- 0:18SPEAKER_01: Hello, welcome to Slander and Slay on Buzzer.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: I am Tracy Sandler of The Slander, joined by the lovely Nikki Kay of The Slay.
- 0:28SPEAKER_01: Hi, Nikki.
- 0:29SPEAKER_01: Hello, hello.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: We've got a World Series champ.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: We have a World Series champ.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: We have a massive trade in the NFL, and I have long hair.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: I kind of thought my hair was going to be the main part of the conversation today, but no, that is not the case.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: It looks so good.
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: I really appreciate that.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: But oddly enough, that's not the biggest news.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: The Midwest Are you kidding me?
- 0:50SPEAKER_02: We should wear it.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: I know we can have a moment for the hair.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: It looks really good.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: It looks so good.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: Thanks.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: I appreciate it.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: Thank you, Nikki.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: See, this is why Nikki is my co-host.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: This is why we decided to work together because we are there to build each other up on all things.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: Um, as are the Brewers, as are the Bears.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: So the Midwest is popping.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: I don't know if people still say that.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: I don't know if people have ever said that, but I'm saying it.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: The Midwest is popping.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: The Milwaukee Brewers are World Series champions.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: The Chicago Bears have traded for defensive tackle Jeffrey Simmons.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: They sent the Titans a first and a second round pick.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: Let's start there and then move into baseball.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: Because I think for the Bears, not I think, definitely not, I think, this is win now mode.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: They gave up two first-round picks, their next two first round picks.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: That is, we are ready to win.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: We think we are contenders.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: I would agree with that.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: There's Bears defense that was everyone was so worried about to start the season with all the jokes of the offense is gonna have to score 60 points, has really played pretty well, but they haven't been able to bring pressure.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: And Jeffrey Simmons, I believe, has more sacks on the season than the entire Bears defense combined.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: So this is this is a huge trade.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: This is big.
- 2:07SPEAKER_02: This is really big, and I love it.
- 2:09SPEAKER_02: I love everything in terms of the energy and momentum and an inertia that Ben Johnson has brought since taking over.
- 2:16SPEAKER_02: And you know, oh, you needed to see proof of life from Caleb Williams.
- 2:20SPEAKER_02: We've we got that, and he's back.
- 2:22SPEAKER_02: And yeah, the bears are looking at this NFC and saying, why not us?
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: A hundred percent because the NFC is pretty wide open, as we have seen.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: I mean, this is maybe the most maybe I say this every year, it could be recency bias, but it feels like this is one of the most week to week league seasons that I remember at least seeing in quite some time.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: Because I feel like one week we're like, this is the greatest football team ever assembled, and then the next week we're like, oh my god, they might be the worst football team ever assembled.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: So there's a lot of that, and you know, there's been a lot of discussion about giving up the first the first round picks the next two years.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: Is it overpaying?
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: Maybe, but the point of an NFL season is to win the Super Bowl.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: So if you were in a position where you feel like we are gonna win the Super Bowl if we just do this, or we put our you there are a lot of things that could happen.
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: You put yourself in the best position, you gotta do it.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: The Rams tried, I think they're just a hot mess, and we can certainly talk about that later.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: But even though they did beat the Raiders, so maybe they're not entirely cooked yet.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: But this is win now, and this is when you do it.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: The trade deadline is about two weeks away.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: No, a week and a half away.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: And we've seen trades already this week.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: The Seahawks have uh added an offensive lineman from the Colts, the 49ers were reuniting with DeForest Buckner.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: But this is this is the biggie.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: So I don't does it change to you kind of where you think your Super Bowl playoff, maybe Super Bowl.
- 3:55SPEAKER_02: I don't, I mean, I think a lot of things have changed who I thought would, you know, finish in like I I had the Rams, right?
- 4:02SPEAKER_02: I was thinking, right?
- 4:04SPEAKER_02: But um I think that it makes me take the Bears a lot more seriously.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I agree with that.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: They're good, they're a good team.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: They are definitely, and you can see, you know, last year when they were the Cardiac Bears and they had a quote unquote easier schedule, and people like this can't continue, they can't win games like that.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: Well, you're seeing growth.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: They do sometimes win games like that, but you're seeing a lot of growth for them from them.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: And you're right, Ben Johnson has brought an energy and a culture to this team that has been really fun to watch.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: Caleb Williams is so much fun to watch.
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: He's special, he is one of one in a lot of ways.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: So I think it's great.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: I like the Bears because I like Colson Loveland, obviously.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: So I think this is very fun.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: Um, actually, kind of funny story.
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: Last year, someone sent me a t-shirt during the playoffs that said in my Loveland era with like a big picture of something, and it didn't have like a card or anything.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: And so it took me like a solid week to figure out my friend Heather.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: But um, anyways, it's just kind of an aside.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: It was funny.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: So, guys, send a card.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: Tell people though, in Fairness Feather's era, she texted me and said, I'm sending you something, you're gonna love it.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: And it just like, I forgot.
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: Uh, but as long as we're talking about culture, uh, let's go to the world new World Series champion, Milwaukee Brewers, who Wednesday night won their first World Series.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: They were the best team in baseball season, they were the best team in baseball in the postseason.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: It's it's not even close, like the best team in baseball 100% won the world series.
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: And how fun! I mean, there were so many Brewers fans in Tampa.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: I mean, that was so cool in itself.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, the trap was rocking, but like not because of the race fans, not because of the race fans, definitely not because of the race fans.
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: It was kind of crazy.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: And then at um in Milwaukee, they sold out their stadium for watch parties.
- 5:59SPEAKER_02: I think that's fantastic.
- 6:00SPEAKER_02: I'm so happy for this fan base, for this organization, for the guys on the team.
- 6:05SPEAKER_02: Um, I think the way they played baseball is really fun to watch.
- 6:08SPEAKER_02: We've talked about it before, but they're relentless.
- 6:11SPEAKER_02: They got that chip on that shoulder uh energy.
- 6:14SPEAKER_02: And I I just you talk about like deserving.
- 6:18SPEAKER_02: This is a ball club that's deserving of this moment and the celebration.
- 6:23SPEAKER_02: I do have to say though, like my sister asked me two days ago it when the World Series started.
- 6:31SPEAKER_02: This she's normal, you know, like I don't think this was a great series for casual fans of the sport.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: Probably not, but kind of is what it is.
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: It is what it is.
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, no, no.
- 6:44SPEAKER_02: I'm just saying, like, display.
- 6:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but that's interesting.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, no, I think that that's probably true.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: Um, I do wonder if it was a great World Series for maybe avoiding, maybe, maybe, maybe avoiding a lockout or a long lockout.
- 7:00SPEAKER_02: Do you think that's a reality?
- 7:01SPEAKER_02: Like, I think we're still hurtling towards a lock.
- 7:03SPEAKER_01: I think we're still because I I think the argument of the owners that small market teams can't compete has been uh demolished since three of the final four teams were small market teams and the two remaining teams are small market teams, and a small market team won the World Series.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: But I think we are probably headed for a lockout.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: My hope, and this might be totally naive, Pollyanna of me, but that is okay because it gets to be my hope, is that either they can avoid it or it won't be that long a lockout.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: But that's kind of my that's that's kind of my thinking because I just it'll be interesting to see because yeah, that entire narrative is kaput, if you will.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: I'm just throwing out words today that I love it anyway.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: Poppin' people might say sometimes.
- 7:56SPEAKER_02: Um, I want to ask you.
- 7:58SPEAKER_02: I mean, right, we have the World Series going on simultaneously and talking about um not a big draw for the casual fans.
- 8:06SPEAKER_02: I want to ask you about what you make of what happened with the WNBA finals, where they are playing right now at 12:30 right now, 9 30 a.m.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: Pacific.
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, with game six, the Valkyries in their second season, a win away from winning the whole thing.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: So as they're down bad to Atlanta right now, though.
- 8:27SPEAKER_02: So hopefully that means we get more basketball.
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: But okay, so that our favorite words, game seven, best words in sports.
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: Um I think it's really I think it's awful.
- 8:37SPEAKER_01: You have a full fan base that is 9:30 a.m.
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: And even the 12:30 is not good for the fan base.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: I mean, I understand you wanted more people to be there, which I think is great, but this is something that should have been figured out before the weekend prior.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's that's the issue.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: And I think we've seen a lot in the WMBA this year in terms of leadership and issues that can clearly be better, but I think that's terrible.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: Like, what do you it's just an awful lot?
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: It's embarrassing.
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's embarrassing.
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and it's I think there's a fundamental disconnect between the WNBA, not the players, not the players at all.
- 9:22SPEAKER_02: No, no, no, no.
- 9:23SPEAKER_02: We're talking about the governing body, 100%, the people in charge and the fans who want to watch the games.
- 9:31SPEAKER_02: Like, people want to be excited about women's basketball.
- 9:36SPEAKER_02: We see it at the college level, like even even the people who are like, you know, no, I watch NBA, I watch men's basketball.
- 9:42SPEAKER_02: There are now people who love the game who are intrigued by the the woman's sport.
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: And the W is making it increasingly difficult for people, like just not easy for people to support.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: And it's it's a shame.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: It is a shame.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: It's a terrible shame.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: This is the finals.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: Could you imagine?
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: I mean, I understand that this is very simplistic of me, but still, could you imagine the the Knicks being in the NBA finals and playing at 12:30 Eastern, like the Knicks Lakers and the game being at 12:30 Eastern, 9:30 a.m.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: Pacific?
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: That's insane.
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: And again, I understand that they wanted to get more people in the arena, but again, this is something that should have been figured out a long time ago.
- 10:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's not like they knew what two teams were gonna be playing in a potential game six.
- 10:31SPEAKER_02: Oh, wait, they did.
- 10:33SPEAKER_02: Like, figure it, you know, figure it out.
- 10:35SPEAKER_02: The 12:30 tip off is uh it's just disgraceful and it's it's frustrating.
- 10:40SPEAKER_02: I I also think, like, you know, at some point, I mean, I saw firsthand there were so many national games on all all over this season in the W.
- 10:52SPEAKER_02: And I think we run into that.
- 10:53SPEAKER_02: It's like too many streaming platforms, right?
- 10:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you've got USA, Peacock, uh, CBS, I like all I on.
- 11:01SPEAKER_02: And at some point it it like cannibalizes itself because people don't know consistency or regularity.
- 11:08SPEAKER_02: I just think I know that you know the current commissioner, it's her last her last go, but like whoever steps in needs to have a clear-cut vision.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: I could not agree more.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: It's honestly it's disrespectful to the players, yeah, it's disrespectful to the organizations, it's disrespectful to the fans.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: And as I said before, it's embarrassing.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's just it's just not, it's not okay.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: I mean, people get upset, and I get it, when you have the NLCS and ALCS going on, and a team is playing like at 2 p.m.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: Pacific time, right?
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: 5 p.m.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: Eastern, and the Pacific time fans are upset, which is completely understandable.
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: It's kind of unavoidable with the way it's all set up, but it's understandable.
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: So to be a so then you take that time, a gazillion, in my opinion, to put the finals at 12:30 eastern, 9:30 in Pacific.
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: So I'm with you.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: I really hope whoever steps in has a clear vision.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: They have to have a clear vision and they need to really figure out how to make this work because you're right, people love this sport, people want to love the sport, people want to be engaged, and they're making it very difficult, which is really not the point.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: No, no, and how fans, you need them.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: Sorry, go ahead, Nikki.
- 12:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, I was saying, like, how can you make it easy for people to become how how can you grow the footprint when you're hiding the trail, I guess, right?
- 12:34SPEAKER_02: Like it's I like that analogy.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: I like that.
- 12:37SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 12:37SPEAKER_01: I like that a lot.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: You're welcome.
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: I like that a lot.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: No, I could not agree with you more.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: I could not agree with you more.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: So they're down bad at the moment to Atlanta.
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: By the time you guys listen to this, the game will probably be over.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: Uh, but you know what?
- 12:50SPEAKER_02: More basketball.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: More basketball.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: Game seven, it's they're the two greatest worlds in sports, especially if you don't necessarily have a strong rooting interest in one of the teams.
- 13:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, oh yeah.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: I love a game seven with no attachment.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: None.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: None.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: I could not agree with you more because when your team is in it, it's exciting, but dear lord, you want to throw up all day and night.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: I saw Jacob Ms.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: Rowski, Ms.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: Rowski said last night after the Ms, as he is called.
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: The Miz.
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: Said said last night after World Series when he was interviewed, because he started last night.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: He said he woke up, he wanted to throw up all day.
- 13:27SPEAKER_01: And I felt like that was the most relatable thing I've ever heard.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: Because when the clock turns to October for the Dodgers, I just want to throw up all the time.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: Like I'm perennially nauseous, but they're out of it.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: It's how I feel pretty much every Michigan game, more and more so based, not because of nerves, just because it's literally nauseating to see what's happening.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: But I really I was like, this is the most relatable thing.
- 13:50SPEAKER_01: Pitchers, they're just like us, they also get nauseous.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: Pictures just like us, just like us.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: So that's very fun.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: Can I I have a back to baseball?
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: I have a question for you.
- 14:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I felt this way last night.
- 14:03SPEAKER_01: I saw some people say it on social, so I want to get your opinion on this.
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: Is there something about baseball, no matter who wins the World Series, that you get a little emotional watching it when they win and celebrate?
- 14:17SPEAKER_02: I mean, I think that's just any uh for me personally.
- 14:21SPEAKER_02: I don't know if it's just baseball.
- 14:23SPEAKER_02: And also we I've been in the mix with a team that I've wanted to succeed, right?
- 14:27SPEAKER_02: So, like, of course I get emotional, but like I think I get emotional when it is the arc de triumph, right?
- 14:34SPEAKER_02: Like, and that what that's what it was for the Brewers, or it's like I wouldn't get emotional, let's say if the I I would get emotional if the Thunder won their first NBA championship.
- 14:44SPEAKER_02: I wouldn't get that way if they won it back to back.
- 14:47SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: Like interesting.
- 14:49SPEAKER_02: Okay, yeah.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: I don't know if it's just baseball or if it's just the narrative of the victors.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: So I feel like for me with baseball, and I'm gonna preface this with I am an emotional person.
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: There's that that is who I am.
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: I'm a weeper.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: Yes, I'm a weeper.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: I am a weeper.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: Someone sent me today a thing about how Freddie Peralta spent all those years with the Brewers, went to the Mets, got traded to the Rays, and had to watch the Brewers win the World Series after he left.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: And I like kind of started to cry.
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: Even though I knew it just happened, yeah, it's such a bummer.
- 15:24SPEAKER_01: And even though I knew it happened when I actually watched the like social media video of it, I was like, this is very upsetting.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: And I didn't, you know, if Freddie Peralta's got a great career going and all of that, but that's got to be really, really tough.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: Tough.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: There is something for me about baseball that, and I don't know if it's because the season's so long.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: Oh, I think I lost you for a second.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: But I don't know if it's because the season is so long, or because you watch them jump all over each other on the field, but there is something about it that definitely makes me emotional.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: I don't know what happened, but I'm I don't know what happened either, but I was telling the people, and now I'm gonna tell you there's something about baseball, and I don't know if it's because the season's so long, or there's something about watching everybody jump all over each other on the field in a way that's different than other sports.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: I get emotional about it, but I also will say with baseball, there's the how can you not be romantic about baseball?
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: And in my opinion, baseball pain is the worst pain when your baseball team loses, like in the playoffs, even if they get, I mean, if they get swept, it's kind of like, okay, well, this was over.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: And no, this year, like no one was being the Brewers.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: But I feel like baseball pain is the worst pain.
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: And I do think that is because the season's so long, and you're so invested, and you're watching these guys every day for six months, and you like feel like you're in it, but I don't know.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: It makes me like a little emotional.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: And listen, I was so happy for the Knicks to win, yeah, but it didn't make me emotional.
- 16:51SPEAKER_02: I mean, I guess that makes sense.
- 16:53SPEAKER_02: I mean, I think the baseball celebrations on the field is even at you know, the DS, CS, like, yeah, there's something very um provocative, like in terms of like making you want to feel also and you're you also there's something I think different.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: And I, as I'm thinking about like the Michigan basketball national championship, maybe not, but I think there's something too about like it's the bottom of the ninth last night, they get it out.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: Now you know what about today.
- 17:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, then there's three, you know, I mean, like the one out of eight.
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: There's something about it.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: And I was thinking, you know, when Michigan won the national championship in basketball, I was there, and you could you could taste it with a few, but it's a little bit different than it's a very like a very clear-cut one out of eight, two out of eight, you know, that kind of thing.
- 17:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, fair, fair, fair.
- 17:37SPEAKER_02: That's no, I guess that makes sense.
- 17:39SPEAKER_02: And uh, yeah, just seeing the celebrations on like you're right, there is something very emotional about it.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: I also would like you to know that if I were a Brewers fan, I would be Dazzle of Contreras jersey so fast it would make your head spin.
- 17:53SPEAKER_02: I love I love that out of you.
- 17:55SPEAKER_02: I think you need to but you need to just start a business.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: You know, I could.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: Here's my problem with starting the business.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: I myself am not the bedazzler because I am not, I don't know how to bedazzle.
- 18:07SPEAKER_01: I probably could figure it out, but I there's a wonderful woman I know who has a business of bedazzling.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: I think you could be maybe like her agent or something, like just a report.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: That's a good idea.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: That's a good idea.
- 18:20SPEAKER_01: A bedazzling agent specifically.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: That feels like my calling.
- 18:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, sparkle fairy, Nikki.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: Sparkle fairy is fully my calling.
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: Done.
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: This podcast is gonna be called Slay because I am leaving to start my sparkle fairy business.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: I'm just gonna filibuster all pod all the time, and please, please tell people about my new sparkle fairy business.
- 18:44SPEAKER_02: Then I'll get a cut.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, oh, for sure.
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: You came up with Sparkle Fairy that is what a dream come true that would be.
- 18:51SPEAKER_01: It's amazing.
- 18:53SPEAKER_01: Uh, I want to turn our attention to something not as fun, um, but I think we have to talk about it, and that is the Chiefs signing Justin Tucker.
- 19:03SPEAKER_01: And I just I it shouldn't surprise me, but for those of you who do not know, uh former Ravens kicker who served a suspension, multiple counts of sexual assault or accusations of sexual assault against him, and the Chiefs sign him.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: And it shouldn't be surprising, also, because the Chiefs don't have Harrison Butker.
- 19:25SPEAKER_01: Well, but he's I would say Harrison Butler has yeah I don't agree with his views, but I wouldn't say but very better, you know, you can't put them in this conversation.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Roshi Rice, like they don't care, you know.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: They'll they'll take, I think there was someone else too that I'm um forgetting at the moment, but they just don't care.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: So it's just disappointing.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: It shouldn't be surprising generally, but you know, it's as women who cover the NFL, who love the NFL, it does create like a little bit of, you know, there's a push and pull there of this is part of the business, and we do support the business, right?
- 20:04SPEAKER_02: And it's it's the same thing with it's like I we've talked about Cleveland, right?
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: And like their fans must be excited, but some might be tormented, and it's like on the backs of a guy who's got a lot of you know, dirty stuff hanging over his name.
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: So I just yeah, it's it's a bummer.
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: It is, it's a bummer.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: I think it is a bummer.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: Uh so I felt like we had to address it because it is a bummer and it needs to be discussed.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: And I Andy Reid was asked about it multiple times in his Wednesday media availability.
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: It's a tough question to answer.
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: I do not think his answer could not have been worse.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: Something to the effect of he served a suspension and all that business is taken care of.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: Something along and paraphrasing, but that basically the business part, he said that word.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: Um, and he said he served a suspension.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: So it's just it's just disappointing.
- 20:59SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 21:00SPEAKER_02: I also kind of feel for the coaches when they're asked about that, because they're not the person, they're not making the personnel decisions, but at the same time, they have to have the bottom line of the franchise, right?
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: Like they're not, but I don't think they're out of out of the loop.
- 21:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 21:15SPEAKER_01: I don't think they're out of the loop.
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: You know, I think no, he's not making the full personnel decision, but um I do think they're especially at Antioch.
- 21:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's not as removed as like a baseball infrastructure would be, but right, yeah, yeah.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: So I did see, by the way, a funny tweet about Harrison Bucker the other day that when he missed his second field goal, someone tweeted every time he misses a field goal, a woman becomes an astrophysicist.
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: I'm also writing down who says these tweets because they're great, and then I forget who actually No, that's a good one.
- 21:47SPEAKER_02: The one liners sometimes when they just land, that one they they nailed it.
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they really did.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: They really nailed it.
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: Well, speaking of the Chiefs, uh, they got there's a few games this weekend of interest.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: First of all, tonight, Packers.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Panthers.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, the Packers have a lot of pressure on them.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: You cannot bring the vibes down in the state of Wisconsin, guys.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: Like you are obligated to win this game.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: Not to mention the Bears.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: The Bears trade.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: And the Bears are Monday night football.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: But yeah, it's like it's a big weekend ahead.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: The Chiefs play the Broncos.
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: I'm pulling up all the games right now because I don't want to forget one.
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: But yeah, we got a big uh I feel like that's a must-win for the Broncos.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: It is a must-win.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: I would agree it's a must-win for the Broncos.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: Also, the last time they played the Chiefs, which was Monday night to start the season, it was such an like it was an embarrassment.
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: It was so bad.
- 22:38SPEAKER_01: Um, and yeah, now the Broncos are at home.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: They're on a winning streak.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: I think it is a must-win for the Broncos.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: Uh, we have the Eagles at the Commanders.
- 22:45SPEAKER_01: It's just not what it was.
- 22:47SPEAKER_01: No, like it was gonna be.
- 22:49SPEAKER_01: But Monday night is the Bears at the Seahawks.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: So that's gonna be the game.
- 22:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:53SPEAKER_01: Seahawks are uh an interesting team.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: Obviously, they're still very, very, very good.
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: And we've seen that they've had you know a few losses, but I there this is what's an exciting time for the NFL because it's November, December football that separates.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: So your team can have three losses right now, which is really not that big a deal.
- 23:17SPEAKER_01: It's what happens in these next two months, and that's where we see, you know, that's where that's where we see the teams that are kind of somewhat fraudulent and those that are not.
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: You and I talked about this last week on uh Fox Sports Radio about the Rams.
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: And are they in fact cooked?
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: I mean, actually, this weekend you have the Chargers at the Rams, which is funny because obviously they both want to see them.
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: I mean, I don't even know.
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: Someone has to win that game.
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: The rain, I I kind of think the Chargers get their first win coming off the bye.
- 23:52SPEAKER_02: Oh, I'm gonna say, yeah, they need one, and also Sean McVay saying we're not gonna see Miles Garrett still for another 21 days, right?
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: Would we say that this trade could we call it a bust yet?
- 24:05SPEAKER_01: I mean, a bust, maybe not a bust forever, right?
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: When we talked, we started the the show talking about the trade for Jeffrey Simmons from the Bears for the Bears and the win now mode.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: And we did, I mentioned the Rams.
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: They went into the season, they made that trade for Miles Garrett, Aaron Dodd.
- 24:22SPEAKER_01: Like this was win now mode, and not only are they not winning all that often, their prize trade target or trade acquisition has played in one game and was hurt.
- 24:38SPEAKER_01: Why he didn't have that surgery that he had after that game in July is a mystery to me.
- 24:45SPEAKER_01: But it feels like maybe not again, not forever, but how much longer is Matthew Stafford gonna play?
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: Like how much this window that they feel is closing and made that trade for, it's not looking great.
- 24:58SPEAKER_02: And in many ways, yeah, you're I I mean it was almost like the Rams defense last year is like, if it's not broke, why why tinker with it?
- 25:09SPEAKER_02: You know, and so yeah, I don't know.
- 25:13SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 25:13SPEAKER_02: There's a lot of yeah, a lot of questions going on.
- 25:16SPEAKER_02: The Rams, if if you're the Rams, you what happens in Vegas, you don't want to keep in Vegas, you want to bring that energy.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: Uh Sean McVeigh sounded like a lot happier after that after that game than he had been the previous couple weeks.
- 25:29SPEAKER_02: But yeah, the Chargers are are desperado, and I guess like if you can have anything to like hang your hat on, it's beating the Rams, who were quote unquote Super Bowl favorites in the same city you guys share, you know.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: And where neither of you have won a game all season, So Fi.
- 25:45SPEAKER_01: So one of them is going to leave.
- 25:47SPEAKER_01: No, no, no, just have one win.
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: Oh, you're right, you're right, you're right.
- 25:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm sorry.
- 25:52SPEAKER_01: I keep getting confused because the Cardinals have more, but I forgot about that.
- 25:56SPEAKER_01: You're right.
- 25:57SPEAKER_02: It's been tough times, it's been tough times in Sofa.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: It has definitely been tough times in SoFi, as we've talked about before.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: They need to like save the building.
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: Um, okay, yes, I forgot that the Rams do have one win there.
- 26:07SPEAKER_01: See, this is why we don't.
- 26:10SPEAKER_01: We complete each other.
- 26:12SPEAKER_01: We do complete each other.
- 26:14SPEAKER_01: Heartwarms.
- 26:15SPEAKER_01: Um, I want to get more into Bears and Seahawks.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: However, what we have not mentioned, and I think deserves mentioning, would be the performance of one JJ McCarthy on Sunday against the Texans defense.
- 26:29SPEAKER_01: Wax poetic, Tracy.
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: I will lay out for you here.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: I mean, I could not have been prouder if JJ McCarthy were my child.
- 26:41SPEAKER_01: I was so excited.
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: Last week we talked about the Aura Ring thinking I was dancing.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: This year it thought I was doing Pilates.
- 26:49SPEAKER_01: Or this week.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, thought it was doing it.
- 26:53unknown: Yeah, flanking for JJ.
- 26:55unknown: Oh wow, what a fun.
- 26:56SPEAKER_01: That sounds like a fun.
- 26:57SPEAKER_01: Maybe in my sparkle fairy business, we'll pull down flanking for JJ social media campaign.
- 27:02SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: Flanking for JJ would be amazing.
- 27:05SPEAKER_01: But he was tremendous.
- 27:07SPEAKER_01: Uh, the haters will say, well, he had six great throws and the Texans defense isn't what it was.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: I don't he's on the road in his first start.
- 27:15SPEAKER_01: Maybe the Texan defense isn't what it was, but it's still a pretty decent defense with a lot of talent.
- 27:22SPEAKER_01: And I mean, it was it was a team effort.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: The running back room showed up and really understood the assignment.
- 27:29SPEAKER_01: Uh, JJ made he made six amazing throws and the stuff that he maybe couldn't do last year in Minnesota.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: However, I will make the argument.
- 27:39SPEAKER_01: He is undefeated in his last like five stars.
- 27:42SPEAKER_01: He did finish strongly in Minnesota.
- 27:45SPEAKER_01: And I'm gonna say something else right now.
- 27:47SPEAKER_01: And I hope you are watching and listening, Kevin O'Connell, the quote unquote quarterback whisperer.
- 27:53SPEAKER_01: JJ was this like cast off of like, oh, if the quarterback whisperer couldn't get it done, whatever.
- 27:57SPEAKER_01: That was like the narrative that I just think the Vikings were a part of.
- 28:01SPEAKER_01: Let me tell you something about this quarterback whisperer.
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: Sam Darnold will talk about his time with the 49ers as being kind of what changed for him in his career.
- 28:11SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: JJ goes to New York and actually really kind of picks up a little bit where he left off.
- 28:17SPEAKER_01: I know it's been five quarters and there was a long way to go, but you could see the difference.
- 28:21SPEAKER_01: Like you could just see the difference in his confidence, in the throws he was making, in the decisions he was making, all of that.
- 28:27SPEAKER_01: You know, and Kyler Murray is not exactly setting the world on fire in Minnesota, and you know, he's so close to picking up the offense.
- 28:35SPEAKER_01: Well, he's been in the league for what, eight years, and he's been picking up the offense since training camp, since before then.
- 28:43SPEAKER_01: So that's what I have to say about that.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: And I just that's what I have to say.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: Fair.
- 28:49SPEAKER_02: You girl, this is your this is your space to have a platform.
- 28:53SPEAKER_02: And I, you know what?
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: Wax poetic, please.
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: I will wax poetic about JJ.
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: Um, a fabulous brand, Therese sent me a couple Giants pieces.
- 29:05SPEAKER_02: I saw those.
- 29:06SPEAKER_02: I was like, okay.
- 29:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're really, really cute.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: Shameless plug.
- 29:09SPEAKER_01: If you're a Giants fan, go to my shop my.
- 29:11SPEAKER_01: They're really, really cute.
- 29:12SPEAKER_01: There's like one's a rugby shirt and one's like a sparkly sweatshirt.
- 29:15SPEAKER_01: Uh, so I'm ready.
- 29:16SPEAKER_01: The Giants aren't a buy, but I have time to get like my fits together for the future.
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: Um, as I said in my Instagram story with the shirt, like I'm a huge Giants fan.
- 29:25SPEAKER_01: I have been for about a week and a half, and so it really meant a lot to me to get those pieces.
- 29:29SPEAKER_01: But I had to wax politic on JJ because I feel like he earned it, and I feel like I earned it.
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: I have been in this man's corner.
- 29:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm always happy for a reclamation opportunity for any of these guys, right?
- 29:43SPEAKER_02: Especially it's like you just feel for them.
- 29:46SPEAKER_02: It is such a do-or-die league.
- 29:48SPEAKER_02: And to get the chance to come back and to have, you know, to have that opportunity, it's it's great.
- 29:56SPEAKER_01: And to have kind of been cast off after 10 starts at 23 years old is kind of bananas.
- 30:02SPEAKER_02: It's it is, it is it, it's also the national football league, right?
- 30:05SPEAKER_02: Like so, but yeah, to be cast off, but I'm glad he got the opportunity to lead, too, not just go and be another backup in another quarterback room, right?
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I want to give major props to Jameis Winston because he's been nothing but a class act, and he was talking about him on a podcast and talked about how he gave them a spark and it kind of changed the team.
- 30:28SPEAKER_01: I think that that's awesome.
- 30:30SPEAKER_01: So I love it.
- 30:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's just fantastic.
- 30:35SPEAKER_02: He is as advertised too.
- 30:37SPEAKER_02: Like that is who he is in person, and he's just awesome.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: That's awesome.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: I've never met him in person, so that's really fun to hear.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: Um, all right.
- 30:45SPEAKER_01: Well, let's close a little bit by talking a little bit more bears at Seahawks Monday night.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:52SPEAKER_01: It becomes, I think it becomes an even higher pressure game for the uh for the Bears because they've made the trade.
- 30:57SPEAKER_01: And granted, Jeffrey Simmons will have been there about a minute and a half, so there is that.
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: But, you know, all of a sudden, and I kind of felt this way before the trade, it potential NFC championship preview.
- 31:10SPEAKER_01: And I know we're months away from that, but we are, as we talked earlier, we're starting to kind of get in that mode a little bit.
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: And I think also if you're the Seahawks, you know, I think there's obviously a foundation of like understanding that what this team can and should accomplish and trust in terms of the observers of how they can play.
- 31:32SPEAKER_02: But their offense has been pretty like it single dimensional for different reasons, right?
- 31:38SPEAKER_02: Whether it's Darnold's injury or uh Charbonnet, like you just I if I'm the Seahawks, I want to see more from their offense.
- 31:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, I a hundred percent agree with that.
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: They had a huge game the other night against the Chiefs.
- 31:50SPEAKER_01: They really shut down their their Super Bowl MVP, Kenneth Walker, who is now on the Chiefs, and their defense looked every bit the defense that we've been expecting to see from them.
- 32:00SPEAKER_01: But yes, we do need to see more from their offense.
- 32:02SPEAKER_01: Sam Darnold is gonna have to cut down on these interceptions.
- 32:06SPEAKER_01: It's he's had that reputation for much of his career.
- 32:10SPEAKER_01: Uh last year was better, much, much, much better.
- 32:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:14SPEAKER_01: But that is a huge, huge thing for them.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: I do want to say one thing real quick, just because the haters will come for me.
- 32:21SPEAKER_01: I understand the Vikings are undefeated, but that's because their defense I don't know how long that lasts.
- 32:25SPEAKER_01: But I think back to back to Sam Darnold in this game.
- 32:28SPEAKER_01: But I think this is this is a big, big game.
- 32:32SPEAKER_01: It was a big game for both teams, and it's a big game for Caleb too to go to a really tough atmosphere on Monday night football at a time where now there is a little bit even more of a target on the Bears because they're they're true contenders.
- 32:45SPEAKER_01: I mean, to me, and I look at the NFC, the contenders that come to mind immediately are the Seahawks, are the Niners, are the Bears, um the Packers, TBD, yeah, Vikings, the Vikings, their defense is tremendous.
- 33:02SPEAKER_01: We're gonna have to see if that offense can catch up.
- 33:07SPEAKER_01: Uh, but I don't know.
- 33:09SPEAKER_01: This is uh it's a big one.
- 33:11SPEAKER_01: This is a fun game.
- 33:12SPEAKER_01: I'm excited for this one.
- 33:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I love the parody going on in the league right now.
- 33:15SPEAKER_01: I think it's awesome.
- 33:16SPEAKER_01: It's great.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: It's it makes it it makes it more fun.
- 33:19SPEAKER_01: It really it's it just feels very much any given Sunday.
- 33:23SPEAKER_01: Any given Sunday.
- 33:25SPEAKER_01: Um with or Thursday or Monday, yeah, or sometimes Wednesday and Friday, or often to Saturday.
- 33:31SPEAKER_02: Uh Thanksgiving Wednesday, yeah, or Christmas.
- 33:34SPEAKER_01: Any given Christmas, any given Christmas, any given anything.
- 33:38SPEAKER_01: But no, it's been fun.
- 33:39SPEAKER_01: The parody in the league this year has been a lot of fun, and I don't know, it's gonna be a cool couple months.
- 33:45SPEAKER_01: It's interesting.
- 33:46SPEAKER_01: We're going into week eight, and in some ways it feels like the season has flown by, and in some ways it feels like, oh my gosh, we have so much more because we do, but there it's like kind of, and maybe it is the parody in the league because every week is such an adventure, and you just don't know who's gonna win.
- 34:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and nothing seems like established or solidified or for real, even you know, like going into last week and the Chiefs and Niners undefeated, and you kind of have the sense that, like, okay, are these really undefeated teams?
- 34:17SPEAKER_02: And like, of course, both lose.
- 34:19SPEAKER_02: So, yeah, it feels like we still have a lot to learn.
- 34:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I agree with that.
- 34:25SPEAKER_01: So it's gonna be it's gonna be really fun.
- 34:27SPEAKER_01: Well, Nikki, I've had a lot of fun with you today.
- 34:30SPEAKER_02: So much fun, always, always.
- 34:33SPEAKER_02: Dreamers still up massively on the Valkyrie.
- 34:35SPEAKER_02: So by the time I think we can say, I I'm saying we're getting a game seven in the WMB.
- 34:40SPEAKER_01: It feels like we're gonna get a game seven.
- 34:43SPEAKER_01: Two best words in sports.
- 34:45SPEAKER_01: That's gonna be that's gonna be fun.
- 34:47SPEAKER_01: I think the Valkyries are such a great story.
- 34:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, both teams is a great story.
- 34:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, angel Reese with the dream has been, well, kind of a dream.
- 34:54SPEAKER_01: And the the Valkyries, you're welcome for that.
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: The Valkyries, like I said earlier, in their second season, and they've created such that's the other thing with the 9:30 a.m.
- 35:03SPEAKER_01: Pacific start time.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: They've created such a fan base in such a short amount of time.
- 35:08SPEAKER_01: You'd like to see that fan base be able to advise it.
- 35:10SPEAKER_02: Honor it.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, honor them.
- 35:12SPEAKER_02: Like it's just ridiculous.
- 35:13SPEAKER_02: But hopefully the next commissioner has has some better ideation of how to steer the ship.
- 35:20SPEAKER_01: Good word.
- 35:21SPEAKER_01: And good analogy.
- 35:23SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 35:24SPEAKER_01: Uh, you can find me on X at Tracy FGSN and on Instagram and TikTok at Tracy Sandler.
- 35:30SPEAKER_01: Nikki, where can everyone find you?
- 35:32SPEAKER_02: I'm little.nikki.k on Instagram and TikTok and Nikki KSN1 on X.
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: You guys please make sure to subscribe, rate, review, slander and slay on buzzer.
- 35:45SPEAKER_01: We'll talk to you guys next week.
