- 0:00Speaker 1: It's Susan Lucie everybody. Jeff Legwall joins us right now
- 0:04Speaker 1: here on the Craikman and Lindahl Show. Does he is
- 0:07Speaker 1: it just me? Or is on the twitch feet he
- 0:09Speaker 1: has an Elizabeth Taylor esque wash on his.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Cant Yeah, like, maybe wipe the lens. You've got like
- 0:15Speaker 2: a wild glow going on.
- 0:17Speaker 1: My man, it looks nice.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Yeah. Are you? Are you feeling healthy?
- 0:20Speaker 1: He's been d aged by.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:23Speaker 2: I feel like we're about to take it.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Remember glamour shots, Jeff, I'm getting those.
- 0:30Speaker 1: That's right, Uh, Leggy, Let's talk preseason game number two.
- 0:36Speaker 1: What questions that Sean Peyton and his staff had about
- 0:40Speaker 1: the roster? Do you think we arrived closer to a
- 0:43Speaker 1: conclusion on on Saturday Night?
- 0:46Speaker 3: I don't know if we're at a conclusion. You know,
- 0:48Speaker 3: I'll be intrigued to see, you know what it means
- 0:50Speaker 3: for playtime Saturday in New Orleans, because I mean, obviously
- 0:56Speaker 3: that'll tell a lot of the story. But I mean,
- 0:59Speaker 3: I think, you know, Tyler Badet seems to be nudging
- 1:03Speaker 3: his way in to one of the final spots at
- 1:08Speaker 3: running back. I think the defensive line. I think that
- 1:11Speaker 3: last spot is up for grabs maybe, And and I
- 1:15Speaker 3: think at safety in corner, they've got such depth they're
- 1:21Speaker 3: gonna be given. They're gonna be putting guys on waivers
- 1:24Speaker 3: that can play on other fifty three man rosters. And
- 1:28Speaker 3: you know that's a good sign, yes, but it will
- 1:31Speaker 3: make it will make their decisions pretty tough. And I
- 1:35Speaker 3: think some of their injured guys are at least going
- 1:37Speaker 3: to influence. You know, that initial fifty three may not
- 1:41Speaker 3: be what it is, you know, five days after that,
- 1:44Speaker 3: but I think the injuries they've had, you know, Drew Sanders,
- 1:49Speaker 3: Michael Burton, you know, I think that stuff, you know,
- 1:53Speaker 3: Nate Atkins, I think that impacts what that initial fifty
- 1:57Speaker 3: three looks like and what maybe it looks like two
- 2:00Speaker 3: weeks into September, all.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Right, is is Beday's still ahead of McLoughlin, Because again,
- 2:06Speaker 2: every time I watch McLoughlin plays, some electric happens. But
- 2:09Speaker 2: every time it feels like Seawn's talking. Everyone tells me
- 2:12Speaker 2: Bedey's ahead in the competition.
- 2:13Speaker 3: What do you think is going on with that little battle?
- 2:15Speaker 3: I've not had that feeling at all. I think McLoughlin
- 2:19Speaker 3: is the third running back. I think the day is
- 2:21Speaker 3: making a play for the for the fourth spot. Now,
- 2:25Speaker 3: you know, I think after Harvey and Dobbins, how you
- 2:29Speaker 3: number them doesn't really matter. They're the top two. I
- 2:32Speaker 3: think if you're one of the other running backs, you
- 2:35Speaker 3: just want one of those other two spots. Now, the
- 2:38Speaker 3: wild card is, you know, their fullback situation is you know,
- 2:45Speaker 3: the Atkins is injured, Burt is injured. So do they
- 2:48Speaker 3: keep five running backs initially? You know, in two weeks
- 2:51Speaker 3: from now, it's it looks different, That's what I mean.
- 2:54Speaker 3: I think, I think this fifty three when at cutdown day,
- 2:59Speaker 3: isn't gonna be the fifty three, you know, for very long.
- 3:02Speaker 3: And I think some of its injury and some of
- 3:04Speaker 3: it is they're gonna want to jockey some things around
- 3:08Speaker 3: with the practice squad.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Jeff Lakewald with us on the ramos Law Hotline car accident.
- 3:12Speaker 1: You do need ramos Law medical doctor and attorney. Visit
- 3:15Speaker 1: ramos Law dot com.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Jeff.
- 3:17Speaker 1: It's fantasy football drafting season. Everybody needs to know a label. Therefore,
- 3:22Speaker 1: I will ask you a label related question. Is Troy
- 3:26Speaker 1: Franklin the Broncos w R two right now?
- 3:31Speaker 3: I don't know that they have one. You know, he's
- 3:36Speaker 3: you know, probably that potential. I wouldn't say that right now.
- 3:39Speaker 3: I still believe because of the route diversity and the
- 3:43Speaker 3: snaps he could play that Mims would be that. But
- 3:49Speaker 3: Franklin is playing multiple positions this year, which he did
- 3:52Speaker 3: not last year, So that gives you the opportunity to
- 3:56Speaker 3: be on the field more so if if you're doing
- 3:58Speaker 3: those fantasy football drafts, you know Franklin will have the
- 4:04Speaker 3: opportunity for more snaps than he did last year because
- 4:07Speaker 3: he's playing more spots in the in the in the scheme.
- 4:11Speaker 3: So but I don't think he's too right now. And
- 4:15Speaker 3: I still think Evan Ingram is WR two. But even
- 4:20Speaker 3: though he's a tight end, all right.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Who else do you think has made a strong case
- 4:25Speaker 2: and maybe surprise them by this point in camp? Or
- 4:28Speaker 2: is there a guy?
- 4:29Speaker 3: I don't think they have a surprise. I mean I
- 4:32Speaker 3: think that, you know, I think they had a good
- 4:35Speaker 3: understanding of the team they had and they knew these
- 4:38Speaker 3: you know, the bottom of the back end of the
- 4:41Speaker 3: depth chart on the fifty three at every position was
- 4:44Speaker 3: gonna be a lot tougher decision this year, Like you know,
- 4:48Speaker 3: in the defensive line, they're gonna release somebody likely who
- 4:52Speaker 3: has played real football in real games. Uh, that's gonna
- 4:56Speaker 3: be tough. They may release the safety. Uh that's played
- 5:00Speaker 3: real football in real games. I mean, that's that's what
- 5:03Speaker 3: they're they're looking at this year, and I think the
- 5:05Speaker 3: difficulty is something they're happy about, but something they're going
- 5:09Speaker 3: to be frustrated with when they do have to expose
- 5:12Speaker 3: players they'd like to keep. My personal surprise is is, uh,
- 5:18Speaker 3: you know, Estimate, I I really don't see him getting
- 5:22Speaker 3: a lot of good snaps or good opportunities to show
- 5:26Speaker 3: what he can do. When you know, when he kept
- 5:29Speaker 3: saying all off season, all I want to see him,
- 5:32Speaker 3: I want to get those opportunities. But I think the
- 5:34Speaker 3: other guys have have just done more. You know, when
- 5:38Speaker 3: they get one or two carries, they make something happen.
- 5:42Speaker 3: And when Estimate has gotten one or two carries, there's
- 5:45Speaker 3: been a lot of times there's been a penalty or
- 5:47Speaker 3: he he doesn't quite see the whole initially. You know
- 5:51Speaker 3: that he's more of a flow runner, and you're not
- 5:54Speaker 3: getting the opportunity to build up that flow and and
- 5:58Speaker 3: get into a game. He in this kind of situation,
- 6:02Speaker 3: if you get eight plays, you've got to make impact
- 6:04Speaker 3: on on you know, a majority of them. You can't
- 6:08Speaker 3: be that boy on the eleventh to thirteenth play, I
- 6:12Speaker 3: would have been really good. You've got to make it happen.
- 6:15Speaker 3: And you know, I think he'll probably get some snaps
- 6:18Speaker 3: in New Orleans at least, that's my feeling right now.
- 6:21Speaker 3: But if he doesn't, that's an indication you just didn't
- 6:25Speaker 3: want him to get hurt.
- 6:27Speaker 1: I prefer flow rider to a flow runner. We're talking
- 6:29Speaker 1: to Jeff Legwald here of ESPN. Leggie, as you evaluated
- 6:34Speaker 1: the play of the offensive line the other night, how
- 6:37Speaker 1: are we feeling right now about the Broncos offensive line depth.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I think they're okay with it. Nate, and I
- 6:44Speaker 3: think the you know, he said it after the game,
- 6:47Speaker 3: Sean Payton, the pre snap penalties are not a good thing. Yeah,
- 6:51Speaker 3: that's that's the kind of stuff that are drive killers.
- 6:54Speaker 3: You know, second and second and fifteen or you know,
- 6:57Speaker 3: you you lose a huge play because but he you know,
- 7:01Speaker 3: it doesn't even get going because he had you know,
- 7:04Speaker 3: somebody jumps off side at the pre snap stuff is
- 7:07Speaker 3: that's not a good look. And you know, at one
- 7:09Speaker 3: point they had I think seven pre snap penalties at
- 7:14Speaker 3: one point, and that's just uh.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Keeps getting dinged LEGGI man, he's been having a tough
- 7:20Speaker 1: time out there.
- 7:22Speaker 3: I think he's had at least four penalties in the
- 7:24Speaker 3: preseason and that's that's not awesome. And some of it is.
- 7:29Speaker 3: You know, he's at the position where the point of
- 7:31Speaker 3: emphasis from the officials, you know, the depth of the
- 7:34Speaker 3: tackle when you're leaving all of these things. These guys
- 7:37Speaker 3: have been trained to sort of cut the corner and
- 7:42Speaker 3: get the head start and suddenly a penalty. He seems
- 7:46Speaker 3: to be adjusting a little more slowly than some of
- 7:48Speaker 3: the other guys are.
- 7:49Speaker 2: He's surprised by the camp of Pat Bryant. I mean,
- 7:52Speaker 2: the guy, the guy looks really good. How much do
- 7:54Speaker 2: you think he'll transfer to when he's playing the real
- 7:56Speaker 2: defenses or is some of this preseason football.
- 8:00Speaker 3: A little both? And you I mean, I think you
- 8:03Speaker 3: know he he he was good at the things that
- 8:08Speaker 3: are tough adjustments for the NFL for some guys, you know,
- 8:12Speaker 3: the physicality, the contested catches, defensive backs just up in
- 8:18Speaker 3: your face a lot more than they are in college.
- 8:21Speaker 3: He was already good at that, and I think that's
- 8:24Speaker 3: transitioned him. And as they talked about when they picked him,
- 8:29Speaker 3: if you're a receiver and you can create clean releases
- 8:34Speaker 3: off the line of scrimmage, you're gonna get the ball
- 8:36Speaker 3: a lot. And he does that. You know, his his
- 8:41Speaker 3: top end speed is not what wide receiver coaches or
- 8:45Speaker 3: general managers would love, but his release is his top
- 8:49Speaker 3: level and that that makes up for some of that.
- 8:52Speaker 3: So when you get the ball to him quickly, when
- 8:55Speaker 3: he has the root, when he's created the space, he's
- 8:58Speaker 3: going to produce for. And I think if they keep
- 9:02Speaker 3: finding the routes that get in the ball in those situations,
- 9:06Speaker 3: I think he will produce in this offense.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Jeff leg Well brought to you by the International Brotherhood
- 9:10Speaker 1: of Electrical Workers IBW Local sixty eight. Start with the
- 9:13Speaker 1: job and with a career the man slinging the rock
- 9:16Speaker 1: to Pat Bryant, Jared Stidham having himself a hell of
- 9:19Speaker 1: a preseason so far. Here, Leggy, are some guys just
- 9:25Speaker 1: better suited to knowing exactly what the role is going
- 9:28Speaker 1: to be. Like did Stidy lock up in a competition
- 9:32Speaker 1: but now with a free ride to be the backup
- 9:36Speaker 1: quarterback of the Denver Broncos. He's just comfortable and going
- 9:40Speaker 1: out and slinging the rock and balling. Is this a
- 9:43Speaker 1: good look for Jared Stidham.
- 9:45Speaker 3: I think so. I mean, I'm not sure he locked up.
- 9:47Speaker 3: I think it was more of both of them during
- 9:51Speaker 3: the quarterback competition last year valued not making a mistake
- 9:56Speaker 3: over making plays. And so that's what it's going to
- 9:59Speaker 3: look like. Uh, you know it's gonna look like, you know,
- 10:02Speaker 3: as they would jeer at both of them, Charlie check down.
- 10:06Speaker 3: You know, it's if you make the value don't screw
- 10:10Speaker 3: up is a higher value than making a big play,
- 10:14Speaker 3: then that's what you're gonna get. Yeah, he he does
- 10:17Speaker 3: not have those restraints in this situation. You know, he
- 10:22Speaker 3: can just let it loose. And at this point in
- 10:25Speaker 3: his career, he's just more proficient than the guys he's facing.
- 10:30Speaker 3: I mean, you're talking a guy who's played for two
- 10:33Speaker 3: of the toughest coaches in football to learn quarterbacking, and
- 10:39Speaker 3: he's facing reserves on defense, and you know, that's low
- 10:44Speaker 3: hanging fruit. And to the two to what three hundred
- 10:47Speaker 3: and seventy six yards and four touchdowns and three and
- 10:50Speaker 3: a half quarters.
- 10:51Speaker 1: No picks, that's pretty good.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean he's just more proficient at this point
- 10:56Speaker 3: in his career, which is frankly, if you didn't see
- 10:59Speaker 3: that from their backup quarterback, you'd be a little concerned.
- 11:02Speaker 3: You know. If if he isn't ringing up big numbers,
- 11:06Speaker 3: then that's a problem, and a big one. So I
- 11:10Speaker 3: think they're very happy with the pressure free Jared Stidham
- 11:15Speaker 3: winging it around and looking very good.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Yes, he is certainly impressed thus far. Jeff Legwald, everybody
- 11:21Speaker 1: of ESPN read his stuff at espn dot com and
- 11:24Speaker 1: listen to him on the correct Ben and Lindahl Show
- 11:26Speaker 1: every Monday and Friday afternoon. Leggy, well done, Thank you,
- 11:31Speaker 1: Big Balance.
