52:22Speaker 4: Okay, see if we're one that got away.
- 52:25Speaker 3: Yeah, if he's really got the juice, I mean, they
- 52:27Speaker 3: seemed very high on him.
- 52:28Speaker 5: If there was luck that he turned them down last year?
- 52:31Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 52:31Speaker 3: Or misfortune?
- 52:34Speaker 2: Right?
- 52:34Speaker 4: Travis in West Virginia. I have a question mostly for Paul.
- 52:39Speaker 4: I don't disagree with you, but if the two thousand
- 52:41Speaker 4: and four Patriots were the best Patriots team ever and
- 52:44Speaker 4: Donovan mcdahm was a stiff as you call him, then
- 52:47Speaker 4: why was the final score so close? Why the Patriots
- 52:51Speaker 4: never blew anybody out in the Super Bowl, says always
- 52:53Speaker 4: been a mystery to me.
- 52:54Speaker 5: I think they kind of low key one night, you know,
- 52:57Speaker 5: I never felt like Evan says that he never had
- 53:00Speaker 5: any fear of losing the game against France. I never
- 53:04Speaker 5: had any fear of losing. That's exactly. I had fear
- 53:06Speaker 5: going to Pittsburgh in the AFC Championship game, and I
- 53:09Speaker 5: know what the score ended up being, but that game,
- 53:12Speaker 5: to me was the Super Bowl. I never had any fear.
- 53:15Speaker 5: I thought that the Patriots did not play particularly well
- 53:18Speaker 5: in the first half of that game. The second half
- 53:20Speaker 5: they asserted their dominance. They got a ten point lead
- 53:22Speaker 5: with whatever it was three minutes left. Ye Eagles got
- 53:26Speaker 5: to know by the way touchdown at the end.
- 53:28Speaker 6: It's a perfect comparison exactly how I never felt that
- 53:32Speaker 6: game was in doubt.
- 53:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I didn't feel fear it myself.
- 53:36Speaker 3: Yeah you were thinking you were at that one.
- 53:39Speaker 4: Oh God, yeah, come on, I wasn't.
- 53:41Speaker 3: Oh that was the one Pop didn't get to go to.
- 53:45Speaker 8: The only other Patriots team.
- 53:46Speaker 4: I think he was just having a kid.
- 53:49Speaker 5: Based on what happened, it sounds like I lucked out.
- 53:52Speaker 8: The twenty fourteen team, I feel like is always.
- 53:55Speaker 5: Fourteen team is in the conversation.
- 53:57Speaker 6: Yes, for like my you know, I was pretty young
- 54:00Speaker 6: for the first part of the dynasty, so like that
- 54:03Speaker 6: was at the point where I actually knew what I
- 54:04Speaker 6: was watching when I was watching football, and the fourteen team,
- 54:07Speaker 6: I would say, is like our favorite out of like
- 54:10Speaker 6: you know that.
- 54:11Speaker 3: Me too, to be honest, me too. Yeah. I mean
- 54:14Speaker 3: I just as much as I was like a Patriots
- 54:16Speaker 3: fan for the first three it was like I was
- 54:19Speaker 3: super invested starting two thousand and six in every game
- 54:23Speaker 3: and every twist and turn and every playoff loss just
- 54:26Speaker 3: was an absolute dagger in my heart. And that's why
- 54:29Speaker 3: fourteen to me is always how Fred reallyted seventy sixteen. Yeah,
- 54:32Speaker 3: with the Jets on the Patriot.
- 54:35Speaker 5: Good my oh.
- 54:38Speaker 6: I just remember when they do the when you watch
- 54:41Speaker 6: the fourteen Super Bowl back, which I've I've done probably
- 54:43Speaker 6: a thousand times, and they do the intros of like,
- 54:46Speaker 6: you know, offense, defense, and they just they're doing the
- 54:49Speaker 6: Patriots intros and it's like like every player is like,
- 54:53Speaker 6: you know, it's Brady, it's Gronk, it's Edelman. It's like
- 54:57Speaker 6: even the offensive line is loaded, like You're just like, man,
- 55:00Speaker 6: this team just had no holes, like they were loaded
- 55:03Speaker 6: everywhere then like they're you know, Malcolm Butler is like
- 55:06Speaker 6: a fifth string corner, like you know, it's just they
- 55:09Speaker 6: had depth on defense, like crazy, that team was really good.
- 55:13Speaker 2: Yep.
- 55:13Speaker 4: I mean Dorel Reeves comes here for one year and
- 55:15Speaker 4: wins a championship. Yeah, like okay, that worked.
- 55:19Speaker 3: Yeah, you know I always have that on the chests.
- 55:21Speaker 4: Yeah, all right, we'll take a break when we come back.
- 55:24Speaker 4: More calls and emails here on Patriots Unfiltered.

- 57:05Speaker 15: It's time for another episode of Patch from the Past
- 57:07Speaker 15: podcast Matt Smith.
- 57:08Speaker 5: Along with Paul Rillo.
- 57:09Speaker 12: Please to be joined by number twenty eight. Can you
- 57:12Speaker 12: believe that number twenty eight? It is great to see
- 57:15Speaker 12: Corey dyllon here.
- 57:16Speaker 16: Corey, thanks for joining us, man, thanks for having me
- 57:19Speaker 16: you you know you start the old five season looking
- 57:22Speaker 16: you know, to win three in a row for a
- 57:23Speaker 16: three peat obviously hasn't been done.
- 57:27Speaker 5: Yeah, Kansas City is going to try to do it
- 57:28Speaker 5: this year.
- 57:29Speaker 2: It ain't gonna happen.
- 57:30Speaker 12: Why Why because it's never happened.
- 57:34Speaker 2: It's never happened. I don't. Everybody's shooting for you.
- 57:41Speaker 15: You since did you get that? Did you get a
- 57:43Speaker 15: sense that you're getting everybody's best shot?
- 57:44Speaker 2: You know? Absolutely absolutely? I think the four we were
- 57:51Speaker 2: getting everybody's best shot. Honestly, everybody's best shot. And I
- 57:57Speaker 2: think I think the consensus around the the league and
- 58:03Speaker 2: to most like you know what, we're tired of seeing
- 58:07Speaker 2: them win anyway. So I'm pretty sure. I'm pretty sure
- 58:13Speaker 2: teams are gearing up. They're gonna give Kansas City all
- 58:17Speaker 2: they can handle. I don't, I don't see I don't
- 58:20Speaker 2: see them three p at all.
- 58:22Speaker 15: Where did you see the pressures? Besides getting everybody's best shot?
- 58:26Speaker 2: Too?
- 58:26Speaker 12: Four was magical.
- 58:28Speaker 15: Nothing went wrong that year, and so you can't just
- 58:32Speaker 15: roll the balls back out again in O five. You gotta,
- 58:35Speaker 15: like Bill used to say, it's a new year, you
- 58:37Speaker 15: got to put in the work and everything like that.
- 58:38Speaker 15: Where did you see that things went wrong in O five.
- 58:42Speaker 2: I mean there was a lot of injuries. I mean
- 58:44Speaker 2: I missed games that that that that year. So yeah,
- 58:49Speaker 2: I mean you gotta have you gotta have some luck
- 58:53Speaker 2: to complete the mission of winning a Super Bowl man
- 58:57Speaker 2: and that and number one, stay and healthy is key. Uh,
- 59:02Speaker 2: I don't. I wasn't healthy. A lot of other players
- 59:05Speaker 2: that were down. So we kind of we kind of
- 59:08Speaker 2: struggled that year. We still we still made it to
- 59:10Speaker 2: the playoffs. I think we went up to Denver. We
- 59:15Speaker 2: lost to Denver. Should should which I thought we had
- 59:20Speaker 2: that we we would have seen Pittsburgh again and oh
- 59:23Speaker 2: what a feeling that would have been. That would have
- 59:25Speaker 2: been another good one. And I think, I don't know,
- 59:31Speaker 2: I think Pittsburgh did they win it that year?
- 59:34Speaker 5: Yes?
- 59:36Speaker 2: Yeah, we Honestly, I'm sitting here, I'm thinking, damn, I
- 59:40Speaker 2: could be had. I could have to two rings man,
- 59:42Speaker 2: to be honest with you.
- 59:43Speaker 5: Yeah, So you know, just from Afar, I would say,
- 59:46Speaker 5: you guys look like you're a little lot of guests
- 59:48Speaker 5: that too. In Denver, you know, a tough place to play,
- 59:50Speaker 5: no mile high. And I think all the sort of
- 59:53Speaker 5: attrition of the long playoff runs, Yeah, I think caught
- 59:56Speaker 5: up to you. But you want to say, you could
- 59:58Speaker 5: have had two forward to six and you got a
- 1:00:02Speaker 5: twenty one to three lead late in the second quarter
- 1:00:05Speaker 5: of the AFC Championship game.
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: Yeah, man, could it?
- 1:00:09Speaker 5: I think we might have ruined it for him.
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:00:12Speaker 12: Yeah, that was a different year though, Core They drafted
- 1:00:14Speaker 12: back in the first round. Yeah, what you're thinking when
- 1:00:18Speaker 12: you saw that happen?
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: Nothing like? Okay, I mean you still got to come
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: in here and play, like you know what I mean, Like,
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: just because you were drafted doesn't mean it doesn't mean anything.
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: A great player told me this. It doesn't matter what
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: round you're drafted. It matters what you do when you
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: get there. That's a great boomer of science. And so
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: you gotta still come in here and play. And then
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: at the at the end of the day, what's the
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: worst thing going to happen? Somebody get cut? I mean,
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: I'm not getting cut, So I'm not worried about that
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: aspect of it. So what it boiled down to two
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: was and you know what, Hey, we're gonna mix it up.
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: Hey we split carries, and that's fine with me. I
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: never griped about that whatsoever. I kind of thought of
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: it as hell, I need a break too. Sometimes maybe
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: this could that part as well, that part as well.
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: I never took it as a as a negative so
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: and then on top of that, Man, we embrace guys
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: that's coming in here that can help you win. Who
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: doesn't want that? So I never looked at it in
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: a negative light. I looked at it as a another
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: teammate here to help us win. And like you said, Man,
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: we get up there, we get up there to Andy
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: Man and and I'm thinking, man, were going back, and
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: then I don't know what happened, Man, many happened that
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: big head Fela with the work and pulled a number
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: on us. Man.
- 1:01:44Speaker 5: And I didn't mean to gloss over one of the
- 1:01:46Speaker 5: more underrated playoff victories of the dynasty. And that's the
- 1:01:50Speaker 5: week before in San Diego.
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: Oh Man, I think I think Ladani is still mad
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: about that. When you're question we went to win that game,
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: Nope at all. And I think they were the favorites
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: to win at all.
- 1:02:06Speaker 12: They were fortune and too.
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, so and actually going up to San Diego
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: and playing one hell of a team. Man, that team
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: was good on defense, good on offense, and we were
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: in a slugfest all four quarters and they actually go
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: up there and come out with the win. Was was special.
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: That was a good win for us.
- 1:02:30Speaker 15: I don't want to trivialize it, because I think when
- 1:02:32Speaker 15: you say that you're a part of a trivia question, it.
- 1:02:35Speaker 12: Trivializes the accomplishment. But I do Paul had mentioned this earlier.
- 1:02:39Speaker 15: I don't know how many Patriot fans right off the
- 1:02:41Speaker 15: top of the head go, oh, single season record rushing record,
- 1:02:43Speaker 15: Corey Dillon sixteen hundred yards. That's a hell of an
- 1:02:46Speaker 15: accomplishment and one you must be very proud of to
- 1:02:49Speaker 15: see that record still stands today.
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: I'm proud, man. I'm just proud to be a part
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: of the history here. Man, That's what I'm proud of. Yeah.
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: I always got the attitude of records are meant to
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: be broken, which they they are. Some young step would
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: come come along in here and eclipsed that. But you
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: know what, I'm I'm a cherish it since I got
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: it now, you know. So it was great, man. It's
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: a reflection on that year, who I played with, the
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: people who was around the organization, and to cap that
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: that great season of rushing off with a super Bowl. Man,
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: that's that's everything. That's something I never forget, never forget.
- 1:03:36Speaker 5: Yeah, as those six you know, obviously a very disappointing
- 1:03:39Speaker 5: we just talked about it. Very disappointing end. Did you
- 1:03:41Speaker 5: sort of have an idea in your mind of what
- 1:03:44Speaker 5: the future was going to hold for you?
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, yeah, man, I I just had enough, I
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: think at that point, you know, like, yeah, I'm getting older.
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: I was like thirty two, man, I was, I was.
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: I was in my late early thirties, I mean, and
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: I'm thinking, man, I already gave you so much to
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: this game, I mean, and in my mind, what more
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: can I do? Or what more do I want to do?
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: You know? And at that time, some of the older
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: guys that hang around, you know, catch bad, bad injuries,
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: you know. So and the style of football I like
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: to play, yeah, that was coming. That was coming. So
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: I just thought to myself, like, man, this might be
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: the best time to shut it down and go figure
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: out something else to do with your life.
- 1:04:39Speaker 12: Which is, what what are you up to these days?
- 1:04:40Speaker 12: I think fans would want to know.
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: Man, I'm trying to fix this hook I got in
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: golf with the driver. Hey, I get a hold of it.
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: I mean, for the most part, I'm putting it out
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: there three hundred plus. But sometimes I have these snap
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: hook So that's that's the thing on my agenda lately.
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: It's fixing that hook. Yeah. And then other than that, man,
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: I'm just I'm just living the easy life, man, and
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: just get my kids through through school and things like that.
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: Just a normal, normal life.
- 1:05:18Speaker 12: That's the way it should be, man, Yeah, that's the
- 1:05:20Speaker 12: way it should.
- 1:05:22Speaker 5: And now great moments in.
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: History.
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: I was told that I said carry on wrong. I
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: said carry on. It's carry on one word, like like
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: the bag. It's a carry on, not.
- 1:05:38Speaker 5: Carry on, cape calm and carry on. It's the action
- 1:05:42Speaker 5: to the read before we get in trouble.
- 1:05:43Speaker 4: Okay, only liquid's allowed, blood, sweat, and tears. Catch carry
- 1:05:49Speaker 4: on December thirteenth, only on Netflix.
- 1:05:54Speaker 5: Okay, you know these things intrigued me. Yeah, so I
- 1:05:58Speaker 5: carry on that you would carry on to an airplane
- 1:06:01Speaker 5: is pronounced differently than carry on.
- 1:06:02Speaker 4: Yeah, carry on, So my carry on I.
- 1:06:06Speaker 5: Don't see carry on. I carry on my bring your
- 1:06:09Speaker 5: carry on.
- 1:06:10Speaker 8: I feel like carry on.
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: I feel thank you.
- 1:06:12Speaker 5: What I'm saying you.
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: Just said was wrong. But Paul, you just said that's
- 1:06:17Speaker 4: not you didn't use it as a now use it
- 1:06:20Speaker 4: as a verb. You said, I carry on my bag.
- 1:06:22Speaker 4: That's not what it is. It's a carry on my back.
- 1:06:25Speaker 5: It's my carry on. It's not my carry on. It's
- 1:06:27Speaker 5: it's my carry on, my carry on back, my carry
- 1:06:30Speaker 5: on back.
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: But but when you say, but when you say carry on,
- 1:06:34Speaker 4: I'm not changing carry on, carry on, carry on, carry
- 1:06:37Speaker 4: on the conversation.
- 1:06:38Speaker 5: It's my carry on. It's I'm saying it the exact putting.
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: The carrier, Paul, It's different, Larry listen, carry listen, carry on.
- 1:06:48Speaker 4: Carry You put the emphasis on on when it's a verb.
- 1:06:52Speaker 5: Okay, on, I don't, but you do.
- 1:06:56Speaker 4: You just don't. You want to admit it, but you do.
- 1:06:58Speaker 4: You're just being the whole thing.
- 1:07:00Speaker 5: I got that hood I mean, you've got that hood shirt.
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: And that's why you're being stubborn.
- 1:07:04Speaker 5: That's why it's getting under your skin.
- 1:07:06Speaker 12: That's another great moment.
- 1:07:10Speaker 4: All right back here.
- 1:07:11Speaker 5: Did you see carry on?
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: I did not see it.
- 1:07:14Speaker 5: Carry on?
- 1:07:14Speaker 4: We watched it, yeah, yeah, yeah, not great, No, not great, not.
- 1:07:19Speaker 5: Great, Yeah, it was worth a watch.
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: Speaking of not great, I watched that Saturday Night Live special.
- 1:07:25Speaker 5: Really yeah, not great, No, not really funny. No, I'm
- 1:07:31Speaker 5: talking about this like the Sunday.
- 1:07:32Speaker 4: Night the two and a half hour I heard a
- 1:07:34Speaker 4: half hour I have heard that.
- 1:07:36Speaker 5: The music one that I think was on Friday Night
- 1:07:38Speaker 5: I haven't was excellent. Now it's not really for me, yeah,
- 1:07:42Speaker 5: but if you're a music fan, you know, like a
- 1:07:43Speaker 5: live music kind of fan, like I heard, it was outstanding.
- 1:07:47Speaker 5: Matt Smith thought it was ridiculous. But man's a huge live.
- 1:07:53Speaker 3: Huge huge you can't understand, particularly if he gets to
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: watch it outdoors.
- 1:07:57Speaker 4: So it wasn't like recapping all the best before in
- 1:08:00Speaker 4: the past.
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: There is one of those. That's what I was gonna
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: ask Paul, because I think there was a concert and
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: I'm not sure if there's an actual video of the concert.
- 1:08:06Speaker 3: But then there's also a special that I watched that
- 1:08:08Speaker 3: was great Fred that was about the history of the
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: music on Saturday Night Live, and it was really well done.
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: I really enjoyed that one.
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: Because the great thing about Sura Night Live was well,
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: I don't know if it was great depending on your taste,
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: but the way it started it was always bands you
- 1:08:22Speaker 4: never heard of in the early days. It was never
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: top line bands. It was like they had b fifty
- 1:08:28Speaker 4: twos before anybody who b fifty twos.
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: Was rock lobster.
- 1:08:34Speaker 4: And then I think as it as it. You know,
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: in the later years they had more headline you know, acts,
- 1:08:40Speaker 4: but it was always like obscure bands that were just
- 1:08:43Speaker 4: starting out.
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: They still introduced me to a couple of bands. I
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: would say, like, I mean they have I think now
- 1:08:48Speaker 3: they get hot artists and you know, people that are
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: right breaking right now.
- 1:08:52Speaker 6: I would say, yeah, now that's like in the moment
- 1:08:54Speaker 6: right now. Yeah, you know, they'll get like Sabrina Carpenter,
- 1:08:58Speaker 6: like as she's on the Shabootz.
- 1:09:01Speaker 4: Like, wasn't white stripes like on Saturday Night Live, you
- 1:09:04Speaker 4: know when they were still starting out.
- 1:09:06Speaker 5: Yep, they were just blue stripes.
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: Blue again.
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:09:12Speaker 4: But the you know, I I had high expectations because
- 1:09:16Speaker 4: I used to love Saturday Night Live, but it they
- 1:09:19Speaker 4: overthought it, and so I think they had the characters
- 1:09:22Speaker 4: they decided to bring back and do in the moment skeits,
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: skits and not like like Debbie Downer, really we're gonna
- 1:09:30Speaker 4: bring her back.
- 1:09:31Speaker 5: That's there was too many. I think it was it
- 1:09:33Speaker 5: was hard because there was too many.
- 1:09:34Speaker 3: People that you had to incorporate.
- 1:09:37Speaker 5: Yeah, I could have. I think it would have just
- 1:09:40Speaker 5: been fine if they just went with cast members. Yeah,
- 1:09:43Speaker 5: but I agree it wasn't I didn't watch all of
- 1:09:47Speaker 5: it on Sunday night. I kept putting it on and uh,
- 1:09:50Speaker 5: the Eddie Murphy thing I thought was hilarious when he
- 1:09:52Speaker 5: did Tracy Morgan that.
- 1:09:53Speaker 4: Was that was that? But what but they screwed that
- 1:09:55Speaker 4: segment up. They they veered away from the actual spirit
- 1:09:59Speaker 4: of the segment and they got into I forget how
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: they ended it up. But if they just stuck to
- 1:10:03Speaker 4: how that segment was, it would have been great, because
- 1:10:06Speaker 4: I agree Eddie Murphy did unbelievable. Meanwhile, Tracy Morgan's right next.
- 1:10:12Speaker 5: Sitting right there, and I do think that's an underrated
- 1:10:15Speaker 5: I don't know if you ever watch it. Sometimes I
- 1:10:16Speaker 5: got on these YouTube rabbit holes and I find these various.
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: Thestern games from the seventies.
- 1:10:21Speaker 5: Well that's generally how I start.
- 1:10:24Speaker 8: You hear it from.
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: You watched some of you grind some filbal NASA.
- 1:10:29Speaker 5: You're watching Billy Jaffey breaking down Adam Gotta Patrick in
- 1:10:34Speaker 5: the eighteen you know, uh them pot final look at that.
- 1:10:38Speaker 4: Of course, what was.
- 1:10:40Speaker 5: I Celebrities impersonating other celebrities. There's some really like that.
- 1:10:47Speaker 5: Eddie Murphy's Tracy Mos was next level. That was funny.
- 1:10:52Speaker 5: And there's some of those satting like like Kate McKinnon
- 1:10:55Speaker 5: does some really good ones. You can get some some
- 1:10:59Speaker 5: funny stuf off out of that, but just.
- 1:11:01Speaker 4: Not Kate McKinnon's overrated.
- 1:11:02Speaker 5: There weren't enough of those.
- 1:11:04Speaker 3: I like Kate m overrated. I like we got Sally
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: O'Malley out for the fiftieth. You know, she kicks I
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: kick stretch. I like that just a touch. I agree, though,
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: I think there were They brought so many people back
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: and everyone I remember think Tina Fey was like, I'm
- 1:11:17Speaker 3: a writer this week, So you know that there were
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: so many writers coming back and a lot of egos
- 1:11:21Speaker 3: and yeah, you're probably going to get something.
- 1:11:22Speaker 4: Some of the best parts that started your live where
- 1:11:24Speaker 4: the commercial takeoffs, and the way they handled that was
- 1:11:27Speaker 4: to give you like three or four seconds of the
- 1:11:30Speaker 4: best one, so it was like a quick montage. They
- 1:11:32Speaker 4: didn't do any new ones.
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I was a little disappointed with the Samberg Lonely
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: Island digital short they did that wasn't very.
- 1:11:40Speaker 4: Like the Anxiety. Yeah, that was it was. Yeah, it
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: was that. Some of the song and dance numbers were
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: like why did they have to do those? Like the
- 1:11:49Speaker 4: wedding one do Mando? Yeah, it was just not funny,
- 1:11:52Speaker 4: not funny. I want to laugh, be funny.
- 1:11:57Speaker 5: I want to laugh. Make me laugh.
- 1:11:59Speaker 4: Some of the four people are you know, you know
- 1:12:02Speaker 4: you can't do anything about that.
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: Do you see though, Bill Murray coming back to in
- 1:12:06Speaker 3: the top ten lists or the top that was that
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: wasty sketch. He's kind of funny, a good delivery.
- 1:12:12Speaker 5: Yeah, I thought that was good, but not great. That
- 1:12:15Speaker 5: was but I liked I liked that. I liked that
- 1:12:17Speaker 5: they did that.
- 1:12:18Speaker 4: When they did the montage of the physical comedy, I
- 1:12:20Speaker 4: laughed at that, like seeing Chris Farley smash you know,
- 1:12:24Speaker 4: that made me laugh, even though it was just again
- 1:12:27Speaker 4: a montage of people falling all over the place.
- 1:12:31Speaker 3: What do you think happens when Lauren Michaels goes away?
- 1:12:34Speaker 3: I mean, it's just crazy that he's been running the
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: show for for fifty years. I mean it's kind of
- 1:12:39Speaker 3: like you Fred, I mean, you know the weird the
- 1:12:42Speaker 3: Weird Year. Yeah, so one year he went away a
- 1:12:45Speaker 3: little bit and then came back. But I mean, he's
- 1:12:47Speaker 3: just been such an institution in that place. I can't
- 1:12:50Speaker 3: imagine it's ever going to be the same.
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: A lot of people thought their best moment was the
- 1:12:53Speaker 4: Adam Sandler song I don't know if you.
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: I don't think I got through that.
- 1:12:58Speaker 4: It was really good. It was really so.
- 1:13:00Speaker 5: He performed an original song.
- 1:13:01Speaker 4: Yeah, an original song about Saturday Night Live. Yeah, tear
- 1:13:05Speaker 4: it up during it, Yeah, Sandman, he was good that.
- 1:13:09Speaker 5: I haven't seen that. We make it on my Twitter feed.
- 1:13:13Speaker 4: It's like three hours long.
- 1:13:14Speaker 5: Yeah, no, but I'm surpris like I used to like
- 1:13:16Speaker 5: the Anie Murphy thing. I didn't see live, man. I
- 1:13:19Speaker 5: saw it on on on the Twitter machine we.
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: Do usually do. We watched through the news and then
- 1:13:23Speaker 3: kind of.
- 1:13:23Speaker 4: Well, that's what they made a joke about that. They
- 1:13:25Speaker 4: had a fake commercial about stuff that puts you to sleep.
- 1:13:31Speaker 4: Nothing puts you to sleep more than the skit after
- 1:13:34Speaker 4: the news on Saturday Night Live. Yeah, which is true.
- 1:13:38Speaker 4: You start falling asleep after the news.
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: Okay, it's cool though. My kids have kind of developed
- 1:13:42Speaker 3: a little bit of appreciation for us and now, and
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: like I used to VCR tape it like I would.
- 1:13:46Speaker 3: That was what, like I think I learned to use
- 1:13:47Speaker 3: my VCR like the time it you know, when you
- 1:13:49Speaker 3: had to like all right on it eleven twenty five
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: and then out at like one oh five and you know,
- 1:13:53Speaker 3: get up and watch it. So it's uh, that's crazy.
- 1:13:56Speaker 3: It's been around this long.
- 1:13:57Speaker 4: Love it all right?
- 1:13:59Speaker 3: Uh?
- 1:13:59Speaker 4: Dan and Lynch has issue with Evan. He says, Evan,
- 1:14:03Speaker 4: I've heard you comment a few times recently about Tyler
- 1:14:05Speaker 4: Warren's age and how he will be old for rookie.
- 1:14:08Speaker 4: According to Wikipedia, he's twenty two years old, won't turn
- 1:14:11Speaker 4: twenty three until after the draft, which is pretty average
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: for a standard graduating senior. Am I missing something?
- 1:14:17Speaker 8: I believe he's gonna be a twenty four year old rookie.
- 1:14:19Speaker 4: This is why a Wikipedia isn't coorrect. You need to
- 1:14:22Speaker 4: go in.
- 1:14:22Speaker 8: But regardless, yeah, you know, he's not ancient, Like he's.
- 1:14:26Speaker 4: Not what you were being hyperbolic when you talked about
- 1:14:30Speaker 4: ten years in college. Oh yeah, he.
- 1:14:32Speaker 6: Just because I feel like he's just been on the
- 1:14:35Speaker 6: radar for a long time.
- 1:14:38Speaker 8: Yeah he's not.
- 1:14:39Speaker 6: No, he's not thirty, but he's he's going to be
- 1:14:42Speaker 6: like a twenty three or twenty four year old rookie.
- 1:14:44Speaker 6: And you just you know, we don't have to go
- 1:14:45Speaker 6: down the whole age thing, but it's just usually at
- 1:14:48Speaker 6: that point you're you're capped like that, you're kind of
- 1:14:51Speaker 6: you're at the point of this is who you're going
- 1:14:53Speaker 6: to sort of be as.
- 1:14:54Speaker 5: And that's part of like when people talk about age,
- 1:14:57Speaker 5: I think the perception from fans is, well, what's the
- 1:15:01Speaker 5: big deal, He's still going to be ten twelve years
- 1:15:03Speaker 5: in the league. Wouldn't you want that? That's not necessarily
- 1:15:06Speaker 5: what the fear about the age is is the development,
- 1:15:08Speaker 5: like how much better can he get? Yeah, And to
- 1:15:11Speaker 5: Evan's point, I think a lot of scouts would look
- 1:15:13Speaker 5: at a guy that's twenty four and say, okay, now,
- 1:15:16Speaker 5: Jaden Daniels again, pretty good, right.
- 1:15:19Speaker 6: I would just argue that Jayden Daniels didn't get better,
- 1:15:22Speaker 6: he was just always really darn good. I think that's
- 1:15:25Speaker 6: I agree with Paul that I think that's one of
- 1:15:27Speaker 6: the biggest misconceptions is people think it's about career longevity
- 1:15:31Speaker 6: and like how many contracts. It's really more about the
- 1:15:33Speaker 6: fact that you're the younger. Breakout guys tend to be
- 1:15:37Speaker 6: like the great athletes, right, Like you know, Jamar Chase,
- 1:15:41Speaker 6: Christian Gonzalez was a young breakout guy. Drake was a
- 1:15:43Speaker 6: young breakout guy. Like those guys tend to be the
- 1:15:46Speaker 6: ones that have truly special athleticism, Travis Hunter. You know,
- 1:15:50Speaker 6: like if you wait Lebron James until sure, if you
- 1:15:53Speaker 6: wait till you're a fifth year senior, and now all
- 1:15:56Speaker 6: of a sudden, you're you know, you look like a
- 1:15:58Speaker 6: man amongst boys, Well, you kind of are as.
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: Dan also says I'm all about sticking at number four
- 1:16:04Speaker 4: and taking Will Campbell regardless of his arm length. But
- 1:16:07Speaker 4: if we trade down a few spots, I think Warren
- 1:16:10Speaker 4: might be a great fit for the Patriots offense, like
- 1:16:13Speaker 4: a good tight ends a good fit for any offense.
- 1:16:16Speaker 3: Yeah, you know.
- 1:16:18Speaker 4: Joel and Ottawa. I'm bracing myself for a free agent letdown.
- 1:16:23Speaker 4: I think they'll be active, but it's going to be
- 1:16:25Speaker 4: middle class heavy. I do believe the money is going
- 1:16:28Speaker 4: to be spent in the trenches and not the skilled positions.
- 1:16:31Speaker 4: My belief is Drake is good enough to make a
- 1:16:33Speaker 4: wide receiver better with more time spent in the pocket,
- 1:16:36Speaker 4: and therefore money on Higgins or Godwin won't be wouldn't
- 1:16:40Speaker 4: be well spent.
- 1:16:44Speaker 3: I mean, it's a balance. I definitely default more towards
- 1:16:48Speaker 3: finding guys that are going to be a part of this,
- 1:16:51Speaker 3: but I also think that you need an injection of
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: a little bit of leadership, a little bit of you know,
- 1:16:55Speaker 3: outside presence. Not guys who are going to preach how
- 1:16:58Speaker 3: we did things when the Patriot Way went here, but
- 1:17:01Speaker 3: guys who know how to go about their business and
- 1:17:02Speaker 3: guys who can set a tone. And I think that's
- 1:17:05Speaker 3: part of the appeal for me with some of these
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: veteran wide receivers, like a Godwin, just get that room
- 1:17:09Speaker 3: in order, you know, get start to establish a little
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: bit of consistency there and leadership, and you know, hopefully
- 1:17:17Speaker 3: you also bring in another rookie. I would say, I'm
- 1:17:19Speaker 3: all for, you know, continuing day true rookies with wide receivers,
- 1:17:22Speaker 3: keep bringing those guys in, and you know, just you're
- 1:17:24Speaker 3: not gonna be able to get t Higgins. Probably it's
- 1:17:26Speaker 3: just you got to just try to keep stacking guys
- 1:17:29Speaker 3: at that wide receiver position and hope somebody breaks out
- 1:17:31Speaker 3: at some point.
- 1:17:31Speaker 5: It's a chicken or the egg thing too, Like obviously
- 1:17:33Speaker 5: they need better line play, they need better protection. You
- 1:17:36Speaker 5: can't go into a season without tackles again. But if
- 1:17:40Speaker 5: you don't have anybody to throw to, no line is
- 1:17:43Speaker 5: just going to give you limitless options.
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:17:46Speaker 5: The Chiefs had three all pros, right, but they don't
- 1:17:50Speaker 5: have anybody that can get open. And Mahomes ended up
- 1:17:53Speaker 5: getting killed, you know, So it was Yeah, the line
- 1:17:56Speaker 5: play was bad and the Eagles defensive line dominated, but
- 1:18:00Speaker 5: the Eagle secondary also dominated. They they blanketed their very
- 1:18:04Speaker 5: average group of receivers until the game was over. And
- 1:18:08Speaker 5: Worthy he made a bunch of catches in the second half,
- 1:18:10Speaker 5: but but he didn't have any impact on the game. Yeah,
- 1:18:12Speaker 5: I think he had like seven for one hundred and whatever,
- 1:18:14Speaker 5: but it was meaningless. It was all garbage time.
- 1:18:17Speaker 6: Yeah, like you eat both the Patriots current wide receiver room.
- 1:18:21Speaker 6: I guess maybe I do hear that a decent amount
- 1:18:24Speaker 6: that like there were receivers would be okay. I I
- 1:18:27Speaker 6: kind of just disagree, Like I I really just don't
- 1:18:29Speaker 6: like any of their receivers really outside of Pop Douglas
- 1:18:32Speaker 6: maybe in like especially a certain type of role you
- 1:18:35Speaker 6: know that you have him in, but even him, like
- 1:18:38Speaker 6: I worry about volume and durability and like could he
- 1:18:41Speaker 6: be really get targeted one hundred and twenty five.
- 1:18:44Speaker 5: Maybe a Josh receiver.
- 1:18:45Speaker 6: I don't think so, right, And so I mean really,
- 1:18:48Speaker 6: when you look at the depth chart, I just I
- 1:18:50Speaker 6: just wears like the reliability wears, like the consistency for
- 1:18:54Speaker 6: many of those guys, even though they flash like Kaishan
- 1:18:57Speaker 6: Booty had moments lash year.
- 1:18:59Speaker 8: But you're not, you don't. Good team's not relying on
- 1:19:01Speaker 8: a guy like Keishawn Mooody.
- 1:19:03Speaker 4: Is Polpe redeemable, you know, new offensive staff, you know,
- 1:19:07Speaker 4: a fresh start.
- 1:19:08Speaker 3: Since some footage of him came out over the last
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: week of him training, he's got a big old armbrace
- 1:19:13Speaker 3: on that he's you know, working out with. But I
- 1:19:15Speaker 3: think that was an injury suffered towards the end of
- 1:19:17Speaker 3: the last couple of games, right like like the end
- 1:19:19Speaker 3: of maybe the second last game of the season. I think,
- 1:19:22Speaker 3: so he's you know a little bit in recovery as well.
- 1:19:24Speaker 5: I don't know what to respect from him, So I
- 1:19:26Speaker 5: would say, yes, he's redeemable. I think he's going to
- 1:19:29Speaker 5: be with the you know, a second year Drake may
- 1:19:32Speaker 5: which will help him and they should have better protection
- 1:19:35Speaker 5: and all that stuff. But do you look and watch
- 1:19:37Speaker 5: him and say Okay, this is a high end receiver.
- 1:19:40Speaker 5: No do you think the skills like I know, we
- 1:19:43Speaker 5: had a bad year. I'm trying to eliminate his performance.
- 1:19:46Speaker 4: How can I do that? How can I go back
- 1:19:48Speaker 4: to what you see.
- 1:19:48Speaker 5: In training camp when he was catching a million passes?
- 1:19:51Speaker 5: Do you did you see high end ability?
- 1:19:53Speaker 4: I didn't know, but I didn't see him.
- 1:19:55Speaker 5: But he can be better than he was like on
- 1:19:57Speaker 5: the during the.
- 1:19:58Speaker 4: Camp, he could be a like a pe, you know,
- 1:20:00Speaker 4: and cam'p he did what he was asked to do,
- 1:20:02Speaker 4: and so I don't know if he had the opportunity
- 1:20:04Speaker 4: to show us high end Okay.
- 1:20:05Speaker 5: But I would say and I've been critical of to
- 1:20:08Speaker 5: Mario Douglas as well, right because of the things that
- 1:20:10Speaker 5: Evan just said. I don't know about him being a
- 1:20:12Speaker 5: high volume kind of guy. I did see high end
- 1:20:15Speaker 5: ability at times in practice when he's cutting across the
- 1:20:18Speaker 5: field and all of a sudden, turning the corner for
- 1:20:20Speaker 5: thirty yards and no one's catching, no one's near him.
- 1:20:22Speaker 5: I didn't see that with Jalen Polk. I don't see
- 1:20:25Speaker 5: the same Like now, they're different kinds of players. I
- 1:20:28Speaker 5: get that, but I don't see the same explosiveness the
- 1:20:31Speaker 5: same athlete.
- 1:20:32Speaker 4: That one thing you could say, wow, you know.
- 1:20:35Speaker 5: Yes, I would say that Polk figures to get better
- 1:20:37Speaker 5: with Josh McDaniels and with the second year Drake May.
- 1:20:41Speaker 5: But how much better will he be? I don't know
- 1:20:43Speaker 5: what his ceiling. I don't know that his ceiling is
- 1:20:45Speaker 5: very high.
- 1:20:46Speaker 8: I don't think it was very high coming out, Like.
- 1:20:48Speaker 5: I got you guys were both very Lukewarman the pick
- 1:20:51Speaker 5: that the day had happened.
- 1:20:52Speaker 6: Because I feel like we're kindred spirits when it comes
- 1:20:56Speaker 6: to wide receivers.
- 1:20:57Speaker 5: Like I think we do kind of like the same
- 1:20:59Speaker 5: kinds of receivers.
- 1:21:00Speaker 6: You know, I want guys that can run by people
- 1:21:02Speaker 6: like imakers. I don't really have very much interest in like,
- 1:21:05Speaker 6: you know, the nine yard per catch guy, right, Like, yeah,
- 1:21:08Speaker 6: it's cool to move the chains and you need that guy,
- 1:21:10Speaker 6: but I want that guy on third down.
- 1:21:12Speaker 5: But just to be such perfection out of the quarterback position,
- 1:21:15Speaker 5: to operate like that. Yeah, and that's what you had
- 1:21:17Speaker 5: for twenty years, Luther.
- 1:21:18Speaker 3: It's one of the great questions I got going into
- 1:21:20Speaker 3: like OTA's camp. It's just like, what does Josh think
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: of these receivers? How does Josh see these guys fitting
- 1:21:25Speaker 3: into everything. I haven't totally ruled out Polk. I hear
- 1:21:28Speaker 3: everything Paul saying. I still think, you know that he
- 1:21:31Speaker 3: could be a physical, reliable, strong handed number three, you know,
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: that kind of guy that can can come in and
- 1:21:38Speaker 3: that makes my area, especially if he's got two guys
- 1:21:41Speaker 3: with some dynamic ability to move, you know, one guy
- 1:21:44Speaker 3: you can move around and another guy with some speed
- 1:21:46Speaker 3: on the outside, and then it maybe gets a little
- 1:21:48Speaker 3: easier for Jalen Polk worries me about him. Was just
- 1:21:51Speaker 3: he looks so lost last year. Is that going to
- 1:21:53Speaker 3: get better with a Josh McDaniels offense. You know, we'll
- 1:21:56Speaker 3: we'll see.
- 1:21:57Speaker 5: Couple the lack of explosiveness in my view, my view,
- 1:22:00Speaker 5: not fact, my view, with what looked to be sort
- 1:22:05Speaker 5: of a shaky mental aspect of the game. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:22:08Speaker 5: I would say the.
- 1:22:09Speaker 3: Whole room really. I mean that's why it's it's hard
- 1:22:11Speaker 3: to single him out because I think the whole room
- 1:22:13Speaker 3: had mental brain farts through off the season, and.
- 1:22:17Speaker 5: Your favorite Kendrick Bourne, my guy.
- 1:22:19Speaker 6: I just wonder that is Josh, you know, are we
- 1:22:22Speaker 6: still going to be doing the Edelman Welker slot and
- 1:22:25Speaker 6: we're still doing all which is fine, like if we are,
- 1:22:27Speaker 6: but you know, that's a very specific type of player
- 1:22:30Speaker 6: that you have to go out and target, and they
- 1:22:32Speaker 6: exist in this draft.
- 1:22:33Speaker 5: Your guy Miami.
- 1:22:36Speaker 6: Comp him to Danny Emmon Doola. I think he's a
- 1:22:38Speaker 6: clone of those types of guys. But you know, that's
- 1:22:40Speaker 6: that's not the big play down the field what I want, right,
- 1:22:43Speaker 6: that's like we're going to run the little jukeer out
- 1:22:45Speaker 6: and we're going to get open over the middle and
- 1:22:47Speaker 6: we're gonna hit him, you know. So it is that
- 1:22:50Speaker 6: still the archetype for Josh McDaniels in the middle of
- 1:22:53Speaker 6: the field and the slot receivers and the tight ends
- 1:22:56Speaker 6: or you know, in Vegas they did try to pivot
- 1:22:59Speaker 6: DeVante Adams, you know, and like have a little.
- 1:23:01Speaker 8: Bit more of an outside a little bit though.
- 1:23:04Speaker 6: Yeah, then Jacoby obviously Myers, you know, goes there to
- 1:23:08Speaker 6: be the same kind of guy. So I just wonder
- 1:23:11Speaker 6: with that aspect of like, you know, what, what type
- 1:23:14Speaker 6: of receiver would they even be looking at in that respect,
- 1:23:17Speaker 6: because I do think Polk has a little bit of
- 1:23:19Speaker 6: Jacoby Myers like to his game, but I don't know
- 1:23:22Speaker 6: if he's got the mental makeup that Jacoby did.
- 1:23:25Speaker 4: All right, eight five five pass five hundred is the
- 1:23:27Speaker 4: TPX outline. Let's go to Brad in Ohio.
- 1:23:30Speaker 11: What's up Brad, hey, fellows, how you doing this afternoon?
- 1:23:35Speaker 4: Okay?
- 1:23:37Speaker 17: Good?
- 1:23:38Speaker 11: I got a few quick inside, real quick for you.
- 1:23:42Speaker 11: I agree with Evan about Coaston or not. I want Coaston,
- 1:23:47Speaker 11: love them, so we draw if we moved back into draft.
- 1:23:51Speaker 11: I'm a Michigan fan, so you know, I'm not trying
- 1:23:53Speaker 11: to be biased, but I want Coast because he's the
- 1:23:56Speaker 11: younger too. If I'm not mistaken, I think Evan knows,
- 1:24:01Speaker 11: and that would be moved back to twelve and fifteen.
- 1:24:04Speaker 11: But I'm not outside the realms of drafting Mason Graham either,
- 1:24:09Speaker 11: for the reasons. He's an A plus path rusher, a
- 1:24:12Speaker 11: plus blockshtter, especially if somebody's trying to block him one
- 1:24:15Speaker 11: on one. God luck with that, and he is stamina.
- 1:24:20Speaker 11: Evan's kind of maybe right with that in double teams.
- 1:24:23Speaker 5: I kind of, you.
- 1:24:24Speaker 11: Know, gravitate towards what Evans said with that, But he
- 1:24:27Speaker 11: is an A plus ever guy and he runs down
- 1:24:30Speaker 11: place from the back, So that that's one thing I
- 1:24:34Speaker 11: wanted to say, certainly, if we move back, I'd love
- 1:24:38Speaker 11: to see Coast in Loveland. I think he'd be an
- 1:24:41Speaker 11: outstanding fit. I don't know where Donovan. I think Alex
- 1:24:45Speaker 11: Bird went and called, you know a couple of weeks ago,
- 1:24:48Speaker 11: said that Donovan Edwards is seventh round draft pick. We
- 1:24:52Speaker 11: can't let him slip that long, not in a Patriots uniform.
- 1:24:55Speaker 11: We need to get him in the fifth round, fourth
- 1:24:57Speaker 11: round something. And then Kenneth Grant, if we moved back,
- 1:25:01Speaker 11: another defensive lineman Luthor Board, uh, Luther Burden, or if
- 1:25:06Speaker 11: we if we moved back, if we could move back
- 1:25:09Speaker 11: up to grab those guys, and then a linebacker from
- 1:25:12Speaker 11: Iowa Higgins, don't know what round he's gone, and he's
- 1:25:15Speaker 11: gonna be outstanding. Uh, Khalil Mauling more of a blocking
- 1:25:20Speaker 11: type running back might fit. And the Henderson guy, where
- 1:25:25Speaker 11: is he going to be drafted?
- 1:25:28Speaker 6: Running back from Ohio State? Probably like him and Junkins
- 1:25:32Speaker 6: are probably both going to be Day two picks.
- 1:25:36Speaker 11: And then and then Josiah Stewart. Can we get him
- 1:25:38Speaker 11: with the third pick, our last third pick?
- 1:25:42Speaker 5: High school?
- 1:25:43Speaker 4: Really?
- 1:25:45Speaker 5: Right, that's the guy I'm thinking about, right? Well, he
- 1:25:49Speaker 5: had that there was another guy at Michigan.
- 1:25:51Speaker 4: That was just Stewart, one of my guys appreciate as
- 1:25:56Speaker 4: you can tell, certainly a draft.
- 1:25:59Speaker 5: Thing is he left went out with the there's there's
- 1:26:01Speaker 5: this a big time corner, right is Will Johnson?
- 1:26:03Speaker 8: Well Johnson, Yeah, yeah.
- 1:26:04Speaker 5: With no love for Will Johnson, the Michigan guy we
- 1:26:07Speaker 5: had to gain.
- 1:26:11Speaker 4: And everybody.
- 1:26:11Speaker 6: Yeah, Will Johnson's got got like some comps that are crazy,
- 1:26:14Speaker 6: like Patrick Sartan, like this guy's going to be a stud.
- 1:26:17Speaker 6: Other people are lower on him. But uh, he mentioned
- 1:26:20Speaker 6: a couple of guys. I just watched Kenneth Grant and
- 1:26:22Speaker 6: yesterday the nose tackle from Michigan, you know, more of
- 1:26:26Speaker 6: like a you know four to three nose tackle one
- 1:26:28Speaker 6: you know, one shade whatever. But he's a good player.
- 1:26:31Speaker 6: He's strong, you know, just really strong upper body. Uh,
- 1:26:34Speaker 6: you know, not going to be moved. And uh, Jazia
- 1:26:37Speaker 6: Stewart's one of my Senior Bowl guys. Like he's somebody
- 1:26:39Speaker 6: that I thought popped in Mobile, but he's not really
- 1:26:42Speaker 6: really undersized. He's like six one, two hundred and forty
- 1:26:46Speaker 6: two and forty five passes.
- 1:26:47Speaker 5: Is the ever guy.
- 1:26:48Speaker 8: So he's good to know. I have to ask him
- 1:26:50Speaker 8: about that.
- 1:26:52Speaker 3: Yeah, you visit the Baseball Hall of Fame.
- 1:26:54Speaker 8: He's an undersized pass of Fame.
- 1:26:57Speaker 4: Wow, why not are you? How do you ever it
- 1:27:01Speaker 4: overlooks you interested to get snubbed and Evert you get snubbed.
- 1:27:08Speaker 5: No, it's a good question.
- 1:27:09Speaker 3: They didn't discover his pitching.
- 1:27:10Speaker 5: I'm a small hull guy. I wasn't good enough. The
- 1:27:15Speaker 5: running wasn't it wasn't good.
- 1:27:17Speaker 4: They got guys are twenty four and in high school,
- 1:27:19Speaker 4: so you know what, Yeah, you have a lot of
- 1:27:22Speaker 4: old guys in Evert.
- 1:27:24Speaker 5: And yeah, no, yeah, no, they're big time recruits coming.
- 1:27:28Speaker 5: Well now they don't have any they don't have the
- 1:27:30Speaker 5: same talent. But these gets like Lewis Cene and Sandra
- 1:27:33Speaker 5: Still and these guys were big time recruits. They were
- 1:27:36Speaker 5: not overage kids when they went to college. These were
- 1:27:39Speaker 5: blue chippers, both good players.
- 1:27:41Speaker 8: So it's Jasiah Stewart.
- 1:27:43Speaker 4: Do you want?
- 1:27:43Speaker 5: And Isaiah likely was also on.
- 1:27:46Speaker 6: If you want a guy off the edge and that
- 1:27:48Speaker 6: just is going to be a menace on third downs,
- 1:27:50Speaker 6: then that's Josiah Stewart.
- 1:27:52Speaker 8: But if you want to top the run, then that's
- 1:27:54Speaker 8: not for you.
- 1:27:55Speaker 6: But he's he's you know, Joshua Jay is now like
- 1:28:00Speaker 6: that type of player, maybe a little bit more explosive.
- 1:28:03Speaker 4: Andrews and Marlborough. What's up? Andrew?
- 1:28:07Speaker 10: Hi, So first time, longtime.
- 1:28:09Speaker 4: How are you good?
- 1:28:10Speaker 3: Great?
- 1:28:12Speaker 18: So I'm calling actually to plug a charity event that's
- 1:28:14Speaker 18: going on right now. A sports YouTuber called Tom Grossi
- 1:28:19Speaker 18: is live streaming as we speak. He started last Sunday
- 1:28:22Speaker 18: and he's trying to raise a million dollars for the
- 1:28:25Speaker 18: Fallen Patriots charity. It's a charity that sends kids to
- 1:28:30Speaker 18: college who had parents who died while serving in the military.
- 1:28:34Speaker 18: So I was hoping to get the word out and
- 1:28:38Speaker 18: kind of spread the news that that's going on right now.
- 1:28:40Speaker 4: Okay, that's on YouTube Fallen Patriots.
- 1:28:44Speaker 19: Yeah.
- 1:28:45Speaker 18: The guy's name is Tom Grosse. He was in h
- 1:28:48Speaker 18: He stopped by Julette like two years ago raising money
- 1:28:51Speaker 18: for Saint Jude's. So he's been doing a lot of
- 1:28:54Speaker 18: raising money for charity. I think I remember the event
- 1:28:57Speaker 18: is Falling Patriots.
- 1:28:58Speaker 4: Great, all right, thanks thanks for the shout up. Thanks Andrew.
- 1:29:03Speaker 4: When he said fall I thought he meant like ex
- 1:29:05Speaker 4: Patriots players.
- 1:29:07Speaker 5: Right, you know, but I thought he was just plugging
- 1:29:09Speaker 5: someone that's a good cost YouTube channel. What that's obviously
- 1:29:12Speaker 5: a good cost.
- 1:29:13Speaker 4: Uh, Patty's an agawam, Hey, Patty's going on?
- 1:29:18Speaker 19: Jen Hey, yo, I just had a quick question about
- 1:29:22Speaker 19: Dale and pol We saw how in college when he
- 1:29:26Speaker 19: was the third fiddle he could play, you know, he
- 1:29:29Speaker 19: put up good numbers. I mean, he actually looked like
- 1:29:31Speaker 19: a viable player. So my question is, let's say we
- 1:29:35Speaker 19: get and this is just one up scenarios. Let's say
- 1:29:37Speaker 19: we get Godwin and sorry for the noise, and we
- 1:29:43Speaker 19: drafted McMillan or somebody like David Higgens to be our
- 1:29:47Speaker 19: ex outside guy. Do you think we can kind of
- 1:29:50Speaker 19: selve his career or do you think there's Do you
- 1:29:52Speaker 19: think he's so in his head from this past year
- 1:29:54Speaker 19: that there's no selves against his career because we know
- 1:29:57Speaker 19: how guys don't produce good in the first year, they
- 1:29:59Speaker 19: generally produce it all.
- 1:30:02Speaker 4: Okay, I don't think so.
- 1:30:04Speaker 3: I mean I think if we just kind of went
- 1:30:05Speaker 3: over that, yeah, I think he's getting a fresh chance
- 1:30:07Speaker 3: a little bit with Josh coming back. But I mean
- 1:30:09Speaker 3: that could go one of two ways. I mean, it
- 1:30:11Speaker 3: could be Josh isn't really interested in him and he
- 1:30:13Speaker 3: can't pick up Josh, or it could.
- 1:30:15Speaker 4: How much of an indicator will be spring practices and
- 1:30:18Speaker 4: where guys are lined up, and how Josh is using
- 1:30:21Speaker 4: them even though they're in shorts and the like. Will
- 1:30:24Speaker 4: that give us any indication of the research that he's
- 1:30:27Speaker 4: done in the opinion that he has going in on
- 1:30:30Speaker 4: some of these guys.
- 1:30:31Speaker 3: Well, I mean, i'd wonder if Folk's going to be
- 1:30:33Speaker 3: healthy ready to go, at least specifically to him. But
- 1:30:35Speaker 3: of course we'll overanalyze all that stuff.
- 1:30:37Speaker 5: Yeah, and I also would like to see what kind
- 1:30:39Speaker 5: of moves they make. You know, in Patty's scenario, you
- 1:30:42Speaker 5: have Chris Godwin or you know, sort of a similar
- 1:30:45Speaker 5: veteran free agent in addition to you know, a fairly
- 1:30:48Speaker 5: significant draft pick wide receiver. So if you have those
- 1:30:54Speaker 5: two guys you know in the mix, say in May,
- 1:30:58Speaker 5: and you have Polk with them, I would say that's significant. Now,
- 1:31:04Speaker 5: if Polk is just out there and you know you
- 1:31:06Speaker 5: didn't add those two guys, I don't think that's it
- 1:31:08Speaker 5: as significant. It's like, well, Polk was out there, you start,
- 1:31:11Speaker 5: I think you start might have started the first game
- 1:31:13Speaker 5: of the year. You know, Like, what significance do we
- 1:31:17Speaker 5: take from that? Well, that's they don't have much. You know,
- 1:31:21Speaker 5: it's Douglas. It's a little bit of booty sometimes and
- 1:31:27Speaker 5: then you know you're a guy born when he's lined
- 1:31:30Speaker 5: up properly and Polk.
- 1:31:33Speaker 8: I think that's a big I am.
- 1:31:36Speaker 6: I'm not putting any eggs in the jail and pulk
- 1:31:38Speaker 6: basket like it's going to.
- 1:31:39Speaker 5: Have to show me something first.
- 1:31:41Speaker 6: I just think it's a big lead for him to
- 1:31:42Speaker 6: go from last year to all of a suddenly. You know,
- 1:31:45Speaker 6: I think if you had a five hundred yard you know,
- 1:31:48Speaker 6: season next year, that I would be like that.
- 1:31:52Speaker 5: That'd be great.
- 1:31:53Speaker 4: Yeah, great progress, right well, Jeremiah writes in he says,
- 1:31:56Speaker 4: I don't know if you watched Steve Smith's report report
- 1:31:59Speaker 4: card on Poke, but it seemed really insightful. He pointed
- 1:32:03Speaker 4: out a bunch of Poke struggles see stem from the
- 1:32:05Speaker 4: team situation and the coaching from Van Pelton Underwood. If
- 1:32:09Speaker 4: you haven't watched it, I highly recommend it and would
- 1:32:12Speaker 4: like to know your thoughts if Pok could succeed better
- 1:32:14Speaker 4: under better coaching or is it more of a skill issue.
- 1:32:18Speaker 5: I think it's both. I think you will succeed better
- 1:32:20Speaker 5: with Josh McDaniels, but I don't think that there's this
- 1:32:26Speaker 5: like reservoir of ability.
- 1:32:28Speaker 6: That that was my point about bringing up the five
- 1:32:30Speaker 6: hundred yard thing was because like.
- 1:32:32Speaker 8: What's the ceiling like?
- 1:32:33Speaker 6: Even if it does look better for Jalen Polk, I'm
- 1:32:36Speaker 6: not I'm not like gonna be fool to think that
- 1:32:39Speaker 6: he's gonna have a thousand yard season in year two,
- 1:32:41Speaker 6: Like it's still gonna be modest, I would think and
- 1:32:45Speaker 6: deduce his point originally about him, like a lot of
- 1:32:47Speaker 6: it was just like mental and like game instincts and
- 1:32:51Speaker 6: mental toughness, so that before we even get to the ability,
- 1:32:55Speaker 6: like that.
- 1:32:55Speaker 5: Your offensive system was the same for everybody.
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:32:58Speaker 5: Did Douglas look better than Polk?
- 1:33:01Speaker 2: Yes?
- 1:33:02Speaker 5: Did Booty look better than Polk?
- 1:33:03Speaker 2: Yes?
- 1:33:04Speaker 5: So like Booty and Polk, I mean I chose those
- 1:33:09Speaker 5: those guys because they both second year, sixth round picks.
- 1:33:13Speaker 5: So it's not like I'm comparing him to Randy Moss
- 1:33:15Speaker 5: in his prime, right, I'm comparing him to guys that
- 1:33:18Speaker 5: he was a second round pick. Right, theoretically he should
- 1:33:21Speaker 5: have more ability, yeap.
- 1:33:23Speaker 3: Yeah, and he didn't look like he did. It's just
- 1:33:25Speaker 3: so jarring. I mean that you guys can probably speak
- 1:33:27Speaker 3: to it. More than I can. But I've said before
- 1:33:29Speaker 3: like I've never seen a player just look productive in camp,
- 1:33:32Speaker 3: look like he got it. Looked like he was just
- 1:33:33Speaker 3: gonna be a part of things and be consistently around
- 1:33:35Speaker 3: the ball, maybe make some catches to going from that
- 1:33:38Speaker 3: to twelve catches and looking like he can't even run.
- 1:33:41Speaker 5: Like specifically, I would argue Taekwon Thornton look the same
- 1:33:46Speaker 5: in training camp, but then he got hurt. He broke
- 1:33:48Speaker 5: his collar bone in that Panthers preseason game, and I
- 1:33:51Speaker 5: don't think he was ever really the same his rookie year.
- 1:33:55Speaker 5: Then he kept you know, showing an inconsistencies and couldn't
- 1:33:58Speaker 5: stay healthy. I think his issues were different. But to
- 1:34:02Speaker 5: your point, Polk was a guy who was on the
- 1:34:04Speaker 5: practice field every day catching a ton of passes. Nothing
- 1:34:08Speaker 5: really appeared to happen, and all of a sudden he
- 1:34:12Speaker 5: wasn't the same guy when when the game started.
- 1:34:14Speaker 3: Well, I mean, if you think there's a little story
- 1:34:16Speaker 3: there with not getting his feet down, and you know,
- 1:34:18Speaker 3: I mean from that point in that in that game,
- 1:34:21Speaker 3: it's just that where it really totally unraveled because he
- 1:34:24Speaker 3: was involved in me I think was the second or
- 1:34:25Speaker 3: third game they target him a bunch, like it seemed like,
- 1:34:28Speaker 3: you know, we got to get this guy going, and
- 1:34:29Speaker 3: then it just after that moment, had some bad comments afterwards.
- 1:34:33Speaker 5: It just feels, first of all.
- 1:34:36Speaker 6: The production wasn't good the rules for the whole time,
- 1:34:39Speaker 6: but there were flashes of separation and stuff, and I
- 1:34:43Speaker 6: kept them saying to myself early on, like trying to
- 1:34:46Speaker 6: get but like when Drake.
- 1:34:47Speaker 5: Made there was one deep ball that Jakobe under throw,
- 1:34:50Speaker 5: it might have been that game might have been to Miami, you.
- 1:34:52Speaker 6: Know, and when they get Drake may and there, like
- 1:34:54Speaker 6: is he going to put the ball on him more?
- 1:34:56Speaker 6: And he made a nice move on that route against Miami,
- 1:35:00Speaker 6: not up the back of the end zone, and he
- 1:35:02Speaker 6: didn't get his second foot in bounds, and the just
- 1:35:04Speaker 6: completely unraveled for him from there. And I even if
- 1:35:08Speaker 6: you watched the route, like it's a nice little route
- 1:35:10Speaker 6: that he runs to get open and then he just
- 1:35:12Speaker 6: he just didn't get the foot.
- 1:35:13Speaker 5: And in terms of just having confidence that he can
- 1:35:17Speaker 5: sort of be, you know, resurrected, that's probably the biggest
- 1:35:22Speaker 5: thing that stands in the way for me is he
- 1:35:25Speaker 5: had that play happened and he completely went in the
- 1:35:27Speaker 5: tank like that. My biggest concern would be does he
- 1:35:30Speaker 5: have the mental toughness?
- 1:35:33Speaker 4: Audrey says, what's going on today?
- 1:35:35Speaker 2: Guys?
- 1:35:35Speaker 4: The show's so flat, very low energy. Are you all
- 1:35:39Speaker 4: tired of winter and shoveling? Paul looks tired and depressed.
- 1:35:42Speaker 4: You do look a little down today. What's going on?
- 1:35:45Speaker 5: I got things?
- 1:35:45Speaker 4: You got things going on? Yeah, off field stuff. No,
- 1:35:51Speaker 4: it's all too nice. It's all too serious. Where are
- 1:35:54Speaker 4: the questions for Fred about his vacation? And why isn't
- 1:35:57Speaker 4: Fred needling deuce about the semi disastrous show was last week? Wow?
- 1:36:01Speaker 4: Is that's true?
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: What happened?
- 1:36:02Speaker 5: When I was going you weren't here show Thursday?
- 1:36:07Speaker 4: What happened?
- 1:36:08Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:36:08Speaker 3: I actually we got some compliments, but just tough on me.
- 1:36:12Speaker 5: So I Tuesday show I thought was was really good,
- 1:36:15Speaker 5: but you know, as good as they can be with
- 1:36:17Speaker 5: as good as they can be without you, And we
- 1:36:20Speaker 5: had phone issues. Tuesday show was an absolute disaster back here.
- 1:36:25Speaker 3: Fair enough, but not my phone.
- 1:36:27Speaker 5: It wasn't your guys fault from a content perspective, the
- 1:36:30Speaker 5: board's fault.
- 1:36:33Speaker 4: Well, I don't like to I was hoping that you
- 1:36:34Speaker 4: guys would be able to you know, keep things going.
- 1:36:37Speaker 3: I don't know. You have to ask ad you to
- 1:36:38Speaker 3: expand upon her. That's the first I've heard of it.
- 1:36:41Speaker 5: So what happened on Thursday?
- 1:36:42Speaker 3: I thought we had we had matists, we talked to
- 1:36:44Speaker 3: I mean, we did talk a little Drake and Kendrick
- 1:36:47Speaker 3: Lamar about being a Drake fan. Yeah, but otherwise it
- 1:36:51Speaker 3: was I thought it was.
- 1:36:52Speaker 2: It was fun.
- 1:36:53Speaker 3: It's fun. Went by pretty quick. We'd read a lot
- 1:36:55Speaker 3: of emails, So thank you everybody the email. No problems
- 1:36:58Speaker 3: with the phones. I don't know.
- 1:37:00Speaker 5: Right back in, poor Fred is thinking I can never
- 1:37:03Speaker 5: take another bit.
- 1:37:04Speaker 4: I'm worried. You know, I need my time off sometimes,
- 1:37:09Speaker 4: tree Hugger and Oregon writes in one of my favorite
- 1:37:12Speaker 4: parts of Patriots Unfiltered is hearing Mike's many sonorous mms,
- 1:37:17Speaker 4: most often heard as he lends his support or affirmation
- 1:37:20Speaker 4: to a cogent point made by a fellow PU member.
- 1:37:23Speaker 4: They are subtle, but once you start listening for them,
- 1:37:26Speaker 4: they are everywhere, a low rumble that provides the sonic
- 1:37:29Speaker 4: foundation of Pew's exquisite auditory ambience. All Right, maybe Marine
- 1:37:39Speaker 4: Matt can work his editing magic to give us a
- 1:37:41Speaker 4: cutup of a string of these stentorian vibrations. I imagine
- 1:37:47Speaker 4: it might very well resemble that nineteen ninety three hit
- 1:37:49Speaker 4: song mm mmm mmm mm by the Canadian rock band
- 1:37:53Speaker 4: Crash Test Dummies. Perhaps Stews could use it as a
- 1:37:56Speaker 4: demo reel to showcase his vocal talents and Springboard is
- 1:38:00Speaker 4: musical recording career. One can a there was this boy?
- 1:38:05Speaker 2: Whoever?
- 1:38:06Speaker 3: That one?
- 1:38:07Speaker 9: It's gonna sound like a scene from Private Parts.
- 1:38:11Speaker 20: It's so hard geter around nineties music that you don't
- 1:38:17Speaker 20: know the song.
- 1:38:19Speaker 3: It's very very deep voice.
- 1:38:24Speaker 4: Okay, do you notice yourself doing that a lot?
- 1:38:27Speaker 3: I will now, I'm sure. So thanks for pointing out.
- 1:38:30Speaker 8: That's on your notes from Jerry that.
- 1:38:33Speaker 3: I know, just Jerry that one.
- 1:38:36Speaker 4: Brian's a Delaware what's up, Brian?
- 1:38:39Speaker 2: Hey?
- 1:38:39Speaker 17: How you doing?
- 1:38:40Speaker 4: Okay?
- 1:38:42Speaker 2: All right?
- 1:38:43Speaker 17: Yeah, we need a big change, man, we need to rebuild.
- 1:38:47Speaker 17: I was like kind of hurt, you know, saying we
- 1:38:49Speaker 17: need a good draft pick. You know, I was kind
- 1:38:51Speaker 17: of hurt when the Patriots passed off on Jay. Hurt
- 1:38:54Speaker 17: that time, you know, with the draft pick, and then
- 1:38:56Speaker 17: you had Smith there too, and you had you know, back,
- 1:38:59Speaker 17: you had Jones and all those guys like, you know,
- 1:39:02Speaker 17: they had Jones, they could have got smiffed. I'm like, oh,
- 1:39:04Speaker 17: on what are they doing? You know what I'm saying.
- 1:39:06Speaker 17: But you know, I got trust the process, you know,
- 1:39:10Speaker 17: with the draft pick of what you know Philichick was doing,
- 1:39:14Speaker 17: you know, trusting Bill, you know even you know with
- 1:39:17Speaker 17: the picks that they had. You know, it was you know, Jones.
- 1:39:20Speaker 17: He needed someone to throw to, you know. He you know,
- 1:39:24Speaker 17: I'm I'm a huge Alabama fan by the way, I
- 1:39:26Speaker 17: got from I'm from Alabama. Yeah, it hurts me, you know,
- 1:39:30Speaker 17: every every day. You know, they couldn't get hurt Like
- 1:39:34Speaker 17: he was sitting right there. I'm like, why did they
- 1:39:36Speaker 17: get them?
- 1:39:36Speaker 2: You know?
- 1:39:37Speaker 17: Yeah, but we need a rebuild. I think you need
- 1:39:40Speaker 17: a ribe receiver, you know first, same versus a receiver.
- 1:39:45Speaker 17: I mean Odell Beckham. You know, he's I don't know,
- 1:39:47Speaker 17: you know how his his history is on well, I
- 1:39:51Speaker 17: think he was hurt or something like that. He got
- 1:39:53Speaker 17: hurt of and you know, yeah, he's wild. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:39:57Speaker 17: I mean they need a veteran somebody on a veteran guy. Yeah,
- 1:40:01Speaker 17: they should, you know, take a chance on Odell.
- 1:40:03Speaker 4: And then you know, what do you think of Milroe?
- 1:40:10Speaker 5: Uh?
- 1:40:12Speaker 17: Great guy.
- 1:40:13Speaker 4: Great, great guy. Can't play though, right, Yeah, Phil was right?
- 1:40:20Speaker 4: All right, thanks for the call, Brian a.
- 1:40:25Speaker 2: Lot.
- 1:40:26Speaker 5: Does anybody know who Smith or Jones?
- 1:40:28Speaker 6: Assuming he was talking about Davonte Smith and Mac Jones,
- 1:40:31Speaker 6: Matt Jones. But Davanta Smith went ahead of Mac Jones
- 1:40:34Speaker 6: in that draft.
- 1:40:34Speaker 5: So but I thought he was saying like they they
- 1:40:38Speaker 5: passed on Hurts. That's why I got confused. And Smith
- 1:40:43Speaker 5: and Jones were there, Yeah, correct, So I got really confused.
- 1:40:48Speaker 5: But he was talking about Smith and Jones.
- 1:40:51Speaker 8: I think the order of He's got the order a
- 1:40:53Speaker 8: little bit messed up.
- 1:40:55Speaker 5: So I saw a big chart that had the college
- 1:40:57Speaker 5: of the Super Bowl winning.
- 1:40:59Speaker 3: Quarterback Michigan, Yes, represented.
- 1:41:05Speaker 5: And they list Hurts as Alabama. Yeah, not Oklahoma.
- 1:41:09Speaker 3: It's weird.
- 1:41:10Speaker 5: Yeah, I thought it was weird too.
- 1:41:13Speaker 8: I would say Alabama, but I would.
- 1:41:16Speaker 5: Say where he finished his career.
- 1:41:18Speaker 6: Where he graduated from his degree full seasons at Alabama.
- 1:41:22Speaker 8: Was acually went to Alabama.
- 1:41:24Speaker 5: No, I know that, but there's a lot of guys
- 1:41:26Speaker 5: that you know, like you wouldn't say Jaden Daniels, Arizona State.
- 1:41:30Speaker 5: He's finished his career at LSU, right, that's fair. He
- 1:41:33Speaker 5: played three years ago.
- 1:41:35Speaker 8: Yeah, that's fair.
- 1:41:36Speaker 4: I agree listing Alabama, you.
- 1:41:39Speaker 8: Can give him to Oklahoma.
- 1:41:40Speaker 5: I just think it was because it was Alabama, right, Okahoma. Yeah,
- 1:41:44Speaker 5: but it ain't Saban. It ain't the Saban machine.
- 1:41:47Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:41:47Speaker 5: But like you got to give Saban credit for another one.
- 1:41:50Speaker 4: To be accurate, you would kind of like Bill, you
- 1:41:52Speaker 4: would list both. I guess to Alabama slash Oklahoma. He
- 1:41:57Speaker 4: was he got. You can't do that. Then you'd list
- 1:41:59Speaker 4: where he Grabb situated from his last school.
- 1:42:01Speaker 5: I would go by where he finished. It was like
- 1:42:04Speaker 5: Baker Mayfield, you know, didn't he started like Oklahoma.
- 1:42:08Speaker 8: He was at Oklahoma.
- 1:42:09Speaker 5: I mean where did he start Oklahoma? No, I think
- 1:42:12Speaker 5: he started somewhere else. Okay, I could be I could
- 1:42:18Speaker 5: be right on that.
- 1:42:19Speaker 4: I thought he transferred Everett. I think he started at Everett.
- 1:42:23Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 1:42:24Speaker 5: He's not that good.
- 1:42:25Speaker 6: When Jalen hurts his name, I think I do think Alabama.
- 1:42:29Speaker 6: I think probably because he was more that his team
- 1:42:31Speaker 6: was more successful at Alabama, whereas he was probably better
- 1:42:36Speaker 6: at Oklahoma. But he was also you know, it was
- 1:42:38Speaker 6: his last year in college. But yeah, I when I
- 1:42:41Speaker 6: when someone says to me, where did Jalen.
- 1:42:42Speaker 5: Hurts, Texas tech baker Mayfield.
- 1:42:44Speaker 3: Started, do you think the makers of this chart went
- 1:42:47Speaker 3: through that much discussion? And thought?
- 1:42:50Speaker 5: I just thought it was odd. I think that I'm
- 1:42:54Speaker 5: with Fred. I think they made a mistake.
- 1:42:56Speaker 3: Johnny he went to Oklahoma. Oh oh yeah, that's right.
- 1:42:59Speaker 4: Jack in a abba. Regarding whether Fred is low energy
- 1:43:03Speaker 4: from shoveling snow, Fred is absolutely not low energy from
- 1:43:06Speaker 4: snuggling show shoveling snow. He's a low energy because he
- 1:43:11Speaker 4: uses a snowblower. If Fred's shovel snow the old fashioned
- 1:43:14Speaker 4: way with a snow shovel, and he wrote show shovel,
- 1:43:19Speaker 4: so I yeah.
- 1:43:21Speaker 3: If you shout his shovel, yeah.
- 1:43:24Speaker 4: Yeah, I read it right, whatever's on the prime, he
- 1:43:28Speaker 4: would be invigorated. I did both.
- 1:43:30Speaker 5: That was a tough one.
- 1:43:32Speaker 4: Well, the last one earlier.
- 1:43:33Speaker 5: Sunday was a tough one.
- 1:43:34Speaker 4: If you was shoveling, Oh yeah, that was that was
- 1:43:37Speaker 4: a mess.
- 1:43:38Speaker 5: Yeah, you didn't get as much down your way.
- 1:43:40Speaker 4: It started pouring rain.
- 1:43:41Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, but that was heavy with the snow blower.
- 1:43:46Speaker 2: It was heavy.
- 1:43:47Speaker 3: God bless my neighbor. He came and just plowed our
- 1:43:49Speaker 3: driveway for us. I gave him a thank you shout out.
- 1:43:53Speaker 3: He should have baked him brownies or something.
- 1:43:55Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:43:56Speaker 3: Saved my back because I just did the walkway and
- 1:43:58Speaker 3: I was like every scoop was like.
- 1:44:01Speaker 4: But the one before that I did was able to
- 1:44:03Speaker 4: get the snowblower out and I haven't used it in
- 1:44:06Speaker 4: a couple of years.
- 1:44:08Speaker 5: I've used it the last two storms.
- 1:44:09Speaker 3: Yeah, need it this year.
- 1:44:11Speaker 5: Definitely needed its Sunday. Yeah, that would have been a
- 1:44:13Speaker 5: disaster if I was that's strictly shoveling. And I was
- 1:44:17Speaker 5: by myself too because the boys were gone, but TJ
- 1:44:20Speaker 5: was working Will's at school.
- 1:44:23Speaker 4: Uh not that they would have helped you if they were.
- 1:44:25Speaker 5: They all believe me they would have helped me that day.
- 1:44:27Speaker 4: Okay, get your correct chat in LA. Question for the
- 1:44:32Speaker 4: group regarding the draft, is there any reason this year
- 1:44:35Speaker 4: to trade up? I'm thinking about Abdul Carter in particular.
- 1:44:39Speaker 4: I know we need a lot, but if we're willing
- 1:44:41Speaker 4: to spend money to fill other positions, is there any
- 1:44:44Speaker 4: logic to it?
- 1:44:46Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm looking at the ball.
- 1:44:48Speaker 4: No, you just have to give up stuff and you
- 1:44:51Speaker 4: know a lot.
- 1:44:51Speaker 6: Yeah, I just when it comes to these trade scenarios,
- 1:44:55Speaker 6: I keep coming back to the same thing, like why
- 1:44:58Speaker 6: is the other team doing it? Like I can come
- 1:45:00Speaker 6: up with a million arguments for the Patriots wanting to
- 1:45:03Speaker 6: trade up, trade down, whatever, but I don't. I just
- 1:45:07Speaker 6: don't think that this is the draft where that movement happens,
- 1:45:10Speaker 6: because usually the movement happens for quarterbacks, right, So, like
- 1:45:13Speaker 6: you know, teams that don't need quarterbacks move back, and
- 1:45:16Speaker 6: the teams that do need quarterbacks move up. But in
- 1:45:18Speaker 6: this draft, if you're not Google Gaga over the quarterbacks,
- 1:45:22Speaker 6: then what's the why are we creating all this movement for?
- 1:45:25Speaker 6: So like if you're the Titans and you're not taking
- 1:45:28Speaker 6: the quarterbacks, you ruled the quarterbacks out, Like why are
- 1:45:31Speaker 6: you giving abdul Carter to the Patriots and then going
- 1:45:35Speaker 6: back to four and then getting nobody right?
- 1:45:38Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:45:39Speaker 4: Like?
- 1:45:39Speaker 6: So like that that's the part that I guess. You know,
- 1:45:42Speaker 6: everybody has a price, Like if you came at them
- 1:45:44Speaker 6: and you gave them three first round picks, then like
- 1:45:46Speaker 6: maybe they would do it, But why would the Patriots
- 1:45:48Speaker 6: do that?
- 1:45:49Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:45:49Speaker 5: So it's hard to argue with that.
- 1:45:51Speaker 4: Yep, uh Russell and Florida. Do you think the Patriots
- 1:45:54Speaker 4: could go mostly defense in the draft and look to
- 1:45:59Speaker 4: free agency and aids for offense. I haven't dug into
- 1:46:02Speaker 4: the draft or free agency yet, but I'm assuming neither
- 1:46:05Speaker 4: is loaded with talent off season. Question, excuse me, how
- 1:46:09Speaker 4: to meatballs up? What is one player preferably a star
- 1:46:13Speaker 4: or big name guy that was brought to the team
- 1:46:15Speaker 4: in the Brady era that you were excited about but
- 1:46:19Speaker 4: didn't work out at all, and one player that you
- 1:46:21Speaker 4: always thought would be a Patriot at some point. Mine
- 1:46:25Speaker 4: is Chad Johnson and JJ Watt.
- 1:46:27Speaker 5: Guys that you were excited about that didn't work out.
- 1:46:30Speaker 3: Robert Gallery, I kind of say, a Dahlius Thomas. I
- 1:46:33Speaker 3: don't think he was a total disaster, but I was
- 1:46:36Speaker 3: way more excited than it.
- 1:46:37Speaker 4: Actually, examples of John lynch.
- 1:46:42Speaker 5: Daylyss Thomas.
- 1:46:44Speaker 4: But you're.
- 1:46:47Speaker 5: Chad, Chad Johnson would be would I mean, I kind
- 1:46:49Speaker 5: of excited. He was already done, but there was excitement.
- 1:46:52Speaker 5: Cam Newton, but you know, like they Cam.
- 1:46:55Speaker 20: Newton, Handsworth, Yeah, DoD Stalwart was and then all of
- 1:47:02Speaker 20: a sudden they go out and get Randy Moss after that,
- 1:47:05Speaker 20: and you're like.
- 1:47:06Speaker 8: Oh right, I thought I thought Star Wars was the guy.
- 1:47:09Speaker 3: The thing with Antonio Brown was like you got a
- 1:47:12Speaker 3: brief glimpse of how good it could have been for
- 1:47:13Speaker 3: just a second.
- 1:47:14Speaker 6: When they won that game in Miami with Antonio Brown,
- 1:47:17Speaker 6: I was like, they're gonna win the Super Bowl.
- 1:47:19Speaker 8: But that was like they were they looked Untoggie Wayne.
- 1:47:24Speaker 5: So I don't those kinds of moves, you know, the
- 1:47:27Speaker 5: Tory Holts and Reggie Wayne's, the Joey Galloway wires, they were. Yeah,
- 1:47:30Speaker 5: they were like sort of taking a shot and you
- 1:47:32Speaker 5: know later in their careers. But there was some guys
- 1:47:36Speaker 5: that you know, like a daylyss Thomas is probably the
- 1:47:38Speaker 5: best example, Like this is a guy that's supposed to
- 1:47:41Speaker 5: be in his prime that was going to be this
- 1:47:43Speaker 5: different guy and he wasn't.
- 1:47:46Speaker 3: He was he was playing.
- 1:47:48Speaker 5: He was good in O seven and then he really
- 1:47:51Speaker 5: tailed off. I remember when he had the pick six
- 1:47:54Speaker 5: against the Chargers. Yeah, I don't know, everybody was just
- 1:47:58Speaker 5: going crazy and then he really never did much.
- 1:48:02Speaker 3: That's pretty good in the Super Bowl if I remember,
- 1:48:04Speaker 3: like like I don't know stats wise.
- 1:48:06Speaker 5: But Fitzgerald would be the guy that they never.
- 1:48:08Speaker 4: What about Julius Peppers. Remember we had Vi, We have
- 1:48:12Speaker 4: Vic Carucci on the show Live and studio saying they're
- 1:48:16Speaker 4: they're gonna I know from a good source that Julius
- 1:48:19Speaker 4: Peppers is going to be a Patriot. Yeah. I was
- 1:48:22Speaker 4: going to say, Larry Fitzgerald, he's still at the Hurts Counter.
- 1:48:26Speaker 6: I thought for sure that, like he's in the last leg,
- 1:48:30Speaker 6: Larry Fitzgerald and Bill loves them, come play with Brady,
- 1:48:33Speaker 6: maybe win a ring.
- 1:48:35Speaker 8: You cap off the career such a perfect.
- 1:48:37Speaker 5: Like Brady receive and then he made this, you know,
- 1:48:40Speaker 5: the transition later in his career to the slot.
- 1:48:43Speaker 8: Yeah. I thought that.
- 1:48:44Speaker 6: I thought that Larry Fitzgerald would finally grow sick of
- 1:48:47Speaker 6: losing in Arizona and come to the Patriots.
- 1:48:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:48:52Speaker 4: That's a good question though.
- 1:48:53Speaker 5: But there were a lot of guys that I had,
- 1:48:55Speaker 5: you know, like there was a couple of tight ends
- 1:48:57Speaker 5: in there that I was excited about. I mean, John
- 1:49:00Speaker 5: Smith would be very recent one, but like like Dwayne Allen,
- 1:49:03Speaker 5: I think they traded for he never really panned out
- 1:49:06Speaker 5: to do anything.
- 1:49:07Speaker 8: Yeah, Scott Chandler, Oh yeah, the four.
- 1:49:10Speaker 5: Tight end thing. Everybody was over right, you know, I
- 1:49:13Speaker 5: forgot about him, never did anything.
- 1:49:16Speaker 8: Marty Bennett was good. That was a good signing.
- 1:49:19Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a good signing.
- 1:49:21Speaker 5: Yeah, he's just to ask him.
- 1:49:24Speaker 8: Michael Bennett.
- 1:49:25Speaker 4: No, martellis Martell's bene.
- 1:49:27Speaker 5: Just ask him. I don't think that.
- 1:49:28Speaker 8: Don't do they do? They win twenty eight to three?
- 1:49:30Speaker 4: They did? He danced with the cheerleaders after the AFC championed.
- 1:49:34Speaker 6: I think I think he was not the I do
- 1:49:39Speaker 6: Speiak to that team twenty sixteen.
- 1:49:42Speaker 5: He'll tell you.
- 1:49:45Speaker 4: A good question, though, Ed Wright saying, I assume Carter
- 1:49:47Speaker 4: and Hunter are gone.
- 1:49:48Speaker 5: Michael Bennett would be an example of No. I'm saying, guy,
- 1:49:52Speaker 5: you were excited about it? Did nothing.
- 1:49:54Speaker 8: I wasn't excited about that one.
- 1:49:56Speaker 5: Michael Bennett was a beast of a.
- 1:49:58Speaker 8: Player, really good for the Seahawks.
- 1:50:01Speaker 4: I assume Carter and Hunter are gone by the time
- 1:50:03Speaker 4: we pick it four. If we are not sold on
- 1:50:05Speaker 4: any of the tackles at four, we are not sold
- 1:50:09Speaker 4: on Graham at four. Why don't we call the Chargers
- 1:50:11Speaker 4: to see how much they want for Rashaan Slater. Joe
- 1:50:14Speaker 4: Walt wasn't drafted to play right tackle, and Slater will
- 1:50:17Speaker 4: need paying after this year. We have the cap space
- 1:50:20Speaker 4: to pay him, and he's young and better than what
- 1:50:23Speaker 4: is available in the draft.
- 1:50:25Speaker 6: So I think it's funny that the whole thing with
- 1:50:28Speaker 6: Will Campbell is though we can't draft him because he
- 1:50:30Speaker 6: has short arms, so we're gonna go draft the poster
- 1:50:33Speaker 6: child of short arm or a trade for the poster
- 1:50:36Speaker 6: child of short arm tackles.
- 1:50:37Speaker 8: I think all these trades.
- 1:50:38Speaker 6: Snarios are all well and good. I would probably do
- 1:50:41Speaker 6: a handful of them, but I mean, I just don't
- 1:50:44Speaker 6: find them to be too realistic.
- 1:50:47Speaker 4: I guess. Dion Sanders was on the Rich Eisen Show
- 1:50:51Speaker 4: sam from Saint Catherine's writes in and he says on
- 1:50:54Speaker 4: the show he said that when it comes to Hunter,
- 1:50:58Speaker 4: he thinks it'll be easier for Travis to do what
- 1:51:01Speaker 4: he does in the NFL with lighter practices compared to college,
- 1:51:04Speaker 4: more breaks and huddles during the game, and more rules,
- 1:51:07Speaker 4: the gaining physicality on receivers and corners.
- 1:51:11Speaker 5: I don't have.
- 1:51:12Speaker 6: Much doubt about like endurance with him. It's the focus,
- 1:51:17Speaker 6: like it's like how much time.
- 1:51:19Speaker 5: Ability, Like he's playing against the best in the world
- 1:51:23Speaker 5: on both sides. And it's not about stamina. No, it's
- 1:51:27Speaker 5: not about It's not just about stamina. It's about a
- 1:51:30Speaker 5: lot of stuff.
- 1:51:32Speaker 6: I'm more worried about during the week, Like, yeah, there's
- 1:51:34Speaker 6: a lot of prep. How do you do mental right,
- 1:51:37Speaker 6: Like how are you diving up his time during the
- 1:51:40Speaker 6: week to study, Like if you're gonna have him play
- 1:51:43Speaker 6: corner at a high clip and they're going against Miami
- 1:51:47Speaker 6: and he's got Tyreek Hill that week, like he's got
- 1:51:50Speaker 6: to be in the film room watching Tyreek Hill and
- 1:51:53Speaker 6: studying him and studying his patterns and his releases and
- 1:51:56Speaker 6: his movements and all that kind of stuff. And then
- 1:51:59Speaker 6: he also has to go worry about like whatever the
- 1:52:02Speaker 6: game plan is on offense and studying you know, that
- 1:52:05Speaker 6: side of the ball and worrying about that. Like it
- 1:52:07Speaker 6: just that to me is like how do you put
- 1:52:09Speaker 6: pack all of that into a work week and then
- 1:52:12Speaker 6: come out on Sunday and put your best put forward?
- 1:52:15Speaker 6: Not so much about the physical attributes of it.
- 1:52:18Speaker 4: Maybe the oom's from me because I do that a
- 1:52:21Speaker 4: lot too. I wonder, you know, because when someone's talking
- 1:52:25Speaker 4: like Doucer myself or off camera, it could be me
- 1:52:28Speaker 4: doing it.
- 1:52:29Speaker 3: Maybe I don't know, maybe I'm throwing my voice. Yeah,
- 1:52:31Speaker 3: can you do it?
- 1:52:31Speaker 4: Yeah, it could be. Audrey has a follow up on
- 1:52:35Speaker 4: her low energy email.
- 1:52:36Speaker 3: All right, let's hear.
- 1:52:38Speaker 4: Just listen to the start of last Tuesday, Fred dou
- 1:52:41Speaker 4: sounds shaky hosting right off the bat. Apologies immediately that
- 1:52:44Speaker 4: it's him very nervous ad reads no smoothness or confidence.
- 1:52:48Speaker 4: It's like proclaiming this will probably be bad. Sorry fans. Wow,
- 1:52:53Speaker 4: given the audio and phone problems weren't Mike's fault, but
- 1:52:57Speaker 4: he struggled with any transitions to keep it going. I'm
- 1:53:00Speaker 4: surprised he hasn't settled into this by now. I think
- 1:53:03Speaker 4: he's trying too hard, trying to be like you, needs
- 1:53:06Speaker 4: to find his own groove. I look forward to the
- 1:53:08Speaker 4: day it doesn't sound awkward. Wow, all right, I think
- 1:53:12Speaker 4: that's just awkward Mike. That's his thing.
- 1:53:15Speaker 3: I'll try to do better.
- 1:53:17Speaker 4: Yeah, he's he's the he's the father who walks in
- 1:53:21Speaker 4: on his son, you know, in the bathroom, like you know,
- 1:53:25Speaker 4: it's awkward. It's awkward.
- 1:53:27Speaker 3: Hello, excuse me, bring a little energy to the show.
- 1:53:35Speaker 4: You know what was yeah, hair jel Okay, Wow, you
- 1:53:43Speaker 4: guys really are.
- 1:53:44Speaker 8: What the hell is wrong with transition?
- 1:53:46Speaker 4: What is wrong with you?
- 1:53:48Speaker 2: What?
- 1:53:48Speaker 3: Audrey just kicked out my three legged stool of self confidence?
- 1:53:51Speaker 3: So I'm you know, trying to.
- 1:53:54Speaker 4: You know what, maybe maybe Eldred can bring some energy
- 1:53:57Speaker 4: to the show. What's up? Aldred? There we go you
- 1:54:01Speaker 4: just because the big y'all pile up on ninety five?
- 1:54:05Speaker 4: What's up?
- 1:54:06Speaker 15: Uh?
- 1:54:06Speaker 10: Coach on highway for it? Hey, hey, Mike, you were fine, man,
- 1:54:11Speaker 10: don't worry about that.
- 1:54:12Speaker 3: Man, fine.
- 1:54:13Speaker 8: I listened to the podcast perfectly, you know what I mean.
- 1:54:18Speaker 3: Appreciate you.
- 1:54:18Speaker 10: So hey, you great, Doug. Don't worry about that. You
- 1:54:23Speaker 10: don't know what you did.
- 1:54:24Speaker 17: Butt's inspike the kool aid. But uh, I.
- 1:54:28Speaker 10: Gotta trade scenario. And I know it might sound kind
- 1:54:31Speaker 10: of funny, but I ain't got no plan for Pope.
- 1:54:36Speaker 10: I'll trade Pope ad Mitchell. They didn't use it that
- 1:54:38Speaker 10: much in uh Inneapolis, but he did have more yards,
- 1:54:41Speaker 10: more touchdown and that's your outside receiver. But I let
- 1:54:45Speaker 10: it go at that, and I'll hear y'all on the radio.
- 1:54:48Speaker 4: Okay, you guys all right, Thanks Eldred, just what we needed.
- 1:54:52Speaker 3: Thanks Eldrick.
- 1:54:53Speaker 4: Yeah, you were fine, perfectly fine, you're fine.
- 1:54:55Speaker 5: Fine to the fine job. Fine sale, that's great.
- 1:54:59Speaker 3: Grand Yeah. I like ad Mitchell.
- 1:55:02Speaker 4: That's it.
- 1:55:04Speaker 8: That's not great enough.
- 1:55:05Speaker 5: No, he didn't do much.
- 1:55:06Speaker 8: I look wrong on ad actual look close, he didn't.
- 1:55:09Speaker 5: He didn't do the five to twenty five thing, right,
- 1:55:11Speaker 5: I can.
- 1:55:12Speaker 8: Not even close.
- 1:55:12Speaker 5: What is it five?
- 1:55:13Speaker 3: Who got the five twenty five?
- 1:55:14Speaker 8: It's yeah, like fifty, I think five.
- 1:55:18Speaker 3: I listen to the whole saying, what's five hundred receivers
- 1:55:21Speaker 3: that got it last year?
- 1:55:22Speaker 4: Pretty much?
- 1:55:23Speaker 6: Actually, it's actually not as many as you would think
- 1:55:26Speaker 6: outside of the first round, Like obviously all of the
- 1:55:30Speaker 6: the first round guys did. Conky McConkie and uh Kean
- 1:55:35Speaker 6: Coleman I think just made it.
- 1:55:37Speaker 8: He did, and then Jalen McMillan might.
- 1:55:40Speaker 5: Have worthy or yeah, first round okay, that's right, yeah,
- 1:55:44Speaker 5: thirty two.
- 1:55:45Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:55:45Speaker 6: I was looking at this yesterday though, because like I
- 1:55:48Speaker 6: actually do think this draft and over up against it.
- 1:55:50Speaker 6: But this draft I do think is decent Day two
- 1:55:53Speaker 6: wide receivers, Like I think there are some Day two
- 1:55:55Speaker 6: wide receivers. I wrote about it today, but I thought
- 1:55:59Speaker 6: it was the hit rate was higher last year than
- 1:56:04Speaker 6: it I ended up being when I went back and
- 1:56:06Speaker 6: looked at it, like McConkie is obviously like the golden
- 1:56:10Speaker 6: goose there, but outside of him, it wasn't.
- 1:56:13Speaker 8: It wasn't like a ton of hits instantly, but there's
- 1:56:18Speaker 8: always one. Mconkie was the point I was trying.
- 1:56:20Speaker 5: To find him. Yeah, just ask Fred.
- 1:56:24Speaker 4: Curtis and Saint Louis will finish up with this email.
- 1:56:27Speaker 4: Three questions, Paul, further educate me please. I understand how
- 1:56:30Speaker 4: free agency works, but can you tell me when teams
- 1:56:32Speaker 4: are allowed to sign or extend their own players and
- 1:56:35Speaker 4: free agents? And when can other teams like the Patriots
- 1:56:39Speaker 4: make calls to other teams about potential trade candidates.
- 1:56:42Speaker 5: You can do the former anytime if you want to
- 1:56:45Speaker 5: extend a guy right now, like the Patriots extended Jeremiah
- 1:56:48Speaker 5: Farms yep, like last week. He was going to be
- 1:56:51Speaker 5: an exclusive rights free agent and I think they gave
- 1:56:54Speaker 5: him two year deal.
- 1:56:55Speaker 8: Mike correct.
- 1:56:56Speaker 5: Yeah, So you can extend a guy that's on you
- 1:57:00Speaker 5: team because he doesn't become an official free agent until
- 1:57:03Speaker 5: the start of the league year, so he's still, you know,
- 1:57:07Speaker 5: your property, so to speak, to negotiate with. I think
- 1:57:10Speaker 5: the tampering period.
- 1:57:11Speaker 6: Is what would you say, March the tampering period, and
- 1:57:15Speaker 6: then the official league year is the.
- 1:57:16Speaker 5: Twelfth, so that's officially when teams are allowed to have
- 1:57:19Speaker 5: these conversations. Now there is clearly going to be a
- 1:57:24Speaker 5: lot of that going on at the combine. But these
- 1:57:26Speaker 5: teams that put out the flyers, you know, Cooper Cup.
- 1:57:29Speaker 4: We're mean, we're open for business.
- 1:57:31Speaker 5: They're they're calling you can they can call other teams,
- 1:57:34Speaker 5: you can. You know, the Patriots can call teams and
- 1:57:37Speaker 5: ask about the availability of T. Higgins in the trade
- 1:57:40Speaker 5: if they want to. That's not tampering, right, you can
- 1:57:43Speaker 5: call And.
- 1:57:44Speaker 4: So I just can't go to the player directly, right.
- 1:57:46Speaker 5: No, no, yeah, like not without the permission of the team, right,
- 1:57:49Speaker 5: you know, And but you can call team. You know,
- 1:57:53Speaker 5: gms can call gms and try to swing deals anytime
- 1:57:56Speaker 5: to consummate the trade until the start of the league year.
- 1:57:59Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:58:00Speaker 4: I have a thought on the ball placement when it
- 1:58:02Speaker 4: comes to first downs. I think think of an invisible
- 1:58:05Speaker 4: dog fence. What if there's a chip in the ball
- 1:58:07Speaker 4: and they had two sensors at each end, and then
- 1:58:09Speaker 4: they add sensors lasers on each of the first down markers.
- 1:58:13Speaker 4: If at any time the ball passes the markers before
- 1:58:15Speaker 4: the player is called dead, well that's the kind of
- 1:58:17Speaker 4: working on that. That's the idea. And finally, if there's time,
- 1:58:22Speaker 4: a fun thing would you rather fun? Would you rather?
- 1:58:26Speaker 4: For Evan, would you rather the Patriots make it to
- 1:58:29Speaker 4: the super Bowl during May's rookie contract or get to
- 1:58:32Speaker 4: sit in the Patriots war room and take in all
- 1:58:35Speaker 4: the magic during the next three drafts?
- 1:58:38Speaker 2: Good?
- 1:58:38Speaker 5: Would you rather?
- 1:58:39Speaker 8: That's tough.
- 1:58:41Speaker 6: I'm gonna appease the masses in say super Bowl in
- 1:58:45Speaker 6: his rookie contracts, so all of you can enjoy that together.
- 1:58:49Speaker 6: But in my heart of hearts, the war room does
- 1:58:51Speaker 6: sound pretty tempting.
- 1:58:52Speaker 5: But you would rather be in the war room? Yes,
- 1:58:56Speaker 5: for a potentially terrible draft. You have no way of
- 1:58:58Speaker 5: knowing then super Bowl.
- 1:59:01Speaker 8: That's why I said I would do.
- 1:59:02Speaker 5: I know, but you but you like, you're sort of
- 1:59:04Speaker 5: making a concession for us.
- 1:59:05Speaker 4: So what if you in the war room and you
- 1:59:07Speaker 4: can't say anything?
- 1:59:08Speaker 6: Well, I would think that would be the case. But
- 1:59:10Speaker 6: a fly on the wall, like I would love to
- 1:59:12Speaker 6: be a fly on the wall just for some of
- 1:59:14Speaker 6: the meetings.
- 1:59:15Speaker 3: That's why I think it would be almost more interesting,
- 1:59:16Speaker 3: because I think the draft meeting, the draft thing is
- 1:59:18Speaker 3: kind of like, all right, so Joe blow, Joe blow, Yeah, Joe,
- 1:59:21Speaker 3: we'll go Joel Joebelo. Yeah, all right, you get him,
- 1:59:24Speaker 3: you know, like.
- 1:59:24Speaker 4: He wants to be in the war room so that
- 1:59:26Speaker 4: when he has his debase with Barth and be like
- 1:59:27Speaker 4: you're wrong, you're.
- 1:59:29Speaker 8: Those are my favorite.
- 1:59:30Speaker 5: I know we've had this before.
- 1:59:32Speaker 4: Trump.
- 1:59:32Speaker 5: I really don't understand why you don't pursue a career
- 1:59:35Speaker 5: in it. I don't, and I'm being dead serious, like
- 1:59:37Speaker 5: that's what that's what it. I didn't say you had
- 1:59:40Speaker 5: the talent to do it, don't. I don't take it
- 1:59:42Speaker 5: as a compliment. I'm saying, that's clearly what you want
- 1:59:47Speaker 5: to do. Like, I don't really have a lot of
- 1:59:49Speaker 5: interest in being a fly on the wall in that room,
- 1:59:51Speaker 5: Like would it be you know interesting that oh yeah,
- 1:59:54Speaker 5: they were they want to do so instead of azaar yeah,
- 1:59:57Speaker 5: and then ten minutes later, I'd forget all about it,
- 1:59:59Speaker 5: the like he would be like that's his super Bowl.
- 2:00:03Speaker 4: Oh yeah.
- 2:00:03Speaker 6: I think it's different, Like I obviously it's obviously for
- 2:00:07Speaker 6: some of that is to like know ahead of time
- 2:00:09Speaker 6: who they're but I also just want to hear how
- 2:00:11Speaker 6: they talk about the players, like because I think that
- 2:00:14Speaker 6: the conversations they have are closer to the conversations we have.
- 2:00:17Speaker 5: And I don't think there's any question people realize.
- 2:00:20Speaker 6: So I just want to see, like how far off
- 2:00:22Speaker 6: am I when I, like Barth and I are doing
- 2:00:25Speaker 6: our thing.
- 2:00:26Speaker 8: On Cash twenty two. Like I'm not saying that my
- 2:00:28Speaker 8: knowledge is.
- 2:00:28Speaker 6: At their level, but like how far off are we
- 2:00:31Speaker 6: that you know we're Are we looking at the right things?
- 2:00:33Speaker 6: Are we having the right conversations that that sort of yesterday?
- 2:00:38Speaker 5: Congratulated him, he's going.
- 2:00:39Speaker 4: He's going to that's great on his own time. Yeah no, no, no,
- 2:00:44Speaker 4: I don't know. He's got perdem So they have like
- 2:00:49Speaker 4: what's his role? Are you going to do a show
- 2:00:50Speaker 4: down there or what are they doing?
- 2:00:52Speaker 6: They're going to have him go around and then he'll
- 2:00:54Speaker 6: call into the shows back home.
- 2:00:56Speaker 4: You know, see the influence we have, they wouldn't done it.
- 2:01:00Speaker 4: We put pressure on he should thank us.
- 2:01:03Speaker 8: I don't want to. I don't want to drop.
- 2:01:05Speaker 6: But there were certain people at the station I believe
- 2:01:07Speaker 6: that also put some pressure on them that are high ranking.
- 2:01:10Speaker 8: So it's all.
- 2:01:12Speaker 4: Angles, okay, but it started here.
