- 0:01Human interactions. Human relationships have both a
- 0:06surface meaning and a subtle, hidden, energetic action.
- 0:11One of the most powerful vital energies in human life is sexual
- 0:15relations. By examining how this force
- 0:18operates both overtly and on the occult levels, we can quickly
- 0:23see the mechanism that takes place with all vital forces at
- 0:27work. In human affairs.
- 0:30The sexual energy is alluring to most human beings.
- 0:33It is surrounded by a host of taboos, which makes it even more
- 0:38tempting to people who try to figure it out in their lives
- 0:42while trying to address the mixed signals they get from the
- 0:45society. For some, the ostensible purpose
- 0:49of sexual relations is purely for the purpose of bringing
- 0:52children into the world. It is, however, a fact that
- 0:57sexual activity takes place for many reasons not associated with
- 1:01childbearing. There are other values
- 1:04associated with sex that go beyond the reproductive
- 1:08necessity. This brings us to review a
- 1:12spectrum of hidden meanings behind the sexual activity that
- 1:15takes place. On the one extreme, some use it
- 1:19to establish dominance, to humiliate and control others, or
- 1:24to enslave someone to their will.
- 1:27Sexual violence has nothing to do with sex per SE.
- 1:31It is rather A use of the sexual act to control, dominate, and in
- 1:37most cases to make up for a sense of inferiority that the
- 1:41perpetrator feels about himself. He seeks to aggrandize himself
- 1:46by making other subservient to himself and by humiliating them
- 1:50to make himself feel superior. This is, however, and extreme,
- 1:56and there are other ways to approach the sexual energy.
- 2:01For instance, there are individuals who understand that
- 2:04the sexual energy should be controlled and redirected,
- 2:08repurposed, sublimated, to build up other higher energetic powers
- 2:14in the being. Many yogic practitioners
- 2:17describe the conversion of the basic sexual force retus into a
- 2:22foundational and transformational force, ojas,
- 2:27that sends the energy upwards from the first chakra to
- 2:31successively higher energy centers in the being and their
- 2:35characteristic powers and expression, and which leads to
- 2:40eventual liberation. We see Western psychologists
- 2:44describing the transformation of the basic sexual impulse into a
- 2:48creative force once controlled and directed.
- 2:51As a corollary to this view, the sexual energy need not be
- 2:57carried out in overt physical acts in order to be felt and
- 3:00responded to. We can observe the sexual
- 3:04tension that arises when an individual focuses attention on
- 3:08another with a powerful sexual urge, and when the other person
- 3:13is able to vibrate to the same force, a reciprocating response
- 3:18occurs. Western science describes the
- 3:21action of pheromones that automatically activate the
- 3:25sexual response in people, but it goes further than this, to an
- 3:30actual vital vibratory pattern that can be received, accepted
- 3:36and responded to by creation of a sympathetic vibration in the
- 3:40other person. Even at a distance beyond the
- 3:43range of the pheromones. Much of modern cinema works to
- 3:50create sexual tension in the viewers as our modern society is
- 3:54increasingly fixated on sexuality, its allure and
- 3:59exploring the taboos that have arisen in the society through
- 4:03millennia of attempts to control this powerful vital force.
- 4:09For most people, however, engaged in relationships with
- 4:12others on an interpersonal basis, there are many more
- 4:16messages sent through sexual relations than just the overt
- 4:20physical act, or even the overt enjoyment or sensory stimulation
- 4:25that may occur. There can be feelings
- 4:28communicated of caring, intimacy, support, love,
- 4:34goodwill, and a sense of growing closer, sharing life energies
- 4:39and joining forces to create a strong power of common action in
- 4:44the world. When there is mutuality in the
- 4:47relationship, a deep mutual bonding can result in such
- 4:52cases. When the relationship is not
- 4:55completely mutual, there can be a sense of draining or drawing
- 4:59away of the other party's energy, or a communication of
- 5:03feelings of sadness, depression or despair.
- 5:07Anything active in one person can be communicated by this
- 5:11close linkage to the other person involved.
- 5:16For the yogic practitioner living in the world, it becomes
- 5:21important to be aware of the forces at work both overtly and
- 5:25covertly, and be able to choose how and in what manner to have
- 5:30such a relationship and what the boundaries can and should be in
- 5:34any such relation. As with every force in the
- 5:38world, the seeker will recognize the place and right use of the
- 5:44sexual energy and determine at some point how to uplift,
- 5:49transform and develop the evolutionary next step in human
- 5:54interactions. Sri Aurobindo writes Quote There
- 6:00is always a drawing of vital forces from one to another in
- 6:03all human social mixture that takes place automatically.
- 6:07Lovemaking is one of the most powerful ways of each drawing
- 6:10upon the other's vital force, or of one drawing the others, which
- 6:16also often happens in A1 sided way to the great detriment of
- 6:20the other. In the passage come many things.
- 6:24Good and bad, elation, feeling of strength and support,
- 6:30infiltration of good or bad qualities, interchange of
- 6:34psychological moods, States and movements, depressions,
- 6:38exhaustion, the whole gamut. People don't know it, which is a
- 6:43mercy of God upon them. But when one gets into a certain
- 6:47yogic consciousness, one becomes very much aware and sensitive to
- 6:52all this interchange and action and reaction.
- 6:56But also one can build a wall against reject, et cetera, et
- 7:00cetera. It is a wall of consciousness
- 7:04that one has to build. Consciousness is not something
- 7:07abstract. It is like existence itself, or
- 7:12ananda or mind or prana, something very concrete.
- 7:17If one becomes aware of the inner consciousness, one can do
- 7:21all sorts of things with it. Send it out as a stream of
- 7:24force, erect a circle or wall of consciousness around oneself.
- 7:30Direct an idea so that it shall enter somebody's head in
- 7:34America, etcetera, et cetera. End Quote Reference Shriorobindo
