Transcript
- 0:00It's Monday morning. Your alarm clock goes off. You drag
- 0:04yourself up out of bed. You get your kids fed. Get them dressed
- 0:09out the door. Rush, rush, rush. You get through the week. You're
- 0:14counting down to Friday. You count down to the next vacation.
- 0:18You count down to when the kids are older, when things calm
- 0:21down, and when you can finally breathe, and everyone around you
- 0:25is doing the same exact thing, complaining about how tired they
- 0:29are, how draining it all is, and then signing right back up for
- 0:34it every single week, and you're sitting there like, "Am I the
- 0:39only one who thinks this is fucking insane? You're not, and
- 0:43that's why this podcast exists. Hi, I'm Ginger, and welcome to
- 0:47Wild Soul Alchemy. This show is for the mom who doesn't have it
- 0:51all mapped out. You don't have a perfect picture of the life you
- 0:54want, but the way we're told to live, you grind all week, you
- 0:59wait for your PTO. You hope life slows down someday so you can
- 1:05finally enjoy it. You aren't the only one who feels like it's
- 1:08bullshit. You just can't figure out why everyone keeps signing
- 1:12up for it. If that's you, pull up a chair. You're in the right
- 1:16place. So how I got here, and I'm going to talk about some
- 1:20heavy stuff, including a time I didn't want to be here after
- 1:25high school. I got my accounting degree because it came easy to
- 1:28me. Numbers made sense, and when I did that career aptitude test
- 1:35that they give us in high school and told us which jobs we'd be
- 1:38good at and interested in, it led that way. Then I did my
- 1:42internship and fell asleep at my desk every single day. Eight
- 1:48hours of sitting still minus the 60-minute lunch, and it was
- 1:52torturous. I thought there was something wrong with me, and I
- 1:55needed to just suck it up because we're adults and we have
- 1:59to be responsible, right? I got married. I had the kids. We had
- 2:04a really nice neighborhood, and the house was big. We always had
- 2:09cookouts. We kept the yard perfectly manicured. The
- 2:13driveway was lined with nice vehicles. My kids were in
- 2:17whatever sports they wanted to be in. We went to all the school
- 2:20functions together. We made damn sure that our family looked like
- 2:24we had our shit together. I worked hard on making the kids
- 2:29shrink. Don't be too loud. Don't annoy people with things that
- 2:33don't interest them. The point was to just fit in and be seen
- 2:38as classy but easy to digest, because I thought how people saw
- 2:42us would decide how easy life was for them, and I didn't have
- 2:46an easy childhood. On paper, we had more than most people around
- 2:50us, but yet I still felt empty, and I was miserable. I wanted to
- 2:55escape this earth every day. I spent my days trying to figure
- 2:59out how I would escape a planned fatal accident. That way, my
- 3:03kids didn't think that it was had anything to do with them.
- 3:08But I was afraid that I would become disabled and a bigger
- 3:11burden to them. So, after about a year of actively thinking
- 3:16about this, I woke up one day and I was like, "This is
- 3:19bullshit. I can't leave my kids here on Earth to fight by
- 3:23themselves. I don't even want to be here. So I was always a
- 3:28problem solver, and instead of spending my energy trying to
- 3:33escape this Earth, I decided I was going to figure out how to
- 3:38build a life that I didn't want to escape from anymore. That was
- 3:41a little over 10 years ago. I'm still on that journey. I'm still
- 3:45building. And here's the thing: I didn't suddenly know what I
- 3:49wanted instead of the life I was living. I had no clue. What I
- 3:52did know was that I couldn't keep living for the weekend. I
- 3:55couldn't keep putting my actual life on hold until some magical
- 3:59someday when it would all slow down, so I started asking
- 4:03questions like, "Who decided this is how life has to go? Who
- 4:07made that rule, and will they come say it to my face? Because
- 4:11most of the time, nobody's coming, nobody's enforcing it.
- 4:15We're all just doing it because everyone else is.
- 4:19I've had other Dark Knights of the Soul since then, and I've
- 4:23shed so many different versions of me, which you'll hear about
- 4:27throughout the season. Every version of me held on too long
- 4:30to whatever plan I created, and that held me back. So I really
- 4:34don't plan much anymore. I learned the biggest cause of
- 4:37disappointment was having expectations. Anyways, speaking
- 4:41of expectations, though, here's what the show is going to be.
- 4:45I'm not going to tell you how to live your life. I don't have a
- 4:48blueprint for you, and honestly, you don't need one. Remember,
- 4:52expectations, plans fall apart, anyways. So you don't have to
- 4:57have the whole picture figured out just to start. You just need
- 5:00to be willing to question the picture you were handed. We're
- 5:04going to talk about the rules you never agreed to, the
- 5:07struggles of wanting something different, and what it looks
- 5:11like to build a life you don't want to escape from. One
- 5:14question at a time. It's going to be real. Sometimes messy,
- 5:18sometimes I'll swear because I'm not here to be polished. I'm
- 5:22here to be honest. So if there's one thing you're going to hear
- 5:24me say over and over on the show, it's only one way to find
- 5:29out. I say it to my friends. I say it even to my kid. I say it
- 5:34to myself about 50 times a week, and I want to tell you why. I
- 5:37think it's the one thing about my spirit I've never watered
- 5:41down through all of this, and that's exactly what we're going
- 5:44to get into the next episode. So go listen to that one right now
- 5:51before you go. I want to say something. I shared some really
- 5:55dark stuff today, heavy. I shared it because I know some of
- 5:59you are sitting where I was sitting, and sometimes I still
- 6:03visit. You're smiling at the cookout. You're smiling on the
- 6:06outside. You look like you have it all together, but you're
- 6:09still quietly wanting to escape this earth. And if that's you,
- 6:13please hear me. You are not a burden. Your kids need you here,
- 6:18and so does the version of you that hasn't been born yet. So
- 6:22please reach out to someone. If you're in the U.S. you can call
- 6:25or text 988 at any time. You don't have to have the words
- 6:29figured out. Just reach out. I didn't think there was a way
- 6:32through. There was. I'm still building it 10 years later, and
- 6:36I am so glad I stayed to see it. Come find me on Instagram at
- 6:42Wild Soul Alchemy, and if part of my soul-I'm sorry, my story
- 6:47felt like yours-leave me a message. I read every one. Let
- 6:51me know where it resonated. Stay curious. Stay wild. Toodles.
