Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, it's your person, sort of, Michelle, and I came back,
- 0:05Speaker 1: and I'm surprised that you're there. If you are, I
- 0:08Speaker 1: can't actually see or hear you, so I don't know
- 0:11Speaker 1: for sure. But if you are, and you came back
- 0:14Speaker 1: after me crying into the microphone last week, I didn't
- 0:20Speaker 1: expect you to, so thank you. But also, you know
- 0:23Speaker 1: you don't have to do this right. I would never
- 0:25Speaker 1: know if you listened again unless you tell me. So
- 0:28Speaker 1: if you want to leave, I get it, you can.
- 0:31Speaker 1: You can go all right bye. If you're still there.
- 0:36Speaker 1: We're going to talk about episode fourteen of Banana Fish today,
- 0:40Speaker 1: which starts the second core. So we are just a
- 0:44Speaker 1: little bit more than halfway through. Because there's twenty four episodes.
- 0:47Speaker 1: I don't think I have anything else to talk about
- 0:50Speaker 1: right now. I'm not recording this episode very long after
- 0:54Speaker 1: episode thirteen. I don't know why. I just had a
- 0:56Speaker 1: little bit more time this past week or however many
- 0:59Speaker 1: days it's been. So yeah, I mean, I can tell
- 1:03Speaker 1: you that Donda don is still going really well. Yay Dondadan,
- 1:06Speaker 1: But that's really all I got, So let's just get
- 1:10Speaker 1: into it. Before I start, I did want to say
- 1:12Speaker 1: that I've said this like multiple times before, but the dialogue,
- 1:17Speaker 1: like the translation in this episode is like not good
- 1:21Speaker 1: in a lot of spots. So if you're hearing stuff
- 1:25Speaker 1: that you've never heard before, it's coming from the manga
- 1:27Speaker 1: because it makes more sense. Basically, there are a couple
- 1:31Speaker 1: of spots where I may add things in from the manga,
- 1:33Speaker 1: but I'll stop before I do that and explain what
- 1:35Speaker 1: the hell's going on, because I don't know what it is.
- 1:37Speaker 1: But like the second half of the anime, we really
- 1:41Speaker 1: lose a lot of stuff, and most of that is okay.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Things are kind of rearranged in this episode and that's
- 1:47Speaker 1: fine or changed, but every once in a while there's
- 1:51Speaker 1: something that gets lost and I'm just like, man, now,
- 1:54Speaker 1: they're never gonna know this, so I want to tell
- 1:56Speaker 1: you about it when I find it, and hopefully you
- 1:59Speaker 1: won't be sad that you have to like listen to
- 2:02Speaker 1: me talk about things more. We'll see anyway, let's just
- 2:07Speaker 1: do it. Episode fourteen is called Tender is the Night,
- 2:12Speaker 1: which is also the name of a novel by F.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Scott FitzGeralds which has absolutely nothing to do with banana
- 2:19Speaker 1: fish as far as I can tell, which is fine. Also,
- 2:23Speaker 1: I think this is one of my least favorite episode titles.
- 2:27Speaker 1: I'm not really sure it works. It doesn't really not work,
- 2:31Speaker 1: but it also doesn't have any special significance, at least
- 2:35Speaker 1: in my opinion. And maybe you know what the significance is.
- 2:38Speaker 1: And you are like screaming into your whatever you listen
- 2:42Speaker 1: to this on and saying like, but it's totally talking
- 2:45Speaker 1: about that, but I don't know what it is. And
- 2:48Speaker 1: I can't hear you because I've recorded this, so like
- 2:51Speaker 1: you're technically in the future right now, but whatever, or
- 2:54Speaker 1: I'm in the past. It doesn't matter. But I don't
- 2:58Speaker 1: think it has a meaning, is what I'm trying to say.
- 3:00Speaker 1: So I'm sure you haven't forgotten where we ended last time,
- 3:03Speaker 1: because Ash had fallen onto the tracks after being stabbed
- 3:07Speaker 1: by Arthur, who he killed, and the cops arrived and
- 3:11Speaker 1: they took him away and Agy was arrested, so things
- 3:16Speaker 1: are bad. We start this episode with a shot of
- 3:21Speaker 1: the area by Coney Island and the elevated tracks, and
- 3:24Speaker 1: there's like police all around at police tape and police
- 3:26Speaker 1: cars and things with police going on, and then we
- 3:30Speaker 1: transition from that to what appears to be a Morgue
- 3:33Speaker 1: because there's like lots of dead guys in the room
- 3:37Speaker 1: on like you know, I guess it's like a stretcher
- 3:40Speaker 1: or a gurney, you know, big metal laying down bad things.
- 3:44Speaker 1: I don't know why this is so hard for me,
- 3:47Speaker 1: but there's a lot of dead guys on them, you know,
- 3:50Speaker 1: mostly covered, and we hear who I believe is Jenkins
- 3:54Speaker 1: say he killed them all by himself, and Charlie's like,
- 3:58Speaker 1: that's not humanly possible. Jenkins looks around and he sees
- 4:03Speaker 1: dead Arthur, who is partially kind of uncovered, like we
- 4:06Speaker 1: see his face, and he covers him back up with
- 4:11Speaker 1: the blankets, and he thinks, even if it was to
- 4:14Speaker 1: protect yourself, your claws and fangs are too sharp. Ash.
- 4:18Speaker 1: We then cut to Ash being wheeled down the hospital
- 4:22Speaker 1: hall on a gurney and his eyes are closed and
- 4:25Speaker 1: he looks like really pained because remember he's really really hurt,
- 4:29Speaker 1: and a doctor is saying, like, clear the way, emergency patient.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Then we are at the airport where Max and Shunci
- 4:37Speaker 1: are waiting for ag Max looks at his watch and
- 4:40Speaker 1: he says, what's taking Ash so long? He better or
- 4:43Speaker 1: not have changed his mind Shunichi's like, if he did,
- 4:47Speaker 1: it's okay with me. Max like what, and Shunici says,
- 4:53Speaker 1: to be honest, I'm still not sure off separating them
- 4:56Speaker 1: is the right thing to do. Yeah. I brought him
- 4:58Speaker 1: to the US to free him from Japan's stuffiness, and
- 5:01Speaker 1: he really livened up. We see some shots of Ag
- 5:04Speaker 1: and then some shots of Ag and ash and he continues,
- 5:08Speaker 1: especially when he met ash. Ah. They're from different countries, races, backgrounds,
- 5:14Speaker 1: and yet they were able to build a really important
- 5:16Speaker 1: friendship with each other. And here I am separating them.
- 5:20Speaker 1: I don't know if it's a friendship. But okay, I'm
- 5:22Speaker 1: trying to keep him from being hurt, but I might
- 5:25Speaker 1: actually be hurting him in the process. Max is like,
- 5:28Speaker 1: I totally get you, but things have gone way too far.
- 5:31Speaker 1: There's a TV somewhere in the airport and we hear,
- 5:36Speaker 1: I guess a newscaster saying a street gang riot broke
- 5:38Speaker 1: out this morning. They both turn and they look the
- 5:41Speaker 1: screen and we see that the headline on the TV
- 5:44Speaker 1: is confusion and panic. Continue when the wake up gang
- 5:47Speaker 1: violence on Coney Island. Oh, and it looks like it's
- 5:49Speaker 1: nine thirty four in the morning, So I think, who
- 5:52Speaker 1: is that? Like Bone said the flight was at eight ten.
- 5:55Speaker 1: I guess he was wrong. So the newscaster is like,
- 5:58Speaker 1: it's been suppressed by the police, but the area is
- 6:00Speaker 1: still in a state of panic. Max and Shoonici run
- 6:03Speaker 1: to get closer to the TV so they can hear
- 6:04Speaker 1: it better, and the newscaster continues it's believed that the
- 6:08Speaker 1: incident was caused by two opposing gang leaders. Max gasps
- 6:12Speaker 1: and he's like, we have to go back. Shoonichi Ag
- 6:15Speaker 1: isn't coming, and he starts to walk off, and Shoonnici's
- 6:18Speaker 1: like what and Max says, I think he's with Ash.
- 6:23Speaker 1: He fought it out with Arthur. Well, at least he
- 6:25Speaker 1: figured it out. Max thinks about how Ash like asked
- 6:28Speaker 1: him if he was going to continue working on the
- 6:29Speaker 1: banana fish thing even if he died, and he's like
- 6:34Speaker 1: he was acting strange. He grits his teeth and he's like,
- 6:36Speaker 1: goddamn it, why didn't I realize. Then he then lifts
- 6:41Speaker 1: his phone to his ear and he's like, Charlie, it's me.
- 6:44Speaker 1: I guess he probably dialed too, And then we go
- 6:47Speaker 1: the opening theme. It's new Yay. So this opening theme
- 6:53Speaker 1: is new, like I just said ten seconds ago, and
- 6:55Speaker 1: it is called Freedom, and it is by blue Encount
- 7:00Speaker 1: maybe in count blue Encount, who I don't know who
- 7:03Speaker 1: they are. This is I think the only song I've
- 7:04Speaker 1: ever heard from them before. It is okay. I'd say
- 7:09Speaker 1: about seventy five percent of it's in English, and it's
- 7:12Speaker 1: an okay English. It's not perfect. It's not as good
- 7:16Speaker 1: as like Survive said. The prophet did speak in English,
- 7:20Speaker 1: but I do understand what they're saying. It's not like
- 7:22Speaker 1: terrible or anything. But besides that, the new opening is
- 7:26Speaker 1: like real, real Showjo. Like we're seeing the characters. There's
- 7:32Speaker 1: like wind, there were like some feathers blowing for some reason.
- 7:36Speaker 1: So this is like if you showed me this opening
- 7:39Speaker 1: and I didn't have any context for the show, I
- 7:41Speaker 1: would just be like showjo, which I didn't get with
- 7:45Speaker 1: opening one or ending one really, so it's totally fine.
- 7:50Speaker 1: I was just like, whoa, there it is. But yeah,
- 7:54Speaker 1: there's a lot of things in the new opening that
- 7:56Speaker 1: are really cool that we just can't talk about because
- 7:59Speaker 1: they're all import and spoilers, so we're just not But
- 8:03Speaker 1: it's a pretty good opening. So continuing right along, we
- 8:08Speaker 1: are looking at the light over and operating table, and
- 8:12Speaker 1: a doctor says, pulse sixty one, blood pressure seventy five
- 8:16Speaker 1: over forty two. Wow, that's really low. And there are
- 8:19Speaker 1: a lot of doctors like incircling Ash who was on
- 8:21Speaker 1: the table, and another doctor says he's lost a lot
- 8:24Speaker 1: of blood. A ligature on the abdominal a order scalpel.
- 8:28Speaker 1: I don't know, guys, I fairly understand anything. Then we
- 8:32Speaker 1: see this like terrifyingly lit Agy, like on a black background,
- 8:38Speaker 1: and he's smiling really blankly, and we hear Ash say,
- 8:43Speaker 1: don't look at me like that. Oh. And at this
- 8:47Speaker 1: point a cut spreads across Agy's neck and he starts
- 8:52Speaker 1: to morph into Shorter, and Ash, whose voice is shaking now, says,
- 8:57Speaker 1: stop looking at me like that. I Shorter's body drops
- 9:01Speaker 1: to the floor, and we see that AG's body is
- 9:04Speaker 1: also on the floor. Ash realizes that he is holding
- 9:08Speaker 1: a bloody knife, and he looks down at what he's
- 9:11Speaker 1: done and he screams and collapses onto his knees. This
- 9:14Speaker 1: is all anime original, by the way, and he says,
- 9:18Speaker 1: I'm a murderer. I kill people. Outside of his dream nightmare,
- 9:25Speaker 1: we see Ash real Ash lying on the table and
- 9:29Speaker 1: tears start to form in the corner of his eyes,
- 9:32Speaker 1: and he very quietly says AG, which kills me. We
- 9:37Speaker 1: now go to a holding cell at I guess a
- 9:40Speaker 1: police station, and there's like a lot of the gang
- 9:43Speaker 1: members in it and stuff, and Ag is sitting alone
- 9:46Speaker 1: against the back of the wall, hugging his knees. Yeah,
- 9:50Speaker 1: I don't want AG to be in jail, And he
- 9:52Speaker 1: thinks of Ash saying I don't want you seeing me
- 9:54Speaker 1: like this, and he looks so sad and he thinks,
- 9:59Speaker 1: I wonder what he meant by that. He shakes his
- 10:02Speaker 1: head and buries it in his knees. I can't waste
- 10:04Speaker 1: my time just sitting here. I have to go be
- 10:07Speaker 1: by his side. I'll pause here because I like really
- 10:12Speaker 1: need to say this. So I fucking love that Ash
- 10:18Speaker 1: is like he's gonna think horrible things about me and
- 10:20Speaker 1: Age like he doesn't even understand what Ash means by
- 10:25Speaker 1: I didn't want you to see me like that, Like,
- 10:27Speaker 1: like because he already knows everything, and he isn't seeing
- 10:34Speaker 1: Ash as stereotype or you know, just a portion of
- 10:40Speaker 1: himself or a front that he is using to survive
- 10:45Speaker 1: in the world. He's seeing Ash as a full person,
- 10:48Speaker 1: and he already knows all of this stuff, and it's
- 10:51Speaker 1: not like it's not gonna change how he feels because
- 10:54Speaker 1: he already knows is like, so he doesn't even understand
- 10:58Speaker 1: what Ash would mean by I I didn't want you
- 11:00Speaker 1: seeing me like this? Like like what? So I fucking
- 11:03Speaker 1: love that and I love that. That's the resolution to
- 11:06Speaker 1: Ash in the last episode, being so upset seeing Ag
- 11:10Speaker 1: and feeling like Agi will never want to see him again.
- 11:12Speaker 1: So anyway, let's continue. Now We're in a hospital hallway
- 11:16Speaker 1: and Charlie is like standing there and Max and Shunci
- 11:19Speaker 1: run over and Max is like, Charlie, how's Ash? Will
- 11:23Speaker 1: he make it? And Charlie says, the doctor says he's
- 11:26Speaker 1: got a fifty percent chance of recovery. Shu Neci gasps
- 11:29Speaker 1: and Max is like, you've gotta be kidding, and she
- 11:32Speaker 1: Neci says and Chan Charlie shakes his head and he's like,
- 11:37Speaker 1: we're searching for him, but everything's still a mess out there.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Then we hear Jenkins say Max. Max flinches and Jenkins
- 11:44Speaker 1: walks over and he's like, you idiot, running off when
- 11:47Speaker 1: you're on bail like that, Max is like, Captain, I uh.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Jenks is like, it's fine, that can wait. The operation's over,
- 11:55Speaker 1: Max and she Needi gasp. And we see someone holding
- 11:59Speaker 1: Ash's charts, which has some information about him on it,
- 12:02Speaker 1: like they do, but it also has his social security number,
- 12:06Speaker 1: which is not in the right format for a social
- 12:08Speaker 1: security number, like at all, it's not a social security number.
- 12:12Speaker 1: And also I don't think Ash knows his social security number,
- 12:16Speaker 1: like I would bet money that he doesn't know it,
- 12:19Speaker 1: and the hospital wouldn't know it either. But hey, that's
- 12:24Speaker 1: not a Kimi Yoshida's fault. That's not in the manga.
- 12:26Speaker 1: So whoever did this, like you should have skipped that.
- 12:30Speaker 1: But it's okay. So the doctor holding the information says
- 12:35Speaker 1: the knife reached his peratonium and punctured his abdominal aorta.
- 12:39Speaker 1: The peritonium is the serious membrane forming the lining of
- 12:44Speaker 1: the abdominal cavity, by the way I looked it up. Anyway,
- 12:47Speaker 1: he continues, any normal person would have died of blood loss.
- 12:50Speaker 1: He's a wiry kid, but he's stronger than he looks.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Max is like, so he's gonna make it. At this point,
- 12:58Speaker 1: other doctors start to wheel Ash out of the operating
- 13:00Speaker 1: room and they pass him and you know, he actually
- 13:04Speaker 1: looks relatively peaceful, which is nice for him, and the
- 13:08Speaker 1: doctor continues, if he's strong enough, he'll pull through. Next,
- 13:12Speaker 1: we go to Kin, who is in a holding cell
- 13:14Speaker 1: and he looks over at Sing, who is standing next
- 13:16Speaker 1: to him, and he says, worried about ash. Sing looks
- 13:20Speaker 1: up and he looks a little bit pissed off at
- 13:22Speaker 1: the assertion, and Kin is like, don't worry. They didn't
- 13:25Speaker 1: get him. Arthur's not strong enough. No, no one's strong enough.
- 13:29Speaker 1: The only way he'll dies if he brings it on himself,
- 13:32Speaker 1: like suicide. Then a police officer walks over with a
- 13:35Speaker 1: clipboard and he's like, Sing, Su Ling, where are you?
- 13:39Speaker 1: Sing walks to the bars and he's like, that's me.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Police officer starts to open the door and he says,
- 13:44Speaker 1: get out, you're free. Sing looks totally confused and he's
- 13:47Speaker 1: starting to walk down the hall and he asked the
- 13:49Speaker 1: police officer like, what about my guys. And then as
- 13:53Speaker 1: they're approaching another holding cell, a second police officer says
- 13:56Speaker 1: aig Okamura out, Sing gasps and ag He walks out
- 14:00Speaker 1: of the cell, and that second police officer says, okay,
- 14:05Speaker 1: you two follow me. As they're walking down the hall,
- 14:08Speaker 1: Sing looks over at Ag, who is just looking at
- 14:11Speaker 1: the ground because he's super upset obviously, and Sing says,
- 14:15Speaker 1: haven't seen you around before? What gang you in? Ag
- 14:19Speaker 1: looks over at him finally and says, I'm Japanese Ash's
- 14:23Speaker 1: friend and sings like Ashes. They walk out of the
- 14:28Speaker 1: station and there's a car parked at the curb, and
- 14:31Speaker 1: this dude opens the door to it and inside is
- 14:34Speaker 1: yue Lung. Oh that makes sense, actually, yue Lung says,
- 14:39Speaker 1: how disappointing. Sing Suling sings like, so it was you.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Ag Gasp says like two guys grab him and he's like,
- 14:48Speaker 1: what are you doing? Let me go, and he kind
- 14:51Speaker 1: of goes off screen with the dudes, but we hear
- 14:53Speaker 1: him struggling and what it sounds like being like shoved
- 14:56Speaker 1: into a car. Sing to yue Lung says who is he?
- 15:01Speaker 1: And Uelung's like, I'll explain later. Get in. So now
- 15:05Speaker 1: they're driving, Uelung says, I told you to leave Ash alone.
- 15:10Speaker 1: I can understand how you can't help but idolize him,
- 15:13Speaker 1: but I can't have you causing me even more trouble,
- 15:16Speaker 1: and Sing's like, I don't idolize him. Uelung says, admit it.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Idolization and rebellion though quite a conflict you have there,
- 15:25Speaker 1: Sing kind of like mumps and he turns away, kind
- 15:28Speaker 1: of blushing, and he's like, whatever, Hey, you're not gonna
- 15:32Speaker 1: leave my guys in there, are you u It. Lungs like,
- 15:36Speaker 1: don't worry, I'll have them released soon, and Sing says,
- 15:39Speaker 1: then could you get a guy named Caine Blood released too?
- 15:44Speaker 1: Uelung's like an acquaintance, Sing says, I guess We cut
- 15:49Speaker 1: to Sing and Yue Lung walking out of like an
- 15:52Speaker 1: elevator into I don't know where it is. Maybe it's
- 15:55Speaker 1: like a penthouse or something. It's a place that looks
- 15:58Speaker 1: kind of fancy, and there there are three guys there
- 16:01Speaker 1: and they say like, welcome home, master or whatever, and
- 16:04Speaker 1: Yue Lung says, lock that Japanese boy up, but treat
- 16:07Speaker 1: him well. The guy in the elevator says very well.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Yue Lung and Sing proceed to start to walk down
- 16:13Speaker 1: the hallway, and as they do, a door opens at
- 16:16Speaker 1: the ends of the hall and a very like druly
- 16:21Speaker 1: hunched over Hua Lung walks out of the room and
- 16:25Speaker 1: like looks at them with like the deadest eyes. Sing
- 16:30Speaker 1: looks freaked out me too. Yue Lung says, big brother,
- 16:35Speaker 1: you mustn't leave your room. Hua Lung just kind of
- 16:39Speaker 1: makes some nonsensical noises. Yue Lung embraces him and says,
- 16:45Speaker 1: be a good boy and go back to your room.
- 16:47Speaker 1: And then he turns to Sing and says, my big
- 16:50Speaker 1: brother is sick. Sings like sick. It's more like he's
- 16:55Speaker 1: and Yuelun cuts him off. An entirely different person, not
- 17:01Speaker 1: like the arrogant, ambitious Lee. Huhile Lung that you know,
- 17:05Speaker 1: that's right, He's just a marionette. Now what the fuck? Dude?
- 17:09Speaker 1: Sing looked horrified. Ue Lung continues, what's wrong? You hated him? Right?
- 17:15Speaker 1: Guess what so did I? Oh? No, I mean we
- 17:20Speaker 1: knew he hated him. U a Lung just starts to laugh,
- 17:23Speaker 1: and Sing just continues to stare at him in horror.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Now we go to Max, who is looking through a
- 17:29Speaker 1: window like super concerned, and then we see that like
- 17:31Speaker 1: he's looking into the room that Ash is in. Ash
- 17:35Speaker 1: is still unconscious and he's on a respirator and we
- 17:40Speaker 1: hear him think, what's that noise. He's talking about the
- 17:44Speaker 1: beeping sound. I guess. We quickly cut into his point
- 17:48Speaker 1: of view, which is like kind of slightly out of focus. He's,
- 17:53Speaker 1: I guess, going in and out of consciousness right now.
- 17:56Speaker 1: And he thinks where am I? I can't move, My
- 18:00Speaker 1: limbs feel like lead. He thinks about killing Arthur, and
- 18:04Speaker 1: he thinks about AG's reaction again. He closes his eyes
- 18:08Speaker 1: like tightly, and he takes a sharp breath, and the
- 18:12Speaker 1: background fades to black, and it's just him in the
- 18:15Speaker 1: hospital bed and nothingness, and he thinks, am I dying?
- 18:22Speaker 1: How peaceful and quiet it is? Like all that pain
- 18:27Speaker 1: never happened. A bony hand from a cloaked figure reaches
- 18:33Speaker 1: out towards him, as another skeletal hand cradles the back
- 18:36Speaker 1: of his head. Gently. He continues, sadness, happiness, everything, Death
- 18:43Speaker 1: gently strips them away. Oh god, ash. We see Ag
- 18:48Speaker 1: now sitting alone in a room on a bed, and
- 18:51Speaker 1: he hears the door open and he looks up and
- 18:53Speaker 1: of course it's yue Lung. Ag stands and yue Lung says,
- 18:58Speaker 1: no need to glare, I'm not here, Echu. AG's like,
- 19:01Speaker 1: why did you lock me up in here. I have
- 19:04Speaker 1: to go right now. Uelung kind of shrugs, and he's like,
- 19:09Speaker 1: there's nothing you can do to help Ash. Ag gasps,
- 19:13Speaker 1: you know. Uelung's like, of course, the operation went well.
- 19:17Speaker 1: He's in good hands. Ag drops back down to the
- 19:20Speaker 1: bed and he's like, thank god. Yue Lung says, but
- 19:25Speaker 1: I do have bad news too. Gouldiane's coming back. Ag
- 19:29Speaker 1: looks surprised, and Uelung continues, obviously he must already know
- 19:34Speaker 1: what happened and how Ash is severely hurt in bedridden.
- 19:38Speaker 1: I can just imagine the filthy old man licking his
- 19:40Speaker 1: lips upon hearing the news. AG stands again and starts
- 19:45Speaker 1: to walk towards Uelong. Uelung's like, where are you going?
- 19:49Speaker 1: Ag says, I'm leaving, and he walks past him. Yuelung says,
- 19:54Speaker 1: and what can you do to help him? Exactly? Ag
- 19:58Speaker 1: freezes and turns back. Continues, A friend, what a joke
- 20:03Speaker 1: you think of yourself so highly that you'd compare yourself
- 20:06Speaker 1: to the peerless Ash links. Ag just has this horridly
- 20:10Speaker 1: hurt look on his face, and yue Lung says he
- 20:14Speaker 1: has no need for friends. Ash is a wild beast,
- 20:17Speaker 1: a beautiful beast. Free and uncontrollable. All he needs is
- 20:22Speaker 1: those who idolize him and those like Arthur who defy him.
- 20:25Speaker 1: He doesn't need anyone else, especially not you, who's only
- 20:28Speaker 1: a burden to him. Are you really too stupid to
- 20:32Speaker 1: realize that? Ag still looks pretty hurt and maybe a
- 20:37Speaker 1: little bit confused now too, Yue Lung says, what's wrong?
- 20:43Speaker 1: Why are you making that face? AG's expression kind of
- 20:46Speaker 1: calms slightly, and he says, I tend to get made
- 20:50Speaker 1: fun of by people younger than me, same Ag, but
- 20:54Speaker 1: this is the first time someone's been openly hostile towards me.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Fuck yeah, Ag, Yoe Lung says, you really irritate me.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Seems like you make people feel either one of two ways.
- 21:07Speaker 1: You make people like Ash want to protect you, or
- 21:09Speaker 1: you make them want to tear you apart and crush
- 21:11Speaker 1: you too bad. I seem to be the latter type.
- 21:14Speaker 1: There's such a thing as visceral hatred. But I'm sure
- 21:17Speaker 1: you have an a clue what I'm talking about. So
- 21:21Speaker 1: what to do with you now? Ash is awake now
- 21:25Speaker 1: in the hospital bed, and he's looking out the window.
- 21:28Speaker 1: He hears the door open and looks over and sees
- 21:30Speaker 1: Charlie and Jenkins yay. Jenkins says, hey, how are you feeling?
- 21:36Speaker 1: And Ash is like, still can't die? Huh. Jenkins says,
- 21:40Speaker 1: don't say that it's good that you're alive. Ash is like,
- 21:44Speaker 1: I wouldn't be so sure. Yeah, me too. Jenkins says,
- 21:48Speaker 1: you understand what you did right. You're eighteen now, you're
- 21:52Speaker 1: not a child anymore. Just so you guys know, we
- 21:55Speaker 1: may have talked about this once in episode two. Ash's
- 21:58Speaker 1: birthday is in August. It's August thirteenth, So he's actually
- 22:02Speaker 1: been an adults because this has got to be happening
- 22:04Speaker 1: in November at the earliest, because that's when he was
- 22:08Speaker 1: stabbed on November first, So he's actually been an adult
- 22:12Speaker 1: for a while now. But yes, he is eighteen anyway.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Ash says, I've ignored the law all my life. I'm
- 22:20Speaker 1: not gonna ask it to protect me now. Fuck super
- 22:23Speaker 1: fucking honest, and Jenkins is just like, I see. Jenkins
- 22:28Speaker 1: and Charlie are in the hall now, and Charlie says,
- 22:32Speaker 1: it's hard to believe those words came from someone who
- 22:34Speaker 1: just fought their way back from the grave. Jenkins sighs,
- 22:38Speaker 1: and he's like he was sexually assaulted when he was
- 22:42Speaker 1: only eight years old. It's no wonder he doesn't believe
- 22:45Speaker 1: in the judicial system. You know, there's only a fine
- 22:48Speaker 1: line between criminals and victims. It's kind of heartbreaking. Back
- 22:52Speaker 1: in Ash's room, he kind of tries to move and
- 22:56Speaker 1: he just winces in pain. He grabs his side and
- 22:59Speaker 1: he's like, damn Hammets. He thinks about AG's shocked face again,
- 23:04Speaker 1: and he thinks he didn't go back to Japan. He
- 23:07Speaker 1: closes his eyes and sees Arthur's dead body, and then
- 23:11Speaker 1: he exhales and puts his hand over his eyes. We
- 23:14Speaker 1: hear the door open and a woman saying, excuse me,
- 23:18Speaker 1: mister policeman. Ash looks over and there's a brown haired
- 23:23Speaker 1: nurse standing there and she's like hi, And then a
- 23:27Speaker 1: second nurse like pops up out it nowhere. We have
- 23:29Speaker 1: a pretty close shot, so they're probably not really popping
- 23:32Speaker 1: up out of nowhere, but it certainly looks like that.
- 23:34Speaker 1: So the second nurse is like, how are you feeling,
- 23:37Speaker 1: And the third nurse, who also was just there now
- 23:39Speaker 1: says we're gonna be in charge of taking care of you.
- 23:43Speaker 1: They are all both two things, which is kind of
- 23:45Speaker 1: young and incredibly pretty, and also seem like they're kind
- 23:49Speaker 1: of annoyed that they're not the only nurse there at
- 23:52Speaker 1: the moment. At this point, a fourth nurse appears as well,
- 23:56Speaker 1: and they all have like different colored hair. They're all
- 23:58Speaker 1: kind of different body attractiveness types. But I mean they're
- 24:02Speaker 1: all thin, you know, but it's a wide representation of
- 24:05Speaker 1: a white nurse's like one of them has short brown hair,
- 24:07Speaker 1: one of them is long red hair. You know that
- 24:10Speaker 1: kind of thing, is what I'm trying to say. And
- 24:13Speaker 1: they all at the same time say nice to meet you.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Ash is confused and he just says yeah. They also
- 24:22Speaker 1: are all blushing, by the way, which is not great.
- 24:27Speaker 1: And the first nurse says and we've already decided to
- 24:31Speaker 1: take turns, and the fourth nurse is like, so let
- 24:34Speaker 1: us know when okay. Ash is sweating at this point,
- 24:37Speaker 1: and he's just like what And the second nurse goes,
- 24:41Speaker 1: you know this, and she like shows him a male
- 24:45Speaker 1: kind of urinal bedpand thing, and then we cut to
- 24:48Speaker 1: Ash looking super flustered, going keep them away from me.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Charlie and Jenkins are just kind of like super confused
- 24:55Speaker 1: at this point. They won't let me take a piss alone.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Ash is blushing. Now, this isn't club urinals are not
- 25:01Speaker 1: for their entertainments. Yeah, I feel so bad for him
- 25:05Speaker 1: because like, yeah, I would be. I don't think I
- 25:09Speaker 1: could take it either. In the manga, he even says like,
- 25:13Speaker 1: can you just send me back to jail? That would
- 25:16Speaker 1: be better. Please just anything, just keep them away from me. So, yeah,
- 25:21Speaker 1: poor Ash, He's just not the right person to have
- 25:24Speaker 1: to deal with. Being hit on by weird attractive nurses
- 25:30Speaker 1: is like the worst, Like, I totally understand. Anyway, there's
- 25:34Speaker 1: a knock on the door and we hear someone say
- 25:37Speaker 1: Captain Jenkins gets up and he says, excuse me. Ash
- 25:43Speaker 1: lays his head on the pillow like super annoyed still,
- 25:46Speaker 1: and Charlie's like it's not easy being attractive, huh, and
- 25:49Speaker 1: he does literally say be shown in By the way.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Ash is not going to entertain this, and he says
- 25:57Speaker 1: did you meet with ag? Did he come here? And
- 25:59Speaker 1: Charlie like, uh right, Ag, only lawyers are allowed to
- 26:04Speaker 1: meet with you now, and Ash just like hmm, yeah,
- 26:09Speaker 1: First of all, Charlie is a terrible liar. Second of all,
- 26:13Speaker 1: I mean he definitely can't tell Ash that Ag is
- 26:16Speaker 1: missing because ashe will just get up and go find him.
- 26:19Speaker 1: I understand that, but he may be leading Ash to
- 26:22Speaker 1: believe that AG doesn't want to see him, which isn't
- 26:25Speaker 1: like great. So you know. Anyway, Jenkins comes back and
- 26:29Speaker 1: he's got this brown hair dude in a suit and
- 26:31Speaker 1: glasses with him, and Jenkins says, this is mister Helper
- 26:35Speaker 1: from the District Attorney's office. We then cut to a
- 26:39Speaker 1: paper with the words intelligence psychological test on it and
- 26:43Speaker 1: Ash says, an intelligence test. Mister Helper, who was smiling
- 26:47Speaker 1: very politely, says it's just a formality. It doesn't actually
- 26:51Speaker 1: mean anything. Ash smirks, and he's like, so you want
- 26:56Speaker 1: to know if I'm a case for the Journals or
- 26:57Speaker 1: just your run of the Millwaco huh. Laughs and he's like,
- 27:01Speaker 1: you're so funny. But no one else is abused besides him. Now,
- 27:06Speaker 1: before we continue on to this next scene, I want
- 27:08Speaker 1: to tell you that they cut out something from the
- 27:10Speaker 1: manga that like really is necessary for the joke in
- 27:14Speaker 1: the next scene. In my opinion, at least, it's a
- 27:17Speaker 1: better setup than what we had from there. So in
- 27:20Speaker 1: the manga. In the next part of this scene, doctor
- 27:23Speaker 1: Helper asks Ash if he can read, and Ash is
- 27:27Speaker 1: just like what and he says, you know, like do
- 27:31Speaker 1: you like know letters and numbers? And Ash is just like,
- 27:35Speaker 1: I think I can manage. And he says, okay, but
- 27:39Speaker 1: if there's anything you're confused about, like let me know.
- 27:41Speaker 1: And he's trying to be super nice about this, but
- 27:44Speaker 1: like it's a little bit insulting, but also like he
- 27:49Speaker 1: doesn't know that Ash isn't a typical delinquent. Not that
- 27:53Speaker 1: I think typical delinquents can't read, but you know, you
- 27:57Speaker 1: don't want to present somebody with stuff that's going to
- 27:59Speaker 1: be super hard for them without giving them the out
- 28:03Speaker 1: to say like, oh I can't read, you know, Like
- 28:06Speaker 1: he was trying to do a good job, but he
- 28:08Speaker 1: made things weird anyway. Ash is looking at a piece
- 28:13Speaker 1: of paper with I guess a question on it, and
- 28:15Speaker 1: he kind of spins his pen and then he kind
- 28:19Speaker 1: of points towards mister Helper. We had some really nice
- 28:21Speaker 1: pen animation there for a second, and he says, I
- 28:25Speaker 1: have a question. Helper stands up and he walks over
- 28:30Speaker 1: and he says, is there a word you can't read?
- 28:33Speaker 1: Ash points to the paper and he's like no, it's
- 28:36Speaker 1: this problem. Helper takes the paper from him and he
- 28:40Speaker 1: looks at it and he thinks advanced mathematics. And Ash
- 28:44Speaker 1: has this expression on his face that I like don't
- 28:46Speaker 1: really know how to describe. It's kind of a smirk
- 28:49Speaker 1: sort of but like half fake concern, like he's trying
- 28:54Speaker 1: to act but he kind of can't be totally serious
- 28:57Speaker 1: because he thinks it's so funny, I think, And he says,
- 29:02Speaker 1: I think it's supposed to be asking about the Fibonacci sequence,
- 29:06Speaker 1: but if so, there should be a five after the three.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Mister Helper like stares at the paper, looking kind of stressed,
- 29:16Speaker 1: and we see like math symbols like whizzing past him
- 29:19Speaker 1: and stuff because he doesn't know what's going on. And
- 29:23Speaker 1: then we have this part where Ash explains what he's
- 29:26Speaker 1: talking about, and it kind of like speeds up to
- 29:28Speaker 1: the point that we can't understand it anymore because we're
- 29:30Speaker 1: kind of understanding this, I guess from mister Helper's point
- 29:33Speaker 1: of view, where he just has no idea what Ash
- 29:36Speaker 1: is talking about. So I'm just gonna give it you
- 29:38Speaker 1: from the manga so you can clearly understand it, because
- 29:41Speaker 1: I was confused so anyway, Ash says, so, I assume
- 29:47Speaker 1: there would be a formula that would generate an arbitrary value,
- 29:50Speaker 1: and I got function of X equals a four or five, one, seven,
- 29:55Speaker 1: nine six expected. Oh man, I don't even know what
- 30:00Speaker 1: this means zero point four eight, five one two squared.
- 30:06Speaker 1: But this, of course is an approximate formula, gradually giving
- 30:09Speaker 1: rise to an error as the value of X increases.
- 30:11Speaker 1: So I got all confused. We got to Charlie and Jenkins,
- 30:15Speaker 1: who are looking really unamused because you know, Ash continues
- 30:20Speaker 1: level with me, mister Helper, is it possible there's a
- 30:23Speaker 1: typo here? Or is this a new theoretical approach that
- 30:27Speaker 1: I'm unfamiliar with. You gotta understand I never even made
- 30:31Speaker 1: it through elementary school. Mister Helper is trying, like really
- 30:35Speaker 1: hard to maintain his customer service smile, and he's just like,
- 30:39Speaker 1: you actually didn't need to go that far, and this,
- 30:43Speaker 1: of course is not amusing to ask. She looks kind
- 30:46Speaker 1: of pissed, and mister Helper's like, okay, let's just move
- 30:50Speaker 1: on to the next test. What does this look like?
- 30:53Speaker 1: He shows him like a really weird looking ink plot,
- 30:56Speaker 1: and Ash is just like your wife and yeah. Then
- 31:03Speaker 1: we go to a print out of his IQ analysis
- 31:06Speaker 1: and we hear a voice say an IQ of one
- 31:10Speaker 1: hundred and eighty. Huh, I remember that boy one eighty.
- 31:15Speaker 1: So we cut back and we see that it's Senator
- 31:18Speaker 1: Kippard with this print out, and Kippird, who is still
- 31:21Speaker 1: looking at the chart, says that shrud old Man had
- 31:24Speaker 1: him priced at twenty thousand dollars a night. What I
- 31:29Speaker 1: actually thought maybe there was a mis translation there, but
- 31:32Speaker 1: I hear him saying nemon, which is twenty thousand in
- 31:35Speaker 1: the manga. It was two thousand dollars a night, which
- 31:37Speaker 1: sounds more reasonable, and I almost looked up how much
- 31:40Speaker 1: would you pay for a high end prostitute on Google?
- 31:42Speaker 1: And I was just like, I don't It's okay, but
- 31:45Speaker 1: twenty thousand dollars for real. Colonel Holstock is also there,
- 31:49Speaker 1: also looking at a copy, and he's like, he was
- 31:52Speaker 1: already Goldie's pet by then. He probably just didn't want
- 31:54Speaker 1: to share him with anyone, but he really screwed up
- 31:57Speaker 1: this time. And we cut back a little bit further
- 32:00Speaker 1: and see that Arthur Smiles is also there, and Kipbard
- 32:03Speaker 1: is like, so, what's gonna happen to this project. Now,
- 32:07Speaker 1: I've invested too much time and money for it to
- 32:09Speaker 1: go to waste. Smile says, don't worry, this matter won't
- 32:12Speaker 1: affect the project. Kipberd's like, anyway, we must get rid
- 32:17Speaker 1: of this boy, and Smiles is like Golzing wanted us
- 32:20Speaker 1: to hand over him alive. Kipbard says, we can't risk
- 32:24Speaker 1: keeping him alive. This boy could be the end of me,
- 32:27Speaker 1: the end of all of us. We now cut to
- 32:30Speaker 1: some very shapely, definitely woman's legs walking down the hospital
- 32:34Speaker 1: hallway and we hear Kippard say, poor kid, he could
- 32:40Speaker 1: have lived a little longer if he was just pretty
- 32:41Speaker 1: and brainless. We see that the legs are now attached
- 32:46Speaker 1: to a nurse, obviously, and the nurse says hello to
- 32:50Speaker 1: the guard. And then we cut to Ash in bed
- 32:53Speaker 1: and we hear the door open. The nurse puts down
- 32:57Speaker 1: like a tray on this dresser table thing and takes
- 33:00Speaker 1: a syringe and starts to like inject something into the
- 33:06Speaker 1: line for the IV bag that is connected to Ash.
- 33:11Speaker 1: And Ash, who had been turned away and we did
- 33:13Speaker 1: not know was awake, says what happened to Sally? The
- 33:17Speaker 1: nurse jumps slightly and she looks over and she's like, oh,
- 33:19Speaker 1: you're awake. This is not one of the four nurses
- 33:22Speaker 1: that we met that was freaking out Ash. Anyway, Ash's like,
- 33:27Speaker 1: this is supposed to be Sally's shift. Who are you?
- 33:29Speaker 1: The nurse says, Sally's busy right now, so I'm helping
- 33:32Speaker 1: out and Ash is like, and what's that? The nurse says,
- 33:37Speaker 1: why do you ask? And Ash is like, you can't
- 33:39Speaker 1: answer my question, and then out of nowhere, the nurse
- 33:43Speaker 1: just lunges at him with the syringe, like trying to
- 33:46Speaker 1: stab him with it. Ash manages to dodge, and he
- 33:49Speaker 1: throws the ivy like standing at her, and we cut
- 33:52Speaker 1: really quickly to the guard outside as he hears this
- 33:55Speaker 1: commotion happening, and then back to Ash who is behind
- 33:58Speaker 1: the bed, and he pushes the whole bed at her,
- 34:00Speaker 1: like trying to push her back, and she shoots at him.
- 34:04Speaker 1: The guard, hearing all this, enters and he's like what
- 34:06Speaker 1: the and Ash says, stand back, but he doesn't, and
- 34:09Speaker 1: the nurse turns and shoots the guard down. Fuck. Ash
- 34:14Speaker 1: jumps over the bed and tackles her, so he has
- 34:16Speaker 1: like one arm like on her neck and then the
- 34:19Speaker 1: other one like on the arm with the gun like
- 34:22Speaker 1: holding it back so she can't shoot, and he's like,
- 34:25Speaker 1: who send you? I'll break your neck. The nurse doesn't
- 34:28Speaker 1: say anything. She closes her eyes and she appears to
- 34:30Speaker 1: bite down on something, and then she goes limp and
- 34:34Speaker 1: Ash things, oh no, poison. Blood starts to come out
- 34:38Speaker 1: of the nurse's mouth as she's laying on the floor.
- 34:41Speaker 1: Now she's dead. Charlie appears in the doorway with his
- 34:45Speaker 1: gun raised and Max is like right behind him, and
- 34:47Speaker 1: he looks like really really shocked, of course, and Ashes like,
- 34:51Speaker 1: she just attacked me. She shot the cop and killed herself.
- 34:57Speaker 1: We cut to several minutes later. I assume there's police
- 35:01Speaker 1: tape in the hall and cops are like taking people statements.
- 35:04Speaker 1: Max is just kind of standing there like watching all
- 35:07Speaker 1: of this, and Ash walks up to him and says,
- 35:10Speaker 1: what's up, old man? Max Is like, how'd you know
- 35:14Speaker 1: she wasn't a nurse? Ash smirks, and he says the
- 35:18Speaker 1: smell Max is like her perfume or something. Ash says,
- 35:23Speaker 1: the lack thereof. Actually, the first rule of assassination is
- 35:27Speaker 1: never leave behind any trace. But that's what cost her life.
- 35:30Speaker 1: In this case, there's no such thing as a nurse
- 35:32Speaker 1: that doesn't smell like antiseptics. Why do you know about
- 35:35Speaker 1: the first rule of assassination? Ash? Max says, I see,
- 35:42Speaker 1: and he looks down and realizes that Ash is bleeding
- 35:45Speaker 1: onto the floor and he gasps as Ash collapses, and
- 35:50Speaker 1: he's like Ash and he catches him, Thank God. Then
- 35:53Speaker 1: we see that where he's holding Ash up is just
- 35:57Speaker 1: covered in blood and Ash like he's in a terrible
- 36:01Speaker 1: amount of pain. Max thinks this is bad. I can't
- 36:05Speaker 1: leave him here. We got back to Senator Kippard, who
- 36:08Speaker 1: sets down a cup of either coffee or tea and
- 36:11Speaker 1: says that little Punk is causing us too much trouble.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Some guy who I don't know, says Doctor Mannerheim has
- 36:18Speaker 1: offered to take him off our hands. He's interested in him.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Kibberd smiles and he's like, fine, he can have him.
- 36:26Speaker 1: Next we see Charlie and Jenkins looking freaked out, and
- 36:31Speaker 1: we hear someone say good work, Captain. There are two
- 36:34Speaker 1: guys in suits standing in like a room with also
- 36:38Speaker 1: a third guy sitting, and the first guy says, we'll
- 36:42Speaker 1: take over the case from here. What Charlie's like, but why, Chief,
- 36:47Speaker 1: why is the FBI here? Oh? Chief, who is the
- 36:51Speaker 1: guy sitting that we didn't know who he was or
- 36:53Speaker 1: I didn't know? Is like, it's out of my hands.
- 36:56Speaker 1: You're not involved in this case anymore. And Charlie's like,
- 36:59Speaker 1: but we go to Max, who is sitting with Ash,
- 37:03Speaker 1: which is nice, and Max says the doctors were shocked
- 37:07Speaker 1: too getting in a brawl like that after such a
- 37:10Speaker 1: big operation. Ash says, it was good exercise. I was
- 37:15Speaker 1: worried to get fat just laying here. Max says, you know,
- 37:18Speaker 1: you don't have to put on a tough guy act.
- 37:21Speaker 1: You look really pale. He's kind of always pale, but okay.
- 37:25Speaker 1: Ash is like, it's just so irritating. He makes a fist,
- 37:29Speaker 1: not being able to move my own body. Max is like,
- 37:32Speaker 1: things like this are gonna keep happening if you stay here.
- 37:35Speaker 1: There are too many people who want you dead. It's
- 37:37Speaker 1: not just Golsen. Ash says, the old man wasn't behind
- 37:41Speaker 1: it this time. He'd want to capture me alive and
- 37:44Speaker 1: torture me to death. And Max says, which reminds me,
- 37:48Speaker 1: Goalsing is coming back next week. Ash is like, hmmm,
- 37:52Speaker 1: and he starts to smirk. I wonder if he found
- 37:54Speaker 1: a good taxidermist. Max is like, what, I hope he
- 38:02Speaker 1: didn't find a good taxidermist. But I also hope he
- 38:04Speaker 1: didn't find a bad taxidermist, because that would be bad too,
- 38:09Speaker 1: So I hope there's no taxidermist. And I appreciated having
- 38:12Speaker 1: that inside joke personally. Anyway, Max continues about the money
- 38:18Speaker 1: you stole from Goose's account. I'm thinking of exposing the
- 38:21Speaker 1: story on his homecoming. Ash says, but how you're just
- 38:25Speaker 1: a freelance journalist. Now are you gonna write a blog?
- 38:28Speaker 1: It'll just be a joke. This worked way better in
- 38:30Speaker 1: nineteen eighty five, where you really needed a newspaper to
- 38:34Speaker 1: back you up to get news out. But all right,
- 38:37Speaker 1: Max stands and he's like, I know the right people.
- 38:40Speaker 1: Be careful now, I'll get you out of here. And
- 38:43Speaker 1: that's just like you. Max says, have faith in your dad.
- 38:49Speaker 1: He winks and turns to leave. See it. We go
- 38:52Speaker 1: to an office, I guess, and there's this dude at
- 38:56Speaker 1: a desk and he looks kind of scruffy. He's got
- 38:59Speaker 1: brown hair and a mustache, and he says, unbelievable, it's
- 39:02Speaker 1: like something out of a paperback novel. Max and an
- 39:05Speaker 1: even scruffy are looking dude with brown hair and a
- 39:08Speaker 1: beard are standing in front of him, and the super
- 39:12Speaker 1: scruffy looking dude, who also has glasses, says, but every
- 39:16Speaker 1: intelligence agency dreams of developing mind control drugs. Max steps in.
- 39:21Speaker 1: Until now, dreaming was all they could do, but they
- 39:24Speaker 1: began to focus on it again in the oughts thanks
- 39:26Speaker 1: to a certain drug. The desk guy says that banana
- 39:30Speaker 1: fish thing. Max is like, it's the drug behind Senator
- 39:34Speaker 1: Peter Grant's death, and the super scruffy dude is like,
- 39:37Speaker 1: if we can find evidence, we could uncover a huge conspiracy.
- 39:42Speaker 1: The guy at the desk rubs his head and he's like,
- 39:44Speaker 1: all right, I'll sign you on for this. Max and
- 39:47Speaker 1: the scruffy dude look at each other like super relieved,
- 39:50Speaker 1: and they shake hands. And then Max's phone starts buzzing
- 39:54Speaker 1: and he answers it and he's like, hello, what now.
- 39:58Speaker 1: We see an FBI badge being shown to someone and
- 40:02Speaker 1: I can't read the guy's name on it because it's
- 40:04Speaker 1: like in cursive, it's like Mick E. Something don't know.
- 40:08Speaker 1: But we cut back and we see that. He and
- 40:12Speaker 1: the other FBI guy that we saw a couple of
- 40:14Speaker 1: minutes ago are standing in the doorway of Ash's hospital room.
- 40:18Speaker 1: The first guy says, hello, there, we'll be taking over
- 40:21Speaker 1: your case from here on out. And that'sh just like
- 40:25Speaker 1: the FBI. The first guy says, the psychiatric test you
- 40:29Speaker 1: took the other day showed an abnormality. We need to
- 40:32Speaker 1: take you to the National Mental Health Care Center for
- 40:34Speaker 1: further testing. But I don't know what that is. Ash's
- 40:37Speaker 1: eyes narrow. I'm a little bit pissed off because in
- 40:40Speaker 1: the manga when they came into his room, they said,
- 40:45Speaker 1: you know, we're with the FBI, and Ash was just
- 40:47Speaker 1: like so and I missed that joke. Anyway, Next we
- 40:52Speaker 1: see AG sleeping and we hear you along say I
- 40:56Speaker 1: heard you tried to escape again. You have some He's
- 41:01Speaker 1: sitting next to the bed that AG's sleeping and just
- 41:05Speaker 1: staring at him. Apparently he's been sedated. And there is
- 41:09Speaker 1: a knock on the door and we hear it open
- 41:11Speaker 1: and some guy says, ju way long. Ash links has
- 41:15Speaker 1: been discharged. Now we see an ambulance driving in the
- 41:18Speaker 1: city and the FBI guys and Ash are sitting inside
- 41:22Speaker 1: and Ash is blindfolded. That's nice. Ash thinks straight, then
- 41:28Speaker 1: left another right. That means we're headed north. He takes
- 41:33Speaker 1: a breath, salty air. The highway along the river, there's
- 41:38Speaker 1: like this weird road sound, and then like a jolts
- 41:41Speaker 1: and he's like, no, it's a bridge. We're crossing a bridge.
- 41:46Speaker 1: It's New Jersey. Oh no, not New Jersey. FBI guy one,
- 41:50Speaker 1: who is the only one that talks, basically says, you're
- 41:54Speaker 1: being awfully quiet. I hear you have an outstanding IQ.
- 41:58Speaker 1: You don't really look like a bloodthirsty murder. Ash smiles,
- 42:02Speaker 1: and he says, and you don't look like an FBI agent.
- 42:05Speaker 1: The agents kind of shift in their seats uncomfortably, and
- 42:09Speaker 1: Ash says, and I'll read this from the manga because
- 42:12Speaker 1: the anime just picked random names that don't make any sense. Saul,
- 42:16Speaker 1: we'll use actual names of clothing companies for this. Ralph
- 42:20Speaker 1: Laurence suits, Calvin Klein Ties, Salvatore Ferragamo shoes. Somebody really
- 42:26Speaker 1: should have told you that you rarely need to fed
- 42:28Speaker 1: the dresses that well. The FBI guys look at each
- 42:31Speaker 1: other and the first one says, I see, so I
- 42:35Speaker 1: guess it's true what they say about you. I mean,
- 42:37Speaker 1: knowing clothes that rich people wear is probably really in
- 42:41Speaker 1: Ash's wheelhouse, honestly, Like, that's probably not that hard for
- 42:45Speaker 1: him to figure out that you're not FBI. Anyway, the
- 42:48Speaker 1: ambulance pulls towards a large, white, hospitally looking building, and
- 42:54Speaker 1: then we go to Ash's perspective where the blind fold
- 42:57Speaker 1: is removed and he sees two I guess order and
- 43:00Speaker 1: a doctor standing in front of him, and the doctor says, welcome,
- 43:04Speaker 1: Ash Lynx. I'm doctor Mannerheim. I'm in charge of this facility.
- 43:09Speaker 1: He has light brown hair and it's like kind of
- 43:10Speaker 1: slipped back, and he's a mustache. Ash just kind of
- 43:13Speaker 1: stares at him. We cut to Shunichi and Max in
- 43:16Speaker 1: like an off sea type room. It's that same office
- 43:19Speaker 1: room is place that Max and Ash were in that
- 43:22Speaker 1: one time, and Ash was sitting on the window seat
- 43:24Speaker 1: and I was like, I wish I had a bay
- 43:25Speaker 1: window or whatever. Well, now Max is sitting on the
- 43:28Speaker 1: bay window seats and he says, anyway, ask George for
- 43:33Speaker 1: me tomorrow. They'll have to let him meet a lawyer.
- 43:35Speaker 1: And then he's like huh, and he picks up his phone,
- 43:39Speaker 1: which I guess is on silent and he says hello,
- 43:42Speaker 1: and a voice says Max, check out the news. Now.
- 43:46Speaker 1: Max is like huh, and we cut to Max and
- 43:49Speaker 1: Shounichi in front of a TV looking like real freaked
- 43:51Speaker 1: out because the screen says deceased ash LYNX. What principal
- 43:56Speaker 1: instigator in recent string of gang violence? And I guess
- 43:59Speaker 1: when they turned on the TV, the newscaster was in
- 44:01Speaker 1: the middle of a sentence, because all we hear is
- 44:03Speaker 1: investigating the cause. And then he continues, ash Links, eighteen
- 44:07Speaker 1: years old, was arrested for violence between rival and gangs.
- 44:10Speaker 1: We kind of cut to everyone else who's also watching
- 44:13Speaker 1: this news, so we see Kine first in like a
- 44:16Speaker 1: bar with the gang, and then sing watching this on
- 44:19Speaker 1: his phone with his gang, and then we see Eg.
- 44:26Speaker 1: The newscaster continues he was badly wounded and had been
- 44:29Speaker 1: hospitalized early this morning. He died being transported to the
- 44:33Speaker 1: National Mental Health Center. AG looks like his world just
- 44:38Speaker 1: shattered and he just hears the words he died, bringing
- 44:44Speaker 1: over and over in his head. And then we cut
- 44:48Speaker 1: to the title card Tenderous the Night, and then we
- 44:51Speaker 1: go to the ending theme Whoo, this is one of
- 44:54Speaker 1: the few times, if not the only time, where we
- 44:56Speaker 1: see the ending animation, which isn't really animation so much
- 45:00Speaker 1: as individual images. The song is called Red by Survive,
- 45:04Speaker 1: said the Prophet, which you know did the first opening theme.
- 45:08Speaker 1: And this song is all in English and it's very understandable,
- 45:12Speaker 1: and I urge you not to listen to it too
- 45:15Speaker 1: much because it's going to upset you don't listen to it.
- 45:18Speaker 1: But might also upset you is the visuals, which don't
- 45:21Speaker 1: really work with the song unless you know what they're about,
- 45:25Speaker 1: and then it really is upsetting. The visuals are probably
- 45:29Speaker 1: supposed to be from Cape Cod nineteen eighty five one shot.
- 45:33Speaker 1: So it's a lot of like summer scenes of like
- 45:36Speaker 1: fields of like wheats and you know, like lot's of
- 45:39Speaker 1: golden wheat and age and Ash lying in the grass
- 45:43Speaker 1: and shit and looking at each other. And it looks
- 45:46Speaker 1: really peaceful, which is not what the lyrics are like.
- 45:50Speaker 1: So don't listen to the lyrics. We'll talk about them
- 45:54Speaker 1: in a different episode. And that's it. Hooray. So closing
- 46:03Speaker 1: thoughts is Ash dead? I mean, we know he made
- 46:06Speaker 1: it to National Mental Health Institute, so he's probably not dead.
- 46:09Speaker 1: But this is really convenient for whoever planned to kill
- 46:14Speaker 1: him off. I guess Senator Kippard and the rest of
- 46:17Speaker 1: that weird crew of terrible people, because now it doesn't
- 46:22Speaker 1: matter what happens to them, they can do whatever they want. Damn,
- 46:25Speaker 1: because he's technically dead. Great, I mean unless he really
- 46:30Speaker 1: is dead, and it's not like this is the first
- 46:32Speaker 1: time an anime's ever killed off a main character, So
- 46:35Speaker 1: you never know, right, he could be dead, this could
- 46:37Speaker 1: be it. It could just be about Ag getting revenge. Now,
- 46:39Speaker 1: you never know. Yeah, So Max is trying to reveal
- 46:44Speaker 1: what's going on, so hopefully he can do that and
- 46:46Speaker 1: we can kind of stop all this shit because Goldie's
- 46:48Speaker 1: coming back and that's going to be a problem because
- 46:50Speaker 1: he might have a taxidermist. So that's kind of where
- 46:55Speaker 1: we are right now. There's not a lot that I
- 46:57Speaker 1: really wanted to talk about this episode. I already talked
- 46:59Speaker 1: about the thing that went on between AG's perception of
- 47:03Speaker 1: Ash and what Ash thinks AG's perception of him is,
- 47:06Speaker 1: which is one of my favorite things in the whole world.
- 47:09Speaker 1: But the other thing I wanted to talk about real
- 47:12Speaker 1: quick is when Ue Loung was talking to Ag about
- 47:15Speaker 1: how Ash doesn't need anybody, and he's you know, like
- 47:19Speaker 1: a beautiful beast thing, because that's how people talk about Ash,
- 47:22Speaker 1: like he's not a person. But I thought it was
- 47:25Speaker 1: really interesting that ag is, like so he is so
- 47:29Speaker 1: much conviction in the way that he sees Ash and
- 47:33Speaker 1: really the way that he sees the world that like
- 47:35Speaker 1: this didn't even shake him at all. His takeaway from
- 47:38Speaker 1: what Uelung was saying to him was that ue Lung
- 47:41Speaker 1: really doesn't like him, which is true, and Uelung really
- 47:47Speaker 1: doesn't know that much about Ash. What he's doing is
- 47:49Speaker 1: assuming that Ash is basically just like him, and he's just,
- 47:54Speaker 1: in my opinion, probably projecting his fears kind of about himself,
- 47:59Speaker 1: like I don't need anyone, So this guy probably doesn't
- 48:02Speaker 1: need anyone, like he's like me. He just needs people
- 48:05Speaker 1: to worship him and hate him so that he can
- 48:08Speaker 1: kind of survive, which is terrible. I want you a
- 48:11Speaker 1: Lung to have happiness. I don't want him to be alone.
- 48:14Speaker 1: I guess I don't know. I don't want Ash to
- 48:16Speaker 1: be alone. So anyway, I just liked that, I think,
- 48:20Speaker 1: especially since this manga was in the eighties and I've
- 48:23Speaker 1: watched you know, multiple show Joe in the nineties and
- 48:26Speaker 1: you know other things like that, where even then it
- 48:29Speaker 1: was like it was really easy to challenge the perception
- 48:33Speaker 1: that a character was having of the main character or
- 48:35Speaker 1: the main character is having of like a secondary love
- 48:37Speaker 1: interest by like just saying like, I don't think that
- 48:40Speaker 1: they really care about you. I don't think that they
- 48:42Speaker 1: need you. And then that would just be like, oh
- 48:43Speaker 1: my god, what if he doesn't care about me? What
- 48:45Speaker 1: if he doesn't need me like this person said, and
- 48:47Speaker 1: what if I'm like really in his way? So I
- 48:50Speaker 1: love that, like this isn't happening here that ages is
- 48:52Speaker 1: like no, no, I don't know why you hate me
- 48:54Speaker 1: so much, but like none of what you're saying makes sense.
- 48:57Speaker 1: That's cool. It would be nice to think that if
- 49:00Speaker 1: somebody cared about a person you know or you, that
- 49:05Speaker 1: they would believe in you and their perception of you
- 49:10Speaker 1: more than should just some random dude that is trying
- 49:13Speaker 1: to obviously tear you apart, you know, So I like
- 49:16Speaker 1: that makes me really happy. It's not the only time
- 49:19Speaker 1: I get to talk about ag just going like nope,
- 49:22Speaker 1: I don't think so, So I'm excited. It's nice that
- 49:26Speaker 1: one of them believes in their relationship anyway. I don't
- 49:29Speaker 1: really think there's much else. Oh, we did lose some
- 49:31Speaker 1: really cool things in the manga here. They're not really big,
- 49:35Speaker 1: but I did want to point out that in the
- 49:37Speaker 1: scene where Kippard and Smiles and hoole Stock we're talking
- 49:43Speaker 1: about ashes IQ, we lost what I think is kind
- 49:46Speaker 1: of an important tidbit, which is at the end of
- 49:50Speaker 1: the scene, Kipberd had said, like, ah, that poor kid,
- 49:52Speaker 1: Like it's too bad he wasn't just brainless because he
- 49:54Speaker 1: lasts longer kind of deal. A little bit earlier in
- 49:57Speaker 1: that conversation they had been talking about basically it was
- 50:00Speaker 1: really just like vulgar and straightforward. They said, like, it's
- 50:04Speaker 1: kind of a shame that he has such a high
- 50:07Speaker 1: IQ sence. He's really only good for giving blowjobs basically,
- 50:12Speaker 1: And it wasn't like it's a shame that this is
- 50:15Speaker 1: what happened to him. It was like, it's a shame
- 50:18Speaker 1: that he's intelligent because he doesn't fucking need it kind
- 50:22Speaker 1: of deal, which is so fucking horrible, And I hate
- 50:26Speaker 1: when those things are removed from the anime because it's
- 50:31Speaker 1: kind of important to see how cruel and horrible these
- 50:36Speaker 1: people are, you know in my opinion, So yeah, I
- 50:40Speaker 1: don't know, man. And as I kind of just mentioned that,
- 50:43Speaker 1: people don't see Ash as like a complete person, they
- 50:45Speaker 1: just see him as like a thing. That's kind of
- 50:48Speaker 1: what's happening here too. We just lose like a little
- 50:50Speaker 1: bit of the viciousness towards him, even if he's not
- 50:54Speaker 1: there for it's it's still like real skew and upsetting.
- 50:58Speaker 1: So yeah, I don't know where I'm going with this.
- 51:03Speaker 1: There are a couple other examples, like when he is
- 51:05Speaker 1: undergoing surgery and he kind of starts to cry the
- 51:09Speaker 1: doctor's notice and they say something like, oh, look he's
- 51:13Speaker 1: like crying, and the doctor's like, oh, I guess he
- 51:16Speaker 1: still has some humanity left in him even though he
- 51:19Speaker 1: killed all those people. You can just tell they don't
- 51:21Speaker 1: want to work on him, you know. So yeah, Also,
- 51:26Speaker 1: you can't cry under anesthesia, by the way, it's not
- 51:28Speaker 1: a thing. But now I've ruined that for you, which
- 51:32Speaker 1: is said because I love that scene. So yeah, I
- 51:35Speaker 1: think that's it. I'm not going to go through, obviously
- 51:38Speaker 1: all the things that we lost from the manga, but
- 51:41Speaker 1: I think the manga really shines in this arc in
- 51:44Speaker 1: a way that the anime does not, and I really
- 51:47Speaker 1: encourage you to, if you enjoy this anime, to please
- 51:51Speaker 1: read the manga after because I think you'll like love
- 51:54Speaker 1: the shit out of it. So that's all I really
- 51:57Speaker 1: got there. I'm gonna I'm gonna stop. Okay, one more
- 52:02Speaker 1: thing before I go. So this was episode fourteen. Episode
- 52:06Speaker 1: fifteen is the episode that I have been dreading recording
- 52:13Speaker 1: since I decided that I was going to do Bananifits
- 52:16Speaker 1: for the podcast. Actually, since I was even considering it's,
- 52:20Speaker 1: I was dreading episode fifteen. So when you watch it
- 52:26Speaker 1: and you're like, what the fuck, Michelle, I'm sorry. I
- 52:29Speaker 1: don't know either, Like, there's nothing I can do about it.
- 52:32Speaker 1: We just have to push through this, like so, and
- 52:35Speaker 1: I'll talk about it next week. But I am sorry
- 52:40Speaker 1: in advance for episode fifteen. So yeah, have a good
- 52:45Speaker 1: time with it, and hopefully i'll see you next week.
- 52:48Speaker 1: Unless you quit the show after watching it, I know
- 52:52Speaker 1: you're like, what could that be? This is such a
- 52:54Speaker 1: terrible series, Like what else could happen? Oh, you're gonna
- 52:57Speaker 1: find out obviously, So it's really not that bad. Guys anyway,
- 53:03Speaker 1: have a really good whatever, and I'll see you again.
- 53:06Speaker 1: I guess later. Webs
