- 1:08Donna J. Jodhan: Hello there. My name is Donna J.
- 1:10Jodhan. I am an advocate, an author, blogger,
- 1:16sight loss coach, dinner mystery writer and producer,
- 1:20entrepreneur, law graduate and podcast commentator.
- 1:26I am extremely privileged and very humbled to tell you that each of these roles has enabled
- 1:33me to become more comfortable at sharing my bi weekly World Commentary podcast with you.
- 1:43It is titled remarkable BI Weekly World Commentary.
- 1:49And for this week, I really want to zoom in on online complaints systems.
- 1:57A lot of improvement has been made in online complaints systems.
- 2:04But there still remains a very, very common challenge.
- 2:11A challenge where complaint systems are not, or sometimes not very usable and sometimes
- 2:19not very accessible. And if we don't address this more quickly,
- 2:24it would become more of a chronic problem than an exception to the rule.
- 2:32These systems can be improved.
- 2:35Every single department within the Canadian government has a complaints system.
- 2:41Every company or every high profile company or most companies boast of online complaint
- 2:49systems. And I'd like to see these complaint systems improve to the point where we can use
- 2:57them, or we as blind and vision impaired people,
- 3:01persons with disabilities and seniors can use them to bring to the attention,
- 3:08complaints and concerns for companies and departments.
- 3:14It is doable. All we need to do is not just get involved in a retrofit,
- 3:21no build these or build accessibility and usability features into your complaints
- 3:29systems. Whenever you design a new one, I know that there are many systems out there
- 3:38that exist that people might say, well, we can't really do this or do that,
- 3:43but what about having a special section for accessibility complaints?
- 3:50I've seen it on certain websites, and I'm urging companies and government
- 3:56departments to do the same.
- 4:00Complaint systems should be looked upon as systems where we get to engage and
- 4:05communicate, not just complain.
- 4:08It's an instrument for us to collaborate more effectively with each other.
- 4:15So let's have or let's make a pledge to make online complaints systems more
- 4:25accessible and more usable.
- 4:29I'm Donna Jodhan, and I do thank you for dropping by to listen to my remarkable bi
- 4:35weekly world commentary.
- 4:39I will talk to you the next time.
- 4:42Take care and bye for now.
