- 0:39SPEAKER_02: Welcome in, everybody, to the Talking Tech Podcast.
- 0:42SPEAKER_02: My name is Steven Rodriguez, my co-host Tristan McGonagall.
- 0:45SPEAKER_02: Tristan, how you doing today, dude?
- 0:47SPEAKER_03: Devastated.
- 0:48SPEAKER_02: Me too.
- 0:50SPEAKER_02: It's awful.
- 0:50SPEAKER_03: Still hurt.
- 0:51SPEAKER_03: I I just I'm so sorry that we didn't talk about the game last week.
- 0:54SPEAKER_03: And oh last week.
- 0:56SPEAKER_03: I can't believe we missed that.
- 0:57SPEAKER_03: But wow, gut-wrenching.
- 0:59SPEAKER_03: I mean, they they they just did what we did to UT, and it doesn't feel good on this side.
- 1:03SPEAKER_02: No, I don't like when we're losing.
- 1:05SPEAKER_02: It's it's funny.
- 1:06SPEAKER_02: It's like when we lose, I'm sad.
- 1:08SPEAKER_02: And when we're when we win, I'm happy.
- 1:10SPEAKER_02: But today I was, or I guess on Monday, I was sad.
- 1:14SPEAKER_02: Uh tough game overall.
- 1:16SPEAKER_02: We're gonna get to that here in a second.
- 1:18SPEAKER_02: But there's some big football news to talk about first.
- 1:22SPEAKER_02: Uh our quarterback for the last three years is transferring.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: Alan Bowman decided to enter the transfer portal.
- 1:30SPEAKER_02: Um, don't know where he's going yet, but uh, you know, did did you really did you expect this?
- 1:36SPEAKER_03: I mean, if I'm being honest, no.
- 1:37SPEAKER_03: I thought he was gonna be on the team next year.
- 1:39SPEAKER_03: I kind of expected him to be the starter again.
- 1:42SPEAKER_03: Uh, because uh because he didn't transfer kind of like right out of the gate uh at the end of the season, especially whenever Yost left.
- 1:48SPEAKER_03: I thought maybe that's when we'd expect him to go if it was gonna happen, but because it didn't, I thought he was here.
- 1:53SPEAKER_03: Uh but now I'm not gonna lie, I'm I'm a little disappointed because I thought maybe uh the company system would treat him better, but at the same time, I think we've got some talent to work with, and I'm kind of excited to see the future and kind of get past this era because it has been good to us.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I said after football season, I said that I was ready to move on from Alan Bowman, and I'm still ready to move on from Alan Bowman.
- 2:13SPEAKER_02: I wasn't surprised that he decided to transfer.
- 2:16SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, with all the stuff that went on with with David Yost and that offensive system last year, his constant injuries, his, you know, I just feel like he wanted a fresh start, and I feel like a fresh start will be good for him and be good for tech too.
- 2:29SPEAKER_02: Um, there are a lot of quarterbacks on this roster currently, and I thought uh if any of them, I thought it was gonna be McIver leaving because he hasn't played a snap yet for Texas Tech, but uh I I thought one of them was gonna leave, and uh it looks like it's the guy's gonna be Bowman.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: Um you know, I guess for my first initial thoughts were that he was the most talented guy on the roster that we've seen so far, uh, which was disappointing for sure.
- 2:57SPEAKER_02: I think he is a better quarterback than Columbia is, uh, even though Columbi had a few you know moments last season, but I feel like he's just he's a super talented player, you know.
- 3:07SPEAKER_02: He's got all the intangibles, he's tall, he's got the arm, he's got it all.
- 3:11SPEAKER_02: It's just I think mentally he wasn't there.
- 3:14SPEAKER_02: And you know, with all the constant with the coaching change from Cliff to Matt Wells, with the other coaching change now from Yost to Sonny Cumbe.
- 3:21SPEAKER_02: It's just uh it's just a lot for the guy, and I think it's good for him uh to get out, and I think it'll be good for tech in the end.
- 3:28SPEAKER_03: Yes, I I'm with you.
- 3:29SPEAKER_03: It just kind of leaves us with a question mark, like you were saying.
- 3:32SPEAKER_03: So, where do you think we go from here?
- 3:33SPEAKER_03: Do you think do you think we go straight to uh Henry Columbi?
- 3:36SPEAKER_03: I because I don't I don't really know if we do.
- 3:39SPEAKER_03: I kind of feel like Henry Columbi's there to be a backup.
- 3:41SPEAKER_03: I mean, not necessarily in to him, but I kind of feel like that's sort of the mindset on the offense.
- 3:46SPEAKER_03: I don't know if he's good enough to win the Big 12.
- 3:49SPEAKER_03: I'm not saying that's the goal, I'm saying, but you know what I mean.
- 3:52SPEAKER_03: I I just I don't think he's kind of that apex quarterback that you would need to compete in this league.
- 3:58SPEAKER_03: And I think we'd we'd probably have a better shot, even though we haven't had him seen him take a snap yet with uh McGyver or perhaps even Barron.
- 4:06SPEAKER_03: If if Wells wants to put a put all of his chips go all in on Barron.
- 4:10SPEAKER_03: So that's kind of where my head's at right now.
- 4:13SPEAKER_03: I but I think the the obvious the safe guess is obviously Columbi.
- 4:16SPEAKER_03: What do you think?
- 4:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think early on it's gonna be Columbi taking the QB1 snaps.
- 4:21SPEAKER_02: I think he's just he's an experienced guy.
- 4:23SPEAKER_02: Matt Wells obviously loves him.
- 4:25SPEAKER_02: He recruited him to Utah State when he was still there, and then he followed him to Texas Tech now.
- 4:30SPEAKER_02: So I I feel and you know the fact that he played last year is is enough for me to think that Columbia's gonna initially get the first team reps.
- 4:39SPEAKER_02: Uh whether that's the case after spring training and when it's time for the season to start, I don't know.
- 4:45SPEAKER_02: We're gonna have to see how that progresses.
- 4:47SPEAKER_02: But I think there's a reason McGyver stayed.
- 4:49SPEAKER_02: And he, I mean, he there's still a chance that he leaves too.
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: There's still a chance that any of these quarterbacks decide to transfer out, but for McGyver to still be here, I'm gonna expect him, you know, to want to still be on the team.
- 5:00SPEAKER_02: So I I feel like he's promised something, or not necessarily promised, but at least given an opportunity uh to play here at tech and to compete for these first first team reps.
- 5:10SPEAKER_02: Um, I'm I'm not as high and not necessarily not as high on Baron Morton, but I'm not expecting him to play next season.
- 5:20SPEAKER_02: Um I think he's a super talented kid, he's a four-star quarterback, one of the highest uh recruited quarterbacks that we've had come to tech in a while.
- 5:27SPEAKER_02: Um, and I think we have a outlook for him for sure.
- 5:32SPEAKER_02: But for him to start immediately as a true freshman, I think is a hard thing to do.
- 5:37SPEAKER_02: And I just I can see him, and and you know, you brought this up earlier when we talked about this.
- 5:43SPEAKER_02: Matt Wells is on the hot seat, and Matt Wells needs something to go right for him.
- 5:47SPEAKER_02: And if he doesn't see, you know, these other guys working out, I could see him throwing in Baron Morton midseason or even to start the year, but um we'll see how it progresses.
- 5:56SPEAKER_02: I don't I I don't think Morton plays this year, if I were to make a uh a guess right now, but I would I would expect Columbia um with potentially McGyver starting the year.
- 6:08SPEAKER_03: I feel like with uh how much hype has been behind Morton, I'm kind of with you.
- 6:12SPEAKER_03: I don't think he starts immediately unless my whole Matt Wells is like straight up just gonna gamble, uh gamble it all on him to save his job.
- 6:22SPEAKER_03: Um, I think if things don't look great at the begin uh you know in the first half of the season, I think the fans will be screaming for Barron to go in.
- 6:31SPEAKER_03: And I think if you know at that point it's gonna be like uh you you literally either win or you get fired.
- 6:37SPEAKER_03: And at that point in the season, kind of thing.
- 6:39SPEAKER_03: I feel like fans will be begging for more Barron Morton to get in.
- 6:42SPEAKER_03: I think there's a good shot you do see that happen.
- 6:44SPEAKER_03: Uh obviously, I hope that wouldn't be the case.
- 6:47SPEAKER_03: You know, I I I I obviously want them to trust the quarterback that will be able to put the the put the ball in the in the end zone and uh get us those wins.
- 6:56SPEAKER_03: Uh so uh a veteran, a more veteran quarterback like Columbia or McIver is probably the way they're gonna want to go first.
- 7:04SPEAKER_03: Um, so I I I see what you're saying.
- 7:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I it's nothing against Barron Morton or anything.
- 7:10SPEAKER_02: And uh the thing I just don't want to happen is for like what you just said, Matt Wells, to freak out and just throw him in there when he's not ready.
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: And so that's the last thing because this guy's the future.
- 7:21SPEAKER_02: We see a lot of potential in this guy, uh, you know, starting here at tech for potentially three, two to three years, potentially being an NFL guy.
- 7:28SPEAKER_02: So there is another quarterback on the roster we haven't talked about yet, and that's Donovan Smith, who came in I think two or three years ago.
- 7:34SPEAKER_02: Uh, he's kind of he was injured last season out for the year.
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: Uh, he's kind of a scrappy guy uh to keep in mind as well.
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: Um, again, don't really see him doing much.
- 7:44SPEAKER_02: I know he's the coach's kid on on tech's roster.
- 7:47SPEAKER_02: I think uh the running backs coach or somebody, uh, his son.
- 7:50SPEAKER_02: So uh that's another guy that we should mention.
- 7:53SPEAKER_03: I'm just a little nervous.
- 7:54SPEAKER_03: Like, if you want to keep Barron on the bench for the year because he's a freshman, I it kind of makes me a little nervous.
- 8:00SPEAKER_03: Like, if this is Matt Wells' last year and Matt Wells gets tossed, like what happens then?
- 8:05SPEAKER_03: Does he stay?
- 8:05SPEAKER_03: Does he go?
- 8:06SPEAKER_03: You know, it's like I guess I'm kind of worrying about talent retention too, with the with this Matt Wells uh tension, you know what I mean?
- 8:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so it's it's kind of a mystery right now.
- 8:15SPEAKER_03: I hope I'm sure he'll start clearing it up as we get closer to the season.
- 8:19SPEAKER_03: Uh, but it's it's just with Alan Bowman leaving, because I seriously thought he was gonna be the starter next year.
- 8:24SPEAKER_03: So it's we're kind of big question marks going on for all of us right now.
- 8:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, for sure.
- 8:30SPEAKER_02: And uh Bowman, I mean, led the team last season in in yards.
- 8:34SPEAKER_02: Uh, he had you know 1600 yards, 10 touchdowns, seven interceptions.
- 8:38SPEAKER_02: Uh, a lot of those interceptions were horrible, as we all know, uh too well.
- 8:43SPEAKER_02: But he was he's still a good quarterback, and I'm excited to kind of see where he goes because I want to keep up with his career too.
- 8:49SPEAKER_02: He's always a good guy and he represented us well, just you know, some unfortunate circumstances, him getting hurt a ton, you know, that just sucks.
- 8:55SPEAKER_02: So, where do you really see where do you think Bowman's going?
- 8:58SPEAKER_03: I was actually about to ask you that.
- 9:00SPEAKER_03: He's a really tough kid.
- 9:01SPEAKER_03: Um, I I kind of see him going G5.
- 9:03SPEAKER_03: I know a lot of people think you know, he's got he's obviously got the talent for P5, and I agree with that.
- 9:07SPEAKER_03: I just I don't know if he can go to any power five program, maybe uh promise the starting job.
- 9:13SPEAKER_03: And since at this point in his career, that's probably all he wants to do.
- 9:16SPEAKER_03: So I can see him going to like uh an SMU kind of school or a Houston kind of school, which would obviously be great places to land.
- 9:23SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's not a big drop off.
- 9:25SPEAKER_03: So uh I can I could see something like that happen if he's going to the P5.
- 9:28SPEAKER_03: I could imagine maybe the pack, but I other than that, I just don't really see it happening.
- 9:33SPEAKER_03: I I'm I'm thinking more like Mountain West American League kind of uh zone.
- 9:37SPEAKER_03: What about you?
- 9:38SPEAKER_02: I wouldn't be surprised if he goes P5 because he's extremely talented and he and he's got a lot of tape playing well for Texas Tech.
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: I can see one coach in the P5 just looking at him and being like, dang, like he's he can he can toss it.
- 9:54SPEAKER_02: So, you know, if it's yeah, I can see the schools you mentioned in the G5, like SMU.
- 10:00SPEAKER_02: SMU almost seems too perfect of a situation.
- 10:02SPEAKER_02: I can already see him wearing the Dallas uniforms and everything.
- 10:05SPEAKER_02: Uh, it seems like everybody that transfers out of Texas Tech goes to Houston.
- 10:10SPEAKER_02: So with Keyshawn Carter and Alex Hogan both committing to Houston, uh, you know, that could be something he's uh he's familiar with some of the guys already.
- 10:18SPEAKER_02: You know, it's a it's a pretty good program.
- 10:20SPEAKER_02: I can see that yeah, Holgerson.
- 10:22SPEAKER_02: I mean former Big 12.
- 10:23SPEAKER_02: So um, but you know, I could see a lower tier ACC school just deciding to recruit.
- 10:29SPEAKER_02: We saw with uh McLean Carter, he decided to transfer to Rutgers, you know, and so uh, well, that's Big Ten, but still kind of lower lower tier of the of the power five schools, you know, a team like Wake or a team like Duke, you know, potentially Duke has you know they've had some good quarterbacks and they've had some good talent on their roster.
- 10:47SPEAKER_02: I know that the running back coach from our current running back coach came from Duke, so he's got that connection, you know.
- 10:54SPEAKER_02: And so uh I could see something of that nature taking place, but I'm sure he wants to stay a little closer to home.
- 10:59SPEAKER_02: So I think if I were a betting man, I would bet SMU right now.
- 11:03SPEAKER_02: But uh, you know, I could see a number of different options for sure.
- 11:06SPEAKER_03: And his chances of playing in the P5 are like better than ever because transfer quarterbacks aren't becoming a thing, you know, they weren't really much of a thing before, uh, at least at this level.
- 11:15SPEAKER_03: So to go from P5 to P5 like they have been.
- 11:18SPEAKER_03: So uh I'll be happy if he did.
- 11:20SPEAKER_03: I mean, that'd be great to watch him to see, especially if we see him thrive in a system like out west or something.
- 11:24SPEAKER_03: But yeah, I'm with you.
- 11:25SPEAKER_03: I think SME SME would be cool too, because see then he's close to home and we get to see him in those badass uh Dallas jerseys and stuff.
- 11:31SPEAKER_02: So yeah, no doubt.
- 11:32SPEAKER_02: I'll be rooting for him no matter what, man.
- 11:34SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 11:34SPEAKER_02: I still like Alan Bowman.
- 11:35SPEAKER_02: Just uh just I am happy that we moved on though.
- 11:38SPEAKER_03: So would that make would that make it make ivor the last Cliff quarterback on the team?
- 11:43SPEAKER_03: Was McIver a Cliff guy?
- 11:45SPEAKER_03: Yes, he was I thought he was the first year of Wells.
- 11:48SPEAKER_03: Uh he I he if he was, he was I think he was still recruited by Cliff's team and he just still came in, if you know what I mean.
- 11:54SPEAKER_03: Okay so uh but I'm I'm I remember Mav being a big pickup for Cliff back in the day because like okay, we got this good kid coming in, so I think he would be the the last remnants of Cliff's quarterbacks, maybe which is different, you know, because we've been running with almost exclusively uh Cliff QBs since, but um uh it's just interesting to watch.
- 12:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean Wells has some good recruits on the way, so I'm uh you know, I'm not like uh, but but Cliff obviously does have that eye for offensive talent and quarterback talent, so we'll see how it goes.
- 12:26SPEAKER_03: But Cliff never got a uh the a four-star like Baron Morton.
- 12:29SPEAKER_03: So Wells kind of has an edge on the the recruiting there, but no one can question uh his three-star eye.
- 12:37SPEAKER_03: That is Cliff's.
- 12:38SPEAKER_03: So we have the guy, our guy that's gonna be in the Super Bowl once more.
- 12:43SPEAKER_03: A little three-star quarterback, only got three offers, one P5 offer, Patrick Mahomes.
- 12:50SPEAKER_02: It's the GOAT against the future GOAT in the Super Bowl.
- 12:54SPEAKER_02: So that's gonna be cool.
- 12:55SPEAKER_02: That's gonna be a cool game to watch.
- 12:56SPEAKER_02: Uh, we should mention also Jalen Polk, uh, freshman wide receiver, and uh he's deciding to transfer as well.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: Uh uh, this was kind of stunning uh because he had you know some pretty decent stats.
- 13:08SPEAKER_02: He he finished top five in receiving uh for our roster last year, 28 receptions, 264 yards, receiving and two touchdowns last year for a true freshman.
- 13:18SPEAKER_02: You know, those pretty good stats.
- 13:20SPEAKER_02: And uh it was it was a little weird.
- 13:22SPEAKER_02: I guess he just saw there was too much competition, or maybe he thought he had a shot to go to a bigger school.
- 13:28SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 13:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that that one was surprising.
- 13:31SPEAKER_03: It's it, I mean, it's not hard to believe a wide receiver wanting to look for a different situation at a school like tech because of you know, like you were saying, how deep this this bench gets at that position more than any other.
- 13:42SPEAKER_03: So that that one's really surprising, especially as a freshman.
- 13:45SPEAKER_03: I'm surprised they don't want to stick around for another year, you know.
- 13:48SPEAKER_03: Uh you know, it's a rush, but I guess maybe the Yost firing had something to do with it.
- 13:52SPEAKER_03: Maybe he was attached to Yost, but uh again, uh I'm a little surprised as well.
- 13:56SPEAKER_03: And he seemed like a pretty good player, too.
- 13:58SPEAKER_03: So I'm a little disappointed, but I'm sure we'll reload.
- 14:01SPEAKER_02: I think the good news is, and I put this on Twitter on the pod's uh Twitter account.
- 14:05SPEAKER_02: We have some really talented freshman wide receivers from last season.
- 14:09SPEAKER_02: I mean, Miles Price finished number two in receiving yards for us last season, uh, and he was a true freshman.
- 14:15SPEAKER_02: Trey Cleveland, I remember him catching a touchdown.
- 14:17SPEAKER_02: Loick Fungi also caught a touchdown towards the end of the year.
- 14:20SPEAKER_02: So we have some talent, and not even mentioning Izukama, Wigden, and uh Tras Koons, the tight end who has decided to come back.
- 14:27SPEAKER_02: So uh, and then uh McLean Mannix as well, who didn't get to play last season, but is a pretty good slot wide receiver.
- 14:34SPEAKER_02: So um we still have a lot of talent at wide receiver position.
- 14:37SPEAKER_02: We're very deep.
- 14:37SPEAKER_02: So, and and the four-star freshman wide receiver Duran Bradley coming in uh as well from DeSoto.
- 14:43SPEAKER_02: So uh I think we're pretty deep and pretty set at that position.
- 14:47SPEAKER_03: That that made me feel a whole lot better, man.
- 14:49SPEAKER_03: I can definitely see why Polk was feeling the room was getting a little crowded because holy cow, that was talent.
- 14:54SPEAKER_03: That was a talent, talented list you threw out there.
- 14:56SPEAKER_03: So um I again I wasn't too worried about the wide receiver position, but dang, that's you're getting me excited about football.
- 15:03SPEAKER_03: I don't like this.
- 15:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's tough.
- 15:06SPEAKER_02: We're we're you know we're gonna get there every single year, every year, every year.
- 15:10SPEAKER_02: Even if we finished 0 8 or 0-9 last season, we would have still been hyped up for four.
- 15:14SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: It's what we are.
- 15:16SPEAKER_02: We're positive thinkers.
- 15:17SPEAKER_03: In this is a new era, you know, with uh with dummy new uh new receivers, new quarterback, or not necessarily new quarterback, but you know what I mean.
- 15:24SPEAKER_03: This is new era, sort of.
- 15:26SPEAKER_03: You better get it together, Wells, please.
- 15:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no doubt.
- 15:29SPEAKER_02: And to finish off football news, uh, also had a couple more transfers.
- 15:33SPEAKER_02: Uh a couple backups, offensive lineman Will Farrar uh decided to transfer, and uh backup wide receiver Caden Leggett also as well.
- 15:42SPEAKER_02: Uh so not guys that really played a lot last year, a lot on special teams.
- 15:46SPEAKER_02: Uh so not really gonna miss them much, you know.
- 15:49SPEAKER_02: Uh I think Caden Leggett was a was a former walk-on.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: So, you know, uh hopefully they find what they're looking for.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: But uh got the and then to end it off, we got a couple commits.
- 15:59SPEAKER_02: Um one guy from West Texas, one guy from Lubbock at Coronado High School, uh Amari Jones looks like he's gonna play defensive back.
- 16:07SPEAKER_02: So uh we found some hidden gems from Coronado, but I think this really he's not a really highly tatted recruit by any means, not not on a lot of big boards or anything like that, but um he's still a guy that's that's from West Texas and from Lubbock that we're getting, so that's always good news.
- 16:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I always appreciate the effort to record recruit local because I mean that just builds momentum.
- 16:27SPEAKER_03: If you start building that relationship with the schools around, that's that's that's great.
- 16:30SPEAKER_03: The coaches the coaches love Texas Tech, the players are gonna you know feed off that.
- 16:34SPEAKER_03: So that's that's good news.
- 16:36SPEAKER_03: And then heck, this guy could be ahead and gym, you know, maybe he'll be like a Jared Culver or something like that, you know, where he just becomes a star out of Lubbock, and God knows we need a star on uh defensive back.
- 16:46SPEAKER_03: So I'm excited, man.
- 16:47SPEAKER_03: That's it's I'm I'll always welcome West Texas recruits.
- 16:50SPEAKER_02: So yeah, for sure.
- 16:52SPEAKER_02: So um let's uh let's just bite the bullet.
- 16:54SPEAKER_02: Let's get to the West Virginia game.
- 16:56SPEAKER_02: Uh tough, tough, heartbreaking loss, 88-87 in Morgantown, uh to the number 11 Mountaineers.
- 17:06SPEAKER_02: Um, man, just you know, it's we just can't get it together fully yet.
- 17:13SPEAKER_02: And that's disappointing.
- 17:14SPEAKER_02: We play we played a lot of good teams, and it seems like we've lost to all the good teams except for the UT game, uh, which stinks.
- 17:22SPEAKER_02: We gotta start win.
- 17:22SPEAKER_02: Even Chris Beard said we gotta start winning these games.
- 17:25SPEAKER_02: Uh, we've had a lot of them down to the wire that we've not won.
- 17:29SPEAKER_02: Uh, and we just I just think we just didn't play good defense this this entire game, man.
- 17:34SPEAKER_03: Yes, this one was uh again another bit of a roller coaster.
- 17:37SPEAKER_03: It was like a slope.
- 17:38SPEAKER_03: It started off pretty rough, but then we really got going in that mid-game in the in the in the end of the first, beginning of the second.
- 17:44SPEAKER_03: We were on fire.
- 17:46SPEAKER_03: We're like this.
- 17:46SPEAKER_03: I love this basketball.
- 17:47SPEAKER_03: I love watching this team.
- 17:49SPEAKER_03: And then at the very end, you know, I was I was sweating, you know, and then just really worried.
- 17:53SPEAKER_03: And obviously the worry came to to uh to fruition there because we lost in a heartbreaking basically buzzer beater.
- 18:00SPEAKER_03: So I you're right.
- 18:01SPEAKER_03: It's just it's it's it's it's so difficult to watch this team not be able to put together a complete game where we're just rocking the house the whole the whole time rather than just feels like we keep going these spurts where you know we start off dry, then we get red hot, and then we get uh you know go back to dry, and then we get red hot again at the end or something like that.
- 18:18SPEAKER_03: You know what I'm saying?
- 18:19SPEAKER_03: So it's I just would like some consistency.
- 18:22SPEAKER_03: That's no doubt that's something that's missing.
- 18:24SPEAKER_02: I agree, I agree, and it's something different each game.
- 18:27SPEAKER_02: I mean, this was this was a non this did not look like a Chris Beard Mark Adams team, right here.
- 18:33SPEAKER_02: I mean, we were scoring like crazy and playing great on the offensive side, but we gave up.
- 18:38SPEAKER_02: We we had a lot of miss connections and uh miss switches and just not getting on guys, we were getting out rebounded a lot.
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: Uh just just not a yeah, and West Virginia's scrappy, man.
- 18:49SPEAKER_02: I mean, they're they're a really good team, they're they're deserving of a of an 11 ranking of a top 10 ranking.
- 18:55SPEAKER_02: Uh, and they and Miles McBride just went off, man.
- 18:57SPEAKER_02: I mean, West Virginia at the end of the game, they finished 10 for 10 from the field their last 10 shots, so they did not miss to end the game, and that's when we need to turn our defense on.
- 19:07SPEAKER_02: Uh, we needed more from McCullough.
- 19:09SPEAKER_02: McCullough had a bad game, uh, one for eight from the floor, four fouls.
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: Uh, he scrapped, like, I think he got like eight rebounds and stuff like that, but uh just a bad game from him overall.
- 19:18SPEAKER_02: Um, and and where's the defense?
- 19:21SPEAKER_02: Where is it, man?
- 19:22SPEAKER_02: That that was awful.
- 19:23SPEAKER_03: Even in the first half, it was it was like the most points we've ever seen, you know.
- 19:27SPEAKER_03: It was just yeah on both sides of the ball.
- 19:29SPEAKER_03: You know, we were scoring great, but they were just lighting up our you know, what's usually a lockdown D.
- 19:36SPEAKER_03: So, like you were saying, just did not look like us tonight.
- 19:38SPEAKER_03: I mean, that night.
- 19:39SPEAKER_03: And probably my biggest heartburn with this is that I couldn't go around and tweeting that uh John Denver went to Texas Tech every time, every time after West Virginia.
- 19:50SPEAKER_02: We got to tweet it.
- 19:52SPEAKER_03: But uh man, I can't I think you're you're just nailing it all in the head.
- 19:56SPEAKER_03: I don't I I there's nothing more to say about it from my point of view, but I'm I'm happy with the way the offense played.
- 20:02SPEAKER_03: But damn, this it's a two-part game.
- 20:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no doubt.
- 20:05SPEAKER_02: I mean, we we should mention Mac McClung, great game, 20 points, 30 piece.
- 20:09SPEAKER_02: I mean, he was going absolutely nuts at the at the end.
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: They kind of figured it out a little bit.
- 20:13SPEAKER_02: Uh, they were putting, you know, double teaming him, making him get the ball out of his hands, and the other guys just weren't ready at the end of the game.
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: Terrence Shannon had a chance uh to really put us back in the lead after a tie game.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: What was that last shot?
- 20:26SPEAKER_02: What was that?
- 20:26SPEAKER_02: I know, man.
- 20:27SPEAKER_03: He just looked so weirdly desperate when it didn't need to be.
- 20:30SPEAKER_02: He settles for too many jump shots, in my opinion.
- 20:34SPEAKER_02: The guy has a he's got one of the quickest first steps in all of college basketball.
- 20:38SPEAKER_02: And for him to just kind of pull up and settle for the three there, hold the ball, try to jab step a few times.
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: It's like, dude, take it to the bucket, man.
- 20:45SPEAKER_02: You're gonna get fouled, even if it like if you take it strong, there's a good chance you're gonna get fouled there.
- 20:50SPEAKER_03: So I thought that's what he was gonna do.
- 20:52SPEAKER_03: I was like, all right, here we go, here we go.
- 20:54SPEAKER_03: I thought he was setting up the charge, you know, to to go get in there and and do it.
- 20:58SPEAKER_03: But he just, you know, like you said, he just pulls it at the three.
- 21:01SPEAKER_03: It was it was weird while on while he had coverage on him.
- 21:03SPEAKER_03: It was just weird, man.
- 21:04SPEAKER_03: And especially whenever we were what we're weren't we up by a point?
- 21:07SPEAKER_03: A single point.
- 21:08SPEAKER_02: Well, yeah, I think I think that's when we were up by a point, and then because they yeah, they came out of the timeout and went up by one.
- 21:15SPEAKER_02: Um, but I you know, there were some good signs from this game.
- 21:18SPEAKER_02: Uh, Burton, Jameis Burton and Clarence Nedolmy got in there, man.
- 21:22SPEAKER_02: Clarence had a great game for the first time this season.
- 21:25SPEAKER_02: He's had legitimate minutes there off the bench, and he came in, had that and one, had a few assists to start off the game, played great defense and hustled his butt off, man.
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: I really like that guy, and I hope he kind of gets uh get the Burnett minutes uh as the season goes on.
- 21:41SPEAKER_03: For sure.
- 21:41SPEAKER_03: I definitely want to see our players rewarded.
- 21:43SPEAKER_03: You know, if if if they're playing well, they definitely need to get some more minutes, you know.
- 21:47SPEAKER_03: They why why at this point in the season, why hold back?
- 21:50SPEAKER_03: You know, if if if something's not working, go ahead and switch it up.
- 21:53SPEAKER_03: So I was really happy to see those guys step up.
- 21:55SPEAKER_03: Love seeing that.
- 21:56SPEAKER_03: And I I know we just talked about Mac, but I I just I can't.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: Get over how much this kid wants to win every single game.
- 22:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 22:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 22:03SPEAKER_03: His his attitude is rock solid.
- 22:07SPEAKER_03: He's like unbreakable.
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: He's a guy that you can get behind too as a teammate.
- 22:11SPEAKER_02: Like you just you just love those guys that just go percent all the time.
- 22:16SPEAKER_02: Like he really and his feeling play playing in front of family this game, and just you know, that final shot was just that would have been the perfect re like cap off if he made that buzzer beer, but it was a tough shot, man.
- 22:27SPEAKER_02: He had to go the full length of the court because Chris Beard called his final time out.
- 22:31SPEAKER_02: Uh, which you know, we did that against UT and we let him go and and it worked.
- 22:36SPEAKER_02: But uh this time just you know, six seconds to go the full length of the court and try to shoot a fadeaway over two guys.
- 22:41SPEAKER_02: Tough that's a tough deal.
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: But um, you know, uh we now move to four and four in Big 12 play.
- 22:47SPEAKER_02: Uh kind of the overall outlook is not looking good for another another Big 12 championship.
- 22:53SPEAKER_02: No.
- 22:54SPEAKER_02: Uh it it's it's pretty much unreachable, in my opinion.
- 22:57SPEAKER_02: Um, Baylor still hasn't lost a conference game yet.
- 23:00SPEAKER_02: Uh UT still sitting at two losses now because they just lost OU.
- 23:04SPEAKER_02: Uh OU secretly, I mean sneakily.
- 23:07SPEAKER_02: They're eating up.
- 23:08SPEAKER_02: Uh they're six and three in the Big 12, man.
- 23:10SPEAKER_02: And so my gosh.
- 23:12SPEAKER_02: That that road win against them looking very good as the season progresses.
- 23:17SPEAKER_02: And we'll get to OU here in a second when we're talking about our upcoming games.
- 23:20SPEAKER_02: But I I was looking at the uh remaining schedule for for this for this team, and uh four gimme's are left with two games against TCU, an Iowa State game that got canceled or that got postponed that we're gonna play eventually, and then Kansas State.
- 23:36SPEAKER_02: So those are the only four games that are not tough because the rest of our games left, besides the LSU game, but the rest of our conference games left are OU, Kansas, Baylor, OK State, UT, and Jo and West Virginia.
- 23:48SPEAKER_02: So wow, uh yeah, so we have a you know the Big 12's a gauntlet, and hopefully the second half of the season we're we're gonna get you know some of these some of these tight ones.
- 23:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's real, it's the Big 12 is always tough on us, but all right.
- 24:03SPEAKER_03: So we'll go ahead and wrap up this West Virginia game.
- 24:05SPEAKER_03: And I just gotta say that those those West Virginia guys didn't break, you know, they they didn't lose their cool at all.
- 24:11SPEAKER_03: Hats off to them.
- 24:12SPEAKER_02: It was that's an uh that's an absolutely tough team.
- 24:14SPEAKER_02: Huggins is a Hall of Fame coach, you know, he always gets his guys ready and doesn't let him get out of it.
- 24:18SPEAKER_02: He's like Chris Beard.
- 24:20SPEAKER_02: Uh I know we make fun of him because you know he he called us out for celebrating or whatever last year or two years ago, but uh you know he's uh he's a really good coach and uh that team's really good and West Virginia is gonna be ranked in the top 10 next week.
- 24:32SPEAKER_02: And uh, you know, we'll see.
- 24:34SPEAKER_02: We'll see.
- 24:34SPEAKER_03: Hey, we we got him at home next time.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: So yes, we do.
- 24:38SPEAKER_02: We have him at home, and uh, you know, gotta get this one because we can't get swept.
- 24:42SPEAKER_02: So uh, but let's look ahead because we have a couple of games up here coming that are very winnable, in my opinion, but they're not gimme's by any means.
- 24:52SPEAKER_02: Uh LSU in the Big 12 SEC challenge.
- 24:56SPEAKER_02: We are going to Baton Rouge.
- 24:59SPEAKER_02: I will be there.
- 25:00SPEAKER_02: I am currently there.
- 25:01SPEAKER_02: Uh, I'm ready.
- 25:02SPEAKER_02: I'm ready to see a Texas Tech game live, man.
- 25:05SPEAKER_03: Heck yes.
- 25:05SPEAKER_03: Well, I don't know.
- 25:06SPEAKER_03: We got snubbed with the UT game and the concrete plan.
- 25:09SPEAKER_03: So I'm really jealous of you sneaking on over there to the swamp and to cheer on our boys.
- 25:15SPEAKER_03: And I our our good friend Jackson of the Rambling Raiders will be joining you.
- 25:19SPEAKER_02: Yes, he will.
- 25:20SPEAKER_02: Yes, he will.
- 25:20SPEAKER_02: I have yet to hit him up about uh hanging out this weekend, but I'm sure we will get to it and uh have some beers in the arena.
- 25:27SPEAKER_03: Awesome.
- 25:28SPEAKER_03: So, how does this LSU team look in the SEC?
- 25:32SPEAKER_03: How's how how are we feeling about this going in?
- 25:35SPEAKER_02: It's tough to judge them.
- 25:36SPEAKER_02: They have no ranked wins, but they are 11 and 4.
- 25:39SPEAKER_02: Uh, they have played probably the bottom tier level of SEC competition.
- 25:45SPEAKER_02: Uh, haven't played the two big dogs in Tennessee and Missouri yet.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: Um lost, I mean, they've lost to Kentucky, and Kentucky's horrible.
- 25:54SPEAKER_02: Uh, they lost a 30 by Alabama to Alabama, uh, who is granted number eight in the nation right now.
- 26:00SPEAKER_02: They are looking good.
- 26:01SPEAKER_02: I hate that Alabama is now ranked top 10 in basketball too.
- 26:06SPEAKER_02: It's not fair.
- 26:07SPEAKER_02: But you can't have both.
- 26:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you can't have both, man.
- 26:11SPEAKER_02: That's just that's that's not fair.
- 26:12SPEAKER_02: Alabama needs to chill out.
- 26:14SPEAKER_02: But uh yeah, like I was saying, no ranked wins, so it's tough to judge this team.
- 26:18SPEAKER_02: They have some good pieces, uh guys to watch out for.
- 26:21SPEAKER_02: I put as uh Cam Thomas, he's a talented freshman guard averaging almost 22 points a game.
- 26:27SPEAKER_02: Uh Trent Watford, six foot nine sophomore, averaging 18 and 7.
- 26:32SPEAKER_02: Uh, and then Javante Smart, who's an experienced junior guard, been with LSU for a while.
- 26:36SPEAKER_02: Uh, he's averaging 14 points a game with four assists.
- 26:40SPEAKER_02: So they have talent and uh they have a good coach in Will Wade, uh, even though he pays his players and doesn't get punished for it.
- 26:47SPEAKER_02: But uh they they've been uh the good news is they've been really bad lately.
- 26:52SPEAKER_02: Like these last three games have been brutal.
- 26:54SPEAKER_02: They're on a skid.
- 26:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they're on a major skid.
- 26:57SPEAKER_02: They lost by 30 to Alabama, then they lose to a bad Kentucky team, and then they are losing to AM in the second half.
- 27:04SPEAKER_02: AM is terrible this season, they're not good even a little bit, and uh they are yeah, they're losing in the second half.
- 27:11SPEAKER_02: They ended up coming back and winning that game, but uh I they're just not very good defensively, and we got to take advantage.
- 27:17SPEAKER_02: They give up a lot of points.
- 27:19SPEAKER_02: I think they're giving up about 79 points a game, so not good for LSU, and and we should take care of this team.
- 27:25SPEAKER_03: Well, what's really important, probably the most important stat I can bring up is we beat them last time we played.
- 27:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we did.
- 27:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we did back in uh 2017, and uh that SEC matchup, big 12 uh a challenge.
- 27:36SPEAKER_03: We we got that dub.
- 27:38SPEAKER_03: So let's let's go ahead and repeat that.
- 27:40SPEAKER_03: Obviously, that was at home.
- 27:41SPEAKER_03: This time it's going to be away.
- 27:44SPEAKER_03: But uh I I like our chances, you know.
- 27:46SPEAKER_03: Like you said, these this is a must-win, don't you think?
- 27:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think it's a pretty big must-win uh if we're gonna, you know, get one of the top five seeds in the NCA tournament right now.
- 27:56SPEAKER_02: Um, we we shouldn't lose to this team, uh, no doubt.
- 28:00SPEAKER_03: For sure.
- 28:00SPEAKER_03: And we gotta get a go do our part in this in this challenge as well.
- 28:04SPEAKER_03: So we don't we don't wanna we don't wanna we want the double tee to look bad in this uh little uh tournament thing.
- 28:09SPEAKER_02: So yeah, for sure.
- 28:11SPEAKER_02: Well, I will be sporting my red and black um as my girlfriend uh supports her tigers.
- 28:17SPEAKER_02: We will be sitting next to each other talking mess the whole game, but uh hopefully we'll have a good time, man.
- 28:23SPEAKER_03: Absolutely, definitely jealousy, y'all.
- 28:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so and then the next game.
- 28:27SPEAKER_02: We have a game two days after that.
- 28:30SPEAKER_02: Uh we go to Baton Rouge and then we go back home to Lubbock and host Oklahoma on uh Monday at 8 p.m.
- 28:38SPEAKER_02: Uh OU's ranked now, man.
- 28:40SPEAKER_02: They're number 24 in the nation.
- 28:42SPEAKER_02: They are on a hot streak, they're the opposite of LSU.
- 28:44SPEAKER_02: They have been killing it lately.
- 28:46SPEAKER_02: Um, four straight wins, two of which came against Kansas and UT.
- 28:51SPEAKER_02: That win against the Sooners at their place is looking a whole lot better.
- 28:55SPEAKER_03: Man, that that's a little scary.
- 28:56SPEAKER_03: You know, this the OU has done what we haven't been able to do yet.
- 28:59SPEAKER_03: They've gotten two big wins, and we've only gotten the one.
- 29:02SPEAKER_03: I guess maybe we could start thinking about OU as being one of the bigger wins.
- 29:05SPEAKER_03: But uh man, I I getting a sweep against this uh town, this team that's probably gonna go to the tournament would look really good.
- 29:12SPEAKER_03: So I uh it'd be the first sweep of the season, I think.
- 29:15SPEAKER_03: So uh, but it's a little scary.
- 29:18SPEAKER_03: So and it was tight, it was tight last game.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: It was uh they have some guys on this roster that are really good.
- 29:24SPEAKER_02: I mean, Austin Reeves, 16 points a game.
- 29:26SPEAKER_02: He can score in a variety of ways, he can shoot from the outside and he can drive and finish at the rim.
- 29:31SPEAKER_02: Uh, we did a good job on him when we played him last game.
- 29:34SPEAKER_02: I think he only had about 11 or 12 points in that one.
- 29:37SPEAKER_02: But uh him and Davion Harman are kind of the go-to scorers for this team.
- 29:41SPEAKER_02: Uh, Davion Harmon had 17 against this last game.
- 29:44SPEAKER_02: He's shooting a little under 50% for the field for this season.
- 29:48SPEAKER_02: So he's a guy to watch out for.
- 29:50SPEAKER_02: And then I had one more guy off the bench.
- 29:52SPEAKER_02: Uh not a guy that a lot of people are talking about, but Umoja Gibson, dude, is coming off the bench and scoring for him.
- 29:59SPEAKER_02: I mean, he's he's maybe playing about 20 minutes a game, but he's getting 10 points, 12 points, uh, you know, 15 here or there, but uh 10 and 12 points against Kansas and UT respectively.
- 30:09SPEAKER_02: So uh coming off the bench, he's a guy that we have to watch out for.
- 30:13SPEAKER_03: For sure.
- 30:13SPEAKER_03: So what do what do you think, in your opinion, is what do we have that's gonna put us over the edge again?
- 30:18SPEAKER_03: Like, what do you how do we do the how do we get the back to back you think?
- 30:20SPEAKER_03: How does it look this time around?
- 30:22SPEAKER_03: Has it changed?
- 30:23SPEAKER_03: Has the plan changed?
- 30:24SPEAKER_02: They they've done some things differently.
- 30:26SPEAKER_02: OU.
- 30:27SPEAKER_02: Uh they've since moved Brady Manic to the bench to have a little spark off of that bench.
- 30:32SPEAKER_02: He's the Larry Bird looking guy that we all saw uh you know play this season for him.
- 30:37SPEAKER_02: Uh, I think that was a that was a good change for them, having, you know, spreading out their talent, not just from their starting five, but some to their bench and uh you know having that experience there.
- 30:46SPEAKER_02: Um, but I I think we try to contain their guards, man.
- 30:49SPEAKER_02: Contain Reeves, contain Davion Harman, and try to keep them from scoring off the perimeter, make them drive and make them try to finish over Marcus and finish over Tyreek or whoever's in there, Kevin McCullough or whatever.
- 31:00SPEAKER_02: Uh, and then you know, kind of guard the lane and and keep them off the perimeter because they have some really good shooters.
- 31:06SPEAKER_03: So are you telling me the the big guys aren't the scary ones this time?
- 31:09SPEAKER_03: Because no, no, no, no.
- 31:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, there's no Derek Culver, there's no uh Greg Brown on this team.
- 31:14SPEAKER_02: So uh yeah, it's it's the guards we have to watch out for in this one.
- 31:18SPEAKER_03: I should have asked you for the for the LLC game as well.
- 31:20SPEAKER_03: Do what any any response to the same question on that one?
- 31:23SPEAKER_02: It's their guards, too.
- 31:24SPEAKER_02: Their guards are gonna be a good thing.
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: Same situation, just not as well.
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean they have a they have a pretty good forward in Trend Wafford, but uh uh not it's it's mostly the guard play there.
- 31:32SPEAKER_02: They're they're explosive and they try to score a lot without playing a lot of defense.
- 31:35SPEAKER_02: So we had slow the pace down for sure.
- 31:38SPEAKER_03: All right, man.
- 31:39SPEAKER_03: Well, like you said, I do think this uh LC is at least they must win.
- 31:43SPEAKER_03: Um and obviously the the Yo U game is it would be a great one to keep adding up some tally marks because right now it's not really looking like the season we hoped.
- 31:52SPEAKER_03: Um overall, it's not uh I wouldn't say disappointing, but it's just it's not exact it hasn't exactly been uh the expectations that we had.
- 32:00SPEAKER_02: We're not getting killed in these games that we're losing.
- 32:03SPEAKER_02: We're playing, we're playing these really good teams well.
- 32:05SPEAKER_02: It's just this is a year, and like most years, that the Big 12 just has a lot of really good teams and a lot of teams that are gonna be in CA tournament, you know, going Sweet 16, Elite Eight guys.
- 32:15SPEAKER_02: I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw five Big 12 teams in the Sweet 16, you know.
- 32:20SPEAKER_03: I mean, there were just a really good conference, and that's not gonna change anytime soon, I don't think, especially with these coaches in this conference.
- 32:27SPEAKER_03: Uh, but your great point you made, and I think we should all stick to it, is we've been in every single game.
- 32:33SPEAKER_03: We haven't, we haven't watched a game and go, holy crap, we're getting the this the the snot kicked out of us at all.
- 32:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the defense is usual usually the defense has been keeping us in it this whole time, yeah.
- 32:43SPEAKER_03: And it's our boys just don't quit.
- 32:45SPEAKER_03: So I I still love I still love the team in that sense.
- 32:48SPEAKER_03: I just wish the record reflected better.
- 32:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no doubt.
- 32:52SPEAKER_02: And I and that's the that's the thing.
- 32:54SPEAKER_02: We have a lot of like heartbreaking losses, you know.
- 32:56SPEAKER_02: This the Kansas one was bad, the Houston one was bad, the West Virginia one was bad, okay state was close, you know, and and these guys still they're resilient, and you know, they don't stop giving effort even if they're losing some of these tight games and not getting a lot of the even though somehow we're we're we were ranked in the top 10 this week with four losses.
- 33:15SPEAKER_02: Uh it it's really saying how the uh how the media respects us, man.
- 33:19SPEAKER_02: They're really giving us some uh some effort, even though we are we were the only four loss team in the top 10 last you know this past ranking week.
- 33:27SPEAKER_02: So um big time respect for the media there.
- 33:29SPEAKER_02: They're they're starting to get it.
- 33:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they really like the West Texas boys.
- 33:32SPEAKER_03: Uh but I but being in this elite conference helps a lot too.
- 33:36SPEAKER_03: So wherever you lost four games, it's usually against, oh yeah, okay.
- 33:40SPEAKER_03: I understand, you know.
- 33:41SPEAKER_03: So yeah, um unfortunately, I'm sure I will drop, of course, uh, unless we go out and just you know get get it done against LSU.
- 33:50SPEAKER_03: Uh, but it's it's no biggie.
- 33:51SPEAKER_03: Like you said, you know, you almost wish we were unranked uh most of the time.
- 33:54SPEAKER_02: So that's that's I dude, and I think that's a lot of like when when your team's been good for a while now, you start to understand that when you have that dog mentality and that you feel like you're underrated or underappreciated, then you just have you know more fight.
- 34:08SPEAKER_02: That's why I was a little upset that West Virginia was ranked one spot behind us because that's just extra motivation for them to just want to beat us and prove that prove them wrong and prove the the people that vote on this kind of stuff wrong.
- 34:20SPEAKER_02: And uh, you know, that's that's just you go into every game thinking the same mentality.
- 34:24SPEAKER_02: You should at least go into every game thinking, hey, I'm gonna, you know, work hard and I'm not gonna let things get in my way.
- 34:30SPEAKER_02: But uh that stuff affects you, and that stuff affects these these 18 to 21-year-old guys.
- 34:34SPEAKER_02: I mean, they're looking at the same thing that we're looking at and they're getting pissed off, and you know, so just a mental game, too.
- 34:40SPEAKER_03: We we thrive as the hunter, not we don't do quite as well as the hunted, you know.
- 34:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 34:46SPEAKER_02: And that's not and it's just not it's not as fun when you're rooting for your team and you're just hoping not to lose.
- 34:50SPEAKER_02: You're hoping to lose.
- 34:52SPEAKER_02: It's like don't blow it in this.
- 34:53SPEAKER_02: Let's blow it and let's go get them.
- 34:55SPEAKER_03: You know, it's it's different ways to watch a game.
- 34:57SPEAKER_03: Great point, and of course, play a game.
- 34:59SPEAKER_02: So yeah, so we'll see.
- 35:02SPEAKER_02: We'll see.
- 35:02SPEAKER_02: Hopefully, we'll get a couple dubs uh to start off this week and then go into the kind of final stretch here of uh Big 12 play and and go into the tournament feeling good about ourselves.
- 35:12SPEAKER_02: So um should mention baseball.
- 35:14SPEAKER_02: Baseball again, another big time ranking, number three by baseball America.
- 35:19SPEAKER_02: I think that's uh three number three rankings and one number four.
- 35:22SPEAKER_02: So a lot of top five rankings here for the Red Raiders going into the season.
- 35:26SPEAKER_02: That doesn't suck.
- 35:27SPEAKER_02: Doesn't suck at all.
- 35:29SPEAKER_02: And I think we got some uh preseason hype too.
- 35:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we got some preseason hype, yeah, for sure.
- 35:35SPEAKER_02: Dylan Noisey named preseason player of the year for the Big 12 conference.
- 35:38SPEAKER_02: And that's that's the actual Big 12 conference, you know, giving out their their uh their rankings for the preseason.
- 35:45SPEAKER_02: So uh four players also named all Big 12 preseason.
- 35:48SPEAKER_02: Uh Dylan Noisey, of course, being one of them, Cal Conley, Nate Romback, and Micah Dallas.
- 35:54SPEAKER_02: So a couple, and I recognize a couple of those names from last year's team.
- 35:58SPEAKER_02: Uh, so you know, get those guys in and uh let's get it rolling, man.
- 36:01SPEAKER_03: The road to Omaha starts real freaking soon, and I'd like to add some hardware to uh to that cabinet that's growing substantially under Tim.
- 36:10SPEAKER_03: So really excited about baseball, man.
- 36:12SPEAKER_03: It's just kind of just kind of that time in America that's just different, you know, where baseball's going on.
- 36:17SPEAKER_03: So I'm really excited about that.
- 36:18SPEAKER_02: We'll see.
- 36:19SPEAKER_02: We got some excitement going on with tech sports.
- 36:21SPEAKER_03: All right, man.
- 36:22SPEAKER_03: I don't think we got any quick fire questions to do since we had plenty to talk about.
- 36:26SPEAKER_03: I I hope y'all didn't lose too many brain cells listening to that last episode.
- 36:32SPEAKER_02: We got we got some feedback.
- 36:34SPEAKER_02: We got some feedback on some of those.
- 36:36SPEAKER_02: I mean, your brother reached out and said, How can y'all not, you know, put the uh the PM bathroom, talk about the urinal that was so I don't remember this urinal, but apparently it was about five feet high.
- 36:49SPEAKER_02: It was like as high as the sink.
- 36:51SPEAKER_03: If you're like an average height dude, you had to aim up.
- 36:54SPEAKER_03: And if you're a short guy, I'm so sorry.
- 36:57SPEAKER_03: You know, that's discriminatory.
- 36:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 37:00SPEAKER_02: So uh did not I I'm sorry for forgetting that in my answer for bar BM.
- 37:05SPEAKER_02: It's weird, dude.
- 37:06SPEAKER_03: You notice it immediately when you walk in.
- 37:08SPEAKER_03: You're like, what?
- 37:10SPEAKER_02: Am I making you journal?
- 37:11SPEAKER_02: Hello, like it makes it makes it you, but uh, and I hear I hear you have a uh you have change in your favorite.
- 37:19SPEAKER_02: I did.
- 37:20SPEAKER_03: I you know, I asked, I we were talking about favorite dinosaurs, and I just want to let you know that my favorite dinosaur has shifted to the true don.
- 37:27SPEAKER_03: So I'm I'm a big true don guy now, not so much the uh dinoticist guy anymore.
- 37:33SPEAKER_03: Definitely more of a true true don man.
- 37:35SPEAKER_03: Uh it's subject to change, but I think the trudon's gonna stick around.
- 37:38SPEAKER_03: Do you have any uh are you switching your dinosaur?
- 37:40SPEAKER_03: Are you sticking with the spino?
- 37:41SPEAKER_02: No, I'm sticking with the spino.
- 37:44SPEAKER_02: That's my boy.
- 37:44SPEAKER_03: Well, I think everybody will be the trudon.
- 37:47SPEAKER_02: You're no yours is just gonna change next week anyway, once you listen to a new episode of the dino pod or whatever.
- 37:52SPEAKER_03: I know dino.
- 37:54SPEAKER_03: Great podcast.
- 37:56SPEAKER_03: If you don't want anything that will piss you off, you just want to sit there, learn, be happy, listening to some dinosaurs.
- 38:01SPEAKER_03: I know dino podcasts, it's great.
- 38:03SPEAKER_02: Shouts out, I know.
- 38:05SPEAKER_02: So, all right, man, give me your song of the week and we'll end it off here.
- 38:09SPEAKER_03: All right, so my song of the week is I'm sure people are surprised that I took this long being a red dirt fan.
- 38:14SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna bring up the turnpike troubadours.
- 38:16SPEAKER_03: I know, rest in peace.
- 38:17SPEAKER_03: I hope no one's upset.
- 38:18SPEAKER_03: Um, I didn't I don't hope I didn't make anybody sad, but I'm gonna go with my favorite turnpike troubadour song that I think is criminally underrated that no one talks about enough is Easton and Maine.
- 38:28SPEAKER_03: Easton and Maine, it's it's about uh the Canes Ballroom in Tulsa, very famous venue.
- 38:33SPEAKER_03: And it dude, the steel guitar in that song and just the the rhythm and the speed of it, it is just a great western swing song.
- 38:42SPEAKER_03: It's not even that deep lyrically, it's just he hopes he goes back to see this girl that he danced with there.
- 38:47SPEAKER_03: So it's really good though.
- 38:49SPEAKER_01: Will I let my heart in tossing on the corner of Eastern Maine on the cane's ballroom floor, soaking up a bourbon stain.
- 39:04SPEAKER_02: Nice, nice, very yeah.
- 39:06SPEAKER_02: It took you a while to do Turnpike.
- 39:08SPEAKER_02: I thought you would, I thought that was gonna be one of your first weeks.
- 39:10SPEAKER_03: I I just wanted to open up any wounds because everyone, it's it's like the it was the like the best red dirt band out there at this time, and then they just unfortunately, uh, due to complications with the band in the band, they had to go on a hiatus.
- 39:23SPEAKER_03: I hope they get back soon though.
- 39:24SPEAKER_03: Hope Evan's better.
- 39:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so tough scene there, but uh yeah, I again I know I know some turnpike, I know the ones that got big.
- 39:32SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, what was it?
- 39:33SPEAKER_02: Long out of seven and seven, long outside.
- 39:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 39:36SPEAKER_02: I knew I knew some of those, but uh yeah, I I that's like that's like the the band of red dirt.
- 39:42SPEAKER_03: So it was, it really was.
- 39:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, no doubt.
- 39:46SPEAKER_02: So we'll see if they get back to doing it.
- 39:48SPEAKER_02: Hopefully.
- 39:49SPEAKER_02: Hopefully.
- 39:50SPEAKER_02: But uh my song of the week is uh Touched by an Angel by Charlie Wilson.
- 39:55SPEAKER_02: Uh good jam out here, really funky, really good vibes going on with this song.
- 40:01SPEAKER_02: Uh, I learned of it from uh Last Chance You in one of the one of the episodes.
- 40:06SPEAKER_02: It was one of the seasons where they were they had the white coach from Compton, uh, who like it was super like old school, like dude, like that show first off is unbelievable.
- 40:18SPEAKER_02: I don't know how those guys can be coached by those coaches, but uh trip, yeah.
- 40:22SPEAKER_02: One of them, yeah.
- 40:23SPEAKER_02: One of the one of the songs that he was like, put on some Charlie Wilson in this song play it.
- 40:27SPEAKER_02: I was like, okay, this kind of slaps.
- 40:30SPEAKER_02: So I'm in Charlie Wilson touched by an angel, man.
- 40:33SPEAKER_02: Give it a listen.
- 40:50SPEAKER_03: All right, so we it looks like we did uh devil feel good feel good vibes, devil happy, fun songs.
- 40:56SPEAKER_03: No, yeah, no snow brooding this week.
- 40:58SPEAKER_02: No, no, we're not gonna be sad about this West Virginia game.
- 41:01SPEAKER_02: We're gonna be we're gonna be happy, we're gonna be happy looking forward to the future and beating LSU and beating OU.
- 41:08SPEAKER_03: I I feel like we could definitely feel the energy shift though between the games where we're coming off like awesome wins.
- 41:14SPEAKER_03: And today we're just like, all right, hey, hey, treasured listeners, how's this going?
- 41:17SPEAKER_03: How's it going?
- 41:19SPEAKER_02: The the way of the land, man.
