  Speaker 1: As we get set for a new season of Yukon Hockey,

  Speaker 1: it starts on Friday night at Colorado College Weekend series

  Speaker 1: both Friday and Saturday nights. First of all, welcome to

  Speaker 1: a new season. Are you guys chopping at the bit?

  Speaker 2: I think we're ready. We've been practicing since the Tuesday

  Speaker 2: after Labor Day, and you've had a month of practices
• 0:38
  Speaker 2: and you haven't been able to play against an opponent.

  Speaker 2: I think the guys get a little bit itchy, So

  Speaker 2: I think we're ready to take on a you know,

  Speaker 2: Colorado College on Friday, for sure. I think our guys
• 0:52
  Speaker 2: are just they're tired of hitting each other. They want
• 0:54
  Speaker 2: to go hit somebody else.

  Speaker 3: I believe we talked about this some last year, this

  Speaker 3: meeting out of Colorado College, said you wanted guys to

  Speaker 3: get used to the idea of getting on a plane

  Speaker 3: and going to play somewhere, just emulating what could be

  Speaker 3: to come in the NCAA tournament. How did this particular

  Speaker 3: matchup come to be?

  Speaker 2: Well before COVID, we were trying to do a Western
• 1:15
  Speaker 2: trip every year and tried to line it up so
• 1:18
  Speaker 2: that right now, we're going to Colorado College this year,

  Speaker 2: they'll come to us next year. Ohio State's coming to
• 1:25
  Speaker 2: us this year, We'll go to them next So every
• 1:27
  Speaker 2: year we're trying to play a Western you know, two
• 1:31
  Speaker 2: Western opponents and one on the road and one at home.

  Speaker 2: And obviously Tyler Helton's from Colorado Springs and he had
• 1:38
  Speaker 2: some connections to some of those people and it just
• 1:43
  Speaker 2: worked out that they were free and we were and
• 1:45
  Speaker 2: we were able to put it together. But I think

  Speaker 2: it's a great quality opponent. That league is outstanding. You know,

  Speaker 2: you've had a lot of national champions from that league

  Speaker 2: as of recent So it'll be a great test for us.

  Speaker 1: Yeah, coming off of record twenty three wins last season

  Speaker 1: Hockey East Final for the second time, first NCAA tournament,

  Speaker 1: great home record, winning record on the road too. I mean,

  Speaker 1: a lot to look back at and really be proud

  Speaker 1: of what this team accomplished for last year, and I

  Speaker 1: don't know the way it ended, suddenly great goal.

  Speaker 3: How long would it take you to get over it?

  Speaker 1: I mean, my lasting impression of you on TV that night,

  Speaker 1: You're just swigging a bottle of water.

  Speaker 2: It's like, uh, you know who? And you been doing

  Speaker 2: it this long. I don't know if you ever truly

  Speaker 2: get over the losses. You just kind of move on

  Speaker 2: and you move on to your next challenge. And last

  Speaker 2: season's over. And it was a great season and probably

  Speaker 2: the best in Yukon history.

  Speaker 2: However, that has no it's not an indicator of what's

  Speaker 2: going to come this season. And I've tried to explain

  Speaker 2: to a lot of the players that if you guys

  Speaker 2: remember a few years ago, Merrimack was coming off one

  Speaker 2: of their first trips to the NCAA. I think they

  Speaker 2: had been before, but not many times, and they hadn't

  Speaker 2: been in a long time. And they had both their
• 3:04
  Speaker 2: goalies back and a lot of scorers back and top

  Speaker 2: defenseman back, and they're picked third in the league, just
• 3:11
  Speaker 2: like we were, and they finished tenth. You know, in
• 3:13
  Speaker 2: that year, we were picked fifth in the league, and
• 3:15
  Speaker 2: a lot of people were high on our team, and
• 3:17
  Speaker 2: we finished eighth, So where your preseason rankings are and

  Speaker 2: we've been on the other side of it too, where
• 3:23
  Speaker 2: you pick ninth or tenth and you finish a lot higher.

  Speaker 2: So where your preseason rankings are really is never an

  Speaker 2: indicator for how the next season's going to be or

  Speaker 2: how this season's going to be.

  Speaker 3: So no matter what you have coming back.

  Speaker 2: It doesn't really matter because you just don't know. There's

  Speaker 2: so many things that can happen during a season. Now,

  Speaker 2: you know, we only have twenty five players. Now, we

  Speaker 2: had two forwards get hurt a couple of weeks ago

  Speaker 2: and we didn't have them for three days. You only
• 3:53
  Speaker 2: have twelve forwards in practice, so you have to you're
• 3:55
  Speaker 2: limited on what you can do. And I know no

  Speaker 2: speaking with Gino, he went through something a couple of

  Speaker 2: years ago where you know, when you only have seven

  Speaker 2: or eight players for practice, you really have to get
• 4:08
  Speaker 2: creative with your players because you can't burn them out.

  Speaker 2: You don't want to injure them. So normal practices that

  Speaker 2: you would normally have during the year, you have to

  Speaker 2: tone some of those down and find different drills where

  Speaker 2: your players can get the proper conditioning they need, the

  Speaker 2: proper reps under game like pressure, but also you have

  Speaker 2: to be cognizant of the fact that you only have

  Speaker 2: twelve forwards out there and we can't wear them into
• 4:36
  Speaker 2: the ground.

  Speaker 3: You're someone who has been really open about talking to

  Speaker 3: their team about goals and what you want to accomplish

  Speaker 3: over the course of the year, and two goals, making

  Speaker 3: the NCAA Tournament, winning a game in the NCAA Tournament

  Speaker 3: you checked off the list for the first time in

  Speaker 3: program history. So coming into this year, how do you

  Speaker 3: approach goals and want guys in the locker room talking

  Speaker 3: about some goals.

  Speaker 2: Our goals are the same. Our goal was to win

  Speaker 2: a national title last year, and that's the same goal

  Speaker 2: that we have every year. And it's something that I've

  Speaker 2: never been afraid to talk about. I don't think I

  Speaker 2: don't think it's healthy for a team to be clandestine

  Speaker 2: or furtive with your goals. You know, we don't want
• 5:19
  Speaker 2: to let anyone else know or in case, you know,
• 5:23
  Speaker 2: we don't get there, because then we'll feel like it
• 5:26
  Speaker 2: was a failed season. I don't believe in that. Our

  Speaker 2: goal is to win a national title. Our goal is
• 5:31
  Speaker 2: to win a Hockey East Championship. Our goal is to
• 5:33
  Speaker 2: be Colorado College on Friday night. Those are our goals
• 5:37
  Speaker 2: and like those don't change. So it's something that our
• 5:42
  Speaker 2: kids are accustomed to, and I think the more you
• 5:44
  Speaker 2: talk about them, the healthier it is.

  Speaker 1: Right, we will get into the twenty five twenty six
