Latest / Bleacher Report / LeSean McCoy: The NFL MVP Isn't Allen, Mahomes or Purdy
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: I think Patrick Holmes has been the best quarterback in
- 0:02Speaker 1: the NFL this year, and I think he's the MVP
- 0:03Speaker 1: of the league.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Well, I mean, that's Pat. It's Pat.
- 0:06Speaker 3: Disagree?
- 0:07Speaker 2: I love Pat. I think Pat's playing great.
- 0:09Speaker 4: I think he's– they better get him now because in
- 0:11Speaker 4: a couple weeks, he's going to be close to 100%.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:13Speaker 4: Right?
- 0:14Speaker 2: But he's not my MVP.
- 0:15Speaker 3: He's not. And Brock Purdy is hooping.
- 0:17Speaker 2: He's going to– he, he, he, he, he, like that magic.
- 0:20Speaker 2: He's doing his thing right now.
- 0:22Speaker 4: But for my MVP, you had the right team right,
- 0:26Speaker 4: but not the right player.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Oh. Kenneth Walker, Jr. with the ball D. Yes!
- 0:33Speaker 3: Kenneth Walker, MVP of the NFL right now.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Who's the best team in football?
- 0:40Speaker 4: The Chiefs.
- 0:41Speaker 3: I think the Chiefs are.
- 0:43Speaker 4: And who's carrying the Chiefs?
- 0:45Speaker 3: I think Patrick Mahomes is.
- 0:47Speaker 2: I don't know what game you're watching.
- 0:48Speaker 3: If you watch these games. Kenneth Walker's been terrific. I'm
- 0:51Speaker 3: not denying that.
- 0:51Speaker 2: The offense is going through Kenneth Walker, the junior.
- 0:54Speaker 3: It's going through him.
- 0:55Speaker 4: If you watch the way they play in this game,
- 0:57Speaker 4: Patrick Mahomes is special.
- 0:57Speaker 2: He's going to make his plays, et cetera. But if
- 1:00Speaker 2: you watch how they're running their offense, they're running their
- 1:02Speaker 2: offense through him.
- 1:03Speaker 4: When they want to throw the ball a certain way,
- 1:04Speaker 4: they're using him as the decoy. And every team that
- 1:07Speaker 4: comes to play the Chiefs, obviously you got to watch
- 1:09Speaker 4: out for Patrick Mahomes.
- 1:10Speaker 2: He's so great.
- 1:10Speaker 4: But the main focus is we got to stop Kenneth Walker.
- 1:15Speaker 3: He is my MVP.
- 1:16Speaker 2: And I think we are so trained nowadays to say,
- 1:20Speaker 2: you know what? It's got to be the quarterback. Well,
- 1:22Speaker 2: this is the year that our boy, right?
- 1:26Speaker 3: Big strong arm and he runs so hard.
- 1:29Speaker 2: It's got to be Kenneth Walker.
- 1:31Speaker 1: You were a running back in Andy Reid's system. What's
- 1:33Speaker 1: it like as a running back in that system? And
- 1:35Speaker 1: you can give us a lot of insight on what
- 1:37Speaker 1: Kenneth is going through.
- 1:38Speaker 2: And this is why it's such a special situation over
- 1:40Speaker 2: there right now.
- 1:41Speaker 4: Because Andy Reid told me one time, I said, Coach,
- 1:43Speaker 4: I'm getting five yards of carry.
- 1:45Speaker 2: I need the ball. He said, Shady, you can't go
- 1:48Speaker 2: to heaven if you run the ball too much.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Did Reed said that to you?
- 1:52Speaker 2: I don't know. How do I answer back to that?
- 1:53Speaker 3: Yeah, how do you answer back to that? Right? And
- 1:55Speaker 3: he looked at me.
- 1:55Speaker 2: I was like, okay, all right, cool. Anyway, he don't–
- 1:58Speaker 2: that's not his thing.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:59Speaker 2: He runs the ball to keep you honest, but he
- 2:00Speaker 2: wants to throw the ball. That's what he does.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:02Speaker 4: But with the team they have and the talent they
- 2:05Speaker 4: have in the wide receiver, he can't really do it
- 2:06Speaker 4: as much. So I go pay a lot of money
- 2:09Speaker 4: to Kenneth Walker in free agency.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:11Speaker 4: I win a Super Bowl MVP to Kansas City, and
- 2:13Speaker 4: now we're giving him 20-some carries a game.
- 2:15Speaker 2: He don't do that. And it's working.
- 2:18Speaker 3: Look at those stats behind the screen.
- 2:20Speaker 1: It's got 537 rushing yards in four games.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Now, how did I stop the MVP?
- 2:24Speaker 3: Okay. Oh, my God. This is going to make you
- 2:26Speaker 3: really mad. Ching, ching, bling, bling, baby.
- 2:29Speaker 1: It takes a lot for me to not give the
- 2:33Speaker 1: MVP to a quarterback.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Why, though?
- 2:35Speaker 3: Because it's the most valuable position on the field.
- 2:38Speaker 2: That's true.
- 2:39Speaker 3: It just is.
- 2:40Speaker 1: And, like, I– When I was younger and I saw
- 2:43Speaker 1: Adrian Peterson win the award, I thought it was awesome.
- 2:45Speaker 1: I was way younger when Marshall Falk won and all that.
- 2:47Speaker 3: It can be done. It's just they have to act
- 2:51Speaker 3: like Derrick.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Henry had some seasons a few years ago, 2,000 rushing
- 2:54Speaker 1: yards and stuff.
- 2:56Speaker 3: But it's a quarterback-driven league. I hate saying that to you.
- 2:59Speaker 2: I just want to ask you a serious question. Yeah.
- 3:02Speaker 2: So you tell me when you watch the Chiefs offense.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:06Speaker 4: You don't think that Kenneth Walker is the most productive
- 3:09Speaker 4: player on the field?
- 3:10Speaker 1: He is the most productive, but I don't think he's
- 3:12Speaker 1: the most important. I think the most valuable player on
- 3:15Speaker 1: that side is still Pat, and Pat is making the
- 3:17Speaker 1: plays that I didn't think he was making last year
- 3:19Speaker 1: or even the year before.
- 3:20Speaker 2: No, that's true. Who's been the biggest impact, though?
- 3:25Speaker 1: Kenneth, but also, I mean, look how bad the team
- 3:28Speaker 1: was when he wasn't there.
- 3:30Speaker 2: This year.
- 3:31Speaker 4: Lost every game without him. I think we're having two
- 3:32Speaker 4: different conversations. You're saying what's the most productive. important and
- 3:35Speaker 4: valuable position.
- 3:37Speaker 2: It's Pat.
- 3:37Speaker 3: It's quarterback.
- 3:38Speaker 2: But if you watch your offense.
- 3:40Speaker 4: And the way it's going, that's where it's working, you
- 3:42Speaker 4: can't tell me the main person over there right now.
- 3:44Speaker 3: He's been terrific. He's been absolutely terrific.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Okay, last question.
- 3:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Who's been the best player on the offense? Let's do that.
- 3:50Speaker 3: The best player on the Chiefs offense?
- 3:52Speaker 2: Right now, today.
- 3:54Speaker 3: It's been Kenneth Walker.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Thank you!
- 3:58Speaker 3: Deal!
- 3:59Speaker 1: Deal!
- 3:59Speaker 3: I'm still giving it to a host.
- 4:01Speaker 1: But I will say, If there are some other non-quarterbacks,
- 4:04Speaker 1: if we wanted to think about that as MVP, I
- 4:06Speaker 1: think Kenneth Walker's up there. Gibbs and Jameer Gibbs and
- 4:09Speaker 1: the video game numbers he's going to put up this year.
- 4:11Speaker 2: He's crazy.
- 4:12Speaker 1: It's going to be insane. I don't know about that team.
- 4:14Speaker 1: I think we have to be talking about the Chiefs
- 4:16Speaker 1: because I do think they're the best team in the
- 4:17Speaker 1: NFL right now.
- 4:18Speaker 2: That should be my disappointing team, the Lions.
- 4:19Speaker 3: The Lions?
- 4:21Speaker 2: I'm always going back, right?
- 4:22Speaker 1: All right, so I'm rolling with Pat, and you're rolling
- 4:24Speaker 1: with Kenneth as your MVP.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Well, you know what?
- 4:28Speaker 3: We actually agree, though. We do.
- 4:30Speaker 4: If I said, you know what, go with the best
- 4:31Speaker 4: player on the offense, you would have said … Kenneth Walker.
- 4:36Speaker 2: We agree.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Kenneth Walker is the MVP a month into the season.
- 4:39Speaker 3: There you go.
