- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, welcome to Inside the Data on Inside the Birds.
- 0:13Speaker 1: I'm Jeff Mosher. I'm with our data and analytics expert
- 0:16Speaker 1: Sam Finkel and Si. It's the final Inside the Data
- 0:20Speaker 1: of the regular season. I imagine Sam, you're good to go
- 0:23Speaker 1: for the playoffs, right, I'm ready? All right? Cool? Cool,
- 0:26Speaker 1: Because you know it could be a long run like
- 0:27Speaker 1: it was last year. It could be. So it's been
- 0:31Speaker 1: an exciting year sort of defensively yes, offensively, data analytics
- 0:36Speaker 1: maybe not so much. But we've really uncovered a lot
- 0:38Speaker 1: of interesting things. And what I like about this season
- 0:41Speaker 1: wrap up episode is, no, we're not going to focus
- 0:43Speaker 1: on the season finale with a bunch of backups playing.
- 0:45Speaker 1: We're gonna go look at the entire season analytically as
- 0:49Speaker 1: a whole, and you put together some really good We
- 0:52Speaker 1: talked about it beforehand. We're not gonna go through every
- 0:55Speaker 1: single player on the rosters like EPA per this per
- 0:57Speaker 1: the Adorsus, we'd be here forever. But we went through
- 0:59Speaker 1: some really vital team statistics and analytics and then also
- 1:04Speaker 1: some individual ones that tell an important story.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Absolutely, did you burn the.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Candle at both ends for this one? Or was it
- 1:11Speaker 1: a there's one stat I gotta I'm gonna when we
- 1:14Speaker 1: get to it, I'm gonna say, how did you how
- 1:18Speaker 1: long did it take you to come up with that? Okay,
- 1:19Speaker 1: because I think you'll know when we get there, but general.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Curious which one you're talking This would be interesting for me.
- 1:26Speaker 2: But yeah, no, I I this was a good study.
- 1:31Speaker 2: There were some that were a little bit surprising, I felt.
- 1:34Speaker 2: And then honestly, a lot of it made sense from
- 1:38Speaker 2: what we've seen, just watching what I've seen just watching,
- 1:44Speaker 2: But some of the statistics were a little bit surprising.
- 1:46Speaker 2: How comparable the Eagles were, especially to their opponents.
- 1:49Speaker 1: All right, give me, just give us an appetizer, and
- 1:52Speaker 1: when we get to it, we'll focus more in on it.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Which category may be surprised you a little bit?
- 1:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, first off, the average drive, I guess
- 2:01Speaker 2: at first, is a little bit surprising because the Eagles
- 2:04Speaker 2: are at two point fifty two and their opponents are
- 2:07Speaker 2: at two fifty one, and I think what kind of
- 2:09Speaker 2: explains that? And then the play differential is a little
- 2:11Speaker 2: bit more, right, so the opponents at six point two
- 2:14Speaker 2: and the Eagles are at five point seven to six,
- 2:17Speaker 2: and I think what caused that difference to be honest
- 2:20Speaker 2: with you, is how long it took the Eagles to
- 2:23Speaker 2: actually get a play off. Yes, so despite the fact
- 2:27Speaker 2: that they're calling almost one more play, then the fact
- 2:31Speaker 2: that they have the snap off with like a second
- 2:34Speaker 2: to go at least probably explains that. But seeing it
- 2:39Speaker 2: actually visually was a little bit shocking at first.
- 2:42Speaker 1: You watched the season finale, right, of course, did you
- 2:45Speaker 1: feel that the ball got snapped and they got out
- 2:47Speaker 1: of the huddle and snapped the ball?
- 2:48Speaker 2: Quicker, Yes, me too, definitively, and the data shows that too.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Yeah, and I was surprised by that because I don't
- 2:55Speaker 1: think it's only been a Jalen Hurts thing. But if
- 2:57Speaker 1: you were, obviously to make a deduction on it, right,
- 3:00Speaker 1: different quarterback, but obviously, and I think they ran the
- 3:03Speaker 1: offense the same way. I mean, they were mainly shotgun
- 3:05Speaker 1: a few under center. It wasn't like they did anything
- 3:09Speaker 1: for formationally or strategically radically different with the backups in.
- 3:14Speaker 1: But that did stand out to me, and it made
- 3:16Speaker 1: me just wonder about the operation as a whole and
- 3:19Speaker 1: maybe if there's a disconnect there, But that's that's for
- 3:21Speaker 1: postseason discussion, and when we get to this and your
- 3:25Speaker 1: data point, will we'll go through it more so, let's
- 3:28Speaker 1: go let's go right ahead and see what you have
- 3:32Speaker 1: here put together. And we always start, as we will,
- 3:36Speaker 1: with the sort of the the opponents versus the Eagles.
- 3:39Speaker 1: This is the recap of the entire season as opposed
- 3:42Speaker 1: to just one game. So I guess what fascinated me,
- 3:47Speaker 1: Sam is and I don't know if I should be
- 3:51Speaker 1: surprised by I guess if we were doing this last year,
- 3:53Speaker 1: I think the would have been a lot more green
- 3:55Speaker 1: on the side of the Eagles. But because of circumstances
- 3:58Speaker 1: this year, it's a little more split.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely, but close, but.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Close to your point, like in many average yards per
- 4:06Speaker 1: game three eleven compared to three fourteen is what are
- 4:10Speaker 1: we talking about? Three yards game? That's not a huge
- 4:12Speaker 1: you know deal there.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Right one hundred and as you can see, the stats
- 4:17Speaker 2: that I was talking about are on the bottom of
- 4:20Speaker 2: this chart, which I guess might as well start there
- 4:24Speaker 2: for a section to a little bit of continuance. Sure, basically,
- 4:29Speaker 2: also the average yards per drive is probably could be
- 4:33Speaker 2: yellow too. It's twenty nine point three for the Eagles
- 4:35Speaker 2: and twenty nine point four for the opponents. But the
- 4:37Speaker 2: Eagles scored actually higher than their opponents on their drives
- 4:41Speaker 2: at two point zero versus one point eighty one.
- 4:44Speaker 1: So that to me is reflective of the fact that
- 4:46Speaker 1: the Eagles had a pretty good red zone offense this year,
- 4:49Speaker 1: a very good red zone offense this year. They didn't
- 4:51Speaker 1: get there as much as other teams, but their percentage
- 4:54Speaker 1: was pretty high. And then conversely, I believe I don't
- 4:58Speaker 1: have the number in front of me. I thought the
- 4:59Speaker 1: Eagles red zone defense was pretty good too.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Yeah, it definitely was. Yeah, but yeah, that's those were
- 5:06Speaker 2: the points I was kind of talking about. So just
- 5:08Speaker 2: I guess with the context of that, all those data
- 5:11Speaker 2: points explaining the average drive for the Eagles versus their
- 5:14Speaker 2: average drive of the opponents, that was a little bit
- 5:17Speaker 2: surprising some of it. Yeah, And I think that's probably
- 5:20Speaker 2: I probably should have said that in the intro of
- 5:22Speaker 2: what we were talking about, but.
- 5:24Speaker 1: No, I only asked you to what the appetite a little.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Now we we get right into the main course. So
- 5:28Speaker 1: that's good, no doubt. Eagles have the ninth ninth best
- 5:31Speaker 1: red zone defense this.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Year, by the way, pretty good, not surprising at all.
- 5:35Speaker 1: So yeah, in fact, maybe maybe one of the slight
- 5:37Speaker 1: improvements from last year, because if you recall, their low
- 5:41Speaker 1: red zone defense was not great and C. J. Gardner
- 5:44Speaker 1: Johnson was guilty of a lot of rub route touchdowns allowed,
- 5:48Speaker 1: especially the first half of the year. But but go.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Ahead, Yeah, absolutely, I mean there's there's a couple of
- 5:54Speaker 2: reasons why he is no longer on the roster. So yeah,
- 5:57Speaker 2: but that's that's tough. But let's let's go back to
- 6:01Speaker 2: the top and go down. As you said, you know,
- 6:05Speaker 2: their points four is higher than their opponents three seventy
- 6:09Speaker 2: nine to three twenty five. The average points per game,
- 6:12Speaker 2: you know, like what you said, the three points higher.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Yards they opponents exceeded them, not by much. Average yards
- 6:21Speaker 2: per game exceeded by also three yards.
- 6:23Speaker 1: There you go.
- 6:25Speaker 2: The plays they had seventy more plays their opponents. The
- 6:29Speaker 2: yards per play Eagles actually exceeded their opponents, mostly because
- 6:33Speaker 2: they had to. They had to make the most of
- 6:34Speaker 2: their limited opportunities. The Eagles won the turnover battle overall.
- 6:41Speaker 2: They lost the penalty battle. Surprisingly, no, not for anybody.
- 6:46Speaker 1: No, that's that's got that's a really alarming stat. By
- 6:49Speaker 1: the way, it's one of those underdiscussed alarming stats by
- 6:53Speaker 1: the Eagles.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's a pretty significant difference. For sure.
- 6:57Speaker 2: The opponents had about three more drives, actly three more
- 7:00Speaker 2: drives than the Eagles at one seventy seven.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Uh.
- 7:04Speaker 2: And the scoring percentage was exactly the same, which was
- 7:07Speaker 2: a little bit surprising, especially when you look in the
- 7:09Speaker 2: context of the average drive. And then the turnover percent
- 7:14Speaker 2: was lower, so and that's reflected and the team total
- 7:17Speaker 2: turnovers lost, So.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Not only the penalty, I guess I don't want to
- 7:24Speaker 1: be at a dead horse. We all know the offense struggled
- 7:26Speaker 1: this year. We all know it. We all know about
- 7:29Speaker 1: the third down issues that we'll talk about. But when
- 7:31Speaker 1: you put these numbers side by side for an entire season,
- 7:35Speaker 1: and you take into an account that the Eagles have
- 7:38Speaker 1: the highest paid offense in the National Football League, one
- 7:42Speaker 1: of the highest paid quarterbacks, one of the highest paid
- 7:44Speaker 1: running backs, to the highest paid receivers, and even with
- 7:47Speaker 1: the pay cut Dallas got it, are still among the
- 7:49Speaker 1: higher paid tight ends. Right, and then of course the
- 7:52Speaker 1: offensive line, where four of the five guys are on
- 7:54Speaker 1: good contract extensions. You know to have been out gained
- 8:00Speaker 1: by your opponents this year, and not because your defense
- 8:03Speaker 1: is bad, Right, That this is not a defensive stat
- 8:07Speaker 1: is shocking, to be honest with you. It's not shocking
- 8:11Speaker 1: at week eighteen here or going into the playoffs because
- 8:13Speaker 1: we've seen it all year. But if someone would have
- 8:15Speaker 1: presented this your breakdown to any Eagles front office person, coach, fan,
- 8:22Speaker 1: media member prior to the season and said this is
- 8:24Speaker 1: what it's going to look like, you would have gotten
- 8:27Speaker 1: laughed out of the building exactly. So it's worth really discussing, like, wow,
- 8:33Speaker 1: what a drop. You know.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a pretty significant drop. And it's not just
- 8:38Speaker 2: the statistics that show it. I mean, we have some
- 8:40Speaker 2: more statistics that will show it. And honestly, if you
- 8:43Speaker 2: watched any of the games or any of the film,
- 8:45Speaker 2: you'd see it right there.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Sure. So they finished plus six in the turnover ratio
- 8:51Speaker 1: correct at fifteen twenty one, so they're plus six. Yep.
- 8:54Speaker 1: I'm trying to remember how that compares to last year.
- 8:57Speaker 1: I'm going to try to see if I can quickly
- 9:00Speaker 1: bring that up, because I thought it was it was
- 9:03Speaker 1: really in the playoffs last year that they had a
- 9:06Speaker 1: I think it was thirteen to four takeaway ratio. I
- 9:09Speaker 1: can probably look that up as well. But last year
- 9:13Speaker 1: the Eagles were plus eleven, That's what it was, plus eleven.
- 9:16Speaker 1: They had twenty six takeaways and fifteen giveaways. So this
- 9:22Speaker 1: year they're at plus six, so they were not as
- 9:25Speaker 1: takeaway driven this year. As good as the defense was,
- 9:29Speaker 1: the offense probably well, the offense turned the ball over
- 9:31Speaker 1: just about the same time, right fifteen. When I say
- 9:33Speaker 1: fifteen last year giveaways fifteen this year. So ye, yeah,
- 9:38Speaker 1: fifteen this year and fifteen last year, so that's the same.
- 9:41Speaker 1: I think that that's kind of interesting just going into
- 9:43Speaker 1: the playoffs because remember last year, there was nobody even
- 9:48Speaker 1: close to the Eagles in turnover differential in the playoffs.
- 9:51Speaker 1: They were plus twelve. The next best team was the Bills.
- 9:54Speaker 1: There were plus four, all right, so the Eagles at
- 9:56Speaker 1: thirteen takeaways. The Eagles had as many almost as many
- 10:00Speaker 1: takeaways in the playoffs in four games, right four? And
- 10:03Speaker 1: they play four, yeah, four games, then they had the
- 10:07Speaker 1: entire year, Folks, that doesn't happen every year. I'm not
- 10:12Speaker 1: saying that those aren't go to create takeaways here in
- 10:14Speaker 1: the playoffs, and they very well might have another good
- 10:17Speaker 1: takeaway year postseason, but to be that high, to have
- 10:21Speaker 1: that many is it was a real testament to how
- 10:24Speaker 1: well they were playing. But you can't live off that.
- 10:27Speaker 1: My point is, Sam, and I think you would agree,
- 10:30Speaker 1: they really need the offense to just snap out of it.
- 10:32Speaker 1: They can't rely on flip fields and three turnovers like
- 10:36Speaker 1: they did in the NFC Championship game. I don't think
- 10:38Speaker 1: that's that's realistic to me.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Yeah, And a lot of it feels kind of like
- 10:42Speaker 2: self imposed issues right the offense. I mean the fact
- 10:46Speaker 2: that they can't get the ball off fast enough and
- 10:49Speaker 2: it just gives the defense an extra second to jump,
- 10:51Speaker 2: like they know when the play is coming so they
- 10:54Speaker 2: can time their jumps. There's just they shoot themselves in
- 10:57Speaker 2: the foot to play. Sequencing still has not been great,
- 11:00Speaker 2: the play calling still has not been great, The offensive
- 11:02Speaker 2: line has not been great. So there's just things like
- 11:05Speaker 2: that make it difficult.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Which segues really well into our favorite stat that we
- 11:10Speaker 1: like to look at. Your favorite is our favorite one
- 11:14Speaker 1: to not really like to talk about.
- 11:17Speaker 2: But it's done.
- 11:18Speaker 1: I mean definitely, yeah, the most telling run right. I mean,
- 11:21Speaker 1: I mean, if you if you wanted to find one
- 11:23Speaker 1: definable stat about the Eagles offense this year, this would
- 11:26Speaker 1: be it, wouldn't it.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so. Yeah, So I.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Wanted to give some perspective here because we give the
- 11:33Speaker 1: percentage of all the time, but I want to explain
- 11:34Speaker 1: to people where they rank. So last year, as your
- 11:39Speaker 1: data shows here, the Eagles converted forty two percent forty
- 11:44Speaker 1: one point seven percent of their third downs. That was good,
- 11:48Speaker 1: not great. It was tenth in the NFL. So this
- 11:51Speaker 1: year they're about four points lower, maybe almost five, close
- 11:56Speaker 1: of five points lower at thirty seven point one, which
- 12:00Speaker 1: is outside the top ten. Of course, so they've really
- 12:04Speaker 1: fallen there, sam.
- 12:05Speaker 2: They really have.
- 12:06Speaker 1: And their opponents have risen, Yes, their opponents have risen.
- 12:10Speaker 1: So this is it's just all a recipe to kind
- 12:13Speaker 1: of wonder how far can this thing really go before
- 12:17Speaker 1: the raw data, which really can tell you who you are,
- 12:20Speaker 1: catches up to you. Yep.
- 12:22Speaker 2: One, it's not great. It's not great evidence really right.
- 12:28Speaker 1: And then, of course the most damning stat of it
- 12:31Speaker 1: all I know. We joked that in late November and December,
- 12:34Speaker 1: when they started to win a few games, it started
- 12:36Speaker 1: to tilt more positively. But then by the time the
- 12:39Speaker 1: season was over, you have the Eagles just basically living
- 12:43Speaker 1: in third and long right, one hundred and sixteen snaps
- 12:50Speaker 1: of third and long compared to I'm gonna go with
- 12:53Speaker 1: ninety four. My quick man tells me of third and shortened,
- 12:56Speaker 1: third and medium combined.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Crazy, it's not good. Yeah, it's not good. It just
- 13:03Speaker 2: shows that, you know, they didn't really find their offensive identity.
- 13:07Speaker 2: They really never did, and the play calling and the
- 13:09Speaker 2: play sequencing is not setting them up well for third down.
- 13:13Speaker 2: You can't stay on schedule if the play calls don't,
- 13:15Speaker 2: you know, mesh, If they don't, they don't go well together. Correct,
- 13:20Speaker 2: It's tough.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Right now. The opponent's also in third and one long
- 13:25Speaker 1: over one hundred times, so that's that's a good thing
- 13:26Speaker 1: for the defense.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:28Speaker 1: The conversion rate at twenty five point seven is what
- 13:31Speaker 1: you would expect when you're in third and long all
- 13:32Speaker 1: the time. So that's good too. Yeah.
- 13:34Speaker 2: I mean the Eagles outperformed their opponents on third and
- 13:37Speaker 2: mid and third and long because they had to most
- 13:39Speaker 2: of the time.
- 13:40Speaker 1: They had to. Now, maybe another under discussed, and this
- 13:44Speaker 1: isn't nearly as big as some of the things we
- 13:46Speaker 1: were talking about offensively, but third and short percentage opponents
- 13:50Speaker 1: converted sixty four percent just under this year as opposed
- 13:53Speaker 1: to just under fifty nine percent last year. So the
- 13:56Speaker 1: Eagles not as tight on third and short as they
- 14:00Speaker 1: were in the past as they were last year, or no, no,
- 14:03Speaker 1: as as they are.
- 14:04Speaker 2: I guess as the opponents.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Yeah they're there.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Last year data they definitely were better than fifty niner right, sure, right.
- 14:13Speaker 1: So just another area. Uh, then we go to our
- 14:17Speaker 1: our art year.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Yeah, that's just showing the frequency. So that's not the
- 14:22Speaker 2: conversion rate, that's.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Correct, just the frequency of existing in third down, which
- 14:28Speaker 1: you know, fifty five percent of the time, so more
- 14:31Speaker 1: often than not they are in third and long. Yeah,
- 14:35Speaker 1: when they're in third down scenarios. Yep, crazy man, that's crazy.
- 14:42Speaker 2: Can't say you're terribly surprised.
- 14:43Speaker 1: I know that when we when you did this at
- 14:46Speaker 1: one point you put other teams in the state that
- 14:49Speaker 1: were in the same category of how often they were
- 14:52Speaker 1: in third and long at over fifty percent, and it
- 14:54Speaker 1: was like Cleveland, Tennessee, right, the Eagles like they were
- 14:57Speaker 1: in the Jets and the Jets. Yeah, so this is
- 15:00Speaker 1: what the Eagles offense data and analytically has been comparable
- 15:05Speaker 1: to this year those teams, which is all right here, Sam,
- 15:11Speaker 1: We're gonna go a little bit to the advanced stats
- 15:13Speaker 1: of the offense. Now here's where there's a stat that
- 15:16Speaker 1: I'm like, how did you How long did it take
- 15:18Speaker 1: you to research that? Can you? Can you think about
- 15:20Speaker 1: which one?
- 15:24Speaker 2: I don't. I'm not sure no.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Because it's a stat that you yourself sort of created
- 15:30Speaker 1: before the fact. Yeah, in that time before pressure, that
- 15:33Speaker 1: the Eagles ranked twenty fourth means to me that you
- 15:35Speaker 1: had to take your ID the formula and apply that
- 15:38Speaker 1: to the thirty one other teams.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Yeah I did. I did. It was easy. I just
- 15:43Speaker 2: exported the data into an Excel spreadsheet and then just
- 15:46Speaker 2: did the did it and then rank them.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Dude, I got to hang out with you more. I really,
- 15:50Speaker 1: I probably am now having you described that, Like I
- 15:54Speaker 1: know I could know to do it, but wouldn't think
- 15:57Speaker 1: to do it. So I would literally probably just go
- 16:00Speaker 1: to each team and be doing the mathematic and it's
- 16:03Speaker 1: just a simple, right, like addition or subtraction.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Yeah it was.
- 16:06Speaker 1: But yet nonetheless, if of a spreads sheet can do
- 16:09Speaker 1: it for you in ten seconds, then I suppose that's
- 16:11Speaker 1: a lot easier.
- 16:12Speaker 2: But I would that was super easy. But I wanted
- 16:15Speaker 2: which is okay, I could have done time to throw
- 16:17Speaker 2: and time to pressure as ranked, and I decided not
- 16:20Speaker 2: to because I think you need them combined to really
- 16:24Speaker 2: comprehensively understand, And that's why I created the stat They're
- 16:29Speaker 2: really advanced statistic of net time before pressure. Regardless, I
- 16:34Speaker 2: just thought that it would be more compelling to show
- 16:36Speaker 2: that part of it.
- 16:37Speaker 1: So fair, and what what do you make of the
- 16:40Speaker 1: Eagles being minus point zero two there? I would imagine
- 16:42Speaker 1: if you did this last year, the number would be positive.
- 16:46Speaker 2: I don't know if it would be positive last year.
- 16:48Speaker 1: I have all the sacks that he took, maybe or yeah.
- 16:50Speaker 2: But also like he is a natural extender. He's not
- 16:55Speaker 2: quite Matt Patrick Mahomes, but a lot of the time
- 17:00Speaker 2: buying time for himself, right, And what constitutes a pressure
- 17:05Speaker 2: is not always an objective metric. Fair, So I think
- 17:09Speaker 2: that that is partially part of it, but at the
- 17:12Speaker 2: state to the same degree that it's not necessarily a
- 17:16Speaker 2: bad thing. Now, this is a negative statistic. It means
- 17:20Speaker 2: that you know you're throwing while pressured, which is not great.
- 17:24Speaker 2: But I mean, if you're extending the play and making
- 17:26Speaker 2: the most of it, it's it's it's palatable. I guess
- 17:30Speaker 2: I would say.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Right, I mean some of it to your point, as
- 17:32Speaker 1: you're inviting the pressure by holding on. It's not like
- 17:35Speaker 1: your offensive line has been terrible right in past, bro,
- 17:37Speaker 1: But because of that, you've given your receivers a little
- 17:40Speaker 1: extra time to get open. And obviously that that that's
- 17:43Speaker 1: the case with Jalen a lot of times.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Exactly, So it doesn't necessarily scare me. See that's a
- 17:49Speaker 2: negative number, and honestly last year's statistic probably also was negative.
- 17:54Speaker 1: True. I'll give a great example the Bills game. One
- 17:56Speaker 1: of his best throws was that roll out to the
- 17:59Speaker 1: right where he hit Aj Brown right on the right sideline.
- 18:02Speaker 1: I think it was a third down two. Do you
- 18:04Speaker 1: remember that that throw? I do, yeah, zip past the
- 18:08Speaker 1: ear of the defender and right into AJ's hands. That
- 18:11Speaker 1: that's an example of probably probably was over three seconds
- 18:14Speaker 1: on how long he had the ball, and there was
- 18:16Speaker 1: some some pressure just because he was rolling and the
- 18:19Speaker 1: defense was going his way, but you know, he zifted
- 18:21Speaker 1: in there and it made a positive play out of it. Yeah.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Just so you know, the time to pressure last year
- 18:29Speaker 2: was two point eighty four, okay, and the time to
- 18:33Speaker 2: throw was three point h five, So actually it was
- 18:36Speaker 2: minus point two to one.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Wow, so I got a little You're right, it was
- 18:40Speaker 1: comparable or a little bit better even, right.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Yeah, So, which is kind of what I expected, because
- 18:45Speaker 2: I think that's just kind of what you get with
- 18:46Speaker 2: Jalen Hurts.
- 18:47Speaker 1: Yes, the EPAS, I mean we've sort of joked about
- 18:53Speaker 1: at some point by the end of the year, they
- 18:55Speaker 1: were probably all going to be negative. And now it's
- 18:57Speaker 1: not a joke.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not a joke anymore. Thing is that most
- 19:00Speaker 2: offenses were negative. I mean they were thirteenth in EPA
- 19:04Speaker 2: per play correct at negative zero point zero three.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Right, right, it's not it's yeah, this is not the
- 19:10Speaker 1: worst offensive league. It's just an average offense.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's also very interesting that the average offenses
- 19:18Speaker 2: are still negative, you know, Yeah, you know that.
- 19:22Speaker 1: That's a great point, Sam, and it really invites this
- 19:24Speaker 1: discussion that we can probably have some other time, or
- 19:29Speaker 1: who are the best offenses in your mind that come
- 19:31Speaker 1: to the league as far as just being prolific. How
- 19:33Speaker 1: many how many prolific offenses do you think there are
- 19:36Speaker 1: in the NFL this year?
- 19:40Speaker 2: Probably three?
- 19:41Speaker 1: Right? Like the Rams, right, the I guess the Patriots
- 19:45Speaker 1: are somewhat prolific offensively Yah is an MVP candidate. I
- 19:49Speaker 1: think the Cowboys probably have been prolific offensively. They've scored
- 19:52Speaker 1: a lot of points this year.
- 19:53Speaker 2: So you just named one, two and five on the
- 19:57Speaker 2: EPA per play.
- 19:58Speaker 1: By the way, okay, the fact that the Cowboys, of
- 20:00Speaker 1: a losing record are in the time, I guess the
- 20:02Speaker 1: Cowboys are fifth. I'm guessing, or okay, who's the third?
- 20:05Speaker 2: By the way, the Buffalo Bills.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Bills, which, by the way, they are not a great
- 20:10Speaker 1: offensive team. This is actually going to prove my point
- 20:15Speaker 1: more so than I even thought, because they have like
- 20:17Speaker 1: two playmakers, Josh Allen and their running back. Right, they're
- 20:20Speaker 1: their weapons or just pedestrian. But how many awesome defensive
- 20:26Speaker 1: teams are there? There's the Broncos, There's the Texans, There's
- 20:30Speaker 1: the Eagles, right there is the I'm forgetting an obvious
- 20:34Speaker 1: one in the NFL. Oh, the Packers defense has been
- 20:37Speaker 1: excellent this year. So Arsons are without him, mostly with him,
- 20:42Speaker 1: but I mean they were pretty I mean they've been
- 20:43Speaker 1: a little banged up. Obviously, Jordan Love not playing the
- 20:46Speaker 1: last few games changes their offensive calculus. But in general,
- 20:49Speaker 1: I think that Jeff Affley has done a great job
- 20:51Speaker 1: the Seahawks, thee oh h, how did I not mention
- 20:53Speaker 1: the Seahawks and even the Rams at times have been
- 20:56Speaker 1: stifling defensively. So I think that makes sense to me
- 20:59Speaker 1: that a negative EPA is gonna be average and most
- 21:04Speaker 1: teams are in negative because I just think it's more
- 21:06Speaker 1: there are better defenses this year than there are offenses.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Well, can you guess how many offenses are have a
- 21:12Speaker 2: positive epauh.
- 21:15Speaker 1: That's a great question. So if the Eagles at point
- 21:18Speaker 1: three minus point three r thirteenth, I will say six.
- 21:23Speaker 2: The answer is nine, nine, okay, and ten if you
- 21:26Speaker 2: include zero because the Broncos of zero.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Oh okay, so yeah, let's call it ten. Ten don't
- 21:32Speaker 1: have a positive one then, right or not? No, the
- 21:35Speaker 1: Broncos are at zero, so we'll kind of count that
- 21:37Speaker 1: as a negative because it's not positive. So that means
- 21:41Speaker 1: twenty four of the thirty two teams. I'm bad at Matt,
- 21:44Speaker 1: twenty three of the thirty two teams have a negative
- 21:46Speaker 1: or neutral EPA. Yeah, perfect is that's the defensive ahead
- 21:51Speaker 1: of the offense this year.
- 21:52Speaker 2: The way it is, it really is. But what's even
- 21:55Speaker 2: more interesting is there is no team like the cut
- 21:59Speaker 2: fall off from the Broncos to the next team up,
- 22:02Speaker 2: which is the Bears and the Colts is zero to
- 22:04Speaker 2: plus point zero three. Wow, So I think that's interesting too.
- 22:09Speaker 1: That is very interesting, all right, good stuff. That was
- 22:13Speaker 1: a good, good, good kind of contextual information. Oh if
- 22:17Speaker 1: we forgot to getting the running game here. So hmm,
- 22:20Speaker 1: average separation three point four that's just not great. I
- 22:23Speaker 1: mean seventeenth for the firepower that the Eagles have, and again.
- 22:28Speaker 2: That's when targeted, When targeted, that's an important context. Yeah,
- 22:32Speaker 2: it's not scheming, guys, open, I agree.
- 22:34Speaker 1: I think that's that's also more about the offensive scheme
- 22:37Speaker 1: right now, and than there's about any individual player.
- 22:41Speaker 2: And you know what's sad. The best stat on here
- 22:44Speaker 2: is the fact that they faced a stacked box, the
- 22:48Speaker 2: fifth most. That's that's there's no other stat in the
- 22:52Speaker 2: top ten.
- 22:53Speaker 1: Right, so they faced only four teams faced more stacked
- 22:58Speaker 1: boxes than the Eagles this year. Yes, well that kind
- 23:00Speaker 1: of explains the run success being way down. They're obviously
- 23:04Speaker 1: facing a lot more guys in the box. Yeah, and
- 23:07Speaker 1: then middle of the pack as far as light box.
- 23:10Speaker 1: So very interesting stuff, all right, may get through some
- 23:14Speaker 1: great passing stats.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Let's do it.
- 23:19Speaker 1: What jumps out of you on Jalen Hurst's passing stats.
- 23:23Speaker 2: You know, I think I have to go to CPOE.
- 23:26Speaker 2: I mean, it's a statistic that Hurts led the league
- 23:29Speaker 2: in last year, and I think a lot of it.
- 23:32Speaker 2: I like to always talk about how this is not
- 23:34Speaker 2: just a Jaalen Hurt statistics. So first off, let's just
- 23:37Speaker 2: go over what CPOE is again. So basically what it is,
- 23:41Speaker 2: it takes your completion percentage and it does what an
- 23:43Speaker 2: expected quarterback would do is completion percentage. And if you
- 23:48Speaker 2: do better than what's expected based on the algorithm that
- 23:51Speaker 2: they have, then you would have a positive CPOE. And
- 23:54Speaker 2: so what that what actually counts for that is if
- 23:58Speaker 2: a quarterback makes a tough throw and the receipt makes
- 24:00Speaker 2: a tough catch. So it's a statistic that accounts for,
- 24:04Speaker 2: you know, the incredible playmaking, particularly of DeVonta Smith. I
- 24:07Speaker 2: think it more than really anyone else, but also aj
- 24:10Speaker 2: Brown and really any of their pass catchers and Jalen
- 24:13Speaker 2: Hurts putting the ball in a good spot. Yeah, but Hurts,
- 24:17Speaker 2: who led last year in CPOE, is ninth this year
- 24:21Speaker 2: in CPOE, which I think he really can see in
- 24:24Speaker 2: the gameplay something I'm interesting in that I'm going to
- 24:27Speaker 2: check is what his actual CPOE was last year that
- 24:29Speaker 2: he led the league in, because I think that context
- 24:32Speaker 2: kind of matters. So while I pull that up, is
- 24:34Speaker 2: there anything that stood out to you?
- 24:36Speaker 1: Well, it's just sort of fascinates me that in a
- 24:39Speaker 1: year where he has twenty five touchdowns, which I believe
- 24:42Speaker 1: was his most of his career, he gives you a
- 24:46Speaker 1: passer rating of ninety nine, which I think is a
- 24:49Speaker 1: little higher than his career passer rating as well, that
- 24:53Speaker 1: he would make strides like that, but then we would
- 24:55Speaker 1: see dips in other categories, which again are not just
- 24:59Speaker 1: all jail. It hurts like CPOE is. I think the
- 25:03Speaker 1: scheme coaching, all that the play calling puts that into account.
- 25:08Speaker 1: I just I find CPOE and those kind of over
- 25:11Speaker 1: expectation stats fascinating SAM because they have to be more
- 25:16Speaker 1: subjective than other analytical stats, because it's not like it's
- 25:22Speaker 1: the same person who created the formula judging every single
- 25:25Speaker 1: NFL pass every week. This army of people who are
- 25:29Speaker 1: in charge of deciding what kind of pass is completable,
- 25:34Speaker 1: easily routine and what kind of pass is not. And
- 25:38Speaker 1: if it were the same person then at least, if
- 25:40Speaker 1: you said you could say, well, I don't know if
- 25:43Speaker 1: this person does anyth about football, but at least it's
- 25:45Speaker 1: this person's grading for every single place. So whoever's number one,
- 25:50Speaker 1: you could say they're one because this guy saw a
- 25:53Speaker 1: person saw saw at all, Like I don't. I would
- 25:56Speaker 1: love to just get more into how the formula works
- 25:59Speaker 1: and how people abide by the formula, the ones who
- 26:02Speaker 1: were supposed to be judging the passes. But that has
- 26:04Speaker 1: nothing to do with Jaalen Hurts. It's just my how
- 26:06Speaker 1: my mind works on the stat by itself.
- 26:08Speaker 2: I want to know the heuristics that they use for sure. Yeah,
- 26:12Speaker 2: but Jalen Hurts last year it was more than double CPO.
- 26:15Speaker 2: He was at six point three percent.
- 26:17Speaker 1: I had a feeling it was pretty I thought it
- 26:19Speaker 1: was seven or eight, but yeah, six sounds right.
- 26:22Speaker 2: Yeah, and his EPA per drop back dropped significantly from
- 26:28Speaker 2: last year.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Right.
- 26:30Speaker 2: His e PA per drop back last year was point
- 26:38Speaker 2: one two.
- 26:39Speaker 1: Oh, that's pretty big to grow to point oh one
- 26:42Speaker 1: from point point what one two? Yeah? Point one two,
- 26:47Speaker 1: that's pretty that's pretty big. By the way, the interceptions
- 26:50Speaker 1: it says he's ranked six with six I'm assume that
- 26:52Speaker 1: you mean that's the sixth fewist amongst start.
- 26:55Speaker 2: Correct, right, Okay, Yeah, and all the statistics I rank
- 26:58Speaker 2: it as in like what would be positive or prevalent
- 27:01Speaker 2: if it's not, it's not like a you know, this
- 27:05Speaker 2: is a good stat it's like what you face the most. So, right,
- 27:08Speaker 2: it'll always be framed in that vehple.
- 27:10Speaker 1: Right, So they're all the whatever best. That's the ninth
- 27:13Speaker 1: most touchdowns, the sixth fewest interceptions, it's twelve best passer
- 27:17Speaker 1: rating exactly. So let's get into your Jalen Hurts scrambling
- 27:21Speaker 1: stats because I have a question about it, but I
- 27:23Speaker 1: want you to introduce the concept and the information first. Yeah.
- 27:26Speaker 2: So this was one of the NFL Pro statistics that
- 27:29Speaker 2: it gave him. The Insights page of the Eagles, Jalen
- 27:32Speaker 2: hurt scrambled on a career low nineteen point eight percent
- 27:34Speaker 2: of his dropbacks this season, with eighty point nine percent
- 27:37Speaker 2: of his dropbacks ending inside the tackle box, the second
- 27:40Speaker 2: highest rate of his career. And then they also gave
- 27:43Speaker 2: some statistics about throwing inside the tackle box versus throwing
- 27:46Speaker 2: outside the tackle box. When Hurtz throwed through inside the
- 27:50Speaker 2: tackle box, he had a sixty eight point seven percent
- 27:53Speaker 2: completion percentage, twenty two touchdowns, four interceptions. When he threw
- 27:56Speaker 2: outside the tackle box, he had forty six point seven
- 27:59Speaker 2: percent p leiction a percentage, three touchdowns and two interceptions.
- 28:02Speaker 1: I think that part of it is pretty You know,
- 28:04Speaker 1: when you're inside the tackle box and you're well protected,
- 28:07Speaker 1: you're going to complete a higher percentage your passes, throw
- 28:09Speaker 1: more touchdowns when you're running outside the tackle box. I
- 28:12Speaker 1: think everybody gets the vision when you think of Jalen
- 28:14Speaker 1: Hurts outside the tackle box, you think of him rolling
- 28:16Speaker 1: to the sidelines and then throwing it out of bounds.
- 28:18Speaker 1: That's that was like a staple of their offense.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Unfortunately, this year they call uh, you know, spread right,
- 28:26Speaker 2: roll right, throw out of bounds right.
- 28:29Speaker 1: And unfortunately he also took some sacks this year because
- 28:33Speaker 1: I think he thought he was ahead of the line
- 28:36Speaker 1: of scrimmage when he ran out of bounds, but he
- 28:37Speaker 1: was behind it. And that was kind of annoying because
- 28:39Speaker 1: all he had to do was just throw it out
- 28:41Speaker 1: of bounds, but he didn't.
- 28:42Speaker 2: Sure a little bit of awareness issues there.
- 28:45Speaker 1: But so my question, and you may not know, because
- 28:48Speaker 1: you know this is an NFL pro stat So when
- 28:51Speaker 1: it says he scrambled on a career low nineteen point
- 28:54Speaker 1: eight percent of his dropbacks, do they separate scrambling from
- 28:59Speaker 1: designed runs on a top back? Okay, yes, so that's
- 29:02Speaker 1: really interesting. These are scrambles. So Jalen Hurts has been
- 29:06Speaker 1: asked a lot this year Sam about why he has
- 29:10Speaker 1: run less, and he constantly talks about I don't think
- 29:14Speaker 1: he's trying to throw him an the bus, but he says,
- 29:15Speaker 1: you know, the coaching, the play calling. You know, he's
- 29:18Speaker 1: mentioned Kevin Bittulo in that. But Kevin Bittulo can call
- 29:22Speaker 1: design runs, but he can't call scrambles. He can't say, hey, look,
- 29:25Speaker 1: I want you to not hit your first two progressions
- 29:27Speaker 1: and then run right. That's that's not how it works.
- 29:30Speaker 1: So this is a Jalen Hurts stat This is a
- 29:34Speaker 1: this You only put it on Jalen Hurts And I
- 29:37Speaker 1: don't know. I'm not saying that's a good I'm not
- 29:38Speaker 1: putting a positive or a negative on it at all.
- 29:41Speaker 1: I'm just saying he has consciously, for whatever reason, not
- 29:46Speaker 1: scrambled as much as he used to. And if you
- 29:49Speaker 1: were to ask him about this and take the play
- 29:52Speaker 1: calling out of it, the design run out. I would
- 29:55Speaker 1: love to hear him answer that, because he always seems
- 29:59Speaker 1: to a so the question under the umbrella of designed
- 30:03Speaker 1: run not scramble.
- 30:04Speaker 2: Sure, And this honestly is reflected an EPA per drop
- 30:07Speaker 2: back too. By the way, it's probably part of the
- 30:09Speaker 2: reason it's so low hm, because scrambles are reflected in
- 30:13Speaker 2: EPA per drop back, but designed quarterback runs are not.
- 30:16Speaker 1: Oh wow, that's interesting. Okay, good, I'm glad that those
- 30:19Speaker 1: are separated.
- 30:20Speaker 2: Because a drop back is a passing statistic correct, And
- 30:24Speaker 2: so honestly, the way we charted it when I was
- 30:27Speaker 2: at Penn State is we put it as a P
- 30:30Speaker 2: for pass and then Q for quarterback scramble. Uh. We
- 30:34Speaker 2: would this is kind of getting off topic, but we
- 30:37Speaker 2: would put p I for an incomplete pass, PC for
- 30:41Speaker 2: a completed pass, and PQ for scramble. That's how we
- 30:43Speaker 2: charted those kind of plays. So I have pretty much
- 30:47Speaker 2: anything you find will have a similar style, like a
- 30:51Speaker 2: scramble counts as a drop back in a pass.
- 30:55Speaker 1: And this was during the Trace mcsorly era.
- 30:57Speaker 2: This was it was trace, but it was more sean oh.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Sean, okay, well, either, I mean kind of similar in
- 31:03Speaker 1: that you didn't know what you were getting whenever.
- 31:04Speaker 2: They dropped back and Will Levis too, Okay, well that's
- 31:09Speaker 2: a little bit.
- 31:09Speaker 1: Well he could run. I mean he was a run athlete,
- 31:11Speaker 1: but he was more of a pocket guy. Yeah. All right,
- 31:15Speaker 1: So let's get into some of your notable individual stats.
- 31:20Speaker 2: Well, I think the obvious one is two thousand yard receivers.
- 31:23Speaker 2: We talked about that last week. Yep, but you know
- 31:27Speaker 2: it actually happened for DeVonta Smith. Now what did he play?
- 31:31Speaker 2: Like nine snaps and to make it happen or something
- 31:33Speaker 2: like that.
- 31:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I guess health didn't matter for that. Uh, Resting
- 31:37Speaker 1: sures didn't matter when there was a thousand yards on
- 31:39Speaker 1: the line. Yeah.
- 31:39Speaker 2: Actually, I kind of want your take on that. Do
- 31:42Speaker 2: you think they should have rested?
- 31:45Speaker 1: I think you you clearly have not been listening to the
- 31:47Speaker 1: Inside the Birds postgame show or anything else. Sam. I
- 31:50Speaker 1: would have been sorry, you've been busy. So I I
- 31:53Speaker 1: really tried to, like a good journalist, objectively look at
- 31:56Speaker 1: it from both sides. I I felt still that a
- 32:03Speaker 1: second home game in the playoffs is enormous, So I
- 32:07Speaker 1: would have personally, if you're just asking me if you're
- 32:11Speaker 1: taking context out of it, right, what would you do
- 32:14Speaker 1: in this situation? Okay, I would say I would go
- 32:17Speaker 1: for the two seeds or at least for a half,
- 32:19Speaker 1: and then you know, if it's a blowout, like the
- 32:21Speaker 1: Texans did. They just pulled their starters when they realized
- 32:23Speaker 1: Jacksonville was blowing out. I think it was the Colts
- 32:26Speaker 1: or whoever they played. No, no, they were playing the Titans,
- 32:28Speaker 1: I think. But I think Nick Sirianni is a smart guy.
- 32:33Speaker 1: I think he's a good coach. He has some flaws,
- 32:35Speaker 1: but he's a really good coach. And what he did
- 32:39Speaker 1: is a signal to me of him saying, you guys
- 32:43Speaker 1: know my team's beat up, but you really don't know
- 32:46Speaker 1: how beat up my team is. You don't know about
- 32:49Speaker 1: my left you know about my left guard, you know
- 32:51Speaker 1: about my center, you know about my right tackle, you
- 32:54Speaker 1: know about my defensive tackle. Right. You know, because they've
- 32:57Speaker 1: been injured or coming out of games, but you really
- 32:59Speaker 1: don't know what it's like to get them prepared to
- 33:01Speaker 1: play every single week. So I don't think Nick Sirianni
- 33:05Speaker 1: did it just because, you know, like because I like
- 33:08Speaker 1: rest a little bit more. I think in other scenarios,
- 33:12Speaker 1: if he had a healthier team, right, he may have
- 33:14Speaker 1: gone for it could be wrong, but I think his
- 33:17Speaker 1: actions reveal just how much he felt that resting those
- 33:23Speaker 1: guys that I mentioned especially would help them for a
- 33:26Speaker 1: playoff game. And he's probably got a pretty good as
- 33:30Speaker 1: he should because his road record not in the playoffs,
- 33:33Speaker 1: but his road record in a way bigger sample size
- 33:35Speaker 1: of regular season is phenomenal. That he felt like he
- 33:38Speaker 1: can go win a road game with a healthier team.
- 33:41Speaker 1: So I get it. I wouldn't have done it. I
- 33:44Speaker 1: get it, But I will say, if I was gonna
- 33:46Speaker 1: do that, then I'm not going to play DeVante Smith
- 33:48Speaker 1: just to get him.
- 33:51Speaker 2: And then does it reveal context for last year when
- 33:54Speaker 2: Saquon could have broken the record? Like interesting, I made
- 33:59Speaker 2: that point critical, I don't know.
- 34:01Speaker 1: Well, the counterpoint that's been made to me, because everybody
- 34:05Speaker 1: has to make everything apples to apples even when they're not,
- 34:07Speaker 1: is that, well, if you played Saquon last year, then
- 34:10Speaker 1: you have to play your offensive line. And I'm like, okay,
- 34:13Speaker 1: I get that. I understand. The bottom line is health, right,
- 34:16Speaker 1: just health. You want healthy teams, So why would you
- 34:19Speaker 1: even jeopardize a wide receiver who by the way on
- 34:22Speaker 1: that last catch, got sandwich between two defenders while he
- 34:25Speaker 1: was reaching up high. I know he didn't get hurt.
- 34:28Speaker 1: He could have. You exposed him to it. And AJ
- 34:30Speaker 1: Brown got hurt at the end of the twenty twenty
- 34:32Speaker 1: three playoffs. Now they had to play right because they
- 34:36Speaker 1: were actually battling it out for the division with the
- 34:37Speaker 1: Cowboys of the game to the Giants, and then I
- 34:40Speaker 1: think you do think they started to pull guys as they
- 34:42Speaker 1: were losing. But AJ Brown got hurt, and so it
- 34:45Speaker 1: just shows you it could have happened.
- 34:46Speaker 2: And cal Kata got hurt on a hip drop tackle
- 34:50Speaker 2: and that was Goddart. That would really hurt the offense.
- 34:53Speaker 2: So I would understand.
- 34:54Speaker 1: Three guys, now, you're you tooth got hurt? Right, Well,
- 34:57Speaker 1: what if that was what if that was your center?
- 34:59Speaker 1: What if it was camp Jurgan's right. So by the way,
- 35:03Speaker 1: Brandon Johnson got heard, he's on ir now and that
- 35:05Speaker 1: was your safety? What if it was Apps? Yeah, So
- 35:08Speaker 1: again I understand for those reasons, I understand why he
- 35:11Speaker 1: rested his starters, but then I don't understand why he
- 35:15Speaker 1: I also understand why he played Jylex Hunt and Jordan
- 35:17Speaker 1: Davis for as long as he did it, it sort
- 35:20Speaker 1: of felt like a half tank half not tank, and
- 35:22Speaker 1: that Yeah, I don't like mixed messaging. I'm hey, listen,
- 35:25Speaker 1: I may not agree with your coaching decision, but if
- 35:27Speaker 1: you are one hundred convicted in it, okay, then I'm
- 35:30Speaker 1: going to get As a journalist, I'd give you the
- 35:32Speaker 1: benefit of the doubt as long as I think you
- 35:34Speaker 1: did it with conviction and with good sense. Like I said,
- 35:36Speaker 1: I understand why he rested the guys he rested, but
- 35:39Speaker 1: don't then don't halfway.
- 35:41Speaker 2: I just thought that was I agree with you completely.
- 35:43Speaker 2: I think that's that's I think the frustration for me
- 35:46Speaker 2: lies in that. All right, good stuffs, but let's go
- 35:50Speaker 2: into the statistics. You know, A J. Brown nineteenth and
- 35:53Speaker 2: receiving yards DeVonta Smith's seventeenth. There's a five yard difference
- 35:56Speaker 2: between them. So it's interesting that there's you know, it's
- 36:00Speaker 2: the way DeVonta Smith was sixth in receiving EPA in
- 36:04Speaker 2: the NFL fifty two and a half. Goddard was second
- 36:07Speaker 2: in touchdowns for all past pass catchers. Do you know
- 36:10Speaker 2: who's number one in touchdowns in the NFL.
- 36:12Speaker 1: In for all pass catchers? Or just tight ends all
- 36:14Speaker 1: pass catchers. Number one in touchdowns yep, who led the
- 36:19Speaker 1: NFL in touchdown catches? What is it a name that
- 36:21Speaker 1: like was shocking?
- 36:22Speaker 2: No?
- 36:23Speaker 1: Oh okay, uh, it's not.
- 36:24Speaker 2: It wasn't Puka, right, it was not Puka.
- 36:26Speaker 1: But was it Tremick Ride?
- 36:28Speaker 2: Nope?
- 36:30Speaker 1: Was it? Was it Jackson Smith in Jigba? No, he
- 36:35Speaker 1: only had like seven?
- 36:36Speaker 2: I think think I think Rams, keep thinking Rams.
- 36:39Speaker 1: Was it Devanta Adams?
- 36:40Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 36:41Speaker 1: I know, he had a billion, like two and three
- 36:43Speaker 1: yard touchdowns.
- 36:44Speaker 2: I think he set a record for like you who
- 36:46Speaker 2: also had a billion two or three yard touchdowns? Dallas
- 36:48Speaker 2: got Alas got it?
- 36:50Speaker 1: Yes he did. By the way, this number is like
- 36:53Speaker 1: the one reflection of or the reflection of the one
- 36:56Speaker 1: thing of the Eagles offense that evolved since last year,
- 36:59Speaker 1: which was the low red zone offense. I thought they
- 37:01Speaker 1: did a really good job of creating schemed plays to
- 37:04Speaker 1: get Goddard open and then they just get there. Yeah yeah, right,
- 37:08Speaker 1: that's the problem. They just don't get to the red
- 37:10Speaker 1: zone enough. But when they did, they really used Goddard
- 37:13Speaker 1: creatively as they should.
- 37:15Speaker 2: Saquon Barkley was first in average separation in the NFL.
- 37:18Speaker 2: When targeted. I don't know what that like. That doesn't
- 37:23Speaker 2: mean much to me, but it was.
- 37:24Speaker 1: It was.
- 37:25Speaker 2: I was looking through the stats and I saw that.
- 37:27Speaker 1: I was like, Okay, that's really funny. Well, because he
- 37:30Speaker 1: always would like get behind guys and they wouldn't notice,
- 37:32Speaker 1: and then hurts would either hit him or just misfire. Yep,
- 37:36Speaker 1: that's funny. Now.
- 37:37Speaker 2: The notable rushing hurts was six and rushing yards for
- 37:41Speaker 2: QBS or twenty one fourth and rushing touchdowns for QBS
- 37:46Speaker 2: at eight. I think Trevor Lawrence was ahead of him,
- 37:49Speaker 2: which I was a little bit like.
- 37:50Speaker 1: Huh, dude, Trevor had an amazing second half. I gotta
- 37:53Speaker 1: gi him a lot of credit.
- 37:55Speaker 2: But I mean when he I'm not saying Lawrence doesn't
- 37:58Speaker 2: have wheels, but I mean compare arratively, it hurts. It's yeah,
- 38:02Speaker 2: lit surprised. Saquon Barkley for his down year is tenth
- 38:07Speaker 2: in the NFL, by the way, at eleven hundred yards,
- 38:11Speaker 2: eighteenth and touchdowns with seven eighth and ten plus yard rushes,
- 38:15Speaker 2: twenty eight and third and twenty plus mile an hour runs.
- 38:19Speaker 1: So he can still get to that second level if
- 38:21Speaker 1: you just give him the lane he'll kick it into
- 38:23Speaker 1: that gear. Yeah. By the way, tenth in rushing yards,
- 38:27Speaker 1: fifth in rushing attempts per game. That's kind of interesting.
- 38:32Speaker 1: They did not, so so you can sort of make
- 38:34Speaker 1: the argument that Eagles were kind of running, running into
- 38:37Speaker 1: that brick wall. They were hell bent on running.
- 38:40Speaker 2: They were, and it was not very effective.
- 38:43Speaker 1: It was not.
- 38:44Speaker 2: But I'm just saying, like, for a down year for
- 38:46Speaker 2: Saquon and he's still top ten, like I he is ten.
- 38:50Speaker 2: I mean it's not.
- 38:52Speaker 1: It's not like six, but you know, right, yeah, Now
- 38:57Speaker 1: there is a real incriminating stat here on the offensive
- 39:00Speaker 1: line that is sort of obvious but also not obvious because.
- 39:04Speaker 2: Would it happened to be a guard on the Philadelphia
- 39:07Speaker 2: Eagles that you're referring.
- 39:08Speaker 1: To, Yes, it would happen to be Would it happened.
- 39:10Speaker 2: To be a guard that played particularly well in most
- 39:13Speaker 2: of his career and got hurt in the preseason, it would.
- 39:17Speaker 1: It would be five sacks for a guard, right, Because
- 39:21Speaker 1: we always talk about interior linemen and their pressure rates
- 39:24Speaker 1: and stuff, they usually have help. Now, now, maybe Jurgen's
- 39:27Speaker 1: probably helped Steen out more when when it's a four
- 39:30Speaker 1: man rush than Dickerson. But still five sacks and seven
- 39:35Speaker 1: quarterback hits is just a lot.
- 39:37Speaker 2: I mean, he hasn't been healthy. I honestly don't think
- 39:41Speaker 2: I think he should have been talking about health. I
- 39:43Speaker 2: think he should have been rested way earlier for a
- 39:45Speaker 2: couple of weeks.
- 39:47Speaker 1: And it's hard to win. So this is a This
- 39:51Speaker 1: is the point Adam and I were making on post
- 39:53Speaker 1: game when we were really talking about depth. Okay, this
- 39:55Speaker 1: has been the thinnest offensive line for the Eagles in years. Right,
- 40:00Speaker 1: Rod Johnson's thumbwell at tackle, but you know, prior not
- 40:03Speaker 1: so great Tooth had one good game where they sort
- 40:06Speaker 1: of used him in a certain way to get him
- 40:08Speaker 1: outside and the athleticism. But I don't know that you
- 40:11Speaker 1: could win if you had to play four or five
- 40:14Speaker 1: games with Toth at left guard while you also don't
- 40:18Speaker 1: have Lane Johnson at right tackle. I just don't know.
- 40:21Speaker 1: This isn't like twenty seventeen to me, when you could
- 40:24Speaker 1: pull Steph Wznowski out and you can pull a big
- 40:28Speaker 1: V out and make it to the Super Bowl. That's
- 40:31Speaker 1: a big thing for me. That in the off season
- 40:33Speaker 1: for this team.
- 40:34Speaker 2: But you do that early, you do that in the
- 40:36Speaker 2: first three weeks. You give him the three weeks to
- 40:38Speaker 2: heal and then he'll be all right.
- 40:40Speaker 1: Do you think that they felt that just because he's
- 40:43Speaker 1: coming off a surgery, that he's just going to naturally
- 40:46Speaker 1: get better and strong, like he doesn't have an injury,
- 40:49Speaker 1: he's just coming off one. He's also he's also bigger.
- 40:53Speaker 1: I think I think he's got to trim down in
- 40:55Speaker 1: the off season, and that might have been because of
- 40:57Speaker 1: the knee surgery. You can't do as much. Cardio can't
- 41:00Speaker 1: stay in shape. And I do kind of get the
- 41:03Speaker 1: point of like, even if our starter is seventy percent
- 41:07Speaker 1: of what he is, he's still better than our backup.
- 41:09Speaker 1: I mean, I think a lot of coaches think that way.
- 41:11Speaker 2: I understand the sentiment. But if you have an opportunity
- 41:15Speaker 2: to get him to ninety percent by resting him two games,
- 41:19Speaker 2: I think you do it. I think that was the
- 41:22Speaker 2: obvious thing to do early. Now, hindsight is always twenty twenty. Yeah,
- 41:27Speaker 2: so I get it, But I don't know. That's that's
- 41:30Speaker 2: just my thought. I'm surprised Jurgen's stats are as good
- 41:34Speaker 2: as they are based on the film that I've agreed.
- 41:38Speaker 2: I know his run blocking hasn't been great, but.
- 41:41Speaker 1: I was just about to say I didn't. I don't
- 41:43Speaker 1: is there a run blocking metric or analytic because I
- 41:47Speaker 1: would also.
- 41:47Speaker 2: Wish there was TFF grades, but we both know how
- 41:51Speaker 2: we feel about those.
- 41:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:52Speaker 2: Yeah, So yeah, there's no real good run blocking statistic
- 41:56Speaker 2: that I've been able to find.
- 41:57Speaker 1: Yet, because it would really be interesting to also see
- 42:00Speaker 1: the tight ends in this, because I don't think Goddard
- 42:03Speaker 1: has been the blocker that he's been in the past,
- 42:06Speaker 1: and certainly we know Greg Helkatra is not a good blocker,
- 42:09Speaker 1: and they just don't use cam lots that much. So
- 42:13Speaker 1: way we go, all right, we wrapped it up the
- 42:15Speaker 1: Eagles offense. Let's get into some some positive stuff. The
- 42:18Speaker 1: Eagles defense sam a lot of a.
- 42:21Speaker 2: Lot of top ten statistics here, a lot of top
- 42:24Speaker 2: five statistics here. They're fifth in EPA per play at
- 42:27Speaker 2: minus zero point one four, which is so interesting. Like
- 42:30Speaker 2: we were talking about how there's just better defenses this year,
- 42:33Speaker 2: but it's just such a staggering difference. You know, they
- 42:35Speaker 2: were minus what zero point zero one or zero point
- 42:38Speaker 2: zero three? Uh the offense. They were minus zero point
- 42:42Speaker 2: zero three on the offense, and that was that was
- 42:47Speaker 2: ranked as the thirteenth best offense and in defense to
- 42:51Speaker 2: be the fifth best defense. They're minus zero point one.
- 42:54Speaker 1: Four crazy crazy, And I would I bet if we
- 42:59Speaker 1: had did like a halfway mark one compared to now,
- 43:01Speaker 1: the numbers would obviously be not as good for the Eagles.
- 43:05Speaker 1: They really came. It seemed like the two things that
- 43:08Speaker 1: came together at the right time with the trade for
- 43:10Speaker 1: Jalen Phillips. Well, I'll say the three things Jaalen Phillips
- 43:13Speaker 1: trade at the same time. I think the next game,
- 43:16Speaker 1: or maybe that game, Nolan Smith came back from i
- 43:19Speaker 1: R and Nikobe Dean coming back, so he's playing at
- 43:23Speaker 1: the level that he played at was just unbelievable.
- 43:26Speaker 2: Oh and getting Brandon Graham to come out of retirement
- 43:28Speaker 2: and then somehow every time he touches the field it
- 43:30Speaker 2: turns to gold.
- 43:31Speaker 1: That is true the Brandon Graham odometer that we do meter.
- 43:37Speaker 2: But yeah, no, And honestly, the strength of his team
- 43:40Speaker 2: is their past defense. It is one evident there. You know,
- 43:45Speaker 2: they're second in past defense in e PA and then
- 43:48Speaker 2: thirteenth in EPA per rush. So I mean their run
- 43:52Speaker 2: defense is good, not great, but their past defense is elite.
- 43:56Speaker 2: It is elite Yeah, it's it's incredible.
- 43:59Speaker 1: So the blitz percentage says it, all right.
- 44:02Speaker 2: Yeah eight, they're thirty second, they're the least likely team
- 44:06Speaker 2: to blitz, and yet their sack percentages fifteenth and their
- 44:09Speaker 2: pressure percentages thirteenth.
- 44:11Speaker 1: Yeah, that's pretty good. That's that's got the Vic Fangio
- 44:14Speaker 1: signature written all over it because it's funny. Again, just
- 44:17Speaker 1: to show you the difference. I remember writing a story
- 44:19Speaker 1: for Philly Voice around October, like maybe week five, week six,
- 44:23Speaker 1: and Vic blitz percentage was in the upper twenties. It
- 44:26Speaker 1: was high. It was for him it was higher, and
- 44:30Speaker 1: he was the upper twenty I think it was at
- 44:33Speaker 1: like fourteenth highest in the NFL at one point, and
- 44:36Speaker 1: at the end of the year he's back down to
- 44:38Speaker 1: the lowest.
- 44:39Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a Vic Fangio seal of approval for sure.
- 44:44Speaker 1: So the Eagles led the NFL in average separation on defense,
- 44:48Speaker 1: meaning when a receiver was targeted or a pass casher
- 44:52Speaker 1: was targeted, that on average, they had the least amount
- 44:56Speaker 1: of separation in the.
- 44:57Speaker 2: NFL correct blanketed.
- 44:59Speaker 1: That's amazing. That's really awesome for for a long time
- 45:04Speaker 1: Eagles fans who have grown accustomed to Eagles always having
- 45:07Speaker 1: good pass rushing stats but not great secondary stats. This
- 45:10Speaker 1: is just unbelievable, right, I mean, it's been just it's
- 45:14Speaker 1: just so long that the Eagles have had let alone
- 45:17Speaker 1: one but two really good defensive backs, you know, a
- 45:20Speaker 1: pro type.
- 45:21Speaker 2: It's very unusual.
- 45:24Speaker 1: So that's cool.
- 45:25Speaker 2: We're not gonna complain.
- 45:27Speaker 1: Now, what do you make of the run defense statistics
- 45:31Speaker 1: being really so? Again, this is you always rank things
- 45:34Speaker 1: on best to worst. So they are the twenty ninth
- 45:38Speaker 1: best run stuffing team, which means they're the third worst
- 45:41Speaker 1: run stuffing team in the league.
- 45:42Speaker 2: Well, I think it's you can just look down one
- 45:45Speaker 2: column and you'll see why they run the least amount
- 45:48Speaker 2: of stacked boxes and the most amount of light boxes, right.
- 45:52Speaker 2: And I think when you do that, you're committing to
- 45:54Speaker 2: the pass more often than not, and you're gonna they're
- 45:57Speaker 2: gonna let up some yards in the run defense. And
- 45:59Speaker 2: I think they're okay with that, right. I think that
- 46:03Speaker 2: it's it goes to we want you to throw on us.
- 46:06Speaker 2: That's that's the mentality because you can't.
- 46:10Speaker 1: Right. We're very confident they can stop the run out
- 46:12Speaker 1: of Nickel.
- 46:13Speaker 2: But that's why this team, if their offense got together,
- 46:16Speaker 2: they would be unstoppable.
- 46:18Speaker 1: God.
- 46:18Speaker 2: Yeah, they They are really good at playing with the lead.
- 46:22Speaker 2: They're really good at playing with the lead. They're not
- 46:24Speaker 2: great when the team has the lead on them.
- 46:28Speaker 1: Right, And that's what I think, by the way, makes
- 46:30Speaker 1: this matchup against the Niners. It just adds an extra
- 46:33Speaker 1: layer of interesting subplot because we all know that the
- 46:37Speaker 1: Niners are historically awful when a they they trail, and
- 46:42Speaker 1: b if they're down by like a touchdown or more
- 46:44Speaker 1: going into the fourth quarter, it's like an automatic loss.
- 46:46Speaker 1: Kyle Stanahan's teams are built to play with the lead.
- 46:50Speaker 1: So if the Eagles can score early, get ahead early,
- 46:53Speaker 1: they it's such a huge advantage for them. But also
- 46:57Speaker 1: to your point here, Sam, the forty nine will put
- 47:01Speaker 1: a fullback on the field. They'll put your running backs
- 47:03Speaker 1: or put your tight ends. They will try to dictate
- 47:06Speaker 1: Vic playing base defense and stack box, but he doesn't
- 47:10Speaker 1: do it. So I'm very curious to see if Vic says,
- 47:12Speaker 1: I don't care what personnel you're throwing out there, we're
- 47:15Speaker 1: going to stay in nickel. That'll be very interesting.
- 47:17Speaker 2: The offense needs to do Fangio a favor and get
- 47:20Speaker 2: points on the board because it'll open up the defensive
- 47:23Speaker 2: playbook for Fangio and it'll be able to actually do
- 47:25Speaker 2: things he wants to do, and he's comfortable with that,
- 47:28Speaker 2: the personnel is comfortable with I'm not saying they can't
- 47:30Speaker 2: do it, because they can and they will, and they
- 47:34Speaker 2: have and they should. But it is to the same
- 47:37Speaker 2: degree the Eagles offense has to pull their weight. They
- 47:40Speaker 2: have to, they have to one hundred.
- 47:43Speaker 1: I agree with you. Great stuff, all right, some notable
- 47:46Speaker 1: defensive stats.
- 47:48Speaker 2: You're probably looking at this and saying why some of
- 47:50Speaker 2: the text blue or purple ish.
- 47:52Speaker 1: I was a little curious, is a clickable or something?
- 47:54Speaker 2: But no, it's not. So I really wanted to differentiate
- 47:58Speaker 2: where when I was getting stats from different websites. I
- 48:02Speaker 2: defer to PFF a lot of the time in sacks,
- 48:06Speaker 2: and we've talked about this before. The NFL pro statistics
- 48:11Speaker 2: are better in almost every way in my opinion. I
- 48:14Speaker 2: love them. The things that they don't get right are
- 48:17Speaker 2: they do nearest defender for passing stats, which I don't
- 48:21Speaker 2: think is very reflective because it doesn't take an account
- 48:24Speaker 2: your actual responsibilities, right, And I'm not saying PFF does
- 48:27Speaker 2: a significantly better job at that, but it does do
- 48:29Speaker 2: a better job in my mind. And then also sacks
- 48:34Speaker 2: PFF doesn't believe in half sacks, and I kind of
- 48:37Speaker 2: agree with that, not kind of, I do agree with that.
- 48:39Speaker 2: I don't think half sacks should be a thing I
- 48:42Speaker 2: think which does artificially inflate the AC count. So like,
- 48:48Speaker 2: for instance, Jalo's hi, I think it's at six and
- 48:49Speaker 2: a half sacks on NFL pro But to me, like,
- 48:53Speaker 2: I just don't. I think that's an antiquated way to
- 48:58Speaker 2: look at sacks. I think if you cause the sack,
- 49:02Speaker 2: you should be credited for the sack, even if it's
- 49:04Speaker 2: just partially. And we've talked about this before, and I'm
- 49:08Speaker 2: sure people some people agree, most people probably disagree. That's fine,
- 49:12Speaker 2: but I at least wanted to be consistent and objective
- 49:15Speaker 2: and you know, at least describe when I'm using different statistics.
- 49:20Speaker 2: So that's why in this instance there's some blue purple
- 49:23Speaker 2: text and some black text.
- 49:24Speaker 1: All right, Hey, I like it. I like you. You're
- 49:26Speaker 1: just introducing it. What you hope to be is a
- 49:29Speaker 1: less I guess it's not the word biased, but or
- 49:33Speaker 1: at least a more clear way of looking at something.
- 49:37Speaker 1: I like that.
- 49:37Speaker 2: H and so it's really more for the viewer and
- 49:41Speaker 2: the listener than anyone else. I just journalistic integrity, you
- 49:47Speaker 2: know that, stuff like that. But Jelex Hunt led the
- 49:52Speaker 2: team in sacks seven, He led the team in quick
- 49:55Speaker 2: quarterback pressures fourteen, third on team, and stops at thirty four,
- 50:00Speaker 2: and lead team in interceptions at three. So your edge
- 50:03Speaker 2: is leading your team in interceptions is very It's an
- 50:06Speaker 2: interesting statistic. If I told you this at the beginning
- 50:08Speaker 2: of the season, I don't think you'd believe me.
- 50:11Speaker 1: In the olden days, there'd be like a kangaroo court,
- 50:14Speaker 1: right and Quinnon Mitchell and Cooper de Jean and Adorri Jackson.
- 50:18Speaker 1: They would have to like put money in a jar
- 50:20Speaker 1: for losing out. Uh, the interception lead to a defense
- 50:24Speaker 1: to an edge player, you know what I'm saying, Like
- 50:26Speaker 1: that's the old days. But it does speak to how
- 50:28Speaker 1: how good j Alex Hunt has been this year. He's
- 50:31Speaker 1: he's been a year ahead of schedule since he got
- 50:33Speaker 1: to the team, since he was a rotational player on
- 50:36Speaker 1: a Super Bowl team last year who was productive.
- 50:39Speaker 2: Definitely.
- 50:41Speaker 1: I mean when they drafted him, we thought maybe this year.
- 50:43Speaker 1: By the end of this year, he would just start
- 50:46Speaker 1: playing and see and now he's an establ but he's
- 50:48Speaker 1: a starter and then good with this guy.
- 50:49Speaker 2: He was a raw project, right, that was the whole Right,
- 50:53Speaker 2: that's why he fell. Yep, but no, you know the
- 50:56Speaker 2: former safety is he's doing all right? Yeah, we got
- 51:00Speaker 2: those ball skills.
- 51:01Speaker 1: Yep.
- 51:02Speaker 2: You know, Carter we could talk about for a while,
- 51:07Speaker 2: but we'll just talk about some of the statistics. Uh,
- 51:10Speaker 2: he's tied third in the NFL and batted passes and
- 51:13Speaker 2: so is Jordan Davis by the way, they both are
- 51:15Speaker 2: tied third, and that's amazing at six. Yeah, Carter is
- 51:20Speaker 2: tied sixteenth in the NFL and turnover is caused by
- 51:23Speaker 2: pressure at two.
- 51:25Speaker 1: Okay, so his pressure led to an interception or fumble.
- 51:29Speaker 1: All right.
- 51:29Speaker 2: You know what's interesting is I believe there's another person
- 51:33Speaker 2: on the team that is also has that statistic. Yes,
- 51:36Speaker 2: Jalen Phillips also is tied sixteenth in the NFL and
- 51:39Speaker 2: turnovers caused by pressure.
- 51:41Speaker 1: Now are those combined with his mind or just as.
- 51:43Speaker 2: An Eagle coined with what would be very much more impressive.
- 51:49Speaker 2: I'd say, uh, if it was just the Eagles, And
- 51:52Speaker 2: then Carter is also second on team in quick quarterback
- 51:55Speaker 2: pressures at thirteen. Anything you want to say about Carter
- 51:59Speaker 2: whiould we go to more?
- 52:00Speaker 1: Well, I think that the fact that he was tied
- 52:02Speaker 1: for third and batted passes, which you know, well, I
- 52:06Speaker 1: won't go into the obvious, but he had two bumped shoulders.
- 52:09Speaker 1: I mean, you got you gotta get your hands up,
- 52:11Speaker 1: arms up to bat these passes down, and he was
- 52:13Speaker 1: dealing with shoulders which he said at one time it
- 52:16Speaker 1: was difficult to even do a push up. So pretty impressive.
- 52:19Speaker 2: There, very much So all right, Moro Jomo second on
- 52:24Speaker 2: team in sacks, especially at interior defensive line. That's impressive.
- 52:29Speaker 1: Yeah, he's had a nice year. I don't think he's
- 52:31Speaker 1: the run defense or the as complete of a player
- 52:34Speaker 1: as Milton Williams, but you know he's also a sixth
- 52:37Speaker 1: round pick, right, I mean he's he's more than adequately
- 52:41Speaker 1: filled that role that Milton Williams lost.
- 52:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I totally agree. Couldn't set it better myself. But
- 52:49Speaker 2: you know who has really stepped up this year more
- 52:52Speaker 2: than they were given credit at the beginning. Jordan Davis. Yeah, again,
- 52:56Speaker 2: tied third in the NFL and battered passes at six
- 52:59Speaker 2: and then second on team and stops fifty eight and
- 53:02Speaker 2: twenty seventh in the NFL.
- 53:03Speaker 1: Right, so stops is like your total of what tackles sacks,
- 53:07Speaker 1: like any play that.
- 53:08Speaker 2: Is negative EPA and he epa.
- 53:12Speaker 1: Right, tackles for lost, things like that, good stuff.
- 53:16Speaker 2: Nolan third on team and win percentage. I really had
- 53:19Speaker 2: to struggle to find statistics for Nolan Smith.
- 53:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I think he had a tough you know, he's
- 53:25Speaker 1: came back from the triceps injury from the Super Bowl,
- 53:28Speaker 1: then he reaggravated it, missed a lot of time. He's
- 53:32Speaker 1: come back, he's been in a rotation. I think he's
- 53:34Speaker 1: played okay, he's done well, but he's not done anything,
- 53:39Speaker 1: you know, nothing like last year. The images you have
- 53:43Speaker 1: for him basically putting out two Pro Bowl guards on polls, right,
- 53:48Speaker 1: the Elk thing Jenkins and Tray Smith in the Super Bowl.
- 53:52Speaker 1: He was really learning how to play not just with
- 53:54Speaker 1: speed but power. I feel like maybe the injuries kind
- 53:57Speaker 1: of just not honestly stunted him. Just so you know,
- 54:01Speaker 1: it's been tough to It's been tough to grow and
- 54:03Speaker 1: develop and keep your strength up when you've been injured.
- 54:05Speaker 2: Yeah, one hundred percent, So I agree.
- 54:07Speaker 1: With that and then Dalen Phillips.
- 54:11Speaker 2: Ninth in NFL in pressures. That's seventy three eighth in
- 54:15Speaker 2: NFL win percentage among qualified rushers eighteen point eight percent,
- 54:20Speaker 2: tied sixteenth in the NFL. And turnover is caused by pressure,
- 54:23Speaker 2: which you've already talked about at two.
- 54:24Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean it's just a professional pass rusher.
- 54:27Speaker 1: He's just he's very good.
- 54:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 54:28Speaker 1: I do think Sam that ever since he's come aboard,
- 54:32Speaker 1: because he's also played inside and Nickel, I think the
- 54:35Speaker 1: Eagles are stunting a whole lot more with their foreman rush,
- 54:39Speaker 1: which has been great because they have really good athletes.
- 54:40Speaker 1: You want to do that when you have good long
- 54:42Speaker 1: armed athletes like him and a Joemo and Brandon Graham
- 54:45Speaker 1: has played inside. So I think it's been a little
- 54:47Speaker 1: bit of a again, a reason why Vick isn't blitzing
- 54:50Speaker 1: as much and why the foreman rush is not predictable.
- 54:52Speaker 1: It's it's it's still causing problems for the offensive lines.
- 54:56Speaker 2: Sure, one hundred percent.
- 55:00Speaker 1: You know Zach one as we want to linebacker secondary,
- 55:02Speaker 1: he's had a really nice year. Now it doesn't it
- 55:04Speaker 1: probably doesn't jump out as much because he's not a
- 55:07Speaker 1: secret anymore, but still pretty tarn good.
- 55:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, listen, he led the team in three statistics.
- 55:15Speaker 2: He led the team in tackles at one hundred and
- 55:17Speaker 2: twenty three, led the team and stopped sixty eight, which
- 55:20Speaker 2: is fourteenth in the NFL by the way, led the
- 55:23Speaker 2: team and coverage EPA which is minus thirty one point
- 55:26Speaker 2: three on fifty seven targets, and then he was seventh
- 55:30Speaker 2: in the NFL. And hustle plays. It's where you cover
- 55:34Speaker 2: twenty plus yards in a play.
- 55:37Speaker 1: So okay, So I think of the time he chased
- 55:40Speaker 1: down Who's the running back that he chased down? Was
- 55:43Speaker 1: it Gibbs or Montgomery? In the Lions Gay he chased
- 55:45Speaker 1: down somebody on a long run down. Oh, first it
- 55:48Speaker 1: was Miles Sanders right in there.
- 55:50Speaker 2: That was the first take in my mind.
- 55:52Speaker 1: But then there was another one. There was another game
- 55:54Speaker 1: where he chased somebody down, a really good running back
- 55:58Speaker 1: twenty thirty yards and stopped from scoring a touchdown, which
- 56:01Speaker 1: is just unbelievable. I mean that you just don't see
- 56:04Speaker 1: that from guys' size.
- 56:05Speaker 2: No, you really don't. It's it's pretty impressive. It's not
- 56:10Speaker 2: just pretty impressive, it's extremely impressive. I'm trying to find
- 56:14Speaker 2: the player you're talking about really quick.
- 56:15Speaker 1: But you know what, it may it may have been.
- 56:18Speaker 1: It wasn't in the Bears game. It was it.
- 56:21Speaker 2: It was Aaron Williams.
- 56:23Speaker 1: No, it was later in the season, I want to say.
- 56:26Speaker 2: Because it looks like there was a and that's that's
- 56:29Speaker 2: never mind. Later in the season you said.
- 56:32Speaker 1: Right, yeah, I just can't remember who it was, honestly,
- 56:36Speaker 1: don't Was it was it the that wasn't the Command
- 56:40Speaker 1: Was it the Chargers? Yes, wasn't it Adell remember that? Oh? Yes, Yeah,
- 56:45Speaker 1: it was like on that that little leak out to
- 56:47Speaker 1: the left side and he was running up the field.
- 56:49Speaker 1: I think it was Bond who made the tackle on it.
- 56:54Speaker 2: I actually was looking at the wrong category, but I
- 56:56Speaker 2: think you're right. I think you're right.
- 56:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it was the Chargers game where you
- 57:01Speaker 1: chased somebody down that has a lot theoretically has a
- 57:04Speaker 1: lot more speed than him.
- 57:05Speaker 2: This is only a six yard game when that hustle play.
- 57:08Speaker 2: But it might be that one.
- 57:11Speaker 1: There was someone.
- 57:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I definitely think that's the one you're
- 57:14Speaker 2: talking about.
- 57:15Speaker 1: But everybody remembers the Miles Sanders one too. That was
- 57:18Speaker 1: a touchdown saver in the opener, right that was yes, yeah, yeah.
- 57:23Speaker 1: Now Nikobe Dean getting on him four sacks on twenty
- 57:27Speaker 1: seven pass rushers. Are you kidding me? That's a great
- 57:30Speaker 1: rate right.
- 57:31Speaker 2: There, It's insane. Fourteen to eight percent sack rate, eleven
- 57:34Speaker 2: quarterback pressures, forty point seven percent pressure rate. I almost
- 57:38Speaker 2: highlighted and underlined Nacobe Dean like I did Quinion Mitchell.
- 57:43Speaker 2: I actually was going to do it for every category,
- 57:46Speaker 2: but then I didn't. I was gonna do Jalen Phillips
- 57:50Speaker 2: for the defensive line, but a lot of the statistics
- 57:52Speaker 2: were worth the Dolphins, so I was just like, I'm
- 57:54Speaker 2: just going to focus on the best player of the defense,
- 57:56Speaker 2: which is Quiniana Mitchell. But if I had to pick
- 57:58Speaker 2: a second, it's Nikobe Dean. As surprising as that sounds,
- 58:01Speaker 2: he also led the team and get off at zero
- 58:04Speaker 2: point seventy nine seconds. We already talked about his tied
- 58:08Speaker 2: sixteenth in NFL and turnovers caused by pressure. I didn't
- 58:12Speaker 2: say he was tied for it, but he is tied
- 58:13Speaker 2: for it as well. A lot of players are tied
- 58:15Speaker 2: for it because it's two. And then he had a
- 58:18Speaker 2: minus twelve point three percent completion rate over expectation on
- 58:22Speaker 2: twenty four targets.
- 58:23Speaker 1: Wow, minus twelve, that's amazing. So we did for the
- 58:27Speaker 1: Philly Voice, we did like staff awards picks and one
- 58:29Speaker 1: of the categories was the most Surprising Player. And I
- 58:31Speaker 1: put Nacobe in because I just never thought he would
- 58:34Speaker 1: come back from another lower body injury like that, a
- 58:38Speaker 1: major surgery, but teller tendon and be I didn't. I
- 58:41Speaker 1: thought maybe he'd be like a little less than what
- 58:43Speaker 1: he was, if not more, And he wound up being
- 58:45Speaker 1: better than what he was last year. That to me
- 58:48Speaker 1: was a shock, but great, great story for Nacobe.
- 58:51Speaker 2: And he's gonna get himself paid. Oh I don't. I
- 58:53Speaker 2: don't know if the Eagles are going to be able
- 58:54Speaker 2: to retain him, to be honest with you.
- 58:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean that's why they've got jo Hot Campbell
- 58:58Speaker 1: waiting in the wings. And he played well when he
- 58:59Speaker 1: was in there. Not the same but certainly good enough
- 59:02Speaker 1: when you put him next to Bond to really feel good.
- 59:05Speaker 1: Plus Trotter I think played well in the season finale.
- 59:07Speaker 1: I mean remember when I said about how long it's
- 59:09Speaker 1: been since an Eagle fan like of my maybe my
- 59:12Speaker 1: age could remember when the Eagles had awesome, like two
- 59:15Speaker 1: really great defensive backs. Well you can double that for
- 59:19Speaker 1: inside linebacker or off wall linebacker.
- 59:22Speaker 3: Sure, sure to not just have one, but like a
- 59:25Speaker 3: whole group that have played well is pretty amazing. Yeah,
- 59:31Speaker 3: all right, we'll finish it off here with the secondary.
- 59:35Speaker 2: I kind of want to take save quinyon last.
- 59:37Speaker 1: Okay, so let's go. Let's go to the safeties because
- 59:41Speaker 1: that's a pretty interesting stat.
- 59:43Speaker 2: I tried really hard to find a statistic that's a
- 59:46Speaker 2: good one that it was so hard to find anything
- 59:49Speaker 2: positive surprisingly about Reid. Specifically, Reid was just middle of
- 59:54Speaker 2: the pack on every statistic, which.
- 59:56Speaker 1: Was nothing negative. Right, They just haven't like stood out
- 59:58Speaker 1: as like this is excellent.
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: But they led the team in defensive touchdowns at three.
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: So I'm telling you, like, the corner's got to be
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: really upset. They didn't have any interceptions, right compared to
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: an edgra and then they didn't have any defensive Obviously,
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: if you have no new interceptions, you're not gonna have
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: any defensive touchdowns.
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: Yeah. It definitely makes it tougher for sure. Ye. So yeah,
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: I think that's a fun statistic. If I had to
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: find a good one. Dori Jackson's another one that I
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: honestly was surprising that his statistics have been so well, Like, basically,
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: you see why he ended up being the starter. Yeah,
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: I don't we don't have to get too much into it,
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: but that corner depth is atrocious.
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: Oh boy. The season finale showed that. I mean, I
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: think Adori has almost made an argument to come back
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: on a one year deal.
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: You know, I would resign him.
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: Yeah, now it's probably not gonna have. They didn't bring
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: back Isaiah Rodgers for eight millions, so I mean, but
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: I don't know if a Dori has played so great
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: that he's earned himself another, you know, really lucrative one
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: year deal somewhere else, So it may work out sign him.
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: You may draft a corner in the first or second
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: round and let him duke it out, or you may
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: eventually move Cooper there if you find a better nickel,
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: you know, if you keep Michael Carter or something. They
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: got some options there.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: Yeah, And I mean, Dori Jackson was second on team
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: and tight window percentage at thirty four point three percent.
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: He's making those receivers have to earn it, and you
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: can't ask for too much more for ye where he
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: is on the team.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: Had some big breakups. I think in the second half
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: of the Lions game, after he gave up a few,
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: he came back and made a few PBUs.
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: Yeah, he did very well for himself.
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: Yep.
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: And then let's talk about Cooper de Gene for a second. Yes,
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: he led the team in Hawk percentage, not Hawkeye percentage, right,
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: I mean it might be Hawkeye percentage.
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: I mean he is an Iowa guy.
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: So are you familiar with what the hawk percentage?
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: That was gonna be my next question.
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: Yeah, So it is any like play that results in
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: a turnover, a turnover worthy play, or a pass breakup,
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: or just like interfering with the pass completion. Okay, So
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: it's it's a pretty inclusive statistic, yes, very You don't
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: have to get the interception for it to count to this.
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: You just have to interfere with the pass in some way,
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: shape or form.
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: So that's what that measures. And that's twenty point eight percent.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: Pretty big. So that's like on you know, about a
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: fourth of or a fifth of his place. He's doing
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: something really targets. I assume that I have to have
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: to be targeted. Yes, he's either having a pick, a
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: breakup or interfering with the pass in a positive way,
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: not a flag. So that's a pretty high percentage. Yeah.
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: And then besides Bond, he was the second most hustle
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: player at ten he was second on team and tackles
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: at eighty five and the fourth on team and stops
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: thirty two. And then he led the team in pass breakups,
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: which you can see reflected in this Hawk percentage.
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: Yeah, this is again why I and most of this
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: comes from the Nickel spot, although I'm sure some of
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: it also comes from outside in base. But I just
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: wonder how Vic Fangio is gonna, you know, employ his
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: defense against the Niners team that is going to formationally
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: beg you to come out with your base defense, which
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: would put Degene on the outside. But he's just so
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: effective at Nickel that he may Vic may say, I
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: don't care, I'm gonna play Nickel against your twenty one
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: personnel or your twelve or thirteen personnel.
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's going to be a very interesting
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: matchup for that reason, for sure. I don't disagree. Now,
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: all right now, quinnyon last and certainly not least probably
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: in my mind, the most Impactful player on the Philadelphia
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: Eagles this season. I don't think that's hyperbolic to say.
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: Oh no, no, we did the awards column that I
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: was telling you about on Philly Voice. We had to
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: pick a team MVP, and that's you know, that's almost
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: always a quarterback award, right, It wasn't even an offensive
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: player for us. We all, I think all of us
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: picked Quinya Mitchell.
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: Yeah, it's do you remember when we saw him at
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: the Senior Bowl against Roman Wilson, those those reps because
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: he's he shut himself down after that day, yep. But
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: we just looked at each other and we're like that
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: he's going to be special, Like.
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I had I would not have predicted he would
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: have made it to the Eagles of twenty two after that.
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: Me neither. It was honestly, I mean, he locked up
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: Lad McConkey too, there was. It was a really great
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: showing and on it. Like we said, we didn't expect
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: him to be an Eagle. We knew he was going
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: to be great wherever he ended up, but it was
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: felt like kind of more like a pipe dream that
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: the Eagles would land him right, and let's see how
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: that translated. In the second year, he led the Eagles
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: secondary in reception percentage allowed forty three point nine percent.
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: With that being said, that second in the NFL, the
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: only one that was ahead of him was James Pierre,
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: who was targeted thirty three times. Now, let's look at
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: how many times let's talk am times Quiney and Mitchell
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: got targeted, which is eighty two eighty two times, just
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: thirty three.
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: That's crazy, Yeah, because James Pierre was a backup who
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: basically replaced Slagh in Pittsburgh when when they decided to
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: move on from Sleigh.
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: So almost fifty more targets and allowing only like forty
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: three percent forty four percent versus forty two percent.
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: Right, there's no way if Pierre was targeted eighty times
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: he would have that that could of a percentage. There's
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: no way.
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: Anybody in the entire NFL was targeted eighty two times
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: they would allow forty four percent. I don't think so,
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: I really don't think so.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: Nope. And zero passing touchdowns on eighty two targets unbelievable.
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: And it's the first thing that I thought, he's the most
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: targeted player to allow zero touchdowns and no one was close.
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: That's crazy. No, yeah, I can't even think of one right,
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: like where he almost like a guy dropped the pack.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: I mean he he shut everybody down.
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: Second on team in pass breakups seven uh. He led
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: team in average separation when targeted, which again means it's
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: the lowest statistic at one point eight, which was ninth
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: in the NFL. And then he led the team and
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: tight window percentage at forty one point two. Remember adri
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: Jackson was second at thirty four point three, Quinya Mitchell
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: was number one at forty one point two. That's a
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: huge difference.
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: MVP of the team, Sam, Yeah, I don't think it
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: for sure.
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: It's not close.

- 1:09:37Speaker 1: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: one and up. Yeah, I was gonna say, I don't
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: even think that there's a number two on that. I mean,
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: Quinna On Mitchell has been if you didn't have quin
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: if you did the whole war thing, like I does
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: football have a war?
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: They do, but it's not really widely accept the same
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: as baseball.
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: Right, But if you had a Dory jack In opposite
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: of Dori Jackson in the Eagles secondary instead of quinn
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: On Mitchell, not happening. Not good not good at all,
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: So just play well. But I'm saying, you know, Greg
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: Cosell points U out all the time when you see
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: like an offense come out with like trips to the
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: right or a bunch of you know, where there's more
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: receivers on one side of the field and the Eagles
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: are in too high. That second safety who's usually on
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: Quentin on side, he still rolls toward the trip side,
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: so they basically leave Mitchell alone like it's zero coverage
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: even when they're playing too high, and he just handles it.
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: So he just handles it.
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: But back to your point, why that statistic, why war
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: is important. So like what that actually means is wins
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: above replacement. In basketball, they have something vorp of value
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: over replacement player regardless. What it's saying is if you
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: took an average player at that position, how much better
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: does this player elevate over the placement player or Yeah,
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: that's really what it is. And if it wasn't football,
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: Quinnon Mitchell would be significantly valued over a replacement player.
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: And the replacement player in our example was adri Jackson,
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: because that is a replacement player for most sure, most circumstances.
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: So what he said what by making that point, what
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: you're saying is Quinyon Mitchell elevates so much more than
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: any other position over a replacement player.
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, if you were to get hurt, unfortunately, I
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: don't even want to think about that. But you know,
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: I don't like to discuss the potential of injury, but
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: it would be devastating for the Eagles, absolutely no doubt. Sam,
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: Great job man, awesome season. Rap. We will do it
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: again after this Eagles forty nine Ers game, and you know,
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: hopefully it won't be our last one of the year.
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: We'll see what happens. You have at a prediction, Oh okay,
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: never put you on the spot like this before.
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: You haven't. You know. I think it's going to be
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: a very gritty game. I think it's going to be close.
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: I don't see this game. I think the Eagles probably win.
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: I think that they're built better as a team. I
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: think they're a healthier team, and I think, you know,
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: there's an argument that maybe resting the players was a
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: good idea in that regard. The forty nine Ers have
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: dealt with injuries all year, and they've dealt they've persevered through,
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: you know, inconsistent roths, like they're the team that they
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: put out. Each week has been different and they persevered.
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: But I just I don't see them winning. But at
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: the same time, if the Eagles offense doesn't figure it out,
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: the Eagles will lose this game. So I think it
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: really depends on which offense shows up.
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: All right, So that's not about I didn't hear a
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: prediction there. I give me a score. Who's gonna win?
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: Philadelphia Eagles will win this game, all right?
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: I give it on this show because you know, I
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: save mine for the pregame show. But I won't say
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: this to your point exactly. I haven't looked lately at
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: what the over under total is, but my own I
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: feel like if this game, the Eagles will probably win
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: this game if the if the total score between the
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: two teams is under forty, like a twenty three to
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: thirteen type thing.
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: The over under is for forty four and a half.
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: Okay, if it's If it's the under, I think the
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: Eagles will clearly win if it gets over and they're
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: not stopping the forty nine ers from scoring. I think
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: that the the obviously the forty nine ers would win
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: in a higher scoring game.
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: Yeah, it's actually really interesting. The NFL pro gives me
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: a lot of these advanced stats on it. The Eagles
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: points per game twenty two point three, Niners twenty five
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: point seven point defferential plus fifty four for the Eagles
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: plus sixty six for the Niners as tenth and ninth, respectively.
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: Records in close games, the Eagles are much better eight
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: and four Niners or five and one, I guess, not
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: much better. Average margin of victory eight point eight Eagles
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: nine point nine nine Ers, turnover a differential plus six
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: as the Eagles we talked about, which is seventh in
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: the league, and minus six for the Niners.
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: And then the Eagles are in penalties, have way more penalties.
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: They have thirty four more penalties, So weird.
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: There's so many stats that make you think one way
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: and then the other way, right, like oh, turnovers, like that, man,
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: the penalties. Yeah, Eagles basically shoot themselves in the foot
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: as much as any team in the league.
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: So in so many ways, in so many ways. But yeah,
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: I think it'll be really interesting. The NFL pro gives
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: the matchup advantage to the Eagles in four of the
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: six categories. In passing, rushing, I guess it's just passing,
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: passing offense, rushing offense, passing defense, and then rushing rushing defense. No,
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: and then pressure rate on defense.
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: Well, Sam, it's gonna be a great game. I think.
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: I think it'll be a really fascinating game. Look forward
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: to it, and again look forward to us doing this
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: again week, no doubt. Damn Finkle, I'm Jeff Mosher. You've
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: been watching inside the data on inside the Birds
