- 1:49Speaker 3: That is the Cowboy Maloney's text line. Call us on
- 1:52Speaker 3: the Mississippi Sports Medicine call line 601-897-1059. Remember Tennessee linebacker
- 1:58Speaker 3: Aaron Carter got a two-game suspension because of a $ 400
- 2:00Speaker 3: plane ticket? They've now brought that down to one game.
- 2:05Speaker 3: Why not just go ahead and do away with it,
- 2:07Speaker 3: the whole deal?
- 2:08Speaker 4: We got a text here.
- 2:08Speaker 3: It says, all these unnamed texture guys staying in college
- 2:12Speaker 3: a decade is watering down the sport. College football is
- 2:14Speaker 3: dog poo-poo. The players stink, and the NFL will soon
- 2:18Speaker 3: make college football an NFL feeder league.
- 2:20Speaker 4: Aha!
- 2:21Speaker 3: You know, there was a, and I'm trying to find it,
- 2:27Speaker 3: Let me find it from Peter Burns.
- 2:28Speaker 4: Do you like Peter Burns? Okay.
- 2:31Speaker 3: So Peter Burns, let me find this. And I'm glad
- 2:35Speaker 3: this person brought this up.
- 2:37Speaker 4: Where is it?
- 2:38Speaker 3: I'm going to look through here until I find it
- 2:40Speaker 3: because it is here. I know that I shared this
- 2:48Speaker 3: because I wanted to make sure to talk about this.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Let me go back over here and see if maybe
- 2:53Speaker 3: it's over here. but Peter Burns was talking about this
- 2:57Speaker 3: very thing. And I thought he, uh, had a great
- 3:03Speaker 3: response to this. Did I not share this? I thought,
- 3:06Speaker 3: let's see.
- 3:07Speaker 4: No, here it is. I believe I'm going to find it.
- 3:13Speaker 3: As, uh, he's talking about this very thing about how
- 3:16Speaker 3: the NFL is basically going to, uh, take over college football.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Let me find, I've got to find this and it
- 3:23Speaker 3: may have to just do it, uh, during the break
- 3:27Speaker 3: because I thought I had it saved, but it doesn't
- 3:31Speaker 3: look like.
- 3:34Speaker 4: Here we go. Right here.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Finally found it. All right, this is for Peter Burns.
- 3:37Speaker 3: He said, long post alert. The NFL has been salivating
- 3:44Speaker 3: at all college football chaos. At all the chaos, the
- 3:47Speaker 3: NFL's loving this. With the Big Ten, the SEC, and
- 3:51Speaker 3: the college football playoff TV rights, this is Peter Burns,
- 3:54Speaker 3: SEC Network, ESPN. And the TV writes, ending around 2030
- 3:58Speaker 3: or 32.
- 4:00Speaker 4: What prevents the NFL from doing the following?
- 4:04Speaker 3: Creating the NFL SL.
- 4:08Speaker 4: The NFL Super Leagues. Now, Paul's right there.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Because I have been of the belief for a long
- 4:15Speaker 3: time that the NFL is only going to put up
- 4:18Speaker 3: with this for so long.
- 4:19Speaker 4: Put up with what? Everything that's going on in college football.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Well, why?
- 4:23Speaker 4: Why do they care? Because.
- 4:25Speaker 3: If their product, which is college athletes, the feeder system
- 4:32Speaker 3: to the National Football League is college sports.
- 4:35Speaker 4: It is the NFL. You know, it's not like.
- 4:39Speaker 3: The NBA, where, yes, they get guys from college basketball,
- 4:44Speaker 3: but they also get guys from the EuroLeague. They'll get
- 4:46Speaker 3: guys from China. They get them all over the world.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Major League Baseball. They get guys all over the world.
- 4:53Speaker 3: The NFL is still hockey. Canada, the States, the NFL
- 4:59Speaker 3: is the one place where everybody outside of an Australian
- 5:05Speaker 3: kicker or just kind of a one-off player here or there,
- 5:10Speaker 3: everybody comes from college football. That is the lifeblood to
- 5:14Speaker 3: the NFL. And if the college game gets watered down
- 5:19Speaker 3: to a point to where these guys are physically fit
- 5:23Speaker 3: but not mentally ready, to where all of their focus
- 5:27Speaker 3: has been put on money and fame and social media,
- 5:32Speaker 3: and the NFL product starts getting watered down, the NFL
- 5:36Speaker 3: will step in. They'll say, we're not doing this. You're
- 5:38Speaker 3: not watering our multi-billion dollar cash cow into mediocrity.
- 5:45Speaker 4: You're just not doing it.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Peter Burns says, what if the NFL is gearing up
- 5:50Speaker 3: for after the TV rights when it comes open 2030
- 5:53Speaker 3: to 32 to create something like an NFL Super League.
- 5:59Speaker 3: It would look like this, 64-team Super League, four 16-team conferences.
- 6:06Speaker 3: You'd have the SEC, the Big Ten, the ACC, and the, quote, Pac-16,
- 6:12Speaker 3: where you re-regionalize college sports. The SEC's in the South,
- 6:17Speaker 3: the Big Ten's in the North, the ACC's up the
- 6:19Speaker 3: East Coast, and the Pac-16's out West. Create a 64-team
- 6:23Speaker 3: Tier 2 league with the remaining teams.
- 6:26Speaker 4: Group 6.
- 6:27Speaker 3: So right now, you've done two things if the NFL
- 6:30Speaker 3: would do this. You would create the Super League, and
- 6:33Speaker 3: then you would have everybody else, which it needs to
- 6:36Speaker 3: be broken up. I don't know of anybody that doesn't
- 6:38Speaker 3: think this, you know, with common sense, think this is
- 6:40Speaker 3: the way to go. You sign with out of high
- 6:44Speaker 3: school or junior college, you sign with the NFL Super League,
- 6:47Speaker 3: the NFL SL, you follow the NFL PA Super League guidelines.
- 6:54Speaker 3: And it would look something like this. Three-year deals when
- 6:58Speaker 3: you come into the league with a one-time transfer allowed.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Five-year eligibility max, which matches what the NCAA has put
- 7:07Speaker 3: in starting this year. Each team has a hard cap
- 7:12Speaker 3: of $ 60 million. and a hard floor of $ 25 million.
- 7:18Speaker 3: Byrd writes to team resigning players, harsh tampering rules, NFL
- 7:26Speaker 3: agent certification. They use the NFL leverage to maximize each
- 7:31Speaker 3: conference's TV value. They buy out existing TV conference contracts
- 7:39Speaker 3: to align timeline to 2030 to 2031. They protect their, quote,
- 7:44Speaker 3: farm system, which is college sports, provide college football with
- 7:48Speaker 3: the enforceable rules under the NFL protection. Part of the
- 7:52Speaker 3: deal says each school must earmark X amount to protect
- 7:57Speaker 3: non-revenue in women's sports. Uniform scheduling, 12 games with more crossovers,
- 8:04Speaker 3: eight conference games, three non-conference games, one against each other
- 8:09Speaker 3: NFL Super League conference, one tier difference. One tier two
- 8:15Speaker 3: non-conference game. Conferences get financial security. NFL rules protect while
- 8:21Speaker 3: saving non-revenue sports and protecting traditions. NFL protects its feeder
- 8:27Speaker 3: league and develops entirely new income stream with more inventory.
- 8:32Speaker 3: Fans get structure. Players get paid. If conferences or schools
- 8:38Speaker 3: all receive more dollars... while getting rules enforced and protecting
- 8:43Speaker 3: non-revenue sports, why wouldn't they be open to the idea?
- 8:45Speaker 3: I think this is the way. The NFL takes it over.
- 8:49Speaker 3: I know you don't want to talk today, but I'm
- 8:50Speaker 3: going to ask you, what do you think about this?
- 8:53Speaker 5: I mean, it all sounds real good. It all sounds
- 8:56Speaker 5: real good, but NFL, try to take over college football.
- 9:02Speaker 5: You're not fixing this. Okay, you're the NFL. You're a
- 9:07Speaker 5: pretty disgusting organization. Your NFLPA. Oh, wait, is that the
- 9:12Speaker 5: same NFLPA who had the head of their organization last
- 9:16Speaker 5: year fired because he was spending league money on strip clubs?
- 9:20Speaker 6: Oh, yeah, that.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:22Speaker 5: OK, you're you're you are very much in a moral
- 9:25Speaker 5: authority position to come over and come in and take
- 9:28Speaker 5: over and be the adult.
- 9:30Speaker 6: OK, I trust all that.
- 9:32Speaker 7: Right.
- 9:34Speaker 5: You don't care about the types of people that are
- 9:36Speaker 5: coming into the league now. You're drafting trash like It
- 9:40Speaker 5: goes back to trash like Tyreek Hill, trash like Rasheed Rice.
- 9:44Speaker 6: I don't trust anything.
- 9:46Speaker 5: The NFL coming in and trying to be the grown
- 9:48Speaker 5: up in all this in this entire scenario, try to
- 9:51Speaker 5: be the leaders, try to change everything for the better.
- 9:54Speaker 5: And then we go back to the way you the
- 9:57Speaker 5: way you put it at the beginning.
- 9:59Speaker 4: You said, well, if it.
- 9:59Speaker 5: Gets to where the NFL sees the college product is
- 10:03Speaker 5: being watered down these players and that part is right
- 10:06Speaker 5: the mentally tough these players are coming in already obsessed
- 10:09Speaker 5: with just the money and fame I don't think there's
- 10:13Speaker 5: any way to get around that anymore because if we
- 10:17Speaker 5: were to have someone in charge and and say there's
- 10:19Speaker 5: a cap, I don't think these schools are... Someone will
- 10:25Speaker 5: always find a way to get around that cap. It
- 10:28Speaker 5: will always go back under the table. Maybe that's a
- 10:32Speaker 5: very pessimistic way of thinking, but I just think that
- 10:37Speaker 5: where we are today, there will just be more under
- 10:41Speaker 5: the table.
- 10:43Speaker 3: No, there will definitely be people to try it. I
- 10:45Speaker 3: think you would have to have a system in place
- 10:47Speaker 3: to where The penalty is severe, right? The penalty is severe.
- 10:53Speaker 3: But you have to have structure to where lawsuits and
- 10:57Speaker 3: lawyers don't come involved. Judges don't get involved. Somebody's got
- 11:02Speaker 3: to do something with this. It's not going to be Congress.
- 11:06Speaker 3: The conferences don't look like they're going to come together
- 11:08Speaker 3: and do anything. So if it's not the NFL, and
- 11:11Speaker 3: I get your point, but who fixes it? Or does
- 11:15Speaker 3: the sport just die?
- 11:18Speaker 6: I don't know that it dies. It just, it's, I
- 11:23Speaker 6: don't know.
- 11:24Speaker 5: I don't want to say it's an unwinnable situation here
- 11:29Speaker 5: because the NFL, if the NFL were to take it over,
- 11:32Speaker 5: you would think that if an organization like the NFL
- 11:35Speaker 5: were to take it over, that would be your best bet.
- 11:38Speaker 5: But for all the reasons I just said, and that's
- 11:41Speaker 5: just my thinking, I don't know.
- 11:45Speaker 6: I don't know that this is fixable.
- 11:49Speaker 4: It's a long road to fix it. Let me say that.
- 11:51Speaker 3: That house to be rebuilt, to remodel that house, it's

- 13:41Speaker 8: St.
- 13:41Speaker 3: Louis Vic on the Cubba Maloney's text line. Jake, I
- 13:43Speaker 3: initially attempted to compare this eligibility fiasco to the movie
- 13:47Speaker 3: Necessary Roughness.
- 13:49Speaker 4: However, true.
- 13:50Speaker 3: Those old dudes had eligibility remaining but weren't attempting to
- 13:54Speaker 3: game the system, nor were they current potential pros.
- 13:58Speaker 4: It was a movie. Shaking my head. Yeah, a little
- 14:00Speaker 4: bit different, but I get it. I get it. Did
- 14:02Speaker 4: you like that movie?
- 14:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:03Speaker 4: I thought it was great. I thought it was great.
- 14:08Speaker 4: Let's see. Unnamed texture.
- 14:10Speaker 3: The NFL guy was fired for the same thing Walker
- 14:12Speaker 3: Jones got fired for. I don't think Walker Jones got fired,
- 14:15Speaker 3: did he? I think he's still a part of the.
- 14:19Speaker 4: Grove Collective. I'm not sure what that text means. Cowboy Ready. Beav,
- 14:23Speaker 4: how do you feel about the 49ers owner?
- 14:26Speaker 6: What a dummy. What a dummy.
- 14:28Speaker 5: Dude, you are the owner, CEO of an NFL football team.
- 14:35Speaker 5: You talk about someone being in the limelight.
- 14:41Speaker 6: You're an NFL owner. You can't do that.
- 14:45Speaker 5: I mean, and especially... It's so ridiculous. Not only did
- 14:50Speaker 5: you involve yourself in this prostitution charge, you arranged, allegedly, right?
- 14:56Speaker 5: We're supposed to say that every time. Allegedly, you arranged this,
- 15:00Speaker 5: your part in a prostitution deal. But in a trailer park,
- 15:06Speaker 5: like it was in a really.
- 15:08Speaker 6: Yeah, it was an Ohio trailer park. Like I hear that.
- 15:12Speaker 5: And my first thought is you're going to the trailer
- 15:14Speaker 5: park behind Sonic in Pearl Southern Gardens, a Pearl Classic,
- 15:21Speaker 5: a Rankin County Classic.
- 15:22Speaker 6: Southern Gardens.
- 15:24Speaker 5: That's not a that's not where the owner of an
- 15:27Speaker 5: NFL team goes.
- 15:29Speaker 6: You're a dummy. But, you know, men are monsters who
- 15:33Speaker 6: crave young flesh. That's what it all.
- 15:35Speaker 4: Boils down to. Reminds me of that. Well, you never
- 15:41Speaker 4: watched Troy, did you?
- 15:43Speaker 5: No.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Brad Pitt, when he was playing Achilles, he was sitting
- 15:47Speaker 3: in the tent with his cousin, Patrick Liss. He said,
- 15:50Speaker 3: we men are wretched things. So I think that's what
- 15:52Speaker 3: you're saying. You know, what's the old saying? You can
- 15:55Speaker 3: take the girl out of the bar, but you can't
- 15:56Speaker 3: take the bar to the girl. Sounds like what this
- 15:58Speaker 3: NFL owner, he has some trashiness about him. The real
- 16:03Speaker 3: unnamed texter. can the NFL bypass college and just create
- 16:06Speaker 3: a minor league like baseball, very expensive and last resort,
- 16:11Speaker 3: especially if the college system implodes. I mean, I guess
- 16:14Speaker 3: technically they could, but then you get into that, man,
- 16:21Speaker 3: that's a lot for the NFL to take on, not
- 16:23Speaker 3: saying they couldn't do it. I mean, right now the
- 16:25Speaker 3: colleges are the ones who recruit. They're the ones who analyze,
- 16:31Speaker 3: you know, I mean, they get all these players.
- 16:35Speaker 2: Maybe.
- 16:38Speaker 4: Maybe.
- 16:38Speaker 3: Anything's possible, I guess, up to now. Let's go to
- 16:41Speaker 3: Louisville George. George, happy Tuesday. How are you, sir?
- 16:45Speaker 1: Happy Tuesday. First of all, I will call you tomorrow.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Yes.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Secondly, man, Beaver's on it. He is all freaking over it.
- 16:57Speaker 1: And Beaver, it wasn't pessimistic. Okay? It was realistic. That's
- 17:05Speaker 1: what it was. Instead of me regurgitating any of the
- 17:08Speaker 1: stuff he said, which I agree with all of it,
- 17:12Speaker 1: except it wasn't pessimistic, it is what it is. Do
- 17:16Speaker 1: y'all remember the movie, what was the chick's name from Cheers?
- 17:23Speaker 4: Oh, gosh.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Little Skinny Thing, cute.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Who?
- 17:28Speaker 7: Kirstie Alley?
- 17:29Speaker 6: The Money Pit.
- 17:31Speaker 1: The Money Pit.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Oh, I remember.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Her name was.
- 17:35Speaker 4: I remember Tom Hanks was in that.
- 17:36Speaker 1: The Money Pit.
- 17:37Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, Tom Hanks was in that movie, and I
- 17:39Speaker 4: cannot remember.
- 17:40Speaker 6: Yeah, Shelly Long.
- 17:41Speaker 4: Was it Shelly Long?
- 17:42Speaker 1: Well, see, that is Shelly Long. There you go.
- 17:44Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 17:45Speaker 1: That is where we're at in this situation. It's a
- 17:48Speaker 1: Money Pit. Oh, yeah. I mean, it is what it is. And, Jake,
- 17:53Speaker 1: to you, I ask, NFL, blah, blah, blah, takes over, blah, blah, blah.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Who is the authority over this?
- 18:05Speaker 4: I would have to think, Roger.
- 18:06Speaker 1: What I mean by the authority, I'm sorry.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Go ahead.
- 18:10Speaker 1: I want to segue into the $ 400 stupid, ridiculous, freaking
- 18:15Speaker 1: whatever the guy did that you mentioned at the top
- 18:20Speaker 1: of the hour, which in this day, the way things
- 18:23Speaker 1: are is stupid. So somebody gave him $ 400, give him $ 1, 000,
- 18:26Speaker 1: just shut up and let it go. Who's monitoring all
- 18:30Speaker 1: that and making penalties and whatever?
- 18:33Speaker 3: I would have to guess Roger Goodell would have to
- 18:35Speaker 3: appoint some sort of a college commissioner. I mean, that's
- 18:38Speaker 3: the first thing you have to do. There's nobody in charge, right?
- 18:41Speaker 3: I mean, Sankey's in charge of the SEC. Petitti's in
- 18:44Speaker 3: charge of the Big Ten. You've got a president of
- 18:47Speaker 3: the NCAA, but he's just a face man.
- 18:50Speaker 4: So I think you'd have to appoint somebody.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Here's where I'm at. You better hope that Doc Holliday
- 18:55Speaker 1: doesn't show up because– It's the wild, wild west, and
- 18:59Speaker 1: he's sitting there. He's sitting there. He's sitting there until
- 19:03Speaker 1: he pulls that pistol out, and then it's all over.
- 19:08Speaker 3: The 49ers.
- 19:09Speaker 1: The only thing I have to say about that is
- 19:12Speaker 1: I do not get these idiots. We can do so
- 19:16Speaker 1: many examples, but I'm going to go back to.
- 19:22Speaker 6: U.K.
- 19:23Speaker 1: As in not England. England. Lexington, Kentucky's basketball coach who
- 19:28Speaker 1: was single and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. What's he do?
- 19:31Speaker 1: He leaves the bar at three in the morning and
- 19:33Speaker 1: he drives. You're making $ 6 million a year. Now, let's
- 19:40Speaker 1: go straight now to the 49ers. You're a billionaire.
- 19:46Speaker 5: Why?
- 19:47Speaker 1: I mean, is it? Jake Orbeaver, is it a thing
- 19:54Speaker 1: where you want to be normal? Well, is that normal?
- 19:59Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 19:59Speaker 4: It could be.
- 20:00Speaker 2: What prompts you, Jake Wimberly, who.
- 20:04Speaker 1: went off and became the number one, forget Barstool and
- 20:08Speaker 1: everybody else, it's Jake Wimberly, and he's got his thing.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Why is he going to leave Legends, who's expanded at
- 20:15Speaker 1: that point in time, in Los Angeles and drive home
- 20:23Speaker 1: after a few or whatever when he's got a billion dollars?
- 20:29Speaker 4: I don't know. We've seen several instances of this.
- 20:30Speaker 1: I don't understand. I mean, I really don't.
- 20:32Speaker 4: Yeah, it's very perplexing for sure.
- 20:35Speaker 1: You know, give Joe Walsh a lot of credit, okay?
- 20:39Speaker 1: I got a driver, a ride in the back. Now,
- 20:43Speaker 1: last thing, and I'll take your comments off the air,
- 20:46Speaker 1: I will be in Nashville, Tennessee on Sunday evening. Louisville,
- 20:50Speaker 1: Ole Miss, your takes. And, guys, I'm enjoying every second. Jake,
- 20:57Speaker 1: I'll holler at you tomorrow, dude.
- 20:58Speaker 4: Talk to you then. Thank you, George. Appreciate the kind words.
- 21:00Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 21:01Speaker 3: Yeah, Louisville first, Louisville and Ole Miss, and of course
- 21:03Speaker 3: we'll get more into this next week as we start
- 21:05Speaker 3: really getting into the games with guests and our own
- 21:08Speaker 3: crazy opinions. Ole Miss is a touchdown favorite. I think
- 21:12Speaker 3: Louisville's got a puncher's chance. They've got a pretty darn
- 21:15Speaker 3: good roster. They've got a good quarterback. They've got a
- 21:18Speaker 3: really good football coach. You can make the case that Louisville,
- 21:22Speaker 3: and you can make this case against a lot of
- 21:23Speaker 3: teams Ole Miss play early, has more coaching continuity than
- 21:26Speaker 3: Ole Miss does just because the staff has been there. Yes,
- 21:28Speaker 3: Pete Golding has been there, but now he's the head guy.
- 21:32Speaker 3: You know, you kind of bring it down to like
- 21:34Speaker 3: high school football. Eugene Clinton's the head football coach at Brandon.
- 21:36Speaker 3: He's been there forever, but now has the operate. We'll
- 21:38Speaker 3: find out Friday starting against Tupelo. That whole deal. I
- 21:42Speaker 3: like Louisville's chances. I think Ole Miss wins the game,
- 21:43Speaker 3: but I think it's a four-quarter ball game. But why
- 21:46Speaker 3: do people do it? Like Tiger Woods. Tiger Woods had
- 21:49Speaker 3: it all. But he chose to get behind the wheel
- 21:52Speaker 3: multiple times. I mean, Robert Kraft, you know, he goes
- 21:58Speaker 3: to a massage parlor.
- 22:00Speaker 4: Just, I don't know.
- 22:01Speaker 3: I feel like we need a shrink, right, to answer
- 22:03Speaker 3: these questions. We're brought to you by Clinton Body Shop, 601-924-2159,

- 23:59Speaker 3: at soundcomav.com. Magic Mike on the Cowboy Maloney's text line.
- 24:02Speaker 3: We appreciate George calling in. You can call us 601-897-1059.
- 24:05Speaker 3: That is the Mississippi Sports Medicine caller line. Magic Mike,
- 24:10Speaker 3: let me preface my comments by saying I am a
- 24:13Speaker 3: state homer, but as if Coach Meese's departure from Ole
- 24:20Speaker 3: Miss and comments regarding the difficulties of recruiting players to
- 24:26Speaker 3: Mississippi didn't seal the deal, the latest news makes him
- 24:28Speaker 3: the villain of college football, and he loves it, us
- 24:32Speaker 3: against the world. He is strategically brilliant. Do you think,
- 24:37Speaker 3: as he called him, Coach Meese, Lane Kiffin, a.k.a. Is
- 24:41Speaker 3: doing this on purpose? Is he strategically trying to create this?
- 24:46Speaker 3: He's he's the Joker. I don't know who Batman is.
- 24:50Speaker 4: Maybe it's.
- 24:51Speaker 3: Kurt Cignetti in this Batman of college football. Is he
- 24:56Speaker 3: trying to be the Joker of college football?
- 24:59Speaker 5: You know, I don't I don't know that he is
- 25:04Speaker 5: has just mastermind at masterminded some grand plan to be that.
- 25:10Speaker 5: But he never stops talking and it invites all of
- 25:15Speaker 5: this that he's talking about. So I will say his personality,
- 25:20Speaker 5: everything we hear about him and everything the way he seems,
- 25:24Speaker 5: I believe he certainly, certainly, certainly welcomes it. He is
- 25:30Speaker 5: the type of person who really, I think, I feel
- 25:33Speaker 5: like he loves all this talk about him.
- 25:37Speaker 6: Coach me as who is this?
- 25:39Speaker 4: Magic Mike.
- 25:40Speaker 6: Magic Mike said.
- 25:41Speaker 4: I would agree with that.
- 25:43Speaker 3: I think we can officially say his whole stick in
- 25:45Speaker 3: Oxford where he did the Theo Vaughn interview and he
- 25:48Speaker 3: was the changed man.
- 25:50Speaker 4: None of that was real, was it?
- 25:51Speaker 3: Maybe he wanted it to be real, but maybe he
- 25:54Speaker 3: just can't.
- 25:55Speaker 4: It's like an addict. He can't stay away from it.
- 25:59Speaker 4: All right, let's see here. Miko.
- 26:01Speaker 7: Beaver.
- 26:02Speaker 3: It's some certified cur dogs that came out of their, uh,
- 26:07Speaker 3: Out of that trailer park.
- 26:08Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 26:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:12Speaker 6: No doubt about that.
- 26:13Speaker 4: Yeah, that trailer park you speak of, I think it's
- 26:15Speaker 4: still there, isn't it?
- 26:17Speaker 6: I'm sure it is. Southern Gardens doesn't ever die.
- 26:20Speaker 3: If you walk in, you may limp out. You don't
- 26:22Speaker 3: want to just wander through Southern Gardens, do you?
- 26:24Speaker 4: No. It's not a place just to take a stroll.
- 26:27Speaker 4: Can't be no geek off the street.
- 26:28Speaker 8: No.
- 26:29Speaker 3: Monkeys riding dogs. Jake, is there any way we can
- 26:33Speaker 3: have Beaver for an hour after your show talking sports-
- 26:37Speaker 3: He is very knowledgeable. I don't want to put him
- 26:39Speaker 3: on the spot, but I think that he would do
- 26:42Speaker 3: an outstanding job, better than Paul Feinbaum, even though I'm
- 26:47Speaker 3: an Alabama fan, talk to management, bump his pay. He
- 26:53Speaker 3: has a brain like an elephant. I would love to
- 26:55Speaker 3: hear him take the mic. So do you want to
- 26:59Speaker 3: take the six to seven and maybe Uncle Bill come
- 27:02Speaker 3: in and work your show?
- 27:03Speaker 7: Well.
- 27:05Speaker 5: He's riding dogs. You have a lot of faith in me, sir.
- 27:08Speaker 5: I appreciate those words. I appreciate the faith in me,
- 27:10Speaker 5: but whilst I'm not a big Paul Feinbaum fan, to
- 27:17Speaker 5: think that I could do better than Paul Feinbaum, I
- 27:19Speaker 5: don't know.
- 27:22Speaker 4: And I don't know that you want to be here
- 27:23Speaker 4: late at night. You have jewelry to sell.
- 27:26Speaker 6: Oh, yeah, I do, don't I?
- 27:27Speaker 4: Yeah, you have jewelry to sell. That's a thing.
- 27:30Speaker 3: CWR, not sure about Joker, but he has got ass
- 27:33Speaker 3: clown down talking about Lane Kiffin, Texas, six or one, eight, eight, five, three, seven, seven,
- 27:37Speaker 3: six draft Kings by the numbers. This is pretty interesting. Um,
- 27:42Speaker 3: and it kind of tells you the window because, you know,
- 27:46Speaker 3: every NFL team, this is on the, on the NFL
- 27:49Speaker 3: shifting gears real quick. Every team has a window, right?
- 27:53Speaker 3: Because of salary caps and age of player and contracts
- 27:58Speaker 3: that come back open and renegotiation of contracts. Every team
- 28:01Speaker 3: has a window. That's what made the Patriots run, to me,
- 28:05Speaker 3: on a ton of levels. But the most magnificent thing
- 28:09Speaker 3: was they were able to manage their roster, churn their
- 28:12Speaker 3: roster over the years with Belichick and Brady, and continue
- 28:15Speaker 3: to stay on top of the NFL. Number of players
- 28:18Speaker 3: in the top 100 players are the top 100 contract rankings.
- 28:23Speaker 3: The Lions rank number one in the NFL. They have
- 28:25Speaker 3: seven players in the top 100 contracts right now.
- 28:29Speaker 2: Seven.
- 28:31Speaker 4: So, like, if they're going to get it done, they
- 28:33Speaker 4: need to get it done. Can they get it done?
- 28:35Speaker 4: I don't think so.
- 28:36Speaker 6: The Lions, man.
- 28:39Speaker 8: No.
- 28:39Speaker 6: Given the history. And that's the thing.
- 28:44Speaker 5: I've gotten to where I absolutely love so much about
- 28:47Speaker 5: that organization. I love Dan Campbell. I love Jameer Gibbs.
- 28:51Speaker 5: I've loved him from the beginning. Amon Ross St.
- 28:54Speaker 7: Brown.
- 28:54Speaker 6: That's just a fun name to say.
- 28:56Speaker 4: It is.
- 28:56Speaker 5: Jared Goff has completely, you know, when Jared Goff first
- 28:59Speaker 5: came in, When he was with the Rams, Fisher really
- 29:04Speaker 5: bungled that situation. And I didn't think much of him
- 29:08Speaker 5: at all. And now I've really come to enjoy him.
- 29:12Speaker 5: So I really, really pull.
- 29:15Speaker 6: For the Lions these days.
- 29:16Speaker 5: But the organizational history, and I hate to keep going
- 29:21Speaker 5: back to this because the rule doesn't have to be
- 29:25Speaker 5: the same all the time. Things can change. But certain organizations,
- 29:31Speaker 5: like I tell you all the time, the Browns and
- 29:33Speaker 5: Jets are the first that come to mind. Certain organizations
- 29:37Speaker 5: just feel like they'll never get it done. And the
- 29:40Speaker 5: Lions are still one of those organizations, no matter how
- 29:44Speaker 5: much they've improved in the past five years. They still
- 29:48Speaker 5: feel like they're almost still lumped in with the Browns
- 29:52Speaker 5: and Jets.
- 29:54Speaker 4: I would agree with that. I would agree.
- 29:55Speaker 3: Cowboys and Eagles have six top 100 contract players. Colts, Broncos,
- 30:01Speaker 3: Ravens have five. Then you get down into everybody else.
- 30:04Speaker 3: The 49ers, the Seahawks, the Vikings, the Texans, the Bengals
- 30:08Speaker 3: have four. The Dolphins and the Redbirds have none. The
- 30:13Speaker 3: Jets and the Saints have one apiece. Several with two,
- 30:17Speaker 3: some of the names you would think. Browns, Raiders, Giants.
- 30:23Speaker 3: But then the Patriots, Bears, Bills, and Falcons are on
- 30:26Speaker 3: that list. So I thought this was pretty interesting. Also,
- 30:29Speaker 3: staying with the theme in the NFL, front office sports
- 30:32Speaker 3: reports the NFL's crackdown on taunting will continue. Officials will
- 30:36Speaker 3: keep a close eye on players violating the league's rules,
- 30:40Speaker 3: prohibiting taunting opponents, illegal celebrations, and fighting.
- 30:44Speaker 4: A source familiar with the.
- 30:47Speaker 3: Views of the NFL and competition committee told front office sports.
- 30:51Speaker 4: So I'm glad to see them.
- 30:52Speaker 3: You know, you let some things go, but There's some
- 30:56Speaker 3: things you need to keep a, uh, keep a lid on.
- 30:58Speaker 4: Resdog. Resdog.
- 31:00Speaker 3: Complete silence on the mic is better than fine ball.
- 31:04Speaker 4: So he would just want it to be.
- 31:06Speaker 6: Just dead air.
- 31:07Speaker 4: Dead air. Nothing.
- 31:10Speaker 7: Nothing.
- 31:11Speaker 3: Hey, is it true if we just didn't say anything
- 31:12Speaker 3: that that would mess the signal up? Like we just,
- 31:14Speaker 3: something would happen to the system. Like we just sent here.
- 31:17Speaker 4: The system?
- 31:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:19Speaker 6: Hey, it would just sound crazy.
- 31:21Speaker 1: Okay.
- 31:23Speaker 5: We'd sound like we don't know what we're doing as
- 31:25Speaker 5: a radio station. When it's just sitting there.
- 31:28Speaker 4: Yeah. Hey, did you see Odell Beckham Jr. is expected
- 31:30Speaker 4: to make the 53-man of the Giants? My God.
- 31:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:36Speaker 3: OBJ is expected to make the 53-man as we're getting
- 31:39Speaker 3: ready for the final cuts in the NFL. Also, again,
- 31:44Speaker 3: Tennessee legend, Southern icon, Dolly Parton passes away today as
- 31:48Speaker 3: a man she was iconic.
- 31:50Speaker 4: Absolutely iconic. Also, speaking of LSU.
- 31:54Speaker 3: bringing in pro players, former Boston Celtics guard, RJ Louise
- 32:00Speaker 3: has been granted a preliminary injunction, becoming eligible to play
- 32:04Speaker 3: at LSU. LSU is just like, we don't care if
- 32:11Speaker 3: you've played pro ball, retired ball, prison ball across the pond,
- 32:16Speaker 3: but we'll take you go tigers. We'll, we'll teach you
- 32:20Speaker 3: how to spell G A U X, uh, And say,
- 32:23Speaker 3: go Tigers. We're brought to you by Ranco Transmission, 1460
- 32:25Speaker 3: Old Brandon Road in Flowood, 601-939-9184. 53 plus years, foreign
- 32:31Speaker 3: and domestic. Bill Bender coming up next.
- 32:32Speaker 1: Good afternoon. Good afternoon.
- 32:34Speaker 3: And welcome back to the Afternoon Drive with Jake Wimmerly,
- 32:37Speaker 3: where he's talking about anything and everything that's Mississippi sports.
- 32:40Speaker 2: No, great afternoon. Right here on ESPN 105.9 The Zone
- 32:44Speaker 2: and worldwide. Worldwide. On The Zone, 105.9.com.
- 32:58Speaker 3: Final segment on a two-hour show today, not a three-hour show,
- 33:01Speaker 3: brought to you by Gutter Masters, 601-503-7755. Custom gutters, solutions,
- 33:06Speaker 3: screen guards, and maintenance with our friends at Gutter Masters.
- 33:09Speaker 3: Bill Bender, kind enough to give us some time on
- 33:11Speaker 3: a schedule today. A lot of stuff going on. Of course,
- 33:14Speaker 3: the season is here. You can get him on X
- 33:16Speaker 3: at BillBender92 and on the Sporting News at SportingNewsOnX as well.
- 33:21Speaker 4: Senior writer for the Sporting News. Bill, happy Tuesday. How
- 33:23Speaker 4: are you?
- 33:24Speaker 7: I told Ben here in Ohio, it's been a long
- 33:27Speaker 7: week already and it's only Tuesday. So, you know, between
- 33:31Speaker 7: the Browns and Jed York, I mean, anything, I prefer
- 33:35Speaker 7: not to talk about those things, but you know, if
- 33:38Speaker 7: we can get into college football, probably make us feel
- 33:40Speaker 7: better here in Ohio.
- 33:41Speaker 4: Yeah, sure. We'll, we'll jump right into some college football.
- 33:44Speaker 3: Lane Kiffin looks to be the centerpiece again on a,
- 33:48Speaker 3: you know, very divisive topic. The NFL players coming back
- 33:52Speaker 3: to college. The Big Ten has already come out. Tony
- 33:55Speaker 3: Petitti says, hey, and I'm paraphrasing, we're not going to
- 33:58Speaker 3: let this happen in our league. There's going to be
- 34:00Speaker 3: some penalties and a penalty structure. If that happens, the
- 34:03Speaker 3: SEC is meeting today and tomorrow. A lot of people
- 34:06Speaker 3: feel like they'll follow suit. The Big 12 has made
- 34:08Speaker 3: comments that they'll follow suit. The ACC says they likely will. Bill,
- 34:13Speaker 3: this has got to be the way, right?
- 34:16Speaker 1: Yes, but.
- 34:17Speaker 7: when you try to look at it from the player's
- 34:19Speaker 7: perspective and not to bring the Browns back into the
- 34:21Speaker 7: conversation with Dick one, right. You know, I think this
- 34:26Speaker 7: could have been avoided had I get it because five
- 34:30Speaker 7: for five was enacted on June 23rd. I think what
- 34:33Speaker 7: the NFL and the college football should have done is
- 34:35Speaker 7: given players like a 10, 14 day window and say, Hey,
- 34:39Speaker 7: you know, you, you can go back, but you have
- 34:42Speaker 7: to do it in the next two weeks because once
- 34:44Speaker 7: you step foot in camp and And we got you
- 34:47Speaker 7: on there. They could have made an exemption for those
- 34:49Speaker 7: that were at rookie mini camps. It would have been messy, but,
- 34:52Speaker 7: but Jake, I really believe it would have been less messy.
- 34:55Speaker 7: And now we're in this situation. I do think the sec,
- 34:59Speaker 7: a big 12 ACC will follow suit. I also think
- 35:02Speaker 7: there'll probably be some lawsuits for, for some of those players. But, yeah,
- 35:08Speaker 7: it's just another one of those hiccups. And I hope
- 35:10Speaker 7: it's a one-year hiccup because I do think long-term the
- 35:15Speaker 7: five-for-five idea is going to work out.
- 35:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I like the way you said that because we
- 35:19Speaker 3: actually– you said, I hope it's a one-year issue, one-year deal,
- 35:22Speaker 3: because I made the comment yesterday. I said, hey, does
- 35:25Speaker 3: this go into next year? I mean, I know we're
- 35:27Speaker 3: supposed to get into the five-for-five, but does this kind
- 35:31Speaker 3: of propel itself into next season potentially?
- 35:34Speaker 7: Well, and that's just it. I hope not. And now,
- 35:37Speaker 7: you know, you and I have done this show, done
- 35:39Speaker 7: the show for a couple of years now. And I
- 35:41Speaker 7: know we've kind of openly talked about, okay, when, when
- 35:44Speaker 7: do you think a player that, you know, might be
- 35:47Speaker 7: a late round pick just kind of thinks, Hey, you know,
- 35:49Speaker 7: I might, I might make more money on campus this year,
- 35:52Speaker 7: and then goes and does that.
- 35:53Speaker 2: This is a.
- 35:54Speaker 7: Version of that. This is also a version of Charles
- 35:57Speaker 7: Bediako in college basketball last year. I know we talked
- 36:00Speaker 7: about that. But I think the NFL, had they done
- 36:04Speaker 7: it in such a way that was kind of like
- 36:07Speaker 7: the NBA draft, where a prospect can test the waters
- 36:10Speaker 7: a little bit, and then... you know, go back to
- 36:13Speaker 7: school before they're actually on the team or before they
- 36:16Speaker 7: sign a contract with the NFL team. Because I do
- 36:18Speaker 7: think there needs to be a clear distinction between what
- 36:22Speaker 7: is pro and what is college. And I'm going to
- 36:24Speaker 7: be honest, Jake, well, no reason to be honest about it.
- 36:27Speaker 7: Just the way it is that those lines are blurred.
- 36:31Speaker 4: No, they're absolutely blurred. We're visiting with Bill Bender.
- 36:34Speaker 3: You can get him on exit Bill Bender 92 and
- 36:35Speaker 3: check him out on the sporting news. Your thoughts on
- 36:38Speaker 3: Lane Kiffin. It doesn't look like at least today, that
- 36:41Speaker 3: he's backing down on this. He was on Pat McAfee
- 36:44Speaker 3: talking about this and of course had some candid comments of, Hey,
- 36:47Speaker 3: you know, what, what rules are we trying to follow?
- 36:49Speaker 3: I mean, he he's, you can tell he's following for this.
- 36:53Speaker 3: I mean, obviously he wants to win now and feels like, Hey,
- 36:55Speaker 3: if he can leverage this, he's going to leverage it.
- 36:59Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 36:59Speaker 7: And he's going to try to get good players and,
- 37:01Speaker 7: you know, Lane's going to become the face and there's,
- 37:04Speaker 7: let's be honest again, that it doesn't take much for,
- 37:07Speaker 7: certain college football fans to not like Lane Kiffin or
- 37:11Speaker 7: be against Lane Kiffin, but it sounds like he's going
- 37:13Speaker 7: to dig in here. I think he'll lose to Sankey.
- 37:17Speaker 7: I think he'll lose to the SEC and common sense
- 37:20Speaker 7: in a lot of ways, because again, here's the other
- 37:22Speaker 7: part of this. The season starts in four days. It
- 37:26Speaker 7: has already started, but we have games in like 96
- 37:30Speaker 7: hours or less than 96 hours at this point. So again,
- 37:35Speaker 7: You know, again, the timeline, what about the school piece
- 37:38Speaker 7: of this? So you're just going to, I don't, you
- 37:41Speaker 7: know what, I'm guilty of this. I know some colleges
- 37:45Speaker 7: have started in Ohio, obviously. I'm not sure around the country,
- 37:48Speaker 7: but I'm pretty sure a lot of colleges have started.
- 37:51Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 37:51Speaker 3: Yeah, here in Mississippi, I believe State and Ole Miss
- 37:53Speaker 3: are both back in session. All your junior colleges are
- 37:55Speaker 3: in session. We've got a few minutes left here with
- 37:57Speaker 3: Bill Bender. Bill, we do have football, North Carolina and TCU,
- 38:00Speaker 3: the highlight of the weekend.
- 38:01Speaker 4: Of course, there are some other games.
- 38:03Speaker 3: TCU is an eight-point favorite, not to get your betting advice,
- 38:06Speaker 3: unless you want to give it, but this just feels
- 38:08Speaker 3: like a situation where TCU wears North Carolina out.
- 38:11Speaker 5: Am I wrong?
- 38:13Speaker 7: Well, I got my picks coming out tomorrow, but I'll
- 38:15Speaker 7: tease that one for you. Maybe I just can't learn.
- 38:19Speaker 7: I'm like that kid that you tell them, my mom
- 38:22Speaker 7: used to tell me not to do something, and I'd
- 38:24Speaker 7: keep doing it. I'm going to pick North Carolina to
- 38:27Speaker 7: at least cover. I think they're going to hang around
- 38:29Speaker 7: in this game. One of the reasons why is and
- 38:31Speaker 7: getting that Dublin game overseas, the five of the last
- 38:34Speaker 7: six have been close. It's been ugly. I'm just, maybe
- 38:37Speaker 7: there's a little bit of faith that Belichick figured out
- 38:40Speaker 7: a little bit, but he, no doubt, no matter what happens,
- 38:43Speaker 7: that's going to be what we're talking about. Sunday morning
- 38:45Speaker 7: is did North Carolina look horrible again? Did they get beat? Uh,
- 38:50Speaker 7: you know, last year was like 48, 14. It was
- 38:52Speaker 7: a disaster, but, uh, we'll have a story about Belichick
- 38:56Speaker 7: coming out later in the week. And, you know, at
- 38:57Speaker 7: the end of the day, it's a, a week zero
- 38:59Speaker 7: game to overact, overreact to.
- 39:01Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 39:01Speaker 3: I've got several or several others, uh, on Saturday bookend, uh,
- 39:05Speaker 3: with a late game Memphis at UNLV.
- 39:06Speaker 4: I'm intrigued by that one.
- 39:09Speaker 7: I think you should be. It's a really good G
- 39:11Speaker 7: six game, two teams that could be in the playoff
- 39:14Speaker 7: mix for those. You know what? Uh, the first couple
- 39:16Speaker 7: of weeks are good for Jake in a lot of
- 39:18Speaker 7: ways is, uh, Hey, I forgot about that guy. And
- 39:21Speaker 7: in this case, it's going to be Jackson Arnold, the
- 39:23Speaker 7: two-time transfer from Oklahoma and Auburn. See, it took me
- 39:29Speaker 7: a second. And now he's going to be the UNLV
- 39:32Speaker 7: quarterback and he's backed up by Alex Orji, the guy
- 39:35Speaker 7: that played at Michigan. So Dan Mullen's got some talent
- 39:38Speaker 7: there and I think they're going to work with it.
- 39:41Speaker 7: Should be a fun game and you got to stay
- 39:43Speaker 7: up late to watch it. That means like technically we're here.
- 39:46Speaker 7: If you're staying up past midnight or one o'clock on
- 39:49Speaker 7: a Saturday night, watch college football. That means he's here.
- 39:52Speaker 3: There is no doubt. Make sure to follow him on
- 39:54Speaker 3: X at BillBender92. Get him at the Sporting News. Bill,
- 39:56Speaker 3: appreciate your time on a short schedule.
- 39:59Speaker 4: We'll talk next week. It'll be week one. I can't wait.
- 40:01Speaker 7: Hey, Jake, I appreciate you. Thanks for working with me.
- 40:03Speaker 7: I'll talk to you next week.
- 40:04Speaker 4: Appreciate it. Thank you.
- 40:05Speaker 3: Bill Bender on your radio real quick. Smitty says, hey,
- 40:08Speaker 3: I'm an LSU fan, but I don't agree. With what
- 40:10Speaker 3: we've done lately, Lane is an ass, but he's our ass.
- 40:13Speaker 3: He says, I'm just glad I placed a good future
- 40:15Speaker 3: bet at Ameristar on my team.
- 40:17Speaker 4: And St.
- 40:18Speaker 3: Louis Vic says, forget Bobby Boucher, LSU, or Lush, as
- 40:23Speaker 3: they assume will be known as, might as well grab
- 40:25Speaker 3: Paul Wrecking Crew. Hey, appreciate B, appreciate Bill Bender. Remember,
- 40:29Speaker 3: ketchup is king, bacon's a delicacy, aloha means goodbye. Be
- 40:32Speaker 3: a man of increase. We're out of here a little
- 40:33Speaker 3: early today.
- 40:34Speaker 4: We'll see you tomorrow. It'll be Wednesday. Good night.
