- 1:03support. Truly appreciate it. All right, Well, now it's time for
- 1:07today's episode of Nick Carter again, resetting to our normal time frame. Here
- 1:12from April the eighth of nineteen forty four is Murder by Magic? What is
- 1:30it another case for? Yes, it's another case for that most famous of
- 1:42all manhunters. The detectives ability of solving time is unequaled in the history of
- 1:47detective fiction. Nick Carter, Master Detective Nice, Curious Adventure, Murder by
- 1:53Magic or Nick Carter and the Mystery of the Missing Identity. I wonder how
- 2:05Scovery's making out. Do you suppose that he had any trouble. I doubt
- 2:07if Patsy Scubby knows Philadelphia well enough to get all the information I want without
- 2:12any difficulty. Yes, but he's been gone three days now. He isn't
- 2:15trying to be gone that long, did he? Well? No, Patsy,
- 2:16But is that all it's possible to tell? In events? How long
- 2:19it's going to take? The fun Nick Kurdado, make that pay Scovey.
- 2:24Yeah, he's here. How are you making out? Please? Put in
- 2:27the I got to talk to him quick, for sure. Scovey. Here
- 2:30he is. He's Covey sounds over. It was something wrong? I love
- 2:34Scovey. What's up? Can you have a Chicago right away? Chicago thought
- 2:38you went to Philadelphia? I thought it, I but I landed in Chicago.
- 2:40What how I in trouble? I kind of trouble. I think you
- 2:44have killed him? Man. Oh no, I don't try to be funny,
- 2:45Skelly. This is all about I'm nothing funny. Then I'm really in
- 2:47a cham I apparently killed him man last night. Oh look here, Skevey.
- 2:51You certainly know whether you've killed somebody or not. But I don't make
- 2:53what makes you think you have. It's also in the paper flat paper,
- 2:57the Chicago paper. Oh please, we can come out here right away.
- 3:00I've got to have help and other hurry all right, Chovy, that's it
- 3:02and I leave it once. What are you saying? A little hotel on
- 3:05the un called Paradise mansion. I have a character here since I read about
- 3:08the murders. Okay, Scovevey said, tight, we'll be there as soon
- 3:12as the plane can get us there. Gosh if we were offty lucky to
- 3:23get seats on this thing, yesssy. Well, now that we're safely on
- 3:25our way, let's take a look at the Chicago papers I bought. See
- 3:30what they have to say about our Frank Scovey. Okay, not make on
- 3:34the front page, lad of night, cut paste and sort. Here's a
- 3:38snapshot of the killer taking up the nightclubs. I wonder how they happened to
- 3:42get that, which does look kind of like scummy Jetty. That could be.
- 3:46I look at these fingerprints. Certainly Scobies, I know them anywhere.
- 3:50Certainly Scovey cigarette. It's the one I gave him last christ So I see
- 3:54says here. Cold blooded killing, reminiscent of the gang wars of years ago,
- 4:00makes you do you think that's Covyoh. I wouldn't believe it if he
- 4:02admitted I Covey couldn't get anybody. It certainly looks as if he got himself
- 4:06into some real trouble this time. What's he doing in Chicago? Oh?
- 4:25Nick? Oh, I never was so glad to see anyone in my whole
- 4:28life. Come in quick. I'm going to get this door closed anyway.
- 4:31Huh. Yeah, I'm glad to see you're still out of jail. So
- 4:34Nick, don't choke about it. I'm just about crazy. Look, I'm
- 4:36in a jam. I suppose you sit down and tell us just what happened,
- 4:40and begin at the beginning. Don't leave out anything. All right,
- 4:43Oh, it's quite a story. I'm pretty unbelievable. I'll try to tell
- 4:46it the best I can. As you know, I started for Philadelphia.
- 4:48I was sitting in the airport waiting waiting for my plane to be an honest,
- 4:51somebody stumbled over my feet. I looked up, expecting him to say
- 4:55excuse me, and I heard a funny, shrill little voice say, go
- 4:59why don't you keep you up? Why why don't you look where you're going?
- 5:01You are so stupid to be allowed out in public. Yeah, well,
- 5:04nobody asks you for your opinions. You don't like my feet, just
- 5:08keep away from it. Trying to consult me? Are You're not even fit
- 5:11to speak to me? You're stupid idiots. Look here, bud, that's
- 5:14three times you've used that word stupid about me. The fourth time might get
- 5:16you a skin nose. Come on on your way. You are attempting to
- 5:19divert my senses from the concentration of inner thought to the grosser contemplations of ex
- 5:24turn all wild, come again, but you are as clumsy as a cow.
- 5:27It's doing it. Look fella, if you've got somewhere to go,
- 5:30just go ahead. Your room is better than your company entitastic. That is
- 5:34because you do not know who I am? All right, I'll buy Who
- 5:38are you? You tell me and see if I care. It is useless
- 5:41to tell you that thing you think is your mind is arrested, worthless tool,
- 5:46a sponge, too dry out to took of anything. Oh dumb,
- 5:48you mean exactly? You really want to know who I am? Quite frankly,
- 5:53I don't give a tinker's damn. I am Cheechy the magnificant in the
- 5:57central counsel of the Father inwards. I am the most completely. Don't be
- 6:00quick, brother, you don't make sense. I am the mystic the whole
- 6:04council. I am the most honored there has been in twenty generations. No
- 6:10other great enough to be the mystic, but I am he. Okay,
- 6:15Well, now that we settled that I was about some peace and quiet,
- 6:17you I have offended me. Great rush. May I do not let such
- 6:20a princess go unpunished. I shall sit here, betid do it decide?
- 6:25What's your punishment it's going to be. I shall say no more until I
- 6:28have this. Okay, Well, happy thoughts? My mystic A little pal.
- 6:33So he sat down beside me and didn't say another word. He was
- 6:36a funny, weaseled up little man, and he amused me rather than worried
- 6:39me. So I forgot all about him. Did he take the same thing?
- 6:42I don't get ahead of me passing. I was tired from working all
- 6:45night than the night before, and I guess I must have dozed off.
- 6:47The next thing I knew somebody was shaking Eve by the shoulder. Well,
- 6:51fond of it. As far as this cap goes, I wake up.
- 6:56Pay This is where you get off. Huh oh sure, sure anyway,
- 7:00come on, Bounty, this is your hotel. There must have been some
- 7:04night you had last night that bousy Stop calling me palsy? Sure sure,
- 7:10whatever you say, Patty, Ruth is the matter with you? Why does
- 7:15my PI feel so funny? Hey? Where I am? I? Where's
- 7:19the plane? Look? GOALSI. I don't know who you're getting, but
- 7:23this is where you live. Now you're getting out of You're gonna stay in
- 7:26a cab or where's my bankage? Plenty? Little kid a palsy? Now,
- 7:29come on, come on, get out, get out. You better
- 7:31get them sleep. There's nothing like it for a hangover. All right?
- 7:35Oh hey, you better give me a hand to get out of here.
- 7:39How game poundy? Yeah you go? All right? Now, what does
- 7:46the meter say? Dame is always bousy fifty c Yeah, well he's six
- 7:51fifty and look bounding. You generally give me five bucks for holling you.
- 7:57I'll get you a not on the head of it. Don't stop ridding me?
- 8:00Okay, yeah, now you sound more like yourself. See you later,
- 8:05and he drove off, leaving me standing in front of the cummy of
- 8:07wicking hotel. I ever hope to stop it? You mean you have no
- 8:09notion? No, oh you got that? Not the thing you get?
- 8:11Hold everything? Why do I finish the story? Wella I was apparently expected
- 8:16to go in the hotel. I did. As I approached the desk room
- 8:18clerk, I had sack with a sour puss cost me a key. Dah
- 8:22missed the gush and I picked up the key and started to ask the clerk
- 8:26a lot of questions. But my head was so busy I couldn't think straight.
- 8:30So I went up to room seven fourteen, which was the number on
- 8:33the key. What was it like? Oh? Cheap and flashy, and
- 8:35I reached a cheap person. I found some letter paper on the writing desk
- 8:39and the letter head said Hotel Prince Royal, Chicago, and I at least
- 8:43knew where I was. My head was aching so that I stumbled into the
- 8:48bathroom debated. I got one look at myself in the mirror, and I
- 8:52could almost finished me. Well, it wasn't me the mirror. That's ridiculous,
- 8:56How could it be anyone else? Well, that's what I wanted to
- 8:58know. What I saw was a typical cheap, pasty face gangster with red
- 9:01hair. It was then and then I discovered that I was wearing a zoot
- 9:05suit. You don't want that, but I didn't amuse me Nick. By
- 9:09this time, I was scared sick. My head was so dizzy I couldn't
- 9:13finish it. Thought maybe I was still having some kind of nightmare. So
- 9:20I picked up the house bun. When the operator answered, I asked her,
- 9:24what day is the Friday? Friday, March twenty fourth. Then it
- 9:33was yesterday that I left New York. Oh nothing, that's all. Thanks?
- 9:39Oh hell, huh, I guest her from the hospital. You just
- 9:43broke daddy down, that's all? What? Oh? When was that?
- 9:48Well? I was not you remember, don't worry. Daddy's good the top?
- 9:54Oh oh yeah, thanks? Why? And then I hung up the
- 10:00phone. It was getting worse and worse. I went back into the bathroom
- 10:05for a now to look at my new face, and then the rooms are
- 10:07all coming. I heard someone come in. Huh oh, hello, hi,
- 10:15cousin mish, Thanks? Thanks? What would you mind telling me who
- 10:24you are? That's any one on Dolly fails? What's the ribs? Or
- 10:28I just want to find out who you are. I'm Dolly the spare rib
- 10:31the girlfriend. You're you're my girlfriend? Bay Kelsey, you're talking awful plenty.
- 10:39What goes? Just some new kind of a brush off? No,
- 10:43you must understand me if you're trying to give me the no. No,
- 10:46it's still love dove. Yeah, it's more like it. A minute.
- 10:52You had me guess you all the way? Tails you? Well? Where
- 10:54was your last night? We had a date? Gate? Why'd you stand
- 10:58me up? So I don't like that? Rat? I better explain and
- 11:05make it good. Why I had business? Oh? I gave it?
- 11:09Did a job? You want me to cover for you? Okay? Where
- 11:13do I say we went last night? Oh? Well, I I think
- 11:18that we better say that. Oh yes, ye something going on around here?
- 11:24Right? Hello? Okay, okay, what what was it? He
- 11:33says? This poor guy's name Spike, Steeve, bind Me and Lucky coming
- 11:37up to see you. I got a blow them guys can meet a chill,
- 11:39honey. The real killers me ain't fussy who they killed? I fly
- 11:45good bye? N What happened to me? Were the four gentlemen of the
- 11:52late spectations? Or they were gangsters? All right? They came sliding into
- 11:54the room as if they were afraid of me. Well, I had already
- 11:58discovered I was supposed to be a guy named Gerson Mugg who broke girl's arms
- 12:01when I wanted to. And I was a no good who gay five dollar
- 12:05tips for taxi drivers. And I was at Trik who had his girlfriend cover
- 12:07up for him when he did a job. And now I seem to be
- 12:09buddies with this gang of one of them. I was a good I did
- 12:15all the talking. I have thousands. Look you guys, look me over.
- 12:20Check with a my palsy Gerson. It's a matter of posy bed hangover.
- 12:28Oh, let it go, let's cook it. What pals We're clean.
- 12:35There's not a rod on any of us. We come here for a
- 12:37piece talk. Yeah, yeah, we've been pals working together for a long
- 12:43time now, we've been like that, right, So what so everybody knows
- 12:50we're tied up with you, even that cops know it. Now, if
- 12:54you get pulled in, we all get pulled in because the cops will figure
- 12:58we're all in it to get Oh what are you getting here about this rubbot?
- 13:03Last night? We didn't know nothing about that palsy. It didn't tell
- 13:05us. So we want you to give it the lowdown so we'll know what
- 13:09to say. If one of us get to take that. Oh, what
- 13:11are you talking about? Halt, Palsy. Everybody knows about last night's killing.
- 13:16You know it was your job, even if you did hire someone else
- 13:18to do it for you. Waiting all the newspapers this morning, let me
- 13:22see that favor. Oh there was the headline, all right, murder in
- 13:28nightclub. And there was a picture of me, not a picture of that
- 13:31Palsy Gerson, but of me, Scubby Wilson, taken on the spot by
- 13:35the nightclub photographers said. And there were my fingerprints, dicks, those princip
- 13:39both of us know so well, found on the gunment issues and a picture
- 13:43of the cigarette lighter Patsy gave me last Christmas. Look, you got me
- 13:48all wrong. I'm not Pelsy Gerson. There's been a terrible mistake. Palsy.
- 13:54You mean you ain't going to be straight with this? I tell you
- 13:56this is all a mistake. How's are you trying to cross us up?
- 14:00We don't like it. We ain't gonna tell listen a minute. You can't
- 14:01finish to what Powsy. Come on, boys, think I'm over watch got
- 14:05first ride cross Oh I was so weak I couldn't do a thing and a
- 14:13minute later, they've been a black check over my last year. And I
- 14:15went out cold, kebby your poor guy, you setting me at a tough
- 14:18time. Well, how did you get out of that howsy Gerson roll?
- 14:22I don't know, Nick, Well, I can't chool you. And I
- 14:24was on the bed in this room, and they there are a few minutes
- 14:28getting my senses back. Then I jumped off the bed and raced to the
- 14:31mirror. I was myself again. I was kebby Wilson once more, and
- 14:35in my own clothes, and my hair wasn't web anymore, and my own
- 14:37lucka she was on the rack at the foot of the bed. Things like
- 14:39that just don't happen. So I've heard, Patsy, but you can't prove
- 14:43it by me. So you went to sleep in the airport in New York.
- 14:48When you woke up, your mind was in the body of a local
- 14:52crook named Palsy Gerson, and some of Gerson's pals knocked over the head.
- 14:56When you woke up again, you were back in your own body, and
- 14:58this will yeah, that's right. And while you were using Gerson's body,
- 15:03somebody was using your body to kill that guy in the night club. Yeah,
- 15:07Yo, I know it sounds insane, Nick, but that's the way
- 15:09I see it from here. And unless something happens, I'm slated for the
- 15:11electric Sure. If we can't let anything happen, Scubby, I'll worry.
- 15:16That's who we won't our first would die Scubby's hair, make him up so
- 15:20that he won't me too weak, They recognize and here's the police are looking
- 15:22for him. Then I don't have the police pick up this Palsy Gerson,
- 15:26his girlfriend Dolly and his four thugs. If it really exists, and somehow
- 15:30I think they do. I want to see what the body Scubby was using
- 15:33has to say for itself. Well, Nick, he's past two days haven't
- 15:50gotten us very far. We located Palsy Gerson and he satisfied the police,
- 15:54but he knows nothing about it. His girlfriend Dolly isn't the same girl who
- 15:58came to see me, and the telephone operator will call me. Palsy has
- 16:00disappeared and can't be found. All of which adds up to a large round
- 16:06zero. You're wrong, Scuvey. It all adds up to proof that you
- 16:08were part of a well laid plan. But why Nick, Why look Scovevey
- 16:12if the police discover that you are the one who apparently killed a man in
- 16:15the night slub, they'll arrest you, and I, even with my reputation
- 16:19for being on the right side of the law, will be arrested with you
- 16:22as an accessory. After the fact, police couldn't do anything else, all
- 16:26of which would be an excellent way for somebody to commit or murder and at
- 16:30the same time get someone he didn't like jailed for the said killing. Scovey,
- 16:36I think I'm the one there after, and they used you to get
- 16:38me for how we're going to stat we don't promp which I prove that I
- 16:42didn't do. That's what I'm trying to do now, Scovey, get that
- 16:45proof before the police catch up with us. So I haven't had me see
- 16:51where that is. Everything Hold, everything be a wards for the arrest of
- 16:59Scovey Nick Carter in connection with the murder of John Waters. But why didn't
- 17:14they keep you in jail too? Because they were extremely decent about it,
- 17:17Patsy. They told me that although they had positive proof that Scubby committed the
- 17:22murder, that I had been a betting him in defiance of the law.
- 17:26They were so so impressed with my insistence that Scubby didn't murter him that.
- 17:30Out of consideration for my past reputation, they were going to give me ten
- 17:33days to prove his innocence if I could. If I fail in that time
- 17:37and I get myself up, and they proceeded the charges against Scubby and me,
- 17:41How did they find out about him? Nick? Very simple, Patsy.
- 17:44They sent the fingerprints they found on the gun to Washington to the FBI,
- 17:48and they identified them as Scubby's. You know, he and I are
- 17:49both on file there as law enforcement agents that an investigation voun Scubby was living
- 17:55here, and the rest was easy. What's your next movement? That's see,
- 17:59if my hunch is right, a man behind this wants to get at
- 18:02me for some reason. Rather so, he's going to be awful mad when
- 18:04he finds the police to let me go again, and he may try to
- 18:07do something himself about getting me out of the way. And if he doesn't,
- 18:12I have a couple of the boys keeping their eyes open for anyone who
- 18:15looks like that mystic Scubby's telling us about. I believe he's at the bottom
- 18:19of all this, Patsy. I can lay my hands on him. I
- 18:23feel sure he can tell us all the answers. But he might mystic,
- 18:26you too, Nick, the way he did Scuvey. He might, but
- 18:30I doubt it. Well, I'm going on to pick up a paper the
- 18:33newstand. I'll be right back there, even in journal. Please thanks.
- 18:45Don't make any sudden moves. But looking for me, you Nick Carter,
- 18:52Yes, then you're the one we want. What can I do for you?
- 18:56Keep your hands in plain sights on me and my two boys. Don't
- 19:00have to do any sudden shooting. This ain't a water pistol I got here.
- 19:06I'll take your word for it. What do we do now? A
- 19:10mystic wants to talk to you? Come on and come quiet, say a
- 19:26friend. Any idea why the mystic wants to talk to me? I don't
- 19:30think he likes the idea. The cops letting you go after they took you
- 19:33to the jug. He thought he was out of the way for keeps and
- 19:37I was going to do something himself about getting rid of me. Huh,
- 19:40No, me and the boys, they're going to do it for him.
- 19:45When now, as soon as we get down to the pier, oh,
- 19:49an old abandoned pier. I suppose, yeah, one way, there ain't
- 19:53nobody to bother us when we take care of you just around the corner,
- 19:59but are planning to with me. A couple of sash weights tied your legs
- 20:03a little the trick after putting a couple of bullets through your head. Lucky,
- 20:10Yeah, you get out. The sash waits in the rope in the
- 20:12back of the car. Funny, Bryan, if you go get the girl,
- 20:17you'll take care about the girl and Carter at the same time, like
- 20:19the four suggested. All right, Carter, you and me will walk out
- 20:25on a pier together. Don't forget how I got this little persuader in my
- 20:30hand, getting dark, which is what we want. But even if you
- 20:33can't see this thirty eight of mine, it's still there pointing at you.
- 20:37I have no doubt you're right, and I shan't forget you know you can't
- 20:41hope to kill me and not pay for it. I think my chances on
- 20:45that, Carter, you ain't the first guy I bumped off, and you
- 20:48ain't gonna be the last. It will be far enough. I don't then
- 20:55there's not much I can do about it. Is that? No? Whoh?
- 20:59Is that the girl coming with your panel? There where. Oh yeah,
- 21:03make your arm drop top, there's no noise. If you want to
- 21:07stay alive, I'll drop it. Thanks, I'll take charge here. I'll
- 21:11do just as I say, and you won't get hurt of trying to the
- 21:12funny business. You'll never see that again. You understands. Yeah, yeah,
- 21:17you need to break my arm or go live. He come to the
- 21:18girl and Bernie a sound of you? Okay, okay, this is enough
- 21:25waiting for the answer him answer him right there. Yeah, we got enough.
- 21:32I'm gonna bring her over here. Bring her over here. Coming.
- 21:37You didn't want to your gun and get your hands up? Right? Why
- 21:41get those hands up. I'll take your gun too, now, Bernie,
- 21:48come over here, Yes, a little closer. What are you gonna do?
- 21:55It's getting dark now, it's time for dead. So I'm just gonna
- 21:59put you like, yes here, you don't have to kill him your I
- 22:04didn't kill him, Oh yes, I am, or I did craying something
- 22:10like this. It happened, but I didn't think it would quiet. We're
- 22:11not out of the woods yet, Spike. Keep your mouth shut if you
- 22:17want to keep on living. When he gets hit, tell him to bring
- 22:18you the weights and stuff. Well, I know that no got him.
- 22:25Bring this stuff over hair, Okay, don't bow Blackie. I've got the
- 22:30gun this time, all right, young lady, he got the gun out
- 22:33of his pocket. Please, I'll take it. Thanks. Now, Lucky,
- 22:41I want you to tie up your pale Bernie there. Then you can
- 22:45tie up Spike. Yeah, and I'll tie you up. You have the
- 22:48finishing touches to all three of you and be on my way. I mean
- 22:49you're gonna leave his Hat's exactly what I want, are you? All right?
- 22:52Lucky? Get vised with those rope. Times getting short, and I've
- 22:55got a real score to settle with your boss. Gems Carr. Woman should
- 23:11be bloo drink when you get out of his I'm sure not of practice.
- 23:19I like him on. We believe them as safely. Now say, look,
- 23:25I ain't told you who I am yet I know who are you.
- 23:29I'm Dolly Dally. They're not Gir's friends. Well, and the other one
- 23:33want to mystic Hia to visit your friend in the hotel, So that's where
- 23:37you are. How much do you know about this record? Oh? I
- 23:41don't know nothing about a fan. But sincey snatched me and kept me lock
- 23:44up in their hideout. I learned a lost I'm listening to him talk.
- 23:47Stop here a minute. What's this all about? Dalling? If that's your
- 23:51name, my real name is Anne. You didn't really think he was telling
- 23:55us? She certainly did for a while. That's a sort of fixed on
- 24:00it. He has an amstetis gas that he did when you were sleeping knocked
- 24:03out. He duped his friend in the airport and going Chicago. He needed
- 24:07somebody take him up like a mob to him. He let him wake up
- 24:11in a test. I suppose you paid all those people to put on the
- 24:14ex to convince study he really was only the catty drive at the telephone girl
- 24:18the hotel clut me the poor he was already remembered the game. And they
- 24:22beat him up for this mystic and give him another side of the guess well
- 24:25he was unconscious and let him wake up with himself. Yeah, and he
- 24:27was so sope all the time we was putting on the egg, so he
- 24:30never could figure out what was going on. Clever, and how did you
- 24:34get in on this? I wanted to be an extic. They hired me
- 24:38to put on his back. They told me they were ribbing some friend of
- 24:41his When I saw the publicity in the papers and I told that you got
- 24:45arrested too. I knew it wasn't no gag and whether the way the headquarters
- 24:48was one day to see if they were still there so I could go to
- 24:51the police. But somebody saw me there and grabbed me. I've been locked
- 24:53up ever since. You know why they wanted to do all this. The
- 24:56mystic New York friend was going to fill a down you to get some soap
- 25:00on a racket. The mystic was ahead of the gang and he wanted to
- 25:03scare your friend off. He hope to scare you off too. He getting
- 25:07ready to words. The steam wracked all over the country and he was the
- 25:11only one was getting hot on his trail. When we didn't scare off,
- 25:15he had to take matters into his own hands. I suppose it was one
- 25:18of the mystics tugs who did the killing in the night club. It was
- 25:21spiked, made up to look like your pale, and he left the evidence
- 25:25of the cop star who is the man that killed some fellow wouldn't play ball
- 25:27away? Wanted to You know where the headquarters of this gang is, Cure
- 25:33It's about a block from here. Let me show you you bet I do.
- 25:37With your help, I'm going to get that mystic if he's there.
- 25:55That's the pip that little house beside the warehouse he ran on this. Let's
- 26:00talk how many in the gang? Five? Besides, you've got three.
- 26:03I'm tied up on the piece. Good. Can you handle a gun?
- 26:07I don't know. I'll try it if you want me. Good, take
- 26:10this one. Go around to the other door. When you hear me fire
- 26:14wants to shoot that gun? Six shots fast? They do that? Will
- 26:18you try to pick the lock on this door? Go in and try to
- 26:21trap them. They try to make a get away through the other door.
- 26:23The shots you fire and make them think they're surrounded. Okay, good,
- 26:27Lock in the car. I'll be listening for you now, mister mystic.
- 26:33Let's see how mysticful you really are. First, I get this door open.
- 26:41Yeah, that was easy because they're not expecting tro Now find and fine,
- 26:53taking care of car, taking care of that strat is. But I

- 27:29in the air. I am and Oliver, and now you can come in.
- 27:36Fike's over here. Captivation. All right. Then go to the nearest
- 27:41telephone and call police headquarters. Tell them we'll have the correct answer to the
- 27:45killing the Scubby's charged with, and tell him to send some cops down.
- 27:47He wrapped the right away. Now who's on top? Missed some mystic pre
- 27:52You try a little magic now, all right, and going Scubby will be
- 27:56very anxious to get this good news. My I mean gill me. You
- 28:00didn't have any please call with you, no, my mystical friend, just
- 28:03me and the girls. By using my own special brand of magic, you
- 28:07couldn't tell a difference. That's the kind of magic worth using. This has
- 28:23been another of the strange adventures of Nick Carter, Master Detective, which had
- 28:29brought to you regularly each week at the same time by W O. R.
- 28:32Mutual. Well, Nick, I'd like to hear a few of the
- 28:34high spots the next week's story. Okay, next week's story started with a
- 28:40cat, but not a common ordinary cat. This one was a lemon yellow
- 28:44Persian cat with a pedigree. The chase started when I tried to find a
- 28:48said pedigree's foot, which had been stolen from it rightful and very ultra ultra
- 28:52owner. But before long I found I was involved in first kidnapping, murder,
- 28:56and other varieties of lawbreaking, which included being you know, the head
- 29:00and being shot at in the darks. Not exactly an amusing case. It
- 29:03was a deadly serious case. Before it was finished. I call it A
- 29:07Cat Brings Death or the Mystery of the Missing Persians. And that's all for
- 29:12now. So long, So long, everybody, and so long are you
- 29:17both Nick and Patsy? In the strange adventure you have just heard? Nick
- 29:21Carter was impersonated by Linklock, Patsy by Helen Chokes, Covery by John Kine.
- 29:26Original music was played by Lou White. The entire production was written and
- 29:30directed by Jack McGregor. Next week, at the same time, listen to
- 29:47another curious experience of Nick Carter, entitled A Cat Brings Death or Nick Cotter
- 29:53and the Mystery of the Missing Persians. This story is the copyrighted feature of
- 30:03Fident Smith Publications Incorporated. The kind of Nick Carter is produced in the studios
- 30:07of WR and is broadcast over most of these stations every Saturday evening at ten
- 30:11fifteen Eastern Waltime. This is neutual welcome back. Well, that was a
- 30:30pretty clever mystic. I have to be there a little disappointed that his plan
- 30:36B wasn't a little more imaginative. Of course, the realists will point out
- 30:41that it really would have made sense just to try and shoot Nick Carter in
- 30:45the first place, rather than putting him on alert. But these are the
- 30:51Nick Carter stories really do derive from the pulse, and the focus here is
- 30:55not necessarily on doing things in a logical or realistic way, in a way
- 31:00that's entertaining, and certainly this episode was that, and I hope you enjoyed
- 31:04it. Well, that will do it for today. We will be back
- 31:07tomorrow with the last part of the Laughing Matter, and then join us back
- 31:12here on Thursday for another episode of Nick Carter. In the meantime, sendor
