- 0:00Hello. I briefly unraveled the fabric of reality,
- 0:04but stuff still happened. So what's up? You are
- 0:08all cordially invited to come over to my house
- 0:11so that we can all sit down at the table and
- 0:13play a rousing game of contracts and coworkers.
- 0:16Employees at Hasbro's subsidiary, Wizards of
- 0:18the Coast, have unionized with the Communication
- 0:21Workers of America, CWA. Wizards of the Coast
- 0:24makes a bunch of games like Magic the Gathering,
- 0:27Dungeons & Dragons, and other games that are
- 0:29made by Wizards of the Coast. Now you would think
- 0:31that they would be chill as hell, right? They're
- 0:34called Wizards of the Coast and like they make
- 0:36games in which you just kind of have fun chilling
- 0:39with your friends. They're not. They're really
- 0:43not. I mean they kind of maybe were one day way
- 0:45long ago, but mostly they're a subsidiary of
- 0:48Hasbro and Hasbro fucking sucks. That is my opinion,
- 0:53not market analysis. So the Wizards Union, they,
- 0:57uh, whew, that's a fun thing to say, uh, they
- 0:59are asking for Hasbro to formally recognize them
- 1:02voluntarily, which Hasbro slash Wizards has already
- 1:05said no. That's more or less to be expected.
- 1:07That's, that's kind of their MO. They've also
- 1:11said no in the past. So the first step is gonna
- 1:13be getting the Union recognized, but they are
- 1:15working with a major Union and that's, it's just
- 1:18gonna be a long fight. And so they're gonna have
- 1:20to go through that and then contract negotiation,
- 1:22and then hopefully they'll get what they're looking
- 1:24for. According to their announcement, here's
- 1:27some of the stuff that they're trying to get
- 1:28from the company. Better compensation standards,
- 1:32stronger job security mechanisms, accessible
- 1:34healthcare options, hybrid work options, AI protections,
- 1:39and more. Not a whole lot more. And that's pretty
- 1:42basic stuff. Hey, can we get like capable pay
- 1:45and like reasonable accommodations? And also,
- 1:49like, little side tangent about the AI stuff,
- 1:52Wizards is known for having beautiful artwork,
- 1:54and a huge pool of artists that they work with
- 1:58to produce that artwork. And then they've also
- 2:00had their ass caught using AI to generate artwork
- 2:03for their official material. And they're like,
- 2:04oh, we didn't mean to. Sure. So, hopefully, AI
- 2:09protections will be a thing. It's gonna be a
- 2:11fight, but I think that they are up for it, and
- 2:13I'm hoping... that they're gonna win solidarity
- 2:15with the Union, as always. It also doesn't hurt
- 2:18that a huge portion of the community, from Dungeons
- 2:21& Dragons and Magic the Gathering and all that,
- 2:23are in support of the Union. Because, shocker,
- 2:26they care about the things that they play and
- 2:28the people who make them. And so there's been
- 2:30pretty vocal support, especially from people
- 2:32who are well known in the actual play space,
- 2:35which is a type of show where people play Dungeons
- 2:37& Dragons for, like, several hours at a time.
- 2:41Roland Dice. Playing games. Committing mortgage
- 2:46fraud. That's you. That last one. You, specifically.
- 2:50Dear listener, you have committed mortgage fraud.
- 2:52Okay, maybe, maybe not you specifically. I don't
- 2:57know, but that doesn't take away from the fact
- 2:58that you have committed mortgage fraud. The Trump
- 3:00administration is no stranger to doing the exact
- 3:03things that they constantly complain were done
- 3:05to them, and for today, we're gonna take a look
- 3:07at, quote, weaponizing the Department of Justice.
- 3:10And really, we're just gonna take one Narrow
- 3:13slice because there's just a lot that you could
- 3:15use as evidence of the Trump administration weaponizing
- 3:18the Department of Justice, but we're going to
- 3:20focus on mortgage fraud accusations. For whatever
- 3:23reason, this fuck ass administration keeps trying
- 3:26to go after their loudly stated political enemies
- 3:30with specifically mortgage fraud. It has gotten
- 3:33to the point that I'm genuinely confused as to
- 3:35why they're still doing this. Try something else.
- 3:39So far in just the second term of Trump's presidency,
- 3:42the following people have been targeted or investigated
- 3:45or referred for something relating to mortgage
- 3:47fraud. New York Attorney General Letitia James,
- 3:51who brought the fraud case against Trump in the
- 3:53District of New York, he didn't like that. She
- 3:55was charged with mortgage fraud and then the
- 3:57charges were dropped because the prosecutor that
- 3:59she was charged by was illegally appointed. After
- 4:03that debacle, they tried to go to a grand jury
- 4:05to indict her again, and two different grand
- 4:07juries both refused to indict her, likely because
- 4:11there was fucking nothing. Adam Schiff, Democrat
- 4:14boy and critic of Trump online, has been another
- 4:19one that has been targeted. He's been probed
- 4:21for mortgage fraud. The probe has stalled, but
- 4:25it hasn't closed, technically. So he's still
- 4:28being probed for mortgage fraud. Eric Swalwell,
- 4:33a disgraced sex pest, allegedly, and former Democratic
- 4:40boy who also would criticize Trump online, and
- 4:43I don't want to sit here and defend him very
- 4:45much, was also targeted for mortgage fraud bullshit.
- 4:48Fonny Willis, Fulton County District Attorney
- 4:50who wanted to investigate Trump, was also referred
- 4:52for mortgage fraud investigations. Lisa Cook,
- 4:55a Federal Reserve governor who Trump has wanted
- 4:57to get rid of for reasons. It's a black woman
- 5:01that was appointed by a Democrat. He tried to
- 5:03get rid of her. The Supreme Court said you can't
- 5:05just do that without cause. And so he opened
- 5:08up an investigation into mortgage fraud for her.
- 5:11And that hasn't come up with anything. That was
- 5:13August of 2025. And just now, it still hasn't
- 5:17done anything. And he still wants to get rid
- 5:19of her. And so they are now going to open a probe
- 5:22into allegations of mortgage fraud, their own
- 5:25allegations, probing the allegations of the probe
- 5:29that were allocated from an alligator. Now, a
- 5:34reasonable person would say, okay, look, that's
- 5:37a lot of people who were charged with mortgage
- 5:38fraud that are all critical of Trump, but they're
- 5:40also all politicians. And at the end of the day,
- 5:42a lot of politicians are doing a lot of crimes.
- 5:45So like, is it really that unlikely? To which
- 5:47I would say, yeah, I mean, yeah, it's pretty
- 5:49unlikely. But I get you, right? Like, it's not
- 5:53like I want to sit here and defend politicians
- 5:55at large. So after the big spike in mortgage
- 5:58fraud investigations against Trump critics, Reuters
- 6:00was like, is this... Abnormal? And the answer
- 6:03is, yeah. They went over, like, 600 different
- 6:05cases involving mortgage fraud, and they found
- 6:08only 20 cases where people were lying about their
- 6:10primary residence, which is, like, the mode of
- 6:13how they're attacking here. And of those 20 cases,
- 6:16only one of them actually was only for lying
- 6:19about your permanent residence, so to have, like,
- 6:22five in a year is wild. One other reason to believe
- 6:24that they're weaponizing their Department of
- 6:26Justice is that Trump took to his own social
- 6:28network and posted as much. You may recall, September
- 6:31of 2025, he just kind of posted like, hey, then
- 6:35Attorney General Pam Bondi, go after my enemies.
- 6:39Just posted it on the Internet. Why do I do this?
- 6:43I'm not going to sit here and say the Biden Department
- 6:45of Justice was perfect. And like, yeah, they
- 6:47did investigate Trump, but also Trump did very
- 6:50visible crimes on live TV. We all watched that.
- 6:53And also, he's the president again, not a guy
- 6:56in a jail cell forever. So doesn't seem really
- 7:02equal. This also completely ignores, like, several
- 7:05other avenues that they're using to go after
- 7:07people at the Department of Justice, a la Ilan
- 7:09Omar, etc. The internet got real quiet. Or did
- 7:13it? Ukraine recently struck multiple Yandex data
- 7:16centers. Yandex is a Russian tech company, pretty
- 7:19analogous to Google. They do search indexing,
- 7:21they have a web infrastructure platform, it's
- 7:24basically Russian Google. So when Ukraine hit
- 7:27multiple of their data centers, taking out two
- 7:29of them and impairing one, It caused a bit of
- 7:32a spark online. It caused actually a bit of a
- 7:34spark in the data center, too, I'm sure. Right
- 7:36after the strike, people started noticing, in
- 7:38analytics charts, traffic from Russian bots plummeted.
- 7:42All around the internet, you could see graphs
- 7:43of Russian bot traffic just going to virtually
- 7:46zero after this was taken out, and people were
- 7:48talking about how, in various places around social
- 7:51media, it was clear that Russian bots were no
- 7:53longer spreading their disinformation, and we
- 7:55were all free from this menace, at least for
- 7:57now. It turns out that's... that's... That's
- 8:00not, that's not what happened. That's not what
- 8:03happened. Yes, dear listener, welcome to another
- 8:06instance of Stuff Keeps Happening presents fact
- 8:09-checking colon Endeavorance is a party pooper.
- 8:13It didn't sit well with me when I was looking
- 8:14at these charts and when I was reading about
- 8:16people saying that that these spaces were just
- 8:19no longer plagued with bots. I followed several
- 8:22people's recommendations to go check out different
- 8:24spaces online to see that bot activity had evaporated
- 8:27and it hadn't. I did a bit more digging, turns
- 8:30out, yeah, that's not really what happened. What
- 8:33actually happened is that Yandex is a tech infrastructure
- 8:37company and a search engine, and search engines
- 8:40need to have crawlers, bots that crawl along
- 8:42the internet to index all the web pages, in order
- 8:45to function. Google has this, it's called Googlebot,
- 8:48and pretty much any search engine that wants
- 8:50to index the internet has to do that. It's basically
- 8:53just a robot that goes to a webpage and then
- 8:55follows all the links on that webpage to other
- 8:57webpages, saves their content, indexes it, and
- 9:00then gives it back to you when you search for
- 9:02it. And so when a Yandex data center was taken
- 9:04out, Russian bot traffic plummeted. That statement
- 9:09is accurate, but, quote, Russian bot doesn't
- 9:12necessarily mean a active social media disinformation
- 9:15account. It just means non -human access of the
- 9:19internet. Now... Do I think that there were some
- 9:23bots that were taken out from this? Yeah. Russian,
- 9:26like the social media bots in this case. Yes.
- 9:29I do believe, like, there are an infrastructure
- 9:31company, right? There was likely some stuff that
- 9:34was hosted in their infrastructure for managing
- 9:36these bots, and perhaps some were disrupted.
- 9:39But at large, researchers who actually follow
- 9:41all of this stuff and track Russian bot networks,
- 9:44they said basically nothing happened. There may
- 9:46have been some cases where some places did see
- 9:49a drop, but at large there wasn't really an impact
- 9:52on the general posts of propaganda. I don't think
- 9:56this was like a malicious thing that people were
- 9:58spreading around. I think it's just, it's a really
- 10:00easy thing to internalize, right? Russian bot
- 10:02traffic drops after data center hit with Big
- 10:05Bomb, and everyone's constantly feeling like
- 10:08it's just oppressive to be online because it's
- 10:10just filled with crazy people who must be bots,
- 10:14and a lot of them absolutely are. So when we
- 10:17all start seeing these stories, it feels really
- 10:20validating, right? But just remember, when you
- 10:22see a story like this that feels like it just
- 10:24perfectly fits your narrative, take a step back,
- 10:27evaluate it. Way to be not usually that clear.
- 10:32This doesn't mean that Russia is not operating
- 10:34bot forms. We know they are. And it's not just
- 10:37Russia. It's a bunch of countries and us. But
- 10:41that's besides the point. Yo, teach them kids.
- 10:44France? Students across France are currently
- 10:47out in mass demonstrations demanding that their
- 10:49government better fund their school systems.
- 10:52With a backdrop of an economy that's not going
- 10:55in the right direction in France, students have
- 10:57also said, hey, my school's falling apart. It's
- 11:00too hot. There's not desks for me to use. And
- 11:05my class size is exploding. Teachers started
- 11:07this off, actually. They were banding together
- 11:10to start demanding for... better workplace environments
- 11:13and also, you know, better conditions for the
- 11:14kids. And then the students joined in. They set
- 11:17up barricades. They started to boycott classes
- 11:19and they've been demonstrating in the streets.
- 11:21And unfortunately, the response from authorities
- 11:24has been harsh. Riot gear, tear gas, rubber bullets,
- 11:27the works, stun grenades. One 15 year old recently
- 11:31lost their hand because of a stun grenade. French
- 11:33President Macron is not able to run for another
- 11:36consecutive term. And this past term has not
- 11:38been good for him, to put it mildly. Economic
- 11:42indicators in France are not strong right now,
- 11:44and after coming in as a person who is supposed
- 11:47to be able to fix the economy, it's not looking
- 11:49great for him. And unfortunately, far -right
- 11:52parties are using that against him. The centrist
- 11:54couldn't do it, so let's all just regress to
- 11:56the Dark Ages. The French government hasn't really
- 11:59given a meaningful response to the protesters
- 12:01at time of recording. They've said, we hear you
- 12:04and we'll work on it, but they've mostly just
- 12:07stopped using stun grenades on children for now.
- 12:11It's kind of as far as they've gotten. Otherwise,
- 12:13they're working towards tackling the problems.
- 12:16Hey, maybe fund your school system. Because we
- 12:21don't have that either. Like, if I can't have
- 12:24a country with a well -funded school system,
- 12:26you damn well better. Solidarity. I'm mad. Lightning
- 12:30round. Remotely controlled refrigerators at a
- 12:33French grocery chain were hacked and set to like
- 12:3650 degrees Celsius. Quite literally spoiling
- 12:39everyone's day. A Dutch eyewear retailer has
- 12:42banned Meadow's smart glasses because they're
- 12:43fucking creepy, and can record you, and can be
- 12:46modded to not have that light that's on while
- 12:48it's recording you. Anyway, Meadow's response
- 12:50was, cool, cool, cool, we get you. We'll get
- 12:51rid of the camera and just keep the microphone
- 12:53so that can record people, and we'll get rid
- 12:55of the indicator light that it's recording. Great
- 12:57job, guys. A man in California shot an off -duty
- 13:00ICE officer who was passed out drunk in his yard.
- 13:03He got up, he was belligerent, got shot. Should
- 13:06have complied. Seven coffins were found near
- 13:09the governor's residence in North Dakota. It
- 13:13apparently has to do with like an old graveyard
- 13:15that got moved a long time ago, but I think we
- 13:17should keep an open mind. Susan Collins in Maine
- 13:19is the Senate incumbent and she's running for
- 13:22re -election. A pack associated with her played
- 13:25ads in Portland, Oregon, attacking her opponent
- 13:29rather than Portland, Maine. That is on the other
- 13:31side of the country. And finally for today, a
- 13:33middle school student in Massachusetts which
- 13:35suspended after she was found with a replica
- 13:38death note that she had written several classmates'
- 13:40names in. It is on -brand, as far as Light Yagami
- 13:46goes, to be brazen like that. And also, the cops
- 13:50went to investigate it, and they're like, what
- 13:51is this? Is it dangerous? Like, yeah, I mean,
- 13:54maybe keeping even a joking kill list is a bad
- 13:57idea, but also the notion of a police department
- 14:00investigating a death note is hysterical. Thank
- 14:02you so much for listening to today's episode
- 14:04of Stuff Keeps Happening. Head to skh .news for
- 14:06sources, bonus content, and a copy of my actual
- 14:11Death Note. My name is Endeavorance, we'll talk
- 14:13again soon, take care, and be well.
