- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So tell me what you do when things get too hectic, when you
- 0:33feel like there is just so much coming at you and you can't
- 0:38breathe. You feel like it's all rushing
- 0:41at you. Do you partake in the rush or do
- 0:45you step outside of yourself and say I just need to pause for 5
- 0:48minutes? Even if you walk into a
- 0:50bathroom, do you? Do you actually do that for
- 0:53yourself? Because I have had multiple
- 0:56people this week talk to me about how everything is coming
- 0:59at them so fast and they can't think and that's, that can't
- 1:02breathe, they're having panic attacks, all this stuff.
- 1:05I mean, it's the, it's the middle of the middle of the
- 1:08year. It's heading into summer.
- 1:10People feeling like they're behind the political climate,
- 1:13the emotional climate, the religious climate, take your
- 1:16pick. There's always a reason.
- 1:18And it doesn't. It's not just this time in
- 1:21history. It's there's always a reason and
- 1:24we all have the opportunity to feel this way.
- 1:27Our job in the best of conditions is to recognize
- 1:31what's happening, step outside of it.
- 1:35And sometimes those conditions don't show up until we feel like
- 1:38crap. And then when it shows up, it's
- 1:40like, oh, right, I feel like crap.
- 1:43And you don't notice it until it's too late.
- 1:45So the, the essence of, of fixing it has already gone by.
- 1:52By the time you feel like crap, it's already gone by.
- 1:54It's that theory of like when you're dehydrated, by the time
- 1:57you're thirsty, it's already too late.
- 1:58So you have to drink throughout the day to know that you are
- 2:02hydrated. And if you're not peeing, then
- 2:05you know you're not hydrated. And it's, it's a very simple
- 2:09procedure. But what do we have for the, the
- 2:12mental state of that? What do we have for the
- 2:14emotional state of that? Like, how do you know and what
- 2:17do you do when it's coming at you?
- 2:19Do you recognize it? So most of us are very attuned
- 2:22to feeling overwhelmed. We're pretty good at picking up
- 2:24on it. We're pretty good at saying, oh,
- 2:25well, overwhelm, yes, I recognize overwhelm.
- 2:28And we just don't stop ourselves.
- 2:31We just keep in the overwhelm. Oh my God, I just got to eat
- 2:34this down. And we go down a rabbit hole and
- 2:39the the point is you can feel it.
- 2:42It's totally fine to feel overwhelmed.
- 2:44You just don't want to stay in it.
- 2:46You got to get yourself out of it.
- 2:48And a great example and a metaphor to remember is RIP
- 2:52tides. We, if you live near the ocean
- 2:54or you've ever gone to the ocean, you'll often see signs as
- 2:56you're walking out to the beach and say be careful of RIP tides
- 2:59and RIP currents. And the essence of that is there
- 3:04is this motion that takes place near the beach where it swirls.
- 3:08And it will when you get into a RIP tide, it will pull you out
- 3:12and it will take you further. And if you fight it, you will
- 3:15actually can drown pretty easily because of the way it pulls on
- 3:19you. So the, the, the key to it is
- 3:22the key to success with it is to just go with the flow.
- 3:26Like you just relax and you let it take you out and you're the,
- 3:30the, which is crazy when you think about it, because it's
- 3:33pulling you further away from shore.
- 3:35It's like really pulling you away from the shore.
- 3:38And when it's pulling you away from the shore, you're thinking,
- 3:41I'm never going to get back. I'm, I can't swim that far back.
- 3:43I, I, you're the panic sets in because it defies logic to say,
- 3:47let me just go out with it. And then here's the key.
- 3:51Once you're out with it, the current, the beach current will
- 3:54then pull you back down further down the beach and you will get
- 3:57pushed on to the beach by the regular waves just outside the
- 4:01current. But we have to surrender to the
- 4:04process and we often resist. And as human beings, we panic
- 4:09and we try to outswim the current and it doesn't work
- 4:11because they're very strong and they can pull you under.
- 4:14That's what they do. That's why they say caution.
- 4:17Watch out for the RIP currents and where we are, we get a lot
- 4:20of red flags on those currents because it happens and it
- 4:23happens quickly. So this is very much like what
- 4:26the emotions do. We get hooked.
- 4:29We get that feeling of overwhelm.
- 4:31It's like you see the RIP current, you're caught in the
- 4:33RIP current, the overwhelms there and it's pulling you down,
- 4:36pulling you down, pulling you down.
- 4:37And rather than stepping aside and just letting go and being
- 4:40like, I'm just going to ride this out and not have the
- 4:44emotion with it, we fight it. And when we fight it, we get
- 4:47more filled with anxiety, more filled with in whatever,
- 4:51whatever emotion we're in. And we get tugged under and
- 4:54before, you know, we're drowning and then we're in tears or we're
- 4:57off to the side just up in a puddle.
- 5:00So the point is, try to go with the flow, work towards going
- 5:05with the flow, work towards stepping outside of it.
- 5:08Go wash your hands, go wash your face.
- 5:10You, if you're a regular listener, you've heard me say
- 5:12that a million times. Step out into the world.
- 5:16That's more natural. Get out of the artificial human
- 5:20created environments and go into nature.
- 5:22It always works. All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:25you have a blessed day and I will see you all tomorrow.
- 5:28Bye.
