- 1:18[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you man looking forward to it.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, me.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: And so we are we're pumped.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_00]: I mean just kind of a quick context.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: So Jamison is the local car shop owner here in Lomit and North Carolina.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_00]: So he probably sees more of the hands than he cares to.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: But we've gotten to know Jamison over the last couple of years.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_00]: He sets up at fanatics fast the national.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: He's just been in the car space for a long time.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_00]: Very well-connected, and recently became a superstar when he shared the stage with Mr.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_00]: Wonderful at Fanatics Fest, and casting on a massive deal.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: We'll let him talk about that in a minute, but before we do that, we're going to do the usual sports card CEO Roundtable, and Colonel, let you kind of kick off today.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_02]: Well, my first question, James, and I want to know which him is your favorite him.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, all the hands are so special.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_03]: Can I just say Matt Ham and I'll let you decide if you're a senior.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, when are winner chicken dinner?
- 2:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, have you have you have you been to their only fence account?
- 2:16[SPEAKER_02]: The ham house.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_03]: I like him, I don't love him.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_02]: No, not much here on my end.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_02]: I mentioned last week.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like a broken record here because I'm not, you know, we're winding down in the summer here.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_02]: We got about two weeks left.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm kind of a little sad that it's empty.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I got to go back to the city.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_02]: I'm out here in the suburbs and just it's nice, man.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_02]: It makes me, it makes me want to get the hell out of the city that be honest with you.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm, you know, the hustle and bustle of New York City is it was fun for a while.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_02]: It's it's when you're out of it You don't want to go back, you know when you're in it.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_02]: There's nothing like it.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yep, but I'm kind of getting over that from a card front Hey, Kurns, there's some great real estate down here in North Carolina, coastal North Carolina Bay.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I was I was thinking more like South Florida But but I appreciate that if I know if I ever change my mind, I know where to go
- 3:14[SPEAKER_02]: card front I just again saying same kind of stuff I'm keeping up with my prospects and stuff selling where it makes sense.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm not really doing much buying.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_02]: I'm looking forward to Bowman Chrome.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_02]: Bowman Chrome does have a great checklist.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of guys.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_02]: Bowman Chrome's usually a lot of guys that are in the DS.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_02]: And I feel like this year they have a good amount of guys that actually have state side experience, which is, I like that a lot better, because it's not as risky, obviously.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_02]: You've seen that they can adapt to the United States.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm looking forward to that coming out.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_02]: It's exciting, timing to hobby, obviously.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of, you know, now the tops is obviously
- 3:51[SPEAKER_02]: all the licensing for basketball and football like there's so many I mean it feels like every product that comes out has a million dollar card and it has a chase card you know when it's making it that much more exciting so I don't know looking forward to seeing what's what's more to come like I don't make it bad not bad sets but sets that aren't typically sought after now sought after because they have big big chances and that's what that's what
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: yeah super super cool development I guess if you will when uh you know the product lines kind of getting fresh so james and i'll let you kind of line us up next man what's what's been going on in your world
- 4:28[SPEAKER_03]: Man, it's just been crazy.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, obviously it's no secret.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_03]: We're in a very bullish market right now.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_03]: So you don't really have to be that smart to be good at the moment.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_03]: You just buy hold for a month and you sell for about 30% more than next month.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_03]: But with that, I would say I'm in a state where I'm cautiously optimistic when I look at certain sectors.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_03]: I do see certain aspects of the hobby.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_03]: See him a little frothy, give me a little COVID-ish vibes.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_03]: I do think, you know, you're seeing kind of a break away for the best of the best, meaning the best copies of the best cards are really outperforming right now.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_03]: As I think you get the big money spenders, people get pick your pickier because they're able to buy whatever they want.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_03]: So I think you're seeing this real kind of even within the same card, you're seeing this huge divergence of an okay version of that card and a card with a
- 5:22[SPEAKER_03]: a perfect signature or perfect sinnering or whatever it is, it's kind of the guys are now looking for that top point one percent, not even just the top five percent examples of that card.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_03]: So it's interesting to balance up there by current said, I mean, you know, fanatics, tops is keeps hitting home runs.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I think they got a lot of stuff going for right now.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, the first year of tops for baseball and basketball.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_03]: basketball has some really exciting young stars with Wimbie and Cooper Flag.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_03]: Then on top of that, you have, you know, the all-time coach, you got Curian LeBron still hanging around with their first kind of top-slicensed card.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_03]: So you get both the kind of a little bit of a combination of old and old and new.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_03]: Otani is completely changed the baseball market.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, he is, he has done to baseball, what Jordan did to basketball, and he's just taken the ceiling and blown the top-off of it,
- 6:17[SPEAKER_03]: You know if the top guy is only x the second third and fourth guy can only be y so for when he when he pulls He has so much gravity pulling everybody up with him.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_03]: It really just strengthens the whole market and then
- 6:30[SPEAKER_03]: You know, we moved into our new facility in February and when we hit it, we just a business exploded with that being said with the release of top flagship football.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_03]: Now, it wasn't just that.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_03]: It was a combination.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_03]: We had a record day in the shot Friday and then we had a record new record day in the shot Saturday.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_03]: So I mean, business is just exploding from all aspects.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_03]: It's just exciting, man.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_00]: And just to shout out James, we've been in the shop a number of times, you know, his new new store of just a ton of intentionality, put forth phenomenal selection of cards, you know, always good wax, very fair approach to the market and the hobby.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, again, James and you're to be, you know, commended for that.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_00]: You've done a really good job.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you know, the space really well.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_00]: And you've put this, I mean, Lil Matt was in the shop.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: He's got his license now.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, he goes whenever he wants to, not just when I can take him.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_00]: But he was in the other day and he's like some dudes are driven up from like you know an hour and a half away You know to come to the shop and so that's super commendable to see you do that So on the hamhouse front man three high schoolers over here We got all the boys started high school yesterday which is wild.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: I have three sons at my alma mater Which is equally exciting and scares the crap out of me because I got three high schoolers and After you have his license, you know, he drove him on a school this morning So there's a lot of release going on in my life right now
- 7:51[SPEAKER_00]: At the same time, there's still so much that I have going on.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: We're kicking back off faith in business this week.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_00]: You know, business on the insurance front and then with the card front.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_00]: I told my wife, I said, you know, the thing that I feel the most, that I struggle with the most right now is probably feeling like I'm responsible for so many things.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: And like terrified that I'm going to drop the ball somewhere.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: You know, when you have like your family and your employees or whoever, you know, I mean, depending on you to do these certain things at some point in time is like, dude, I just want to make sure that I get through the day without letting anything blow on.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_02]: Amen.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_02]: I almost forgot about this podcast until you sent a link.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, right so I feel you man.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's like wait a second.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: What what's actually happening right now and so anyway, man Like that's kind of the mode of life and I get really weird.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know about you guys I get really weird when I get a lot going on like my immediate reaction is like sell everything
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like sell all the cards sell the boat to you know sell the house and we will rent You know what I mean?
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: I just want all my equity and I want to be like in this place where I can just like be Be aware of what's going on because it feels so uncontrollable right now with how much Volatility and ups and downs and craziness is going around so anyway There's there's validity to Bubba's concept of moving down to the farm and having the big date
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the mean to just can't I let everybody stay outside, but no, it's been a it's been good crazy summer But excited for this new iteration.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: I think today one of the things I want to ping you about Jamison is kind of like seeing all of these different Transitions and trends in the market.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: How do you kind of stay ahead of the curve because there's so much change and so rapidly?
- 9:33[SPEAKER_00]: You know little Matt and I did a little joint kind of episode filler where we were talking about Brady Crones and Brady Bowman's heading into fanatics fest in the national
- 9:42[SPEAKER_00]: 20% retreat, you know, off of those cards, which clearly shows that they were being, you know, promoted into those events, and then a 20% retreat, but like, if people don't know that, and you see a 20% retreat in a card of a guy who has the most super bowls of all time and who has it played in years, like that makes you go way to second, like, what's actually steering this massive, you know, cruise ship, that is the court card hobby.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_02]: And we're going to get into the nitty-gritty of all this kind of stuff, but do you think that that Tom's involvement with Card Vault and the hobby and Michael Rubin and the whole culture of the hobby do you think that helps his cards?
- 10:23[SPEAKER_02]: Or do you think they'd still be where they're at?
- 10:25[SPEAKER_03]: I think it has to help.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_03]: I think it helps keep him on the forefront of people's mind.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I mean, we definitely see a lot more Tom Brady, you know, the last I think
- 10:35[SPEAKER_03]: year or two then we saw probably the previous five years before that just on social media just active so I definitely think it helps keeps his name I mean obviously his name is going to be branded all over the hobby right so I mean you know it is an interesting question
- 10:52[SPEAKER_03]: Does it dilute his brand over time that, you know, I think one of the things that makes like a guy like Michael Jordan or even Tiger Woods so mythical is they almost seem untouchable.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_02]: They can exactly.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_03]: They're like Tom seems very accessible at this point.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_03]: So it'll be interesting to see how that plays out does his closeness to the hobby help.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_03]: or ultimately does he kind of just dilute the as the kids would say, or a Tom Brady, you know, and where Michael, you know, the guys you see on that level, Michael, Tiger Woods, Messi, these seem like these guys that you know, they're iconic, but you can't quite touch them because they kind of keep a distance from everybody.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_03]: So it would be interesting to see how that plays out.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I want to add a thought there.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_00]: So one of the things that I've done over the years without speaking or coaching or whatever talking to kind of guys, I'm saying, you always want to be available.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_00]: like be available to people, you know, who are either paying you, customers, friends, be available, but don't always be accessible because if you're always accessible, it creates a familiarity where people are kind of like, oh, he's always accessible.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: He's always there.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: He's always available.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: So it removes the mysteriousness, like you said, of that, and you know, a guy that I think about like that is Bo Jackson.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: Like Bo Jackson was Bo Jackson, you know what I'm saying?
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: Like he was the dude.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_00]: It was like the first two sport out of it.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_00]: But now when he's like launching, you know, battle arena stuff or whatever, I don't know, it feels like it's trying too hard to leverage the name brand, you know what I mean to do something.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: And so it feels more accessible.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_00]: And therefore it kind of almost delutes it.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_00]: So that's a super interesting thought.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: James and I really, I really like that.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: So let's get a little bit back story here.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_00]: Damis and Phyllis in, man, you know, you kind of name age, stage of life, all that kind of stuff to kind of relate to our listeners.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we're all kind of in the same sphere.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_00]: So listener base is very familiar with that.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: So Phyllis in and kind of how you got to where you are now.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_03]: So a young 43 young 43 have a wife and I have three kids two boys in high school one's about to graduate this year and then we have our COVID surprise, our daughter Hadley who's five.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_03]: So we don't know if she's keeping us older, keeping us young.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_03]: I think it depends on what day you ask us.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_03]: And so yeah, so three kids obviously live here in Wilmington, North Carolina.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_03]: I'll say grew up formative years in Greenville, North Carolina actually cut my teeth my first job as a teenager was at the local car shop called the batter's box on Greenville, North Carolina and so you know I've been around it the hobby since I was 67 you know opening 1990
- 13:35[SPEAKER_03]: uh... ninety one four-year-old trillion first came out you know top you know collecting down Murphy that was my guy when i was growing up uh... huge brace fan and so uh... you know collected in another high school kind of got out of it when i went to college and stuff as they think some of us would as other interest peaked during those years and i'm gonna do that
- 13:57[SPEAKER_03]: He's determined.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_03]: He's got to make a million bucks, you know, I wish I had that vision.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_03]: A lot different game these days we played and we played back then.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_03]: So did that kind of got back in the cards after after college?
- 14:09[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I remember opening 0304x quiz it for $500 a box and the card shop asking myself, what kind of idiot am I opening this box for $500?
- 14:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and now you now you're died to do that.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, exactly.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_03]: So remember, you know, the LCS in Charleston, South Carolina,
- 14:26[SPEAKER_03]: I think that case is now, I don't know, I got to beat 500,000, maybe.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_03]: Cheese.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_03]: And so, uh, so winning and out of that, you know, collecting, we get hot, get cold a little bit, you know, it's just as life was happening, and then,
- 14:41[SPEAKER_03]: As my I got a job in corporate America work for a pretty big company for 15 years as we had our our first two boys I kind of was at home a little bit more kind of settling down really focus on my career really got back into cards heavy really started focusing I'd say more on like high and basketball big Jordan Kobe died those were my my guys I really collected.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_03]: and started just kind of, you know, getting back into it again, not doing it as a profession, just as a hobby, working in corporate America, kind of working my way up through a sales organization, moved out to the Bay Area.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_03]: That was when I really made a really nice kind of, I would say my first Kobe was my first real good kind of,
- 15:20[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, I did well with this cards, but what I really did well was I I started investing into a guy that people weren't really sure about his name was Steph Curry and I did really really well with that bought into him very very low and Was able to hold on through a lot of key pieces through his big run up.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_03]: So that was a huge springboard for me
- 15:40[SPEAKER_03]: still dabbling, mainly in high and basketball, just as a collector.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_03]: And then, you know, I was working my been with the company for 15 years.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_03]: I was running the northeast for them.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_03]: It was I was in charge of about seven different states and Canada.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_03]: And I was about one step away from becoming a vice president for the company.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_03]: And then I had a radical change in my life.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_03]: I would say the Lord opened my eyes in my heart to things that I was chasing.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_03]: All of a sudden didn't seem as
- 16:06[SPEAKER_03]: and things I was missing seemed very important.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_03]: So it was like spending time with my kids, being with my wife, being the father that I should be rather than just chasing, climbing the ladder of corporate America, because it was feeding my pride in my ego.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_03]: So I, so I talked to my wife, I said, you know, I kind of had an over, I was like, I think I need to leave this company.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_03]: And she was like, I trust you.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_03]: If you think that's what we need to do.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_03]: So I call it the company.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_03]: I was like, I don't know where.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you know, I was being hot shot.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_03]: It basically could be a vice president for the company.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_03]: I would spend two years maximum position.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_03]: They were just kind of rotating me through getting the little turn on the trajectory.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_03]: I was on the trajectory.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_03]: And they were like, you know, what is it going to take to keep you?
- 16:46[SPEAKER_03]: I was like, you can't give me.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not holding you.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_03]: I was just not a ransom.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not coming to you for more money.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_03]: You just literally can't give me what I need right now.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_03]: And so I told my wife, I was like, you know, I think I can do cards for a little while, you know, if you come from any type of, I think sales or finance or business trade, there's a lot of skill sets that you can bring over to cards where you can, you know, there's a lot of
- 17:09[SPEAKER_03]: buying, selling, understanding market, understanding dynamics that you can have to bring into this hobby, that you can that can make you a quip to do well if you're disciplined and smart about what you do.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_03]: So I was like, well, we'll just, I'll just do this from home for a while until we figure out.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_03]: We were living up in Boston at that time, right outside of Boston.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_03]: We made a decision.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_03]: So I was moved to the Carolinas.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_03]: It's a little bit cheaper to live down there.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_03]: So we had to, me and my wife just roll back at immediately, originally met in Raleigh.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_03]: So we started looking at moving to Raleigh.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_03]: And we're really kind of gotten a little crazy and was like, man, we can live by the beach of Wilmington for less of Wilmington, we can live in Raleh.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_03]: Let's go live at the beach.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_03]: So that's kind of what brought us to Wilmington.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_03]: And so about six months here, I was just doing cards online.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_03]: COVID happened.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_03]: And by initial thought as a husband and as a provider for kids and a wife is like, I'm an idiot.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_03]: I just left this job and you know I was I was making very good money and I would never been fired amazing benefits you know just like I left the security of having my family basically covered for the rest of our life just because.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_03]: you got the time I didn't realize it but you know because I needed to step away and now like the world's gonna end nobody's gonna want baseball cards what am I doing I'm a moron so immediate for the first two weeks is like panic like I made a terrible decision for my family I would say in the Lord's kindness the atmosphere up to happen everything that I was holding to on to double triple quadrupled overnight
- 18:36[SPEAKER_03]: All the cards I had at PSA, 10 times overnight, you know, was just like this huge opposite bull market.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_03]: So it was an amazing gift from the Lord, I would say, and many regards, just as kindness that helped propel me.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_03]: And I was just doing it online.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_02]: And then I took when you said doing it online, what do you mean, like you were just buying and selling on eBay?
- 18:56[SPEAKER_03]: It was selling online through Instagram channels.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_02]: Got it.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I've been, I'd been around, you know, I would say I classify myself as a OG, you know, so I know a lot of guys within the hobby on my exquisite page.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_03]: This was before we up in the shop, so mainly running it on my exquisite page on IG.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I've had some really nice pieces, been fortunate to hold on to some really,
- 19:20[SPEAKER_03]: and curries anywhere from the, and the bronze and everybody in between exquisite RPAs into RPAs logo man autos, you know, some cars I really wish I had, but that helped me kind of propel me into what I needed to do and support my family for a while.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_00]: And so real quick, just for context for our listeners, like one of the things Jamison is like, you were holding cards that were five figure cards that became six figure, even seven figure cards.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_00]: That's kind of the conversation, right?
- 19:47[SPEAKER_00]: So these are super rare, you know what I mean?
- 19:50[SPEAKER_00]: Very low pop, highly sought after stuff.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_00]: And again, you had them when it was like, not necessarily cool to have them and just watch this entire flood of, you know, influx of value into the system.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_03]: So, for example, like Steph Curry, RPAs that are now 500,000, I was buying those for $2,000, $3.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, my God.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_03]: Kobe Logo Man Autos, I was buying for $10,000.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_03]: My first Steph Logo Man Autos, I think I bought for $5,000.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_03]: Those are...
- 20:18[SPEAKER_03]: million dollar cards now, you know, Kobe's are $1.5 to $2 million.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 20:23[SPEAKER_03]: There's that type of cards that I was buying back then, you know, and you know, turning around and selling them, you know, I would hold them and, you know, some of the ones I bought for $5 or $6, I would sell for $100, you know what I mean?
- 20:33[SPEAKER_03]: I mean that that's...
- 20:34[SPEAKER_03]: You know, just holding them for a couple of years and kind of in this boom in this, you know, this was kind of the first boom.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_03]: And some of the stuff I held onto, some of the stuff I liquidated because that was another new dynamic.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_03]: It's like, okay, like, yes, these cards are cool and you like them, but you also have to support your family.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_03]: So it's like, you know, it's that it's that I had the one of the biggest things I had to break away from is like, okay, you're not only just the collector now, you now have to use this to support your family.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_03]: It's a business.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's a business.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_03]: You know, so that was a great start.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_02]: I wonder, no, sorry to interrupt you.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_02]: I wonder, like,
- 21:06[SPEAKER_02]: You said you bought all those right cars at that time and you did what was best for your family, right?
- 21:11[SPEAKER_02]: Like, is that why the ultra modern right now, the Cooper flags of women and Yamas?
- 21:17[SPEAKER_02]: Like, is that why do you believe the markets are so strong for those guys?
- 21:22[SPEAKER_02]: Because people just because of what happened with the curries and the Lebrons?
- 21:25[SPEAKER_02]: Like, people are obviously searching for the next guy, you know?
- 21:29[SPEAKER_02]: And it's the same thing in baseball, like who's the next soda?
- 21:32[SPEAKER_02]: Who's the next?
- 21:34[SPEAKER_02]: Otony even though there's not going to be like who's an exoto who's an ex-Bobby wit who's an ex-trow who's an ex-trow who's an you know and like that's what keeps people Kind of paying that premium and holding on and hoping and that you know keeping the dream alive It's like is that why you think like Cooper flag and women yamma even though they really haven't proved much is the markets are so strong
- 21:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, I think everyone's searching for that next guy, right?
- 21:57[SPEAKER_03]: There's always a guy that has to come up and feel the void of who's the man now, who is who's going to be that guy.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_03]: You know, in baseball, I can look like trout was going to be that guy and then he kind of got sideline with a lot of injuries.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_03]: Unfortunately, obviously a huge talent, but kind of the injuries kind of is probably going to give him a little bit of that kind of what if he could have stayed healthy as whole career.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_03]: I think when we look back on his career, but then ultimately we got Otani, right?
- 22:22[SPEAKER_03]: So like imagine if imagine you go all in an Otani in 2023.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_03]: Shoot, you're going to go on in an Otani a year ago and still probably double your money.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_03]: Now it's not more, you know, and he was already people are talking about him being the goat.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, I think everyone's looking, everyone wants to have the next Jordan.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_03]: Everybody's looking for the next Tigerwood.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_03]: Everybody's looking for the next messy.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_03]: Everyone's wants to be in early on the next guy.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_03]: fun for financial aspect and two I think there is I think for honest in a little bit of us there's all pride to say look look out smart I am.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_03]: I was smart enough.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_03]: I was smart enough to buy this guy before you wanted this guy because I'm a better X than you are.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_03]: I'm a better investor.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_03]: I can spot talent.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_03]: So there is some financial I think there is some pride.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_03]: I think there is just some of that that gamble of like hey I went all in on this guy I followed my
- 23:18[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I know you got some nice junior cam in era.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_03]: So it must be nice to look at junior and what he does and be like, man, I'm trying to glad I got in on him earlier.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, it's the same idea.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_02]: Like, look, I'd have if it's half of its pride and ego and being like, I chose the right guy that I had conviction in and I, it took off, you know, like a lot of it is that probably more so than financially to be honest with you.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, just being honest.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and it's nice to choose the right guy.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and as I bought Steph Curry Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan I also bought some Zion Williams in this genre and some those guys, you know, it's part of you know It's like I told my staff here and like if we don't make some mistakes when we're buying We're not being aggressive enough.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_03]: It's okay.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_03]: It's okay to make a mistake like because one
- 24:03[SPEAKER_03]: I would rather be like a little bit more aggressive and deal with that than because I just think it's better when you come to some investing you want to be a little bit more aggressive.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_03]: That's my approach and two ways we learn so much more from when we make a mistake.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_03]: We've learned so much more, making a mistake than we do.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_03]: It's easy when things are going well.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_03]: Like in this market, it's easy.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_03]: Everybody feels like they're a great car guy right now, because everything they buy just goes up.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_03]: Every time they redo the Comps on car later in three days, their cars went up 10%.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_03]: we'll see what happens when the market slows down.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_03]: We'll see who's sharp.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_03]: You know.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_00]: So take this real quick.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_00]: Jameson, when you so kind of COVID boom, you know, you see it's influx of value or whatever, at what point time did you make a decision?
- 24:50[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I'm going to actually open a card shop and kind of bring us up over the last couple of years.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_03]: So I would say like, you know, during the COVID times, it was kind of perfect.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_03]: I was able to financially do well.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_03]: I was also able to be at home and be with my family, which is something I had missed out on a lot of them because of my corporate career.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_03]: I was traveling a lot.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_03]: So I was able to reconnect, you know, so there's three or four years.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_03]: And then as things were kind of settling back into, I would say some normalcy within society.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_03]: People actually wanted to stand beside each other.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_03]: A people cared to be in the same room with one another again.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_03]: You know, the face mask we're coming off, you know, I kind of felt, you know, I kind of got this feeling.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if it was, you know, the Lord speaking to me or what it was, but I kind of got this feeling like, okay.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_03]: Like, it's time to go back to work.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_03]: Like, it's time to like, go do something.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I think as men, we, that's in our nature is like, okay, it's time to go do something now.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_03]: And so I talked to my wife.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_03]: I said, I think I, I think I need to open a shop now.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_03]: I said, things that settled, you know, I looked at the landscape of
- 25:52[SPEAKER_03]: this market could use a really good shop I feel like and so she was like if you feel like that's what you need to do let's do it I think she was tired of me being at home too you know what I mean yeah so I just get to hell out of here I was on her turf now you know it was out that's her air yeah yeah and so so we opened the first port city sports collectibles 1500 square feet
- 26:15[SPEAKER_03]: probably 800 square feet show room.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_03]: Just, you know, I talked to a buddy of mine who now owns, I don't know if I think he owns 15 shop, but he was like, just start small.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_03]: He's like, I haven't given you any advice.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_03]: Start small.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_03]: Don't over overhead yourself and and just let it and let it build organically.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_03]: And so that's what we did.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_03]: And really just bought, you know, had no allocation.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_03]: Just started buying stuff in the secondary, loading singles up, and just kind of
- 26:43[SPEAKER_03]: that I have learned in corporate America to the first, you know, first generation of horsey sports collectibles.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_03]: We opened the shop.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_03]: It's really what Matt 100 200 yards away from where we are now.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you could throw a rock and hit it.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_03]: And so we started off about a little over three years ago to humble beginnings.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_03]: And I remember, man, I remember like the first time we did like a thousand dollars in sales in a day.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_03]: It was like
- 27:10[SPEAKER_03]: Over time, we just kept building, doing, I think, you know, you just come to work, you do the basics, you do the right things every day, you treat customers right, continue offer good products good services good selection and just over time over time it just continue to grow and now in February we moved into this facility as a little under 6,000 square feet probably half a bit of showroom half of it is warehouse office.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_03]: We went from, I think, a shop at, like, three showcases.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_03]: We have 12, and this put the 13, 14th and 15th, then.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_03]: Showcases of singles.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_03]: We really pride ourselves of having, you know, I mean, outside of obviously, like your Burbank's and stuff, I would put some of our single selections up against about any shop in the country.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_03]: We really work hard on not only having good cards, but
- 27:54[SPEAKER_03]: turning have a good turn rate because the last thing I want there's a couple of things that are like pet peeves to me.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_03]: And one of the things is like I don't want customers to walk in to our shop one week.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_03]: Come back in two weeks and be like, like I've seen that stuff that was your last time.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_03]: And that's what I don't want.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I want them to be like, man, we have to get the poor city because we don't get there.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to miss out on the news.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_02]: It's like getting there to show that the first day before exactly.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_02]: I would imagine also maintaining the pricing and this in this market is difficult to.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah it is.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, there's guys that there's there's there's people that come in and they get great deals just because the market moved so quickly Like in the amount of singles it's hard to check every day.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and we have a policy like and my guys know this and we know this like and we tell customers it's all the day You know, it's it's yeah.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_03]: So if it's you know the mark our prices mark and it kills me people are like well have a more up card marked for 250 last comps 300 a course they're going to add.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, would you do two 30 on it?
- 28:56[SPEAKER_03]: I was like, and you know, we have our thing, we'll do 250, but the minute you walk out the door, the price is getting changed at 300.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_03]: So you can take it now for 250 or when you walk out the door 300.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_03]: But we're never going to change the price on the customer.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_03]: If they're able to get in and find a great deal, we love that.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_03]: That's right.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_03]: That's going to keep them coming back.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_03]: Exactly.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_03]: It's it.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_03]: I think a lot of times people open a shop or do this without real.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_03]: Some people have a naturally, some don't, but without a lot of sales training and skills.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_03]: One thing we pride ourselves here at poor cities is like we want to build relationships, not create transactions and too many people look at transactions and don't understand like, okay, you might have made
- 29:41[SPEAKER_03]: a good amount on that customer on a one time transaction, but if they feel like they got the wrong of the deal, they're never going to come back and see.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_03]: I would rather make less money, but create a long lasting relationship with you, with you, that over time is going to be more beneficial to you and to me.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_02]: And so I don't understand that in the hobby.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_03]: No, no, they don't, they don't.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_03]: And I think
- 30:03[SPEAKER_03]: You know, we get that a lot, I think customers, that's why we have the, I think the customer base they do, they feel it, you know, people come in the shop and say, man, it just feels different here, we love hanging out here and we have guys that come set up with their laptop and just sit down on our couch is pull value boxes out and just do calls, you know, do work, do whatever, grab a box, rip it while they're doing.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_03]: And that's what we wanted to create, we wanted to create this kind of, it's a card shop, yes, but we wanted to feel like.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_03]: the barber shop slash you where you come in everybody knows your name customers now know other customers because the same people come in and see each other and you know I think one of the coolest things from the shop which I talked to my wife about all the time is we have so many people that are friends that never knew each other before they stepped in the poor city sports collectible.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_03]: that the bond has been made in the shop, and now those guys go golfing together, they're in fantasy football leagues together, they go out to dinner together, their families or friends, and that's because they met here, and so the cards is cool, and it brings everyone together, but it's really the relationships that are really, really cool that you see, and I think that adds a lot of value, and that's the stickiness that the hobby can bring sometimes.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I've said this multiple times on the show and, you know, during the pandemic season, I got into this secondary and, you know, bourbon market, right?
- 31:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's just something that I've always loved, a good bourbon, but I was so fascinated to see during that season, everybody's looking for community.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_00]: and they usually find community around some type of connection point.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, as while Metz fans or Nick's fans or whatever, it's like Braves fans, it's like card collectors, bourbon guys, you know, cigar guys, whatever, there's just, people are longing to be connected to be in community.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_00]: And they find something that they love and the passion, and that's the thing to be celebrated.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 31:54[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the whole thing about relationships.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_00]: So cards, yes, you make money in it or whatever.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, the best part of cards, I tell little Matt this all the time, the bet for me, the best part, and that's what so funny with these clowns that, you know, I get to do this podcast with, I never get to see them.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean, I see them on the thing, but like do we, we're all together, there's a couple times we've been together, it's like bro, you know what I mean, it's a big bear hug and it's like this longing for community.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean, I think people crave that, and so to foster that idea is really, really unique and important.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and I think authenticity is also important.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I think one thing that I've really we've worked hard as a as a company and a core group and you know my core guys here Matt you know Jeremy and Christian and Graham now is like we all really.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_03]: It's not just a job to us.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_03]: We all really love cards.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_03]: Like, so it's not just that we're here.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I got a bunch of hourly employees that could care less about cards.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_03]: Like, we get excited about cards.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_03]: When someone hits a big card ripping, it's a big deal.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 32:55[SPEAKER_03]: When someone brings in a cool pickup or bring good stuff to sell us.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_03]: And we get excited about the cards we pick up and that we're able to then offer to the community that they're able to add to their collection.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_03]: So I think people feel that when they come in
- 33:10[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, yes, we're obviously want to put our best foot forward.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, we want to be hospitable.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, we want to make great relationships, but we're also authentic about the card experience.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_03]: We love cards, and I think people can feel that when they come into the shop.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_02]: Make sure we're all the difference.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for sure.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you know, James, I appreciate Sharon, man.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, I've got a lot of questions here to kind of get your perspective on is is not only like a high in collector and what not, but also to on the flip side as a store owner, but current, I let you kind of kick it off, man.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_00]: We're just kind of like ask James and some questions here, and we'll just see where it goes.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no, I want to hear about this, like how this deal went down with Mr.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_02]: Wonderful.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_02]: Like is this it was it were two two cards correct?
- 33:53[SPEAKER_03]: It was too hard, yes.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_02]: The Otani logo man, is that a card you hit or you bought?
- 33:58[SPEAKER_03]: No, I bought it.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_03]: I bought it actually.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_02]: And how long did you own it before you sold it?
- 34:04[SPEAKER_03]: wasn't long man.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_03]: It was like two or three months, honestly.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_02]: And how did that come about that whole deal?
- 34:10[SPEAKER_03]: Like before like on the stage like the card originally or the deal with Mr.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_03]: Wonderful both both.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_03]: So first of all, can I correct something real quick?
- 34:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_03]: Matt said, I got to share the stage with Mr.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_03]: Wonderful.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_03]: I think Mr.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_03]: Wonderful got to share the stage with me.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_03]: Fair enough.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_03]: So I've done several deals with the fanatic collect private sales team.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_03]: Um, I really, really relationship with them.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_03]: And so times where I've maybe I've made deals on the private market and I'll have some excess capital I want to put into place.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I'll ping them I'll say I like to buy stuff that's not readily available.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_03]: So I like this by stuff that's not openly on the market.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_03]: So I like to buy stuff that I'll ping like, you know, the guys that acquire or I'll ping the guys that fanatics collect private acquisition.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_03]: I'll say, hey, what's something you got that's really cool that's maybe not it's available, but not kind of just out everywhere, right?
- 35:06[SPEAKER_03]: And so they'll send me stuff from time to time.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_03]: So it had been a couple months before that before this deal of Mr.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_03]: Wonderful, we had started talking that.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_03]: by now section of their website and I had made an offer on it and they said they've got a higher offer and then they pulled it off and it wasn't available and I was like, okay, dang, I missed that.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_03]: Something happened with that deal and the card became available again and
- 35:35[SPEAKER_03]: I was negotiating between them, you know, they're the middle man, and I'm negotiating between the owner and damn.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_03]: And we were a little bit off on our number of where I wanted to be and where he wanted to be.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_03]: And so I thought that you was bad.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_03]: And so I went and bought on my way, just looking for other stuff.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_03]: And then probably like two or three weeks later, they came back to me and said something's happened.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_03]: Guys ready to sell now, he'll meet you at your number.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_03]: So that's a great.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_03]: We did the deal and I got the card and so I bought that.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, honestly, I had at the time.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_03]: I was like, man, I'm probably overpaying for this, but I felt
- 36:11[SPEAKER_03]: that there was a compelling enough story behind the card where I thought this could be a really good long-term hold.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_02]: I was going to say you didn't plan to sell that in two months.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_03]: I did not know.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_03]: This was a card I thought I was going to have to talk for a while and just let that to me I see a lot of similarities between the dynasty brand name and like the exquisite brand name.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_03]: And I feel like that's a set that's going to carry a lot of weight as we continue to move into this kind of top-sdominated future.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_03]: So I was like, look, a man auto, first year Dodgers, Otani, you know, I'm starting to like, for me, like comparisons, like help me kind of processing.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm starting to think, okay, well, if you had a first year, even though it didn't make this card, if you had a first year logo, man, exquisite, Michael Jordan, what would that card be work?
- 36:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_03]: 10 million, 15 million, 20 million.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_03]: So those are the thoughts that start to process in my mind, even though, you know, a tiny logo man is a way more accessible than Jordan logo man.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_03]: I was like, if he had if it's up fraction, there's money to be made here.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_03]: So I bought it, so I'll just tuck this card for a while.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_03]: Then kind of as we were leading up to fanatics this, like kind of got kind of tack on the shoulder about because they know some of the cards I have and my collection and I think,
- 37:27[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's a combination of maybe cars I had and maybe like just knowing my background and probably like I wouldn't be overwhelmed by being on stage and stuff like that, you know, that was an aspect of it as well.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_03]: In that scenario, we started they started talking to hey, you know, Kevin O'Leary is interested in doing some type of shark tank type of event at fanatics this would that be something you would be interested in flying a part on.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_03]: I, you know, it could be good publicity for you than it is like, yeah, I'd be interested and we did have to talk like, okay, they wanted to know like, okay, well, what kind of cards could you offer because obviously they don't want you to go up there and like blindly.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_03]: I got a flagship Tony autograph, about five grand.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's a bad card, but this is different.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, this is different.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_02]: Getting on stage from head.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_03]: So they just wanted, they're like, okay.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_03]: So we started talking to some cards and they kind of were like, okay, this sounds interesting.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_03]: That sounds interesting because there was another collector up there.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_03]: Kind of that was going to be bringing some basketball.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_03]: So they kind of kind of pivoted me towards maybe football and baseball.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_03]: That's how we landed on kind of the Otani and the Brady Champ ticket.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_03]: Kind of bring the cards that I would bring up.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_03]: And then they wanted to have some loose framework of like,
- 38:41[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, like where do you think these cards are worth or where would you sometimes yeah, because they don't want me to go up and be like here's my Tony Logan man.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_03]: I want 50 million.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, there's no deal there.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_03]: We're dead.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_03]: We're dead upon arrival.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so they wanted to make sure like okay, like when we get there if there is a deal that could happen.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_03]: We are in the vicinity of like.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_03]: And I knew they were going to want to go shit so obviously I went in a little bit higher, you know, then, you know, nor I wouldn't say probably if I was like, just privately because we have to go, you know, we needed to create some back and forth obviously so yeah and then kind of when we went up there we.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_03]: talked about the two cards and they end up buying both of my cards and the other guy presented a couple of the products was it's they did not buy his cards and so but so yeah there was it wasn't just totally organic we're like hey they saw me in the crowd and picking me and threw me up there I just happened to have an otony logo man in my back pocket you know what I mean uh there was some framework put around but we didn't unlike
- 39:43[SPEAKER_03]: We didn't like pre-script or like go up there.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_03]: There was no like roleplay with me in Kevin O'Leary or anything going into that We didn't meet him backstage Before we went up there.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_03]: I will say he was super nice guy not the guy you see on TV He was super kind to me.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_03]: He was super kind to my son who was with me very cordial and yeah, just super chill and this seems very humble Yeah, that shine everyone knows shine Yeah
- 40:10[SPEAKER_03]: I've known shine for a long time and that was probably one of the reasons I was on that list of people they would ask is just because not knows the kind of cars that I had.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_00]: What's kind of like almost a vouch just like in a way like this hobby so weird is like you've got to like an internal vouch and that's Yeah, yeah, yeah, I want to make sure and I get some weirdo up on stage.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to like go around and go up there I'm going to go up there.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_00]: Can I interest you in a Sebastian wall.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_00]: How about a Louise pin.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_02]: Pluto Sebastian.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_02]: Well cut.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, so that's how it went down man, and then super cool.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, super cool.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_02]: That's cool.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_00]: So in kind of retrospective that Jameson, how would you say like, has that really moved?
- 40:55[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, in honesty, just like me talking to you as if we're not recording a podcast.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like is that moved the needle for you?
- 41:02[SPEAKER_03]: I definitely had a lot of people reach out to me.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_03]: Definitely locally, a lot of people have been like, are you there, Tony, guys?
- 41:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I will say that my son was at my son.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_03]: He, he, he, the dual enrollment.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_03]: So he goes to college classes.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_03]: Why he's still in high school.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_03]: And the other day, he went to his first day at class and he was wearing one of our poor city shirts.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_03]: And one of the kids at the class goes, hey, does your dad own poor city?
- 41:26[SPEAKER_03]: And he's like, yeah, and the guy was like, dude, I don't know if you know, but you're dad.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_03]: He's like, low key famous.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_02]: Low key.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, low key.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_03]: And at the last card shows, like the first time I had, it was a little bit awkward.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_03]: I don't really, it's kind of awkward for me.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_03]: Like a couple of people was like, hey, man, can we, my kids and like stuff like,
- 41:48[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'm like sure.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_03]: Why do you listen to your pictures me?
- 41:51[SPEAKER_03]: We just follow you on social media.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_03]: Man, we just love what you do.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, okay, cool.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_00]: You know, that's that interesting.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_00]: That's that interesting piece that kind of, and we've joked about it on the podcast before like when Bubba was on here.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_00]: We're like, we're sea level famous or de-level famous.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, right, we're like in-level famous.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I was going to say it like, you know, because it is interesting once you start to put content out and do this, you know, how it creates this kind of like, or is that word, right?
- 42:16[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, that's one thing about fanatics versus so interesting, which we did not anticipate this year, you know, being able to have the media creds and stuff, which you're a vendor, so like you're you're at a table set up doing that whole thing and you'll have your own kind of like protocol, but on the media side,
- 42:32[SPEAKER_00]: like being able to, you know, we interviewed Cody Bellinger and, you know, Lil Matt got interview Logan Paul and some of this kind of stuff.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's fascinating at how much celebrity culture is connected to the hobby now.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's really, it's really wild, honestly.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_00]: Because like, we're all card guys, like, like, in cardboard and stuff.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_00]: But when you infuse it with this social media celebrity thing, it becomes this weird, like, thing.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_00]: And, like, everybody's
- 43:03[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I was actually we had such a huge weekend.
- 43:07[SPEAKER_03]: I sold out of so much stuff.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_03]: I was talking to one of my buddies.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_03]: He was pretty big LCS and he he always has a lot of wax.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_03]: I say, hey man, can I buy I need a buy a couple of cases of X Y and Z and then he was like, he was like, yeah, I said, I can give you this and this and I can't give you this.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_03]: I've already I've already told Miss he could have that case.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_03]: I'm like, miss the wrestler in the baseball play.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_03]: He's like, no, miss a ralsky.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_03]: He's, I've already told him, I'm like, look at you big dog, like, you know, just having personal cases set aside for news.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_03]: But I mean, that's, that's, I mean, so when I look at things and I'm part of me, it's like this weird dichotomy, it's like, man.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_03]: because I just, I think if you don't learn from the past, then you're doomed to repeat the same mistakes, but like a little bit of me is like, man, it's frothy, but like also a little about it's like, every day a new athlete is getting involved.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_03]: Every day a new celebrity is getting involved.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_03]: Every day you see some new fund is coming in wanting to buy cards.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, for us, some of these numbers seem big, but it doesn't take a lot of capital in this market cap, the market
- 44:06[SPEAKER_03]: not like some of these other marketplaces where you can use a couple billion dollars and it does it's like a blip on the radar you know you use a couple billion dollars in the sports cards like you're talking about a lot of acceleration so that's why like I say I'm cautious cautiously optimistic because I think we you know we have to be
- 44:27[SPEAKER_03]: aware of where we are in a cycle and then when you see cars like the Brady Chrome or these really high pop iconic cards that aren't necessarily rare, they're just iconic and they go from 8,000 to 15,000 in a month like I get a little leery.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but then at the same time it's like man every day.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_03]: It's like this guy's doing it.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_03]: This guy's doing it.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_03]: This guy's opening a shot.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_03]: This guy's a breaker this guy's breaking boxes on the field before he goes out to pit.
- 44:54[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 44:55[SPEAKER_03]: And so it's kind of uncharted waters and I think because
- 45:00[SPEAKER_03]: of fanatics relationship with athletes compared to like paninis.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_03]: We're like, I see, like, panini to me seem almost more like a thorn in the side to athletes.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_03]: It's like, okay, we'll begrudgingly do this because you're paying us $100 a car to sign cards.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_03]: Fanatics definitely seems like these relationships are much different.
- 45:18[SPEAKER_03]: And with these relationships, they're almost bringing them into the hobby, not just,
- 45:23[SPEAKER_03]: Looking at this is like, okay, this is just another source to income from the outside.
- 45:27[SPEAKER_03]: That's a real product right there.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, that's a micro ribbon effect right there.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_00]: 100% current.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_00]: You got any questions?
- 45:35[SPEAKER_02]: So how many stores do you have now?
- 45:37[SPEAKER_02]: How many locations?
- 45:39[SPEAKER_03]: For right now, we just have one.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_02]: Do you plan on opening your own future?
- 45:45[SPEAKER_03]: I would say that's on our radar.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_03]: So what we did when we had the other shop, you know, we reached the capacity where we were doing trade nights and we literally had people out on the sidewalk.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_03]: We just couldn't get anybody else into this shop.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_03]: And so it was like, I kind of reached that, it was definitely a tipping point was like,
- 45:59[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, do we go second location or do we just build like the mother ship and then bigger and bigger better and so I was like I'm sure as you guys know as you guys are involved in business you can't be in two places at the same time.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_03]: No
- 46:17[SPEAKER_03]: right and so when you can't be in one place it's much harder to manage not to say that we wouldn't go to a second place while I was like let's go let's build the flag let's do it really right with the flag ship and yeah let's do the flag ship really right let's make sure we have all our culture in place so when we do want to expand that second one like we're ready to rock and all makes it that much
- 46:39[SPEAKER_03]: And so, so we went with the mothership.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's 100% been the right call for us.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_03]: And but my mind is already thinking about the next step.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_03]: Because but one thing I'm also very cautious of is who I bring in to, because I don't consider like these guys employees.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_03]: They're like, they're like my work family.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_03]: And so I'm very, very cautious about who I bring into my work family.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_03]: We have a dynamic that really works.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_03]: And so I would rather be understood by one.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_03]: and have to work harder than overstaff by one and like have to worry about what's happening when I'm not at the store.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_03]: And so yeah, we will, there will probably be future phases of port city in some time in the future, whether that's a year or two, year or six months, that's TBD.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, one of the things that's really interesting to me, Jamison, is the non-sports market.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_00]: And this is something that you, you know, it's funny.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I literally, when I first came into the old shop or whatever, and I saw you had like WWE cards and like, What does Jamison have WWE cards?
- 47:40[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, what?
- 47:41[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, and again, like, I get it from the nostalgia of like, I mean, the era that I remember in WWE was like early on was like everything from Rick Flair and the Hogan days.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_00]: all the way probably up until Stone Cold Steve Austin who was like perfect favorite rest of all time just with right his persona but i'm sitting here going like how does a stone cold Steve Austin and i can't remember i think you're big on ramen rains or one of these guys whatever and i'm just like so so that and to me that is a sports card it's a WWE card but like when you get the WWE and f1 but then you add in
- 48:12[SPEAKER_00]: like the Pokemon stuff and now you're talking like Disney going through the roof or whatever like what what's your take on these non-sports brands and like how they fit into this world that is the sports card hobby.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_03]: I think there's multiple facets.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_03]: I think we all collect some what for a connection, whether it's to other like mine collectors or maybe memories from our childhood or special things we've shared with other people along the way.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_03]: I think a lot of collecting is like releasing the inner child within side ourselves and some regards for some people that's baseball, for some people that's going to Disney world, for some people that's reading comic books.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_03]: You know, so I think we all have different connections at different points like, you know, recently, my family's kind of gotten more into Disney.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, my wife and my daughter, they don't really care about sports.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_03]: But that's something like we've been able to connect on, is like, it's a way they can enjoy kind of what we're doing here at the shop through through that parallel.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_03]: And so I just think it's all about a connection.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, when you look at
- 49:20[SPEAKER_03]: Again, going back to like sports car, Disney's even a smaller market when it comes to trading cards, so it doesn't take a lot of participants to really move that market a lot.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_03]: And I think everybody, you know, everybody goes to Disney World and feels like a kid.
- 49:32[SPEAKER_03]: Everyone has some tie to, you know,
- 49:35[SPEAKER_03]: The only bigger brand name, the Michael Jordan might be Mickey Mouse, you know, it's an iconic brand that everyone can connect to in some way.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_03]: So I definitely see the collectability there.
- 49:45[SPEAKER_03]: And so it's just another thing for people to collect.
- 49:48[SPEAKER_03]: And I think it's just another entrance way into the hobby where, you know, we're used to be maybe just.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_03]: A dad and his son collecting, now can be a dad and his daughter or a husband and his wife.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_03]: Or you can bring the whole family to the car shop and everybody has something that they can find that they want to participate in.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_03]: Dad and sons may be buying the baseball box or the basketball box or the football box.
- 50:14[SPEAKER_03]: why the daughter in the mom or buying the Disney box or whatever.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_03]: So it's just, you know, it's just casting a wider net to bring people in.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_03]: We don't do any TCG here.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_03]: The Pokemon magic gathering.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_03]: It's just, it's just not my thing.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_03]: Who does to those collectors?
- 50:28[SPEAKER_03]: It's just the avenue that I don't tend to want to venture into.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_03]: I think there's a lot of people that are doing that and doing that well.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_03]: I like to stay in my lane and be good at what I do.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_03]: And that's the, that's the lanes I choose.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_03]: But I get, people talk to me all the time.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_03]: Like, my buddy said, shut up, man, you're missing so much money.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_03]: You know that's fine, but that's also where you get yourself in trouble when you start venturing into different avenues You don't know anything about because you think this remark it is so strong that you can't lose like you're getting in trouble like and I think and too you go to these shows now and nothing against that I mean Pokemon and it's so overrun by Pokemon stuff like when people come in our shop and it's like it's like a sports like actual sports car shop people are like
- 51:08[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, we just appreciate this actually being like a sports card shop.
- 51:11[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 51:12[SPEAKER_03]: I mean we do carry all the tops flagships.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_03]: We carry some Marvel and Disney because if tops offers it, I'm going to carry it.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and I enjoy some of the Marvel and Disney stuff.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_03]: I love the movies.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_03]: I'm a big fan of that stuff.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_03]: And so we have fun with it, but yeah, we're not a TCG store.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_03]: We are a a sports car.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_03]: That's our.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_03]: mainland.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think about all these alternative brands and alternative cards and stuff.
- 51:35[SPEAKER_00]: And it reminds me that I was a kid.
- 51:37[SPEAKER_00]: I'll never forget.
- 51:37[SPEAKER_00]: They released those desert storm cards.
- 51:40[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 51:40[SPEAKER_00]: And it was like sadom chasing.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 51:43[SPEAKER_00]: Like tanks in like Schwartz call for whatever.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_00]: And then there was like the Nolan Ryan Express.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_00]: And you got to know and Ryan card.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, there's 4 million of them.
- 51:52[SPEAKER_00]: You know.
- 51:52[SPEAKER_00]: And so, it's like, and again, there were garbage-pale kids, there was Marvel cards back then.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_00]: And so, I'm always fascinated when you talk about history repeating itself, right?
- 52:03[SPEAKER_00]: And it's so funny, we all know the guy that's the, the QVC guys, like, if you want to get a chick tonight, you tell him you bought these cards today.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_00]: You know, whoever that guy was, just like, dreadful, what I'll do now, they're so bad.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_00]: But you know what I'm saying?
- 52:17[SPEAKER_00]: But now, the modern version of that guy is whatnot.
- 52:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like, 1,000 percent, that's the modern version of that guy.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's like QVC online shopping and it's like, it is what it is.
- 52:29[SPEAKER_00]: And it's successful and that it gives accessibility to people to buy from their home, who live in an area who might not have a card shop to go to, you know?
- 52:38[SPEAKER_00]: But I just see this like cycle in my mind and Matthew always gets on me.
- 52:42[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, Dad, he's like, you're normally just a such a positive person in life.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_00]: But when it comes to cards, you're like a glass half empty kind of guy.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_00]: and it like, it crushes me because I don't want to be, but I'm also like, bro, I've lived this.
- 52:57[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I've lived this.
- 52:58[SPEAKER_00]: And so it's not that I'm trying to be negative.
- 53:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's trying to go way to second.
- 53:02[SPEAKER_00]: I remember that.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_00]: You're just constantly cautious.
- 53:05[SPEAKER_00]: I remember that.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_00]: I know, and I feel bad for being that way, but at the same time, I do recognize these cyclical trends, and it's so I'm going, hang on a second.
- 53:15[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to go dive in and buy a case of Norman Schwartz call of desert storm just because it's hot right now, like how sustainable some of this stuff.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_00]: So that's kind of my constant dialogue in my own brain.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, I mean, I think we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're,
- 53:29[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I think in any decisions you make, like, you don't want to be a sheep, because sheep get let out this water.
- 53:36[SPEAKER_03]: So whatever decision you make, you need to have a good thesis behind it.
- 53:39[SPEAKER_03]: Like, why am I buying this card?
- 53:41[SPEAKER_03]: Am I buying this?
- 53:43[SPEAKER_03]: Because I've really thoughtfully thought through why I'm buying this card?
- 53:48[SPEAKER_03]: Or did I just see it went up 20% and I'm bow-moving out right now?
- 53:51[SPEAKER_03]: And I have to have this car because I'm going to get because
- 53:54[SPEAKER_03]: I saw a slide in your whatever influence you want to as buying these cars now because let me tell you once the influencer post the video He's already made his mood.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 54:08[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, I mean, it's that's what we try.
- 54:10[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, and I think You know, I love fanatics and top was our great partners, but at the same time I you know, I bet direct conversation with them sometimes I feel like they put their
- 54:22[SPEAKER_03]: too many other eggs in the basket of the breaking world and and it gives like the youth the kids who are going to be the next collector turns on unhealthy perspective of what the hobby really looks like.
- 54:33[SPEAKER_03]: Like, you know, with my kids that are 17 and 14, I don't want them sitting around watching a bunch of guys gamble, dropping the F bomb every 30 seconds, you know, I'm promoting like, you know, just this, it's just like an insensatable appetite to just more, more, more, more, more, more, more, more, more, and you hear, and as many people as much money you make, it burns a lot of people out and you lose them forever at the same time.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_03]: You know, we know how many people I'd like come in our shop and like I had to delete what not off my phone.
- 55:06[SPEAKER_03]: I got my first credit card built.
- 55:08[SPEAKER_03]: I spent $12,000 on there.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_03]: I thought I'd spent like a thousand.
- 55:11[SPEAKER_03]: You don't want to be like so it's just something we got a careful like because I know they're spending a ton of money bringing people in.
- 55:18[SPEAKER_03]: But you don't want to walk out the same door.
- 55:19[SPEAKER_03]: They walk into 30 days later because you burn them out because they got so much phoma watching hit after hit after hit But every time they send the wheel they get the the Brooklyn nets and they get the the the Washington Nationals and they get the you know what I mean And that's what I got to get education and that front is so important in my opinion because like I get when I
- 55:40[SPEAKER_02]: you know I was involved in the hobby I collected when I was a kid like six seven years old and I collected Frank Thomas right when I got back into it I went and like I was on I was on what not and which I didn't even know what it was at the time and I went into back yard and I just spent tons of money and
- 55:56[SPEAKER_02]: I had no idea what the hell I was doing.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_02]: Like, nobody was educating me and they weren't educating me.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_02]: And like, I hated going in there and breaking after that because I became smarter.
- 56:09[SPEAKER_02]: And so like, but if somebody had educated me from the beginning, I mean, why would they, right?
- 56:14[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, they should, but why would they?
- 56:16[SPEAKER_02]: They're getting my money, they're getting my money.
- 56:17[SPEAKER_02]: I keep coming back, but people need to be educated if they're gonna be going into the streams.
- 56:22[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you know, there needs to be beginner streams.
- 56:24[SPEAKER_02]: Like, there needs to, you know what I mean?
- 56:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's it's definitely an interesting dynamic.
- 56:30[SPEAKER_00]: Well current any any kind of final questions here We're kind of hitting the one-hour mark one of honor everybody's time.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_00]: Do you still have your obtony grid?
- 56:40[SPEAKER_00]: Which one?
- 56:40[SPEAKER_00]: Otony grid.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_00]: Bowman Crohn.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_00]: I do.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, no, I do.
- 56:44[SPEAKER_02]: I do Let's make it deal.
- 56:46[SPEAKER_03]: An addict's best next year.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 56:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah fair on the stage
- 56:52[SPEAKER_00]: right in the backyard right in the backyard is funny man like you know it's weird because you know current above and I've done the pod forever and all its connectivity and then James and we've been able to connect in the shop and I don't know that you guys have ever had the opportunity to connect but like in the same league as far as like you know really high end understanding of markets and cards and you know the assets that you guys hold and stuff and it was uh it's just funny that current drop at age like
- 57:17[SPEAKER_00]: just to go that a tiny rip and you're like, you took that cam in arrow, you know, patch it is so funny because it's like, but that's the hobby man.
- 57:24[SPEAKER_00]: It's like guys know what guys have, you know?
- 57:27[SPEAKER_00]: And that's that's the kind of thing.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_00]: And when you talk to a guy like Nick Tucker, we've had Nick Tucker on the show.
- 57:33[SPEAKER_00]: Like Nick Tucker's brilliant assistant, Nick Tucker.
- 57:35[SPEAKER_00]: He knows he's like a GPS for cards.
- 57:39[SPEAKER_00]: He knows funny Nick Tucker story.
- 57:41[SPEAKER_00]: You guys will both get a kick out of this.
- 57:42[SPEAKER_00]: We went to the mountains,
- 57:44[SPEAKER_00]: as the summer was ending before school kicks off with my family.
- 57:47[SPEAKER_00]: We're in Banner Elk and of course I'm driving that with little Matt and of course little Matt when he's driving through North Carolina, he says, hey, when he just stopped at a car shop and I'm like, bro, I've had enough, I've had enough of cars for the summer and we stopped by cars at the cages in Greensboro because we've got to know those guys.
- 58:04[SPEAKER_00]: We walk in cards at the cages and Nick Tucker is didn't get the back of the shop and he's opening what was the opening UFC cards and I was like I can't think of a more perfect way to picture Nick Tucker on a Wednesday opening UFC in the back of a card store so it was just like classic and epic and all the things but well man I appreciate your time Jamison.
- 58:27[SPEAKER_00]: again to our listeners, exquisite sports collectibles and then port city collectibles on Instagram.
- 58:34[SPEAKER_00]: If you are in Wilmington, absolutely come by the shop and say what's up and go see him.
- 58:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's a great team, great guys.
- 58:42[SPEAKER_00]: This weekend you're actually doing a big event.
- 58:44[SPEAKER_00]: You're doing a card show at the card shop, right?
- 58:48[SPEAKER_03]: That's correct.
- 58:48[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's our first foray into this.
- 58:50[SPEAKER_03]: You know, we got all this space and you know, we always look for opportunities to give back to our customers and our community that come out and support us so much.
- 58:58[SPEAKER_03]: So it's is a kind of our first trial run.
- 59:01[SPEAKER_03]: We're not we kind of hand selected kind of 15 vendors.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_03]: We're not charging them anything for a table.
- 59:07[SPEAKER_03]: We're not charging any admission fee for people to come in and we really just want it to be in my hub where we can celebrate the hobby.
- 59:15[SPEAKER_03]: People can wheel and deal and have a comfortable place to do that in and that we just again just trying to look back and places we can give back because the hobby has been so gracious to us.
- 59:25[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah we're looking forward to it and then hopefully if it goes well it'll be something we'll probably do on ongoing basis.
- 59:31[SPEAKER_00]: Awesome, that's awesome.
- 59:33[SPEAKER_00]: Well, currency any final thoughts as we close the show today?
