- 0:13- Welcome to the divine five fifteen pod
- 0:16- podcast. Here is this week's devotional.
- 0:20- Hello, and welcome to daily prayers with Valerie
- 0:24- Rocha.
- 0:26- Today, we are going to continue the letting
- 0:29- go series by addressing
- 0:31- what to do when you can't control the
- 0:33- outcome.
- 0:35- Scripture text today comes from Proverbs three five
- 0:38- through six
- 0:39- and says, trust in the Lord with all
- 0:41- your heart and lean not on your own
- 0:43- understanding.
- 0:46- Well,
- 0:48- we like knowing how things are going to
- 0:50- turn out.
- 0:52- Right? If you're like most people,
- 0:55- surprises are not always a good thing, especially
- 0:57- if you've had a negative experience
- 1:00- with something.
- 1:01- So when life feels uncertain, we plan more,
- 1:05- think more,
- 1:07- analyze more, and sometimes worry more.
- 1:10- I think we worry probably more than all
- 1:12- the others think sometimes,
- 1:14- but
- 1:17- we try to control the conversation.
- 1:20- The timeline, the relationship,
- 1:22- the opportunity,
- 1:25- and the outcome,
- 1:27- which by the way, none of these things
- 1:29- are implementing our faith, which is what we
- 1:32- should be exercising.
- 1:34- But eventually, we discover something uncomfortable,
- 1:38- and that is that some things are simply
- 1:42- beyond our control.
- 1:45- Now control often gives us a temporary sense
- 1:48- of security.
- 1:50- I mean, let's face it. If we can
- 1:52- manage every detail, maybe we can prevent disappointment.
- 1:57- Well, good luck with that. Just being human
- 2:00- will will throw a monkey wrench in that,
- 2:03- but we're still gonna try to control what
- 2:05- belongs to God eventually,
- 2:08- which is gonna lead to exhaustion.
- 2:13- But trust asks us to do something different,
- 2:17- to do what God has given us
- 2:20- responsibility
- 2:21- to do,
- 2:23- then release the outcome to him.
- 2:27- Now where prayer comes in is that it
- 2:29- helps us separate
- 2:31- responsibility
- 2:32- from control.
- 2:35- It
- 2:36- causes us
- 2:38- to look
- 2:39- at
- 2:40- and ask
- 2:43- what is mine to do?
- 2:46- And then
- 2:48- what part belongs to God,
- 2:50- Which is often questions that we never really
- 2:52- take the time
- 2:54- to address or think about, but are very,
- 2:56- very important
- 2:58- since God is very collaborative
- 3:01- in our relationships
- 3:02- with him.
- 3:05- I mean, think about it.
- 3:09- Do what is yours? Faithfully
- 3:13- release the rest prayerfully.
- 3:16- That's what surrender is.
- 3:18- Not passivity.
- 3:21- It's not about giving up.
- 3:23- It's about trust.
- 3:27- And so that being said,
- 3:30- we have to take all of this to
- 3:32- the throne.
- 3:34- Heavenly father, help us recognize
- 3:37- where we're trying to control what belongs
- 3:40- in your hands.
- 3:42- Give us wisdom to handle our responsibilities
- 3:45- faithfully
- 3:46- and faith to release the outcome to you.
- 3:50- And when uncertainty makes us anxious, remind us
- 3:54- that you are already there
- 3:56- and we can make an intentional
- 3:59- choice to trust you, and we will bless
- 4:01- you in Jesus' name.
- 4:04- Well,
- 4:05- today,
- 4:08- take a moment,
- 4:11- pen and paper, and
- 4:15- write two columns.
- 4:17- On one side,
- 4:20- put what can I do?
- 4:23- And on the other side, what I must
- 4:25- trust God with.
- 4:28- Then
- 4:29- pray over them both because it's going to
- 4:31- take both of them to get you to
- 4:33- the end result that God wants for you.
- 4:37- And then to go to the next level,
- 4:42- we welcome you inside the inner chamber where
- 4:44- we're learning practical ways to build prayer into
- 4:48- the situations we face every day with scripture
- 4:51- based encouragement to help us keep growing.
- 4:54- And it's as simple as
- 4:58- going to divine515org/free.
- 5:03- And until next time, do what you can
- 5:06- and trust God with what you can't.
