- speaker-0: Hey, welcome into Average Home Theater. I am Nelson. speaker-1: What's up everybody, producer Nick. speaker-0: Producer Nick is earlier. speaker-1: Feel like we haven't been here in a little while. It feels like it's been a couple of weeks. speaker-0: It's been ⁓ exactly two weeks, I think, since we've well, since we've released anything. speaker-1: Yeah, 'cause we did Constantine, I think, was the last time. speaker-0: Yes. Constantine, which it did okay. it's funny because we got some people saying, ⁓ I disagree with that, you know, apparently speaker-1: Yeah. Constantine is a little It's beloved and we didn't belove it. It's beloved. I thought we would have I thought we would have actually gotten a little bit more negative feedback than we did. I wish I wish we would have. Like as we say it every time, like let us know. Let us know how you feel. Let us know. Let us know that we're wrong. speaker-0: Yeah, tell us we're stupid and why. ⁓ but anyway, so we are here to talk about the twenty twenty-six version of Lord of the Flies. So Lord of the Flies. Giving it another go. It's from the BBC network. ⁓ but I I guess Netflix bought the rights or whatever you however that crap works. But you and I watched it on Netflix. speaker-1: Four part mini ⁓ limited series, four one hour episodes. When I when I first heard about this. ⁓ go ahead. speaker-0: Go ahead. Mm mm, no you go speaker-1: I was I was just gonna say I I really I remember reading the book as a I say a kid in high school and I remember really liking the story. I've never seen any of the movies. They did one in the seventies, I think, the black and white one. And then they did one or is it sixties? And then they did another one in the nineties. I've never seen any one of ⁓ I want to now. ⁓ but I remember well speaker-0: I don't think I've seen the black and white one, but I've watched the the one I think it's nineteen ninety or ninety one. and ⁓ I just remember it being okay because I watched it after I read the novel, which was only maybe fifteen years ago. Yeah. I read it when I was working at the school. But I really I love the book. The book is really good, of course. speaker-1: It's it's a great idea. It's a great ⁓ you know, the the concept. The story is yeah very interesting, like what would happen speaker-0: The concept is great. ⁓ and you know, Yellow Jackets, that series kind of basically took that idea and just tried to update it. But after like season three, that kind of got ridiculous. They started going supernatural and I just didn't like the super supernatural aspect of it. But it is a a and look, stuff like this has happened in real life. You have that movie alive that was that ⁓ that's was it a soccer team that crashed in that mountain. speaker-1: Yeah. From Uruguay or something like that. Yeah. Yeah. That's something that I watched a lot when I was younger and I remember really liking that but being disturbed by it. Like it was it was really well done and I'd like to see it again as as an adult 'cause it's been years speaker-0: I've watched it once as an adult. I didn't watch it when it came out 'cause it came out when you and I were probably teenagers. I watched it as an adult and I thought it was great, but I haven't watched it again. speaker-1: Yeah, yeah. Yeah. I'd like to I'd like to see it again. I think it might be on or it was on Prime. And then I think there's another ⁓ maybe it's Netflix had done something called Society of Snow, which I think is based on that. It's not a same story. Based on the same story, yeah. I don't know if it's a movie or a series, but I feel like I remember that coming up on my radar at one time and thinking I wanted to watch it. But yeah, once when this got released, ⁓ I was really excited for Lord of the Flies. I was Really excited to watch it. ⁓ it was definitely like something that was gonna be watched and then you kinda started people watching it and started kinda talking about it and it was a little lackluster, so it's well when we speaker-0: ⁓ When we saw the trailer here, it had already been released in Europe or whatever. And so there were already reviews. So I started looking on IMDV, looking at reviews, and they weren't very good. You know, it was kind of like some people like, ⁓ it's really good. Then others like, ⁓ So I was I was excited, but then my excitement. speaker-1: Yeah, same. But after after watching it I did that. Like I really, really, really liked it. And then it was ⁓ it was all right. Like it had its moments. speaker-0: So yeah, so we'll get into it. I really enjoyed, I think the style was good. I think the director and the cinematographer have talent. But I think they might have focused more on that than actually making an interesting story. And I think they they stretched it out too long. So I don't know if they had to do four episodes, and so they put a lot of fluff into it. speaker-1: Yes. It could have been shorter. That would have made it a lot better and easier to watch. Cause look, we watched Jacob and I watched it together. We watched the first episode. And after the first episode, I was ready to quit it. Like I wasn't I wasn't bored, but I was disinterested. And he's actually the one that said, like, let's watch just watch one more epic. But let's watch one more episode. He's never read the book. He's not familiar with the story and all that. And that that had something to do with it. Like, you know what's gonna happen. He didn't know what was gonna happen. ⁓ so he he like let's watch one more episode and then we watched the second episode and ended up that afternoon finishing the rest of the the show. Like we watched it all in two sittings basically. So after I got past that first episode, we finished it and it was it dragged. It dragged in a couple of parts, but I I really liked it. Like visually stunning. The kids were the actors were awesome. ⁓ speaker-0: was ⁓ that's my second point. The yeah the way it looked and the acting, you know, a lot of times when you have especially a bunch of kids, there's usually a couple of standouts, but most of them are kind of like all of these kids were really good actors, man. They did a great job. speaker-1: Even the little young ones, because there's older kids like early teens, and then there's some that are like under 10. The and a lot of that was just facial expressions and close ups and stuff like that. But yeah, everyone did a great job. And the the the guy that played Jack, I guess the the villain of the story. Look, he's one of those where I don't want to see him in anything else. He's ⁓ it's one of those where he plays such a good villain, a good bad guy. Like I don't like this kid. it reminds me of ⁓ I always the example of that for me I always go back to ⁓ Matt Dylan in There's something about Mary. Yes. He was such a jerk and such an ass that I did not like Matt Dylan for a long time after that because of that role. so yeah the the the guy that played Jack was he was he was awesome man. ⁓ Piggy was great all of them. And ⁓ speaker-0: I mean, if you're gonna go by the main characters, I guess, I guess Ralph might have been maybe the weakest. But he was still good. You know, I would have liked I would have liked Ralph to be and I don't remember how tough he was in the novel, because it's been so long since I read it. But it just seems like this Ralph was maybe not he could have been a little tougher. I mean, not not bully tough, but he just seemed a little. too passive and I don't remember if he was like that. Yeah. speaker-1: I feel like I remember him being tougher, like you said, and not as ⁓ not as forgiving with with Piggy. Like he was fair with him, but he was also kinda tough on him, if if that makes sense. ⁓ I I do I do kind of remember that and I may be remembering it completely wrong, but I don't think they were like super tight all the time. I think he was kinda hard on him too sometimes. Well I thought it was a little bit of that in the show. speaker-0: I just remember everybody being mean to Piggy. It but like I said, it's been so long. I I don't remember the details of it. But I mean, obviously things change when you're adapting something to screen. So to me, let's say I was the director, I probably would have just just made Ralph a little a little less tolerant. He was almost too tolerant of Jack, you know? Yeah. ⁓ but would have been a stylistic choice for me, yeah. speaker-1: That was a little bit. Yeah. Yeah. But ⁓ yeah, i I and I kind of agree he might have been the weakest one, but there were no weak ones. speaker-0: Right, right. There was no bad ones. speaker-1: And again, the visual style, the colors, and they're on a tropical island, so it's green and lush and blues and and the the what they did with the colors, like every time you see red, you kind of use something bad was about something. ⁓ the I my favorite part ⁓ visually, the my favorite thing that they did was if you remember at the beginning, they show the close ups of all the kids, like just their face in the frame and they're just standing at the staring at the frame. speaker-0: was gonna happen. Yep. speaker-1: in the first episode and then at the end they show ⁓ again and it shows how much they've changed. Yeah. They're they're tired, they're worn down. Some of them turned to savages. ⁓ I that was I thought that was amazing when they did that. Like that was a a neat thing that they did, how they bookended this the show like that. speaker-0: Yeah, and getting back to the savages, that was the best part of the whole series. Whenever Jack's group totally just loses their freaking minds and goes full, full savage. ⁓ speaker-1: That was dancing on the beach in a trance and the fire and the sticks and the masks and speaker-0: Dancing like face pain and all the crazy dancing stuff. Yeah. speaker-1: It was Very, very primal. it's just again, it's just a neat concept. Like if that happens, some people or a group is probably gonna devolve into that and and go back to their ⁓ their their basic instincts, I guess. ⁓ just kind of makes you wonder how you would react in that. Like what side would you be on? What side would you follow? Or would you be a leader or you know, it it's it's just a neat a neat story all around. It's neat to see it ⁓ speaker-0: And then how they basically come back almost immediately as soon as an adult arrives. Like they just go right back to being kids. Like immediately. Yeah. speaker-1: I you know, except for Jack because on that last shot when it's it's pulling away from the island and all the kids are walking to the boat and to the adult, if you look real close, Jack is standing. Jack doesn't move, he never walks towards the boat. So I thought that was a a neat little touch. And then yeah. speaker-0: I did see that and I I interpreted that as almost a ⁓ crap, now I'm gonna have to suffer the consequences for what I've done. Like you know what I'm saying? Because when they get right, like dude, you murdered people. You you led boys to murder multiple people and try to kill more. Like they were trying to kill Ralph. speaker-1: Yeah. Yeah, he's like he's realizing that it's over. speaker-0: Right, it's over and it's almost like he thought they would be there forever. Henry. And once yeah, Henry making another appearance. And once they're they're they're saved, it's like, ⁓ crap. And now it's back to reality. Everybody's gonna say what Jack did and you know that kid's gonna suffer the consequences, you know. speaker-1: And then you got poor Piggy who was the the voice of reason and the innocence and the the the one that was trying to be the most logical and fair. And even even at the end, I mean, spoiler alert I guess if you don't know the story, Piggy does they he does get killed. ⁓ but even even when he's they hit him in the head with a rock, he's he's got the conch, he's got the shell. speaker-0: They should know. speaker-1: And he's trying to restore order. He's trying to get him to listen to reason. He's like, wait, I've got the con I've got something to say. Let's let's work this out. And they they kill him. Like the the the the death of speaker-0: Which what happens in the novel, but that's what in the novel he dies instantly. He doesn't ⁓ I I I found that that an interesting choice. And it almost seems like he had they had no they had to do it to drag out the runtime because you figure twenty twenty-five minutes of that last episode is Ralph nursing Piggy as he's dying. speaker-1: Going get him water and running from speaker-0: Right. If you cut that out, the show th the last episode's only twenty minutes long. Could have been speaker-1: It could have probably been it could have probably been two episodes or or a ⁓ or another movie. A two speaker-0: Two and a half hour movie would have sufficed. You know, yeah. Two, two and a half hour movie would have sufficed. But the only thing I can see, like I said earlier, because it was on network television or whatever it was on, they probably had a deal to do a four part mini series. And they had the I mean, there's not enough material for that long of a show. speaker-1: Yeah, 'cause it's it's not a thick book and I mean there's an epis there's a part in the episode where they show a guy climbing a cliff for like ten minutes. Yeah. ⁓ like step by okay, we understand he's scared, he's trying to do it, he can't do it. Like yeah, we we get it. We don't need to watch it for ten minutes. speaker-0: And so the way they did the episode, they broke it down by basically concentrating on one of the four main characters in each one, and they give a little bit of a backstory, like what, maybe a little ten minute backstory of each one of right before they they went on the trip. So the first one was Piggy, the second one was Jack, then Simon, then Ralph. ⁓ Simon, I had completely forgot about his character, but as the show was going on, I I remembered. ⁓ speaker-1: If that's Yeah. Yeah, 'cause he's the one that kinda came up with Jack but saw what he was doing and wasn't kinda brave enough to to revolt against him. Correct. And then they they ended up speaker-0: And when he finally did, they killed him. Yeah. speaker-1: Yeah. Yeah, that wasn't too cool. speaker-0: But overall, I mean, it's very well done. I just I would love to see an edited version or like a fan edit. Just edit it down to the meat and potatoes, and I guarantee you you can get it down to two hours, two hours and fifteen minutes, and it would be much more enjoyable. It was I was looking at my phone. I was looking at my phone, dude, for most of these episodes because I was so bored. speaker-1: Yeah. You took the words right out of my mouth. It would have been more enjoyable. It would have been easier to get through. It would have Not that it wasn't good, but it was just kind of a chore at times. speaker-0: Yeah. It it was it was very much a chore. So because of that, I would have to give this a six. I would have much preferred it being shorter. Even even just three episodes. If you trim down an hour, I think it would have still been better. I just think four was really pushing it, man. And yeah, it ⁓ it really kind of deflated me because of that. But speaker-1: Six is fair. I would I would maybe give it another half point just for the performances and the the visual style and all that stuff. I don't think I can go up to a seven, but I think six, six and a half is very fair. speaker-0: The reason I'm saying six is because I also can't really recommend it. Like I can't tell somebody, ⁓ dude, you gotta watch Lord of the Flies. Because I would feel terrible if somebody watches this and they'd be like, Nelson, I wanted to like claw my eyeballs out. You know, I I just so it's just gonna be a six for me. It's it's very well done, very well acted, but it's just too much. It's too long and that's that's I can't say it anymore. I mean, I'm just repeating myself at this point. speaker-1: Yeah, see I actually it's funny you mentioned that I recommended it to someone at the office today. ⁓ I was talking to I I told them, yeah, I thought it was good enough to recommend it. So I I would like for the people out there to to watch it. I think y'all should check it out. or y'all could make the wrong choice and and not give it a chance. It's it's up to y'all. speaker-0: Okay, Yeah. So yeah, that's ⁓ I guess that's all I really have to say about it. There's nothing more I can say. I mean, most people know Lord of the Flies, they've seen the other movies, they've read the novel. ⁓ so if you're interested, by all means, give it a whirl. But I know it it could be a chore. Yeah. And and when I looked in IMDB, you had some people saying ten out of ten, like, ⁓ it's so well done, it's beautiful, then other people saying This is ⁓ what what was the word? I liked ⁓ pretentious. Like it was just the director and cinematographer showing off. And I kinda see that. I think it was more to I think it was more to pad the runtime to be honest with you. speaker-1: She's I agree. I agree with that. I agree with that. I I definitely don't regret watching it. I won't watch it again, but I think it's I think it's worth worth a view. So Hey. That's why you that's why the people show up here for the for the differing opinions. speaker-0: Yeah. So anything else? ⁓ we might I mean it's only been eighteen minutes, we might as well talk a little bit more. Anything else you you checked out? speaker-1: Well, I recently watched I watched Sind Help last night, speaking of Deserted Island Stranded People movies. I watched that last night. That was that was all right. I was actually not expecting to like it as much as I did. ⁓ speaker-0: So my assessment was was pretty good? speaker-1: Yeah, you had you had said something that that stuck with me and I after watching it I kind of agree. It was hard to buy into Rachel McAdams at first, being the ⁓ the prude and all that stuff. After she got on the island and she started to be kind of a badass, then okay, but the first the first part of her getting pushed around and all that stuff, I I didn't it took me a minute to buy into that. But ⁓ then she turned out to be a a crazy person. Yes. And things happen and Space. speaker-0: Gonna go ahead. Look, spoiler alert, we're we're not gonna really hold too too much back on this. speaker-1: Yeah, spoiler alert, ⁓ she kills everybody and then becomes the the the pr the the CEO of the company or whatever. speaker-0: Yeah, she becomes a hero. speaker-1: You had mentioned twists. I saw the twist of someone else or there being other people on the island or whatever. That was coming. You know that's coming as soon as she tells him not to go past the rocks or whatever. I did not see the fiance showing up. And ⁓ and I and I really didn't think that she would have killed her. I thought maybe she would have misled her or led her away some kind of way. I didn't think she would throw her off a damn cliff and speaker-0: It was a shock, yeah. speaker-1: Befra buried in the sand with her with her engagement ring sticking out of the sand. Right. ⁓ but I mean it was it was funny, it was gross when she when she killed the pig. That was disgusting. ⁓ yeah, I I I enjoyed it. ⁓ I would I would watch it again. I would I'm not gonna buy it, but I would watch it again. That put speaker-0: Right. It it it was just an okay movie to me. I mean, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. ⁓ I enjoyed it. I wasn't bored, that's for sure. Right. I I knew I was like, Okay, it's gonna be like the village. There's gonna be like either civilization, there's gonna be something there. But I didn't think that she was going there at night and like chilling and taking a bath and everything else, you know, and then she would go back to him saying, ⁓ yeah. speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: And it makes sense now you're wondering why she was so happy. But it's because she she wasn't started. She was she was right. And she was basically keeping him prisoner there, you know. Right. It's weird. speaker-1: She was the queen of the island. You know, when she Right. And when she well she has the knife, when she comes up with the knife, ⁓ look what washed off shore. Washed off shore. ⁓ no, she got that somewhere. And I mean you see the damn boat. Like earlier on, before you even know about the mansion, the house, you see some people in a boat. So ⁓ but yeah, it was ⁓ it was there was twist enough to where I was still surprised by some of the things that happened. speaker-0: And then I wasn't waiting for her to go back or to be rescued and then like she's this celebrity because she survived this horrible incident and all of that like that was kinda funny. speaker-1: Everyone's fawning over her and she murdered a guy with a with a golf club. speaker-0: She murdered a guy with a golf club and then she murdered his fiance and the poor boatcare. speaker-1: Fisherman, yeah. Yeah. yeah, I didn't I didn't think she would actually kill him. I thought they would come to some type of understanding in the end and they would both make it off. No, she she killed him. She murdered his face. ⁓ so I I did I watched that. I watched ⁓ something not very good that I watched was Megan two point ⁓ I did not like it. ⁓ I like the first one. I really liked the first one. Yeah. I did not like this one. They got too much into the text comedy well, not really the com the comedy in it I thought was good, but they got too much into okay well of course now they're using her as a weapon. And you know, ⁓ another country's gonna get her and there's this other android that comes around. I just it it lost me. I found myself scrolling on my phone. speaker-0: And that's pretty much what everybody's saying. You know, it's like speaker-1: And I had heard that it wasn't as I I had heard it wasn't nearly as good, but I was thinking, ⁓ well, I'm gonna give it a shot. I'm gonna and ⁓ they the the people were right. I watched ⁓ I watched a movie called Foxcatcher that has ⁓ that I'd always kind of wanted to see. ⁓ it's a bo it's a true story about these two brothers in the eighties. They're wrestlers like Olympic wrestlers, Greco Roman wrestling, not WWE. and they they joined the team of this guy, John DuPont, who's the the DuPont chemical company, ⁓ DuPont plastics and all that stuff. That that family. He started a ⁓ he started a wrestling team basically and he wanted to go and win world competitions and win the Olympics in eighty six and just what happens with them. ⁓ true story, Steve Carell plays John DuPont. Say what you want about Steve Carell. Unrecognizable Yeah. That's great. The speaker-0: Great actor. speaker-1: And that's that's what made this movie. It's a it's not a it's kind of a slow movie, not a whole lot happens, I guess. But the performances, ⁓ Steve Carell, Mark Ruffalo plays one of the brothers. But when I tell you Channing Tatum kind of nails it. Like I've always I started out not liking Channing Tatum too much 'cause I kinda thought he was just one of these pretty boy guys. The more I saw him in interviews and and acting, like in roles, I I liked him more and more. But this ⁓ This sealed the deal for me. He was ⁓ so I'm not gonna claim to be an expert on this or anything, but Jacob did wrestling this year in school. And ⁓ I got to be around that a little bit. We got to go to some matches and all this stuff, and these guys, they move a certain way. And the coaches, they you know, the ones that have been doing it a long time, they have a certain posture or they have a certain demeanor. And after being around it, I was able to recognize it in his acting and it was like phenomenal. Like I would have never known that he's an actor playing a wrestler. I would have thought this guy's been doing this his entire life. ⁓ so just for the the story is interesting too. but just for the the the acting and the the movie making of it, it was it was really, really good. Two hours, a little bit over two hours, it felt like it was about forty five minutes. It's it's one of the speaker-0: movie you watch that I I wanna watch ⁓ the Billboards movie, the two Billboards speaker-1: ⁓ three billboards in something, Missouri. I think everyone just calls it three billboards. Yeah. Yes, it is still on it is still on Max, I believe, on HBO Max. I'd I would like for you to watch that one with my favorite actor of all time. Woody Harrelson is in it. speaker-0: I need to watch that. Yeah, but like ⁓ what's his name? ⁓ Sam Rockwell. I was about to say Worthington. Yeah, Sam Rockwell. I hear I hear he was great in it. So but he's kind of good in everything. speaker-1: Sam Rockwell. Yeah, yeah. He's he steals the scene in every in every movie he's in. Yeah, you definitely I I need you to watch that one because ⁓ it's it's really good. His greatest performance that could happen. speaker-0: Regular or mental? speaker-1: That is his three second scene in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. speaker-0: He's also in the very beginning when they mug April. He's one of the thugs. Like he standing he says bad timing. speaker-1: That's him, yeah. That's yeah. His first I guess his first role. speaker-0: I see him, yeah. Yeah, I think it's his first acting credit. Yep. ⁓ I watched last night Evil Dead Rise, speaking of Sam Raimi. I mean, he did the original Evil Dead movies. And ⁓ it was okay. It wasn't scary at all, okay? Uh-huh. But yes, in hell. It wasn't scary, but it was pretty gnarly. I mean, they the violence in it and the ⁓ the acting, the performance of the girl who gets possessed. speaker-1: Yeah. Yep. You speaker-0: by the Dead Eyed or whatever they're called. ⁓ she was she was excellent. And the her sister is was awesome. She's kinda like the final girl type thing. So I I enjoyed it. That's a bloody movie. It's very violent, but it's not scary. Like not in the least. It's not for the kids. ⁓ and I remember liking the Evil Dead remake in twenty thirteen. But ⁓ so I think there's a new Evil Dead movie coming out by the guy who did this one. speaker-1: I speaker-0: So that's kinda why I wanted to watch it. speaker-1: think ⁓ I don't think I've ever seen any of those. Unless I've watched one with you and didn't didn't remember speaker-0: Probably seen Army of Darkness though, huh? speaker-1: ⁓ man, so long ago and I don't yeah, I don't remember. speaker-0: Technically like the third one that's part three. There's Evil Dead One and Two and then Army of Darkness. Evil Dead One is a low budget horror movie, which I I really enjoy. Evil Dead Two is basically the same exact movie, but they made it a comedy, and I can't stand it. That's like the beloved one that everybody loves. Yeah, and I just I just don't I just that's a Halloween three to me. I just don't get it. And speaker-1: Likes, yeah. speaker-0: Then Army of Darkness, I love that one. speaker-1: So I'm getting my franchises mixed up because what's the one that we watched that was a remake of a black and white movie but was like a shot for shot remake? That's Night of the Living Dead? Yeah. Night of the Living Dead is speaker-0: Night of the Living Dead. The Tom Savini version of Night of the Living Dead, yeah. speaker-1: Yeah, I get I get my ⁓ I get my franchises kinda mixed up. speaker-0: It's a shot for shot remake at the beginning, but then it kind of you know, it it's almost a shot for shot remake, but it's different enough to where it's not the exact it's not like Psycho, whenever they did the Vince Vaughn version, when it's like frame by frame, a shot for shot remake of that movie, which was pointless. They said the reason they did is because people don't like to watch ⁓ black and white movies or something. I don't know, it's so weird why they even did that. speaker-1: Tell you what, I watched Psycho not within the last week or so. Yeah, I loved it. I was I was not expecting to like it, but I thought, hey, it's on T V or whatever. It was it was streaming on something and this is a movie that apparently Yeah. And I I really, really liked it. I really liked it. ⁓ speaker-0: Overwatch. Your boy Anthony Perkins was he was awesome. Especially his little kind of monologue thing at the end. He was great. Not at the end. When he's talking to her, when she first shows up and he makes her a sandwich and they're talking, yeah. That I mean, he killed it. That was great. speaker-1: Speaking of speaking of And didn't didn't that movie end with him just kinda staring into the camera, am I speaker-0: Kinda smiling and then you hear his his mom's inner monologue, you know. speaker-1: Yeah. That's something I feel like I I need to own at some point. I I I saw it streaming, but I don't own it. I need to I need to probably get that one. ⁓ yeah, I liked I liked Cycle. speaker-0: And so Jamie and I are watching I've watched five episodes of The Burroughs. And that's a Netflix series. It's very akin to Stranger Things. It's just in a ⁓ an assisted living, like a ⁓ yeah not a nursing home, but assisted l assisted living community. speaker-1: Is it the same ⁓ people that did Stranger Things? speaker-0: produced by the Duffer Brothers, but it's written and directed by other people. So I think it's one of those they probably s hey, Duffer brothers, y'all might like this and they loved it. And so they're just producing it, you know. speaker-1: Yeah. Put your name on this so we can get a bunch of people to watch. So it's it's pretty good though. That's ⁓ Alfred Melita, right? Isn't that? speaker-0: Yep. It's not as good as Stranger Things, but Alfred Molina is phenomenal. Gina Davis is great. Bill Pullman's in it. ⁓ the I can't think of the lady. She's the black lady. She is you've seen Scrooged, right? With Bill Murray. speaker-1: The lady. Yeah. It's I've seen it. I don't remember it for some reason. Like I've seen it multiple systems. speaker-0: The lady that plays his assistant in that movie is is in this and her husband is he's from he's in The Wire, but I've never watched The Wire. But anyway, great. Like I really enjoy it. I mean it's it's not gonna set the world on fire, but it's definitely fun. speaker-1: It's is it a like a limited series thing? ⁓ one outside? speaker-0: You know, it doesn't say that but kind of with the big reveal and everything of what's actually going on, I don't know how they could keep doing it. The only way you can keep doing it is if you kill the whole cast and then the next season is a whole different cast, but then you do the same thing over again. So I'm not I would to me it would probably be a one and done, but who knows? speaker-1: Yeah. So Yeah. Yeah. Yeah and I'd seen it come up on my little watch this next kind of thing, but ⁓ I hadn't really paid it any mind. speaker-0: It's a good little show. Nicholas Landry would probably like it more than Stranger Things. speaker-1: Okay. speaker-0: I could see you liking it more than Stranger Things. speaker-1: Yeah, 'cause speaker-0: ⁓ The kids kind of get annoying, you know. Kids tend to do that to me in shows. ⁓ so it's kind of up and down on that. But this show is man, I I just love watching Alfred Molina. Like ⁓ he's just great, especially in this. Like this is one of my favorite things I've seen him in. speaker-1: I'll have to check it out. I might that might be my next ⁓ my next little series that I put on. Yeah, that's cool. I remember you had saying that you would you would like to ⁓ I'd have to check it out. So is there ⁓ is there anything else coming up on the horizon that you'd like to ⁓ that you'd like to mention or talk about? speaker-0: So if you've stuck with us this long, which I have a feeling most people have not, but so I decided that I think I know what I'm doing and I'm going to direct a movie. speaker-1: Well speaker-0: I was inspired by the film squatch gentleman who wrote and directed to Ty Modi. Enjoyed watching that. Yeah. And of course, I mean, I know you know that I've mentioned, man, we can make a movie. I've said that crap before. speaker-1: Which was ⁓ God, we've been talking about that since we were kids. Like we could do that. speaker-0: We could do that. So I said, you know what? These guys are everyday guys like us. They can do it. We can do it. So I I wrote a little script. I I've been gathering my equipment. I have been training myself on cinematography as best as I can. Yeah. And the equipment that goes with the camera, which is going to be my iPhone 17. That's also Like I'm doing that on purpose. I I want to see I want to do it on my phone, you know? ⁓ just kind of just to see. I mean, I've watched a lot of short films that people did on phones and they look great. So I ⁓ yeah, I figured I'd give it a give it a stab. I want it to be twenty minutes, you know, type of thing. Maybe it'll be a little bit less, maybe a little bit more, but I think I can get it to about twenty minutes just from what I have written down and speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: Going on because dude, I've been replaying the shots in my head. It's gonna be shot filmed at my brother's house. speaker-1: So So is is this something where you wanna give the folks a little ⁓ a little idea of what this is gonna be about or we're gonna keep it wraps a little bit longer? speaker-0: No. Watch the teaser trailer. Uh-huh. It is on the channel. It's the last video I've released. Watch the teaser trailer. I mean, I think it's pretty obvious kind of what it's about, but apparently it's not because most people are like, dude, what's it about? What's it about? So I like the fact that people are intrigued and want to know. But ⁓ as soon as I get some stuff shot, I'll make a ⁓ another teaser trailer. with with a review of what's going on, but I don't want to give anything away yet. We haven't even shot the off on it. But I will say it is in the sci fi horror genre. I'll say that. ⁓ so it's not gonna be I'm gonna try not to make it boring or ⁓ anything. speaker-1: I like it. This is happening. The the the movie is basically written. There's a cast. We have locations. We have locations set up. speaker-0: It's inspired by true events. speaker-1: Inspired by true events, that's right. speaker-0: It's all it's all in there. So I I I'm looking forward to it. I think it's gonna be fun. And if it's terrible, I guess I'll still release it anyway because I released a trailer. I mean, I can't release a trailer without releasing a movie. speaker-1: Man, it's a labor of love. It's not gonna be terrible. But we'll see. speaker-0: We'll see how it goes. I mean I have it in my mind how I'm gonna shoot it and boy, it looks good in my mind. speaker-1: Here's the thing. Here's the thing. Do it do it for you. Yeah. Yeah. Do it for you and practical if speaker-0: It's gonna be all practical effects. There's gonna be nothing ⁓ no CGI. There's no budget here. I mean, I'm spending my money, and ⁓ my wife has been very patient with me spending money on this. So yeah. But it's gonna be fun. I'm looking I'm looking forward to Jeff Corbello from Red Dog Terrain is gonna be one of two stars. It's still gonna be two two people in it. So three, but two main characters. speaker-1: Yeah. That's gonna be fun. I can't wait to start ⁓ to start doing that and helping out and start start getting into it. speaker-0: I'm just saying, the movie's your namesake, so you're a part of this. speaker-1: That's right. That's right. And I will I will lend my name and any help that I can. Any other assistance that I can. speaker-0: Nick's gonna be part of the crew and ⁓ he's gonna help make the magic happen. We'll have ⁓ we'll we're gonna record some behind the scenes stuff. I'll have somebody with a phone videoing us making the movie. So we'll have a little a little BTS ⁓ video that follows. So speaker-1: I'm gonna have to get back in the gym. speaker-0: Yep, get back in the gym. speaker-1: After after my week of sickness. speaker-0: So the only other thing I wanna talk about real quick, when I got I haven't even opened it yet, but you and I both purchased. speaker-1: Yeah. Yeah. Got it sitting on the shelf. I actually opened mine. ⁓ there's some there's some pretty sweet little goodies in there. ⁓ posters. speaker-0: Best Robin Hood movie ever made. ⁓ did you have an open Well, whenever you and I we need to review it. So we need to watch it and then when we review it, we'll we'll kind of go over what's in the what's in the box. speaker-1: What's in the box? Yeah, I'm good with that. I speaker-0: Yeah, Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves, for those who are just listening. speaker-1: I would have I would have watched it when I got it, but I I actually watched it the crappy version, not that that long ago. So I didn't wanna watch it again so close. speaker-0: I'm so happy this one has the theatrical cut on it. Yeah. Because I just do not enjoy the extended cut. speaker-1: Yeah, it's it changes the movie. I don't one last thing when if we're talking about physical media, I got the history of violence four K. Ooh. I ended up getting that and why it looks looks really good. Looks really good. Okay. Just a good movie. Yeah, I wasn't I wasn't going to, but then ⁓ but then I did. ⁓ So so that happened. But yeah, we watched it. ⁓ I ⁓ Jacob and I watched it. He had never seen it, had to had to kind of scoot through a couple of more graphic For him. speaker-0: Yeah, I forget. They do have a ⁓ an intimate scene in it, yeah. speaker-1: Yeah. There's some mommy daddy time a couple of times in that one. speaker-0: Dude, that scene in his front yard is awesome. I love that scene. speaker-1: Look, you can see him change because you kinda don't know the whole time. You kinda don't know if he is who they think he is or if he's but when they've got a son and and they're holding the son and they're like, just admit who you are, we'll let him go, and you see Vigo Mortensen's character change and you see him become Joey, Joey Q Sank. ⁓ that that did it for me. I think I might have watched that part twice. Yeah, really, really good movie. And a movie that I've probably said here on the channel several times before, I did not like it the first time I saw it. I was expecting an action movie. I know. I was expecting something totally different. Watched it, didn't like it, let it marinate for a little while, watched it again a few months later, have loved it ever since. So it looks it looks really good. It's a good 4K. speaker-0: That's What's his name that directed it? ⁓ speaker-1: Soda burger. Yeah. Yeah. It's good. And the it's an arrow release, not arrowhead. It's an arrow release and ⁓ it comes with like a little booklet. speaker-0: Soderberg, yeah, yeah. Is that right? No it's David Cronenberg, that's what I thought. speaker-1: Collenberg. Is that what I said? That's not what I said. speaker-0: You said Soderbergh. He's yeah, he remember we I mean, this dude is coming up everywhere to die for he's the one that speaker-1: To die for and ⁓ Jason X. Yeah. speaker-0: Jason X, we want to not two. speaker-1: Ready or not to. I got my burgs mixed up. ⁓ but yeah, it it it really is a good looking ⁓ good looking four K and the the it's a neat set. It comes with a like a booklet, production notes and ⁓ it's got the menu, like the the booklet is it looks like the menu from the diamond. speaker-0: ⁓ from his diner, yeah, yeah. speaker-1: I said coffee. so yeah, it's it's it's really good. I I really enjoyed watching it. It's something that I'll I'll definitely be watching again. speaker-0: And I mean you get Ed Harris with one eye. speaker-1: Ed Harris, ⁓ John Hurt. Is it John Hurt? William Hurt? William Hurt William Yeah. speaker-0: William Hurt. William Hurt. William Hurt's his brother. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. John Hurt is from Alien. He's the one that the the Alien comes out of his chest. speaker-1: Yeah. Yeah. I mixed up my burgs and my hurts. speaker-0: He is I love that guy. It's he he died way too young, but he he was so good. 'Cause remember he was in ⁓ Mr. Brooks with Kevin Costner. He is ⁓ his imaginary friend. speaker-1: ⁓ huh. Which man, I need to watch that again. I haven't I've only seen it the one time. But ⁓ I need to watch that again for sure. speaker-0: That's on my most ⁓ w that's on my underrated movies list. Yep. speaker-1: Mr. Brooks I remember that. Yeah. Different for something different from Kevin Costner too. Mm-hmm. So speaker-0: All right, well I guess that'll about wrap it up. Now we've been rambling on a little while. speaker-1: Yeah. Got some cool stuff cool stuff coming up. Y'all y'all pay attention. Tune in. speaker-0: Yep. And like I said, watch the trailer for the Landry incident, which is the name of my movie. And I hope to have it out before Halloween. Hopefully in October that is is what I'm shooting for. speaker-1: So just in time for spooky season. speaker-0: Yep. All right. Like, subscribe, train your friends. We'll see you later. speaker-1: See ya. And see.
