- 1:16Speaker 1: do you have a synopsis of this movie? Man?
- 1:19Speaker 2: No, of course, I don't. Hold on. Okay, here it
- 1:23Speaker 2: is South Beach Love, a story about rival Kincinadas, Glorious
- 1:29Speaker 2: Cuban Cooking, Friendship, family ties, and romance.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Okay, let's do news and notes. I have a few
- 1:37Speaker 1: news and notes here. First, this was based on a book. Yes, bye,
- 1:43Speaker 1: and I'm gonna butcher this. I apologize, Carrie dad Pineto.
- 1:48Speaker 1: I think that was great.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Okay, thanks, Yes, partter.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Of Hallmark's publishing line.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Oh, I didn't realize that.
- 1:55Speaker 1: I have to wonder if you'll recall that we thought
- 2:00Speaker 1: because a man in a Christmas sweater was a real stinker,
- 2:02Speaker 1: people swear the books better. I downloaded, read about ten
- 2:05Speaker 1: pages and then got distracted, so I can't answer that.
- 2:08Speaker 1: But I'm very curious to know if the book is
- 2:12Speaker 1: better slash different than the movie.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Do you think anybody read it?
- 2:16Speaker 1: There are the tiniest number of reviews on Amazon?
- 2:19Speaker 2: Okay, are they good?
- 2:21Speaker 1: The ones I read were actually okay?
- 2:23Speaker 2: Okay.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Hey, William Levy, who plays Tony in this movie is Cuban. Yes,
- 2:29Speaker 1: and he owns two restaurants in Miami. Hey, I have
- 2:31Speaker 1: that note too.
- 2:32Speaker 2: I'm actually surprised that you saw that.
- 2:35Speaker 1: I well, I appreciated that I liked that tie in
- 2:38Speaker 1: that it was like almost true to life. For him
- 2:40Speaker 1: A right, Yeah, did you know that he was on
- 2:44Speaker 1: Dancing with the Stars, did not? Season fourteen? He danced
- 2:48Speaker 1: with pro Cheryl Burke. He came in third. So who
- 2:52Speaker 1: why you're looking four star prior to this?
- 2:56Speaker 2: He's a tella novella. He's been acting for twenty plus
- 3:01Speaker 2: years and I looked up his net worth eighteen million dollars.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Goodness, I know.
- 3:06Speaker 2: So like he he's been in a lot of stuff.
- 3:08Speaker 2: He's acted in a lot of stuff. So I think
- 3:11Speaker 2: he came on Dancing with the Stars as like this
- 3:14Speaker 2: big like telenovella star.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I'm into it. Look he's handsome, I'll give him that.
- 3:20Speaker 2: I think he's super handsome. I don't know about those
- 3:21Speaker 2: blonde highlights he had going on in this movie, but
- 3:24Speaker 2: I've seen him look a lot better. Apparently there's some
- 3:27Speaker 2: naked pictures of him on the internet too, because he
- 3:30Speaker 2: once modeled. So whatever. Anyway, this movie was set in Miami,
- 3:36Speaker 2: but was actually filmed not in Canada, guys. It was
- 3:40Speaker 2: filmed in Saint Petersburg, which is on the Florida's Gulf Coast,
- 3:44Speaker 2: which is about two hundred and seventy miles from Miami.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Well that was gonna be my question. Good good research there.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Yeah, have you ever been to Miami? Like I know
- 3:52Speaker 2: you've been flown into Miami. Have you ever like stayed
- 3:55Speaker 2: in like South Beach.
- 3:57Speaker 1: I don't think I've ever flown into Miami. No, I've
- 3:59Speaker 1: never been to Miami. I thought for some reason. No,
- 4:02Speaker 1: never been to Orlando, but never Miami.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Taylor Cole plays what's her lead name in this?
- 4:08Speaker 1: Is it Sarah?
- 4:10Speaker 2: Sarah? You know it's either Maggie or Sarah or you
- 4:13Speaker 2: know one of those. Anyway, she's the lead and we
- 4:16Speaker 2: mostly recently saw her in one winter wedding. I think
- 4:20Speaker 2: she has the most beautiful skin on the planet.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Beautiful, very pretty. I enjoyed her so lots more to say,
- 4:28Speaker 1: but I would like to see more of her.
- 4:29Speaker 2: During this movie. Hallmark promode an upcoming Christmas movie with
- 4:34Speaker 2: Taylor Cole called Making Spirits Bright. Now I looked on
- 4:38Speaker 2: the Hallmark app and I don't see aim Making Spirits
- 4:40Speaker 2: Bright on there yet.
- 4:42Speaker 1: You know, there are a number of movies that they
- 4:45Speaker 1: have announced that have not been given an actual release
- 4:49Speaker 1: date yet, and the app is very slow to update,
- 4:53Speaker 1: so that does not surprise me at all.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Tell us when it's going to be on I don't
- 4:57Speaker 2: even think. I think it just said like coming right,
- 5:00Speaker 2: coming to count down to Christmas, making spirits bright with
- 5:03Speaker 2: Taylor Cole. Yeah.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm not sure that the Hallmark app beyond Movie
- 5:09Speaker 1: ten only names one movie, and that's A Kiss before Christmas.
- 5:13Speaker 1: But there are far more named movies that they have
- 5:17Speaker 1: announced and just not They have not given release dates too,
- 5:21Speaker 1: So gotcha. I think they're not totally sure about their
- 5:27Speaker 1: ability to complete these forty one They want to leave
- 5:30Speaker 1: their options open.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Very interesting to watch it play out here. Do you
- 5:34Speaker 2: have any more news and notes? No?
- 5:36Speaker 1: But I do have a first impression. Okay, this was
- 5:39Speaker 1: the worst movie of twenty twenty one, and I cannot
- 5:41Speaker 1: be convinced otherwise.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Lies.
- 5:44Speaker 1: I didn't hate it. I don't how of the year
- 5:49Speaker 1: the way. Nothing you can say to change my mind.
- 5:52Speaker 2: There were far worse steakers. This was no one of them.
- 5:55Speaker 1: No, I would rather watch Chasing Waterfalls in this no way.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Why did you think of a such garbage journey of
- 6:01Speaker 1: my heart? No? No, Oh my gosh, the conversation was
- 6:07Speaker 1: so stilted. Oht no, what will we do? Who is
- 6:11Speaker 1: going to get the magazine cover? This is so freaking boring.
- 6:15Speaker 1: I don't care. It had such potential dueling kingsigiaes, I
- 6:19Speaker 1: just couldn't sell me on it. I'm telling you, Sarah
- 6:23Speaker 1: and Tony had the chemistry of two rocks, which doesn't
- 6:27Speaker 1: mist because they are both beautiful people. I enjoyed them
- 6:32Speaker 1: both separately, but no, there was no chemistry in this movie.
- 6:37Speaker 1: I didn't buy any of their conversations. The only part
- 6:40Speaker 1: of the movie that I did enjoy was when it
- 6:42Speaker 1: was set to music and nobody was talking. My god, wow, wow.
- 6:50Speaker 2: I have to disagree with most of that. So tell
- 6:52Speaker 2: me your first impression. Well I have. I didn't hate it,
- 6:56Speaker 2: but it got super cheesy at the end. Okay, that's okay.
- 7:02Speaker 2: I didn't notice the cadence and how they talked. I
- 7:04Speaker 2: didn't realize any of that. I did think like the
- 7:10Speaker 2: chef storyline. The dueling chef storyline was kind of stupid,
- 7:14Speaker 2: and the magazine cover part of it was dumb and
- 7:16Speaker 2: like not necessary. But I really liked like the dueling
- 7:21Speaker 2: families and the Kinsineta show off.
- 7:25Speaker 1: So let's talk about what we did like. Look, I
- 7:28Speaker 1: loved the King Signetta scenes. I thought they did a
- 7:30Speaker 1: great job of making that look like a real party.
- 7:34Speaker 1: It looked you know, sometimes they don't necessarily follow these throughs.
- 7:38Speaker 1: I thought that was great. I thought the dresses the
- 7:41Speaker 1: girls wore were beautiful. They did a good job staging
- 7:44Speaker 1: the dance. They brought in a lot of traditional kingsanra
- 7:47Speaker 1: details like the shoes and the dolls. I really did
- 7:51Speaker 1: love the party.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Okay, let me ask. I've never been to a King Sinata.
- 7:55Speaker 2: I have no idea what the dolls and the shoes
- 7:58Speaker 2: that's a traditional variance or.
- 8:00Speaker 1: What I looked it up, because I haven't either, so
- 8:04Speaker 1: that both are you know. The idea of king signa
- 8:07Speaker 1: is they're becoming a woman, and so those are symbolic gestures.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Although what I read is typically it's the dad that
- 8:13Speaker 1: changes the shoes, although I think I don't know if
- 8:16Speaker 1: that was either incorrect or just that the moms were
- 8:19Speaker 1: such bigger players in this movie that they gave them
- 8:22Speaker 1: that role and it kind of signifies their change from
- 8:26Speaker 1: child to women as they changed from flat shoes to heels.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Same thing with a doll. They're moving away from their childhood,
- 8:31Speaker 1: they're moving into adulthood, and often they give a doll
- 8:34Speaker 1: to a younger family member, so I liked that attention
- 8:40Speaker 1: to detail. Obviously they had done their research, although I
- 8:43Speaker 1: assume that perhaps the people involved in the production of
- 8:46Speaker 1: this movie have also participated in king Signora. So I
- 8:50Speaker 1: enjoyed much of that.
- 8:53Speaker 2: So when I was in high school, I became friends
- 8:57Speaker 2: with a gal who was Cuban. We were really good friends,
- 9:01Speaker 2: but it was after we became friends, after her fifteenth birthday,
- 9:04Speaker 2: so I didn't get to go to her quin siata,
- 9:06Speaker 2: which she had, and I just remember her telling me, like,
- 9:10Speaker 2: what a huge party it was, and then she's like,
- 9:13Speaker 2: it was like a ballroom of Cubans dancing all night
- 9:17Speaker 2: long to Miami sound machine. Swear to god, she said
- 9:21Speaker 2: it was the best party ever, like all her you know, family, friends, friends, parents, friends,
- 9:26Speaker 2: blah blah blah blah whatever. She said, it was one
- 9:28Speaker 2: of the best things she ever experienced. And I was like, damn,
- 9:32Speaker 2: I wish I would have known you last year and
- 9:34Speaker 2: I d have gone. Yeah.
- 9:36Speaker 1: I liked their cooking montage that was set to music.
- 9:39Speaker 1: I thought that was fun and playful, and I enjoyed
- 9:42Speaker 1: watching them cook together, Sarah and Tony.
- 9:45Speaker 2: I have thoughts on that scene.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Okay. I enjoyed the salsa dancing scene. I thought that
- 9:52Speaker 1: the dance floor was decently full. It looked realistic, and
- 9:56Speaker 1: I loved the dress Sarah was wearing the salsa dance.
- 9:58Speaker 1: I enjoyed that scene. Do you have something to say
- 10:00Speaker 1: about that?
- 10:01Speaker 2: Also, I'm gonna have some words on that scene as well.
- 10:03Speaker 2: I do have a note here that Taylor Cole's wardrobe
- 10:06Speaker 2: was super cute. A lot of the dresses that she
- 10:08Speaker 2: wore were really adorable, really really adorable. I liked Tony's family.
- 10:16Speaker 2: I really liked his sister. I thought she was super
- 10:19Speaker 2: authentic and like just spoke the lines with the ease
- 10:24Speaker 2: and was kind of fun.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I enjoyed her as well.
- 10:28Speaker 2: I just and I liked like his family was very
- 10:30Speaker 2: much part of the storyline. I don't I liked it.
- 10:35Speaker 2: I didn't like all right, and so this is where
- 10:40Speaker 2: we might disagree. I wrote down both lead actors. Thought
- 10:44Speaker 2: they had good chemistry, both very pretty.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Well, they're both very pretty.
- 10:49Speaker 2: I thought they had decent chemistry. There were times when, Yes,
- 10:53Speaker 2: when they were cooking in her kitchen, she was so
- 10:56Speaker 2: close to him like her her. They were almost chest
- 11:00Speaker 2: to chess.
- 11:00Speaker 1: They were so close.
- 11:01Speaker 2: I get that they're like shooting the scene, but like,
- 11:04Speaker 2: I felt some like vibes there, and then I thought
- 11:07Speaker 2: that they had some nice chemistry when they were kissing
- 11:10Speaker 2: and when they were dancing at the Floridian Dance Club.
- 11:14Speaker 2: You don't really, you don't think so.
- 11:17Speaker 1: I thought they're dancing, they had chemistry. I thought when
- 11:20Speaker 1: they were cooking they had chemistry. Again, they were not
- 11:22Speaker 1: speaking in any of those scenes. I don't know why
- 11:26Speaker 1: the dialogue between the two of them felt so stilted
- 11:29Speaker 1: to me. I agree Tony's sister of the conversation he
- 11:32Speaker 1: had with her. I thought that that felt natural. They
- 11:36Speaker 1: didn't do it for me though, as a couple.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Interesting. Well, I actually thought that he was much better
- 11:42Speaker 2: in this role than she was. Maybe kind of a miscast.
- 11:47Speaker 2: I think she's beautiful, and I think she's a good actress,
- 11:50Speaker 2: but I don't maybe I don't. I kind of agree
- 11:53Speaker 2: that they are kind of an opposite pairing.
- 11:56Speaker 1: I don't know that they're an opposite pairing. I don't
- 11:58Speaker 1: know that seeing them separately, I would have thought that
- 12:00Speaker 1: they didn't work together. I don't know. It didn't work
- 12:04Speaker 1: for me. I don't know why.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Well, I thought he was natural, I thought he was
- 12:08Speaker 2: great did you like William Levy at all?
- 12:11Speaker 1: Well, I wish he wouldn't mumble, Oh.
- 12:14Speaker 2: My god, that's my number one wish for At times,
- 12:16Speaker 2: William Levey was hard to understand.
- 12:19Speaker 1: I had to turn on the captions and don't come
- 12:23Speaker 1: for me and say it's because of his accent, and
- 12:24Speaker 1: I'm a jerk, because no, it is not. There were
- 12:26Speaker 1: plenty of accents in this movie. I can understand an accent.
- 12:30Speaker 1: He needs to open his mouth. He mumbled many many times.
- 12:35Speaker 1: I think he speaks quickly and he doesn't enunciate. That
- 12:39Speaker 1: made him hard to understand.
- 12:42Speaker 2: I agree he was kind of hard to understand, yes.
- 12:45Speaker 1: But other than that, I do love him. I think
- 12:48Speaker 1: he has kind of that like sexy smoldering thing going.
- 12:51Speaker 1: He's like a little bit like kind of a laid
- 12:54Speaker 1: back dude, like doesn't get too worked up about anything.
- 12:57Speaker 1: I think women probably kind of around him because he
- 13:01Speaker 1: just kind of has that like I make everybody around
- 13:04Speaker 1: me feel special just by like the way I look
- 13:07Speaker 1: at them, like obviously I'm so hot. So when I
- 13:12Speaker 1: look at you and extend my gift on next to you,
- 13:16Speaker 1: I don't know, I just I understand the appeal. I
- 13:20Speaker 1: understand why he's a star. I like Taylor Cole too. Look,
- 13:26Speaker 1: I liked the idea of this movie as well. Somethings
- 13:31Speaker 1: just didn't work for me.
- 13:32Speaker 2: All right, is there anything you wish for? Well? I
- 13:36Speaker 2: thought there could have been better dancing scenes from the
- 13:39Speaker 2: dude that got perfect scores on Dancing the Stars.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Maybe Taylor Cole held him back.
- 13:43Speaker 2: I'm thinking she might have, because more than once, I
- 13:46Speaker 2: think three times, like he dipped her and I was like,
- 13:50Speaker 2: that's it. We're not gonna get any like latin. I
- 13:54Speaker 2: don't know salsa dancing anything anything, And there was some
- 13:59Speaker 2: good dancing going on around them, but they were just
- 14:03Speaker 2: like he'd just give her this big dip and that
- 14:06Speaker 2: was it and turn her around.
- 14:08Speaker 1: And I did like the dancing going on on the
- 14:10Speaker 1: dance floor, though, I did feel like everyone else really
- 14:12Speaker 1: knew what they were doing, and like when they panned back,
- 14:15Speaker 1: you can see her body dancing. I enjoyed that. Yeah, yeah,
- 14:18Speaker 1: I wish the actresses that played Teresa and Lola were
- 14:21Speaker 1: more believable as fifteen year old no.
- 14:23Speaker 2: No, no, no, we yeah yeah, Lola Sa she was
- 14:28Speaker 2: she's got to be twenty two, right. I tried to
- 14:30Speaker 2: find her age online and I could not.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think Lola is definitely older than fifteen,
- 14:36Speaker 1: but she has a much younger face, like she just
- 14:38Speaker 1: has kind of baby faced features. Yea, So she was believable,
- 14:43Speaker 1: but Teresa beautiful girl, not believable as a fifteen year old.
- 14:47Speaker 2: I know. So I try to look it up and
- 14:48Speaker 2: I couldn't find anything. And I was like, I wonder
- 14:50Speaker 2: if that's on purpose because they want her to play
- 14:53Speaker 2: younger roles, you know. I couldn't find anything. And then
- 14:56Speaker 2: I looked at her Instagram too, and I think in
- 14:59Speaker 2: her instagm grand profile said like I write songs in
- 15:01Speaker 2: my bedroom, which okay, so maybe she is younger. I
- 15:06Speaker 2: don't I don't know. I don't know.
- 15:08Speaker 1: I don't know. She was not believable as a fifteen
- 15:11Speaker 1: year old to me.
- 15:12Speaker 2: But I liked both of those actresses I did too
- 15:15Speaker 2: cute and fun and yeah, I liked it. And one
- 15:18Speaker 2: of them had really cute hair. I think it was Lola.
- 15:20Speaker 2: She had this really cute hairstyle at one point it
- 15:22Speaker 2: was like twisted in the front.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Uh huh uh.
- 15:24Speaker 2: It was so super cute. I was like, I wonder
- 15:27Speaker 2: if my teenager would let me try to do that.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Another thing I wished for is that much of this
- 15:31Speaker 1: story hadn't been told in exposition. So much of the
- 15:37Speaker 1: basis of this story is based on things that have
- 15:39Speaker 1: happened in the past, and we get the tales told
- 15:43Speaker 1: via conversations with other people. We get Sarah talking to
- 15:47Speaker 1: her restaurants dude, yeah, yes, about why things didn't work
- 15:52Speaker 1: out with Tony, and we get them talking to their
- 15:55Speaker 1: families about why you know this is the dueling restaurants.
- 16:02Speaker 1: We get the fallout of the relationship between the mothers
- 16:07Speaker 1: via a conversation. Like, there's just so much backstory, like
- 16:11Speaker 1: Sarah and Tony had a relationship that didn't work out
- 16:14Speaker 1: because of reasons X, Y and Z and the mothers
- 16:17Speaker 1: used to be very close, but now they're not, and
- 16:19Speaker 1: nobody knows why. I think this movie tried to do
- 16:22Speaker 1: too much, and I think they could have really dug
- 16:25Speaker 1: in deeper on the Dueling King signieta side of things
- 16:29Speaker 1: and left out a lot of everything else. A lot
- 16:32Speaker 1: of this would have worked in a book because you
- 16:35Speaker 1: don't have the time constraints of an hour and forty
- 16:37Speaker 1: minute movie, and because you can do maybe flashback scenes
- 16:41Speaker 1: in a book that are harder to do in a
- 16:43Speaker 1: movie because it's harder to visually make that work. I,
- 16:47Speaker 1: having not read the book, my assumption is they tried
- 16:50Speaker 1: to take too much of the book and put it
- 16:51Speaker 1: into this movie, and they could have dug in on
- 16:54Speaker 1: some details and made this a better, more fun movie.
- 16:59Speaker 2: All right, Well, I wish they had less dueling chefs,
- 17:02Speaker 2: like I don't care, like I like the whole magazine thing,
- 17:07Speaker 2: and her trying to get another like restaurant space and
- 17:11Speaker 2: like bean out bit. I don't care about any of
- 17:14Speaker 2: that stuff, none of it same. You could have cut
- 17:17Speaker 2: all of that again, dig in on the dueling parties, vibe. Okay,
- 17:21Speaker 2: here's the last thing I wished for. More Cuban food.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Where was the melanessa? Where were the black beans? Where
- 17:29Speaker 2: were the fried planting planteens? Well, I told you one
- 17:32Speaker 2: of my best friends was Cuban. I was in her
- 17:35Speaker 2: house a lot, and we ate a lot of Cuban
- 17:37Speaker 2: food and it's delicious. And all they had was the
- 17:40Speaker 2: like ropa vieha or whatever whatever that's called, which is
- 17:44Speaker 2: just like a stew or something. But anyway, I was like,
- 17:49Speaker 2: show me more, make it more.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Believable food scenes and even when they're doing the photo shoot,
- 17:56Speaker 1: they're like playing with frosting, and I was like, no,
- 17:58Speaker 1: what are we doing? I know, like what a cupcake?
- 18:01Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 18:01Speaker 1: Stupid giy Cuban.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Yeah totally. Did you have.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Anything else you wished for?
- 18:07Speaker 2: Nope, okay, I have several did you see that?
- 18:11Speaker 1: Okay?
- 18:12Speaker 2: And it's mostly just commentary, it's not like funny things
- 18:15Speaker 2: or anything. But Taylor Cole and her damn bike. There
- 18:18Speaker 2: was one scene she was like riding like to the
- 18:20Speaker 2: market on her bike and it has this huge bike
- 18:23Speaker 2: helmet on, which is great, great wear a helmet. She
- 18:25Speaker 2: looked ridiculous. And then she's like leaving her house walking
- 18:29Speaker 2: her bike, rolling up to Tony's on her bike. I
- 18:32Speaker 2: was like, do you not have a car? Like? Which
- 18:34Speaker 2: is fine, she's environmentally friendly, but this stupid bike. I
- 18:39Speaker 2: felt like it was a character in this movie.
- 18:42Speaker 1: I did not clock the bike at all. That was
- 18:44Speaker 1: so funny.
- 18:45Speaker 2: What did you see?
- 18:46Speaker 1: I swear in one of the early scenes I saw
- 18:48Speaker 1: someone wearing a mask on the streets as they are
- 18:50Speaker 1: walking by.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Oh stop, really, Oh I bet there.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Was might have been like a fever dream, but I was.
- 18:56Speaker 1: I'm almost positive I saw it.
- 18:58Speaker 2: I mean in Florida. Oh god, I'm surprised.
- 19:02Speaker 1: But right, I didn't rewind to go see if I
- 19:05Speaker 1: had actually seen it.
- 19:06Speaker 2: But if they're like shooting in an outdoor open space
- 19:09Speaker 2: and there's like just the random person in the background
- 19:12Speaker 2: where it could be where Yeah, sure, sure, I already
- 19:17Speaker 2: mentioned William Levey's bad highlights in this movie. My husband
- 19:20Speaker 2: wanted me to definitely note that on the podcast he
- 19:24Speaker 2: caught like the last fifteen minutes with me.
- 19:27Speaker 1: My husband was not into this movie. He was like,
- 19:29Speaker 1: where's the fall?
- 19:30Speaker 2: I'm out, Well, yes, that's another thing.
- 19:33Speaker 1: No fall in this movie, not even a little bit.
- 19:37Speaker 1: I don't even know what is happening to Hallmark right now.
- 19:41Speaker 2: I'm annoyed by it, to be quite honest.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Yeah, and there's not even a case to be made.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Like there's one point where Sarah and Toni are sitting
- 19:49Speaker 1: in a restaurant and like you can't even pretend like
- 19:52Speaker 1: they're First of all, they're in Miami. It's hot, it's
- 19:55Speaker 1: not a fall vibe. But she's in like a bright
- 19:58Speaker 1: pink sleeveless dress, very cute. But that's a summer not
- 20:03Speaker 1: a fall vibe.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Right there, right exactly the dance scene at Ta King
- 20:07Speaker 2: Sinetta when the kids are dancing, like I don't know
- 20:10Speaker 2: if that's like a thing they have, like a court
- 20:12Speaker 2: of other kids who like dance in unison or whatever.
- 20:16Speaker 2: My husband says, I could have choreograph this, and he's
- 20:20Speaker 2: not a dancer, so he just thought it was terrible.
- 20:24Speaker 2: I didn't think it was terrible. I thought it was
- 20:25Speaker 2: kind of sweet and cute. I don't know.
- 20:28Speaker 1: The scene when Lola and her court are practicing their
- 20:31Speaker 1: dance at her house. All the boys are wearing collared
- 20:34Speaker 1: shirts and chinos with their shirts tucked in, Like, make
- 20:37Speaker 1: me believe these are fifteen year old boys, please, as
- 20:40Speaker 1: the have a of a fourteen year old boy in
- 20:42Speaker 1: my house? No, no, right, okay.
- 20:45Speaker 2: The fallout between the two friends the two moms. Yeah,
- 20:49Speaker 2: I don't know if you caught it. Finally at the
- 20:51Speaker 2: end when they're like talking it out of like why
- 20:53Speaker 2: they had a falling out. Yes, Lola's mom was mad
- 20:58Speaker 2: that the other lady did not take their offer on
- 21:01Speaker 2: the house when they were selling it, that she took
- 21:04Speaker 2: the higher bid GTFO. Of course she's gonna take the
- 21:07Speaker 2: higher bid. This is the stupidest storyline.
- 21:11Speaker 1: You knew how much we loved your house. Yes, and
- 21:13Speaker 1: the idea that they would have been best friends, that
- 21:17Speaker 1: one would have been selling their house, the other would
- 21:19Speaker 1: have made an offer, the other would have taken a
- 21:21Speaker 1: different offer, and then they never discussed it again, and
- 21:24Speaker 1: then the end of their friendship is not believable. Of
- 21:27Speaker 1: course you say to your friend, look, I would love
- 21:29Speaker 1: you to have this house, but we're gonna.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Go show me the money for yeah, And.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Then years long conflict was solved by we're gonna find
- 21:38Speaker 1: you the perfect house. That could have been the discussion
- 21:41Speaker 1: they had back when this house was sold. It was
- 21:44Speaker 1: like they couldn't even come up with made up taken
- 21:47Speaker 1: out of context. And Tony and his sister are looking
- 21:51Speaker 1: at it, and Teresa walks by and she goes, WHOA
- 21:55Speaker 1: that has a lot of light? A good conflict for
- 21:57Speaker 1: these two to have.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Yeah, so stupid.
- 22:00Speaker 1: So there's a scene where the magazine posts a teaser
- 22:06Speaker 1: online with these two pull quotes that are made up,
- 22:11Speaker 1: taken out of context, and Tony and his sister are
- 22:15Speaker 1: looking at it, and Teresa walks by and she goes,
- 22:19Speaker 1: WHOA that has a lot of likes. So I rewound
- 22:22Speaker 1: it and I looked at the scene and it's literally
- 22:26Speaker 1: a web page, like at the top it has like links.
- 22:28Speaker 1: It's like there's like their Facebook and Twitter and Instagram
- 22:31Speaker 1: icons to link to it. There's no it's a web page.
- 22:34Speaker 1: There are no likes. And then she goes, oh, I'm
- 22:37Speaker 1: gonna reshare this, and I was like, what is happening here?
- 22:39Speaker 1: Like it's a web page.
- 22:41Speaker 2: I'm just wondering if because the demographic who watches these
- 22:46Speaker 2: movies maybe wouldn't have caught that detail yet.
- 22:49Speaker 1: But it wasn't even necessary. It was such a or
- 22:52Speaker 1: the people writing it don't really understand how this works.
- 22:55Speaker 1: I don't know, but it was poorly done.
- 23:00Speaker 2: Okay, I have one word for you. Are you ready
- 23:03Speaker 2: for it? No? Cubish? Uh? Are you really naming a
- 23:09Speaker 2: restaurant Cubish? It does sounds so unappetizing to me. It
- 23:14Speaker 2: doesn't tell me it's a restaurant. It sounds like, I
- 23:17Speaker 2: don't office supplies or something. I don't know.
- 23:21Speaker 1: So dumb, but in your intern to make you a
- 23:23Speaker 1: better fake logo for this restaurant?
- 23:25Speaker 2: Either that too? Terrible, terrible, terrible.
- 23:29Speaker 1: I'm not convinced there's a market for Cuban Irish cuisine. Like,
- 23:32Speaker 1: just dig in, go all in on Cuban. You're good.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Well, so I did google this and there I'm not
- 23:38Speaker 2: even going to pretend I understand what it is, but
- 23:41Speaker 2: there was a lot of Google information about Cuban Irish history.
- 23:46Speaker 2: So I don't know what it is, but maybe there
- 23:50Speaker 2: is something out there. Affusion of Cuban and Irish food.
- 23:55Speaker 1: You're telling me in Miami there's a big Irish population.
- 23:59Speaker 2: I don't know out I don't know. Okay, So in
- 24:03Speaker 2: the scene where they're in her kitchen and she's making
- 24:06Speaker 2: a ropa vieha whatever, it's apparently the national dish of Cuba.
- 24:11Speaker 2: It's like a stew, like a meaty stew, and she's like, hey,
- 24:15Speaker 2: I have an idea.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Let's fuse the two dishes together.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Like they didn't have that idea ten years ago when
- 24:23Speaker 2: they were together. The only Irish element to this was
- 24:27Speaker 2: a pie crest. They put that meaty stew inside of
- 24:31Speaker 2: a pie, right, Yes, I mean it's not totally groundbreaking
- 24:36Speaker 2: because I did look up ropa vieha pie and tons
- 24:42Speaker 2: of recipes on there. Just like it's like a pot
- 24:44Speaker 2: pie basically, or an impanada, like meaty stuff surrounded by
- 24:50Speaker 2: doe yumminess. You know what I mean?
- 24:52Speaker 1: I mean anyway for that. But once again, I did
- 24:55Speaker 1: not care about the chef's side of this story.
- 24:58Speaker 2: It neither. I hated it. I hated it.
- 25:01Speaker 1: So what did you rank this movie that you did
- 25:03Speaker 1: not think was the worst movie of the year.
- 25:05Speaker 2: I gave it three stars.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, it's a one house to watch.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Oh my god, that is so funny. I don't know
- 25:15Speaker 2: why I didn't hate it. I've hated a ton of
- 25:18Speaker 2: movies this year. This was not bad worst.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Of the year.
- 25:23Speaker 2: No, not worse. No, no, not worse than New Year's
- 25:26Speaker 2: Day or New Year's Resolution or whatever that movie was
- 25:29Speaker 2: called way back in January.
- 25:30Speaker 1: I don't recall hating that movie.
- 25:32Speaker 2: You didn't hate it, are You're right?
- 25:34Speaker 1: I thought that was cute where she like runs that
- 25:37Speaker 1: rope's course, and yeah, no, it's terrible.
- 25:39Speaker 2: It was terrible Julie Taylor. Anyway, Yeah, I'm sorry. I
- 25:44Speaker 2: gave it three stars, and maybe if I did a
- 25:47Speaker 2: rewatch and compared it to something else, I might give
- 25:49Speaker 2: it less.
- 25:50Speaker 1: But one star. By the way, I didn't hate it.
- 25:54Speaker 1: What's IMDb give this movie? I don't know? All right,
- 25:58Speaker 1: the reviews were not bad on IMDb, so then I
- 26:01Speaker 1: had to click out of it. I was like, you
- 26:02Speaker 1: people are wrong.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Oh you were looking for somebody to side with you.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Huh, Yeah, that was bad. Does Advice to Love By
- 26:10Speaker 1: have any fall vibes in it at all?
- 26:13Speaker 2: Is that the last movie in the lineup?
- 26:15Speaker 1: Yes, ma'am.
- 26:16Speaker 2: I'm hoping that kind of. They have a book nd
- 26:18Speaker 2: situation where the Roadhouse Romance was the first one and
- 26:21Speaker 2: then this one too. But I don't see any false
- 26:23Speaker 2: stuff with it like in the commercials.
- 26:26Speaker 1: No, not at all. It's when a love advice author
- 26:29Speaker 1: crosses paths with a dating columnist and attraction begins to
- 26:32Speaker 1: blossom into more. They could very easily set this into fall,
- 26:35Speaker 1: very easily. Do I believe they will?
- 26:38Speaker 2: No, I do not fool me once they fooled you
- 26:42Speaker 2: four times already, I know.
- 26:44Speaker 1: I keep holding out hope. So we will be back
- 26:47Speaker 1: next Thursday discussing Advice to Love By the final Fall
- 26:51Speaker 1: Harvest movie. And I'm gonna be biting my tongue about
- 26:54Speaker 1: a month from now, when we are knee deep in
- 26:56Speaker 1: Christmas movies and I have had enough eggnog and ugly
- 27:00Speaker 1: Christmas watter scenes I know it. I'm gonna be begging
- 27:04Speaker 1: for anything but Christmas, but for now, all I want
- 27:09Speaker 1: is a Christmas movie. That's all I want. October twenty second,
- 27:12Speaker 1: It's coming. If you haven't listened to our Hallmark Christmas
- 27:15Speaker 1: Movie Preview episode, that episode is available for you to
- 27:18Speaker 1: download and take a listen and give us your thoughts
- 27:19Speaker 1: on the movies you're looking forward to. And guys will
- 27:22Speaker 1: be back next Tuesday with another brand new episode of
- 27:25Speaker 1: Long Story Short the Podcast. Until then, have a great week.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Goodbye bye,
