- 0:54Speaker 1: A Hey, y'all, welcome to this week's show. We're going
- 1:02to cover several topics this week several brief entries. We'll
- 1:05start with the couple Questions and answers to the priest
- 1:08from the Classic Core Radio Replies. The person asks, could
- 1:15a priest be in mortal sin yet give the true
- 1:18body of Christ? And a answer A priest commits a
- 1:22grave set of sacrifice. Priest commits a grave sin of
- 1:26sacrilege if he celebrates the Mass whilst he himself is
- 1:31in a state of mortal sin, But that would not
- 1:33render the consecration invalid. The words of consecration have their
- 1:37effect quite apart from the state of the celebrant soul.
- 1:40He consecrates in virtue of his priesthood, not in virtue
- 1:43of his being a state of grace or of sin,
- 1:46if it is his loss if he be not in
- 1:49God's grace. But the communicant suffers no loss in receiving
- 1:52communion from his hands. It is the priesthood of Christ
- 1:55in him that consecrates, and that is not less efficacious
- 1:59because as a priest sense personally, and the person asks,
- 2:03at what age can children receive Holy communion? And they
- 2:06answer any baptized child could receive holy communion with Prophet.
- 2:10The early Christians frequently gave communion even to infants. However,
- 2:13the Church, for wise reasons requires in her present discipline
- 2:17that children should have attained sufficient reason to be able,
- 2:20after due instruction, to know that the blessed Sacrament differs
- 2:24from ordinary food, and that by receiving it, they are
- 2:27receiving Christ. Person asks has a child of seven sufficient reason?
- 2:32They say, as a rule, yes, the law of the
- 2:34Church to receive Holy communits communion. The law of the
- 2:38Church to receive Holy communion once a year obliges all
- 2:41Catholics who have come to the use of reason, and
- 2:44this law begins to oblige from about the age of seven.
- 2:47The average child of seven certainly has enough sense to
- 2:50realize that the reception of the Holy youth Christ is
- 2:51a religious act. It can know who our Lord is
- 2:55and the fact that He is present in the blessed sacrament.
- 2:58Such a child is quite capable of approaching with sincere
- 3:01faith and devotion. And they're asked, you have often spoken
- 3:07of priests. Do you regard their ordination a sacrament? And
- 3:11they say, Among the seven sacraments is that of holy orders.
- 3:15It is its institution by Christ is a visible right,
- 3:19and the fact that it gives graces are all clearly
- 3:21shown in scripture. Thus, Paul says that Christ gave apostles, evangelists, pastors, etc.
- 3:27For the work of the ministry. Ordaining by imposition of
- 3:32hands is often mentioned, and Timothy was told not to
- 3:36neglect the grace of God which is in thee by
- 3:38the imposition of hands Verse Timothy four fourteen. Rightly ordained
- 3:43priests alone have the right to teach the Gospel authoritatively
- 3:47and carry on its sacred ministry. And the person says,
- 3:50did not Saint Peter say that all Christians are a
- 3:52holy priesthood? And they say yes, and in a certain
- 3:54sense is true. Baptism implies a certain consecration to God
- 3:58and the obligation to offer the sacrifice of praise by
- 4:01a sincere life of prayer and of good works. He
- 4:04points out that as the Jews were a chosen race,
- 4:07so the baptized were chosen race today. But the Jews
- 4:10had an addition, especially chosen men consecrate as priests among themselves. Thus,
- 4:15whilst christ whilst Christians are a chosen race now offering
- 4:20the sacrifice of praise and of a pure life to God.
- 4:24Certain men must be chosen from among them to offer
- 4:27special sacrifices of Christ's body and blood and to forgive sins.
- 4:31In this sense, not all Christians are priests. All right, Now,
- 4:36let's see what Father Sparago has to say. We're going
- 4:39to start with the Litany of Loretto, and that's actually
- 4:43going to finish up our section on prayers. Then we'll
- 4:45get into processions, all kinds of other interesting things. So
- 4:48the Litany of Loretto and the Salve Regina. The Litany
- 4:52of Loretto is a form of prayer in which the
- 4:54most glorious titles are given to the Mother of God,
- 4:56and her intercession is unceasingly implored. Litany of Loretto takes
- 5:01its origin and its name from the place of a
- 5:03pilgrimage in Italy, Loretto, where the Holy House of Nazareth
- 5:07now stands. In this litany, first of all, God is
- 5:10called upon for mercy, as in the Currie Leison of
- 5:13the mass it is. This is followed by invocation of
- 5:17the most Holy Trinity. Then the Blessed Mother of God
- 5:19is invoked and her intercessions besought. These invocations may be
- 5:23divided into six groups. The first three invocations expressed her
- 5:27special prerogatives, her sanctity, her divine maternity, her immaculate virginity. Two,
- 5:33then her perfections as a mother are enumerated Mother of Christ. Three.
- 5:37She is next extolled in virtue of her virginity, virgin,
- 5:41most prudent, et cetera. Four. Her glories are then depicted
- 5:44under a number of figures and types mirror of justice,
- 5:47et cetera. Five. Mary is next shown in her relation
- 5:51to the Church militant, help of the sick, et cetera.
- 5:54And finally in her relation to the Church triumphant Queen
- 5:57of Angels, et cetera. At the conclusion of the litany,
- 6:00confiding in the meditation of our Confiding in the mediation
- 6:05of our advocate, we appealed to her Divine soign, beseeching
- 6:09him to spare, to hear, to have mercy upon us.
- 6:12Several of the invocations have been added by the Holy
- 6:14See in the course of centuries, for instance, help of
- 6:16Christians after the proclamation of the Dogma of the Emmaculate Conception,
- 6:20and recently, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary on the
- 6:23introduction of the customer reciting the Rosary in public during
- 6:25the month of October. An indulgence of three hundred days
- 6:29may be gained for each recital of this litany. The
- 6:32Salve Regina, or hell Holy Queen, as it is called,
- 6:35was composed in ten oh nine by Blessed Hermann, and
- 6:38in eleven forty six the illustrious Saint Bernard added to
- 6:42the sweet words of clement Opius of Sweet Virgin Mary.
- 6:47Principal devotional exercises, there are ordinary and extraordinary practices of devotion.
- 6:54The former take place at regular appointed times, the latter
- 6:58only on special occasions. Sip of water here. The regular
- 7:04services held in the parish church on Sundays and Holy Days,
- 7:08both in the forenoon and in the afternoon, as well
- 7:11as weekday services, belong to the ordinary practices of devotion.
- 7:15On Sundays and Festivals. In all parish churches, one mass
- 7:19or several masses, according to the size of the parish
- 7:21and the number of priests, are said one after another
- 7:24at one of which a short sermon is generally preached
- 7:26in the afternoon or evening, either of the Rosary and
- 7:29and a litany or said the Litany of the Saints.
- 7:31The Litany of the Holy Name, the Litany of Loretto,
- 7:33and the Litany of the Sacred Heart are approved by
- 7:35the Holy See for the public services of the Church,
- 7:38no other being allowed without permission of the Bishop or
- 7:41Vespers are sung with benediction of the Blessed Sacrament on weekdays,
- 7:46and almost every parish church a parochial Mass is said daily,
- 7:49with afternoon or evening services consisting generally of the Rosary
- 7:53or of some other devotion, and benediction on one or
- 7:56more days a week. Processions, pilgrimages, the Way of the Cross,
- 8:00expositions of the Blessed Sacrament, and missions belong to the
- 8:04extraordinary practices of devotion. Christian burial services come under the
- 8:09class of processions, and the Way of the Cross is
- 8:12in fact nothing more or less in visiting the scenes
- 8:14of our Lord's passion at Jerusalem without leaving our own country.
- 8:18Processions processions are solemn are asylemn religious ceremony during which
- 8:24prayers are recited in common by those who take part
- 8:27in them. Processions. We are customary under the old dispensation.
- 8:31We read of the Ark of the Covenant being carried
- 8:33around about the city of Jericho, of the art being
- 8:37brought in solemn procession to Mount Zion by King David,
- 8:41and thence transferred to the Temple by King Solomon, or
- 8:45the temple built by Salomon. I should say our Lord
- 8:48also made a solemn entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.
- 8:51The ceremonial observed in our Christian procession is intended to
- 8:55portray the truth that we have not here a lasting city,
- 8:59but we seek one to come Hebrews thirteen fourteen. The
- 9:03procession issues proceeds in Hens the name procession from the Church,
- 9:07and returns thither to show that we must enter the
- 9:10Church on earth if we would reach the Church in heaven.
- 9:14The cross is carried first, because in this life we
- 9:17can never be wholly free from crosses and sufferings if
- 9:20we follow the maximums of our Lord. The banners are
- 9:23to remind us that we are warriors, because here below
- 9:26we have constantly to contend against the malignant foe and
- 9:30our own evil proclivities. Those who walk in the procession
- 9:33go two and two to signify the twofold precept of charity,
- 9:36especially that of charity to our neighbor. The children take
- 9:39the lead because their greater innocence renders them more pleasing
- 9:43to God. The adults follow first the men, with the
- 9:45priests in their midst and following the women. Processions, if possible,
- 9:49are held in open air. The prayers are recited. The
- 9:52prayers recited very according to the object of the procession.
- 9:56On rogation days, the Litany of the Saints is sung
- 9:59by writes. The men ought to walk bear headed, but
- 10:02not so the clergy and persons in official dress. This
- 10:06has showed the respect due to authorities, but its ecclesiastical
- 10:09and civil. In the procession of Corpus Christie, all heads
- 10:12are uncovered by reason of the presence of the blessed sacrament.
- 10:16The Church holds processions either for the purpose of setting
- 10:21before us more forcibly certain events in the life of Christ,
- 10:24certain doctrines of the faith, or in order to obtain
- 10:27speedy help from God. On these occasions and opportunity has
- 10:30afforded us of testifying in a public matter our faith
- 10:33and our loyalty to the Church. The object of the
- 10:36Church proposes in setting before men. The object the Church
- 10:41proposes in setting before us more vividly certain events in
- 10:46our Lord's life or certain doctrines of the faith, is
- 10:49to confirm our beliefs. Processions are a means of obtaining
- 10:53more speedy assistance from on high, because God inclines his
- 10:56ear more readily to petitions offered in common and experience
- 11:01proves that processions are most efficacious modes of supplication. The
- 11:05processions on Candlemass Day and on Palm Sunday are in
- 11:09remembrance of events our Lord's life. Those on Holy Saturday
- 11:13on the feasts of Corpus Christie are illustrative of the
- 11:17Doctor of the faith. The procession of Saint Mark and
- 11:20of the Rogation Days are for the purpose of entreating
- 11:23the Divine help. The following processions form part of the
- 11:26ritual of the church everywhere. The procession on the Feast
- 11:29Day of Purification. At this lighted tapers are carried around
- 11:34the church because on that day the Age Simeon declared
- 11:38the child Jesus to be a light to the revelation
- 11:42of the gentiles Luke two thirty two. The wax tapers
- 11:47are emblematic of Christ, the light of the world. The
- 11:50wax betokens his manhood. The flame is Godhead, and the
- 11:54light shines forth from the taper. So the divinity of
- 11:57Christ shines forth from the sacred from his sacred human
- 12:00by his teaching and his miracles. And as the taper
- 12:03is consumed while illuminating all around, so the human nature
- 12:07of Our Lord was sacrificed for the sake of enlightening mankind.
- 12:10Christ is in very truth the light of the world,
- 12:12since by his teaching he dispels darkness of ignorance and error.
- 12:16The procession of Palm Sunday, when blessed palms are carried
- 12:20around the church in memory of the day our lord
- 12:22triumphal entry into Jerusalem. The palm branches borne by the
- 12:26Jews were symbols of victory, the victory that Christ was
- 12:29to gain by his death over the devil, the prince
- 12:31of this world. Our procession is significant of the Christian's
- 12:35triumphal entry into Heaven. The priest knocks three times at
- 12:38the door of the church with the processional cross. Then
- 12:40it is open to show that only through trials and
- 12:43tribulations can we enter the gates of Heaven and be
- 12:46admitted into the realms of bliss. The procession on Holy Saturday,
- 12:50when the blessed Sacrament is solemnly taken from the place
- 12:53where it was deposited and born by the priests, attended
- 12:56by the clergy back to the high altar. This procession
- 12:59is of our future resurrection. The ceremony ought by rights
- 13:03to take place at daybreak on Easter Day, but his
- 13:06view could then be present. It is anticipate on the
- 13:09eve of the feast, the procession of the Feast of
- 13:12Corpus Christie, when the blessed Sacrament is carried to one
- 13:16or more altars of repose to testify publicly or faith
- 13:19in the presence of our Lord in the adorable sacrament
- 13:22of the Altar. The Festival of Corpus Christie the Body
- 13:25of Christ is on the Thursday following Trinity Sunday, consequently
- 13:29in the second week after Pentecost, because soon after the
- 13:32sin of the Holy ghosts, the apostles began to display
- 13:35holy communion to the faithful. This festival was instituted some
- 13:38six centuries ago. It was first celebrated in Belgium by
- 13:41the order of the Bishop of Liege in consequence of
- 13:46the revelation made to a nun Blessed Juliana in twelve fifty,
- 13:50and shortly after Pope Urban the Fourth decreed that it
- 13:53should be kept throughout the whole Church. In this procession.
- 13:57The sacred Heart is carried in a monstrance before beneath
- 14:00the academy beneath a canopy, flowers are strown, strewn, flowers are
- 14:05strewn on the way, and censors swung. The altars of
- 14:09repose are beautifully decorated with lights and flowers in honor
- 14:12of the Blessed Sacrament. In some places four altars are erected,
- 14:16and appause is made at each, and one of the
- 14:18accounts of the institution of the Blessed Sacrament is given
- 14:21by the four Evangelists is read. The four altars signify
- 14:25the four quarters of the world. After the reading of
- 14:27the Gospel, a prayer is added for protection against lightning
- 14:30and tempest and for a good harvest. This solemn ceremony,
- 14:34which is generally terminated by the Tedaeum and the Church,
- 14:37cannot fail to impress every beholder and lead the non
- 14:41Catholic to inquire what it is towards Such profound reverence
- 14:45and veneration is displayed the procession on Saint Mark's Day,
- 14:49when in Catholic countries the priest goes out to bless
- 14:52the fields and praise God grant the fruits of the earth.
- 14:54In due season. Saint Mark is commemorated on the twenty
- 14:57fifth of April. The procession on this day its origin
- 15:00of Pope Saint Gregory the Great, about the year six
- 15:03hundred six hundred, at the time when plague raged in Rome.
- 15:07Saint Gregory ordered that the procession beheld for the purpose
- 15:10of employing the mercy of God, and immediately after the
- 15:13pestilence was stayed the procession on the three Rogation Days,
- 15:18the object of which is to ask of God the
- 15:20blessing of an abundant harvest. The Rogation Days are three
- 15:23days preceding the ascension of Our Lord. These processions were
- 15:27first instituted by Saint Mamritus Mameritus not familiar with that one,
- 15:34bishop of Vienna and France, about the year four to seventy,
- 15:37at a season when a failure of crops and damage
- 15:40occasion by earthquakes had brought about great scarcity and destitution.
- 15:44In addition to the processions above name, there are local
- 15:47processions held yearly in honor of the patron saint of
- 15:50the place or some shrine in the vicinity. Sometimes processions
- 15:54are ordered by the Pope or the bishop of the diocese,
- 15:57as for instance, on an occasion of jubilee or the
- 16:00he's in a great calamity. When the bishop visits a church,
- 16:02the clergy go in procession to meet and receive him.
- 16:05Processions are also formed at funerals. Prayer is the soul
- 16:08of processions. He who does not go to join in
- 16:11the supplication had better remain at home. All right, we
- 16:17will wrap it up there. Today we covered a lot
- 16:19of topics, even though it was a brief show. Yeah,
- 16:24I think it's a good stopping place before we get
- 16:26into the next topic. Y'all. I hope you had a
- 16:30wonderful Easter, and don't forget to pray your divine mercy
- 16:35chaplet and if possible, go to a confession and receive
- 16:40the Eucharist on Sunday, receive that indulgence. It's a very
- 16:43important and it's an incredibly important prayer. As I always say,
- 16:48I don't care if you're a set of acantness or
- 16:51what right. You don't even have to believe the popes.
- 16:53The pope. The Church is still the institution that declares saints.
- 16:59And I know some people were like, well, you know,
- 17:02after Vatican too, I don't believe that this saint was
- 17:05really a saint, because I don't trust the church anymore. Yeah,
- 17:08you need to get over that, Saint Falstine Kuawska. It
- 17:12was incredible saint and she was given an incredibly important
- 17:17message from Jesus for us. And whatever your feelings are
- 17:23about current church leadership, I don't really much care. That's
- 17:27kind of between you and God and you and your
- 17:29priest and your bishop and all that. But the saints
- 17:33are the saints, and the diary of Saint Faustina is
- 17:38really incredible. You do you need to get a newer copy.
- 17:42You know, there were a few copies that were printed
- 17:44that had errors, confusing errors, like in the first couple
- 17:49of years, I guess after she was beatified. But a
- 17:54newer copy is that all cleared up and it makes
- 17:57a lot more sense once it was. And I mean,
- 18:01I love the Divine Mercy Chaplet. I pray the Divine
- 18:03Mercy every single day and the promises associated with it
- 18:07are just incredible. You know, you need to do Divine
- 18:10Mercy chaplet every day at three if you possibly can.
- 18:14You need to do analot. Actually, there's people who have
- 18:18become saints by doing that. I mean, really that that
- 18:21devotion has led to sainthood. So if you need more confirmation,
- 18:25look at the Holy Lives led by people who practiced
- 18:29the prayer of the Divine Mercy at three o'clock and
- 18:34of course prayer Rosary every day and if you possibly can,
- 18:37at six am, noon, and six pm, pray the Angelus.
- 18:42The exorcists tell us that that is just devastating to demons.
- 18:48It pushed keeps away all demonic influence and it's a
- 18:54really good practice. After you pray the Divine Mercy is
- 18:58to stations of the Cross. If you can do that,
- 19:00it'll really deepen your devotion. And you know something we
- 19:04do a lot during Lent. I began last year and
- 19:09I'm going to redouble my efforts this year to do
- 19:12it every day at three And if you happen to
- 19:14be awake at three in the morning, you know you
- 19:16can do the same thing. I knew someone who's grandmother
- 19:20prayer prayed Divine Mercy at three am and three pm
- 19:23every single day and is actually being considered for beatification.
- 19:29So very very powerful prayer. And of course one of
- 19:33the promises goes with it is if you pray it
- 19:36by the for someone with someone who's dying, they get
- 19:42immense benefit and forgiveness of sins and really a very
- 19:47good thing to do. And if you have anyone that
- 19:50needs conversion in your life, praying the Divine Mercy chaplet
- 19:54and the Rosary and you know, praying that for those
- 19:57intentions of the conversion of that person. Very very powerful prayers,
- 20:01very very powerful prayers. And we need to think about
- 20:04it more than just the week after Easter. There's actually
- 20:09a newslayer you can get. I don't have it right
- 20:12in front of me, but if you go to the
- 20:16Divine Mercy I guess it's Shrine of Divine Mercy, or
- 20:19it could be the site just to dedicated to Saint Faustina,
- 20:22you can sign up for daily little excerpts from her
- 20:26diary and encouragements to pray Divine Mercy Chaplet. You know,
- 20:30that's that's too important for me to just gloss over.
- 20:34Let's see here, I've already read it for the day
- 20:40and deleted it. So I am in my email as
- 20:44we speak, and I am clicking on my trash icon
- 20:50and where is it? H got to be here somewhere.
- 21:00I'm sure this is just fascinating listening right now. Wait
- 21:03let me just type in a search divine Mercy. There
- 21:05we go. You know what, I am not finding it.
- 21:16I absure it's here somewhere, and I am just like
- 21:20blind to it because I'm looking for it so hard.
- 21:23What I will do is in the show notes, I
- 21:26will put that website. Yeah, I'll put that website so
- 21:30you can you can sign up for it, because yeah,
- 21:35that needs to be done. And prayers to the Sacred
- 21:38the Holy Face of Jesus absolutely very important. And let's yeah,
- 21:45I'm amazed. I can't seem to see it. Weird. Maybe
- 21:49I'm in the wrong email account. I bet, I bet
- 21:52that's it. I'm in the wrong email account, because otherwise
- 21:55this doesn't make any sense at all. Yeah, that's what
- 21:58it is. Okay, So as to finish the podcast, I
- 22:03will log into my other email account and I will
- 22:06get you that website and I'll put it in the
- 22:07show notes. Y'all have a going and I will talk
- 22:09to you next week. M
