- 0:00Speaker 1: We didn't have to do the hail dance. Good morning, friends.
- 0:03Speaker 2: It sure is nice to have some rain and a
- 0:05Speaker 2: cooler day on store.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Mm-hmm. It's been long overdue, I think. Oh, indeed. Indeed.
- 0:14Speaker 2: It was interesting this morning listening to the thunder, and
- 0:18Speaker 2: it was kind of cool.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Almost forgot what it sounded like. It's still raining, and.
- 0:23Speaker 2: I think we'll get a good, nice soaking today, it
- 0:27Speaker 2: seems like, and Should be nice and cool tomorrow morning. Yep. And, uh, yeah,
- 0:32Speaker 2: we've been, uh, we're off to a busy start this
- 0:34Speaker 2: September at the dealership and it's very busy around the
- 0:37Speaker 2: community as it always is. As things get going again
- 0:41Speaker 2: in September, uh, school's back, football season's on, got the
- 0:45Speaker 2: softball season going, got lots of events, uh, got tomorrow night.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Ability Works, the fund, is having their big fundraiser at
- 0:54Speaker 2: the country club.
- 0:56Speaker 1: And, uh, They do such great work.
- 0:59Speaker 2: With intellectual and development disabilities, trying to help people reach
- 1:04Speaker 2: their potential and helping them with daily living skills and
- 1:08Speaker 2: employment skills. It's a great, great organization. And then tomorrow night,
- 1:13Speaker 2: we had concern on a few weeks ago, their battle
- 1:17Speaker 2: in Bartlesville. Kind of a unique event, the lip sync competition.
- 1:21Speaker 1: There you go.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Concern is a great organization too. Churches United for Community Concern.
- 1:31Speaker 2: They provide support for individuals and families who lack resources
- 1:35Speaker 2: for urgent services and those who are unable to manage
- 1:38Speaker 2: their finances. So all kinds of things from food to
- 1:42Speaker 2: money to money planning. Everything that goes along with it.
- 1:48Speaker 2: It's all started from a group through the churches in Bartlesville,
- 1:54Speaker 2: getting together and creating this united organization. And now it's
- 1:59Speaker 2: continued now for many decades. Great stuff going on. I
- 2:04Speaker 2: was looking at the community calendar on the chamber website.
- 2:08Speaker 1: There's so much more.
- 2:09Speaker 2: We've got the book club play that Bartlesville is having
- 2:14Speaker 2: this weekend.
- 2:15Speaker 1: We've got....
- 2:17Speaker 2: We had this interesting event on a year or two ago,
- 2:21Speaker 2: the Sky Trail Adventure Challenge.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, with Phillip.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Yeah, Phillip Frank, yeah. Yeah, and that's Saturday morning out
- 2:30Speaker 2: at the Boy Scout Park on the way to the Toposka.
- 2:38Speaker 2: And it's a great event, kind of different. You check
- 2:41Speaker 2: that out. The Civitan Club has their paddle party. And
- 2:47Speaker 2: then getting going with the races this fall. The Just
- 2:50Speaker 2: for Today 5K Fun Run is.
- 2:54Speaker 1: On, I think it's on Sunday. And then Run the
- 2:56Speaker 1: Streets is next weekend.
- 2:58Speaker 2: We've got Music on the Lawn at Frank Phillips' home
- 3:02Speaker 2: on September 15th. The Oldies and Goodies Car Show is
- 3:05Speaker 2: right around the corner. And that's just in the next
- 3:08Speaker 2: week or so.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Oh, my gosh. When they say fall events, they weren't kidding.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Keeps us busy.
- 3:17Speaker 2: I'm headed off Tuesday to the Toyota National Dealer meeting, too.
- 3:21Speaker 1: So I won't be here for next week's show. And
- 3:24Speaker 1: I'll see if I can get William or someone else
- 3:28Speaker 1: to come. Another tall person. We'll see.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Can't promise that. But it's always a fun event. This
- 3:37Speaker 2: is Toyota's big national event. meeting for dealers. We get
- 3:41Speaker 2: a glimpse at future product. We talk about what's been
- 3:45Speaker 2: going on, how they're handling different, you know, just going
- 3:51Speaker 2: to market.
- 3:51Speaker 1: And, you know.
- 3:53Speaker 2: The big issue in Toyota these last few years, and
- 3:57Speaker 2: it has not let up, is, you know, we just
- 4:00Speaker 2: The high demand for Toyotas and just not being able
- 4:04Speaker 2: to build enough of the most popular vehicles. We do
- 4:07Speaker 2: have a pretty good selection of trucks, and they're very popular, Tundra, Tacoma. But,
- 4:13Speaker 2: you know, things like RAV4, Camry, Corolla, really are bread
- 4:18Speaker 2: and butter. You know, we almost never have them on
- 4:20Speaker 2: the ground this month. When I last looked, we had
- 4:24Speaker 2: 15 or 16 Toyotas on the ground.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Our objective is 33.
- 4:30Speaker 2: So there are going to be a bunch more arriving.
- 4:35Speaker 2: They come and go really fast. We've got a great
- 4:39Speaker 2: selection of really been building our inventory of 4Runner. So
- 4:45Speaker 2: if that's something you're interested in, you can come take
- 4:48Speaker 2: a look at those. People do like to see the
- 4:52Speaker 2: vehicle before they buy it, and sometimes that's hard. But
- 4:54Speaker 2: we'll do the best we can when one comes in.
- 4:58Speaker 2: I'll get you to take a chance before we deliver
- 5:00Speaker 2: it to the customer that's pre-purchased it.
- 5:04Speaker 1: You have to take a look-see.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Yeah, and we've got cool, one of the 4Runners we
- 5:10Speaker 2: have is a Trail Hunter, which is.
- 5:12Speaker 1: A new trim level for 4Runner, and it is super cool.
- 5:16Speaker 2: It's got all the off-road stuff, very cool vehicle, very, very,
- 5:24Speaker 2: that's a, a snorkel on it.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Um, perfect for this weather.
- 5:28Speaker 2: And if you're going, you've got to go through the,
- 5:31Speaker 2: the Creek on your way to town from home. Uh,
- 5:35Speaker 2: this is your vehicle. Uh, it takes, it's, it's, it
- 5:39Speaker 2: gets its air from up above the, the door line.
- 5:43Speaker 2: And instead of out of the traditional air, air, uh, system.
- 5:48Speaker 2: So it's, it is super cool. Uh, great looking vehicle. Uh,
- 5:53Speaker 2: And lots of other great vehicles. One thing I thought
- 5:57Speaker 2: we'd talk a little bit about today is, you know,
- 5:59Speaker 2: what makes Dunges Toyota different.
- 6:02Speaker 1: We try to keep it simple at Dunges.
- 6:05Speaker 2: It starts with our market-based pricing and our non-commissioned sales team.
- 6:09Speaker 2: So what market-based pricing is, is we have tools that
- 6:13Speaker 2: allow us to see what vehicles really are selling for
- 6:16Speaker 2: rather than how they're advertised.
- 6:18Speaker 1: We discount our cars regularly. from the get go.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Uh, we, we don't, you know, play a lot of games,
- 6:25Speaker 2: mark them up so we can go back and forth
- 6:28Speaker 2: a bunch of times and, and then finally come to
- 6:30Speaker 2: an agreement. We tried to take and make it as
- 6:32Speaker 2: simple and easy as possible. It doesn't mean that there's
- 6:35Speaker 2: not some flexibility. We still negotiate, but, but there's a
- 6:39Speaker 2: lot less than often people think. Um, we've got, uh,
- 6:43Speaker 2: our team because they are non-commissioned. They're focused on you.
- 6:46Speaker 2: They really, uh, They don't worry about the profit that
- 6:52Speaker 2: we make selling the car. That's not in their pay
- 6:54Speaker 2: plan at all. Of course, we need to make a profit, but.
- 6:57Speaker 1: That's not what motivates them.
- 6:59Speaker 2: They really want to take care of their customers and
- 7:02Speaker 2: guide you through the purchase process and save you time
- 7:04Speaker 2: and money. We had a customer recently who said they
- 7:11Speaker 2: had actually bought one, and then they came back for
- 7:14Speaker 2: a second vehicle in the family, and they They told
- 7:17Speaker 2: us that the reason they did that is they didn't
- 7:19Speaker 2: get the salesman ick.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Good. That's a lot of the gold.
- 7:24Speaker 2: People might know what that is. There's great comments in
- 7:31Speaker 2: our Google reviews if you want to go out and
- 7:34Speaker 2: take a look at those before you engage with us.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Lots of great comments from people from far and wide
- 7:41Speaker 2: that have worked with us on their vehicle purchase. We
- 7:45Speaker 2: do really try to to walk the talk on that too.
- 7:49Speaker 2: You hear a lot of people saying they do that
- 7:51Speaker 2: in the car business, but it's real at Dunge's because
- 7:55Speaker 2: of our great team and, and how we organize our, our,
- 8:00Speaker 2: our sales process and the whole dealership really, you know, the, the,
- 8:05Speaker 2: some of the, there's been some news recently about reinforcement
- 8:10Speaker 2: actions by the federal trade commission on, on all kinds
- 8:14Speaker 2: of advertising where pricing is not consistent. And this isn't
- 8:20Speaker 2: a deal for Dunge's because we've always been very consistent.
- 8:23Speaker 2: We have no dock fee. We don't do dealer add-ons.
- 8:28Speaker 2: I mean, if you want to add window tint, you
- 8:30Speaker 2: can do that.
- 8:31Speaker 1: But you're in charge on that.
- 8:34Speaker 2: You know, so we're still– You know, they've they've Oklahoma
- 8:40Speaker 2: Motor Vehicle Commission just recently updated our advertising rules in
- 8:44Speaker 2: the state of Oklahoma to align with the Federal Trade Commission.
- 8:47Speaker 1: And none of this is particularly new. It's always been
- 8:50Speaker 1: the way, you know, how we're supposed to do it.
- 8:53Speaker 2: But a lot of times, you know, they would put
- 8:56Speaker 2: a price and not put their documentation fee in there
- 8:59Speaker 2: or not add the dealer add ons to the price.
- 9:03Speaker 1: You know, I still hear horror stories and and.
- 9:07Speaker 2: And, you know, just this morning I went out and
- 9:10Speaker 2: looked at some websites to see what I could see.
- 9:12Speaker 2: And most of them, they're all pretty much all complying
- 9:15Speaker 2: with the letter of the law. But they still have
- 9:18Speaker 2: these things they do, kind of a show game where
- 9:21Speaker 2: they entice you with these offers.
- 9:25Speaker 1: You know, I.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Saw one this morning where they were off on 0% interest.
- 9:33Speaker 1: On a Tundra, a Toyota Tundra.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Mm-hmm. And in the very small fine print below, it
- 9:39Speaker 2: said that is a buy-down offer, and it may affect the.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Price of the vehicle.
- 9:46Speaker 2: So just be aware how that works is we can
- 9:51Speaker 2: buy with the bank. Once you're approved, the dealer can
- 9:54Speaker 2: pay to lower the interest rate to anything we want.
- 9:58Speaker 2: We can offer you 0%. on any Tundra, but we're
- 10:02Speaker 2: not going to say 0% and show you a $ 3, 000
- 10:06Speaker 2: or $ 4, 000 discount.
- 10:07Speaker 1: On the vehicle and then take that away from you.
- 10:11Speaker 2: It's a switcheroo thing where they're offering you an enticing offer.
- 10:16Speaker 2: You assume I can get the 0% on the advertised
- 10:19Speaker 2: price That's not.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Necessarily the case. Wow. You know, there's just other ways
- 10:26Speaker 1: they do it.
- 10:26Speaker 2: I saw an offer for a thing called Engines for Life. Normally,
- 10:32Speaker 2: that's a warranty, obviously. And there's one offered by a
- 10:38Speaker 2: company called BG Products. They're a good company. We sell
- 10:41Speaker 2: BG Products. We can actually... offer the same Engines for
- 10:45Speaker 2: Life product, but we're very transparent about it. In order
- 10:48Speaker 2: to get the BG product Engines for Life warranty, you
- 10:52Speaker 2: have to follow the BG product's maintenance recommendations and use
- 10:57Speaker 2: their products in all of your maintenance intervals.
- 11:00Speaker 1: That's the only way they can do it. That's right.
- 11:04Speaker 2: So we don't say, here, Engines for Life, you get
- 11:08Speaker 2: this for no cost just by buying from us, and
- 11:11Speaker 2: then you find out later, well, that makes my my
- 11:14Speaker 2: oil change costs quite a bit more and that I've
- 11:18Speaker 2: got to do the, the brake flushes, the radiator flushes,
- 11:23Speaker 2: everything they recommend, which, you know, sometimes are necessary to
- 11:28Speaker 2: maintain your vehicle. We do, like I said, we do
- 11:30Speaker 2: offer them, but, but it's how it's presented and offered
- 11:33Speaker 2: to the customer that I think gets misleading.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:38Speaker 2: I had mentioned before the dealer add-ons thing. This is,
- 11:42Speaker 2: You know, it's stuff like we mentioned, tent. But there's
- 11:47Speaker 2: other strange things. A lot of times they'll put together
- 11:49Speaker 2: a package and say it's a, you know, a blank
- 11:52Speaker 2: dealer protection package or something. It comes with things like
- 11:58Speaker 2: cup holder protectors. Have you ever thought, well, boy, I
- 12:03Speaker 2: sure need to protect my cup holder.
- 12:05Speaker 3: That's right up there with the left-handed monkey wrench.
- 12:09Speaker 2: But, of course, if you want a cup holder protector,
- 12:11Speaker 2: I suppose, yes, if you have a thing you put
- 12:13Speaker 2: in there that kind of scuffs it up, that might
- 12:16Speaker 2: be nice if you were wanting to protect your cup
- 12:19Speaker 2: holder or your cup.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Yeah, some people, you know.
- 12:24Speaker 2: But I'm not going to show you a price on
- 12:27Speaker 2: your vehicle with a discount. And then add back my
- 12:32Speaker 2: dock fee and some cup holder protectors and window tint
- 12:35Speaker 2: and door sill protectors.
- 12:38Speaker 1: And on and on and on. Sometimes a thousand or
- 12:42Speaker 1: more dollars.
- 12:43Speaker 2: I'm a little obsessed with this subject.
- 12:49Speaker 1: I do mystery shopping. Oh, okay. So I reach out
- 12:52Speaker 1: to dealers. I reach out to my.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Sales team to see how they respond to leads and
- 12:58Speaker 2: what they say.
- 12:59Speaker 1: And ask questions. You're the undercover car guy. Yeah. We
- 13:04Speaker 1: ought to be doing a little video. I thought about
- 13:08Speaker 1: doing video. Little reels, you know, for the social media.
- 13:12Speaker 2: That'd be cool. You know, dealers have done that. And
- 13:16Speaker 2: sometimes they get in trouble with their friends.
- 13:20Speaker 1: In the business. I think on the show here I
- 13:27Speaker 1: can talk.
- 13:27Speaker 2: About it pretty safely and I'm sure somebody will listen
- 13:31Speaker 2: and say hey you should listen to what he said
- 13:36Speaker 2: but you're all my friends here in Bartlesville but the
- 13:45Speaker 2: I was dealing with a dealer down in Texas a
- 13:48Speaker 2: large dealer and they had They had a huge discount
- 13:52Speaker 2: on the vehicle. But then they did start adding up
- 13:56Speaker 2: different things, and I couldn't pin them down. And finally,
- 14:01Speaker 2: I was trying not to give them my contact information,
- 14:04Speaker 2: and they finally said, well, to get you a real price,
- 14:07Speaker 2: I need to know your address. And that just made
- 14:11Speaker 2: me even more skeptical. But what we were talking about
- 14:14Speaker 2: was their $ 2, 500 dealer add-on, I was wanting to buy
- 14:20Speaker 2: that vehicle for the price they advertised, but I didn't
- 14:23Speaker 2: want this other stuff. And he said, basically, no way, Jose,
- 14:28Speaker 2: you cannot do that. So anyway, that's what's not simple.
- 14:33Speaker 2: We try to be straightforward and straightforward pricing. We also
- 14:39Speaker 2: give you great tools to help you shop.
- 14:41Speaker 1: So one of the places where there's a lot.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Of sometimes confusion by the consumer in the sales process
- 14:50Speaker 2: is in the different, you know, when you start negotiating,
- 14:53Speaker 2: you've got the price of the vehicle, your trade-in, the
- 14:57Speaker 2: interest rate and term of the loan if you're going
- 15:00Speaker 2: to finance the vehicle.
- 15:03Speaker 1: You know, there's these other issues we talked about, like
- 15:05Speaker 1: the dealer add-ons and all these other things.
- 15:08Speaker 2: So, you know, what they try to do is get
- 15:10Speaker 2: you to focus on one thing, and then they move
- 15:13Speaker 2: money around from within the dealer to show you more
- 15:17Speaker 2: through what they call trade allowance on your trade-in. Or,
- 15:21Speaker 2: you know, they may actually raise the price of the
- 15:24Speaker 2: car then and show more for the trade, but they're
- 15:29Speaker 2: moving it from the other price.
- 15:31Speaker 1: A lot of moving parts there.
- 15:33Speaker 2: And then what they show you is not either number.
- 15:36Speaker 2: They just show you a payment.
- 15:38Speaker 1: And, you know, so.
- 15:42Speaker 2: At Dunges, you can go online and use the same
- 15:45Speaker 2: tool we do to price all that, to get your payment,
- 15:49Speaker 2: to see the price of the vehicle, to devalue your
- 15:52Speaker 2: trade in, all by technology, all by validated third-party systems.
- 15:59Speaker 2: We don't play with those numbers at all. They're all
- 16:03Speaker 2: in there straight up. So there's a place to change
- 16:07Speaker 2: your down payment, see what a different amount down does
- 16:10Speaker 2: to the payment.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Change the term.
- 16:12Speaker 2: You can see the incentives, rebates, and other special offers
- 16:16Speaker 2: from the manufacturer if it's a new car.
- 16:20Speaker 1: You can, like I said, add your trade.
- 16:22Speaker 2: You get a Kelley Blue Book offer on the vehicle there.
- 16:25Speaker 2: And we will, of course, need to confirm it. A
- 16:28Speaker 2: lot of times we can give a little more. But
- 16:31Speaker 2: the point is that it's transparent.
- 16:34Speaker 1: It's easy to see. It's the same tool.
- 16:36Speaker 2: We use when we When we work up your offer,
- 16:40Speaker 2: when you're in the showroom, and you can do it
- 16:42Speaker 2: right on the website, just pick a vehicle, click calculate
- 16:46Speaker 2: my payment.
- 16:47Speaker 1: You'll have to put your zip code in.
- 16:49Speaker 2: We don't require you to give us your name and
- 16:52Speaker 2: address and phone number to do that. You can just
- 16:55Speaker 2: go in and play and get a lot of your
- 16:59Speaker 2: questions answered about can I afford that car, which is
- 17:03Speaker 2: a lot of times what people are, are looking at
- 17:07Speaker 2: when they do it. Most people do finance the car,
- 17:11Speaker 2: and so it does come down to the payment. But
- 17:14Speaker 2: you need to watch how you get to that payment
- 17:17Speaker 2: and make sure that you treat it fairly.
- 17:19Speaker 3: One thing I like about your salespeople is that they're
- 17:23Speaker 3: right there with you. They're not A lot of times
- 17:26Speaker 3: you're seeing the computer screen that they're working on.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. No, we love to turn it around, actually.
- 17:31Speaker 1: They actually do that.
- 17:32Speaker 3: And you're not getting the runaround of let me check
- 17:36Speaker 3: on this or let me check on that. You might
- 17:40Speaker 3: have one question or something that has to be, you know,
- 17:42Speaker 3: built out.
- 17:42Speaker 1: And sometimes they've got to go involve a manager. But
- 17:45Speaker 1: it's not the 18 times during the course of the deal.
- 17:47Speaker 1: A lot of it can be done right at the table.
- 17:50Speaker 1: They've got their Surface Pros.
- 17:52Speaker 3: Sure.
- 17:52Speaker 2: They can turn it around. You can do a lot
- 17:54Speaker 2: of this. The managers come out and introduce themselves.
- 17:58Speaker 1: They do. And just welcome you to the store.
- 18:04Speaker 2: We tried to really rethink the process of buying a car,
- 18:07Speaker 2: not make it like running through.
- 18:09Speaker 1: A cattle shoot.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Because to me, it's more like hospitality, like a service
- 18:13Speaker 2: at a restaurant or a restaurant. in a nice hotel
- 18:20Speaker 2: where you get the service you want, and you're.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Like, well, this is a great place. And you're usually
- 18:25Speaker 1: done in about a half hour. Yeah, no, it can
- 18:26Speaker 1: be very fast. You don't carve out a whole afternoon.
- 18:28Speaker 1: Very fast. So it goes really at the pace you
- 18:30Speaker 1: want to go. It is. You're comfortable.
- 18:33Speaker 2: They make sure you're comfortable. Yeah, no, that's really good. And,
- 18:37Speaker 2: you know, the main point is this is working. We
- 18:40Speaker 2: are seeing this as our sales growth this year is
- 18:44Speaker 2: as good as.
- 18:44Speaker 1: It's been in a long time.
- 18:46Speaker 2: We're up. We're 137% of last year through the end
- 18:51Speaker 2: of August.
- 18:51Speaker 1: And you're seeing familiar faces coming back.
- 18:53Speaker 2: We're seeing people come back. People refer their friends and family.
- 18:59Speaker 2: And we're growing in all departments.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Wow.
- 19:01Speaker 2: So really happy with the results of what we're doing.
- 19:06Speaker 2: And it does make a difference. We know we're not–
- 19:11Speaker 2: one of the reasons why we can do this is
- 19:13Speaker 2: because we are small or family owned and operated.
- 19:18Speaker 1: My brother Bruce is in there as the used car manager.
- 19:21Speaker 2: My son William is the new car slash floor manager.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Great guy, Kobe Brinkman, is the finance or business manager.
- 19:30Speaker 2: But because we're small, they each kind of do everything too.
- 19:37Speaker 2: There's nothing they haven't seen before.
- 19:40Speaker 1: We give all our team.
- 19:42Speaker 2: a lot of balance in life, you know, because we
- 19:45Speaker 2: pay a little different. There's not the pressure to to
- 19:49Speaker 2: make money on each deal and and to hit that
- 19:53Speaker 2: that pressure and you know our team is paid on
- 19:56Speaker 2: a salary and that's that is based on their productivity
- 20:01Speaker 2: over the past three months and their longevity and certifications
- 20:05Speaker 2: and things like that so they still have to reach
- 20:09Speaker 2: minimums to be, you know, to make a lot, a
- 20:12Speaker 2: big salary, but, but it starts, it's a very fair
- 20:15Speaker 2: wage starting out before you've ever sold a car. Um,
- 20:19Speaker 2: we wrote, we rolled out a, a pay plan like
- 20:22Speaker 2: that in the body shop recently. Uh, we're, uh, cause
- 20:26Speaker 2: technicians and traditionally in the car business, they've paid on
- 20:30Speaker 2: what they call a flat rate hour. So each job
- 20:33Speaker 2: pays a certain amount and it's kind of, it's, it
- 20:36Speaker 2: is commissioned. Uh, And ours is, you know, to be honest,
- 20:40Speaker 2: the pay isn't that different, but it does stabilize it
- 20:45Speaker 2: and it takes the pressure off of each, each customer. And,
- 20:51Speaker 2: you know, that's what I want is to make everybody comfortable,
- 20:54Speaker 2: give them a good balance of life, make sure that they're,
- 20:57Speaker 2: they're well taken care of. We offer great benefits, great,
- 21:01Speaker 2: great community culture. We, We love to support organizations like
- 21:07Speaker 2: we were talking about earlier at AbilityWorks and Concern and
- 21:11Speaker 2: on and on. And again, what I forgot to mention,
- 21:14Speaker 2: the United Way Golf Tournament is coming up next week.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Big week for... for the United Way. They raised a
- 21:20Speaker 2: ton of money with that.
- 21:22Speaker 1: You'll be busy out there. Yeah, we will.
- 21:25Speaker 2: I've got to take off in the middle of the
- 21:27Speaker 2: week to go to the Toyota meeting, so I won't
- 21:30Speaker 2: be there much, and I'm not going to get to golf.
- 21:32Speaker 2: I'm going to send Kimberly and William on Friday out
- 21:35Speaker 2: to do that with some friends. They'll be doing that. Randy, John,
- 21:42Speaker 2: is coming back to town to run the tournament. He's
- 21:45Speaker 2: done that for a long time now, and even after
- 21:48Speaker 2: he moved away to in Houston, and I guess he's
- 21:51Speaker 2: in Alaska. Anyway, but welcome back, Randy. He's going to
- 21:56Speaker 2: come pick up a car we lend him while he's
- 21:58Speaker 2: here tomorrow morning, and I think I'll put him in
- 22:01Speaker 2: that Land Cruiser I've been driving.
- 22:04Speaker 3: Oh, nice.
- 22:05Speaker 2: That'll be coming out of service when Randy gives it back.
- 22:09Speaker 2: We've had it for six months, which is, I like
- 22:12Speaker 2: to get in stuff to help keep the vehicles turning
- 22:15Speaker 2: since that increases our allocation, so So I'll pick another
- 22:20Speaker 2: one here soon, trying to decide what needs the most
- 22:24Speaker 2: turn rate in an SUV.
- 22:26Speaker 1: So I'm down to Land Cruiser, 4Runner, or Sequoia. Not
- 22:31Speaker 1: sure which one. You're good at Sequoia. I like Sequoia.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Sequoia's nice. It's a little bigger.
- 22:36Speaker 2: I kind of like the size of the Land Cruiser.
- 22:39Speaker 2: I've gotten used to that. And the 4Runner' s pretty similar.
- 22:43Speaker 2: And the price point on the 4Runner is great because
- 22:47Speaker 2: they start in the, in the low 40s, and you
- 22:50Speaker 2: can get an early, nice four-wheel drive 4Runner in the
- 22:53Speaker 2: low to mid-40s, and, you know, if you add your
- 22:58Speaker 2: accessories you want to it, you can still make it
- 23:00Speaker 2: look great. You know, some of them, like top-end Sequoias
- 23:04Speaker 2: are around 70. Land Cruisers kind of, they're in the
- 23:09Speaker 2: 60 to 75 range, and Sequoias.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Up above that, up to into the, like, more like $ 80, 000
- 23:18Speaker 1: to $ 90, 000.
- 23:19Speaker 2: So, you know, they're kind of spread out, but, you know,
- 23:24Speaker 2: I think, you know, they're great vehicles, and, you know,
- 23:28Speaker 2: it's hard to choose. I think they're all great. I
- 23:33Speaker 2: kind of like the smaller one at this point. I
- 23:36Speaker 2: don't always need the third row seat or the, extra
- 23:40Speaker 2: room we used to when we were going to soccer
- 23:42Speaker 2: tournaments every weekend for three years.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Oh, those were the days. Yes, they were.
- 23:51Speaker 2: I would talk to Bodie every day, pretty much, but
- 23:54Speaker 2: he's off in his junior year at Kenyon College up
- 23:59Speaker 2: in Ohio, and he's retired from playing on the soccer team,
- 24:03Speaker 2: but he's the team manager now, and so he's They've
- 24:07Speaker 2: kept him along because he's such a great guy, and
- 24:11Speaker 2: he's there for the coach.
- 24:14Speaker 1: And he's a real leader, I think.
- 24:20Speaker 2: But anyway, they've got him being the team manager, and
- 24:23Speaker 2: he's having a great time at school. And they're 3-0
- 24:26Speaker 2: in the soccer team and have some games this weekend
- 24:30Speaker 2: against teams from California that are coming up.
- 24:33Speaker 1: To play them. It's cool. Division III soccer is such
- 24:37Speaker 1: a nice thing.
- 24:41Speaker 2: At a small school like that where almost 50% of
- 24:45Speaker 2: the students do a sport of some kind.
- 24:48Speaker 1: So it's very– sports and academics go together. Very engaged.
- 24:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's not– in today's world, we see NIL
- 24:57Speaker 2: even in high school sports and all that.
- 24:59Speaker 1: I don't want to get off on that.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Tangent, but it's certainly– changed my perception of, of, of
- 25:07Speaker 2: college football in particular. And, you know, it's not that
- 25:11Speaker 2: I'm still not a fan, but, but it just, it's,
- 25:14Speaker 2: it's a little disappointing.
- 25:15Speaker 1: I'm still trying to wrap my head around.
- 25:17Speaker 2: What does that mean to, that these guys, you know,
- 25:20Speaker 2: the quarterback might get paid millions of dollars and that
- 25:24Speaker 2: they can just up and leave, you know, and go
- 25:28Speaker 2: somewhere else. If they didn't like how you talk to
- 25:30Speaker 2: them at practice or whatever, it's a, It's an interesting dynamic.
- 25:36Speaker 1: It is different. I think, you know, you played college sports.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Way different. Like, darn glad to be here. I'm not
- 25:47Speaker 1: going to be a problem.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, that whole, how you looked at that
- 25:52Speaker 2: opportunity has changed, right?
- 25:54Speaker 1: Oh, golly, yeah. Yeah, and, you know, and I.
- 25:59Speaker 2: think education is so important because you're not going to
- 26:02Speaker 2: play that i mean only a few will play that
- 26:04Speaker 2: sport make a make a career out of it but
- 26:07Speaker 2: the vast majority of college athletes don't and no and
- 26:11Speaker 2: like two percent make it and it's such an important
- 26:14Speaker 2: experience to play those sports and to be involved in
- 26:18Speaker 2: in uh in team athletics and to be.
- 26:21Speaker 1: You know learn what you know the what it.
- 26:24Speaker 2: Is to win and to lose and to be part
- 26:26Speaker 2: of a team, to work together to accomplish things.
- 26:30Speaker 1: That's an important thing to learn. That's delightful.
- 26:32Speaker 2: You tie that to education and the stuff you can learn,
- 26:38Speaker 2: sometimes the practical stuff, but sometimes more importantly just the.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Learning to learn and learning how to learn. Learning how
- 26:46Speaker 1: to learn.
- 26:46Speaker 2: Yeah, learning how to learn because at its best we
- 26:49Speaker 2: keep doing that work all through our lives. And, and, uh, anyway,
- 26:55Speaker 2: that's there. I'll get off my soapbox.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Well, that's okay. Money finds soapbox. Well, thank you.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Uh, it's been another, uh, we've pretty much filled up
- 27:04Speaker 2: another half hour with just the car talk here and
