Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to KFI AM 640, the Bill Handel show
- 0:04Speaker 1: on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Thanks for hanging out and, you know, hanging out with
- 0:14Speaker 2: Neil Saavedra and the morning crew. I just talked about
- 0:17Speaker 2: myself in the third person, but that's OK. It happens.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Handel's been out on vacation and I've loved hanging out
- 0:26Speaker 2: with you and the team. We've got a little bit
- 0:28Speaker 2: more time, a little under an hour to hang out
- 0:32Speaker 2: and just kick it, man. Just be together. You know
- 0:35Speaker 2: what I'm saying? Have a good time. Handel is back.
- 0:38Speaker 2: He'll be back tomorrow on Handel on the law and
- 0:41Speaker 2: then back with us on Monday. So don't you worry.
- 0:46Speaker 2: There's this young lady. I'm assuming she's young. She could
- 0:49Speaker 2: be old. I have no idea. Who calls in and
- 0:52Speaker 2: says that she loves my voice but hates me and
- 0:55Speaker 2: hates hearing me so much. And I get it. I
- 0:59Speaker 2: can't argue with that. The only two people I hear
- 1:02Speaker 2: ever talk about it is Shannon Farron and me. Really.
- 1:09Speaker 2: My wife was listening back to the show the other
- 1:11Speaker 2: day or listening to my interview with Mayor Bass, which
- 1:13Speaker 2: was a total kiss-ass fest, but purposefully, because I think
- 1:17Speaker 2: we are in horrible danger if Nithya Raman gets into office.
- 1:23Speaker 2: I really do. You know something funny about that, by
- 1:25Speaker 2: the way? Nithya is DSA. She's a Democratic Socialist of America,
- 1:30Speaker 2: which I'm not fond of their beliefs. But every other
- 1:33Speaker 2: DSA on the city council has thrown their support behind
- 1:39Speaker 2: Mayor Bass, strangely enough. Look at that. Looky, looky that.
- 1:45Speaker 2: All right. So back to it, we shall go. So
- 1:47Speaker 2: the pandemic, I was not a fan of the way
- 1:50Speaker 2: the government dealt with the pandemic. I think there was
- 1:55Speaker 2: enough science to understand that kids were not going to
- 1:59Speaker 2: have problems, that you could go out to eat and
- 2:02Speaker 2: be okay. If you were in decent health, you'd be okay.
- 2:07Speaker 2: I think a lot of the deaths surrounded old folks'
- 2:10Speaker 2: homes and things like that. And So there was a problem.
- 2:14Speaker 2: I think especially with food, obviously being up on food
- 2:18Speaker 2: news and the like, that the restaurants really took the
- 2:23Speaker 2: brunt of it along with hospitality and going out to
- 2:27Speaker 2: the movies and things like that. And they were places
- 2:31Speaker 2: closing left and right. Fast food franchises like Wendy's, Pizza Hut,
- 2:36Speaker 2: Outback Steakhouse. suddenly shut down. A bunch of places were shuttering.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Diners were devastated by a lot that was going on.
- 2:48Speaker 2: You had them shutting. Now, we talked about this some
- 2:52Speaker 2: weeks ago, about not having a lot of 24-hour places anymore.
- 2:58Speaker 2: There is a place called Bahama Breeze. It's Olive Garden's
- 3:01Speaker 2: sister brand. And a lot of people were heartbroken about that,
- 3:07Speaker 2: saying that they were sad that that fell by the wayside.
- 3:10Speaker 2: And then here in California, we had soup plantation. And
- 3:17Speaker 2: the soup plantation became very special to me when my
- 3:21Speaker 2: son was born, because it was super fun when he
- 3:25Speaker 2: was two, three, and the like, is I would have
- 3:30Speaker 2: him on Mondays. I used to have Mondays off because
- 3:35Speaker 2: I would have long weeks here. And so having Mondays off,
- 3:39Speaker 2: I would spend those. Those were Max and Daddy days.
- 3:42Speaker 2: And I would take him to Soup Plantation because you
- 3:46Speaker 2: could get small amounts of stuff for him, you know,
- 3:50Speaker 2: little salads, little slice of pizza. You could get desserts.
- 3:54Speaker 2: And he loved it just having that. And so Max
- 3:57Speaker 2: and Daddy day was at Soup Plantation a lot. And
- 4:01Speaker 2: so it has a special place in my heart, you know,
- 4:05Speaker 2: having pictures and all the people that work there treated
- 4:08Speaker 2: him so well because he's just this little cutie pie.
- 4:12Speaker 2: And I think a lot of us got bummed when
- 4:16Speaker 2: Soup Plantation went the way of the Dodo bird. It
- 4:20Speaker 2: was a great way to get a salad, pick your
- 4:23Speaker 2: own salad, put it together, have, you know, have some
- 4:29Speaker 2: of the different sides. I don't know. I just, it
- 4:31Speaker 2: was a great place to go and get, um, decent
- 4:35Speaker 2: food for a decent price. Well, they're coming back slowly. Uh,
- 4:42Speaker 2: the shuttered chain famous for the, that all you can
- 4:46Speaker 2: eat buffet, uh, rows upon rows of that pizza and
- 4:50Speaker 2: salad and, uh, great soups, by the way, from when
- 4:53Speaker 2: I remember millions of devoted fans, um, It closed in
- 4:59Speaker 2: 2020 due to health and safety concerns, pandemic uncertainty, all
- 5:03Speaker 2: that stuff. While Sweet Tomatoes, Soup Plantation's sister brand just
- 5:10Speaker 2: outside of California, just announced the chain is officially coming
- 5:14Speaker 2: back to the West Coast after almost a decade. So
- 5:20Speaker 2: how Soup Plantation, Sweet Tomatoes, 2027, making its... back fresh
- 5:29Speaker 2: is back they say coming soon so all of us
- 5:33Speaker 2: bummed out people when soup plantation left are getting excited
- 5:38Speaker 2: to see it come back how uh massive is it
- 5:42Speaker 2: going to be coming back i don't know don't know
- 5:45Speaker 2: what to tell you a little cryptic at this point
- 5:48Speaker 2: um But slowly but surely, we'll see it come back
- 5:54Speaker 2: in Los Angeles in the Southland. And that is going
- 5:57Speaker 2: to be a happy thing. Did you used to go
- 5:59Speaker 2: to the Soup Plantation, Amy?
- 6:02Speaker 3: I have been there before, but it wasn't a place
- 6:05Speaker 3: I frequented.
- 6:06Speaker 2: There's one not far from us in Los Feliz. Right
- 6:10Speaker 2: there by Costco. Or it was right there by Costco.
- 6:14Speaker 3: But it's closed.
- 6:15Speaker 2: It's closed now.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Are they going to open in the same locations, I wonder?
- 6:18Speaker 2: Oh, I don't think that's going to happen. I think
- 6:20Speaker 2: something else is there now. But you know what? But
- 6:22Speaker 2: it wasn't far from us.
- 6:25Speaker 3: When I've gone, I've thoroughly enjoyed it.
- 6:27Speaker 2: I'm not grilling you, sister. I'm just saying.
- 6:30Speaker 3: I like it, but I don't go there very often.
- 6:32Speaker 4: Okay.
- 6:33Speaker 3: There's a Mimi's Cafe there, too.
- 6:35Speaker 2: And I don't go there very often. I think that's
- 6:37Speaker 2: gone now.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Oh, well, it used to be there.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Get out. Shop local, man.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Zoo plantation is also a chain, isn't it?
- 6:49Speaker 2: Yes, it is.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Okay. So right back at you.
- 6:54Speaker 2: It looks like we're going to be getting some rain
- 6:56Speaker 2: this weekend and on into next week. Fingers crossed. I mean,
- 7:01Speaker 2: love some rain and some cool weather and all that
- 7:06Speaker 2: stuff coming our way. So I'll be happy for that.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Handel joins us back again in his rightful place. on Monday, but, uh,
- 7:14Speaker 2: you got me thinking.
- 7:15Speaker 3: About the lion King now, since he was just in Africa,
- 7:18Speaker 3: he's retakes his throat.
- 7:19Speaker 2: He comes and retakes. Yeah. So he will be back
- 7:30Speaker 2: on Monday, but I talked to him yesterday. He's going
- 7:33Speaker 2: to be back tomorrow, uh, doing handle on the law.
- 7:36Speaker 2: So you can get your handle fixed there and we'll
- 7:39Speaker 2: hear about his, uh, his little adventure. there in Africa.
- 7:44Speaker 2: All right, Neil Saavedra and the morning crew, you've got
- 7:48Speaker 2: Gary and Shannon coming up. I love Shannon screaming like
- 7:52Speaker 2: about Nithya Raman. You're listening to the show. We're who
- 7:57Speaker 2: we are. You're going to get asked questions. People, what
- 8:04Speaker 2: can you do? Am I right? Kraft is launching a
- 8:06Speaker 2: new mac and cheese, but not like what you'd think.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Doing a little foodie Friday here. And then we're going
- 8:12Speaker 2: to go back to something Amy King was talking about
- 8:15Speaker 2: earlier about being able to find out what Amazon knows
- 8:20Speaker 2: about you. And it's not just what you purchased. So
- 8:23Speaker 2: we're going to test that with the crew here and
- 8:26Speaker 2: go over what it knows or thinks about us. I
- 8:30Speaker 2: hope it thinks nice things. I spend a lot of money.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Well, you know, this whole thing started because somebody looked
- 8:39Speaker 3: at their about you section and it said flat buttocks.
- 8:43Speaker 3: Like that's what it knew about her.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Really? Yeah. Do they buy like those enhanced underwear or
- 8:54Speaker 2: whatever that have the pad in it?
- 8:56Speaker 4: Maybe.
- 8:56Speaker 2: I don't know. That is freaking hilarious.
- 9:00Speaker 3: And that's what got everybody's attention. Everybody started going, wait,
- 9:03Speaker 3: what do they know about me?
- 9:05Speaker 2: Oh, man. So we'll find out, I guess, live on
- 9:08Speaker 2: the air. Okay. Oh, Ditka died.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Who?
- 9:15Speaker 2: Mike Ditka. NFL coach Mike Ditka has passed away at
- 9:21Speaker 2: the age of 86. His family just announced the news.
- 9:27Speaker 2: The Bears. That's sad news. I'd say he's quite the character.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Often played himself in movies and television and things like
- 9:42Speaker 2: that as well. Sad indeed. All right, Kraft launching something
- 9:48Speaker 2: interesting that they'd never done before. The new Kraft mac
- 9:51Speaker 2: and cheese is cheese cheesy ramen. So ramen noodles. they
- 10:00Speaker 2: have pork flavor chicken flavor and spicy noodles but all
- 10:07Speaker 2: with cheese so that's something you can turn it up
- 10:11Speaker 2: with uh first of his kind ramen is Kraft's own
- 10:16Speaker 2: take on the innovative ramen customization. Jif, if you remember,
- 10:21Speaker 2: had peanut butter noodles, cup of noodles had the unique
- 10:26Speaker 2: dill pickle ramen. Well, Kraft's new lineup features those three
- 10:31Speaker 2: varieties that I spoke about, spicy chicken and pork, perfect
- 10:36Speaker 2: cheesy flavor for every plate. And if you want to
- 10:39Speaker 2: try them, um, You know, in addition to the ramen aisle,
- 10:43Speaker 2: mark your calendars. The new Kraft mac and cheese cheesy
- 10:47Speaker 2: ramen lineup will drop early in 2027. And they've already
- 10:53Speaker 2: announced plans for more formats of flavors to follow suit.
- 10:56Speaker 2: So more in that category and beyond.
- 10:59Speaker 3: I have a question.
- 11:01Speaker 2: I'm curious. Yes. You in the back with the red hair.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Is this a gimmick or is it going to be
- 11:06Speaker 3: something that stays? Because there's so many products now and
- 11:09Speaker 3: it's starting to really tick me off. That they'll go, oh,
- 11:11Speaker 3: we've got this new thing. And then they make like
- 11:14Speaker 3: 10 of them. And then they go, oh, sorry, sold out.
- 11:18Speaker 3: Like DiGiorno had that Thanksgiving pizza.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:21Speaker 3: And it sold out immediately. It was promotional. So I
- 11:24Speaker 3: made one of my own and it was really good.
- 11:25Speaker 3: Might make it again this Thanksgiving.
- 11:26Speaker 2: But anyway. That's kind of a seasonal thing, per se.
- 11:30Speaker 2: This looks like they're kind of trying to attack that
- 11:32Speaker 2: category to me.
- 11:34Speaker 3: Okay.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Don't know if it'll last.
- 11:35Speaker 3: That's great if they're doing that. And I'm trying to
- 11:37Speaker 3: remember what, there was just one last week.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Oh, it was Starbucks.
- 11:41Speaker 3: They said, oh, we've got this special peanuts product line
- 11:45Speaker 3: or something. And they had like 10 of them at
- 11:47Speaker 3: each store and they immediately sold out and they're not
- 11:49Speaker 3: refilling them. So it's just a gimmick to get publicity
- 11:53Speaker 3: as opposed to introducing a new food that's going to
- 11:55Speaker 3: be around for a while.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Coming up on Monday is a brand new segment here
- 12:00Speaker 2: with Amy King. That really grinds my gears with Amy King.
- 12:04Speaker 3: Oh, wait, I like the name of that.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Oh, that's from a television show. That's a Family Guy reference.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Oh, it is?
- 12:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:09Speaker 3: Okay, I don't watch Family Guy.
- 12:10Speaker 2: You know what really grinds my gears? Yeah, it was Peter.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Ah, Peter.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Lowish. Lowish. Hey, Lowish.
- 12:21Speaker 4: And if you are excited about those mac and cheese
- 12:24Speaker 4: ramen noodles, there are hotlines you can call to get
- 12:27Speaker 4: the help you need.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Yeah. You know, I think about it. I'm like, yeah.
- 12:33Speaker 2: This type of noodle means a lot to me. And
- 12:36Speaker 2: I like the elbow for mac and cheese, for your
- 12:41Speaker 2: Mornay sauce. I like, oh, gosh, what is the other pasta?
- 12:47Speaker 2: It means little ear in Italian. Cocchiette? Cocchiette. Little ear
- 12:56Speaker 2: pasta I like. Shells are okay. Spaghetti is a little weird.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Although the spaghetti-type noodles or the thin noodles with a
- 13:06Speaker 2: cheesy sauce, not so great. Although carbonara with egg yolk
- 13:12Speaker 2: sauce is lovely. I don't know. I'm going to have
- 13:15Speaker 2: to think about this with my foodie brain. We come back.
- 13:18Speaker 2: We're going to learn all about our crew and what
- 13:22Speaker 2: Amazon thinks who they are and whether it thinks we
- 13:25Speaker 2: have a flat butt or not. Amy King listening. I
- 13:28Speaker 2: enjoy Amy King's show in the morning. Wake up call
- 13:31Speaker 2: starts at five ends at six. And she was talking.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Who are you talking to this morning that brought up
- 13:37Speaker 2: the Amazon thing?
- 13:38Speaker 3: Sue Yoon with ABC.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Yes, indeed. And she was saying that Amazon collects information
- 13:45Speaker 2: on you both by what you, you know, peruse and
- 13:49Speaker 2: what you purchase and stuff. And then she said, you
- 13:51Speaker 2: can find out about yourself. I guess somebody looked up.
- 13:54Speaker 2: There's a little place to look up. you know, about
- 13:57Speaker 2: yourself on Amazon. And she looked it up and it
- 14:01Speaker 2: said she had a flat butt.
- 14:04Speaker 3: A flat buttocks.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Flat. That's a flat butt. Flat butt. So, Amy, where
- 14:10Speaker 2: do we look? And you looked at yours and it
- 14:12Speaker 2: said you have a pool.
- 14:14Speaker 3: It's as likely has a pool.
- 14:15Speaker 2: OK.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Which I do not. I wish I did.
- 14:18Speaker 4: You know why?
- 14:18Speaker 3: Probably, though, is because I've bought mom mom's stuff because
- 14:22Speaker 3: she's got a pool up in oregon the warden and
- 14:26Speaker 3: so i've bought her things for her pool before so
- 14:29Speaker 3: maybe that's why okay so if you go into uh
- 14:32Speaker 3: go they go hello amy so go to your account
- 14:36Speaker 3: yeah uh and if you click on your profile.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Then there just says hello neil.
- 14:42Speaker 3: Or whatever well So where it says, hello, Amy, click
- 14:45Speaker 3: on that or.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Hello, Neil.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Okay.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:47Speaker 2: And then if it said, hello, Amy, I'd be like,
- 14:50Speaker 2: wait a minute.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Right. So on the left-hand side, then it says profile,
- 14:54Speaker 3: manage profile.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Manage profile. Yeah.
- 14:58Speaker 3: Up at the top says, or says switch profile.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Sorry. I did mine on the app on the phone.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Look at you. Okay.
- 15:06Speaker 3: So you click on that and then.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Mine just says switch accounts. Is that what you're talking about?
- 15:11Speaker 3: Switch profile. And when you click on it, it'll say
- 15:15Speaker 3: it'll show you as the account holder. And then it
- 15:17Speaker 3: says about you. And it says new. See the information
- 15:20Speaker 3: we use to personalize your experience. Do you not see this?
- 15:24Speaker 2: No.
- 15:25Speaker 3: And can you help him?
- 15:26Speaker 2: Well, no, I I'm a big kid. Hello. It says
- 15:31Speaker 2: who's shopping? Select a profile. Select a profile.
- 15:37Speaker 3: Other people on your on your.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Oh, I guess Tracy's on here. OK, so I say why?
- 15:42Speaker 3: So click on you.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Okay. And then what? Shopping is Neil.
- 15:46Speaker 3: Okay. Now, is there a place to say to click
- 15:50Speaker 3: on you? Switch profile?
- 15:53Speaker 2: Oh, my goodness. Hold on.
- 15:55Speaker 3: I would run in there, but then there'd be really
- 15:57Speaker 3: dead air.
- 15:58Speaker 2: No, I'm still here. It's not a touch screen, Anna.
- 16:02Speaker 2: That's me. Okay. So I click on there. Okay.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Yeah. Do you see the about you now?
- 16:09Speaker 2: She says... Who's shopping? Select profile. I select myself. Okay.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Then what? It says me.
- 16:19Speaker 3: It doesn't.
- 16:20Speaker 5: See if it'll do her.
- 16:22Speaker 2: It won't even let me. I'm ready to share. Wow. Okay, Clay. Clay,
- 16:27Speaker 2: tell us about yourself.
- 16:29Speaker 4: It says that it has a bunch of different departments
- 16:34Speaker 4: that it would like me to shop in based on
- 16:36Speaker 4: what it knows about me.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Okay.
- 16:37Speaker 4: And it's a lot of juggling stuff.
- 16:42Speaker 2: What the hell?
- 16:44Speaker 4: There's four different departments for juggling and juggling accessories.
- 16:48Speaker 2: So why do you have so much juggle? Do you juggle?
- 16:51Speaker 2: I do juggle. Well, then that doesn't seem very odd
- 16:54Speaker 2: at all. I mean, to the rest of the world.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Nailed me.
- 16:58Speaker 4: It also says for interests and hobbies, it says participates
- 17:02Speaker 4: in costume events.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Do you do cosplay?
- 17:06Speaker 4: I do sketch comedy. So I'm, you know, buying costume
- 17:09Speaker 4: pieces every now and again.
- 17:11Speaker 2: You strike me as somebody that does sketchy comedy. It's, hey.
- 17:16Speaker 4: Okay, so now, okay, anything else that has turned up
- 17:20Speaker 4: about you? It says I prioritize intense oral care.
- 17:25Speaker 2: Oh, my God, you're a weirdo.
- 17:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Only on the weekdays, though. Now we're talking about Amazon
- 17:35Speaker 2: keeping track of you. Amy was talking about it on
- 17:38Speaker 2: Wake Up Call this morning. And I guess somebody had
- 17:42Speaker 2: looked into– there's a place where you can look into
- 17:45Speaker 2: what it knows about you, called About You. And it
- 17:50Speaker 2: has learned things about you. And some woman looked at
- 17:53Speaker 2: it and it said she had a flat butt. So
- 17:56Speaker 2: I'm assuming– That she was buying butt lift underwear or
- 18:00Speaker 2: butt lift jeans or something where it knew. So we
- 18:03Speaker 2: learned out that New Clay has a thing for juggling.
- 18:07Speaker 2: Love it. Okay.
- 18:09Speaker 4: Was so unemployed two summers ago.
- 18:11Speaker 2: Oh, wow. Juggling saved my life. That's great. Yeah. Try
- 18:18Speaker 2: to make fun of that. Will not. Won't. I won't.
- 18:25Speaker 2: but we're happy to have you still alive and juggling. Thanks, Neil.
- 18:30Speaker 2: You're welcome, sir. Amy, it said you possibly have a pool.
- 18:36Speaker 2: It said the same of me. What else did we learn?
- 18:39Speaker 2: Do you have a pool? We do have a pool. Oh, okay.
- 18:41Speaker 2: We have a small one, like a 12 by 24
- 18:44Speaker 2: or something.
- 18:44Speaker 3: It doesn't know much about me, except that I shot
- 18:49Speaker 3: from the women's department.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Oh, good.
- 18:52Speaker 2: You've changed. I would hope so.
- 18:54Speaker 3: I prefer thriller and action adventure movies. And I'm prepared
- 19:00Speaker 3: for travel and I love to travel. So they got
- 19:03Speaker 3: that on me. But I don't have any interesting factoids
- 19:07Speaker 3: like when it.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Likes to juggle.
- 19:10Speaker 3: It knows I have a cat.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Wow. Well, we all do, Amy.
- 19:15Speaker 3: That's true.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:17Speaker 3: That's true.
