- 0:00Speaker 1: Ok now we know that the first neighborhood Watch meeting
- 0:03Speaker 1: is going to be happening out at Zacholi this afternoon.
- 0:06Speaker 1: And joining us on the line right now to tell
- 0:08Speaker 1: us a little bit more about it. It is Shelley
- 0:10Speaker 1: Lay from the IgA out at ZACOLEA.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Good morning to you, Shelley.
- 0:15Speaker 3: Good morning Katie. How are you?
- 0:17Speaker 1: Yeah, really well and good on you guys for organizing
- 0:22Speaker 1: this neighborhood watch meeting, the first of it's kind happening
- 0:25Speaker 1: this afternoon six till seven, isn't it.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Yeah, we've just allocated an hour. We'll see whether people
- 0:31Speaker 3: want to stay on or whether it will finish early.
- 0:34Speaker 3: But we've got a bit of a lineup happening. We've
- 0:36Speaker 3: got the Neighborhood Watch Inta coming along, victims of crime,
- 0:42Speaker 3: the police will be here. We'll also have our local
- 0:46Speaker 3: member of Parliament, Lea if No Theiaro here.
- 0:48Speaker 4: So we've hopefully got a bit.
- 0:50Speaker 3: Of an agenda happening, so we can add value and
- 0:53Speaker 3: try and discuss some ways we can keep our neighborhood
- 0:56Speaker 3: as safe as possible.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Yeah, good on you, because so many if our listeners
- 1:00Speaker 1: will be familiar with you and the conversations that you
- 1:03Speaker 1: and I have had over the last couple of years,
- 1:06Speaker 1: and some of the terrible situations where you've been broken
- 1:09Speaker 1: into and I know that it's you know, there's been
- 1:12Speaker 1: different different times that have been really, really very tough,
- 1:16Speaker 1: but you've actually gone all right, well, let's try and
- 1:19Speaker 1: make something positive out of this and get the community
- 1:21Speaker 1: together and see how we can look out for each other.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Yeah, that's definitely it, Katie. It's the negative turning into
- 1:28Speaker 3: a positive and if we can help other people so
- 1:32Speaker 3: we can prevent the same sort of trauma that we
- 1:35Speaker 3: experienced last year. Where we're all into that and we're
- 1:39Speaker 3: very happy to sort of facilitate this get the community together.
- 1:43Speaker 3: We did campusit towards the end of last year on
- 1:47Speaker 3: our social media and the response was fabulous. People are
- 1:51Speaker 3: really keen, so with what we're really just aiming to
- 1:54Speaker 3: do is to get go back to basics and get
- 1:57Speaker 3: our community to get to know their neighbors.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Shelley, have you got any idea how many people are
- 2:02Speaker 1: going to rock up?
- 2:04Speaker 4: I have no idea, No RSVP required, so it's I
- 2:11Speaker 4: may not have anyone who knows. I've got some flatters
- 2:16Speaker 4: getting made up, so we'll have some nice light refreshments
- 2:20Speaker 4: for everybody, and.
- 2:21Speaker 3: If they're popping on their way home, maybe just pick
- 2:25Speaker 3: up some tips on how to secure your property and
- 2:28Speaker 3: even just look at how people are if there are
- 2:32Speaker 3: places being broken into, all things being stolen, a bit
- 2:35Speaker 3: of crime happening, just just sort of be aware how
- 2:38Speaker 3: that's taking place, whether they're just looking for opportunities stick circumstances,
- 2:43Speaker 3: whether they see a window open, cars unlocked, front door
- 2:48Speaker 3: just latched over and not fully key locked, you know,
- 2:50Speaker 3: like the things that dirt crims. They just go, hey,
- 2:54Speaker 3: this is easy. I'm just going to go in. And
- 2:57Speaker 3: just to remind people that if it's your place is
- 3:00Speaker 3: harder than the place next door, then they're going to
- 3:03Speaker 3: go to the place next door.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Shelly, how have things been for you guys when it
- 3:08Speaker 1: comes to, you know, break ins over the Christmas break
- 3:10Speaker 1: and stuff, has it been a little bit a little
- 3:12Speaker 1: bit better.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Well, they've been around, yeah, that's for sure, But Jumbo's
- 3:18Speaker 3: still working a treat. A few have tried to take
- 3:22Speaker 3: Jumbo on and but they've quickly retreated once he's sort
- 3:29Speaker 3: of let them know that he's here and in full force.
- 3:32Speaker 3: So look, it's a shame that we do have to
- 3:37Speaker 3: to put this here. But we're still struggling with the
- 3:41Speaker 3: roller doors and getting the approval with that blocking the
- 3:47Speaker 3: fire exits off, which we're currently still working on. But
- 3:50Speaker 3: that is our very long working progress.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Oh goodness, may it seems like it's it's a difficult
- 3:55Speaker 1: one for you to kind of get through in terms
- 3:57Speaker 1: of being able to sort those roller doors out.
- 4:00Speaker 3: I know, and nobody understood how hot like, you know,
- 4:04Speaker 3: just put them on. And I'm like, if we put
- 4:06Speaker 3: them on, they could just be ripped off if they're
- 4:09Speaker 3: not approved. So we want to do things the right way.
- 4:14Speaker 3: It's just a very costly exercise.
- 4:15Speaker 4: Unfortunately.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Hey, Shelly, how are the shelves looking.
- 4:18Speaker 1: I know it's been difficult, a difficult few days for
- 4:21Speaker 1: quite a lot of retailers around the place when it
- 4:24Speaker 1: comes to, you know, to their stock levels with those
- 4:28Speaker 1: roads cut.
- 4:28Speaker 2: How are things going for you guys?
- 4:30Speaker 3: Yeah, Actually we're pretty good. We've got lots of fruit
- 4:33Speaker 3: and beg on the shelf. We've got chicken. Meat's a
- 4:37Speaker 3: little bit low, but I am expecting some more in tomorrow.
- 4:42Speaker 3: And one thing I've really noticed in this and some
- 4:44Speaker 3: of the delivery drivers have said, come you guys are
- 4:48Speaker 3: getting so much of this, and the local suppliers have
- 4:54Speaker 3: said it's because they support us every week. The big
- 4:58Speaker 3: guys don't use us every week. So we've made sure
- 5:01Speaker 3: that we're looking after the people that support us every week.
- 5:04Speaker 3: So finally supporting local is really showing its true colors.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Good.
- 5:10Speaker 3: We're able to keep our shelves as stock as we
- 5:15Speaker 3: possibly can.
- 5:16Speaker 2: That is awesome. That is great to hear.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Hey, Shelly, someone's just messaged through in Dust. How much
- 5:21Speaker 1: does it cost for you guys to have jumbo they're
- 5:24Speaker 1: patrolling the patrolling the building.
- 5:27Speaker 3: Four grand a week.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Oh, four grand a week? Uh huh, oh my goodness.
- 5:34Speaker 3: You know those are not sustainable. This is meant to
- 5:37Speaker 3: be a little bit of a band aid until we
- 5:39Speaker 3: were able to get roller doors, which I thought would
- 5:43Speaker 3: be fully installed after they were made by Christmas. But
- 5:48Speaker 3: it's the certified getting it approved that has been the
- 5:53Speaker 3: big hurdle. Ohow yeah.
- 5:55Speaker 1: And you know, I suppose the thing is like it's
- 5:59Speaker 1: unsustainable to keep paying that amount of money, but it's
- 6:01Speaker 1: something that you've done so that you're able to you know,
- 6:04Speaker 1: to not get broken into.
- 6:07Speaker 3: And we've done it for the shop and We've done
- 6:09Speaker 3: it for the community. We didn't want this little suburb,
- 6:14Speaker 3: it's so beautiful that has beautiful families living into it
- 6:18Speaker 3: subjected to crime or people who want to have taken
- 6:22Speaker 3: crime in this area, and when we see some other
- 6:26Speaker 3: suburbs that just keep getting hit and hit, so we
- 6:30Speaker 3: want to keep it out and we're trying our best
- 6:32Speaker 3: to do so. But there's going to be a point
- 6:34Speaker 3: where we can't continue doing it.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Oh, Shelley, you are a good egg. Thank you so
- 6:41Speaker 1: very much for your time today. Now, just a reminder, though,
- 6:44Speaker 1: where can people rock up if they are if they
- 6:46Speaker 1: want to take part in the in the meeting tonight.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Yeah, so just come along six o'clock, no RSVP needed.
- 6:53Speaker 3: We'll be out the front of the IgA in the
- 6:56Speaker 3: plaza there undercover should there be any rain. And we
- 7:00Speaker 3: look forward to actually seeing a lot of familiar faces
- 7:04Speaker 3: but new ones as well, because it would be really great.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Just our motto is to get to know your neighbor
- 7:10Speaker 3: and then to work together to try and reduce any
- 7:12Speaker 3: type of crime in the area.
- 7:14Speaker 1: I love it, I love the community spirit.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Let us know how it goes.
- 7:18Speaker 3: Thanks Katie, and thanks for having us on. We really
- 7:20Speaker 3: appreciate it and we look forward to seeing Nicolleens tonight.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Sounds good, Thanks Shelley,
