- 0:05Speaker 1: Here to take some time with God together with you today.
- 0:11Speaker 1: We're talking this week about the topic when God gets
- 0:15Speaker 1: our attention. I wonder if you've ever had that experience
- 0:19Speaker 1: in your life, where you're just kind of cruising along
- 0:23Speaker 1: and life is good and you're kind of forgetting your
- 0:27Speaker 1: need for God. Prayer is receding. It's not as much
- 0:32Speaker 1: a part of your life as it once was, and
- 0:35Speaker 1: your relationship with the Lord is becoming a bit more distant.
- 0:41Speaker 1: And God needs to get your attention. And many times
- 0:46Speaker 1: when God needs to get your attention, He begins to
- 0:48Speaker 1: upset the smooth surface of your life, to remind you
- 0:54Speaker 1: that He is necessary to you and your life.
- 1:00Speaker 1: In the book of Esther.
- 1:03Speaker 1: We find this beautiful story of Esther and her uncle
- 1:08Speaker 1: Mordecai who guides her and helps her grow strong in
- 1:12Speaker 1: her relationship with the Lord, and her uncle Mordecai is
- 1:17Speaker 1: trying to help Esther have the mindset that recognises that
- 1:22Speaker 1: God is in control of the circumstances of her life
- 1:26Speaker 1: and that she needs to constantly be thinking of how
- 1:29Speaker 1: God wants to use her.
- 1:31Speaker 1: And the king Ahazurus has an advisor, one of his
- 1:36Speaker 1: top men in the government named Haman, who hates Mordecai,
- 1:41Speaker 1: Esther's uncle, and is trying to do away with him.
- 1:46Speaker 1: And the king Attaurus in the middle of being manipulated
- 1:51Speaker 1: by his prime minister.
- 1:55Speaker 1: It says in Esther chapter 6 verse 1, During that night,
- 2:00Speaker 1: the king could not sleep.
- 2:03Speaker 1: So he gave an order to bring the book of records,
- 2:06Speaker 1: the chronicles, and they were read before the king, and
- 2:11Speaker 1: it was found written what Mordecai had reported, and it
- 2:16Speaker 1: goes on from there, you know.
- 2:20Speaker 1: If God wakes you up at night.
- 2:24Speaker 1: You should use that time to say, Lord, what are
- 2:30Speaker 1: you trying to say to me? What are you trying
- 2:33Speaker 1: to do if God gives you an uneasiness, a sense
- 2:37Speaker 1: that things are not right in your life? Well, go
- 2:40Speaker 1: to God. Don't.
- 2:43Speaker 1: First go to other people or first go somewhere else.
- 2:47Speaker 1: The place you need to go first of all, the
- 2:50Speaker 1: first stop in your life should be on your knees
- 2:53Speaker 1: talking to the Lord with your Bible open in front
- 2:56Speaker 1: of you and saying, Lord, ah, what is it?
- 3:00Speaker 1: What are you trying to say to me? What needs
- 3:03Speaker 1: to be realigned in my life? What values have gone
- 3:08Speaker 1: askew in my life?
- 3:11Speaker 1: And as you search for what God might be trying
- 3:16Speaker 1: to say to you, then talk to other people as
- 3:19Speaker 1: well and say, uh, do you have any sense of
- 3:23Speaker 1: something the Lord wants you to say to me? Go
- 3:25Speaker 1: to the Bible, read your Bible, search, pursue what God
- 3:30Speaker 1: is trying to say into your life.
- 3:34Speaker 1: You know, some people can't bear to get quiet with God.
- 3:41Speaker 1: To just have an extended time of silence with the Lord,
- 3:46Speaker 1: they've got to be doing something or reading something or
- 3:51Speaker 1: thinking about something actively.
- 3:54Speaker 1: But
- 3:55Speaker 1: You need to learn to get your Bible out when
- 3:58Speaker 1: you have a sense that God is trying to get
- 4:00Speaker 1: your attention.
- 4:02Speaker 1: And then just get quiet.
- 4:04Speaker 1: And say Lord, speak to me and let the Lord
- 4:07Speaker 1: direct your thoughts. If you need to start with one
- 4:11Speaker 1: passage of Scripture and just say, Lord, do you have
- 4:14Speaker 1: something to say to me here.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Learn to listen when God gets your attention.
- 4:20Speaker 1: I'm John North
