SPEAKER_00: Can you say we're having a little rough start this morning?
• 0:09
  SPEAKER_01: It's okay.
• 0:10
  SPEAKER_00: Is it okay?
• 0:11
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 0:11
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 0:12
SPEAKER_00: Hey, this is your place for all things automotive, the award-winning In-Wheel Time Car Talk Show.
• 0:18
SPEAKER_00: Recalls, guess what the car sold for, and more.
• 0:22
SPEAKER_00: Later, Mars has this week in auto history.
• 0:24
SPEAKER_00: Jeff has the racing calendar, and I'll get you caught up on the stories making automotive news headlines if I don't blow that too.
• 0:30
SPEAKER_00: Howdy, along with Mike Out of This World Mars from Neederville, Texas.
• 0:34
SPEAKER_00: We always need more Jeff Zeke.
• 0:36
  SPEAKER_00: Chief Engineer David Ainsley.
• 0:38
  SPEAKER_00: I'm Don Armstrong.
• 0:39
SPEAKER_00: Glad you could join us on this rodeo parade Saturday in Houston, Texas.
• 0:44
  SPEAKER_00: Expect the weather's clear.
• 0:46
  SPEAKER_00: Yep.
• 0:48
SPEAKER_00: And um it ought to be a beautiful day, a beautiful night to go get plastered out at the rodeo barbecue.
• 0:56
SPEAKER_00: Careful, you might get shoes.
• 0:58
SPEAKER_00: Have you ever been to the rodeo barbecue?
• 1:00
  SPEAKER_00: Long, long time ago.
• 1:01
SPEAKER_00: You know, I was at the actual very first one, and Bum Phillips was the honorary uh judge, if you will.
• 1:09
SPEAKER_00: And that's how long ago that was.
• 1:11
SPEAKER_00: But uh there were no tents.
• 1:12
SPEAKER_00: It was out in the Astro World parking lot.
• 1:15
SPEAKER_00: And um compared to today, there's million-dollar tents.
• 1:20
  SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
• 1:20
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they spend a lot of money in it.
• 1:23
SPEAKER_00: You know, there's all the big oil companies and yes.
• 1:25
  SPEAKER_00: All that.
• 1:26
SPEAKER_00: Let's do the recall, shall we?
• 1:27
  SPEAKER_00: Oh, let's do that.
• 1:28
SPEAKER_00: Uh letting your car's gas tank run on near-empty is usually a red flag, but following a new recall, doing so may actually be safer.
• 1:36
SPEAKER_00: According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the 2026 Subaru Cross Trek Hybrid and the 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid have a fault with their fuel tanks that could cause a fire, and owners are encouraged to park outside until the Japanese automaker addresses it next month.
• 1:56
SPEAKER_00: Let's not address it now, let's address it next month.
• 1:59
SPEAKER_00: So you after you burn your house down.
• 2:05
SPEAKER_00: Sixty-nine thousand one hundred and fifty-three vehicles over the two nameplates are affected.
• 2:09
SPEAKER_00: To avoid risk, it's best not to fill the gas tank to capacity.
• 2:13
  SPEAKER_00: Oh.
• 2:14
SPEAKER_00: Unfortunately, this will be a relatively easy fix as the electrified part of the powertrain is not to blame for this recall.
• 2:20
SPEAKER_00: Let's take a more detailed look at the problem and how Subaru intends to resolve it.
• 2:27
SPEAKER_00: Next week, same time, same bet channel.
• 2:29
SPEAKER_02: It's relatively easy to fix, but we're gonna wait a month.
• 2:32
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 2:35
SPEAKER_01: Well, gas burns, it's the it's the liquid of gas burns, but the gas of gas explodes.
• 2:41
SPEAKER_00: So yeah, dunes explode fire it up.
• 2:44
  SPEAKER_00: Right.
• 2:44
  SPEAKER_00: You know what?
• 2:45
SPEAKER_00: I think I'd park the car and get me a rent car and you know, let somebody else pay money back.
• 2:50
SPEAKER_00: Ford said Thursday it's recalling 4.3 million pickup trucks and SUVs in the US.
• 2:56
SPEAKER_00: 4.3 million because a software error may cause trailer brakes not to function and exterior lights to fail.
• 3:04
SPEAKER_00: You you've seen it driving down the road at night, and there's a car that doesn't have any lights on whatsoever.
• 3:10
SPEAKER_00: How do they get away with that?
• 3:11
SPEAKER_00: Can you not tell that you don't have lights on?
• 3:13
SPEAKER_00: People are going by honking the horn and flashing the lights.
• 3:17
  SPEAKER_00: I don't know what's wrong.
• 3:19
  SPEAKER_00: U.S.
• 3:19
SPEAKER_00: Automaker said the recall covers 2021 through 2026, Ford F-150, 2022 to 26 250s, uh Super Duty, uh, Lincoln Navigator, Expedition, Maverick, along with some Ranger and E-Transit vehicles.
• 3:38
SPEAKER_00: When towing a trailer, the integrated trailer module may lose communication with the vehicle, potentially causing a loss of brake and turn signal lights or a loss of brake function.
• 3:48
SPEAKER_00: Ford will address the issue with an over-the-year software update.
• 3:52
SPEAKER_00: Other recalls include engine failure and the Nissan Rogue 23 to 25.
• 3:58
  SPEAKER_00: Yikes.
• 4:01
SPEAKER_00: Um I think my daughter has a Nissan Rogue, and I think it falls into that category.
• 4:08
SPEAKER_00: She hasn't any problems with it.
• 4:10
SPEAKER_00: Uh, gears in the electronic throttle body may break in the Nissan Rogue 24 to 25.
• 4:17
SPEAKER_00: Rear view camera may fail, yes.
• 4:20
SPEAKER_01: Gears in electronics, that's opposites.
• 4:24
SPEAKER_01: Gears in an electronic device.
• 4:27
  SPEAKER_01: That just baffles me.
• 4:29
SPEAKER_00: Did you want me to comment on that?
• 4:30
SPEAKER_00: No, I'm just trying to figure out why would you have gears in an electronic device?
• 4:34
SPEAKER_00: Well, it's gears in the electronic throttle body.
• 4:37
  SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
• 4:38
  SPEAKER_02: Throttle body itself.
• 4:39
  SPEAKER_02: All right.
• 4:39
  SPEAKER_02: Okay.
• 4:40
SPEAKER_00: Uh rear view camera fail, Cadillac Lyric, 2024.
• 4:44
  SPEAKER_00: No.
• 4:44
SPEAKER_00: Rear wheel lockup from the transmission control valve failure.
• 4:48
  SPEAKER_01: No.
• 4:48
  SPEAKER_00: Shelby Silverado, 1500, 2500, 3500.
• 4:52
  SPEAKER_00: GMC Sierra, 15, 25, 3500.
• 4:55
  SPEAKER_00: 2020 to 2022.
• 5:00
SPEAKER_00: And rear wheel lockup from transmission control valve valve failure and the Cadillac Escalade and the ESV, the Suburban, the Tahoe, the Yukon, and the UCorn XL 2022 model year.
• 5:13
SPEAKER_00: And finally, Lexus LX 25 and 26, loss of drive power from transmission damage.
• 5:20
  SPEAKER_00: That is uh unusual.
• 5:22
SPEAKER_00: It is unusual because they never have any vehicle.
• 5:24
SPEAKER_00: And that's what we would talk about some of that.
• 5:26
SPEAKER_02: So damage, I mean transmission damage.
• 5:28
SPEAKER_00: All it says is damage.
• 5:29
  SPEAKER_00: I didn't drill down into it.
• 5:30
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 5:31
SPEAKER_00: It could be, you know, damage from a toenail that popped up and hit it in the bottom.
• 5:35
  SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
• 5:36
SPEAKER_01: That would be a uh toenail, isn't that the uh European vehicle?
• 5:41
  SPEAKER_01: That that's exactly right.
• 5:42
  SPEAKER_01: That's the alpha rome.
• 5:43
  SPEAKER_01: Alpha Romeo.
• 5:43
  SPEAKER_01: Alpha Romeo toenail.
• 5:44
SPEAKER_01: So you hit an alpha romeo.
• 5:46
SPEAKER_02: So yeah, it's it's a little shorter, so it's kind of clear it's pretty easy.
• 5:51
  SPEAKER_01: That's a low sports car there.
• 5:53
  SPEAKER_01: All right.
• 5:55
SPEAKER_00: Oh are we are we ready?
• 5:58
SPEAKER_00: Are we ready for the sold cars roundup at Hemmings?
• 6:01
SPEAKER_00: We can get that way, really.
• 6:03
SPEAKER_00: It is time for you to uh join us in in the fun and laughter of this.
• 6:08
SPEAKER_00: So these cars were sold through Hemmings.com week before last.
• 6:13
SPEAKER_00: And um, so we decided to pick a few of them and see if you know what this car was sold for.
• 6:18
  SPEAKER_00: You are Karnak.
• 6:19
  SPEAKER_00: Uh Carnak.
• 6:21
  SPEAKER_00: That's exactly right.
• 6:21
SPEAKER_00: So here now, the first one up is a 1981 Chevrolet Corvette.
• 6:27
  SPEAKER_00: Oh.
• 6:28
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 6:29
  SPEAKER_00: 81 Corvette.
• 6:30
  SPEAKER_00: I like it.
• 6:31
SPEAKER_00: What do you think that this car sold for?
• 6:33
SPEAKER_00: Now, let me just say this before you guess, because I would not guess this price.
• 6:38
SPEAKER_00: Let me put it that way.
• 6:39
  SPEAKER_00: And I had a 77, which is a C3 also.
• 6:43
SPEAKER_00: Uh, it sold for more than that.
• 6:45
SPEAKER_00: So my guess is this has got a complete restoration or that's got an LS engine swap.
• 6:50
SPEAKER_00: Something is special with it.
• 6:51
SPEAKER_00: So it's above what it would normally be, and that's$7,000 or$8,000 or something stupid because it had no horsepower.
• 6:58
SPEAKER_00: Anyway, so this is an 81 Chevy Corvette.
• 7:01
SPEAKER_00: What did it sell for?
• 7:02
  SPEAKER_00: I say 32.
• 7:04
  SPEAKER_00: We've got some folks.
• 7:05
SPEAKER_02: So so David says 50.
• 7:08
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 7:08
  SPEAKER_02: Jeff says 20.
• 7:10
  SPEAKER_02: Jeff Heitman says 25.
• 7:12
  SPEAKER_00: Yes.
• 7:13
SPEAKER_00: George not with us today.
• 7:15
SPEAKER_02: Uh he was, but I haven't seen him come in here yet.
• 7:19
SPEAKER_02: He's trying to find all those nines.
• 7:21
  SPEAKER_00: Yes, exactly.
• 7:23
SPEAKER_00: Well, this 81 Chevy Corvette sold for$42,000.
• 7:27
SPEAKER_00: Somebody must have been out of their mind restoring this car.
• 7:31
SPEAKER_00: I thought they've got to do that.
• 7:32
SPEAKER_00: They're doing whatever modifications that were.
• 7:34
  SPEAKER_00: It is pretty.
• 7:34
  SPEAKER_00: It's a good-looking car.
• 7:36
SPEAKER_02: No, the first out of their mind was who gave that much for that car.
• 7:39
  SPEAKER_00: Well, there's that.
• 7:40
  SPEAKER_00: That's true, too.
• 7:41
  SPEAKER_02: Next up, another Corvette.
• 7:43
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 7:44
  SPEAKER_00: Right.
• 7:44
SPEAKER_00: This and my suggestion to you on this one would be don't overdo it, okay?
• 7:50
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 7:51
  SPEAKER_00: All right.
• 7:51
SPEAKER_00: So this is a convertible with those very, very ugly luggage rack on the back of it, which should take about$10,000 off.
• 7:59
SPEAKER_00: 1990 Chevy Corvette convertible, yellow.
• 8:03
  SPEAKER_00: Um, this would be a C4.
• 8:06
SPEAKER_00: And so silver car price is what?
• 8:08
SPEAKER_00: What would you guess this sold car price?
• 8:11
  SPEAKER_02: It's got black.
• 8:12
SPEAKER_02: What are those black wheels on it?
• 8:15
  SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna go 22.
• 8:16
  SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna go 22.
• 8:17
SPEAKER_01: And that would be a car you'd see in Florida.
• 8:20
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you're right, yeah, exactly right.
• 8:22
  SPEAKER_02: So David's coming in at 17.
• 8:26
  SPEAKER_02: So Mr.
• 8:27
SPEAKER_02: Heitman thinks it's worth a little bit more.
• 8:29
  SPEAKER_02: He thinks it's worth about 30,000.
• 8:33
  SPEAKER_02: 31, yeah.
• 8:34
SPEAKER_01: What do you think, Jeff?
• 8:35
  SPEAKER_01: 22.
• 8:36
  SPEAKER_00: I mean, I guess 22.
• 8:37
SPEAKER_00: Well, um, as I said in my preamble, um, don't overthink this because it sold for 13,440.
• 8:45
SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say it's probably like four grand.
• 8:47
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, 14,440.
• 8:49
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that doesn't appear.
• 8:51
SPEAKER_00: But yeah, that's about right.
• 8:52
SPEAKER_00: That that's on the money, I guess.
• 8:53
  SPEAKER_00: I guess.
• 8:54
SPEAKER_00: If you take sir, I'll buy that car for 13 if you'll take the luggage rack off.
• 8:59
  SPEAKER_00: Anyway, here we go.
• 9:01
SPEAKER_00: Uh next up is the 1987 Oldsmobile 442.
• 9:07
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 9:08
  SPEAKER_00: With uh T Tops.
• 9:10
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, T Tops.
• 9:11
  SPEAKER_00: That's a good looking car.
• 9:12
SPEAKER_00: It is a good looking car.
• 9:13
  SPEAKER_01: Factory wheels.
• 9:14
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 9:14
  SPEAKER_01: Uh I'm gonna go 18.
• 9:17
  SPEAKER_01: 18.
• 9:18
  SPEAKER_01: Okay.
• 9:19
SPEAKER_00: Who else is uh bidding on this one?
• 9:21
SPEAKER_00: Looks like it's well kept.
• 9:23
SPEAKER_02: Everybody's in shock over the last one.
• 9:26
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they are.
• 9:28
SPEAKER_00: Uh I guess that the you know the last one is just goes to prove that you can buy a pretty cool car.
• 9:34
SPEAKER_00: I mean, it is a Corvette, um, for affordable cash money.
• 9:39
SPEAKER_00: So this one, what do you think?
• 9:41
SPEAKER_00: Jeff, what did you say?
• 9:42
SPEAKER_01: I said uh what did I say?
• 9:44
  SPEAKER_01: 17.
• 9:44
  SPEAKER_01: 17, yeah.
• 9:45
  SPEAKER_01: I think you said 17.
• 9:46
  SPEAKER_02: Heitman says 19.
• 9:47
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 9:48
  SPEAKER_02: David says 15.
• 9:50
  SPEAKER_00: And it sold for 25, 620.
• 9:54
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 9:54
SPEAKER_00: Which is kind of surprising to me.
• 9:56
  SPEAKER_00: It's a little high, but yeah.
• 9:57
SPEAKER_00: It gets me really good shape.
• 9:59
  SPEAKER_00: Clean interior.
• 10:00
SPEAKER_00: It's got a low mileage on it, yeah.
• 10:02
  SPEAKER_01: 455 in it.
• 10:04
  SPEAKER_00: Um, here's one.
• 10:05
  SPEAKER_00: Oh uh now.
• 10:06
  SPEAKER_00: This is a 1968 Ford Bronco.
• 10:10
SPEAKER_00: Whoever took the picture, they took it in the shade, and that's not how you take a picture of a car.
• 10:14
  SPEAKER_00: 1968 Ford Bronco.
• 10:19
SPEAKER_00: Now it appears that it does not have uh uh hardtop on it.
• 10:23
  SPEAKER_00: It comes with it.
• 10:24
  SPEAKER_00: Maybe it does, I don't know.
• 10:25
SPEAKER_02: But this one does not have one on it, that's for sure.
• 10:28
SPEAKER_00: So uh how much do you think that this thing sold for?
• 10:31
  SPEAKER_00: 40.
• 10:32
  SPEAKER_00: 40.
• 10:32
  SPEAKER_00: Jeff says 40.
• 10:34
SPEAKER_00: Um what is what are other bidders think that that sold for?
• 10:39
  SPEAKER_00: Heitzman says 14.
• 10:41
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's obviously been lifted, got some big tires wheels on it.
• 10:44
  SPEAKER_01: I'm assuming it's been redone somehow.
• 10:46
  SPEAKER_01: Uh-oh, David 65.
• 10:48
SPEAKER_01: So we're all over the board on this one.
• 10:50
  SPEAKER_00: Okay, you ready?
• 10:50
SPEAKER_00: Sold car price is 52.5.
• 10:53
  SPEAKER_00: David Gwyn.
• 10:54
  SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah.
• 10:55
SPEAKER_01: So we had to throw a foreigner in here.
• 10:57
  SPEAKER_01: I can have it.
• 10:58
  SPEAKER_00: This is a 1966 Triumph TR4A.
• 11:04
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 11:06
  SPEAKER_00: This is okay.
• 11:07
  SPEAKER_00: So there it is.
• 11:08
SPEAKER_00: Uh, you know, back in the day, this was a cool entry from the Brits.
• 11:14
  SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
• 11:15
SPEAKER_00: And uh it's a TR4, and um, it looks clean, it looks original.
• 11:21
SPEAKER_00: It's got a very ugly white top that doesn't match the paint.
• 11:24
SPEAKER_00: I think I'd make a black top, but whatever.
• 11:27
SPEAKER_00: Looks like it also has a red interior.
• 11:29
SPEAKER_00: Driving on nice days without a top.
• 11:30
  SPEAKER_00: Oh, there you go.
• 11:31
  SPEAKER_00: There you go.
• 11:31
SPEAKER_00: So, how much do you think that's sold for?
• 11:33
  SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go 28.
• 11:34
  SPEAKER_00: 28?
• 11:35
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 11:35
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 11:36
  SPEAKER_00: It's not a bug eye.
• 11:38
SPEAKER_02: No, it's not a bug eye, but uh Mr.
• 11:39
  SPEAKER_00: Heitzman says 22.
• 11:41
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 11:43
  SPEAKER_00: Who else?
• 11:45
SPEAKER_02: David Lusk thinks it's uh more luck of around 33.
• 11:49
  SPEAKER_02: 33.5.
• 11:50
  SPEAKER_00: Well, he was close.
• 11:51
SPEAKER_00: 26 250 is what it sold for for a 66 car that you know.
• 11:58
SPEAKER_00: Needs a little help, needs a little love.
• 12:00
SPEAKER_00: It does need a little love.
• 12:01
SPEAKER_00: Needs a little rubbing on.
• 12:02
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 12:03
  SPEAKER_01: Uh oh.
• 12:05
  SPEAKER_01: What's that?
• 12:06
  SPEAKER_01: Ooh, it's a square bottom.
• 12:08
SPEAKER_01: You would know more about this one, Mike, than me.
• 12:10
  SPEAKER_01: You go first.
• 12:11
  SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's you got the 1985 GMC three-quarter ton, 2500.
• 12:18
  SPEAKER_00: $7,000.
• 12:19
  SPEAKER_01: Really?
• 12:20
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 12:22
  SPEAKER_01: Wow.
• 12:22
  SPEAKER_01: Long bat.
• 12:24
SPEAKER_02: So I have to tell you, so uh David Lust thinks it's worth a little bit more than that, but I was really surprised that this showed up as uh in this in for sale on Hemings.
• 12:35
  SPEAKER_02: I mean, this is a three-quarter ton, basically stock-looking truck.
• 12:39
SPEAKER_00: Yes, except for those ugly running boards.
• 12:41
SPEAKER_00: Those need to go away.
• 12:42
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but those are old school.
• 12:44
SPEAKER_02: Probably whenever that truck came out, that's probably it.
• 12:47
  SPEAKER_00: 85, it could be.
• 12:49
  SPEAKER_00: I'm not I don't know.
• 12:50
SPEAKER_00: How much did that sell for, Jeff?
• 12:53
  SPEAKER_00: I said seven.
• 12:54
  SPEAKER_00: 7,000?
• 12:55
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 12:55
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 12:56
SPEAKER_02: I was at 10 and David Lusk is at 23.
• 12:59
SPEAKER_00: Well, David Lusk wins because it sold for 2510.
• 13:02
  SPEAKER_01: Oh, there you go.
• 13:04
SPEAKER_00: It looks clean, it looks stock.
• 13:06
SPEAKER_00: It's even got dog dish hubcaps on it, the whole nine yards.
• 13:08
  SPEAKER_00: Okay, next up.
• 13:10
SPEAKER_00: Let's go back to the other side of the drink.
• 13:12
  SPEAKER_00: 1973 BMW 3.0 CS.
• 13:16

• 17:29
SPEAKER_01: And what we got going on is today uh at 3 p.m.
• 17:32
SPEAKER_01: on the CW is going to be the uh O'Reilly series.
• 17:38
SPEAKER_01: Uh and then what we had yesterday, actually it's today.
• 17:42
SPEAKER_01: Wait, let me back up.
• 17:43
SPEAKER_01: I got my series mixed up here, Don.
• 17:45
SPEAKER_01: So we got Craftsman Truck going on today at noon on Fox.
• 17:49
  SPEAKER_01: Then at 3 p.m.
• 17:50
  SPEAKER_01: today.
• 17:51
SPEAKER_00: The news is on Fox today.
• 17:52
  SPEAKER_01: Fox local.
• 17:54
  SPEAKER_01: I know it's just Fox Local.
• 17:56
SPEAKER_01: Uh and then you've got on the CW today at three is the O'Reilly series.
• 18:00
  SPEAKER_01: That's what I got confused.
• 18:01
SPEAKER_01: And then, of course, tomorrow you got the Big Boys the Cup series going on at Coda that starts at 3 30, and that is also on Fox.
• 18:08
SPEAKER_01: So without any more confusion, we've got the Indie series starting today in St.
• 18:13
  SPEAKER_01: Petersburg.
• 18:13
SPEAKER_01: I watched a little bit of the qualifying and the practices and all that.
• 18:16
SPEAKER_01: Struggle a little bit because it rained.
• 18:18
SPEAKER_01: The truck series was rained out yesterday because the truck series and the uh indie open wheel series is in St.
• 18:24
  SPEAKER_01: Petersburg.
• 18:25
SPEAKER_01: So the truck race got rained out.
• 18:26
SPEAKER_01: Uh they're gonna do the indie open wheel, and that's going to be March 1st, which is Sunday as well.
• 18:32
SPEAKER_01: Then you got NHRA coming up very soon, a couple of weeks.
• 18:35
SPEAKER_01: Gator, Gainesville for the Gator Nationals.
• 18:38
SPEAKER_01: That's gonna be fun to watch.
• 18:39
  SPEAKER_01: Formula One.
• 18:40
  SPEAKER_01: Let's talk about that.
• 18:41
  SPEAKER_01: They're struggling.
• 18:42
SPEAKER_01: All the new car for Formula One, they're having their challenges with it and all the tests that were going on in Bahrain and all that good stuff.
• 18:48
SPEAKER_01: But it starts March 7th, which is next weekend, and that's going to be in Australia.
• 18:52
SPEAKER_01: It's the Australian Grand Prix.
• 18:54
SPEAKER_01: Uh, good luck to Cadillac.
• 18:55
SPEAKER_01: We're pulling for you, and we'll see you there.
• 18:58
  SPEAKER_01: All right.
• 18:59
  SPEAKER_01: Thank you, sir.
• 19:00
SPEAKER_00: Uh, time now for uh this week in auto history, Mr.
• 19:03
  SPEAKER_02: Bars.
• 19:04
  SPEAKER_02: Yes, sir.
• 19:05
SPEAKER_02: We found a few things this week that are uh I thought were rather interesting.
• 19:09
SPEAKER_02: And uh in 1893, Rudolf Diesel, there was really a guy named Diesel, he got his first patent on the Diesel engine.
• 19:16
SPEAKER_02: Now, this is really important, and and of course the difference is it doesn't use a spark plug like a regular gasoline engine.
• 19:22
SPEAKER_02: It actually takes and uh uses high compression to create all the to instead of a fire to start it.
• 19:29
SPEAKER_02: And it's became it's really important because it became the backbone of all of our commercial trucking, our railroads, cargo ships, agriculture, military.
• 19:37
SPEAKER_02: I mean it's the diesel shows up everywhere, even in cars for high fuel.
• 19:41
  SPEAKER_00: And even in Neeterville.
• 19:43
  SPEAKER_02: Even in Neeterville.
• 19:44
SPEAKER_02: We got one or two over here when the train comes through.
• 19:46
SPEAKER_02: Then in 1901, the Oldsmobile started producing the curved runabout.
• 19:53
SPEAKER_02: Now, this is important because it was truly the first mass-produced automobile.
• 19:58
SPEAKER_02: It wasn't just another car because it started the idea of using standardized parts and uh early assembly line techniques, which obviously fed into Ford's assembly line and all the wonderful things that he created regarding mass production.
• 20:14
SPEAKER_02: Now, then in 1915, this is important to you guys over there.
• 20:19
SPEAKER_02: First electric traffic signal was put in Houston.
• 20:22
SPEAKER_02: Now they did have traffic signals, but they were manually manned, literally, guys standing in these little towers changing the light colors to uh control the traffic.
• 20:32
  SPEAKER_00: That's Don Armstrong, isn't there?
• 20:34
SPEAKER_00: That's he is, you know.
• 20:35
SPEAKER_02: He's waving at all his fans as they go by.
• 20:38
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and a toll booth.
• 20:41
  SPEAKER_02: Just about.
• 20:42
SPEAKER_02: But anyway, so they brought in the electric lights, and so this is what provided the consistency for traffic flow.
• 20:47
SPEAKER_00: It'd be better if we had that today.
• 20:51
  SPEAKER_02: That's not a bad idea.
• 20:52
  SPEAKER_02: Oh, they can't.
• 20:52
SPEAKER_02: Especially over there where you all have the little trains.
• 20:55
SPEAKER_02: And um, so anyway, it also meant that they could also take all the officers off those street intersections and put them to doing other things that were more important than traffic than traffic control.
• 21:06
SPEAKER_02: Then in 1953, the Watson Roadster was created.
• 21:11
SPEAKER_02: And uh it showed up at the Indianapolis 500 in the 50s and became the dominant design of the decade.
• 21:16
SPEAKER_02: Of course, if you didn't know it, it was built by AJ Watson.
• 21:20
SPEAKER_02: Now, this was a front engine layout, lightweight, tubular chassis, low center graffity, and it had the Offenhauser four-cylinder engine that was so well run and well known from the Indy 500.
• 21:32
SPEAKER_02: Now, it won multiple Indy 500s and represented you know the pinnacle of the front engine race car engineering that flowed into other areas.
• 21:42
SPEAKER_02: Uh here's this one for you, Jeff.
• 21:44
SPEAKER_02: I found this one specifically for you.
• 21:47
  SPEAKER_02: 2008.
• 21:48
SPEAKER_02: Your heroine, Danica Patrick, hasn't been on heroin in years.
• 21:56
SPEAKER_02: So she won the Metropolitan, she won her first.
• 22:00
SPEAKER_02: Open wheel race in North America capturing the uh Indie Japan 300.
• 22:06
  SPEAKER_02: There you go.
• 22:08
SPEAKER_01: It was she went in Japan.
• 22:10
SPEAKER_02: Well, yeah, but then she that was her first indie 500 open wheel race that she went, ran, and then she came over and of course went on to run some more uh in the United States.
• 22:19
SPEAKER_02: She got into NASCAR, and she really you know she didn't really get as far as a lot of people thought she would, although she did win some races.
• 22:27
SPEAKER_02: But it was more important that she kind of created a path for other female drivers to kind of move into the sport slowly but surely.
• 22:35
SPEAKER_01: Well, I I I met her don't call me years ago in Kansas because back in the day, open wheel used to run with the truck series, and we had a tent uh uh when I worked for Keystone, we had a tent in Kansas, the new facility up there at the racetrack.
• 22:51
SPEAKER_01: We were walking through the garage in the infield where the drivers are, and she was coming up, she was married to a real tall young man at the time.
• 22:58
SPEAKER_01: And she said, Hi, Jack.
• 23:00
SPEAKER_01: No, she wouldn't, you know, and there was several of us in a group, you know how they have group and they get autographs.
• 23:04
SPEAKER_01: She walked right by everybody and put her nose up in the air and just like, you know, I'm I'm I don't have time for you.
• 23:09
SPEAKER_01: And it's a whole group of fans.
• 23:11
SPEAKER_01: So uh she lost me after that.
• 23:12
SPEAKER_01: Just did not follow her.
• 23:13
SPEAKER_01: And and she's really she actually dated Aaron Rodgers.
• 23:17
SPEAKER_01: So uh I'm sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt your story, Mike.
• 23:21
  SPEAKER_01: I'm a fan.
• 23:21
  SPEAKER_01: Here, just go ahead.
• 23:22
SPEAKER_01: This is for you, Jeff.
• 23:24
SPEAKER_02: So by all means, you know, just go with the flow, Jeff.
• 23:27
  SPEAKER_02: Not a fan, man.
• 23:28
  SPEAKER_02: Rail on her.
• 23:29
  SPEAKER_02: Next.
• 23:30
  SPEAKER_02: What's what's next?
• 23:32
SPEAKER_02: Well, that was this week in automotive history.
• 23:34
SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's gonna wrap it up with Jeff.
• 23:36
SPEAKER_02: Jeff's comments right there is gonna finish it up.
• 23:39
  SPEAKER_00: Uh way to go.
• 23:40
SPEAKER_00: Well, obviously, Jeff isn't a big fan.
• 23:42
SPEAKER_00: Uh so some of the stories making automotive news headlines.
• 23:44
SPEAKER_00: You know, we read the story about EVs and how these manufacturers are losing billions upon billions of dollars, and Stellantis seems to be at the head of the pack for that.
• 23:55
SPEAKER_00: Well, hourly UAW members at Stellantis will not receive profit sharing payments this year, the first time they'll miss out on the annual bonuses since 2011.
• 24:03
SPEAKER_00: After tariffs and lower sales push the automaker's North American operation into the red because they don't have any cars to sell anymore.
• 24:10
SPEAKER_00: The average payout for UAW workers at the Detroit 3 is about$6,200 this year, nearly 40% less than the 2025 average of almost$10,000.
• 24:21
SPEAKER_00: Ford get about$6,780 from profit sharing in March, down from$10,200, while GM employees can expect as much as$10,500 extra in their February 27th paychecks, a 28% decline.
• 24:36
SPEAKER_00: Stillotis contract with the UAW pays$900 for every 1% of North American profit margin.
• 24:42
SPEAKER_00: For 2025, the company lost$2.2 billion in North America for a margin of negative 3.1%.
• 24:49
SPEAKER_00: So what does that mean?
• 24:50
SPEAKER_00: That they have to pay they have to pay Stilantis now because they didn't make it, they didn't make the cut?
• 24:55
  SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
• 24:56
  SPEAKER_00: It's terrible.
• 24:58
SPEAKER_00: So in that vein, while you got your mindset on money and Stilantis, Antonio Felosa, who took over as head of Stellantis in June of last year, received$6.37 million in total compensation last year, the company said.
• 25:15
SPEAKER_00: Compensation topped the company's earlier projection that Felosa would earn at least$4 million in his first two years as CEO.
• 25:23
SPEAKER_00: His pay could rise as much as$23 million a year from a 2028 including bonuses.
• 25:29
SPEAKER_00: Former Stellantis CEO, Carlos Tavares, who sounds like some sort of musical group, who resigned from the automaker in December of 2024, had a pay package of$14 million in 2025.
• 25:44
SPEAKER_00: Taveras abruptly left the company after coming under scrutiny for slumping sales in the North American market and cutting the highest selling cars that Stellantis offered, the Challenger and the Charger.
• 25:56
SPEAKER_00: Oh, we're not going to make that anymore.
• 25:58
  SPEAKER_00: Okay, fine.
• 25:58
SPEAKER_00: We'll go find somewhere else that makes horsepower.
• 26:01
SPEAKER_01: I need to renegotiate my contract, Mike.
• 26:04
SPEAKER_01: Who is it that sets these prices for these CEOs?
• 26:08
  SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
• 26:08
  SPEAKER_01: Why?
• 26:08
  SPEAKER_01: They're they're they're shareholders, the board.
• 26:11
SPEAKER_01: The board sets us because they're all in on it.
• 26:14
  SPEAKER_01: Come on.
• 26:16
SPEAKER_00: One for you, two for me.
• 26:18
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 26:18
SPEAKER_00: It just really ticks me off.
• 26:20
  SPEAKER_00: Anyway.
• 26:21
SPEAKER_00: A Minnesota dealership group in its used car dealership and an unlicensed broker face felony charges of engineering a long-running scheme to cheat the state out of more than$350,000 in motor vehicle sales tax.
• 26:35
SPEAKER_00: The complaints filed by the Hennepin County Attorney's Office against Walser Automotive Group in Bloomington, its Walser pre-owned sales subsidiary, and William Ward.
• 26:47
SPEAKER_00: This program produced by William Ward follows a multi-year investigation that uncovered a Shell Montana Limited Liability Corporation, straw buyers, and falsified bills of lading for vehicle deliveries, according to complaints filed in Hennepin County's fourth judicial district court.
• 27:06
  SPEAKER_00: $350,000.
• 27:08
SPEAKER_00: Walser, by the way, ranked 32 on Automotive News Top 150.
• 27:15
  SPEAKER_00: You're going to jail.
• 27:17
  SPEAKER_00: Don't stop.
• 27:18
SPEAKER_00: Don't pass go or whatever.
• 27:20
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 27:20
  SPEAKER_00: Um let's see.
• 27:22
SPEAKER_00: I I I really want to save it when I have time for it.
• 27:25
  SPEAKER_00: All right.
• 27:26
SPEAKER_00: So I'm going to have to do a little editing here while we're on the fly.
• 27:28
  SPEAKER_00: I hope you don't mind.
• 27:29
  SPEAKER_00: Not at all.
• 27:30
SPEAKER_00: But um, you know, these are this is editing on the fly.
• 27:34
  SPEAKER_00: These are important times.
• 27:35
  SPEAKER_00: They are important times.
• 27:37
SPEAKER_00: But I'm going to save these to next hour because I don't want to get into half the story and have to cut it short because you need to hear all these.
• 27:43
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 27:43
SPEAKER_00: I spent a lot of time editing these.
• 27:45
SPEAKER_00: We're starting to glitch, so we better get to a commercial.
• 27:47
  SPEAKER_00: You think?
• 27:48
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 27:48
  SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
• 27:49
SPEAKER_00: Well, let's do that then.
• 27:51
SPEAKER_00: Hey, um, I want to tell you that we'd love to hear from you.
• 27:54
SPEAKER_00: Just shoot us an email.
• 27:55
SPEAKER_00: The address here is info at inwheeltime.com.
• 27:58
SPEAKER_00: We are back after this important message or two.
• 28:04
  SPEAKER_00: The Easter Bunny's coming.
• 28:06
SPEAKER_00: To the tailpipes and tacos cruise in at the Loopy Tortilla Tex Max in Katy, April 4th, 8 to 11 a.m.
