- 0:08WIBA Madison in the morning and ask the experts. Driving around the area yesterday
- 0:15noticed some leaves changing color, which means and I looked at the calendar two
- 0:19and so it's something about autumn or fall. I don't know all the details,
- 0:23but somebody who does know all about this time of year, and more
- 0:26importantly, not only just how great everything looks and how excited everybody is for
- 0:30the cooler temperatures. How to take care of your big investment. No one
- 0:34is your home. Our good friend Andrew Larson from Larsen Home Services joins us
- 0:38this morning. Andrew, are you doing today? What's happening? You know,
- 0:43it's that weird. It was weird. It is the wrong end of
- 0:46the season for us to be getting rained. This was supposed to be coming
- 0:49earlier in the year. But yeah, exactly. And as we talked with
- 0:55Andrew this morning, a couple of things keep in mind, of course,
- 0:57the website Larson Home Services dot com. That's l A R S O N
- 1:02Home Services dot Com. Telephone number six O eight five three five forty three
- 1:07forty three. That's five three five four three four three for Larson Home Services.
- 1:11And Andrew. One of the great things about chatting with you each week.
- 1:15Is you've been doing doing this type of work for a very very very
- 1:19very very long time. And you're a very young man, but you've been
- 1:26doing that, I think as if I remember correct, I mean, you've
- 1:30been working for doing these type of jobs. So this is like there's been
- 1:34your career for for for doc, yeah, a couple of decades. So
- 1:38I've been involved in gutters gutters college who started in college college job installing uh,
- 1:49installing gutters, and and I really really enjoyed it. And that's kind
- 1:52of when I learned that I loved the construction industry and the home improvement industry.
- 1:57And I've done many jobs, you know, siding, roofing, the
- 2:00gutters. Then I finally went into sales and management and started my own company.
- 2:06So I've been around in one shape. I mean, I mean,
- 2:09honestly, I was building a house with my dad when I was fifteen.
- 2:15So I've been around this stuff pretty much my whole life. And one thing
- 2:20I know is this time of year now, granted it's not even it's not
- 2:23octor yet, right, that's pretty bad. When I look at it's like
- 2:29it's all kind of blending together right now. Still September, but we know
- 2:34it comes fast and and knock on wood. Hopefully we have an absolutely beautiful
- 2:38mild fall where we can enjoy the leaves turning color, and most recent years
- 2:44we have it's we've had some really nice temperatures all the way up until December
- 2:47into December, and hopefully we do again. But there are some things that
- 2:52you do need to do before it gets cold. Yes, oh, I
- 2:59was good. I was going to ask you about that stuff. And we
- 3:01talked then about kind of that home home maintenance stuff and getting things prepared for
- 3:06the cold, whether it's a you know, a mild spring or a mild
- 3:08winter and extreme winter and who knows what's going to happen Exces said Spram and
- 3:14fall this fall, as we move through it, there's a lot of things
- 3:17that regardless of what Mother nature is bringing, you know, being prepared and
- 3:23taking some some simple steps can really go along way, can't they They can?
- 3:28So, you know, starting with you know, if you want to
- 3:30look at the whole performance of the inside of your home, sealing any air
- 3:35leaks. I know there's a lot of people that will go go around,
- 3:38depending on the conditioning of your windows, go around with here with weather stripping,
- 3:44putting the plastic over the windows. I mean I used to do that
- 3:46in my house. It actually it actually works, can actually help a lot.
- 3:53Getting your furnace inspected, you know, building a house, I got
- 3:59to be real good, good buddies with the HVAC guys. And you know,
- 4:03you know when do people all for their furnace or air conditioner when it's
- 4:09not working right, when it's not working, when it's really cold out,
- 4:13Oh my gosh, it's really cold. Oh no, the furnace isn't working.
- 4:15Are oh wow, it's really hot and the air conditioning is not working.
- 4:19And there's that you get charged more for that. But if you called
- 4:26her in an off time and have them quote inspected, it's just a general
- 4:29inspection charge in any maintenance fees that might might happen. But I would always
- 4:32recommend getting that inspected and maintained before it actually happens on the outside of the
- 4:40house. Two things that we do every single day, they're at the top
- 4:45of the fall maintenance checklist are check your gutters. Make sure they are clean.
- 4:50Because I'm telling you I don't. I can't tell you how many times
- 4:54we talk to people in the spring. They didn't clean their gutters out before
- 4:58winter, so they go into winter with with gutters that are full of junk.
- 5:02The water gets in there, it freezes. Now they've got a tray
- 5:06of clogged gutters. And then in the spring when everything thaws and we have
- 5:11that first rain, the ground still frozen. Path of least resistance is someone's
- 5:15basement foundation, and now we've got water in the basement, all because we
- 5:19didn't do some some fall maintenance. So you know, if you know you're
- 5:25gonna have to clean your gutters and you just don't want to do it anymore,
- 5:28give us a call, get a free estimate. We'll come out and
- 5:30expect the gutters. Lets you know exactly what it would cost to have not
- 5:34only new gutters, but piece of minds that you never have to worry about
- 5:38it again. Gutter shutter is. It's pretty amazing to Andrew, and I
- 5:42know you've shared some. We talked about it on the show, and then
- 5:45you did share on your Facebook page for large storm services. You shared not
- 5:48only a picture of yourself hanging hanging from we have no want it. Oh
- 5:57they are there's a challenge. I saw. I saw three of your guys
- 5:59as well on something. Yes, people are people challenging you to a chin
- 6:02up contest. Well so so the one video we hung three guys, one
- 6:10guy in the middle of the young bluck we call him. That's Shane aka
- 6:14the Content Kid. He does videography for US Photography, Drone Pilotry. It's
- 6:20any of the cool videos you see on social media, he makes them.
- 6:25And then we took two of our great production installers, put the tool belts
- 6:28on. Wait everybody in it came in at like six hundred and ten pounds
- 6:32and we hung them from the gutter. The amount of hate that we've gotten
- 6:36because of that people watch soon there's going to be a like a MythBusters video
- 6:44because everybody says that that's they're hanging, They're they're laying on their back.
- 6:49That's fake. It's not possible. I got news for you. It is
- 6:55possible. It did happen, and but it means it's been constant and me
- 7:00doing the pull ups. Only two pull ups, I'm like, that was
- 7:05like the tenth take, so like's it was like pull ups. I mean,
- 7:10it's not like I'm a gymnast or anything. But anyway, Yes,
- 7:15lots of hate, but what I've learned from Shane aka the Content Kid,
- 7:20is that hate on social media is actually a good thing. Yeah, it
- 7:26gets people commenting where it actually hurt my feelings. I'm like, really people
- 7:30think that we would lie not lying. But anyway, it's okay to have
- 7:34haters. It is, it is okay to have and it's it's it's let's
- 7:39be honest, it's often based. It's purely based in jealousy. I mean,
- 7:42and that's and that's really what it is. Is people see that and
- 7:44they're going, that's that. That's just two and they're saying two pull ups
- 7:48or three guys that come on? And now I mean seriously, yeah too.
- 7:53I mean we don't have all day. I mean they wanted me to
- 7:56just sit and keep doing them and get kind of boring. Yeah. Anyway,
- 8:00So it's a really strong maintenance freetbutter. As we show it again,
- 8:03we are going to be doing it on a video to show that it is
- 8:07not on the bat. It's not laying down, they're not laying on their
- 8:11back. It is for real. Because to be completely honest with you,
- 8:15if anybody thinks or anybody who has put up regular open gutters or regular gutters,
- 8:20know that if you were to hang from them, we would rip them
- 8:22right off the house. Oh yeah, absolutely would rip them off the house.
- 8:28So I can understand why people wouldn't believe it. And you know,
- 8:31another big maintenance maintenance thing you should get out of the way is getting your
- 8:35roof inspected. And you know, with our new roof Restore division, this
- 8:41is something that we're doing every single day and just getting up there and checking
- 8:45the little things because a lot of people have roofs put on that aren't that
- 8:50old and the shingles are okay, but the little things, the details weren't
- 8:54done properly and maybe already have leaks, or we can get up there doing
- 8:58it inspection and do some restore work to avoid leaks. So goods and roof
- 9:07Checker at the top of the list. There's something that we do every single
- 9:11day and there's still plenty of time to get it done before the snowflies.
- 9:13What's what's amazing about those? And again it's two things that can be done
- 9:16and not only obviously is it is it better for your home, but you
- 9:20look at the costs of if these things are not done. You talk about,
- 9:24you know, the roof restore and the ability you have at Large Stome
- 9:26Services to really if there's if there's a prim area, address it without having
- 9:31to do a new roof. Just addressing those prim areas, those little kind
- 9:35of things that can be done right now can save you not only a ton
- 9:37of work, but damage and other things. You mentioned water infiltrating into the
- 9:41basement. That does a whole bunch of really bad things to your house,
- 9:46to your founding. You just don't want water. Water is so bad for
- 9:48everything that you build. So that's a great thing about working with Andrew and
- 9:52the team at Larson Home Services that we think about we're in the fall now,
- 9:54it's official. Today is today to give McCall at large Snome services,
- 9:58whether you're looking for gutters, never having to clean that gutter again, which
- 10:03is absolutely phenomenal, roof restore real quick too. Andrew, we have to
- 10:05mention you were talking earlier too about about insulation and of course the proper thing
- 10:11that you guys do at Larstome Services through Doctor Energy Saver, it's more than
- 10:15just an insulation, it's really your whole home, taking that whole area into
- 10:18account and saying this is how we actually keep the warm air in and the
- 10:22coal they're out. That's it. That's one hundred percent, you know,
- 10:26And if you don't know, have us come out and take take a look.
- 10:31I mean, we can inspect your attic. We can show you where
- 10:33the leaks are. I mean, honestly, sometimes we get up to people's
- 10:35hosses and they just don't know. They've never been in the attic before,
- 10:39and we get up there and they're like, well, you know what,
- 10:39you're in an R sixty and everything's air cealed, so there's nothing we can
- 10:45really do. Whoever did your house, they did it properly. But for
- 10:48the for the most part, I mean, anything older than twenty or thirty
- 10:52years old typically, and some new homes too, aren't done correctly. They're
- 10:56under insulated, there's no air ceiling, there's no air ceiling in the rim
- 11:01joices. So you know, we we like to say that we can make
- 11:07your home more comfortable, but at the end of the day, the best
- 11:09stories are when we hear that we actually give people living space back. We
- 11:13give people spaces in the summer that we're too hot, We give people spaces
- 11:16back in the winter that we're too cold. And that's a good feeling because
- 11:22we know that sixty to eighty percent. In the winter, sixty to eighty
- 11:24percent of all the energy or heat in your home is lost straight through the
- 11:28ceiling. When we come in and we air seal up all those penetrations and
- 11:31we put a you know, eighteen nineteen inches of what I think is beautiful
- 11:37cellulose insulation on top of it. It's gonna it's gonna help keep keep all
- 11:41of that air from leaving the house. And then in the summer when it's
- 11:45really really hot and that ceiling turns into a radiant oven when you're trying to
- 11:50cool your home. Now we've got that giant layer of of insulation in your
- 11:56attic that that stops that heat transfer. So it's it's good for all seasons.
- 12:01So I mean, honestly, anything that would be really important to get
- 12:05done before the winter, except for having your furnace checked, we take care
- 12:11of it. So now it would be a great time to call because we
- 12:13can still get all this stuff done before before the snow fives time for a
- 12:16full house inspection. It's a great opportunity to give him a call at Larstome
- 12:20Services six eight five three five forty three forty three. That's five three,
- 12:24five four three four to three again, get that, get that assessment.
- 12:28Have them take a look at your house. Make sure everything's functioning properly.
- 12:31As we get into winter, it's going to get brutal no matter what you
- 12:35know. Wisconsin winners are just a hard hard time. Great opportunity again today's
- 12:39pick up phone, give McCall. Larstome Services have some guys. The guys
- 12:43come on out, take a look at your home, see how it performs.
- 12:45Doctor energy savor, check out those gutters as well as, of course
- 12:48Larson experience when it comes to roofing telefhll number six O eight five three five
- 12:52forty three forty three. That's five three five four three four three. Of
- 12:56course, Andrew Larson comes to us from Larstorm Services, the people's choice winner
- 13:00from Madison dot com as well. We cannot forget that. That's a that's
- 13:03a great honor, Andrew. It's always great chatting with you, my friend.
