- 0:05SPEAKER_00: Sometimes it's what we've replaced God and family with that tells the real story.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: Today, we're in Proverbs 5, 1 through 2, because it's the fifth day of the month.

- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Marketplace Proverbs and Coffee with Ernie.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: Where a proverb a day keeps stinking thinking at bay.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Hi, I'm Ernie Lansford and I've invested almost six decades in helping everyone,
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: all sales professionals,
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: entrepreneurs, owners,
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: everyone in the marketplace to realize that it's important to move from a tolerated
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: to celebrated business.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: So, let's begin today's journey with Proverbs 5,
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: verses 1-2, using the CEV translation or interpretation.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: My son, if you listen closely to my wisdom and good sense, you will have sound judgment.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Now, the chapter of Proverbs 5 is often read as a warning about sexual adultery.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: And it is.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: But today,
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: I want to talk about another kind of adultery,
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: one that many of us in the marketplace commit to I'm talking
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: about broken commitments.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: When we put business ahead of God or our families, we've broken a vow.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: That too is the form of adultery.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: And I'll be the first to say, I've been way guilty of it, big time.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: There were seasons when I told myself, oh, I'm working hard to provide for my family.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: They deserve the lifestyle that I can provide them.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: But in truth, I was chasing something else.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: Recognition, income, shiny objects, things that I call success.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: And I was using that, my activity, as an excuse to prioritize work.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: Overpresence.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: You see, my family didn't need more stuff.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: They wanted me.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Now, this kind of non-physical adultery shows up in other ways, too.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: In the workplace, well, it's when we slack off during work hours.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: We scroll social media.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: We answer personal email.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: Or we take liberties to With time and resources.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: Now, frankly, that's a broken commitment to our employer.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: In business relationships,
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: it shows up when we could possibly share confidential information between clients,
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: especially if they're competitors to each other.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: You know, that breaks trust.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: And again, it breaks the commitment.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: Now, let's go a little deeper.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: Adultery isn't always physical.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: It's any time we step outside the boundary of a covenant,
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: whether that's in marriage, business, or our walk with the Lord.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: 2 Chronicles 16.9 says,
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: "...the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: to show himself strong." On behalf of those whose hearts are loyal to Him.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: That word loyal?
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: That's the heart of today's podcast.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: So, how do we stay loyal?
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: How do we live out our commitment in a world filled with distractions and pressure?
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: Well, let's look at it through an acrostic.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: I love acrostics.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: I really do.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: Acrostic is a tool I often use in my writing and coaching.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: And I just want to clarify for those who might wonder,
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: an acrostic spells out a word vertically,
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: with each letter starting a meaningful phrase.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: An acronym is It's when those letters form a pronounceable word made
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: from initials like KPI, which stands for Key Performance Indicator.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: So hopefully you get my point.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: Today, I'm using an acrostic to explore what true commitment looks like,
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: spelling commitment as C-O-M-M-I-T-M-E-N-T.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: So the C.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: Commit to the Lord.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: The scripture reference is Psalm 143, 10.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: The O, one day at a time.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: Philippians 1, 6.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: The first M, make time to renew.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: Psalm 51, 7 through 11.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: The second M, make a list of actions.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Luke 6, 31.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: I, integrity.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: Use Hebrews 1 and 9 and Proverbs 10, 9.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: T, Trust in the Lord, Proverbs 3, 5 and 8.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: And the final M, Morals, 2 Timothy 2, 5, 15 through 16.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: Make that 2 Timothy 2, 15 through 16.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: The E in Commitment, Ease the Pain Through Confession.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: That's what real marketplace commitment looks like from my perspective.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: It's not about being perfect.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: It's about being truthful, faithful, and
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: And fully surrendered.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: Think on that.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: Today's customer success code, commitment isn't proven by what we say.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: It's revealed by what we consistently prioritize.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: Today's action points, action point number one, name your priorities.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: What's taken the top spot in your life?
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: God, family, or something else?
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: Action point number two, audit your time.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: Where are you physically present but emotionally absent?
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: Action point number three, live the acrostic.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: Pick one letter from the word commitment and apply it today.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: Action point number four, restore trust.
