Transcript
- 0:06Speaker 1: It is to Godson Company, presented by FanDuel and the
- 0:08Speaker 1: FanDuel Sportsbook. Jimmy Hart, the Mouth of the South, is
- 0:12Speaker 1: going to join us coming up in about ten to
- 0:14Speaker 1: fifteen minutes to talk about the Whole Cogan documentary coming
- 0:17Speaker 1: out on Netflix. I am fascinated with Hogan. Taylor has
- 0:20Speaker 1: a fun fact four Whole Cogan. We'll get to that
- 0:23Speaker 1: in just a second. But is he We have two
- 0:25Speaker 1: play in games tonight. We are rooting for the Hornets.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Our show has decided to get behind the Charlotte Hornets
- 0:30Speaker 1: and Large Bar because Taylor said they are going for
- 0:33Speaker 1: it right now, and he said it before anyone else.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Once we get through these two games, we have great
- 0:39Speaker 1: I'm serious. Is he very intriguing first round matchups in
- 0:43Speaker 1: the NBA Playoffs? And I'm wondering here For me, it's
- 0:47Speaker 1: Hawks and Knicks. But I am wondering, what is the
- 0:49Speaker 1: most intriguing opening round matchup for you for the NBA Playoffs?
- 0:54Speaker 2: Well, before I answer that, I don't know, how do
- 0:57Speaker 2: I have to be locked into this Hornets fandom tonight?
- 1:00Speaker 2: Because yeah, I know, yeah, I know, Taylor and I
- 1:04Speaker 2: have been saying, you know, America's team they're going forward,
- 1:06Speaker 2: et cetera. But my tone might have changed after that
- 1:10Speaker 2: first playing game where Lavolo Ball got a flagrant too
- 1:13Speaker 2: somehow after the game what's up to?
- 1:15Speaker 1: Right? Yeah?
- 1:16Speaker 3: My Charlotte Hornet's take too was revisionist history, almost like
- 1:20Speaker 3: when a a guy gets hurt and he starts saying like, oh,
- 1:24Speaker 3: I could have been this, I could have been this.
- 1:26Speaker 3: I had X amount when you know people aren't going
- 1:29Speaker 3: to go back and fact check them. Because I went
- 1:31Speaker 3: back and I listened to the take, and I kind
- 1:33Speaker 3: of asked it as a question because Izzy was on
- 1:36Speaker 3: Radio Row during the NBA trade deadline and Dan Bayer
- 1:40Speaker 3: just announced that the Hornets were trading for Kobe White,
- 1:43Speaker 3: and Izzy I just asked, you, are the Charlotte Hornets
- 1:46Speaker 3: going for it?
- 1:47Speaker 1: Yeah? Well it was a question. But once it, you know,
- 1:49Speaker 1: once they started to go for it and put together
- 1:52Speaker 1: a winning streak and it looked like they were going
- 1:53Speaker 1: to make the playoffs, then you have to own it.
- 1:55Speaker 1: It's no longer a question. It's a statement. You know
- 1:57Speaker 1: what I'm saying.
- 1:57Speaker 4: That's what I believe I answered, which is typical.
- 2:00Speaker 2: I answered your question with a question, right, didn't I
- 2:02Speaker 2: say going for what exactly?
- 2:04Speaker 1: Yes, when do you ever answer a question?
- 2:06Speaker 3: I mean, so, when when you said going for what,
- 2:10Speaker 3: the next thing you said was going for the playing game?
- 2:14Speaker 2: Okay, right, they made it to the playing game. In fact,
- 2:18Speaker 2: they made it to a second playing game. They could
- 2:21Speaker 2: be playing with house money right now. They probably feel
- 2:24Speaker 2: like they've accomplished what they needed to accomplish.
- 2:25Speaker 4: And frankly, they got.
- 2:27Speaker 2: A moment out of Kobe White like that that seems
- 2:29Speaker 2: like it's it's done deal for them, because I don't
- 2:32Speaker 2: know if I want them to win tonight.
- 2:34Speaker 1: And really that's terrible.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Well, it's it's just as much about LaMelo Ball as much.
- 2:41Speaker 2: I also just think that they're going to get their
- 2:44Speaker 2: ass handed to them by the Detroit Pistons, and I
- 2:46Speaker 2: think it's going to be sort of a wake up
- 2:48Speaker 2: call for them, and I'd rather just, you know, let
- 2:50Speaker 2: the fantasy exist and see what could have happened, and
- 2:54Speaker 2: maybe they just lose to Orlando because.
- 2:55Speaker 1: It was a bad day.
- 2:56Speaker 2: So it's a step for you, is that the way
- 2:59Speaker 2: you're well, the play is definitely a step for them.
- 3:02Speaker 2: If they were to lose in a fashion where let's
- 3:04Speaker 2: just say LaMelo Ball has a bad game tonight, So
- 3:06Speaker 2: you've got him kind of I wouldn't say embarrassing the organization,
- 3:10Speaker 2: but not a great look for the trip on Bam
- 3:13Speaker 2: out of Bio, and then you'd have a backup or
- 3:15Speaker 2: a follow up game where he doesn't perform very well,
- 3:18Speaker 2: and he didn't shoot it very well in that first
- 3:20Speaker 2: playing game either. I think he would have to go
- 3:22Speaker 2: into the offseason with a lot of serious questions that
- 3:24Speaker 2: perhaps with the first time ever some pressure on LaMelo
- 3:28Speaker 2: Ball to wake the heck up and be a more
- 3:32Speaker 2: traditional acting superstar and not playing sort of the playground
- 3:37Speaker 2: way that he plays sometimes.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Till you see what's going on here. The show has
- 3:40Speaker 1: gotten behind the Charlotte Hornets. The Hornets haven't been good
- 3:44Speaker 1: in a long long time, they haven't been relevant in
- 3:47Speaker 1: a long long time, and he is still hanging on
- 3:50Speaker 1: to what LaMelo Ball did to Bam in that game,
- 3:52Speaker 1: even though Spo has told everyone, hey, let it go,
- 3:57Speaker 1: let it Spo. How about that.
- 4:01Speaker 3: I'm on i Isy's side though, because yes, the Hornets
- 4:06Speaker 3: are a fun story. But if what happened to my
- 4:10Speaker 3: team happened to is he with the Miami Heat where
- 4:14Speaker 3: you feel like one a player got away with something
- 4:17Speaker 3: he very clearly shouldn't have. Two, they took out your
- 4:20Speaker 3: best player in the process, and three were the team
- 4:23Speaker 3: that eliminated you. I'd give them the double birds too
- 4:26Speaker 3: every time I saw them take the court.
- 4:28Speaker 2: It's not like he tripped Pella Larson or if he
- 4:31Speaker 2: would have done me a favorite Tommy Hockins.
- 4:33Speaker 4: Instead, he dripped Pam.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Out of Bayo.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Okay, the nicest superstar in the league that everybody likes. Okay,
- 4:39Speaker 2: and now he got a little hatred between LaMelo and Bam.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Bam doesn't hate anybody.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Yeah, but I just love that the heat head coach
- 4:44Speaker 1: has decided to let it go. A heat fan will
- 4:47Speaker 1: not let it go. And now what a nick fan
- 4:49Speaker 1: is joining in and not letting it go.
- 4:50Speaker 2: I mean, if I can clear, I'm not it's not
- 4:53Speaker 2: that I'm not letting go and saying, Hey, that guy
- 4:56Speaker 2: needs needs to pay for his you know, his wrongdoing.
- 5:00Speaker 2: What I'm saying is, if we're going to get the
- 5:02Speaker 2: best out of lamellow Ball, if he's ever going to
- 5:05Speaker 2: shake out of you know, the style of play that
- 5:07Speaker 2: he plays, now you gotta start applying the pressure to him.
- 5:10Speaker 2: If he has these back to back you know, less
- 5:13Speaker 2: than great play in games goes into the next season,
- 5:16Speaker 2: Everybody staring at him say, hey, you're the reason why
- 5:18Speaker 2: we didn't make the playoffs.
- 5:20Speaker 4: Maybe we get a different version of him next season.
- 5:22Speaker 3: And the NBA desperately needs rivalries. You have a budding
- 5:26Speaker 3: rivalry with the Spurs and the Thunder. You have the
- 5:29Speaker 3: Knicks and the Pacers. Feels like somewhat of a rivalry,
- 5:32Speaker 3: especially when those two teams meet in the playoffs. You
- 5:35Speaker 3: have the Knicks and the Hawks, feels like somewhat of
- 5:37Speaker 3: a rivalry, even though you lost the Trey Young aspect,
- 5:40Speaker 3: but Knicks fans will chance Tree Young and until that's
- 5:43Speaker 3: the big aspect.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Though, I mean you lost it. It's it's it's in
- 5:46Speaker 1: Washington now.
- 5:47Speaker 3: I mean yeah, but once once game one tips off
- 5:50Speaker 3: on Saturday and it tips off in the Garden with
- 5:54Speaker 3: f Trey Young, chance, we're picking. We're picking that rivalry
- 5:57Speaker 3: back up. So what the NBA might need here is
- 6:00Speaker 3: heat Hornets to become this next great rivalry for the
- 6:03Speaker 3: next five plast this division.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Baby, you can't have a great rivalry with two play
- 6:08Speaker 1: it in team So I mean for next year, though,
- 6:11Speaker 1: you know when the Hornets pick up somebody and the
- 6:13Speaker 1: heat maybe get you. Honest, you got a rivalry going there.
- 6:16Speaker 1: But uh yeah, I definitely think that he can't just
- 6:20Speaker 1: continue to be rewarded for this.
- 6:22Speaker 2: He's got some something that has gotta happen so that
- 6:24Speaker 2: he can sort of shake himself out of it.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Yeah, So which series are the most excited for you?
- 6:29Speaker 1: Thank you?
- 6:29Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, to answer your question.
- 6:32Speaker 2: And it's funny that that Taylor mentioned, you know, Victor
- 6:34Speaker 2: wemmen Yama versus the Thunder.
- 6:36Speaker 4: I think it's Victor Weman Yama.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Versus everybody, Like he's had to create a rivalry versus everybody.
- 6:41Speaker 2: So I'm intrigued to watch him play against the Trailblazers
- 6:43Speaker 2: just because it's going to be his first you know,
- 6:45Speaker 2: playoff experience, et cetera.
- 6:47Speaker 4: But my favorite has to be Timberwolves Nuggets.
- 6:51Speaker 2: You're getting like the Nuggets are the better team, they
- 6:56Speaker 2: have the better player, but somehow Anthony Edwards and the
- 7:00Speaker 2: Timberwolves are a bad matchup for them. And there's just
- 7:03Speaker 2: something about Anthony Edwards and his just his attitude and
- 7:08Speaker 2: his approach that you know, I can beat anybody, and
- 7:11Speaker 2: you know when you look at that his supporting cast.
- 7:13Speaker 2: When you look at everything that he's done, it's like, yeah,
- 7:15Speaker 2: he's He's that guy that's elevating his team. And so
- 7:18Speaker 2: you can one hundred percent see him carrying the Timberwolves
- 7:22Speaker 2: potentially past the Nuggets, which one I would say be
- 7:25Speaker 2: a crazy, big upset, but it's the most reasonable upset
- 7:29Speaker 2: that I would say in that Western Conference.
- 7:32Speaker 1: I agree with you. I think that series is along
- 7:35Speaker 1: with Nixon Hawks, those are the two most intriguing series
- 7:38Speaker 1: of the opening round. Unless Golden State wins and they
- 7:42Speaker 1: face Oklahoma City, I want to see that.
- 7:44Speaker 2: You know, that's another thing, right, So tonight you've got
- 7:48Speaker 2: the Dylan Brooks versus versus Steph Curry and it's it's
- 7:53Speaker 2: tough to envision Phoenix losing back to back home games
- 7:56Speaker 2: in his play in after losing to Portland in a
- 7:58Speaker 2: tight one. So it's going to be a tough game.
- 8:00Speaker 2: But man, do we need the Warriors to win that game?
- 8:03Speaker 1: Man?
- 8:03Speaker 2: Do we need Steph Curry to just put some fear
- 8:06Speaker 2: of God into the Oka see thunder Like, I just
- 8:09Speaker 2: need to see that matchup.
- 8:10Speaker 4: I need to see how many MVPs the Steph have two.
- 8:14Speaker 2: I need to see the guys that are probably gonna
- 8:16Speaker 2: have two m vps because Shay's gonna have his second
- 8:20Speaker 2: at the end of this year.
- 8:22Speaker 4: So yeah, that that would be a crazy great matchup.
- 8:24Speaker 2: And you know, I said that Minnesota beating Denver would
- 8:28Speaker 2: be a great upset or the most reasonable upset. This
- 8:31Speaker 2: one would be a shocker, don't get me wrong, but
- 8:34Speaker 2: it wouldn't like I wouldn't be that shocked if Steph.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Goes on, you know, goes on a heater Jimmy Hart
- 8:40Speaker 1: Mouth of the South, were you went to wrestling growing up?
- 8:42Speaker 1: Busy a little bit, but not that much. But are
- 8:47Speaker 1: you intrigued by Hulk Hogan?
- 8:50Speaker 2: I was as a child, and his rise to fame
- 8:54Speaker 2: is intrigued. I haven't seen the documentary yet, but anybody's
- 8:57Speaker 2: rise to fame is always intriguing, just from a like
- 8:59Speaker 2: a societal all.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Right, well, I'm still a kid. Taylor has a fun
- 9:02Speaker 1: fact here about Hulk Cogan. I'm told what is the
- 9:05Speaker 1: fun fact?
- 9:06Speaker 3: Hulk Hogan was born in Augusta, Georgia.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Oh wow, home of the Masters. How about that thunderlips
- 9:19Speaker 1: Hulk Hogan. There's a documentary coming out four port series
- 9:24Speaker 1: on Hulk Cogan, his rise to superstardom and Jimmy Hart
- 9:29Speaker 1: Mouth of the South, one of his best friends, going
- 9:31Speaker 1: to join us next. What a smile. This man's face
- 9:42Speaker 1: brought to me seriously, just seeing his face brings me
- 9:45Speaker 1: back to my childhood. Jimmy the Mouth of the South,
- 9:48Speaker 1: Heart Hulk's longtime manager and closest friend throughout his career.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Real American on Netflix comes out on April twenty second.
- 9:55Speaker 1: It's a four park docuseries. I was talking to Jimmy
- 9:59Speaker 1: right before we started, and he went right into manager mode,
- 10:01Speaker 1: right into promotional mode, because that's all he does. It
- 10:04Speaker 1: was unbelievable, Jimmy, it really was.
- 10:05Speaker 5: Thank you, hey, that's my life. That's what I've always done,
- 10:09Speaker 5: you know, music, and of course we're wrestling, you know,
- 10:12Speaker 5: are wrestling and music. So it's all been great. Man,
- 10:14Speaker 5: Thank you all for having a song.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Thank you man. You're at Where are you right.
- 10:18Speaker 5: Now, Las Vegas? Man, we're right here at the MGM Graham.
- 10:23Speaker 5: We've got all the rooms fixed up. We got over
- 10:25Speaker 5: six or seven hundred people here from the office and everything, celebrities, stars, surprises,
- 10:31Speaker 5: So it's going to be a great, great, great Wrestlmingia.
- 10:34Speaker 5: These next couple of Days.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Jimmy, What can you tell people about Real American? On
- 10:38Speaker 1: Netflix again? It comes out April twenty second. It's a
- 10:41Speaker 1: four part docuseries. It's the definitive documentary on your friend,
- 10:46Speaker 1: one of your best friends, hul kogin what can you
- 10:48Speaker 1: tell people about it? About it to get him excited
- 10:50Speaker 1: for it?
- 10:52Speaker 5: Well, we got a little taste of it last night.
- 10:54Speaker 5: Seven months in the making, believe that or not, but
- 10:57Speaker 5: we had a little taste of it last night for
- 10:59Speaker 5: all the fans here at Wrestle World and Triple H
- 11:03Speaker 5: even came out and they unveld a great, beautiful, brand
- 11:06Speaker 5: new statue of the Hawksterre to go next to Andre
- 11:08Speaker 5: the Giant when we put a Hall of Fame together.
- 11:10Speaker 5: But I got to see an hour of one, the
- 11:12Speaker 5: one of the episodes, and it was phenomenal. I couldn't
- 11:15Speaker 5: believe how great Netflix the company has really jumped in
- 11:18Speaker 5: and put this whole thing together. And plus it's really
- 11:20Speaker 5: the last interview that Hulk really ever, did you know?
- 11:24Speaker 1: Yeah, can you talk about Hulk and what he meant
- 11:27Speaker 1: to wrestling and the growth of wrestling?
- 11:31Speaker 5: Wow? You know people always said said how you and
- 11:33Speaker 5: help become friends and we started in Memphis, Tennessee, together
- 11:36Speaker 5: with Jerry the King Laughter in the local wrestling territory
- 11:39Speaker 5: many many years ago. But I realized back then, if
- 11:42Speaker 5: you want to stay with Huk huw can I have
- 11:43Speaker 5: been friends for so many years because I never borrowed
- 11:45Speaker 5: money from him, and I always told him the truth
- 11:48Speaker 5: when he asked me something, even though I put a
- 11:49Speaker 5: little bit of sugar on it.
- 11:50Speaker 1: How many people were reaching in the Hulk's pockets trying
- 11:53Speaker 1: to grab money.
- 11:54Speaker 5: Oh my gosh, man, every time he reached forwards bill
- 11:56Speaker 5: full he found somebody's hand back there. It was crazy,
- 12:00Speaker 5: that's all, you know. Had it is with any kind
- 12:02Speaker 5: of celebrities. You know, hey, what have you done for
- 12:04Speaker 5: me lately? You know whatever, So it's all crazy. But
- 12:08Speaker 5: but Huck always tried to help him out. We have
- 12:10Speaker 5: a few of our wrestling fans that have fallen by
- 12:12Speaker 5: the wayside financial a little bit, but they'd always call
- 12:14Speaker 5: Hulk for it. Hulk would always give him the money
- 12:16Speaker 5: and we'll give it back to you, Hug. But Huk
- 12:18Speaker 5: never asked for it and they never asked to give
- 12:20Speaker 5: it back. So again, but it made him happy. That
- 12:23Speaker 5: was okay, Jimmy, When you've reached that level of fame.
- 12:26Speaker 5: Was it tough for Hulk to separate where Hulk Hogan
- 12:30Speaker 5: the character ends and where Terry the person kind of began?
- 12:35Speaker 5: You know, No, he was really always on. He believed
- 12:37Speaker 5: that the old thing is, you know, if you turn
- 12:39Speaker 5: down one, you could sign five hundred autographs, but if
- 12:42Speaker 5: you turn down one, that's the one that'll be on
- 12:44Speaker 5: the internet. That's the one to be going, Hulk Hogan,
- 12:46Speaker 5: you signed my autograph of ever better go? Well, you
- 12:48Speaker 5: hate Halt because he didn't sign the little kid's autograph,
- 12:50Speaker 5: you know, but they forget you're there for five or
- 12:53Speaker 5: six hours doing stuff, and so we just to get
- 12:55Speaker 5: out of there all the time. But we try to
- 12:56Speaker 5: make sure that everybody that came out got a chance
- 12:59Speaker 5: to have an auto grap by the hooks or sometimes
- 13:01Speaker 5: it couldn't work out because we were in you know,
- 13:03Speaker 5: we had an X amount of time for one place,
- 13:05Speaker 5: and they scooted everybody off to another place. You know.
- 13:07Speaker 5: But he tried to do the best he could while
- 13:10Speaker 5: he could. But uh, you know, ninety nine percent of
- 13:12Speaker 5: the people loved him, and that's you know, that's all
- 13:14Speaker 5: you can do. You can't please everyone. So you got
- 13:16Speaker 5: to please yourself, right.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Yes, sir, Jimmy, what's the biggest misperception about Hulkgan that
- 13:21Speaker 1: you would like to kind of clear up here? Oh?
- 13:25Speaker 5: The first thing I'll tell you right off the bat.
- 13:27Speaker 5: When we did we were out in California doing one
- 13:30Speaker 5: of the raws I believe, and we came back out
- 13:33Speaker 5: and Hulk got booed. You know, he said, Jimmy Hart's
- 13:35Speaker 5: the one that got booed. He wore that stupid jacket.
- 13:37Speaker 1: I said, what would me?
- 13:38Speaker 5: But what happened? We're Bruce State, Red state, Okay. So
- 13:42Speaker 5: as we got out of the van, some kids were
- 13:44Speaker 5: there going, we love you, hook, but but you love
- 13:47Speaker 5: Donald Trump, you know, So we knew we were in trouble.
- 13:49Speaker 5: And he did some pre interviews with Trump vance T
- 13:52Speaker 5: shirt on, you know, and so we knew what was
- 13:54Speaker 5: going to happen. So once that happened, but then everybody
- 13:57Speaker 5: picked up on it, going, oh, his career's over. What
- 14:00Speaker 5: would the people booing him for? Come on, are you stupid?
- 14:03Speaker 5: Of course he was being booed because of his apilation
- 14:06Speaker 5: affiliation with Donald Trump. But Hut didn't mind. That's just
- 14:08Speaker 5: the way it was, you know, that but that's what
- 14:11Speaker 5: really happened on top of it. But for some reason,
- 14:14Speaker 5: every time we do an interview, people want to say, no,
- 14:16Speaker 5: I'm sure it because the next night we're in Dallas, Texas.
- 14:19Speaker 5: Everybody loved him, you know, and me, I just kept
- 14:22Speaker 5: waving the flag.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Man.
- 14:23Speaker 5: I was like, I felt like I was with a
- 14:24Speaker 5: heart foundation against the British Bulldogs.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Bringing me back to the eighties, man, Stu.
- 14:33Speaker 3: I was watching the trailer for the docuseries that is
- 14:36Speaker 3: about to come out, and the staple for any documentary
- 14:40Speaker 3: to show how hard you partied in the nineties Dennis Rodman.
- 14:44Speaker 3: Dennis Rodman was featured in the trailer Jimmy how Hard?
- 14:48Speaker 3: How hard did you whole Hogan? Dennis Rodman, all those
- 14:51Speaker 3: guys kind of party in the nineties.
- 14:54Speaker 5: Well, I'll be honest with you, I was a designated
- 14:56Speaker 5: driver because I don't even I don't not that they did,
- 14:58Speaker 5: but I don't even drink. I don't even new drugs.
- 15:00Speaker 5: I'm like, see him punk. Both of us were squeaky
- 15:03Speaker 5: clean on that. But uh, but uh, you know Dennis
- 15:06Speaker 5: when he was playing with the Bulls and we had
- 15:07Speaker 5: him for the nWo down there, the coach of the
- 15:09Speaker 5: bulls kept calling going Wor's, Dennis Wor's, Dinnis he missed practice?
- 15:13Speaker 5: He should be there, you know, And of course Hunk
- 15:16Speaker 5: would talk to him and go, we'll have him there,
- 15:17Speaker 5: would have him there, and I think the day the
- 15:19Speaker 5: day were on their first game, Dennis came back in
- 15:21Speaker 5: there and practice with him. But they were worried he
- 15:22Speaker 5: wasn't going to show up for it because he loved wrestling,
- 15:25Speaker 5: you know, he really did. But uh, it turned out great.
- 15:28Speaker 5: It all worked out with the nWo, it sure did.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Uh did Hulk ever party with Andre the Giants in Japan?
- 15:36Speaker 5: Because you had to be in good with Andre if
- 15:38Speaker 5: you didn't, whoo, but you were in troub ball. I
- 15:42Speaker 5: made sure on all the dressing rooms that Andre was
- 15:44Speaker 5: in with me. The first thing I do as soon
- 15:45Speaker 5: as I got the building, Hey, Andre, do you need ething?
- 15:48Speaker 1: No?
- 15:48Speaker 5: Boss, Okay, thank you, you know, but I made sure
- 15:52Speaker 5: we wanted to stay in good with But Andre was
- 15:54Speaker 5: a sweetheart.
- 15:54Speaker 1: He was great in terms of wrestlers. Jimmy, who was
- 15:57Speaker 1: Hulk closest with.
- 16:00Speaker 5: I think Andre. He loved Andre. He loved Randy Savage,
- 16:03Speaker 5: Him and Randy and there's a big thing out there
- 16:05Speaker 5: that him and Randy hated each other towards the end. No, no, no,
- 16:07Speaker 5: that's that's so stupid. You know, they were gonna have
- 16:10Speaker 5: a big barbecue right before Randy a couple of days
- 16:12Speaker 5: before Randy, uh you know, had the wreck unfortunately, but
- 16:16Speaker 5: they had saw each other at one of the doctor's offices.
- 16:19Speaker 5: Huck was arroganting his back work do on it. I
- 16:21Speaker 5: think Randy was there because he brought his mother or
- 16:24Speaker 5: somebody in. But uh, but uh, that's kind of a
- 16:26Speaker 5: myth on that. But he loved Roddy Roddy Piper, he
- 16:29Speaker 5: loved Andre of course, and uh, there was you know,
- 16:33Speaker 5: a lot of times we'd have big uh get togethers
- 16:36Speaker 5: back in the early days of wrestling over at one
- 16:38Speaker 5: of the Hook's beach houses and everybody came out. He
- 16:41Speaker 5: had have the boats out and and just uh, just
- 16:43Speaker 5: everybody had a great time doing that.
- 16:46Speaker 3: Jimmy, I'm I'm newish to the sports talk game, but
- 16:49Speaker 3: I see a lot of similarities between WWE and sports
- 16:53Speaker 3: talk host with the ability to cut a promo or
- 16:56Speaker 3: give a a hot take when it comes to sports.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Why how are you right now out to co host
- 17:00Speaker 1: the show with me? Taylor. I'm telling you the guy's
- 17:02Speaker 1: good man. Seriously, he's the mouth of the South.
- 17:05Speaker 3: I mean, Jimmy, what would be your best tips for
- 17:08Speaker 3: somebody who who maybe lacks a little confidence but has
- 17:12Speaker 3: to be able to turn a switch.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Yes, he's talking about himself, Jimmy, Yes, you know what.
- 17:16Speaker 5: But you're right about the host of it, because look
- 17:18Speaker 5: at Pat McAfee, look at Steven A. Smith. All these
- 17:21Speaker 5: guys are really up tempo, over the top doing stuff.
- 17:23Speaker 5: But people like that. I'm sure the ratings are great
- 17:25Speaker 5: or they wouldn't be on the air doing it. But
- 17:28Speaker 5: you know what, it's just I think if you just
- 17:30Speaker 5: be yourself, people always ask me, Jimmy, what are you
- 17:33Speaker 5: always dress colorful? Because back in the early days when
- 17:36Speaker 5: I had my group, the Gentries, back then we had
- 17:38Speaker 5: a Milia Soller called Keep on Dancing. We did all
- 17:39Speaker 5: the tours with Dick Clark were we were kind of
- 17:42Speaker 5: the opening app for Chicago or the Grassroots, or Stepping
- 17:45Speaker 5: Wolf or or the Beach Boys. We did a lot
- 17:48Speaker 5: of stuff with the Beach Boys back then, with Dick
- 17:49Speaker 5: Clark promotions. Dick Clark told us into a room one
- 17:52Speaker 5: night and that's what he said, he said, well, you're
- 17:54Speaker 5: on that stage. Remember one thing, give the people their
- 17:57Speaker 5: money's worth. If you dress like the audience, one day,
- 18:00Speaker 5: you're going to wind up sitting in the audience. So
- 18:03Speaker 5: I always remember that. So when I went into WW
- 18:06Speaker 5: or Memphis Championship Wrestling or WCW, I always wore the
- 18:09Speaker 5: crazy Wild jackets, you know, because I always remember what
- 18:12Speaker 5: Dick Clark had told me.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Jimmy, did Hulk ever tell you about the George forming
- 18:17Speaker 1: grill story? Did he ever tell you that story? Yeah?
- 18:21Speaker 5: Hey, he told me that too, But let me tell
- 18:24Speaker 5: you the real story on that. So, Hunk, I'm gon
- 18:26Speaker 5: tell the real story. I love you, but here.
- 18:27Speaker 1: All right, But before you do that, Jimmy, I just
- 18:29Speaker 1: want to tell you he came on our show and
- 18:31Speaker 1: he told us that his agent was called. They had
- 18:33Speaker 1: the same agent. He called Hulk first for the grill. Okay,
- 18:38Speaker 1: Hulk wasn't home. There were no cell phones at the time,
- 18:41Speaker 1: so naturally he had to go to the next client.
- 18:43Speaker 1: The next client was George Foreman. He got the grill,
- 18:45Speaker 1: Hulk got a blunder. Go ahead.
- 18:47Speaker 5: That's a great story.
- 18:48Speaker 1: I like that.
- 18:49Speaker 5: I've heard that one too. But here's the deal. Hunk
- 18:52Speaker 5: always went for the money up front, Yes, and a
- 18:55Speaker 5: smaller percentage because he believes sometimes when you'd get involved
- 18:59Speaker 5: with a company, sometimes they don't promote and whatever they
- 19:03Speaker 5: have don't sell, and all of a sudden you fight
- 19:05Speaker 5: trying to get your money off of a bigger percentage. So,
- 19:08Speaker 5: Huk there was a bigger percentage on the money that
- 19:11Speaker 5: it was than the grill that was put out. So
- 19:14Speaker 5: Huck what the front money up front and a small
- 19:16Speaker 5: percentage on the back. That's what really happened.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Oh wow, does he regret it? Did he regret it? No?
- 19:22Speaker 5: Not really, because Huk made millions and millions of dollars
- 19:25Speaker 5: without the grill. You know, he was never going to
- 19:27Speaker 5: be the best chef on a wrestling show, you know,
- 19:31Speaker 5: so he never did forget it.
- 19:32Speaker 1: You regret it.
- 19:33Speaker 5: And plus we have made good friends with George Foreman.
- 19:35Speaker 5: He did a lot of stuff for us too.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Jimmy, would you say hul Kogian is the most important
- 19:40Speaker 1: wrestling figure of all time?
- 19:44Speaker 5: Well, you know what? To me, I would say that.
- 19:46Speaker 5: But here's what I'm to me. There's like a top five,
- 19:48Speaker 5: you know, there's Hulk of course, and look john sena
- 19:51Speaker 5: look what he did. Look at the Rock, look at
- 19:53Speaker 5: Stone Cold, look at Triple h what he's doing now
- 19:55Speaker 5: and what he did in the ring. Sean Michaels. There's
- 19:57Speaker 5: just so many of them. If you leave any I'm
- 20:00Speaker 5: the Undertaker. Look look what he's done for the business.
- 20:03Speaker 5: There's just so many guys that are so important to
- 20:05Speaker 5: this business that are around the Rock of course, and
- 20:08Speaker 5: but but Hulk was one of the first ones there.
- 20:11Speaker 5: But if you watch the shows now, everybody's kind of
- 20:14Speaker 5: on the same level because I think everybody realized if
- 20:17Speaker 5: I put everything I've got into one star, if he
- 20:19Speaker 5: gets hurt or quits or leaves or goes to the
- 20:21Speaker 5: movies or whatever, we're in trouble. Brother. So that's why
- 20:24Speaker 5: you see it like it is.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Now, what's the best Hogan match you've ever been involved in?
- 20:30Speaker 5: Ooh, that's a good question, you know. I still like
- 20:33Speaker 5: I love I was. I was lucky enough to be
- 20:35Speaker 5: part of WrestleMania one, so I love that one. But
- 20:38Speaker 5: I still love WrestleMania three with Entre because a quick story,
- 20:43Speaker 5: right before we started doing promotion there said well, we've
- 20:46Speaker 5: really got to promote hard and heavy. Why because you
- 20:49Speaker 5: won't believe this but guess who's going to be in
- 20:50Speaker 5: town the week before? Who the Pope? Then who's coming
- 20:53Speaker 5: in town? The Rolling Stones. So Hulk goes, Jimmy, what
- 20:57Speaker 5: do you think? What do you think? And I said, well, look,
- 20:59Speaker 5: I think we might out for all the Pope, but
- 21:01Speaker 5: Rolling Stones. I don't know about that, huckster. But you
- 21:03Speaker 5: know what, we wind up drawing ninety three thousand people.
- 21:06Speaker 5: So we did draw both of them, and so h
- 21:08Speaker 5: You know, it made Hull happy because we were able
- 21:10Speaker 5: to do that, you know, but a lot of work
- 21:12Speaker 5: went into it. But he was kind of I don't know, man,
- 21:14Speaker 5: maybe we shouldn't run that particular time of the month,
- 21:17Speaker 5: but Vincent, no, we got a rhyme baby, and so
- 21:19Speaker 5: we did and it came out great.
- 21:20Speaker 3: Jimmy Hulk Hogan wrestling was before my time, but his
- 21:23Speaker 3: entrance song Real American transcended into pop culture. What is
- 21:28Speaker 3: your mount rushmore of WWE or WWF entrance songs?
- 21:33Speaker 1: Oh that's a good question.
- 21:35Speaker 5: Oh well, I'm a little prejudice. Of course. I love
- 21:38Speaker 5: Sean Michael Sexy Boy that we wrote, so that's that's
- 21:41Speaker 5: one of my favorite. And of course, going into the
- 21:44Speaker 5: Hall of Fame, this year, well, tomorrow night really, well
- 21:47Speaker 5: tonight really is the Demolition. And so Dick who played
- 21:50Speaker 5: on the we wrote the Demolition, saw me and my
- 21:52Speaker 5: partner but on it was calming up a piece of
- 21:54Speaker 5: vanilla fudge. Remember we Keep Me Hanging On. He was
- 21:58Speaker 5: on it. Rick Darringer singing and play guitar on it.
- 22:01Speaker 5: Leslie West of Mountain, remember Mississippi Queen, he.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Played on it.
- 22:05Speaker 5: And so that was kind of a star studded group
- 22:08Speaker 5: of rock and rollers that were on there. So I
- 22:10Speaker 5: like that too, but I think Real America was always great.
- 22:14Speaker 5: Of course John Cena song a ton of airplay off that.
- 22:16Speaker 5: I didn't write that though, but that was great. The Undertaker,
- 22:20Speaker 5: even how simple it was with just that bell boom,
- 22:22Speaker 5: it just set the tone for everybody coming out. And
- 22:25Speaker 5: then the Oregon music. And I've always liked Rick Flairs,
- 22:29Speaker 5: you know, Pumping Circumstance or Randy's whatever it was. But uh,
- 22:33Speaker 5: you know, I'd like to put a couple of mine
- 22:34Speaker 5: in there with Sexy Boy too, but uh, but interesting
- 22:37Speaker 5: themes were so important. You know, It's like the fans really,
- 22:42Speaker 5: when there's ten seconds into a song, they know who's
- 22:44Speaker 5: coming out through that curtain.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Jimmy, did you guys ever fight? You were best friends,
- 22:48Speaker 1: you were as longtime manager. I'm wondering, did you guys
- 22:51Speaker 1: ever have disagreements?
- 22:54Speaker 5: Not really, because I realized two things from the start
- 22:57Speaker 5: with Hup. I never borrowed money from him like other
- 23:00Speaker 5: people did and didn't think about it. Never burowed money.
- 23:02Speaker 5: And I always told him the truth when he asked me,
- 23:04Speaker 5: even though I put a little bit of sugar on it,
- 23:06Speaker 5: sometimes a lot of sugar, because you had to kind
- 23:09Speaker 5: of because I don't care how big somebody is. Sometimes
- 23:11Speaker 5: they're very sensitive, and Huk was very sensitive sometimes about stuff.
- 23:15Speaker 5: But no, you know what, we never thought, we never argued,
- 23:19Speaker 5: we never disagreed or and that's the true story, really,
- 23:21Speaker 5: you know, whatever he wanted. He was, Hey, Huk, you're
- 23:23Speaker 5: the man. What do you think let's do this route? Okay,
- 23:26Speaker 5: Well you made more money in me and wrestling business,
- 23:27Speaker 5: so I'm going with your idea. So that's the way
- 23:30Speaker 5: I kind of worked it out, Jimmy.
- 23:31Speaker 3: From watching the trailer, it looks like one of the
- 23:33Speaker 3: things that they're going to talk about is how Hogan
- 23:36Speaker 3: was once this universally celebrated larger than life figure but
- 23:41Speaker 3: you know, several controversies that changed maybe how fans saw
- 23:45Speaker 3: him from your perspective. How should people balance those two
- 23:48Speaker 3: sides of his legacy.
- 23:51Speaker 5: Well, it's hard to tell how some people really are
- 23:53Speaker 5: because some people are very positive. Some people love the
- 23:56Speaker 5: negative anything. You know, there's a show called Dark Side
- 23:59Speaker 5: of the Ring. They always call me and want me
- 24:00Speaker 5: to do and I said, look, when y'all do Happy
- 24:02Speaker 5: Side of the Ring, I'll be more than happy to
- 24:03Speaker 5: do it, which I know they're never going to call
- 24:04Speaker 5: me because there's never going to be a happy side
- 24:06Speaker 5: of the ring.
- 24:07Speaker 1: You know, no one what's happy joy? You know that? Right?
- 24:09Speaker 5: Yes, people always like that dirt. People like the dirt,
- 24:13Speaker 5: people like the trash, people like all that, you know.
- 24:16Speaker 5: But you know, sometimes you can't change people's minds. You know,
- 24:19Speaker 5: they're going to think what they want to think, and
- 24:20Speaker 5: that's just the way life's going to be. And well,
- 24:22Speaker 5: I waste time or are you even thinking about it
- 24:24Speaker 5: or fighting against it because you're not going to do it,
- 24:26Speaker 5: you know.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Yep, Jimmy, what do you hope people learn about Hull
- 24:30Speaker 1: Cogan through watching this documentary?
- 24:33Speaker 5: Well, you know, I'm hoping they'll check it out. It's
- 24:35Speaker 5: four big episodes of it, and by the way, it's
- 24:37Speaker 5: going to be on April the twenty seconds, so y'all
- 24:40Speaker 5: got to check it out. But like I said last night,
- 24:42Speaker 5: the first, well one of the I think the episode
- 24:44Speaker 5: two is what we watched last night before we unveil
- 24:47Speaker 5: the Hull Cokin statue. But I was watching it, man,
- 24:51Speaker 5: it went back and I saw so much old footage
- 24:53Speaker 5: that his wife Linda was gracious enough to give to
- 24:56Speaker 5: the company to put out there. And it was a
- 24:58Speaker 5: lot of early stuff that we got to see ourselves
- 25:00Speaker 5: on camera back then, and how happy everything was, and
- 25:03Speaker 5: then it showed a little bit later on how serious
- 25:05Speaker 5: everything was. So when you start making the big money,
- 25:08Speaker 5: how much stuff gets around you. You know, it's a
- 25:11Speaker 5: lot of stress when you start making the money, believe
- 25:12Speaker 5: it or not. And how Hope was pulled north south
- 25:15Speaker 5: east west, and how he missed being with the kids
- 25:18Speaker 5: but he had to really go to keep that lifestyle up.
- 25:21Speaker 5: So I think it's going to be very interesting. I
- 25:23Speaker 5: said that the people for Netflix did an unbelievable job.
- 25:26Speaker 5: It was about six or seven or eight months in
- 25:28Speaker 5: the making.
- 25:29Speaker 1: I'll get you out of here in just a second.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Did Hulk feel properly appreciated as he was well as
- 25:36Speaker 1: he passed away? Did he feel properly appreciated, Jimmy.
- 25:40Speaker 5: The only thing Holk was upset about that he couldn't
- 25:43Speaker 5: wrestle anymore. That's how he loved this business. He loved
- 25:46Speaker 5: the ww He just loved everything about it. And you know,
- 25:49Speaker 5: even though he has a ton of action figures and
- 25:51Speaker 5: ton of T shirts and everything and all this beach
- 25:53Speaker 5: shops were doing great, you know, and still doing great.
- 25:56Speaker 5: But that's the one thing he missed the most, you know,
- 25:59Speaker 5: Jimmy Hart, I just feel like I was robbed early
- 26:02Speaker 5: with these back operations and stuff. I still like I
- 26:04Speaker 5: had more in me. And I said, Hunk, there's not
- 26:08Speaker 5: gonna be another entree for you to fight. There's not
- 26:10Speaker 5: going to be another Roddy Riddy Piper for you to fight,
- 26:12Speaker 5: you know. And I just said, man, let's just do
- 26:15Speaker 5: what we're doing. Man, we're in the twilight of our career,
- 26:18Speaker 5: so let's ride out and singing a good song together,
- 26:22Speaker 5: you know. So it was all good, but he was happy.
- 26:25Speaker 1: Did you get a chance to say a proper goodbye
- 26:27Speaker 1: for you? Did you get a chance, Jimmy.
- 26:28Speaker 5: Nope, I didn't. You know. He loved Terry ok So
- 26:31Speaker 5: every Monday night would have to go to his beach
- 26:33Speaker 5: martin New Kerry, Okie, which I didn't like doing, you know,
- 26:35Speaker 5: But I went for a hunk, right, And so before
- 26:38Speaker 5: he got the operation, I'm sitting next to him. He goes, well, Jimmy,
- 26:40Speaker 5: he said, I think I'm gonna go get my neck
- 26:41Speaker 5: operated on because my hands are numb and I really
- 26:44Speaker 5: can't feel them. And I said, Hunk, every time you
- 26:46Speaker 5: go to the doctor and get an operation, it always
- 26:48Speaker 5: turned to be a disaster. You're allergic to the medication
- 26:51Speaker 5: that you're allergic to everything on it. He goes, but
- 26:53Speaker 5: I gotta do it. So he went and did it.
- 26:55Speaker 5: Two days later he called and goes, I'm coming back home.
- 26:57Speaker 5: I felt great. Two days after that, he's back in
- 26:59Speaker 5: the hospital. He goes back to the hospital. They go,
- 27:01Speaker 5: what's wrong with him?
- 27:02Speaker 1: What?
- 27:02Speaker 5: We think it might be a vow in your heart what?
- 27:05Speaker 5: So they work on that. He comes back home. They said,
- 27:08Speaker 5: well we think you got to like case on leikemia.
- 27:10Speaker 5: What leukemia? He comes back home again. He goes back again,
- 27:14Speaker 5: Now you've got pneumonia. So it was just one thing
- 27:17Speaker 5: after another. It really was. And I never had a
- 27:19Speaker 5: chance to say goodbye because at that particular time they
- 27:22Speaker 5: didn't want anybody at the hospital to do anything. But
- 27:24Speaker 5: I did talk to him one night on the phone,
- 27:26Speaker 5: and at four point thirty in the morning he called
- 27:28Speaker 5: me and said, I'm coming home tomorrow, and I went,
- 27:31Speaker 5: that is awesome. I said, well, I sat a little
- 27:33Speaker 5: prayer for you every night, Huckster. I can't wait to
- 27:35Speaker 5: see you. But as soon as he got home two
- 27:36Speaker 5: days later, he was back again.
- 27:39Speaker 1: But I'm certain he knows how much you loved him, Jimmy.
- 27:42Speaker 1: I mean, no one loved him more.
- 27:43Speaker 5: Please, brother, please, one hundred percent.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:46Speaker 5: If he called me, I was the first one on
- 27:48Speaker 5: the phone, and we all, you know, a lot of
- 27:50Speaker 5: our little Team Hogan. We used to call it Team Hogan.
- 27:52Speaker 5: We had X amount of rasters that were part of
- 27:54Speaker 5: it too, and one by one, through different things that
- 27:57Speaker 5: happened in people's lives, they kind of fell out. But
- 27:59Speaker 5: old Jimmy Hart was always there, baby with the megaphone.
- 28:02Speaker 1: Yep, Jimmy, we are both shocked, me and Taylor that
- 28:05Speaker 1: you were not a fan of karaoke. I mean, I
- 28:07Speaker 1: just figured you go up on a stage. You do,
- 28:08Speaker 1: rocket man. I mean, I'm shocked by this. The most
- 28:11Speaker 1: shocking thing I've learned today. Seriously, Oh my god.
- 28:14Speaker 5: Well we love you, hey, at leastad we learned something
- 28:16Speaker 5: from the day. And don't forget April the twenty second
- 28:19Speaker 5: Netflix to be It's gonna be unbelievable. So hope you
- 28:23Speaker 5: get a chance to see the Hulk Hogan documentary.
- 28:26Speaker 1: What was Hogan's karaoke song? Did he have a go
- 28:28Speaker 1: to song?
- 28:30Speaker 5: He always wanted me to get up and sing keep
- 28:32Speaker 5: on dancing the song that we had a million cellar
- 28:34Speaker 5: up with the Gentries that years ago. And I didn't
- 28:36Speaker 5: like doing it because I just said cook. You know,
- 28:38Speaker 5: it was just very simple, like keep on dancing, keep
- 28:40Speaker 5: on doing the jerk. You know there's nobody doing the
- 28:42Speaker 5: jerk anymore so, but but I'd still once in a
- 28:45Speaker 5: while I'd get up and do it. I want to
- 28:46Speaker 5: carry The last time he was there, I won the
- 28:48Speaker 5: Karaoke belt for singing and keep on dancing. I guess
- 28:50Speaker 5: it was.
- 28:51Speaker 1: Fixed, right, Yeah, Real American on Netflix. It comes out
- 28:56Speaker 1: April twenty second. It's a four part docu series. I'm
- 29:00Speaker 1: one of the greatest athletes we've ever seen. One of
